Transcript
- 0:15Speaker 1: He's going to Tampa.
- 0:33Speaker 2: It's not in the Wolds.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Texas is going back to the Final four since two
- 0:44Speaker 3: thousand and three. Oh my gosh, does it feel like
- 0:50Speaker 3: a great day in Austin, Texas. Hey, it's Andrew Zimmel
- 0:53Speaker 3: filling in for Craig Way as the UH six man
- 0:57Speaker 3: from sands on you gears you up for a Final
- 1:00Speaker 3: four showdown with South Carolina. Fifty eight to forty seven
- 1:04Speaker 3: is your final from last night's game. As the Longhorns
- 1:07Speaker 3: hold on to beat TCU. They own that overall series
- 1:13Speaker 3: a lot too a little obviously, and we were talking
- 1:16Speaker 3: about it nauseum yesterday to the point where I had
- 1:19Speaker 3: people texting me being like, Hey, is it really this
- 1:22Speaker 3: big of a deal? Do we really should we care
- 1:24Speaker 3: this much? And I said, yes, you should, because not
- 1:27Speaker 3: only is this the type of team that is going
- 1:30Speaker 3: to make a deep run. We said this all the
- 1:33Speaker 3: way back in October, that this is the type of
- 1:34Speaker 3: team that can make a deep, deep run, but this
- 1:37Speaker 3: is a special team with a special group of players.
- 1:40Speaker 3: This is a special team of a special group of
- 1:42Speaker 3: players that obviously like each other, that obviously are playing
- 1:46Speaker 3: as hard as any team is played for any college
- 1:50Speaker 3: coach in the country. And Vic Shaeffer is putting himself
- 1:54Speaker 3: he already was in that conversation as one of the
- 1:56Speaker 3: best women's coaches in college basketball, but he's now in
- 1:59Speaker 3: the conversation of one of the best coaches in college sports.
- 2:04Speaker 3: And it's exactly where he should be, and it's exactly
- 2:07Speaker 3: where we should be. Final Four this week in Tampa Bay,
- 2:12Speaker 3: and yeah, we are excited.
- 2:14Speaker 2: We'll talk about the game.
- 2:16Speaker 3: We will talk to Craig way here in about seventeen
- 2:18Speaker 3: minutes as Craig travels again to now cover more women's hoops. Obviously,
- 2:23Speaker 3: everybody's super pumped. And then Texas Baseball tonight at the
- 2:28Speaker 3: Dish against Texas State, a matchup between one of the
- 2:33Speaker 3: best teams in college baseball, arguably the best team in
- 2:37Speaker 3: the SEC and the Longhorns and a Texas State team
- 2:41Speaker 3: that gives it. They're all every time they play Texas.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I say, it's the same way that when you're playing
- 2:49Speaker 3: the defending Super Bowl champions, It's the same way when
- 2:52Speaker 3: you're playing the New York Yankees, you are going to
- 2:54Speaker 3: get the absolute best of your opponent. When the Longhorns
- 2:58Speaker 3: are playing on the field, every team looks at this
- 3:02Speaker 3: game against Texas as the biggest game on their schedule.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Every team comes in and says, we have to knock
- 3:09Speaker 3: off ut So you're always getting your opponent's very best,
- 3:14Speaker 3: and that is how you end up being one of
- 3:16Speaker 3: the best teams in the SEC is by consistently getting
- 3:19Speaker 3: the absolute best from your opponents. We also have NFL
- 3:22Speaker 3: rule changes. NFL owners kind of split, actually not kind
- 3:27Speaker 3: of split on the tush push. It's we've heard from coaches,
- 3:32Speaker 3: We've heard from players. Owners are split on it. This
- 3:36Speaker 3: seems like there's a lot to do about nothing, But
- 3:40Speaker 3: then you consider that the Philadelphia Eagles push pushed their
- 3:42Speaker 3: way to a Super Bowl win, a push pushed their
- 3:46Speaker 3: way through the NFC and bullied teams to win a championship,
- 3:51Speaker 3: and I think a lot of teams are sick of
- 3:53Speaker 3: getting bullied. So we'll hear from some of the coaches there.
- 3:57Speaker 3: And then Colbakoy The Clean Pockets put out an episode
- 4:01Speaker 3: this morning talking to the head coach of the Texas Longhorn,
- 4:05Speaker 3: Steve Sarkisian.
- 4:06Speaker 2: They talk about a lot.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Obviously one of the most winningest quarterbacks in college football history,
- 4:11Speaker 3: and the coach of the Texas Longhorns are going to
- 4:13Speaker 3: talk about the guy with the pedigree name Arch Manning.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I thought it was interesting. I thought that they gave
- 4:20Speaker 3: a lot of insight on the development of Arch, gave
- 4:23Speaker 3: a lot of insight on the development of this team.
- 4:26Speaker 3: The transfer portal obviously a point of contention across college athletics.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Sarkisian gives his take as well, But let's talk college hoops.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Let's talk Texas women. Fifty eight to forty seven. Was
- 4:36Speaker 3: the win last night, and the players who had to
- 4:39Speaker 3: step up, the players who had to perform well, they did,
- 4:43Speaker 3: and Madison Booker and Rory Harmony they combined for thirty
- 4:46Speaker 3: one points. Kyla Odin Oldacre added nine to help the
- 4:48Speaker 3: Longhorns advance to their fourth Final four in program history,
- 4:53Speaker 3: the first under Vick Schaeffer. Taylor Jones opened the scoring
- 4:57Speaker 3: for both teams in the first period with the layup
- 4:59Speaker 3: in the paint fall by guards Rory Harmon sinking back
- 5:01Speaker 3: to back jumpers. At that point, you felt really good.
- 5:05Speaker 3: You led TCU seven to one halfway through the first quarter.
- 5:09Speaker 3: To close out the period, the Longhorns showcased their defensive strength,
- 5:12Speaker 3: forcing the horn Frogs into eight turnovers. It marked the
- 5:16Speaker 3: twenty sixth time that Texas has held an opponent to
- 5:18Speaker 3: single digits in the first quarter thirteen to nine lead.
- 5:22Speaker 3: At this point, I'm texting all of my friends saying, Hey,
- 5:26Speaker 3: put the game on, Get the game on. This is
- 5:28Speaker 3: a defensive masterclass from one of the best defensive minded
- 5:31Speaker 3: coaches in college hoops. Starting the second period, Shay Holly
- 5:34Speaker 3: sink a mid range jumper extended the Texas lead to
- 5:37Speaker 3: fifteen to nine. To close out the first half, the
- 5:39Speaker 3: Longhorns limited the Frogs, as, shooting only twenty five percent
- 5:42Speaker 3: from the field. Harmon led the team of eleven points
- 5:45Speaker 3: and two steals, but Texas was only up by two
- 5:48Speaker 3: going in to halftime. A lot of people online were
- 5:51Speaker 3: saying it should have been more. Texas did not capitalize
- 5:55Speaker 3: on opportunities in that first half. It could have been
- 5:57Speaker 3: a double digit lead to go in leading by two.
- 6:00Speaker 2: In a halftime.
- 6:01Speaker 3: The second half, Taylor Jones scores a running layup to
- 6:04Speaker 3: put text up twenty five to twenty one. After forcing
- 6:07Speaker 3: TSU's third in down violation, the Longhorns were able to
- 6:12Speaker 3: expand their lead to thirty five to thirty one at
- 6:14Speaker 3: the three fifteen mark. During the final minutes, Jordan Lee
- 6:17Speaker 3: sank a three pointer, followed by Madison Booker converting and
- 6:20Speaker 3: and one.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It sounded something like.
- 6:22Speaker 4: This, Lee, it's to the left winging now the Booker
- 6:25Speaker 4: off a screen left baseline jumper god.
- 6:28Speaker 3: And Sheee's fouled cool as the other side of the pillow.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Madison Booker converted the end one to go up forty
- 6:36Speaker 3: two to thirty three going into the fourth quarter. Longhorns
- 6:39Speaker 3: were on a ten to two run to start the
- 6:41Speaker 3: final period, and this might be the play of the game.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Kayla Olddecker sank a contested midrange jumper. Moments later, she
- 6:48Speaker 3: stole the ind down pass.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Dcun him down the ball.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Haylee Van Lift lops it up top for Prince stole
- 6:54Speaker 4: it from her, taken away by Old Laker.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Here's Kyla driving in and scores.
- 6:59Speaker 3: She can verts the and one free throw to extend
- 7:02Speaker 3: a forty seven to thirty six lead for Texas. Longhorns
- 7:05Speaker 3: went on to secure their spot in the final for
- 7:08Speaker 3: the first time since the two three season, but that
- 7:12Speaker 3: Old Acre Coast to coast score was the talk of
- 7:17Speaker 3: the town, and it started in the post game. Here's
- 7:19Speaker 3: our guy Craig Way with Madison Booker talking about that play.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Madison Booker, you have to help me here. How many
- 7:27Speaker 4: times have you seen have you seen Kyla make that
- 7:31Speaker 4: move that she did with the steal and outrun somebody
- 7:33Speaker 4: like Sedona Prince to the end and lay it in.
- 7:36Speaker 6: I mean, it's not my first time. Is your first
- 7:37Speaker 6: time I seeing it? I feel like you've seen this before.
- 7:39Speaker 4: I've seen, like I said, I told Shay, I've seen
- 7:42Speaker 4: a lot of practices, but I didn't remember seeing her
- 7:44Speaker 4: make a move quite like that.
- 7:45Speaker 5: She does.
- 7:46Speaker 7: You know she does, No, she does.
- 7:47Speaker 6: You must have missed it. You must have been going
- 7:49Speaker 6: so quick and she was going. I already made the
- 7:50Speaker 6: lay up. But I am not surprised when this is
- 7:52Speaker 6: I'm not surprised with my team, especially Kylo. I mean
- 7:54Speaker 6: she's a dog.
- 7:55Speaker 3: She is a dog, fast coast to coast the layup.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Maybe it was a little awkward, but it got the
- 8:01Speaker 3: job done. She got asked about it in the post
- 8:04Speaker 3: game to describe the play.
- 8:08Speaker 8: Quite a slip of in the moment on me. It
- 8:12Speaker 8: was just an intense moment for me, and my team
- 8:14Speaker 8: came and just surrounded me. A lot of positive energy,
- 8:17Speaker 8: so I had to smile, how to break the smile.
- 8:19Speaker 1: But honestly, coach.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Gets on the spots a lot.
- 8:22Speaker 8: Pretty much everyone but the fots the most to deny it.
- 8:24Speaker 8: Since our guards always worked so hard to deny the ball,
- 8:27Speaker 8: I saw that as an opportunity and just went on
- 8:29Speaker 8: with it, got the ball and just made sure I
- 8:31Speaker 8: didn't blow the layup. And I'll.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Just don't blow the layup.
- 8:36Speaker 3: But you heard a little bit in that about how, yeah, okay,
- 8:40Speaker 3: Vick Schaeffer is.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Kind of the engine behind us.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Good defensive, grinded out defense, and that's how you win
- 8:46Speaker 3: games like this, holding your opponent to limited shooting percentages.
- 8:52Speaker 3: The horn Frogs shot twenty seven percent from the field,
- 8:57Speaker 3: twenty percent from downtown and Hayley van Lin the engine.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Seven turnovers by Van Lyft, so Vick Schaefer might have
- 9:05Speaker 3: had arguably the quote of the NCAA tournament. He got
- 9:09Speaker 3: asked post game by ESPN, and this is what it
- 9:12Speaker 3: sounded like.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I know I'm not their world, but they are my world.
- 9:17Speaker 9: They say, you know, it's not who you are, it's
- 9:19Speaker 9: what you do.
- 9:20Speaker 1: This is who I am. This is what I've done
- 9:23Speaker 1: for all my life.
- 9:25Speaker 9: My family has suffered at times because I put so
- 9:27Speaker 9: much into this. My wonderful wife, I've got two beautiful kids,
- 9:32Speaker 9: but this is what I do and who I am,
- 9:34Speaker 9: and you invest so much, You invest your heart and
- 9:38Speaker 9: soul into these kids. You want it so badly for them,
- 9:41Speaker 9: but sometimes it's hard to show them, you know, especially
- 9:45Speaker 9: if they've not been there and you're going against them.
- 9:48Speaker 9: I think Sedona is a seventh year, she's at least six,
- 9:51Speaker 9: van Lyft is five. That's two veterans, and they got
- 9:56Speaker 9: great players around them, and so I'm just out of
- 10:00Speaker 9: this group. Man that today. That is Texas fight right there.
- 10:05Speaker 9: That's what we're all about.
- 10:06Speaker 3: And the player that might have the most Texas fight
- 10:09Speaker 3: is Rory Harmon, who comes back from an ACL injury
- 10:12Speaker 3: ten months ago, gets into this game, is arguably the
- 10:16Speaker 3: most impactful defensive player, finishes with thirteen points in five assists.
- 10:21Speaker 3: And she got asked in the post game about the
- 10:25Speaker 3: path to get to this final four.
- 10:28Speaker 10: I just think about just going through, you know, my
- 10:32Speaker 10: recovery and coming back after ten months. I just look
- 10:37Speaker 10: at it and like I said, I'm so proud of
- 10:38Speaker 10: myself and I'm so.
- 10:39Speaker 7: Proud of my team. They'll get to this moment.
- 10:42Speaker 10: I'm not saying I never would have thought, but just
- 10:43Speaker 10: to come back like I did and gets a foight
- 10:46Speaker 10: at four like we did, it just means.
- 10:47Speaker 7: A lot to me.
- 10:48Speaker 3: So we will talk to the man who was courtside
- 10:51Speaker 3: for the win, Craigway, coming up next on the Craigways Show.
- 10:55Speaker 3: He will talk about last night's game and maybe give
- 10:58Speaker 3: us some insight on what we can expect from Texas
- 11:00Speaker 3: and South Carolina.
- 11:01Speaker 2: This one. It's for all the marbles.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I'll come home next to the Craig Wais Show, Sports
- 11:05Speaker 3: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 11:09Speaker 3: hundred of the Zone. Make sure you are double and
- 11:12Speaker 3: triple checking your sources.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Today's April Fool's Day. But he's not a fool.
- 11:16Speaker 3: He's Craig Way on the phone line with us right
- 11:19Speaker 3: now as he goes to the airport. Craig, do you
- 11:21Speaker 3: get a clean change of clothes before you go back
- 11:23Speaker 3: to Tampa Bay?
- 11:25Speaker 4: That I did? You know when you do these kinds
- 11:28Speaker 4: of trip them and I've had it with baseball, with
- 11:30Speaker 4: men's basketball, women's basketball.
- 11:32Speaker 5: With football.
- 11:33Speaker 4: You go home, you dump out the dirty clothes and
- 11:36Speaker 4: you put new, clean ones into your bag. You shower
- 11:39Speaker 4: and change and put all new clothes and you get
- 11:41Speaker 4: going that. The plane landed around two thirty this morning.
- 11:45Speaker 4: And for those who are wondering why would they come
- 11:47Speaker 4: home instead of just going straight to Tampa that were
- 11:50Speaker 4: Believe it or not, they are still student athletes, and
- 11:53Speaker 4: several of the players wanted wanted to go to class.
- 11:57Speaker 4: They had some assignments doing some things of that nature.
- 12:00Speaker 4: So they came back. They went to class this morning,
- 12:03Speaker 4: and then everybody's gathering at the airport here in a
- 12:07Speaker 4: few minutes to fly off the Tampa.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Well, I know they're having a going away to today,
- 12:12Speaker 3: am I correct?
- 12:13Speaker 2: On the forty acres?
- 12:15Speaker 4: Yep, yep.
- 12:16Speaker 5: That was another thing too.
- 12:17Speaker 4: They knew that by coming home they could have a sendoff,
- 12:20Speaker 4: and so there will be a sendoff, much like how
- 12:23Speaker 4: football is done before going off to the postseason, men's
- 12:26Speaker 4: basketball in the past, baseball before going to Omaha for
- 12:30Speaker 4: the College World Series. So yeah, it's it's part of
- 12:33Speaker 4: the Texas tradition as well, to do a sendoff before
- 12:35Speaker 4: a big event and final fours bat as big as.
- 12:37Speaker 3: He gets, Craig, I'll say this, I have not seen
- 12:40Speaker 3: Vic Shaeffer. As emotional as he was last night, it's
- 12:43Speaker 3: obvious how much he cares about his team. But what
- 12:46Speaker 3: did you see in the post game and everything else
- 12:48Speaker 3: with Vic Shaffer?
- 12:51Speaker 4: Those who've been around it see hit because he pours
- 12:55Speaker 4: so much of himself into it, So he's gonna he'll
- 13:00Speaker 4: be pretty emotional when we've had him on postgame, like
- 13:03Speaker 4: after wins over South Carolina and LSU this year, it
- 13:08Speaker 4: got to where the voice was cracking a little bit
- 13:10Speaker 4: because he's so proud of the work that this team
- 13:14Speaker 4: puts in. And so that was not that. I'll tell
- 13:17Speaker 4: you what was a little unusual. R't Ery Harmon getting
- 13:21Speaker 4: emotional on the TV interview. I hadn't seen that before.
- 13:24Speaker 4: And then when she came over to do our interview,
- 13:26Speaker 4: and I don't know if you've got that, but if
- 13:28Speaker 4: you wind up playing that, she's much more composed. In fact,
- 13:32Speaker 4: she sounded a little embarrassed that she allowed herself to
- 13:35Speaker 4: get that emotional. But we had a good chat, as
- 13:38Speaker 4: did Madison Booker, And you just aired some of that
- 13:41Speaker 4: and Shay Holly and and the and and the conversation
- 13:45Speaker 4: with Vick all in the post game, and and there
- 13:48Speaker 4: was some really good stuff that came out of those interviews.
- 13:50Speaker 4: We were where we were glad to be able to do.
- 13:52Speaker 4: We kind of had to it extrapolated out over some time,
- 13:56Speaker 4: and we had it kind of wait because they had
- 13:57Speaker 4: to cut down on that, but we were willing to
- 13:59Speaker 4: wait on him and and then we got it all
- 14:00Speaker 4: to work.
- 14:01Speaker 3: So what was the big takeaway from this game that
- 14:04Speaker 3: Because it's easy to say all the Longhorns did good defensively,
- 14:08Speaker 3: and you know, Madison Booker did her job scoring eighteen points.
- 14:12Speaker 3: But what was the biggest takeaway for you in this
- 14:14Speaker 3: game against TCU?
- 14:15Speaker 4: Craig, I think Kathy Harsh and my analysts pointed it
- 14:18Speaker 4: out at the end of the first quarter. And even
- 14:21Speaker 4: though Texas was only up by I think four at
- 14:23Speaker 4: the end of the quarter, she pointed out because TCU
- 14:26Speaker 4: had already committed eight turnovers in the first quarter. She said, Craig,
- 14:31Speaker 4: I don't think they've seen pressure quite like this, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 4: and a couple of teams in the big twelve, Iowa State,
- 14:38Speaker 4: Kansas State, they could kind of.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Pressure a little bit.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Baylor can press you somewhat, but not to this level.
- 14:44Speaker 4: And you could tell it was really rattling the horn Frogs.
- 14:48Speaker 4: One of the goals I think was to make Hayley Vanlidth.
- 14:52Speaker 5: Bring the ball into.
- 14:53Speaker 4: The front court and make him have a really difficult time. Well,
- 15:00Speaker 4: five second violations just trying to inbound the ball in
- 15:03Speaker 4: the first quarter, and they wound with four of those,
- 15:05Speaker 4: and then they had a ten second violation as well.
- 15:08Speaker 4: They had five just regular ball in play up the
- 15:12Speaker 4: floor type violations in the game. The turnovers that the
- 15:16Speaker 4: pressure really turned it up on them, and I think
- 15:19Speaker 4: that was the difference. You mentioned Haley van lift with
- 15:22Speaker 4: seven turnovers Tas you had a season of high with
- 15:24Speaker 4: twenty one turnovers and only made twelve shots the entire game.
- 15:31Speaker 4: I read TCU's recap of it, and in looking at
- 15:34Speaker 4: their bright side, they're like, well, they held one of
- 15:37Speaker 4: only two teams to hold Texas under sixty points, the
- 15:40Speaker 4: other being South Carolina. Well that's true because the Logbards
- 15:44Speaker 4: only shot thirty nine percent. They had some but it
- 15:46Speaker 4: takes a lot out of you playing defense, and Mick
- 15:49Speaker 4: Shafer and this team will take that, you know, every
- 15:52Speaker 4: day of the week if you can just ring it
- 15:55Speaker 4: out of another team to where they're just very difficult
- 15:58Speaker 4: in terms of trying to get some effectiveness going consecutively
- 16:03Speaker 4: with their offense. Then they'll take their chances on what
- 16:05Speaker 4: they have to find with their offense. And TCU I
- 16:10Speaker 4: give them a lot of credit.
- 16:11Speaker 2: They hung around.
- 16:12Speaker 4: They made a run right before the half, a seven
- 16:13Speaker 4: oher run that pulled it within two, and then they
- 16:16Speaker 4: actually caught Texas at twenty nine to twenty nine, and
- 16:19Speaker 4: then the Long Words had of thirteen to free run
- 16:22Speaker 4: and kind of took command from their tc had one
- 16:24Speaker 4: more eight to zero run in them late in the
- 16:26Speaker 4: game and cut it to six, but that was as
- 16:29Speaker 4: close as they could get. The Long Worts had a
- 16:30Speaker 4: response for every time TCU had a run. So it
- 16:34Speaker 4: was a really good team that Texas beat. And now
- 16:37Speaker 4: they stepped into this, you know, this inner circle of
- 16:41Speaker 4: greatness of women's college basketball, and it's going to be
- 16:44Speaker 4: quite the challenge on Friday night.
- 16:46Speaker 3: There are some heavy hitters, obviously South Carolina, the team
- 16:48Speaker 3: that Texas will play in the Final four, UCLA and
- 16:51Speaker 3: Yukon on the other side of the bracket as well.
- 16:54Speaker 3: If I told you before the game, Crag that Texas
- 16:56Speaker 3: would lose the rebounding battle, you would be concerned. Right
- 17:00Speaker 3: front court played incredible though, forcing Sidona Prints a foul out.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I thought that the front court did everything they needed
- 17:06Speaker 3: to do in this win.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think Vic and Lindsay Wisdom Hilton, the
- 17:13Speaker 4: assistant who works with the Biggs, and she joined us
- 17:15Speaker 4: on the post game as well on how they knew
- 17:19Speaker 4: they had ten fouls to spend between Taylor Jones and
- 17:23Speaker 4: Kyla Oldacre and that they could get physical and try
- 17:27Speaker 4: to force the Doona Prince into committing that. And she
- 17:30Speaker 4: committed two bang bang fouls, one on that old Acre
- 17:34Speaker 4: steal and drive to the bucket and then another one
- 17:38Speaker 4: where I think she got out of her rhythm her
- 17:41Speaker 4: game of bit and got a little frustrated, and that
- 17:43Speaker 4: contributed to it as well. So yeah, the front court
- 17:47Speaker 4: did its job, even though they weren't at their most
- 17:50Speaker 4: efficient offensively. But then again, other than Madison Booker, who
- 17:54Speaker 4: really was oh.
- 17:56Speaker 3: That's you bring up a good point. Finally, I want
- 17:59Speaker 3: to talk South Carolina coming up. But the old Acre
- 18:03Speaker 3: steel coast to coast, I think that was the defining
- 18:06Speaker 3: play of this game, Craig.
- 18:08Speaker 4: No doubt. Kathy Harson was so exciting about fell out
- 18:11Speaker 4: of her chair and said that should be the number
- 18:12Speaker 4: one highlight on Sports Center. It wasn't, but it was
- 18:15Speaker 4: the top ten. But they all say she does that
- 18:20Speaker 4: stuff all the time in practice. I've seen her make
- 18:23Speaker 4: plays in practice defending the inbound and by the way,
- 18:26Speaker 4: she had a great game, just you know, in the
- 18:29Speaker 4: inbounding of that she had a couple of steels there
- 18:32Speaker 4: and deflect passes out of bounds and all that stuff.
- 18:35Speaker 4: And there's a running joke about her that she's so
- 18:38Speaker 4: serious and stone face because that's how she looks on
- 18:41Speaker 4: the floor. But I'm here to tell you to get
- 18:43Speaker 4: to know Kyla, and I got to know her when
- 18:45Speaker 4: I was in seeing the Welcome Home dinner before the
- 18:49Speaker 4: season started. She's really funny and as a great personality,
- 18:53Speaker 4: she just compartmentalizes that on the side when she goes
- 18:56Speaker 4: to the floor and becomes a beast. And so that
- 18:59Speaker 4: was pretty pretty fun to see.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Well, once the woin the National Championship will have to
- 19:02Speaker 3: have her in studio.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Craig, Yeah, why not, absolutely, And winning the title is
- 19:10Speaker 4: not going to be easy. Obviously there's South Carolina, but
- 19:12Speaker 4: that you know, Andrew, that's the case of the devil.
- 19:15Speaker 4: You know, they played them three times. They lost to
- 19:18Speaker 4: them twice. Both of the losses were in the Palmetta State.
- 19:21Speaker 4: They lost to them in Colombia. They lost to him
- 19:24Speaker 4: in the SEC Women's Tournament championship game, which was in Greenville,
- 19:27Speaker 4: and they had big home court advantages in both of those.
- 19:29Speaker 4: The one game that Texas won, they had the big
- 19:31Speaker 4: home court advantage and beat him in Austin. But I
- 19:34Speaker 4: think it comes down to more than that in both
- 19:37Speaker 4: of the South Carolina victories. And we'll talk about this
- 19:39Speaker 4: some more so that week progresses. What they did was
- 19:44Speaker 4: to dominate the second quarter. First quarter in the SEC
- 19:48Speaker 4: Championship was a twelve to ten ball game, and then
- 19:50Speaker 4: they got dominated in the second quarter. And the same
- 19:53Speaker 4: thing happened in Colombia. Now they got off to a
- 19:55Speaker 4: little bit quicker starting the first quarter, but it was
- 19:57Speaker 4: still within reaching a ball game in the first quarter,
- 20:01Speaker 4: and then in the second quarter they went on I believe,
- 20:04Speaker 4: a fifteen oh run and just blew the doors off.
- 20:07Speaker 4: So both of those games South did that Excuse me
- 20:12Speaker 4: to Texas, But I do think the log Worns are
- 20:16Speaker 4: better prepared for it this time. They know what they're
- 20:18Speaker 4: going to have to deal with, and so big oh
- 20:21Speaker 4: haven't prepared. Then it comes down to the execution itself
- 20:25Speaker 4: on Friday evening.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Well, and something that Vic Shaffer talks about too in
- 20:28Speaker 3: his post game Craig was that he has played South
- 20:30Speaker 3: Carolina multiple times in the season before, and I think
- 20:32Speaker 3: that that's going to play a part. That might be
- 20:34Speaker 3: one of those sneaky things that not enough people talk about,
- 20:37Speaker 3: is that he's seen South Carolina in the postseason multiple
- 20:40Speaker 3: times in Mississippi State.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Yeah, starting with that and then with Destory, I mean,
- 20:46Speaker 4: and even remember his first season, Texas got to the
- 20:51Speaker 4: Elite eight and lost to South Carolina. They were in
- 20:53Speaker 4: routes winning a national title, and Texas was kind of
- 20:58Speaker 4: a Cinderella story that year coming out of the pandemic.
- 21:01Speaker 4: But that they know how good South Carolina is from
- 21:04Speaker 4: the backcourt with Malaysia Ful Wiley and Tina Pow Pow
- 21:09Speaker 4: to Chloe Kitts who had a monster game against them
- 21:12Speaker 4: in the SEC Tournament championship. Uh, you know all of that,
- 21:16Speaker 4: all of those outstanding players kind of come to the
- 21:20Speaker 4: scene and they're and they're familiar with it. They've been
- 21:22Speaker 4: down this road. They're the defending national champions, so they
- 21:25Speaker 4: know what it takes, so it's it's going to be
- 21:26Speaker 4: a supreme challenge. And in the other semi final, Ucla
- 21:30Speaker 4: has one of the best players in the country and
- 21:31Speaker 4: Lauren Betts. They're outstanding post We know what Yukon has
- 21:35Speaker 4: and Page Becker said, I will tell you this, I
- 21:37Speaker 4: think Yukon of the four teams in the final four
- 21:41Speaker 4: right now, Yukon is playing the most dominating brand of
- 21:46Speaker 4: basketball when you look at what they've done to their
- 21:49Speaker 4: opponents in the NCAA Tournament. I mean, USC kind of
- 21:53Speaker 4: hung around a little bit, but it was it was
- 21:55Speaker 4: pretty much Yukon's game. They they they controlled it from
- 21:59Speaker 4: the start. That is a big part of it. She's
- 22:01Speaker 4: not the only part of it, however, And this is
- 22:03Speaker 4: Yukon's twenty fourth Final four, so they know what they're
- 22:07Speaker 4: doing as well. So that'll be an interesting game when
- 22:10Speaker 4: they play Ucla in the second One.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Fun fact that Yukon they're the only two seed left
- 22:16Speaker 3: between the men's and the women's bracket.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Craig, Yeah, yeah, all ones. And of course it's funny
- 22:22Speaker 4: that on the men's side all four ones getting the
- 22:24Speaker 4: San Antonio. The only other time it happen was two
- 22:26Speaker 4: thousand and eight in San Antonio. So when Kansas beat
- 22:31Speaker 4: Memphis in the final so and Texas was in the
- 22:33Speaker 4: Elite eight that year and they lost to Derrick Rose
- 22:35Speaker 4: in Memphis in that Elite eight game at NRG Stadium
- 22:39Speaker 4: in Houston. So you're right, it's been a year of chalk,
- 22:44Speaker 4: a year for the higher seeds to kind of really dominate.
- 22:49Speaker 4: And Yukon, it was argued by many, should have been
- 22:52Speaker 4: a one seed. And this was even before Juju Watkins
- 22:56Speaker 4: got hurt. In fact, on my women's bracket, I picked
- 22:59Speaker 4: you On to beat usc in the Elite eight. Now
- 23:04Speaker 4: I missed one. I had mc State getting past LSU
- 23:08Speaker 4: and beating UCLA in the Elite eight. That did not happen.
- 23:12Speaker 4: LSU beat him in the sweet sixteen. So three of
- 23:15Speaker 4: my final four picks are there for the women. Three
- 23:18Speaker 4: of my final four picks are there for the men.
- 23:21Speaker 4: But it's it's it's a year of chalk, a year
- 23:25Speaker 4: for the higher seeds to be in control of it.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Craig Way, thanks so much, bandon moving to see anything.
- 23:32Speaker 4: No, oh, we do want to let folks know. The
- 23:35Speaker 4: game Friday Night can be heard on ninety eight point
- 23:39Speaker 4: one FM on KVAT, home the home of Austin's all
- 23:43Speaker 4: time country favorites. We're putting the women's games on ninety
- 23:46Speaker 4: eight point one FM this weekend. Long Run Baseball shifts
- 23:50Speaker 4: over to one oh three point one because of Royndrock
- 23:52Speaker 4: Express Baseball on the Zone on Friday, busy times them.
- 23:56Speaker 4: So the women Friday night and obviously if they win
- 23:59Speaker 4: and reach the championship on Sunday afternoon, both of those
- 24:03Speaker 4: games will be on ninety eight point one one FM
- 24:06Speaker 4: on KVAT. So just want to let folks know that
- 24:08Speaker 4: for a programming note.
- 24:09Speaker 3: And we'll continue to remind him. Craig over here, we'll
- 24:11Speaker 3: talk to you tomorrow from Tampa.
- 24:14Speaker 4: You bet we'll see him.
- 24:15Speaker 3: See you, Craig, Voice of the Longhorns, Craig Way. As
- 24:18Speaker 3: the show rolls on, it's April Fool's Day, which means
- 24:21Speaker 3: there's gonna be a lot of inconceivable things happening. We'll
- 24:24Speaker 3: talk about them all next on Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 24:26Speaker 3: hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Is it inconceivable for you to be tricked on an
- 24:35Speaker 3: April Fool's Day?
- 24:36Speaker 2: No, it is not.
- 24:37Speaker 3: And we'll start our inconceivable with this. I am somebody
- 24:41Speaker 3: who I consider myself pretty smart, and I'm considered myself
- 24:44Speaker 3: somebody who you know, we'll own. I'll do my own research.
- 24:47Speaker 3: I'll double and triple check to make sure that stories
- 24:49Speaker 3: are right. You know, maybe I don't pronounce every name correctly,
- 24:52Speaker 3: but I do an okay job looking up sources.
- 24:55Speaker 2: So when I saw the Tiger.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Woods tweeted today quote, I can't I believe I'm saying this,
- 25:01Speaker 3: But after a few months after rupturing my left achilles,
- 25:05Speaker 3: the sleeping in the hyperbaric chamber plus the explosive lifts
- 25:08Speaker 3: my doctor and trainers have me on had me ready
- 25:11Speaker 3: to play in the Masters next week. Can't wait to
- 25:13Speaker 3: see see all in the court. Of course, I thought
- 25:18Speaker 3: that was real. I bought it. It was from the
- 25:20Speaker 3: verified Tiger Woods account on Twitter, and I bought it.
- 25:25Speaker 3: I bought that this was from the you know, this
- 25:28Speaker 3: was real?
- 25:29Speaker 2: It was not. It was not real.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Tiger Woods has to follow up and say that no, haha,
- 25:37Speaker 3: April Fool's Day, everybody. I bought it, and I had
- 25:40Speaker 3: a witty take, which was, you're gonna blow out your
- 25:43Speaker 3: other tiger Tiger like this is a bad idea. You
- 25:46Speaker 3: can't be trying to come back Russian Achilles injury. Luckily
- 25:50Speaker 3: I wasn't the only one that got duped. Jason Whitlock
- 25:53Speaker 3: was duped as well as some other sports media personalities.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Seventy seven point three million views on said tweet from
- 26:01Speaker 3: Tiger Woods, so it got some of us. I hopefully
- 26:04Speaker 3: it did not catch you as well. Aprifols also means
- 26:09Speaker 3: that the brands are getting into it right, and some
- 26:13Speaker 3: of them include Doctor Pepper, which has said that they
- 26:16Speaker 3: are having a Doctor Pepper flavored TikTok. Yahoo announced that
- 26:21Speaker 3: they are going to have a grass covered keyboard. Chocolate
- 26:26Speaker 3: Maker Nestle Nestell, Why am I see? I can't read
- 26:30Speaker 3: today either. Ntel announced a new silent crunch bar with
- 26:34Speaker 3: a cooked rice which would make it for seventy five
- 26:37Speaker 3: less noise instead of the standard crispy rice and chocolate treat.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Uh yeah, so not ideal.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Hot sauce company Tabasco announced ah infused sunscreen, which okay
- 26:54Speaker 3: for your your sunburns. Quote, We've got your taste bud covers,
- 26:58Speaker 3: now your skin too protect just in time for spring break,
- 27:02Speaker 3: Stay hot not burnt.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Uh yeah.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Some other ones include Huskfarna, who announced that they have
- 27:09Speaker 3: a new lawn mower which is in the shape of
- 27:11Speaker 3: a ufo. The company announced the global leader in outdoor
- 27:17Speaker 3: power products and robotics who's joining with an iconic April
- 27:19Speaker 3: Fools Fund, a series of social media pros the Lawn
- 27:23Speaker 3: Circle sightings. Other ones include a viral golf club, which
- 27:30Speaker 3: would be a putter that can also double, as you
- 27:34Speaker 3: guessed it, a driver. Yeah, not ideal. And then there's
- 27:38Speaker 3: a couple of wine companies that announced that they are
- 27:41Speaker 3: having new protein packed champagnes, which cracked me up. I
- 27:46Speaker 3: thought that was a that was pretty good. This one's
- 27:48Speaker 3: a crime against humanity as well. It's an ice cream
- 27:55Speaker 3: flavored buttered chicken chicken taraioki ice cream that's flavored like that.
- 28:03Speaker 3: All very very bad ideas, not good at all on
- 28:09Speaker 3: an April Fool's Day. Yeah, and that's really the takeaway
- 28:12Speaker 3: here is that you can't. I always forget about it.
- 28:15Speaker 3: I flip my calendar this morning. I have my calendar
- 28:17Speaker 3: that I got on our Cotton Bowl trip last year
- 28:21Speaker 3: with the Fellas.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I changed the calendar.
- 28:25Speaker 3: It's April first, and I did not even register with
- 28:29Speaker 3: me that there would be some of these like just
- 28:33Speaker 3: crazy stories, just absolutely foolish stories out and about so again,
- 28:39Speaker 3: keep your eyes peeled. You don't want to be like
- 28:42Speaker 3: me and get caught on that all right. Other inconceivable news.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I always like a story about a reunion. I like
- 28:50Speaker 3: it when you hear about dogs. And this dog reunion.
- 28:54Speaker 3: This North Carolina family reunited with their missing dog after
- 28:59Speaker 3: three years. So in North Carolina, family spy their missing
- 29:02Speaker 3: dog online three years after the canine disappeared from their home.
- 29:07Speaker 3: The Rocky Mount Police departments on social media that Jonathan
- 29:11Speaker 3: and his wife spy their long missing dog a Rocky
- 29:15Speaker 3: Mount Petfinder page. The dog had gone missing three years
- 29:19Speaker 3: earlier from their home. It's about thirty five miles away
- 29:22Speaker 3: from where this petfinder website was. My team and I
- 29:26Speaker 3: are overwhelmed with joy. Derek Barnhill, the city's animals control supervisor, said,
- 29:32Speaker 3: we reunite animals with their owners daily. It's rare to
- 29:34Speaker 3: see a reunion after such a long period of time.
- 29:38Speaker 3: The dog has husky heritage, which contributed to the original escape.
- 29:43Speaker 3: As you know that huskies are very intelligent, very high energy,
- 29:46Speaker 3: but they also like to have prison breaks.
- 29:48Speaker 2: They are big on the escape artists.
- 29:50Speaker 3: The police department said they never stop searching for their
- 29:53Speaker 3: beloved talk. So if you're somebody missing your pet, maybe
- 29:57Speaker 3: go on some of those pet finder pages and maybe
- 29:59Speaker 3: you'll be able to to.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Bring it home. Look for your dog and all all
- 30:04Speaker 2: the right places, all right.
- 30:05Speaker 3: When we come back, is it inconceivable that the Push
- 30:08Speaker 3: Push gets removed? And is Aaron Rodgers signing with the Steelers.
- 30:13Speaker 3: We'll figure it out next all Coming up next on
- 30:15Speaker 3: The Cragway Show is our one rolls on on Sports
- 30:17Speaker 3: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 30:22Speaker 3: hundred The Zone Andrews will hanging out with you this
- 30:24Speaker 3: Tuesday afternoon. A lot to get into in our number
- 30:28Speaker 3: two of The Cragway Show, including one Memphis Grizzly player said,
- 30:33Speaker 3: maybe the funniest thing I've heard this season, and the
- 30:37Speaker 3: Grizzlies are going through a lot right now, so that's
- 30:40Speaker 3: a hard bar to clear, he said, an absolute incredible line.
- 30:45Speaker 3: We'll get to that in our number two. And then
- 30:46Speaker 3: also the guards last night for Texas were outstanding. The
- 30:51Speaker 3: defense that they played on Haley van Lyft, which was
- 30:54Speaker 3: the engine that powered TCU throughout the season, forcing her
- 30:58Speaker 3: three to fifteen shooting with seven turnovers. Last night, Shay
- 31:02Speaker 3: Holly and Roy Harmon put on a defensive clinic. We
- 31:05Speaker 3: will hear from them, and then Colt McCoy and Steve
- 31:07Speaker 3: Sarkisian spoke on Texas's quarterback Numero Uno number one on
- 31:11Speaker 3: the depth chart, arch manning this season and the clean
- 31:16Speaker 3: the Clean Poddet podcast. The Clean Pocket podcast with Cole
- 31:20Speaker 3: McCoy earlier today dropped. We'll talk a little Texas football
- 31:24Speaker 3: in hour at number two as well. But the NFL
- 31:27Speaker 3: owners are meeting, the NFL head coaches are meeting all
- 31:30Speaker 3: in Palm Beach, and the NFL owners. They approved significant
- 31:34Speaker 3: changes to the league's kickoff structure, also authorizing the expansion
- 31:39Speaker 3: in replay assistant programs during the final session of the
- 31:42Speaker 3: league meetings this morning. The touchback on kickoffs will be
- 31:45Speaker 3: marked at the thirty five yard line for the twenty
- 31:48Speaker 3: five season. The move of the league and officials and
- 31:51Speaker 3: special teams coaches will promote a significant increase in return rate.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Now they're hoping that that will allow more kick returns
- 31:58Speaker 3: because fans like to see kick returns. The new language
- 32:01Speaker 3: reflects the original intent of the massive revamp the NFL
- 32:05Speaker 3: instituted this past season, with the final negotiations resulting. The
- 32:09Speaker 3: touchback spotted at the thirty so they're going to give
- 32:11Speaker 3: them five more yards. That left many coaches comfortable kicking touchbacks.
- 32:15Speaker 3: In twenty twenty four, the league produced a return rate
- 32:18Speaker 3: of thirty two percent. The hope is that this new
- 32:22Speaker 3: revamp will bring a return rate up to around seventy
- 32:25Speaker 3: to seventy five percent. The concussion rate on kickoffs last
- 32:29Speaker 3: season dropped forty three percent from twenty to twenty three now.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Denver special teams coach Darren Risey says, the space and
- 32:38Speaker 3: speed of the play were much more down than what
- 32:42Speaker 3: we're used to. So the players have tremendous success and
- 32:45Speaker 3: that's what we felt it was time to move them
- 32:48Speaker 3: to the thirty five. Now owners have a lot to kind.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Of discuss there.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Again, you want to care about players safety through the NFL.
- 32:57Speaker 3: After the track record that they've had, you're looking for
- 33:00Speaker 3: any way to make the game safer. The other proposed
- 33:03Speaker 3: changes of Detroit Lions proposed to make the playoff seeding
- 33:07Speaker 3: based on regular season records rather than divisional championships. That
- 33:11Speaker 3: was table for further discussion. Detroit proposed to eliminate the
- 33:14Speaker 3: automatic first down as a penalty imposed for defensive holding
- 33:18Speaker 3: in illegal contact that did not pass. The Tush push
- 33:23Speaker 3: is the interesting one though. That's the one that most
- 33:25Speaker 3: people have cared the most about. That's the one that
- 33:27Speaker 3: most people have been paying attention to because the Philadelphia
- 33:30Speaker 3: Eagles essentially tush pushed their way into a Super Bowl
- 33:33Speaker 3: win last year. Now, was it all that, No, there
- 33:36Speaker 3: was other big plays.
- 33:37Speaker 11: A J.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Brown, Devantae Smith, Jalen Hurts all played very well in
- 33:40Speaker 3: the Super Bowl, but there was a times last season
- 33:43Speaker 3: that the game was won or lost by the trenches.
- 33:47Speaker 3: And not just the trenches, but this signature play by Philadelphia. Now,
- 33:52Speaker 3: Nick Sirianni, the head coach of the Eagles, has said
- 33:54Speaker 3: that it's safe. Doug mccam Sean McDermott, the head coach
- 33:59Speaker 3: of the Buffalo Bills, came out yesterday against it. The
- 34:02Speaker 3: NFC coaches spoke today. Matt Lafleur kind of argued for
- 34:07Speaker 3: more safety protocols when it comes to the play. And
- 34:10Speaker 3: the owners, well, they were split two sixteen sixteen was
- 34:14Speaker 3: the final vote and they're going to table it for
- 34:18Speaker 3: further discussion. Now, the NFL doesn't have any information on
- 34:23Speaker 3: if the play causes more injuries. There hasn't been a
- 34:26Speaker 3: large study done by the league just yet, but their
- 34:30Speaker 3: quote expert witness, a doctor Allan Stills. He told owners
- 34:34Speaker 3: this week that the mechanics of the play could lead
- 34:37Speaker 3: to injuries. So that makes people a little concerned. Obviously,
- 34:41Speaker 3: the Green Bay Packers were the ones that put the
- 34:43Speaker 3: proposal on the table. Sixteen NFL teams liked it. Sixteen
- 34:48Speaker 3: NFL teams did not, So they've tabled it for further discussion.
- 34:52Speaker 3: So we get one more season of the argument, back
- 34:55Speaker 3: and forth and forth and back on if this play
- 34:58Speaker 3: will continue. Continue to make the case, the plead for
- 35:02Speaker 3: it's a fine play. The safety isn't the concern to me,
- 35:05Speaker 3: it's the optics of it. There's a reason that the
- 35:08Speaker 3: NFL is the number one product on television. There's a
- 35:11Speaker 3: reason that across the globe it's the number one thing
- 35:14Speaker 3: that everybody wants to watch come February. People like to
- 35:17Speaker 3: see explosive plays. The NFL is a built for television event.
- 35:21Speaker 3: The reason that rugby isn't the most popular sport in
- 35:24Speaker 3: America is because it's not a lot to look at. Yeah,
- 35:27Speaker 3: there's a couple of big plays here and there, but
- 35:29Speaker 3: a lot of the times it's guys grunting and pushing
- 35:31Speaker 3: each other, locking arms, and that's kind of what the
- 35:34Speaker 3: tush pilt looks like for a lot of people. It's okay,
- 35:37Speaker 3: everybody gets to the line and we're making a big
- 35:40Speaker 3: burst of six feet a yard two yards on every
- 35:44Speaker 3: one of these plays. It helped the Philadelphia Eagles because
- 35:48Speaker 3: they have a quarterback athletic enough and built large enough.
- 35:51Speaker 3: And Jalen Hurts, who I think when he was at
- 35:54Speaker 3: Alabama was squading like six hundred pounds was a story
- 35:57Speaker 3: I read in Sports Illustrated. He's a giant lower body.
- 36:00Speaker 3: He has a push to push. To be completely honest
- 36:03Speaker 3: with you, this is a guy who knows how to
- 36:06Speaker 3: hit the weight room. So you have an athletic quarterback
- 36:10Speaker 3: like that, and then defensive linemen are having to fight
- 36:14Speaker 3: in the trenches to try to make the stop. Linebackers
- 36:17Speaker 3: can't jump over the line and spear the guy. But
- 36:20Speaker 3: the other quarterbacks who are trying to make this run
- 36:23Speaker 3: to try to execute these plays, they aren't built physically
- 36:27Speaker 3: strong enough like Jalen Hurts this with the lower body
- 36:29Speaker 3: to be able to push the pile forward right. I
- 36:32Speaker 3: saw Jordan Love try to do it this year, and
- 36:34Speaker 3: that's why I think it's very funny that the Packers
- 36:37Speaker 3: are the team that are making these big dare I
- 36:40Speaker 3: say push to try to eliminate the play because their
- 36:43Speaker 3: quarterback isn't built strong enough for that type of play.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Josh Allen and the Bills run a similar style to
- 36:50Speaker 3: this play.
- 36:50Speaker 2: If you hear their head coach Sean McDermott talk.
- 36:52Speaker 3: About it, It's a similar play, but the angles are
- 36:57Speaker 3: not necessarily as sharp, meaning that Josh Allen stands more
- 37:01Speaker 3: upright when he's trying to run the play. It looks
- 37:03Speaker 3: more like a quarterback sneak than it does a toush push.
- 37:07Speaker 3: So the play got split down the middle, and it
- 37:10Speaker 3: makes sense that Roger Goodell does not want to step
- 37:13Speaker 3: in it and be the guy to make this type
- 37:17Speaker 3: of decision.
- 37:19Speaker 2: It's not nearly worth your.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Time if you're the commissioner of the sport to make
- 37:23Speaker 3: half of the league upset about banning this play. The
- 37:27Speaker 3: other reason, and look this is true too. If you
- 37:30Speaker 3: don't like it, stop it. Find a way to stop
- 37:33Speaker 3: the play, and you don't have to worry about outlawing it.
- 37:36Speaker 3: If you can stop the Eagles from running it, do it.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Get bigger guys on the offense or defensive line.
- 37:41Speaker 2: All right.
- 37:42Speaker 3: When we come back, our two of The Craigway Show
- 37:44Speaker 3: rolls on talking college football, obviously with the Texas Longhorns.
- 37:48Speaker 3: Starkesian spoke with Ta Coole McCoy, and we'll hear some
- 37:51Speaker 3: post game from last night with Craig Madison, Booker, Roy
- 37:55Speaker 3: Harmon and Vick Schaeffer all coming up next to The
- 37:57Speaker 3: Craigway Show on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zone station,
- 38:01Speaker 3: and you're gonna have to.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Do that because we have a.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Ton of athletics, ton of sports happening all over the place.
- 38:08Speaker 3: The Zone is your home for the Round Rock Express obviously,
- 38:11Speaker 3: and on Saturday it was it's going to be.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Ninety three to one.
- 38:19Speaker 3: The Cavid FM will be your home for Texas women
- 38:22Speaker 3: as they go to the Final four after a win
- 38:24Speaker 3: against Tennessee or a correction against TCU yesterday fifty eight
- 38:29Speaker 3: to forty seven was your final. We will hear from
- 38:33Speaker 3: Shay Holly and Roy Harmon and how they were able
- 38:36Speaker 3: to shut down Haley Van Lift and propel this Texas
- 38:40Speaker 3: team to the Final Four for the first time since
- 38:42Speaker 3: two thousand and three and one O three one will
- 38:46Speaker 3: be your home for Texas Baseball. Now, Texas Baseball has
- 38:49Speaker 3: a matchup tonight against Texas State and they're going to
- 38:52Speaker 3: be without one of their best players, which would be
- 38:55Speaker 3: junior right fielder Max Blue, who is week to week
- 38:58Speaker 3: after suffering a thumb injury after making a fall against
- 39:02Speaker 3: Missouri on Friday, So we missed both games of the
- 39:05Speaker 3: double header on Saturday. Kendall Rodgers from D one Baseball
- 39:10Speaker 3: announced yesterday injury update. All American outfielder Back Blue will
- 39:14Speaker 3: miss the rest of the regular season with a fractured thumb.
- 39:17Speaker 3: He was told Blue will be back for the postseason.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Now again, Texas is one of the best teams in
- 39:22Speaker 3: the SEC, so you feel pretty confident saying, hey, this
- 39:26Speaker 3: is a playoff team, this is a postseason team if
- 39:29Speaker 3: things continue to go the way they continue to go.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Here's the thing.
- 39:33Speaker 3: He's batting almost four hundred three point fifty eight this
- 39:35Speaker 3: season with six home runs and twenty two RBIs. He
- 39:38Speaker 3: is a power hitter, a guy that you want to
- 39:42Speaker 3: have in your lineup. Longhorns will be without him tonight
- 39:46Speaker 3: as they take on Texas State first Pitch tonight at
- 39:50Speaker 3: six thirty and Roger Wallace and Keith Morland will be
- 39:55Speaker 3: on the call. Okay, other news, and this is the
- 40:00Speaker 3: story that I am most interested in, obviously not Texas related.
- 40:05Speaker 3: A non Texas story that I'm most interested in is
- 40:08Speaker 3: the collapse of the Memphis Grizzlies. Three seasons ago. Memphis
- 40:14Speaker 3: was the darling child in the NBA. Three seasons ago,
- 40:18Speaker 3: we were talking about the Memphis Grizzlies as the next
- 40:20Speaker 3: team up. Oh, we love Oklahoma City in Houston's building,
- 40:23Speaker 3: but Memphis with John Morant, the second coming of Alan Iverson,
- 40:28Speaker 3: the guy that has the balance ability of a Derrick Rose.
- 40:32Speaker 3: He is the next type of point guard who needs
- 40:35Speaker 3: three point shooting when you have a guy that can
- 40:37Speaker 3: jump over anybody anywhere, anytime. Well, John Moran has had
- 40:42Speaker 3: his troubles with law enforcement obviously off the court, problems
- 40:47Speaker 3: with you know, some of the things that are happening
- 40:50Speaker 3: around him. Okay, and then last season was essentially a
- 40:53Speaker 3: dud thanks to injuries. So this was the year for
- 40:56Speaker 3: the Memphis Grizzlies and Memphis, to their credit, number five
- 41:00Speaker 3: seed right now in the Western Conference, forty four and
- 41:03Speaker 3: thirty one, firmly in the playoff picture. But then this
- 41:07Speaker 3: past week they fire their head coach, Taylor Jenkins, who
- 41:10Speaker 3: is one of the or who was the winning as
- 41:13Speaker 3: head coach. According to reports, things were not going well
- 41:17Speaker 3: that Taylor Jenkins looked at Jaan Moran and looked at
- 41:21Speaker 3: this team and was wanting a little bit more. We'll say, Okay,
- 41:24Speaker 3: this was a guy who was expecting maybe a little
- 41:26Speaker 3: bit more from his star, maybe a little bit more
- 41:29Speaker 3: from his other, you know, outside role players. Incomes Triple
- 41:35Speaker 3: J Jalen Jackson junior, who has been playing like defensive
- 41:37Speaker 3: player of the Year, who has taken a step up
- 41:40Speaker 3: and has looked like the second star in Memphis in
- 41:44Speaker 3: the times that Jamarey has not been playing. He has
- 41:47Speaker 3: been a two way stud the likes of Anthony Davis
- 41:51Speaker 3: and Bamanabayo.
- 41:52Speaker 2: He has been great. But last night the.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Memphis Grizzlies suffered a embarrassing loss to the Boston Celtics
- 42:00Speaker 3: one seventeen one oh three loss, and the Grizzlies now
- 42:03Speaker 3: are three and seven in their last ten and Triple
- 42:06Speaker 3: J had this to say, I.
- 42:09Speaker 8: Mean, we've had wins lost and no reason to feel
- 42:13Speaker 8: like crazy, like it could.
- 42:15Speaker 5: It's always it always could be worse.
- 42:16Speaker 7: You could be homeless.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Now, that to me is the quote of the night
- 42:21Speaker 3: out of the Association. Now you get press posting press
- 42:24Speaker 3: conferences all the time, and I maybe I'm harping too
- 42:27Speaker 3: much on Triple J here, maybe I'm harping too much
- 42:29Speaker 3: on Jalen Jackson Junior. But you know things are bad
- 42:33Speaker 3: when your buddy is saying it could always be worse.
- 42:37Speaker 3: We could, we could be homeless. That is crazy to
- 42:41Speaker 3: me to say. And Memphis has fallen apart and fallen
- 42:44Speaker 3: from grace in a way that I have not seen
- 42:47Speaker 3: the team fall from grace in professional sports in a
- 42:51Speaker 3: very very long time. Like just again, think about this.
- 42:55Speaker 3: This is a team that went to the Western Conference finals.
- 42:57Speaker 3: This is a team that we felt very high that
- 43:00Speaker 3: if there was going to be another era, we love
- 43:03Speaker 3: the grid and grind era in Memphis with Zebo and
- 43:07Speaker 3: Marc Gasol and Tony Allen. There's just the hard nosed defense.
- 43:10Speaker 3: If there was going to be another era, it was
- 43:13Speaker 3: going to be this young up and coming right John Moran,
- 43:16Speaker 3: Desmond Baines, Dylan Brooks. When he was there, it was
- 43:19Speaker 3: a young team Zach EAT's there and they just haven't
- 43:23Speaker 3: been able to find their footing.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Jah Moran has been.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Hurt, and the Grizzlies, who are firmly in the playoff hunt,
- 43:31Speaker 3: feel like a team that are on the outside looking
- 43:33Speaker 3: in at this point in the season when we're in
- 43:36Speaker 3: single digits games from the end of the season going
- 43:38Speaker 3: into the postseason, and you're asking their media and you're
- 43:41Speaker 3: asking the reporters, you're talking to the guys who are
- 43:43Speaker 3: there day to day, what are the expectations, and the
- 43:46Speaker 3: expectations are come maybe we'll get out of the first
- 43:50Speaker 3: round as the five seed. You gotta feel a little
- 43:53Speaker 3: bit more positive about your team than that, right, No,
- 43:56Speaker 3: not the case.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Not the case. And Triple J.
- 44:00Speaker 3: Like I said, quote of the night, you know you're
- 44:03Speaker 3: in a bad spot. I've been there before. I've said
- 44:06Speaker 3: things could be a lot worse. It's like, yeah, I
- 44:09Speaker 3: guess they could. We could be things could be a
- 44:12Speaker 3: lot worse, all right. Last night, the Texas Longhorns punched
- 44:16Speaker 3: their ticket to the Final Four in Tampa Bay, and
- 44:20Speaker 3: the Texas team defensively was outstanding, keeping the TCU horn
- 44:27Speaker 3: Frogs to twenty seven percent from the field twelve made shots,
- 44:32Speaker 3: twenty percent from Downtown were able to force Sodota Prints
- 44:36Speaker 3: into foul trouble and force Haley van Lyft into seven
- 44:40Speaker 3: turnovers and three of fifteen shooting last night. Shay Holly,
- 44:46Speaker 3: who I did a very good job on Hailey van
- 44:49Speaker 3: Lyft in switches, was asked what was the defensive strategy
- 44:52Speaker 3: to limit TCU's offensive juggernaut.
- 44:55Speaker 12: When me and Rory got into some switches. I think
- 44:57Speaker 12: we did a really good job of switching out hard
- 45:00Speaker 12: and like she said, just trying to get the ball
- 45:02Speaker 12: out of her hands.
- 45:03Speaker 7: She's super talented guard and just.
- 45:05Speaker 12: Being like really consistent and just yeah, like she said,
- 45:10Speaker 12: like not vibing on her things.
- 45:12Speaker 7: She's just really talented.
- 45:13Speaker 12: But I think we pressured her a lot, made other
- 45:15Speaker 12: people maybe try to run the offense a little bit,
- 45:17Speaker 12: which was one of our goals.
- 45:18Speaker 2: For sure, which is big.
- 45:20Speaker 3: If you can force the ball out of the primary
- 45:22Speaker 3: ball handler's hand, that will help you. You're a situation
- 45:26Speaker 3: where we're gonna let Madison Connor beat us, We're gonna
- 45:29Speaker 3: let some of these other shooters beat us. Now Connor,
- 45:32Speaker 3: to her credit four of eleven from the field, was
- 45:35Speaker 3: one of four players to hit a three pointer last night,
- 45:38Speaker 3: one of six from downtown. But you're trying to force
- 45:42Speaker 3: other people to beat you, now, Roy Harmon got asked
- 45:44Speaker 3: the same question, what was the defensive strategy to limit
- 45:48Speaker 3: Hayley van Lyff.
- 45:49Speaker 13: I would say, you know, team defense always is the
- 45:52Speaker 13: number one thing of trying to limit her touches as much.
- 45:55Speaker 13: And I mean she's a three level scorer and a
- 45:58Speaker 13: great basketball player and she played really well for them,
- 46:02Speaker 13: But yeah, just kind of stand in front. I think
- 46:04Speaker 13: with a good basketall player and ballhanderer like she is,
- 46:08Speaker 13: like me personally, I can't like gamble on you know,
- 46:10Speaker 13: on dribbles and heasy's like I have to just say disciplined,
- 46:13Speaker 13: stand front, cut her off and stuff like that, and
- 46:16Speaker 13: just get her to like o the ball because a
- 46:19Speaker 13: lot of their offense runs through her and she makes
- 46:21Speaker 13: great plays. So just kind of getting the ball out
- 46:23Speaker 13: of her handsome definitely is one of the keys.
- 46:26Speaker 3: And Rory Harmon a defensive masterclass last night on TCU
- 46:32Speaker 3: was able to force, like I said, twenty one turnovers
- 46:36Speaker 3: by TCU and for Harmon two steals along with Masson
- 46:41Speaker 3: Booker's two steals. Booker and Harmon combined for thirty one points,
- 46:45Speaker 3: eight rebounds, and seven assist. Texas is thirty and three
- 46:50Speaker 3: when they force more than fifteen turnovers, and the Texas
- 46:54Speaker 3: Longhorns have tied the record for most wins in the
- 46:57Speaker 3: NCAA era thirty five and four. In nineteen eighty one
- 47:02Speaker 3: eighty two season, Texas again dominated in the paint twenty
- 47:06Speaker 3: four to eight against TCU, and we said that was
- 47:09Speaker 3: going to be the deciding factors who is going to
- 47:11Speaker 3: be able to clean up on the glass. Tc did
- 47:14Speaker 3: out rebound Texas in the win. However, the Longhorns forcing
- 47:19Speaker 3: Sedona prints into foul trouble is again a pivotal moment
- 47:23Speaker 3: in this game. All right now, Roy Harmon got asked,
- 47:26Speaker 3: what does it mean for this team, for Texas to
- 47:29Speaker 3: make it back to the Final four for the first
- 47:30Speaker 3: time since two thousand and three.
- 47:32Speaker 13: Yeah, coach Jodi, she is the standard like curbing around us,
- 47:37Speaker 13: I get the vibe she has that aura to her,
- 47:41Speaker 13: So I mean she laid the foundation for us. And yeah,
- 47:47Speaker 13: I guess when you look back and see how long
- 47:50Speaker 13: it's it takes, its has taken. And to see that
- 47:53Speaker 13: we've been to all the tournaments. Walkoch schafersmen here the
- 47:58Speaker 13: lead AIDS one to SE championship, a Big twelve championship.
- 48:02Speaker 13: There's a lot of things that are changing around here,
- 48:04Speaker 13: and I think obviously, like I said, we're just laying
- 48:07Speaker 13: more of that foundation and increasing our standard every day.
- 48:11Speaker 3: I'll tell you that is the key right there. And
- 48:14Speaker 3: the person who has coined the phrase the standard as
- 48:17Speaker 3: a standard, whoever has put that on the most T
- 48:19Speaker 3: shirts and been able to sell the most inventory with
- 48:22Speaker 3: the standard as a standard, is probably a bajillionaire by
- 48:25Speaker 3: this point, because that is what the saying has been
- 48:29Speaker 3: now for Texas Athletics, the standard is a standard. The
- 48:32Speaker 3: standard Now, after getting past the Elite eight for Vick
- 48:35Speaker 3: Shafer's fifth time making to the Final four as a
- 48:38Speaker 3: head coach or an assistant coach, his first time making
- 48:40Speaker 3: to the Final four as the head coach of the
- 48:43Speaker 3: Texas Longhorns, the standard is the standard. There are more
- 48:46Speaker 3: nets to cut down though, as they take on South
- 48:49Speaker 3: Carolina in the Final four, and as we get closer
- 48:53Speaker 3: to that game, we will talk more and more about
- 48:55Speaker 3: how these two teams match up and how Texas can
- 48:58Speaker 3: get revenge for that loss in the SEC Championship game.
- 49:02Speaker 3: In that tournament they had a couple of weeks ago.
- 49:05Speaker 3: All right, when we come back, Cole McCoy in the
- 49:06Speaker 3: Clean Pocket Podcast, talk to the head coach of the
- 49:09Speaker 3: Texas Long Horns, Steve Sarkasian. You're not going to miss this.
- 49:12Speaker 3: Talking about the quarterback arch Manning, what he brings to
- 49:16Speaker 3: the table. We'll talk about the next Sports Radio AM
- 49:19Speaker 3: thirteen hundred Zone.
- 49:24Speaker 4: It's the craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 49:27Speaker 4: Texas Longhorns in Hall of Vain.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Broadcast there craig.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Way Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. You can
- 49:35Speaker 3: follow me on Twitter at Andrew Underscore Zimmle. That's at
- 49:38Speaker 3: Andrew Underscore zimmele on Twitter. All right, Well, the Texas
- 49:45Speaker 3: Long Horns no spring game, but there are spring updates
- 49:49Speaker 3: and one of those updates came yesterday in the news
- 49:52Speaker 3: that Texas wide receiver Ryan Wingo sidelined with a hamstring injury.
- 49:57Speaker 3: The Horns could be without their sophomore for the remainder
- 50:00Speaker 3: of the spring practices. The latest comes as it seems
- 50:05Speaker 3: that he suffered a hamstring injury. It's not considered a
- 50:09Speaker 3: long term issue, but it puts a strand in the
- 50:12Speaker 3: wide receiver room for Texas, and a lot of folks
- 50:15Speaker 3: are saying, can there be a Can there be an
- 50:20Speaker 3: influx of players in the transfer portal as we get
- 50:23Speaker 3: closer to the beginning of what would be the season,
- 50:29Speaker 3: right as the season comes closer and closer day by day. Now,
- 50:33Speaker 3: Cole McCoy has a new podcast, The Former Longhorn stud
- 50:38Speaker 3: former Cleveland Brown Washington Redskin Bounced around the NFL in
- 50:45Speaker 3: is still one of my favorite college quarterbacks of all time,
- 50:48Speaker 3: one of the most winning.
- 50:49Speaker 2: College quarterbacks of all time.
- 50:51Speaker 3: The Clean Podcast Pocket Podcast with Jay Gruden and Cole
- 50:55Speaker 3: McCoy dropped an episode this morning with head coach Steve Sarkejia.
- 51:01Speaker 2: So of course this perked my ears up because I say.
- 51:05Speaker 3: To myself, Okay, wait, one more podcast to add to
- 51:08Speaker 3: my collection. I gotta subscribe and listen. And two, anytime
- 51:14Speaker 3: Sark is on one of these podcasts, he's gonna give
- 51:16Speaker 3: you a nugget. There's gonna be some information, There's gonna
- 51:19Speaker 3: be something there, you just have to look for it.
- 51:22Speaker 3: And luckily this episode was short. It was about twenty
- 51:26Speaker 3: minutes long, and you can find it wherever you get
- 51:27Speaker 3: your podcasts. It's on YouTube as well. I skimmed through
- 51:31Speaker 3: it and I was listening and there's different you know, chapters,
- 51:34Speaker 3: and they talk about the transfer portal, which we'll get
- 51:36Speaker 3: into here in a second, because I thought some of
- 51:38Speaker 3: the information he gave out was kind of interesting. But
- 51:40Speaker 3: he talked about Arch Manning and the development of Arch
- 51:44Speaker 3: to this point, talk about Arch.
- 51:47Speaker 2: How important was him being able to play three games
- 51:50Speaker 2: last year?
- 51:51Speaker 11: Huge man?
- 51:51Speaker 5: Huge?
- 51:52Speaker 14: I think first, anytime you're a backup and you have
- 51:55Speaker 14: to go into a game and really play in the.
- 51:57Speaker 11: Game, not the fo Yeah, get in there and hand the.
- 52:01Speaker 14: Ball off and throw a couple of quick outs like
- 52:03Speaker 14: he had to play, which was good man.
- 52:05Speaker 11: I think we saw some really things.
- 52:06Speaker 14: A we saw athleticism that was probably surprised a lot
- 52:10Speaker 14: of people. Be his ability to throw the deep ball
- 52:12Speaker 14: and the deep ball in our system and how important
- 52:14Speaker 14: that is to take advantage of his one on one
- 52:16Speaker 14: opportunities was huge. Third of the leadership, like this guy's
- 52:20Speaker 14: got a charismatic some dude.
- 52:24Speaker 3: You can feel the leadership that Arch Manning possesses. You
- 52:27Speaker 3: can feel it radiate off of him. And those are
- 52:30Speaker 3: the things that are intangibles, Those are the things that
- 52:33Speaker 3: people get made fun of like our friend Colin Cowhard
- 52:36Speaker 3: gets made fun of quarterback face that the guy who
- 52:40Speaker 3: was the best looking guy on the playground got to
- 52:43Speaker 3: be quarterback and then those guys ended up being NFL starters.
- 52:47Speaker 3: And Arch Manning has the pedigree, He obviously has the
- 52:49Speaker 3: last name, the dynastic name of Manning carries a ton
- 52:53Speaker 3: of weight. But you also have to have the skills
- 52:56Speaker 3: to back it up. So that's why when we have
- 52:58Speaker 3: talked about Arch at nauseum on podcast on air in Bars,
- 53:04Speaker 3: when we talk about the quarterback for the Texas Longhorns,
- 53:08Speaker 3: I have consistently said, strip it all of it away,
- 53:11Speaker 3: Take the name off, take the hype off as one
- 53:15Speaker 3: of the best quarterback prospects ever. Take all of that
- 53:18Speaker 3: and pull it away and give me what you see.
- 53:20Speaker 3: Give me the eyeball test. What do you see against
- 53:22Speaker 3: Mississippi State? What'd you see in that playoff game where
- 53:25Speaker 3: you came in for some plays? What do you see
- 53:28Speaker 3: in practice? Take it all the way, because there's a
- 53:30Speaker 3: lot of hype that you have to cut through here.
- 53:32Speaker 3: There's a lot of all the extra stuff. I think
- 53:35Speaker 3: it's big that there is obviously a quarterback fraternity at Texas.
- 53:42Speaker 3: There's obviously a quarterback fraternity at Texas, and when you
- 53:45Speaker 3: think about the twenty first century quarterbacks, there's four guys.
- 53:49Speaker 3: I think that there are four guys in the twenty
- 53:51Speaker 3: first century that you put in this special class that
- 53:55Speaker 3: is the when the guys are all together, when there's
- 53:58Speaker 3: a family reunion of Texas Longhorns, there's four quarterbacks who
- 54:03Speaker 3: are always going to be a seat at the dais,
- 54:05Speaker 3: They're always going to be at the front of the room.
- 54:08Speaker 3: It's Vince Young, Sam Ellinger Queen Yours at this point,
- 54:13Speaker 3: and it's coll McCoy and Cole McCoy and Vince Young
- 54:16Speaker 3: are obviously the two guys who every other quarterback will
- 54:19Speaker 3: be compared to. V Why because he was an incredible
- 54:22Speaker 3: athlete and he won a national championship and Cold McCoy
- 54:25Speaker 3: because he was a winner and he led some of
- 54:27Speaker 3: the best Longhorn teams to ever to ever come through.
- 54:33Speaker 3: So when Cob McCoy is talking about arch Manning, I
- 54:36Speaker 3: tend to listen a little closer when one of those
- 54:39Speaker 3: guys who is the guy I tend to tend spend
- 54:42Speaker 3: a little bit more time and a little bit more
- 54:44Speaker 3: weight because if there's ever gonna be a guy who
- 54:48Speaker 3: knows what it's like to be the guy. It's gonna
- 54:51Speaker 3: be coll McCoy, it's got to be cold McCoy and
- 54:54Speaker 3: Sarkejian kind of breaking it down to it, and he
- 54:56Speaker 3: goes on to talk about how this isn't a knock
- 54:57Speaker 3: on Quinn, but there's things that Arch does well well.
- 55:00Speaker 3: And I guarantee you there's things that Quentin did better
- 55:02Speaker 3: than Arch does now. But I love that we're kind
- 55:06Speaker 3: of turning the page that we now are not doing
- 55:09Speaker 3: this comparing contrast because every one of us was getting
- 55:12Speaker 3: sick of it. I guarantee you that you're in the
- 55:15Speaker 3: same boat I am with. I don't want to hear
- 55:18Speaker 3: about the comparing contrast between these two guys. Obviously they
- 55:21Speaker 3: do things a little bit differently. Obviously one does things
- 55:24Speaker 3: a little bit better than the other. I'm ready for
- 55:26Speaker 3: twenty eighty five. And in this podcast, the Cole mccaway
- 55:30Speaker 3: Clean Pocket Podcast, they talk a lot about where this
- 55:36Speaker 3: team is.
- 55:36Speaker 2: Can they get over the hump?
- 55:38Speaker 1: Wow?
- 55:38Speaker 3: They get over the hump? How have they been grinding
- 55:40Speaker 3: over the past three seasons? How have they gone from
- 55:43Speaker 3: being a team that won five games and year one
- 55:44Speaker 3: under Starts and now being at the doorstep of the
- 55:47Speaker 3: College Football National Championship in the previous two seasons, and
- 55:51Speaker 3: how there's guys on this roster who have been through
- 55:54Speaker 3: the highs and the lows, who know what it's like
- 55:56Speaker 3: to come up just short in these big games. What's
- 56:00Speaker 3: like to see a team like Ohio State win a
- 56:02Speaker 3: national championship.
- 56:04Speaker 2: It's big.
- 56:06Speaker 3: It matters, and another thing that matters, and another thing
- 56:10Speaker 3: that we're going to continue to talk about. Fans are
- 56:13Speaker 3: going to continue to talk about. Coach is going to
- 56:15Speaker 3: continue to talk about. Players are going to continue to
- 56:17Speaker 3: talk about it as a transfer portal, and how we
- 56:20Speaker 3: saw it in March Madness. We saw some of the
- 56:22Speaker 3: best coaches in the sport, guys like Tom Izzo who
- 56:28Speaker 3: railed against the transfer portal being opened during their postseason.
- 56:33Speaker 3: They're the most important time of the year. There's guys
- 56:35Speaker 3: who can opt out. The Sarkisian's in a similar spot
- 56:38Speaker 3: when it comes to the transfer portal.
- 56:40Speaker 14: The whole month of December, while we were in the
- 56:42Speaker 14: College Football playoffs, it was essentially free agency in college football.
- 56:46Speaker 14: Every player on our team could have went in that portal,
- 56:49Speaker 14: and we had nine guys go in at that time.
- 56:51Speaker 14: That's the first thing that comes to mind when I
- 56:53Speaker 14: think a portal is to make sure we keep the
- 56:55Speaker 14: right players on our team.
- 56:57Speaker 11: When we deal with the portal, we're about filling means.
- 57:00Speaker 14: I'm about building our roster from the ground up and
- 57:02Speaker 14: bringing in high school kids, developing him of our program,
- 57:05Speaker 14: getting them engulfed in our culture, into our schemes. But
- 57:08Speaker 14: yet the portal has provided an opportunity to fill those voids,
- 57:13Speaker 14: and we brought in some veteran players that have been
- 57:15Speaker 14: helpful for us there.
- 57:16Speaker 11: But we really don't major there.
- 57:17Speaker 3: Yeah, no, this is and I like what you said
- 57:20Speaker 3: at the end with the major, because I'm going to
- 57:21Speaker 3: make a good point here.
- 57:23Speaker 2: It's the You don't major in the transfer portal.
- 57:27Speaker 3: You can minor in it, you can dabble in it,
- 57:29Speaker 3: you can take a class in the transfer portal, but
- 57:31Speaker 3: your major has to be building a culture. That is
- 57:34Speaker 3: what your major has to be when you are the
- 57:37Speaker 3: head coach of a school like Texas. Yeah, there's other
- 57:40Speaker 3: schools who can build through the portal. There are going
- 57:42Speaker 3: to be some schools here pretty soon who are going
- 57:45Speaker 3: to make it deep into these playoffs. As the playoffs
- 57:47Speaker 3: expand there are gonna be teams who are playing in
- 57:49Speaker 3: semi final games that are completely new faces. That we're
- 57:54Speaker 3: going to have a era, and I'm calling it right now.
- 57:56Speaker 3: It's gonna bebout two or three years before this bad
- 57:59Speaker 3: kind of It's gonna be two or three years of
- 58:02Speaker 3: this where you're gonna get teams who are gonna go
- 58:05Speaker 3: to the playoffs with thirty new faces, with forty new faces.
- 58:08Speaker 3: And it's gonna take a very very special coach to
- 58:13Speaker 3: make that work and a very very special culture to
- 58:16Speaker 3: make that work. But when you're the head coach at
- 58:19Speaker 3: the University of Texas, you don't need.
- 58:20Speaker 2: To do that.
- 58:21Speaker 3: There are guys who want to be here. There are
- 58:23Speaker 3: guys who need to be here. Right You can go
- 58:27Speaker 3: and minor in the transfer portal. You can bring in
- 58:29Speaker 3: some extra talent, and when a guy like Trey Wingo
- 58:32Speaker 3: hurts his hamstring is out for the spring, you can
- 58:34Speaker 3: go in the portal and try to bring in a
- 58:35Speaker 3: little bit more talent and see, hey, let's add a
- 58:37Speaker 3: little bit more depth to this position in case of emergency.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Come regular season.
- 58:43Speaker 3: In the best conference in college football, you cannot afford
- 58:47Speaker 3: to be down a man, you cannot afford to have
- 58:49Speaker 3: a room that's very, very tight. When it comes to talent,
- 58:53Speaker 3: you want to have a ton of talent in the
- 58:56Speaker 3: room and next man out mentality. Last year, you think
- 58:59Speaker 3: about the Axis running back room, how it got plagued
- 59:03Speaker 3: by the injury bug early in the season and they
- 59:05Speaker 3: were able to balance back and have a very I
- 59:08Speaker 3: thought it was a pretty good running scheme and a
- 59:10Speaker 3: running game, even with guys on the IR.
- 59:15Speaker 2: I think that's important to do.
- 59:16Speaker 3: I think that's a big reason why the Longhorns have
- 59:19Speaker 3: continued to win the way they have in these past
- 59:21Speaker 3: previous two seasons with Sark. The transport for portal cannot
- 59:26Speaker 3: be the thing that you major in. It's got to
- 59:28Speaker 3: be a thing that you minor and you dabble in.
- 59:30Speaker 3: That cannot be the solution to your roster problems. And
- 59:36Speaker 3: we're gonna see it. It's gonna be the next two seasons,
- 59:38Speaker 3: I'm calling it. You're gonna see teams get to the
- 59:41Speaker 3: semifinals with thirty faces, and we're gonna say, Wow, these
- 59:45Speaker 3: are great teams, and Wow, these are great cultures, and
- 59:47Speaker 3: these are good coaches who were able to go do this.
- 59:49Speaker 2: But it does not last.
- 59:51Speaker 3: It's the difference between building a guy up and getting
- 59:55Speaker 3: him into a spot where he can go to the
- 59:56Speaker 3: NFL Draft and help you win national championships. It's that
- 59:59Speaker 3: type of cold versus the quick snack. The transfer portal
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: is a quick snack. It's a quick solution. It's a
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: protein bar. It's not a meal. It's a protein bar.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: It's not a meal. Building a culture is the meal,
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: and that's what Sarcasian is doing. A Texas all right.
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: When we come back, we'll hear from Craig Way as
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: well as Madison Booker, Rory Harmon, and Vick Schaeffer. After
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: a win in the Elite eight propels the Texas Long
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: Word Women to the Final four. All that coming up
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: next on The Craigway Show on Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: Andrews Im will hanging out with you. This Monday or
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: Tuesday edition of the Craigway Program is our number two
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: rolls on Now. Texas Women last night win big against TCU.
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: It was the most important game of the season, and
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: now it rolls into the most important game of the season.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: Every one of these games is a little bit more important.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Every one of these games carries a little bit more weight.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Last night's game carried a ton of weight, as Vic
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: and his team were trying to get to the Final
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Four for the first time since two thousand and three.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: Now they were able to thanks in part to Ry
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: Harmon and Madison Booker. The two combined for thirty one points,
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: eight rebounds, and seven assists in a fifty eight to
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: forty seven win for the Texas Longhorns. Madison Booker was
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: on the postgame show with Craig Way and this is
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: what it sounded like.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: Joining us now on the post game not only a
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: long horn player, but also the most outstanding player in
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: this region. Madison Booker, you have to help me here.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: How many times have you seen have you seen Kyla
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: make that move that she did with the steal and
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: outrun somebody like Sedona Prince to the end and lay
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: it in.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: I mean, it's not my first time, is your first
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: time I seeing it?
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: I feel like I've seen this before.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: I've seen like I said, I told Shay, I've seen
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: a lot of practices, but I didn't remember seeing her
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: make a move quite like that.
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: She does, you know, she does no, she does.
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: You must have missed it. You must have been going
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: so quick and she was going. I already made the LEO.
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: And I'm not surprised when this. I'm not surprised for
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: my team mateespecially Caller.
- 1:02:03Speaker 7: I mean, she's a dog, she's a.
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: She's definitely a paint disruptor. And I just love that today.
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: I know, like the last couple of days, you know,
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: she's been you know, kind of you know, and but
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: I think she really turned it up today. I think
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: she kind of shook off, you know, like the bad games,
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: and she really came back out and she was ready
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: to play where her name was called.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: And really the post players needed to step up with
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: a player like Prince, and I thought they did it.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: But it was really stout team defense. I thought all
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: the way over what you guys did against fan Lyft,
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: what you did against Madison Connor, I mean the key
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: weapons when yeah, I mean, hey.
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: That's just team defense. Also, our coach was he prepped
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: us very very well.
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: We watched the own a lie just you know on
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: her stets, you know, like their personnel. I mean we
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: knew their personnel, we knew the players that were gonna run.
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: We basically, you know, was trying to be a sub
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: ahead of them, and I think coach did a great job.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: I've asked you several times about these takeover moments, and
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: I said, Dan Left, does it pertec he would get
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: the fourth quarter, third fourth quarter games. I'm looking at
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: you in the fourth quarter and you had six critical
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: points in the fourth quarter to get the seventeenth. Is
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: it something in a within you that that clicks in
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: where you feel it or is it just an instinct
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: in the moment to do it.
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: I just I think, just you know, I want to win.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: It's just that moment where I want to win. And
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: my teammates they're you know, they're putting in my mind,
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: like my mentality to like we need to win, like
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: we need to win this game, like we're trying to
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: keep going, like we're not trying to stop right now.
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: So I just think that you know, we get to
- 1:03:32Speaker 7: the moment you're not tired.
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: You know this is we haven't played called long not play,
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: but a drill called long horn straight four minutes up
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: and down those thous timeouts know nothing. And that's why,
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: you know, that's what I think about the fourth quarters,
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: is this is a Long Horn.
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: This is basically a doord that situation.
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: Uh, you grew up in Mississippi. Did you go to
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: Tampa before? Have you been to Tampa.
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: I've been a couple of times for only my first rodeo.
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: But that, but but but you haven't been to a
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: thing like this.
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: I've been to the Final four yet. It's my first
- 1:03:58Speaker 7: Final four.
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: See, so there you go, and I know you're looking
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: forward to it, right, Yes, I am all right. Hey, congratulations, Matty,
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: appreciate it, thank you.
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: So all right.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: Madison Booker withs Madison Booker on the postgame show after
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: a win last night for the Texas Long Horns that
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: sends them to the Final four in Tampa Bay. Now
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: you heard it there. Towards the end, they talked about
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: the minutes play. Let's go through them because there was
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: a couple players in that thirty minute mark. Madison Booker
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: led the team in minutes thirty eight minutes last night,
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: Shay Holly thirty five minutes. Both those players starters, and
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: Rory Harmon rounded out with thirty four minutes of action.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: So yeah, going up and down the court, back and
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: forth in a game that was obviously about runs, the
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: Long Horns had a couple of them last night to
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: help them secure their first Final four since two thousand
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: and three. And now it will be the fourth time
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: that the Texas long Horns will be facing off against
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: South Carolina. And if you go through it, you remember
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: it's back and forth and back and forth. And I
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: went through this in my head. The last time I
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: was just locked in on who won the last game
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: was in twenty thirteen. Now this is a little embarrassing here.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: Twenty thirteen, the Spurs of the Heat played and I
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: was going back. It was back and forth, back, and
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: it was game seven and it was the Heats turned
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: to win a game that was back and forth. No
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: team went back to back games, right, And I look
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: at the game Cocks and Longhorns, South Carolina line of wins.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: Game one, game comes to the movie Center, Texas wins.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Game two.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: Game is played in Greenville, South Carolina, the SEC championship
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: game in the tournament.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: South Carolina gets it.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: Now we go to Tampa Bay and it might go
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: back to hey, back and forth and back and forth.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: You got it talking into existence, all right. Craig also
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: had time last night to talk to Rory Harmon, who
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: was one of the impact players obviously in the win
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: for Texas, ended up with thirteen points five assists, was
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: able to get her hand on two steals as well.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: And this is what it sounded like.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: Rory Harmon, who of course has been such a key
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: member of this all season long, comes over to join
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: us now and she puts on the headset. Now, I
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: just want to pick it up for a moment. Here,
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: here's the piece of the net that you just cut down.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: There was it was it difficult to cut down.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: The ease the one that's good.
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: You started off house of fire seven first quarter points
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: eleven in the first half. Did you feel a responsibility,
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: especially the way they were guarding Maddie early on, that
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: you were going to probably need to score more than
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: you normally do.
- 1:06:31Speaker 13: Yeah, honestly, like they were giving me some good shots, honestly,
- 1:06:34Speaker 13: like those were my spots, my shots. Unfortunately I can't
- 1:06:38Speaker 13: make them all.
- 1:06:38Speaker 7: I would like to make more than miss them.
- 1:06:40Speaker 13: But yeah, I think when you know, Madison helps me
- 1:06:44Speaker 13: out and I help her out, like just getting each
- 1:06:46Speaker 13: other the ball, and you know, if they're going to
- 1:06:48Speaker 13: chase her off and put three to four people in her,
- 1:06:50Speaker 13: I'm gonna find a way to get opened, hopefully.
- 1:06:53Speaker 7: Not down some shots.
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: It has been well established that you want to guard
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: the best player, so everybody expected you to be guarding
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: Hayley vanl What was that situation, like, how did that
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: come to you as you were guarding her, because you
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: guys did a great job on her, even on the
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: switches whoever.
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: Was picking her up.
- 1:07:11Speaker 13: Yeah, honestly, that was the plan for sure. I wanted
- 1:07:14Speaker 13: to try to stay on her as best as possible. Yeah,
- 1:07:17Speaker 13: I'm going to pick myself every time when it comes
- 1:07:19Speaker 13: to guarding team's best player. I trust myself and I
- 1:07:22Speaker 13: know I'm.
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: Starting on the ball.
- 1:07:24Speaker 13: So when I was, you know, we have great post hedges.
- 1:07:27Speaker 13: I'm on the ball getting good ball pressure than now
- 1:07:29Speaker 13: everybody else is playing as your heart. Now we're denying.
- 1:07:31Speaker 13: Now we're getting a shot clocked by a violations. Now
- 1:07:33Speaker 13: we're getting five second counts in the press. So that's
- 1:07:37Speaker 13: just that's just how we play defense, all know.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: That is absolutely Now. I got to ask you about
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: the third quarter. They come back.
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: They tied at twenty nine. First time they caught. Yeah,
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: that was at the halfway mark of the third quarter.
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: And you go on a thirteen to three run in
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: the third quarter.
- 1:07:51Speaker 13: What was the difference we started playing defense again. I
- 1:07:54Speaker 13: think our momentum with our offense always comes like stems
- 1:07:58Speaker 13: from our defense, so like we're not really getting a whole.
- 1:08:01Speaker 7: Bunch of buckets.
- 1:08:01Speaker 13: It's probably because we're not really playing that hard on
- 1:08:03Speaker 13: defense and we like to go and transition like confuse them,
- 1:08:06Speaker 13: like be fast paced. But yeah, I think we just
- 1:08:09Speaker 13: kept our composer understood, like we just did a run
- 1:08:11Speaker 13: to play, execute, take what they're giving us, and we
- 1:08:14Speaker 13: did pretty good at that.
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: All right, I gotta ask you this. I have to
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: ask you this.
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: I've asked everybody else this about Kyla that place she
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: makes me steel and driving in and your teammates have said,
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: oh yeah, we've seen her do it. We've seen her
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: do it too, but you have to admit it's not
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: the most common place thing on the planet, especially against
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: a player like Sedona.
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: Prints to get some of that size.
- 1:08:36Speaker 13: Oh my gosh, I was so happy.
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: I was so excited.
- 1:08:38Speaker 13: There's actually a picture out there when we were like
- 1:08:41Speaker 13: screaming at each other. She knows she can get she
- 1:08:43Speaker 13: cannot have a lot of emotion, but I love seeing
- 1:08:45Speaker 13: that emotion during today's game, And I mean, man, I
- 1:08:49Speaker 13: know she's.
- 1:08:49Speaker 7: Fast, she can move.
- 1:08:51Speaker 13: For some of her side, she can move, and so
- 1:08:53Speaker 13: I'm just super proud of her for like leaving it
- 1:08:55Speaker 13: out on the court, and like the rest of my team.
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: Of course, everything you've been through, not just the thing,
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: but everything you've been through to this point, the heartbreaks
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: and the excitement. Can you describe what the feeling is
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: right now knowing you're going to Tampa, knowing you're going
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: to the Final four.
- 1:09:10Speaker 13: Yeah, during the TV interview right after the game, Like
- 1:09:13Speaker 13: I was trying so hard and not be emotional, but
- 1:09:15Speaker 13: it's really hard because when you look back and see
- 1:09:17Speaker 13: what you went through and which you're almost still going through,
- 1:09:20Speaker 13: Like you know, you still have like mental battles every
- 1:09:22Speaker 13: once in a while, just be vulnerable, like you're not
- 1:09:24Speaker 13: like we're not just all perfect every day.
- 1:09:26Speaker 7: I still gotta word brace, so you know stuff like that.
- 1:09:28Speaker 13: Like just to think I came back in ten months
- 1:09:30Speaker 13: and now we're going to the Final four. I couldn't
- 1:09:34Speaker 13: be more happy and just grateful and just happy for
- 1:09:37Speaker 13: my team and my teammates.

- 1:10:04Speaker 3: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: hundred The Zone. Andrew Zimble in studio with you this

- 1:10:35Speaker 3: as the Morning Kick with Mike Harball, Harge and Mark
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: Henry the World's Strongest Man seven to nine am right
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: here on the Zone as well. And by the way,
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: programming notes, the zone is your home for Round Rock
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: Baseball and one oh three one will be your home
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: for Texas baseball. As the Longhorns get ready to take
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: on Texas State this evening, six point thirty four pitch,
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: you can hear it on one of three one. All right,
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: So we're gonna talk Texas women as they advanced the
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: final four. They advanced to Tampa Bay for the first
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: time since two thousand and three. Vick Schaeffer, Rory Harmon,
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: Madison Booker all moved to near tears when talking about
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: this team, when talking about the road that they took
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: to get to this point. So we'll hear all about
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: that in hour number three. But Brian Dable, the head
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: coach of the New York Giants, who many could say
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: is on a little bit of a hot seat, You
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: can make the case that he's on a hot seat
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: along with the GM and the rest of the front
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: office staff in New York after letting Saquon Barkley walk
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: out the door after the performance that they had last
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: season ends them up with the number three pick in
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: this year's draft. So it's Brown's okay, all right, it's
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: a correction. It's Titans, it's Browns, it's Giants, it's New
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: England to top four and it seems like it's the
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: obvious four players with Chador Sanders, cam Ward a duel
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: Carter the defensive end out of Penn State, and Travis
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: Hunter to do everything. Heisman winner out of Colorado. Now,
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: Brian Table had media availability today, as it is the
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: coaches meetings in Palm Sprains, Florida. He got asked about
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: the evaluation of Travis Hunter. Now, listen carefully to this.
- 1:12:26Speaker 15: Well, it takes a long time to evaluate him because
- 1:12:29Speaker 15: there's a lot of tape. It's a really remarkable what
- 1:12:32Speaker 15: he has done and the ability to perform at that
- 1:12:37Speaker 15: level not really getting arrest So he's been a fun
- 1:12:42Speaker 15: he's been a fun player to evaluate and to meet
- 1:12:46Speaker 15: and talk with the owner.
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: He's a heck of a player.
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: He obviously is a heck of a player. He is
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: the closest thing that we've gotten to Deon Sanders since
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: Deon Sanders. And we look through the NFL history and
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: the guys that are multi position guys. Most of the
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: time you end up with guys like Julian Edelman, who's
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: a kick returner, pumper, returner who turns into a slot
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: receiver who then turns into maybe an eventual Hall of
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: Famer as Super Bowl MVP. But Travis Hunter comes in
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: obviously a better talent, obviously better athlete than Julian Edelman,
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: obviously better athlete than Devin Hester even and he's not
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: going to be a pump return kick return guy. He
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: is a guy who wants to play both ways. He's
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: a guy who wants to play in every down of
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: an NFL game. Now, I've been on the record, and
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: I'm I've gone back and forth with this because Mark
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: Henry on the Morning Kickoff, big Shadoor guy, Big Travis
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: Hunter guy, big Colorado guy. First time I ever talked
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: to Mark Henry, it was about Colorado football, shockingly enough,
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: w W Hall of Famer, and our first conversations are
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: is shod Door Sanders Bill for the Big twelve. Okay,
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: I have decided that I am pro Shador. I decided
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: that I'm pro Travis Hunter. I'm now firmly in that camp.
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: You can't sway me.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: I'm in. I'm all the way in.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: But I do get concerned about Travis Hunter because he's
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: obviously a better wide receiver than his corner. You're gonna
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: get paid more as a wide receiver. You look at
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: the money that Tee Higgins, Dumar, Chase, Justin Jefferson to
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: bring it in. And I do think that Travis Hunter
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: could be that type of receiver. I think he could
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: be at one point or another, an all Pro wide receiver.
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: I don't think it's gonna be year number one when
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: you consider the quarterback situation that the Giants are in,
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: where it is Jameis Winston and it is Russell Wilson
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: and there and by the way, yeah, Tommy DeVito, that
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: is your quarterback room. You're not gonna have a ton
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: of success in year number one, I imagine if you're
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: Travis Hunter. But on the flip side of things, you
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: need a stud corner and he is a good cornerback.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: He's a guy who can play in multiple coverages. And
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: I've talked to guys who are of evaluating Travis Hunter's talent,
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: who are evaluating NFL talent coming into this year's draft.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: They all tell me he's not the best corner in
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: this draft. He might not be the best receiver in
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: this draft, but he does have the most upside to
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: be both meaning that his ceiling could be or is
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: in some people's mind higher than anybody else. So when
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: Dable says, hey, there's a lot of film that we
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: have to break down.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: I kind of.
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: I'm not kind of. I'm I'm calling him on this.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: I'm calling his bluff because there's nothing really to break down.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: To me.
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: You're either in on Travis Hunter or you're not. You're
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: either in on the idea that he can play both
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: ways and make an impact on both sides of the ball,
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: or you're not. Now, the thing about Dion Sanders and
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: the thing that has been kind of erased and swept
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: under the rug when he talking about the history of
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: Dion and what he did. He's an incredible athlete. He's
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: probably the best shutdown corner outside of Dereaul Reeves. I
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: would say Dion is the guy if you said to
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: me build a team and you got to build from
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: the outside end, he'd be one of those picks.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Obviously.
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: But Dion wasn't in every down receiver when he was
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: in the NFL. Deon Sanders was a guy who could
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: come in certain sets, but he wasn't in every down receiver. Right,
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: and if Travis Hunter wants to be in every single
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: down receiver and be in every down corner. That is
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: where I'm a little concerned. We get I'm all in,
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: I'm all in, but I'm a little concerned. And it's
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: not because I don't think he can do it. I
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: think there's a cardio aspect of it. You can't build muscle.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: You need to be muscle if you're a corner. You
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: need to be able to take on blockers. If you're
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: a corner in the NFL, and when you're in the
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: same division as Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles, who
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: are a ground and pound type of team, when you're
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: having to shed blocks from a guy like AJ Brown,
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: you gotta be strong. And I worry about the strength
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: of Travis Hunter, and there's nothing on film that's gonna
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: show me he's gonna be strong enough or not.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: When we come back, our number three of The Craigway
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: Show rolls on Texas Women advanced to the final four call,
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: McCoy talks to Steve Sarkeshan about the newest starting quarterback
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: of the Texas Longhorns, and Vic Shaffer emotional after the win,
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: all coming up next to The Craigway Show. Stick Around
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred of Zone A Texas.
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: Square Halt, Final four Cardinal, Dribble it out, Texas is
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: going to Tampa.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Have a Final four final score tonight A.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: Texas wore wards fifty eight, batist Horn Rocks forty seven.
- 1:17:36Speaker 9: I know I'm not their world.
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: What they are my world.
- 1:17:40Speaker 9: They say, you know, it's not who you are, it's
- 1:17:42Speaker 9: what you do. This is say why, this is what
- 1:17:46Speaker 9: I've done on my mind.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred of the Zone. Andrews Zim
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: will hanging out with you as we roll into our
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: number three of The Craigway Show. Hopefully you guys are
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: having an excellent afternoon. If you're a Longhorned fan, if
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: you're a women's college basketball fan, you're feeling.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: Pretty pretty pretty.
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: Good today as the Texas Longhorns move on to the
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: Final Four, their first Final four appearance since two thousand
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: and three.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: It's been a while.
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: Texas wins moves on advances against TCU. You heard craig
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: Way's final call there, fifty eight to forty seven is
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: your final in that.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Win the Texas Longhorns.
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: Wow, they played masterfully and we'll get to that here
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: in a second.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: I also want to do a programming note.
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: Longhorn Baseball is tonight as they take on Texas State.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: That game can be heard on one O three one
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: your home now for Texas Baseball Round Rock Express on
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: the zone going forward. Also news Max Blue Out for
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: the remainder of the regular season, according to sources, with
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: a thumb injury under underwent thumb surgery out at least
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: six weeks, according to Danny Davis from the Austin American
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: Statesman as well as Kendall Rogers from Division One Baseball,
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: So Jim Slashtangle is going to have his work cut
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: out for him as one of the hottest teams in
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: the SEC takes on a pretty solid Texas State squad.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: They're a spunky bunch down there in San Marcos, right.
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: They're a team that is gonna give you the old
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: college try. They're gonna work to try to get this win.
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: Game is at the Dish tonight. It's the inaugural or
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: in the inaugural campaign with Jim Sloshtangle's the best twenty
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: six game start in twenty one years. Texas is his
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: highest number three in Baseball America's top twenty five D
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: one Baseball perfect Game in USA today Coach Bowl all
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: have Texas at number five, and they have a big
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: series this upcoming weekend against Georgia, another team that's near
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: the top of the SEC standings. And it doesn't get
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: any easier in the SEC. So you're out Max Blue,
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: who's going to step it up, Who's going to find
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: that power punch, Who's going to find that extra energy,
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: the extra run support that you need to win games
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: in the SEC? Okay, Texas women. Last night, it's a
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: game that we had circle on the calendar. It was
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: the Texas two step between two of the best teams
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: in the state, a team in TCU who was saying
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: that they were the new reigning powerhouses in the state,
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: the champions of the Big Twelve, the conference that Texas
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: exited last season and first year in the SEC, they
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: were a game away from winning the SEC tournament and
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: they were one of the best teams in the country
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: going on a run this year where they only lost
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: to two teams, Notre Dame and South Carolina, both teams
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: one regular season lost each in the regular season obviously,
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: and then in the SEC tournament to South Carolina that
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: would give you your three losses. Tc was trying to
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: become that fourth team. Natason Booker and Rory Harmon did
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: not allow that to happen, combined for thirty one points.
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: Kayla Oldacre added nine points to help the long Horns
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: advance of their fourth Final four in program history, the
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: first final four for Vick Schaeffer, his third Final four
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: appearance all time, first as the head coach of the
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: Texas Longhorns.
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: Taylor Jones.
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: We talked about her at nauseum yesterday about having to
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: play down low the front court battle between Taylor Jones
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: and Sedona Prince. She opened the scoring for both teams
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: in the first period with a layup in the paint,
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: followed by Rory Harmon sinking back to back jumpers, including
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: a three pointer. Texas led TCU seven to one halfway
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: through the first quarter. To close out the period, the
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: Longhorns showed their defensive strength forth. TCU had eight turnovers,
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: marked the twenty sixth time the Texas has held an
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: opponent to double digit scoring in the first quarter, thirteen
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: to nine lead after one the second quarter, mid range
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: Jumper jumped out to a fifteen to nine lead to
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: close the first half. The long Horns limited TCU to
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: twenty five percent from the field. Harmon led the team
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: with eleven points in two steals, but Texas only led
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: by two at the half, twenty three to twenty one.
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: The second half tone it came again with Jones a
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: running layup twenty five to twenty one over TCU. After
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: forcing TCU's third in down violation, Texas regained the possession
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: and then jumped out to a thirty five thirty one
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: lead with three to fifteen left in the the third quarter.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: The final minutes, Jordan Lee Sega three point followed by
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: a Madison booker and one.
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: Leads to the left pointing.
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: Now the book were off a screen left baseline jumper
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: God and Teas fold.
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: And I can tell you when that play occurred. I
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: was on my couch, I was watching the game. I
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: jumped up and I knew that Texas was going to
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: have this one. It capped off a ten to run
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: going into the fourth quarter, where Texas led forty two
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: to thirty three to start the final period.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: This is the play of the game.
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: Post player Kyla Oldacre sank, a contestant mid range jumper.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Then she stole the inbound pass.
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: Dcud in bound the ball Heylee Van Lift lops it
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: up top for Prince, stolen from her, taken away by Oldaker.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Here's Kyla driving in a score.
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: It might not have been the prettiest play. It might
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: not be the play that got number one on Sports
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: Center's top ten. It did make the top ten. However,
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: it wasn't the number one play. It wasn't pretty. It
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: got the job done. The score led Texas to lead
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: forty seven to thirty six. Long Runs went on to
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: secure the spot in the first Final four since the
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: old three season, defeating TCU fifty four or fifty eight
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: to forty seven. But the Old Acre Coast to coast
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: play of the game was the talk of the town,
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: and it started with Madison Booker on the post game,
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: with our guy Craig Way.
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: Joining us now on the post game not only a
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: long worn player, but also the most outstanding player and
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: in this region.
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: Madison Booker, you have to help me here.
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: How many times have you seen have you seen Kyla
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: make that move that she did with the steal and
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: outrun somebody like Sedona Prince to the end and lay
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: it in.
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: I mean, it's not my first time, is your first
- 1:24:19Speaker 6: time seeing it? I feel like you've seen this before.
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: I've seen, like I said, I told Shay, I've seen
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: a lot of practices, but I didn't remember seeing her
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: make a move quite like that.
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: She does, you know she does.
- 1:24:29Speaker 7: No, she does.
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: You must have missed it. You must have been dried
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: so quick and she was going. I already made the LEO.
- 1:24:33Speaker 7: But I'm not.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: Surprised from this. I'm not surprised for my teammate, especially Kyler.
- 1:24:36Speaker 6: I mean, she's a dog, she's a she's definitely a
- 1:24:41Speaker 6: paint disruptor, and I just love that today.
- 1:24:43Speaker 7: I like the basket.
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: Couple of days, you know, she's just you know, kind
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: of you know, but I think she really turned it
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: up today. I think she kind of shook off, you like,
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: the bad games, and she really came back out and
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: she was ready to play where her name was called.
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: And really the post players needed to step up with
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: a player like Prince and thought they did it. But
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: it was really stout team defense up all the way.
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: What you guys did against Van Lyft, what you did
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: against Madison Connor.
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: I mean the key weapons where yeah. I mean, hey,
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: that's just team defense. Also our coaches. He prepped is
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: very very well. We watched the own a lie just
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: you know on their stets, you know, like their personnel.
- 1:25:19Speaker 6: I mean we knew their personnel, we knew the plays
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: that were gonna run. We basically you know, was trying
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: to be sep ahead of them. And I think coach
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: did a great job.
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: I've asked you several times about these takeover moments, and
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: I said, Dan left doesn't for tis even to get
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: the fourth quarter third fourth quarter games. I'm looking at
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: you in the fourth quarter and you had six critical
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: points in the fourth quarter to get the seventeen.
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: Is it something in a within you.
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: That that clicks in where you feel it or is
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: it just an instinct in the moment to do it.
- 1:25:48Speaker 7: I think he just you know, I want to win.
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: It's just that moment where I want to win, and
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: my teammates they're you know, they're putting in my mind,
- 1:25:58Speaker 6: like my mentality to like we need to win, we
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: need to win this game, like we're trying to keep going,
- 1:26:02Speaker 6: like we're not trying to stop right now.
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: Andrews and will fill in it for Craig Way. On
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: the Craigway Show. As we roll on now, I do
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: want to hear from Vick Schaeffer because this is now
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: the third or fourth time that the Longhorns and game
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: Cocks will face off against each other this season. Split
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: during the regular season, game Cocks up one game in
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: the series of this year. Due to that win in
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: the SEC Championship game, Big Shafer got asked in the
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: postgame interview, how do you feel that you've played South
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: Carolina multiple times?
- 1:26:34Speaker 9: I think in seventeen we had played them three times.
- 1:26:37Speaker 9: Also before we played him in the Final four. I
- 1:26:40Speaker 9: think that was our fourth time when we played him
- 1:26:41Speaker 9: in the National Championship game. So you know, we've we
- 1:26:47Speaker 9: obviously have. You know, we've had some experience with them.
- 1:26:51Speaker 9: We played really well at our place. We had a
- 1:26:54Speaker 9: bad quarter in the SEC tournament. They really came out
- 1:26:59Speaker 9: and put it on us the first half at their place.
- 1:27:02Speaker 9: So we have tons of experiences to draw from and
- 1:27:05Speaker 9: learn from. But again, we've got to learn and we've
- 1:27:10Speaker 9: got to be different. And you know, that's the thing
- 1:27:13Speaker 9: about their team Don's teams is that you know, you
- 1:27:18Speaker 9: know you're gonna get the same from them that you
- 1:27:20Speaker 9: try to impart on others too.
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: They're gonna be tough.
- 1:27:23Speaker 9: You know, They're gonna be aggressive, They're gonna be physical,
- 1:27:26Speaker 9: and if you don't bring an edge with you to
- 1:27:29Speaker 9: that fight, you ain't gonna be much fun. And so
- 1:27:33Speaker 9: I think that that's what our kids have come to
- 1:27:36Speaker 9: know and learn. I've known it for a long time.
- 1:27:39Speaker 9: I've had to you know, I've got several experiences with them.
- 1:27:42Speaker 9: So but you know, for a day, I'm gonna let
- 1:27:44Speaker 9: these kids enjoy this. Tomorrow we'll have a plan, and
- 1:27:49Speaker 9: there's no question in my mind these kids will embrace
- 1:27:52Speaker 9: the opportunity.
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: This one is for all the marbles. I said, this
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: is the biggest game of the year, Texas and South Carolina.
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: I'm glad that it's the two teams in the SEC
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: that all year battled back and forth with each other
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: for supremacy of the ap standings for supremacy of the conference.
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: That it's going to come down to the winner of
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: this one moving on to the National Championship to play
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: the winner of the UCLA and Yukon. All Right, when
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: we come back, Longhorn Legend sits down with the sitting
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: head coach to talk about the newest quarterback on the
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: forty acres. All coming up next on the Cragway Show
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Andrew Zim will hanging out
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: with you this afternoon as we continue to roll on

- 1:29:26Speaker 3: You'll have them all set there for you make them
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: the presets one through four.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: Everywhere that you.
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: Can hear Texas Athletics, you can hear on your iHeartRadio
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: app All right. We will also hear from a Vic
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: Schaeffer as he talks about the impact of his players,
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: why he fell to his knees, and he reflects on
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: his journey to get to this point with this team.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: Now they've been to the Allitiate a number of times.
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: The first time that Texas is getting to the Final
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: four under Vick Schaeffer, the first time that the Texas
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: women are getting to the Final four were since the
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: three seasons, So we will hear about that a little
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: later in this hour as well. But Cole McCoy, Jay Gruden,
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: both guys who were in Washington with the Commanders then
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: the Redskins coach col McCoy. Now they have a podcast.
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: An episode came out earlier today, the Clean Pocket Podcast
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: with col McCay and Jay Gruden and Cole McCoy lender
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: Longhorn one of the most important quarterbacks of my lifetime,
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: not only on the forty Acres but just across college athletics.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: When you talk about college football in.
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: The two thousands, Cole McCoy's name has to be spoken
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: about the same way you have to speak about Sam Bradford,
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: same way you have to speak about Tim Tebow and
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: Vince Young and Matt Liner and so on and so forth.
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: Cole mccoway is on the Mount Rushmore of Texas Longhorn Quarterbacks.
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: So when I saw that he had Sarkesian on the podcast,
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: immediately my years per cup because okay, anytime at the
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: University of Texas head coach speaks, when Sarkisian speaks, I listen.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: When Sarkisian speaks, He's gonna give me a nugget. He's
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: gonna give me something. Maybe it's not everything I want,
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: maybe it's not a ton, but he's gonna give me
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: something that I can pick at, a little bit that
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: I can I can analyze.
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: I can take right.
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: And he spoke with Cole mccoay, a guy who understands quarterbacking,
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: and they talked about quarterback one, the guy who's going
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: into the twenty twenty five twenty six season trying to
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: take the Longhorns over the hump, to get them to
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: the point to win an out, to play for a
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: national championship, to potentially win a national championship, that guy
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: being Arch Banning. Sarkisian spoke to Cole McCoy about Arch.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: Talk about Arch. How important was him being able to
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: play three games last year?
- 1:31:52Speaker 11: Huge man huge.
- 1:31:53Speaker 14: I think first, anytime you're a backup and you have
- 1:31:56Speaker 14: to go into a game and really play in the game,
- 1:31:59Speaker 14: not the yeah, hey get in there and hand the
- 1:32:03Speaker 14: ball off and throw a couple of quick outs like
- 1:32:04Speaker 14: he had to play, which was good man.
- 1:32:06Speaker 11: I think we saw some really these A.
- 1:32:08Speaker 14: We saw athleticism that was probably surprised a lot of people.
- 1:32:12Speaker 11: Be his ability to throw the d ball and the deep.
- 1:32:14Speaker 14: Ball in our system and how important that is to
- 1:32:16Speaker 14: take advantage of as one on one opportunities was huge. Third,
- 1:32:20Speaker 14: the leadership, like this guy's got a charismatic active to
- 1:32:25Speaker 14: feel it.
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: So it's kind of funny too when you hear how
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: quickly cob Koy moves off of the backup quarterback having
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: to play in the game, right, I wonder why that
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: could be. But he does talk about Cole, He talks
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: about arch Manning how important it is for him to
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: get those reps as a starter last season and to
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: be put in a position last year to get those
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: game reps, and it's, yeah, obviously it's important that you
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: want to get that game speed, especially when you have
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: a young QB who is going to take over the
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: program and try to take you to that next level.
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: There are things that arch Manning does very very well physically.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: Is a gifted guy. I don't think he is anything
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: like his uncle's in that way. Eli and Peyton. You
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: go back and you watch the tape from their high
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: or their high school and their college days. They were
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: not nearly as large and they're not nearly as athletic.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: And maybe that's partly.
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: Because of modern training, but it also might just be
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: the gene that arch has that he's much more like
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: his brother, his dad Cooper, who according to reports, was
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: a lot more like their dad Archie. Right, He's a
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: more athletic, more mobile type of quarterback. And Arch Manning
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: has put on a little bit of weight. When it
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: comes to the weight room, He's not, you know, the
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: smallest guy. You're looking at Peyton and some of those
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: clips from the draft combine and those clips from his
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: rookie year, it's a pretty slender individual.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: Ars Manning is not that he's a he's a pretty
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: cut guy you think about. Okay, Yeah, he has all
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: these intangibles on the field, but off the field, in
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: the locker room, it's very difficult to command a room.
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: Anybody who's done any public speaking will tell you that.
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: Anybody who's paid attention to college quarterbacks will tell you
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: that if you have an aloof QB, if you have
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: a quarterback that cannot command the room, if there's another
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: guy in the locker room that has to be the
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: alpha and it's not your QB, your team might be
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: in trouble. Did you see it happen in the pros?
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: All the time guys get drafted, they're expected to lead
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: the troops or expected to be a leader of men.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: And if your quarterback is not that, maybe he's a
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: guy who likes to play call of duty. Maybe he's
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: a guy that likes to go out and doesn't do
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: the team camaraderie stuff. Maybe he's a guy who just
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: is a recluse. If you don't have a quarterback who
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: can connect with the team, you're in trouble. But you
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: hear Sarkisian talk about arch banning, and it's like, hey, no,
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: this is a guy that just just bleeds, just oohs
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: his charisma. He's a guy that can lead his team
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: on the field. And you saw that off the field
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: last year on social media. You saw it on the
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: field a little bit last year. The games that he played.
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: But that's a confidence booster. And again, you're looking for something.
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: You're looking for some angle, You're looking for something that
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: you can take away from what Sarkisian says to give
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: you a little bit more insight in the quarterback process.
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: A quarterback himself, I give quarterback coaches and coaches who
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: work quarterbacks a little bit more credence when it comes
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: to how important the position is. Yeah, obviously we know
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: it's the most important position in sports. Obviously we know
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: that you have to have a good one if you
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: want to win at the highest level. But when you
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: have a coach who was a college quarterback, pretty good
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: institution BYU, and he knows what great quarterback looks like
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: at the college level. When he says a arch man
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: has all the intangibles, yeah, part of it might be
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: coaches park and speak and most of it. Some of
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: it could also be, Yeah, it's my guy. I'm gonna
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: defend him. I'm gonna take it for truth, I'm gonna
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: take it for payd him. I'm gonna keep it moving,
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: all right. They also talk about the most hot but
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: the hot button topic right now in college athletics, which
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: is the transfer portal, and what the Longhorns are doing
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: in the portal, and how Sarkisian is going about it.
- 1:36:10Speaker 14: The whole month of December, while we were in the
- 1:36:12Speaker 14: college football playoffs, it was essentially free agency in college football.
- 1:36:16Speaker 11: Every player on our team.
- 1:36:17Speaker 14: Could have went in that portal, and we had nine
- 1:36:19Speaker 14: guys go in at that time. That's the first thing
- 1:36:22Speaker 14: that comes to mind when I think a portal is
- 1:36:24Speaker 14: to make sure we keep the right players on our team.
- 1:36:27Speaker 14: When we deal with the portal, we're about filling means.
- 1:36:29Speaker 14: I'm about building our roster from the ground up and
- 1:36:32Speaker 14: bringing in high school kids, developing him on our program,
- 1:36:35Speaker 14: getting him engulfed in our culture, into our schemes. But
- 1:36:38Speaker 14: yet the portal has provided an opportunity to fill those voids,
- 1:36:43Speaker 14: and we brought in some veteran players that have been
- 1:36:45Speaker 14: helpful for us there.
- 1:36:46Speaker 11: But we really don't major there.
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: Which is the way to do it. And I brought
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: this up a little earlier. You don't want a major
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: in the portal. You want a minor in the portal.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: You want to dabble in the portal. You want a
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: major in culture. You want a major in culture. You
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: bring high school guys in. You bring early graduates in,
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: you indoctrinate them into the way that you want things done.
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: You indoctrinate them in the way that you want your
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: program to run. You want to fit into the mold
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: that we are building at the University of Texas. You
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: don't want guys who are mercenaries. Hey, this is the
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: third school in four years for a guy. Hey, this
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: is a guy who's bounced around. He doesn't find a
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: way to get along with his teammates or his coaches.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: You don't want that.
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: You don't want any distraction brought in now with the
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: news that Ryan Wingo's sideline for the spring. Okay, well,
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: now that brings a little bit more of a microscope
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: onto the wide receiver room. So maybe you do go
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: into the transport you try to add a little bit
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: more talent there. Maybe that is a position group that
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: you're looking to add something too. And if you are, well,
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: did they fit the culture? We look at this in
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: the NFL all the time. There is the patriot its way, right,
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: the guys who fit the way that Belichick wanted things
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: to run. Yeah, I can go get an Ochocinco at
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: the end of his career. I'm go bring in a
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: Randy moss I, bring in outspoken allowed someone would say
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: a diva quarter or a wide receiver. But are they
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: going to fit the system? Are they willing to put
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: the ego? Leave the ego out the door, leave the
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: baggage at the door, and come into my system and
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: play for me the way that I need them to
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: to execute the way that I need them to.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: That is big.
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: It's a lot easier to do that with a guy
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: you're recruiting out of high school than it is a
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: guy on his.
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: Third team or fourth team.
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: In some ways, it's a much more important to dabble
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: in the transfer portal. Go to it when you need it,
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: but don't go to it all the time. I said
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: that this is the protein bar of college athletics. Is
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: a transfer portal. Yeah, it might fill you up for
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: a short time, but you're not going to be able
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: to fill yourself up on it. You can't win consistently
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: only dipping into the transfer portal. There's gonna be teams
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: to try it. There's gonna be teams that are gonna
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: go far in other conferences, just rebuilding a year after
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: year after year. Thirty guys, forty guys out of the
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: portal every single season, and they're gonna try to compete
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: at the level to win national championships. And it's not
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: gonna work because you cannot microwave success. The Longhorns are
- 1:39:25Speaker 3: not microwaving success. Sarkesian refuses to try to do that.
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: He wants to build a culture. You can see it.
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: The proof is in the pudding. This team is on
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: their way to bring a championship back to Texas. All right,
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: when we come back, speaking of bringing a championship back
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: to Texas, the Texas Longhorn Women Final four appearance of
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: the first time since two thousand and three. Vic Shafer
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: has moved to tiers. Will tell you why on sports
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: hundred The Zone. We'll hear from Vic Shafer here in
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: a moment about his impactful players and being moved to
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: near tiers. After the final buzzer sounds as the Longhorns
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: move on to Tampa Bay to take on USC. The
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: South Carolina Game Cox only USC remaining. The Game Cocks
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: in Tampa Bay in the final for their first matchup
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: in over a decade, making it back to the Final four. Well,
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: a lot of movement happened in college basketball. One of
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: those moves that was official today, So Kevin Willard leaves
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: College Park, Maryland to take the Villanova job. That a
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: hire happened Sunday. Well, the news today Texas A and
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: M's A Buzz Williams finalized a six year deal to
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: become the next head coach of Maryland. Now, the move
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: happened today brings a veteran head coach from the SEC
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: to the Big Ten. Marks one of the highest profile
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: moves of this coaching cycle. You go through some of
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: those other ones, Oliver obviously, Willard jumping to Villanova, Sean
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: Miller moving from Xavier to Texas, and Darian Devriez jumping
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: from West Virginia to Indiana. So the Texas A and
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: M fighting Aggies looking for another head coach versus jimbo Elise,
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: Mike Elko comes in, and Schloshneggle leaves, and now Buzz
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: Williams leaves. I don't know why anybody wouldn't want to
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: stick around to College Station. That's just a tough tough
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: spot to be in for the Aggies, all right. Uh,
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: it's Big Shaffer yesterday able to cut down the nets
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: for the first time at the University of Texas to
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: move on to the final four uh and play for
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: a play for a semifinal, try to get to the
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: national championship. Every single coach you talk to, every Division
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: one coach, men's and women's will tell you the hardest
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: game to win is the Elite eight matchup. The Long
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: Words had struggled to get over that hump, and now
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: they finally have. Now there's a lot of success on
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: the other side. Vick Shaeffer got asked in the final
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: moments when the buzzer rang and the clock ran down,
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: what was going through your head when you fell to
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: your knees.
- 1:41:49Speaker 9: Like I said, I mean, you can want something so
- 1:41:52Speaker 9: bad for somebody and for some you know, for this team,
- 1:41:55Speaker 9: I wanted it really bad for him. And you know,
- 1:41:58Speaker 9: I'm I'm emotionally invested in what I do. It's not
- 1:42:01Speaker 9: a check for me. Like I'm in this game and
- 1:42:06Speaker 9: I see and it's fine, it's okay if that's what
- 1:42:09Speaker 9: it is, But it ain't for me. This is not
- 1:42:12Speaker 9: a check. This is who I am. Unfortunately, a lot
- 1:42:16Speaker 9: of people say it's not who you are, it's what
- 1:42:18Speaker 9: you do.
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: But for me.
- 1:42:19Speaker 9: It's who I am. I can't sugarcoat that. There's no
- 1:42:23Speaker 9: denying it. My family has suffered throughout the course of
- 1:42:27Speaker 9: time with time away from them. My kids suffered when
- 1:42:30Speaker 9: they were young because I was so invested with who
- 1:42:32Speaker 9: I was and what I was doing.
- 1:42:34Speaker 11: For Coach Blair.
- 1:42:36Speaker 9: But this is the life I've chosen to live. And
- 1:42:40Speaker 9: so when you're sitting there in the minutes are ticking off,
- 1:42:44Speaker 9: the seconds are taken off, and I have so much
- 1:42:47Speaker 9: pride for my kids, Like I'm so proud of them,
- 1:42:50Speaker 9: how hard.
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: They played today.
- 1:42:52Speaker 9: Like nobody, anybody that watched that game today when they
- 1:42:56Speaker 9: turned the TV off, they had to go, Wow, that
- 1:42:58Speaker 9: freaking team plays as off. Excuse me, but you just
- 1:43:04Speaker 9: have to be you have to admire them. And for me,
- 1:43:07Speaker 9: I was just giving thanks to the Good Lord for
- 1:43:10Speaker 9: blessing me with them and for that moment, because I
- 1:43:14Speaker 9: take it as a real blessing. You know, we just
- 1:43:18Speaker 9: these times are fleeting, y'all. People want to talk about, Well,
- 1:43:24Speaker 9: you've been here seven out of the last eight years,
- 1:43:26Speaker 9: and you know you didn't make it five of the years,
- 1:43:29Speaker 9: and but you know, we did make it two of them,
- 1:43:30Speaker 9: and they were pretty good. Teams.
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: And but that's the media, right.
- 1:43:35Speaker 9: I mean, everybody's got their their own opinion about things.
- 1:43:40Speaker 9: You know, when we walked out of the championship game
- 1:43:43Speaker 9: at the SEC tournament, you got people wanting to complain
- 1:43:47Speaker 9: about my offense and we can't make it to the
- 1:43:50Speaker 9: final four because of our offense. Well I've watched other
- 1:43:53Speaker 9: teams play and they're scoring fifty points, fifty four points,
- 1:43:55Speaker 9: and ain't nobody complaining about their offense. But that's just
- 1:44:00Speaker 9: the scrutiny that I guess I get, my team gets.
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:44:04Speaker 9: It's not very fair, but that's the world, right, that's life.
- 1:44:07Speaker 9: So you just put your head down and you go
- 1:44:09Speaker 9: to work. You do what's got you where you've where
- 1:44:11Speaker 9: you where you've gone. And you know what, in my mind,
- 1:44:16Speaker 9: it's it's it's it's.
- 1:44:17Speaker 11: It's what's helped us win.
- 1:44:19Speaker 9: My kids embrace it and they love it. And so,
- 1:44:22Speaker 9: you know, we can be better.
- 1:44:23Speaker 5: Certainly, we can be better.
- 1:44:25Speaker 9: Offensively, we can be better, and a lot of things
- 1:44:27Speaker 9: we can be better. Going to offensive board. We used
- 1:44:29Speaker 9: to be really good going to the offensive boards. Two
- 1:44:31Speaker 9: months ago, we were one of the best teams in
- 1:44:33Speaker 9: the country who got forty something percent of our offensivenesses,
- 1:44:36Speaker 9: we've kind of lost that edge a little bit. I
- 1:44:38Speaker 9: got to help them get it back in about a
- 1:44:40Speaker 9: three day time.
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: So, but you know, I was just grateful and thankful.
- 1:44:47Speaker 9: I felt blessed by the Lord, and I felt like
- 1:44:48Speaker 9: I needed to thank him in honorum makes sense.
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: Big shave for the head coach of the Texas Women
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: falls to his knees, clearly emotional about this team, clearly
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: love and enjoys his players, but he mentioned that this
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: long warrant team is made to the Elite eight seven
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: of eight years. Madison Booker, sophomore, watched Vic Shaffer win
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: a national championship in Mississippi State and was part of
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: the team last year that came up just short. How
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: does it feel to get over that Elite eight hump?
- 1:45:18Speaker 7: I know it.
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: I mean I was trying to tell somebody it means
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: a lot to us, but I think it means a
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: lot more to coach Schaeffer.
- 1:45:25Speaker 7: I mean, if you all just had a camera just.
- 1:45:27Speaker 6: Kind of following around, you know, like the Dan Lyons
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: or Vig Shaeffer, I just think that you'll be the
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: gym all day and you'll be and his offense, watch
- 1:45:32Speaker 6: a film with him all day and just a dedication
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: that this coach has, and just like the want he
- 1:45:38Speaker 6: wants for us, you know, to be a great basketball player,
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: especially a great team like I think he deserves it,
- 1:45:45Speaker 6: like he puts in a word, I mean he's not
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: playing a minute right now. We are, and I just think,
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: you know, for us to kind of come out today
- 1:45:53Speaker 6: especially and played this great like U team, great offense,
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: and just play defense, I mean, like that's game of
- 1:46:00Speaker 6: the game from him, is defense, defense when it's games,
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: and just to be focused, like locked in like first
- 1:46:06Speaker 6: five minutes.
- 1:46:06Speaker 7: I just think that means a lot to him.
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: And I'm happy, you know, to be part of that
- 1:46:11Speaker 6: and to help him, you know, get to the final four.
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: I watched him the Missy State and I'm happy to
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: you know, be a part of it in Texas now.
- 1:46:18Speaker 6: But no, it means a lot to us, I think,
- 1:46:20Speaker 6: you know, when I also think about the summer workouts
- 1:46:22Speaker 6: to conditioning, like it's paying off, you know. I was
- 1:46:26Speaker 6: just thinking about that in the locker room, like dang,
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: I really been on this team all the time. We've
- 1:46:32Speaker 6: been through everything, conditioning, tired on the ground, locker room
- 1:46:37Speaker 6: gassed out, But no, I mean, these are the moments
- 1:46:41Speaker 6: that you know, you work for and you dream for,
- 1:46:43Speaker 6: and it's fun.
- 1:46:45Speaker 7: But you know, sometimes you look back and like, dang,
- 1:46:47Speaker 7: we've been.
- 1:46:47Speaker 11: Through a lot.
- 1:46:48Speaker 6: But just also, just for this man, Vic Shafer right here, I'm.
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: Happy to do it for him, and you see that
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: type of relationship. It was cool too because Roy Harmon
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: was one of the first players should climb up on
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: the ladder to cut the nets. She got asked what
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: was it like to get the directions from Vick Shaeffer,
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: because he's cut down his fair share of nets? What
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: was it like to get directions climbing the ladder.
- 1:47:11Speaker 13: You know, he's always going to be looking after us,
- 1:47:14Speaker 13: for sure, in every situation, even climbing up climbing up
- 1:47:17Speaker 13: a ladder so which is actually kind of dangerous, but
- 1:47:20Speaker 13: he was going to be right there just in case.
- 1:47:21Speaker 13: So I'm gonna I appreciate him for all of that.
- 1:47:25Speaker 13: But that kind of just shows you what type of
- 1:47:26Speaker 13: person he is, not what type of coach, but what
- 1:47:28Speaker 13: type of.
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: Person he is, and one of the best people on
- 1:47:31Speaker 3: the forty acres, one of the best coaches in college basketball,
- 1:47:34Speaker 3: one of the best men in college athletics. All right
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: when we come back, will wrap up our three of
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: the Craigway Shows. Sends you on your way. All happening
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: next on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone as we wrap up
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: another edition of the Craigway Show.
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: Craig Way will join us tomorrow afternoon from Tampa Bay
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: as the University of Texas had their send off today.
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: Teams should be traveling, should be getting there right about now.
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: Gonna join us maybe potentially from the arena, could be
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: via phone. We will find out highlighting previewing Texas and
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: South Carolina Friday six pm. Tip you can hear it
- 1:48:18Speaker 3: on KAVET FM. The FM signal will carry the game
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: right here on the Zone. Tonight is Round Rock Baseball
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: and on one oh three one it is Texas Baseball
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: as the number five team in the country of the
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: Texas Long Horns take on Texas State first pitch six
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: point thirty pm. Pregame begins at six fifteen airtime. Keith
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: Moreland and Roger Wallace will be on the call for
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: that one. We also will have an update on the
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: musical chairs of a college sports as their players moving
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: and grooving, coaches leaving and coming all over the place,
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: as the transfer port will wide open, and we now
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: have seven of the eight one seeds. Seven of the
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: eight one seeds on the men's and women's side of
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: things advance to the Final four. We mentioned this a
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: little bit yesterday, but it's very unique. It's the first
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: time since two thousand and eight that the men's side
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: of things has all the final four teams being one seeds.
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: And it makes for a funny fonder for office water
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: cooler talk because you always make fun of the team,
- 1:49:27Speaker 3: or you always make fun of the person who has
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: the bracket who just picks the higher seed throughout. And
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: I always laugh at ESPN when you're filling out the brackets,
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: it gives you the option to auto fill, and it
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: says like, do you just want to take the higher seed?
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: Going through? Nine point.
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: Percent of the time you say, no, I'm gonna have
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: an upset. I'll have this twelve seed b to five,
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: or I think that this Cinderella story will go past
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: the sweet sixteen and then teams like this years like
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: this happened where it is all one seeds going to
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: the final four on the men's side of things. On
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: the women's side of things that you know upstart Spunky
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: two seed Yukon is the only non one seed in
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: the final four. But on the mens side of things,
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: it's usually interesting staff for him. Ten best Ken Palm teams. Ever,
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: the ranking goes all the way back to the ninety
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: six ninety seven season, so about thirty almost thirty years ago.
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: Four of the top ten are playing in San Antonio
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: on Saturday. Those four teams being number two, Duke thirty
- 1:50:33Speaker 3: nine point six, Ken Palm rating number six, Houston thirty
- 1:50:37Speaker 3: six and a half, kim Palm Rating number eighth, Florida
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: thirty six kim Pom rating, and Auburn a thirty five
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: point two.
- 1:50:45Speaker 2: They're the ten.
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: Now, Ken Palm is the adjusting of your strength of
- 1:50:50Speaker 3: schedule and adjusting on how your opponents do. And this
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: is ridiculous. Those four teams who are in the final
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: four on the men's side. I did in San Antonio
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: this weekend. One hundred and thirty five and sixteen is
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: the combined score of Duke, Houston, Florida, and Auburn. Now, ironically, obviously,
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: the two teams that are in the sec Alburn and
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: Florida having to play each other. They didn't want an
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: all SEC championship, which I understand. I understand why the
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: schedule lakers did that. I understand why the bracketologists did that.
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: You got to try to protect them right, make sure
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: it's not all SEC, even though it is the best conference.
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: Proof is in the pudding. I will say, of the
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: four teams, the two teams that I'm rooting the hardest
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: for app ironically are playing each other, which was Duke
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: and Houston. When I was down the river Walk this
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: past weekend, Blue Devil fans already filling the streets, Houston
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: fans making the three hour drive to San Antonio already
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: fill in the streets. I want one of those two
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: teams to win. I don't care who wins, but that
- 1:51:52Speaker 3: is my pick. I'm picking that side of the bracket.
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: Two of my brackets I have Duke, and two of
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: my brackets I have Houston winning the entire thing. And
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: finally we wrap up the show on this we are
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: on Rogers Watch. It is the Palm Springs, the coaches,
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: the owners, they're all meeting in Florida, and Aaron Rodgers
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: is still unsigned and aren't Rooney the second The Pittsburgh
- 1:52:16Speaker 3: Steelers president and owner keeps saying he's hearing the star
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: quarterback is quote headed their direction.
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: Quote.
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: We keep getting positive signals about it, Rudey said on Tuesday,
- 1:52:25Speaker 3: the annual league meeting. So yeah, I say we feel
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: pretty good at this point. One of those signs the
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: quarter of Rudy is that Rogers and Steelers new receiver
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: DK Metcalf have had throwing sessions in California. He said, quote,
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: I would like it to be a good sign if
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: he wanted.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: To do that.
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: The Steelers are in a very difficult position. If you
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: were listening to Colin Cowhert show earlier today on the Zone,
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: he was saying that it feels like everybody has moved
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: past Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh is the team that you wanted
- 1:52:55Speaker 3: to have success. You expect them to have success. They
- 1:52:58Speaker 3: have a history of success, and yet the most critical,
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: most crucial position on the field, the quarterback position, continues
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: to go unaddressed. You have to also consider this, It's
