- 0:55SPEAKER_17: I hate being sick.
- 0:57SPEAKER_17: Six socks.
- 0:58SPEAKER_17: Six socks.
- 0:59SPEAKER_17: Say that ten times fast.
- 1:00SPEAKER_17: Six toxic, six tock, six socks, six toc, six socks.
- 1:04SPEAKER_10: Uh, so yeah.
- 1:06SPEAKER_10: If you hear me doing this a lot, that's just me.
- 1:08SPEAKER_10: You're doing cocaine.
- 1:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's exactly what it is.
- 1:12SPEAKER_10: Um our uh, what'd you say, four-year?
- 1:15SPEAKER_10: Five year five years.
- 1:16SPEAKER_10: Five year anniversary is tomorrow.
- 1:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:18SPEAKER_10: So we're recording this on Tuesday, the 8th.
- 1:21SPEAKER_10: Correct.
- 1:22SPEAKER_10: So our first podcast dropped five years ago on April 9th.
- 1:26SPEAKER_14: Yeah, April 9th, 2020.
- 1:28SPEAKER_14: 2020.
- 1:29SPEAKER_14: One month into the pandemic.
- 1:32SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:33SPEAKER_10: That's just crazy to think about.
- 1:34SPEAKER_14: I know.
- 1:36SPEAKER_14: Uh yeah, you think about it.
- 1:38SPEAKER_14: If it wasn't for the pandemic, we would never have started a podcast.
- 1:42SPEAKER_10: This is true.
- 1:43SPEAKER_14: We would have just kept on doing whatever we were doing.
- 1:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:47SPEAKER_14: Blah da-de-blah.
- 1:48SPEAKER_10: And those 36 listeners, their lives would not have been enriched.
- 1:51SPEAKER_14: And they're still not.
- 1:53SPEAKER_10: I think we should uh we should write a song.
- 1:58SPEAKER_14: All right.
- 1:59SPEAKER_14: About our five anniversary.
- 2:02SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 2:05SPEAKER_10: Whoops.
- 2:19SPEAKER_16: Five years ago.
- 2:25SPEAKER_16: Hanging out in the building somewhere.
- 2:31SPEAKER_16: One of them said, Hey Doug, let's start a podcast, and Doug went.
- 2:39SPEAKER_16: What's a podcast?
- 2:43SPEAKER_16: He said, Well, it's like that radio show we used to do.
- 2:49SPEAKER_16: Except it's on the interwebs and not over radio.
- 2:57SPEAKER_16: And I said, Well, that sounds like a good plan.
- 3:02SPEAKER_16: Where are we gonna do it?
- 3:04SPEAKER_16: He said, in my fun dungeon basement.
- 3:32SPEAKER_16: Yeah, it's awesome.
- 3:36SPEAKER_14: There we go.
- 3:37SPEAKER_14: That is the Brian O'Brien and Doug five year podcast.
- 3:46SPEAKER_14: That's enough.
- 3:47SPEAKER_14: That's enough of that's enough adulation for you.
- 3:52SPEAKER_10: Alright, so what's happened since our last podcast?
- 3:54SPEAKER_10: Well, uh, let's see.
- 3:56SPEAKER_10: Last Saturday, I went down to Holton and Yeah, you played in uh you didn't play.
- 4:01SPEAKER_10: I didn't play, no.
- 4:02SPEAKER_10: I was in uh they have this thing called Modern Band.
- 4:05SPEAKER_10: Have I we talked about this at all?
- 4:07SPEAKER_14: We've mentioned it, but we never really went in depth about it.
- 4:09SPEAKER_10: I'm I'm I'm trying to start one at my school.
- 4:12SPEAKER_10: Several schools up here in University County have have it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_10: Uh especially Holton.
- 4:17SPEAKER_10: Holton has like five or six.
- 4:19SPEAKER_14: Well, that's because they have Kevin Maney.
- 4:20SPEAKER_14: This is true.
- 4:21SPEAKER_14: And and the last name fits because that dude is crazy.
- 4:24SPEAKER_10: I have to tell you about what he did for these kids.
- 4:27SPEAKER_10: And I think he's done it every year uh that they've had this.
- 4:30SPEAKER_10: Um what it is basically is uh band is band in high school has a stigma.
- 4:40SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 4:40SPEAKER_10: Well, yeah, it's not everybody wants to play trumpet or saxophone or whatever.
- 4:45SPEAKER_10: So to reach those kids that maybe want to do music but not play in the band.
- 4:53SPEAKER_14: Play a trumpet or trombone or something.
- 4:55SPEAKER_10: Uh this idea of modern band is started.
- 4:58SPEAKER_10: So so they they have these these little ensembles uh within each modern band class.
- 5:07SPEAKER_10: Uh a band, basically.
- 5:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 5:09SPEAKER_10: And they learn cover songs.
- 5:11SPEAKER_10: Like they learn how to play guitar, they learn how to play bass, they learn how to play drums if they don't already know.
- 5:16SPEAKER_10: And they just work and work all through the year on learning these songs, maybe even writing their own songs.
- 5:23SPEAKER_10: Uh and then at the end of the year, which was last Saturday, not the end of the year, but you know, in the end of that year.
- 5:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, the end of the towards the end of the year.
- 5:31SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 5:32SPEAKER_10: There's a big concert.
- 5:33SPEAKER_10: And so this was the first state modern band festival.
- 5:40SPEAKER_10: So it wasn't a competition, but it was you you could have modern bands from all over the state come to Holton and take part.
- 5:48SPEAKER_10: Uh it may basically was just bands from Arusta County.
- 5:52SPEAKER_10: There were a couple that that were downstate that were going to come, but whether Well, they can't find their way up here.
- 5:58SPEAKER_14: That's true.
- 5:59SPEAKER_14: They're like, there's nothing north of Bangor.
- 6:02SPEAKER_14: Why why where Holton?
- 6:04SPEAKER_14: Is that part of Canada?
- 6:05SPEAKER_14: Do we need a passport?
- 6:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:07SPEAKER_10: So, yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_10: So uh so we got a bunch of the modern bands together and I did the guitar clinic, which my workshop was essentially what they wanted me to do.
- 6:17SPEAKER_14: Why did you just snort?
- 6:18SPEAKER_14: Was that part of your cold, or were you just like That was part of my cold?
- 6:21SPEAKER_14: I was because it sounded like I did a guitar clinic.
- 6:24SPEAKER_14: That was dumb.
- 6:25SPEAKER_18: You know, like I don't even know when I'd play guitar.
- 6:29SPEAKER_18: I told you to prepare because that But it was it was just the timing because you were just like, Yeah, I did the guitar clinic.
- 6:39SPEAKER_16: I mean it was just classic, that was just like perfect.
- 6:43SPEAKER_10: So um what they wanted me to do was have the because in eight in each workshop I had f uh four workshops, four forty-minute workshops.
- 6:51SPEAKER_17: Is this at the festival?
- 6:52SPEAKER_17: This is at the festival.
- 6:53SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 6:54SPEAKER_10: Um and they wanted uh to have the bands play through their songs, they actually played two songs, and have me give the guitar players tips, you know.
- 7:04SPEAKER_14: Okay, so like you suck, you're okay, you well.
- 7:08SPEAKER_10: Here's the thing, and there were uh there was a you know, after one of these festivals is there's always uh a way to uh kind of see what could be done better.
- 7:19SPEAKER_10: And we we actually did that.
- 7:21SPEAKER_10: So because what would happen is I'd get through all of the bands songs, and then I would uh reserve time at the end for them to ask me guitar questions.
- 7:30SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 7:30SPEAKER_10: But by the time they got through their songs, there was no time at the end.
- 7:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 7:35SPEAKER_10: So that needs to be changed or s or adjusted to a little more time for it.
- 7:41SPEAKER_10: Either more time or um maybe not play the whole song.
- 7:44SPEAKER_10: Maybe just maybe just have the guitar players there and you know.
- 7:50SPEAKER_14: Oh, you had the whole band.
- 7:51SPEAKER_14: Oh, yeah, so that doesn't make any sense.
- 7:52SPEAKER_14: And the whole band.
- 7:53SPEAKER_14: It was just about if it's just about guitar, yeah, you know.
- 7:55SPEAKER_10: And the whole band went to every workshop.
- 7:57SPEAKER_10: The whole band went to the bass workshop.
- 7:58SPEAKER_10: The whole band went to the and I say it should be individuals.
- 8:01SPEAKER_14: Like guitar players go to this one, you know, bass players go to this one.
- 8:04SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 8:04SPEAKER_14: And not only not only that all the dr all the drummers go to the kindergarten room, start eating crayons, you know.
- 8:09SPEAKER_14: So there we go.
- 8:10SPEAKER_10: So uh not only that, uh maybe based on ability, and here's the reason I say that.
- 8:19SPEAKER_10: One of the very first bands that I had in my first workshop was really tight and really good.
- 8:26SPEAKER_10: Uh the uh lead singer had a lot of charisma.
- 8:29SPEAKER_10: You you could tell that they were an actual band.
- 8:32SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 8:32SPEAKER_10: They play outside the school.
- 8:34SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 8:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:34SPEAKER_10: Um they were playing like a song by Chevelle.
- 8:37SPEAKER_10: Uh really.
- 8:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:38SPEAKER_10: And then uh Mastodon.
- 8:40SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 8:40SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:41SPEAKER_10: Really?
- 8:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:42SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 8:42SPEAKER_10: And so uh so they went and I didn't really have a whole lot to tell them.
- 8:48SPEAKER_14: And they're like, you guys are pretty good.
- 8:50SPEAKER_10: I said basically, I said, you know, during the rhythm parts, you're you're you're playing the same thing, but maybe switch it up.
- 8:56SPEAKER_10: Maybe you play the rhythm part and you add to it and maybe add some color.
- 8:59SPEAKER_10: You know, stupid comments like that.
- 9:01SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 9:02SPEAKER_10: And so, but then the the other bands are sitting there waiting to to play and they're seeing this really good band.
- 9:09SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_10: And they get up there and they were all great.
- 9:13SPEAKER_10: I'm not saying they weren't uh intimidation.
- 9:18SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I mean, yeah, there's there's different levels of talent there.
- 9:21SPEAKER_10: So I don't know, maybe maybe that's something we can look at.
- 9:24SPEAKER_10: So this this band's been doing this and they play outside the school, so maybe they should be in like an advanced type thing.
- 9:30SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 9:30SPEAKER_10: I but anyway, so what Kevin Mania did is we put on this big rock concert at the end of the day.
- 9:38SPEAKER_10: Uh each band got up, we introduced them one by one, and there's the light show and the smoke show.
- 9:44SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I saw that.
- 9:45SPEAKER_14: I saw some pictures.
- 9:47SPEAKER_10: Cool, and these kids felt like rock stars.
- 9:49SPEAKER_10: It was it was a really, really cool thing to see.
- 9:52SPEAKER_10: Nice.
- 9:52SPEAKER_10: So um happy to be a part of that.
- 9:55SPEAKER_10: Uh and I think uh music in and of itself is in a good place in Rosley County.
- 10:01SPEAKER_10: Uh not necessarily I shouldn't say that.
- 10:05SPEAKER_10: Musicians are are in a good place because Well, musicians around here are good.
- 10:11SPEAKER_14: It's just that it's a musical wasteland.
- 10:13SPEAKER_10: That's just true.
- 10:14SPEAKER_14: And there's no place to showcase your talent, really.
- 10:17SPEAKER_10: I guess that's what I'm saying.
- 10:18SPEAKER_14: You know what I mean?
- 10:19SPEAKER_14: I mean there's there used to be, now there's not so much.
- 10:23SPEAKER_14: They're talking about And everybody but and the and the problem with that is nobody wants to hear nobody wants to hear Mastodon.
- 10:31SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 10:31SPEAKER_14: You know?
- 10:32SPEAKER_14: They want to hear this, Freeber, you know, they want to hear the classics like you're a freaking iPod.
- 10:39SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 10:40SPEAKER_14: So I mean it's it's frustrating as a as a band that has original music that would like to put it out there, but there's no place to do that.
- 10:48SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 10:48SPEAKER_10: So I and I guess also what I'm saying is it's not really uh and I don't want to say this because my school to a degree supports the music program, but not as much as the sports program.
- 11:00SPEAKER_14: Well it's like none of them support that music as far as yeah, I mean they're all that way.
- 11:05SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 11:05SPEAKER_14: So I mean sports are up here, music is you know in the basement somewhere.
- 11:09SPEAKER_10: And and statistics show that if you are involved in music, you excel in these other subjects.
- 11:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_10: It's crazy that they that's such a low priority.
- 11:17SPEAKER_10: But anyway, I digress.
- 11:19SPEAKER_10: Uh there's they're actually trying to cut one of the chorus programs in uh I think I don't know if it's Brewer.
- 11:25SPEAKER_10: Uh just cut it to like half time.
- 11:28SPEAKER_10: It's like so they can play more football?
- 11:30SPEAKER_10: I guess.
- 11:30SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 11:31SPEAKER_10: Why?
- 11:32SPEAKER_10: I I don't know.
- 11:34SPEAKER_10: Anyway.
- 11:35SPEAKER_10: Losers.
- 11:35SPEAKER_10: Uh hey Brewer.
- 11:37SPEAKER_10: You're full of losers.
- 11:39SPEAKER_10: I hope it's Brewer.
- 11:40SPEAKER_14: If that'd be funny, they'd be like, hey.
- 11:43SPEAKER_14: You're that podcast from Rooster County or Canada, we're not sure.
- 11:50SPEAKER_10: So uh so yeah, so I did that Saturday, and then uh that night we went back and we celebrated uh 50 years of our our buddy Sean.
- 11:58SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 11:59SPEAKER_10: That was fun.
- 12:00SPEAKER_10: It was supposed to be a surprise, but apparently it failed.
- 12:03SPEAKER_10: It failed.
- 12:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so but that's alright.
- 12:05SPEAKER_10: And we played um for his sister.
- 12:08SPEAKER_10: Basically.
- 12:09SPEAKER_10: Basically, yeah.
- 12:09SPEAKER_10: Um for Kim.
- 12:10SPEAKER_10: Sho she was very uh appreciative.
- 12:12SPEAKER_10: She was very appreciative.
- 12:13SPEAKER_10: Um I think there were people there that enjoyed us.
- 12:16SPEAKER_10: Um I think.
- 12:18SPEAKER_10: Um it's hard to tell.
- 12:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:21SPEAKER_14: We're background music, but this That one kid really liked us.
- 12:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 12:25SPEAKER_10: Well, sort of.
- 12:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 12:25SPEAKER_10: Are you gonna play again?
- 12:26SPEAKER_10: Are you gonna play again?
- 12:27SPEAKER_10: I don't want you to play again.
- 12:28SPEAKER_14: I don't want you to play again.
- 12:28SPEAKER_14: No more.
- 12:29SPEAKER_14: Hurts my ears.
- 12:29SPEAKER_14: Stop.
- 12:30SPEAKER_14: Please stop.
- 12:30SPEAKER_14: I'm like, wow, that's like a kind of uh, you know, a three-year-old's kind of hurting my feelings there.
- 12:37SPEAKER_10: We make fun, but um it we we wouldn't have been anywhere else.
- 12:41SPEAKER_10: Sean and his family have been good to us over the years.
- 12:43SPEAKER_14: Well, absolutely, I mean, uh well, we we were talking about it with Kim about like when we restarted the band, it was really because of the Fort Fairfield crowd.
- 12:54SPEAKER_14: It's true.
- 12:55SPEAKER_14: Not not not necessarily Sean, but it was they were friends of Friends of Friends.
- 13:01SPEAKER_14: Friends of friends.
- 13:02SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 13:03SPEAKER_14: We were playing in their garage, and Sean and Heather came and they were like, Oh my god, you gotta play for us, and you know, and then it just kind of took off.
- 13:10SPEAKER_14: And then Shane got w wind of it, and he's like, Hey, I want to come and play with you guys, and so boom.
- 13:16SPEAKER_10: And then the band got together, back together.
- 13:17SPEAKER_14: We got the band back together.
- 13:19SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 13:20SPEAKER_14: So yeah.
- 13:21SPEAKER_10: So yeah, they were largely responsible for for Common Crossing coming back.
- 13:25SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 13:25SPEAKER_10: Uh after so long.
- 13:26SPEAKER_14: A Phoenix rising from the ashes.
- 13:30SPEAKER_14: Only to dissolve again.
- 13:35SPEAKER_10: Um, so that was yeah, so that was Saturday night.
- 13:38SPEAKER_10: Uh, and then I don't know what I did Sunday.
- 13:41SPEAKER_10: I know I You got sick.
- 13:43SPEAKER_10: I did well late like seven o'clock Sunday night.
- 13:45SPEAKER_10: I I timed it?
- 13:47SPEAKER_14: You're like, oh, seven o'clock, I gotta get sick.
- 13:49SPEAKER_14: Hold on.
- 13:50SPEAKER_14: I don't want to go to work tomorrow.
- 13:52SPEAKER_10: No, I came home.
- 13:52SPEAKER_10: I gotta feel bad.
- 13:53SPEAKER_10: I had a m uh men's group.
- 13:55SPEAKER_10: I go to a men's group every other Sunday.
- 13:57SPEAKER_10: Uh by men and uh after that I I got home and I just walked in the house and I just was like, oh, it's it's really cold in here.
- 14:05SPEAKER_10: And it was.
- 14:06SPEAKER_10: But like cold, cold.
- 14:07SPEAKER_10: Like I was like this.
- 14:09SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 14:09SPEAKER_10: Chills almost.
- 14:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 14:10SPEAKER_10: So I was like, I don't think I feel good.
- 14:12SPEAKER_10: So I'm gonna go lay down.
- 14:14SPEAKER_10: So I went to bed and got up the next morning and said, nah, I can't go to work.
- 14:18SPEAKER_10: So uh stayed in bed all day.
- 14:22SPEAKER_14: And uh You know, if it was a couple months from now, I could fill in for you.
- 14:27SPEAKER_14: I'd be like, I'd be like, hey, you know that thing you do with Mr.
- 14:32SPEAKER_14: Mosier?
- 14:33SPEAKER_14: We're not doing that.
- 14:37SPEAKER_10: Well, here's the thing.
- 14:39SPEAKER_10: So I had a project planned for my second grade.
- 14:42SPEAKER_10: Uh we were gonna start it this week.
- 14:44SPEAKER_10: And so obviously I wasn't there yesterday.
- 14:47SPEAKER_10: And I I went in today and I still didn't feel good.
- 14:50SPEAKER_10: Um I was better, but I didn't feel good.
- 14:53SPEAKER_10: So yesterday I uh I left instructions for the sub uh that they're just gonna watch this sh half hour show and then the the other kindergarten are gonna watch this show and first and second grade are gonna watch this show, just to make it easy for the sub.
- 15:06SPEAKER_10: Oh, sure.
- 15:07SPEAKER_10: Because it's a music class, and if you're a sub and you aren't musically inclined, that's hard.
- 15:11SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that that'd be like, you know, uh I like history.
- 15:14SPEAKER_14: Well, you're gonna take over this math class.
- 15:16SPEAKER_14: Whoa.
- 15:17SPEAKER_07: Right, exactly.
- 15:18SPEAKER_14: Hey, oh, I need help on this.
- 15:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah, too bad.
- 15:21SPEAKER_10: I wonder if there must Google.
- 15:22SPEAKER_10: There must be uh I wonder if I could request you as a sub.
- 15:26SPEAKER_10: You must be able to request subs.
- 15:28SPEAKER_14: I I'm sure.
- 15:29SPEAKER_14: I mean I I don't know the procedure.
- 15:31SPEAKER_10: I don't either.
- 15:32SPEAKER_14: I'm not, you know, in that world.
- 15:33SPEAKER_10: Not yet.
- 15:34SPEAKER_14: Yet.
- 15:34SPEAKER_14: But you know, I'm just like, you know, maybe they'd just be like, hey, can we have that weird guy?
- 15:39SPEAKER_10: Well, see, the thing is, if I requested you as a sub, I'd probably be out of a job.
- 15:43SPEAKER_14: They'd probably like, yeah, um, we don't want either of you back again.
- 15:47SPEAKER_10: No, it'd be like, oh, Mr.
- 15:49SPEAKER_10: Moser.
- 15:49SPEAKER_14: What happened?
- 15:50SPEAKER_14: Well, about lunchtime he had everybody running through the school, uh, you know, invading every classroom, yelling, you got sucked, and then run back out again, and he did that over and over and over again, and it hurt everybody's feelings.
- 16:03SPEAKER_10: So what it's what it would be, what it would be would be like I walk in the door, it's like, is it Mr.
- 16:08SPEAKER_10: Oh, it's Mr.
- 16:08SPEAKER_10: Moser.
- 16:09SPEAKER_10: It's not Doug.

- 21:10SPEAKER_10: Uh it's a teaser trailer, which is like 30 seconds.
- 21:14SPEAKER_10: I think different than a regular trailer.
- 21:16SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:16SPEAKER_10: So let's see what it says.
- 21:20SPEAKER_17: Wow.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Metallica is a state of mind.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Metallica is unapologetically real and vulnerable.
- 21:28SPEAKER_11: Metallica is hope.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Freedom, escape.
- 21:32SPEAKER_11: Every fan has a story.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: I was a dork.
- 21:34SPEAKER_11: Always been kind of a loner.
- 21:36SPEAKER_11: I was a weirdo.
- 21:37SPEAKER_11: Why are you listening to the white people music?
- 21:39SPEAKER_11: It's like the stereotype.
- 21:40SPEAKER_11: You're doing something different than everybody else.
- 21:42SPEAKER_11: I want to hear 'em.
- 21:43SPEAKER_11: I want to hear them all.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: I found the music that has been like.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: The Lion Hunt.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: Metallica is all of us together.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: It belongs to all of us.
- 22:05SPEAKER_11: Whatever you want to put on that religion, cult, family, family, family.
- 22:10SPEAKER_11: Family.
- 22:10SPEAKER_11: Family.
- 22:10SPEAKER_11: Family.
- 22:11SPEAKER_11: Whatever label, I don't care.
- 22:12SPEAKER_11: It's a gathering of like-minded people that are there to celebrate life.
- 22:16SPEAKER_11: It's called Metallica.
- 22:20SPEAKER_10: So it's about the fans.
- 22:21SPEAKER_19: Oh, okay.
- 22:22SPEAKER_19: So that's that's cool.
- 22:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that is cool.
- 22:24SPEAKER_10: I would watch that.
- 22:25SPEAKER_10: That's cool.
- 22:25SPEAKER_14: Heck yeah, I'd watch it.
- 22:26SPEAKER_14: I'm gonna watch that.
- 22:27SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 22:28SPEAKER_10: Uh let me see what uh says here about when it comes out.

- 22:48SPEAKER_10: It's heading to North American theaters, yes.
- 22:52SPEAKER_10: Um the film is not yet finished.
- 22:57SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 22:58SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 22:58SPEAKER_10: But fans can watch a sneak peek at select locations across North America.
- 23:03SPEAKER_14: Um I mean, just based on the trailer, I mean I'm I'm I'm gonna go I'm gonna say it.
- 23:13SPEAKER_10: They did this they did the same thing with uh Rick Springfield.
- 23:18SPEAKER_10: What?
- 23:19SPEAKER_10: Rick Springfield Saved My Life?
- 23:21SPEAKER_10: Well, sort of.

- 23:25SPEAKER_10: Uh Affair of the Heart.
- 23:27SPEAKER_10: Uh basically the same thing Rick Springfield fans and and how they followed him with a music career and things like that.
- 23:33SPEAKER_14: So it'd be kind of like the rush uh timestamp style.
- 23:37SPEAKER_14: Yeah, which is a which was good.
- 23:39SPEAKER_10: Which is a cool way to celebrate the band.
- 23:42SPEAKER_14: Yeah.

- 24:44SPEAKER_10: 59% to 40% roughly.
- 24:48SPEAKER_14: Uh that's the champion.
- 24:53SPEAKER_10: Final battle, yeah.

- 25:08SPEAKER_10: Whatever.
- 25:10SPEAKER_10: But whatever.
- 25:11SPEAKER_10: I'm assuming it's uh probably gonna be easy to do.

- 25:35SPEAKER_14: What it's all about, man.
- 25:36SPEAKER_14: Uh alright, so what else?
- 25:38SPEAKER_10: What else is going on?
- 25:40SPEAKER_10: Uh I am uh Are we gonna sit again to rehearse sometime soon?
- 25:46SPEAKER_10: Supposedly.

- 26:25SPEAKER_10: 6 30?
- 26:27SPEAKER_14: Sure.
- 26:28SPEAKER_14: It's usually 6 30, so we'll go with that.
- 26:32SPEAKER_14: I'm sure that's pretty close.
- 26:34SPEAKER_14: Because we have a pretty pretty big gig coming up.
- 26:37SPEAKER_14: Well, yeah, man, we're gonna be at the Collins Center.
- 26:40SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 26:40SPEAKER_14: I mean, we're gonna that's I mean, you know, no, you know, I don't I don't wanna I don't wanna undersell this.
- 26:47SPEAKER_14: It's a pretty big deal.
- 26:49SPEAKER_14: It is for us.
- 26:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:50SPEAKER_14: I mean, you know, there have been big acts there.
- 26:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:54SPEAKER_14: You know, like Celtic Thunder.
- 27:00SPEAKER_10: That's that's a big act.
- 27:02SPEAKER_14: I laughed, but that's that's literally the only one I know of that's ever been there.
- 27:05SPEAKER_14: That's a big act.
- 27:06SPEAKER_14: I only know that because my parents and my sister went to it.
- 27:08SPEAKER_10: Martine McBride.
- 27:10SPEAKER_14: Has she been there?
- 27:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:11SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 27:11SPEAKER_10: Um there is a Queen tribute band that played there that they sounded amazing.
- 27:16SPEAKER_17: Okay.

- 27:20SPEAKER_10: Like Brian Adams himself?
- 27:21SPEAKER_10: Brian Adams was on his uh a bare bones acoustic tour.
- 27:24SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 27:25SPEAKER_10: So it was just him on a guitar and a guy playing the piano.
- 27:29SPEAKER_10: So uh I didn't hear anything about that.
- 27:31SPEAKER_10: That was that was four or five years ago.
- 27:33SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 27:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:34SPEAKER_10: But yeah, big names have played there.
- 27:37SPEAKER_10: And and I understand why, because the acoustics in that place are.
- 27:42SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I've I have never I've only been outside of it.
- 27:44SPEAKER_14: I've seen it from the outside.
- 27:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_14: I've never actually been inside.
- 27:48SPEAKER_14: Like Joko Joko's, you know, showed it to me when he was going there.

- 28:00SPEAKER_14: Like a jazz thing.
- 28:02SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 28:02SPEAKER_14: Which was actually pretty cool.
- 28:04SPEAKER_14: Because it was just like a couple drummers and guitar players and bass players, and you know, they were just playing jazz, and I just sat in on it, and it was really it was pretty interesting.
- 28:12SPEAKER_14: But it was like on a Saturday.
- 28:15SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 28:15SPEAKER_14: You know, I I don't I don't know if it was like uh like that's what they do or what it was, but uh it was it was still pretty cool.

- 28:47SPEAKER_10: It'll be the coolest menu we've ever played, I think, for sure.
- 28:51SPEAKER_14: I believe that.
- 28:52SPEAKER_14: I just I just like I said I've never been so I have no idea.
- 29:01SPEAKER_10: Actually, that just shows you the cord.

- 31:10SPEAKER_14: It just sounds fun.
- 31:12SPEAKER_14: Performer.
- 31:12SPEAKER_14: Hype performer, man.
- 31:14SPEAKER_14: Performer.
- 31:15SPEAKER_14: Hype performer.
- 31:17SPEAKER_14: Performer hype man.
- 31:18SPEAKER_14: Well you just you were like Oh, geez, crow! Ow!
- 31:25SPEAKER_10: That's what I was trying to do.
- 31:27SPEAKER_14: Too late now.
- 31:28SPEAKER_14: Now we're all deaf.
- 31:32SPEAKER_14: Whoopsie.
- 31:36SPEAKER_14: Um at the comedy.
- 31:44SPEAKER_14: What is that?
- 31:45SPEAKER_14: Wait, what is that?
- 31:51SPEAKER_14: That's some sort of 80s sitcom.
- 31:56SPEAKER_10: Wait.
- 31:58SPEAKER_10: Is that what I think it is?
- 32:00SPEAKER_10: Hold on.
- 32:00SPEAKER_14: So that's the greatest American hero.
- 32:02SPEAKER_14: That's what I was gonna say.
- 32:03SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 32:03SPEAKER_10: I just want to see if I because I've never played that before, and I just want to see if it's what is it called?
- 32:07SPEAKER_10: Uh Believe It or Not.
- 32:08SPEAKER_14: Believe it or not.
- 32:11SPEAKER_14: Don't ask me who does it.
- 32:12SPEAKER_10: Joey Scarborough.
- 32:13SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 32:14SPEAKER_10: Scarbbery.
- 32:15SPEAKER_14: Scarbury?
- 32:15SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 32:16SPEAKER_14: Scarborough.
- 32:16SPEAKER_14: Scarbury.
- 32:19SPEAKER_10: That's it, the wrong key.
- 32:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah, but basically the same thing.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: Look at what's happened to me.
- 32:34SPEAKER_15: Remember this drill?
- 32:35SPEAKER_15: I'm playing at the collar center.
- 32:39SPEAKER_16: And maybe I'm gonna be on that with all of my friends.
- 32:49SPEAKER_16: Believe it or not.
- 32:51SPEAKER_16: And really play.
- 32:52SPEAKER_16: I don't know what doing here.
- 33:05SPEAKER_16: Believe it or not, I really suck.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: Let's have it.
- 33:27SPEAKER_17: I can't believe it, but something like that.
- 33:30SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_10: It's it's G.
- 33:31SPEAKER_10: Just so in case you want to know.
- 33:41SPEAKER_14: No wonder Sarah doesn't like it.
- 33:44SPEAKER_10: Anyway.
- 33:45SPEAKER_10: Uh so yeah, I I I'm excited about it.
- 33:47SPEAKER_10: I think it's gonna be cool.
- 33:48SPEAKER_14: It's gonna be fun, man.
- 33:49SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 33:49SPEAKER_14: It's gonna be really fun.
- 33:50SPEAKER_14: I know uh it's gonna be, I think the only thing that's really gonna be intimidating is that you're actually playing for actual musicians.
- 33:57SPEAKER_10: I know.
- 33:57SPEAKER_10: And they're gonna be that's the thing.
- 33:59SPEAKER_14: You know, you're gonna be playing in front of them, and you're it's it's not like, ah, yeah, we're gonna play and have a good time.
- 34:04SPEAKER_14: You know that you're gonna be the whole time you're gonna be like, ah crap, I wouldn't hope I don't miss this up.
- 34:09SPEAKER_14: You know what I mean?
- 34:10SPEAKER_10: There are two things I expect.
- 34:12SPEAKER_10: These these kids um study music and like classical music.
- 34:17SPEAKER_14: Yeah, they're they're legit musicians.
- 34:19SPEAKER_10: They're they're the highest of their uh the the cream of the crop around the state of Maine.
- 34:23SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 34:23SPEAKER_10: And but they but they play classical music.
- 34:25SPEAKER_10: Not saying that they don't like or play other kinds of music.
- 34:28SPEAKER_10: Correct.
- 34:29SPEAKER_10: But they love music.
- 34:30SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 34:31SPEAKER_10: So I fully expect they'll be on their feet.
- 34:35SPEAKER_14: Oh, I hope I mean I I I just want them to have fun.
- 34:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, they will.
- 34:39SPEAKER_14: I just want them to have fun.
- 34:40SPEAKER_14: That's that's my that's my if they have fun, mission accomplishment.
- 34:44SPEAKER_10: I think they will I think they will wholly enjoy it.
- 34:46SPEAKER_10: Okay, yeah.
- 34:47SPEAKER_10: That's all that matters.
- 34:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 34:48SPEAKER_10: That's all that matters.
- 34:49SPEAKER_10: Because I mean they're gonna be uh coming from intense rehearsals.
- 34:53SPEAKER_14: Yeah, they need a little break.
- 34:54SPEAKER_14: Yeah, they need a little break.
- 34:55SPEAKER_14: Yeah, absolutely.
- 34:56SPEAKER_14: We can do that.
- 34:56SPEAKER_14: It'll be good.
- 34:57SPEAKER_14: Yeah, just you know.
- 34:59SPEAKER_14: Hey, it's a but hey, look at that band up there.
- 35:02SPEAKER_14: It's got like a bunch of people in that jagoff with a tambrain.
- 35:05SPEAKER_14: I mean, I don't know about that guy.
- 35:06SPEAKER_10: I wouldn't talk to talk about Chris like that.
- 35:08SPEAKER_14: I know.
- 35:09SPEAKER_10: He's a good guy.
- 35:10SPEAKER_14: When doesn't he play tambarane?
- 35:16SPEAKER_17: I don't know.
- 35:18SPEAKER_17: He probably could.
- 35:19SPEAKER_17: I know he could.
- 35:35SPEAKER_14: Well, we we we really don't have much going on.
- 35:41SPEAKER_14: It's a good time for mixed up.
- 35:42SPEAKER_14: Every time it's a good time we're mixed up.
- 35:55SPEAKER_14: Last time you were speaking of turkey.
- 36:02SPEAKER_10: Alright, let's go uh past.
- 36:05SPEAKER_10: Alright, so what was the last week?
- 36:10SPEAKER_14: That was the uh Gordi girl.
- 36:12SPEAKER_14: That's right.
- 36:13SPEAKER_10: Oh, I did get a message from uh cousin Larry.
- 36:16SPEAKER_10: He said the uh Facebook message.
- 36:21SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 36:23SPEAKER_14: Uh let's see.
- 36:25SPEAKER_14: Okay, so this is what she said.
- 36:26SPEAKER_14: Uh this week was funny.
- 36:29SPEAKER_14: I loved Elbow Room.
- 36:30SPEAKER_14: It sounds about right.
- 36:32SPEAKER_14: I've never been a soror I've never been a sorority girl myself, not my team.
- 36:36SPEAKER_14: However, I'm sure there's limited mirror space.
- 36:39SPEAKER_14: But I cackled so loud at the waitresses I know what boys like.
- 36:43SPEAKER_14: I had to go with that one this week.
- 36:46SPEAKER_14: So, yeah.
- 36:47SPEAKER_14: And then she said, wait, I and then she said, I laughed when O'Brien asked how you knew I was talented.
- 36:53SPEAKER_14: Because I'm me, dude.
- 36:54SPEAKER_14: I'm talented at being me.
- 36:57SPEAKER_14: Tuche.
- 37:00SPEAKER_14: Uh so okay, so that is the UNA.
- 37:05SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 37:06SPEAKER_10: So now present.
- 37:08SPEAKER_14: Present.
- 37:09SPEAKER_14: Okay, so whoops, I hit the wrong one.
- 37:11SPEAKER_14: Let me hit this one.
- 37:14SPEAKER_14: Okay, so this is what cousin Larry said me.
- 37:17SPEAKER_14: Mixtape.
- 37:18SPEAKER_14: Well, I would love to be able to sing Gypsy by Common Crossing.
- 37:22SPEAKER_14: Oh, like a Gypsy cool.
- 37:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 37:24SPEAKER_14: But nobody can sing it like Brian, so that's off the table.
- 37:27SPEAKER_14: I love to sing so many songs.
- 37:29SPEAKER_14: Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress by the Hollies, and her sandman by Metallica, Hell's Bells by ACDC come to mind.
- 37:35SPEAKER_14: But one that I really love to sing is The Last Resort by the Eagles.
- 37:39SPEAKER_14: Oh wow.
- 37:40SPEAKER_14: I am usually more of a rocker, headbanger, but that song is just a great one to sing along with.
- 37:45SPEAKER_14: So move over, Don Henley.
- 37:47SPEAKER_14: There's a new sheriff in town.
- 37:48SPEAKER_14: So apparently, Cousin Larry is taking Don Henley spot.
- 37:53SPEAKER_10: Great song, too.
- 37:59SPEAKER_04: She came from Providence, one in rodents, where the old world shadows hang, heavy in the air.
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: Just as her father came across the sea.
- 38:31SPEAKER_04: She heard about a place.
- 38:35SPEAKER_04: People were smiling.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: Spoke about the men's way.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: How they love They came from Seeking the Places.
- 39:12SPEAKER_14: Notice what?
- 39:13SPEAKER_10: Exactly.
- 39:14SPEAKER_14: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 39:17SPEAKER_10: I went and got some tissues.
- 39:20SPEAKER_10: Blew my nose.
- 39:21SPEAKER_10: Alright, so yeah, great choice.
- 39:22SPEAKER_10: Great song.
- 39:24SPEAKER_10: Uh Love the Eagles.
- 39:25SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 39:26SPEAKER_14: What's yours?
- 39:27SPEAKER_14: Well, it's not I know I know the question says you have to have it memorized just in case.
- 39:31SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 39:31SPEAKER_14: I never memorized a song.
- 39:33SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 39:33SPEAKER_14: But I thought it would be impressive if I did this one with Big Head Todd and the monsters.
- 39:39SPEAKER_14: Dinner with Ivan.
- 39:41unknown: Oh, wow.
- 39:42SPEAKER_14: I love that song.
- 39:43SPEAKER_14: Love that song.
- 39:44SPEAKER_10: It's kind of an odd song.
- 39:46SPEAKER_14: It is an odd song.
- 39:47SPEAKER_14: That's why I love it.
- 40:07SPEAKER_03: With the tablecloth.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: Look at that button.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: Doris will eat that.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: I'll just jump out as white.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: Out the light.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: Out of the side.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: Well come to the wild birth brother.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: And it's all right.
- 40:54SPEAKER_14: I love that line.
- 40:55SPEAKER_14: It rains all over the world, but sometimes it's gonna rain on you.
- 40:59SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah.
- 41:00SPEAKER_14: I love that line.
- 41:00SPEAKER_14: I love that song.
- 41:01SPEAKER_10: Big head Todd, man.
- 41:03SPEAKER_10: Severely underrated.
- 41:04SPEAKER_10: Absolutely, man.
- 41:05SPEAKER_14: Absolutely.
- 41:06SPEAKER_10: So mine.
- 41:09SPEAKER_14: Ah yeah, dude.
- 41:12SPEAKER_10: Foreigner! I want to know what love is.
- 41:15SPEAKER_10: Every time this comes on in my car, I sing it.
- 41:20SPEAKER_10: Uh as as does everybody really.
- 41:24SPEAKER_10: But I know all I memorize the words, and I can hit all the notes.
- 41:28SPEAKER_10: Except for Except for the very end.
- 41:33SPEAKER_10: Which I thought was the background, but it's actually Luke Ramp.
- 41:37SPEAKER_08: You know what I'm talking about?
- 41:39SPEAKER_10: Hold on, I'll stop taking it.
- 41:44SPEAKER_10: Luke Ramp.
- 41:47SPEAKER_10: The rage, because he's dark.
- 43:37SPEAKER_14: Okay, yeah, I I I I see what you're saying.
- 43:40SPEAKER_14: I thought that was Patty LaBelle too.
- 43:42SPEAKER_10: Gives me goosebumps.
- 43:43SPEAKER_10: Gives me goosebumps.
- 43:44SPEAKER_10: Man, oh man.
- 43:45SPEAKER_10: Um you think he can still hit that note?
- 43:47SPEAKER_10: No, I don't.
- 43:49SPEAKER_10: A lot of those notes he can hit.
- 43:51SPEAKER_10: I saw him uh boys, this was a long time ago though.
- 43:55SPEAKER_10: Uh and he was on oxygen.
- 43:58SPEAKER_10: He he's been in bad shape for.
- 44:00SPEAKER_10: quite a while.
- 44:00SPEAKER_14: I was gonna say I thought he had been.
- 44:02SPEAKER_10: Uh but he played uh when I was at the radio station we did a uh promotion uh over in Woodstock Canada and I I hosted the concert it was Survivor it was oh yeah it was uh Lou Graham yeah a foreigner and Lou Graham came out actually have I told you the story uh how I sang with Robin Robin Macaulay yeah yeah yeah yeah so you were like off you were in the wings of the stage no actually we were out in the front oh uh because there was a there was a space between the crowd and the stage security space so we stood there and uh we're singing along to to Lou Graham he would ha Lou Graham would sing sounded amazing he would have to go backstage and take a half of oxygen there's some days I'd feel like he would come back and good news uh since Foreigner's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame they have kind of mended fences a little bit and Kelly Hanson the the lead singer of foreigner current lead singer of foreigner for some reason can't tour internationally for some that's suspect.
- 45:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah a little bit so I'm not sure the kids I sus a Broadway musical based on Foreigner and he's gonna sing lead and he's gonna trade off with Lou Graham so Lou Graham is back with Foreigner for select dates on their international tour which would be awesome to see.
- 45:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah yeah so yeah anyway Well cool yeah so that's my choice uh I want to know what love is Foreigner and yours was dinner with Ivan from Big Head Todd and last resort by the Eagles by the Eagles all great tunes here we go here we go look at us go all right let's do the future are you editing yourself now sometimes there are those weird ones where you have to like play the first hip hop hip hop song that you just describes your first year of college Oh wow I wasn't I wasn't much of a hip hop guy but I will tell you I went I I was on a fraternity floor.
- 46:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah and uh also on that floor was a bunch of uh uh Hussin basketball players uh from the inner city so that there was a lot of hip hop in place so I'll just kind of what what I remember There you go next week we are cruising through this we are cruising through this podcast I don't know why are we on fast forward or something?

- 48:50SPEAKER_19: Oh here we are and then we're going to do the wall of tunes and it's going to be really great and I'm going to read a song to you.
- 49:02SPEAKER_19: And then this one wonderful and then say one day to do moon and hey uh well let's do this.
- 49:11SPEAKER_10: It's uh time to climb the wall of tunes so let's start that music now.
- 49:16SPEAKER_10: Alright and before you get going reading in the Beatles book I wanted to let you know that the the musician of the month for my second grade in April is the Beatles.
- 49:27SPEAKER_10: And you know I show them a little a little biography for kids about the Beatles.
- 49:35SPEAKER_10: And you know I explain to them how you know the Beatles were like the Taylor's lift of the sixties.
- 49:42SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 49:43SPEAKER_10: You know I'm like no way nobody's Taylor's lift and some of them didn't have never heard of the Beatles.
- 49:50SPEAKER_10: That's sad.
- 49:51SPEAKER_10: I blame their parents however uh so after I show them the biography thing I play them a few actually I let them pick I put up uh the one album The Beatles can realize it so I put that up on YouTube and I said you can pick one so they'll come up and they'll pick a song Oh I know this my dad listens to this my dad listened to this this morning so they're not completely lost yeah exactly wonderful exactly all right so I'm gonna take off my headphones and you're gonna read I'm gonna read it from uh Hard Days Right Mr.
- 50:25SPEAKER_14: Turner and the song we're doing this week is I'm so tired and judging by the picture John Lennon is very tired or hung over who knows during the Beatles stay in Rishikesh there were two 90 minute lectures each day and much of the rest of the time was taken up with meditating students were expected to build up their periods of meditation slowly as their technique improved.
- 50:54SPEAKER_14: One person on the course reportedly claimed to have clocked up clocked up to a 42 hour session that's just insane that's really boring man I couldn't I can't imagine meditating for 42 hours straight.
- 51:15SPEAKER_10: You gotta think they fell asleep.
- 51:17SPEAKER_14: You gotta man that's a long time dude John found that this life of stillness and inner absorption meant that he couldn't sleep at night and consequently he began feeling tired during the day.
- 51:30SPEAKER_14: Right there I haven't slept away I'm so tired written after three weeks in India was also about the things he was beginning to miss.
- 51:40SPEAKER_14: The Academy of Meditation was alcohol and drug free and John's mind was turning to his beloved cigarettes and the possibility of a drink.
- 51:50SPEAKER_14: Sometimes a friend of his would smuggle in some wine most of all he was missing Yoko I can't I can't abide by that.
- 52:00SPEAKER_14: Who is gonna miss that friggin' fire breathing dragon should I go the couple had not yet begun an affair because John was unsure of how to end his marriage.
- 52:15SPEAKER_14: He had briefly entertained the idea of inviting her to India but realized the complications of having both Cynthia and Yoko under the same roof would be too great.
- 52:25SPEAKER_14: You think John would give you everything I've got you think I'm so yeah like I I just I don't get that period of John Lennon man.
- 52:40SPEAKER_16: Well I mean Cynthia I mean have you seen pictures of her she was gorgeous and then you got Troll living under the bridge Yoko Ono hey you know to each his own beauty is in the eye of the beholder yeah that's why he wears those thick glasses he obviously was not wearing them when he met her he was like oh that's a gorgeous woman and then he put his glasses on like oh my god what have I done for a little piece of mind for a little piece of mind alone yeah exactly that about sums it up right there I just I just I don't get it man I just don't get it you know if he had never met her we would know nothing about her that's probably true.
- 53:43SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 53:44SPEAKER_14: She became who she was because of because of John Lennon yeah yeah if if he had never met her never seen her we would not be like we would not have to deal with that I would be I would my life would be I bet I bet if we had never heard of Yokohono we would have like free nuclear energy and it's safe and the Beatles would still be together and still playing and you know I bet I bet there would be world peace you know I mean there would be no like you know Vietnam never would have happened it would have just been like a big tickle fight eventually you know if there were no Yoko it would be so much better I wouldn't have to be talking about her stupid butt.
- 54:44SPEAKER_14: She really sucks and she can't sing just ask just ask Chuck Berry if there's no YOKO you suck Yeah so oh my goodness yeah I just I think the world would be a better place if we'd never heard of her we might still have the Beatles that's what I'm saying man they would still be together and playing amazing music and they would be like you know they would be like there would be no Taylor Swift either.
- 55:23SPEAKER_14: She'd just be like I can't top these guys.
- 55:25SPEAKER_14: She would just be like nah I'm gonna I'm just gonna go you know work at the gap you know or whatever she was doing before she became famous.
- 55:33SPEAKER_14: I don't know what she was doing.
- 55:35SPEAKER_14: Yeah I wasn't there.
- 55:37SPEAKER_10: That's something to ponder though.
- 55:39SPEAKER_14: Really?
- 55:39SPEAKER_14: I mean it's like one of those what ifs you know it's like what if the South had won the Civil War?
- 55:43SPEAKER_14: What if what if j you know Germany had won World War II.
- 55:46SPEAKER_14: It's like one of those kind of you know you know far reaching conundrums that you just like you you know you just think about you know you know you know it's like you know you get drunk at a bar and you're like hey hey hey hey do you think you could beat up all the Spartans with a a pencil?
- 56:05SPEAKER_14: I don't know.
- 56:06SPEAKER_14: You think John Wick could beat the Spartans with a pencil?
- 56:09SPEAKER_14: Because he killed three men in a bar with a pencil according to the movie.
- 56:14SPEAKER_14: You know it's one of those questions, right?
- 56:18SPEAKER_14: You know?
- 56:18SPEAKER_10: But if you think about it, arguably she was the wedge between them.
- 56:23SPEAKER_10: I mean no it's pronounced which ego had a lot to do with it.
- 56:26SPEAKER_10: You know McCartney has has quite an ego Leonard had not Paul had quite an ego.
- 56:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah so well they both did yeah they really of course but I think if she hadn't been there they may have been able to work it out we can work it out right seriously we can work it out without Yoko Alright we're playing one of the I have an album so let the guess in beginning is it a band yes currently there's a lot of all those Chicago so the album and I don't know if we've done this yet but we're gonna do it again.
- 57:48SPEAKER_14: I don't know if we've done that.
- 57:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah this is 16 18 that's 18 18 so this is the one that has the dreadful uh cover of uh oh yeah 25 more yeah I don't know who was consulting uh the Chicago camp I blame David Foster but this did not need redoing.
- 58:16SPEAKER_07: No what was wrong with it many that would be one of the only weak parts on the album I think I re I yeah I really think so uh because this album But I think when it came out I wasn't aware of the original 25 or 64.
- 59:28SPEAKER_14: Right so to me it was like oh wow this is you know yeah that's a good point yeah it's a good point because when I was it wasn't until we we deep dived into Chicago we realized that oh this is way better.
- 59:39SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 59:39SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 59:40SPEAKER_10: Um this album Chicago 18 came out in 1986.
- 59:44SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 59:44SPEAKER_10: So I was in sixth grade.
- 59:46SPEAKER_14: Yeah I was a freshman in high school now you had to be older in sixth grade man you had to be in junior high at least because I was in like no I was in like eighth grade.
- 59:55SPEAKER_10: I was well it came it says it came out in eighty six so it may have been technically eighty seven.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_10: So if it was like like it was it came out in the end of eighty six and then we just got window's home by the way my son is home.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah I saw a I can I see the reflection of the window outside and I saw a headlight oh good so yeah I just I I didn't mean to slow your roll I just I just kept seeing this flashing light I was like oh that's what that is so um so yeah it could have come out at the end of 86 and then we discovered it in 87 because 87 I was in seventh grade.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_10: So that might be Okay that makes more sense that makes a little more sense but when it came out I remember us jamming to this album oh I played it to death yeah had it on cassette yeah we played the crap out of the top there are several several uh hit songs on it uh here's here's one do do do do do do and you know we make fun of David Foster but the guy can write songs the dude no I mean yeah I mean the dude David Foster is got a huge ego oh yeah no doubt about it I read his autobiography yeah I mean I'm reading it right now oh yeah yeah and and it's like yeah he's got a big ego but even he admits that he screwed up with Chicago yeah he does yeah he even he even admits it he was like yeah I made him way too soft yeah so but that being said for a middle school dude yeah we didn't know any better just discovering girls yeah you know oh this is this is ultimate like you know slow dance you know at the you know oh yeah and I think uh Jason Chef I don't know that I actually like his voice better than Sotera well here's the thing I don't know that Jason Schiff would have been the right choice in early Chicago not with what they were doing no right so in in like the mid 80s after Chicago was 17 yeah like hard habit to break you're the inspiration I think it was a smooth transition I think him taking over at that point yeah was perfect yeah yeah then of course this one oh yeah if she would have been faithful yeah yes it's another ballad of course eighty percent of Chicago songs that came out in the 80s were all ballads yeah is it's I think the only exception was Stay of the Night's trap still great songs oh yeah photograph build with me the first use I've ever heard so uh then they of course they had you know up tempo too this one has Bill Champlain's thing in lead called It's Alright album cut very easy oh yeah I don't like his voice better than I was well apparently according to David Foster's book he had worked with Bill Chaplin before right in you know before he had been in Chicago yeah so I don't know if he was instrumental in getting him into the band but very 80s but still and very nostalgic.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah oh yeah this brings back memory oh yeah uh I don't know I always I always think it's later in the 80s this came out I always thought it was like 88 88 89 yeah but it's uh according to this it's 86 yeah of course we were up here at the time so maybe it was 88 before I got up here right you know this is true before they started carrying it at Zares holy cow Zers uh yeah because Bill Champlin was on a bunch of their uh hits after that uh what was the one uh oh this one Chase in the Wind that was on a Chicago 21 Chase in the Wind uh Chicago 19 the one after this had a bunch of big Bill Champlin hits yeah which was uh I don't want to live without your love right here
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_05: I always liked his songs better than nobody else's.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_05: If we didn't stay together, of course.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_10: They were writing or they were uh doing songs by Diane Warren.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_10: I was singing.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_10: So this one.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_10: And they all have to be a little bit more.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_10: I like it when it comes in.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:06:33unknown: I don't want to live with that.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_10: Pretty sure this is Diane Warren.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_10: This one.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_10: Look away.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_10: Was Diane Warren?
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_14: It'd been funny if it'd been Stevie Wonder.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_05: Will you call me up this morning?
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_05: Talking about the new love you found.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_05: I'm really happy.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_05: I do this off.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_14: This song never makes any sense.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_14: That first voice.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_05: I guess I won't be coming round.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_14: You think?
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_14: I guess it's a She just called you, said she found some other dude.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_14: Come on, man.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_05: I know you've got to know for me.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_08: It'll never be hating the power.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_10: I know, right?
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_10: I miss that though.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_10: I missed that in songs.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_10: The build-up.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_14: Yeah, they don't do it anymore, man.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_10: This was another one off Chicago 19.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_10: I love how I I pull an album, but then I play songs from a different album.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_10: Well, why not?
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_10: This is one of my favorite ones.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_14: Um I mean you can you really can intermix Chicago 16 to 1920.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_14: Real easy.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_10: I like the buildup.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_10: The pop buildup in these songs.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_10: So he's singing here.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_10: But then when the chorus comes, it's big and I don't do that much in chorus.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_05: Now come.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_10: That's there.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_10: Let's pick it up right here.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_17: Okay, now everybody.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_10: They don't hold up very well because nobody talks on the phone.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I was like, what's a phone?
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_18: What do you do with it?
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_18: Why are they talking on the phone?
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_18: Why aren't they texting?
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_10: So uh so the album that I picked, Chicago 18 from 1986, produced by David Foster, engineered and mixed by Humberto Gatica.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that's like his that's that was like his dude.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_10: I'm curious as to how many songs David Foster had a hand in writing.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_10: Uh Niagara Falls was arranged by David Foster.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_10: Uh Forever was arranged by David Foster.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_10: Uh if he would have been faithful, it was arranged by David Foster.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_10: 25 or 64, arranged by David Foster.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_10: Will you still love me co-written by David Foster?
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_10: And arranged by David Foster.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_10: Uh over and over.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_10: Interesting.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_10: Uh just because we're not done with this album yet, right?
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_10: Let's just do this.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_10: This is on Chicago 18.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_10: Song written by Robert Lamb, who is the keyboard player, Chicago, James Newton Howard, who is a movie composer and producer, and Steve Lukather.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_14: Oh, I mean, David Foster worked with everybody.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_08: I mean, Steve Lucas played guitar.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_10: So the uh other song that I played before called It's Alright, also co-written by David Foster.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_10: Um the songs were arranged by David Foster.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_14: Oh I'm don't doubt that at all.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_18: I don't know.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_10: I wonder how you get that uh vocal sound, the harmonies and stuff like that.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_10: Because it sounds like a computer.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_14: Well, I mean it's it's something.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_14: I mean, I'm sure there's you know, whatever.
- 1:11:32unknown: Yeah.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_14: But I you know it it it's easy for us now to be like, oh yeah, this is the old 80s, but you know, but back in the day we didn't know any better.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_14: Oh, right.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_14: We hadn't heard early Chicago.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_14: And I love Terry Kath.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_14: You know what I mean?
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_10: I love this album.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_14: So now that we know you know pre-David Foster and post-David Foster, now we can be now we can be judgmental and be like, oh yeah.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_10: And to be honest with you, there are uh I am more akin to this era sometimes because it's nostalgia for me.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_10: You know, like I I live.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_14: But if I want if I want just straight musicality, I'm going to 70s.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I'm going 70s for sure for Chicago.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_10: Um But you know, like like that just brings back all kinds of memory.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_14: I mean that's nostalgic as crap.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_14: 17, 18, 19.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_14: That's nostalgic, dude.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_14: I mean, that's total straight up like 80s, you know, put your knee on, let's go to the games.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_14: Is that uh what you're trying to do?
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_14: Oh, you trying to do the uh Oh yeah.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_18: Boom boom boom boom boom.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_02: Everybody needs a little bit of time away.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_02: I had to say I don't wanna play bass.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_15: David Foster, you play bass, and I'm gonna sing on the song, and then I'm gonna do the karate kid.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_10: Was it hard to say I'm sorry?
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_10: Was that on sixteen?
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_15: I've it was sixteen, seventeen.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_10: It wasn't seventeen.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_14: Okay, so it was sixteen.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_14: I almost think it was sixteen.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_14: It was in it was in a movie.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_14: It was actually in a movie that nobody saw.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_10: Do you know what I I feel bad for people that uh because that song they cut off for the radio.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_10: Uh oh, they call get away.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_10: And I always feel bad because every time you hear it on the radio, it's always cut off.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_10: I guess it wasn't in the key of D.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_10: Say it was or wasn't.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_10: Hold on, let's see what E.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_08: Everybody needs a little time away.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_10: Okay, so we know this.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_10: I want to get to the end.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_10: Okay, so wait, let me.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_10: So this is where the radio always cuts it off.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_10: But they miss out on this just fantastic instrumental.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_10: Actually, it's not an instrumental.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_14: No, there's horns.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_14: Well at least there's horns in this part.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_14: That's a killer horn part, man.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_14: And that's it.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_14: See, that's that's a throwback though to the early Chicago.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_14: You know, because they did stuff like that all the time.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_14: Oh, yeah.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_14: You know what I mean?
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_10: Uh so because I'm going to see Jeff Leopard, I probably won't be able to choose to see Chicago.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_10: Unless I can I don't know.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_10: Unless I can find some cash.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_10: Where would you go?
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_10: Take back your bottle.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_10: We go to two concerts.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_14: We go to all the concerts.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_14: Show up at the redemption center.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_14: Oh, we're gonna go see Chicago, we need some money.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_14: The guy would be like, this is a joke.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_14: Am I gonna be on YouTube?
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_17: Be like, we gotta know, you can come too.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_14: You wanna go?
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_10: Well, we can go have we didn't even say uh what episode this is.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_10: This is episode 237.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_14: It is.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_10: 237.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_10: We have.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_14: It's our fifth anniversary.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_10: Fifth anniversary.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_10: Tomorrow.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_10: Tomorrow.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_10: Well, actually, by the time this is the first time.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_10: By the time it goes out, it'll be the yeah.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_14: It'll be yesterday.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_14: Wow.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_14: How did we get in the future?
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_14: I don't know.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_14: Happy anniversary to us.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_14: Happy today! We're still here.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_14: Enough of that.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_14: Who knew?
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_14: Who would have known five years ago we'd still be doing this?
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_14: Although it has changed.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_14: The format has changed quite a bit from that first episode to now.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_10: We should listen to that sometime just for giggles.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_14: Well we put it, we put it in.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_14: We we we played it.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_10: We played it.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_10: What do you mean?
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_14: I'll put the very oh like the first like oh, I was talking about the one we did back in like 2017.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_10: Oh, that one.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_14: We we put that in there.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_14: We were uh That was right after the radio show.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_14: We were bitter.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_14: I was bitter.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_14: You were bitter, yeah.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_14: I was I was just like I'm gonna be so stupid.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that was yeah.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_14: But maybe that's why we only needed one of them.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_10: I'd I'd love to go back and listen to some of those early episodes uh sometime and just Well it was me on the phone.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_14: Yeah, so it sounds like I was, you know, live from Baghdad because of because of COVID, yeah, for sure.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_14: So uh yeah, I guess that's it.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_14: I guess there is I guess that's all there is no more.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_10: Alright, uh until uh next time.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I'm O'Brien.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_10: I'm still done.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_10: I probably won't have the stuff he knows next time.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_10: We'll see.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_17: But you never know.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_17: Maybe I'll have it by then.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_17: That would be fun.
