- 1:07In in 2 minutes. God damn Jimmy, This is some
- 1:11serious formation. Hey, good morning.
- 1:33Good morning. All right.
- 1:59Good morning. Good morning.
- 2:01I'm going to, I'm going to be like Deon Sanders.
- 2:03Where's my theme music? Yeah, yeah.
- 2:06Where's my theme music? Good morning, brother.
- 2:10How are you today? Morning, morning, morning,
- 2:11everybody. We're doing good.
- 2:13It's a 20. 24 Yes, and I just noticed in that opening intro
- 2:19that you have elitch's in there and that that no longer exists.
- 2:23I know, I know, I know. It's a sad day.
- 2:29It's no longer. It's OK, me and you, we'll get
- 2:33together either today or, you know, sometime this week and
- 2:36we'll create a new, a new entire intro.
- 2:41Yeah, 'cause we have exciting news and and we've already kind
- 2:43of talked about it, we got a new name for the show.
- 2:45We've got a new kind of a new renewed vigor for, you know,
- 2:52proponent for vets, being proponents for vets and you
- 2:56know, trying to get as many nonprofits on the show as
- 2:59possible. You know, put their, have a on
- 3:03our bulletin board put their website on there and and just
- 3:07really, you know dig in deep and and and you know dig our heels
- 3:11in and really help out veterans, you know, 'cause that's what we
- 3:14do that's what we're here for. Right.
- 3:16And and we picked up a new sponsor, All right Ltd Tactical.
- 3:21And so, you know, I I brought in my bulletproof vest.
- 3:26Hey, don't don't judge me. You don't know what kind of
- 3:28neighborhood I live in. So I got this bulletproof vest
- 3:32that you have it for to me, for a really good deal.
- 3:36I mean, it's pretty sturdy. Yeah.
- 3:37I'll show everybody. That is a pretty sweet.
- 3:41That is. Set.
- 3:42Up that is, you know and you know, it's it's kind of funny.
- 3:49It's almost like a a Thunder jacket when there's like
- 3:53fireworks going off 'cause there's a lot of fireworks going
- 3:56off on New Year's. Oh boy, was there fireworks,
- 4:00Gunshots. So.
- 4:03You could just hear a clip. Dude, I I kid you not.
- 4:06Like, I had high anxiety and then when I put this on and I
- 4:11tightened it up, I got anxiety kind of went away, dude.
- 4:16So it's like that. What do they call that for dogs?
- 4:18It's like that Thunder. Shirt.
- 4:20Yeah. The Thunder shirt.
- 4:21Yeah. OK, I got.
- 4:23You. I was really surprised on that
- 4:24and like the one thing I was worried about.
- 4:27So like, even if I touch a uniform, I don't know why, but I
- 4:31I get kind of like shaky with my PTSD.
- 4:36Well, you do know why? Yeah.
- 4:38And then and then when I told her about that, she's like, OK,
- 4:41well, let's, let's put you in black.
- 4:44You know, pure black. She was right, dude.
- 4:46I mean, it sounds so stupid and I look stupid, you know, sitting
- 4:52on the couch with my bulletproof vest.
- 4:54You know, I I'd look stupid, but it works.
- 4:58If somebody broke in at that moment, imagine, imagine how
- 5:03prepared you would have. Been, yes, you'd have been on
- 5:05point. That that's true.
- 5:07That's true. But you know, if I and if I
- 5:09drive from here to Walmart with a bulletproof vest and a Kevlar,
- 5:13I guarantee you I'm getting stopped, you know?
- 5:20I I would agree, yeah, you know, people are going to.
- 5:22Look, I mean, it's one for a bulletproof vest, but for you to
- 5:25have a Kevlar and stuff, yeah, that that that's kind of out of
- 5:29the ordinary. You know, and he's got an AR15
- 5:34sidearm. He's got a turret.
- 5:37Just mounted in the bed of your Tahoe, you're going.
- 5:42To get some, some, some. Eyebrows Dude, I I that I would,
- 5:46I would love that. Just like a vehicle with a
- 5:50turret. Nothing on it, but just like a
- 5:52you know, turret and then you can put like a remote.
- 5:55Control an urban assault vehicle.
- 5:56Yeah. Yeah, that's what you want.
- 5:58Yeah. NBR goes Taliban the Rebel
- 6:03Experience. Yeah, the Rebel experience.
- 6:07We're going all out, folks. Oh boy.
- 6:09So, all right, well, what did you guys do on New Year's?
- 6:13We we didn't talk about that. Yeah, we didn't really talk
- 6:16about I I stayed up, actually, I'm a night owl, so I was up,
- 6:19but I wasn't really paying it. I would drop, you know, watch,
- 6:22drop the ball or any of that stuff.
- 6:23But I heard all the fireworks and gunshots.
- 6:26I was like, oh, it must be midnight.
- 6:29Oh shit, it's today New Year's. That's right.
- 6:31Wow, time goes by fast. Yeah, but that, you know, I
- 6:36haven't gone out celebrated New Year's Eve and couldn't tell you
- 6:40how long. You know, I don't drink or
- 6:41anything and I know that's one of the it's not like required.
- 6:46But you know most people, you know, that's why we didn't call
- 6:48our show The Revelry Experience, because it's a different
- 6:51connotation. But but yeah, how about you
- 6:54guys? I just hung out with my family.
- 6:57I know, yeah. Well, I haven't, I haven't had
- 7:00alcohol in a very, very, very long time.
- 7:04And I had grabbed a cigar and I went out with my wife to, you
- 7:09know, she smokes like a smoke cigar.
- 7:12And we sat out there and we were just drinking for the New
- 7:18Year's, you know, and your patio.
- 7:20Yeah, just on the patio. But I can tell you that I had
- 7:24one glass of rum. Yeah, that won't ever happen
- 7:30again. That's a glass.
- 7:33Of. Rum.
- 7:33Just a glass of rum with a with a splash.
- 7:36Or a bottle or something. I don't know, man, but I was on
- 7:39the toilet forever. Really.
- 7:41Yeah. I ain't doing that stuff ever
- 7:43again. Wow.
- 7:44Yeah, it was. It was you sent.
- 7:45Your system into shock. Literally.
- 7:48Well, I haven't drank in a while.
- 7:51And you know, that's what I I started thinking about it when I
- 7:56stopped smoking and then when I went back to smoking it, it, it
- 8:02did something to me and it was the kind of the same thing.
- 8:07So I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm thinking that everything that you put in
- 8:10your body, it has some kind of effect on your body.
- 8:13You think? Yeah, so.
- 8:16And how profound this guy over. Here, right?
- 8:18I'm learning things every day. Yes, how about you there,
- 8:21Mercury? I went out to dinner with my
- 8:25family. We went to Sierra's.
- 8:27I don't know if anybody here has been there.
- 8:30I wish we had a nice little dinner out there.
- 8:32And then I went over to with my girlfriend.
- 8:36We went over to one of her family's houses and we played
- 8:39some board games over there for a bit.
- 8:42Then me and her came home and just rang in the New year
- 8:45together. We know what that means.
- 8:49Yeah, keep it clean, Diddy, we are alive.
- 8:54Yes. We can't talk about any lists or
- 8:56anything like that. We're we'll, we'll we'll just
- 8:59make people upset. Because I learned that this
- 9:01week. I don't know if I told you about
- 9:03that, but I I posted something on my Facebook, something kind
- 9:09of political, and I offended or I upset one of my friends.
- 9:14And so I not only did I delete the post, but I told her, hey,
- 9:20I'm sorry, you know, I didn't think that it would affect
- 9:26anybody like that. So I I deleted the post.
- 9:29It's not your intention. Right, exactly.
- 9:31Well. That's good.
- 9:33That's good that you're, you know, big enough man to admit
- 9:37fault and. Sometimes.
- 9:40Because some people won't take down the post, they won't
- 9:41apologize. Sometimes, sometimes I I just
- 9:46see it from one point of view and I don't see it from another
- 9:49point of view. And I think when you see both
- 9:54point of views, you understand it a little bit, but.
- 9:59Welcome to my world, I'm. I'm constantly in the doghouse.
- 10:04Dude, I am too. So don't.
- 10:05Don't. I don't think you're alone on
- 10:08that. So you are almost out of here on
- 10:13Colorado Media School. Next Thursday.
- 10:16Next Thursday is your last. Day.
- 10:18So what? We won't see you anymore.
- 10:20I'll still be here. He'll still be here.
- 10:22He's, he's, he's doing a show here.
- 10:25Yeah, I just graduate from CMS next week.
- 10:28So are you going to do this show and your show?
- 10:30Yeah, so the the way it works is I'm his sound guy, OK?
- 10:36And then on Fridays, he's our sound guy.
- 10:41Isn't that special? And then one of these days,
- 10:43we'll get you to be a sound guy for one of the.
- 10:46Shows, yeah, you know, I know I've been avoiding like the
- 10:48plague, but I need to learn and I need to call you like,
- 10:51occasionally, you know, just to check in.
- 10:54Yeah, we are. Friends And you're a dear
- 10:56friend, so I don't have a lot of.
- 10:59Friends. I'll just, I I thought I did but
- 11:03I looked around and how everybody's moved like I have I
- 11:08have 10 friends that I was always hanging around with doing
- 11:13stuff and it's it's almost like it's my ex-girlfriend.
- 11:17I mean they just they're they're they're they're falling away you
- 11:21know I haven't, I haven't heard from them in a while.
- 11:24They moved out of state. Really.
- 11:26Yeah. And I thought they would be here
- 11:32for like the the, the Western What?
- 11:35What is? Oh.
- 11:36The stock show. The stock show, Yeah.
- 11:38And. That's a big deal.
- 11:40Here in Colorado, well, it used to be a big deal.
- 11:43But I'll tell you, the last couple years that I've went
- 11:46there like it, it's very dead, man.
- 11:50I mean, even the motorcycle Expo is more popular than the stock
- 11:54show. I mean, I'm not saying that it's
- 11:59not popular. I'm just saying that when I go
- 12:03there, it's not very hard to find a parking space.
- 12:06Yeah, well, I remember back in the early 90s, I worked at the
- 12:09Denver Country Club and a lot of the members were, you know,
- 12:12Cowboys and they would come in with these stacks, I mean stacks
- 12:17of tickets. So I'm assuming they bought
- 12:18those tickets and then they're you know giving them away and
- 12:21stuff And so you know it's I think they've struggled, they
- 12:25definitely the attendance has gone down, but I think they've
- 12:27struggled for quite a while as far as you know getting it, you
- 12:32know attendance up you know. It was Even so popular at one
- 12:36point, like my family went one year when I was really young and
- 12:40it was packed in there. But now, like, I hardly hear
- 12:44about people even going. I see the ads and stuff, but
- 12:47that's like usually where it ends.
- 12:48And they have it at the Convention Center.
- 12:50Is that where it's at? OK, 'cause I know they used to
- 12:52have it at. Didn't they used to have it at
- 12:53the Merchandise Mart before I? Got.
- 12:55I think so, yeah. Yeah.
- 12:57Before they tore it down. So you know that was a that was
- 13:01a big venue and I've been to many events there, but that's
- 13:04gone. So I don't know if they plan on
- 13:07building something new there or I think they are building there,
- 13:10but I don't know what it is. Yeah, I have.
- 13:12I have no idea. I do know that when I was going
- 13:15around with my father and I'm sure that it's not just in this
- 13:19city. I'm sure it's on every city in
- 13:22in the whole in the in the whole world.
- 13:25But when we were going around my dad's like, I remember when this
- 13:30was nothing but field, and now there's housing development and
- 13:35like he was surprised how much shit changed in like 3 years.
- 13:40And I think sometimes we forget how things change in a year
- 13:46sometimes. Yeah, I mean there's mad
- 13:48building, you know, construction going on for sure.
- 13:51I mean how there's a there's an in and out and a Raising Cane's
- 13:56over there by the bass pro shops in the in the Northfield.
- 14:00Did not know that Stapleton area.
- 14:02Yeah. Well, did you know they just
- 14:04built the Clark's? You ever heard of Clark's, the
- 14:06little supermarket? Yes.
- 14:08It's kind of like City Market, you know, it's a smaller store
- 14:14and they pop up usually in little towns, you know, like
- 14:16there's one in Crested Butte, there's one in, I think,
- 14:18Steamboat, but they built one over here in Lowery.
- 14:23And I'm like my wife and I went and checked that.
- 14:24She, she loved it. She goes, it's priceless.
- 14:26Oh yeah, it's little. I mean they got to, they got to
- 14:29make their money. But it's, you know, it's kind of
- 14:31like that Whole Whole Foods type deal, you know, Trader Joe's,
- 14:36that type stuff. But you know, it was pretty
- 14:38brisk, business was brisk. There was a lot of people in
- 14:41there. So they've got a liquor store
- 14:43attached to it and they've got like a juice bar and and and
- 14:48oven baked pizzas, you know, and a brick oven and right there on
- 14:53site in the center. So it's pretty cool, pretty cool
- 14:55atmosphere and like you said, you you, you don't really like,
- 14:58you know, like it's OK. Larry's been redeveloped for a
- 15:00long, quite a long time. But then you, you don't frequent
- 15:02it and you go back, you're like, wow, that wasn't there.
- 15:04Before wow, you know, you're like they're.
- 15:07Putting new stuff in. Here, Hell, when I went to I, I
- 15:09went to my prosthetic guy yesterday at the VA.
- 15:11When I went to him, I looked at him and I'm like, I don't
- 15:16remember a door being there. And he was like, Nope, there
- 15:20wasn't a door there the last time he was there.
- 15:22There is now. I'm like, OK And then, you know,
- 15:26he looked at me and he's like, who issued your brace?
- 15:29And he's like, oh, never mind. It was me.
- 15:31And I'm like, oh, see, we we, we met each other.
- 15:34We just didn't remember each other.
- 15:35And he just started laughing. I mean gosh.
- 15:40It's true. It's true.
- 15:41You know, we we forget people, or we forget things that
- 15:46happened, or we forget who we are.
- 15:48Yeah, yeah. Well, you know, and I tell you
- 15:53and I'm. I'm only talking how much.
- 15:56Oh, we got to go on our first music break.
- 15:58All right. So ladies and gentlemen, we're
- 16:01going to go on our first music break and when we come back,
- 16:05we'll be talking the what the. So whatever you do, stay with
- 16:09us. Don't go away.
- 16:10Don't. Go away, we'll be right.
- 20:09Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
- 20:12Thank you for tuning in this cold little crisp morning here
- 20:17in Denver, Co got H Train, we got Rebel.
- 20:20Experience Rebel Experience. So we got Caveman and Mercury in
- 20:25the background, looming kind of. He's kind of creepy back there.
- 20:29Talk about creepers. Sorry guys.
- 20:31Keep staring at me. What's up with that?
- 20:34Who, me, Mercury? I don't know, man.
- 20:38And. He's just he's he's just
- 20:39stuffing his doughnuts. You didn't, you didn't want to
- 20:43bet on on like sports or whatever with him.
- 20:46And he's like looking at you 'cause you owe money, Did you?
- 20:50No, I I'm not a betting man. So I learned.
- 20:53I I used to be, but not anymore. I learned my my lesson.
- 20:57Maybe it's because he's a Wolverine fan and I'm, you know,
- 21:01UW fan and I'm voting for the Huskies and he's voting for the.
- 21:07Man, I've never, I've never bet on any of that stuff.
- 21:13Me neither. I never.
- 21:14I never have a fantasy. Football team or anything like
- 21:16that. I used to have a football
- 21:18fantasy football team. I I did pretty good like two or
- 21:22three years and then after that I'm just going to lost interest.
- 21:26But you know the what I was getting ready to say?
- 21:32Ah, forget it. I forget what I was getting
- 21:34ready to say. Dang it.
- 21:36I hate when. That happens all the time.
- 21:39All the time. Yes, I know.
- 21:41All right. Hey, if you tuning in now.
- 21:46Hello. They came on and then they left.
- 21:54Come on, come on, come on. Hit the screen.
- 21:56Stay awhile. Don't be a douche.
- 21:58Yeah, OK. So what's the what did you guys
- 22:05end up figuring out what the, what the segment was going to
- 22:08be? So let me let me pull up this
- 22:10article really quick. So Pittsburgh couple's dog eats
- 22:15$4000 cash and then says that they were able to recover 3550,
- 22:21but it was some dirty work. Like, how do you have that much
- 22:26cash lying around in the open where your dog is going to?
- 22:30Well, and and now four's ran with peanut butter or what the
- 22:35hell did you? Why would a dog eat that much
- 22:36money? I mean.
- 22:37It was just a it was a $4000 cash in a envelope and the dog
- 22:41just for whatever reason, ate the envelope.
- 22:44What? Type of dog was it?
- 22:46Does it? Say let's see.
- 22:47It had to be a big dog and I'm thinking.
- 22:51Goldendoodle. So it's kind of they're kind of
- 22:53big, they're kind of a medium size.
- 22:55We have we we, well we have a standard put at home but he's
- 22:59got he was bred with a a golden retriever and so he's got you
- 23:04know my my niece has a goldendoodle from his litter.
- 23:07But yeah, you know, I mean I the only thing I can think of is
- 23:10they ate a fucking peanut butter and Jelly sandwich excuse my
- 23:13French, just before they put in that envelope and it was you
- 23:17know the smell was on the envelope.
- 23:18He was like, let me eat this. Honestly, it makes a grease.
- 23:26Just will eat anything. Greasy sausage or, you know,
- 23:28something. Yeah, that's true.
- 23:30Some dogs will eat anything. Maybe it resembled food that the
- 23:33dog dog usually has one of his toys.
- 23:36Yeah, maybe he thought it was a toy or.
- 23:39Fun for them, so they. Could have been mad.
- 23:41You know, dogs are very jealous people.
- 23:43I mean, dogs, yeah, they're very territorial, territorial and
- 23:46they get. Young, especially Siberian
- 23:47Huskies. My dog's at home.
- 23:49They get. If you're on paying attention to
- 23:50one dog, boy, the other dogs are, they really get offended.
- 23:53Like, yeah, you don't be paying attention to him.
- 23:57I'm really like sniffing at you and then sniffing, you know,
- 24:01around and he look at you, oh, you've been cheating on me,
- 24:04you've been petting another. Dog you have.
- 24:07You've been throwing yourself around from town, haven't you?
- 24:09Like our puppy, you have to pet both dogs at once in my house or
- 24:15else you're going to get a puppy in your face.
- 24:18While our older dog, he's so chill, he'll just like, he's
- 24:21just ready for the attention, but whenever the puppy sees him
- 24:24with anything, he's like. On it, it's kind of like our
- 24:28pocket bully. If you're sitting on the couch
- 24:29and you're petting Shaggy the the poodle.
- 24:34And then we have a little My son has a a little rat terrier mix.
- 24:38She's really mellow and he sees it.
- 24:41Bodie will, and her name's Lady and Bodie will jump up on the
- 24:44couch and just muscle his way through.
- 24:46Get on your lap. And no, you're paying attention
- 24:49to me. I get all the attention and you
- 24:52know, everyone's afraid of him, 'cause he looks like Tasmanian
- 24:54Devil. So the other dogs are like, OK,
- 24:57couple steps back as I was coming, dude.
- 25:02The English bulldog is cute. Yeah, it's not an English
- 25:06bulldog. Well.
- 25:08It's a pocket bully. Pocket bully.
- 25:10It's. AI think it's a Terrydale and
- 25:18pit bull mix and it's the miniature one.
- 25:23It's the he's he's little man. He's only about maybe that long.
- 25:27He's he's wide, really wide, but he's only about that long and he
- 25:30only he only about that high. He's he's really small.
- 25:33He's the miniature version of it.
- 25:35And you know those dogs go for a lot of money.
- 25:38We got him for. We got him at the Dumb Friends
- 25:39League. My wife saw him on the website,
- 25:43put it, you know, interest form in, forgot all about it.
- 25:47All of a sudden six months later we get a call.
- 25:49You guys sound like, yeah. And they're like, OK, so we went
- 25:52down there. Those dogs sell for $10,000.
- 25:56Easy. Some of.
- 25:57Them. You know and so we got this
- 26:01little and he's a he's a character man he's funny but but
- 26:05yeah you know who knows why that dog ate the the money but the
- 26:10the the big mystery is though is they only got 3550 back you said
- 26:15Yeah. I'm surprised they even got that
- 26:17much back. They said they sifted through
- 26:20his droppings for two days after, and that same night he
- 26:24threw up a couple hundreds, so I don't know how they were even
- 26:30able to recover anything. So then the the the rest of the
- 26:33night he just broke down and. Yeah, I probably just deep,
- 26:37yeah. See, that's why I'm.
- 26:39I'm. Sitting here being quiet because
- 26:41I don't want to sound stupid, but my thinking is if you
- 26:44swallow a dollar bill, what does that digest in your that's.
- 26:49What I thought. You know, and I'm sitting here
- 26:52thinking I don't want to say anything because, you know, it's
- 26:54better to look stupid than you know.
- 26:57Maybe it's like corn. Kind of thing.
- 27:00Maybe it's like corn, you know? Yeah, just breakdown.
- 27:03It comes out, you know, whole which you know, yeah, there's
- 27:07certain things aren't good for your digestion, so.
- 27:09Yeah, I I I figured that, yeah, but dollar bill is totally
- 27:15different than corn. But, but, but it also begs the
- 27:20question, why are you leaving? Like you said, why are you
- 27:22leaving that much money to land? I mean, don't you think you'd at
- 27:25least put it under your pillow or hide it in a drawer?
- 27:27Or, you know, I don't know about you, but I don't leave that kind
- 27:31of cash laying around on the end just anywhere. 4 grand on the
- 27:34counter in an envelope. Yeah, you know, I mean, that's
- 27:38just ridiculous. Look, I tell you, I tell you
- 27:40what if if if I was getting ready to live off grid and I
- 27:45didn't believe in banks or anything like that, I would.
- 27:48I would literally cut a hole in the ground, create some kind of
- 27:54like like a close trap and then put all that money all in there
- 28:00in in that one area. There's a lot of that's.
- 28:03That's what I would do. There's a lot of older
- 28:05celebrities that like, didn't make the change over to like
- 28:11digital banking before. Like they waited a little bit.
- 28:15So it's just like they had so much cash lying around because
- 28:18they're like rich. They didn't make the change.
- 28:22So like, none of it's digital and like, none of it's online.
- 28:24They just have all this cash. Like, I don't know.
- 28:29I would lose track of it all unless I had something like
- 28:31you're saying, a hole in the ground.
- 28:33Just be like, here's all my money.
- 28:34Right. Well, I mean, because everybody
- 28:37knows, all right, you go into a house, you know, it's, it's,
- 28:41it's probably behind that picture or behind that wall.
- 28:45Very few people are going to say, oh, you got to open up the
- 28:49trap door through the floor to get to the money.
- 28:53So that's the reason why it's sad.
- 28:55That's what I would do. And also, you know I.
- 29:00Have a wall safe. I was just thinking about, well,
- 29:02yeah, that's what I was talking about.
- 29:04You know, most normal people have a wall safe.
- 29:08The one thing that I wanted to, I'm trying to find it now.
- 29:13No, it was it was like a dad joke or I.
- 29:19Can't. Oh, I got some news my my oldest
- 29:22granddaughter is. It will be 18 this year and
- 29:24she's I got the news yesterday that she's on track to graduate,
- 29:29which I am just so pleased. Oh, nice.
- 29:33And and I don't want to question, 'cause she failed
- 29:36freshman and sophomore and junior year, but hey, she's
- 29:40graduating. Yeah.
- 29:43Well, congratulations. So I had to contact the VFW
- 29:47'cause they want to, they want to rent it out and have the have
- 29:51their graduation party there at the still waiting to hear from.
- 29:55I figure if I don't hear something by the end, end of
- 29:59day, then I'll reach out again on Monday, 'cause you know
- 30:01those. You can always have it here.
- 30:03They fill it fast, man. People.
- 30:06The live graduation. Party.
- 30:08Well, I'm just saying you can. You can have it here.
- 30:10I don't know how you would put everything in there.
- 30:12But so I know where we're going after Thursday.
- 30:15Let's go. We're going to the studio.
- 30:19OK, so this is a joke that a friend of mine sent me
- 30:23yesterday. Nice things to whisper when
- 30:27hugging someone. You smell different when you're
- 30:31awake. Please help me.
- 30:34Then smile as if nothing happened.
- 30:37Soon. You have lovely skin.
- 30:41I can't wait to wear it. Your hair tastes like
- 30:45strawberries tonight. You.
- 30:51He knows. Don't go home.
- 30:54I always knew you would die in my arms.
- 31:00This is great. Every time I poop, I think of
- 31:03you. Hell yeah.
- 31:07Yeah, that's kind of. That's kind of sweet.
- 31:09No one will ever believe you. Yes.
- 31:15I wanted to get that Cliffs been there because it said cliffs,
- 31:18you know. Yes, yeah, yeah.
- 31:22I killed the Mufsa Mufasa. OK, Mufasa, I bet you.
- 31:30I'm thinking Mufasa. I bet you didn't feel me lick
- 31:36your ear. And then final one is nice
- 31:40things to whisper when hugging someone.
- 31:43Mother told me it would be like this.
- 31:46Jeez, I thought that was funny. I wanted to share that.
- 31:51I told my friend. I'm going to, I'm going to share
- 31:54that on the air. Very nice.
- 31:56Those are solid picks, though. Somebody go test some of those
- 31:59out though. So how?
- 32:00It goes right, we'll just we'll wait for Penny to get.
- 32:03Here, next and and on next week's show, we're going to all
- 32:05digest a dollar and do a little experiment, see what happens.
- 32:10Yes. Or.
- 32:11And whatever you do, don't don't go to a woman that has a guest
- 32:17shirt and say double DS because you'll you'll get like, you
- 32:20know, you'll you'll get harassment charges for you.
- 32:24I, I, I I heard about that too. Really.
- 32:27Yeah. Because.
- 32:29Because they have a shirt that says guess.
- 32:31Like the brand? Yeah, yeah.
- 32:33Guess jeans. Yeah.
- 32:34And then you say like double DS or BS or CS or something?
- 32:38I think that's a pretty valid reason.
- 32:41Yeah, that's pretty good, though I could keep that thought to
- 32:45yourself. Well.
- 32:46Yeah, I guess I could see why you'd get confused, but I mean,
- 32:49still, you should just. And it's nothing new.
- 32:52That's what maul, you know, back of the day and still today.
- 32:54That's what maul watchers do. I mean, there was a buddy like,
- 32:57what do you think? I think about it.
- 32:59Those look pretty big. I think they're C no, that's a
- 33:01double D, man. But they keep it to themselves.
- 33:05It reminds me of this video, this guy, it was like way back
- 33:09in like 2016, but he's just messing around with this lady.
- 33:14She's like, what's your name? He goes Hugh Humongous and she
- 33:21gets so mad. She was like, Humongous.
- 33:24What, are you sexually harassing me?
- 33:26Then? She keeps following him around
- 33:28the entire building, recording him because he said his name was
- 33:31Humongous. Really.
- 33:34That's a classic, yeah. I used to have a friend every
- 33:36time we went to the ski registration stuff you would
- 33:40always look at and say, hi, my name is Dirk Diggler, you, you,
- 33:44they get a kick out of it every time.
- 33:47My go to is Oliver clothes off. That's a pretty good one.
- 33:51Oliver clothes off. What?
- 33:53Was the one in the movie. They had one in the movie back
- 33:57in the day. What was that one night?
- 34:00It was guy's getting on the loudspeaker.
- 34:03I can't remember, but he was looking for his friend and so he
- 34:09told the girl, can you, can you announce it on the, you know,
- 34:12public system, announcement system?
- 34:14And so she's over there saying it over and over again.
- 34:18We were like, cracking up. She can't figure out why they're
- 34:20laughing. That happened to some dude at
- 34:22the City Council meeting. Yeah, he's like Dixie Norman's
- 34:29one time. You even said Mike Clitoris.
- 34:32He's all like, actually. Asking too, it's.
- 34:35Getting racy here. Yeah, it's it's a morning show.
- 34:39We're getting a little, a little, you know, dark in in
- 34:45here. So we yeah, we definitely need
- 34:47to turn it to 50 Shades of yellow instead of Gray.
- 34:54You know, Mike Rock, I can, I can lighten the mood a little
- 34:57bit. So the world's kind of going
- 35:01crazy right now for Stanley Cups, and it's not the hockey
- 35:04kind. So Target is selling these.
- 35:08They're like these giant insulated tumblers is what
- 35:11they're called. They're they're kind of like the
- 35:14cups you guys got right there, but they're like.
- 35:16Massive. Like super big.
- 35:19They have a handle on them. I don't know how they're at all
- 35:22practical for. Like carrying around with you or
- 35:26commuting, Yeah. Apparently they fit in couples.
- 35:31Yeah, people are just going wild for them.
- 35:34There's videos of like the displays at Targets.
- 35:36I just people as soon as they open just swarm those displays
- 35:41to grab them. I've even seen there's videos of
- 35:44people they're camping outside the Targets so that they can go
- 35:49and get these cocks. Guys I don't understand.
- 35:51That for a cup. For a cup.
- 35:52Freaking Cup. It's like the iPhone release.
- 35:55Hey dude, don't you remember Tickle Me Elmo?
- 35:58Or or. Or Beanie Babies.
- 36:01Oh, I I I think ticker me Elmo is alive.
- 36:04There are people that got murdered over the Tickle Me
- 36:07Elmo. You remember that craze or do
- 36:11you not remember? Yeah, that, that that was craze
- 36:14craze. Well dude, I went to the 98 All
- 36:17Star Gaming at at Cruise Field and we went, we didn't have
- 36:21tickets. We went down there just to take
- 36:23it all in and we have our kids there and and my best friend at
- 36:27the time and my wife and we're just taking it all in and all of
- 36:31a sudden the Clydesdales came by.
- 36:34But why's your Clydesdales? And there was a Budweiser
- 36:38representative walking behind the the procession and he's in
- 36:43his suit. You know, he's smartly dressed
- 36:45and we're sitting on the curb just watching everything.
- 36:47Wow, this is cool, you know, and getting ready to leave.
- 36:49And he's like, how you folks doing today?
- 36:52Make a Long story short, he's sort of walking away, turns
- 36:56around, comes back and he goes, oh, by the way, go on, join the
- 36:59game. Gave him six tickets and they
- 37:01were giving every person a beanie baby upon entrance.
- 37:05So we all got me. You wouldn't believe, dude,
- 37:08people. I made, I think $6000 that day.
- 37:12Oh my. Yeah.
- 37:13Because people were just going crazy.
- 37:15It's that that phenomenon where people are like, Oh my God,
- 37:17these are worth a lot of money. And so people are bringing bank
- 37:20to the to the game to buy these stupid things.
- 37:22I still have. You know, they're probably worth
- 37:24nothing now, but I have two or three left in the out the house,
- 37:29'cause they're a commemorative issue.
- 37:30You know, they had the the red, white and blue with the stars
- 37:33and stuff. But yeah, it's crazy, dude.
- 37:37People are just going crazy about these stupid Beanie
- 37:39Babies. The original NF TS.
- 37:41Yeah. Yeah, you know, it's like
- 37:43Yu-gi-oh cards, the. Beanie Babies that still have
- 37:47the label on that's that's the important.
- 37:49Thing the. Label has to be on the The label
- 37:51has to be Immaculate. It has to smell like like
- 37:56there's people that literally smell it.
- 37:59That's my retirement. That's why I kept it.
- 38:02Yeah, my grandma in Vegas has a whole glass case just full of
- 38:06them. Really.
- 38:07Yeah. And they all have the tags on
- 38:09them and everything. That was when I, like, first
- 38:12found out about stuff like that. Like, my mom always had like, a
- 38:15couple of them around the house. Dude, get mad at me when I tried
- 38:19to pull the tag off of them. Yeah, Like what is what do you?
- 38:21Mean. Can't play with it.
- 38:23Remember Cabbage Patch Kids? Those are those are those are
- 38:26craze. Oh my gosh, yes.
- 38:29I used to get made fun of because I collected Cabbage
- 38:33Patch. And.
- 38:34And he looked like one. Ouch, Ouch.
- 38:39Ouch. But I digress about. 20 minutes
- 38:44out, you guys. Know about.
- 38:46The Oh yeah, I guess we could go on a break if you guys are.
- 38:51No, we have do you guys have the the drop of Mike?
- 38:57Well, I mean, we could always. Talk about because.
- 38:59Because my only drop the mic was, you know, when you're on
- 39:03TikTok or you're on Instagram or when you're on Facebook, you
- 39:10know support your people tell yeah, hey, good job, blah, blah,
- 39:14blah. Don't be a douche on TikTok.
- 39:17OK, there we go. That's my drop the mic.
- 39:21I don't know. What do you do you have anything
- 39:23for? Drop the mic?
- 39:25I do not. I was hoping that you guys would
- 39:27come through in the clutch. Yeah, we're we're failing at
- 39:32that lately, aren't we? Oh, my gosh.
- 39:36Well, you know. We could screen share, share
- 39:40with the people who didn't see that game when they're by
- 39:42Yokich, that was a. Pretty off.
- 39:43The mic moment, yeah. So let's talk about that a
- 39:46little bit. So they were down.
- 39:48Were they losing, trailing the whole game?
- 39:50Yeah, they had the IT was. Pretty back and forth.
- 39:51It was just a bad fourth quarter for him.
- 39:54It was really the the third quarter like end of the third
- 39:57quarter started to get away from them And so with about like 5
- 40:00minutes left, they're down by 16 and then they came all the way
- 40:05back to win it by three on that game when they they gave up just
- 40:09four points and those last five. Minutes in the 4th.
- 40:13Quarter. That's awesome.
- 40:15That's awesome. Yeah, I know it's exciting
- 40:17times, you know, I mean, we we, we don't have anything else
- 40:22really to hang our hat on. The Nuggets are it pretty much,
- 40:25you know, and the ABS are. Doing good too.
- 40:27The ABS are looking pretty, pretty stellar.
- 40:31Last night McKinnon, Jerick McKinnon.
- 40:35Or. Nathan.
- 40:36Nathan McKinnon. Sorry, he hit a overtime goal to
- 40:41win the game for the ABS too, alright.
- 40:43Sweet two game winners. Two game winners in the same so.
- 40:47So the question is, fellas, you guys are sports aficionados.
- 40:51Why is it so hard to get local sports in Colorado?
- 40:54Why? Why do they make it so
- 40:55difficult? You have to have this.
- 40:58You have to, you know, altitude. I'm so tired of this monopoly
- 41:01with. It's money, yeah.
- 41:02Yeah, that's that's. Money.
- 41:04Of course it's money. But I don't care about that.
- 41:07I want to watch my local teams. Why do they make it?
- 41:09When we were growing up, dude, we didn't pay for nothing.
- 41:11You didn't have to have pay-per-view.
- 41:13You didn't have to have cable. You just watch the games.
- 41:16That is what I don't like, The altitude network, like kind of
- 41:20cutting off the Nuggets from every other station is kind of
- 41:24annoying because there was a while I didn't even have
- 41:27altitude. It was like I couldn't watch any
- 41:29Nuggets games. Well, I don't have cable, I have
- 41:32streaming service. So to watch not all the games,
- 41:36but to watch a good chunk of them, you got to have ESPN Plus.
- 41:39Yeah. So I got the ESPN Plus, but
- 41:42still, even though is it then they have blackout dates where
- 41:44you can't even get the game. And it's just so frustrating,
- 41:48man. You know?
- 41:49That's why, you know, I'm surprised that football hasn't
- 41:51gone that route. Well, and it's it's starting to
- 41:55go there because you know, Thursday Night Football, you can
- 41:57only get that on. Prime.
- 41:58That's only on Amazon Prime. That's on Prime Video this.
- 42:01Year NBC. They've had at least one.
- 42:03One like Sunday Night Football game where it was a Peacock
- 42:06exclusive you could only watch. Peacock like the ones on New
- 42:10Year's Eve, right? We couldn't even watch it was
- 42:13the Bills. I think we were trying to watch
- 42:15it on Peacock exclusive. You had to pay the extra
- 42:19subscription to watch one football game.
- 42:23I told you it was getting to this, though I don't.
- 42:25I told you it was getting to this.
- 42:27And I also told you that you know how we have Sam's Club, You
- 42:31know you have to pay a membership if people keep
- 42:34stealing stuff, that's what we're looking at.
- 42:38To be able to utilize that store or fast food or grocery store or
- 42:42anything, you're going to have to start paying like a a
- 42:46membership because that you know that the all that stuff that
- 42:52they're stealing, it's going to come down on as sooner or later.
- 42:56Yeah. And like you said, I mean
- 42:57Walmart has membership now or you get, you know, Walmart Plus
- 43:01or you get this, you know, membership hours and you get
- 43:05free shipping, whatever, whatever.
- 43:07And so yeah, it is going to that, you know, and I think I
- 43:09don't know what was it was it you that told me that if you
- 43:12order food through Uber or something like that and and you
- 43:15know, because they get the tip up front and all that.
- 43:17Yeah. If you give a crappy tip,
- 43:19they'll put you at the bottom of the list and your food will
- 43:22arrive cold. Yeah, they well, how they got
- 43:25tick tocks about it, you know, I mean.
- 43:28Criminal. I mean, they also got tick tocks
- 43:31about this guy bringing these and I don't know, I don't know
- 43:34how much of these are staged. I mean, of course it's on
- 43:38Tiktok, but it's it's great to sit here and and talk about it,
- 43:42you know. But there's people on Tiktok
- 43:44that are posting that they deliver these groceries to this
- 43:48house and then they don't even give them $10 tip, you know,
- 43:53just for the gas alone, you know, And they're like sitting
- 43:57there griping about it. And my thought is you know, if
- 44:02if you're not if satisfied with the tip, then go out on your own
- 44:10and and and do it. You can't expect.
- 44:12Get a new gig. Yeah, you can't.
- 44:15You cannot expect people to tip $10 when automatically the app
- 44:22is charging them $6 for a delivery fee.
- 44:25And and you know, H, there are people out there that truly need
- 44:30those services. They they're, you know, they're
- 44:32housebound or they're better, you know, whatever.
- 44:35They can't get out there. They don't have the the ability.
- 44:37They don't have a vehicle or whatever they can't drive.
- 44:39Agree. I understand.
- 44:40But let's face it dude, we're just getting more and more lazy.
- 44:45Our our society is all about convenience, people.
- 44:49Get jealous. People get jealous.
- 44:51They get envy. OK?
- 44:52And I was talking to a friend about this the other day.
- 44:55Two days ago actually. And like you know you, you'll
- 44:59see all their social media posts.
- 45:01They're like having a good time, you know, all happy and stuff.
- 45:05But like on the other side, they're not, they're not happy.
- 45:09They're just, they're just taking pictures of the the, the
- 45:13nice things. So we don't know what people are
- 45:16going through. Yeah.
- 45:19No, we don't. And and and it is sad.
- 45:23But that's like my pet peeve dude, Like my son, you know?
- 45:25And I'm not going to mention his name Lackey, but he is super
- 45:31lazy dude. It just irks me.
- 45:33I can't stand liars and I can't stand laziness.
- 45:37What is Is he? Is he lazy?
- 45:41Or is it that it's hard for him to take the next step when he's
- 45:48waiting on like follow-ups like appointments or?
- 45:53Well, you know, thank thankfully he works.
- 45:55He does have a good strong work ethic, 'cause he does work, he
- 45:57works full time. He's electrician.
- 45:59But the minute he gets home it's you know, change my clothes, get
- 46:05into comfortable clothes and then he's smoking the weed and
- 46:10and I I believe he's drinking every day.
- 46:12He's an alcoholic but he he's on ankle monitor and all this
- 46:14stuff. So and you know probation these
- 46:16days, I don't even get into that.
- 46:17But probation's a joke. It's a freaking joke.
- 46:20But he just just want he just wants to lay around, dude.
- 46:24He wants to eat, sleep, eat, sleep.
- 46:26And he's got kids. Dude, when your kids aren't
- 46:29here, that's fine. Whatever.
- 46:30I'm. We're not expecting you to lift
- 46:31a finger around this household. OK.
- 46:33But when your kids are here you you can't afford to be snoozing.
- 46:38You know. I just want to take a little
- 46:39quick nap. No, dude, you got kids here.
- 46:42You got to take the eye out of the equation.
- 46:43And that's just the way I was raised.
- 46:45You know, you don't, you know, we all make mistakes as parents.
- 46:47We all leave, you know, things left to be desired.
- 46:50But I can't stand that, dude. I can't stand when you're just,
- 46:54you know. And then so we kind of got into
- 46:56it last night and he's like, I think I do a pretty good job and
- 46:58I'm like, OK, So what? Tell me this last week what What
- 47:02are the things you've done with your your kids.
- 47:04He named about three things he he spends more time with the
- 47:06little one which is good. But his fifth grade son, you
- 47:11know he's at that age where he thinks he's a Billy badass and
- 47:13all that but you don't interact with him at all.
- 47:15And that's not cool, dude. He he, you know after my harping
- 47:19he did go to his practice last night.
- 47:20It was a basketball practice so that was good.
- 47:22But but yeah, laziness, man. Laziness is a pet peeve of mine
- 47:26and and we our society has gotten so lazy.
- 47:29It's just it's criminal, dude. It really is how lazy we've
- 47:34gotten. Oh order this and order that and
- 47:36get in. You know my groceries delivered
- 47:37and my food delivered and you know and and you ever notice how
- 47:42the drive through is always packed.
- 47:44You go into the lobby the. Empty in there.
- 47:46Empty dude. You get your food, quick boy,
- 47:48you get. It.
- 47:49Now, man, nobody's in there. I haven't eight hour in a long,
- 47:54long time. I haven't either.
- 47:55I think the last time I went out was the one with TGIF, which
- 47:58incidentally is closed. That TGIF is closed in Colorado.
- 48:03Oh, we we were like. Dead it wasn't.
- 48:05We were like the last survivors. Yeah.
- 48:06Remember how dead it was? Dead.
- 48:09It was when we went in there, and it's been like that for a
- 48:11long time. So yeah, I I just read the
- 48:14article the other day. Oh wow.
- 48:15They. Closed all.
- 48:15Colorado stores. They closed all of them.
- 48:19All of them. Dang all TGIF.
- 48:22In Colorado, yeah. Wow.
- 48:23Yeah, wow. You know, I'm telling you, man,
- 48:27I'm telling you, no matter what, if if crap hits a fan, we're
- 48:32going to break for a commercial break.
- 48:35And with that commercial break, Ltd Tactical.
- 48:40Ltd Tactical. Get ready.
- 48:45Get loaded. Gear up, folks.
- 48:48Gear up bugging. Out and now for the most famous
- 48:54words in Motorsports. Driver.
- 48:59Start your engine Why is the theme music not?
- 53:45It's very quiet. OK, make sure.
- 53:49Welcome back. Welcome back.
- 53:50Welcome back. Yeah.
- 53:52Oh. We had a little bit of a.
- 53:53Technical Oh, we were live. Technical difficulties today.
- 53:58Whoops, whoops. All right, you know what?
- 54:01We have an incredible interview coming up.
- 54:03Play the Play the beautiful bean footage.
- 54:07Yes. Ladies and gentlemen, Vietnam
- 54:21veteran and book author Mike Nelson, thank you for joining us
- 54:24today. Hey there.
- 54:26How you doing? Good, good.
- 54:29So, Mike, tell us a little bit about you.
- 54:32You know what? Why?
- 54:33We're having on Tell everybody about your story and you know.
- 54:41Oh jeez. Well, I don't know what to tell
- 54:45you. I'm basically just a normal guy.
- 54:48I got, we did my military service in the early 70s and
- 54:54after getting kind of busted up, came home and did my time.
- 55:01But you know, it's a bit different, Different world.
- 55:05Back then we didn't get welcomed home very often.
- 55:10Most of the time people didn't want anything to do with us.
- 55:13And I bought into that for a while, had some trouble, got
- 55:18into a lot of trouble and ended up having to work my way out of
- 55:23it my own way. There wasn't anybody else around
- 55:25that was going to help me. So after a number of years in
- 55:30getting my shit back together and I decided to write a book
- 55:35about it, and I ended up writing a couple of books about it.
- 55:39And that's pretty much my story. Well, that sounds pretty
- 55:45awesome, man. You used it in a constructive
- 55:48manner. That's awesome.
- 55:52Talk more about your books, the titles and and and what they're
- 55:55about and. Oh, sure.
- 55:58Well, the first book that I wrote was called Bless Me
- 56:01Father. I'm a Irish Catholic boy, so I
- 56:06was raised in the church. And so when you go to
- 56:09confession, you open up your confession by saying bless me
- 56:14Father, for I have said it has been the X number of weeks since
- 56:18the last confession. So my first book is called Bless
- 56:23Me Father because it's the beginning of my confession and I
- 56:26tell a story. It starts the story out with
- 56:30where I came from which was the mean streets of Chicago inner
- 56:35city and my folks were poor. We had a we lived in A1 room
- 56:42apartment that didn't have a window when I was little.
- 56:47So I grew up through there, and when I went into the service, I
- 56:50thought things would get a little better, but they didn't
- 56:52get better because I ended up going where there was trouble.
- 56:57And I got, I learned all about trouble while I was there.
- 57:03And so I told a story about that, told a story about coming
- 57:08out of Chicago and learning how to get along in mean streets.
- 57:12And then I told a story about learning how to get along in the
- 57:15service and how to get my way when I needed to get my way and
- 57:18how to stay out of trouble. Wasn't very good at that part,
- 57:22but I got better at it after a while, and I learned my way
- 57:27around. And then I came home and found
- 57:30out that the world hadn't changed all that much.
- 57:33And so that's what the first book is about, how I came
- 57:36through it all and learned my lesson.
- 57:41Excellent. And where and where?
- 57:46So are you on Audible? Can we get it on Amazon or you
- 57:51do you sell your book at where can we get your book?
- 57:54Well, my books are available on Amazon.
- 57:57I'm actually right in the process of of getting them on
- 58:03audiobook. We just started.
- 58:05We actually just started that process here not too long ago.
- 58:09They're available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and their
- 58:16Kindle books as well. And like I said, they'll be
- 58:19audiobooks fairly soon and well and whatever fairly soon is in
- 58:26the book world fairly soon. It's kind of set like talking
- 58:31about the government. You know, they say they're going
- 58:34to get to it and it'll be a quick process and we'll be
- 58:38talking about it this time next year and it still won't be done.
- 58:41Right, right. True statement.
- 58:44And So what about your second book?
- 58:472nd book picks up where the first one left off.
- 58:51I I didn't have the best relationship with my dad when I
- 58:56was younger because he couldn't figure out how I couldn't stay
- 59:00out of trouble and and he didn't have much to say.
- 59:05My dad was a man of very very few words.
- 59:08If he could say 3 words when most people would take 10, he'd
- 59:13use two. He didn't like people, he didn't
- 59:17like to meet people, he didn't even want to get some of the
- 59:19neighbors. Well, after all that, when he
- 59:23got older and he started getting a little bit feeble, he came to
- 59:27live with me for a while and gave me his diary.
- 59:33And he had never wanted to talk about his time in the Army.
- 59:37He never. We'd ask him about it.
- 59:40He fought in World War 2 and we knew that he had been a tail
- 59:43gunner on AB17 Bomber. But we didn't know anything
- 59:47about it. We'd ask him, Hey, Dad, what did
- 59:49you do? Did you kill Nazis?
- 59:51Did you? You know, were you a hero?
- 59:54And he'd always say if you have to talk about it, then you
- 59:57weren't there. And so he wouldn't talk about
- 1:00:01it. And then at the end he gave me
- 1:00:03his diary. And what his diary was, was it
- 1:00:05was a journal of every mission that he had flown as a tail
- 1:00:10gunner on AB17 bomber. And after I did a little
- 1:00:14research on it, I found out that the life expectancy of a tail
- 1:00:18gunner was five missions and he and he flew 26.
- 1:00:23Wow. So it was hair raising.
- 1:00:29It was, you know, just awful stuff came in dead stick landing
- 1:00:35gear wouldn't go down. Lost the waste Gunners, lost the
- 1:00:39navigator. One engine now.
- 1:00:43No hydraulics, stuff like that. So it No, that's all right.
- 1:00:52So if I had known those kinds of things, I might have had a
- 1:00:55better understanding of him when I was younger.
- 1:00:58Right? All of a sudden, here, it turned
- 1:01:01out that he and I were same people.
- 1:01:05He'd had the same kind of experience in the service that
- 1:01:08I'd had, and we'd never been able to talk about it.
- 1:01:12And if I had known that, I could have been friends with him a lot
- 1:01:15sooner. And so I learned what a hero my
- 1:01:19dad was and he would never talk about.
- 1:01:24So in the second book I used chapters from his journal to
- 1:01:31write the story that brings him into it in his World War 2
- 1:01:37times. And I brought the two together,
- 1:01:41his his experience and my experience.
- 1:01:45And then I kind of branched off into a frictional account of
- 1:01:48what it would be like if a father and son suddenly realized
- 1:01:52that they were both very accomplished felons.
- 1:01:58Forgive me, but that was a that that that was that was awesome.
- 1:02:04Well said, Well said. Sir.
- 1:02:06Yeah, so. So it turns into a bit of a
- 1:02:10crime novel at the end there, but the first half of the book
- 1:02:14is all very factual and it it details what it was like for him
- 1:02:21and and how that dovetailed into what it was like for me.
- 1:02:26And it's a fun book. It's just a fun book.
- 1:02:30Awesome. So do you think that was his
- 1:02:32way, you know, in his last years to introduce himself to you?
- 1:02:39I mean he gave you the journal and you know and I'm assuming
- 1:02:45that he gave it to you because he wanted you to know about his
- 1:02:48past and some something about his identity as as a man and and
- 1:02:53and maybe he wasn't you know able to articulate that you know
- 1:02:58while you guys were both like he was while he was of sound mind.
- 1:03:02So you think that's kind of his way of kind of, you know,
- 1:03:05sharing himself with you? Yeah.
- 1:03:08And and, you know, there was so many explanations in that diary.
- 1:03:11You know why? Why it was hard for him to make
- 1:03:13friends? Well, he, every friend that he
- 1:03:16made when he was in the service got killed.
- 1:03:19And so he wasn't, you know, he was, he wasn't friendly, but he
- 1:03:23wasn't friendly by necessity. And, you know, and I recognize
- 1:03:29now, I'm 72 years old now. And when I look back at my
- 1:03:33escapades when I was in the service, stuff that I wasn't
- 1:03:36very proud of 40 years ago or 30 years ago, is suddenly you start
- 1:03:42looking back on and you realize, hey, you know what?
- 1:03:45I did it right. I did pretty good as a matter.
- 1:03:49Of fact. And I think that it that's kind
- 1:03:52of what happened with him too, was, as he got older, the terror
- 1:03:57of it. I mean, I can't imagine being 19
- 1:04:00years old and strapping myself into the ass end of AB17 Bomber
- 1:04:06where if the plane went down, there was only one guy that was
- 1:04:09guaranteed dead and that was a tail gunner because there's no
- 1:04:12way out and I can't imagine doing that.
- 1:04:16And it like in his diary, it'll say, you know came in plane so
- 1:04:23full of holes we can't hear each other on the on the intercom
- 1:04:28landing gear wouldn't go down. Lost the waste gunner, lost the
- 1:04:31navigator. We go again tomorrow.
- 1:04:33Wow. Crazy.
- 1:04:37And you know, a contrast different.
- 1:04:39A huge contrast difference to their welcome home to compared
- 1:04:46to yours. I.
- 1:04:47Mean. Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:04:49You know, you guys, I don't know how old you guys are, but, you
- 1:04:53know, back in the in the 60s and 70s, I walked through the
- 1:04:58airport. Back then you had to travel.
- 1:05:00You flew military standby, so you had to wear your uniform.
- 1:05:05And walking through the airports back then in your uniform was a
- 1:05:09harrowing experience. People yelling at you, throwing
- 1:05:13cokes at you, you know, calling you a baby killer.
- 1:05:16And, you know, all kinds of nasty things that they would say
- 1:05:22to you. But, you know, we were just
- 1:05:24guys. We were just we.
- 1:05:27I didn't really think that we'd done anything really wrong, but
- 1:05:31everybody else seemed to. Right.
- 1:05:33And you know, we're, we are a nation of bandwagon jumpers.
- 1:05:38I mean, you know, you don't jump on the old bandwagon.
- 1:05:40Oh, well, that's what we're doing.
- 1:05:41That's. Yeah.
- 1:05:42And we, you know, and we seem to be a nation of like we listen to
- 1:05:47people talk and we don't like, try to find out on ourselves
- 1:05:52like what are the facts, you know, I I find that out a lot
- 1:05:57with like news media. They're like, really on it to
- 1:06:01jump, hey, this is going on. And then next thing you know,
- 1:06:05they don't like, they don't fulfill the whole story.
- 1:06:09Because once they fulfill the whole story, it's like, Oh well,
- 1:06:13that happens every day. So that was so yesterday, Yeah.
- 1:06:17Well, yeah, and. And I find nowadays that you get
- 1:06:21about this much news and then you get the rest of the hours
- 1:06:26filled up with how you should think about that news.
- 1:06:29Exactly. Well, I don't watch the news.
- 1:06:34So Mike, it's kind of a a side question.
- 1:06:37But so based on your experience, I play on a softball to senior
- 1:06:42softball league and I've got a bunch of guys that are Vietnam
- 1:06:45vets. And I've I, you know, kind of
- 1:06:48found out through that those experiences that a lot of them
- 1:06:52don't use VA healthcare or even have applied for benefits.
- 1:06:57And so I've kind of been they're you know champion that cause
- 1:07:01trying to help them. You know the guys that are
- 1:07:03willing. Some guys are like, you know,
- 1:07:04leave me alone, don't, don't, I don't want to.
- 1:07:06But do you, do you, are you involved in that?
- 1:07:09Do you have a disability rating? Do you, you know, do you utilize
- 1:07:13VA healthcare? Yes, yes, good, good.
- 1:07:20And yes, when I got home from the service, I got home in
- 1:07:28January of 73 and in June of that year I had my first
- 1:07:35orthopedic surgery to correct stuff that had happened to me
- 1:07:40while I was in the service. That was the first one.
- 1:07:44And since then I'm about to go in for my 22nd surgery in March.
- 1:07:54It's already scheduled, but I had had 12 or 13 procedures
- 1:08:04already. I've had four surgeries on my
- 1:08:08left knee before they replaced it, and three surgeries on my
- 1:08:13right knee before they replaced that.
- 1:08:15I've had my left elbow completely reconstructed.
- 1:08:19I've had my right shoulder replaced and it's worn out now.
- 1:08:22So I got to have it replaced again.
- 1:08:25And I've had my left shoulder operated on three times and so I
- 1:08:30paid for that out of pocket from the time I got out in 73 until
- 1:08:362008 when I finally said I can't cover this anymore, it's just
- 1:08:42going down worse and worse and worse.
- 1:08:46So I filed for disability and it's it's one thing to advise
- 1:08:50people to apply for the disability and stuff with the
- 1:08:53VA, but you got to know that you're in it, you're going to,
- 1:08:56you're in for a fight. And for a fight, definitely.
- 1:09:00You know, I always tell people you know, it's it's it's a
- 1:09:03dismal outlook, but they either want you to die or give up or
- 1:09:06both. Well, that's what they do.
- 1:09:08And and you know, and I've joked about it and then I've said, you
- 1:09:11know, they're just stalling you until you die.
- 1:09:15Sooner or later, You know, just through attrition they're going
- 1:09:18to reduce their obligation. But I filed in 2008 and fought
- 1:09:25my way through until 2013, when they gave me 10% and and then
- 1:09:33from then on I've gone 10 percent, 30%, Sixty percent,
- 1:09:3880%. And finally, just last month I
- 1:09:44got 100%. Oh, congratulations.
- 1:09:47I've got three artificial joints, two that are completely
- 1:09:51rebuilt and and every day hurts, and all because I was in the
- 1:09:57wrong place at the right time for about 15 minutes.
- 1:10:01Really. You're like RoboCop.
- 1:10:06Got a lot of spare parts my the one of the surgeons told my
- 1:10:10daughter that when I die, if they melt me down, she'll have
- 1:10:15enough titanium to pay for a college degree.
- 1:10:22And and he was dead serious. Actually, yeah, he was kind of
- 1:10:27dead serious about. That that's awesome, Mike.
- 1:10:32It's awesome. So you know long time from you
- 1:10:38know the 70s till now and and it's I applaud you for, for, you
- 1:10:44know, figuring your way through all that mess you know?
- 1:10:48Being resilient. Yeah, being resilient and.
- 1:10:51New word for me this week. Resilience.
- 1:10:53I just had it. I haven't pronounced.
- 1:10:55It correctly. And he used it correctly.
- 1:10:59Yeah, he used it in the proper context.
- 1:11:01Can you believe that? I'm from charter.
- 1:11:03I take field trips. Yeah, but yeah, our hat's off to
- 1:11:08you. I mean, not only did you
- 1:11:09survive, but you thrived. You you wrote a couple books.
- 1:11:13That's totally inspirational. You have definitely got me
- 1:11:15intrigued. I'm going to have to go home and
- 1:11:18order those books and then check them out, 'cause I really like
- 1:11:20the fact that you I love fiction, but I absolutely adore
- 1:11:26non fiction because to me when I watch documentaries or I watch a
- 1:11:32a movie that's based on fact, I love it.
- 1:11:34So I love the fact that you've combined kind of the two worlds.
- 1:11:37That's intriguing to me. So I'm eager to to to peruse
- 1:11:43your your two books. I think it's going to be great.
- 1:11:45The question that I have is a question that came up this week
- 1:11:52on DV radio barracks talk that we we do every Saturday.
- 1:11:56And the question was do you benefit more self-publishing or
- 1:12:03do you benefit more going through a publisher?
- 1:12:08Wow, that's a good question. It's kind of a deep one, to tell
- 1:12:12you the truth. The thing.
- 1:12:13Is is that there are 1,000,000 and millions and millions of
- 1:12:17books out there and it's hard to get a publisher to pay attention
- 1:12:25you, you know, you can write, you can write the great, the
- 1:12:28Great American novel and if they're not in the mood and if
- 1:12:32that's not what they're looking for, they're just not
- 1:12:35interested. You can go ahead and self
- 1:12:37publish and then get into the marketing stream and see how you
- 1:12:44do there, take your chances and etcetera.
- 1:12:50Both of them are a good way to go.
- 1:12:51But you're gonna it's gonna be awfully frustrating because you
- 1:12:56get a lot more turn down letters from the publisher than you do
- 1:13:00if you get it and they also have to take a look.
- 1:13:03I think you know you're you're asking me for my opinion, so I'm
- 1:13:07giving it to you, right? Well, you have experience.
- 1:13:11I don't have any experience at all.
- 1:13:13And that's the one benefit of having a show like this is that
- 1:13:18you know? Get a lot of tidbits.
- 1:13:19We can ask somebody that you know you has a lot of
- 1:13:24experience. With the trenches.
- 1:13:25Yeah, that you can help other veterans.
- 1:13:29You know, they're they're trying to do the same thing, so.
- 1:13:32Sure. Well, here's, here's what the
- 1:13:34one thing that I think you got to you got to know.
- 1:13:37And I think you got to know it right away is what are you
- 1:13:41writing the book for in the 1st place?
- 1:13:43You know, if you're trying to write the Great American novel
- 1:13:45that's going to be on the New York Times bestseller list, you
- 1:13:49got a tough hill to climb. But if you're writing the book,
- 1:13:52because for me writing especially the first book and
- 1:13:58and the second book, I've got 5 now that I've written.
- 1:14:04But especially with the 1st and the 2nd book, I had a lot of
- 1:14:09anger that I was carrying around with me for a really long time.
- 1:14:14And when it was the quiet times and the, you know, the the quiet
- 1:14:19hours in the middle of the night when you wake up with a
- 1:14:22nightmare and you walk around and you got all this stuff just
- 1:14:26churning inside of you and stuff.
- 1:14:28And I found that when I started writing, I didn't write a thing
- 1:14:32until I was 68 years old. And when I sat down and started
- 1:14:38writing this stuff, it was cathartic for me.
- 1:14:41And it was a release. And I got an awful lot of stuff
- 1:14:45out on paper that I didn't even know that I'd been feeling.
- 1:14:49And when it was done, I actually felt a lot better and a lot felt
- 1:14:57a lot better about myself, my situation.
- 1:15:00And so I wrote it. Turns out I wrote those books
- 1:15:04for me. I didn't write them for
- 1:15:06everybody else. And so I tell people all the
- 1:15:08time, they're the greatest stories.
- 1:15:10Never read. Yeah, that's powerful stuff,
- 1:15:16Mike. That's powerful stuff.
- 1:15:18And I know we appreciate your candor, you know, 'cause it's
- 1:15:23not easy to talk about this stuff.
- 1:15:24You know, this is some tough stuff and and you know, we're
- 1:15:27guys, you know, guys like to put up a facade.
- 1:15:29We're we're taught to be you know throw some dirt on it and
- 1:15:32rub it and and get back on the horse and so we really
- 1:15:36appreciate you sharing and and and your your complete honesty
- 1:15:41that's awesome. And so your other three books,
- 1:15:43are they same? Kind of along the same lines,
- 1:15:47are they different? No.
- 1:15:51No. Yes and no.
- 1:15:53No, I mean, they're all the same because they're all from me.
- 1:15:57You know the first book and the second book, if you're if you're
- 1:16:01a gung ho army guy, you're you're going to find some things
- 1:16:05in there that you don't really like very much.
- 1:16:07I mean, there's a there's a quite a bit in the first book of
- 1:16:11how how I accidentally went AWOL for four months. 4.
- 1:16:25Months. OK, I tell the story of those
- 1:16:28four months and you know, that's an experience that I'm
- 1:16:33guaranteeing that there isn't. There's not another military
- 1:16:37person on the planet that had that experience.
- 1:16:41I, excuse me. I got to Seattle, to Seatac Air
- 1:16:48Base and we flew in from Chicago and it was pouring down rain.
- 1:16:55And they marched us out and they put us on these school buses and
- 1:16:59they told me to take the bags and throw them in the back of
- 1:17:02the bus. And everybody's had their little
- 1:17:06AWOL bags and took and walked around the back of the bus,
- 1:17:10threw in all the bags, shut the door, slapped the door, walked
- 1:17:14around. Before I could get to the door
- 1:17:16to get on the bus, the doors closed and the bus drove away,
- 1:17:20left me standing there on the sidewalk.
- 1:17:23So that was in Seattle. So I got picked up for vagrancy
- 1:17:30in Fresno, CA. Four months later, I had walked
- 1:17:36from Seattle all the way to LA and then back out to Fresno, and
- 1:17:44I had a lot of experiences along the way.
- 1:17:46Yeah, that's a book in and of itself.
- 1:17:51Right. So that doesn't appeal to people
- 1:17:55that are pro military and stuff like that because I was having a
- 1:18:00good time and I I I forgot to let them know that they left me
- 1:18:04behind. So I paid for it though.
- 1:18:08Yeah. So I was going to say what was
- 1:18:10the outcome of that? Did they?
- 1:18:12I got some stockade time and because I hadn't really been in
- 1:18:16the service yet, I still hadn't. I hadn't even made it to basic
- 1:18:19training yet. And so they definitely weren't
- 1:18:24going to let me out because I, you know, that would have they.
- 1:18:29They thought I was a hippie. And so they thought that the
- 1:18:33reason that I had done that was because I was a protester and
- 1:18:37stuff like that. So they used the stockade and
- 1:18:41the basic training to get my mind right.
- 1:18:43As they said in Cool Hand Luke and I got my mind right.
- 1:18:47All right, I was the honor graduate out of BASIC and a out
- 1:18:51of AIT. And so I went to the head of the
- 1:18:54class, believe me, and now I'm 100% disabled.
- 1:19:01Exactly. Wow, that is so awesome.
- 1:19:05So, so tell us a little bit more about that.
- 1:19:07So you missed the bus. You're standing there.
- 1:19:09The bus is driving away. You're so it's the bus to take
- 1:19:12you to boot camp. Yes.
- 1:19:13Yes. Yeah.
- 1:19:15And So what happened next? You're like, well, I'm, I'm sure
- 1:19:19you went some there on the base. You went and talked to him and
- 1:19:22said, you know, hey, I missed my bus.
- 1:19:23Or do you just say, Nope, I'm exiting exiting stage left and
- 1:19:27I'm going to, you know, leave myself to my own devices?
- 1:19:30Or how'd that transpire? Well, I was 18 years old, so my
- 1:19:35level of intelligence was probably about the same.
- 1:19:44And so I was standing there in the rain.
- 1:19:46I'm telling you what it was raining.
- 1:19:49Chickens drown in that kind of rain.
- 1:19:51It was really coming down. And it was about, it was about
- 1:19:552:00 in the morning. And so the airport was closed.
- 1:19:58There wasn't any USO office or anything else.
- 1:20:02There wasn't anybody around. And so the bus, bus went that
- 1:20:07way. So I started walking that way.
- 1:20:10And. When I got to the gate, I just
- 1:20:14went on out, walked into well, I walked into a a a ways.
- 1:20:20I got picked up and I got taken into Seattle and that's where
- 1:20:23the adventure began. Was in Seattle and slowly, you
- 1:20:28know just met somebody. Ended up going down the coast
- 1:20:32aways and met somebody else and went down the coast a little
- 1:20:36farther and went to a wedding. Went panhandling.
- 1:20:43Learned all kinds of stuff that were pretty good life skills if
- 1:20:49you if you ask me, but I wouldn't recommend it because
- 1:20:52you sleep under a lot of underpasses when you're
- 1:20:55hitchhiking down the highway. And yeah, were you drafted or
- 1:20:59did you enlist? Yep.
- 1:21:02Yep. My number was the only lottery
- 1:21:07I've ever won in my life. My number was 2.
- 1:21:12That's the same thing my dad said.
- 1:21:13My dad was a Vietnam vet and I didn't find out until I joined
- 1:21:18the military. So I told you yet what you mean
- 1:21:22by back then. You guys just didn't talk about
- 1:21:24it. No, they didn't talk about it.
- 1:21:27In fact, I'll tell you a story. The day that I went in the
- 1:21:30service, I was going downtown in Chicago.
- 1:21:38They have the a fee station, which is the intake Center for
- 1:21:41all the branches. It's a big place, so I had to
- 1:21:46take the train into town and I had to be there at 6:00 AM or
- 1:21:51whatever it is. So I was up before dark,
- 1:21:53daylight, and I got my stuff ready and got my bag ready.
- 1:21:58And I came downstairs and my dad was waiting for me by the door
- 1:22:02and he said I'm going to go with you.
- 1:22:06And so he and I rode the train into town all the way.
- 1:22:10And as usual, he didn't say Jack shit about anything.
- 1:22:15He just sat there next to me on the train.
- 1:22:17We went all the way into town. We walked all the way to the AP
- 1:22:20center, which is long ways for the train station, didn't have
- 1:22:23anything to say, got to the steps and got ready to walk up
- 1:22:28the steps. I turned around and say goodbye
- 1:22:30to him and he put his hand on my shoulder and he said if you want
- 1:22:34to go to Canada, I'll drive you and.
- 1:22:41He was serious. He was dead serious.
- 1:22:43Yes, that's fine, man. That's that's wild.
- 1:22:48But I didn't know what his history was at that time.
- 1:22:51Right. Right.
- 1:22:53You know, the only people that went to Canada were the, you
- 1:22:56know, the conscientious objectors and and the people
- 1:23:00that were avoiding the draft. And so I didn't.
- 1:23:02I was shocked that my dad even knew that you could go to Canada
- 1:23:06and get out of it, let alone that he was willing to take me.
- 1:23:09Wow. That's amazing.
- 1:23:13Well, before we go to our last question for the for the day, I
- 1:23:19didn't know if there was anything that you know before
- 1:23:23before we let you go, if there was a new book or a a new
- 1:23:29project that you're you're kind of working on that you wanted to
- 1:23:33tell us about before we go to the the the last question which
- 1:23:38is the time of Shine. So I I wanted to give you that
- 1:23:43opportunity. Maybe we maybe we just didn't
- 1:23:46cover something that you know, you wanted to push out.
- 1:23:50Oh well, that's my generous of you.
- 1:23:52I appreciate that the first two books that we've talked about
- 1:23:56that. The first one is bless me,
- 1:23:59Father. The second one is for I have
- 1:24:01sinned and they they speak for themselves.
- 1:24:07The third book is called The Heretic.
- 1:24:09And one of the things I did when I finally did get my shit
- 1:24:14together was I went back and went to Med school and got my
- 1:24:17doctorate, and I practiced for 40 years as a rural physician
- 1:24:25doing house calls three days a week in the Amish community.
- 1:24:29So the Heretic is about, they're just true stories about me
- 1:24:36practicing medicine and a horse and buggy kind of medicine where
- 1:24:41you walk into a house and you don't know what you're walking
- 1:24:43into and maybe you have a baby to deliver and maybe you have
- 1:24:48somebody that needs stitches or casting or things like that.
- 1:24:52So the third book is The Heretic, and that's what it's
- 1:24:55about. It's all pretty true stories
- 1:25:00about what what it's like to do a rural practice.
- 1:25:06And the last two books that I've written are fantasy books, young
- 1:25:11adult fantasy books that I wrote with my daughter.
- 1:25:15And she's a, she's a school teacher and teaches ESL.
- 1:25:22And so we started when I was writing these other books, I
- 1:25:27finished them and I said I'm done.
- 1:25:28I'm empty. I don't, I don't think I need to
- 1:25:31write anything else. I don't really consider myself
- 1:25:34to be an author. I was just telling the story and
- 1:25:37she said no, you got to keep writing books.
- 1:25:39And I said I don't have anything to write about.
- 1:25:42And she said, write about us. And so since she was 8 years
- 1:25:46old, every year I would take her out of school for two weeks and
- 1:25:51we would go on an adventure. And we would go someplace, the
- 1:25:56Apostle Islands, look at shipwrecks.
- 1:25:58Or we would go to San Diego and go to the Oceanography Center or
- 1:26:07Nashville or the Florida Keys and we would do turtle rescue
- 1:26:14every year. A different adventure for her,
- 1:26:16just her and I. She said right about us, take
- 1:26:21those adventures and turn them into a story and make it about
- 1:26:26magic. And so that's what I did.
- 1:26:30And so now there's two, and there'll be another one coming
- 1:26:33out in the spring. That is absolutely awesome.
- 1:26:37I mean, I I I applaud you. You know, like I said earlier,
- 1:26:42not only did you survive, but you thrived.
- 1:26:44I mean, every time I turn around, Mike, you're surprised
- 1:26:47in the hell out of me. I I I didn't think you had it in
- 1:26:49yet. Neither did my father.
- 1:26:55But yeah, that that is awesome. I I'm just so intrigued.
- 1:26:58I can't wait to get home and and order some books and and I got
- 1:27:02new reading because I I I can't call myself a voracious reader.
- 1:27:06But I like I said, I really absolutely just AM intrigued and
- 1:27:13adore a non fiction writing because to me it's real life.
- 1:27:17It's about things I can relate to.
- 1:27:19You know, military. You know, our whole show is
- 1:27:21based on helping vets, helping vets get their benefits, help
- 1:27:27them with understanding new VA law, helping them learn about
- 1:27:32nonprofits out there that are available to them.
- 1:27:34And so this is just right down our alley.
- 1:27:36We we really are honored that you're on our show.
- 1:27:38We'd love to have you back sometime.
- 1:27:40Maybe talk about your new books. And we applaud you for your
- 1:27:45accomplishments in life because like you said, you were like
- 1:27:47most kids at that age, you know, 18, you get in trouble, you
- 1:27:50don't care about nothing, and then you finally get your head
- 1:27:53on straight and you start doing things with your life.
- 1:27:54So. People tell me the first two
- 1:27:59books are real page Turner, so I I would throw that in there, my
- 1:28:04partner now who is a retired attorney, she said.
- 1:28:11I read those two books and I cannot believe you've never been
- 1:28:15convicted of a felony. I love you to death, you know,
- 1:28:21and and by the way, Mike, I'm a I'm a retired educator myself.
- 1:28:25So my hat's off to your daughter.
- 1:28:26And you know, I, I, I, I think she could write a book, 'cause I
- 1:28:31know I could, with all the experiences and and and things
- 1:28:36that we witnessed and were part of, you know, in the public
- 1:28:39education system. Through that, yeah.
- 1:28:45So anything else there you want to do, your time to shine.
- 1:28:47I think it's that time. It's the time to shine.
- 1:28:49This is your time to shine. Baby, it's your time to shine.
- 1:28:58All right, Mike, this is your time to shine.
- 1:29:01I think you pretty much covered everything, but this is just
- 1:29:04your time to talk about anything that we didn't cover, possibly
- 1:29:08didn't cover or something that's just you're just itching to to
- 1:29:12to put out there on the air, on the airwaves.
- 1:29:15The one thing I'd like to circle back to is the question of VA
- 1:29:22care. And I have to say my VA care has
- 1:29:27been great. It really has.
- 1:29:29Once I started getting my care at the VA hospital, I go to the
- 1:29:35VA hospital in Madison, WI and it is amazing just it's it's
- 1:29:43most excellent. It's tied into the University of
- 1:29:46Wisconsin Medical school and So what I would tell people that
- 1:29:52are vets and and getting into the pipeline is don't give up.
- 1:29:58Make sure that you keep working at it.
- 1:30:01Being turned down the first time should be a challenge, not
- 1:30:04defeat and definitely continue on.
- 1:30:09Sooner or later you're gonna get somebody to listen to you and
- 1:30:13make sure that they pay attention.
- 1:30:15So I'm gonna ask you this, 'cause I have a feeling that you
- 1:30:18have a really good one. Is there a quote that you go by
- 1:30:22that that thrives for you to, you know, to continue tomorrow
- 1:30:28that maybe one of us that's haven't heard before?
- 1:30:34My dad used to say you're not the dumbest person on the
- 1:30:37planet, but you better hope he doesn't die.
- 1:30:39I love it. I love it.
- 1:30:49That was a term of endearment. Mike, thank you so much for
- 1:30:57being on the show. We really have it.
- 1:31:00Yeah, it was a big pleasure. I haven't laughed so hard in my
- 1:31:03life. That's awesome.
- 1:31:07Thank you so much Mike, for being on the show.
- 1:31:09Yes, Sir. We'll we'll we'll we'll touch
- 1:31:11base on on updates. All righty then.
- 1:31:15Thank you guys. Have a great day.
- 1:31:17You bet. Thank you.
- 1:31:19Thank you. Well, that was a fantastic
- 1:31:21interview and once again ladies and gentlemen that was sponsored
- 1:31:26by Now Hear Us. So you know if you're if you
- 1:31:30need APR person or somebody to open some numbers for you, you
- 1:31:37can get a hold of Now Hear us. They're on our Facebook page.
- 1:31:40As well, do you need a piano? Person No.
- 1:31:43No. Like APR person.
- 1:31:44Like APR Person Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:31:46Public relations? Yes, yes.
- 1:31:47Public relations? Yes, Yes, Sorry about that.
- 1:31:50I had a brain. I had a brain fart.
- 1:31:52We get a we get a lot of interviews from them.
- 1:31:56So I'm going to figure. Out of these books man.
- 1:31:58I'm intrigued man. They they sound great.
- 1:32:00I especially the first two you know that he talked about the
- 1:32:04the forgive me father and then the other thrives in that's
- 1:32:08awesome that's. Awesome.
- 1:32:10So and people that have told me so many times that I should
- 1:32:14write a book and like there for a while I was thinking about
- 1:32:21writing a book and then after I've got like, you know,
- 1:32:24everything, now I've kind of lost motivation to write that
- 1:32:29book. Well, you know, and I don't want
- 1:32:30to offend anybody and this is just my personal opinion and
- 1:32:33I'm, I'm a newbie, but that's why I write songs, because to
- 1:32:37me, it's a lot, lot, lot, lot, lot easier for me.
- 1:32:41I'm not going to. And again, there's some great
- 1:32:43outstanding songwriters. Obviously we all know songs that
- 1:32:47we love and and and the ones that I know personally are just
- 1:32:50incredible people. But I just don't think I have
- 1:32:53the stamina to write a Popo book.
- 1:32:56I can write, you know, 6-3 or four verses in a chorus and
- 1:33:00maybe a bridge, but. Oh, look at me, man.
- 1:33:02I text you and you have to sit there and Dakota for 1/2 an
- 1:33:06hour. I mean, Can you imagine me
- 1:33:08writing? A code, a ring when you need it.
- 1:33:12The title will be 2% of Americans Can Decode.
- 1:33:15Where's my Enigma machine? I need to use my Enigma machine.
- 1:33:20Read this. Yeah, I'm terrible at writing.
- 1:33:26I I need an automatic decoder when it comes to me writing.
- 1:33:30And yeah, it's sad. Like I got Grammarly the other
- 1:33:34day. It was like.
- 1:33:35You do voice to text. That's the.
- 1:33:36Big part of it. Well, maybe you're.
- 1:33:39Like talking like this all the time, of course.
- 1:33:40It's going to make maybe. But when Grammarly tells me,
- 1:33:44hey, congratulations, you graduated in the ninth grade, I
- 1:33:46don't think that's a positive, you know, explanation.
- 1:33:50Try to find some positivity in there, so come on.
- 1:33:54Dude, hey, last week I was six. Yeah, last time I was 6th grade,
- 1:33:58so. You're making progress.
- 1:33:59Oh man, oh dude. I got to tell you before we go
- 1:34:03to break, I I am. I hope I don't say this wrong
- 1:34:08and you know, ruin the punchline, but I I heard of the
- 1:34:12best dad joke two days ago. How does a pirate know that
- 1:34:19they're a pirate? They are just are.
- 1:34:29I have a feeling I I screwed up that punch line, but it was
- 1:34:34worth a shot. And So what was it supposed to
- 1:34:36be saying? They are who they are.
- 1:34:38Yeah, they are. They are who they are.
- 1:34:41Gotcha. No, you didn't mess it.
- 1:34:43Up. OK, All right.
- 1:34:45And then there was one that I read today that it's it's, it's
- 1:34:52nice being left-handed because they're always right.
- 1:34:58Or it is something like a joke or whatever.
- 1:35:00So maybe it was See, This is why I don't tell jokes.
- 1:35:06This is why I don't tell jokes. So now what?
- 1:35:09I always. Got.
- 1:35:11To write it down, you don't have your mic on, yeah, yeah.
- 1:35:17How about now? OK, that's the one with the
- 1:35:19stuck button. That's the one with the stuck
- 1:35:22button. He's got to have a note card
- 1:35:25because I always forget, oh man, I have to write it down or else
- 1:35:28it's just gone. Now you know the the things that
- 1:35:31I was going to bring out before we go to break the bobblehead
- 1:35:37contest. So you're probably thinking to
- 1:35:39yourself, what in the hell is the bobblehead contest?
- 1:35:42It's a contest just to get our listeners and our viewers

- 1:37:36we get these sponsors. That's where we're heading with
- 1:37:38it. And then if you don't know
- 1:37:41Justin, dangerly look him up on TikTok.
- 1:37:45It was very hilarious. He did a bet against I, I forget
- 1:37:51his name, Scott something that the Wolverines was going to
- 1:37:56lose. If you didn't check out the what
- 1:37:59was it, the Rose Bowl. If you didn't check it out,
- 1:38:02Michigan won. And now Michigan goes to the
- 1:38:06national championship, right? OK.
- 1:38:09All right. So it was on Monday at ESPN at.
- 1:38:16Like 615th. Yeah, something like that.
- 1:38:18OK, All right. And so it was funny, if you look
- 1:38:22at a TikTok Justin, which is he's active duty Air Force.
- 1:38:28That's the reason why I want to bring it up.
- 1:38:31Have a great scene of him with the Michigan jersey on singing
- 1:38:36victory with Depends diapers on with and.
- 1:38:40He soiled himself. No, no, he didn't soil himself.
- 1:38:44But you know, look, if anybody ever does a bet and you wear
- 1:38:51diapers, you have to wear the white diapers.
- 1:38:54OK, that. Depends.
- 1:38:57The graze doesn't cut it. That doesn't cut it.
- 1:38:59No, I want cloth. Right, exactly with.
- 1:39:02The big you know. Right.
- 1:39:05What do they call those Bobby pin in the front?
- 1:39:07Eight mile style. Yeah, eight mile style.
- 1:39:11There you go. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:39:13You know, and you can you can put a wife beater on for you
- 1:39:18know, extra measure, but yeah, for sure funny moment.
- 1:39:22If you want a good laugh check it out on Tiktok.
- 1:39:26Other than that, before we go tribute to troop, do you have
- 1:39:30anything that you wanted to? Bring out.
- 1:39:33I want to say that you know that wife Peter comment you just
- 1:39:35made. Wife beaters are offended by
- 1:39:37that. So, you know, you might want to
- 1:39:38think. Oh, no, that's true.
- 1:39:41See, This is why it's just don't talk.
- 1:39:46This is why you guys show Wednesday will be really good.
- 1:39:49I don't talk. I'm just a sound guy.
- 1:39:55The fans love hearing Joel. Don't worry, yeah.
- 1:39:59Oh yeah, all. Right.
- 1:40:00Well, well, we What are we doing?
- 1:40:02Again. All right.
- 1:40:02Well, ladies and gentlemen, we're it's that time then we're
- 1:40:06going to go to Tribute to the Troops.
- 1:40:08Let's try to. Speak in a bit.
- 1:40:12I don't know how to tell the story.
- 1:40:14Well, you got to Joe. He's telling their people what
- 1:40:18these men do here. You tell them how my troopers
- 1:40:20died. Friends and family, thank you
- 1:40:42for tuning in today as MBR pays tribute to Army Staff Sergeant
- 1:40:46Matthew Q Mcclintock, 30, of Albuquerque, NM, who died
- 1:40:51January 5th, 2016 in Afghanistan.
- 1:40:54Mcclintock was assigned to 1st Battalion, 19th Special Forces
- 1:40:58Group in Buckley, WA. Mcclintock joined the Army in
- 1:41:022006 and deployed to Iraq in 2007.
- 1:41:06He was also deployed to Afghanistan from August 2012 to
- 1:41:09May 2013. In 2014, he left active duty and
- 1:41:14became part of the Washington Guard.
- 1:41:16Mcclintock is survived by his wife, son and parents at the
- 1:41:19time of his death. On behalf of everyone here at
- 1:41:23MBR, we want to thank you Staff Sergeant Matthew Hugh
- 1:41:26Mcclintock, for your service and dedication to this country.
- 1:41:30Our thoughts and prayers are with your friends and family.
- 1:46:02Hey, there we go. We finally got it.
- 1:46:06That was, that was a great one, that.
- 1:46:07Was a great one on point on point, Mike.
- 1:46:12That was nice. We're so proud of you.
- 1:46:13Oh man. OK so I wouldn't say it is kind
- 1:46:18of like a drop of my I I I want to ask you guys because you guys
- 1:46:22are sports guys. This last Sunday, this last
- 1:46:28Sunday, the Ravens welcomed Hall of Fame legend did a whole
- 1:46:34promotion thing. It was Ray Rice.
- 1:46:39Now Ray Lewis. Ray Ray Rice.
- 1:46:45They who's? The worst villain?
- 1:46:47Well, I was going to say is both of them.
- 1:46:49Technically they are never convicted, but society has
- 1:46:53already convict them. I think Ray Lewis is a little
- 1:46:57different than the Ray Rice thing, but.
- 1:47:00Yeah, Ray Rice is kind of cut and drowned when you.
- 1:47:02Got a? Video Yeah, Yeah, it's kind of
- 1:47:06hard. To tell you.
- 1:47:07True to to to deny that, you know, But I don't really even
- 1:47:11know that that. Do you guys know the details of
- 1:47:13Ray Lewis? I know.
- 1:47:14You I don't. Charge a double murder or
- 1:47:16something like that, but I don't remember.
- 1:47:17What Something about a white suit?
- 1:47:22I need to try and remember the story, 'cause it was the same
- 1:47:24season that they were going to the Super Bowl.
- 1:47:26Yes. Was like when it was getting
- 1:47:28like, big, yeah. Dang.
- 1:47:31And he went out with a bang, 'cause he had already announced
- 1:47:33his retirement. Yeah, so that was his last year.
- 1:47:36And they're gonna go for the gusto and.
- 1:47:38And you know what A way to go out.
- 1:47:39You know, beat a double murderer app, announce your retirement
- 1:47:43and win the Super Bowl. I'm going to Disney World.
- 1:47:47Look it up really quick actually.
- 1:47:50Right. Well, you know, I was just
- 1:47:52wondering because, you know, again, whenever you post
- 1:47:56something on Facebook, you have that 80% chance that everybody's
- 1:48:00going to agree with you and you have that 40% chance you're
- 1:48:03going to be trolled for the next month and 1/2.
- 1:48:06Well, let's table that if, if, unless he can find it.
- 1:48:09But while he's doing that, I want to ask you guys about
- 1:48:12current day Ravens. So they played three top tier
- 1:48:16teams last three weeks and killed them.
- 1:48:20So that being said, do we think the Ravens are going to be in
- 1:48:24the Super Bowl for the AFC? It looks like it just because
- 1:48:27they're one of the more consistent teams this season,
- 1:48:31but the way that it's been turning out, like any, it's up
- 1:48:35for grabs for any team that's in it right now.
- 1:48:37Mark the date right now. I'm telling you right now, he's
- 1:48:43not real. No, I'm telling you right now
- 1:48:46that for the Super Bowl, it's going to be the Ravens against
- 1:48:50the Browns. No, dude, they're in the same
- 1:48:52division. They can't.
- 1:48:53That could be the AFC Championship.
- 1:48:55You said this like, damn TBI, but that would be a good AFC
- 1:49:03championship. That would.
- 1:49:04What would be great about that? Joe Flacco going back to the
- 1:49:09Yeah, that would be crazy. Crazy, crazy, crazy.
- 1:49:14And and and then the NFC. What are your you know?
- 1:49:16What are your thoughts on the NFC?
- 1:49:18They, the 49ers look like they're the most consistent.
- 1:49:21I think they just need to stay healthy and they'll be in it
- 1:49:24you. Think Purdy's got it in them?
- 1:49:26I mean, they did it with the backup that one year, so I mean
- 1:49:31can't put out anyone honestly. No, like you said, I I agree
- 1:49:34with you. Your analysis your your analysis
- 1:49:36of the it's basically up for grabs.
- 1:49:38There's no one that really comes to the 4th.
- 1:49:40I mean, yeah, there's teams that are like, man, this guy's really
- 1:49:43good. They did this, but it it anybody
- 1:49:46could take it if if they truly want you know, like you you,
- 1:49:49you, Dallas comes out and they look unbeatable and then the
- 1:49:51next and then they lose to a you know a A2 and 11 team or
- 1:49:54something. They're like what the?
- 1:49:56How's the difference This season?
- 1:49:57For me, it just seemed like every team is competitive.
- 1:50:01Like every team didn't want to have a bad record.
- 1:50:04Well, I mean, if the Broncos are any indication, they were what
- 1:50:07they were seven and seven and and still on the hunt.
- 1:50:11And then they went 7:00 and 8:00 and had last week they won.
- 1:50:15You know, which is right. If Pittsburgh had lost and oh,
- 1:50:20forget about Pittsburgh. That was our playoff host.
- 1:50:22But. Kansas City had.
- 1:50:23Kansas City had lost the last two games and we won the last.
- 1:50:26We would have won the division, yeah.
- 1:50:28It's so crazy to think about that.
- 1:50:31It's crazy to think about that, about the.
- 1:50:34Beauty of the sport, there's, yeah, any given Sunday.
- 1:50:36Because, yeah, yeah. It's just ridiculous to think
- 1:50:38that one game can make a difference.
- 1:50:40Yeah, 'cause that's ultimately that's what it was.
- 1:50:44Was one game, you know, I mean do you think they would have if
- 1:50:49they even even Russell Wilson said that he kind of overlooked
- 1:50:54the the the Detroit Lion. Was it the Detroit Lions or was
- 1:51:00it the team after that Patriots. Yeah, he said that he even
- 1:51:04overlooks the Patriots. But even if they won that game I
- 1:51:07I I still think they would have been.
- 1:51:11I don't know. Because Kansas City, I mean,
- 1:51:16hell, they won. So we would sit here questioning
- 1:51:21ifs and wins if Kansas City had lost, But since they didn't, I
- 1:51:27don't think anybody's talking about it.
- 1:51:29And see, more than the the Browns, I'm looking at like the
- 1:51:32Buffalo Bills. I think they're they're a strong
- 1:51:34contender for AFC champion you know chip game or the Super Bowl
- 1:51:39and they got. To make the.
- 1:51:41Playoffs still? Yeah.
- 1:51:42They're still in the bubble, yeah.
- 1:51:43Well, I I know there are a lot of people pissed off that
- 1:51:46Mahomes made the Pro Bowl and Josh Allen didn't, right?
- 1:51:50Yeah, I. Think it's just being the NFL
- 1:51:54Golden Boy? That's why Mahomes.
- 1:51:56And I was surprised that Denver had any Pro Bowlers.
- 1:51:59Honestly, I was really surprised because.
- 1:52:02The Denver defense deserves Pro Bowl.
- 1:52:04They deserve their praise. They do.
- 1:52:06They did some incredible things this year and and they they kept
- 1:52:10us in it this season. Yeah, without without those
- 1:52:14close, like good defensive possessions, like being able to
- 1:52:17get stops in games, there wouldn't be no, there would be
- 1:52:21no chance of like a one point victory or like getting those
- 1:52:24game-winning field goals. But I thought the only people
- 1:52:27that made the Pro Bowl for the Broncos, it was 3.
- 1:52:31Wide receivers? No, it was Patrick.
- 1:52:33Sir Tanner, our cornerback. OK, free safety Justin Simmons.
- 1:52:38OK and. That rookie wide receiver?
- 1:52:39Marvin Mintz? He made it as a return special.
- 1:52:42OK. And I know, man.
- 1:52:44Are you? Kidding me.
- 1:52:45The guy that can't hold on to the ball.
- 1:52:47What game was that? Was that New England where he
- 1:52:49fumble the ball, then he recovered it, then he fumble it
- 1:52:53again and they scored a touchdown.
- 1:52:54I'm like, Oh my God, this guy. Yeah, I mean, I'm not taking
- 1:52:57anything from his world class speed, but the guy cannot own on
- 1:52:59the ball, get a lot of ball. Maybe the vote was before that
- 1:53:02game, yeah. I.
- 1:53:08Did I did? Think trouble voting was closed
- 1:53:10when that game occurred? Probably.
- 1:53:12Oh, shit. I'm glad I didn't screw up this
- 1:53:13this week. You know, kind of thing.
- 1:53:16All right, well, it's that time. It is the final.
- 1:53:19Thoughts. Final thoughts 554-433-2211.
- 1:53:31We have ignition strapping. It's the two-minute warning, 2
- 1:53:34minute warning, what we won. Today, sponsored by
- 1:53:42operationgoodboy.com, Use code at Check Out Military Discount
- 1:53:45Radio. Now.
- 1:53:52You can. Yeah, sorry about that, folks
- 1:53:56got a little eager, but we were talking about it earlier TikTok
- 1:54:00time about the weather and about the mild winter.
- 1:54:04And if you're a sports, winter, sports enthusiast, you're up in
- 1:54:07arms right now, 'cause it's like, you know, I I like I'd
- 1:54:11plan at least three to four trips a a season to go to
- 1:54:15another town and ski for the week.
- 1:54:17And and you know, it's I've gone, I I went one, I've gone up
- 1:54:22one time. Usually by end of the year I've
- 1:54:25got at least eight, eight to 10 visits in.
- 1:54:28Well, you know why you're so upset about it, right, is
- 1:54:31because you you're a hunter. You paid for A tag, went
- 1:54:36hunting, and if I'm not mistaken, you didn't.
- 1:54:39You didn't catch anything, so you felt like you wasted time.
- 1:54:42You don't catch a deer. And I did get a buck this year,
- 1:54:47thank you very much. OK.
- 1:54:49And actually you enjoyed it at the football game anyway.
- 1:54:55I'm talking about skiing. I, I ride a ski bike and you
- 1:54:59know it's just been a dismal year.
- 1:55:00I I'm, I'm, I'm, you know, and they kept saying, Oh well you
- 1:55:04know December is going to be a great winter, snowy month, you
- 1:55:07know, oh, in the new year, still waiting, still waiting.
- 1:55:12I talked to my buddy last night losing Crested Butte and he's
- 1:55:14like, dude, I've still got bare ground.
- 1:55:17He goes because I was planning on going up in a couple weeks,
- 1:55:21spend a week in Crested Butte. He's like, you're going to come,
- 1:55:24dude, but you're going to be spending a lot of time by the
- 1:55:26fire, 'cause it's just not, there's no snow, so.
- 1:55:30How that sucks. And that's incredible.
- 1:55:31You. Yeah.
- 1:55:32Usually they get. Yeah, usually they get hit
- 1:55:35harder than all the Well, here's the here's the test.
- 1:55:39Have you went up to copper yet? No, I haven't.
- 1:55:42I can tell you I've had one. I've had one trip.
- 1:55:45I went to Keystone and it was, to be honest with you that day,
- 1:55:48It was probably 2 weeks ago in December.
- 1:55:52I was pleasantly surprised. It was.
- 1:55:54There was some icy spots, but no bare ground, no rocks and very
- 1:55:58little open though. I mean there was only a few runs
- 1:56:00open, but, but I mean, it was a good day.
- 1:56:02I had a good day. I was.
- 1:56:03I was pleasantly surprised. Do me a favor.
- 1:56:06Google. Google the, the, the hill bases
- 1:56:12for first. Oh, you got it right there.
- 1:56:15I was just gonna say, 'cause I guarantee you, if we look it up,
- 1:56:20that copper's going to be the most, I don't know why.
- 1:56:24I think my view is because copper is the highest mountain
- 1:56:29out of all the other ski resorts other than Aspen.
- 1:56:33I think Aspen's higher. So Crested Butte got one inch
- 1:56:36last night. Beaver Creek got 3.
- 1:56:39Right. But what's their base?
- 1:56:40That's the thing that we're worried.
- 1:56:41About 3 inches. Queso got two.
- 1:56:44It's so picky. This guy knows our base.
- 1:56:48All right, hold on. I got to bring up a different.
- 1:56:50Well, you know, because. Info on the Ray Lewis.
- 1:56:54Oh, good, good, good. And we'll cover that in just a
- 1:56:56SEC. So, so Winter Park has, which
- 1:56:59makes no sense, a 35 to 32 inch base.
- 1:57:02It's 5 inches New snow Breck. It's got 27 inch base, 3 inches
- 1:57:08copper, 28 to 29 inch base, three new 3-3 inches of new
- 1:57:13snow. Yeah, Vale's got 37 inch base
- 1:57:17two inches, Beavercreek 35, three inches, Crested Butte 31
- 1:57:22one inch and Keystone 26 and two inches.
- 1:57:26Now you would not believe, but there's a lot of people that
- 1:57:29would listen to the show just to hear the bases.
- 1:57:33Yeah. So we need to start including
- 1:57:34that more often. Yeah, probably.
- 1:57:36You know, I was just thinking about that like, yeah, because
- 1:57:39you know, when I used to, before I skied competitively, I used to
- 1:57:44look at which mountain I had. I had Copper and Winter Park and
- 1:57:48then I had the the five veil. Back then.
- 1:57:53It was like a a traumatic brain injury program.
- 1:57:57And you got all those for for nothing.
- 1:58:00I don't know if they still do that.
- 1:58:04I got mine through Brain Injuries Association of
- 1:58:07Colorado. So if you have a traumatic brain
- 1:58:10injury in your military or you or you're a civilian, it's a
- 1:58:15really good nonprofit organization that will help you
- 1:58:19advocate different avenues, you know?
- 1:58:23Well, you just finished your hyperbaric chamber treatment
- 1:58:26now, is there option for you to continue that or is it out of
- 1:58:29pocket? From what I understand, they
- 1:58:34basically Tricare and then told me don't worry about it.
- 1:58:37Oh OK, so I have no idea. I I got to be honest, I have no
- 1:58:40idea. Keep us posted.
- 1:58:41I know that I'm supposed to wait for like two or three months and
- 1:58:45then they want me to go to another 20 to 30 sessions and
- 1:58:52then. Right, right.
- 1:58:53So it's community care. Yeah.
- 1:58:55So real quick, Caveman, what'd you find?
- 1:58:58Yes. So initially he was charged with
- 1:59:02the murder of two people, but was eventually a witness in the
- 1:59:08case along with two of his companions.
- 1:59:13OK. So I actually don't know who was
- 1:59:16actually charged with the murder, but he was a witness in
- 1:59:19the case. It's like the Tupac case.
- 1:59:21So they kind of jumped the gun and and and pinned it on him or
- 1:59:25or named him in the indictment and then they realized further
- 1:59:28investigation revealed that oh, and he was he was there, but he
- 1:59:31didn't. Doesn't that make him an
- 1:59:33accomplice? It could.
- 1:59:35I mean, it could. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:59:39Sign some autographs. The.
- 1:59:43Judges. Use them in Darth.
- 1:59:44Hard raising span. Yeah.
- 1:59:49All right. Before we go, anything that you
- 1:59:51guys learned today, I. Guess Didn't really learn it,
- 1:59:55but it's just like a reminder of how people treated the people
- 1:59:59coming back from Vietnam. Oh my God, very different time.
- 2:00:02Very different cause like when they you know they they say that
- 2:00:05the World War Two was the greatest heroes in the history
- 2:00:08of our nation and they rolled out the red carpet for those
- 2:00:12guys which deservedly so they did.
- 2:00:14They deserved it just like our Vietnam vets.
- 2:00:16But they didn't get that and that's why a lot of Vietnam vets
