- 0:00Coming up on this episode of The Spiro podcast.
- 0:04I started mine because I want to make a lot of money doing it.
- 0:07I still wish that
- 0:08I had a better reason, but I think it's connecting some to some other reasons.
- 0:12This is not a bad thing.
- 0:14Like you have the ability to make money and you can impact others with that money.
- 0:19I begin viewing it from that perspective of
- 0:22how can I impact people now
- 0:26with the ability to do this?
- 0:28or what this is allow me to do
- 0:31Welcome to the Spiro Podcast.

- 1:08we just want to welcome you and, give you a brief explanation.
- 1:12The Spiro podcast is really all about
- 1:14helping you build a solid real estate media business.
- 1:18We've said this before in past episodes.
- 1:20There's tons of great materials out there.
- 1:22On the creative side of what we do is real estate media professionals.
- 1:26But we really wanted to dive in into how to run just a good, solid business
- 1:31and how to help you.
- 1:32Really like, like we said before, grow the business.
- 1:35So welcome back.
- 1:37Let me introduce our, our,
- 1:39podcast co-host, and Spiro owner and founder, Todd Kivimaki
- 1:44it's it's, right around the corner.
- 1:48Todd. Right around the corner.
- 1:49- Spring is knocking on the door, - It sure is.
- 1:52You know, we are getting close to spring,
- 1:55which translates to busy season for many of us.
- 1:59And, you know, maybe a change of pace.
- 2:03I was talking to a group,
- 2:05yesterday just about the idea of.
- 2:08You don't have many weeks left.
- 2:10If you want to get something done, it's got to be here soon.
- 2:13Because if especially if you still do a lot of shooting,
- 2:17you, you don't have much time.
- 2:19And even if you don't do a lot of shooting,
- 2:21your ability to schedule appointments with clients
- 2:25is going to drastically go downhill because your clients are going
- 2:28to be in busy season.
- 2:29So a little bit of a change in mindset here.
- 2:31You know, connecting everything back to the business of
- 2:35and looking at that strategically, you know, over the course of 20 years
- 2:3921 years this is year 21 for me.
- 2:42You know, you just start to pick up on those little things.
- 2:44So just a quick reminder. Many of you know it.
- 2:46But if you want to get something done,
- 2:47you better call that agent if you want to get in front of them.
- 2:50Because in about two or 3 or 4 weeks, they're like, sorry, I can't talk
- 2:53- until November - right
- 2:56And that's exactly what I'm dealing with right now.
- 2:58Todd, you know,
- 2:59I've got the dual role of business development specialist for for my market,
- 3:03but also the main photographer for my, my market.
- 3:06And I'm basically had to tell some agents, hey, if we're going to meet,
- 3:10we've got to do it really in the next two weeks or so,
- 3:13because once the floodgates open, I'm going to be busy shooting.
- 3:16So I'd like to try and get those those face to face meetings done
- 3:20during that slower period.
- 3:21But and yeah, once spring market kicks in, at least for the northern hemisphere
- 3:24here, those of you
- 3:25watching Down Under or listening Down Under, obviously, you know, different,
- 3:29different time of year for you.
- 3:30But yeah, we're going to be ramping up pretty quick.
- 3:32I've had a lot of agents in our market
- 3:34say I've got a lot of things in the pipeline.
- 3:36It's been a slow February, but it's going to be coming.
- 3:40It sure is.
- 3:42You know one thing and this may be just jump right into our to a first topic here,
- 3:45but as a business owner, I feel pretty strongly that
- 3:49you should look at a year long calendar.
- 3:53I, I have a coach that he had taught this technique and I have,
- 3:58I have a 12 month calendar up on my wall over here to my right.
- 4:02And it's a, it's an erasable calendar.
- 4:06So, it has January through December and months
- 4:10and this is probably, I don't know, 3.5ft by maybe four feet by three feet.
- 4:15And I got it on the Amazon and it comes to you
- 4:18and it comes with, wet erase markers and dry erase marker.
- 4:22So wet erase is where you write the days of the,
- 4:27of the week in there.
- 4:28And then you have to use a wet rag to get rid of those
- 4:31for the next year, and you have to rewrite them.
- 4:33But it's just nice
- 4:34because you can look ahead and you can see because time compacts.
- 4:38And as you get into business and, and just getting older, I don't know what it is.
- 4:44I, had to figure it all out yet, but I'm just going to go faster.
- 4:49And things that use and the amount of time that you think
- 4:52you have now, you're going to look back and be like, wow, I had so much time.
- 4:56I think being able to understand that
- 4:59you, you ultimately control your time.
- 5:02And when you feel like you are in control of your time,
- 5:05at least that's when I feel like I'm more productive.
- 5:07- I don't know about you, Craig. - Yeah, for sure.
- 5:10If if you don't manage your time, somebody else will do it for you.
- 5:13Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Oh, I love that, Craig.
- 5:16If you don't manage your time, somebody else will do it for you. Yes.
- 5:19And they don't care about your time.
- 5:21Right.
- 5:21The people that will do it for you, they care about their time.
- 5:24So your time's going to be taken up.
- 5:26Oh, I love that, Craig.
- 5:27Just great to caveat on that.
- 5:29If you if you steal that from me you're stealing twice.
- 5:32Okay.
- 5:33Well same thing with everything I say
- 5:37At least all of the intelligent things I say, because I don't know
- 5:39that I have the ability to come up with those, but.
- 5:41Yeah.
- 5:42Yeah. No, I love that idea.
- 5:44Yeah. So go get it.
- 5:46Go ahead.
- 5:47You had a.
- 5:47Oh, no, I was just going to say make sure you go back an episode
- 5:50or two as well, because we talk about time management and.
- 5:54Yeah, well, all of that and how critically important it is.
- 5:57So make sure you watch and listen to those episodes.
- 6:00Yeah.
- 6:01One more thing that I was going to mention about the calendar is,
- 6:03you know, just looking ahead, you should have, this is just a quick tip.
- 6:07And again, I this you're hearing this from not this is not me.
- 6:10This is hearing it from a coach that coaches this Austin Cheviron.
- 6:16You need to write on that calendar or your personal items first,
- 6:20like the first thing that you're supposed to write on the calendar, right?
- 6:23The birthdays of your family.
- 6:26You know it.
- 6:28Take the day. Take your wife's birthday off.
- 6:31Take your kid's birthdays off.
- 6:33Take your birthday off.
- 6:35Okay.
- 6:35Write those on their anniversary or whatever else is important in there.
- 6:38And then you need to go through
- 6:39and you need to look at what else do I need to write off on here?
- 6:43Look at November and December right now.
- 6:46You don't want to be surprised come November
- 6:50when you stack it too close and you take two days off for Christmas.
- 6:53Yeah, it's.
- 6:55And then you feel burnout and you're like, why am I working so hard?
- 6:58And then what you going to do is you make a dumb purchase decision
- 7:01because you feel like you should buy something big because you work so hard.
- 7:05And I'm not saying you should not, but you should never try
- 7:08to justify your work by a purchase.
- 7:11And maybe that's for another podcast crate,
- 7:13because that's getting pretty deep there.
- 7:15Yeah, but you know, you don't want to get caught up in time.
- 7:19You ultimately control your time.
- 7:21If you want to take three weeks off for Christmas, do it.
- 7:25But plan it now right?
- 7:28You know, Craig, I coached, I coached basketball,
- 7:31I think many of you know, and and, I did an extra team this year.
- 7:35So I typically have always run the youth league.
- 7:37So that's third, fourth, fifth and sixth.
- 7:40So I've run the league and then also I've coached teams in the past.
- 7:45I have two boys in the league and they're in separate age groups.
- 7:48So I've coached two teams in the last couple of years,
- 7:51and I began coaching
- 7:53a little bit older this year at seventh grade,
- 7:56and I loved yeah, I love my group of boys.
- 7:59They were fabulous.
- 8:00And one thing that we tried to teach them, Jimmy, my assistant coach and myself,
- 8:05and he's a big proponent on this is
- 8:08you should never be surprised.
- 8:11you should never be surprised by something.
- 8:13So let's let's take a let's take an analogy of seventh grade basketball mind.
- 8:19So y'all put your 13 year old brain
- 8:23back in your head.
- 8:24do I have to?
- 8:30put your 13 year old brain back in your head
- 8:32and I'm going to give you a real life scenario that happen okay.
- 8:37So in basketball, I'll just set this up a little bit.
- 8:40in basketball, when you have two teams that have
- 8:46a hand on the ball or two hands on the ball, like so,
- 8:49if one person from each team is grabbing the ball each time
- 8:52and they're fighting for it, that's called a jump ball.
- 8:56Okay?
- 8:56So it's not who can rip it out the hardest.
- 8:59You know, they don't want kids getting hurt.
- 9:00So it's like if two kids on opposite teams touch the ball and have,
- 9:04you know, possession of the ball, it's called jump ball.
- 9:07And what that means they alternate which team gets the ball.
- 9:10So team A is going to get the ball the first time.
- 9:13Then the next jump ball team B is going to get the ball.
- 9:16And there's some exceptions to that like at the start of the next quarter.
- 9:19The next team that's supposed to get the ball will take it out.
- 9:22So it's always fair.
- 9:23It's always fair.
- 9:25It's it's A or B okay.
- 9:27And there's actually things in the gym called the possession.
- 9:32The possession arrow that sits at the scores table.
- 9:35That shows an arrow to who gets the next jump ball.
- 9:39Okay.
- 9:40Also they display this on the scoreboard.
- 9:43Who has home and away who has the next possession.
- 9:47So it's very clear and it's not that hard
- 9:50to remember like oh they got it last time we get it.
- 9:53Okay.
- 9:54So I literally had one of my best players say this to me.
- 9:58So it was at a point in the game where things were starting to go a little,
- 10:02little hairy for us.
- 10:03We have a very talented team, but a very emotional team.
- 10:07And we get to the point that this individual gets frustrated
- 10:12and the other team ties him up
- 10:15and it's a jump ball is called okay.
- 10:19Now jump ball is displayed on the scoreboard scores table.
- 10:22And you have a fair amount of these at a seventh grade game.
- 10:27And in this
- 10:28case it happened to be the other team's ball.
- 10:31So we lost possession.
- 10:32It was a turnover okay.
- 10:34When we began playing bad two and everything
- 10:38in this individual's world compacted and felt like it was on his shoulders.
- 10:43And he looked at me and said,
- 10:47this is not fair.
- 10:49They get the jump ball every time.
- 10:55And so this is.
- 10:57Yeah, yeah.
- 10:59I went,
- 11:00so I was like, just go back, run back on defense.
- 11:03And we watched tape.
- 11:05I rerecord the games and we watched tape and like I said, hey, Silas, you know,
- 11:11do you know what you said to me there?
- 11:13Hey, he's like, man.
- 11:15And he and he he kind of knew.
- 11:17And like, I was like you said to me that
- 11:21the game's unfair, that the other team always gets the jump ball. You
- 11:27and you were frustrated, like you had big emotion.
- 11:30That's why I call big emotion. When you're young, you have big emotion.
- 11:32I have big emotions sometimes, you know, and we're human.
- 11:35It's natural to have big emotion
- 11:38now.
- 11:39This was two days later that we were watching film.
- 11:42I said, what did that do for you?
- 11:45That thought in your head, like, you know, that's not true.
- 11:50You were surprised that
- 11:54the jump ball was done.
- 11:56The way the jump ball's done.
- 11:58You know, it's like you should never be surprised in something.
- 12:02So just mentally setting yourself up, right.
- 12:05You know, for business, you know, I can think back at times
- 12:08that I was surprised.
- 12:09I was surprised that we got busy.
- 12:11I didn't manage my calendar well enough.
- 12:14I'm like, oh crap. The phone started ringing.
- 12:16Hey, I was surprised.
- 12:17My wife delivered our first baby.
- 12:20Our first son, 4 or 5 days earlier, maybe was two weeks early.
- 12:25Like Todd, you big dummy.
- 12:26You should never be surprised
- 12:29she told you like, hey, I think I'm going to like,
- 12:31I feel like I'm going to deliver.
- 12:32I'm like, this is the first time we've done this.
- 12:35I had a wedding scheduled.
- 12:37Oh, Todd, what are you doing?
- 12:38Why are you surprised that life happens?
- 12:41Yeah.
- 12:42And in those times, that's what I felt like.
- 12:45I got behind it.
- 12:46I got the defensive. I'm like, man, this is a fair.
- 12:48They get the jump ball every time.
- 12:50When that clearly is not true.
- 12:53So that's what
- 12:56if you can begin managing your business, managing your employees that way,
- 13:00that you are not surprised by situations that happen.
- 13:05You should not be surprised if you have a down month.
- 13:08Yeah it happens. It's business.
- 13:10You should not be surprised when you have an up month.
- 13:13- Yeah, Craig is your thought. - Let me jump in.
- 13:15We we've had some great YouTube comments lately in, in questions
- 13:19and things like that.
- 13:20And I forget who it was.
- 13:22Forgive me if you're watching listening.
- 13:24But they made a comment
- 13:25how they just started their real estate media business during the winter,
- 13:30and they were getting a little down because it's been tough.
- 13:33Things are slow. Right.
- 13:34So they they watched one of our episodes where we talked about how it is slower
- 13:38during this time it'll be heating up
- 13:39and how much of an encouragement that was to them.
- 13:43But yeah, don't be surprised about the cycle of business.
- 13:46Now, obviously for someone new, you might not have thought about that.
- 13:49But that just made me think about that comment
- 13:51that somebody left that they were encouraged to hear.
- 13:54Things are going to turn around.
- 13:55Spring market heats up.
- 13:56They'll be getting more phone calls.
- 13:59Yeah.
- 13:59but yeah, don't be surprised by a down month.
- 14:03And yeah.
- 14:03And when you're not surprised by what what you don't do is
- 14:07you don't emotionally react and you plan for it.
- 14:10Right.
- 14:11And when you plan
- 14:12for things, then you can set yourself up better.
- 14:15You still might have a down month, but you're not emotional.
- 14:19It takes the fight or flight reaction out of your brain.
- 14:23And I know as I look back
- 14:24over the course of years, times I'm like, I wish I could redo.
- 14:27That moment is when I was emotional
- 14:30Yeah.
- 14:31And so much goes into that managing your mental your mental state.
- 14:36Can can I share a personal story.
- 14:39Yeah.
- 14:39Any anything mentally personally Craig I we just gives me opportunity to.
- 14:43No I'm I'm kidding.
- 14:44Yes. Please do. Thank you
- 14:45it's gonna be a moment of transparency.
- 14:48we try to be pretty transparent here
- 14:51in the last two weeks.
- 14:54I kind of hit a crisis point in my, my mental health.
- 14:59You might not tell from how I am right now, but it's partially
- 15:03because I've made some changes to help make that happen.
- 15:06So we have a lot of stressors as business owners, right?
- 15:10Is, is business leaders
- 15:11that, like Todd just said, you shouldn't be surprised by anything?
- 15:15Well, part of that is, is our physical health
- 15:18that I just want to do a PSA here, a public service announcement,
- 15:22make sure that you're careful with your health,
- 15:25making sure that you're getting exercise, and exercise releases endorphins,
- 15:30which of course is our feel good hormones, chemicals.
- 15:33But the way we eat as well.
- 15:35Now I'm diabetic, all right.
- 15:37It's it's hereditary and my dad's side of the family,
- 15:40but also partially
- 15:41because I didn't take care of myself with the way I was eating in, in years past.
- 15:45And it's it caught up with me.
- 15:47So for like the past month or so, Todd, I've not been eating the
- 15:50way I should as a diabetic.
- 15:53yeah, which is dangerous.
- 15:54It is, it is.
- 15:56And I let things pile up on me.
- 15:59Just.
- 16:00I had a stressful situation with a client
- 16:03that actually, he was really cool about things.
- 16:05I was stressing about it more and things just kind of hit a head.
- 16:08And I realized all of a sudden in the shouldn't
- 16:12have been a surprise to me because I've learned this in the past,
- 16:15I just quit thinking about it, how it affects my mental health
- 16:20when I'm eating too many sugars, carbs, things like that.
- 16:24I get into a depressive state and I.
- 16:27I overthink things and I stress about things,
- 16:30and I'm not clear headed and I let things surprise me.
- 16:35So I just want to do, like I said, a health PSA.
- 16:38To those of you that are business owners or leaders in your company,
- 16:43taking
- 16:43care of yourself physically, both exercise and what you're eating.
- 16:46Critically important to making sure you don't let yourself like I did.
- 16:50And this these last two weeks, get into a state of mind
- 16:54that's unhealthy for you yourself, but also everybody around you
- 16:57because it'll affect your family.
- 16:59It'll affect your coworkers.
- 17:01Take care of yourself.
- 17:02Make sure you're eating clean as you can.
- 17:04I mean, yeah, you can splurge now and then, but
- 17:08if you stress eat and I stress eat sometimes,
- 17:11it's going to be a downward spiral.
- 17:12So, yeah, just thinking about all of that with you talking about surprises.
- 17:17You know, Todd, it shouldn't have been a surprise to me.
- 17:19I know this about myself.
- 17:20I've learned that in the last year or two that when I don't eat right
- 17:24mentally, I get into a fog and and not a great place.
- 17:28So I just want to encourage somebody out there that might be dealing
- 17:31with that, too.
- 17:34Hold me accountable.
- 17:35Feel free to drop me an email craig@wowvideotours.com.
- 17:39Craig how you doing with your eating taking care of yourself?
- 17:42I'm going to open myself up there and then I can do the same for you if you want.
- 17:47yeah. Oh, thank you for that Craig. And that is.
- 17:49Yeah, that is, that is super important to take care of yourself to understand that.
- 17:53And it and also one thing that it does it's a it's a continuous spiral down.
- 17:58It is because the the eating bad leads to not feeling great, which leads
- 18:03to eating even worse to continuing to going and going and going and going. So
- 18:08but what helps is having healthy people around you.
- 18:11So I let my leadership know.
- 18:13I did talk to Todd about this.
- 18:14This is actually probably surprise to Todd, me talking about this,
- 18:17but I talked to I talked to Chris, Steve and Jess, who are my
- 18:20my three supervisors on the sales and operations side,
- 18:24and they immediately responded with encouragement.
- 18:27Hey, if you ever need to talk, just call us.
- 18:29I mean, awesome leadership team.
- 18:32So have people around you that you can talk to
- 18:34and just be honest with it, aren't going to judge you,
- 18:36but are going to support you and help you get back on to a healthy track.
- 18:40I so love Craig that you reached out to someone
- 18:43I had to
- 18:44Yeah.
- 18:44And I and I think, I think if you're out there thinking you can do it
- 18:48all, I've had this thought before, I just I'm going to do it.
- 18:52I'm going to push through.
- 18:53Please don't.
- 18:54Yeah. You just as capable as you all are.
- 18:57And you all are a very capable group.
- 19:00Remember, you're a group of overachievers,
- 19:03but do not try to do it alone.
- 19:07It is just not worth it.
- 19:08Depend on others, confide in others.
- 19:11It doesn't have to be everybody. You know. We're not.
- 19:13We're not asking you to just share it with the world if you want to.
- 19:17That's great.
- 19:18And if that's the form of accountability you want, do it.
- 19:21You know, I actually I love that, Craig shares,
- 19:23I love that I love sharing with all of you
- 19:25because I want you all to hold me accountable.
- 19:27If I say I'm going to do something like, I'm going to do what I want to,
- 19:29I want to make sure I hear from you guys like, hey, is that update coming out?
- 19:32Like, yeah, it's coming out March 5th. Yeah.
- 19:35So use the form of accountability that works for you.
- 19:38But if you're an introvert, I talked to one.
- 19:39I had a great, a couple of emails with an individual this weekend.
- 19:44I was proud that he reached out.
- 19:45Said long time listener.
- 19:47You know, I just hired my first photographer.
- 19:50I'm trying to figure out what I do with my time now, okay?
- 19:53I, I, you know, he even used the idea of, like, hey, I'm not a,
- 19:57shiny, 100k per month success story.
- 20:02If that's, you know, I know who this individual is.
- 20:05But if you have that same idea, you know, there are those stories out there
- 20:08and there's those stories where, you know, they're doing
- 20:12100K or 50K a month and just use those as inspiration.
- 20:16It doesn't mean it has to be you.
- 20:18You know, I even look at my business and I know the businesses out there
- 20:21that are larger than us.
- 20:23And when I when I know what revenue we do monthly and what they do
- 20:26monthly, I'm like, man, I feel pretty insignificant.
- 20:30And then I throw that away.
- 20:31I completely throw it away because I'm like, look at this cool thing we have.
- 20:34Our employees are happy.
- 20:35Like, we look at these cool things that happened this month.
- 20:38We hired new individuals, six new photog, whatever it may be.
- 20:41And I try not to give numbers because I'm not.
- 20:43I don't want you to compare anything to what I've done.
- 20:45I've taken a very long time to do this.
- 20:4821 years.
- 20:49If you all work at 21 years, you're going to be way bigger than me.
- 20:53So don't compare.
- 20:54Use it as inspiration, but it's compartmentalizing
- 20:57some of those things and understanding that.
- 20:59You got to define success for yourself.
- 21:01Yes, yes.
- 21:03And that is so important as a business owner, I hope you have done that.
- 21:06If you haven't or if it needs revamp, go back and find that page
- 21:09in your notebook where you wrote down, you know your goals
- 21:14and you wrote down what success means or have that conversation again.
- 21:17Pull up a whiteboard.
- 21:18Have conversation with your spouse.
- 21:21You know that that's a, that's a team thing there.
- 21:24But yeah please do follow that.
- 21:25Yeah.
- 21:26All right.
- 21:27We dug in deep right off the bat here.
- 21:30We sure did.
- 21:31Let's let's rewind a little bit and talk about Spiro updates
- 21:34because there's some huge things coming.
- 21:36Well some exciting things.
- 21:38So what what do we have coming up?
- 21:40Very shortly here
- 21:42Yes, Craig.
- 21:42Thank you. We have some good ones coming up.
- 21:45So this is supposed to launch March 5th, which is probably today
- 21:50that you're listening to this.
- 21:51Or maybe it's already happened, but March 5th of 25.
- 21:54We have some good things coming.
- 21:56We have our landing pages going to launch for you.
- 22:00So a landing page is a collection of order pages.
- 22:03It's where you can send your clients to the appropriate order page.
- 22:07And a quick example is your residential versus commercial versus
- 22:11Airbnb order page.
- 22:13So that will be coming.
- 22:15You can set that up.
- 22:17You can put your branding on it.
- 22:18You can control how it looks.
- 22:19So excited about landing pages.
- 22:23Excuse me.
- 22:24A second thing coming up is the ability to delete
- 22:27some records that you previously could not delete.
- 22:31You can only deactivate.
- 22:33So this is photographers, admins,
- 22:37editors, service areas and service categories.
- 22:41Off the top of my head.
- 22:42There might be one more,
- 22:43but many of you have said, hey, I just want to clean up these list.
- 22:46And we put that update in so you don't
- 22:49you can actually delete them and remove them visually from that list.
- 22:52So, thank you for that feedback. There.
- 22:56Photographer working hours.
- 22:58Craig.
- 22:58So right now, the way that you set your working hours,
- 23:01if you say you begin working on Mondays at 8 a.m., your first appointment time,
- 23:06if you're using automatic scheduling, won't be at 8 a.m..
- 23:11It will be at 8 a.m.
- 23:12plus the drive time, right?
- 23:14Which we love this, this.
- 23:16I still think that this is the best way to do it because,
- 23:22you can count on that.
- 23:23You're going to leave your house no earlier than 8 a.m.,
- 23:26but we've heard from enough of you that want to do it
- 23:30a different way, so we're open to changing it.
- 23:32You will now be able to change that method to say,
- 23:35I want my first appointment to be at 8 a.m., the start time.
- 23:40And then also you have options for the end time.
- 23:42So it's not when you arrive home, it could be
- 23:45when your begin your first appointment, when you end your first.
- 23:49I'm sorry when you begin your last appointment,
- 23:52when you arrive home or when you start your last appointment.
- 23:56So those options are coming in here so that you can get it
- 23:59exactly how you'd like it to do another,
- 24:03another big one we have coming up is photographer service areas.
- 24:06So right now you have a service area that is attached to many photographers.
- 24:13So for us at our company typically we cover
- 24:16we do a radius from the city center.
- 24:18So for Craig, you know, we cover 30 miles from the center of Toledo.
- 24:23And then we have tiers that step out up
- 24:26to 50 miles and there's a service fee attached to it.
- 24:29And then we add to that service area
- 24:32all the photographers that cover that service area.
- 24:36Some of you say, hey, I just let my photographers
- 24:39tell me where they're going to cover and the fees that they charge.
- 24:43And I just pass that on to my client.
- 24:46And you will now be able to do that.
- 24:48So you'll be able to set service areas on a photographer only
- 24:52and in the same city, overlapping service areas,
- 24:57you could charge different service, trip fees to your agent
- 25:02and that could go directly to your photographer.
- 25:05So that is a change coming up now by default,
- 25:08all of these new changes that I'm telling you will not be toggled on.
- 25:12So if you're like, hey, I'm not going to use any of these things,
- 25:14just leave your system the way it is.
- 25:15You have to explicitly go in and make these changes.
- 25:20Craig, I'm going to go quick here on these.
- 25:22Just a couple more of these.
- 25:23Sure.
- 25:24Music pay music options for the display page.
- 25:27So we've had enough of you say, hey, can you put music on the property website?
- 25:30Boom. It's done.
- 25:31We have a, ability to, we're going to be able
- 25:35to translate the invoices and the company portal.
- 25:39So for our international users,
- 25:41you have requested that a lot, and we get it done for you.
- 25:44And then lastly, right now inside the system,
- 25:49when you have completed a job, your clients can
- 25:51actually leave you a rating, and they're doing that.
- 25:54We're going to give you a report so you can see those in bulk.
- 25:57So excited to bring all this to you here.
- 25:59March 5th of 25.
- 26:01Excellent a lot of great changes.
- 26:03So a lot of great updates and keep those coming.
- 26:07Todd, real quick, if somebody wants to make a suggestion
- 26:09on a feature that they'd like to see in the Spiro software,
- 26:12what what's the best, easiest way for them to do that?
- 26:15Yes.
- 26:16If you get out a piece of paper and you write it down
- 26:18and you mail it to the North Pole, that we're not just kidding.
- 26:22No, no, that was mean.
- 26:24I really do love your suggestion that that was a complete joke.
- 26:29Todd is feeling snarky today.
- 26:33it's sunny today. I'm in a good mood.
- 26:35It's Friday. I'm sorry, y'all, please do not take that.
- 26:38That was with joy.
- 26:39That was with love in my heart. As a joke. It was
- 26:43our feedback.
- 26:45ho ho ho
- 26:48put that on your Christmas wish, kiddos.
- 26:51Oh. Great. You guys just roast me for that one.
- 26:53Please give me a hard time.
- 26:54I give it right back to me, I enjoy it.
- 26:57Yes, I do enjoy it.
- 26:58Upper right hand corner.
- 27:00Spiro, there's a feedback button. Click it.
- 27:03It will take you to our feedback board.
- 27:05And we've created that
- 27:06this board based on you guys letting us know that we you wanted it.
- 27:10So it's we want it because you want it.
- 27:12And it does help us too.
- 27:14Yeah.
- 27:14So we want to know how you want to use the system.
- 27:18We want you to feel pride in the system, and we want you to feel like
- 27:21it does what you need it to do.
- 27:23So please suggest on there and look at that board.
- 27:26If you like another user's suggestion, upvote it.
- 27:31The higher up it gets, the more likely we are to tackle that.
- 27:36Update.
- 27:37Oh, Craig, I've got one more thing.
- 27:39Okay. And this is. Yeah. This is.
- 27:42I can't give it.
- 27:43All right. Now.
- 27:45So you're all going to hate me.
- 27:46But this is a tease.
- 27:49I think we figured out a great solution
- 27:52for you are for automated photo editing.
- 27:58We are? Yes.
- 28:00You know, there's been there's a lot of it out there.
- 28:03We've been looking at a lot of it.
- 28:04We've been looking at,
- 28:07for years now, literally years.
- 28:09And Jess, our head of ops at Wow, has done
- 28:12a ton of testing with a lot of different vendors.
- 28:16And we feel we found one we really love and we're vetting it a little bit more.
- 28:22So hopefully we'll have something to you coming very soon
- 28:25where you can get like very quick turnaround time.
- 28:30It's cheaper than what you're paying your layer blended editors right now.
- 28:33And it's literally the same or better quality. So,
- 28:38interesting
- 28:39you know, kind of hold that thought on you there.
- 28:41Hopefully next week we'll have an announcement of your see it,
- 28:44on our channels, but super excited about this.
- 28:47We're excited about it.
- 28:48Our real estate media company I think this is a game changer.
- 28:51Stay tuned.
- 28:52More details to come.
- 28:54All right, Todd, this week, we want to dive into some listener
- 28:59and viewer questions that have come in and, some good stuff.
- 29:05We we do this from time to time.
- 29:06We always encourage you, if you've got a business related question
- 29:09that you'd like to see addressed, please, you can leave, you know,
- 29:13leave a comment on the YouTube channel, email us at hello@spiro.media.
- 29:17We want to provide content that's really going to help your business.
- 29:20You know, it'd be very tempting for us to just blab every week,
- 29:24but we want good pointed, focused intended.
- 29:30Topics to
- 29:31talk about intend your puns, you cowards.
- 29:35That's that's a t shirt I'm going to get.
- 29:37I'm going to wear that with pride.
- 29:39Okay.
- 29:39So we're going to dive in and,
- 29:42and just answer some of these questions that might lead to other discussions.
- 29:45But again, if you do have a question, leave a comment on the YouTube channel.
- 29:48Or if you're listening, you can email us.
- 29:50Hello@spiro.media. All right.
- 29:53So Todd, I had
- 29:55one of our, our viewers, reach out to me on Facebook. I,
- 30:01we love connecting with you guys.
- 30:02Facebook, whatever. Look us up. Well, friend.
- 30:05Yeah, we have some great discussions.
- 30:07But Nick reached out to me, and we've had an ongoing discussion.
- 30:11Just some really good things that he's been asking.
- 30:13And I've shared some of my, my experience and and insight,
- 30:17for what it's worth, you know, that in a in a dime
- 30:20might get you a cup of coffee at McDonald's, but,
- 30:25Nick, Nick asked.
- 30:27He was listening.
- 30:30I mean,
- 30:32I gotta be honest, right?
- 30:35I love it.
- 30:36Nick said, hey, I was listening to the most recent episode in two things
- 30:39popped into my head, and this first one that I thought was a good one.
- 30:43He goes, number one.
- 30:45I know knowing my why is important.
- 30:48I read Simon Sinek is Sinek. Sinek.
- 30:52Sinek.
- 30:53Yeah. So I read his book on that too.
- 30:56But what if my why
- 30:59is selfish?
- 31:02How do you sell that to people?
- 31:05See, I'm
- 31:06not going to go into the details, but he, he does it because he just
- 31:10he finds the work enjoyable. But,
- 31:14he ultimately in his
- 31:16in his own opinion, his wife is just kind of selfish.
- 31:20So, Todd, when I'm out there trying to win
- 31:23some new clients and they want to know why I do what I do,
- 31:27and if I'm honest with myself, it's just because I'm selfish.
- 31:30I want to make money.
- 31:31I personally just enjoy the work, but nothing much beyond that.
- 31:35How do you answer somebody like that?
- 31:39Well, this, this.
- 31:40So this is one that I, I struggle with for a long time
- 31:44because when I thought about my why, why did I start the business?
- 31:47I mean, might and I don't think that one's bad at all, Nick.
- 31:50I feel like mine's bad.
- 31:52I started mine because I want to make a lot of money doing it.
- 31:55It's like, okay.
- 31:57Yeah, yeah, I know I struggled, I struggled with this
- 31:59thought for a long time.
- 32:01I am motivated by money.
- 32:04I think I shared this maybe a year or so ago,
- 32:06maybe I haven't talked about on the podcast,
- 32:07but I began thinking about this and and this is
- 32:12in a time where I was doing a lot of thought about business,
- 32:16and the whys came up and goals came up and everything came back to me
- 32:21like thinking I just do it because I can make money at it.
- 32:25And I was like, you are a terrible person, Todd.
- 32:29Like terrible like, what is wrong with you?
- 32:33Like, why don't you want to save some mammals and,
- 32:37you know, some ocean somewhere?
- 32:39Some kids in a different country, like, what is wrong with you?
- 32:43Seriously? And I,
- 32:46I, sorry. Well, no problem here.
- 32:48If you're not watching.
- 32:52And I so I shared this.
- 32:54So we're in a small group at church, and it's a group of three other couples,
- 32:58and we we meet every other week and we eat and we share things like this,
- 33:03you know, how's it going?
- 33:04And I, I shared this, I'm like, I'm a terrible person.
- 33:07I'm terrible.
- 33:09Like, I'm motivate like money.
- 33:11Like I always think, why would I do okay so I can make money in it.
- 33:13Why would you do this thing?
- 33:14Why did you start Spiro.
- 33:15Oh, because I think I can make money at it, like.
- 33:18Like you should just be putting a hole somewhere. Todd
- 33:22and I shared this and
- 33:25I still, I still wish that
- 33:28I had a better reason, but I think it's connecting some to some other reasons.
- 33:32But my group share it with me.
- 33:34Like that.
- 33:36This is not a bad thing.
- 33:38Like you have the ability to make money and you can impact others with that money.
- 33:44True money by nature is not a bad thing, right?
- 33:48It's you can use money in a bad way and you can covet money, right?
- 33:53But enough of it.
- 33:54You, the love of.
- 33:55Yes, exactly the love of money. Right.
- 33:58But that's way different than making money
- 34:03and not,
- 34:05you know, being so attached to it that you love it.
- 34:08And that is what propels you.
- 34:11But then what do you do with your money?
- 34:13So I think,
- 34:16you know, for me, that being I was like, okay, that's great.
- 34:19You know, thanks for trying to
- 34:20I don't expect you guys to not make me feel good at this.
- 34:22You know, is a small group and, and and
- 34:26but I begin viewing it from that perspective of
- 34:29how can I impact people now
- 34:33with the ability to do this?
- 34:35Or what does this allow me to do?
- 34:38Okay, so,
- 34:40being in business for 21 years, and again, I don't want you to feel the pressure of
- 34:44like, hey, I, I can't do this right now, but I've done this for 21 years.
- 34:48I've been very blessed.
- 34:50And I had the ability to coach more.
- 34:53So I, and let me connect the dots here pretty quickly here.
- 34:57And then Craig, I'll get your thoughts on this.
- 34:58But because we've been successful
- 35:02financially and we've
- 35:06grown a team that we can
- 35:08again motivate and make successful and try to fulfill their goals.
- 35:12If it's money, time, whatever it is related,
- 35:16then I have the ability because I have a great team
- 35:20and we've poured back into our clients as well, that I can take less time
- 35:25working during this season of life, that I can go impact
- 35:29third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh graders.
- 35:32Yeah, as a coach and hopefully show them.
- 35:38Just a different way of living that that's my goal.
- 35:41My goal as a Christian as well is like, can they see
- 35:44can they see Christ in me when I'm with them?
- 35:48So I know that's a little stretch for money,
- 35:50but it allow me to do things allowed me to, you know,
- 35:54pay the team like we were happy we were able to give raises.
- 35:58We are to give some, profit share.
- 36:00We are able to give things to some people.
- 36:02This year we're able to hire more or last year
- 36:05and all of that moves everyone along.
- 36:08So it's just maybe a little bit of a change in perspective.
- 36:11I still wish though, Craig.
- 36:12I was like, hey,
- 36:13I'm really motivated to go build build schools in some other country.
- 36:17I'm just really not.
- 36:18I'm motivated to impact these kids that I coach.
- 36:21I'm motivated. Like, I love talking to all of you.
- 36:24Like many of you, email me like I'll have a call with you like I'm not advertised.
- 36:27I'm gonna have a call for everyone.
- 36:28Like all these group calls, like you all might say,
- 36:32Todd, you create this content because you want to sell Spiro.
- 36:36And that's kind of how we started it.
- 36:38But still, we're we do this because we want to help you.
- 36:42Yeah, and you're not forced to use Spiro.
- 36:45If you're listening to us right now, we we give this all to you.
- 36:48Like I, Craig and I share everything we do all of the years of experience
- 36:52we share it with you openly because we just enjoy hearing
- 36:57and seeing you guys grow and you guys accomplishing your goals
- 37:02I think I've shared
- 37:03I'm kind of the opposite of Todd, where most of my career I was actually.
- 37:06You're a good person, Craig.
- 37:09You're a good person too.
- 37:10It's not what I was saying.
- 37:12No, but most
- 37:15-now, how do I move forward for that - just say yes?
- 37:18I am Todd.
- 37:19No I'm not.
- 37:22Deep down we all have some dark, deep stuff right now.
- 37:26But for the grace of God, you know?
- 37:29Anyway, now we're.
- 37:30Yeah, we're going to get off.
- 37:32No, but most, most of my career,
- 37:34I did work in nonprofits because I, I am primarily motivated,
- 37:38motivated by serving people now works really well doing what I'm doing
- 37:42because I've found something that I truly believe is of value
- 37:47to other people,
- 37:48both the realtors that we're serving, but ultimately to the sellers
- 37:51to help them sell their home.
- 37:52I mean, that's a needed thing.
- 37:54So we're providing a service that I truly, deep down, believe
- 37:58is helping people, and it's something I enjoy doing.
- 38:01So, Nick, you know, Nick shared he just enjoys doing this and he's making money.
- 38:05That's okay.
- 38:08But I
- 38:09think transitioning from the the personal selfish,
- 38:13which he he alluded to the selfish reason for
- 38:18don't stop there.
- 38:19Go ahead.
- 38:20And yeah, look at what motivates me and then tie that in as well.
- 38:25So yeah, it might ultimately be a selfish thing initially
- 38:30that, you know, I worked like I said, I worked in nonprofit.
- 38:34I never made a ton of I did not make a ton of money most of my career
- 38:39because you don't in nonprofit, you're not in the nonprofit world
- 38:42primarily to make money.
- 38:43It's because you do want to serve.
- 38:45But I have a family to take care of as well.
- 38:47So I do need to make a decent amount of money.
- 38:50Did care for the people that God has entrusted me with, right?
- 38:53So that that is a somewhat
- 38:56selfish reason I want to make better money,
- 39:00but also find something doing that I enjoyed that I know
- 39:02is going to benefit other people.
- 39:04And even if you're not there yet, hey, I'm not there that I really want
- 39:08to help your business grow. I'm doing it because of this.
- 39:12Yeah, ultimately, just keep
- 39:14thinking through it and find what really motivates you and tie it in.
- 39:18Just make make that tie in.
- 39:20- I don't know if it made sense but - no 100% of you just make sure it's always
- 39:26that you're coming from a place of love in your heart.
- 39:29If it's not all authentic, then you might want to reevaluate
- 39:32and find the authenticity and your clients will see it out.
- 39:35Your employees will see it out.
- 39:37If it's your friend, not authentic, it just won't work right.
- 39:40You can force it so long,
- 39:42but it's you're going to hit a point somewhere where you get enough friction
- 39:46that it's not going to work for you, right?
- 39:49Yep. So okay, so there was listener question number one.
- 39:52Yeah, thanks Nick for that
- 39:54And yeah I appreciate that.
- 39:55Hopefully that that answered things.
- 39:58All right. Second question. Todd.
- 40:00Annette, left a comment on our episode with Colleen Kydd
- 40:04and, asked about the part 107 training.
- 40:09She said, I assume that you pay your photographers
- 40:13to do that training and to to take that test.
- 40:16Is that the case? Todd?
- 40:19So I'll give two answers, because some of you have employees
- 40:24as photographers, and some of you have subcontractors
- 40:27at the end of the day, both
- 40:30should be compensated for doing this.
- 40:36I, I think it's tough to ask people to do something for free.
- 40:39Hey, especially your employees, 100%.
- 40:42If they are studying, then they should be paid for that time, right?
- 40:47The other the other way you could do it is you could just bonus them
- 40:50when they get that service certification.
- 40:54Okay.
- 40:54So if you if you're like, hey, I don't really want to take into account,
- 40:58is this person a fast learner or a slow learner?
- 41:01You could just say, hey, when you pass it, you're going to get 500 bucks.
- 41:05And that will go towards,
- 41:08the time you put into it.
- 41:10That will go towards the test.
- 41:12Like maybe you make them pay for the test
- 41:15so you can decide what you want to do there.
- 41:16I do think you should compensate people for their time.
- 41:19Right. From a contractor standpoint,
- 41:23we then
- 41:25so they have the ability to make more money.
- 41:27Of course.
- 41:28And that's the other thing that they're going to do,
- 41:29both employees and subcontractors, they're going to make more money
- 41:32when they have drone.
- 41:34But we do pay out a, a bonus
- 41:38when and if that photographer has a drone.
- 41:41And, Craig, I believe we do this.
- 41:43Like if they come to us and they have that license already,
- 41:46they're just going to get that.
- 41:47Like we don't care if they have to take it or not.
- 41:49It's just the ability of having that license and being certified.
- 41:53That's what we care about.
- 41:55That enables all of us to get further along in the process.
- 41:59Yeah, exactly.
- 42:02So Annette, hopefully that answered your question.
- 42:06Another one here, Todd.
- 42:08And we might be able to answer this, I don't know.
- 42:11They asked, do we spiro/wow video tours,
- 42:16have training available for businesses to provide
- 42:18to their photographers, like a training program?
- 42:22Is that available outside of our company?
- 42:26I'm so glad you asked this.
- 42:29I don't have a great answer for you right now with getting it to you.
- 42:33We have and and this is
- 42:35maybe being me being a little conceited, but I'm not trying to be conceited.
- 42:39I feel as though we have created the best training resource.
- 42:43at Wow for our photographers,
- 42:47the guide, the curriculum,
- 42:50the layout of it, the levels, the video series.
- 42:54Like. I feel like it's.
- 42:57I feel like we're doing something pretty unique.
- 42:59And again, I'm sorry, I'm tooting my own horn, but
- 43:01and again, we've worked on it for 21 years.
- 43:03And the person that created it was a, a teacher by trade,
- 43:09and he's probably shot more houses than anyone out there as well.
- 43:12So putting a teacher and a photographer, a videographer,
- 43:15and then someone who has the brain to organize all of it.
- 43:18And we're and we're improving that right now.
- 43:19So we just put six new people through it, and we're changing and adapting
- 43:24and we're building some questionnaires and things in there.
- 43:27We have been discussing this at Wow, just to be transparent
- 43:29of how we can get it to all of you, how we can kind of white label
- 43:33it a little bit, how we can make you
- 43:34put your own spin on it and allow you to put a photographer through it,
- 43:38or even just say, hey, wow, I, I need to keep shooting and doing this.
- 43:42Can you guide my photographer through it?
- 43:44Can you review their practice sets?
- 43:47Can you let me know their progression of skills?
- 43:50All the mini checklist and, and, test that we have in there.
- 43:54So we're thinking of how we have a done for you where we manage it.
- 43:58And then at the end of the period, we say, hey, this person's ready to go.
- 44:01They're certified in these levels, they're still working on these.
- 44:04Or we just say, hey, here's how you can use it.
- 44:07You manage the progression of skills.
- 44:10Excellent.
- 44:11So yes, we have training not quite available yet for public concern.
- 44:17I have bad sound effect there.
- 44:18Where's my sound effects at?
- 44:21Did I just make a joke and not even realize it?
- 44:24Well, it was like what the sound effect is like.
- 44:25Yeah, we have it, but you can't. You can't have it.
- 44:28Yeah, yeah. Okay. All right,
- 44:31all right.
- 44:31Well, Todd, I know there was not a ton of questions,
- 44:34but we did want to address those and spend some time talking about it,
- 44:37but also encourage you in other ways of this episode.
- 44:40Oh, Craig, I have another question for you.
- 44:42- I have a question for you. - Okay, all right.
- 44:45Well, I'm on the spot now.
- 44:47Yeah.
- 44:47I mean, always, you know me, I love doing this.
- 44:51- Of course you do. - I'm trying to think I have.
- 44:53I have a real question. I'm trying to think of.
- 44:54I can think of a zinger or a question real quick, but it's not coming in my head.
- 44:58Okay, great.
- 45:00Great entertainment value. There
- 45:02let’s make Craig Turn red
- 45:05Craig Craig and I are coming to you guys live
- 45:08from your local bar here soon.
- 45:11And we're going to be touring.
- 45:13That'll be a trip.
- 45:15Should I get a bar? Can you imagine?
- 45:17Right. Isn't that great, Craig?
- 45:18I mean, that's like Vegas or a bar, like you're.
- 45:23I was just thinking Vegas.
- 45:26Oh my gosh.
- 45:28Okay, y'all, that's really not happening.
- 45:30Right. But it's funny to laugh at.
- 45:32We are going to try to get Craig out to Vegas
- 45:34or to wherever the conference is at this year.
- 45:36But Craig,
- 45:37I love asking this because you have this is like the best feedback
- 45:40we get are the answers
- 45:41you give, and I think it's so relatable and you're so good at giving advice here.
- 45:45What anything notable from your week this week?
- 45:47Because I think our,
- 45:48our listeners should be thinking like, if you're doing it again,
- 45:51your position is a hybrid role and shooting
- 45:55and selling, I think that's so relevant to our listener.
- 45:58So what what happened?
- 45:59Well, it was I guess technically it was last week.
- 46:03Now that I think about it wasn't necessarily this week,
- 46:05but it's a recent development.
- 46:07Actually, over the course of the last couple of months.
- 46:10Oh, yeah, it's been a little bit of a journey. So,
- 46:15we just, Wow video tours just became,
- 46:18a member of the,
- 46:21National Association of Real Estate Brokers,
- 46:23they're known as realtists, not realtors, realtists.
- 46:28And I learned about, the Greater
- 46:31Toledo Realtist Association, from one of our clients
- 46:36that is a minority owned, brokerage here in Toledo.
- 46:40It's one of, I believe, three in in Toledo.
- 46:44And, it's a realtor and realtist that I've worked with for a couple of years.
- 46:49She was at two other brokerages, before.
- 46:52But how has started her own, her own brokerage.
- 46:56And in doing a sit down meeting with him and getting to know the entire team,
- 47:02one of their,
- 47:03one of their realtist, one of the realtors in the brokerage,
- 47:07told me about this Greater Toledo Realtist association.
- 47:10I had never heard of it, and I yeah, I it I yeah.
- 47:15And the parent
- 47:17organization being the National Association
- 47:19of Real Estate Brokers, which is different
- 47:21than the National Association of Realtors. NAR.
- 47:24Okay. Right.
- 47:25So I'm learning about this organization that I've never heard about.
- 47:29And what it is is
- 47:32it is a professional real estate association of, of black in
- 47:37and minority realtors or realtists, realtists.
- 47:43Right. That started back in 1947.
- 47:46And there's a whole history and, and I want to go too deep into it.
- 47:51But the whole, purpose and mission of this
- 47:54organization is to promote democracy and housing.
- 47:58Right?
- 47:59There is there is a,
- 48:02a generational wealth gap between,
- 48:06let's say, white Americans
- 48:07and black Americans and minority, you know, minorities in our country.
- 48:12And there's a whole history of the challenges
- 48:15that black Americans faced in, owning properties,
- 48:18buying in, quote unquote, white neighborhoods, things like that.
- 48:22And this the, the organization that developed to answer
- 48:28this was the National Association of Real Estate Brokers.
- 48:31So you can look them up, look them up on, on the web.
- 48:35It's, but the website is a nareb.com
- 48:40and if you go to the Who We Are page, you'll get the whole history.
- 48:43I don't want to spend the whole episode talking about the history,
- 48:46but they said you really ought to become a member.
- 48:49We don't have a photographer in the group as an affiliate.
- 48:53And I'm like, okay.
- 48:56But the primary reason they really caught me was really the mission.
- 49:00So let me dive a little bit, go into some personal my family,
- 49:04we are an adoptive family.
- 49:05My two boys are adopted.
- 49:07My oldest, Evan, he's 20 years old now.
- 49:10He is biracial, African-American and white.
- 49:14And then my youngest is, Zeke is.
- 49:18He's going to be ten short very shortly.
- 49:21He is black.
- 49:23All right.
- 49:24So I have a vested interest because of my boys
- 49:27in seeing them grow
- 49:30develop wealth, generational wealth that they can pass down to their families,
- 49:35and for them to not have to face
- 49:38any sort of discrimination or anything like that.
- 49:41So when they told me about this organization, I was very intrigued,
- 49:44mainly because my family and I had a vested interest because of my boys.
- 49:48Right now, professionally speaking, obviously, yes, this will provide
- 49:54networking opportunities and maybe business is going to come out of this.
- 49:58But they said you really ought to join. So,
- 50:02over the last,
- 50:04I think it's been about a month.
- 50:05We did join.
- 50:07I went to my first, general general meeting.
- 50:11Yeah.
- 50:12I think it was about a month ago in town.
- 50:14I had a ball.
- 50:16That's good.
- 50:17Yeah.
- 50:17Just a fun group of people like to laugh and I was blown away
- 50:22by a couple of things.
- 50:23Number one, the the guest speaker that they had was the superintendent
- 50:26of Toledo Public Schools, Doctor Romulus Duran, who I've always
- 50:30heard amazing things about, but I've never heard this guy speak before.
- 50:33And he, oh my gosh, you want to talk about a motivational speaker
- 50:37and a guy with a vision?
- 50:39He is turned Toledo Public Schools around and I just I was captivated
- 50:44by his speech and everything that's happening in Toledo public schools.
- 50:48And part of part of what they're doing is, providing
- 50:51vocational training for students, and they're going to be providing
- 50:55they're talking about,
- 50:57well, maybe I shouldn't talk about I can't remember if I can talk.
- 51:00Well, no is in the blade.
- 51:02It was in the Toledo Blade.
- 51:03They want to provide students training on how to become realtors
- 51:07to get into the real estate industry.
- 51:09I'm like, man, what a great, you know, and working with the Greater
- 51:13Toledo Realtist Association and possibly doing that,
- 51:17just so many cool things happening.
- 51:19I'm like, this is a great organization to be a part of.
- 51:21And, something I can really get behind.
- 51:24And that Wow video tours can get behind,
- 51:27so did that
- 51:28what, to a new member orientation and, so,
- 51:34I’m in this organization on behalf of, well, now and I'm thinking, okay,
- 51:38I'm just going to kind of fly under the radar for a little bit,
- 51:41get to know people, you know, get get my feet under me.
- 51:44Yeah.
- 51:45I mean, that's your introvert in this, right?
- 51:46I mean, it's like, hey, to hang.
- 51:48- Okay. - You got you learn what I can.
- 51:50I'm here to learn, you know, because I'm hearing things that I've not heard
- 51:54because of the circles I'm in. Right.
- 51:56And so they tell us about the various committees,
- 51:59and one of the committees is the public relations Committee,
- 52:02all about promoting, communicating the message
- 52:05of the organization and how bad they need help.
- 52:09Because there's only two people on this committee right now. And I'm like,
- 52:13I'm a media guy.
- 52:14That's my whole background is PR, I,
- 52:17I know, I know how to write public service announcements.
- 52:20I know how to contact in the media regulator because that was my my world
- 52:24for almost 20 years.
- 52:25So I see those of you not here not watching on YouTube.
- 52:30My arm kind of started sticking up.
- 52:33And was your other arm pulling it down at the same time?
- 52:36Yeah, right.
- 52:37So and all of a sudden two sets of eyes, just their heads
- 52:41jerked around that they're like, Craig, yes, you're perfect for that committee.
- 52:45And they lit up and I'm like, what have I got myself into?
- 52:49I was, I was kind of be quiet.
- 52:51Just so I got sucked into the public
- 52:55relations, committee for the Greater Toledo Realtist Association.
- 52:59To be honest, I'm really excited because this this is a mission
- 53:02I can really get behind, and help promote.
- 53:06And, those of you in, you know, in other markets,
- 53:09I'd encourage you check out this organization.
- 53:11It's a great, great mission and something I really believe we should be supporting
- 53:17as real estate media professionals, in promoting democracy and housing.
- 53:21So, check that out again.
- 53:22The website is a nareb.com, and
- 53:27I Google there's local chapters all over the country.
- 53:31So yeah.
- 53:32So that was my my kind of big event for the last two weeks or so.
- 53:36I'm really excited to be part of this.
- 53:39That's exciting.
- 53:39You know that's a great opportunity I think Joy on our team
- 53:43that in Charlotte she she mentioned that she is a part of
- 53:47you know that that organization as well.
- 53:50So, you know, great opportunity.
- 53:52I have no clue.
- 53:54I mean, there's so many things that the real estate industry is so large.
- 53:58Yeah, that, you know, there is, but this is a group in 1948,
- 54:02- you said Craig, - 1947 47.
- 54:05Yeah.
- 54:06It's been around for a long time, but it you know, what was really the
- 54:10the most impactful thing was that that new member orientation.
- 54:12Todd.
- 54:14You know, I obviously I got in there, but people started
- 54:18talking to me a little bit more and I told them
- 54:22my intent was just to be kind of quiet and listen and learn because
- 54:27I was
- 54:29I was the minority in that room.
- 54:32And I shared with them, I said honestly
- 54:34I was just here to listen and learn because and I just said that to them.
- 54:38I said for the first time in my life,
- 54:41I'm in the minority,
- 54:42in an organization, in a room, and I
- 54:47obviously I've heard some things before, I've learned some things,
- 54:50but I want to be quiet and just kind of listen and learn
- 54:54and see how can we contribute, how can we be a value?
- 54:58What can I learn from this experience and from other people's experiences
- 55:01in life, particularly in the the area of homeownership,
- 55:07and wealth generation and passing that wealth on to new generations.
- 55:10So, I'm like I said, yeah, I'm, I'm really excited
- 55:13to be a part of this and, and to learn and
- 55:16I when I walked in,
- 55:19one of the realtist there looked up Craig,
- 55:22and this is someone I had done one shoot for before, and, and, he kind of lost
- 55:27contact with her, and, and, she's like, I've got listings for you.
- 55:32I'm so sorry I haven't contacted you.
- 55:34It was out of sight, out of mind.
- 55:35I started using someone else, and I didn't even say anything.
- 55:39I'm like, okay, that that that's great. But.
- 55:43And and she later then told me at the end of the meeting,
- 55:45you are going to get so much business from this. I said, you know what?
- 55:48I I'm thankful for that. I'm grateful for that.
- 55:51But again, I'm here to learn primarily and and just be of benefit however I can.
- 55:57So yes, let's just be real.
- 55:59There are business networking opportunities,
- 56:02but if you're going to join, be authentic about it.
- 56:04And and have a real again why of why you would want to be part of that group.
- 56:09Make sure your your motives are good.
- 56:12I love that, Craig.
- 56:13And it's just, you know, serve first without expecting anything back.
- 56:16Right. You know, that truly is that.
- 56:18I love how it's so aligned with, you know, with your,
- 56:21you know, your boys and wanting to get in.
- 56:22I love the idea of being the minority in a room.
- 56:26I think there's something there's some character building there
- 56:28and some learning.
- 56:29Yeah, I know when we we played summer basketball,
- 56:31and this was the first year that my son played it, we were the same minor.
- 56:35We were the minority in the room.
- 56:36And and you know, Boston was in third grade at the time
- 56:39and it didn't really know anything different,
- 56:41but started to pick up is like, you know, I'm like, no, this is good.
- 56:44This is great for us.
- 56:45And oh my goodness, the relationships we made out of those families,
- 56:48we still see them.
- 56:49I still give them a hug when we're in gyms
- 56:51and we we go to different schools now, but we still see each other.
- 56:53All these events,
- 56:55breaking down those walls and yeah, it's just incredible.
- 56:57And so much can be learned when we go.
- 57:00And I think you said it well, Craig, like, let me learn from you.
- 57:02Let me get it. Not what I've heard.
- 57:05That can be dangerous.
- 57:06Right. The telephone game.
- 57:07But, such a great opportunity there.
- 57:10And, a cool thing to get involved with.
- 57:12Yeah, for sure.
- 57:15All right,
- 57:17well, you got anything else, Todd
- 57:18Craig, I think that is it for today.
- 57:21We, Well, we're that we said. We said you all.
- 57:23Hey, this is going to be a short one. So it was.
