- 0:05Speaker 1: Here we go, people, Here we go. Power rankings. I'll
- 0:10Speaker 1: give you guys a guest who I'm gonna go first,
- 0:12Speaker 1: just because I can't wait to get laughed at it.
- 0:14Speaker 1: How much of my power rankings have changed, which is fine,
- 0:17Speaker 1: it doesn't bother me. But I will give you one
- 0:19Speaker 1: guess who my number one team is on my power.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Rankings for the last two years or just this month.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Every one of these we've ever done. The Doyers, there
- 0:31Speaker 1: you go, boom pretty easy. The Dodgers. I know they
- 0:33Speaker 1: don't have the best record. I think the Brewers passed
- 0:35Speaker 1: them by half a game or one game. But they're
- 0:37Speaker 1: still the Dodgers, Like Kenny Kenny Salad said, they're playing
- 0:42Speaker 1: for October and that's where they're at. So the Dodgers
- 0:45Speaker 1: will run through mind and be real quick. Dodgers are one,
- 0:48Speaker 1: Brewers are two. Braves. Phillies are kind of like three
- 0:51Speaker 1: A three B. I know the Braves are a little
- 0:52Speaker 1: bit ahead. Then I get to the American League and
- 0:54Speaker 1: I feel like the Rays and Yankees are five A
- 0:56Speaker 1: and B, five and six. And this is where it
- 0:58Speaker 1: gets interesting for you people out there. They can oh
- 1:01Speaker 1: hate on me on the internet. I put the White
- 1:03Speaker 1: Sox in front of the Cubs. Why because the White
- 1:06Speaker 1: Sox are always better than the Cubs. That's it. That's
- 1:08Speaker 1: my reason. The White Sox in first place the Cubs
- 1:10Speaker 1: are not. The record is different. I don't care if
- 1:13Speaker 1: the White Socks will always be better in the Cubs.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And then I threw the Mariners in there at nine,
- 1:17Speaker 1: just because I think at some point they're gonna get hot.
- 1:19Speaker 1: They're over five hundred. Cal Rawley had a big hit.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I know he's struggling, but he had a big hit
- 1:23Speaker 1: home run. I think it was Grand Slam last night.
- 1:25Speaker 1: And then the Red Sox with their fourteen game winning streak.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Right now, I think there's gonna be some regression from
- 1:30Speaker 1: the Red Sox. But right now they're ten in my
- 1:31Speaker 1: Power rankings. And I'm sure this has changed a lot
- 1:34Speaker 1: and I look like a fool. But let's show it,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Krotzy what it looked like from my last power rankings.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I mean, that's what I want to see. Moved up,
- 1:44Speaker 2: not bad, moved up, White Sox. I mean, you're a Homer,
- 1:49Speaker 2: but I feel like you're not totally off on the
- 1:51Speaker 2: White Sox. The Guardians dropped out, that's my surprise. That
- 1:56Speaker 2: you don't have the Guardians somewhere up there, but you
- 1:58Speaker 2: have the White Sox and the Mariners stayed the same
- 2:04Speaker 2: for you. So I feel like that's pretty much where
- 2:06Speaker 2: the Mariners are. That's what the whole Al West is.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I listen. I feel like the mirrors are better
- 2:11Speaker 1: than what the record's man, and I feel pretty good
- 2:13Speaker 1: about that. Most of it stayed pretty close to the same.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Some teams moved up a little bit, some teams got hotter,
- 2:19Speaker 1: but I feel like they're they're all. It's pretty good.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So you know what, And I did this blind.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I do not.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I did not have my power rankers the last time.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I didn't even know we were going to show the
- 2:27Speaker 1: ones from last time. So I feel pretty happy that
- 2:30Speaker 1: I was that close. So now, Kratzy, it's your turn
- 2:33Speaker 1: to be on the hot seat.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm totally fine with that. As long as I'm
- 2:37Speaker 2: not going to get fired over getting this wrong, then
- 2:39Speaker 2: I'm totally fine because I'm gonna start with the Dodgers.
- 2:42Speaker 2: That's chalk. I feel like mine if you would look
- 2:46Speaker 2: at the records, I don't know if I don't have
- 2:48Speaker 2: the records pulled up, but I feel like it's probably
- 2:51Speaker 2: chalk on records here. I think, I go, so we're
- 2:54Speaker 2: we're straight even with Brewers, Braves, Phillies. Then I have
- 2:59Speaker 2: the Rays better than the Yankees. I think, you know,
- 3:02Speaker 2: a little hot stretch could change that. I have the
- 3:05Speaker 2: Cubs in White Sox switched. I think the NL Central
- 3:09Speaker 2: has some intriguing teams in the sense that I think
- 3:13Speaker 2: the Pirates are clearly doing well this year. For Pirates,
- 3:18Speaker 2: I think they're going to make the Cubs record look
- 3:22Speaker 2: a little bit worse because I think the NL Central,
- 3:25Speaker 2: besides the Reds, is a fun division to watch. I
- 3:29Speaker 2: think the Cardinals have been slipping, but that means where
- 3:32Speaker 2: the Cubs are at right now, they had to beat
- 3:34Speaker 2: some pretty decent teams in that Central. I think the
- 3:38Speaker 2: White Sox have the White Sox to me, they've just
- 3:43Speaker 2: been winning. I feel like they know how to win
- 3:46Speaker 2: because they're like, you know, they're like a college team.
- 3:49Speaker 2: They're out there just getting after it. Every single night,
- 3:53Speaker 2: somebody new does something and it's They're a fun fun
- 3:58Speaker 2: team to watch. It's no San Diego environment, but man,
- 4:01Speaker 2: I have I've never taken my family to rape Field,
- 4:05Speaker 2: and this team makes me want to go and watch
- 4:08Speaker 2: a game there, because it just seem like they're in
- 4:10Speaker 2: every game. I had the Guardians at nine and the
- 4:14Speaker 2: Mariners at ten, and I think the Mariners are going
- 4:17Speaker 2: to win that division. I think the Guardians are gonna
- 4:20Speaker 2: end up winning the division. But right now I think
- 4:22Speaker 2: the White Sox are ahead of them.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Okay, that's fair. I mean there's there's a couple of
- 4:27Speaker 1: things I would argue about there, the Guardians. The White
- 4:30Speaker 1: Socks are always better in the Cubs. I said it
- 4:31Speaker 1: was a Homer pick. Yeah, And let's look at your
- 4:34Speaker 1: board from June ninth, a little over a month ago.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Brewers moved up, Philly's moved up, Rays moved up, and
- 4:41Speaker 1: then it was it's very similar to mine. I mean,
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. Diamondbacks dropped out, Cardinals dropped out.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Kind of very similar. But yeah, I can't argue. I
- 4:51Speaker 1: can't make fun of it because you know what, this
- 4:52Speaker 1: also shows you. The first five or five to one
- 4:57Speaker 1: to seven teams are pretty much as we all have
- 4:59Speaker 1: kind of the same idea, and then you get to
- 5:01Speaker 1: like eight, nine, ten, and you're just like kind of
- 5:03Speaker 1: throwing darts at the dartboard. Who's hot this week? Oh wait,
- 5:07Speaker 1: The Red Sox are hot, Let's fire them in there
- 5:09Speaker 1: real quick. Oh, the Mariners are one game over. They
- 5:12Speaker 1: have all this potential boom. We'll throw a dart, will
- 5:14Speaker 1: hit them right.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Oh.
- 5:16Speaker 1: The Guardians, oh, poop, they hit seven homers, six off
- 5:19Speaker 1: Joe Ryan last night. Poop, they're hot. We'll fire one
- 5:21Speaker 1: at them. It's just it's a crapshoot. After about number
- 5:24Speaker 1: six for me.
- 5:26Speaker 2: If we can bring that board up again, please about
- 5:28Speaker 2: not my ranking board, but the how I did from
- 5:31Speaker 2: the last month. I remember being hesitant wanting to put
- 5:34Speaker 2: the Cardinals in that list, being hesitant wanting to put
- 5:38Speaker 2: the Diamondbacks in that June ninth board. I think now
- 5:44Speaker 2: I agree with what you said. If it was still
- 5:47Speaker 2: June ninth, I think now I think there's been some
- 5:49Speaker 2: separation in those six through nine teams. I feel like
- 5:54Speaker 2: there's a maybe even six through ten. There's a separation
- 5:58Speaker 2: in the sense of I think those those teams are
- 6:02Speaker 2: less interchangeable with everybody that I have outside of the list,
- 6:07Speaker 2: I think I forget exactly who I have. I know
- 6:10Speaker 2: I have the Guardians. You didn't have the Guardians. I'm
- 6:12Speaker 2: not sure who you had. It just felt like this time,
- 6:16Speaker 2: it was a lot easier to make the end of
- 6:19Speaker 2: my list. While I could shift some around, I could
- 6:22Speaker 2: put the White Sox above the Cubs and the Guardians
- 6:24Speaker 2: above the White Sox, like I can do that, But
- 6:26Speaker 2: I felt like other times it just felt like once
- 6:29Speaker 2: we got to number six, after we were done with
- 6:32Speaker 2: my quote unquote mandatory American League picks of the Rays
- 6:36Speaker 2: and the Yankees, it felt like it was very, very muddled.
- 6:40Speaker 2: And I think we're seeing a little bit clearer of
- 6:43Speaker 2: a picture than what we had on June ninth when
- 6:47Speaker 2: we did this.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Todd Father, are you hitting some games this summer? What's
- 6:53Speaker 3: the deal?
- 6:54Speaker 1: Of course?
- 6:55Speaker 4: And it's real simple, Scotty Braun. You know how it is.

- 7:47Speaker 5: the code automatically is added to your account so you
- 7:49Speaker 5: can use it later.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think we both have the same top six.
- 7:53Speaker 1: So I think, like I said, I think once you
- 7:54Speaker 1: get past six to seven, you know, the Cubs, you
- 7:58Speaker 1: can make an argument they're seven eight wherever you know,
- 8:00Speaker 1: wherever they are, they're probably better than the White Sox.
- 8:03Speaker 1: But again, a homeowner, I'm a homer, so I'm a
- 8:08Speaker 1: homeowner also multiple homeowner.
- 8:10Speaker 6: But you know, when you when you dig into it,
- 8:15Speaker 6: the first six are pretty easy to rank, and then
- 8:18Speaker 6: it just becomes a muddled mess.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And excuse me. Yeah, I don't know, I don't I
- 8:24Speaker 1: don't know. You know, teams can make moves, the Phillies,
- 8:28Speaker 1: the Braves. Some of these teams can make moves and
- 8:31Speaker 1: can move up and down. They could get hot. Some
- 8:33Speaker 1: teams could sell make some moves, they don't work out,
- 8:35Speaker 1: someone gets hurt. It's so it's so fluctuating, just depending
- 8:38Speaker 1: on and again, I do this for right now. I
- 8:40Speaker 1: don't do this from the end of the season. I
- 8:42Speaker 1: don't do this for months from now. It's just kind
- 8:45Speaker 1: of what I feel right now. And it's amazing that
- 8:48Speaker 1: we had the same top six. It really is kind
- 8:50Speaker 1: of amazing.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I think I think I picked the teams based on
- 8:54Speaker 2: what I think their their ability is. And I think
- 8:59Speaker 2: every team on that top six, except for possibly the Rays,
- 9:05Speaker 2: I don't really care what moves they make. I don't
- 9:07Speaker 2: care if the Phillies find the right handed outfield back
- 9:10Speaker 2: because I don't think it's gonna be Byron Buxton or
- 9:12Speaker 2: Mike Trout to make this massive, massive move for the team.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I don't care if the Yankees find another bullpen piece
- 9:21Speaker 2: because I don't think they're gonna get a closer. So
- 9:23Speaker 2: to me, I put those teams on there because I
- 9:25Speaker 2: think they're all really, really good. I think there's not
- 9:28Speaker 2: a lot of moves that make me say, oh yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 2: these guys are they're gonna go all in on. None
- 9:34Speaker 2: of those teams are gonna go get Scoobale. In my opinion,
- 9:37Speaker 2: I don't think the Brains are gonna get Scooble. I
- 9:39Speaker 2: think they may get like a Joe Ryan type of thing.
- 9:42Speaker 2: But I think it's a case of these are the
- 9:46Speaker 2: most solid teams no matter what their last week of
- 9:49Speaker 2: hot streak is. And that's probably why I kept the
- 9:52Speaker 2: Red Sox out because I'm not fully convinced, but I'm
- 9:56Speaker 2: willing to watch because of what they've done. Yeah, but
- 10:01Speaker 2: I think that's what's so amazing is if one team
- 10:03Speaker 2: does make the schoobl move, I mean the move, or
- 10:07Speaker 2: if the Braves, like you said, go get Joe Ryan,
- 10:09Speaker 2: that changes things.
- 10:10Speaker 1: You go sail Joe Ryan, elders Straya. You know, Lopez
- 10:14Speaker 1: been better since he's gone in the in the in
- 10:16Speaker 1: the starting rotation, but then you back it up at
- 10:18Speaker 1: the back end of their bullpen when Suarez comes back.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Iglesias Lee, do I mean that that bullpen? I think
- 10:25Speaker 1: that does change some things. Now, if if the Phillies
- 10:27Speaker 1: go get a Byron Buckston or Schoobol moves to one
- 10:30Speaker 1: of these teams, it definitely will change the rankings. I
- 10:33Speaker 1: would love for the Rays to go out and make
- 10:34Speaker 1: a big move, just just to see if the Yankees answer. Right,
- 10:38Speaker 1: the Rays go out and get a picture a great
- 10:40Speaker 1: pitcher or a huge bat, whoever that is, and then
- 10:43Speaker 1: we'll be fastening to see if they do it early enough,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and then the Yankees say, oh man, we really might
- 10:47Speaker 1: have to do something here because they're really going for it, or.
- 10:52Speaker 2: How much the judge injury doesn't heal between now and
- 10:55Speaker 2: the trade deadline and the you know, all those moves,
- 11:00Speaker 2: Like I can explain all those moves based on, you
- 11:02Speaker 2: know the fact that I put the Braves ahead of
- 11:04Speaker 2: the Phillies because the Phillies have given up the most
- 11:07Speaker 2: runs besides the Nationals outside of or after the seventh inning,
- 11:12Speaker 2: and the Braves are ridiculously good in the bullpen. And
- 11:16Speaker 2: what has won teams? What has what has helped teams
- 11:20Speaker 2: move on in the playoffs? Well, bullpen. The Phillies lost
- 11:24Speaker 2: because their bullpen gave it up last year in the
- 11:27Speaker 2: playoffs and so they lost to the eventual World champions.
- 11:30Speaker 2: They probably would have been a team, right in the
- 11:32Speaker 2: mix there because I felt like they were one of
- 11:33Speaker 2: the two best teams in the National League.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Fair, that's fair. I don't know. We'll see in another
- 11:42Speaker 1: six weeks, we'll do this. Maybe we'll do this after
- 11:43Speaker 1: the trade deadline in a couple of weeks and depending
- 11:46Speaker 1: on maybe, Yeah, what producer, lady, why didn't we wait?
- 11:51Speaker 1: Why didn't we just wait till after the trade?
- 11:52Speaker 2: No? No, no, no, no, no no, you just did?
- 11:55Speaker 1: I know, I know, it's fine. It came home in
- 11:57Speaker 1: a good mood. And then the first text I receive
- 11:59Speaker 1: after I get off the airplane this morning at seven
- 12:02Speaker 1: was can you put your power rankings out there? I
- 12:05Speaker 1: just I think she did it just to rub me
- 12:06Speaker 1: the wrong way. It's fine, We'll get revenge at some point.
- 12:09Speaker 2: On open. I love that. That nugget that you just
- 12:13Speaker 2: dropped in there was you got off the airplane at
- 12:15Speaker 2: seven in the morning this morning.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Here we go. I feel like I should be in
- 12:18Speaker 1: charge of Friar territories since I met the Pope, Marty,
- 12:20Speaker 1: because aren't the Friar Catholic priests? So maybe maybe I
- 12:24Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know, But anyways, Marty Caswell here
- 12:27Speaker 1: from Friar Territory offs. Didn't you used to work What
- 12:30Speaker 1: radio station did you used to work at?
- 12:32Speaker 2: Marty?
- 12:32Speaker 7: I used to work at the Mighty ten ninety, which
- 12:36Speaker 7: was started in two thousand and three.
- 12:38Speaker 8: And we used to be the flash of the Padres.
- 12:40Speaker 7: So yes, you're right. Aj you mentioned that I covered
- 12:43Speaker 7: you when you were a player. I would refer I
- 12:45Speaker 7: think people referred to it as stalking. I used to
- 12:47Speaker 7: stalk you as a reporter and a producer because my
- 12:51Speaker 7: job was to get on players, interesting players from the
- 12:54Speaker 7: opposing team, put them on our pregame show, put them on.
- 12:57Speaker 8: Our postgame show. So yes, Marty kass Well, professional stalker.
- 13:02Speaker 8: That was kind of my role.
- 13:03Speaker 1: So okay, I have to say this, and I mean
- 13:07Speaker 1: this with all the respect in the world. I never
- 13:09Speaker 1: knew what your name was. I just knew you were
- 13:11Speaker 1: the radio lady in San Diego. And I mean, and
- 13:14Speaker 1: then so when and then I'm and I'm going to
- 13:16Speaker 1: continue this. So the first time we had you on
- 13:18Speaker 1: there and they send a text to us, this is
- 13:20Speaker 1: kind of insider stuff. Hey, tomorrow the guests are This
- 13:23Speaker 1: was not this time, obviously, but Ken Rosenthal, Marty Caswell,
- 13:27Speaker 1: I'm like, who is Marty. I'm like, what is this?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Who is this dude that's coming on? I I honestly,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and then I then it. Then I googled you and
- 13:34Speaker 1: I was like, oh my gosh, that's the radio lady
- 13:37Speaker 1: from San Diego. I love her.
- 13:41Speaker 8: Wow that type.
- 13:42Speaker 7: See if I had known that, I would have bothered
- 13:44Speaker 7: you even more.
- 13:45Speaker 5: So.
- 13:45Speaker 7: I'm not sure Like when I when I would go
- 13:47Speaker 7: in and bother and you know, ask guys, hey, would
- 13:48Speaker 7: you come on our show? I wasn't sure if guys
- 13:51Speaker 7: were pretending to be on their phone or they.
- 13:53Speaker 8: Were genuinely on their phone. But no, usually it's it was.
- 13:56Speaker 8: It's pretty good. That was that was fun.
- 13:57Speaker 7: So yeah, Mandy ten ninety, I got my start in
- 14:00Speaker 7: sports radio as a producer. We used to have a guys,
- 14:03Speaker 7: when Peco Park first opened, right, you had all the
- 14:05Speaker 7: excitement of a brand new ballpark in these padres. We
- 14:08Speaker 7: had a three hour pregame show. A three hour pregame
- 14:12Speaker 7: show on the padres from teams that weren't three hours
- 14:17Speaker 7: for teams that were great. So now you understand why
- 14:19Speaker 7: half those times I'm going in the visiting clubhouse to
- 14:22Speaker 7: demand a J.
- 14:23Speaker 8: Prasinski come on our show.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Three, that's a lot. I don't know how y'all did it.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Y'all did it.
- 14:30Speaker 1: And by the way, ten ninety was a big Jim
- 14:33Speaker 1: Rome right there, weren't they big gym Rome? Yeah, So
- 14:36Speaker 1: I got asked to go on the Jim Rome Show.
- 14:38Speaker 1: And I love Jim Rome. I did a lot of
- 14:39Speaker 1: stuff with Jim Rome back when he was on ESPN
- 14:41Speaker 1: and doing his whole radio show.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Some kind of exciting.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm excited because I did a lot with him,
- 14:47Speaker 1: So I didn't even Honestly, I shouldn't maybe say this,
- 14:50Speaker 1: but I didn't know he was still doing stuff because
- 14:53Speaker 1: I haven't heard. And then I got it asked to
- 14:54Speaker 1: do his show. So I'm like, heck, yeah, Glory Days, Marty, Yeah,
- 14:58Speaker 1: Glory Days, thank you.
- 15:00Speaker 8: That big Glory Days of sports radio. Yes, was all
- 15:04Speaker 8: live in local.
- 15:05Speaker 7: He had a huge signal that blasts, you know, like
- 15:08Speaker 7: I mean, huge signal. So that's that's where I got
- 15:10Speaker 7: my start in sports radio. And look at me now, man,
- 15:13Speaker 7: as our as our media world evolves.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Hi, Eric, I'm glad. Yeah, you never asked me because
- 15:21Speaker 2: I only came into San Diego one time in my
- 15:23Speaker 2: friend and that's fine and right now, I don't think
- 15:26Speaker 2: anybody wants to come into San Diego unless you're the
- 15:28Speaker 2: opposing team and play San Diego.
- 15:32Speaker 8: Wow.
- 15:33Speaker 7: Well, as of late, yeah, you're right, I mean and
- 15:35Speaker 7: the and the couple of the previous homestands, I mean,
- 15:38Speaker 7: Peco Park has always been a place where the other
- 15:40Speaker 7: teams didn't want to go because I mean that the
- 15:43Speaker 7: Padres were they're a better team at home, right, and
- 15:45Speaker 7: the crowd was into it. But lately we saw when
- 15:47Speaker 7: the Dodgers came in town, when the Cubs came in town.
- 15:50Speaker 7: As the Padres have struggled, there's been a bit, a
- 15:52Speaker 7: bit more of a fan takeover. We'll see what happens
- 15:55Speaker 7: when the Padres were turned or turned from this dismal
- 15:58Speaker 7: road trip, the last home stand before the trade deadline,
- 16:01Speaker 7: when they play the Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants,
- 16:05Speaker 7: We'll see, We'll see.
- 16:06Speaker 8: Fellas.

- 17:08Speaker 1: Well here let's get into it, Marty. Are they gonna pay?
- 17:10Speaker 1: Are they gonna be Are they gonna be buyers or sellers?
- 17:13Speaker 8: I don't think they.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Preller doesn't want to be a seller. No, there's one
- 17:18Speaker 1: thing we know about aj Preller. He wants to keep
- 17:22Speaker 1: getting trying and trying it. He'll never give up. Right,
- 17:25Speaker 1: So if it came down to him having to sell,
- 17:28Speaker 1: it would just I feel like you would eat him alive.
- 17:30Speaker 7: It's not in his dna, AJ. I mean, he has
- 17:33Speaker 7: not really sold at the deadline since twenty nineteen.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Now.
- 17:36Speaker 7: When AJ Proler last spoke to the media, which is
- 17:39Speaker 7: at the end of the draft, you know, and he
- 17:42Speaker 7: was asked about that, he said, listen.
- 17:43Speaker 8: We could go either direction.
- 17:46Speaker 7: And you don't usually hear that from AJ Preller, right,
- 17:49Speaker 7: But with how poorly they have performed and how bad,
- 17:53Speaker 7: how disappointing that last homestand was this was a huge
- 17:56Speaker 7: road trip for them, playing one of the worst teams
- 17:58Speaker 7: in baseball, and you know, the Kansas City Royals. They
- 18:00Speaker 7: dropped that series, and they scored nineteen runs on Sunday
- 18:04Speaker 7: to avoid a sweep, and they come out flat yesterday
- 18:06Speaker 7: against the Atlanta Braves.
- 18:07Speaker 8: So this is a huge roadship.
- 18:09Speaker 7: If they can't figure something out, I think, I mean,
- 18:12Speaker 7: he has some attractive trade chips.
- 18:13Speaker 8: I know, we'll talk about Mason Miller.
- 18:15Speaker 7: There are other guys who could follow in that possibility
- 18:18Speaker 7: as well, guys like Adrian morrohone who would fit, who
- 18:21Speaker 7: would be a great addition.
- 18:21Speaker 8: To anyone's bullpen.
- 18:23Speaker 7: Ty Franz, who has been on fire recently, perhaps even
- 18:26Speaker 7: Michael King, who can opt out after this year. If
- 18:29Speaker 7: the Padres become sellers, they do have some very attractive
- 18:32Speaker 7: trade ships. But here's the problem, guys, they have so
- 18:35Speaker 7: many holes to fill right now. Romo, they lost Ramon Loreano,
- 18:39Speaker 7: they're left Fielder're out for the remainder.
- 18:40Speaker 8: Of this season.
- 18:42Speaker 7: Nick Pavetta and Joe Musgrove, both of those guys are
- 18:44Speaker 7: throwing to hitters right now in Arizona.
- 18:47Speaker 8: In their spring training facility.
- 18:49Speaker 7: They could come back, but outside of Michael King, right now,
- 18:52Speaker 7: they don't really have reliable starting pitching. They have so
- 18:56Speaker 7: many holes. But what they have going against them? And
- 18:59Speaker 7: I mentioned this for with you know, darn Darren Smith
- 19:01Speaker 7: and I talked about this on Friar Territory. What is
- 19:03Speaker 7: the window of opportunity for this Padres team. Manny Machado
- 19:07Speaker 7: turned thirty four years old in July. Xana Bogart is
- 19:10Speaker 7: turning thirty four years old in October. Their best years
- 19:14Speaker 7: are behind them. If you're the San Diego Padres and
- 19:17Speaker 7: you're thinking, what's my window of winning with these aging superstars,
- 19:22Speaker 7: this kind of might be it. So maybe if you're
- 19:24Speaker 7: the Padres, You're hoping you can get something you can hope.
- 19:28Speaker 7: You're hoping you get Paveda or Muskrove back. You're hoping
- 19:30Speaker 7: your offense can do something they haven't done really all season,
- 19:33Speaker 7: maybe not since April.
- 19:35Speaker 8: Go on a run, and then.
- 19:37Speaker 7: Perhaps you can shorten the game because you do have
- 19:40Speaker 7: when guys return healthy in that bullpen, one of the
- 19:43Speaker 7: best bullpens in baseball now. Mason Miller is elite nationally,
- 19:48Speaker 7: you know, pitcher of the month for what for two
- 19:50Speaker 7: months he has pitched twelve times. The best player in
- 19:53Speaker 7: the Padres so lone All Star, has pitched twelve times
- 19:56Speaker 7: since June first, and that is a problem for the Padres.
- 20:00Speaker 7: They can't get him the ball. Jason Adam is on
- 20:02Speaker 7: the injured list right and he's not going to be
- 20:04Speaker 7: back until later in August. Estrada also on the Jeremiah
- 20:07Speaker 7: Strada also on the injured list.
- 20:09Speaker 8: He could return maybe on this next.
- 20:10Speaker 7: Homestand if they can hang in there and do just
- 20:14Speaker 7: enough and gain some ground on the five teams are
- 20:17Speaker 7: trilling in the wild card, maybe maybe they can figure
- 20:21Speaker 7: it out in time to make a run and run
- 20:24Speaker 7: in August.
- 20:25Speaker 2: We'll see Hi, Marty. I mean you are definitely southern
- 20:30Speaker 2: southern California sunshine. As far as you're trying to paint
- 20:34Speaker 2: this picture, I feel like you painted. You could have
- 20:37Speaker 2: said all those exact same things and said, yeah, this
- 20:39Speaker 2: is why they're selling. But I'm running back to the
- 20:41Speaker 2: very first thing you said, and it's the window. What
- 20:46Speaker 2: do the moves look like? Let's say this. You know,
- 20:49Speaker 2: right before the break here, this last two weeks, the
- 20:51Speaker 2: Padres just kind of they're just malaised, and the Diamondbacks
- 20:55Speaker 2: continue to go ahead of them, and the Dodgers are
- 20:58Speaker 2: not able to be caught. What does taking advantage of
- 21:02Speaker 2: this window look like? As far as moves at this
- 21:05Speaker 2: trade deadline? Is it because because many Machado, I don't
- 21:09Speaker 2: think he's gonna have as bad a year next year
- 21:11Speaker 2: just because I thinks I'm a player, all that stuff
- 21:14Speaker 2: they're getting a year older? Is that window two years?
- 21:17Speaker 2: And what moves does that look like? Mason Miller spun
- 21:20Speaker 2: for two big leaguers that are going to come in
- 21:23Speaker 2: and fill all these many holes that you're talking about
- 21:25Speaker 2: that needed to be filled.
- 21:28Speaker 7: We don't know what the window looks like, but I
- 21:29Speaker 7: just think the window with Mandy and Bogart's like, I
- 21:32Speaker 7: think this is the last best chance. And guys, one
- 21:35Speaker 7: thing that we haven't talked about yet is the Padres ownership.
- 21:38Speaker 7: We know that this team was sold for a record,
- 21:40Speaker 7: you know, three point nine billion dollars a couple months ago.
- 21:43Speaker 7: I'm sorry, they have not been officially sold. They were
- 21:46Speaker 7: vetted by Major League Baseball. The other owners have not
- 21:49Speaker 7: yet voted on this sale. There was so much conversation
- 21:53Speaker 7: from people in this industry about AJ Preller, about other
- 21:57Speaker 7: executives thinking that AJ Preller was going to have money
- 21:59Speaker 7: to spend the deadline because of the new ownership group.
- 22:02Speaker 7: Except now we know from what rod manfreds and at
- 22:04Speaker 7: the All Star at the All Star Break, this sale
- 22:07Speaker 7: is not going to be official or approved until after
- 22:10Speaker 7: the trade deadline. So the idea that this new ownership
- 22:13Speaker 7: was going to go ahead and come in and spend
- 22:15Speaker 7: some money, that's not gonna happen now because they're not
- 22:18Speaker 7: going to be in place until after the deadline has passed.
- 22:21Speaker 8: So I don't know what.
- 22:23Speaker 7: To expect from them when they get here. It might
- 22:25Speaker 7: be a little bit, it's gonna be it's gonna be
- 22:26Speaker 7: too little, too late. John Seidler, the Padres current chairman,
- 22:31Speaker 7: says that he will do what's in the best of
- 22:33Speaker 7: the best interests of the Padres at this point. What's
- 22:35Speaker 7: the best interest of the Padres And the one thing
- 22:38Speaker 7: that I get to if you Aj Prazinski and you
- 22:42Speaker 7: Eric Kratz, you guys invested in this Padres team that's
- 22:46Speaker 7: been the playoffs and back to back seasons, that the
- 22:49Speaker 7: second highest attendance in all of baseball last season behind
- 22:52Speaker 7: the Los Angeles Dodgers. You came in thinking this team
- 22:55Speaker 7: was going to be a playoff team, that you had
- 22:57Speaker 7: excitement from Padres fans.
- 22:59Speaker 8: You're gonna draw three million plus again, you have a.
- 23:01Speaker 7: Season ticket, you have a season ticket waiting list for
- 23:03Speaker 7: four street years.
- 23:05Speaker 8: But wait a second.
- 23:06Speaker 7: The first move you're gonna make is go ahead and
- 23:08Speaker 7: trade Mason Miller. The first move you're going to go
- 23:11Speaker 7: ahead and make me is tear this thing down and
- 23:13Speaker 7: perhaps start a real build process. Oh and then, by
- 23:16Speaker 7: the way, and then there's a possible lockout. There are
- 23:18Speaker 7: so many different factors I think that are hovering over
- 23:21Speaker 7: this franchise that it's almost impossible to understand what they
- 23:26Speaker 7: should do versus what they're going to do.
- 23:29Speaker 2: But the one common threat, and you deviated me from
- 23:33Speaker 2: my actual question is aj Preller. No, I love it
- 23:37Speaker 2: because is aj Preller? Could this be the most could
- 23:41Speaker 2: this be the most rogue aj Pereller We've ever seen?
- 23:44Speaker 2: Just because he knows it's window? Yeah, he knows. I
- 23:48Speaker 2: mean I was. I was in spring training the year
- 23:50Speaker 2: when he traded away Kimberl and he picked up bj
- 23:54Speaker 2: Upton or Melvin whoever it was at that time, and
- 23:56Speaker 2: we got yeah, we got Kemper Like there was a
- 23:59Speaker 2: lot of he's not afraid of making moves because the
- 24:03Speaker 2: ownership situation isn't totally done. Could he just continue to say,
- 24:08Speaker 2: you know what, this might be my last time to
- 24:10Speaker 2: really ride a wild horse and continue.
- 24:14Speaker 8: To push Yes.
- 24:16Speaker 7: And you brought up a good point, Eric, because one
- 24:18Speaker 7: thing that was the biggest topic amongst us in spring
- 24:23Speaker 7: training was a status of aj Preller's contract because he
- 24:27Speaker 7: was going into the season as a lamed up general manager. Now,
- 24:31Speaker 7: he did, towards the end of spring training signed a
- 24:34Speaker 7: deal with.
- 24:34Speaker 8: The Padres, but we don't know what that deal is.
- 24:37Speaker 7: The Padres wouldn't announce the specifics of how many years
- 24:40Speaker 7: for AJ Preller aj Preller wanted to keep that private.
- 24:44Speaker 7: Additional reporting seems to indicate that it's at most a
- 24:48Speaker 7: two year deal. Are there any guarantees that aj Preller
- 24:52Speaker 7: is going to be the general manager, the president of
- 24:54Speaker 7: baseball operations under this new management group.
- 24:57Speaker 8: We don't know.
- 24:58Speaker 7: There's a ton of questions around aj Pler's future. If
- 25:01Speaker 7: the Padres continue to stumble, if they make if they
- 25:05Speaker 7: miss the playoffs. There is no guarantee anywhere that this
- 25:09Speaker 7: new ownership group Kwanza, Jones, Jose Joseliciano that we know
- 25:14Speaker 7: nothing about. We have no indication that aj Preller is
- 25:17Speaker 7: going to be their guy.
- 25:19Speaker 8: Maybe they want their own guy, their own man.
- 25:22Speaker 7: So again to answer your question, Eric, yes, aj Pler
- 25:26Speaker 7: could go rogue.
- 25:27Speaker 8: He could absolutely Why not? What does he have to
- 25:29Speaker 8: lose at this point?
- 25:32Speaker 5: If you're watching us, you already know we're wearing mack
- 25:34Speaker 5: Weldon right now as we talk about a great brand
- 25:37Speaker 5: that makes things so comfortable and easy to wear. But
- 25:40Speaker 5: if you're listening to the show, let me tell you
- 25:42Speaker 5: a little bit more about mack Weldon with my friend
- 25:44Speaker 5: Eric Kratz.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's comfortable, it's light, it's summertime right now. For me, though,
- 25:51Speaker 2: they cater to what I need tall clothes. Normally, when
- 25:55Speaker 2: I buy tall clothes it's like something that's cumbersome and boxy.
- 26:00Speaker 2: It still fits incredibly well, super light, perfect for the summertime.
- 26:05Speaker 2: They got me all covered.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Comfortable, performance material can be yours. Mack Weldon is the spot.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Don't sweat the heat this summer. Feel as effortlessly cool
- 26:17Speaker 5: as you look. With Mack Weldon. Go to Mackweldon dot
- 26:20Speaker 5: com and get twenty percent off your first order of
- 26:21Speaker 5: one hundred and twenty five bucks or more with promo
- 26:23Speaker 5: code foul. That's m A c k W E L
- 26:25Speaker 5: d O N dot com code fo u L.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I want to see it. I want to see him
- 26:30Speaker 2: start trading away like coaches and stuff, because he's like,
- 26:33Speaker 2: we got no prospects in the minor leagues. I want
- 26:35Speaker 2: to see him away just you can just do something crazy.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Nothing against nothing against any of the coaches that they
- 26:42Speaker 2: have there, but just him going rogue. That's all I
- 26:46Speaker 2: want to see. But I want to ask you something
- 26:47Speaker 2: you said, because I don't watch as much Padres as
- 26:50Speaker 2: you do, but you said this on your show that yes,
- 26:53Speaker 2: they're losing and that's discouraging. But the manner in which
- 26:56Speaker 2: they're losing is discouraging. What do you mean by that?
- 27:00Speaker 7: They're just they're not playing competitive baseball. They're they're not
- 27:03Speaker 7: fundamentally sound. They make so many they make so many
- 27:06Speaker 7: mistakes on the basis right they don't have prolonged at bats.
- 27:09Speaker 8: I mean it feels like.
- 27:10Speaker 7: Yesterday, the way they won the game yesterday, it's like
- 27:13Speaker 7: it's like hit a home run or that's it.
- 27:14Speaker 8: They don't play small ball anymore.
- 27:16Speaker 7: And as much as Wet, as much as Mike schult
- 27:19Speaker 7: was criticized last season, you know, for his like the
- 27:22Speaker 7: power of friendship and playing small ball and bunting, I
- 27:25Speaker 7: think it's something that Padreas.
- 27:26Speaker 8: Have really gotten away from.
- 27:28Speaker 7: Right now, when they have guys that aren't slugging, I
- 27:30Speaker 7: think it's turning down.
- 27:31Speaker 8: They don't have sustained rallies.
- 27:32Speaker 7: I mean, you can look at that blowing again to
- 27:34Speaker 7: Kansas City Royals as one thing, nineteen runs. But this
- 27:37Speaker 7: is a team man that that their situational hitting is
- 27:41Speaker 7: is poor.
- 27:43Speaker 8: That's That's what I'm talking about.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Okay, that's not fair, that's not a fair criticism, Marty.
- 27:49Speaker 1: It's really hard to hit in the.
- 27:50Speaker 7: Big league so just no, I know, I understand, but
- 27:52Speaker 7: just just it is, but just the little things, and
- 27:56Speaker 7: I don't know, there's there's so many questions.
- 27:58Speaker 8: I'd ask you this, guys.
- 28:00Speaker 7: If you are a player on that team and your
- 28:03Speaker 7: older player and you're thinking, is this is your last
- 28:05Speaker 7: best chance?
- 28:06Speaker 1: Right?
- 28:06Speaker 7: So maybe you're you live in reality. Are you at
- 28:10Speaker 7: all surprised at a j Preller, who's gone through tons
- 28:13Speaker 7: of hitting coaches and managers for this season, went with
- 28:16Speaker 7: a first time manager, a rookie manager, and a rooking
- 28:19Speaker 7: hitting coach.
- 28:21Speaker 1: No, Am, I surprised.
- 28:23Speaker 7: Yeah, you're surprised by it. And then are you surprised
- 28:26Speaker 7: by some of the results that we're.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Seeing because they're friends of Preller and there That's why
- 28:30Speaker 1: if they were if it would have been someone from
- 28:32Speaker 1: outside the organization, I would have been more surprised. Well,
- 28:38Speaker 1: who knows, we ain't got enough time to get into
- 28:40Speaker 1: that one.
- 28:41Speaker 8: No, I know, I know, I know, I know, I just.
- 28:43Speaker 1: But no, I'm not. I'm not surprised because he's had
- 28:47Speaker 1: Bob Melvin, he's had Mike Shilt, right, he's had veteran managers,
- 28:50Speaker 1: and he's like, you know what, I'll try a buddy
- 28:51Speaker 1: of mine Craig Salmon, who's been in the organization. I
- 28:55Speaker 1: don't know that you can blame Craig Salmon because I
- 28:57Speaker 1: can't hit really and they seem to constantly have injuries.
- 29:01Speaker 1: But am I surprised to answer your question? Unlike you, Marty,
- 29:05Speaker 1: I want dodge a question. No, I am not. I
- 29:07Speaker 1: am not surprised at all.
- 29:08Speaker 8: Wait, wait, dodge a question. I'm sorry. Go ahead, go ahead,
- 29:11Speaker 8: re ask your question.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I will answer it with this question, not mine.
- 29:15Speaker 8: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I just I get that. But by the way, before
- 29:19Speaker 1: we let you go, I have to I have to
- 29:21Speaker 1: ask you a question, Marty. Who's your favorite Padre to
- 29:24Speaker 1: interview right now? Yeah?
- 29:28Speaker 7: Okay, Well, Manny Machado is fascinating because when he has
- 29:32Speaker 7: something to say, I mean, he's not afraid immense words.
- 29:35Speaker 7: I love interviewing Mason Miller. He's so he is so thoughtful.
- 29:39Speaker 7: Jackson Merrill is fiery, but Manny Machado is is awesome.
- 29:44Speaker 7: I love talking to him.
- 29:45Speaker 1: We have a really hard time getting Padres players on here.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Mason millers on every once in a while. It's great,
- 29:52Speaker 1: but it's really hard to get to Padres players. So
- 29:55Speaker 1: maybe as a former as my former stalker. Yeah, go
- 30:00Speaker 1: out there when you're next time you're at Peco and ask, Okay, hey, guys,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I work for foul Territory. They're really not that bad,
- 30:07Speaker 1: can you Can we get some love for foul Territory
- 30:10Speaker 1: and don't we don't want to steal them from Friar. No,
- 30:12Speaker 1: your guys, you get your guests. But every once in
- 30:14Speaker 1: a while, would be nice to talk a little padre baseball.
- 30:17Speaker 7: I would recommend some Madde Taylor for you, but he
- 30:20Speaker 7: is on the injured list with an oblied He has
- 30:22Speaker 7: an oblique injury, so he could be gone for a while.
- 30:25Speaker 7: If but AJ give me your top three guys you
- 30:27Speaker 7: want to talk to and we'll go ahead and put
- 30:29Speaker 7: it out there. By the way, I would like take
- 30:31Speaker 7: this opportunity to recommend that fans go to foul Territory
- 30:33Speaker 7: shop because there was a fantastic Mason Miller All Star
- 30:37Speaker 7: Game T shirt. You want to make sure you grab
- 30:39Speaker 7: that just in case, Just in case Adrian celer goes
- 30:44Speaker 7: rogue and that becomes a fancy collector's item.
- 30:48Speaker 1: See top three. Manny would be one. I'm sure many
- 30:52Speaker 1: would definitely be one. Yeah, Joe, Well, we had Joe
- 30:57Speaker 1: on didn't Joe.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Never talked to Jackson Merrill. And I think, and I
- 31:06Speaker 2: think Xander. I I love Xander as a teammate. Okay,
- 31:09Speaker 2: so I think he would be he would be awesome.
- 31:11Speaker 2: But it's like the it's like the Holy Grail, like
- 31:14Speaker 2: we have to like figure out like the code. It's
- 31:17Speaker 2: like Indiana Jones to try to get to try to
- 31:20Speaker 2: get a Padres player. There, I hear they're really focusing
- 31:23Speaker 2: on playing.
- 31:25Speaker 8: Oh, they're focusing on playing. Then go with my I
- 31:27Speaker 8: would go with Joe Musgrove.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Must Groves great, and he's awesome.
- 31:32Speaker 8: He's great.
- 31:32Speaker 7: And also I know he didn't want you for a while,
- 31:34Speaker 7: but now that he is inching closer, we think, right
- 31:39Speaker 7: just threw in Arizona along with Pavetta, that maybe he'll
- 31:41Speaker 7: be more receptive to coming on because he he told
- 31:43Speaker 7: me on all this conversation one hundred percent he's going
- 31:47Speaker 7: to pitch this season, and I think last year he
- 31:49Speaker 7: kind of got tired of saying that, hoping that building
- 31:52Speaker 7: up like a false expectation that he could return for
- 31:55Speaker 7: the playoffs, even though he knew that wasn't reality. Let's
- 31:58Speaker 7: go with Musgrove, Musgrove Manny Meryl, I would put sheets,
- 32:02Speaker 7: holy sheets, I'd put him on that.
- 32:03Speaker 1: One I love. I can text him and get him.
- 32:06Speaker 8: Get Gavin sheets.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Also, I really like to talk to and no one's
- 32:09Speaker 1: heard fro him in a long time. Who you Darvish?
- 32:14Speaker 8: Oh?
- 32:15Speaker 2: Are you still? I mean no?
- 32:20Speaker 8: But he's in Japan right now. He was posting pictures.
- 32:22Speaker 7: I think he was somewhere in Hokkaido, So I think
- 32:24Speaker 7: he's he's like going around his stomping grounds in Japan.
- 32:27Speaker 7: Maybe if you're you Darvish, maybe he can find him
- 32:30Speaker 7: the next young Japanese superstar? Can we get a Sasaki?
- 32:33Speaker 7: Can we get him more of a Kami? The padres
- 32:36Speaker 7: need a young a Japanese superstar.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Let's go awesome.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Do we have a Japanese scout coming on next? He's
- 32:42Speaker 2: probably listening to us, so we're gonna we're gonna find
- 32:45Speaker 2: out who that next star is.
- 32:47Speaker 8: Okay, fantastic? Did I dodge your questions?
- 32:51Speaker 1: Guys?
- 32:51Speaker 8: Are we good?
- 32:51Speaker 5: No?
- 32:52Speaker 1: You're perfect. We tried to dodgers, but we tried to dodgers,
- 32:55Speaker 1: but we couldn't because then you do a foul territory
- 32:58Speaker 1: shop dot com fire out there shout out Sarah Tepper
