- 0:05Speaker 2: Welcome in to the Irish Theaters podcast as we look
- 0:09Speaker 2: back on the memorable week night for the Pittsburgh Steeters
- 0:12Speaker 2: and look ahead so coming into the second half of
- 0:14Speaker 2: the season. As we rolled on the stretch Michael created
- 0:16Speaker 2: Jimmy English Stephen McKee. Feels like we did this lifetime, boys,
- 0:20Speaker 2: but always good to talk after a big w Jimmy.
- 0:24Speaker 2: First of all, for people listening to the podcast, you
- 0:26Speaker 2: got your Steeters gear on. You look very happy this
- 0:28Speaker 2: seasoning man.
- 0:30Speaker 3: But do you know what, Michael. I woke up on
- 0:31Speaker 3: Friday morning and part of me said, no, stay off
- 0:35Speaker 3: social media, keep this the score suspense. But I couldn't resist,
- 0:40Speaker 3: and I was a very happy man when I saw
- 0:41Speaker 3: that the Staters had overcome the Titans at home, raging
- 0:45Speaker 3: that I missed out last week. I always loved chatting
- 0:47Speaker 3: Steeters football with you guys, but glad to be back
- 0:51Speaker 3: back in the fold once again for yet, like you said,
- 0:53Speaker 3: it feels like a lifetime now. I don't know one episode, this,
- 0:56Speaker 3: this is, this is at this stage, but it's always
- 0:58Speaker 3: good fun.
- 1:00Speaker 2: They have always good to see you. I know your
- 1:02Speaker 2: WiFi is Pachi, so we'll see if we keep you
- 1:04Speaker 2: for the whole episode and we'll all be the win
- 1:06Speaker 2: the zagon. But you're doing good getting closer to this
- 1:08Speaker 2: watch part of getting closer to EG home, sir.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Just some kind of down to days at this point,
- 1:14Speaker 4: I swore to got up. I haven't been home since
- 1:16Speaker 4: he's like last Christmas, to be honest, probably not that
- 1:19Speaker 4: long ago.
- 1:19Speaker 1: But yeah, it was.
- 1:21Speaker 4: It was a good win on on Sunday or sorry
- 1:23Speaker 4: Sunday night, so they don't even know what that isn't.
- 1:25Speaker 1: On Thursday night.
- 1:26Speaker 4: And then yeah, as Jimmy said, you know, we missed
- 1:29Speaker 4: them last week. You know, we missed the hearing as
- 1:32Speaker 4: you know, is a thoughtful of opinions on on Kenny
- 1:36Speaker 4: Peckett and Nextcater. But yeah, you know what, it's just
- 1:38Speaker 4: good to have another week down the drain and we
- 1:40Speaker 4: got to win. So yeah, bring on this week, and
- 1:43Speaker 4: we're glad to be talking Staiers Football League guys.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Let's go here we go, Here we go, Here we
- 1:47Speaker 2: go boys Steelers. Obviously having that win against the Tennessee
- 1:52Speaker 2: Titans on Thursdayight Football, and it was funny because we
- 1:55Speaker 2: were sort of going in the last week thinking, well,
- 1:57Speaker 2: the Titans, the reagun to come in March them with
- 1:59Speaker 2: their new young, new young toy on the offense with
- 2:03Speaker 2: will lavis Well Steeers moved the final flee five and
- 2:05Speaker 2: three of the season, twenty of the sixteen, winning first
- 2:07Speaker 2: of that football And and I guess, look, we will
- 2:10Speaker 2: start off with yourself, Jimmy, just a aggression of this
- 2:13Speaker 2: offense and what we've seen with Deandy Johnson. We talked
- 2:17Speaker 2: in the off season about how we really wanted to
- 2:19Speaker 2: see him take a set up the season ninety yards
- 2:22Speaker 2: on the night, a touchdown, really looking a lot more confident,
- 2:25Speaker 2: and I have to say, I think a lot of
- 2:27Speaker 2: us are just really really buzzn't really really supportive of
- 2:29Speaker 2: what he's done and just wishing the best over the
- 2:32Speaker 2: next week. Yeah, it's so so far, so good.
- 2:34Speaker 1: One.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Absolutely, it's great to see him, you know, come back
- 2:37Speaker 3: in after after you know, I got a hamstring injury
- 2:40Speaker 3: and contributing significantly on the offense. He caught his first
- 2:43Speaker 3: touchdown pass I believe in two seasons there on person night,
- 2:48Speaker 3: on a great route in the end zone from Kenny Picketts.
- 2:50Speaker 3: So he's added that extra dimension to the offense that
- 2:53Speaker 3: I think we've been we've been missing. You know, you
- 2:55Speaker 3: have two receivers at the categer that we have. One
- 2:58Speaker 3: of them is going to attract attention, which means the
- 3:01Speaker 3: other one is going to be opening up for to
- 3:02Speaker 3: have a big game. So great to see him back.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Great to see I mean, I've read somewhere that the
- 3:08Speaker 3: Steelers are finding ways to get it done. I mean,
- 3:11Speaker 3: we were at the start of the season. There's no
- 3:13Speaker 3: way we we thought they'd be sitting there second in
- 3:15Speaker 3: the AOC North and they they're, they're they're getting it done.
- 3:19Speaker 3: They're finding ways to win, they're finding ways to put
- 3:21Speaker 3: points on the board. Or two running backs at another
- 3:24Speaker 3: great game. Now you've got a touchdown. So look, it's
- 3:28Speaker 3: it's not pretty, it's it's but it's it's effective, it's
- 3:31Speaker 3: not flashy, but they're getting the job done. So if
- 3:34Speaker 3: this is the way they have to grind out the
- 3:36Speaker 3: rest of the season, then I'm going to have to
- 3:38Speaker 3: learn to love it.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Michael the first touched over Deonta idea of in six
- 3:43Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty five days. He lost caught the
- 3:45Speaker 2: ball from Big Ben in the end zone. Six hundred
- 3:49Speaker 2: and fifty five days. A long time one.
- 3:52Speaker 4: It's too long and just for someone on his quality
- 3:55Speaker 4: as well. You could tell just as soon as he
- 3:57Speaker 4: caught the ball and he found the end zone, he
- 3:59Speaker 4: was just hand in the area. Couldn't believe it. It's
- 4:01Speaker 4: not failing, you know, of how long is it since
- 4:05Speaker 4: I've last scored, and it's it's fantastic to see you
- 4:07Speaker 4: and finally get on the on the board. So obviously
- 4:11Speaker 4: you know it's one of those things where so as
- 4:14Speaker 4: first of the season, but hopefully it's not going to
- 4:15Speaker 4: be a lost either, So it's already and improvement from
- 4:18Speaker 4: last year, hopefully a singers cross. He can move on
- 4:20Speaker 4: ahead and then you know, we've got a good game
- 4:24Speaker 4: coming up this weekend and he has average chance can
- 4:26Speaker 4: improve in not statistics, So here's that and then yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 4: with buzzing for it wasn't.
- 4:32Speaker 2: For him and like hopefully the first of many going
- 4:35Speaker 2: into the season with a big postseason on the company's God,
- 4:38Speaker 2: we've seen cool hulcome. Linebacker Jimmy is going to be
- 4:41Speaker 2: out for the season knee injury. Expected to take a
- 4:43Speaker 2: full recovery, but that was the main I guess what
- 4:45Speaker 2: the negative from the game in sense of to lose
- 4:48Speaker 2: a guy of his ability, it's it's will definitely miss
- 4:50Speaker 2: him over to the few weeks.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent. Inside the linebacking corpse has been
- 4:54Speaker 3: much improved this season. He was a key part of that. Obviously,
- 4:57Speaker 3: he's ours. He was the defensive player caller as well,
- 5:00Speaker 3: which obviously a critical part to the run stop. And
- 5:04Speaker 3: you know, it was great to get Cam Heyward back
- 5:07Speaker 3: of course the heart and sort of that defense. And
- 5:09Speaker 3: you could immediately see the impact that he had when
- 5:11Speaker 3: he came into the game and stuffing stuffing up Derrick Henry.
- 5:15Speaker 3: But to lose a player of Holco's quality is disappointing
- 5:19Speaker 3: and the only other negative that I can think of
- 5:22Speaker 3: from the game really, and this is strange for me.
- 5:26Speaker 3: I try to be a positive person. I swear was
- 5:30Speaker 3: we should have had another touchdown, and obviously there was
- 5:33Speaker 3: that there was a catch in the end zone by
- 5:34Speaker 3: George Dickens where his trailing but was just just aut
- 5:38Speaker 3: a band. So that just shows a little bit of
- 5:40Speaker 3: the discipline, I think a little bit of sloppiness. I mean,
- 5:42Speaker 3: it's not college, she's not in Georgia anymore. You have to,
- 5:45Speaker 3: especially in those those kind of tight rope catches, you
- 5:48Speaker 3: have to be sure to half the second toe down.
- 5:50Speaker 3: So look, if I can if I can fall down
- 5:53Speaker 3: anything from the up front from the game, that would
- 5:55Speaker 3: be the thing, the thing that I would highlight.
- 5:58Speaker 2: We have to be constructive, we have to say the
- 6:00Speaker 2: good points at Bob points. I think one of the
- 6:02Speaker 2: right direction is obviously things he can prove on Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I mean it's it's a massive improvement week on week
- 6:08Speaker 3: for the offense. It doesn't get me wrong. Like I said,
- 6:10Speaker 3: they're finding ways to win, their finding way to put
- 6:12Speaker 3: points on the board. They're they're a legitimate playoff contender
- 6:16Speaker 3: at this stage in the season. So at the ceiling
- 6:19Speaker 3: is sky high. The defense is doing its job. Quit
- 6:22Speaker 3: Alexander the game selling pick at the end, which was
- 6:25Speaker 3: absolutely fantastic. So look at our defense is carrying us,
- 6:28Speaker 3: and it's just up to the offense sid to crank
- 6:30Speaker 3: it up more and more every week and hopefully get
- 6:33Speaker 3: to the to reach their potential, of the potential that
- 6:35Speaker 3: we all know that they that they have within them.
- 6:39Speaker 4: There was maybe another small negative I suppose you could
- 6:42Speaker 4: say as well with the penalties. There was a lot
- 6:45Speaker 4: of penalties. Flags are going everywhere, toy. Sorry, Joey Porter Jr.
- 6:50Speaker 4: You know in particular, I think he had three, maybe
- 6:53Speaker 4: potentially costing Holden call at the end of the game.
- 6:57Speaker 4: You know, Robert Jones had a couple of as well,
- 6:59Speaker 4: So there is just a bit of an experience creeping
- 7:01Speaker 4: in there as well. But I'll just say, you know,
- 7:03Speaker 4: you're living, you learn. Hopefully that's something that can build
- 7:05Speaker 4: on as well next week.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think like colored pedalies and like it's completely right,
- 7:10Speaker 2: it's but it's happened in across the league with so
- 7:12Speaker 2: many das. Even even the best teams, like seeing the
- 7:14Speaker 2: Eagles and Sunday and they might have penalties they give
- 7:16Speaker 2: away towards the end, they almost give away a game
- 7:18Speaker 2: against the Cowboys.
- 7:19Speaker 1: It was.
- 7:20Speaker 2: It was crazy to see. So I think that's something
- 7:22Speaker 2: where you just try and go forward each week during
- 7:25Speaker 2: the season and get better at that one. We're getting
- 7:26Speaker 2: into the business end of the season now, hopefully we
- 7:28Speaker 2: can sort of scratch that up and try and keep
- 7:30Speaker 2: going forward.
- 7:31Speaker 3: And let's hear before we hear from Mike Tom, we'll hear.
- 7:33Speaker 2: From deand Johnson getting his first touchdown is six, one
- 7:38Speaker 2: hundred and fifty five days, can you pick it? And
- 7:41Speaker 2: TJ what as well, that'll weight off your shoulder getting.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Let out of Oh yeah, you know, six said the
- 7:49Speaker 5: five days since that story, though, I'm happy out there,
- 7:53Speaker 5: you know, getting the end zone today, you know, I
- 7:56Speaker 5: see it on Twitter today. I'm like, it's really been
- 7:59Speaker 5: that alone. But you know what I'm saying, Like I said,
- 8:00Speaker 5: I'm happy that I got an end zone and looking
- 8:03Speaker 5: forward to gett an end zone next week.
- 8:05Speaker 1: What was that celebration one?
- 8:06Speaker 6: Like it almost looked like if it a relief more
- 8:08Speaker 6: than anything.
- 8:09Speaker 5: I actually I didn't know what I was gonna do
- 8:11Speaker 5: til You're honest, once I scored, But I was just
- 8:14Speaker 5: tryna get yes with my teammates, Kenny, whoever it was
- 8:17Speaker 5: that was coming up to me. I was just tryna,
- 8:19Speaker 5: you know, show love, you know, cause everybody put.
- 8:21Speaker 1: In a lot of work.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Six hundred plus days is a long time.
- 8:24Speaker 1: How did you grow.
- 8:25Speaker 3: As a person as a player through some of that adversity.
- 8:27Speaker 7: Uh?
- 8:27Speaker 5: It was tough, you know, just really how I just
- 8:30Speaker 5: carried myself each and every day, not tryna think about it.
- 8:33Speaker 5: But by the same time, it's like, Okay, I gotta
- 8:35Speaker 5: figure out ways. Uh if I gotta do something different
- 8:37Speaker 5: or say, you know what I'm saying, on certain routes
- 8:39Speaker 5: or whatever it was. But you know what I'm saying,
- 8:41Speaker 5: just being myself and not pressing each and there were
- 8:43Speaker 5: just letting the ball find me, just keep getting open
- 8:46Speaker 5: and that's what happened.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Did you notice any difference was Matt being on the
- 8:50Speaker 1: sideway calling the play zone? Uh?
- 8:53Speaker 5: You know, I was just tryna look for something different
- 8:55Speaker 5: and get a spark going on. Uh like say we
- 8:58Speaker 5: I'm I support him, So whatever they do, I'm I'm
- 9:01Speaker 5: with it regardless.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I tell you, what's just that touched out with
- 9:05Speaker 3: three games where you've had a a big impact. What's
- 9:08Speaker 3: key that impact that you've returned from injury?
- 9:11Speaker 5: Just my ability, you know, I'm just to draw attention
- 9:14Speaker 5: or having George and on the other side just allows
- 9:17Speaker 5: us to allows Kenny to know who he has out there,
- 9:21Speaker 5: makes him comfortable, you know what I'm saying, Cause he
- 9:23Speaker 5: knows who's gonna get open. And just by me being
- 9:27Speaker 5: able to rock, run and just do what I do
- 9:29Speaker 5: best and I showed that tonight.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Can tell you, guys have been in so many tight
- 9:36Speaker 6: games when it gets tight late, Because you've been in
- 9:38Speaker 6: these situations so much, do you feel like you have
- 9:40Speaker 6: an advantage. I don't know, uh it, games are hard
- 9:45Speaker 6: to win. I feel like a lot of teams are
- 9:47Speaker 6: in these situations a lot. It's just kind of getting
- 9:51Speaker 6: in the mode of trying to do your job, do
- 9:53Speaker 6: your best. We always say defense wants to be out
- 9:56Speaker 6: there when the games in the line, and uh, tonight
- 9:58Speaker 6: was no different.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Glad was able to deliver big play for us. It's
- 10:02Speaker 1: just a bit good to the just to get halftime.
- 10:04Speaker 4: What did you see out of the crew that I
- 10:05Speaker 4: used to get this kind of off there in the
- 10:08Speaker 4: second half.
- 10:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I mean I felt like he he
- 10:11Speaker 6: showed some toughness, that he took some hits. I was
- 10:13Speaker 6: able to deliver some good passes under pressure, and we're
- 10:16Speaker 6: able to just continue to kind of keep him under
- 10:19Speaker 6: duress and be able to have him throw that pick
- 10:23Speaker 6: at the end.
- 10:23Speaker 5: There was huge there needed to better communication in the
- 10:26Speaker 5: second half, and that was the adjustment you.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Guys talked about in the locker room.
- 10:30Speaker 1: What were those conversations, like you guys trying to.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Get back out that you know, I mean, have better communication.
- 10:36Speaker 6: It's it's that simple. We just need to talk more,
- 10:38Speaker 6: especially when a guy like men goes down. Obviously, a
- 10:40Speaker 6: guy that does a lot of talking. Anytime a guy
- 10:43Speaker 6: like Cole goes down a guy that does a lot
- 10:45Speaker 6: of the talking in the middle, we need to emphasize communication,
- 10:49Speaker 6: especially when we're playing at home and the fans are
- 10:50Speaker 6: going crazy. It makes it a little bit more difficult.
- 10:53Speaker 6: But I feel like we did a better job in
- 10:55Speaker 6: the second half for sure.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Guys still he did against how to read and how
- 10:58Speaker 1: partical was that?
- 11:00Speaker 6: I felt like we're we We did pretty well against
- 11:02Speaker 6: the run. I haven't looked at anything but just continuing
- 11:06Speaker 6: to blow up in situations and make them one dimensional.
- 11:08Speaker 6: I feel like we did a good job of that tonight.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Diane have a sideline. What did you see and how
- 11:15Speaker 1: did that play unfold?
- 11:16Speaker 7: Was that a call from the huddle or did that
- 11:19Speaker 7: take No, that was a call from the huddle.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Head man had tey on a go one on one.
- 11:23Speaker 7: I want to give an opportunity, a big third down
- 11:25Speaker 7: for us to get down there in the red zone
- 11:27Speaker 7: and eventually, you know, score. So it was a good,
- 11:29Speaker 7: good play for.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Us, Like having Mad on the sidelines.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That it was good.
- 11:34Speaker 7: I think, you know, we communicate really well with the headset.
- 11:36Speaker 7: No one else really gets a chance to do that
- 11:38Speaker 7: with him, so I think, you know, him being able
- 11:40Speaker 7: to go over to each position group and kind of
- 11:43Speaker 7: get in the same page with them and let him
- 11:45Speaker 7: know what we're thinking going into each drive.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I think it definitely was a positive. I'm about did
- 11:49Speaker 1: you request that or No, I didn't.
- 11:51Speaker 7: I was just you know, came to work and I
- 11:53Speaker 7: was told.
- 11:53Speaker 1: That effects on your play from the injury.
- 11:59Speaker 7: No, you know, I felt felt good. Shout out to
- 12:02Speaker 7: our our trainers Gabe and gave leading the way, helped
- 12:05Speaker 7: me get ready to go, and Sonya and you know,
- 12:08Speaker 7: you know short week did a great job and helped
- 12:09Speaker 7: me get ready and I felt good.
- 12:12Speaker 3: In mind this play this week from last week that
- 12:14Speaker 3: all have.
- 12:14Speaker 1: To I haven't seen it. I can't.
- 12:18Speaker 7: I can't answer that question. I know they did a
- 12:20Speaker 7: great job protecting run game back, sitting the hole really
- 12:24Speaker 7: hard and you know, running downhill and getting north south,
- 12:27Speaker 7: which was great to see, getting guys in the end
- 12:30Speaker 7: zone having explosive runs. So it was a good day
- 12:33Speaker 7: for for the for the guys up front.
- 12:35Speaker 6: About you in this offense that you guys seem to
- 12:37Speaker 6: be comfortable and uncomfortable situations.
- 12:40Speaker 7: I think we all have faith in each other. You know,
- 12:42Speaker 7: we got trust and we all care for one another.
- 12:44Speaker 7: There's no one in there that has any doubt when
- 12:46Speaker 7: it comes down to those fourth quarters that we're gonna
- 12:48Speaker 7: be able to, you know, put a drive together and
- 12:49Speaker 7: go down there and score. Right now, we're just searching
- 12:52Speaker 7: for that consistency all game. You know, we're one or
- 12:54Speaker 7: two plays here and there where I felt like, you know,
- 12:57Speaker 7: we would have more points on the board, we would
- 12:58Speaker 7: have been sweating it out at the end. So yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 7: we just gotta continue to work at that.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Getting that touchdown to Deontay.
- 13:05Speaker 2: He hasn't had one and quite a while. Just what
- 13:07Speaker 2: was it when you saw that play development?
- 13:08Speaker 5: What was it like to get him in the end zone?
- 13:10Speaker 1: It was great?
- 13:11Speaker 7: It was awesome obviously, you know it was a big
- 13:13Speaker 7: deal to get him in the end zone. It's been
- 13:15Speaker 7: it's been too long for sure, So you know, see
- 13:18Speaker 7: that smile on his face after that was great and
- 13:20Speaker 7: I'm sure it felt like the world was off his
- 13:21Speaker 7: back now so he can go relax and play and
- 13:24Speaker 7: continue to be the guy that he is.
- 13:26Speaker 1: For is you an unbelievable game?
- 13:28Speaker 3: You guys have a.
- 13:28Speaker 7: Set opening drive said against our significance of that opening
- 13:32Speaker 7: drive for you guys.
- 13:34Speaker 1: It was big.
- 13:34Speaker 7: It was big we did we were searching to do,
- 13:36Speaker 7: you know, all year with that opening drive going down
- 13:38Speaker 7: there and score.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I thought the balance was great.
- 13:40Speaker 7: I thought we had great balance all night the run game,
- 13:42Speaker 7: working off the past vice versa, getting guys some some
- 13:45Speaker 7: really good situations on the outside that helped open up
- 13:49Speaker 7: the run. So it was it was good having that
- 13:51Speaker 7: balance that we can.
- 13:53Speaker 4: You say about how the running backs kind of played
- 13:55Speaker 4: off each other tonight of their ability to kind.
- 13:56Speaker 7: Of hole Yeah, yeah, I think, you know, having two
- 13:58Speaker 7: backs that are that are fresh in there, it's a
- 14:00Speaker 7: huge difference. I think you see it both elite type
- 14:03Speaker 7: backs that when they get going and they and they
- 14:06Speaker 7: started hitting those holes north south, they're really tough to
- 14:08Speaker 7: bring down. They both run really hard, you know, great
- 14:10Speaker 7: speed of power with both of them. And I can't
- 14:13Speaker 7: say enough you know that they do in the past
- 14:14Speaker 7: game as well. I think it's you know, underappreciated with
- 14:17Speaker 7: twenty two and thirty two. When they get the ball
- 14:19Speaker 7: in the flatter they have space. You know, if I
- 14:21Speaker 7: if I were if I'm ever in trouble or if
- 14:24Speaker 7: I don't see the covers clearly checking it down with
- 14:26Speaker 7: those guys and letting them go do their thing was
- 14:28Speaker 7: huge for us.
- 14:31Speaker 2: We have to hear from the guys on the Irish
- 14:33Speaker 2: Steeters podcast. Jimmy, what a big defense to play at
- 14:37Speaker 2: the end when this scheme, I mean like you're talking
- 14:39Speaker 2: but like ways and means you're talking about how this
- 14:41Speaker 2: defense is. He's calling up when it needs to. But
- 14:45Speaker 2: I haven't heard that cry with arches shirt in Pittsburgh
- 14:48Speaker 2: as Lollys a big bands last game. That was one
- 14:50Speaker 2: of the biggest pops I've heard in a long time
- 14:52Speaker 2: with US city.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Absolutely, And before we even talk about the critics, the
- 14:57Speaker 3: crucial play dot am the kwant Alexander have one about
- 15:00Speaker 3: t J Watt and is no helmet sack of Will Levis.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I mean to get your to get your helmet ripped
- 15:06Speaker 3: off by an offensive lineman and I mean his hands
- 15:09Speaker 3: are up on that face mask. That should have been
- 15:10Speaker 3: a penalty at its own right, But then to to
- 15:13Speaker 3: get off the block, circle back around and omegasack and
- 15:16Speaker 3: you could see the ferocity on TJ's face after that.
- 15:20Speaker 3: He's just playing at an all pro level at this stage.
- 15:23Speaker 3: And I would be shocked if a the production doesn't continue,
- 15:26Speaker 3: and b he's not the defensive player of the Year
- 15:29Speaker 3: at the at the end of the year. So looker,
- 15:32Speaker 3: thank god for it for our defense. I mean, even
- 15:34Speaker 3: missing some crucial pieces, they still came up big. Joey
- 15:38Speaker 3: Porter Junior did a very good job of locking up
- 15:40Speaker 3: the DeAndre Hopkins for the for the majority of the game,
- 15:43Speaker 3: one of the best receivers in the league. So yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 3: defense put the team on their back as usual and
- 15:50Speaker 3: got cut the made made the players when required, so
- 15:53Speaker 3: long may that continue as well.
- 15:56Speaker 2: He had a p f F really enjoy Porter Junior
- 15:59Speaker 2: deal of Lady five five point seven coverage grade, which
- 16:02Speaker 2: is just unbelievable to see it at such a young
- 16:04Speaker 2: age in the league. Did you see him and his
- 16:06Speaker 2: old man the similarities that they posted in terms of
- 16:09Speaker 2: that other during the field, I get chills down fives
- 16:12Speaker 2: as well as with them.
- 16:14Speaker 4: He's becoming a great shutdown corner. Even like when we
- 16:17Speaker 4: mentioned a couple of weeks ago, it's the Rams. Anytime
- 16:20Speaker 4: picking the cour who was catching balls left right center.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Anytime he went on him, he was able to guard
- 16:25Speaker 4: him pretty easily. And he's becoming somebody that we knew
- 16:28Speaker 4: he could become. He's become a shutdown corner and nobody
- 16:31Speaker 4: really gets any success against him. I mean, DeAndre Hopkins
- 16:34Speaker 4: is you know, maybe not as good now, but a
- 16:36Speaker 4: couple of years ago he was considered top five receiver
- 16:39Speaker 4: in the league a bit at most. So he's becoming
- 16:42Speaker 4: something that we think we knew he could become. He's
- 16:45Speaker 4: even when he failed us in the second round, we
- 16:47Speaker 4: were thinking, how on earth as he actually loted us.
- 16:50Speaker 4: But he's continued his dog's legacy on as a Pittsburgh
- 16:53Speaker 4: Steeler and it's fantastic to see. I mean I just said,
- 16:56Speaker 4: brings tear toy er eye and it's great to see it.
- 16:58Speaker 1: And long may continue.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Back to you from coach Dolbenman off to the game.
- 17:03Speaker 2: They go in for the seaters, going Biden flee in.
- 17:05Speaker 1: The season, excited about the win.
- 17:11Speaker 8: Obviously it could have been cleaner, first and foremost, from
- 17:15Speaker 8: a penalty perspective, part of being a tough team to
- 17:18Speaker 8: be first is not kicking your own butt, man, and
- 17:21Speaker 8: we kind of been.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Doing that some and we got to own that, and
- 17:24Speaker 1: so we will.
- 17:26Speaker 8: We'll review it, we'll learn from it, we'll look at it,
- 17:29Speaker 8: we'll bring some officials into our practice setting and an
- 17:32Speaker 8: effort to be cleaner because that was catastrophic really, and
- 17:36Speaker 8: a lot of instances to our efforts tonight.
- 17:39Speaker 1: But I'm appreciative of the fight.
- 17:42Speaker 8: We needed this one, and it's good to get it,
- 17:44Speaker 8: get it on a short week and be in the
- 17:47Speaker 8: clubhouse man on a Thursday night, with the necessary victory
- 17:49Speaker 8: for the week, and so excited for them. We'll rest up, man,
- 17:54Speaker 8: take advantage of the long weekend, and and and and
- 17:57Speaker 8: begin our next process. We had a couple of injuries. Obviously,
- 18:00Speaker 8: Cole Holcomb's got a serious injury. I thought some prayers
- 18:05Speaker 8: are with him.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Man.
- 18:06Speaker 8: I'll have an update, I'm sure the next time we
- 18:08Speaker 8: come together regarding the nature of that. Man Adams had
- 18:12Speaker 8: an ankle to what degree, I don't know. I'm sure
- 18:16Speaker 8: we got some other bumps and bruises associated with play,
- 18:20Speaker 8: but thankful for the victory. We'll stack it and move forward.
- 18:25Speaker 8: Questions for one hundred and sixty six yards today? What
- 18:29Speaker 8: was the difference today? You know, I thought we converted
- 18:33Speaker 8: some third downs earlier, and you know, we've been talking
- 18:37Speaker 8: about it, like you convert possession downs, you get more
- 18:41Speaker 8: snaps and and so you know, I think we converted
- 18:45Speaker 8: our first third down in the game, and it's I
- 18:48Speaker 8: don't know how many of those we've had. And so
- 18:50Speaker 8: when you converting third downs, you get more snap opportunities
- 18:54Speaker 8: and that usually leads to the attrition component of play.
- 18:57Speaker 8: And really that's kind of representative of the ring game.
- 19:00Speaker 3: You like what you're getting a one to two punch
- 19:02Speaker 3: from those two guys, different styles.
- 19:05Speaker 8: You know, really tonight was probably our first time to
- 19:08Speaker 8: take a look at it because we had a more
- 19:10Speaker 8: fluid start and so yes, I do.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I do go way into the switch at right tack.
- 19:17Speaker 1: When do you think that helped it?
- 19:19Speaker 8: You know, I just thought we needed a spark. I
- 19:21Speaker 8: thought Broderick had worked hard, was deserving of an opportunity,
- 19:24Speaker 8: and so we gave it to him.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Great their coach Somlin after a big win and look
- 19:30Speaker 2: win to win after win every day of the week,
- 19:32Speaker 2: boys fighting flee in the season. But I keep marching
- 19:34Speaker 2: all night as we entered the tenth week of the season.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Because first he's given a very very quick shout out
- 19:39Speaker 2: and met's a lot of steet edition in Germany the
- 19:42Speaker 2: weekend always say a lot twenty people on Saturday evening
- 19:47Speaker 2: a couple of Urs actually come up to say and
- 19:49Speaker 2: saying they've seeing the content online for the podcast Guys
- 19:52Speaker 2: from Mines guidance from Dortmund and Cologne at big Steeters fans,
- 19:57Speaker 2: I want to give a shout out to them, and
- 19:58Speaker 2: I know the day would love to see a game
- 20:01Speaker 2: in Europe, whether else in Ireland or wherever. We'll see
- 20:03Speaker 2: what happens, but I know they're all very very happy
- 20:05Speaker 2: to see it continued expanding, and I know there's great
- 20:07Speaker 2: work going on in Germany with the Staers also, so
- 20:10Speaker 2: props to them. And please do if you're out of
- 20:12Speaker 2: the game this weekend and you're wearing your black and yellow,
- 20:15Speaker 2: please to give us a shout and we'll get a
- 20:18Speaker 2: picture or something for the crack and look Packers this weekend.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Boys like this is a game where I said of
- 20:25Speaker 2: last Sunday before the Packers came into the game against
- 20:27Speaker 2: the Rams, I think anybody would would Genu want to
- 20:30Speaker 2: be forgiven for thinking looking down the stretch two weeks
- 20:33Speaker 2: LA are going this is a good matchup for the
- 20:35Speaker 2: Steers team to have and Jimmy, the way the Packers
- 20:38Speaker 2: played against the Rams last week, Jordan Love starting to
- 20:41Speaker 2: develop a bit more, albeit that we're going up against
- 20:43Speaker 2: ripping but the Packers team with their young cores offense,
- 20:48Speaker 2: could pose problems to any team. Never mind the fact
- 20:51Speaker 2: they're going to go in to Pittsburgh this weekend. This
- 20:53Speaker 2: is a really interesting matchup on this weekend.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and this game concerns me a little bit more
- 20:59Speaker 3: than the previous ones, purely for the fact that the
- 21:01Speaker 3: Steelers have an unfortunate tendency to play down to teams
- 21:04Speaker 3: with a worse record or received lesser teams. You know,
- 21:09Speaker 3: the Packers are coming in with a three and five records.
- 21:12Speaker 3: They're losing record the mirror image of our record, so
- 21:16Speaker 3: I think we have to be on our guard a
- 21:17Speaker 3: little bit. Of course, you mentioned there Jordan low he
- 21:20Speaker 3: bided his time behind Aaron Rodgers. He is now one
- 21:23Speaker 3: of the upcoming quarterbacks in the league. You know some
- 21:26Speaker 3: top talented wide receivers. You have Romeo Doves there. You
- 21:29Speaker 3: also have Aaron Jones, obviously an unfortunate fumble against the
- 21:32Speaker 3: Rams last weekend, but still one of the premier backs
- 21:36Speaker 3: in the league. So I think it's going to be challenging.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I think they're going to pass the ball a lot.
- 21:40Speaker 3: I think they're going to challenge our secondary. But you
- 21:44Speaker 3: know it, Look, it's it's a six o'clock game, so
- 21:47Speaker 3: we won't be up to the wee hours watching, So
- 21:49Speaker 3: I'm grateful for that, at.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Least the we ours high. Litt Will you go for
- 21:55Speaker 2: a live game with a will to do it?
- 21:58Speaker 3: It's a very good question, Michael depens depends, you know,
- 22:02Speaker 3: I could probably push it out to one am. Well,
- 22:05Speaker 3: you know, like like I've like I'm fine to saying
- 22:07Speaker 3: I'm a mounderneath my sleep. So it all depends on
- 22:11Speaker 3: the caliber of the game and what I have going
- 22:13Speaker 3: on the next day.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I was tempted to watch all of that football
- 22:17Speaker 2: last week at two o'clock. I just couldn't do it.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I think it's it is Steeters, yes, but if it's
- 22:23Speaker 2: a different if it's a big, big game, it just
- 22:25Speaker 2: depends on how you're feeling. But I'm more of like
- 22:28Speaker 2: a like a two or three. I look, I'm at
- 22:31Speaker 2: deplete mob when it comes to watching something, but I
- 22:33Speaker 2: love it as well. Dove, what do you think of
- 22:36Speaker 2: the keys of the game this weekend outside of the
- 22:38Speaker 2: you know, the normal ones, the high end defense. Trying
- 22:42Speaker 2: to get to Jordan Love like this is a Packers
- 22:43Speaker 2: scene that a lot of us, even though we're ten
- 22:45Speaker 2: weeks and we don't know that much about them, because
- 22:48Speaker 2: they're chopping and changing each week. They're developing as a team,
- 22:51Speaker 2: and I guess for us will want to see the
- 22:52Speaker 2: offense continue to try and Jal and see Kenny get
- 22:55Speaker 2: better and better this week.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Yeah, no, that's that's obviously the key to the game,
- 23:01Speaker 4: just improving on the offense getting better every single week.
- 23:04Speaker 4: You know, Green Bed, they're They're not a great team.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Let's be honest about it. You know, they're sort of
- 23:09Speaker 4: middle of the pack. Jordan Love hasn't got really much.
- 23:14Speaker 4: You know, he hasn't got really any really specialty. He
- 23:15Speaker 4: hasn't got the greatest arm, not the most mobile quarterback.
- 23:19Speaker 4: He's on so far in his young career, if you like,
- 23:22Speaker 4: he hasn't proven much. I mean he's had a few
- 23:25Speaker 4: glimpses here and there. But honestly, our defense should be
- 23:28Speaker 4: able to deal with their offense relatively easily. I mean,
- 23:30Speaker 4: they haven't got that many great weapons to suppose, you
- 23:33Speaker 4: could say. But as Jimmy just said, you know, we
- 23:35Speaker 4: do sometimes tend to play down to the top position.
- 23:38Speaker 4: I remember as well, this is funny enough Green Bay
- 23:41Speaker 4: Packers a couple of years ago and Saturday Night football.
- 23:43Speaker 4: We let Brad Huntley come in and he sort of
- 23:45Speaker 4: dictated the game against us. So it's never easy against
- 23:48Speaker 4: especially against a franchisese like the Packers. You know, they're
- 23:51Speaker 4: always going to be there and they're always going to
- 23:53Speaker 4: be competitive. So keep the defense playing the way they are.
- 23:56Speaker 4: The offense just stap it up another notch, you know,
- 23:58Speaker 4: can get Kenny better rhythm, hopefully better in the first
- 24:01Speaker 4: quarter this time around, and before we know what, hopefully
- 24:04Speaker 4: we're rolling under another one of the last series of
- 24:07Speaker 4: this sort of stretch of home games we have. So
- 24:09Speaker 4: if we can come off next week section three, then
- 24:12Speaker 4: that's obviously a positive. And you know we'll go into
- 24:14Speaker 4: the Browns game the watch party next week. And speaking
- 24:18Speaker 4: of first down first downs day.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I think.
- 24:22Speaker 3: The game against the Titans was we had a first
- 24:25Speaker 3: down in the first half of the first quarter, I believe,
- 24:28Speaker 3: and it was the first time I remember first down
- 24:31Speaker 3: in the first half of the Steaders game in a
- 24:33Speaker 3: long time. Look, that's progression. We've been saying it the
- 24:36Speaker 3: whole time. The Steaders are obviously building their offense up
- 24:41Speaker 3: slowly and slowly and slowly, and I genuinely thought we're
- 24:44Speaker 3: all waiting for the offense to wexplode. So hopefully at
- 24:48Speaker 3: some stage we do see that this season.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Absolutely, I'm like, I feel like I mentioned this every week, Jimmy,
- 24:56Speaker 2: to be honestly, but like when you look at the
- 24:59Speaker 2: division and you se with the Bengals done in week nine,
- 25:01Speaker 2: you see what that Brothers defense can do against different teams,
- 25:04Speaker 2: and you see, like everyone's told them the Ravens, we
- 25:07Speaker 2: have to keep winning, yes, flee, but use these next
- 25:11Speaker 2: two weeks, Use the game against the Packers, use this
- 25:13Speaker 2: game against the Brothers next week in the water party
- 25:16Speaker 2: in Dublin as a way to get the Sablane imagine
- 25:18Speaker 2: leaving from Parks severably are incredible.
- 25:21Speaker 3: That yeah, absolutely. I mean from a division that look
- 25:24Speaker 3: didn't look to be any great shakes in the early
- 25:26Speaker 3: weeks of the season, it really has heated up now
- 25:28Speaker 3: to become I think one of the best, the best divisions,
- 25:32Speaker 3: especially in the conference meet you look at the AFC West,
- 25:34Speaker 3: that's pretty much sun up but achieves at this stage,
- 25:39Speaker 3: having really been keeping tabs at AFC East is probably
- 25:41Speaker 3: going to come down to the bank to the Bills
- 25:43Speaker 3: and the Dolphins as it usually does. But yeah, though,
- 25:46Speaker 3: this is definitely a huge competitive division and every every
- 25:50Speaker 3: win counts, especially where you can hopefully pick up relatively
- 25:53Speaker 3: easy wins against non division opponents like the Packers and
- 25:58Speaker 3: the and the Titans as well. So just keep winning,
- 26:01Speaker 3: that's all we have to do. I mean, like I
- 26:02Speaker 3: said earlier, I think the Steelers are genuinely at this
- 26:05Speaker 3: stage playoff contender, and if they can just keep it
- 26:08Speaker 3: up and make steady improvements week on week, did give
- 26:12Speaker 3: me your.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Pick, I'm going to say the Steers win this game
- 26:14Speaker 2: twenty four. The fourteen defense are good. I think Kenny
- 26:20Speaker 2: takes step up this week. And I'm gonna say that
- 26:22Speaker 2: both Deonti Johnson and George Pickens get a passing fustyle
- 26:27Speaker 2: in this game.
- 26:31Speaker 4: It can happen, It can easily happen. I mean with George,
- 26:34Speaker 4: you know what, He's obviously left the field a bit
- 26:37Speaker 4: frustrated last week that he didn't manage to keep his
- 26:39Speaker 4: feet in. But you know, there's always learned about learning
- 26:41Speaker 4: curve you can take. But then I'm going for a
- 26:44Speaker 4: bit lower scoring and I'm going for twenty one eleven.
- 26:46Speaker 4: I think our defense they should be able to sort
- 26:49Speaker 4: of keep them at bay.
- 26:50Speaker 1: You know.
- 26:51Speaker 4: What's that?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Are you on the safe the end of that? Yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 2: at eleven, I like.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Tackle eleven points here on my head.
- 26:58Speaker 4: Well, you know, they take teams noday. They don't like
- 27:00Speaker 4: chicken field goals. They just prefer going for two. So
- 27:02Speaker 4: I think the Packers are maybe one of those. But
- 27:05Speaker 4: that's that's what I'm going for. I think, honestly, I
- 27:08Speaker 4: think if our defense can just play the way they
- 27:10Speaker 4: usually do, they shouldn't have any real issues dealing with
- 27:13Speaker 4: Jordan Love and our offense. You know, at the same time,
- 27:17Speaker 4: we keep tawnl ourselves. We hope it gets better. We
- 27:19Speaker 4: hope script it gets better. A lot of times we
- 27:22Speaker 4: do sort of we do. We do improve obviously week
- 27:25Speaker 4: by week. But I'm just trying to be a bit
- 27:26Speaker 4: more conservative. I've been going for recently, been going for
- 27:29Speaker 4: twenty eight, twenty one stuff, and we never seem to
- 27:32Speaker 4: put it up in fact, So I just think it's
- 27:35Speaker 4: one of those things where if we can just keep
- 27:38Speaker 4: our defense in the same shape and we can easily
- 27:40Speaker 4: just sort of keep them a bit with one arms
- 27:42Speaker 4: length and hopefully we'll come out with a win. So
- 27:45Speaker 4: that's my prediction. Twenty one the eleven, bring them back.
- 27:47Speaker 4: As I say, give me.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Full huts before it.
- 27:52Speaker 3: By pick Michael, I'd like to call attention to Dave
- 27:55Speaker 3: who is doing November and he's made He's made quite
- 27:58Speaker 3: a decent effort so far. So, Dave, do you have
- 28:00Speaker 3: a fundraising link? Do you know what?
- 28:05Speaker 4: Jimmy, I'm one of those that just go you know what.
- 28:07Speaker 4: I'm not gonna ask anybody for money. I'm just gonna
- 28:09Speaker 4: do it in the sorry though, who knows, who knows
- 28:11Speaker 4: what will happen. But I'll tell you what, if the
- 28:12Speaker 4: Steelers win, I'll pub one up. You can definitely doing it.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Well, you know what. I commend you for your efforts.
- 28:17Speaker 3: So I wanted to call attention to the fact that
- 28:19Speaker 3: our own Dave McKee is partaking in November. So if
- 28:22Speaker 3: and when he starts accepting donations, please give generously. In
- 28:26Speaker 3: terms of my pick, I'm gonna do what I normally
- 28:29Speaker 3: don't do and go less conservative and I'm gonna ut
- 28:34Speaker 3: faith in the Steeters and I'm going to go twenty
- 28:36Speaker 3: eight to ten Steelers. I think George Pickens tones for
- 28:40Speaker 3: his sloppy, lack of a toe drag, and I think, yeah,
- 28:44Speaker 3: I think we get four touchdowns. I have a feeling
- 28:46Speaker 3: that Matt Cannon had been on the sideline is an
- 28:50Speaker 3: improvement and I think it gives him more of a
- 28:52Speaker 3: connection with the offense. He's able to communicate better with
- 28:55Speaker 3: his quarterback and his offensive players, and I think it's
- 28:59Speaker 3: better for the team in general. So I think, yeah,
- 29:01Speaker 3: twenty eight ten, take back to the bank.
- 29:04Speaker 4: I'll tell you what, if it's twenty eight ten, I'll
- 29:06Speaker 4: definitely put us. I definitely put my fund raiser up,
- 29:09Speaker 4: no problem.
- 29:09Speaker 3: If it's twenty If it's twenty eight ten, I'll be
- 29:11Speaker 3: the first person to make with the nation.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Dave, I want to start shaving at this point. Boise, Yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 2: we had calls to them up as well. But for Blayda,
- 29:21Speaker 2: we don't know what the time of recording that the
- 29:22Speaker 2: game is on Sky Sports in Ireland in the UK,
- 29:24Speaker 2: but we know it's an off the ball and the
- 29:25Speaker 2: radio coverage. I have to say, listening to a game
