- 0:12Speaker 1: World Series game one goes to the Brewers. It's the
- 0:15Speaker 1: FT Live postgame show. Crats, no popping bottles yet, sir.
- 0:19Speaker 2: No, not yet. One game. We'll put this over here.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Put the bottle back. Thank you very much, former Brewer. Wow,
- 0:25Speaker 1: that was a good game. And that was a really
- 0:26Speaker 1: cool finish with the challenge, keeping the thing going. A
- 0:31Speaker 1: smoky finish to the ball game. Johnny DeLuca was like, wait,
- 0:34Speaker 1: where's the ball? I can't see the ball. Trying to
- 0:37Speaker 1: swim through the smoke. So it's Kratz and Todd Father.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I'm Scotty Braun. Let's dive deeper into this one right
- 0:43Speaker 1: now with Full Count. It's a full count. Full Count,
- 0:52Speaker 1: fueled by Marathon. Todd Father, it was almost done, and
- 0:56Speaker 1: then it wasn't. Cooper Pratt, the youngster, the rookie, did
- 0:59Speaker 1: not keep his foot on the bag. It didn't end
- 1:01Speaker 1: up hurting them. Trevor McGill finished the game for this team,
- 1:05Speaker 1: but this was about as close as it gets.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and this is what you want to see for
- 1:09Speaker 3: a World Series. That's for darn sure. A nice battle.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I think if we talk about Tampa first, you could
- 1:17Speaker 3: hang your hat on this game here a little bit.
- 1:19Speaker 3: There was opportunities, of course, but to think about your
- 1:23Speaker 3: first game in a World Series really coming back, there
- 1:28Speaker 3: was a couple opportunities they had there.
- 1:30Speaker 4: I know we're going to go over every single play, but.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I mean, honestly, I think at the end of the day,
- 1:37Speaker 3: they played hard. But, you know, they just came up
- 1:39Speaker 3: on the short end of the stick. Miz pitched really well.
- 1:45Speaker 3: The first inning was big. That first inning, two runs
- 1:48Speaker 3: kind of slowed Tampa down a little bit. They nickel
- 1:51Speaker 3: and dimed to get one run. And then at the end,
- 1:54Speaker 3: almost coming up big there and finding a way to
- 1:57Speaker 3: at least tie the game and putting a little pressure
- 2:00Speaker 3: on Trevor, honestly, in the ninth inning there. So again,
- 2:05Speaker 3: not happy you lost. It's not about how you win.
- 2:08Speaker 3: It's about, or not about, yeah, exactly how you win.
- 2:10Speaker 3: It's finding a way to win. So for them, ultimately
- 2:14Speaker 3: they lost the game, but again, something to build up.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Upon, off upon. Yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I mean, tough one for Johnny DeLuca. I mean, the
- 2:23Speaker 2: fact that the game ends with Johnny DeLuca kind of
- 2:25Speaker 2: shows about, you know, maybe where the depth of that
- 2:30Speaker 2: lineup is. They tried to scrape and claw together. This
- 2:35Speaker 2: ninth inning is a prime example of why teams want
- 2:38Speaker 2: to be able to hit the home run. Not saying
- 2:39Speaker 2: it's right. Just saying it's hard to put together three singles.
- 2:44Speaker 2: They put balls in play. They tried to get stuff happening.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And then Johnny DeLuca comes up and he's trying to
- 2:50Speaker 2: hit Trevor McGill in what looked like Clint Pasillas' college
- 2:54Speaker 2: dorm room. It's tough enough to hit him without smoke everywhere.
- 3:01Speaker 1: There's some good juice already in the chat, so I
- 3:03Speaker 1: do want to get to this as I can mix
- 3:04Speaker 1: it into some of our comments. Some fans thinking that
- 3:07Speaker 1: Pratt's foot was on the bag. No. Sorry. FML in
- 3:13Speaker 1: the chat said, should have kept Ashby and McGill was off.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Did you guys feel that way? Pratt, what did you
- 3:19Speaker 1: think of his pitches?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Off? No. The fact that they should have brought him in? No.
- 3:29Speaker 4: I think.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I think you could have stretched it for one more
- 3:33Speaker 2: batter with Ashby, but we're splitting hairs.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 2: We're splitting hairs in the sense that who was his
- 3:40Speaker 2: first batter? Yandy. I don't love trying to go top
- 3:45Speaker 2: rail with Yandy after you've gone top rail the whole night.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I get it. They got him out. So that would
- 3:53Speaker 2: have been the only batter. People are like, why would
- 3:54Speaker 2: you keep a lefty in with Ashby? Why would you
- 3:57Speaker 2: keep a lefty in with Yandy hitting? Just because of
- 4:00Speaker 2: the profile of the pitch and everything without getting too
- 4:03Speaker 2: nerdy with it. You've been going top rail, and Yandy
- 4:07Speaker 2: does a great job of getting on top of the ball,
- 4:09Speaker 2: kind of like Todd. It was never going to be
- 4:11Speaker 2: swinging up to it, and if you swing up to
- 4:13Speaker 2: Trevor McGill, you're cooked. We're splitting hairs. Trevor McGill has
- 4:19Speaker 2: to get in this game. I'm sure he was a
- 4:21Speaker 2: little amped. He didn't even close out the last series, so...
- 4:25Speaker 2: we're good. It was a good move. It was fine
- 4:27Speaker 2: because it worked out.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And here's the thing, Todd father, there are, we did
- 4:32Speaker 1: tell the tape multiple times this week with different shows.
- 4:35Speaker 1: There's a clear cut advantage in my mind with the
- 4:37Speaker 1: Brewers bullpen. And that showed right away here in game one,
- 4:41Speaker 1: the Brewers have a tougher swing and miss bullpen. And
- 4:46Speaker 1: I think more depth to their bullpen, right? Kelly gave
- 4:49Speaker 1: it up a little bit that ended up mattering in
- 4:51Speaker 1: a one run game. To me, This is a bullpen
- 4:55Speaker 1: that's just flat out better, and it's the best in
- 4:56Speaker 1: baseball this year. And we saw that with a guy
- 4:59Speaker 1: like Uribe and Ashby is probably the best weapon in
- 5:03Speaker 1: baseball in the playoffs right now. So that's what's part
- 5:06Speaker 1: of winning tight games like this. Both these teams can
- 5:08Speaker 1: do this. This is their style of play, both sides.
- 5:10Speaker 1: They play tight games like this, and they both win
- 5:12Speaker 1: games like this. The Brewers win the first one.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Kratzy, do you agree? Were you shaking your head? I
- 5:18Speaker 4: didn't know where you were at there. Oh, no, no.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I think they're, I think they're more than just, I
- 5:22Speaker 2: think they're like, I think they're a step above the
- 5:25Speaker 2: best in the sense that they are the best bullpen.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I think, I think they're, we're underselling them by just,
- 5:31Speaker 2: I think they're like a step above everyone else, like
- 5:34Speaker 2: a step farther above everybody else.
- 5:37Speaker 4: No. And I was going to agree totally with what
- 5:39Speaker 4: Scott said.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I mean, listen, if you can get to six innings
- 5:43Speaker 3: with this squad right now, it's pretty much juego and
- 5:46Speaker 3: everybody knows what that is. That's game over. Um, And
- 5:50Speaker 3: they play in these games. They're in the regular season.
- 5:54Speaker 3: They're not the home run hitting team. They're finding ways.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I mean, Yelich hitting a triple. I mean, absolutely phenomenal
- 6:00Speaker 3: getting the crowd going there. Listen, this is the best
- 6:04Speaker 3: team in baseball right now. Will they win the World Series?
- 6:07Speaker 3: I don't know yet, but they are the best team
- 6:10Speaker 3: in baseball. And ultimately, they need three more games to
- 6:13Speaker 3: do it. And the Miz was great. I was with
- 6:17Speaker 3: a couple of buddies that were talking about dude, this
- 6:20Speaker 3: guy throws over 100 miles an hour all the time.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Yeah, this is what he's been doing for the whole year.
- 6:26Speaker 4: It's been great.
- 6:26Speaker 3: And then he hits 99 in the fifth inning or
- 6:29Speaker 3: fourth inning, whatever it was, in the fifth. And I'm like, yeah,
- 6:33Speaker 3: he's slowing down. And we had a chuckle. But this
- 6:38Speaker 3: is what this team does. They play close games, and
- 6:41Speaker 3: their bullpen has been absolutely a delight to watch.
- 6:44Speaker 4: And even in.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Tough times in the ninth inning, Trevor comes in and
- 6:49Speaker 3: does his job. So, listen, one run wasn't going to
- 6:52Speaker 3: hurt you there, and that's all they gave up.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And what Todd said, like talking about him throwing over
- 6:59Speaker 2: 100 miles an hour, I was watching this game with
- 7:01Speaker 2: my dad. We're celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend,
- 7:05Speaker 2: and my dad's like, does he throw anything under 100?
- 7:10Speaker 2: He's like, does he work in like a change-up or anything?
- 7:14Speaker 2: I'm like, no, this dude's throwing– And just as– you know,
- 7:17Speaker 2: they had like a stat up. He's thrown like 1,100
- 7:20Speaker 2: pitches over 100 miles an hour. And the Rays this
- 7:24Speaker 2: year have thrown like, I don't know, 92 pitches at
- 7:28Speaker 2: the entire staff. But Todd also mentioned something. He said, oh, yeah,
- 7:32Speaker 2: getting the team going with the triple in the first inning.
- 7:35Speaker 2: That ball was almost caught. Like part of this being
- 7:37Speaker 2: good also has to be the luck. Junior– William Contreras
- 7:44Speaker 2: hit a rocket– to Taylor Walls, who's playing infield in,
- 7:50Speaker 2: but the ball ticks off his glove. So two balls
- 7:52Speaker 2: tick off the glove, and the Brewers are up 2-0.
- 7:55Speaker 2: That's crazy that you're sitting there going, yes, this is
- 8:01Speaker 2: the better team. I think the Brewers are the better team.
- 8:03Speaker 2: It's just an opinion. But things still have to go
- 8:06Speaker 2: your way. You still have to catch breaks to win
- 8:09Speaker 2: these games.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Hey, there's one part I got to point out right
- 8:14Speaker 1: away because– every little moment in a series like this
- 8:18Speaker 1: will matter. If the games look like this, this is
- 8:20Speaker 1: what happened last year. Every little moment in the world
- 8:23Speaker 1: series leading to the Dodgers winning by the slightest of hairs.
- 8:26Speaker 1: There's 10 moments we could go back to last year
- 8:28Speaker 1: and be like, if this doesn't happen, right? The IKF lead,
- 8:31Speaker 1: the Miguel Ross Homer, et cetera. In this case, what's
- 8:34Speaker 1: Victor Mesa doing? Yandy Diaz is the best batting average
- 8:37Speaker 1: with runners in scoring position in baseball. He's at the plate.
- 8:41Speaker 1: There's two outs. There's a runner at second. What are
- 8:43Speaker 1: we doing? Todd father, like, To me, that's got to
- 8:47Speaker 1: be a conversation post-game, no? Somebody's got to go up
- 8:50Speaker 1: to him and be like, dude, I know you're a
- 8:52Speaker 1: youngster and you got DFA'd by the Marlins and now
- 8:54Speaker 1: you're making your name in some hay here. But that
- 8:57Speaker 1: can't happen.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Dagger there. The DFA by the Marlins. You're getting nasty
- 9:01Speaker 4: here a little bit.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Well, no. The Rays, I mean, he's become a really solid,
- 9:06Speaker 1: impactful player here with Tampa Bay. But this is the–
- 9:10Speaker 1: World Series here. Like, that to me was a pretty
- 9:13Speaker 1: dumb step. Like, you can't do that.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 4: You got to be a hundy on that one. With
- 9:20Speaker 4: one of your big dogs up.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I don't think it's a conversation that needs to be needed,
- 9:24Speaker 3: but it's maybe a smack in the rear end. But, hey, man,
- 9:27Speaker 3: you know, let that play out. You know what I mean? Hey,
- 9:31Speaker 3: we got our big guy out there.
- 9:34Speaker 4: You have to.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Kratzy loves the words I use. You have to nickel
- 9:37Speaker 3: and dime every inning because guess what? Every inning can
- 9:42Speaker 3: cost you a World Series, can cost you a game.
- 9:46Speaker 4: And guess what?
- 9:47Speaker 3: They're not going to go back tonight or tomorrow and
- 9:50Speaker 3: be like, hey, let's go over everything. I think in
- 9:53Speaker 3: the hitters meeting, they're going to talk about who we're
- 9:55Speaker 3: facing today, what we need to do, and how do
- 9:57Speaker 3: we get after it to be better, to score more
- 9:59Speaker 3: than two runs. And that's really it. You move on
- 10:05Speaker 3: because you can't really change anything now. There's only six
- 10:07Speaker 3: games total that can amass for the World Series here.
- 10:12Speaker 3: If you go back and nickel and dime every little
- 10:14Speaker 3: piece of what happened yesterday, you don't deserve to be
- 10:17Speaker 3: there because you have to move on from it. And
- 10:19Speaker 3: I think You take the guy and go, hey, man,
- 10:21Speaker 3: that situation, maybe pick and choose a little wiser.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Move on from that. And that's it.
- 10:27Speaker 3: So, again, you got your gun going tomorrow. You got
- 10:31Speaker 3: your best pitcher going tomorrow. And I think if you're Tampa,
- 10:34Speaker 3: you feel pretty good. And you know you held maybe
- 10:37Speaker 3: a World Series champion team to three runs.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Very good. Now you need the offense to get going.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I think with the Victor Mesa play, It's an emotional play.
- 10:48Speaker 2: You know he is an emotional player. You have to
- 10:51Speaker 2: be able to rein that in. He has to be
- 10:53Speaker 2: able to rein that in. But you can't be as
- 10:54Speaker 2: a manager or as a third base coach like, two outs.
- 11:00Speaker 2: We're stopping. We're stopping. No, you want that energy. You
- 11:03Speaker 2: want that excitement. But that was an emotional steal of
- 11:09Speaker 2: third base. And... It can't happen. I thought Sal Freelick
- 11:14Speaker 2: had an incredible jump, a third with two outs. And
- 11:18Speaker 2: to me, that was too close. It was also too
- 11:20Speaker 2: close that Hicks threw it because Caminero had to do
- 11:24Speaker 2: a cartwheel going over it. But I thought that was
- 11:26Speaker 2: too close. You are going to score. You are a
- 11:29Speaker 2: big league hitter with a big league secondary lead. You
- 11:32Speaker 2: are going to score on every base hit. I'm sorry,
- 11:35Speaker 2: Victor Mesa. That can't happen with the hottest hitter in.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Your lineup could have been the ALCS MVP in the
- 11:47Speaker 2: previous series. Thank you.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Yeah. It just can't happen. It's going to be too
- 11:52Speaker 1: tight of a series. And like Todd Fathers saying, the
- 11:55Speaker 1: Brewers are the best team in baseball. If you want
- 11:57Speaker 1: to pull off an upset, you can't do that stuff, right?
- 12:01Speaker 2: But I can't play scared.
- 12:02Speaker 1: No, no, no. I'm not saying play scared. But, Kratz,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I think you and I both share the thoughts of
- 12:09Speaker 1: being into aggression. But Yandy Diaz is literally the best
- 12:13Speaker 1: hitter in baseball with runners in scoring position, and you
- 12:15Speaker 1: just took the bat out of his hands.
- 12:18Speaker 2: And he's already making adjustments against the Miz. He's making
- 12:21Speaker 2: adjustments against the Miz. He's a really good top-rail fastball hitter.
- 12:26Speaker 2: He's clipped the Miz before in his career. Just earlier
- 12:31Speaker 2: this year, he got him. So it takes one pitch.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Yandy's not going to go down three times easily, let alone–
- 12:39Speaker 2: For that third time, he's not going to go down
- 12:40Speaker 2: with a runner in scoring position easily. He's going to
- 12:43Speaker 2: put together an at-bat.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Listen, to button it up, like a wise man told me,
- 12:48Speaker 3: my good friend Bob West, he told me, aggressive but
- 12:51Speaker 3: under control.
- 12:53Speaker 4: And I think that's what you need to be.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Yep. I'm with you. I want to get to the
- 12:58Speaker 1: Brewer side of this, more of the Brewer side of this.
- 13:02Speaker 1: First off, that's the first segment. We've got more to
- 13:04Speaker 1: go here. And a shout-out to Marathon. Full count is
- 13:07Speaker 1: fueled by Marathon. And that's where fun runs on full.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Save up to $ 1 a gallon with Marathon rewards. Hey,
- 13:19Speaker 1: we got merch for Brewers fans. They're the happy ones
- 13:22Speaker 1: right now up 1-0. Another one coming up in Milwaukee.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It was such a scene, too. Before the game, I
- 13:27Speaker 1: should say, that whole song and dance from Fox is
- 13:29Speaker 1: always just the best. It's cinematic. Hey, FoulTerritoryShop.com. Game one
- 13:34Speaker 1: goes to the Milwaukee Brewers. We have shirts, including the
- 13:37Speaker 1: one I'm wearing right now with the Miz, a little
- 13:38Speaker 1: Pokemon style, VowelTerritoryShop.com. All smiles presented by Lorraine Co. Let's
- 13:50Speaker 1: get to the best player in this first game and
- 13:53Speaker 1: also just a little bit more on the team that
- 13:54Speaker 1: won because we definitely are going to spend some time
- 13:57Speaker 1: criticizing what happens and what goes wrong, but let's praise
- 13:59Speaker 1: the postseason performance so far from William Contreras. He continues
- 14:03Speaker 1: to dominate in a number of facets of this game. Kratz,
- 14:07Speaker 1: clutch knocks, challenges. He's really, really good at the ABS
- 14:12Speaker 1: challenge system. And he was not letting the Rays run
- 14:15Speaker 1: on him. So he's become a complete catcher in this postseason.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And I think he plays up even to these moments
- 14:22Speaker 1: that we're seeing in October right now. And, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 1: he's not Wilson. But it's the same bloodlines. And I
- 14:29Speaker 1: just think that they've got something special there. delivering in
- 14:32Speaker 1: big moments.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I mean, I think he's another guy that could have
- 14:38Speaker 2: been NLCS MVP. And he was actually my pick. If
- 14:43Speaker 2: you go back to the value picks for MVP of
- 14:46Speaker 2: the World Series, I think this is a huge guy
- 14:49Speaker 2: because of where he hits in the lineup, because of
- 14:51Speaker 2: the fact that their lineup is deep, but he's kind of...
- 14:54Speaker 2: I mean, he's hitting cleanup, so there's going to be
- 14:57Speaker 2: a lot of opportunities. But I think his... his leadership
- 15:02Speaker 2: behind the plate. While I know it's been questioned in
- 15:06Speaker 2: the sense of, ah, he's too much out there for himself.
- 15:09Speaker 2: He's too much this and that. I think some fans
- 15:12Speaker 2: get irritated with him, but the reason they're irritated with
- 15:16Speaker 2: him is because he's always out there. What he's done
- 15:19Speaker 2: in the post season is incredible and can't be, it
- 15:24Speaker 2: can't be overlooked by if he was a third baseman,
- 15:27Speaker 2: if he was a, first baseman, but he's doing this
- 15:30Speaker 2: behind the dish, almost hitting 400 so far in the postseason.
- 15:37Speaker 2: This is one of the cogs that makes this team go.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Todd, just to clarify too, when I say he's not Wilson,
- 15:45Speaker 1: Wilson will get in your face a little bit more
- 15:46Speaker 1: and make the game about him. He's a little bit quieter,
- 15:50Speaker 1: but still has some bite to him. He's a more
- 15:53Speaker 1: valuable player than his brother right now because he's doing
- 15:55Speaker 1: it from the catcher position and he's putting together the
- 15:57Speaker 1: clutch knocks too. on offense. But I mean, he's playing
- 16:00Speaker 1: up in big moments and the Braves got rid of him.
- 16:03Speaker 1: He looked like he was going to be a budding star.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And you're like, what am I missing here? Why did
- 16:06Speaker 1: the Braves trade him away? And guess what? Bad trade.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I know the Braves have done fine, but the Brewers
- 16:11Speaker 1: have a superstar here and he's shining in the postseason.
- 16:14Speaker 4: A couple of things. Dominance, I would say with a
- 16:17Speaker 4: little bit of arrogance in a good way.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Like, listen, you're in the ultimate, you're in the prime
- 16:24Speaker 3: of baseball playoff time show off. show out and go
- 16:29Speaker 3: out there and do what you got to do. Listen,
- 16:32Speaker 3: some people might not like it. Some people love it.
- 16:34Speaker 3: You got Caminero, who's going to take 39 seconds to
- 16:37Speaker 3: get around the bases. You also got a guy in
- 16:39Speaker 3: Contreras that'll take 39 plus two, put the crown on.
- 16:43Speaker 3: I love what he's doing. I think he's exciting player.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I mean, listen, he batted 201 in the regular season.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I mean, With two strikes, excuse me. He batted 201
- 16:53Speaker 3: with two strikes. Guess what he's batting now with two strikes?
- 16:55Speaker 3: Seven for 18 in two strike opportunities. So he's bearing
- 16:59Speaker 3: down with a little bit of arrogance. And I love everything,
- 17:03Speaker 3: every single thing about this whole situation. You need a
- 17:06Speaker 3: guy like him and you need a guy like him
- 17:08Speaker 3: to ball out. Lean on him. Kratzy, lean on him.
- 17:12Speaker 3: That's what you need to do. That's the offensive player
- 17:14Speaker 3: you need to lean on. Get on base for a
- 17:16Speaker 3: guy like him. and let him do his job. He
- 17:18Speaker 3: doesn't need the home run either. The single works, and
- 17:20Speaker 3: he had one today for an RBI.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Kratz, take me back to the first inning. So there's
- 17:27Speaker 1: three knocks pretty quickly for the Brewers, and then you
- 17:30Speaker 1: get the place erupting. Thousands of dollars to get your
- 17:33Speaker 1: butt inside that ballpark, and that place was waiting 44
- 17:36Speaker 1: years for that show. It was a show, like I mentioned,
- 17:39Speaker 1: before the game started. I loved what they did, right?
- 17:42Speaker 1: And then To get on the board quickly like that
- 17:45Speaker 1: just absolutely lights the place up. And I can just
- 17:48Speaker 1: say this from a fan perspective. It's just such a
- 17:50Speaker 1: fun experience. If you have a late comeback win, that's
- 17:53Speaker 1: really cool. But to take the lead early on and
- 17:56Speaker 1: have that kind of juice, it carries the crowd and
- 17:59Speaker 1: the fun experience throughout the whole game. And that's what
- 18:02Speaker 1: Contreras was able to do. They had three knocks there.
- 18:04Speaker 1: So that's Churio, Jelic, and Contreras all off the cutter.
- 18:08Speaker 1: from Nick Martinez, who I guess didn't maybe have the
- 18:11Speaker 1: feel for his changeup and then eventually got it and
- 18:13Speaker 1: pitched well the rest of the way. But I mean,
- 18:15Speaker 1: the first inning is a big, I mean, a big
- 18:18Speaker 1: key here in deciding how the game played out.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I was confused by their pitch choices and I didn't
- 18:25Speaker 2: watch enough. Nick Martinez starts, but I guess if he
- 18:30Speaker 2: doesn't have the feel for the changeup, he found it
- 18:33Speaker 2: quick after that to me, The thought is, oh, we
- 18:38Speaker 2: don't throw the changeup because we haven't sped them up
- 18:41Speaker 2: at all. We haven't done the work to get to
- 18:44Speaker 2: the changeup. And to me, it was like, okay, that's
- 18:47Speaker 2: fine if that's what you're thinking. But that cutter, you
- 18:51Speaker 2: also haven't sped them up where they're pulling off the ball,
- 18:53Speaker 2: where those righties are going to be pulling off the
- 18:55Speaker 2: ball to be able to not stay on it long enough.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So I didn't understand that. But as far as getting
- 19:02Speaker 2: on top right out of the gate, 2018, we went
- 19:07Speaker 2: game six against the Dodgers and we scored early in
- 19:11Speaker 2: that game. And I forget how many runs we scored,
- 19:14Speaker 2: but the rest of the game, you just feel that
- 19:18Speaker 2: level of volume in the stadium is always just a
- 19:22Speaker 2: little higher. Like people aren't bored. People don't like, oh, great.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Two outs in an inning. I guess we're not going
- 19:30Speaker 2: to score. And everyone starts sitting down. It felt like
- 19:33Speaker 2: when I was watching the game, It didn't seem like
- 19:35Speaker 2: anybody was sitting down for a majority of the time,
- 19:38Speaker 2: except for the few front row people. It just felt
- 19:42Speaker 2: like that first inning, 42 years waiting for that. I mean,
- 19:47Speaker 2: 44 years waiting for that first inning. all those people
- 19:51Speaker 2: paying all that money like everything was just like the
- 19:54Speaker 2: roof wanted to open up by itself.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah and mark oh go ahead top i was just
- 20:02Speaker 1: gonna say nick i mean because it was a big
- 20:03Speaker 1: decision five innings two runs five k's he ended up
- 20:06Speaker 1: pitching pretty well that was it that was the only
- 20:08Speaker 1: blemish for him.
- 20:09Speaker 4: He did fantastic.
- 20:11Speaker 3: And I think what is the MO for the Tampa
- 20:14Speaker 3: Bay Rays, Kratzy, Scottie?
- 20:16Speaker 4: It's that cambio.
- 20:17Speaker 3: And I think even if you don't feel it in
- 20:20Speaker 3: the beginning, I'm not saying he didn't, you still got
- 20:22Speaker 3: to throw it because that's what they've worked on. He
- 20:25Speaker 3: has a nasty split change, which he's found in Japan.
- 20:31Speaker 3: And I think that's where he's gotten so much better
- 20:36Speaker 3: and figured it out. played with him in the Olympics
- 20:40Speaker 3: and the championship game and the gold medal match.
- 20:44Speaker 4: He was our starting pitcher. He gave up two.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Runs only, even though they knew exactly what he was throwing.
- 20:50Speaker 3: That's a nasty pitch to throw. And listen, you know,
- 20:54Speaker 3: I'm not a big fan of the cutter that much
- 20:56Speaker 3: on anybody. Cam Schlittler, him, you know, Corey Kluber. I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 3: just guys, the name, I think that's one of the
- 21:02Speaker 3: easiest pitches to hit when it comes to out of
- 21:06Speaker 3: the sinker cutter and four seamer, in my opinion.
- 21:09Speaker 4: You can see that.
- 21:10Speaker 3: It's just a little bit of a tilt, and I
- 21:12Speaker 3: thought maybe that pitch they kind of went to just
- 21:14Speaker 3: a little bit too much. But again, he pitched well,
- 21:18Speaker 3: and I'm talking about that first inning. So for him, honestly,
- 21:23Speaker 3: fantastic start. I think he can build on that as well.
- 21:27Speaker 2: I mean, you were just talking about it, Todd, and
- 21:28Speaker 2: I'm so glad you brought up about him pitching in
- 21:32Speaker 2: the gold medal game. People are going to be like, wow,
- 21:34Speaker 2: those games are not as important. It was huge. Todd,
- 21:39Speaker 2: the environment of any kind of international game. So Nick
- 21:44Speaker 2: being able to throw this game, he had that experience. Yes,
- 21:49Speaker 2: he's a veteran. Yes, he set a tone for this
- 21:52Speaker 2: pitching staff that even if things go awry like they did,
- 21:56Speaker 2: I'm not saying they went off the rails. They just
- 21:58Speaker 2: didn't go the way you'd hope. And then to settle
- 22:01Speaker 2: down like he did, that's the type of thing that
- 22:04Speaker 2: other pitchers can feed off of. For the rest of
- 22:07Speaker 2: the series, other pitchers that haven't been in this moment.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I don't see, you know, I don't see where Freddie
- 22:13Speaker 2: Peralta is pitched in a gold medal game or a,
- 22:17Speaker 2: you know, a World Series game. And I think these
- 22:21Speaker 2: younger pitchers, younger than Nick, can feed off of that.
- 22:24Speaker 2: And it could be a real, it could be a
- 22:26Speaker 2: real bonus for the race.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Agreed. 100%.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I want to give lab two for all smiles. Jackson
- 22:34Speaker 1: Cheerio is an RBI machine in the postseason, and he's
- 22:36Speaker 1: a baby in the league still. And also, newsflash, I
- 22:41Speaker 1: don't think I'm fooling anyone here, and I'm sure the
- 22:43Speaker 1: Rays are well aware, but be careful on first pitch. Why?
- 22:48Speaker 1: First pitch gets a knock, line drive off the cutter
- 22:52Speaker 1: in the first inning. That's the cutters we're talking about
- 22:54Speaker 1: with Nick Martinez, right, to set the tone there, and
- 22:56Speaker 1: he scores the first run for this team. And then,
- 22:58Speaker 1: I mean, those are the two innings, right? It's the
- 23:00Speaker 1: first inning. And then they get the extra run in
- 23:03Speaker 1: the seventh with Churio first pitch sinker. That was too
- 23:07Speaker 1: much middle of the plate, opposite field. And that's it, right?
- 23:11Speaker 1: That was off Kevin Kelly there. And he drives in
- 23:14Speaker 1: a run. So he's a part of two out of
- 23:15Speaker 1: the three runs for Milwaukee. And we've been seeing this consistently.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Don't look at the batting average in the postseason at
- 23:21Speaker 1: 205 or even the on base for 238. If you
- 23:23Speaker 1: watch every playoff game like we do, you see how
- 23:25Speaker 1: impactful he is, Kratz. 100%.
- 23:29Speaker 2: At his age, he already holds the Milwaukee Brewers postseason
- 23:33Speaker 2: RBI record. He's like seven years old. And what I
- 23:39Speaker 2: loved about that at bat, and we talk about this
- 23:41Speaker 2: all the time with as big league hitters, you talk
- 23:44Speaker 2: about it. Some guys can do it. Some guys don't.
- 23:48Speaker 2: But the best ones do it. You have a sinker baller,
- 23:51Speaker 2: Kevin Kelly. If you try to pull that ball, I'm
- 23:53Speaker 2: saying even if you try to stay up the middle
- 23:55Speaker 2: with that ball, one, you're never going to stay on
- 23:57Speaker 2: the slider. Two, you're going to hit a ground ball
- 24:01Speaker 2: to the left side. Where does he end up getting
- 24:04Speaker 2: a base hit? Is it on the ground? Absolutely. So
- 24:06Speaker 2: hard to elevate his pitches. But if you stay that direction...
- 24:10Speaker 2: chances are good things are going to happen. And what
- 24:13Speaker 2: do the Brewers do more than any team in baseball?
- 24:17Speaker 2: They hit the ball to the opposite field. That's why
- 24:20Speaker 2: they're going to drive runs in because there's RBIs. While
- 24:24Speaker 2: there's RBIs over the fence, there's RBIs in the opposite field.
- 24:28Speaker 2: If you're able to elevate oppo, there's even more RBIs
- 24:31Speaker 2: than just through the hole to the opposite way.
- 24:36Speaker 3: And listen, we talked to Todd, um, Just forgetting his
- 24:40Speaker 3: last name. And what did he say today? The Brewers,
- 24:44Speaker 3: he was a beat writer. I forget what he does
- 24:47Speaker 3: for the Brewers.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Yeah, beat writer. Well, he's one of the Milwaukee Journal
- 24:49Speaker 1: Sentinel guys.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I asked him today, what is the X factor, pretty much?
- 24:54Speaker 3: And he said, Jackson Churrio. And he was spot on,
- 24:58Speaker 3: at least for game one. And I got a feeling
- 25:00Speaker 3: if he doesn't do well in game two, that's why
- 25:02Speaker 3: they're probably going to lose. So I thought that's what
- 25:05Speaker 3: he was going to say, and he was spot on.
- 25:07Speaker 3: He knows the team well. you know, like the back
- 25:09Speaker 3: of his hand. So a guy like Churio getting on
- 25:12Speaker 3: like that, fantastic. And they're going to win more games
- 25:15Speaker 3: if he keeps rolling.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a run scoring catalyst. This plays to one
- 25:20Speaker 1: of the old school versus new school arguments. What does
- 25:24Speaker 1: an RBI mean or what does a table setter mean?
- 25:27Speaker 1: Jackson Churio. Watch Jackson Churio ABs in the postseason. You're like, oh,
- 25:30Speaker 1: big moment, Churio. It's true, right? I don't care. Like, Kratz,
- 25:35Speaker 1: I mean, you've talked about this. Is anybody– Exactly. Honey
- 25:39Speaker 1: Nut Cheerio. That's good. I like that. He's sweet. He's
- 25:42Speaker 1: good for you. He's part of a balanced breakfast of
- 25:45Speaker 1: scoring runs. And Kratz, you've told me, thank you. Someone
- 25:48Speaker 1: said I look tired. My eyes are small and I
- 25:51Speaker 1: don't sleep much, but I'm fine.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I'm not tired.
- 25:54Speaker 1: They're always like this. I just don't have eyes wide open.
- 25:57Speaker 1: But Kratz, I digress. Jackson Cheerio is somebody that sniffs RBIs.
- 26:03Speaker 1: And you mentioned in a show maybe five days ago
- 26:06Speaker 1: how Winning players don't care what their postseason stats look like,
- 26:11Speaker 1: and nobody really remembers them. You remember the moments. Jackson
- 26:14Speaker 1: Turio is the moment.
- 26:16Speaker 2: He's a moment man, 100%. He gets it. He understands,
- 26:21Speaker 2: even to the point you go back to the Mason
- 26:22Speaker 2: Miller at-bat. If he tries to pull that pitch that
- 26:26Speaker 2: he drove back up the middle, he never stays on
- 26:29Speaker 2: the slider before. And if you don't understand what I'm
- 26:32Speaker 2: talking about, then it's hard to explain hitting in a short, like,
- 26:37Speaker 2: 30-second clip. He stayed off of that breaking ball down
- 26:42Speaker 2: in the dirt against Mason Miller. He hammers the fastball
- 26:45Speaker 2: back up the middle. He understands and his heart rate
- 26:49Speaker 2: goes a little slower. They follow the best players in
- 26:52Speaker 2: the biggest moments with those like whoop bands or whatever
- 26:56Speaker 2: they are and their heart rate goes down in the
- 27:00Speaker 2: big moments. And it's okay if your heart rate goes
- 27:03Speaker 2: up in those moments. You're just not him. And Churio
- 27:06Speaker 2: has been him this postseason and every postseason before this.
- 27:11Speaker 2: And he's only– I mean, he's just in the league.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Yeah. And I want to finish all smiles this way.
- 27:18Speaker 1: And Todd, Father, you'll like this because I've been paying
- 27:21Speaker 1: close attention to the chat. There's Brewers fans that are
- 27:24Speaker 1: foaming at the mouth. They've been waiting for this moment.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I just– I want– And they're talking trash. They're like,
- 27:30Speaker 1: it's sweep city. There's brooms getting thrown up here. There's
- 27:33Speaker 1: comments like, I'm so pissed. We're not going to be
- 27:35Speaker 1: able to clinch at home because we're going to clinch
- 27:37Speaker 1: at the drop. We're one game in. You won by
- 27:40Speaker 1: a run. Have a little bit of respect for the
- 27:42Speaker 1: opponent here. They're like, this is what the AL is.
- 27:45Speaker 1: They're trash. The race, in my mind, would have been
- 27:50Speaker 1: a playoff team in the National League. were there some
- 27:52Speaker 1: teams that made the playoffs in the American league that
- 27:54Speaker 1: did not look like they should be in the post season?
- 27:56Speaker 1: No doubt about it. The rays were not one of
- 27:58Speaker 1: those teams. So I still think this could be a
- 28:00Speaker 1: very entertaining series. And also Todd father, if you're a
- 28:06Speaker 1: Brewers fan and you didn't feel a little bit nervous
- 28:08Speaker 1: in the ninth inning, then you don't have a heartbeat
- 28:12Speaker 1: or something. I mean, you should feel nervous.
- 28:14Speaker 4: You haven't seen your team.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Like this in a long time. It's a one run
- 28:17Speaker 1: game after the, challenge and you're like damn who's this
- 28:20Speaker 1: Johnny DeLuca guy if he hits a freaking homer we're in.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Trouble yeah no listen yeah you need to have if
- 28:27Speaker 3: you're a Brewers fan your heart was beating for sure
- 28:29Speaker 3: I don't care my heart was beating because I was
- 28:31Speaker 3: excited to see the finish so if you're any sort
- 28:34Speaker 3: of baseball fan your heart was beating like okay we
- 28:37Speaker 3: got a battle here this is what you want to
- 28:39Speaker 3: see in the ninth inning and I was listening to
- 28:41Speaker 3: Smoltzy talk a little bit at the end there he
- 28:44Speaker 3: thinks this is going to happen more than none if
- 28:45Speaker 3: that's the case Watch baseball now, guys, because it's going
- 28:50Speaker 3: to be fun times, and you're going to see some
- 28:52Speaker 3: comebacks in the ninth inning, which will be pretty cool.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Yeah, in game two, you're going to have Drew Rasmussen
- 28:57Speaker 1: against Logan Henderson, which is an awesome pitching matchup. Rasmussen
- 29:00Speaker 1: used to be in the Brewers' organ. I love how
- 29:02Speaker 1: they cheered Freddie, and they booed Rasmussen. Not that Rasmussen
- 29:07Speaker 1: did anything. He's one of the nicer dudes in the game,
- 29:09Speaker 1: really accessible, but he doesn't have the history like Freddie does,
- 29:13Speaker 1: of course, in Milwaukee.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I said you were going to cheer Freddie. I said
- 29:17Speaker 2: they were going to cheer Freddie. Of course. And everyone
- 29:20Speaker 2: was getting after me. They're like, what are you kidding me?
- 29:23Speaker 2: He left. I'm like, he didn't leave. He wanted to stay.
- 29:26Speaker 2: He wanted them to trade for Tarek Scouble and have
- 29:29Speaker 2: a year of Tarek Scouble with Freddie in Milwaukee. And
- 29:32Speaker 2: he wanted to do this.
- 29:33Speaker 1: He signed a team-friendly extension to start. And then they didn't.
- 29:36Speaker 1: What you do is if you like him, then you
- 29:38Speaker 1: you go back to him you call him again and
- 29:40Speaker 1: i guarantee you he would have done it right when
- 29:42Speaker 1: we have freddie on again we can ask him in
- 29:43Speaker 1: the offseason hey if the brewers had called you two
- 29:46Speaker 1: three years into this current deal to do another one
- 29:49Speaker 1: he absolutely would have done it they just didn't do
- 29:51Speaker 1: it and that's fine and now he goes to free
- 29:52Speaker 1: agency and he's gonna get a little cashish because he's
- 29:56Speaker 1: been thriving with the race and we'll get to see
- 29:58Speaker 1: him You know how, you know, I didn't get to
- 30:03Speaker 1: get this line in on FT during the afternoon today,
- 30:06Speaker 1: but I said, Freddie's a perfect fit with the Rays.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And some people would say, oh, well, any great pitchers
- 30:12Speaker 1: are perfect fit with any team. Nope. He was not
- 30:14Speaker 1: a perfect fit with the Mets. I'm sorry. It didn't work.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Whatever was being told and whatever was being executed.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Matt said they were trying to do the same thing
- 30:23Speaker 3: with him and it just, it just didn't work out.
- 30:26Speaker 4: So, okay.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Either way, then you have a massive problem. If you're
- 30:30Speaker 1: trying to do the same thing and then he goes
- 30:31Speaker 1: to the race and five minutes later, he's one of
- 30:33Speaker 1: the best pitchers in baseball. There's no excuse that makes
- 30:36Speaker 1: you sound good, right? It's either, oh, we didn't have
- 30:38Speaker 1: these changes because he made five changes. It wasn't one change.
- 30:41Speaker 1: He made a lot of changes. Or if he does
- 30:43Speaker 1: make the changes and you're like, oh, we knew that.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Then I'm like, well, then why weren't you doing that?
- 30:46Speaker 1: You don't have any pull with your pitching staff. You
- 30:48Speaker 1: can't talk your pitching staff in anything. When a dude
- 30:50Speaker 1: has a five and a half ERA, you can't tell
- 30:52Speaker 1: him a change and he won't do anything. And he's
- 30:53Speaker 1: one of the nicest dudes in the sport. He's smiling
- 30:56Speaker 1: all day in Milwaukee. And speaking of all smiles, right,
- 30:59Speaker 1: even in the pregame when they were doing the whole
- 31:02Speaker 1: pomp and circumstance, he's smiling. So either way, it doesn't
- 31:04Speaker 1: sound good. He's a stud.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Whoever said that, you're like, that sounds worse. Just leave it.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Just leave it be. Make it look like we're inept.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Not that we knew and we were doing the same thing.
- 31:16Speaker 1: It wasn't three starts like they traded him in. mid
- 31:21Speaker 1: July or the trade deadline was in August. I don't
- 31:24Speaker 1: remember the exact day, but they had plenty of months
- 31:26Speaker 1: with Freddie P and he looked nothing like he does now.
- 31:30Speaker 1: But anyway, back to Milwaukee, they win. They are all smiles.
- 31:33Speaker 1: They take game one. We're heading into game two. This
- 31:35Speaker 1: was awesome though. I was looking forward to an entertaining
- 31:37Speaker 1: game like this and we certainly got it in game one.

- 32:11Speaker 1: Before the game, we're excited about that. And we'll have
- 32:14Speaker 1: postgame shows again next week. So after game three, And
- 32:18Speaker 1: then we'll see how the rest of the series goes.
- 32:21Speaker 1: But we had five hours of programming today on the
- 32:24Speaker 1: FT network. So we went one to three. I'm going
- 32:27Speaker 1: to East Coast time here. Then we did six to eight.
- 32:30Speaker 1: And that was at Catalano Square. It was packed. We
- 32:33Speaker 1: had a ton of fan questions. It was a really
- 32:34Speaker 1: good watch. It was fun. That was Alana, Kevin Pillar,
- 32:37Speaker 1: and Corey Knabel out there. And they're doing another show
- 32:40Speaker 1: at Catalano Square at the Fox One pop-up activation. It's
- 32:44Speaker 1: a 90s throwback set. Look at that. That's really cool
- 32:47Speaker 1: and great camera work, too, to show everything going on there.
- 32:50Speaker 1: It gives you the cozy living room or basement vibes
- 32:53Speaker 1: wherever you used to.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Watch a ballgame.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Nice and tight.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:57Speaker 1: That's how it was, though. I mean, for me, you
- 33:00Speaker 1: grow up with your siblings and your fam, and everyone's
- 33:03Speaker 1: kind of bunched up on the couch watching the little TV.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Kratzy had his own cell phone by himself. He was picky.
- 33:10Speaker 4: He was too big, and I was hoping.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Yeah, he was VCR recording all the games and then
- 33:15Speaker 1: watching them like a nerd, but it was working for him.
- 33:19Speaker 2: And I had a beanbag. I wasn't allowed on the couch.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I wasn't allowed on the couch even when I was
- 33:23Speaker 2: in the big leagues. My parents didn't let me on
- 33:27Speaker 2: the couch. My dad had his own recliner. I had
- 33:30Speaker 2: a beanbag on the floor. That's the only thing the
- 33:32Speaker 2: set's missing. But look, if you want baseball content, you
- 33:35Speaker 2: have to hit subscribe because we're bringing it– honestly, we're
- 33:39Speaker 2: not bringing it with like– This Bobo, I don't know,
- 33:44Speaker 2: pomp and circumstance I think you get with other places.
- 33:48Speaker 2: It's honest. We were sitting on a couch that was corduroy. Checkered.
- 33:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Thank you. Exactly. Giving you a variety here. You're getting
- 33:57Speaker 1: the daytime show, the pregame show. We're doing most of
- 34:00Speaker 1: the postgame shows here for the World Series. Besides tomorrow,
- 34:04Speaker 1: we'll do the rest for you. We appreciate everyone watching.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Todd father, Kratz, Braun, fun, fun game. One brewers take
- 34:12Speaker 1: it three, two, and we'll see a six o'clock Eastern
- 34:16Speaker 1: five o'clock local. If you're in Milwaukee, stop by over
- 34:19Speaker 1: at Catalano square. We'll see you then on FT.
