  will walk away saying, Oh yeah, hey guys, that's living with

  this. I'm like, no, it was living IN.

  It's like living in Disney. Like we live in Disney.

  Gosh, if only. And they're right over my left,

  my right hand shoulder. So they're ready to go for

  purpose. My my supply table with look at

  this. I'm going to step aside this so

  people get a little sneak peek. That table right there is the

  the pins ready to reloaded and ready to go.

  All the equipment that I need. So I don't forget anything is

  We have been to this show twice. We went last year, excuse me and

  the year before that. It's a fun event.

  I certainly am not into pins. We've all seen the the pin

  trading that has just grab hold of of Corey now and it's.

  Like. Taking over him.

  But that's OK, he enjoys it and that's what it's all about.

  And so when we bring up our guest, you'll see that our guest
• 2:31
  is not afraid of collecting a pin either.

  My pin board is over there and I don't show it on stream because

  it's pretty sad. I think I have maybe 10 pins
• 2:42
  over there. Most of what I have over there
• 2:44
  is the buttons that you get in the park, which don't really
• 2:48
  count. I can't trade.

  Those. I can't.

  We recently just tossed we, you know, we've been going through,
• 2:54
  you know, we had been going through this past summer, but
• 2:56
  like thinning things out and we actually tossed a lot of
• 2:59
  buttons, you know, 'cause they sit in a bag and it's like it,

  it's something you, you want to keep.

  For us, we've eliminated a bunch.

  We still have a few from Melani and some of the special ones.

  You still have special ones though.

  I mean, I think I kept one that we had like 300 subscribers

  celebrating 300 subscribers. You know, I have some milestone

  So tell us a little bit about NC Disney Anna, your involvement

  with it, and what we can expect from this this weekend. 1st,

  thank you for being a, a repeat convention attendee.

  We, we appreciate it. And you know, without people who

  have been very strongly advocating for these events, we
• 7:04
  wouldn't have one this year, frankly.

  You know, we had a former president, her name was
• 7:09
  Elizabeth. She's gotten us to this point
• 7:10
  for five years. And unfortunately, due to health
• 7:13
  reasons, we weren't able to have an event this year.
• 7:15
  And she said, Brian, would you mind taking charge of this, this
• 7:18
  thing I built? And first thing I did was I sent
• 7:21
  a survey out and within a couple of days, I got dozens and dozens
• 7:27
  of responses from people saying, please don't let this convention
• 7:30
  not happen this year. And so lo and behold, here we
• 7:35
  come up Saturday, October 4th in Durham, a free airport shuttle
• 7:39
  for those flying in, complimentary parking at RTP
• 7:45
  Airport hotel there. DoubleTree, Please, please,
• 7:48
  please come. It's going to be a great time.

  And as as you can attest to from being there multiple times, it's
• 7:53
  a fun event. I'll tell you what, what stuck
• 7:56
  out to me the first year I went because I thought, OK, it's pin
• 8:01
  trading, I'll go, I'll cover the event and and that'll be it.

  But I didn't realize the amount of vendors that are there
• 8:09
  selling stuff. And then I think Locanum was
• 8:12
  probably added last year. So I don't think Locana was the
• 8:16
  year before that. But I mean, it's just, it's just
• 8:19
  grown into so many different things.

  Yeah, we have pop someone's doing Disney beads, popcorn
• 8:26
  buckets. Someone was asking me, you know,
• 8:28
  Brian, is this only pins? I'm like, no, we have, we have a
• 8:31
  good chunk of people who are doing non pins and pins are
• 8:35
  exploding. We have pins as well.

  So I'm going to be doing like pinfolio boards, binders,
• 8:41
  different little prizes for people.

  For the first time ever, we're going to be doing a bingo event
• 8:47
  and it's called Pingo. So how it's going to work is
• 8:50
  like everyone can bring an authentic carded pin or take one
• 8:54
  from a vendor, play bingo, and then you can win a whole prize
• 8:57
  pool full, full of pens. So we're trying to do some new
• 9:02
  things as well to, to keep folks engaged.

  We're going to have door prizes every single hour.
• 9:09
  So it's going to be, it's going to be fun.

  And what do we know what the door prizes are?

  Well, that's a nice transition. So I'll I'll I'll show someone

  have is a yard blow up. And it's funny, I got it last

  year and I bought it at Lowe's and it was on sales like a

  couple days before before Halloween.

  And I was like, it's 50% off, I'll take it.

  And I was sitting here doing something and I see flashes

  outside. I'm like, what is going on?

  And I look out the window and people are outside taking
• 11:23
  pictures, just standing in front of it.

  I'm like, yes. That's how you notice it when
• 11:28
  you're in your neighborhood, when your home is an attraction
• 11:31
  in and of itself. You know.

  You just got to pin something on Google Maps.

  Head to Lawrence's right there. That's it.

  That's it. Yeah.

  So it. So we had, we had fun with that.

  So, so were you, So did you get involved with it by being a pen
• 11:45
  trader or did you, did you have a, have you had tables or what
• 11:49
  was your involvement? So my first pin event, it was
• 11:53
  right into the pandemic and how I kind of got into pin trading
• 11:56
  was out of some sadness where I had collected pins.
• 12:02
  Once I went to Disneyland when I was six years old, and I got a
• 12:05
  bunch of pins and I was excited. And then when moving from
• 12:08
  California to North Carolina, someone had stolen those pins
• 12:11
  that I had as a child. They and I had no longer had
• 12:16
  those pins. So when I got to North Carolina,
• 12:17
  I was like, I wonder if there's some group of people who have
• 12:22
  pins, collect pins. And as you can see behind me,
• 12:26
  they kind of hooked me in very quick.
• 12:30
  So this, this is what you're seeing behind me is just some of
• 12:33
  a four year long journey. I, I collect aristocats pins
• 12:37
  myself. But really what I found was, you
• 12:39
  know, I like the pins. Like, don't get me wrong, I, I
• 12:41
  like the pins clearly, but really it was the community that
• 12:45
  got me. The people here are so friendly
• 12:47
  and I'm sure California, Florida people are friendly, but North
• 12:52
  Carolina is like an extra layer of some, some Southern kindness.
• 12:56
  And so it's really just a very nice group of people.
• 12:59
  And you, you've probably gone to some events where it's like
• 13:01
  people are looking for reasons to say no to trades.
• 13:04
  You know, here in North Carolina, people will actively
• 13:07
  go out of their way to try and get people the trades they want.
• 13:11
  And so I really fell in love with that community.
• 13:14
  And my first event I had like a dozen pins, unlike some bubble
• 13:20
  wrap from a post office package. And it's evolved or devolved
• 13:25
  depending on your perspective over the last few years for
• 13:29
  sure. Wow.
• 13:31
  Do you have any that are, excuse me, special to you, you know, do
• 13:37
  you keep them separate from the rest of them or?
• 13:39
  Well, I mean, I have, I'm looking at it wouldn't even fit
• 13:42
  on on screen, but I have, I'm looking at my whole Aristocats
• 13:45
  board. There's a few different ones.
• 13:48
  And Aristocats was a movie that my wife and and her family had
• 13:55
  kind of enjoyed and I got into it.
• 13:58
  I kind of low key joke that it's like my favorite worst Disney
• 14:02
  movie. It's nothing.
• 14:03
  Nothing's wrong with the animation style of Aristocats.
• 14:05
  It's just a little weird. But I just fell in love with it.

  And so that is how I started collecting Aristocat pins and
• 14:14
  that that is my my big personal collection.

  Funny enough that my daughter who's 6 aristocats is probably
• 14:23
  one of her favorite movies. Disney, well probably any movie
• 14:27
  because she loves cats. Like Maria is her favorite
• 14:31
  character, so we watch that one here pretty often.

  It's coming up on the 55th anniversary.
• 14:38
  There you got you got your Marie.

  Sweet dreams. Yes, that's for Lawrence right

  there. He texted me the other night.

  So what I've been doing is we have a new tradition on the

  channel where if we raise a small target goal, cause pins

  are expensive, they're expensive.

  We reach a small target goal just to take the edge off, you
• 14:57
  know, a $45.00 pack. We'll go get one and we'll,
• 15:01
  we'll, we'll reveal that's a mouthful of what we have in
• 15:05
  there. And then we decide and I try to
• 15:07
  keep the our viewers involved with, with this too.

  OK, we've already bought 1 pack of, of the the sleepy ones.

  We're gone to our second or third pack.
• 15:17
  And this is what we have so far. Let's see what we've got.

  And I open them and I reveal them to them first.

  I don't get to see them. And so it just so happens I got
• 15:25
  a, a, a duplicate of Marie and Lawrence texted me right away

  and said I know a special little girl who would like that Marie

  pit. So that's so nice.

  about what you said about just you know, how people at at your
• 15:41
  event just will go out of their way to make trades.

  And now pin training has exploded so much in Walt Disney

  World. There there are places in in,

  you know, Disney has no problem with it.

  I guess. Why would they?

  But you know, Disney's picky with anything that's going on in
• 15:58
  their parks without them overlooking it.

  But it's amazing where if you gone to Epcot in since the
• 16:04
  remodel where they have creations, the creation store
• 16:09
  and oh God, connections, connections, creation and
• 16:13
  connections right there. Well, there's like an alleyway
• 16:15
  there. Did you did you ever go when
• 16:17
  they had mouse gear, when mouse gear was there and the electric
• 16:20
  umbrella. Does that sound familiar?
• 16:22
  You could say no if anyway there's there's.

  Full, full candor. I went to Disneyland once when I
• 16:28
  was 6 and I have not made it to a park.
• 16:31
  Astonishingly, people are floored when I tell them I've
• 16:34
  not been to Disneyland or Disney World since that time I was six
• 16:37
  years old. It's crazy.
• 16:39
  That you wouldn't believe that I was I, I hadn't gone until I was
• 16:44
  like 31, something like that. So.
• 16:46
  I mean, it's not for lack of desire, certainly for.
• 16:49
  Sure, for sure. Anyway, there's there's just
• 16:50
  this, this path, this walkway through with some benches for
• 16:54
  people to rest and some chairs and tables.

  And it's been taken over on a daily basis by pin collectors
• 17:00
  and they just take those big folk, big, those big pin folios,
• 17:03
  lay them out. And it's, it's become a place
• 17:06
  where people can go and feel comfortable trading.
• 17:09
  And I found that, you know, Disney people are great people,
• 17:14
  big hearts, very nice, you know, and all that.
• 17:16
  But it gets plussed up with the pens.
• 17:18
  I feel like people are extra nice.
• 17:20
  I'm just blown away by what I do now is I'll buy like 3 packs or
• 17:24
  something. And I don't know if you have a
• 17:25
  strategy with this, but here's I'm forming strategies because
• 17:28
  that's what I OK, tell me your. Secret.
• 17:31
  So OK, well I'll, I'll say this quick so you can talk more.
• 17:34
  Say with the sleepy ones, there's 16 in the pack or 16 for
• 17:39
  the collection. So you get 5 per pack.
• 17:42
  So once I've reached the third pack, I have 15 pins.
• 17:46
  So hopefully, I'm hoping at least I have 10 or 11 maybe or
• 17:51
  10 that are not duplicates. And I can take those other
• 17:55
  duplicates now and confidently go over to Epcot and try to
• 17:59
  trade those for the ones I need. And what I found is people will,
• 18:03
  a lot of people will, will keep the, you know, their books are
• 18:05
  open and they'll just say, what do you, what do you need?
• 18:07
  Well, I'm trying to finish this set.
• 18:09
  OK, here, I got these two that you need.
• 18:12
  OK, Is there and I'll show them, you know, is there anything that
• 18:14
  you want? I don't care.
• 18:15
  Just give me two pens and I want you to finish your set.

  I get that a lot and I'm blown away by that kindness.
• 18:21
  Yeah, I mean it. I, I'd say the, the story that
• 18:27
  kind of stands out to me was, you know, when we at times there
• 18:30
  are people who get into pin collecting and it's their first
• 18:33
  event and they get like, you know, a bunch of scrappers on
• 18:36
  eBay or something like that or fake, fake pins.
• 18:38
  And they think, you know, I got for $25, I just got 100 pins or
• 18:43
  something like that. And So what we have at our
• 18:46
  events is, is usually, if that from time to time that happens
• 18:50
  to be the case, we will try and fine.
• 18:53
  If there's a child who's unhappy, we will find him a
• 18:55
  mystery box. We will try and find them
• 18:57
  something that is an authentic pin that they can just have and
• 19:00
  trade for. And you know, I think that's,
• 19:03
  that's part of the fun of it is the trading aspect to it,
• 19:06
  because if you try and get everything, try and try hard to
• 19:11
  get everything you want, you can end up with something like this.
• 19:15
  So, you know, you need the trading community out there.
• 19:18
  You need it for a reason. And, and everyone here is so
• 19:20
  kind. And I, I will say our events
• 19:23
  have grown as well. We had like 25 people out of
• 19:26
  Triangle meet up like a year and a half ago, like we just had
• 19:29
  last July, this, this July, a couple months ago, 116 people.

  That's not the big convention. That is the every other month
• 19:37
  triangle group that meets. So it has gone crazy in the past
• 19:42
  couple years, this this pin community.
• 19:46
  So I assume that the pins behind you those are non tradables like
• 19:49
  those are there for good, they're cemented.
• 19:52
  See, well, there, I will say this was we had a, a Facebook
• 19:56
  thread on our Disney on a Facebook page and I just said,
• 19:59
  you know, comment with something that you're in search of or
• 20:01
  that's on your ISO. Someone said, I collect rock and
• 20:04
  roller coaster. So I took something that was off
• 20:06
  of one of these boards that I had because, you know, I, I, I'm
• 20:08
  OK partying with it. I'd rather have a pin go to
• 20:11
  someone who truly needs and appreciates it.
• 20:14
  And so you'll see a rock and roller coaster pin from this
• 20:17
  board going to the event because someone said, hey, I collect
• 20:20
  that and I'm like, sure, I'll bring it.
• 20:21
  So never. The answer is no to 100% of the
• 20:25
  questions you don't ask. That is true.
• 20:32

  Sharon wants to know how can you tell as a beginner that a PIN
• 20:37
  isn't authentic? That is a great question.
• 20:42
  So there's a few different things that I like to say it
• 20:46
  really my first tip is go on your phone, do a Google reverse
• 20:52
  image search just by downloading the Google app.
• 20:54
  There's a camera icon and you can take a close up of that pin.
• 20:59
  And then what comes out of that is you can see all other pins
• 21:03
  that are like that. So it'll do like a reverse image
• 21:05
  search. It'll show you eBay listings,
• 21:07
  pin pics, listings, and my my first recommendation is always
• 21:11
  just see what else of that pin is out there and if there's any
• 21:14
  differences you notice. Sometimes it's hard to tell
• 21:17
  online but in person if you have a pen in front of you, the
• 21:20
  biggest tells are kind of like the weight of the pin.
• 21:24
  Another one is misspellings, as silly as that sounds.
• 21:28
  I've seen so many people who fake pins and can't spell
• 21:34
  Disney. It happens on on some of these
• 21:36
  scrapper pins. You'd be surprised.
• 21:38
  Who would have thought Disney had an L instead of an I like
• 21:41
  basic things like that can happen.
• 21:43
  So check the back of the pin, not just the front.
• 21:45
  Check for spelling at the bottom of the pin, especially the newer
• 21:50
  ones. You will see like an.
• 21:53
  It's hard to tell, but there's like an FAC number on the bottom
• 21:56
  of it and some of them, they all should have a hyphen and some
• 22:02
  pins just don't have a hyphen. So that's a way to tell.
• 22:04
  Another way to tell is the spacing of of pins, the spacing
• 22:09
  of waffles. So there's a whole bunch of
• 22:11
  different ways to tell, but my best tip for anyone is just
• 22:16
  First things first. If you get a pen, you're like, I
• 22:18
  don't know and there's not an in person event.
• 22:21
  Go to pen pics, do a reverse image search, go to eBay and see
• 22:25
  what other similar pins there are.
• 22:27
  And that will kind of tell you usually pretty well if
• 22:32
  something's authentic or not. And the other bit best tip I
• 22:35
  have is if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
• 22:40
  So if there's like hidden Mickey caser pins that someone has put
• 22:45
  online for like $2.00, it's probably not real.
• 22:49
  If if there's like a cursive cutie Disney Studio store
• 22:53
  Hollywood pin that is like $30, that's probably not a real pin.
• 22:59
  So there are some things you can just tell based on the pricing
• 23:01
  as well. But at our events, we also have
• 23:06
  there's someone named Ashley who's going to be up at the
• 23:08

  A volunteer is going to go around the room and collect

  carded pin, you'll put it in a bag and they'll hand you a bingo

  card and then we'll get the bingo game started.

  We'll call out the numbers and first one to get bingo gets all

  of those pins. And if multiple people get bingo

  at the same time, then it's split.

  So you, you get part of the pile.

  But the fun doesn't end there because we don't want, you know,

  when someone gets bingo, your first reaction isn't great for

  lineup to get into the store on the Tuesday morning.

  So it was all a learning experience for me, but depends

  So you know, we're long time Disney goers so my wife kind of

  got me dragged into it, which usually what happens with a lot

  So she's yeah, opposite. So anyways, so so we've been

  going to Disney like before we even have kids.

  So like we're talking like 15 years and it wasn't really until

  recent where I started to get the idea of, you know, kind of

  vlogging our, you know, kind of trips and experiences.

  And it, it was kind of a moment that I had with, with our kids

  because our kids are kind of ready in that like prime Disney

  Age. So, you know, they're 10 and six

  years old and, you know, they just loved just flipping through
• 35:19
  the photos on their iPads after our trips and looking back and
• 35:22
  remembering everything. And, you know, one time, you
• 35:26
  know, my son goes, where's the rest of the video, dad?
• 35:29
  And I'm like, what are you talking about?
• 35:31
  I'm like, this is a picture. And you know, when you take the
• 35:33
  pictures with the with the live setting on it and you get maybe
• 35:36
  that one or two seconds before you actually see the picture?
• 35:40
  Sure. So so he was under the
• 35:42
  impression that it was a video. And I was like, no, it's not a
• 35:46
  video. And, you know, seeing how much
• 35:50
  passion they had in going back and looking at our trips, I was
• 35:53
  like, why don't I just start videoing them instead of taking
• 35:56
  photos? And one thing kind of led to
• 35:59
  another. And yeah, I just started, you

  know, just picking up the camera and hitting record instead of
• 36:06
  take a picture. And it's kind of been a learning
• 36:08
  experience ever since because I've only been doing it for
• 36:10
  about a year now. But yeah, it's more so, you

  know, something for our kids to go back and look on.

  And it's also quite fun to do. So combination of the two.

  Yeah, you know, it's so funny. I, I, I'm sure Corey will, will

  jump in on the same feeling. But my daughter started.

  So we met Corey in 22 October 1st, 2022.

  So that was the first time we were on a live stream.

  So, so three years ago, you know, tomorrow, I have all of

  a simple web page where I can post articles and we can tell

  people about our Disney adventures on on a weekly basis

  and, and tips and tricks and how to do Disney better as we learn

  it. But I wasn't patient back then.

  I know how all this stuff really worked.

  I wasn't getting a lot of hits on the articles, but it was only

  like a month or two in. So I decided for, well, the kids

  were into YouTube at the time. I think they were the first

  generation to kind of watch YouTube a lot and and then

  follow certain channels with other children in them.

  So I just looked at them and that's kind of what made me say,

  do you guys just want to try to be on YouTube and maybe we can

  do this on YouTube instead? And that's, that's how it

  started. Just just like that, you know,

  nothing glitzy or glamorous about what might happen down the

  line. Just hey, let's, let's just do

  this and share with people on video.

  And then we're going to have all these home videos for years.

  And I didn't even know we'd do it for years.

  But but years and years to come. My kids can look back right now

  on 7 1/2 years of stuff. That's amazing.

  Yeah, and, and you know, we, we had a had to have a good

  conversation, my wife and I, when we did Disney's Aulani 3

  years ago because I said, OK, this, this is our first time in

  Hawaii. It's a trip of a lifetime.

  How do you want to handle this in terms of vlogging or being

  live? We want to make sure we're

  enjoying this and taking it all in.

  And what it really boiled down to was I said to her, you know

  what? For years, even before kids, you

  and I have been going on vacation.

  What do I do? I have a camcorder in my hand

  the entire time. I'm filming all the time anyway.

  So I said, why don't we just do it like we do it.

  And she said if this is a point we want to, you want to just

  stop or or do something else, do it.

  So we we vlogged and live streams so much, but it didn't

  take anything away from our enjoyment because it's what we

  did anyway. And now we have all this stuff.

  If it's great, keep doing it. It's funny they say that because

  if you think, because I'm I'm an 80s kid.

  So, you know, growing up, you know, camcorders and you know,

  the JVC's with your dad's like this, you know, those were the

  things back in the day, you know, and then and then, you

  know, they're just at the birthday parties or, or, or

  Christmas is walking around like this.

  And you know, we kind of went through a phase where where

  where video was kind of out for a bit.

  You know, it was more just photos.

  And I think only recently, you know, kind of the post covet

  era, have you really seen a resurgence back up into the

  videos and the blogging. So.

  But yeah, so that's kind of what I did.

  You know, it's, it's just crazy because, you know, I'll, I'll

  upload a new video, for example, you know, when the kids are

  sleeping because that's when I do a lot of my work.

  And they'll wake up in the morning because they'll have

  their iPad in their bedroom and like, oh, Dad, I watched your

  new video last this morning. When did you upload it?

  Why didn't you tell me about it? So but so they really get a

  thrill out of it. And like you said, it's great

  memories to look back onto. And yeah, so I kind of had to

  put like a bit of a spin or like a niche on the channel.

  So that's kind of why I went like the Disney dad route just

  because in the videos I try to, you know, kind of show some of,

  you know, the the work that the Disney dads have to do while at

  Disney to make the magic happen. There's there's a lot of a lot

  of hidden things that go unnoticed other than booking

  lightning lanes and making dining reservations.

  So, so yeah, I try to kind of show, show the not so glamorous

  side of things. But yeah, so that's kind of, you

  know, the reason why I started the channel.

  And, you know, it's this combination of like a passion

  for Disney, something for our kids to look back onto, and it's

  actually something that I enjoy doing.

  the kids for a week to kind of end off their summer vacation.

  And then my wife and I went back and actually just did a solo

  trip. So we were there last week.

  It's our first solo trip that we've done and I can't even tell

  you how long. So we did that.

  And then our next planned trip is we're going down in December

  for for the Christmas party. So we asked the kids what they

  wanted. We asked the kids what they

  wanted for Christmas this year. And we gave them various

  options. And one of them was to have

  tickets to go to the to the Christmas party.

  And that's what they chose. So that's what we're going to be

  doing. So yeah.

  change, but on average, I'd say that's what we do.

  When In December are you going? So we were going the week just

  before Christmas. So we were going like the 15th

  Then it gives us enough time to get back and do Christmas with

  forward to the Christmas party because my wife and I, we were

  supposed to go to the Not So Scary Halloween party last week

  and it just poured, poured green full time.

  So, so we didn't even really, we were yeah, yeah, yeah.

  So it's like, you know, all day, it was like, you know, 4:00, it

  was sunny, it was nice out. And then we went into the Beacon

  Barrel to have a couple of drinks before the party and to

  check out the new bar there. And then we came out in the sky,

  which is just so black. And then we went on the radar on

  our phones and were like, oh, this is not going to be good.

  So we were we were out of there by 8:30 because they just

  cancelled everything. So yeah, so, but yeah, so it was

  quite the experience because we did do the Not So Scary party

  last year with our kids and basically they're just just

  trick or treating the whole time.

  So we wanted to actually do like some adult stuff because their

  main goal is to literally get as much candy as possible.

  So we're trying to do some adult stuff this time to see some of

  the shows. But yeah, that backfired pretty

  bad. So how different is it doing a

  family trip versus a adult only trip?

  Yeah, that's a good question. It's not too different, as weird

  as it may sound like we're we're pretty park people, so we like

  being in the parks and we're both early risers.

  So, you know, our kids have just programmed us that way.

  No matter what we're like, we're going to sleep in to 7:00 today.
