- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Up next to you
- 0:06Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way, it's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 2: and Joakim on the shock circuit.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Good morning. Welcome to the show and we're here in
- 0:14Speaker 2: the middle of
- 0:15Speaker 2: the week.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Woo! And maybe in just a while, Sonia and I
- 0:18Speaker 1: can share as much as we can about the Michael movie. Sonia,
- 0:23Speaker 2: I'm very excited. Exactly. Last night just with the 987 crew,
- 0:27Speaker 2: Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 2: This morning, Joakim has disappeared for quite some time. He
- 0:35Speaker 2: went to, he said he went to get breakfast. I
- 0:37Speaker 2: don't know where he went, to be honest. It's been
- 0:39Speaker 2: like almost 10 minutes. That's why we were silent for
- 0:42Speaker 2: a bit.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna text him and find out if he's doing
- 0:45Speaker 2: OK or did the vending machine swallow him up, but
- 0:48Speaker 2: we really wanted to tell you how last night went
- 0:51Speaker 2: with a bunch of our listeners at the beautiful new
- 0:55Speaker 2: Premiere Theater over at Shawlido. It was so awesome.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Honestly, it was my first time experiencing that particular theater
- 1:03Speaker 2: and uh I'm going back again, that's for sure. And
- 1:05Speaker 2: Sonia and finally Joakim is back. What happened to you, bro?
- 1:08Speaker 2: What happened? I'm so sorry. Where did you go? You
- 1:10Speaker 2: said you went to get breakfast. I was speculating if
- 1:12Speaker 2: the vending machine got you. One of
- 1:14Speaker 1: those days where I was a bit indecisive, couldn't decide
- 1:17Speaker 1: what to eat because for these 4 vending machines.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I was just gonna say we only have vending machines
- 1:23Speaker 2: to choose from at this time that we
- 1:24Speaker 1: frequent here in our office. We've been there a million
- 1:27Speaker 1: times already.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, we, we
- 1:28Speaker 2: honestly, OK, Joakim and I have this tradition where, I mean,
- 1:33Speaker 2: we used to do it, but now I gave up
- 1:35Speaker 2: on the vending machines. We would go to the vending
- 1:37Speaker 2: machine on either the 1st floor or the 9th floor.
- 1:39Speaker 2: My preference is the 9th floor, and I will go
- 1:42Speaker 2: in manifesting new stuff in the vending machine.
- 1:47Speaker 2: More often than not we're disappointed there's no new stuff there.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It's the same stuff,
- 1:51Speaker 2: different day. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So I settled with my hot sandwich again.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Oh, OK, yeah, you should be the ambassador by now actually. Actually, yes,
- 1:59Speaker 2: I think you're the only dude buying from there at
- 2:01Speaker 2: this time of
- 2:02Speaker 2: the morning.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Whenever they see a spike in sales, somebody in the
- 2:05Speaker 1: office is going, I must be joking.
- 2:08Speaker 2: And I shared with you before, right, that I've met
- 2:10Speaker 2: the owner of Hot Bakes.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, he's actually a really funny dude. The
- 2:14Speaker 1: circuit sponsored by Hot Bakes.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Does it work?
- 2:18Speaker 2: I mean, we can make anything work I don't I
- 2:20Speaker 2: don't mind.
- 2:21Speaker 1: We are here, you know, word on the streets is
- 2:25Speaker 1: here in Singapore at least people are kind of split
- 2:29Speaker 1: about this whole meta glasses being available in our country.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Sorry, I am a user of the Ray-Ban glasses.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I mean when it comes to you, I, I trust
- 2:39Speaker 1: you and I know you use it for.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're not going to breach anyone's privacy.
- 2:45Speaker 2: OK, so the thing is, I know that for the
- 2:47Speaker 2: longest time, it wasn't available in Singapore because of that fact.
- 2:51Speaker 2: It was long available in other countries. In fact, a
- 2:54Speaker 2: couple of years back when I was in the US,
- 2:56Speaker 2: my friends actually went to buy um when we were
- 2:58Speaker 2: in New York and stuff, and they experimented with it
- 3:00Speaker 2: and all, but now that it's readily available here in Singapore,
- 3:03Speaker 2: I believe it's just been released like 2 days ago.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Um, I would have to say that the light is
- 3:09Speaker 2: pretty obvious though, the light on the glasses when you
- 3:12Speaker 2: start recording.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. When we come back here on the circuit,
- 3:15Speaker 1: find out what people on TikTok, on threads, and even
- 3:19Speaker 1: I call him the godfather of the Singapore Twitter space, Mr.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Brown has said about the AI glasses being made available
- 3:26Speaker 1: here in Singapore.
- 3:27Speaker 2: OK, sure. Is it good or bad or is it mixed?
- 3:29Speaker 2: You split, it's split.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It's.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I mean, I already know that there are people saying, hey,
- 3:33Speaker 2: this side you can buy the sticker to like hide
- 3:37Speaker 2: the light or something. I'm like, guys, why do that? Why?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Eyeglasses, more specifically the Meta AI glasses,
- 3:45Speaker 2: all the rage now,
- 3:46Speaker 1: whether it's Ray-Ban or Oakley, it's taken over the world.
- 3:50Speaker 1: People are talking about it and I'm even considering.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Get a pair from the Oakley ones, I think it
- 3:55Speaker 1: will really help with running content. I don't have to
- 3:59Speaker 1: carry my phone anymore and film myself on the route.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I can just wear it and film the route and
- 4:04Speaker 1: maybe do a voiceover commentary, which is great. But on
- 4:07Speaker 1: social media, TikTok threads, and maybe even Twitter, some Singaporeans
- 4:12Speaker 1: are saying, 00, the Chikope are celebrating.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Which, which, honestly, I'm a little bit worried as well.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I don't know how feasible the, the light is to
- 4:24Speaker 1: let people know that you're filming, but apparently on Meta's website,
- 4:28Speaker 1: they say that if the light is covered, you cannot
- 4:31Speaker 1: film anything until you uncover the light. But I don't
- 4:35Speaker 1: know whether people find a way around it because people
- 4:38Speaker 1: are worried that, hey, you know, with so much of
- 4:40Speaker 1: voyeurism cases here in Singapore with the phones already.
- 4:43Speaker 1: With these AI glasses that can film things but just
- 4:46Speaker 1: wearing that on your eyes and people might not know
- 4:48Speaker 1: you're filming, what's gonna happen?
- 4:51Speaker 2: You know what, I think they had to think about
- 4:53Speaker 2: this very carefully before actually passing the laws here in
- 4:57Speaker 2: Singapore to release it. But that's why I mentioned it was,
- 5:00Speaker 2: it took a long time for it to be released
- 5:02Speaker 2: here in Singapore, right? So I wonder, and I wonder
- 5:05Speaker 2: whether who around here, is there a task force that
- 5:07Speaker 2: can answer this question?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Because look, the, the fact is we are quite behind
- 5:13Speaker 2: the world, you know. The world has released it years ago.
- 5:17Speaker 2: So who's the one that can answer us on all
- 5:19Speaker 2: these questions, like privacy
- 5:21Speaker 2: questions?
- 5:21Speaker 1: I mean, I don't want to sound as if it's
- 5:24Speaker 1: very gender specific. Yeah, but, but, but to my sisters
- 5:28Speaker 1: here in Singapore, I guess now that the Meta AI
- 5:31Speaker 1: glasses have become.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Prevalent here in our country. I think it's available as
- 5:34Speaker 1: of Monday, April 20th. Just, just, just be wary of
- 5:38Speaker 1: your surroundings just in case.
- 5:40Speaker 2: So, so one thing I want to share that I
- 5:42Speaker 2: thought was really cool for it. Um, I, I actually
- 5:45Speaker 2: got it quite early. So I mean, a few days
- 5:48Speaker 2: earlier ahead of the release date. So I decided to
- 5:50Speaker 2: bring it out for a test run over at a
- 5:52Speaker 2: music festival on Saturday. OK. And what I thought was
- 5:55Speaker 2: great was that I did not take out my phone
- 5:57Speaker 2: a single time. Great. Because, you know, you know the
- 6:01Speaker 2: whole debate about
- 6:02Speaker 2: Um, your concert experience and how people get so annoyed.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Sometimes even the artists and the bands get annoyed that
- 6:08Speaker 2: all people do, you know, they just put their phones
- 6:10Speaker 2: up and record the entire thing, right? Nothing wrong with recording.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's up to you how you want to
- 6:15Speaker 2: have your concert experience, but we always love to see
- 6:17Speaker 2: people immersed in the moment, really enjoy the music, right?
- 6:20Speaker 2: And I realized that with the Meta glasses, mine, mine
- 6:23Speaker 2: are the Ray-Ban pair, the one that Jenny wears, very cool. Um, I,
- 6:28Speaker 2: I was just
- 6:29Speaker 2: Really fully in the set. I didn't even take out
- 6:31Speaker 2: my phone a single time. I looked back at the footage.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I was laughing because my friends were having so much
- 6:35Speaker 2: fun in my footage. The only thing was that I
- 6:37Speaker 2: wasn't really in the footage, but except for the one
- 6:39Speaker 2: time my friend took my glasses and then she was like, Here, go,
- 6:42Speaker 2: go and go and be in the footage for a while. Actually,
- 6:45Speaker 1: can you remove your glasses? You can press the button
- 6:48Speaker 1: to record yourself. You could.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I didn't try that, but, um, my friend actually wore it. So,
- 6:53Speaker 2: you know, it's, it's more accurate like when.
- 6:55Speaker 2: You see someone face to face. OK, beautiful. It was
- 6:57Speaker 2: really cool. Honestly, I, I want to show you some
- 6:59Speaker 2: of the footage that I, I got actually. Now
- 7:01Speaker 1: my next question is this for future concerts here in Singapore,
- 7:04Speaker 1: maybe say the Star Theater, Indoor Stadium, stadium, right? Will
- 7:08Speaker 1: we see a new sign saying no meta AI glasses allowed?
- 7:13Speaker 2: Well, um, if you are hoping to rip off content,
- 7:17Speaker 2: you have to keep your head very still. I don't
- 7:19Speaker 2: think that's gonna be the best idea.
- 7:22Speaker 2: You know how people rip off like movies and stuff.
- 7:24Speaker 2: They actually input like on a tripod. They, you know,
- 7:27Speaker 2: they put it properly 4K everything. So I, I don't
- 7:29Speaker 2: think it's feasible. To
- 7:30Speaker 1: which
- 7:31Speaker 1: the one person you can't rip off Sonia Chow because
- 7:34Speaker 1: at every festival or club she's bobbing her head, shaky
- 7:37Speaker 1: footage gonna vomit crying is correct.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yes. Uh, by the way, we're supposed to fill in
- 7:43Speaker 2: our listeners about the.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Movie. You know what, after 7 a.m.'s do it the
- 7:47Speaker 2: first thing after 7 a.m. About to open up phone
- 7:49Speaker 2: lines right now, 669-11987. You know this, all throughout this week,
- 7:54Speaker 2: around this time before you get to school, we want
- 7:56Speaker 2: you to bring three of your besties to 987's cloud nine.
- 8:03Speaker 1: May 9th on a Saturday over at Arena and Expo,
- 8:06Speaker 1: not one, not two, but 8 different acts. If you
- 8:09Speaker 1: want to buy it on Ticketmaster, we've got some bestie
- 8:11Speaker 1: bundles for you. One ticket is $28 by the way,
- 8:14Speaker 1: but here on the shock circuit, how about 4 tickets,
- 8:18Speaker 1: absolutely free of charge, free to come enjoy this festival.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Exactly. So we would love for you to have this experience.
- 8:24Speaker 2: I mean, look, if you've never attended a music event
- 8:26Speaker 2: before or if you um really, really want to catch
- 8:29Speaker 2: some of these acts, this is the time to bring
- 8:31Speaker 2: three of your besties with you or you can even
- 8:33Speaker 2: bring your fam. Why not, right? Hi, sweetie, what's your name? Jenna. Hi, Jenna.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Are you with anyone else right now? Yeah, I'm
- 8:41Speaker 1: with
- 8:41Speaker 2: my family.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Hello,
- 8:43Speaker 2: Jenna's family. Can we say hi? No.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Oh. So Janna, which school are you from? Newtown
- 8:50Speaker 2: Primary. Which area in Singapore is it at? Around Queenstown. It's,
- 8:55Speaker 1: it's quite near where we are, the Tanglin Halt.
- 8:58Speaker 2: OK. So, so please tell us what do you love about.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Your school. I love the food there. Oh, give us
- 9:05Speaker 2: some recommendations. Um, I think all the food is nice
- 9:09Speaker 2: because I,
- 9:10Speaker 1: because I'm in P6,
- 9:11Speaker 2: so I recommend all the
- 9:12Speaker 1: food there. You're in P6 this year. How is preparing
- 9:15Speaker 1: for your PSLE Dajana?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Uh,
- 9:19Speaker 1: good.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I sense there's a story there somewhere, but it's OK.
- 9:25Speaker 2: All the best, Janna. Maybe reward yourself with a music
- 9:28Speaker 2: experience here with Media Corp's Cloud nine because you are going.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Congratulations coming your
- 9:34Speaker 1: way.
- 9:36Speaker 2: OK, Jana, on that note, I hope that you bring
- 9:39Speaker 2: your entire family or your besties with you. What song
- 9:42Speaker 2: can we get you today and who is it going
- 9:44Speaker 2: out to? Uh, I'll, I'll go by Cupid, but I'll
- 9:47Speaker 2: go Cupid. You want to hear Cupid? Sure. Is it
- 9:50Speaker 2: dedicated to anyone? Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: my friend.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Uh, to, to
- 9:54Speaker 2: Alexis
- 9:55Speaker 1: to
- 9:55Speaker 2: the
- 9:55Speaker 1: food
- 9:55Speaker 1: group. The food group. No wonder she likes all the
- 9:59Speaker 1: food in the school.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That's so cute. Hey,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know what, Jana, are you a big fan of 50/50? Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Then they'll be there for cloud nine. Really enjoy yourself, OK?
- 10:07Speaker 2: You're gonna love it. We'll see you there.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Thank you. So we had a fun time with some
- 10:12Speaker 2: of our 987 listeners last night. Very, very, very grateful
- 10:17Speaker 2: to our friends over at Shaw Lido
- 10:19Speaker 1: and Universal Pictures Singapore. I must say we really pampered
- 10:23Speaker 1: our listeners yesterday. For the very first time, it was
- 10:26Speaker 1: almost like a business class experience when it comes to movies.
- 10:29Speaker 1: We had it in Lido
- 10:31Speaker 2: Premiere. It was my first time actually. So I mean,
- 10:34Speaker 2: you even get the table service, you know, um, the complimentary.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Popcorn and a drink on your first order and you
- 10:40Speaker 2: can select from um a little menu as well.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I caught Nuremberg there a few weeks ago you did.
- 10:45Speaker 2: OK, OK, beautiful,
- 10:46Speaker 1: and the seats. I wonder if you fall asleep during
- 10:49Speaker 1: the movie, is it a compliment to Lido's very nice sitting? I,
- 10:53Speaker 2: I, I, I love the blanket also, so comfortable.
- 10:56Speaker 1: That's it. Let's get to it. Michael, Sonia, you were
- 11:00Speaker 1: crying more than once.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Can you not call me up next to you, you're
- 11:03Speaker 2: not even.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Right next to me, you're like a distance away.
- 11:06Speaker 1: No, no, no, I heard you. I heard you sniffing
- 11:08Speaker 1: and sniffing and all that 3 times.
- 11:10Speaker 2: OK, yes, I am a very invested emotional person when
- 11:14Speaker 2: it comes to films. OK. OK. And uh, when, when
- 11:18Speaker 2: I let that side of me take over, I just
- 11:20Speaker 2: fully immersed in the movie. Well done. Um, I actually
- 11:23Speaker 2: quite enjoyed it. I would say that I, I, um,
- 11:26Speaker 2: I went in with an open mind. I didn't want
- 11:28Speaker 2: to read any prior critics' reviews of it.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Um, you know, Michael Jackson is someone that I would
- 11:34Speaker 2: say even my parents felt very strongly about when they
- 11:37Speaker 2: were very into music back then. It's their generation exactly. So,
- 11:42Speaker 2: somewhat we are also influenced, you know. I, I actually
- 11:45Speaker 2: enjoyed it because there was a lot of, and this
- 11:47Speaker 2: is not a spoiler, there were a lot of performance moments. Yeah, and,
- 11:51Speaker 2: and Jaafar Jackson, please take a bow. Honestly, I really
- 11:56Speaker 2: enjoyed his performance.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Both agree about Jaafar Jackson because he captured the voice,
- 12:02Speaker 1: the dance moves, and the aura of Michael Jackson, even
- 12:05Speaker 1: the spoken voice, and even the young boy as well,
- 12:07Speaker 1: Giuliano Vardy, who, who played young Michael Jackson. But, but
- 12:12Speaker 1: here's what I wish the film did more of. OK, look,
- 12:15Speaker 1: it's not a spoiler, but it will focus on the
- 12:18Speaker 1: strained relationship between Michael Jackson's father and Michael Jackson himself.
- 12:22Speaker 1: But I wish they gave us more in.
- 12:25Speaker 1: The behind the scenes look of Michael as compared to
- 12:29Speaker 1: more of the stage things that that is easily a
- 12:32Speaker 1: YouTube search away, you know
- 12:33Speaker 1: what I mean?
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Um, OK. Putting my filmmaker, uh, I'm not a filmmaker,
- 12:39Speaker 2: but I studied film back in school, right? I'm just
- 12:41Speaker 2: putting that on right now. If they were to cover
- 12:44Speaker 2: more aspects and facets of Michael Jackson's life, the movie
- 12:48Speaker 2: might be 5 hours long. That's true, you know, so
- 12:50Speaker 2: I think they had to be strategic about what they
- 12:52Speaker 2: wanted to cut and feature in this film. And, and
- 12:55Speaker 2: if you want to add in just
- 12:57Speaker 2: So many different things and views and theories and, and all,
- 13:01Speaker 2: it's going to be far too complicated. I enjoyed it
- 13:04Speaker 2: just as a viewer relaxed, just watching the performances. It
- 13:08Speaker 2: was great. I
- 13:09Speaker 1: don't mind having an open discourse about this, so please,
- 13:11Speaker 1: if you can go watch the movie, uh, preferably in IMAX,
- 13:15Speaker 1: the screen, the movie is made for it. Go enjoy.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I'm pretty, I'm very sure the sound and.
- 13:19Speaker 1: The classic Michael Jackson songs would sound 10 times better
- 13:22Speaker 1: with IMAX speakers.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Excellent. Yeah. Well, um, regardless, we hope our 987 listeners
- 13:27Speaker 2: enjoyed themselves too. So please go check out the brand new,
- 13:31Speaker 2: I would say it's pretty much brand new. It still
- 13:32Speaker 2: smells new. The Premiere theater over at Sholi Dome. Don't
- 13:36Speaker 2: destroy it. Thank you for joining us here
- 13:38Speaker 2: today.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Pretty sure Harry Styles is gearing up for a world
- 13:41Speaker 1: tour very soon.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Actually, some updates about his personal life, to be honest.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I mean, I'm looking forward to it if he's got
- 13:47Speaker 2: a world tour coming up because I I really enjoyed
- 13:49Speaker 2: his previous one. Is
- 13:51Speaker 1: he getting married?
- 13:52Speaker 2: Actually, he might be, you know. So you said
- 13:55Speaker 1: that
- 13:56Speaker 2: as a joke, is it? Did you say that as
- 13:58Speaker 2: a joke?
- 13:58Speaker 1: Yes, because everyone's getting married this year.
- 14:00Speaker 2: So everyone seems to be entering their commitment era for
- 14:04Speaker 2: some reason.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Um, this isn't confirmed, OK? It's not confirmed, but for
- 14:08Speaker 2: a while now, he's been dating Zoe Kravitz. He's, cool couple,
- 14:13Speaker 2: you know, they've never been very open about their relationship,
- 14:16Speaker 2: but in recent days, I think paparazzi caught them, um,
- 14:20Speaker 2: took some photos of them on a date outside, you know,
- 14:22Speaker 2: very candid, casual, a bit of PD.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Here and there, but they're just in their hoodies and
- 14:26Speaker 2: very chill, you know. I mean, celebrities are human after all. Exactly.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I like their energy. I like Zoe Kravitz. She's a
- 14:31Speaker 2: certified cool girl. Harry Styles is cool too, um, and
- 14:35Speaker 2: he's had a history of dating only the coolest girls,
- 14:38Speaker 2: including Kiko Mizuhara, one of my favorite models of all time.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I mean, it seems like Zoe Kravitz was spotted with
- 14:46Speaker 2: a certain rock on a certain finger.
- 14:49Speaker 2: She was wearing a diamond ring on her 4th finger,
- 14:52Speaker 2: on her engagement ring finger. Nothing has been confirmed yet.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Neither one of them has said anything so far and
- 14:58Speaker 2: no reports have come out to confirm, but people definitely
- 15:01Speaker 2: said like, yo, that, that is a very strategic ring
- 15:04Speaker 2: on a certain finger.
- 15:05Speaker 2: That it won't just be an accessory, you know.
- 15:09Speaker 1: So I'm zooming into the picture right now. It does
- 15:12Speaker 1: look like an engagement
- 15:13Speaker 1: ring,
- 15:13Speaker 2: right? It does.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And if it is such, then congratulations to Harry Styles
- 15:18Speaker 1: and Zoe Kravitz. Wow,
- 15:19Speaker 2: I hear the girls out there weeping. Harry Styles is
- 15:22Speaker 2: off the market officially. Wow,
- 15:24Speaker 1: if Zoe takes his last name.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Name Zoe
- 15:27Speaker 2: Styles. That sounds pretty nice. Not too bad, but I
- 15:29Speaker 2: don't think she would change it. Zoe Kravitz iconic, man. Yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 1: Zoe Kravitz Styles. hyphenate the surname
- 15:36Speaker 1: one time.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Do you think I'm going to hyphenate my surname or
- 15:38Speaker 2: change my surname? Actually, I don't never asked you for
- 15:40Speaker 2: your opinion about this.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Sonia Chew Song has a weird ring.
- 15:45Speaker 2: It basically means hand pain in Hokkien.
- 15:49Speaker 2: If you just tuned in to us and you had
- 15:51Speaker 2: no idea that the money has snowballed, $9000 is the
- 15:56Speaker 2: official number that's up for grabs right now. And
- 15:58Speaker 1: don't
- 15:58Speaker 1: forget, for this week, our secret buzzer prize of the week.
- 16:02Speaker 1: It's a place I go to regularly over at the
- 16:04Speaker 1: Tanjong Pagarunch, Duxton.
- 16:07Speaker 1: A membership to the ice bath club worth over $1100.
- 16:14Speaker 1: It's a six-month anytime membership. Go in there whenever you want, rest, recover,
- 16:19Speaker 1: enjoy the sauna or the magnesium salt bath or the ice.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Plunge, whether on the cold pool or the colder
- 16:26Speaker 1: pool.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's basically, you know, great recovery for you.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I've always been an advocate of cold plunging and honestly,
- 16:34Speaker 2: we would love for you to win this, but you
- 16:36Speaker 2: have to tune into every show because you never know
- 16:39Speaker 2: when the secret buzzer is going to go off.
- 16:41Speaker 1: 987
- 16:42Speaker 2: secret.
- 16:46Speaker 1: that sound.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Good morning, Kelvin here. Hello,
- 16:50Speaker 2: Kelvin. What's going on for you today, man?
- 16:53Speaker 1: I'm driving to work right now. OK, Kelvin, I'm assuming
- 16:56Speaker 1: you've listened to every single show. You know the wrong guesses,
- 17:00Speaker 1: so the guess you're going to give us is an intelligent,
- 17:03Speaker 1: fresh one, right? Yes,
- 17:04Speaker 2: I hope so. I hope so too. Fingers crossed. OK,
- 17:07Speaker 2: listen very carefully. Here's the sound you have to identify.
- 17:12Speaker 2: For $9000 what is 987's secret sound? I guess it's
- 17:17Speaker 2: unlocking a lock. Unlocking a lock is your final answer. Yes.
- 17:22Speaker 2: You are
- 17:22Speaker 2: incorrect.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Your chance to play 987's
- 17:26Speaker 2: secret sound continues.
- 17:30Speaker 1: sound
- 17:31Speaker 1: Kelvin, what happened? Unlocking a lock has been said many times.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Aiya at the earlier rounds of the game and it
- 17:40Speaker 1: was still 5K.
- 17:42Speaker 2: OK, well, no worries. The good thing is that at
- 17:44Speaker 2: least you got through the phone lines and you gave
- 17:46Speaker 2: it a shot. So keep trying, OK?
- 17:47Speaker 1: Next time, Kelvin, take care. See you, bye.
- 17:51Speaker 1: One guess.
- 17:58Speaker 1: What's the randomest thing that you feel like isn't a
- 18:02Speaker 1: crime to our parents, but they still scold you for it?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Like, I'm not talking about lying, stealing, or being rude
- 18:09Speaker 1: to them or what, like the things that you do, right,
- 18:12Speaker 1: but your mom and dad will still nna
- 18:13Speaker 2: you. Yeah, shake leg if I ever shake my leg. OK,
- 18:17Speaker 1: shake leg is like a crime to
- 18:18Speaker 2: our
- 18:19Speaker 1: parents.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yes, it's a crime. OK, to be fair, because of
- 18:21Speaker 2: the fact that
- 18:22Speaker 2: My dad was very strict about the leg shaking thing
- 18:25Speaker 2: when I was a kid. I don't actually shake my
- 18:27Speaker 2: leg at all. Um, but also something else was how
- 18:31Speaker 2: I use my chopsticks back then. Um, because if you
- 18:35Speaker 2: don't use your chopsticks properly, chances are it's going to
- 18:38Speaker 2: be crossing over each other or like you hold it
- 18:40Speaker 2: too low, you know, things like that. So I learned
- 18:42Speaker 2: how to use chopsticks the right way from my grandma
- 18:45Speaker 2: back then and my dad's side of the family.
- 18:47Speaker 2: So I, I must say my chopstick skill is very good. OK,
- 18:51Speaker 1: yeah, alright,
- 18:52Speaker 1: well, well done. You're a chopstick.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I'm
- 18:54Speaker 2: a chopstick
- 18:55Speaker 1: queen, whatever they call it. Anyway, um, over the weekend,
- 18:59Speaker 1: went to my usual bread talk, one of three orders
- 19:03Speaker 1: my sausage bun, my pork floss, and my, uh, mochi
- 19:06Speaker 1: coffee bun. I have ham and cheese as well, yes,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I love those, and the apple worm sometimes I allow
- 19:10Speaker 1: myself that.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I was really hungry lah. OK, so after buying a
- 19:15Speaker 1: sausage bun and a chocolate donut, which I like from
- 19:18Speaker 1: Bread Talk, I was like, OK, I'm gonna eat one
- 19:21Speaker 1: while walking home next to my mom. So after taking
- 19:24Speaker 1: my second bite, my mom realizes that I'm eating while walking, right?
- 19:28Speaker 1: Cho Kim cannot eat while walking. Such a bad look
- 19:32Speaker 1: on you.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Why?
- 19:34Speaker 1: Why is that a bad look, Mom, I'm hungry. Cannot.
- 19:37Speaker 1: What if someone takes a picture?
- 19:40Speaker 2: OK, hold on. I do know that in Japan, if
- 19:44Speaker 2: I'm not wrong, aside from you're not allowed to smoke
- 19:47Speaker 2: and walk in public, um, I think the whole eating
- 19:50Speaker 2: and walking thing might also be frowned upon. It is
- 19:53Speaker 2: not a rule that you can't do that. It's not
- 19:55Speaker 2: a law, but I think just in general, um, people
- 19:58Speaker 2: don't do that.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Google
- 20:01Speaker 1: It's better to eat at the vending machine or wherever
- 20:04Speaker 1: you bought it and then you start walking in Japan. No,
- 20:06Speaker 2: but, but sometimes it's because I'm in a hurry, OK,
- 20:09Speaker 2: I will eat and walk too. I've done it many times. Um,
- 20:12Speaker 2: I try my best not to eat in the car,
- 20:14Speaker 2: although I have done it a couple of times when
- 20:16Speaker 2: I was desperate. Yeah, I was desperate.
- 20:18Speaker 1: So my mom was like, yeah, very unhygienic. It's a
- 20:20Speaker 1: bad look. stay somewhere and eat, then you walk.
- 20:24Speaker 1: But why,
- 20:24Speaker 2: why people can eat ice cream anymore? That's why different
- 20:27Speaker 2: double standard hypocrisy.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I was gonna say, but Mom, I'm very hungry. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: know home is just like 5 minutes away,
- 20:33Speaker 2: you couldn't wait the 5 minutes.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I just want to eat. So I think that's
- 20:36Speaker 1: the most random thing. My mom is kind of, I
- 20:39Speaker 1: won't use the word nag is
- 20:41Speaker 2: correct. Yeah. Well, um, my mom would never nag at
- 20:44Speaker 2: me about that because she does it.
- 20:47Speaker 2: She has taken a photo before of her eating probably
- 20:49Speaker 2: a pork floss bun from Bread Talk and saying that
- 20:51Speaker 2: she was really hungry and then I think there was
- 20:54Speaker 2: one funny one. She said she was waiting at the
- 20:56Speaker 2: bus stop near her place, near my parents' place, and
- 21:00Speaker 2: she was eating a bun, and I think, um, the
- 21:03Speaker 2: topping of the bun fell on her shirt, and then
- 21:05Speaker 2: she took a picture and said, what damn Pai say.
- 21:08Speaker 2: So I say, you know what, that's something my mom
- 21:10Speaker 2: won't nag at me about,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and I was just telling my mom, Mom, don't worry,
- 21:14Speaker 1: nobody's gonna waste your time stomping me eating a doughnut
- 21:17Speaker 1: while
- 21:17Speaker 1: walking home.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Not news. Don't worry, it's
- 21:19Speaker 1: not news unless, unless 987 DJ caught eating doughnut while walking.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Come on, don't.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yeah, you're asking for it there. Opening up phone lines
- 21:29Speaker 2: right now, 669-11987. We'd love to know, do you have
- 21:33Speaker 2: this habit? Do you realize this about yourself? Do you
- 21:36Speaker 2: eat and walk perhaps when you're rushing from place to place?
- 21:40Speaker 1: Or can you eat and walk at the same time?
- 21:42Speaker 1: I know some people who can't because they will start
- 21:43Speaker 1: to drop food on the floor.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Oh, OK.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Well, let us know. 669-11987 or drop us a message
- 21:51Speaker 2: to 90050987, and you could walk away with something that
- 21:56Speaker 2: you can sit down and eat at, OK, Estate restaurant
- 21:59Speaker 2: over at Hilton. On a bit of a cute one
- 22:01Speaker 2: here today where Joe was just telling us that he
- 22:03Speaker 2: got nagged at by his mom for walking and eating,
- 22:07Speaker 2: to which she said what it wasn't.
- 22:09Speaker 2: It's not very glamorous, is it? Not a good look.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Not a good look.
- 22:12Speaker 1: OK, that's very
- 22:12Speaker 2: unhygienic. Oh, it's
- 22:15Speaker 1: from Junction 8 to where I live. It's like a
- 22:17Speaker 1: 5 minute walk. OK,
- 22:19Speaker 2: never mind. I just let her have that.
- 22:22Speaker 1: What, I let her everything, is it? OK. I want
- 22:25Speaker 1: to say good morning to Kim on water. Today's question,
- 22:28Speaker 1: do you do the same? Are you OK with walking
- 22:30Speaker 1: and eating at the same time? Kim says, morning guys.
- 22:32Speaker 1: One time I bought some on day one.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And greedy me popped one into my mouth while I
- 22:37Speaker 1: was walking home. The one day burst in my mouth,
- 22:40Speaker 1: and the gula malaka went right to the back of
- 22:42Speaker 1: my throat. I truly thought I was going to die
- 22:44Speaker 1: right there.
- 22:47Speaker 1: We don't mean to laugh, Kim. I had no water,
- 22:49Speaker 1: no tissue. I just coughed and coughed and finally caught
- 22:51Speaker 1: my breath and managed to survive.
- 22:53Speaker 2: The question was, was there anyone around her? Can I
- 22:56Speaker 2: ask her, ask her.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Kim, was there anyone around you that witnessed that?
- 23:00Speaker 1: One more coming in from John. Absolutely guys, especially when
- 23:04Speaker 1: you visit a pasar malam or overseas night market. Exactly.
- 23:07Speaker 1: You have to eat as much as possible and you
- 23:09Speaker 1: have to eat them when it's freshly made before it
- 23:11Speaker 1: gets really soggy and the flavor gets lost
- 23:14Speaker 1: as well.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Can I, can I tell you something that I did
- 23:17Speaker 2: a couple of years back, OK.
- 23:19Speaker 2: So when I, um, when I was, I think I
- 23:22Speaker 2: was out that whole day or something, I was pretty busy, OK,
- 23:25Speaker 2: and in the middle of the day I was very hungry.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I wanted to go get some lunch. I had a
- 23:28Speaker 2: sudden craving for this specific noodles, like specific chakrit from
- 23:32Speaker 2: this specific hawk hawker center, and, um, it's not the
- 23:35Speaker 2: kind of thing where you can walk and eat, right?
- 23:38Speaker 2: And there was no space at the hawker center, OK,
- 23:41Speaker 2: stood there and I tap out it.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I walked to my car, which was in the car
- 23:45Speaker 2: park at the hawker center. I put on the bonnet
- 23:48Speaker 2: and I started eating there like an uncle.
- 23:51Speaker 1: This is Singaporean survival instincts 101, OK. I literally
- 23:55Speaker 2: stood there. I ate, and I think actually an uncle
- 23:58Speaker 2: saw me do that and gave me a thumbs up.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Well done.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Alright lah. I know how you feel. Yeah, so when
- 24:05Speaker 2: I told my, I don't know if my parents remember this,
- 24:07Speaker 2: but when I told them this, my dad was like,
- 24:10Speaker 2: Why you become like taxi uncle.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Why,
- 24:15Speaker 1: why no one took a picture of that?
- 24:17Speaker 2: It was, there was no one really hanging around in
- 24:19Speaker 2: the car park.
- 24:20Speaker 1: 987
- 24:21Speaker 1: DJ caught eating chocolate on
- 24:22Speaker 2: car bonnet. Why is that news, right? That's the question.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Why is that news? OK.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Anyway, um, keep the messages coming in and the stories. 669-11987.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Seeing how Joakim got nagged at by his mom for, um,
- 24:35Speaker 2: walking and eating. Is that something that you do? Like
- 24:38Speaker 2: sometimes you're just so hungry, it takes over you, you know,
- 24:40Speaker 2: you're desperate.
- 24:41Speaker 1: If we
- 24:42Speaker 1: do like your answer, what's coming your way, of course,
- 24:43Speaker 1: a very nice dining experience to estate over at Hilton Singapore.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Can I give you one confession? You know, breakfast buffets
- 24:49Speaker 1: at hotels, you know, the hash brown in the circle
- 24:52Speaker 2: shape when you're walking back to the table you eat,
- 24:53Speaker 2: is it? Yes.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Having such a good laugh right now at your messages. Oh,
- 24:59Speaker 2: we're talking about eating and walking, OK. Joakim got nagged
- 25:03Speaker 2: at by his mom for doing that, saying it's not
- 25:05Speaker 2: only unhygienic, it is also not a good look for you,
- 25:09Speaker 2: according to her.
- 25:10Speaker 2: And I mean, I know a lot of Singaporeans that
- 25:12Speaker 2: do that, but in other cultures, I think specifically Japan,
- 25:15Speaker 2: I think it's pretty frowned upon. Yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 1: so Dom actually texted us and said, Hey guys, yes,
- 25:20Speaker 1: my wife is Japanese, and she cannot tahan walking while eating. Also,
- 25:25Speaker 1: when my son buys something like a power or donut
- 25:28Speaker 1: and very excitedly digs into it there and then, she
- 25:31Speaker 1: will scold and stop him from doing it. So he
- 25:34Speaker 1: has to put it back and wait.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Until we get to a private space. It's almost as
- 25:38Speaker 1: if it's a serious crime or sin like that. I
- 25:41Speaker 1: don't get it. Oh man,
- 25:41Speaker 2: I don't, I mean, OK, so for me, right, if
- 25:43Speaker 2: I get, for example, chunky curry puff, I need to
- 25:47Speaker 2: enjoy it. I'm chowing I'm, I'm eating it right now
- 25:50Speaker 2: because I need it. Uh,
- 25:52Speaker 1: Lim says actually in Japan and Korea, you're supposed to
- 25:54Speaker 1: buy and food at a store you bought it in
- 25:56Speaker 1: because you can't find any dustbins after you leave the store.
- 26:01Speaker 1: your trash with you for a long time. Eat and
- 26:03Speaker 1: walk is rude in those
- 26:04Speaker 1: countries.
- 26:05Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, we, we noticed that it's just that sometimes, right,
- 26:10Speaker 2: what you're rushing like from your, your, your block to
- 26:14Speaker 2: your office, like you don't have time to stand there
- 26:16Speaker 2: and eat is my question. Like, I don't know. OK,
- 26:20Speaker 2: anyway,
- 26:20Speaker 1: and one more coming in from Jack, a one-liner. My
- 26:24Speaker 1: mom has more stringent advice for her children.
- 26:26Speaker 1: People who take their meals standing up are known as
- 26:29Speaker 1: poor souls to her.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Ku minguiku ming gui. I never heard of this.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Poor soul. Is
- 26:36Speaker 2: it
- 26:36Speaker 1: a
- 26:36Speaker 2: bad, uh, bad feng shui thing to eat and walk?
- 26:39Speaker 1: I mean, for her mom, for his mom to say that,
- 26:42Speaker 1: definitely bad to her, I guess.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Maybe, maybe it's their own belief. Uh, wanna give a
- 26:47Speaker 2: big shout out here to TT. You didn't quite leave
- 26:50Speaker 2: your name.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Um, but you did leave an AI picture of me
- 26:55Speaker 2: eating chocolate on the car based off my story earlier on.
- 26:59Speaker 1: And based on this AI picture, the Honda looks very old. Which,
- 27:03Speaker 1: which era in the
- 27:04Speaker 2: 90s was this Honda Accord or something. I don't know
- 27:08Speaker 2: what Honda this was, but that's hilarious, but it's very
- 27:11Speaker 2: scary lah. It actually looks very much like me. I wonder,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I wonder which picture of you he used to AI
- 27:17Speaker 1: this because your.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Bulgari jewelry still there.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Yeah,
- 27:19Speaker 2: exactly. I noticed that too. You noticed that maybe it was, yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 2: one of the recent pictures from our work things. don't
- 27:27Speaker 2: play AI, yeah, I get, but my face is 7 80% there, 70, 80% there.
- 27:34Speaker 2: You look Thai over here. Oh, thank you, thank you. What?
- 27:37Speaker 2: Thai people are beautiful.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Oh, I love them. Can I go first to Sam Felts,
- 27:41Speaker 2: Emily Warren, continue getting your messages through. We, we love
- 27:45Speaker 2: to hear it. Having such a good laugh this morning.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Do you eat and walk? I just having a good
- 27:50Speaker 2: laugh at your messages here today seems like more of
- 27:52Speaker 2: a text-heavy one because some of you even sending photos,
- 27:56Speaker 2: photo evidence of you eating and walking at the same time.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Is that really frowned upon here in Singapore?
- 28:03Speaker 1: Elston on WhatsApp says morning, Sonia and Joki. Taiwan night
- 28:07Speaker 1: markets offer a wide variety of delicious food and many
- 28:10Speaker 1: dishes that are best eaten while they are still hot. However,
- 28:14Speaker 1: most stalls do not provide tables and chairs, so tourists
- 28:16Speaker 1: like us often have to eat while walking. Yeah. My
- 28:20Speaker 1: father can't do that. He needs to stand still when
- 28:22Speaker 1: he eats.
- 28:24Speaker 1: He asked me how am I able to eat and
- 28:26Speaker 1: walk at the same time because his legs does not
- 28:28Speaker 1: listen when he tries. He joked that maybe eating and
- 28:31Speaker 1: walking at the same time is a skill only younger
- 28:34Speaker 1: people have. It's
- 28:35Speaker 2: like multitasking. OK, no, no, no, I disagree. My mom
- 28:38Speaker 2: can do it perfectly. She's very good at it, but
- 28:41Speaker 2: she did spill a couple of things on herself, so.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I mean walking and eating, OK, your legs are moving,
- 28:45Speaker 1: your hands are moving, your
- 28:47Speaker 2: mouth
- 28:48Speaker 1: has to look down at the food and look up
- 28:49Speaker 1: at the road and see where you're going. Yeah, it
- 28:51Speaker 1: can be quite tough for
- 28:52Speaker 2: a few people. Multitasking, yeah, I would say, um, but
- 28:55Speaker 2: having been to Taiwan a couple of times, I do agree.
- 28:58Speaker 2: There are even those um breakfast spots, right? OK, and
- 29:01Speaker 2: some of these are the best.
- 29:02Speaker 2: It was near my hotel and um I recall there
- 29:05Speaker 2: was this auntie, just this one auntie running the store.
- 29:09Speaker 2: It's a roadside store and because the area that we
- 29:11Speaker 2: were at, it was like convenience store and then you know,
- 29:15Speaker 2: other touristy things, but then all of a sudden there
- 29:17Speaker 2: was this corner shop run by an auntie, right? And
- 29:20Speaker 2: I saw the locals actually buying from there.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Um, and she sold the Taiwan miso, you know, the
- 29:26Speaker 2: oyster miso, ah, so good for breakfast. Yeah, that's their
- 29:29Speaker 2: breakfast food. Wow, it's, it's like porridge
- 29:32Speaker 1: because I was about to ask whether is a Taiwanese
- 29:34Speaker 1: breakfast the same as like a breakfast from Hong Kong,
- 29:37Speaker 1: you know, like and all that.
- 29:39Speaker 2: It's like a cha chan, but there's no seating area,
- 29:42Speaker 2: so people were buying and they were just walking and
- 29:45Speaker 2: eating at the same time.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Oyster
- 29:47Speaker 1: miswa for breakfast.
- 29:48Speaker 2: OK, that one I had to stop and eat. I
- 29:50Speaker 2: couldn't walk and eat that one, stood over there and
- 29:52Speaker 2: ate for a while. I mean,
- 29:53Speaker 1: if
- 29:53Speaker 1: that's their breakfast, I wonder what their lunch and
- 29:55Speaker 1: dinner.
- 29:55Speaker 2: So
- 29:56Speaker 1: good,
- 29:56Speaker 2: honestly, you will love the food in Taiwan. It's not
- 29:59Speaker 2: so heavy like what you think. It's, it's almost like
- 30:02Speaker 2: a porridge breakfast for us, you know, but,
- 30:04Speaker 1: but you know me, I'm a simple man, right? I
- 30:06Speaker 1: go to Taiwan. The first thing I want to have
- 30:07Speaker 1: is the s. No, I'm kidding, the shi chicken from
- 30:11Speaker 1: Shilin itself. Am I saying that right?
- 30:13Speaker 2: I think so. I mean, I'm, you know, I'm the
- 30:15Speaker 2: worst person ever when it comes to these things, forget it. Um,
- 30:19Speaker 2: but please go there the next time you go there,
- 30:21Speaker 2: try the miso. I think you will like it. Thank
- 30:22Speaker 2: you so much for joining us today. OK, so only
- 30:25Speaker 2: one person can walk away with this wonderful experience thanks
- 30:28Speaker 2: to Estate or at Hilton Hotel.
- 30:30Speaker 1: We are introducing a brand new champagne brunch. Lovely. So
- 30:36Speaker 1: whenever there's a champagne brunch, chances are you might.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Sonny Chew over there.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Can you stop calling me out for that?
- 30:41Speaker 1: You love the champagne
- 30:42Speaker 1: brunch. I love the bubbly. So they got things like
- 30:45Speaker 1: foie gras, Boston lobster, fresh seafood, indulgent desserts, and free
- 30:50Speaker 1: flow champagne from Moit and Shandong.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's available every Sunday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
- 30:57Speaker 2: So you've got 3 solid hours to enjoy, and today's
- 31:01Speaker 2: experience goes to
- 31:02Speaker 1: Elston.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Austin. Bring your dad with you. How about that? Alright,
- 31:07Speaker 2: congratulations. This is worth $100. We hope to see you there.
- 31:10Speaker 2: And please tag us and also tag Estate Restaurant. Coming
- 31:15Speaker 2: up right after 9 a.m. Got a couple of things
- 31:17Speaker 2: to look forward to.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Sonia, I got a question for you. Yes, you would
- 31:20Speaker 1: call me a very skeptical person, right? Yes.
- 31:24Speaker 1: No hesitation. Am I, am I the most skeptical person
- 31:27Speaker 1: you know in your life? In fact,
- 31:29Speaker 2: I think you might be, might be.
- 31:33Speaker 1: This is why sometimes buying a Rolex, OK, I'm on
- 31:35Speaker 1: the
- 31:35Speaker 1: fence
- 31:36Speaker 2: or maybe even any luxury watch you mean. Yeah,
- 31:38Speaker 1: I'm
- 31:39Speaker 1: on the fence about this one because I never know whether.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Is it genuine or fake or am I being scammed
- 31:44Speaker 1: or whatsoever?
- 31:47Speaker 2: you're getting it from a reseller, OK, because if you're
- 31:50Speaker 2: getting it from the store, you don't have to worry
- 31:52Speaker 2: about that. Yeah, maybe like I'm
- 31:54Speaker 1: the
- 31:55Speaker 2: secondhand market, which is 2
- 31:55Speaker 1: years' time, a small gift to myself for all the
- 31:57Speaker 1: hustle and things I've done, right?
- 31:59Speaker 1: But there is a case involving a Rolex here in Singapore. OK.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Let me fill you in on what happened and also
- 32:07Speaker 1: why it further feeds into my
- 32:09Speaker 2: skepticism. Paranoia.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Yes, correct. Paranoia is correct as well. Not one, not 2,
- 32:15Speaker 1: but a total of 4 Rolex watches.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Joking. Wow.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Congrats on your big purchase.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I bought it from Thailand if you know what
- 32:23Speaker 1: I mean. OK, but yes, uh, apparently this news went
- 32:28Speaker 1: absolutely viral yesterday here in Singapore. I think on social media,
- 32:32Speaker 1: there are a few commentary videos as well. An Italian
- 32:36Speaker 1: man tried to sell a Rolex to a watch shop, OK, OK,
- 32:40Speaker 1: here in
- 32:41Speaker 2: Singapore. Yeah,
- 32:42Speaker 1: so he sold it for 94.
- 32:44Speaker 1: $1700.
- 32:47Speaker 2: What was
- 32:47Speaker 2: it? Some rare submarin or what? It's
- 32:49Speaker 1: a Rolex GMTT.
- 32:52Speaker 2: OK, OK. So it's, it's difficult to get.
- 32:55Speaker 1: So apparently the reason why he wanted to sell this
- 32:58Speaker 1: Rolex watch, right, was because he bought it from a friend,
- 33:02Speaker 1: and he all of a sudden thought that, hey, I
- 33:05Speaker 1: think this Rolex watch is fake, but he paid.
- 33:09Speaker 2: I'm assuming quite a large amount of money as well
- 33:12Speaker 2: to
- 33:12Speaker 2: his friends.
- 33:13Speaker 1: So when he inspected the watch himself, he suspected that
- 33:16Speaker 1: the the numbers, the serial number was engraved on a laser,
- 33:20Speaker 1: not officially done. Yeah. So he sold it to this
- 33:24Speaker 1: watch shop where the watch shop actually did its due process.
- 33:27Speaker 1: It checked and everything. There was the warranty card and
- 33:29Speaker 1: all that, and the watchshop said, OK, how much do
- 33:31Speaker 1: you want for it?
- 33:32Speaker 1: So apparently, he didn't want cash for it. OK. This guy,
- 33:37Speaker 1: the seller, took 3 other Rolex watches. So. Yeah, he
- 33:41Speaker 1: took a Rolex Daytona, a Rolex GMT, and a Rolex Submariner. Yeah.
- 33:47Speaker 1: So I think the total amount is $94,700.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Apparently, a friend of the watch shop owner, OK, said, Hey,
- 33:57Speaker 1: maybe you should check this watch, lah. It could be fake.
- 34:00Speaker 1: So the guy goes to another shop across the the
- 34:03Speaker 1: the mall.
- 34:05Speaker 1: He checks it and the other watch shop says, hey,
- 34:08Speaker 1: the number on the Rolex watch looks like it was
- 34:10Speaker 1: engraved with a laser, not officially done. Oh dear.
- 34:14Speaker 1: So the watch shop tried to call the watch seller saying, Hey,
- 34:17Speaker 1: please come back. Ah, please come back. The watch seller
- 34:19Speaker 1: ignores the calls and all that. A police report was made.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Oh no.
- 34:23Speaker 1: And the watch seller was arrested at Changi Airport.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Of course.
- 34:27Speaker 2: OK, it takes 2 seconds for them
- 34:28Speaker 1: to find him. Are you
- 34:29Speaker 1: ready for the twist?
- 34:31Speaker 2: Yes,
- 34:31Speaker 1: when the police brought the Rolex GMT Saru, the original
- 34:35Speaker 1: Rolex watch involved in this whole thing, to the official
- 34:38Speaker 1: Rolex authorized seller and
- 34:41Speaker 2: But I think you can bring it to any store actually,
- 34:43Speaker 1: but, but it's from Rolex itself, the checkers, the greatest,
- 34:46Speaker 1: whatever you wanna call them, right? The greatest actually said, oh,
- 34:49Speaker 1: it's a legit watch.
- 34:52Speaker 2: So the inspectors were like, oh yeah, this is. So wait,
- 34:56Speaker 2: did this guy get into trouble then? Because he had
- 34:58Speaker 2: the intention of selling this fake watch that he thought
- 35:03Speaker 2: was fake but actually turned out to be real.
- 35:04Speaker 1: So they've classified it an impossible, but the intent of
- 35:08Speaker 1: wanting to cheat someone, it's
- 35:10Speaker 2: there. So then what will he be charged with
- 35:12Speaker 1: that remains to be seen. No, but, but here's the thing,
- 35:15Speaker 1: aside from this watch seller, right now I'm very, very skeptical.
- 35:20Speaker 1: When a watch retailer or authorized retailer, right, and when
- 35:24Speaker 1: they inspect my watch, they tell me if it's real
- 35:27Speaker 1: or fake. Now I'm a bit skeptical.
- 35:29Speaker 2: OK, so I guess what you can do is you
- 35:32Speaker 2: immediately bring it to the authorized seller, meaning, let's say
- 35:36Speaker 2: a Rolex or IWC Omega or whatever, bring it straight
- 35:39Speaker 2: to the shop and be like, hey, yeah, I mean,
- 35:41Speaker 2: I think you can do it at any shop, to
- 35:43Speaker 2: be honest. I pay.
- 35:44Speaker 2: No, I think you can just, OK, look, don't take
- 35:46Speaker 2: it from me. I'm not entirely sure, but you can
- 35:49Speaker 2: just go there and say, hey, I want to check
- 35:51Speaker 2: for authenticity. Um, could you help me out? Yeah.
- 35:53Speaker 1: So with the grader saying that, oh, they felt that
- 35:55Speaker 1: the lasering was not officially done, but the Rolex graders
- 36:00Speaker 1: themselves
- 36:00Speaker 2: said no, it's real. Now you're worried like, hey, how
- 36:03Speaker 2: come this.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why. So I think moral of the story,
- 36:07Speaker 2: just bring it to the original place to to to
- 36:10Speaker 2: inspect it. I think that's the safest.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Google Rolex GMT. Is it $4000?
- 36:17Speaker 2: It's, it's, you know, supply and demand, Joe. So I
- 36:20Speaker 2: think it's the scarcity mindset.
- 36:23Speaker 2: it's difficult to get. That's why it's really expensive.
- 36:25Speaker 1: OK, the, the one that first popped up is like
- 36:28Speaker 1: a golden color Rolex diamond encrusted with like a blue
- 36:31Speaker 1: and a red bezel, and apparently according to some websites,
- 36:35Speaker 1: it could retail for over 1000.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Wow. I mean, look, if you look at, if you
- 36:40Speaker 2: want to talk about watches, right, the Royal Oak.
- 36:43Speaker 2: AP Mini Royal Oak is reselling for like 90 to
- 36:46Speaker 2: 1000 right now. It is not even an automatic movement.
- 36:50Speaker 2: It's quartz movement. It's a tiny watch. It's an accessory,
- 36:54Speaker 2: but it's retailing for
- 36:55Speaker 1: 100,000. Can I ask how much does a Joakim Gomez
- 36:58Speaker 1: Apple Watch Ultra 3 cost?
- 37:01Speaker 2: This one, I think might have to pay people to wear.
- 37:07Speaker 2: How much sweat on there? Not sure.
- 37:09Speaker 1: That's true actually, yes.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Coming up in a few minutes, um.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Bit of a shameless plug here, but it's also related
- 37:14Speaker 2: to work. So in just a few minutes, a new
- 37:18Speaker 2: miniseries has dropped. I'm not sure if you managed to
- 37:20Speaker 2: watch it just yet. Um, I just want to say
- 37:22Speaker 2: a big thank you to the crew that has worked
- 37:24Speaker 2: behind it, you know, and the people that followed me
- 37:27Speaker 2: through the wedding prep journey. It has been chaotic, and
- 37:30Speaker 2: I think at times they were actually low-key a bit worried.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I
- 37:33Speaker 1: mean, with the amount of views you racked up over
- 37:35Speaker 1: one night, at this point you are carrying, no,
- 37:38Speaker 2: you can.
- 37:39Speaker 2: I say that this is live on we're live on
- 37:41Speaker 2: our channel right
- 37:42Speaker 2: now.
- 37:43Speaker 1: It's close to 80 overnight.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Well done. I, I actually enjoyed the process because it
- 37:48Speaker 2: was really just them following me on my chaotic journey,
- 37:51Speaker 2: to be honest, and um, please watch it. It's not longer,
- 37:54Speaker 2: not anything longer than like 7 minutes, I think. It's
- 37:57Speaker 2: like 6 minutes something, so it's really easy to watch
- 38:00Speaker 2: on your way to work, um, and I actually said, hey,
- 38:03Speaker 2: is there anyone else that can relate to how
- 38:05Speaker 2: Chill. I am. Got a couple of DMs coming through. Um,
- 38:09Speaker 2: can I give a shout out to one of them?
- 38:10Speaker 1: OK, I'll read
- 38:11Speaker 2: one of the DMs right now. Hold on, let me
- 38:13Speaker 2: just go to Instagram really quickly.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Are we doing it? Are we teasing? Yeah,
- 38:17Speaker 2: I will just, I will just read out the message first, OK.
- 38:19Speaker 2: So this guy goes, wah, this is exactly the exact
- 38:24Speaker 2: situation my girlfriend and I are in right now. I
- 38:27Speaker 2: proposed back in January of 2025 thinking we had all
- 38:30Speaker 2: the time in the world.
- 38:32Speaker 2: But we're in a slightly better situation than you since
- 38:34Speaker 2: our wedding is in November. However, we've not done anything.
- 38:38Speaker 2: We've not even sent out the invites, not taking any
- 38:41Speaker 2: pre-wedding shoots. My partner still seems pretty chill, and I
- 38:45Speaker 2: have a feeling he's not.
- 38:46Speaker 1: The, the panic will set in sometime in August, I'm
- 38:49Speaker 1: guessing
- 38:49Speaker 2: maybe for
- 38:50Speaker 1: this couple. Can I ask, have you done your pre-wedding shoot?
- 38:54Speaker 1: You are kidding.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Hello. Um, thank you so much, by the way, for
- 38:57Speaker 2: the love on, uh, the new wedding miniseries. As Joakim knows,
- 39:00Speaker 2: I am not the kind of person that really likes
- 39:03Speaker 2: to talk about my wedding.
- 39:04Speaker 1: OK, so as of 16 hours ago on Media Corp
- 39:08Speaker 1: Entertainment's YouTube page, 8400 views.
- 39:12Speaker 2: You know, you are
- 39:12Speaker 1: like the Lisa of
- 39:13Speaker 2: Media Corp.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Well done. The drop went
- 39:15Speaker 2: viral. Can you stop?
- 39:18Speaker 2: Once again, we are live on air. I'm just lazing.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Um, and coming from a person who, to be honest,
- 39:25Speaker 2: I haven't shared anything about my wedding journey, purely because
- 39:28Speaker 2: I don't identify as someone who loves to plan weddings.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Again, from a, from a everyday consumer standpoint, I'm not
- 39:35Speaker 1: talking as your friend or co-host, right? I think there
- 39:37Speaker 1: are ways to share that you're getting married as a
- 39:41Speaker 1: public personality, and then as a way to shove it
- 39:43Speaker 1: down our throats. OK,
- 39:45Speaker 2: but there's really no right or wrong.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Thank you for not doing that.
- 39:48Speaker 2: I'm, I'm, I'm the neutral person here. You're There's no
- 39:51Speaker 2: right or wrong. Should I turn off joking, but I'm
- 39:53Speaker 2: very scared. No,
- 39:55Speaker 1: honestly, right, some, some wedding news about public personality is
- 39:58Speaker 1: a bit too
- 39:59Speaker 1: much.
- 40:00Speaker 2: I mean, you know, news is news sometimes. Anything can
- 40:03Speaker 2: become news, right? But um I do appreciate the love
- 40:06Speaker 2: and I think people are just kind of laughing along
- 40:08Speaker 2: with us at this point. One thing that I completely
- 40:10Speaker 2: forgot that this episode reminded me of when we did
- 40:13Speaker 2: the sit-down interview, right?
- 40:15Speaker 2: Um, Germs was right. He actually got me to pay
- 40:18Speaker 2: for the dinner the night that he proposed.
- 40:23Speaker 2: So if you want to find out more, watch the
- 40:25Speaker 2: very first episode. It is an insight to how it
- 40:28Speaker 2: all began and a, a little hint of how the
- 40:31Speaker 2: preparation has been going. I mean,
- 40:33Speaker 1: germs making you pay for Chaui and all that, and
- 40:34Speaker 1: he pocket me, and he trades you off with a
- 40:38Speaker 1: huge rock on your forefinger.
- 40:39Speaker 2: OK,
- 40:40Speaker 1: it's a fair trade-off,
- 40:41Speaker 2: lah. Maybe that's what, what he was thinking. Exactly. Yeah,
- 40:44Speaker 2: I better save money today, Masons pay.
- 40:48Speaker 2: And if I'm not wrong, he made me drive there also,
- 40:50Speaker 2: you know, I think,
- 40:51Speaker 1: can you stop complaining? He's marrying
- 40:53Speaker 2: you? Yeah, well, too late for him. No turning back.
- 40:56Speaker 2: There's no turning back.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Jeremy, it's OK. I'm available if you need this guy.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I'm starting to worry like this wedding, I think it
- 41:02Speaker 2: might be you and him instead. Yeah,
- 41:03Speaker 1: you're just crashing.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I'm just crashing.
- 41:05Speaker 1: So anyway, it's called Countdown I do with Sonia
- 41:09Speaker 2: Chew. It's right, yeah, you can catch it on MediaCorp.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Entertainment YouTube and we're sharing snippets of it on 987
- 41:16Speaker 2: Socials as well. So check it out. I think episode
- 41:19Speaker 2: two is dropping probably, probably tomorrow actually or Friday.
- 41:22Speaker 1: When, when I on this I should give a speech
- 41:25Speaker 1: or something,
- 41:26Speaker 2: if I'm not wrong, they need to pull you aside
- 41:28Speaker 2: for a for a little chat, for the last few
- 41:32Speaker 2: episodes.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Alright, runners in Singapore and Sonia Chew.
- 41:37Speaker 2: I zoned out the moment you said runners in Singapore.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Mark this date down. 27th of April 2026. That is
- 41:46Speaker 1: when registrations open for the BYD Singapore International Marathon proudly
- 41:52Speaker 1: brought to you by Adidas.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Soon, isn't that the end of the year?
- 41:55Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's in December, but of course they are
- 41:58Speaker 1: targeting 52,000 people both locally and internationally to take part
- 42:04Speaker 1: in whatever category you want, register early so that you
- 42:07Speaker 1: won't run out of slots.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Sorry, run out of slots. Sorry, bad, bad joke, bad joke.
- 42:14Speaker 1: So I'm doing 42 km. Oh,
- 42:16Speaker 2: congrats.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Brought to you by BYD. I'm pretty sure the Adidas
- 42:19Speaker 1: half marathon, it might be the most popular category among
- 42:22Speaker 1: Singaporeans here.
- 42:23Speaker 2: So 212.
- 42:25Speaker 1: You, my challenge to you. And if you're doing it,
- 42:29Speaker 1: I will run it with you on Friday night.
- 42:31Speaker 1: And then Sunday morning I'll do the marathon.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Wait, let me check. What is
- 42:34Speaker 1: it? December 4th. December 4th, Friday night. Come on.
- 42:38Speaker 2: December 4th is a Friday. It's
- 42:40Speaker 1: a Friday night.
- 42:42Speaker 2: I think my dad's birthday is around that time. I
- 42:44Speaker 2: don't think I can make it. I was
- 42:46Speaker 1: gonna say, come on, take on either the 5 km
- 42:49Speaker 1: or the Standard Chartered 10 km. Come on, Sonia.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I predict I'm throwing my dad a birthday celebration
- 42:55Speaker 2: on the 4th on Friday.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Yes, he just reminded me his birthday is on the 10th.
- 43:00Speaker 1: No, don't do it on the 4th. You know closures. Ah,
- 43:03Speaker 1: do it on Saturday.
- 43:05Speaker 2: OK, but we're doing it at, you know, at a
- 43:09Speaker 2: place near there.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Clearly I don't know where we're doing it. I'm,
- 43:12Speaker 1: I'm trying to really convince you to do at least
- 43:15Speaker 1: an all-out 10 km and shout out to Benjamin King. Yeah, OK.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Hey, this guy's on a different level. You can't compare
- 43:21Speaker 2: me with him, bro.
- 43:23Speaker 1: This guy started running only what, 2019 with the Adidas
- 43:26Speaker 1: Runners Club. If you saw his latest post, he really
- 43:29Speaker 1: does a chronicle, right? It took 7 years or even to, to,
- 43:33Speaker 1: to train consistently, and now he's really cut down. He's
- 43:36Speaker 1: leaned up, and his 10 km timing is.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Almost below 43 minutes,
- 43:41Speaker 2: which is really good. I'm guessing.
- 43:42Speaker 1: I've, I've been running for years. I've never hit a
- 43:45Speaker 1: 43 minutes. My fastest is only 45
- 43:47Speaker 1: minutes.
- 43:48Speaker 2: See, I, I, you know, you lost me there already.
- 43:50Speaker 2: I'm not even gonna try, OK, with the timing. My
- 43:53Speaker 2: goal is if I can even complete the 10 kilometers.
- 43:56Speaker 1: OK, OK. Wait, honestly, yeah, if BYD comes to Media
- 44:00Speaker 1: Corps TCA, Hi, yeah, we heard Joakim teasing Sonia. We
- 44:04Speaker 1: want to engage Sonia to run 10 km.
- 44:07Speaker 2: No, it's not happening.
- 44:10Speaker 2: I, uh, I, I can't, I can't make any promises.
- 44:12Speaker 2: It's too
- 44:13Speaker 1: early in the year. I really am trying my best,
- 44:16Speaker 1: but twenty-seventh of April mark this date registrations will be open. Uh,
- 44:20Speaker 2: good news. We're finally getting some music from
- 44:22Speaker 2: you.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Yeah. So if you were in Toronto, Canada the last
- 44:25Speaker 2: few
- 44:25Speaker 1: days,
- 44:25Speaker 2: I wonder who had a shot at like trying to
- 44:28Speaker 2: chip away at the ice
- 44:29Speaker 2: block.
- 44:29Speaker 1: You might have seen a giant ice block.
- 44:32Speaker 1: To which people are trying to lick it as well.
- 44:34Speaker 1: It's disgusting. Please don't do it. Uh, but yeah, in
- 44:37Speaker 1: the middle of that ice block was the release date
- 44:40Speaker 1: for Drake's latest album. It's gonna be called Iceman, May 15, 2026.
- 44:47Speaker 1: That's in about maybe say a month's time.
- 44:49Speaker 2: I
- 44:49Speaker 1: have
- 44:49Speaker 2: a, I have a question. Did I see someone with
- 44:52Speaker 2: a flamethrower?
- 44:53Speaker 2: Actually went there to try and like melt the ice.
- 44:55Speaker 2: You know what, I don't know whether, I don't know
- 44:56Speaker 2: what's AI anymore. That's the thing.
- 44:58Speaker 1: I would not be surprised. It could be an Elon
- 45:00Speaker 1: Musk flamethrower.
- 45:01Speaker 2: It
- 45:01Speaker 2: could be, yes, um, but what, for what it's worth,
- 45:04Speaker 2: I think after having been quite quiet for some time,
- 45:08Speaker 2: he's made quite an impact in the scene. I mean,
- 45:11Speaker 2: people were curious about it.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Let's see how he comes back from all that Kendrick Lamar.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Yeah, dude. I really hope so too. Let's see what happens.
