- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. It is great to be here again. Lucas: We are continuing our series on daily life scenes. Luna: Last time we talked about cooking verbs. Lucas: Yes. And now we want to talk about the tools themselves. Luna: Oh, I love talking about tools. Especially if it means eating later. Lucas: That is a very practical motivation. Let us start with the room. Luna: Where do we keep all these tools? Lucas: In the kitchen. The word for kitchen is 廚房. Luna: Kitchen? 廚房. Lucas: Let me say that slowly. 廚房. Luna: 厨房. Okay. That sounds sharp. Lucas: It does. Now, imagine you are standing in the 廚房. Luna: I am in the kitchen. What do I see first? Lucas: Probably a big pot. In Cantonese, we call a wok or a pot 個鑊. Luna: The wok. 個鑊. Lucas: Listen closely. 個鑊. Luna: 个鑊. Is the 'goh' sound important? Lucas: Yes. It is a soft g sound. Like 'go'. 個鑊. Luna: Go-ho. 個鑊. Got it. Lucas: Good. Now, next to the 個鑊, you need something to cut with. Luna: A knife! I know this one. Lucas: Do you? The word for a kitchen knife is 把刀. Luna: Ba-dao? 把刀. Lucas: Very close. The first tone is high. 把刀. Luna: Ba-dao. 把刀. It feels dangerous to say it so loudly. Lucas: Be careful with your fingers then. You have your 廚房, your 個鑊, and your 把刀. Luna: So I can finally make dinner. What do I do? Lucas: You cook food. The phrase for cooking food is 煮嘢食. Luna: jeu ye sik? 煮嘢食. Lucas: Exactly. 煮嘢食. Luna: 煮嘢食. This is my favorite phrase. It sounds delicious. Lucas: It is. So, you are in the 廚房. You hold the 把刀. You look at the 個鑊. Luna: And I start to 煮嘢食. Lucas: Perfect. But wait. There is one more crucial moment. Luna: What happens before I cook? Lucas: The water boils. When the water boils, you say: 水滾咗喇. Luna: sui gwan jo la. 水滾咗喇. Lucas: Listen. 水滾咗喇. Luna: 水滾咗喇. Oh, that sounds urgent. Lucas: It is. You shout it to your family. 水滾咗喇! Luna: Shall we review all five together? Slowly. Lucas: Ready. First: 廚房. Luna: 廚房. Lucas: Second: 個鑊. Luna: 個鑊. Lucas: Third: 把刀. Luna: 把刀. Lucas: Fourth: 煮嘢食. Luna: 煮嘢食. Lucas: Fifth: 水滾咗喇. Luna: 水滾咗喇. Lucas: Excellent. Those were clear. Luna: I feel like I could open a restaurant now. Lucas: Maybe not yet. But you can definitely order takeout confidently. Luna: Oh, I would rather cook. With my new 把刀. Lucas: Just don't cut yourself. Remember to stay in the 廚房. Luna: Right. Safety first. Then 煮嘢食. Lucas: Before we go, let's talk about how we learn these words. Luna: Yeah, repetition helps a lot. Lucas: It does. If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language...
