- 0:01Speaker 1: Time Barris bits mo money guys, a bit of a
- 0:06Speaker 1: This could be a bit of a watershed moment for
- 0:09Speaker 1: me on this show and in my own.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Life as well.
- 0:13Speaker 3: I thought i'd sort of and it's been provoked a
- 0:15Speaker 3: bit by the FIFA World Cup as well, and who
- 0:18Speaker 3: you support at the World Cup.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'm a bit.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Confused as to this will sound so stupid, but I'm
- 0:25Speaker 3: a bit confused as to.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Who I actually am.
- 0:28Speaker 4: He has heritage identity crisis.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I've always thought that, Well, you.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Go for the Aussies first, right, Yeah, but when the
- 0:38Speaker 3: soccers are out, you know Croati is playing at the moment,
- 0:40Speaker 3: so there'll be no Croatians listening anyway, I'll be watching,
- 0:44Speaker 3: so I could probably sort of get away with a bit.
- 0:47Speaker 3: But then I'll tell you what provoked it. I'm thinking
- 0:51Speaker 3: about doing a TV show, you know that TV show.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Who do you think you are?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Thinking?
- 0:56Speaker 3: My hand up for that, because remember Dennis Committee didn't
- 0:59Speaker 3: found out.
- 0:59Speaker 2: He was full italian Y.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it was the first time he really sort of
- 1:02Speaker 3: embraced his Italianism, if you can put it like that,
- 1:05Speaker 3: and went and visited all the committees in a little
- 1:07Speaker 3: village in Italy and a village of commedtees.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Just opening up a whole world to you.
- 1:12Speaker 5: Have you ever done one of those spit test?
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yes, I have confusing Yeah, there was a lot of Croatian,
- 1:18Speaker 3: there's some German, some Italians. Some my mum's the skip
- 1:22Speaker 3: so there was a bit of that as well. But
- 1:24Speaker 3: what really brought it home to me was recently that
- 1:27Speaker 3: Italian festival in Perth.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I don't know if you went to Langley Park.
- 1:30Speaker 4: I knew of it and it's always a good festival.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah, they put they had Nana's house there, right, this
- 1:36Speaker 3: is noble, This sounds stupid, but Nana's house was there
- 1:39Speaker 3: and they had recreated Nana's lounge room. And when I
- 1:44Speaker 3: stood in it, I was transported back to my childhood
- 1:47Speaker 3: because my family had a lot of my families had
- 1:50Speaker 3: a lounge room like that, complete with the plastic on
- 1:53Speaker 3: the furniture, good furniture.
- 1:56Speaker 4: And lots of concrete out the front of the house.
- 2:00Speaker 5: And lines.
- 2:01Speaker 3: It was the lound room that did it for me,
- 2:02Speaker 3: because I think it was the plastic on, you know,
- 2:05Speaker 3: because you never used the loundroom only for special occasions,
- 2:07Speaker 3: which has hardly ever happened. He never even went in
- 2:10Speaker 3: there he lived in the kitchen right, And this is
- 2:12Speaker 3: my uncle and auntie Auntie Netta and uncle Pietro Peter.
- 2:16Speaker 3: There was at Langley Park. It was the last supper
- 2:19Speaker 3: on the wall. Yes, the painting, so that brought because
- 2:23Speaker 3: everyone had one of those. In the Italian families, there's
- 2:26Speaker 3: a rotary phone and lots of doilies everywhere.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yes, I started to question.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Whether you know how much of my Croatian how much
- 2:35Speaker 3: of my Italian? And my wife thinks that I want
- 2:37Speaker 3: to be Italian. And I've hung out of the Italian
- 2:40Speaker 3: Cup a bit with Reda Safioti and some of those people,
- 2:42Speaker 3: and I absolutely love my I can relate to them,
- 2:44Speaker 3: and it's.
- 2:46Speaker 4: A bit of everything in there. Yeah, it's I guess
- 2:48Speaker 4: it's just which one do you grab the most?
- 2:52Speaker 3: And is it important? At times like the World Cup?
- 2:54Speaker 3: It probably is important. I mean, I'm friends with Joe Avardi,
- 2:57Speaker 3: the Italian Australian comedian. I say friends, you know, I'm
- 3:01Speaker 3: an admire of his And he was explaining a lot
- 3:04Speaker 3: about it too, to me, about and to a lot
- 3:07Speaker 3: of people about growing up with an ethnic dad, like
- 3:09Speaker 3: and it happened to me too. You go to your
- 3:11Speaker 3: dad and you go, hey, Dad, I want to have
- 3:12Speaker 3: a sleepover. What's wrong with your bed? What's happened? No,
- 3:19Speaker 3: nothing that I just want to say, what for? What's
- 3:21Speaker 3: wrong with your room?
- 3:23Speaker 6: School camp?
- 3:24Speaker 2: Never went on school camp?
- 3:25Speaker 3: Never really No no, no, no, no snakes, spiders, You're
- 3:30Speaker 3: not going no, no, It's just we've got no sleeping bags.
- 3:33Speaker 6: It's going to rain, you know, like food, like your lunch.
- 3:37Speaker 5: For school would have been restlessly.
- 3:39Speaker 6: But mum, so the rest of us trying to swap
- 3:45Speaker 6: your salami sandwich.
- 3:47Speaker 7: I was going to say, trying to bring home your
- 3:49Speaker 7: your girlfriend. She's not a skip, is she? But then,
- 3:53Speaker 7: but then your mother was a skip, so that's okay.
- 3:55Speaker 2: The food was funny.
- 3:56Speaker 3: You're right about the food that because the Italians they're
- 3:59Speaker 3: huge into their food.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And I remember going to my uncle's.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Garage and they always have a fridge in the garage
- 4:04Speaker 3: and on a hot day and you go in there
- 4:05Speaker 3: and I.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Thought I'd struck gold. There's all these ice.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Cream containers, Neapolitan ice cream, blah blah blah. Pulled one out,
- 4:12Speaker 3: open up tomatoes, tomatoes, tomato sauce. And I think it
- 4:19Speaker 3: really came home to me when I was helping my
- 4:21Speaker 3: uncle Peter.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I used to Pietro, but now it was Peter.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And when he came to Australia, actually barras we added
- 4:26Speaker 3: a h as well, so the skips could say.
- 4:30Speaker 6: He's had a Barrick and all that sort of stuff.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah, And anyway, he wanted to get a service for
- 4:36Speaker 3: his hr hold and he loved his car, and he
- 4:38Speaker 3: goes get the teledex, find the mechanic, get the number
- 4:41Speaker 3: for the mechanic, and the tellerdecks.
- 4:43Speaker 6: Remember the teledexes.
- 4:45Speaker 3: So I go to M for mechanic. Nothing mechanical, see
- 4:49Speaker 3: for car nothing there.
- 4:50Speaker 2: A for auto. Uncle Peter, what letter for the mechanic
- 4:54Speaker 2: under he goes.
- 4:55Speaker 6: F F Yeah, F for fixing the car.
- 5:03Speaker 7: Of course, of course, did you ever read that book
- 5:07Speaker 7: They're a Weird Mob explained the whole cultural clash.
- 5:12Speaker 2: So I think I've got you know.
- 5:13Speaker 3: So I'm such an admirer of the immigrant story, and
- 5:16Speaker 3: you know what people did in the generation that built
- 5:19Speaker 3: something from nothing when they came here and looking through.
- 5:21Speaker 2: The Australian dream.
- 5:22Speaker 3: So I think my dadd came in nineteen fifty from Germany,
- 5:26Speaker 3: actually was born in Rome, and so all that, with
- 5:28Speaker 3: all those boundaries and you know borders after the war,
- 5:31Speaker 3: No I knew exactly where you're from.
- 5:32Speaker 6: Who are going to go for?
- 5:34Speaker 4: That's a big question in conclusion.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Given that Italy is out, I'm going for Croatia. Well, Australia, Australia.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You never know Australia. If Australia plays Croatia then I'm really.
- 5:46Speaker 5: What's going to happen?
- 5:48Speaker 4: What would Dad do?
- 5:49Speaker 5: Barah?
- 5:50Speaker 8: Yes, there's been a bit of a dog fight this
- 5:52Speaker 8: week regarding the Bulldog's mascot Sunny.
- 5:58Speaker 5: She's a British bulldog of course.
- 6:00Speaker 8: She actually is the younger sister of their former mascot Caesar,
- 6:03Speaker 8: and took over officially last year when Caesar retired.
- 6:07Speaker 3: And she's beautiful little dog too. She is a kiss
- 6:10Speaker 3: and what have they tried to ban her?
- 6:11Speaker 4: Have they no dogs on the ground?
- 6:13Speaker 8: Marvel Stadium said, Sonny can't come onto the grass pre game.
- 6:19Speaker 5: What do they think she's She's having a Wii or something?
- 6:21Speaker 4: Want to get a doggie bag?
- 6:23Speaker 3: So thirty six blokes in footy boots are apparently no
- 6:27Speaker 3: thread at all or what I mean compared to Sonny.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I mean she rolls over.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Have you seen she rolls over in her back and
- 6:33Speaker 3: asks for Belly's. Well, oh, okay, so I'm amazed because
- 6:39Speaker 3: the Eagles are still they can still have a bald
- 6:40Speaker 3: eagle flying.
- 6:41Speaker 6: Around their stadium. They've got no problem with that.
- 6:45Speaker 4: God knows what he can drop on the ground from
- 6:47Speaker 4: up there.
- 6:48Speaker 8: Well they did reverse the band toot sweet because there
- 6:51Speaker 8: was an absolute outcry from the fans.
- 6:55Speaker 5: It not just bulldog fans, just football fans.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I reckon, that tells you something about Australia. And you know,
- 7:02Speaker 3: people power really.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Unites, you know, behind our dogs.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You threaten a.
- 7:06Speaker 6: Dog could unite Australia against you, you know what I mean?
- 7:10Speaker 4: Like a pretty good at telling people to stick their rules.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Up there, we see a beautiful dog and it's obviously
- 7:18Speaker 3: someone who made the decision never owned a dog, right
- 7:20Speaker 3: because the rest of us just want to pat the dog.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And they see a four legged turf vandle get him off,
- 7:26Speaker 3: Get him off, he's going to we on.
- 7:28Speaker 4: That doesn't look like a V. I think that dog
- 7:31Speaker 4: looks like it's got the energy.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Must have been a cat person who made the cat
- 7:36Speaker 3: person who made.
- 7:37Speaker 4: For sure, someone at Geelong, you think.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Because they do play a really good role. The Dockers
- 7:41Speaker 3: have a wellbeing dog dog. Winnie's a godle. Do you
- 7:46Speaker 3: know what a good golden Retriever poodle? American friends said,
- 7:52Speaker 3: that's called a golden doodle.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Yes, that's not going to work in Australia. I'm pretty sure.
- 8:00Speaker 8: For a period of just you know, cross and everything,
- 8:03Speaker 8: so you could call it a doodle.
- 8:04Speaker 5: We're really grown up.
- 8:05Speaker 4: No barrel, we don't on the phone.
- 8:08Speaker 8: On one of the Facebook comments after the band was
- 8:11Speaker 8: announced and then reversed was regarding Ossie the Eagle. Someone said,
- 8:15Speaker 8: Ossie doesn't fly anymore before our home games because apparently
- 8:18Speaker 8: Optus won't let her train.
- 8:20Speaker 5: There is that true?
- 8:22Speaker 2: I haven't heard that. No, you might have broken some
- 8:24Speaker 2: news there.
- 8:27Speaker 8: This was a comment from someone on the on the
- 8:29Speaker 8: Facebook comments in regard to Sonny.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So she just gets rolled out Ossie the Eagle, but
- 8:36Speaker 2: doesn't get to fly, right.
- 8:39Speaker 5: She did take off one day, didn't she.
- 8:40Speaker 6: Yeah, She's like, I'm off jack of this.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I'm gone near the hot chips. I think.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah, the smell of chips can drive you mad. There's
- 8:50Speaker 3: no doubt about that. So I thought they thought Sonny
- 8:53Speaker 3: was a threat to the turf. I mean, that's like saying,
- 8:55Speaker 3: what Bluey's too edgy for children's television or something like that.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Don't you reckon?
- 9:00Speaker 4: You could be an adult.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Only leave the bloody dog alone. I think Australia voted
- 9:05Speaker 2: in the end.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Anyway, we will check that out about the angle sunny Stays.
- 9:10Speaker 4: She's back on sunny Stays. We love dogs, not.
- 9:13Speaker 8: Like she's lifting her leg against Marcus Bond and Pelly
- 9:15Speaker 8: or something.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Would even mine.
- 9:19Speaker 7: Or you don't, wouldn't you? Wouldn't you do it when
- 9:20Speaker 7: you do it against an opposition?
- 9:23Speaker 6: Exactly to Nick, exactly, good dog, good dog, your target
