- 0:20Speaker 1: out of Omaha. How you doing there, sir?
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'm good, John. How about yourself?
- 0:24Speaker 3: I am also good.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We're excited to have you in Sioux Falls this week,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and you're rolling up from the Omaha area. Is that
- 0:29Speaker 1: where you're originally from, Addy, or where are you from?
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm from all over the place. I was born and
- 0:33Speaker 2: raised in Arizona. and then started stand-up in Little Rock,
- 0:37Speaker 2: Arkansas about five years ago, and then came to Omaha
- 0:41Speaker 2: a little over three years ago to move on with
- 0:44Speaker 2: the next stage of comedy.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Very nice.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And you do a fun podcast from Omaha, and you
- 0:50Speaker 1: do a bunch of comedy in Omaha and all over
- 0:53Speaker 1: the Midwest, and we're excited to have you in Sioux
- 0:55Speaker 1: Falls this week.
- 0:57Speaker 3: And have you been to Sioux Falls to do comedy before, Eddie?
- 0:59Speaker 2: No, no. I believe this will be the most north
- 1:01Speaker 2: I've ever gone in the country when I get to
- 1:03Speaker 2: Sioux Falls.
- 1:04Speaker 3: That is awesome.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Well, we are excited to have you at Billy Frogs
- 1:07Speaker 1: tonight in Sioux Falls and then tomorrow night at the
- 1:10Speaker 1: Grain Bin and a couple of different shows, a couple
- 1:12Speaker 1: of different opportunities for people to see Addy Herman on
- 1:15Speaker 1: stage doing his thing. And, Addy, let's talk about your
- 1:18Speaker 1: style of humor. How would you describe what you do
- 1:21Speaker 1: on stage as a stand-up comic?
- 1:22Speaker 2: Well, I guess it depends which one of my ex-girlfriends
- 1:25Speaker 2: you talk to. I've had my style described to me
- 1:30Speaker 2: as relentless aggression before. I don't know if that's a
- 1:33Speaker 2: good thing or not. But I like to engage the audience.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I'm not too much of a crowd work person, per se.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I'm not going to pick on people in the front
- 1:42Speaker 2: row unless they want to be picked on. But really,
- 1:45Speaker 2: I just like to tell jokes. I think that's the
- 1:47Speaker 2: whole reason I got into this, to make people laugh.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And is there a certain comic that you look up
- 1:52Speaker 1: to and go, man, I think this comic is the funniest,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and maybe that's the one that I could be compared
- 1:56Speaker 1: to the most?
- 1:57Speaker 3: Or is there not really a... A comic author that's
- 2:00Speaker 3: kind of like an Andy Herman.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I would say Living would probably be like a Dennis Miller.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I really enjoyed his stuff early in my comedic shaping.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And then, I mean, Robert Schimmel, of course, he's passed
- 2:13Speaker 2: on years ago. But he's one of those that I really,
- 2:17Speaker 2: really studied when I was writing.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I love that.
- 2:20Speaker 2: And I like his stuff.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Well, I am excited.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Oh, you know who he is.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And I'm excited to see you tonight because here's the thing.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I've not had a chance to see you in person.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I've seen some videos. I know several people who've worked
- 2:31Speaker 1: with you and your reputation precedes you. People that know you,
- 2:37Speaker 1: love you. So I'm excited to see you tonight and
- 2:39Speaker 1: tomorrow night. And here's the thing that's interesting. I have
- 2:41Speaker 1: people that go, okay, I don't understand why you're having
- 2:44Speaker 1: some of these comics on Thursday night for a free show.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And then on a Friday night, I got to buy
- 2:49Speaker 1: a ticket. Like, who's going to buy a ticket on
- 2:51Speaker 1: Friday when I could just go see him on Thursday?
- 2:53Speaker 1: And I'm like, here's the thing. Come and see him
- 2:54Speaker 1: on Thursday then. Some people, Thursday works. For some people,
- 2:58Speaker 1: Friday works. So we're also, here's the other thing that's cool.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So many times, somebody will come to the show on
- 3:04Speaker 1: Thursday night at Billy Frog's. and they'll see a comic there,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and then they'll tell their friends how great that comic was,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and then they can go together on Friday. So come
- 3:13Speaker 1: out tonight, get a preview tonight, and then bring your
- 3:15Speaker 1: friends tomorrow night. And you can also win tickets for
- 3:18Speaker 1: tomorrow night. So even if you say, hey, I don't
- 3:21Speaker 1: want to buy a ticket, well, better register to win
- 3:23Speaker 1: because I give away some tickets too. But I'm just
- 3:25Speaker 1: excited to have more opportunity for comedy in Sioux Falls,
- 3:28Speaker 1: South Dakota. And again, we had one of your coworkers
- 3:33Speaker 1: last week on the podcast with you, Clem Jamison. And
- 3:36Speaker 1: we had very, very happy folks that had a chance
- 3:39Speaker 1: to see Clem last Friday. It sounds like he did
- 3:41Speaker 1: a great job.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Clem is one of my favorite people to
- 3:44Speaker 2: work with. We've been friends for years and colleagues for
- 3:48Speaker 2: about the same. And just watching him develop has been
- 3:51Speaker 2: a real treat. And I'm excited to see the folks tonight.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to it.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Me too.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Again, tonight at 730 at Billy Frog's. And I tell
- 3:59Speaker 1: people all the time, get there early. So you can
- 4:02Speaker 1: get a good seat because there's seating is limited at
- 4:05Speaker 1: Billy Frogs. That's the other difference between Billy Frogs and
- 4:07Speaker 1: the grain bin. There's a lot more seating at the
- 4:09Speaker 1: grain bin, but tonight limited seating. So get there early,
- 4:12Speaker 1: come early, have lunch or not lunch, have dinner.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Oh, you can have lunch. That would be getting there
- 4:16Speaker 3: very early.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Sure. Hang out in the parking lot.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Come tonight.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Have your, have your dinner there at like seven o'clock.
- 4:23Speaker 1: The show starts promptly at seven 30. And then again, tomorrow,
- 4:26Speaker 1: same thing. Doors open at seven o'clock on Friday and,
- 4:28Speaker 1: And the show starts at 7.30. And then tomorrow night,
- 4:32Speaker 1: after the show, there's a thing called the Late Night
- 4:34Speaker 1: Open Mic. And you can stick around for that as well.
- 4:36Speaker 1: That's been a whole lot of fun. And that's an
- 4:38Speaker 1: opportunity for some comics to try new material. But also,
- 4:41Speaker 1: we've had so many people, Addie, that are trying comedy
- 4:44Speaker 1: for the first time where they're like, you know, I've
- 4:45Speaker 1: always wanted to do this. And I'm going to get
- 4:47Speaker 1: up and try it. And they've been doing that on
- 4:49Speaker 1: the late night open mic. Do you get out and
- 4:51Speaker 1: do open mics much anymore, Andy?
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I try to as much as possible. I've gotten
- 4:56Speaker 2: to this point now to where I'm running a lot
- 4:58Speaker 2: of local shows to where I host quite a bit.
- 5:03Speaker 2: But going to an open mic is always important because
- 5:06Speaker 2: you want to get a fresh perspective on either new
- 5:10Speaker 2: stuff or stuff that you've worked out before.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And the thing that I like about an open mic
- 5:14Speaker 1: is watching the progression of a joke. So I'll have
- 5:17Speaker 1: a comic, they'll get up and they'll tell a joke
- 5:19Speaker 1: and it's funny. But then the next week they change
- 5:22Speaker 1: it 20% and it's maybe 50% funnier. And then the
- 5:25Speaker 1: next week they change it like another 20% and now
- 5:28Speaker 1: it's like 100% funnier. And I just think it's really
- 5:30Speaker 1: cool to see the evolution of that joke go from
- 5:33Speaker 1: this to this to this. And, you know, that's what
- 5:35Speaker 1: an open mic is for. and I love this late-night
- 5:38Speaker 1: open mic. It's just got a different feel than a
- 5:40Speaker 1: lot of other open mics because a lot of the
- 5:42Speaker 1: time we have an audience there too because a lot
- 5:44Speaker 1: of people stick around.
- 5:45Speaker 3: They're like, oh, okay, well, let's just stay and watch
- 5:47Speaker 3: this next thing as well.
- 5:48Speaker 1: So if you have the opportunity, Addy, to stick around
- 5:51Speaker 1: tomorrow night and be a part of that, we'd love
- 5:53Speaker 1: for you to do that as well.
- 5:54Speaker 3: You don't have to, but if you want to, you can.
- 5:56Speaker 2: You know, John, you talked me into it. I think
- 5:58Speaker 2: I will. All right.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Well, I will see you tonight and tomorrow night. Thank
- 6:01Speaker 1: you for taking the time to chat, man.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Of course. See you tonight.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Again, Addy Herman. He's a very, very funny comic from
- 6:06Speaker 1: the Omaha, Nebraska area. He'll be rolling up tonight at
- 6:09Speaker 1: Billy Frog's 730 show. Tomorrow night at the Grain Bin,
- 6:13Speaker 1: 730 show. You can find all of the details and
- 6:16Speaker 1: you can win a pair of tickets for tomorrow night
- 6:18Speaker 1: at SiouxFallsComedy.com.
