- 0:15from the track to the. Rodeo.
- 0:16We talk, that talk splits on the watch, but we still take the
- 0:19Mick Dean in power for the long. Run, legs, go and bring the
- 0:21fire. When the session gets thick,
- 0:23Ryan in the mix with the numbers.
- 0:24And plans from everything. The medals, Yeah, we break it
- 0:26all. Down hard graft Monday, left
- 0:28about a Sunday still. Right, we're going to start
- 0:33differently this week because I'm I'm getting too old and too
- 0:36predictable because earlier on Becky was mocking me saying
- 0:40hello and welcome back to the easy double podcast.
- 0:42So I've had to go for something different.
- 0:45We are the easy double podcast and we are episode 60.
- 0:49What hasn't changed is Matsu Co host to Obama side the Menzies
- 0:53been the first one. How are you doing?
- 0:55Good matey, caught me off guard with that, but now I'm going
- 1:00well. Need some new material?
- 1:03Liked it? Attention grab.
- 1:05And over there in Ireland and Smith, how are you?
- 1:09I'm. Good God, caught me off guard as
- 1:12well as like what's happening here.
- 1:15Yeah, it's it's race week, boys. I think maybe I've changed my
- 1:19identity from a podcaster back to a runner now.
- 1:22So things are changing. It's good to hear.
- 1:26Oh well, yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about it.
- 1:28What about just both hats? Yeah, I won't.
- 1:32I won't give it away just yet. I'll keep.
- 1:34Need to keep an ace up my sleeve, don't I?
- 1:38Speaking of of racing, you know it was on this day one year ago
- 1:44we were doing the Bumbry 3 and 5 waters respectively run.
- 1:49Yeah, good but bad memories at the same time.
- 1:52What were your memories of it? Personally, I really enjoyed it.
- 1:59Yeah, but he does. Yeah, you know that I'll soon,
- 2:03as you mention it, you know that there's a an issue with the lead
- 2:07bike in the 10K this year that actually took people off course
- 2:11rather than the runner as in me taking himself off course.
- 2:15Shit, really. But they've, they must have been
- 2:19listening to the chatter going on in the past couple of weeks
- 2:21because they seem to have honored, they've paid like
- 2:25multiple places, you know, like as in what happened with the US
- 2:28self Marathon and stuff. I did well.
- 2:30They gave out to Sonny's vouchers or whatever you get for
- 2:35winning the tank. Well, if if they were in the
- 2:38half marathon, they would have got some $1000.
- 2:41Yeah. I mean, they would have been in
- 2:42a bit of a stickiest, but I think that that event, yeah, I
- 2:45don't know if they they paid too much.
- 2:47So financially they probably didn't hurt them too much.
- 2:49They probably put their best bike Pacers in the other events.
- 2:55Yeah, it was good weekend, though.
- 2:56Was it you? We flew down on the race on
- 2:59Sunday morning, you put the kids to bed and then we bombed it
- 3:02down at like 7:00 PM or something.
- 3:04Yeah, yeah, that's right. I do recommend it.
- 3:08Certified courses, which, you know, hard to come by sometimes
- 3:14along the coastal town of Bunbury.
- 3:15I would if I was fit and well. I would have made it a priority
- 3:19for this year for sure. You see, actually you remind me,
- 3:23I'm Simon from WA Running podcast.
- 3:25He was down there in and he's bought some of the merch from
- 3:29official marathon time integrity unit.
- 3:31They've released T-shirts and it's got a slogan like every
- 3:35second counts, be proud of it or something.
- 3:37And he he was wrapping that down there.
- 3:40I did say there was some Instagram reel of a person
- 3:43winning a race over the weekend and I saw the first comment with
- 3:48is it OMITU just saying with the tick in there just instead just
- 3:52legitimizing the person's Instagram post about their race.
- 3:57It's it's actually such good marketing from them, isn't it
- 4:00because they did they do it on some of the pro results as well
- 4:03that and because we follow them, it like highlights people you
- 4:07follow who've commented. So you just see them all over
- 4:10the pro results with verified very.
- 4:12Clever, but I. Can't imagine how many like DMS
- 4:15they get about people. I'd say they are inundated with
- 4:18like just message requests. I'd hate to see because like
- 4:24when did it start? Maybe just before Christmas or
- 4:27something around Christmas time. You've got. 40K followers
- 4:33already. It's enough.
- 4:39Well, yeah, thanks. Thanks for being with us for
- 4:41another week. It's episode 60, We've got
- 4:42plenty to talk about. It's been the national
- 4:46championships over here in Australia, so plenty of racing
- 4:49going on trackside in Sydney. We've also had two marathons in
- 4:54Paris and Rotterdam and a few domestic races over in Ireland
- 4:58which Owen will cover too, where we've got some news.
- 5:02World Marathon Championships are announced, stress fracture, a
- 5:09DNS and we'll have some YouTube Diaries and Owen has briefed us
- 5:15on Double Trouble. So we're good to go there,
- 5:20right? We'll get straight into the
- 5:21running results then. So as you may know by now,
- 5:25running results proudly brought to you by Bix Nutrition,
- 5:27developed for athletes, by athletes.
- 5:30Visit bixvitamins.com for all your training and race day needs
- 5:34and use the code DOUBLE for 20% off and that may come in handy
- 5:42given it's very much marathon season.
- 5:44Ballarat talking about bad memories, Dean Ballarat is
- 5:47coming up in a couple of weeks as well.
- 5:51What's that not good memories for you it?
- 5:55Was the start of the end for me. I enjoyed it as well, like I did
- 6:00Bunbury, so yeah. Oh.
- 6:04Shit, hopefully I'm not sat in this time next week's talking
- 6:07about bad memories from the bridges.
- 6:11How many bridges you have to go over?
- 6:13Just once. You count all the bridges you're
- 6:14around, you can't go wrong. I'd say 44.
- 6:21Well, the Causeway is being replaced by that new bridge that
- 6:25goes, you know, you sort of go over 2 bits of it.
- 6:28It's one long bridge, you go up two peaks of it, then the
- 6:31narrows, and then don't forget the little one through the key
- 6:34at the end. But really it's 2.
- 6:38So. Dean, did you win that last
- 6:40year? Yeah, yeah.
- 6:42So we could could be an easy double suit and the next year
- 6:45I'll come and try and win it. We could be the triple, triple
- 6:47Giffle. Yeah.
- 6:50There'll be we won't be bringing the crown back to easy double
- 6:53this year. Don't worry about that.
- 6:57No fresh anyway. Well, let's talk about some
- 6:59proper running first. The national championships
- 7:03happened and whilst I was watching this, the what I was
- 7:10thinking is how like deep and talented Australia's athletic
- 7:14scene is at the minute. So it couldn't help but compare
- 7:17to like the feeling of excitement or lack of if it was
- 7:21a British champs. And it's just way and above,
- 7:24like it's fully an unbelievable weekend.
- 7:27Like, lots of people flying in for it from the US, everyone who
- 7:31bases in Australia, like they make it a priority.
- 7:34So it's just a really good weekend.
- 7:36And the fact that streamed for free, you can follow it all.
- 7:39You can watch the replays if you don't catch it live.
- 7:42The commentary is amazing. Yeah, the pessimist in me was
- 7:48thinking about such a shame that, like, the British champs
- 7:52doesn't come anywhere near this. But we just have to celebrate
- 7:55the Australian ones. I was thinking the same thing
- 7:59like because do you remember last year it was in Perth and we
- 8:02were, we weren't sure if we were being a bit biased behind about
- 8:06how excited we were for it just because it was local and gout
- 8:10gout was racing and you know, we we knew all the local people to
- 8:16get around. And yeah, I wasn't sure if it
- 8:20was just out that, that buzz. But I think you're right.
- 8:22I think those same fields were just as deep, if not deeper this
- 8:28year. They seemed like there was more
- 8:31young like the, the depth we'll probably get into it was it
- 8:35seemed like the best, I don't know, some of the best races I
- 8:38remember domestically and a good reflection of I think the policy
- 8:43work in the way it's meant to be, which is encouraging people
- 8:47to try and win a national title so that they get then they just
- 8:52need to run the time in order to get auto selected for what COM
- 8:55games that they're running for this year.
- 8:58Yeah. And then it wasn't until even
- 9:00this morning, I don't know why it came to me, but I was
- 9:03thinking, shit, I like spent the whole weekend looking at every
- 9:07start list and being like, God, three or four or five different
- 9:10people could win this race. And then this morning I thought,
- 9:14and there was no Brett Robinson, Jack Rayner, Stewie Mcswain, and
- 9:19they're like talk about the past 10 or 15 years.
- 9:22Three of the biggest stars Australian ruins had.
- 9:26No, Sam Clifford and Isaac Kane, Tim Vincent, there's so many
- 9:33gone to the roads as well. No.
- 9:35Easy. No.
- 9:35Jeff Stenson. Yeah, like I have the same
- 9:40thought. So Once Upon a time you would
- 9:42see like a a paced race that the Melbourne Track club were trying
- 9:46to set up someone to win a title and replace the time.
- 9:50And it was 1 main club that was fairly dominant.
- 9:53Whereas you're watching a women's 5K and I think 5 of the
- 9:57top six, there was that six like breakaway group for a period of
- 10:02time and that was they were represented by 5 different
- 10:06sponsors. You know you had like on Puma
- 10:10Jess Al Nike. What are that you had new?
- 10:15Balance and ASICS and. The ASICS New Balance, I think
- 10:18you had like a like a spread of representation, which I just
- 10:23think what a, what a good time to be a, to be an athlete.
- 10:27And then behind them, you had a heap of like NCAA people that
- 10:31are probably on a pathway to doing similar sort of school.
- 10:36Yes. So we'll talk about what ones we
- 10:38did manage to see and what we thought of them starting firstly
- 10:41with I think the first final that came around was the 1500
- 10:44meters and they had the heat on the Thursday into the final
- 10:49finals on Friday. So the women's race, shit, this
- 10:53one was the main storyline of the weekend almost for both the
- 10:56right and the wrong reasons. Claudia Hollingsworth won the
- 11:01title in the end in 4 minutes seventeen O 6.
- 11:04Sarah Billings was second in four 1736 and I'll be Caldwell
- 11:08third in four 1740. Now, that doesn't begin to tell
- 11:14even half the story as to what went on with this race, the
- 11:19aftermath of it and even the next 24 hours of it.
- 11:23So one thing you may notice is that Jess Hall wasn't on the
- 11:27podium of a 1500 meter race, which is would rightly shock
- 11:33you. And if you didn't already know,
- 11:36she fell about 50 meters out. There was potentially some
- 11:40constant shoot. Jess Hall was leading.
- 11:43She's kind of made the big move. It was slow as anything causing
- 11:46it. I was trying to time the first.
- 11:49Did they go through the 1st K in like 312 or something?
- 11:52Like it was literally pedestrian because sometimes these races
- 11:56are slow for one lap and then it gets going.
- 12:00So usually you'd take a 400 meter split and be like, oh, 80
- 12:03seconds, 1st 400. Look how slow that is.
- 12:06Whereas with this one, you're able to drag it out all the way
- 12:09up to the kilometer. That's how long it was slow for.
- 12:12And then, yeah, Jess was like, right, OK, and make him a long
- 12:16run for home. And she was in lane one.
- 12:21And then Claudia tried to pass. There's potentially a collision,
- 12:25just fell. And then there was only 30 or so
- 12:28meters left. So the girls just finished off
- 12:30what they could. But I guess the main question
- 12:33is, was the contact, should it have been a DQ?
- 12:38What do you think? How how did you think when
- 12:41you've seen it live? What did you think afterwards
- 12:45and how did the DQ, then the reversal of the DQ land with
- 12:49you? How did your opinion change?
- 12:52Umm ah, so initially when my coach was at it, so he sent me a
- 12:57video as soon as it happened and initially I didn't think there
- 13:01was much in it. But when you see that head on
- 13:05sort of angle where Claudia, we're just sort of covers lane
- 13:11one, basically normally the person who's in the lead sort of
- 13:14moves over into lane 2 to cover anyone coming on the right side.
- 13:17And that's why there is that gap on the rail.
- 13:19But Jess, she's been there before.
- 13:21Let's put that like, so she was covering both and Claudia like
- 13:26it was opening until Jess sort of felt her coming.
- 13:29So Jess then sort of closed off the rail and Claudia was like,
- 13:33oh shit. And then she tried to jump over
- 13:36to go the outside and yeah, she just clicked Jess.
- 13:40It's super unfortunate, but like I I think Claudia was she
- 13:46tripped Jess like she should have been DQ D.
- 13:48You've seen softer take like Cole Hawker got done for pushing
- 13:52someone like she tripped her. So yeah, I think Jess was hard
- 13:59done by and even Sarah Billings like but like I can only imagine
- 14:04like outside that tech room, like 4 different teams there.
- 14:08Claudia is on, Sarah is MTC and Jess is her own, her father.
- 14:13And then Avi is a different team as well.
- 14:16So I can just imagine like the three of them, like big teams,
- 14:20like just protesting outside the tech room.
- 14:22I say it would have been carnage such it's such a situation.
- 14:25And but yeah, I didn't like the way she got DQ D and then she
- 14:28got reinstated and like, it's just a super unfortunate event.
- 14:37How'd you say it then? I was, no, I'm not trying to sit
- 14:46on the fence like I often do with things, but I was trying to
- 14:52read rules or the rules around obstruction.
- 14:55Like what are the? So my my default thoughts are
- 15:01there's there will be rules that set out the behaviour that's
- 15:06accepted on the track. I'm not super familiar with the
- 15:11rules and how referees apply them, but I expect that's
- 15:15obviously what's happened is that the referees have had to
- 15:18apply whatever the relevant rule is.
- 15:20But I think as Owen mentioned, there's recent interpretations
- 15:25of some of these rules where the person coming from behind, it
- 15:30seems that they have a like a duty of care when overtaking to
- 15:35not disadvantage the person in front.
- 15:39And it just seems to make sense to me that that would be the
- 15:41case. Like if, if you've worked hard
- 15:45to get the position in front and someone's coming around you,
- 15:47it's you would think it would be on them to have to not interfere
- 15:52with you, provided whatever you're doing is not also not
- 15:58allowed. Like I'm assuming at some point
- 16:00you can't intentionally be jumping left and right to
- 16:04obstruct someone as well. So, so yeah, so my initial, my
- 16:10initial reaction is if you've accidentally tripped someone by
- 16:14by moving in or moving into or outside that you're that you're
- 16:18running a risk of getting DQ D. Yeah, to be honest, when I felt
- 16:24when I seen it live, I I was like, oh, that's naughty.
- 16:28Because I thought that there was room for Claudia to go up the
- 16:32inside there and Jess said like shut her off, which and then I
- 16:38thought the impact was cloudy just like running into the back
- 16:42of Jess because Jess had like inadvertently come across her.
- 16:46But when you see it slowed down, she did actually like
- 16:49successfully shut the door on her.
- 16:51And then Claudia's tried to like step around the back of her,
- 16:54hasn't she? Which is where she's clipped
- 16:56their heels. And I just, I don't know how you
- 16:59can kind of ignore the fact that she's literally tripped or the
- 17:03thing what makes me feel like it's harsh is that I do think
- 17:08Claudia probably was going to win the race anyway because she
- 17:11was traveling a lot better, but Jess had the strong position, so
- 17:16she can't. Just like Jess should, Jess
- 17:19should be rewarded for her positioning in the race.
- 17:22Like she put herself there, like Claudia fell asleep for a bit
- 17:27and she got caught back. She got sleeping.
- 17:30And like that's her own fault. Like you can't like clip someone
- 17:35or like Claudia. Arguably if that rail was free,
- 17:38Claudia would have won 100%. But Jess, it's racing, like you
- 17:42can't like clip someone and it was accidental as well, but like
- 17:47you can't do that. And I don't like there's like
- 17:50auto queues here, auto qualifiers for the com games at
- 17:56stake, definitely bonuses in contracts.
- 17:59So it is a big, it is a big deal.
- 18:01And but I think, yeah, it's very like, Jess, this is the big
- 18:05loser here because she doesn't get anything like she's fallen,
- 18:09like she doesn't get first, second or third.
- 18:13Is she she obviously the big loser when it comes to the race
- 18:17itself, but does it maybe is it more advantageous that Claudia
- 18:23gets the win as far as not that I think she would struggle
- 18:27anyway, but a lot of these the some of the motivation for
- 18:34people running these races is Commonwealth game selection.
- 18:38And so I think part of the like if Jess and Claudia were both
- 18:45disqualified or didn't weren't weren't awarded, neither were
- 18:48awarded the win, then they and then the winner, which like was
- 18:54it Sarah Billings would would then only need to run the
- 18:58Commonwealth game standard to be guaranteed a spot on the
- 19:01Australian team. And then you've got other, you
- 19:04know, other people like it creates a lot more selection
- 19:07pressure versus Claudia, who seems to be in very good form,
- 19:12having just beaten Georgia Hunter Bell two weeks ago.
- 19:18So maybe that's that's an upshot of it.
- 19:21I wonder what the process of what has went on there, like,
- 19:24you know, behind the scenes from when she was because they didn't
- 19:26dehue her immediately, did they? It was within what, maybe an
- 19:30hour or a couple of hours or something, and then the reversal
- 19:33wasn't until the next day when they reinstated there.
- 19:36So like those conversations? And I've never seen a
- 19:40reinstatement that happens the next day.
- 19:44I've never heard of a. Have you like?
- 19:51I wouldn't have liked to be on the receiving end of the
- 19:53suggestion that this one would be reinstated if head coach had
- 19:57anything to do with it. But yeah, it's tough.
- 20:02And like the real loser, probably Sarah Billings, like
- 20:04because she goes to bed that night thinking because the the
- 20:08window for qualifying is open until the end of May.
- 20:11So she's going to bed thinking, wow, I've just won nationals.
- 20:15I've just got to go and find the time.
- 20:16Like she's probably thinking where the race is coming up,
- 20:19where can I get to? And then she wakes up the next
- 20:22day and finds out that no, that's not the case, she's done
- 20:26nothing wrong after all, and she just got shafted mentally,
- 20:29probably. Like she would have been awarded
- 20:32the gold medal on the podium after the race, wouldn't she?
- 20:36Like would had a ceremony at the race?
- 20:39And now realistically, like Claudia is going, Claudia is
- 20:43going to get standard and realistically you're going to
- 20:44pick Jess all as well. Sarah Billings loses out there
- 20:47again unless she makes him date 100.
- 20:51I thought was the other thing as well.
- 20:52Like I know you're going to be obviously going to be shocked or
- 20:55upset if you are cloudy like in that exact moment.
- 21:00But did you see her face? I think her face almost like
- 21:04says it all because you can see how like mortified she is.
- 21:09And I think it almost gives it away like a guilty face.
- 21:12Like she knows what's going to come on the back of that in the
- 21:16moment. But I know maybe looking too
- 21:18much into there. It did make me think about, you
- 21:22know, with these selection races because we're so the
- 21:25Commonwealth Games isn't due to take part for what, another five
- 21:28months? And these are having serious
- 21:32implications for who gets selected versus like, you know,
- 21:38we always talk about like that American system that's so good.
- 21:41But like, imagine if you're top, if you're a Team Australia going
- 21:45to the comp games and you see that happen and it's top three
- 21:47across the line. How many go take on games?
- 21:51Two or three per event? Up to three.
- 21:55Oh, OK, so Sarah Billings could go.
- 21:58Yeah. So then I'll be guest shafted.
- 22:04There's always a loser and it's probably fair to say we always
- 22:08say we're a democracy. There was a story where you
- 22:11could vote on the Instagram whether you thought it was a DQ
- 22:15or not and the the bit of noise which adds context to it was
- 22:20that we put this up after the reinstatement had happened.
- 22:24So 61% of the voters thought that the reinstatement was the
- 22:28correct decision. And 1st that means 39% still
- 22:31thought DQ was the right outcome.
- 22:34Which is mad because I think when whilst she was DQ D, the
- 22:41vast majority of opinions I saw seem to think that that was the
- 22:45right outcome. There wasn't really anyone at
- 22:49the time being like oh like Claudia's been shafted or
- 22:54anything. It was more so like, not
- 22:58necessarily justice has been served, but that they've fair
- 23:00play to them, they've reached the right outcome.
- 23:03But anyway, we can't change it now.
- 23:05What's done is done. What What do we make of the new
- 23:09New Balance kit? The sort of purple and like
- 23:12luminous yellow. I like it.
- 23:15Don't look good. I can't even think of it now,
- 23:18top of my head. On to moving on to the men's
- 23:211500 meters then. So again heats with Thursday
- 23:25final Friday. No one really missed out from
- 23:29the semis progressing into the final, no one you would expect
- 23:33not to be there. The one thing to note was that
- 23:36Tom Moorcroft, our former training partner front runner
- 23:39made the final runner 339 PB in the semi, so huge from him and I
- 23:45think there's a couple of other WA representatives in there as
- 23:48well. Max Shervington and is Luke
- 23:50Shaw, technically. Wai think we'd climb him.
- 23:54He spent most of his time here. He's just moved over recently.
- 24:00So yeah, nice to see if you WA is down the list.
- 24:02Sometimes there won't be one, it'll be Victoria, NSW, but
- 24:08they're in there this time. So the men's 1500 meter final
- 24:12went as follows. Kam Myers took the win in the
- 24:15329.85 championship record from Ollie Hall, 332.66 in 2nd and
- 24:21Adam Spencer 334.23 for 3rd. How did you see this one play
- 24:29out? Kam Meyer has He's just so good
- 24:33at running his, and he was. He is just on another level like
- 24:39from the gun today, could just take today.
- 24:41I don't know what way he loses like in this like championship,
- 24:46like the Australian, like 1500. He's just so fast.
- 24:50Like he finishes in like a 53 like while running like 56 is
- 24:5357. It's just crazy.
- 24:56And then coming to the 5K later, like he is just unbeatable.
- 25:00Like anyway, he runs that race and he's just so smart with the
- 25:04way he goes about it. Like, yeah, he's, he's very
- 25:09good. To have the confidence as well.
- 25:12Like, it's not as if, I mean, fair enough.
- 25:15He probably knows he's better than almost everyone on that
- 25:19start line. But when it's Olly Hall and he's
- 25:22still like, I'm just gonna go from the gun, I'm confident I
- 25:26can burn you off. And even like, oh, So what?
- 25:30He got rid of the rest of the field after how long, Dragon?
- 25:34And it was just him and Olly. Wasn't that long.
- 25:37Maybe 600 to go or something. Yeah, Yeah.
- 25:41But then as soon as it was him and Ollie, he managed to put a
- 25:45gap in there, didn't he? It wasn't as if Ollie kind of
- 25:48clung to him for a while. And then, yeah, the writing was
- 25:51on the wall. He's just supreme.
- 25:54And it doesn't look like he's ever sprinting.
- 25:56It's it's bizarre. Such like a powerful, strong
- 26:00stride. Yeah, he's so relaxed when he's
- 26:04when he's just cruising, he and he doesn't look like he picks up
- 26:07the pace. He's just so smooth and fluid is
- 26:10running. He's just so good to watch.
- 26:12And he is like 1920 years old. He's still so, so young.
- 26:18Like that's a 329 solo, but I think is that track new in
- 26:24Sydney? Is it newly made?
- 26:26Because why not? It's fast.
- 26:30It looks newly laid doesn't it? Like the the colours of it?
- 26:34Yeah, it looks fresh. The was it the let's let's run
- 26:40guys that were commenting on the splits?
- 26:42I think that he ran. Perhaps it was something along
- 26:45the lines of 5657. I know it's like 300 meters of
- 26:50first lap, but effectively 56575554.
- 26:56It's a light to your .0 and like no pacing lights, no pacer.
- 27:01And he's doing that all to feel but like you go out slightly
- 27:05assertive, but use, you know, a lot of the world records, what
- 27:08is it 1500 meters onwards are run with the slight negative
- 27:12split. So it's like slightly negative
- 27:14split it, but just enough where you go out, settle, wind it up,
- 27:18wind it up. And I just thought, let's see
- 27:23what you guys think. But let's say Jess Hull, because
- 27:27I think maybe part of the criticism I heard was couldn't
- 27:31Jess Hull have just taken it out similarly to what Cam did and
- 27:35just in, you know, run her her way to victory?
- 27:38But at the time, at the start of the championship, she was
- 27:43looking to do 3 races, which, you know, which included some
- 27:47heats as well as finals and had Claudia Hollingsworth to deal
- 27:53with who just beat Georgia Hunter Bell, who's just looking
- 27:56exceptionally quick. There's been national
- 27:59championships in the past. I remember, do you remember when
- 28:02Jai Edwards sat on the back of Stewie Mcswain?
- 28:05It was during COVID and Stewie just ran, went off the front in
- 28:08the 1500 meters ahead of the Olympics and basically paced Jai
- 28:11to a national title and Olymp and the Olympic qualifying
- 28:16standard. And so if you're not just fit
- 28:20enough, like let's say for example, he's in 330, Cam's only
- 28:24in 332, not 329 shape, and Ollie Hall gets that perfect sit,
- 28:29could he maybe just kick off, kick off his shoulder and run
- 28:32331? And then you look like you, you
- 28:37don't look so clever. So you've got to, I think you're
- 28:39compromised. And it's the same with Jacob in
- 28:41a lot of those Olympic finals and World Championship finals.
- 28:45If those guys are almost as fit as you, then you're just setting
- 28:49them up. I think you're definitely saving
- 28:51something sitting in. And so you've got to be so
- 28:54confident that you're better than the others in order to run
- 28:57like that, which I think he is and was obviously.
- 29:03I feel like now as well, they all know it and believe it that
- 29:07like he's the main man and there's almost not much they can
- 29:10do about it. Yeah, I thought it was a really
- 29:14awesome run by Ollie. Like ballsy to go with the pace,
- 29:18hung tough and like he looked like he was hurting going into
- 29:21the bell and what did he finish? Three seconds behind him?
- 29:25So he's probably closed in a 57, which is still a really good
- 29:29close. Like still a very good run I
- 29:32think. It'll be interesting now, Cam
- 29:37Myers, when he goes to America to race that Prefontaine
- 29:40Classic, like when he's up against Cole Hawker and all them
- 29:44big boys, it'll be anxious and see if his like tactics shift or
- 29:49if his like the way he thinks about the race shift.
- 29:51Because he obviously won't be able to go and take that one.
- 29:53It'll be more of a set and just ride it right along as fast as
- 29:57you can. But yeah, he's in phenomenal
- 30:00shape. The good thing is with those
- 30:03Diamond League races, they normally set up to be fast,
- 30:05aren't they? So suit him given his shape.
- 30:12Something to be said as well for like whatever time period is the
- 30:17past 6 to 12 months. Like whenever he turns off, he
- 30:20races. Well, he has.
- 30:21He's not really having bad races at all in recent history, is he?
- 30:25Like, can't underestimate that either.
- 30:28Just the world champ in in Japan, Tokyo, he was shit and
- 30:36like just yet like a standard that was just so much higher.
- 30:39So I'll be interested to see calm games.
- 30:41Even a key could finish this year on such a high, like it
- 30:46could be such a breakthrough year for him even though like he
- 30:48is already unbelievable. Yeah, you're right with the the
- 30:53world champs things. Then what was it?
- 30:54Was it Melrose, the big one? He won like and that was almost
- 30:58an amount unexpected, but that was like the major like to the
- 31:01world. I'm Cam Myers.
- 31:04So then it will be easy after that to naturally like dip a
- 31:07little bit and like go back into training or whatever and he's
- 31:10just like he's racing, he's racing, he's racing, he's worn
- 31:13and he's run fast. No stopping him right now.
- 31:18I just love to see him put up to like Josh Kerr and Carl Hawker
- 31:22because like the Americans like think they're unbeatable.
- 31:26I just love to see cameras, young 20 year old, just go up
- 31:29and like show it to them so. Good.
- 31:32Yeah, that's the only thing, isn't it?
- 31:34I hope we're not just like in a bit of an Australian bubble with
- 31:37him here and then he races against them and you see him
- 31:40like 5th or 6th or something. But yeah, I'm confident he's in
- 31:45a better place this time around. 800 meters.
- 31:49So this was due to be Jess's second event she was competing
- 31:54in. But after the chaos that
- 31:55happened on Friday night, I think she announced that she was
- 31:59withdrawing from the 800 and focusing on the 5000 meters.
- 32:04So the women's side of things, Abby Caldwell won this 15857
- 32:08from Claudia 2nd 15891 and Sarah Billings 3rd 15923.
- 32:17I do not you see this race, to be honest with you.
- 32:20That's fast. Treat them under 2 minutes.
- 32:25Yeah, Claudia did a lot of the lading, which she often doesn't
- 32:28do. And then, yeah, Abby just closed
- 32:32over the top, which was a bit of a boil over as far as I was
- 32:36concerned. I thought Claudia was in such
- 32:38exceptional shape, but perhaps you compromise a little bit when
- 32:42you're focusing a bit on the 1500.
- 32:47She's a little bit understated. I'll be Caldwell, isn't she,
- 32:50considering she's able to like turn up here, win it in 158?
- 32:54Like don't know, you almost view her as like the girl who she
- 32:59competes well domestically. But perhaps my naivety wouldn't
- 33:04have put her in the same bracket as Claudia right now, and
- 33:07especially to run 158 in doing so.
- 33:09I think she's won a COM Games medal in the 100.
- 33:16Fair enough. Oh no, 1500, here you go.
- 33:22But yeah, she's had a great domestic season because I think
- 33:24she's raced all of those track classics, hasn't she?
- 33:26She's been the one there again. Sarah Billings gets on the
- 33:31podium, but unfortunately on the wrong end of it.
- 33:36Yeah, so Jess and Abby have the time for this one for the come
- 33:41games. So yeah, Claudia.
- 33:46Yeah. And then if it's a team of
- 33:47three, you're going to bring Claudia over Sarah,
- 33:49realistically. But well, like we were saying,
- 33:53if with the 1500 meters, if Claudia gets a nod there and
- 33:58Sarah was shafted, do they give Sarah something back here?
- 34:03There's so much politics involved in this stuff, it's
- 34:06terrible. And it's mad that all these
- 34:09decisions are like just made in a boardroom, isn't it?
- 34:12Like basically. Yeah.
- 34:16And it'd be even weirder if it was made on a podcast, like some
- 34:19suggestion. But the trials is just so much
- 34:24like why did not just make this the trials?
- 34:27Like I feel like it's so like it's too far out.
- 34:29I get it. But like, it'd be so much
- 34:32fairer. And it'd be so much more.
- 34:35It was very entertaining anyway. But wouldn't it be, wouldn't be
- 34:39great. I feel like athletics is getting
- 34:42deep enough now where you could do that, you'd hope.
- 34:45Especially in Australia, yeah, it's like, it's so deep.
- 34:50And what about is it a financial thing?
- 34:52But like just pick full teams, shorten the maybe if you shorten
- 34:55the program, I don't know, do a. Surety there's money to be made
- 35:02there if you're like all right in two months time we're gonna
- 35:04see it doesn't work because everyone's going to be in Europe
- 35:06as well Yeah for the European like if you you shouldn't don't
- 35:11like pick a different area or like have a separate event.
- 35:13This is the trials someone either one the states bid for
- 35:17it. You admit there's money that'd
- 35:20be made, I say. Yeah, yeah, you'd fill it out,
- 35:23wouldn't you? Yeah.
- 35:26I'm trying to find the particular rule and I'm
- 35:28probably, this probably isn't quite right, but I have found
- 35:31like a report form that you submit to Australia, like as
- 35:36part of this national championship and that the
- 35:40language, yeah, I think it's like it's got TR 1712.
- 35:44If an athlete is found to have jostled or obstruction
- 35:47obstructed another competitor to impede their progress, they may
- 35:50be disqualified. That's all I can find.
- 35:54It sounds very vague. World Athletics had a similar,
- 35:59well, a more detailed clause. Yeah, 1722.
- 36:05So different. A different clause in their
- 36:07rules. Well, or a more lengthy, lengthy
- 36:12obstruction clause, but then this one.
- 36:16But the problem is, if these clauses aren't well written,
- 36:19then they're difficult to apply, and then if they're.
- 36:22Manipulate them. Exactly like attack bad badly
- 36:25written tax rule. Oh, and you'll be familiar.
- 36:29It's like VAR and you know, ref watch on a Monday on Sky Sports
- 36:34where the MC Gallagher's stood there defending all the referees
- 36:37decisions from the weekend. But it's true though, the
- 36:41referee can only apply the rules that have that have been written
- 36:45for them. The men's 800 meters people took
- 36:49the win 145.6 from Luke boys 14573 and Bob.
- 36:55I keep getting confused with his surname.
- 36:58When you hear someone say it, it's so easy.
- 37:00And then when you look at it on paper, sounds Rahim.
- 37:03Abdi Rahman is is how it sounds to me, but like, not how it's
- 37:07written, but how I hear. I go Abdel Rahman, so Abdul
- 37:12Rahman. Yeah, that's it.
- 37:14Rolls off your tongue, doesn't roll off mine.
- 37:17It was. All the the tongue twisters that
- 37:22are Irish, that's probably child's play.
- 37:26And each of those podium finishes, both, well, all of
- 37:30people are Luke Boys and Bob, they all have the time.
- 37:34So you would imagine, all things being equal, they will be the
- 37:37three that are selected. But as we know, discretion is
- 37:41still in play. So watch this space.
- 37:44Well, and the the guy that was winning for a chunk of that race
- 37:47wasn't that Dan Williams not part of those 3, so it's
- 37:51probably part of the BIG4. Was it Is he, is he a New
- 37:57Zealander, though he might be a New Zealander, you know.
- 38:01Nice. The man child, isn't he?
- 38:05Have I got that wrong? I was.
- 38:08Not too sure was. Oh, no, Australia, yes, there
- 38:13you go. Sorry.
- 38:15Yeah, 18. Yeah, he's the remember, he was
- 38:1817 running around with these guys last year, running insanely
- 38:22fast. And he's built, built like a
- 38:25man. But he's he was, until recently,
- 38:28a boy. Yeah, I get confused because
- 38:31Luke Boys is a bit of a machine himself as well, isn't he?
- 38:34Yeah. Oh.
- 38:36The thing I wanted to say about the men's 800 meters, I don't
- 38:39know if you've seen the semi is, but the Peyton Craig shot
- 38:44himself right in the 4th. So him and was it?
- 38:47Bob God, yeah. Did you say this on?
- 38:52No. Yeah, it says yeah.
- 38:55Did you want to explain it right?
- 38:57Bob and Peyton Craig are like on paper in this semi final heat.
- 39:02Like they're the ones who are going to progress pretty
- 39:04comfortably. Looking at the piece of paper, I
- 39:06think it was top 2. And then there's some like
- 39:09fastest losers and they'd like they had the race tied up, the
- 39:13two of them just striding up the last 100 meters, like 510 meters
- 39:18from the rest. And they like completely shut it
- 39:20down. They even give each other a fist
- 39:23bump as they're like coming over the line.
- 39:26And then next minute this guy, I can't remember what his name
- 39:29was, he's just, he's torn down about 5 or 6 people in the last
- 39:3350 minutes and he's just dipped. Painting Craig on the line
- 39:38whilst painting Craig's like in reverse doing his cooldown
- 39:41almost and he didn't even get to the final because of it.
- 39:46You'd be sick. Craig Martian will have it how
- 39:54you learn from them things, though he's still young.
- 39:56It's stuff you, like, hear about, but you.
- 39:59Yeah. Shades of I was wondering where
- 40:02he was. Yeah, because did you see it was
- 40:09doing the rounds on social media Must have been on Thursday, the
- 40:121500 heats like Calm and Jude kind of like shook hands
- 40:15finishing, going over the line. And then that's obviously just
- 40:18somewhere it's influenced them and they've gone.
- 40:21Let's have a little fist bump. And to be fair, they did like
- 40:24work together and figure the race out.
- 40:27Like the kind of shared don't know the work at the front and
- 40:31whatever, but just give it another 5 yards.
- 40:35I think though in terms of selection, I reckon that's still
- 40:37pretty open, but for people, for other guys that are all running
- 40:43pretty fast. Yeah, it's a tough one to pick.
- 40:48The 100 meters, both in the men and the women, There's like so
- 40:50many kind of like within half a second or so of each other.
- 40:56Oh yeah, you hope their form over in Europe counts for a bit
- 41:01because your form going into the Championship should you know the
- 41:07best indication of who's going to run well.
- 41:10I wonder if the selectors now they've seen these
- 41:14championships, they have an idea in the back of the mind if they
- 41:19were to pick the team now, who it would be?
- 41:21And then would they through word of mouth to the coaches be like,
- 41:27hey, look like your guys not quite there right now.
- 41:30If if we're going to choose him, we need to see 144 low before
- 41:35the end of the period or would like, I wonder how it works.
- 41:41They probably shouldn't say anything, should they?
- 41:42But. If they're conflicted, they
- 41:45might. People have got people in each
- 41:47other's pockets, then, yeah. Yeah. 5000 meters will go women
- 41:55first. I didn't watch this race.
- 41:58Jess Hall won. So she dropped.
- 42:00She dropped to the floor in the 1500 meters.
- 42:03She dropped the 800 from her choice of racing.
- 42:07And then she stood on the start line in the 5000 meters with
- 42:11probably quite a lot of pressure, both mainly
- 42:14internalized because she knows what she's capable of and she
- 42:18probably expects and demands crazy high standards from
- 42:22herself. So going into these
- 42:24championships and being on the start line of earth, said
- 42:29discipline with kind of no result to show for it.
- 42:33She would have been demanding a huge performance from herself
- 42:36and fair play to her that she provided.
- 42:38So she won the 5000 meters 1531 from Linden Hall 1515 and 2nd
- 42:44and more the Sky Ring 1518 and 3rd.
- 42:48Can either of you inform me as to how it played out?
- 42:55Yeah, I am. So it was, I think they went
- 42:58through 3K and about 924 which is 924 or 930 thereabouts.
- 43:07So like 9 1/2 minute, you know that 3101550 sort of place.
- 43:13So it wasn't particularly on. And then Lauren Ryan, I think
- 43:17was in front for a chunk of it. And then with three laps to go,
- 43:29why am I blanking on her now? Rose?
- 43:31Rose Davies. Yeah.
- 43:33Rosie Davis, She she she made a, she made a move with, yeah, with
- 43:38three laps to go, dropped like a 67 second lap.
- 43:42And then there was, I think there was a group of 6, maybe
- 43:46with Lauren Ryan pushing the pace prior to then, but then it
- 43:51dropped, it quickly dropped to 4 or maybe it was only a group of
- 43:54six that dropped to 4, which included the the top three that
- 43:58you just mentioned and rose. And I think the next lap was 67
- 44:04as well, 67 or 68. This is just me going off of the
- 44:07screen. And then Jess Hall had already
- 44:12gone around or sorry, no Linden Hall Hall Lyndon took up the
- 44:18pace when Rose started to when it looked like it might slow
- 44:24down. And that was and I when I was
- 44:27watching that did Lynd, did Lyndon feature in the 1500?
- 44:31I don't know. If she did, I don't think so.
- 44:35Which is unusual, right? So because she's she's the
- 44:37previous she might have been like the first Aussie woman to
- 44:40go into 4 minutes for 1500. So like she is a 1500m runner,
- 44:45but she I'm assuming she's intentionally chosen to step up
- 44:49to the 5K. And like when it was 6, it had
- 44:52Georgia Griffith in there and Ryan in there as well.
- 44:59And so like some all top names, top 5000 meter names.
- 45:04And when they got dropped and then Morty Skyring was still
- 45:06holding on. You're like, oh, this is this is
- 45:08turning into a very good race. And Lyndon was making her move
- 45:12and it felt as though Linden had maybe been very deliberate in
- 45:16picking up, gone up in distance. And I'm trying to get this
- 45:18right. So it was a, it was very
- 45:20exciting. I was rooting, you know, reading
- 45:23a bit for the underdog in that respect.
- 45:25But Jess, I was just too good. I think they closed.
- 45:29I think Jess must have run like a 61 or 62 second last lap, like
- 45:32they were just flying. Yeah, it's a good race.
- 45:36Good burn up towards the end. Jess, all too good Linen Hall,
- 45:39really good race in second. I think running those times like
- 45:43sub 1520 with a kick down it was yeah, it's just a quality field.
- 45:48As I think I mentioned at the start, there was 5 different
- 45:51shoe brands represented in the top 6.
- 45:54Like a heap of different pro athletes coming from, you know,
- 45:57some of these US based athletes versus different Aussie groups.
- 46:00It was really cool. Is that back-to-back 5000 meter
- 46:05for Jess? She won in Perth last year and
- 46:07she the fun part was given. I didn't watch the race.
- 46:11You know when you go on that roster athletics and you can see
- 46:15all all the races listed, rather than clicking results, you can
- 46:19click start list. So when I've done this, I
- 46:23clicked into the start list of the ones I hadn't seen and tried
- 46:26to like forecast what the outcome would be.
- 46:29And I'll be honest, like I've been maybe a little bit critical
- 46:32of Jess in the past couple of weeks on here.
- 46:35And when I seen Lyndon Hall, Rose Davis, Georgia Griffith all
- 46:39in there together, I didn't have Jess's winning this.
- 46:43So when I did see the results, I was like fair play, like after
- 46:47what had happened to the other day or so prior as well.
- 46:50I think it shows tremendous grits and resilience to come
- 46:55back, turn up and yeah, do it all again.
- 47:00Is there a certain standard you have to meet to run at this
- 47:04championship? Yeah, you're looking at the
- 47:08entire fields. I'm just looking at the lads 5K,
- 47:12so last home was 1520 and then you look at the women's, last
- 47:17home was 1834. I think so, Norm.
- 47:22So at least a couple of years ago they'd set a standard like a
- 47:26time standard. And then I know for last year it
- 47:30was there was a mixed mixture of Stan standard as well as top
- 47:36three in your state championships.
- 47:38So like I think I could have run the 5K.
- 47:42Remember we did state the state 5K last year, so I think I then
- 47:48could have run nationals. Now I think if the fields get
- 47:51too big, they have to split into two races and they might have
- 47:53done that last year, so maybe they chose not to this year, But
- 47:57so I think that might have watered down the fields in that
- 48:02regard. What was the scenario where Owen
- 48:05could have ended up doing nationals?
- 48:08Because he finished one behind you in that race, wasn't it?
- 48:13I think so, yeah. 2. Yeah.
- 48:17But again, yeah, but I think then it depends on, I don't know
- 48:21if it was like WA resident, you know, there might have been
- 48:24restrictions around that. But that was the that was how it
- 48:28worked last year. There was it was written into
- 48:30the criteria that you could beat you place top three in your
- 48:32state champs I think. So whether or not it was the
- 48:35same again, presumably it was based on the results.
- 48:39OK. And then the last race was the
- 48:41men's 5000 meters. Surprise, surprise, Cam Myers
- 48:451311 goes back-to-back 1500 meter, 5000 meter double
- 48:50national champion proven he is arguably arguably not the best
- 48:57Australian athlete at the minute.
- 48:59That's a good conversation actually.
- 49:00I was thinking is Cam or Jet like Jess has the CV and the
- 49:05credentials already to a name. So probably like in terms of
- 49:09achievements and stuff she Trump's him but maybe like
- 49:14global stardom and hype type thing.
- 49:18Cam is the biggest Australian athlete right now anyway.
- 49:22Seth was second 1312 and Morgan MacDonald was there also 1312.
- 49:27Very very close between second and third.
- 49:30It was a dip for the line. You thought Morgan might have
- 49:33had them but Seth just held on. Analysis of Cams win it's.
- 49:40Just too good liking. If you burn him, if you try and
- 49:44burn him from the start, I think he just hangs on to you.
- 49:48If you sit, he just said kicks you.
- 49:52Yeah. I think he's just unbeatable.
- 49:55Like he on that day, he was unbeatable, I think, yeah.
- 50:00I think they did exactly what they should have done.
- 50:03So was it Jackson Sharp and largely Seth O'Donnell that did
- 50:07the majority of the pace setting?
- 50:10Like they let it go for the first lap and then Seth went to
- 50:13the front and he knew it was race on.
- 50:15And I think because it was the night before Cam had run 329.
- 50:20So to run 329 and then back up the next day and he's only was
- 50:26he 19 or 20 like and you remember what Seth did to him in
- 50:30Perth last year. Remember, we were audibly
- 50:33excited in the crowd, Ryan, when Seth kicked over the top of him
- 50:38in a slower race. So you you think maybe there's a
- 50:43question mark over whether or not he's got the aerobic
- 50:45capacity and and the ability to recover to back up.
- 50:50So I think they did all that. I think they fired all their
- 50:52shots the way they should to try and beat him.
- 50:54And yeah, I think you're right. I think he's just too good.
- 50:59Like 311, like 1311 is so fast. Like I feel like that time sort
- 51:04of gets blunted now because you've got these Kenyans running
- 51:06like 1240s and 1250s, like 1311 in like a national champ when
- 51:12they're normally like, that's so fast.
- 51:16So yeah, what do they run in a timed race?
- 51:19You have to think under 13 minutes.
- 51:22Yeah, yeah, definitely. What's your record?
- 51:26I think Mottram might still have it.
- 51:27Is it 12:55? 57 Yeah, maybe. 12 Mottram
- 51:33around 12:50. Cars, yeah.
- 51:36If Kyle Robinson's in this race, does he want?
- 51:40Four, that would be, yeah. I mean, that would have been
- 51:44very good to watch. Do we?
- 51:48Who would you pick? Do we?
- 51:50Do we whip that one out on social media this week?
- 51:52That could be. That's how good's that.
- 51:56He's got them both. Is it?
- 51:58Who is that in there? It's calm and Kai.
- 52:03Yeah, there you go. We call.
- 52:04The one who doesn't know for anyone does know, Ryan is just
- 52:07pointed like to the poster over his bed and him and Dean with
- 52:12like Cam Myers, Kai Robinson. Why has it got all lipstick
- 52:16stains over? Get me confused for crooks.
- 52:26What a race. Yeah.
- 52:28And his interview afterwards as well.
- 52:30He's just such like a genuine top fucking sound lad.
- 52:35Like it's just, he's just him. Like what?
- 52:39Anyone young in athletics would despair to be anyone older,
- 52:43clearly. Feel like he's just living like
- 52:47he is, just loving life. Like he enjoys running, he
- 52:50enjoys racing. He's just like living the dream.
- 52:54Going for a run with Tommy Cross, it just can't get any
- 52:57better. Let's fucking go.
- 53:06Just got that fat Nike deal that'll just be weighing them in
- 53:09like every couple of weeks at the minute.
- 53:12Yeah, a few bonuses in paying out with all these results,
- 53:17hopefully. And lastly, there was obviously
- 53:21a couple of Sprint madnesses going on as well.
- 53:23We don't usually talk about the sprints, but the 200 meters was
- 53:27on the last night, wasn't it? It's insanely fast times gout.
- 53:30What did he run like 1967 or something?
- 53:36Yeah. Yeah.
- 53:37Is that a national record? That is a national record, yeah,
- 53:41I think took his own. See our mate Jonathan Gall on
- 53:46Twitter was he wasn't too impressed.
- 53:48Well, he was that impressed that he was going down conspiracy
- 53:52theory Ave. with that 200 meters.
- 53:56I think he done some analysis. Now I'm not saying this at all
- 54:00because I don't know anything about the sprints.
- 54:03I'm just being the messenger here, he says.
- 54:06Have to wonder a bit about the times in the Australian 200
- 54:09meter final. The top 7 all round personal
- 54:12best and the top five all by .2 or more.
- 54:17It goes back to what Owen was saying about the track being
- 54:20fast. Clearly it's variably fast.
- 54:25It's just salty that I think a few American folk didn't like
- 54:31because I think it might have been.
- 54:33Was it the second fastest or fastest ever?
- 54:36Like legal time under twenty time in.
- 54:42Yeah. And then I think there was some
- 54:45reference to some American that might have run faster or similar
- 54:49who's currently serving a four year doping ban or something.
- 54:51Did you say that pop up in your newsfeed?
- 54:54Aryan. Nice.
- 54:55And yeah, I think is his name, yeah.
- 54:58So. Yeah, I don't think they're
- 55:01quite across Australian athletics because they were
- 55:04talking about store. Butchering a few things, yeah.
- 55:08Star well, I kept saying. Star well.
- 55:11And doesn't Jonathan Go have a bit of an Aussie accent to you
- 55:14guys? Is he got some sort of, he's got
- 55:18something there. It's not all American.
- 55:20He'd actually be, you know what? How funny would it be to
- 55:23interview him? I'll be unreal.
- 55:28But he confused me because he's British.
- 55:31But then and he like acts like he's an American, like he
- 55:34fanboys just as much as them Disney and talks about America
- 55:39as though he's an American. Is he Brit?
- 55:41Is he's back in British? Is it?
- 55:43Yeah, yeah. See the guy who supports
- 55:46Brighton. Yeah, actually didn't realize
- 55:50fair play. He he ran 1442 or something like
- 55:56that. I didn't realize he was a good
- 55:58runner back in the day. 2943 Got your cupboard on?
- 56:04He he's right, 2943. Yeah, Oh.
- 56:08Shite. 14252943. And then the other two about
- 56:14faster I think, can't they? Don't know we're going off paced
- 56:18here but. The Johnson brothers.
- 56:23The Twins. Yeah, anyway, what did that?
- 56:27A conversation. They had sparked something of
- 56:30mine to the day as well. I'll speak about it later.
- 56:32Maybe we've got some more results.
- 56:34So and did you want to talk about these?
- 56:35You threw them in there. Yeah, I just should have because
- 56:39we spoke about them last week. I didn't know, I didn't get to
- 56:42watch these races. It was the Paris Marathon, so on
- 56:45the men's side it was won by Yemen Cripper, who I think a lot
- 56:49of distance runners will know. He ran 20518.
- 56:53Second was Bail in Teshuger who ran 2/05/23 and 3rd was CLA Kip
- 57:002 around 2/05/28. So yeah pretty congested there
- 57:05near the top. But I just the top ten finished
- 57:08sub 207 which I think is just bonkers.
- 57:11Like Paris. I don't know if it's renowned to
- 57:15be a flat fast course but when the top ten finishing under 207
- 57:21it has to be like the top 6 for sub 206.
- 57:25Like that's just crazy running top. 6 within 40 seconds of each
- 57:29other. At least that's a good race.
- 57:32Yeah, yeah. I think it's just it's one of
- 57:34the bigger marathons. It's just not one of them world
- 57:36majors. Like, it does get a good crowd,
- 57:39but he must have got a big appearance fee to sway him away
- 57:42from, like a Boston or or a London.
- 57:46On the women's side, it was won by Cherie Demessa, who ran to
- 57:501835. Second was Miss Gain Ailey Mayo
- 57:55who ran 219 O eight and third was Magdalen Messi who ran
- 58:002/19/17 and just another double. Another noble mention was that
- 58:05Alisa Vianu, she's the Finnish girl, she ran at 22135.
- 58:10So she's continuing her sort of hot string of them two twenties,
- 58:15221, like she's she. She nails the marathon.
- 58:20She's she's pretty big on Instagram as well.
- 58:23I don't know if you've seen considering like she's Finnish
- 58:27athletes as they go don't seem so she's speaking.
- 58:30How about big profiles? I don't know.
- 58:34Ryan would know. Get her on the pod.
- 58:39I think, well we'll have an unread DM to her and think.
- 58:44Front of the account or your account?
- 58:47On these double accounts, yes. Met back in February, we reached
- 58:52out. We.
- 58:56We did, but yeah, she's she's a six and let's see 40 odd K
- 59:04followers, which is pretty, pretty big to be fair.
- 59:08Anyway, side tracking. And then just Blavares, way down
- 59:13the road, there was a Rotterdam marathon in the Netherlands on
- 59:18the male side. This was one by Gay Idamo Adola
- 59:23from Ethiopia, who ran two O 354.
- 59:28Second was Tisfae Dariba from Ethiopia who ran two O 415.
- 59:34And then third was Bashir Abdi from Belgium.
- 59:37He ran two O 419. So again, like pretty, pretty
- 59:41close finish. 4th ran two O 421, so at the top end there, yeah,
- 59:48it was pretty, pretty tight. Another one note we mentioned
- 59:52was a Hillary bore from the USA here on 2/08/40, which is pretty
- 1:00:00fast. I've put him right up there
- 1:00:03because their marathon, their trials should be coming off
- 1:00:07within the next year or two. So yeah, that just US field,
- 1:00:11just every now and then another name just gets thrown in that
- 1:00:14ring. Pietro Riviera, the Pietro Riva,
- 1:00:19is he not a 1500 guy? Yes.
- 1:00:23I don't know. I have to have a look.
- 1:00:25His name's He. Came eight, Yeah, he came eight
- 1:00:29and he ran two O 646. Hardly.
- 1:00:33How how mad is it that like the sub 210 used to be like
- 1:00:37unbelievable didn't it? Like that was clearly pro and
- 1:00:40like top level. And now as you see with these
- 1:00:44like Paris and Rotterdam a week before Boston and London sub
- 1:00:48205, like there's just so, so many people out there just
- 1:00:51randomly doing it kind of low key.
- 1:00:54It's crazy. And even if you look at that,
- 1:00:56who is that? A dollar?
- 1:00:57Who won it I've never heard of. Him, I've heard of him but not
- 1:01:00for like a long time like he. So he's paydays from 20 from
- 1:01:05Berlin. He finished second in Berlin
- 1:01:07back in 2017, was 8 seconds quicker.
- 1:01:11What the hell? Nine years ago.
- 1:01:15So you're not equally Asian? Resurgence.
- 1:01:17Yeah. So that's probably pretty super
- 1:01:19shoes. I assume when you ran that,
- 1:01:22that's like like, well, he's probably not running like
- 1:01:25remember 2016 Gale and Rupp and those guys who were were wearing
- 1:01:28like prototypes but in the Olympics.
- 1:01:35On the women's side, first was Mikeda's Shameless from
- 1:01:40Ethiopia, she ran 21856. Third was Ahmet Ahmad from
- 1:01:45Ethiopia who ran 22125, and 3rd was Shite Ishite from Ethiopia
- 1:01:51who ran 2/23/22. So an Ethiopian sweep there on
- 1:01:57the women's. But yeah, two very deep
- 1:01:59marathons in Europe there and in Ireland there was also some big
- 1:02:07enough races. So there was the National Rd.
- 1:02:1010K that was on in Phoenix Park. It's called a Revive Active
- 1:02:13Great Ireland. The way you call it, the Phoenix
- 1:02:16Park, you know bye in the Phoenix.
- 1:02:22Park, Yeah. On the men's side, the winner
- 1:02:26was in guide and he ran at 3013 and from Klon of Harriers.
- 1:02:32And second was Jamie Walsh who ran 3018, he's from Galway City
- 1:02:36Harriers. And 3rd was Jake Reagan who ran
- 1:02:393022. He's from St.
- 1:02:41John's AC so I'm pretty good running.
- 1:02:43Like the Phoenix Park is not flat and Ireland weather
- 1:02:47recently has been absolutely abysmal.
- 1:02:49So they're, yeah, moving well downloads.
- 1:02:54What's the women incentive to win nationals here?
- 1:02:58It's just a national title really.
- 1:03:00I don't think he any money just might get a nice little post on
- 1:03:04athletics on Instagram. Like I don't know where.
- 1:03:08Like there's so many bullies missing from that national tank
- 1:03:11A So yeah, I don't know if it's as valued much as it shouldn't
- 1:03:17be. So yeah.
- 1:03:22And on the women's side, Emily Haggard Kearney, she won it in
- 1:03:27at 3025. She's from North Belfast
- 1:03:30Harriers and second was Hannah Gilland, she ran 3518.
- 1:03:35She's from Anna Dale Striders and 3rd was Sheila O'burn, she
- 1:03:41ran 3539 and she's from Parnells AC.
- 1:03:45So yeah, more good run in there. But I feel like like you just
- 1:03:50know by the times. Like the male field is so much
- 1:03:53stronger than the female field, do you think?
- 1:03:565K compare 10K. In relation to a woman's 30,
- 1:04:01yeah, the 30 versus 33 sames on par.
- 1:04:05And then 35 doesn't, so it's not as much depth, hey down the
- 1:04:11country. There was another race.
- 1:04:12And Sonia O'Sullivan has a Cove 10 mile and this actually gets
- 1:04:17some big names. So on the male side, the winner
- 1:04:20was Adam Clarke and he ran a 5038.
- 1:04:24Second was Sean Doyle, he ran a 5144, he's from Cork City.
- 1:04:30And 3rd was Michael Bronpton, he ran a 5351.
- 1:04:34So that Adam Tarik, he's actually, he's a breast, he's
- 1:04:36from the UK and he he's sponsored by Adidas.
- 1:04:42Think he's going out with Lady Partridge?
- 1:04:43Oh no, he's going out with Charlotte Purdue.
- 1:04:47Yeah, on the women's side. And.
- 1:04:51Lily Partridge actually won the women's side, so she's with Ben
- 1:04:54Connor and she ran 5615. Second was Jess Coyne, she ran
- 1:05:005754, she's from Laval AC. And 3rd was Dee Grady, she ran
- 1:05:055911 and she's from NS track AC Charlotte Purdue came forward to
- 1:05:10not race. She around 61 minutes, but yeah,
- 1:05:13so yeah. Degradey is an.
- 1:05:16Avid listener, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:22But yeah, it's cool that. Sonia so well, there must be
- 1:05:24money. If these boys are coming across,
- 1:05:28you know, in in the, in the. Patreon in the easy double.
- 1:05:31Club when people start getting the singlets was thinking we
- 1:05:35should have easy double club records and if D Grady comes
- 1:05:39across it's going to be hard to take club records off her.
- 1:05:45Yeah, if you've done 11 gold in there.
- 1:05:48Rappers. Unless Izzy.
- 1:05:51Pops in. My thanks for.
- 1:05:55Giving us some domestic lowdown. What's going on over?
- 1:05:58There on the on the aisle. I thought that was 2.
- 1:06:03By 12 minutes 2. By 6 minutes, yeah.
- 1:06:07But yeah, I was doing my long run yesterday.
- 1:06:09And I. Was thinking well.
- 1:06:10I actually feel a little bit fit again now, like it's it's a nice
- 1:06:16feeling. Running feels normal again and
- 1:06:18got some confidence back. Got four or five weeks worth of
- 1:06:22workouts under the belt, so we'll see what that's worth.
- 1:06:28It feels nice to be thinking of myself as a runner again and not
- 1:06:32just someone sat on the sidelines passing comments
- 1:06:36loaded with spite because I can't run myself.
- 1:06:40So yeah, looking forward to. I had to save.
- 1:06:43I have to save some stuff for the new Agenda show, but yeah, I
- 1:06:46won't go into too much. You your body though.
- 1:06:51Like will you take her a? Little bit going into this week
- 1:06:54is that the the plan a bit of like a bit less time on the bike
- 1:06:58towards the back end of the week yeah.
- 1:07:00So that was the thing I was trying to figure out because.
- 1:07:03I've only ran 70K as a peak, but then obviously quite a few hours
- 1:07:07on the bike as well and that's probably just like invisible
- 1:07:10fatigue almost. So just need to like strip that
- 1:07:13right back, reduce the volume of the run and keep some of the
- 1:07:17intensity there for the sharpness and the confidence and
- 1:07:21we should be good to go. The main thing is to hold back a
- 1:07:24bit on the session tomorrow, not try and get any last minute
- 1:07:28confidence or fake fitness because it's all been accounted
- 1:07:32for by now. Yeah, I had a pretty big.
- 1:07:36Week as well. I think I had my biggest.
- 1:07:37Week ever in Ireland and I ran I think 146 kilometers, a few
- 1:07:45juicy sessions, double threshold on a Tuesday, Saturday and then
- 1:07:52just single threshold on Thursday.
- 1:07:54So yeah, lots of them threshold work in there.
- 1:07:57Easy long run on the Sunday, cycled.
- 1:08:01Did a bit of cycling on the Wednesday just to sort of feel
- 1:08:04like after the double threshold on the Tuesday, I do feel a
- 1:08:07little bit beat up. I don't know where it's because
- 1:08:09I, I get away with it on the Saturday because I can nap and
- 1:08:12all that sort of stuff, but feed up.
- 1:08:13Whereas on a Tuesday you're in work, you're sort of like
- 1:08:17cognitively engaged with other people.
- 1:08:19But yeah, I sort of feel a bit beat up on the Wednesday.
- 1:08:23So I sort of just take it easy and cycle a little, put a little
- 1:08:27cycling in instead of running for like 60 minutes.
- 1:08:31But yeah, big week. So.
- 1:08:34Hopefully I'll have another few weeks with this before yeah,
- 1:08:38racing. I don't think I'll have much
- 1:08:39speed work done for the 1500 I do in May, which will be not fun
- 1:08:45at all. But no, it's exciting.
- 1:08:50Yeah, I was. Two workouts in a steady run
- 1:08:53last week, so. Yeah.
- 1:08:55That workout with you on the Tuesday, Ryan Steady run
- 1:08:58Thursday and then a workout it's 4 by 2K on the Saturday and then
- 1:09:04a long run yesterday. I pulled up pretty sore in that
- 1:09:09long run on Sunday so I may just have a bit of a downer like a
- 1:09:12lot of week this week I intentionally I didn't ride
- 1:09:15Saturday My I was Wheeling my bike out of the house Thursday
- 1:09:19morning to do the morning bike threshold work ahead of the
- 1:09:24Thursday night run and my back wheel had buckled.
- 1:09:27So bike bike problems that I'm very.
- 1:09:32Unfamiliar with? So it's currently getting
- 1:09:34serviced, but it means, yeah, so I meant I, I sort of juggle
- 1:09:39things around a little bit, but to be honest, I'm I'm a bit
- 1:09:43uncomfortable in that hip area. So.
- 1:09:45I'm, I'm thinking I might just have a bit of a lot of time of
- 1:09:47it. Did you see that cycle?
- 1:09:51Race in France. Where there's like a load of
- 1:09:53cobbles, the Paris looks like chaos.
- 1:09:58I seen he get loud and he loves his saddle and then Oh my God.
- 1:10:06And. People.
- 1:10:06Yeah. And then it finishes.
- 1:10:08On like an Oval it was really cool the way it finished, like
- 1:10:12the little like velodrome type open velodrome.
- 1:10:16Yeah, and Aussie, this has been like somewhere between 5:00.
- 1:10:21And 10 years ago, there was. An Aussie guy that was a
- 1:10:25domestic most for most of his days so he spent most of the
- 1:10:28time just grabbing drink bottles and riding to set up race wins
- 1:10:33for other people and somehow found himself in a breakaway in
- 1:10:38this particular race. And yeah, managed to snag it in
- 1:10:41a Sprint finish inside that velodrome.
- 1:10:44And I was I was at a mate's house a bit of a watch party
- 1:10:47watching it and it all have it was a bit of a fairy tale.
- 1:10:50So yeah, it looks like a cool, cool race.
- 1:10:53A guy we went to high school with, he, he just announced that
- 1:10:58was his last one. He's been riding for 11 years
- 1:11:00and hanging up boot so it looks looks.
- 1:11:05Intense, hey? Yeah.
- 1:11:07Was it like going? For like the.
- 1:11:11Would that have been like his fifth monument or something this
- 1:11:14year if he'd won that? Who's this Tad Pagacha?
- 1:11:18Yeah, that sound. About right.
- 1:11:19Paris one, yeah. He's won pretty much everything.
- 1:11:22Else but yes. Running news now.
- 1:11:27Then so running news. Is powered by Gnomeo.
- 1:11:29The performance supplement trusted by Andrus, Elm Green,
- 1:11:32Cole Hocker, Connor Man's Izzy, Bath Doyle and many more.
- 1:11:35Drink Gnomeo and prepare to outperform, which I will be
- 1:11:39doing tomorrow morning and on Sunday morning.
- 1:11:44Emphasis on outperform and not underperform.
- 1:11:51Don't. Take two.
- 1:11:52Yeah, I want a few of these. Items of yours do you want to
- 1:11:57over to you Where do you want to start?
- 1:11:58Yeah, might as well start where it hits home.
- 1:12:02What close to? Home Jay Barraclough out of
- 1:12:04London, but in the same week he announced to see that of London.
- 1:12:08He does attract. 5K, which is just very Jake Ish.
- 1:12:14Yeah, it's sad, but I think it is like bigger picture, like
- 1:12:17it's the right call. He's nowhere near fit enough to
- 1:12:20run London just from a cost perspective as well.
- 1:12:23Like flying from Japan to London, it just wouldn't be
- 1:12:28worth it. So I think we could all see a
- 1:12:30sort of common. But yeah, he's doing an accident
- 1:12:36instead apparently, which in his eyes is a bigger event.
- 1:12:40I think only his eyes it's bigger.
- 1:12:47Have you heard some of the Is he?
- 1:12:50Talking about the is it like her Kony, like the New Year's Day?
- 1:12:55This is just the Yamagata or something like that Yamagata.
- 1:12:58I couldn't. It's probably big in the
- 1:13:00Japanese eyes. Yeah, it's probably bigger.
- 1:13:02Yeah. But in like worldwide, like
- 1:13:04London Marathon is freaking enormous.
- 1:13:06For a British London Marathon is like the pinnacle.
- 1:13:09OK, so, but it would be fair to say that perhaps?
- 1:13:12There's some accidents that rivals the London Marathon.
- 1:13:15Would you, would you allow that or no?
- 1:13:19If you're from Japan, probably. Like, do you really care about?
- 1:13:22Like the Haqqani Academy? No.
- 1:13:25Well, I can't even live stream it, can you?
- 1:13:27I. Struggle to get a strength to
- 1:13:28Tokyo, but no it's. We got to see.
- 1:13:34I'd love the idea of the accidents.
- 1:13:35So yeah, good luck to him doing that one.
- 1:13:38And I like the way he's going back to sort of doing like a
- 1:13:41track 5K. What did he run?
- 1:13:43Did he run? He ran sub 15.
- 1:13:45His goal was sub 1530. I think we all knew he was going
- 1:13:48around yeah, around like 15 flat thereabouts.
- 1:13:52The. Yeah, so I did like the comment
- 1:13:55about the. Do the echidon.
- 1:13:57As a warm up, Well, not as a warm up.
- 1:13:58Lift your ceiling, you know, through an echidon.
- 1:14:01So do that because what did he say?
- 1:14:03They normally say between 10 and 20 KS the legs in those
- 1:14:06echidons. So you you lift your your
- 1:14:09threshold to do that and then you do a marathon block off the
- 1:14:12back of that, which he said. That's quite a popular approach
- 1:14:16for a lot of the Japanese. Yeah, there'll be a race
- 1:14:20planned. In like may or.
- 1:14:21Something half marathon distance and you can see like the
- 1:14:25headline already. Like can I hold the 5K pace from
- 1:14:30just April for four times the length in just three weeks time?
- 1:14:37Hey, it's good. It gets.
- 1:14:40Me. Does he go Australia for his
- 1:14:43marathon? Do you think?
- 1:14:46I did mention on one of his videos.
- 1:14:49There's he'd mentioned Gold Coast but he's done that twice
- 1:14:53already so I don't know if he'd maybe Sydney.
- 1:14:59It's I think he's really pace. Oriented, yeah, true, Melbourne
- 1:15:05would keep changing. But yeah.
- 1:15:09So. Good looking now Jake.
- 1:15:12Umm, the World Marathon Championships.
- 1:15:13So that was announced this week. So sort of like a standalone
- 1:15:16event because it used to be in conjunction with the World UMM
- 1:15:21Athletics Championships. Umm, so this?
- 1:15:24Year it was like that Sprint finish in the stadium, which I
- 1:15:27personally love. I love one of them races like
- 1:15:29finish in a stadium. I think it's so cool.
- 1:15:32Umm, but this one, yes, it'll be it's like own thing and
- 1:15:35apparently one year it's going to be for men, the next year is.
- 1:15:39Going to be for women. I really don't know.
- 1:15:41I probably should have read up on it a little bit.
- 1:15:44I tried reading this article to understand what the.
- 1:15:47Motivation is here and I can't understand it.
- 1:15:54And basically the first one is going to be in.
- 1:15:55Athens because that. Is the home of a lie?
- 1:15:59Actually, I don't know. Why is it?
- 1:16:01Why is it nothing? That actually, yeah, the.
- 1:16:03Olympics. I just don't understand SO.
- 1:16:06I thought some of these major championships, part of the magic
- 1:16:10of them was that all these athletes in various disciplines
- 1:16:13converge in on the same time, in the same place, and it's in
- 1:16:18summer because it's the Summer Olympics or it's a summer World
- 1:16:21Championships and their summer sports.
- 1:16:22And, and it, there's some, it not only are the events special,
- 1:16:28but it's something about the whole competition is special.
- 1:16:31And so you're competing for your country and yet there's a medal
- 1:16:34tally like while you're carving an event out, like some of the
- 1:16:39magic of being at a championships, you know, the
- 1:16:41opening, closing ceremonies, like marathoners already.
- 1:16:46They're often the last events on the program.
- 1:16:49So you don't get to enjoy any of the program, but the swimmers
- 1:16:52are often 1st and then get to have fun or, you know, like I
- 1:16:58yeah, I don't I don't understand what the draw card is for this.
- 1:17:02Like I know there are other races that are stand alone, like
- 1:17:04world cross country is obviously stand alone, the world half
- 1:17:07marathon champs to stand low. We have the you know, the mile
- 1:17:10and fought like those other races that are stand alone
- 1:17:13championships. But I don't know if you're there
- 1:17:16must be some financial. Incentive is all I.
- 1:17:18Can think of do you put on with the world road running
- 1:17:22championships? Like there's a mile, 5K10K half.
- 1:17:26Would you throw it on the marathon then?
- 1:17:27I just think there's too many big events.
- 1:17:28Like there has to be a massive like cash grab for this to like
- 1:17:33for an athlete to pick it over, let's say a world major.
- 1:17:35Well, it's just, yeah, I do it. It feels like it loses.
- 1:17:39Its place in like it's no longer is it a world?
- 1:17:43What is it? And then are they in teams?
- 1:17:44Like does it maybe open people up so you can send a bigger team
- 1:17:48of marathoners versusing each other?
- 1:17:50Maybe. I think it rotates.
- 1:17:53As well so one. Year you could have, I don't
- 1:17:56know if they're going to integrate the world majors into
- 1:17:58this, Like one year you could have the world Marathon
- 1:18:01championships, like Chicago could be the World Marathon
- 1:18:04championship like after Athens or something like that.
- 1:18:08But I heard, I think it was them boys, the American lads on their
- 1:18:13Let's Run podcast. I think they were saying that
- 1:18:16it's one year is male, the next year is female.
- 1:18:22Yeah, that is supposedly. The thing and I don't
- 1:18:24understand. The motivation either perhaps
- 1:18:27would it be to try and like make it seem more prestigious, but I
- 1:18:32think it does the opposite. Yeah.
- 1:18:34Like there's no, it just sounds awful.
- 1:18:38Yeah, and the the article released by World Athletics does
- 1:18:41say from what you've said. Oh, and in terms of alternate
- 1:18:43years, so it's still every, you have a World Championships every
- 1:18:46second year, but there's a race that signifies the champion.
- 1:18:51So then you don't even qualify in the same way like the US
- 1:18:55Olympic world Championship trials, if they run a race
- 1:18:59doesn't exist. I don't know, it's just, I just,
- 1:19:03I don't get it. Not fair.
- 1:19:06Just like dilute the quality of the.
- 1:19:09Already the World Championships in themselves because it takes
- 1:19:12the marathon out of it and then the marathon World Championships
- 1:19:16by itself probably doesn't stand up as much as they would like it
- 1:19:20to do. So like if you compare it to all
- 1:19:22the majors, it's going to be viewed on not on par as like a
- 1:19:30London. And a new.
- 1:19:31York I don't think. I just just don't like.
- 1:19:36I wish. The article came out and said
- 1:19:37something that actually like was meaningful as to why they'd
- 1:19:41helped you get on board with it, or even just truthful.
- 1:19:46No, didn't, none of it. It's like paragraphs and
- 1:19:49paragraphs of. Gobble.
- 1:19:52Like kind of it actually says why they didn't what it was it
- 1:19:56why is it taking the event forward yes, so that was that in
- 1:20:01other. News Sam Ruth He's come out and
- 1:20:06the poor chap has a. Stressy.
- 1:20:08But apparently it was on his like rest week, so it's not
- 1:20:11running related. He's like, was he playing
- 1:20:13football or something and he like moved a certain way or
- 1:20:17something like that, which is super, super unfortunate because
- 1:20:21he was very fragile additions to come games, wouldn't he?
- 1:20:25Yeah. But he might be back like it
- 1:20:27depends. How if he caught it early, like
- 1:20:29Cole Gibbons, he caught his and he's back cross training already
- 1:20:33and what just shows how fragile those runners are.
- 1:20:36Do you reckon that's how it happens?
- 1:20:38You reckon it could, you could be that unlucky or you reckon it
- 1:20:40wasn't. Selling, underlying, you don't
- 1:20:44know. You really don't know.
- 1:20:47Seems very. Unlucky, doesn't it?
- 1:20:51And. Back to Japan, Ethan.
- 1:20:53Surely the guy. Who ran two O 7 in Osaka.
- 1:20:57He's he's taking holiday boys. He's gone over to Gold Coast and
- 1:21:03so he's going to be well first. First is Launceston.
- 1:21:06He's doing the Launceston half where he hopes to break 61.
- 1:21:12I watched his YouTube and he came out with that and he's
- 1:21:16pacing Gold Coast Marathon. So either the two O 7 group or
- 1:21:20two O 9 group which is I should just go show.
- 1:21:24Gold Coast Marathon is absolutely stacked.
- 1:21:28That's cool on both accounts. Like I mean it potentially you'd
- 1:21:30have to. Be favorite.
- 1:21:32Right for the Launceston half, Yeah.
- 1:21:35Oh, you. Wouldn't know some of them
- 1:21:37Aussies. Like her God and did all
- 1:21:41Japanese comes over as well. Yeah, Jimmy Whelan, the
- 1:21:44redemption race. He'll hardly fly across back.
- 1:21:48He's dying. In Spain, isn't he?
- 1:21:50Yeah. But yeah, that's a.
- 1:21:53Really common double I don't know well I done the Lancest, I
- 1:21:56done Lanceston 10K Australian and then the Gold Coast attended
- 1:22:02on Gold Coast 10K as well and I did the Launceston 10 into Gold
- 1:22:05Coast half but we. Didn't know each other then.
- 1:22:10Yeah, that's funny. We were invited.
- 1:22:13That was bizarre, hey. So did you do it 2023?
- 1:22:17No 24424 yeah, yeah. What did I only?
- 1:22:22Think I got in the last Test and I got like 3052 or something
- 1:22:26like that. You were well up the road.
- 1:22:29It was 30 or. 4 I think. Yeah, but you know, they were
- 1:22:35building the. Half then like that half.
- 1:22:37Marathon was one of the first years that they were really
- 1:22:39trying to promote it as a like they were trying to get like a
- 1:22:45label status. So they needed athlete
- 1:22:47representation of a certain tier across multiple.
- 1:22:50So I'm sure Ethan getting Ethan to come across and some of those
- 1:22:54Japanese guys helps them with whatever they need to do to tick
- 1:22:58the boxes there. So it's great that it's like
- 1:23:01another step in a good direction, which I think that
- 1:23:03race is exceptionally good. Like I couldn't I, I couldn't
- 1:23:07talk about it. Both Gold Coast but and the
- 1:23:10Launceston races, particularly the lawn system, unlike the
- 1:23:13climate is fantastic. They don't create any that they
- 1:23:18created put on like a really exceptional courses.
- 1:23:22They're really well run. Was that your experience too
- 1:23:26long? Yeah, I stayed high cash down.
- 1:23:29I've stayed that on the. Hotel, right.
- 1:23:31I think it's called the opposite.
- 1:23:34The society. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:23:36So. It's really looking at the
- 1:23:37window and I could see the boys like warming.
- 1:23:38Up and off and but yeah, like, Launceston is a beautiful punch,
- 1:23:42but beautiful part of Australia as well.
- 1:23:45And guys were in the same hotel at the same time and didn't know
- 1:23:49each other. Yeah.
- 1:23:50Yeah. And it's just made for running.
- 1:23:54Fast like it's pancake. Flat course and perfect
- 1:23:58conditions, bit cold if anything.
- 1:24:01And I think that year Brett Robinson and Sinead Diver, they
- 1:24:05both won the half. Did Brett?
- 1:24:08Yeah. Did Brett win in the end do?
- 1:24:11You think he won the half? Yeah.
- 1:24:14It was all very. Close, I was roaming with.
- 1:24:16The Kenyan fellow that came in to.
- 1:24:18Do it. And I think he.
- 1:24:20Maybe got too cold. He struggled about halfway in.
- 1:24:24Did you speak to him the night before?
- 1:24:26Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:24:28Was he a better roommate than me?
- 1:24:33He was nice. I mean, you're both lovely.
- 1:24:40It Speaking of like weird coincidences like that.
- 1:24:43The other day, Tom Ted sent me a photo from the Inside Run event
- 1:24:49at Gold Coast 2024. And obviously I didn't know
- 1:24:53either of you 2 or let alone him at the time.
- 1:24:56And like mine and Tom's backs are almost like against each
- 1:25:01other, facing the other way, just having conversations with
- 1:25:03different people. We all were you at that.
- 1:25:07We're about is that that event? Yeah, so was I, Yeah, I was at
- 1:25:10the same. Did you?
- 1:25:15Did you both have any beers? Yeah, no.
- 1:25:20Yeah, I was. I was trying put as many as it
- 1:25:22could away since you were. Free.
- 1:25:25Actually, after that I didn't go up there, had a.
- 1:25:28Rooftop thing after I didn't go up and that was when I first met
- 1:25:32Jake back off. I hopped on the the train and he
- 1:25:36was beside me and I was like, oh, I watched her because at the
- 1:25:39time I only knew him from TikTok.
- 1:25:42He was on TikTok for a bit. And I was like, oh.
- 1:25:46Senior TikTok and now look at him now half the pretty big deal
- 1:25:52is he just. Rapping on tip TikTok.
- 1:25:54Or. I was only memory of him is.
- 1:25:57He was like running down the. Street.
- 1:25:59And he was like in a suit and it was like the initial like,
- 1:26:02right, he's running to Japan. Yeah.
- 1:26:05Gotcha. Yeah.
- 1:26:08I'll have to relook at that. Photo then DNC if we can see you
- 1:26:11on. That rooftop, anywhere you'd
- 1:26:14been over next to Brady, scheming about something.
- 1:26:19Rough talking business talking show.
- 1:26:23Was rough up there as well I could have been.
- 1:26:27Shit, all right. And over that, we're going to.
- 1:26:30Boston. The.
- 1:26:32Elite feels. Well, if this is sort of a
- 1:26:34preview, it's going to happen before our next recording.
- 1:26:38So yeah, in short terms, if this is absolutely stacked, I didn't
- 1:26:44realize how big of a marathon Boston was.
- 1:26:48Like it to the Americans, it's like the marathon, like it is
- 1:26:53the one, and I don't get it because it's not even legal.
- 1:26:56Well, it is legal, but like there's an asterisk beside it
- 1:26:58because it's point to point. It's the OG isn't it, of the.
- 1:27:03Majors, the original first, I think, but yeah, so.
- 1:27:11I don't even know where to start.
- 1:27:12Boys you've got on the women's field, the fastest time is
- 1:27:17Sharon Locati. She's around 2:17 and she has
- 1:27:21the record in Boston. Then you've Irene checked I.
- 1:27:26Working as. Edisa, there are 217 girls on
- 1:27:30the American side. Emily System.
- 1:27:32She's running. She is the national record
- 1:27:34holder. She's a 218 girl.
- 1:27:36Got Sarah Hall there. Kelly Thackery represent.
- 1:27:39Surely Haley Thackery isn't running.
- 1:27:43Oh, she's pregnant, isn't she? Yeah.
- 1:27:46And. Load of top Americans.
- 1:27:49Is he? Is there?
- 1:27:51Lisa Whiteman is there, even though she's an asterisk beside
- 1:27:53her name for some reason. I've never seen an elite list so
- 1:27:58long before. It's absolutely stacked.
- 1:28:02You've got. Ava Crean from Ireland.
- 1:28:04I haven't heard much about her since her Dublin marathon thing
- 1:28:07she won but she is on the start list so she's around 2:34.
- 1:28:12So she'll be nowhere near the front, but it'll be interesting
- 1:28:14to see how she gets on. And yeah, then on the men's
- 1:28:19side, the top of the field, you've got Benson Caputo, he's
- 1:28:22around 2O216IN Tokyo John career two O 224 and then Mckesa
- 1:28:32Bygasa, he's around 2O3 and the. Boys again.
- 1:28:40It is just so stacked, just all top Kenyans and Ethiopians that
- 1:28:44Abdi Negae, he's the first European, he's around two O 420
- 1:28:50in London last year. I.
- 1:28:56Know I know he'd be so. Good, he'd be well up there.
- 1:29:01But the good thing with this, there's no cases.
- 1:29:02So it actually. Is like a proper.
- 1:29:04Race and apparently the weather is meant to be good.
- 1:29:09Yeah, zoo her. Talby, he's the guy.
- 1:29:11Who's from Morocco, But he's transferring to the USA and
- 1:29:16you've got Sandra Moen Roy Linklater from Canada.
- 1:29:19Apparently he's going well. He drinks the Namio as well.
- 1:29:23Howdy, Karen. And is he running?
- 1:29:27Be nice if he is. Can only a shame he is I feel
- 1:29:30I've seen him for a. While he's you.
- 1:29:32Hear nothing about him. I don't think he's run.
- 1:29:34Since the Houston race in 04 in 2024, Joe Clacker going.
- 1:29:42Again, second attempt, Charles. Hicks has seen important scene
- 1:29:46next to him. It says USA slash Great Britain
- 1:29:49has seen him on Instagram putting up a like a rail of his
- 1:29:53session the other day and he runs past his mate at like 5
- 1:29:57minute mile pace, like 20 miles into the run or something.
- 1:30:01He just says to him so comfortably, I am so fit right
- 1:30:04now. You've got Barry Keane from
- 1:30:10Ireland, he's a 2. 11:30 One guy if I.
- 1:30:16If we go. Win a prediction and USA.
- 1:30:22Because a lot of. That they really do a great job,
- 1:30:25don't they, of incentivizing like monetary incentive as well
- 1:30:29as just building hype for American athletes.
- 1:30:32So would you want to do a overall?
- 1:30:36Winner in USA first. US.
- 1:30:40I'd go John. Creer for the win on the male
- 1:30:42side. I just can't see I'm being
- 1:30:46beaten. I'm not.
- 1:30:47Are we going to call zoo? Her a child be American yeah Oh
- 1:30:51yeah, it's a fair share if. We are until he's gone.
- 1:30:54Yeah, he's the best you're. Not.
- 1:30:58In there as well. So he's doing it.
- 1:31:03No, he's not listed as he who was.
- 1:31:06Who was he? Who was he training?
- 1:31:08Who was? Clayton Young, who was in that
- 1:31:11workout that he got that he got dropped.
- 1:31:14Casey Clinger. Casey Clinger Where's Where's
- 1:31:17his? Name in here.
- 1:31:19Yeah, he ran Tokyo, so I think it might be a bit soon.
- 1:31:23All right. I think it's a.
- 1:31:25Shoe in like your. Man Zuhar.
- 1:31:28Talbi is just by far the Bear American and well, who do you
- 1:31:32sell for the win? Alex Masai.
- 1:31:38I mean, they're all. Like, who's to say?
- 1:31:40Like symbols? Yeah, yeah, I.
- 1:31:44Mean. I mean.
- 1:31:46Symbols would be right and high, wouldn't he, after what happened
- 1:31:50last year at the world champion Adi Negay, like is always, is
- 1:31:59always up there as well, right? I can't look past Korea either.
- 1:32:05He seems to. Look like he's taking the piss
- 1:32:07every time he runs. Is Mengesha.
- 1:32:16Running well, that's a name that's been like it is.
- 1:32:23I mean, he's. 25 in the AFL. That's brown low.
- 1:32:26Age, so I'll back him in. Yeah.
- 1:32:31Women, maybe? Yeah, look, Caddy.
- 1:32:34But I can't look past Aaron and Caddy.
- 1:32:36She's better. Than as well.
- 1:32:38Yeah. And then I'd go for Fiona
- 1:32:41O'Keefe. She'll be well over there.
- 1:32:43I nearly back her to get top five.
- 1:32:46She'll just hang in. She was the one who hang in and
- 1:32:49put home on in. Boston as well.
- 1:32:51Or was it New York? Oh, it's it's a.
- 1:32:55Shame and Khalif Thackery isn't. Like doing this in top shape
- 1:32:59because we could have had Great Britain versus Ireland versus
- 1:33:03Australia because guys, you're not putting a 19 year old from
- 1:33:08a. Highland up against ten women.
- 1:33:12That's not fair. How?
- 1:33:16Far up the list. Can is he finish?
- 1:33:18That's what I'm excited to. See, like it's been, it feels
- 1:33:20like in, in his ease terms, it's been a while since she's raced
- 1:33:24and she's been quietly working away.
- 1:33:27I've watched a couple of their Youtubes, to be fair, in the
- 1:33:29past few weeks especially, Well, in the past week or so, I was
- 1:33:33getting excited for Boston. So she started to pump better
- 1:33:36content out, sort of have engaged.
- 1:33:39And yeah, she's been doing these long runs with, I don't know how
- 1:33:43it's like 36 K maybe or something.
- 1:33:46And it's just this rolling, rolling hills.
- 1:33:49And it's one of them where she runs downhill for like 8K or
- 1:33:53something. So straight away it's like 3-4
- 1:33:56minute case or 340 fives, like just straight into it.
- 1:33:59And you see the, the elevation map on Strava is literally just
- 1:34:04like room. And then she does it out and
- 1:34:06back. So then it finishes with the
- 1:34:08massive uphill. And yeah, whoever puts their
- 1:34:12content together, it's it's a good the good little watches
- 1:34:16like to be fair, I know kind of like Clayton Young's, the gold
- 1:34:19standard and is eases of like a similar template, but not as
- 1:34:24heavily like Clayton Young's all about like dramatizing it as
- 1:34:28well as knee, whereas disease is just a bit more real.
- 1:34:30Like you see a in in the shop day-to-day and stuff.
- 1:34:34So they're a good watch. She's what listed here 1-2,
- 1:34:38three 16th on the women's. Kind of like.
- 1:34:43PBS list and you know how Boston goes.
- 1:34:48I think she gets a PB. No pressure, is he?
- 1:34:50But I think. She gets a PB and she had a
- 1:34:54really good blocker. Those hills though, I think
- 1:34:58what? Is it whether they come like 20?
- 1:35:008K or something? Is it the mutant or something?
- 1:35:03I think Newton Hills or. Yeah.
- 1:35:07Is heartbreak like the first? One that's like early or.
- 1:35:09Is that is that towards the end? That's why they call it
- 1:35:12heartbreak looking at this. Field like, it's like in the
- 1:35:19women's field, it's a potential that there's quite a large
- 1:35:22women's pack at least through halfway, Hey, like that.
- 1:35:28Shower like the women. Yeah, I feel like she battered.
- 1:35:30The women's. Yeah, and she'll like blow the
- 1:35:32doors off everyone late likely, but.
- 1:35:36Like even the top Ethiopian Adisa, like she ran in Osaka
- 1:35:42earlier in the year, ran 219 high, which is a good run, but
- 1:35:47it's not, you know, it's not otherworldly, right?
- 1:35:50So like everyone else is probably sitting in waiting for
- 1:35:52it to break up. So hopefully Izzy's in there and
- 1:35:58has a, has a, has a good race, Izzy Obi running.
- 1:36:03With Brady. That's right.
- 1:36:06He's yeah. Well, hopefully she drops him.
- 1:36:09Well, no, When they. Don't they start at different?
- 1:36:12Times, OH. Yeah, separate fields.
- 1:36:14Isn't it? Yeah.
- 1:36:16Right. He's not that fit, is he?
- 1:36:20He's been coming back. For a while like and he's been
- 1:36:22putting the mileage. In How did your man get?
- 1:36:27On in Canberra, dear. God, what's Cokes?
- 1:36:29How did he get on? Oh, he posted.
- 1:36:32Time for me to for me to chase. On Sunday I got 1/2.
- 1:36:38I didn't say that. Holding a phone, Yeah.
- 1:36:42Just fighters, always. Yeah, well, nice one.
- 1:36:47That concludes the running news. YouTube Diaries are kind of
- 1:36:51touched on it there. I was going to talk about Izzy's
- 1:36:53anyway. I don't know.
- 1:36:54I have another one up my sleeve. Did did you guys have anything
- 1:36:57you wanted to say about Izzy's? Have you been following or
- 1:37:00anything or should I roll into the next one?
- 1:37:04I've been following this is she's.
- 1:37:05Got a very nice Jeep now. She got the perfect setup with
- 1:37:08that sort of gym. What was it run as one gym
- 1:37:12thing? And yeah, seems like she's been
- 1:37:15getting in the work in. I just love the community that
- 1:37:17looks like they've just, it's sort of like the front runner
- 1:37:19thing. The community they have in Perth
- 1:37:22is sort of like in Adelaide as well, just like the coffee shop
- 1:37:26and just don't know. It just seems like a really good
- 1:37:29vibe, like some turn out at them group runs on a Saturday and
- 1:37:33like she knows everyone. It's like Ralph knows everyone.
- 1:37:37Yeah. Not a bad setup for them.
- 1:37:39Be having the coaching. Business because you see as
- 1:37:43she's doing the long run, everyone she runs past she's
- 1:37:47like hello so and so because they've all been out doing the
- 1:37:51same run and they're literally all part of runners One It's the
- 1:37:57it's what happens in there small cities, big towns, Perth and
- 1:38:01Adelaide, everyone knows each other.
- 1:38:03I guess it's like when I rock up to a shot run on a Wednesday.
- 1:38:07Oh, and everyone's like, oh, Ryan, how are you?
- 1:38:11Like, you know, it's the celebrity.
- 1:38:14Can you sign my hat? You know, the other week
- 1:38:18someone. Raff was like.
- 1:38:20Asking someone to come, like seeing if they fancy coming down
- 1:38:23to training or something. And they kind of like said, Oh
- 1:38:26yeah, like here are you kind of thing.
- 1:38:29And he was like, he needs to learn, doesn't he?
- 1:38:35Well, yeah, the the other. YouTube Diaries I wanted to
- 1:38:37mention. Was I watched Josh Kerr's video
- 1:38:39from the world Champs and you know, the other week we said his
- 1:38:43like Instagram content during that period was very good.
- 1:38:46His world champs video. I know in the past I've kind of,
- 1:38:50I feel like he's Max Verstappen to me.
- 1:38:52Like I didn't like him at 1st and now I've come round he's
- 1:38:56he's opened the door and he's welcomed me in.
- 1:38:58He's not he doesn't have like the charisma and like the humor
- 1:39:02that everyone else does. But something about is like
- 1:39:05directness. Was it the fact that he laughs
- 1:39:09at your? Jokes as well, right?
- 1:39:11Oh well, the this is. This was the.
- 1:39:15Saving that for the No Agenda show, but we did uncover some
- 1:39:20DMS between Ryan Greenwood's personal Instagram accounts and
- 1:39:26Josh Kerr back in Because I was list.
- 1:39:30That's what was listening to the Let's Run boys and they were
- 1:39:33talking about Brooke shoes with Josh.
- 1:39:35They interviewed them and then something just pinged in my
- 1:39:38brain. I was like, I've spoken about
- 1:39:40Brooke shoes to Josh Kerr before.
- 1:39:44He replied a couple of times. He was giving me like decent
- 1:39:49bits back. To be fair, this is back in the
- 1:39:52day 2021 October. So he just got his the guest.
- 1:39:58Silver. Tokyo.
- 1:40:00Yeah, in 2021. Silver.
- 1:40:02Silver. Remember, Nagus nearly ran him.
- 1:40:05Ran over. The top of him hacker got gone.
- 1:40:08Oh no, yeah, bronze, because on the back of my first.
- 1:40:10Message I've said don't think I could send this message.
- 1:40:13This is the this is the content I'm saving.
- 1:40:15But anyway, I don't think I won't give the whole thing don't
- 1:40:19think I could send this message without saying Congrats on the
- 1:40:21bronze medal. So there you go and yeah, he's
- 1:40:25he's given me his Brooks rotation back in 2021.
- 1:40:31I feel like he's just lacking. That bit of.
- 1:40:33I don't know that, like, I think was the same thing Cole was on
- 1:40:36about his double trouble. Like, I feel like he's just
- 1:40:39lacking that bit of weirdness that, like, the other guys have
- 1:40:43to make them so lovable. Yeah.
- 1:40:46You know what, though? He has got like decent banter.
- 1:40:48Because there was a bit on the video where the bit I love is
- 1:40:53the coaching calls, you know, where like pre race he rings.
- 1:40:56Danny Mackey is coach and he's got that Julian, the guy with
- 1:40:59the longer hair who does like the sessions with him next to
- 1:41:02him. And they've got the phone on
- 1:41:04speaker and it's it's incredible the way they do it.
- 1:41:08They like theorize how the race might play out, like who's the
- 1:41:11major player, kind of like what the pace might be, whose moves I
- 1:41:15need to cover. And when you listen or watch it
- 1:41:20in hindsight, knowing how the race when the fact that they're
- 1:41:23able to like forecast exactly what's going to happen is crazy.
- 1:41:27It's not that crazy when you think about it, but I wonder if
- 1:41:31all the other guys in the race are going into such detail in
- 1:41:34planning. And I don't quite think that.
- 1:41:37I do think that's maybe something he has over the
- 1:41:39others, whether that's just what he wants everyone to believe,
- 1:41:43that he has like this extreme level of detail.
- 1:41:46But I think it's clear that he does.
- 1:41:48And then at the end of the call, he goes he the guy behind the
- 1:41:55camera. What's his name?
- 1:41:56Westie, he says like. How's the race going to play
- 1:41:58out, Josh? And then he kind of says, I'm
- 1:42:01going to sit in first lap. Then I'll come round on the
- 1:42:03straight says how he sees it going anyway.
- 1:42:06And then he goes and then I'll like obviously I'll win and I'll
- 1:42:10hit them with the like the and for the listeners, this he don't
- 1:42:15like the sleeping emoji thing. So that was all pre planned that
- 1:42:18he was going to do that as he as he came over the line, which is
- 1:42:22is good in fairness, that's with it the.
- 1:42:26Talking about people. With the eccentric behaviour,
- 1:42:29have you seen any Jacob recently?
- 1:42:33Some of his like content of him like cross track, has he
- 1:42:35published that comeback 1. I saw some stuff on.
- 1:42:40Instagram or was it a teaser? Yeah, a teaser and.
- 1:42:44I feel like he has that. That part down, it feels like a
- 1:42:51little bit wacky. Yeah, that UK guy does his
- 1:42:57videos, isn't it? What's his name?
- 1:42:58He used to do that podcast with Ben Felton and Callum Elson.
- 1:43:02Or no, who was that? Yeah, it's Westie or something,
- 1:43:07I don't know what his first. Name is though.
- 1:43:10Yeah, anyway, it's good content as well.
- 1:43:12Because that's one of the best. Parts of every time he always.
- 1:43:15Does a video for his races and usually it was like on the track
- 1:43:18circuit last year. And this Westie guy, he's not
- 1:43:22exactly in shape, but he's clearly got like some talents
- 1:43:26from back in the day as a junior or something.
- 1:43:28Because every time when they're doing their like shake out meat,
- 1:43:32Josh gets on his phone on the stopwatch and his comment
- 1:43:37commenting over this is cameraman trying to run a 62nd
- 1:43:41400. And it was kind of like a
- 1:43:44running joke all the way throughout the year.
- 1:43:46Like he was getting closer and closer to hit in 60 seconds.
- 1:43:50And this guy is obviously like absolutely on his ass
- 1:43:52afterwards. And then for this meet at the
- 1:43:57world indoors, because the issues in the state of the warm
- 1:44:01up track, what they happen to use, it was like a random park
- 1:44:04with like kids playing fussy or one of the straights and there
- 1:44:07was like weeds everywhere. But they couldn't.
- 1:44:13The track was like 300 meters or something that was completely
- 1:44:16random. So they had this westy try and
- 1:44:18run instead of a 62nd 400. It was a sub six minute mile,
- 1:44:23unlike the warm up blue, and he was like almost spewing his guts
- 1:44:28up at the end. He comes home in like 603 and
- 1:44:31he's going on. Endurance is so much harder than
- 1:44:33Sprint and I'm never doing this again.
- 1:44:36And like Josh is just pissing himself with the microphone.
- 1:44:40It's a good watch, Dean, do you know that?
- 1:44:44Real you sent Yeah, Hendricking Britain comments.
- 1:44:51All right, This is the Jacob coming back cross training rail.
- 1:44:55He says. I've heard rumours about what
- 1:44:58Jacob's comeback is going to look like.
- 1:45:00Everyone will be shocked. Brackets.
- 1:45:02He's growing a mustache. And then one lad commented at in
- 1:45:08the Britain Henrik. He's trying to become uglier
- 1:45:10like you question Ralph, like your mother.
- 1:45:17That's some real so good. I did dive into the comments on.
- 1:45:20It did you see what? Came up first.
- 1:45:22Did it come up first for you? Easy double.
- 1:45:26Easy double with the with. The love heart.
- 1:45:29Who's done that? Yeah.
- 1:45:33I don't. Know well if if Hemrick's
- 1:45:36listening. You, you've got Adm to respond
- 1:45:38to as well. Trying to tear your brother up
- 1:45:40me. Double trouble though, and
- 1:45:42you've got one to finish this off.
- 1:45:45I should just mention anymore just on YouTube Diaries.
- 1:45:49Australian. Athletics or Athletics
- 1:45:51Australia, whatever is the right Australian athletics I think
- 1:45:54nowadays. But they like cut up and put
- 1:45:57all, you know how when they have all those streams and you have
- 1:45:59to jump on Channel 7 and it's hard to find them.
- 1:46:02They cut up all of the finals and posted them within a day of
- 1:46:05the races. I just think like, how useful is
- 1:46:10that? But why can't all my national
- 1:46:12championships and other, you know, major events putting on
- 1:46:16these races just edit, edit these and post them on YouTube
- 1:46:20for people to watch? So it was really good.
- 1:46:24And for people that can't catch everything live, like it's hard
- 1:46:27to find. So I thought it was well played
- 1:46:30by then. Yeah, agree.
- 1:46:34Good. Show so we leave double.
- 1:46:36Trouble happy enough as it is? Yeah, you don't want.
- 1:46:41To go that one the. Fifth one you had.
- 1:46:44Written down leaves that alive. Wait, I kind of lost it.
- 1:46:48Give me a SEC. That was actually mine.
- 1:46:51You don't. Want to go at that?
- 1:46:53Right. No, I'm.
- 1:46:54I'm always piping off nowadays I have to.
- 1:46:57Settle down for a bit. All right?
- 1:46:59The fifth one, Yeah. You've highlighted it.
- 1:47:04I highlighted it. Oh, did you like on then?
- 1:47:12I don't know. What they are, it's been built
- 1:47:13up too much already. You know hoots.
- 1:47:16Someone ran one the other week and.
- 1:47:18That's what brought it to my mind.
- 1:47:20But anyway, all comers records. So you have caught course
- 1:47:24records. The person who's run the fastest
- 1:47:27time ever on a course, National Records, says what it is on the
- 1:47:3110. And then it was spoken about so
- 1:47:34much over the past couple of years as an all comers record.
- 1:47:38I didn't actually know what it was when Cam ran 3. 30 at Murray
- 1:47:43plot Yeah, maybe that's what brought it to the forefront of
- 1:47:46my mind and. Then a jog my memory that there
- 1:47:49was all this chatter about the half.
- 1:47:52Was it 1/2 marathon? All comers record What?
- 1:47:56What was that? What's the guy called who had
- 1:47:58that for a while? The happy like, yeah.
- 1:48:02And and the end up beating it. Didn't anyway the.
- 1:48:04Double trouble is I don't I think all comers records are the
- 1:48:09only thing in Australia or do other countries have them?
- 1:48:13But this just seem a bit stupid. Just have the national record
- 1:48:18and have the course record and don't throw some in between
- 1:48:21record and here we have to set the scene for what they are.
- 1:48:25Like it's the fastest. Let's say you have Australian
- 1:48:28all comers and then all comers. So the fastest time by an Aussie
- 1:48:33in Australia or the fastest time ever run in Australia.
- 1:48:38Now see, that just further complicates it, yeah.
- 1:48:42And so the is that not what a national?
- 1:48:44Record is now because a national.
- 1:48:46Record could be run by an Australian.
- 1:48:48Anywhere whereas an Australian all comers record is the fastest
- 1:48:52time an Australian has run. It's to do with Australia, in
- 1:48:56Australia. That's fucking pretty.
- 1:49:00Irrelevant, isn't it? Well, it might contextualize.
- 1:49:04So for example. When Cam ran that two weeks ago,
- 1:49:07the people that went down to the track, if you're a set marketing
- 1:49:11person, you would be like of all the events ever showcased in
- 1:49:15Australia, no one has ever seen over 1500 meter men's race run
- 1:49:20like that. No one's ever seen someone go
- 1:49:22that fast in Australian history. In this country, that's what
- 1:49:27it's trying to. That's fair enough, actually.
- 1:49:32So that's what I was going. To buy I think I'm.
- 1:49:34Yeah, I'm on board. Yeah, I like it.
- 1:49:37Like, yeah, right. Because what if, like, Josh Kerr
- 1:49:44comes? Over or something next year runs
- 1:49:46328 then Josh Kerr. Do you think on his CVS put an
- 1:49:50Australian all comers record? No, but it's not necessarily for
- 1:49:55him. It's much I.
- 1:49:56Think it's a for. For the audience to try and
- 1:49:58contextualise just how far some of these races are, like I don't
- 1:50:01even mind. I think I saw when the men's 5K
- 1:50:05was on, I think the championship record was down the bottom and
- 1:50:08it was like 1308 and the guys ran 1311.
- 1:50:11Like it just and it just jugged my mind.
- 1:50:14I'm like, wow, someone that race was we were talking about it,
- 1:50:17the guys running 13111313, we're like that's elite.
- 1:50:21But someone actually has run an Australian championship at least
- 1:50:24if that's to go by quicker than that makes you go fuck, that's a
- 1:50:28good run. Yeah, whatever this is.
- 1:50:34Very, very prestigious records. In my opinion, the.
- 1:50:41I'm pretty sure Jess Stenson. Ran the Australian All Comers
- 1:50:46women's marathon record over in Perth and a footpath the other
- 1:50:51year, so we've got to hold on to that.
- 1:50:54So then are there also state versions?
- 1:50:58Of these all comers records, there possibly is, so you may be
- 1:51:02the. Holder of a few state WA.
- 1:51:04All comers doubt it. It's not a You could have one
- 1:51:10for bridges. At the end of next week.
- 1:51:14British all come out in. Perth.
- 1:51:17For bridges. Over the new bridges.
- 1:51:22Which only. Got built a year ago.
- 1:51:25Yeah, exactly. We'll find some way to.
- 1:51:27Jazz it up anyway. I'll need to, right?
- 1:51:32Thanks, fellas. We'll do it all again next week.
- 1:51:37Or if you part the easy double club.
- 1:51:38We'll do it all again later in the week on the No Agenda Show.
- 1:51:41I'll see you there. Take back, boys.
