Latest / The Gregg Bell Show / 6-3 H1: M's On Fire & Seahawks OTAs
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We'll talk about that compared to Boye mafe in the
- 0:03Speaker 1: choice that the Seahawks made. We'll talk about also how
- 0:06Speaker 1: far the Seahawks have come all over the roster since
- 0:10Speaker 1: the OTA's last year twelve years ago, at this twelve
- 0:13Speaker 1: months ago, at this time. It's a stark difference when
- 0:16Speaker 1: you go down the roster and the positions to where
- 0:19Speaker 1: they were this time last year to where they are now.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Of course, they won the Super Bowl and that would
- 0:25Speaker 1: suggest what they did last year is right, but not
- 0:28Speaker 1: only did the differences, but how remarkably the same the
- 0:33Speaker 1: continuity they've had from this at the end of the
- 0:36Speaker 1: Super Bowl on February eighth to the start of these OTAs.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We'll detail all of that. We'll talk about the bottom
- 0:43Speaker 1: of the Mariner's lineup, keeping the Mariners winning streak going
- 0:46Speaker 1: from unlikely sources.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Last night.
- 0:49Speaker 1: We'll also discuss I mentioned this a few times and
- 0:52Speaker 1: Chris is tired of hearing it, but the Stanley Cup
- 0:54Speaker 1: Finals on Sportsnet CBC the viewing experience compared to ab
- 1:00Speaker 1: ESPN or TNT last year for the final, it's.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Just night and day.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It's like a completely different sporting viewing experience. We'll give
- 1:09Speaker 1: you a taste of that and describe the difference between
- 1:12Speaker 1: the two broadcasts, and of coursh We're fortunate here in Seattle.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I've mentioned him many times.
- 1:16Speaker 1: If you're gonna spend here at pay the five hundred,
- 1:19Speaker 1: six hundred dollars when it seems like Comcast charges you
- 1:21Speaker 1: for gable these days per month here in Seattle. Maybe
- 1:26Speaker 1: the what makes it worth it is having CBC out
- 1:29Speaker 1: of Vancouver channel ninety nine and six nineteen HD to
- 1:32Speaker 1: watch the Stanley Cup Finals Stanley Cup Playoffs on Sportsnet CBC.
- 1:37Speaker 1: We'll talk about that at eleven o'clock. As I mentioned,
- 1:38Speaker 1: Nate Atkins, Rams beat writer for the Athletic a lot
- 1:43Speaker 1: going on with the Rams, the Seahawks' biggest obstacle to
- 1:47Speaker 1: getting back to the Super Bowl, making massive moves. A
- 1:50Speaker 1: lot of people on the text line four nine, four
- 1:52Speaker 1: to five one at the Comadots text line asking the
- 1:53Speaker 1: last few is how do the Rams afford all this?
- 1:55Speaker 1: We talked a little bit about how they afford Miles
- 1:57Speaker 1: Garrett and his low base salary for the.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Next couple of years. But Nate Atkins will talk.
- 2:03Speaker 1: About that and we'll talk to him about how the
- 2:06Speaker 1: Rams kick the can down the road, salary cap wise,
- 2:11Speaker 1: draft pick wise, and are all in again all in
- 2:15Speaker 1: for Matthew Stafford's age thirty eight season. We'll talk with
- 2:17Speaker 1: Nate Adkins at eleven o'clock eleven thirty. We'll read back
- 2:20Speaker 1: your text four ninety four five to one, as we
- 2:22Speaker 1: always do.
- 2:24Speaker 2: So what was your sports viewing last night? Chris Mariners?
- 2:27Speaker 2: I guess or do we just with the wife chilling
- 2:30Speaker 2: those Mariners? They are?
- 2:32Speaker 3: Oh man, it's been fun.
- 2:34Speaker 4: We talked about it, I want to say, perhaps two
- 2:36Speaker 4: weeks ago, about where this team is and where they
- 2:40Speaker 4: should be headed going against teams that aren't as good
- 2:42Speaker 4: as them, and there are multiple reasons to be optimistic
- 2:46Speaker 4: about this team, and there's some reasons that I think
- 2:48Speaker 4: you can stay cautious. And one of those reasons I
- 2:50Speaker 4: think we talk about have talked about in the past
- 2:53Speaker 4: a lot, is about the home run situation. They've hit
- 2:55Speaker 4: twenty one home runs in eight games, and that's not sustainable.
- 2:59Speaker 4: So I'm hoping they can find a way to get
- 3:01Speaker 4: on base and get RBIs driving runs in as opposed.
- 3:04Speaker 3: To hitting homers.
- 3:05Speaker 4: So the best offenses I think will cool off eventually
- 3:08Speaker 4: and hopefully the Mariners can get on base and get
- 3:10Speaker 4: hits as opposed to smacking the ball at the park,
- 3:12Speaker 4: which is exciting and fun as we played through it
- 3:15Speaker 4: in the headlines. But I'm looking at it for the
- 3:18Speaker 4: long haul. Can this team manufacturer runs outside of home runs?
- 3:24Speaker 1: You're right, that is the dark cloud on the horizon.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Better pitching, better teams can shut down an offense that
- 3:32Speaker 1: just hits home runs. Of course, the flip side of
- 3:34Speaker 1: it is, if you've got a one five ERA from
- 3:37Speaker 1: your starting pitchers and you're only giving up a couple
- 3:39Speaker 1: runs a game, perhaps you can win this way, but
- 3:42Speaker 1: it isn't over the long haul proven to be sustainable
- 3:45Speaker 1: to win that way. But this team has done this
- 3:47Speaker 1: largely over the last couple of seasons the same way. Well,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I agree with you, Chris on the home run dependent offense.
- 3:53Speaker 1: They got home runs last night from two really unlikely heroes.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I mentioned Patrick Wisdom that home run last night, the
- 4:00Speaker 1: second inning into the bullpen into Edgards canteena there beyond
- 4:03Speaker 1: left field. That was his first major league home run
- 4:05Speaker 1: since September twenty twenty four, when he was a Chicago Cup.
- 4:09Speaker 1: He spent last year playing professionally in Korea all the
- 4:13Speaker 1: twenty five season, what even in the major leagues last year,
- 4:15Speaker 1: so that was his first time for a major league
- 4:17Speaker 1: home run in two seasons. Then Johnny Parreda up from
- 4:21Speaker 1: Tacoma because of the injury to Kyle Rawley. Parreto, of course,
- 4:24Speaker 1: splitting time with Mitch Garver. They pretty much alternate days
- 4:28Speaker 1: as the catcher while Rawley's on the injured list. Parada's
- 4:31Speaker 1: three run homer man that was ilew the game open.
- 4:34Speaker 1: It was four to two games at that point when
- 4:36Speaker 1: he hit it in the sixth thing. It was his
- 4:37Speaker 1: only Parada's second home run in sixty major league games
- 4:41Speaker 1: across a few seasons, including from the Miami Marlins, Florida Marlins,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and then Julia Rodriguez again, thirteenth home run of the season,
- 4:50Speaker 1: his eleventh home run since the start of May. But
- 4:54Speaker 1: it was the bottom of the lineup yesterday. The bottom
- 4:56Speaker 1: four of the lineup last night don Can Zone, Patrick Wisdom,
- 4:59Speaker 1: John Rookie cold Emerson. They went eight for fifteen, with
- 5:04Speaker 1: five of the Mariners seven RBIs. Five of their eight
- 5:08Speaker 1: runs scored last night from the bottom four in the lineup.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Chris mentioned the heavy dependents on the home run and
- 5:14Speaker 1: the twenty one home runs during this eight game winning streak.
- 5:17Speaker 1: That's contributed to the Mariners ops of eight eight seven
- 5:20Speaker 1: during the win streak, But they also have a team
- 5:23Speaker 1: ERA of one point nine to two, and that's why
- 5:26Speaker 1: there's a run differential a plus thirty during this win streak.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And if you can get an ra hunder two, you
- 5:33Speaker 1: don't have to scratch out more than two runs to
- 5:35Speaker 1: win games like that. Their defense has improved. Yes, some
- 5:39Speaker 1: of the competition has been sub and including the Athletics,
- 5:44Speaker 1: who we all know are not a first place team.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And now the Mets come in here. They've been dysfunctional
- 5:49Speaker 1: all year with the massive payroll but no results. This
- 5:53Speaker 1: is Chris. We talked about this at the beginning of
- 5:56Speaker 1: the end of last week. The opportunity here. How long
- 5:59Speaker 1: is this winning streak going to? Oh twelve, fourteen games?
- 6:03Speaker 1: The Mariners play the last place Mets again today, could
- 6:06Speaker 1: get the streak to nine. George Kirby on the Hill.
- 6:09Speaker 1: They're off tomorrow, they fly to Michigan. They've have a
- 6:11Speaker 1: three game series against Detroit where the Tigers are fourteen
- 6:13Speaker 1: games under five hundred. We talked about Derek Scoogle in fact,
- 6:17Speaker 1: he may get traded if he does come back early
- 6:19Speaker 1: from his elbow surgery. They've been in last place most
- 6:22Speaker 1: of the season. Tigers after their division title series and
- 6:26Speaker 1: division series in Seattle last fall, then the Mariners. After
- 6:30Speaker 1: the Tigers play the Orioles in Baltimore. They're also under
- 6:33Speaker 1: five hundred. The Oriels have been at the bottom of
- 6:35Speaker 1: the al least most of the season.
- 6:37Speaker 2: That's six more games on top.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Of the you would hope nine game winning streak they
- 6:41Speaker 1: take into Detroit and then the Mariners finish off the
- 6:44Speaker 1: three city road trip at Washington. The Nationals have lost
- 6:48Speaker 1: two in a row. They're right at five hundred, ten
- 6:50Speaker 1: and a half games out in the National League East. Chris,
- 6:54Speaker 1: we talked about this at the time for the Mariners
- 6:56Speaker 1: to make their move, and they have in eight days,
- 6:58Speaker 1: eight wins. They've gone from two and a half back
- 7:01Speaker 1: to two and a half up, a five games swing
- 7:03Speaker 1: in the division. Suddenly Texas is playing better, but it's
- 7:07Speaker 1: not going to take much more winning for the managers
- 7:10Speaker 1: to open up a sizeable lead here.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Absolutely, this eight game win streak I don't think has
- 7:15Speaker 4: been fluky. I guess is the word I'll use, especially
- 7:19Speaker 4: on the close proximity for some of these games some
- 7:23Speaker 4: of the wins they've had. Seattle is winning on a
- 7:26Speaker 4: few different ways. Whether it's power hitting, which we talked
- 7:29Speaker 4: about the Homers. You have quality starting pitching, which has
- 7:32Speaker 4: always been a plus for this team, strong bullpen work
- 7:35Speaker 4: as well, and even extra inning games so even when
- 7:38Speaker 4: it gets late tenth inning or whatever, the managers are
- 7:41Speaker 4: still able to find a way to win. And as
- 7:43Speaker 4: you mentioned, the pitching has just been amazing. They are,
- 7:46Speaker 4: if I'm not mistaken, under era under two over an
- 7:49Speaker 4: eight game stretch, and that's impressive, and I think that's
- 7:53Speaker 4: something they can do for a little bit longer.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I'm hoping so at least.
- 7:57Speaker 4: And the offense, also, I don't think is relying on Hey,
- 8:00Speaker 4: we have our superstar right now and Julio he's carrying this.
- 8:04Speaker 4: It's multiple different players, so that's really cool to see
- 8:07Speaker 4: and let's just hope that it continues. I mean, even
- 8:09Speaker 4: guys like Patrick Wisdom stepping up and Johnny Peretta, those
- 8:13Speaker 4: are really key components to why this streak is happening.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Granted they're playing against not good teams right now, but
- 8:20Speaker 4: this is what you'd want to see from a good
- 8:22Speaker 4: team taking on a bat team. You want to see
- 8:24Speaker 4: them handle bins, winning eight to three, making it look
- 8:26Speaker 4: really easy. And hope they get to sweep this afternoon
- 8:29Speaker 4: and you move on to the next series and continue
- 8:31Speaker 4: playing some good baseball.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Fourtnite, four five one. How long is this streak going
- 8:36Speaker 2: to go?
- 8:36Speaker 1: I just laid out the last place team, pretty much
- 8:40Speaker 1: last place team in Detroit. That's the next four games,
- 8:43Speaker 1: Mets and Tigers and then the Orioles. They get to twelve. Well,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I excite you about this manners win streak? What sustainable?
- 8:51Speaker 1: And how concerned are you about this home run reliance?
- 8:54Speaker 1: And four nine four to five one. We'll read back
- 8:56Speaker 1: to text at eleven thirty. So when you get out
- 8:58Speaker 1: to the yard, Chris, if you've been to a game
- 9:00Speaker 1: this season.
- 9:01Speaker 4: No, I was going to go yesterday, but I had
- 9:04Speaker 4: a meeting with a friend and we just caught up
- 9:06Speaker 4: and grabbed lunch. So I missed it going to the
- 9:08Speaker 4: game live, but was still able to catch it on TV.
- 9:11Speaker 3: So I don't know if I'm not.
- 9:12Speaker 4: I like being at the crib and enjoying the game
- 9:15Speaker 4: inside quiet, eating when I want, using the restroom. Going
- 9:18Speaker 4: to games is just you know, it's a little chaotic
- 9:21Speaker 4: for you boy, unless it just depends. So I'll probably
- 9:24Speaker 4: end up going to a game at some point this year.
- 9:26Speaker 4: But I do enjoy being at the crib and just
- 9:29Speaker 4: grabbing a hogdog at home.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah, they make it easy for television, but you go
- 9:33Speaker 1: ton A on your way home twelve forty starting to Mattinee,
- 9:36Speaker 1: it won't be quite as many people.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Twenty eight thousand last night.
- 9:39Speaker 1: By the way, the Mariners are a couple thousand up
- 9:41Speaker 1: on their average attendance home games over last season. It's
- 9:46Speaker 1: I think the latest I looked at was like thirty
- 9:47Speaker 1: five thousand and thirty four thousand a game, up a
- 9:51Speaker 1: couple thousand over last year. And that's with the weather
- 9:54Speaker 1: not being great, cooler, and that's with kids in school.
- 9:57Speaker 1: It's only going to go up. They've got fire Night's
- 10:00Speaker 1: scheduled for the next few Friday night home games. They
- 10:02Speaker 1: had one last weekend that forty three thousand we're in
- 10:05Speaker 1: the yard for. And now you got the first place team.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I mean there I was in thirty four thousand with
- 10:10Speaker 1: a team that was really middling, and now here there
- 10:13Speaker 1: in first place. So the Mariners at the box office
- 10:17Speaker 1: there is another success, which is chicken and the egg thing, right,
- 10:20Speaker 1: and you're going to spend the extra money and they
- 10:23Speaker 1: haven't shown the willingness to in the offseason add to
- 10:26Speaker 1: payroll when they do get added revenue. But they have
- 10:29Speaker 1: made the splash moves at the trade dead nine. We
- 10:31Speaker 1: talked yesterday to Luke Arkins about that. We've talked to
- 10:34Speaker 1: a couple of people about We talked to Gary Hill
- 10:38Speaker 1: Junior last Friday about the Mariners. Pretty much the clubhouse
- 10:42Speaker 1: expecting the Mariners to make a move before the trade
- 10:45Speaker 1: deadline on July thirty first. But maybe it's as yesterday
- 10:50Speaker 1: Luke Arkans said, perhaps incremental or supplemental pieces rather than
- 10:54Speaker 1: the big splash Randy Rose Arena, Luis Castillo, Josh Naylor
- 11:00Speaker 1: type trades that Jerry Depoto's pulled off the last few
- 11:03Speaker 1: trade deadlines. Look, it's easy to say now with an
- 11:06Speaker 1: eight game winning streak, but what would you add too?
- 11:10Speaker 1: I mean you maybe a veteran presence in the bullpen.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Gabe Spier's back, but maybe you need Gabe Spier and
- 11:18Speaker 1: Bat Brash are back, but maybe another veteran set up
- 11:20Speaker 1: in the bullpen. You don't need another starting pitcher because
- 11:24Speaker 1: he got six healthy ones right now and they don't
- 11:26Speaker 1: have room to pitch all six of them without piggybacking
- 11:29Speaker 1: and six men rotation stuff. We've talked about Brendan Donovan
- 11:33Speaker 1: when he comes back, the log jam in the infield,
- 11:36Speaker 1: and what you do with JP Crawford. Do you keep
- 11:38Speaker 1: Colet Emerson where he is at third base Donovan because
- 11:42Speaker 1: of his lingering issues from sports hernia surgery? Do you
- 11:45Speaker 1: make him more of a d H which is what
- 11:48Speaker 1: Luke Arkins on our show yesterday suggested. So you wouldn't
- 11:53Speaker 1: think they need to add more defenders in the infield.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You wouldn't think that you need to add more in
- 12:00Speaker 1: the outfield when you already have Rayley and road Blaze
- 12:04Speaker 1: platooning and can zone platooning at DHA. All of a sudden,
- 12:10Speaker 1: it seems like as long as their offense can continue
- 12:13Speaker 1: to produce consistently, with especially guys at the bottom of
- 12:15Speaker 1: the lineup, it seems like, Chris, where do you add?
- 12:19Speaker 1: Where does the splash move at the trade deadline? Jerry
- 12:22Speaker 1: to Poto is so famous for where does that happen? Man?
- 12:26Speaker 4: That is the big question. I would say, get another
- 12:30Speaker 4: bat just because of the injuries and everything going on,
- 12:34Speaker 4: it would be nice to have more depth now. Not
- 12:37Speaker 4: to discredit the guys that we mentioned that are playing
- 12:39Speaker 4: well now, but when they go up against a better unit,
- 12:43Speaker 4: how will they fare then? So I think if you
- 12:45Speaker 4: can get a bat that you can rely on when
- 12:48Speaker 4: someone gets banged up, I think that would be the
- 12:51Speaker 4: route to go.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Maybe another pitch or two.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Especially with Castillo, everyone is raving and ranting about his play.
- 12:58Speaker 4: I think he's been fine, but I do know there
- 13:01Speaker 4: is room to improve, So I think that's an opportunity
- 13:04Speaker 4: to really get some depth there. So I'd say a
- 13:07Speaker 4: bat and maybe another pitcher. I think those two things
- 13:09Speaker 4: you can never go wrong with, and hope that this
- 13:12Speaker 4: team can go in a nice long run going to
- 13:14Speaker 4: the postseason for twenty twenty six.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Louise Castillo has stepped it up since they went into
- 13:19Speaker 1: this piggyback mode and it seemed like his place in
- 13:22Speaker 1: Seattle was threatened. He has come on, he has responded
- 13:26Speaker 1: to it. Still a lot of walks for his liking,
- 13:29Speaker 1: but yeah, he's had a couple now starts three in
- 13:33Speaker 1: a row now of two or fewer earned runs allowed.
- 13:36Speaker 1: He had a four innings shut out two hits against
- 13:39Speaker 1: the A's when he threw a tantrum, and rightly so
- 13:41Speaker 1: in the dugout when they took him out after four
- 13:43Speaker 1: scoreless innings because they apparently hadn't communicated to him or
- 13:46Speaker 1: to Bryce Miller when they were going to use him.
- 13:48Speaker 1: But in this piggyback with Luis Castile, it's interesting to
- 13:51Speaker 1: look at his pitch counts fifty four when he came
- 13:55Speaker 1: in relief the first time of Bryce Miller against the
- 13:58Speaker 1: White Sox, that start against the A's when he had
- 14:02Speaker 1: only two hits and no runs all out through four innings,
- 14:04Speaker 1: and they yanked him anyway seventy one when he got
- 14:07Speaker 1: five innings and at least got the win ending the
- 14:09Speaker 1: final five innings against the Diamondbacks on Sunday when Miller
- 14:12Speaker 1: started in the game won ten innings. So while they
- 14:17Speaker 1: want to keep them the most Miller in Castillo stretched out,
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's not like they have had starter usual starter workload
- 14:26Speaker 1: pitch count wise or innings wise, and Castillo has so
- 14:30Speaker 1: far responded to that two Urn runs alout, no Urn
- 14:34Speaker 1: runs a out and one Aron run all out and
- 14:35Speaker 1: the three starts since they started the piggyback, we'll see
- 14:38Speaker 1: where that goes Again, The Mariners, as we mentioned, have
- 14:41Speaker 1: sixteen games in seventeen days, which that has them thinking
- 14:45Speaker 1: that maybe they'll go to a six man rotation to
- 14:47Speaker 1: give every starter an extra day's rest rather than piggybacking
- 14:51Speaker 1: Castillo and Miller on the same day. So they still
- 14:55Speaker 1: have six starters for five spots basically, and they may
- 14:57Speaker 1: just use all six of them and stretch everybody out
- 15:00Speaker 1: on an extra day's rest. Four nine, four to five
- 15:02Speaker 1: to one. Again, what do you feel like the Mariners
- 15:05Speaker 1: could add at the trade deadline? Should add at the
- 15:06Speaker 1: trade deadline? And what if there are any rain clouds
- 15:09Speaker 1: ahead the home run reliance? Will cal Rawley return? When
- 15:13Speaker 1: will he return? Will he become cal Rawley again? When
- 15:16Speaker 1: he returns. We'll readback your texting at the comodods text
- 15:19Speaker 1: line at eleven thirty, as we do every day. Up
- 15:22Speaker 1: next here from Seahawks headquarters, Let's talk about the OTAs
- 15:26Speaker 1: now versus the OTAs twelve months ago when I was
- 15:29Speaker 1: sitting here doing Seahawks offseason practices. It is really stark
- 15:34Speaker 1: the difference between then and now, and not just because
- 15:37Speaker 1: they won a Super Bowl. We're gonna go down through
- 15:38Speaker 1: the roster and talk about the differences. Eleven o'clock, we're
- 15:41Speaker 1: gonna go to Los Angeles and talk about the dreaded Rams.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Reloading with Nate Atkins, beat writer of the Lams for
- 15:47Speaker 1: the Athletic All that's coming up at ninety three point
- 15:49Speaker 1: three KJRFM.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Now back to Greg Bell and Christopher Kidd on your
- 15:54Speaker 5: home for the Huskies, Krackett and the twelfth Man Sports
- 15:57Speaker 5: Radio ninety three point three FM.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center, home of
- 16:11Speaker 1: the Seahawks along Lake Washington here in Renton, where they.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Have Organized Team Activities practice. I don't know why they
- 16:17Speaker 2: just don't call it. OTA's what they call them.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I don't know why they was called OPS for off
- 16:22Speaker 1: season practices, because that's really what they are. But it's
- 16:25Speaker 1: off organized team activities. This week and next week the
- 16:29Speaker 1: last week and this week were the two OTA weeks.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Next week the mandatory mini camp, the only mandatory event
- 16:35Speaker 1: of the entire offseason for the Seahawks, with three practices Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
- 16:40Speaker 1: and then they're done. They're off until the end of
- 16:42Speaker 1: July on the start of training camp. The big news
- 16:44Speaker 1: today here at Seahawks headquarters. Derek Hall. He signed his
- 16:48Speaker 1: three year contract extension ties into the team through twenty
- 16:51Speaker 1: twenty nine. He's got a forty two million dollars contract
- 16:54Speaker 1: with twenty one million dollars guaranteed.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Chris.
- 16:59Speaker 1: That's six million per year less than the Bengals signed
- 17:03Speaker 1: boy Mafey for.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And that's a deal if you're the Seahawks.
- 17:07Speaker 1: You got a guy who you think can be a
- 17:09Speaker 1: better three down player, who supports the run better and
- 17:12Speaker 1: fits what Mike McDonald wants to do with an outside
- 17:14Speaker 1: linebacker better for six million dollars less per year.
- 17:19Speaker 2: And that's a win for Seattle too.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Definitely a win for this roster that is looking to
- 17:24Speaker 4: build something. They Mike McDonald the defense. They believe that
- 17:27Speaker 4: Derek Hall is He is going to be phenomenal for
- 17:30Speaker 4: years to come, and that's why they made that move.
- 17:33Speaker 3: It's no surprise.
- 17:34Speaker 4: We talked a little bit about it yesterday and some
- 17:36Speaker 4: of the plays that Derek Hall was able to make
- 17:39Speaker 4: and the reps that he got.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Boy Mafy had about.
- 17:42Speaker 4: One hundred snaps more, and yet Derek Hall was still
- 17:47Speaker 4: making impact plays on the same realm as Boya who
- 17:51Speaker 4: had more snap so here given this guy more opportunity
- 17:54Speaker 4: to play some good football with a good defense.
- 17:58Speaker 3: He seems to be a locker room guy that ayone
- 18:00Speaker 3: loved that.
- 18:01Speaker 4: I've never heard anything bad about Derek Hall, So you're
- 18:03Speaker 4: just keeping someone around that that fits what everything's going on.
- 18:06Speaker 4: Not to say that boy A didn't, but when you
- 18:09Speaker 4: look at where this team wants to go, they believe
- 18:12Speaker 4: Derek Hall is definitely someone they got to keep around.
- 18:14Speaker 3: And again, he's shown so many flashes he is.
- 18:17Speaker 4: He's really good. So I think it was a no brainer.
- 18:20Speaker 4: And I know a lot of people probably are like,
- 18:21Speaker 4: why would they pay him that much money? He only
- 18:23Speaker 4: had four sacks. Don't just look at the raw numbers.
- 18:26Speaker 4: There's more to it than just what he's done numbers wise.
- 18:30Speaker 4: You have to understand that he stops the run, which
- 18:33Speaker 4: is not a you don't see stats like, oh, he had,
- 18:35Speaker 4: you know, thirteen stops in a game or something crazy
- 18:38Speaker 4: like that, But that's what Derek Hall can do. He
- 18:40Speaker 4: can stop the run, he can get out for the quarterback. Hell,
- 18:42Speaker 4: he even drops in the coverage. I'm not saying he's
- 18:44Speaker 4: an elite at that or anything, but there are times
- 18:46Speaker 4: where Mike McDonald gets creative and he puts guys in
- 18:49Speaker 4: different positions, and I think Derek Hall just fits what
- 18:51Speaker 4: Mike McDonald in this defense wants to be and where
- 18:54Speaker 4: they're going.
- 18:55Speaker 1: They made their choice. It was Boy mafe or Derek Hall.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Is there outside linebacker the future they had drafted that
- 19:00Speaker 1: they wanted to re sign. This time last year, they
- 19:03Speaker 1: didn't know that they were still trying to make their choice.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Mafey was ending the final year of his contract OTA's
- 19:09Speaker 1: this time last year, twelve months ago, June twenty twenty five,
- 19:12Speaker 1: they didn't know who DeMarcus Lawrence was for them.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Really, he had.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Eleven previous years with the Cowboys as a defensive end.
- 19:19Speaker 1: They were trying him at outside linebacker during offseason practices
- 19:23Speaker 1: last year. Last year twenty twenty five, they weren't sure
- 19:25Speaker 1: what they had in him yet. Last year at this time,
- 19:28Speaker 1: they weren't sure how Byron Murphy was going to get
- 19:31Speaker 1: a bigger role.
- 19:32Speaker 2: How would they use him?
- 19:33Speaker 1: Was he able to rush the quarterback to stay on
- 19:36Speaker 1: the field on third downs. Mike McDonald really didn't know
- 19:38Speaker 1: how he was going to employ Nick Emon Worry as
- 19:41Speaker 1: a rookie. He had visions of Kyle Hamilton and using
- 19:44Speaker 1: him in multiple ways, but he didn't really know how
- 19:47Speaker 1: much nick Emon Warry in June of twenty twenty five
- 19:50Speaker 1: would be able to absorb in all that McDonald wanted
- 19:52Speaker 1: to use him when and then McDonald and John Schneider
- 19:56Speaker 1: were beginning the process twelve months ago of just trying
- 19:59Speaker 1: to decide what whether it be Reek Wallen or Josh
- 20:01Speaker 1: Job as the cornerback they wanted to resign beyond twenty
- 20:04Speaker 1: twenty five as the starter opposite of Devin Witherspoon. This
- 20:09Speaker 1: time last year, Drake Thomas and Tyle Cotter were special
- 20:12Speaker 1: teams players on the practice squad, no factors at all
- 20:14Speaker 1: in the defense on offense this time last year, Remember,
- 20:18Speaker 1: they had just traded Gino Smith and DK Metcalf. They
- 20:21Speaker 1: were a couple practices in in June to twenty twenty
- 20:24Speaker 1: five of Sam Donald being their new quarterback, and they hedged.
- 20:28Speaker 1: They so much didn't know what Sam Donald was that
- 20:30Speaker 1: they hedged and brought back Drew Locke on a two
- 20:33Speaker 1: year contract locks again back this year, but they brought
- 20:36Speaker 1: a starter, a veteran NFL starter back that had been
- 20:39Speaker 1: with the Seahawks for the years at the end of
- 20:42Speaker 1: the Gino Smith regime, and they brought him back because
- 20:45Speaker 1: they weren't sure what Sam Donald would be for them
- 20:47Speaker 1: twelve months ago. They weren't sure what Cooper Cup had
- 20:50Speaker 1: left after the Rams had discarded him in the offseason
- 20:53Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, Jackson, Smith and Jigba had never been
- 20:56Speaker 1: in the role he was entering this time last year
- 20:58Speaker 1: as a number one wide receive On the offensive line.
- 21:02Speaker 2: It's like night and day there.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Abe Lucas was still coming off a knee surgery this
- 21:06Speaker 1: time last year, not sure how healthy he'd stay at
- 21:09Speaker 1: right tackle. Charles Cross was entering the final year of
- 21:12Speaker 1: his contract at left tackle, and the Seahawks were trying
- 21:14Speaker 1: to decide whether he was a franchise cornerstone that they
- 21:17Speaker 1: wanted to resign at that position when they haven't done
- 21:20Speaker 1: that under the John Schneider regime. All that often then
- 21:24Speaker 1: inside an interior line this time last year, Guys gals
- 21:28Speaker 1: Ol with Timmy was the starting center for the Seahawks
- 21:30Speaker 1: in OTAs at twenty twenty five, and former Browns and
- 21:34Speaker 1: UW Husky center Nick Harris was signed from Cleveland to
- 21:37Speaker 1: challenge Oval.
- 21:38Speaker 2: With Timmy, those were the two at June of twenty
- 21:41Speaker 2: twenty five.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Those were the two centers that it looked like one
- 21:44Speaker 1: of the other were going to be starting last season.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Rookie Gray is able to yet to take an NFL
- 21:48Speaker 1: snap at left guard right guard Christian Haynes remember him.
- 21:54Speaker 1: He was battling.
- 21:55Speaker 2: With some twenty twenty four undrafted rookie.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Named Jalen Sundell at right guard with Anthony Bradford in
- 22:01Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five OTAs. Everyone was learning new line
- 22:05Speaker 1: coach John Benton's terminology is outside zone blocking system his
- 22:09Speaker 1: ways of teaching. Nobody had ever heard of Eric Salbert
- 22:13Speaker 1: out here except hardcore football people. The veteran former Chicago
- 22:17Speaker 1: Bears and Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco forty nine ers
- 22:20Speaker 1: journeyman tight.
- 22:20Speaker 2: End signed him.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Everyone didn't even notice that the Seahawks signed Eric Salbert
- 22:24Speaker 1: about this time last year. It was a lot this
- 22:28Speaker 1: time last year was going on OTAs in what was
- 22:30Speaker 1: unknown for Mike McDonald's second season as Seahawks coach. Now, well,
- 22:35Speaker 1: of course, the Seahawks know all about Delmarcus Lawrence. Absolutely
- 22:39Speaker 1: love him. He's a first time Super Bowl champion back
- 22:42Speaker 1: for his thirteenth NFL season, showed up last week for
- 22:46Speaker 1: voluntary OTA practices at age thirty four Byron Murphy's coming
- 22:50Speaker 1: off a breakout season, a stud tackle that McDonald can
- 22:53Speaker 1: now move up and down the defensive line against the run,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and his pass rush so much improved last year. The
- 23:00Speaker 1: in fact, we've talked at length about how he splits
- 23:02Speaker 1: double teams with a kettlebelt Turkish get up, kettlebul move
- 23:05Speaker 1: off the ground after dropping the one knee to break
- 23:08Speaker 1: up double teams. McDonald saw for himself that Mafey really
- 23:12Speaker 1: didn't fit his mold as an outside linebacker as much
- 23:14Speaker 1: as Derek Hall did, so the Seahawks let Mafey sign
- 23:17Speaker 1: with Cincinnati and March, and now they re signed Hall.
- 23:21Speaker 1: McDonald and Snyder have settled on Josh Job as their
- 23:23Speaker 1: starting cornerback opposite of Devin Witherspoon. They re signed Job
- 23:27Speaker 1: for four million dollars less per year than Woolan signed
- 23:29Speaker 1: with the Eagles in March, and another value deal. Tyocotta
- 23:33Speaker 1: Drake Thomas now now starters on defense at safety and
- 23:37Speaker 1: inside linebacker. Because they're so assignment sound. They did everything
- 23:41Speaker 1: right in training camp. Everything that McDonald asked them they
- 23:44Speaker 1: internalized and they executed and McDonald put them on the field.
- 23:48Speaker 1: The Seahawks return if you count Tyo Kotta, who started
- 23:53Speaker 1: quite a bit at safety when Julian Love was out
- 23:56Speaker 1: a couple months with the hamstring issue, and then a
- 23:57Speaker 1: couple games when Kobe Bryant was hurt. The Seahawks are
- 24:01Speaker 1: returning all eleven starters from that defense that allowed the
- 24:03Speaker 1: fewest points in the league last year. And even if
- 24:05Speaker 1: you say, well, Kobe Bryant was a starter he left
- 24:07Speaker 1: to sign with the Bears, that's ten ten and a
- 24:10Speaker 1: half starters counting Okada coming back to the number one
- 24:13Speaker 1: defense in the NFL. Offense Donald, of course undisputed quarterback
- 24:18Speaker 1: Super Bowl champion, on his way to earning a massive
- 24:20Speaker 1: new deal this time next year. He's still only twenty
- 24:24Speaker 1: eight years old. They have far more clarity in their
- 24:27Speaker 1: quarterback position now than they did twelve months ago. Obviously,
- 24:30Speaker 1: Cup is coming off of down year statistically, but he's
- 24:33Speaker 1: back again in his early to mid thirties as a
- 24:35Speaker 1: massive locker room presence. Smith and Jigba, NFL's reigning Offensive
- 24:41Speaker 1: Player of the Year and All Pro First Team All Pro,
- 24:44Speaker 1: Stepping out of Metcalf's shadow. He's newly minted with the
- 24:48Speaker 1: highest contract in NFL history for a wide receiver at
- 24:51Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty eight million dollars. The biggest difference
- 24:54Speaker 1: on this team, Chris, between last year and this year
- 24:57Speaker 1: is the offensive line settled, returning all five starters Sundell,
- 25:03Speaker 1: he didn't play right guard last year. He beat out Oval,
- 25:05Speaker 1: Timmy and Harris so much so the Harris traded. The
- 25:08Speaker 1: Seahawks traded Harris back to the Browns in the summer.
- 25:11Speaker 1: At the end of training camp. Sundell was the starting
- 25:13Speaker 1: center as an undrafted rookie from two years ago last year,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and he's returning as the starting center, starting next to
- 25:19Speaker 1: his college roommate at North Dakota State, Gray Zabel, who
- 25:23Speaker 1: was an absolute stud from day one last year. Bradford
- 25:26Speaker 1: is returning for his contract year at starting right guard,
- 25:29Speaker 1: may be challenged by rookie IOWA All American guard Bo Stevens,
- 25:33Speaker 1: the sixth fifth round pick.
- 25:34Speaker 2: More on that in a minute.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Cross and Lucas are healthy, re signed and rooted as
- 25:38Speaker 1: the bookend tackles for years, but John Benton is back
- 25:42Speaker 1: as the offensive line coach, and what I think was
- 25:44Speaker 1: the biggest coaching offseason move on this staff was bringing
- 25:47Speaker 1: John Benton back and how important that was. The clarity
- 25:50Speaker 1: and the singularity of outside zone. John Benton back for
- 25:54Speaker 1: a second year, and everybody now knows where they stand
- 25:57Speaker 1: with John Benton, and they understand his system and how
- 26:00Speaker 1: he goes about business. Eric Soberts returning indispensable tight end,
- 26:05Speaker 1: special teams player. He beat the Rams last season in
- 26:08Speaker 1: that second regular season game on the Thursday night with
- 26:10Speaker 1: a two point conversion that got the Seahawks the number
- 26:13Speaker 1: one seed for the playoffs. The Seahawks on offense are
- 26:17Speaker 1: returning every starting offensive player, except of course for Kenneth Walker,
- 26:22Speaker 1: who after the Super Bowl signed with the Chiefs as
- 26:26Speaker 1: a Super Bowl MVP. In all, this is remarkable for
- 26:30Speaker 1: a Super Bowl team in this era of player movement
- 26:34Speaker 1: of free agency. In all, the Seahawks have forty nine
- 26:38Speaker 1: of the fifty three players who are regulars on the
- 26:41Speaker 1: active roster are back. They lost Derek Young, punt gunner,
- 26:45Speaker 1: special teams guy, big wide receiver and free agency to
- 26:49Speaker 1: the Raiders. And that's about it. The mentioned Kobe Bryant,
- 26:54Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker, Rieke Woollen, Boy, Mafe, Derek Yeah, and that's it.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And now they've got you could say, twenty twenty of
- 27:06Speaker 1: twenty two starters coming back, and that is remarkable that
- 27:11Speaker 1: they did that. They put the emphasis on bringing back
- 27:13Speaker 1: Rashid shi He for fifty one million dollars. They put
- 27:16Speaker 1: the emphasis on boy Mafe, Jackson Smith and Jig. But
- 27:19Speaker 1: they're going to get Devin Witherspoon re signed here probably
- 27:22Speaker 1: the start of trading Camp Chris. They are reloaded. The
- 27:26Speaker 1: best team in the NFL, with the best defense in
- 27:28Speaker 1: the NFL is coming back almost entirely whole. Which is
- 27:31Speaker 1: why when the Rams make the moves they make that
- 27:33Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about with Nate Atkins at eleven o'clock
- 27:35Speaker 1: from the Athletic the Rams beat writer, Okay, come catch us.
- 27:38Speaker 1: If you're Seahawks, you're not so much concerned as maybe
- 27:42Speaker 1: you are flattered that the Rams are reloading to come
- 27:45Speaker 1: get you because you've himself. You're basically running it back
- 27:48Speaker 1: with almost the entire roster that won the Super Bowl
- 27:51Speaker 1: last year.
- 27:52Speaker 4: That just speaks to the organization and how they handle things.
- 27:56Speaker 4: I think they did a really good job of maintaining
- 27:58Speaker 4: and keeping some of the player that helped win a championship.
- 28:03Speaker 4: They could have obviously kept Kobe Bryant, and we can
- 28:05Speaker 4: go down a list of players that they probably could
- 28:09Speaker 4: have kept but decided to move on from. But the
- 28:10Speaker 4: front office believes that last year's success was sustainable and
- 28:15Speaker 4: it's not a fluke, and they have guys in the
- 28:17Speaker 4: building that are going to build on that. So I'm
- 28:21Speaker 4: excited to see the new players that are going to
- 28:24Speaker 4: come in and try to I don't want to say
- 28:28Speaker 4: fill a roll or a void, but there's going to
- 28:30Speaker 4: be challenges, right. I think tyle Katta is a player
- 28:33Speaker 4: that has proven that he could earn some snaps wherever
- 28:37Speaker 4: he's lined up because he's that talented, whether it's playing
- 28:40Speaker 4: deep safety or coming down in the box. I think
- 28:42Speaker 4: ty has proven that he can do it. He can
- 28:45Speaker 4: be versatile in this defense, and that's something you have
- 28:47Speaker 4: to be with Mike McDonald. You have to be able
- 28:49Speaker 4: to do a couple of different things and still be
- 28:51Speaker 4: really good at your first task, whatever position that is.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 28:55Speaker 3: So when you look at this roster.
- 28:57Speaker 4: It's good that they were able to bring back a
- 29:01Speaker 4: lot of these pieces to the puzzle, and now can
- 29:03Speaker 4: these pieces of the puzzle go out and have another
- 29:06Speaker 4: great elites side on defense as well as the offense
- 29:08Speaker 4: with a new OC because then there itself, that's a
- 29:11Speaker 4: challenge you have a new guy calm plays Although he
- 29:14Speaker 4: said he said all the right things, we'll know more
- 29:16Speaker 4: about it when we get the training camp and you
- 29:18Speaker 4: get to see this offense in full effect going against
- 29:20Speaker 4: the defense.
- 29:22Speaker 2: So what is left?
- 29:24Speaker 1: What are the battles here in OTA's and training camp?
- 29:27Speaker 1: What am I looking at when I go watch practice
- 29:29Speaker 1: today tomorrow and in training camp. We'll talk about that next.
- 29:32Speaker 1: We'll also talk about the viewing experience of watching Canada's
- 29:36Speaker 1: network for the Stanley Cup Final. You'll get an audio
- 29:38Speaker 1: glimpse of that when we return. Nate Atkins from Los
- 29:41Speaker 1: Angeles to Rams beat right to talk about Miles Garrett,
- 29:44Speaker 1: Eric Donald and how what the Rams are trying to
- 29:47Speaker 1: do to catch up and beat the Seahawks. All that's
- 29:49Speaker 1: coming up. Buy from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center, Seahawks
- 29:52Speaker 1: headquarters on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Welcome back the in living.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Color section of The Greg Best Show with Christopher Ken
- 30:08Speaker 1: rolls on here from the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renting.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I know some of you are like, who what is
- 30:16Speaker 1: in Living Color every time you play that intro. Answer
- 30:21Speaker 1: to the in Living Color in the early nineties, Jim Carrey,
- 30:23Speaker 1: The Wayne and Brothers, Rosie Perez, I'm not dating myself?
- 30:28Speaker 2: Am I with In Living Color? Chris?
- 30:30Speaker 4: I don't think so. I think our I think our
- 30:31Speaker 4: audience knows exactly what you're referring to.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Favorite party in Living Color four nine, four y five
- 30:36Speaker 1: one on the Comma Dodge text line favorite part, favorite
- 30:39Speaker 1: actor and actors set fireman Bill just to watch that
- 30:46Speaker 1: show religiously. It was on Sunday night on Fox. I
- 30:49Speaker 1: think it was right after before The Simpsons, way back
- 30:51Speaker 1: in the day in the nineties.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Four Comma Dodge text line, your favorite part.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Of In Living Color back in the day? Where I'm
- 31:00Speaker 1: out here at Seahawks headquarters because the OTAs are continuing
- 31:04Speaker 1: today and tomorrow. Ian Ferness will be with me at
- 31:07Speaker 1: eleven thirty or so before his show from twelve to three.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Also here from the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. After practice
- 31:12Speaker 1: today which ends around midday. Sam Donald's scheduled to talk.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Derek Hall was scheduled to talk to the media this
- 31:20Speaker 1: part of the training of the offseason. We're not allowed
- 31:22Speaker 1: into the locker room, which has ninety players on the
- 31:24Speaker 1: roster in it. So they bring players out to the
- 31:28Speaker 1: media outside and they hand pick them for you. So
- 31:30Speaker 1: it's not like open season. You could have talked to
- 31:32Speaker 1: anyone you want. And it looks like Sam Donald and
- 31:34Speaker 1: Derek Hall. Derek Hall just signing his three year contract
- 31:38Speaker 1: extension this morning, forty two million dollars twenty one million guaranteed.
- 31:43Speaker 2: So what do I watch? People ask me what do
- 31:44Speaker 2: I watch.
- 31:45Speaker 1: At June practices and T shirts and shorts and helmets?
- 31:49Speaker 2: What am I watching?
- 31:50Speaker 1: This Seahawk gotas we just spent the last segment detailing
- 31:52Speaker 1: how set they are at most positions. But there are
- 31:56Speaker 1: a couple things I'm watching. First, is Bo Stevens, the
- 31:59Speaker 1: rookie fifth round pay the All American guard, left guard
- 32:02Speaker 1: at Iowa, left guard the last two seasons for the
- 32:04Speaker 1: Hawkeyes right guard as a sophomore. The last time we
- 32:07Speaker 1: played on the right side, he was at right side.
- 32:10Speaker 1: At the beginning of off season practices last month, We've
- 32:13Speaker 1: been asking Mike McDonald which side is Bo Stevens going
- 32:17Speaker 1: to play on, because that's an indicator of whether he
- 32:19Speaker 1: pos Stevens, the rookie is in fact going to battle
- 32:22Speaker 1: Anthony Bradford for the right guard job because Gray's abel
- 32:25Speaker 1: Even Bo Stevens has said, I'm not playing left guard
- 32:28Speaker 1: because Great'sabeled pretty damn good at that position. So I'll
- 32:31Speaker 1: be watching today and tomorrow to see exactly where both
- 32:34Speaker 1: Stevens plays. I'm sure he'll be on the second team,
- 32:36Speaker 1: but will he be on the right side, expecting him
- 32:39Speaker 1: to be on the right side to potentially battle Bradford
- 32:42Speaker 1: during this season in Bradford's contract year. Maybe I'll be
- 32:46Speaker 1: watching the rookie second round pick Bud Clark and Tyle
- 32:49Speaker 1: Cotta and the starting safety job against Julian Love Clark.
- 32:54Speaker 1: For rookies, it's a little early, and especially in McDonald's
- 32:57Speaker 1: eNTRI get defensive system, for a rookie to just get
- 32:59Speaker 1: throw into the starting lineup, although Nick emn Worried did
- 33:02Speaker 1: that twelve months ago in June of twenty five in
- 33:05Speaker 1: OTAs I would expect if Kott is going to be
- 33:08Speaker 1: the first string center next to Julian Love while Bud
- 33:12Speaker 1: Clark learns the rest of the offense, But McDonald's likely
- 33:16Speaker 1: to move Clark around the defense just like Nick emn Worry,
- 33:18Speaker 1: so it'd be interesting to see as that training as
- 33:22Speaker 1: they get into training camp, where that battle goes. I'm
- 33:25Speaker 1: interested to see Jeremiah Pritchet, third year corner. Mike McDonald
- 33:29Speaker 1: has talked a lot about wanting to see more of
- 33:31Speaker 1: him and him getting more of an opportunity with Riek
- 33:34Speaker 1: wool And gone. Will McDonald go to a three cornerback
- 33:37Speaker 1: rotation if Pritchett shows that much to him during the summer,
- 33:41Speaker 1: would it be job and Witherspoon and Pritchet instead of Woolan.
- 33:45Speaker 1: That's when I want to see what Jeremiah Pritchett and
- 33:48Speaker 1: how they're using him. If they're using him with the
- 33:50Speaker 1: first team defense this summer, and then Jadarian Price obviously
- 33:55Speaker 1: stepping into the lead running back role as the rookie
- 33:57Speaker 1: first round pick. They can say all they want on
- 34:00Speaker 1: how it's a committee, but if they drafted him in
- 34:02Speaker 1: the first round, Chris, they intend for him to be
- 34:04Speaker 1: the starter. We'll see if that's right from the beginning
- 34:08Speaker 1: of training camp or not. But I'm going to be
- 34:10Speaker 1: keeping an eye on what kind of rotation they have
- 34:12Speaker 1: as a lead running back. How much is Emmanuel Wilson
- 34:15Speaker 1: they signed from Green Bay getting one reps, how much
- 34:17Speaker 1: is George Hallani and back again for his third season,
- 34:21Speaker 1: getting one reps. Of course, we're not going to see
- 34:23Speaker 1: Zach Sharbonnay and Kenny McIntosh maybe until into August. Both
- 34:27Speaker 1: are likely to start training camp on the pup list.
- 34:29Speaker 1: We'll see about McIntosh he's eleven months out from his
- 34:32Speaker 1: ACL tair. Much less of a recovery time so far
- 34:36Speaker 1: for Zach Sharbonet who just tore his knee in January
- 34:39Speaker 1: in that playoff game against the forty nine ers. But
- 34:42Speaker 1: those are the things I'm looking at during practices when
- 34:47Speaker 1: they aren't in full pads, to see rotations and what
- 34:50Speaker 1: plans might be, especially for the newer guys switching gears.
- 34:55Speaker 1: To the Stanley Cup finals last night, I did want
- 34:57Speaker 1: to throw this in because it was striking to me
- 35:00Speaker 1: sitting down and watch. First of all, they had an
- 35:02Speaker 1: opening montage on CBC Sports Net that was fabulous about
- 35:05Speaker 1: this being Canada's game, Canada's trophy, how revered the Stanley
- 35:10Speaker 1: Cup is in Canada, and then also ABC and ESPN
- 35:14Speaker 1: I thought had a really brilliant opening as well, talking
- 35:17Speaker 1: about how difficult it is to win this trophy, highlighting
- 35:20Speaker 1: Ray Borke playing twenty plus years in the NHL before
- 35:23Speaker 1: he finally won a Cup, and all the challenges and
- 35:27Speaker 1: moves and games and hits and injuries he Ray Borcad
- 35:31Speaker 1: before he finally won a Cup with Colorado in the
- 35:33Speaker 1: early two thousands. Philly Poignan reminders of the storied history
- 35:38Speaker 1: of the Stanley Cup and the Stanley Cup Finals. And
- 35:41Speaker 1: then I sit down to watch the game on CBC
- 35:43Speaker 1: sports Net channel ninety nine or six nineteen if you've
- 35:45Speaker 1: got Comcast cable here in Seattle.
- 35:48Speaker 2: And twenty five seconds in this is what I heard
- 35:51Speaker 2: watching the broadcast on CBC.
- 35:55Speaker 6: It's a clear forty five seconds in and the Hurricanes
- 36:06Speaker 6: are right come running. Can you talk about how it
- 36:10Speaker 6: would lighten your building?
- 36:11Speaker 2: Hair?
- 36:11Speaker 6: It's Nick Deelers taking advantage of the greats of bench
- 36:14Speaker 6: along the boards door. If he loses in barkershep can't
- 36:18Speaker 6: get it in in Theodore wait for the cup. But
- 36:20Speaker 6: to miss the put you body get the body instead
- 36:23Speaker 6: to speed it out your sea of Deelers.
- 36:27Speaker 1: You can hear the tink of the put going off
- 36:29Speaker 1: the post into the net. The audio alone, the crowd noise.
- 36:34Speaker 1: The difference between the American broadcast and the CBC sports
- 36:37Speaker 1: Net broadcast of the audio. Sports that could win an Emmy,
- 36:41Speaker 1: a Sports Emmy for the audio of their broadcast at
- 36:43Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup playoffs. It's incredible. It puts you right there.
- 36:47Speaker 1: That was Chris Cuthbert and Craig Simpson on the call
- 36:49Speaker 1: in Sportsnet CBC of the first goal for Carolina just
- 36:52Speaker 1: twenty five seconds into the game last night. Eeler's scoring
- 36:56Speaker 1: on a breakaway. But the sound, Chris, it's so it's
- 37:00Speaker 1: like you're in the building. And when I'm watching the
- 37:02Speaker 1: US I feel like I'm watching it from on top
- 37:04Speaker 1: of Mountaineer or something. It the sound and how it
- 37:08Speaker 1: puts you in the and that just adds to the
- 37:10Speaker 1: intensity of the broadcast. Again, if you haven't done it,
- 37:13Speaker 1: turn the channel ninety nine or six nineteen tomorrow night,
- 37:16Speaker 1: five o'clock Game two, or if you're not near television,
- 37:19Speaker 1: listen to the Game two of the Stanley Cup Final.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Here on ninety three point three kJ are Vegas leading
- 37:24Speaker 1: Carolina one game to none, with Game two and Raleigh
- 37:27Speaker 1: up next. Back to the NFL. Since I'm here at
- 37:29Speaker 1: Seahawks headquarters, let's talk about the Rams. Let's talk about
- 37:33Speaker 1: somebody who knows the Rams better than any of us do.
- 37:35Speaker 1: That's Nate Atkins. He's a beat writer for the Athletic
- 37:37Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. He's gonna talk about the Miles Garrett trade.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Is Aaron Donald coming back to reload the Rams even
- 37:43Speaker 1: more to beat the Seahawks. We'll talk to Nate Adkins
- 37:46Speaker 1: of the Athletic from the Rams Beat next on ninety
- 37:48Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM.
