Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, control your insolence and concentrate.
- 0:05It's time for most things, Kenobi.
- 0:20Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of Most Things Kenobi, a
- 0:24podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:27I'm your host, Leanne. And I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:31This episode we are revisiting, well, officially visiting
- 0:35because we've talked about it in so many different ways, but not
- 0:40in totality. And that would be the the Geon
- 0:43Ocean arc in The Clone Wars, which is just one of our
- 0:46favorites and we needed some Clone Wars time, so here we are.
- 0:51And honestly, were you watching landing at point Rain was so
- 0:56wonderful it. Was like going home.
- 1:00I'm so happy to rewatch it and like just live for everything in
- 1:05it, you know? It's so familiar and terrible.
- 1:13Like, like some of the shit that happens is really bad.
- 1:17I know it's up a bit, like I've always kind of cringed at it
- 1:21now, but now that I think of it, it was like, oh.
- 1:26The older that I get, the more obvious it becomes how freaking
- 1:31young they are. Like, you know, just bombing
- 1:35entire civilizations. I get it, I get it, it's a war
- 1:38factory, whatever, galaxies at war.
- 1:41But damn, Ahsoka is so young. I know she's in her little tube
- 1:45chop and Anakin's got a short flippy hair and.
- 1:49Yeah, yeah. You can tell he's a child
- 1:52because I shouldn't say child. You can tell he's a young adult
- 1:56because of where he ends up in Clone Wars and how Matt Lanter
- 2:01carries the character from the playfulness and the lack of
- 2:05seriousness, like Anakin serious in this.
- 2:09But his motivations are still like, I have to please the Jedi
- 2:13Council, I have to please Obi Wan, I have to show that I can
- 2:16do this. Like, it's pretty obvious.
- 2:19Yeah. You know.
- 2:21And he's still he still wants to be the best.
- 2:24Yeah, yeah, it's. So important to him, even though
- 2:27it's playful important, it's, it's like the beginnings of how
- 2:32it's going to not be playful anymore in the future.
- 2:35It's very much. Serious.
- 2:36Problem, yeah. And what's really sad and and so
- 2:41I'm like re watching this probably for the first time I
- 2:44think since the Kenobi series. And it's just.
- 2:47Me too, probably. It's it kind of hit me like just
- 2:53how good he would have been if shit hadn't gone the way it did.
- 2:59It just he, I mean, there's a lot of like bad juju there with
- 3:06the slavery upbringing and he was too old coming into the Jedi
- 3:10Order, etcetera, etcetera. Things about Anakin, right?
- 3:13The title of his of his. Things about it.
- 3:17Yeah, things about Anakin, A handbook.
- 3:20Like he could have been really, really good.
- 3:24He could have been really good. Yeah, I know these these early
- 3:29Clone Wars episodes have so much of his good characteristics.
- 3:33No, the episode right before this is that Rush Clovis
- 3:37episode. Oh shit, I I love.
- 3:42We need to do that one too, because I there's.
- 3:45Some one offs of the episodes. Yes, that because that shit.
- 3:49We can deep dive on that on all kinds of levels, but anywho,
- 3:54yeah, yeah, yeah. It was what really struck me
- 4:00this time because I actually just finished re listening to
- 4:04this podcast about D-Day. I listened to it last year
- 4:08because it was the was the 80th. Anniversary.
- 4:13Oh, shit. Yeah, it was, it was it.
- 4:15That was a recent one. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:17So this year in in June was 81 years since the landing at
- 4:22D-Day. So I re listened to the podcast
- 4:24because it was really excellent and it's a very good podcast and
- 4:28it really hit me how much they're pulling from D-Day in
- 4:34particular, but probably any invasion, but particularly D-Day
- 4:38for this episode in particular. It's kind of crazy and it's not
- 4:43on. It's not an accident.
- 4:45I mean sure, Lucas has said he was inspired by like Battle of
- 4:50Britain the movie and definitely Band of Brothers.
- 4:55And I checked Band of Brothers did come out before this
- 4:57episode. There's like a lot of
- 4:58cinematography that's the same there.
- 5:00So it's, it's cool. It was, you know, the first time
- 5:04all that stuff looked really intense in Clone Wars.
- 5:08Before that it was like kind of fun.
- 5:10And this time is the first time you feel like, oh, the Jedi
- 5:13might die. Yeah, it's it's what brought me
- 5:18right back into the episode was just how beautiful the imagery
- 5:22is of them coming in with the gunships.
- 5:25And who doesn't, OK, in the Star Wars fandom, who doesn't love
- 5:30the sounds of Star Wars? Yeah, you know, the laser fights
- 5:36and the lightsaber sounds and the gunship blast and, like Star
- 5:40Wars sounds. And it like brought me right
- 5:44back. And I was like, I remember why I
- 5:45like this series so much, because it's all those things,
- 5:50comforting things. Just the.
- 5:52Sounds of war, but I don't mean it to sound like that, but you
- 5:57know the the Star Wars sounds. I mean, it's Star Wars, correct?
- 6:03Yes, We seem to forget that part.
- 6:05We do, yes. So yes, war is a big part of of
- 6:10the Star Wars story. So yes, it's true.
- 6:13And it's so iconic. You know, it really is it is.
- 6:17And and this landing at point Reign episode, especially
- 6:19because it never was more obvious after having not watched
- 6:23it for for a while, I would say is that the whole episode is
- 6:27about them just trying to get on the ground.
- 6:31Yeah, like it's not there's it's a fucking mess.
- 6:36It's a mess. Yeah.
- 6:38And it was something again, that like the D-Day tie in to me
- 6:42because I was listening to the stories of the paratroopers who
- 6:46went in before the like, water landing and they get dropped
- 6:50behind enemy lines. Some of them landed in gliders.
- 6:53So you can't even control it. You just get launched out of a
- 6:57plane and just use glide to the ground and hope you don't hit a
- 7:00a light pole. And so they had to just survive
- 7:04the landing, which was really difficult.
- 7:07And then some of them had to immediately start fighting,
- 7:11which is what Anakin has to do. So it's right.
- 7:14Not only do you have to survive flying through the Flack, then
- 7:16you have to start fighting right away.
- 7:18And it doesn't stop until they have that one little break near
- 7:22the end. Yeah, that's.
- 7:25So much I get tired after one long day of work.
- 7:33This is true. What would happen to your
- 7:37nervous system having to live through something like that?
- 7:39Just the amount of adrenaline, adrenaline that is probably
- 7:43coursing through you at all times.
- 7:45The come down has to be hard. I don't know.
- 7:48Mad respect to anybody who's ever had to do it.
- 7:51Yeah, it's, it's intense. It's crazy.
- 7:54But it's very actually the whole episode is pretty intense.
- 7:59And there was a sequence that I'd never really like actively
- 8:03put it together because when we watch these to analyze, I kind
- 8:06of like, look more specifically at stuff.
- 8:09And there's a moment probably halfway through, Kiyati Mundi is
- 8:14in his cave with all these scary bugs.
- 8:17Anakin's on the wall, you know, fighting the droids.
- 8:19And Obi Wan is literally surrounded and they're being
- 8:22closed in on. And they show 1 after another
- 8:25and it's like, oh, they're all going to die.
- 8:27Like they eat and fry it. They're all just completely
- 8:31overwhelmed and yeah, they might not survive.
- 8:35And I'm pretty sure they went to a commercial break when this was
- 8:37on TV back in 2009 or whatever it was.
- 8:42That's so very reminiscent, isn't it?
- 8:45Like commercial breaks, Like what?
- 8:47I mean, I guess there's still commercial breaks in streaming
- 8:50services. But yeah, I mean.
- 8:53This was. The old fashioned.
- 8:55Network. Was that right?
- 8:57Or was it? I don't remember.
- 8:59I watched it on Netflix so I never saw it and it's.
- 9:02Original Cartoon Network. I want to say this.
- 9:06Oh my God. I whatever.
- 9:08It was a long time ago it was. I still remember walking up to
- 9:12my old like hometown theater and seeing the Clone Wars poster and
- 9:17thinking cartoons get out of here.
- 9:19Me too. I know you and I have talked
- 9:22about this, but like, yeah, I can't believe I was such a
- 9:25hater. I saw it at a shopping mall and
- 9:28I was like, are you kidding me? Exactly, there was a get out of
- 9:31here with this. You must Star Wars really hit
- 9:33rock bottom? Nope.
- 9:35Yeah, Little, no, little did we know is the greatest thing
- 9:38they're ever going. To do Yeah and we literally were
- 9:40begging for more. Save Clone Wars and I lost my
- 9:45voice for like 40 years straight after it was announced at Comic
- 9:49Con and we were there. That shit was nuts.
- 9:52Permanently. You know my weezy laugh that
- 9:54everybody has to comment on? It's because of the Clone Wars
- 9:58panel. It's Comic Con 2018, bitch it.
- 10:02Paralyzed one of your vocal cords permanently, I'm sure.
- 10:08Fuck anyway. I do love.
- 10:12I love like the way they set it up at the beginning.
- 10:16Nobody was like God can't believe first we have to come
- 10:19back here and then he right talks to Cody about being
- 10:22chained to a pole and being attacked by humongous monsters.
- 10:25The. First, yeah, it must have been
- 10:26entertaining for the Gian Oceans.
- 10:30Ohh Obi Wan. It's about to get worse
- 10:34apparently. Janosha or going to Janosha is
- 10:38like the equivalent of Obi Wan's hell.
- 10:41He just, every time he goes, he's got terrible things that
- 10:44happen. Always and and, and at least in
- 10:47this in this respect, Anakin was a little more well behaved and
- 10:52under some sort of discipline of self-discipline to.
- 10:57Yeah, because Padme. Wasn't there?
- 10:58Yeah, I know. I made it.
- 11:00I was actually thinking about this the whole time that I was
- 11:03watching this because of what what you just said, how they'd
- 11:06set up the timeline that this is obviously after Attack of the
- 11:09Clones and Obi Wan's been there, Anakin's been there.
- 11:13And I was just thinking like, God damn it, Padme, like.
- 11:18Yeah, Did I save Revenge of the Sith earlier?
- 11:21Because I definitely meant Attack of the Clones, if that's
- 11:23what. I don't know.
- 11:24I don't know what you meant. I don't know what you said
- 11:26because I have a headache. Harry menopause, I can't
- 11:29remember. Perry.
- 11:32Who's she? I will say that Obi Wan is once
- 11:37again for an animation, utterly breathtaking.
- 11:42I know you won't disagree. No, I will not disagree.
- 11:45I will stand on this hill and die on this.
- 11:47I will defending it because our. Favorite scene of Clone Wars?
- 11:52It still holds up. It does.
- 11:55It really does. It does not age, it does not
- 11:58ever get old. It's so nice to see I in the the
- 12:02few like breaths that he takes and then fires up that
- 12:06lightsaber. Man, it's good the details it.
- 12:13Hit me a lot more this time too, how they kind of cut from Anakin
- 12:17and Ahsoka kind of like still bantering and being kind of
- 12:20funny to Obi Wan's like literally about to die.
- 12:22Yeah, he's like, OK, this is it, my final stand.
- 12:25I will do this. I will fight with these men,
- 12:28which I I really do love all of the clone interaction and and I
- 12:33never really noticed in detail before the desert uniform if you
- 12:39will, and like a like a camouflage almost.
- 12:45Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I noticed that too.
- 12:47That's a nice touch they had the the helmets that are akin to
- 12:52scariff. Like the scariff helmets.
- 12:56I think I'm thinking of this correct.
- 12:57They're kind of square and more boxy than the the Oval shaped
- 13:01clones or the bell shaped clone helmets.
- 13:05I don't know. Maybe we should do an we should
- 13:08do an episode on on stormtrooper and clone attire and like what
- 13:14the difference because there's there's like the Hoth.
- 13:16There's so many. Troopers now yeah, yeah.
- 13:19So like we, that would be cool, but like, I for some reason I
- 13:22didn't really appreciate it. Or maybe I just took the tech
- 13:26because I was really trying to look for things that it's so
- 13:30easy to watch this episode and just fall in to.
- 13:34Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:36You know, it's so familiar. It's an old favorite and I find
- 13:40myself having to like, rewind it and be like, wait, I got to pay
- 13:43attention. Hold on.
- 13:45You know what I did notice for the first time and I had to look
- 13:48it up. Get ready for a meteorology
- 13:50lesson because here we go. So you know how the gunships are
- 13:55coming in and they're trying to land and they're like, get the
- 14:00get the ships on the ground now and then they radio and say no,
- 14:04don't land. It's a hot zone, Obi Wan.
- 14:06OK, so they're like flying around and there's like a series
- 14:10of three or four gunships that kind of go out in front and
- 14:14they're in formation and they have the the little like
- 14:18contrails that come off their wing tips.
- 14:21I'm sure people have seen this on airplanes when there's
- 14:24condensation that comes off the tips of the wings sometimes when
- 14:27you take off or when you land. So it's not technically
- 14:33physically correct. It's a cool, it's a cool
- 14:38animation effect and that's why I saw it.
- 14:42And I'm like, actually, this doesn't make sense.
- 14:44So in order during a dry desert climate like red rocks dust, not
- 14:51sand dunes, but like obviously I don't see a whole lot of water
- 14:55present. Yeah, no plants.
- 14:57Yeah, it's. Arid.
- 14:58No, no, nothing. Right?
- 15:00So we'll assume an arid climate. In order for that air to
- 15:06condense enough to make an aerodynamic contrail, such as
- 15:11those that we see coming off the wing tips, you have to have some
- 15:14moisture in order for the moisture to condense to form
- 15:17into those little those little trailing.
- 15:20Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, tubes that come off the
- 15:25It's not it's. It just looks good.
- 15:27It's just it looks. Fucking cool.
- 15:30And that's why I noticed it, because I'm like, oh, look at
- 15:33that. They have the aerodynamic
- 15:34contrails. Oh, wait.
- 15:36Is it possible that like the ship was freezing cold and that
- 15:41could have created it or? Maybe, but it would have been so
- 15:45short lived and then it wouldn't have made sense to make it even
- 15:48in an animation. So I'll just give them the
- 15:52credit for adding it because it's visually cool, but I'm just
- 15:55here to tell you that it's kind of not right.
- 15:58So I love that though like this, I love the.
- 16:01Science. It's great, though.
- 16:02Yeah, it's great. It's cool if you ever see an
- 16:04airplane take off and you see those aerodynamic like the tiny
- 16:08little contrails that come off the winglets, but.
- 16:11Yeah. You know.
- 16:12Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's funny because I actually
- 16:14watched like a scene of from Battle of Britain to to see like
- 16:18does it look like this? And again, actually very
- 16:21impressive for the time period. Oh, I bet.
- 16:24I was really impressed they had real planes flying in in
- 16:28sequences. But again, they can't show them
- 16:32crash so they do like what the Blue Angels do or the
- 16:35Thunderbirds do or when it gets shot like they release a gas.
- 16:38Out. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:40Looks like it's been hit and it's not real, but again like
- 16:44the planes weren't sending off those contrails unless it's like
- 16:49created because they were probably even temperature.
- 16:52Yeah, that's the thing. You have to.
- 16:54That's why it usually happens at takeoff and, and, and landing is
- 16:59because there's a change in pressure, like a dramatic change
- 17:01in pressure and temperature and all that stuff.
- 17:03So whatever, but. So interesting.
- 17:05Still looks cool. I had to look it up though.
- 17:07I'm like, is it possible in an arid climate?
- 17:09Is it? I'm like, I don't think it is.
- 17:11And then it was like, it's very rare to almost never that it
- 17:13happens. Like, you know.
- 17:15So here it happened on every single ship so.
- 17:17Every ship, every time, for a very long time.
- 17:20But it's cool, it's visually awesome, and I'm not here to
- 17:22shit on it. No, I love that you, you bring
- 17:26that like the science to it and it's great.
- 17:28It's really fascinating. I mean, I don't know.
- 17:32Just a little thing I noticed. But you know, aside from
- 17:35Anakin's brazenness and Obi Wan's beautifulness and Ahsoka's
- 17:40tube talk, there's also science. Well, I have to say, like this
- 17:48episode, and I'm sure we've talked about this before, it
- 17:52changed how I felt about oh. Yeah, totally, totally.
- 17:56Yeah, I'd. Like quite like him from the the
- 18:01original trilogy was fine. Like the prequels didn't really
- 18:06do much for me when they came out when I was a kid and and I
- 18:11felt like in season 1 he's kind of just like, oh, Anakin like
- 18:15the whole time and didn't really do much until like.
- 18:18Well, I mean, that's what the prequels kind of set him up for.
- 18:20But then we. Yes, yeah, yeah.
- 18:23And then here it was like, I think part of it is when his
- 18:28ship goes down because of course it part of it is like when he
- 18:31lights the lightsaber at the end, he is like ready to die
- 18:34with everybody. That's fucking awesome.
- 18:35But a huge part of it is when he screams.
- 18:38Brace yourselves. Yeah.
- 18:41And I went through the sequence again and like, analyze it
- 18:43cinematography wise because every time I watch it, it like
- 18:48gets me kind of anxious because of the way it's filmed, you
- 18:51know? Yeah, yeah.
- 18:53Cody says don't land and he's like, there's nowhere else to
- 18:55go. Then they yeah, there.
- 18:56Really. Isn't.
- 18:58Yeah, like what is he going to do, turn around and go back?
- 19:01Yeah. U-turn.
- 19:04This shit's happening. There's no stabbing it now and
- 19:08then they show the the enemy about to fire on them, their
- 19:12engine bursts into flames. And then he's like, we're going
- 19:15down. But when he says brace
- 19:17yourselves, they do this. They're in like a medium close
- 19:21up around his shoulders and they zoom in and it's basically his
- 19:24nose and eyes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:26And they've never implied that Obi Wan gets ruffled right?
- 19:32Like not to this point. That's true.
- 19:34Right, except when he was fighting Maul.
- 19:37In the prequels, yes, OK, but in the show Clone Wars, he's very
- 19:43even. He was always the same.
- 19:45He didn't have too much depth. He was kind of sassy and
- 19:49entertaining. But this was the first time
- 19:51where like the cinematography even implied that he was like
- 19:54overwhelmed that it was, oh God, this is kind of beyond my
- 19:58control moment. And that's like a big deal for a
- 20:02Jedi. And then the way they show his
- 20:05crash, like, I didn't really, like actively put it together.
- 20:10All three Jedi Masters, well, Anakin's not a master, sorry.
- 20:14But all three generals crash like they all crash like they
- 20:23do. Yeah.
- 20:24But Obi Wan's is the one that they show as though he might
- 20:28have died. Right.
- 20:30Because yeah, well, there's the thing of of like, where's Obi
- 20:35Wan as he radioed in? And then Anakin and Ahsoka have
- 20:39that moment where like Ahsoka is visibly shook.
- 20:42Yeah. And Anakin, I think is but has
- 20:47to play the part like he doesn't want to talk about it.
- 20:49He's like not available emotionally to talk about that.
- 20:53We have to keep pushing forward. Yeah.
- 20:56So it's assumed that something really bad happened, maybe.
- 21:01Here's my question to you. Oh no.
- 21:04What? Is Anakin matured from the first
- 21:08time he was on June Ocean? Do you know Sha?
- 21:11I can't say that planet name on the desert planet because like
- 21:18if it was Padme he would have freaked out and not been able to
- 21:22focus. So did he mature because of what
- 21:25happened last time or does he just not have that kind of
- 21:29devotion to Obi Wan that he does to Padme?
- 21:31Obviously it's not a romantic relationship.
- 21:34You know what I mean though. Well, the impression I got, and
- 21:39I thought about this while I was watching it because, you know,
- 21:42you've seen it 1000 times, but you're forcing yourself to think
- 21:44about things because you're going to talk about it on a
- 21:46podcast. But the implication I got is
- 21:51that Anakin can't handle loss and he wasn't about to handle it
- 21:56right there. And so he went into like father
- 22:02slash Big Brother slash master to to his Padawan.
- 22:10I know you're shooken up about this, but we have to push on or
- 22:12something. But that was him telling himself
- 22:14that, in my opinion. So would he have stopped the
- 22:19battle to go attend or to go tend to Padme?
- 22:25I hesitate because they were so overwhelmed.
- 22:28But he damn near stopped it for the blue shadow virus and he
- 22:32damn near stopped it for the fucking like XYZ moments.
- 22:36But this was a completely different situation where it was
- 22:39like a mission had an A point and AB point and it hinged on
- 22:46basically and it came getting to this point and the whole thing
- 22:51was so bad. So I don't know that he would
- 22:53have. But I do think when he was
- 22:55talking to Ahsoka, he was literally telling himself that
- 22:58via Ahsoka. That's the impression I get.
- 23:01What about you? What do you think?
- 23:03Like is there? I could maybe see it, but.
- 23:07I think so too. I think he was probably thinking
- 23:10more of like if it was Padme I, I don't know if you would.
- 23:16Have been so. Reassuring to Ahsoka, he
- 23:19probably would have been freaking out way more himself.
- 23:21Like Ahsoka would have reversed the role with him and she would
- 23:25have been comforting to him. Like don't worry she'll be fine
- 23:27she can take care of herself. I I see Ahsoka being that for
- 23:33for Anakin this. 12 year old grounding this adult who's
- 23:37losing his shit. You have to think about how far
- 23:41Ahsoka has come from this moment, like this little snippy
- 23:46padawan to this cool, calm, collected warrior who's seen
- 23:51some shit. Half of it is because she had to
- 23:55console her own fucking teacher. It's true.
- 24:00It's really true. There are so many moments, even
- 24:02in early episodes of Clone Wars, where she's like, hey, pay
- 24:07attention to me, I'm trying to tell you something important.
- 24:10Right. Yeah, yeah, it's that's
- 24:13interesting. I do laugh every time though,
- 24:16when she's like, well, this is another fine mess you've gotten
- 24:19us into. And Rex is standing right there.
- 24:21Like, are we really going to fucking fight right now?
- 24:26I know. Good Lord.
- 24:30He, poor Rex, is the monkey in the middle every single time for
- 24:35these two petulant young adult teens, tweens, whatever they
- 24:39are. Oh my.
- 24:40God, it's how old is Anakin at this point?
- 24:42Like 19? I don't.
- 24:45Where are we at with him? I would guess.
- 24:49Honestly I don't even know what his ages and revenge of this is
- 24:52so. I think it's I thought he was
- 24:5322. Let me look it up.
- 24:55God. Really.
- 24:56Holy shit that he is a child. Anakin is 22 years old and
- 25:01Revenge of the Sith, so he's about 1920 in this episode.
- 25:05Good God. How did I remember?
- 25:08That I don't know. I saw him.
- 25:15Again, so inappropriate. These people are so young.
- 25:18Well, I mean, it's just, that's the Jedi way, isn't it?
- 25:22I mean, they're teaching them how to fight when they're like
- 25:2510 year olds. It's true.
- 25:27It's. Very.
- 25:28I mean, remember the acolyte, how young they were.
- 25:32That's funny, you were reading my mind.
- 25:33I was literally just glazed. Over.
- 25:34Thinking about Acolyte, Yeah. And how young.
- 25:37Space twins. Oh, by the way, Speaking of
- 25:41Acolyte, it made me think of Yoda.
- 25:42You know how they're huddled at the beginning and all the
- 25:44holograms are there and Yoda's like kind of elevated to be eye
- 25:50level with the others, so he must be standing on like a
- 25:52platform or something? No, I never noticed that.
- 25:55Before little hover platform that he travels around the the
- 25:58temple and because he can't keep up with people walking.
- 26:01I love it so much though. Oh.
- 26:03My God, Chiati Mundi is such a wet blanket.
- 26:10Do you know who he reminded me of in this episode and I've
- 26:13never thought of it before? Who?
- 26:16Colonel Sanders. I thought you were going to say.
- 26:23It how are you? I had no expectation except not
- 26:29Colonel Sanders. Oh, OK.
- 26:30Well, K, the KFC King himself, he if he'd have just had the
- 26:35little, the little bolo tie or whatever, he's got the little
- 26:38black little bow tie. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:40He looked like Colonel Sanders, you know, with. 17 forehead.
- 26:44Forehead. Yeah, it was like 50.
- 26:49He is a wet blanket though. He's a wet paper towel.
- 26:52I won't even give him substance. So it's a blanket.
- 26:56He's not got the substance of a blanket.
- 26:58Yeah, just, but I mean always when like every time I watch
- 27:02this and. There is no such thing as look
- 27:07like shut up, no one ask what an.
- 27:08Asshole thing to say, you don't have to.
- 27:11Be such a pretty. It's kind of it's kind of like a
- 27:13boomer statement, though. He's kind of a boomer like like
- 27:16Obi Wan is the is the what do I want to say?
- 27:20Like the the more polished middle-aged man.
- 27:24He's us. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:27A little bit jaded, a little bit polished, a little bit kind.
- 27:29Of a millennial where he's like, sometimes you're like, wow, he's
- 27:33really cool. And other times you're like,
- 27:35he's a little bit old. Yeah, yeah, well stated.
- 27:40I relate. I relate as well, you know, so I
- 27:44mean, it's comparing the two adults, if you will.
- 27:48But then there's there's also my my favorite.
- 27:52I was going to say. What's her name, Gentlemen, if
- 27:56we could get on with the show. You know she's Luminari.
- 28:00Yeah, I don't. I can't even remember her name.
- 28:02Like nothing against the voice actress, but literally nothing
- 28:08against anything. I just her and Barras rubbed me
- 28:12The which is the next episode. We'll get there, but you know.
- 28:16But I like how she has to interrupt, like the pissing
- 28:18contest that's going on. It's like, gentlemen, can we
- 28:21just focus up here? It did look like old Palpatine
- 28:24was smiling to himself, kind of chuckling, wasn't he?
- 28:26He was kind of amused by the whole thing 'cause this, this is
- 28:29all just his big ruse, this is all his.
- 28:32Oh gentlemen, should we be sending 3 Jedi Bitch that shit
- 28:35plan? Don't act Academy award-winning
- 28:39actor of the year here. Totally.
- 28:42Always performing No. Matter what, I'm actually
- 28:45surprised he didn't find a reason to send Padme to piss Obi
- 28:50Wan off to set Anakin on some sort of path, you know what I'm
- 28:54saying? Yeah, yeah, he's done it before.
- 28:58He's. Doing it again.
- 29:00Yeah, it's true. God, yeah, there was.
- 29:04There is some stuff in here that I've forgotten how, like.
- 29:08What? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:10Oh yeah. Like like the the bugs getting
- 29:11set on fire. Yes, exactly.
- 29:16That's what you do to a hive. Well, and I was just, the other
- 29:20thing about this is usually in Clone Wars they're fighting
- 29:24droids. This is one of the few times
- 29:26they're fighting living beings. Yeah, and.
- 29:29Keeping score like it's a game and that I was like at the end
- 29:36when Anakin says 55, Ahsoka says 60, Kiara Mundi is 65 and Obi
- 29:42Wan is like I'll never understand you creeps keeping
- 29:45school killing people. Relatable.
- 29:51Yeah, forever annoyed by the nonsense.
- 29:55And again, it's like, those were living things that you killed.
- 29:59Yeah, they were trying to kill you.
- 30:01OK, fine. But also like, could we not make
- 30:03it a game that's so icky? Really think about all the
- 30:06clones that died as well trying to fight these things.
- 30:09Like, let's not, you know? A lot, Yeah, a lot.
- 30:13I mean like in that moment where Obi Wan's getting overwhelmed
- 30:16and everyone's, he only has 8 clones around him, that's all.
- 30:21And then the reinforcements arrive.
- 30:22So yeah, like the losses were great.
- 30:25Did it occur to you even after watching and or like you, Lauren
- 30:30Kind of it's kind of it's kind of ruining you, Lauren.
- 30:33It's sad, isn't it? It's.
- 30:35Sad. Yeah.
- 30:35It makes it really hard to watch it now.
- 30:38Yeah. I found it funny though that he
- 30:41would not help until Anakin. Darth.
- 30:43Vader Right, right, right. Though he was hinging the whole
- 30:48fucking thing on Anakin and I'm not sure that's appropriate.
- 30:51Yeah, yeah, Anakin says. We're at the breaking point and
- 30:55he's like, well, you're in luck. I've been working this whole
- 30:58time to come save your ass. Yeah, give me a raise later.
- 31:02Like, get out of here. But I I I do like, love that.
- 31:11The idea that we have this general, is he a general
- 31:16Admiral? Yeah, obviously he's a fucking
- 31:19Admiral. It's in his name.
- 31:21But they have this Admiral who's going to, like, basically turn
- 31:24his back on absolutely everyone that he's currently like.
- 31:28Oh. Yeah.
- 31:29Really unsettling. And he won't be the only one.
- 31:34It's really dark. I mean, even the clones, by the
- 31:36time, you know, we're in Andor's period, he the clones are like
- 31:41being killed off basically. At that point, they're mostly
- 31:45all gone and it's all stories. He's worked with them.
- 31:48I mean, he's I just don't understand that mindset.
- 31:51I don't know, I. Don't know if it's brainwashing
- 31:54or survivalism or whatever the fuck it was.
- 31:57It's a dark. It's dark.
- 31:59I would love to think it's survivalism like he is just he's
- 32:02an Admiral and it doesn't matter who he works for and he's going
- 32:05to do it because otherwise they'll kill him.
- 32:07Like maybe as a family we don't know about.
- 32:09I don't know, Yeah. He seems like so severe though,
- 32:13and in and or he was so like ready to instigate those, you
- 32:18know, new, I don't know if you can call them laws, but you know
- 32:20the statutes that allowed them to just imprison people
- 32:23indefinitely, like triple their their prison time and.
- 32:27Yeah. It's pretty fucked up.
- 32:29That's crazy. Yeah.
- 32:31So watching more Star Wars media does reflect on me whenever I
- 32:38watch old Star Wars media, but not not too much.
- 32:41It's there though. Even the smallest thing like
- 32:44making that character and, and or just deciding that will be
- 32:47your Lauren now reframes a lot of the scenes that he's in in
- 32:51Clone Wars. It's unavoidable.
- 32:53So I just wish Star Wars would give that a little more thought
- 32:56before they start doing this shit all the time.
- 32:58I know, I know. This one is not like the worst
- 33:02thing ever. I thought I, I also thought
- 33:05about the rocks falling like the wall explodes and all the rocks
- 33:09fall down. And that's essentially what what
- 33:12Vader does to imprison Obi Wan in the last, you know, the last
- 33:19confrontation of in the Kenobi series, There's Brox.
- 33:23Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And there's a lot of lot of
- 33:26rocks going on. And I, and I had that vision of
- 33:28like, oh, look at, look at Anakin pushing them away from
- 33:32Rex. Yeah, he uses a different method
- 33:36later. Yeah, different method.
- 33:39You know what I kind of loved even like the first time ever
- 33:41watching this is that I started to realize Clone Wars was going
- 33:45to like use genre to tell some stories and this one was like a
- 33:51war story, But also they had like little elements of horror
- 33:55in there. And the next couple episodes
- 33:57have more like sci-fi horror. Very true.
- 34:01And it's really interesting. I mean they had like the blue
- 34:03shadow virus is a great example of like health pandemic type
- 34:10thriller. And they, I feel like there's
- 34:13got to be like a cowboy something, don't you?
- 34:16Is there like one that I mean, obviously now tales of the
- 34:19underworld, as we discussed last time.
- 34:22There's. Some Cowboys, sure.
- 34:24There is. I just can't.
- 34:26I can't. There's so many.
- 34:27Yeah. I don't know, there probably is.
- 34:30And I don't feel like they kept that going.
- 34:32I, I think that they were just exploring in these early
- 34:36seasons. You know this is just Season 2.
- 34:39Yeah, I find it so. Refreshing that they decided to
- 34:42use some horror elements very gently.
- 34:45You know, it's a kids show, but it really, I think, respects the
- 34:51audience because I'm sure they assumed it was going to be kids
- 34:54watching this, but it's so well done that it's really fun for
- 34:57adults to watch it too. Yeah, and that's why the show is
- 35:01brilliant. That's why we're all here.
- 35:04And I I really think that maybe the secret ingredient was George
- 35:08Lucas. Always he.
- 35:13Produced Indiana Jones like he knows how to make a very
- 35:17satisfying blockbuster. He does We're.
- 35:20So short these 20 minutes that he could like you really knew
- 35:23how to put a lot into a short period.
- 35:25And Dave Filoni said that he Dave would like write all these
- 35:28ideas and George would just like X out all the stuff.
- 35:31He just was like Nope Nope Nope. Then like really forced them to
- 35:34focus. I think maybe Dave could use
- 35:38some of that right now. Yeah, I feel like the newer
- 35:41stuff is really missing that. There's no harm in saying that.
- 35:44Yeah, yeah. But it's really at least we have
- 35:48this to go back to. We do.
- 35:50I mean, it's timeless. It it has given us the the meat
- 35:57that we needed from basically Attack of the Clones to Revenge
- 36:01of the Sith and and and onward. Yeah.
- 36:04You know, it filled so many gaps.
- 36:07I don't know. It's just I'm glad we have it.
- 36:10Me too, and also you get your scene with Anakin.
- 36:13Remember when it flips under the I remember deca Droid or
- 36:17whatever and it's. Right up the crotch, happiness.
- 36:21As soon as I saw it, I was like, Oh yeah, Leanne's favorite.
- 36:24Shot I was happy to rewatch that it was very inappropriate and
- 36:30I'm here still here for it, still here for it.
- 36:32I don't care if he's 19, he's a dumb.
- 36:34Shit works really well because you can like deep dive into it
- 36:38or just enjoy it for cheap beauty and.
- 36:41Well, don't forget the the piece of blood.
- 36:44The scratch on Obi Wan's face is so elegant, it really is even
- 36:50his scratches. Are beautifully.
- 36:52On cheekbones like that, you know, and and James Arnold
- 36:59Taylor, it's so funny like knowing that that's him and
- 37:04knowing like what a great guy he is and how cool he is with us
- 37:07and you know how friendly and kind he's been and then there he
- 37:11is just being serious. Obi Wan.
- 37:12I love it. I love it.
- 37:13It's just cool. I was.
- 37:15Thinking that too actually when re watching because even his
- 37:18first line when he says I cannot believe we're back here again,
- 37:20it's like right away. They've already given Obi Wan
- 37:23more depth and James just like brings it to life so perfectly.
- 37:28And it's like, for me, in my opinion, it's like a jumping off
- 37:31point. And now like a few episodes
- 37:33later, you get the Duchess of Mandalore arc.
- 37:35And then after that, you start to like, Mole gets reintroduced
- 37:40and it's just his layers get more and more complex.
- 37:43And I'm so glad they did that with this character and that
- 37:47they had James to perform. Anybody else, it might not have
- 37:50been quite the same. I wanted to ask you if you had
- 37:53the same feeling I did. And I know we probably have
- 37:56talked about this, but don't you just love it when they're all
- 38:01back together? Like everyone's at the meeting
- 38:03point with Obi Wan and Obi Wan still sitting on the ground and
- 38:07still mapping out how they're going to attack.
- 38:11And like they're still counting on him to do this and he's still
- 38:15doing it even though he's obviously injured.
- 38:17I like, I love that. I do too, and I love when
- 38:21they're like, are you injured, General?
- 38:22He's like, nothing too serious. It's like clearly just some
- 38:25internal bleeding and a crushed pelvis, but I'm fine.
- 38:29Just give me a little shot, I'll be fine.
- 38:33Oh I I do love the shot in the neck.
- 38:35It's totally unnecessary, but it adds an element to it like it's.
- 38:38Cool. It's kind of like a morphine
- 38:40shot or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:42Drug them up. Yep.
- 38:44Right before he has to look at a map and tell you where to go.
- 38:48He'll be fine. You can trust his advice, I
- 38:49promise. Totally.
- 38:52Yeah, I know. I've always liked that.
- 38:53But he's like clearly so injured he has to do the briefing
- 38:56sitting down, which he's never. Done and then, but he's still in
- 39:01it. I know all the way dedicated.
- 39:03And the way he's sitting there just like totally wasted and
- 39:07exhausted, but right before they, like, run up to him, they
- 39:10never show him like that ever. That's true.
- 39:14That's true. It's the very first time, isn't
- 39:16it? Like totally rare to see blood
- 39:18up until this point. In Star Wars, almost never do
- 39:22you see? Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 39:23Now, in the sequels, they've shown it like when Finn gets the
- 39:28bloody handprint, that was like, oh, yeah, oh, this is going to
- 39:30be, like, different Star Wars. But before that, there was
- 39:33almost no blood because lightsabers and blaster burns.
- 39:36Just cauterized, but you don't have to bleed.
- 39:40But he got crushed in an accident, like a car crash.
- 39:45Well, not a car, but a landing craft.
- 39:48Yeah, crash. That's really hard to say.
- 39:50That is hard. Well, do you have any final
- 39:54thoughts? I I do want to mention one thing
- 39:58because it was so fucking awesome and it really stood out
- 40:01to me the very first time I ever watched it.
- 40:03Oh, I'm intrigued. The sequence when Anakin and
- 40:06Ahsoka lead the attack at the very end after Obi Wan gives the
- 40:09briefing, Anakin's running and they just show this extended
- 40:13sequence of them running through the desert all the way and the
- 40:16camera doesn't. There's no cuts.
- 40:17And then the camera comes up behind them and follows them in
- 40:20at the very end. It's just so fucking cool.
- 40:23Yeah, for animation is that's pretty, that's pretty good.
- 40:27It's. Awesome.
- 40:29What year was? This now this one was 2009.
- 40:33I looked it up. That's.
- 40:34Pretty. That's pretty good for two.
- 40:36I mean that's pretty good for 2000.
- 40:37All of this is honestly, I know it's not technically that long
- 40:41ago, but the technology has advanced so much.
- 40:45Yeah, it is a cool. Shot.
- 40:49And then they have more atmosphere, there's smoke there,
- 40:52like you said, the contrails, all these little details they
- 40:55start to like, really bring in. To me, this was a turning point
- 40:59for their animation and a turning point for character
- 41:03development. And that's why Landing a Point
- 41:05Rain has always been one of my favorite episodes.
- 41:07It's just so, so well done. It really is.
- 41:11And I know it's a lot of like fighting in battle and blah,
- 41:14blah, blah, but it's, it's really well executed.
- 41:19Yeah, and. Sets the stage for the next
- 41:20three episodes, which we're going to cover.
- 41:22Is it 3 episodes? Yeah, it's a four part.
- 41:25Yeah. It's a big one.
- 41:27Sometimes when it's all fighting it's boring, but somehow this
- 41:31because in the fighting it's really about other stuff that's
- 41:34going on between Anika and Ahsoka and Rex and Keanu Mundi
- 41:37is I wouldn't give him that much depths to be honest.
- 41:42And like stuff that's going on with with Obi Wan, especially at
- 41:45the landing point, like there's a lot more going on than just
- 41:49bombs going off, you know? And like you said, it lays the
- 41:52foundation for what comes next. And it's 20 minutes of of lots
- 41:59of fun. It's really just fun.
- 42:01Yeah, we get, we get a lot of Cody and Rex too.
- 42:05You know season 2 Cody and Rex is.
- 42:07A little banter between Cody and everyone and yeah.
- 42:11Yeah, it's pretty good. It's got all the, it's got all
- 42:13the things. It's a really, really good
- 42:15episode and a really great jumping off point for so much
- 42:18more. Just like you said, I love it.
- 42:20Can't wait for the next episode. I know, me too.
- 42:29Our question to you for this episode is if you could pick
- 42:32just one scene that you love from this episode, what is your
- 42:35favorite scene? It could be a line, it could be
- 42:38a whole like moment, it could be a shot, you know, a still shot.
- 42:44What is your favorite moment of the episode?
- 42:45Let us know because we just told you all of ours.
- 42:48It's only fair. And join us back here next time
- 42:54we're going to do the next episode in this arc, which is

- 42:59conversation about bears and Ahsoka Leanne.
- 43:02Oh, yeah. Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 43:04I'm ready. I'm ready.
- 43:06I'm good. There's some, there's actually
- 43:08some great creepy stuff that happens in this next episode, so
- 43:12I'm excited to talk about. There is, there is so.
