[upbeat music] Welcome,
0:17
welcome everyone to Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 89. 89. 89. Jake Haigh- Good year... popped into the show notes, which don't exist [laughs] for this show. Yes, I know.
0:30
[laughs] Well, they, they normally take a second to re- reload, but- Yeah... if there's nothing to reload, then- Well- As Tom Petty would say, we're free ballin'. Free ballin'. Yeah.
0:39
Well, it's definitely been a busy week for everyone, I think. I, you know, there was kind of that Thanksgiving thing in the middle there- Mm... sort of. Oh, yes. And then December snuck up on me. No kidding.
0:52
[laughs] So it's, uh, what is it? December- 2nd... 3rd, 4th? Tomorrow's the 3rd. It's my daughter's 15th birthday. So yesterday was her birthday. That's right, she got- [laughs] Yesterday. She, we had such a great day.
1:05
And tomorrow is the Rampage. Rampage. And it's Global Fat Bike Day. And Global Fat Bike Day. Kobe brought in his, uh, wheel over there. See how worn out it is? [laughs] His tire, it's like, it's completely bald.
1:20
Bald fat bike tire. Oh, yeah. I mean, they did, they did- Doesn't he have two of them that are bald now? Yeah. They did- Wow... used to make bald fat bike tires. Yeah, I know. They were awesome.
1:28
I wish they still had them. I do too. Somehow, um, Mike and Berta found tan sidewall versions of them. Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Those are nice. I would actually like- All right... to see a thick, slick fat tire.
1:41
Ooh, that would be awesome. Wouldn't that [laughs] be a great tire? My, so my only complaint with them is they ma- they're completely silent when you skid.
1:50
There's actually no car crash squeal that I love coming up on a crowd of people and just being like- Oh... eee. [laughs] You know what does that? Big apples. [laughs] Oh, yeah. And they make so much noise. Yeah.
2:00
Yes, they do. Yeah, I think that, uh, fat bikes definitely need slick tires. Yeah. Or at least, you know, road-ish tires.
2:10
Somebody just, I forgot to put it in the show notes, but there's a drop bar fat bike from one of the smaller builders out there. Mm. Black Foot Sheep-ville. Yeah. Not Black Sheep, but somebody.
2:22
That's, that's, you know, and that's for guys like George who are machined up at the Broken Spoke, you know? We haven't, we haven't- He'd have a drop bar... we haven't talked to George in a while.
2:32
That would be awesome to see George. We should make that happen. He's a great guy. You know what? Wonder what's happening with the Snow Crown series this year. Yeah. I- Yeah...
2:42
been kinda out of touch working on the new space. How's that coming along there, Greg? Well- New space, good... it's coming along. Yeah. It's a cool space.
2:50
It's gonna be really neat when it's all finished out with everyone's- It's not coming along-... stuff in... fast enough to move into it just yet, but- No. That's all right. It would go really well up in Door County.
3:04
Mm-hmm. What with all the doors and all. Uh-huh. See where you're going with that. Yeah. Well, the, it's a very fluid space. There's a bunch of changes that are happening.
3:15
The conference room by the speakeasy has moved, and- Uh, uh... there's, uh, there's just a lot of activity and people coming in. There's, I...
3:25
Who's the dude that does the kayaks and canoe stuff, and does the climbing bit- Oh... down at Turner? He is, he, he, Jody. Is it?
3:36
It's, it's a- It's, I'm not sure if it's him, but there's a kayaking and, and- Yeah, that's who he is. That's exactly- He's coming into the space and bringing kayaks and- That's a good space 'cause he's-... stuff...
3:46
usually got them parked out in the street on, uh, he lives on, uh, Chambers. No. No. Um, Dousman. Yeah. You should get your Google Maps out, folks, and- [laughs] Check out-... check out Dousman... Dousman.
3:58
I used to live on Dousman. Yeah. It's a nice- Twice... That's the hoity-toity area of River West... two times, two times Dousman. Oh, nice. Nice, nice. One's just here off of Locust in the Wauwatosa of River West.
4:08
Oh yeah, that's a nice little area. Yeah. And then one's further south in the slums of River West over by The Gig. Yeah. 2508, that one. I don't remember the other one. Uh. But yeah, it was great.
4:18
It was like a three block long, you can't get out the other end so nobody comes in kind of a street. Yeah. Like that. That's Carter Honeycutt from Exposed Foreheads up in there. Nice. Yeah.
4:27
Been really digging my Exposed Foreheads. Got two new 45s in the mail today. Exposed Forehead? No. Oh. No. Abby Gene and Field Report. I don't have any 45s. Abby Gene's is really cool 'cause it's blue bubblegum.
4:45
Oh, nice. [laughs] And it's got a pretty serious weight to it for a single. [laughs] I mean, it's like, ooh, this is a nice piece of vinyl. [laughs] What do, what do they get for a 45 these days?
4:54
Uh, I bought these, uh, as part of, um, WMSC's, um, website, and I forgot to get the hot, hot, hot sauce. I feel terrible about that.
5:03
[laughs] But they did, for all you listeners right now, if you go out there and shop, you spend $50, you can get a free bandana, meatball bandana. Can you mash that around your face like a mask? Uh, it's, you can. Okay.
5:13
And I happened to go for the five pack for $20. Right on. But the, uh, vinyl was 10 bucks a piece- Superb... for that one, and I think that was a very fair price. You hear that sound? What is that sound? I don't know.
5:25
Sounds like a rocket. Welcome to the radio program caller. Who do we have on the line? Hey, good evening, guys. It's Al, Al Roy from Ontario, Canada calling. Hey, Al Roy. Hey, Al Roy, what's up?
5:36
We haven't heard from you for a while. Not too much, guys. Yeah, it, it has been a while. I actually had, um, planned on phoning you guys on the, uh, show, the 69th show there, 'cause I got an infantile sense of humor.
5:48
[laughs] But, uh, it, it, we had a bit of a, [laughs] a bit of a problem with the calling card and, uh, whatnot, so it, yeah, didn't, didn't quite pan out. So, uh, tonight was the night and I thought, "You know what?
5:58
It's a great night on the eve of Global Fat Bike Day," so I thought I'd, uh, give you guys a ring and see how things are going and, uh, on your end, and, uh, yeah, just catch up quick. Yeah, right on. Yeah.
6:08
Uh, well, our Global Fat Bike Day is going to be a, uh, unannounced affair, I guess. 'Cause it- That's a good way to put it... it, it isn't, we're not going to do the big gathering.
6:19
What, what's it like up there in the, in the Great White North? It... Well, actually, the last time I phoned you guys, I was, we was pretty, pretty level. And through the summer there was, uh...
6:30
it seemed like things were starting to, to s- you know, there wasn't too many cases, but now r- that everything's kinda back to semi-somewhat normal, it, the cases have gone up and they're toying with different color codes and different closures.
6:45
Some places are closed and some are open. It's, it's kinda tough to navigate what you might or might not have, like, uh, to be able to go or do o- on any given day. So it could [laughs] you know, it could, uh...
6:57
they're still doing the two-meter distance, uh, wear your mask, uh, you know, that sort of thing. But we're pretty m- You know, things... That's been just pretty static for the last quite a few months, but, uh- Yeah.
7:09
Yeah... yeah. The, not, not much has changed since the last time I talked to you guys, unfortunately. Well, I gotta say, two meters is, is further than six feet, so you guys are probably safer than we are. Barely.
7:18
[laughs] By six, by six inches or so. By, by, by several... [laughs] Some, maybe by an inch or so, yeah. [laughs] By about six inches, yeah. All right. Well. Have you been able to keep working- Yeah...
7:26
and stuff even through this? Yes. Yeah. Excellent. Actually, yeah. We were, we were pretty steady with, uh, with my job it was pretty, pretty steady.
7:33
It was, uh, you know, on a call as need basis, basically, is we had a, we... I work for the water department- Yeah, yeah... so it's if something breaks, uh- You go... we fix it. So that, yeah, that's been pretty steady.
7:43
That's, that's an ongoing thing. Wa- You know, there's certain, uh, utilities that don't really, they don't have any knowledge or care of, uh, the COVID at all, so they- Yeah...
7:51
they break and they, or they work or they don't, and [laughs] somebody has to be there to fix them, so. Right. I understand. Yeah. Sounds like our president doesn't have a care for COVID. [laughs] That could be scary.
8:01
It seems as though. Boom. Boom. I mean, I, you guys are, are closer to the... What? Pardon me? I don't know. It just, it, there's, there's pandemonium here. A p- a pandemic pandemonium- Yeah...
8:10
because there's, there's no consensus or any kind of national sort of, "You should be doing this stuff." There's just a hodgepodge of local things that make...
8:20
It doesn't make any sense, 'cause you cross the street and it's totally different than it is in, in- Yeah... in a different, you know, area. Right. Yeah. No, for us it's, it's pretty, it's pretty even across the board.
8:31
Everybody's, uh, told almost the id- identical thing. And yeah, we've, we've been watching the news, uh, for you guys and stuff, and it, it does seem very f- I mean, there's no...
8:41
Like you said, it, it could change from state to state, town to town, and it sounds- Yeah... it's pretty crazy. Because up here you're not gonna get necessarily screamed at if you're wearing a mask.
8:50
People are pretty good about it. But down there, it seems like it could be a bone of contention depending on where you are. If you're either wearing or not wearing a mask, uh, it could [laughs]
8:59
you know- They can escalate... things could become violent, I guess, probably. Yep. Oh, yeah. Oh, it has many times. Oh, yeah. Many times.
9:02
Like the early, uh, the, like, early in the pandemic, the one establishment that had the, uh, "If you're wearing a mask, we will be assuming that you are trying to rob us, and we will act accordingly."
9:14
[laughs] [laughs] That was, uh, that- Oh, yeah. That was, uh, the, the Thirsty Fox... yeah. That, that- Calling you out, Thirsty Fox. I was like, damn, uh, mm-hmm. I, wow.
9:22
Well, we had, we had planned on using that, uh, establishment on a ride. [laughs] And after that we're like- It was like, fuck you... yeah, we're gonna, we're gonna skip those guys this... [laughs] That's pretty scary.
9:32
So- I mean, for, for simple self-preservation you, you gotta do for- Yeah... what's safe for you. I mean, it- Right. Yeah... you know what I mean? I mean. That's, that's why, the way I'm taking it. Yeah. Yeah.
9:39
If nothing else, think of it that wa- I mean, if, yeah. [laughs] It's like, just be selfish, dude. [laughs] Think about number one. [laughs] What, uh- What are your Global Fat Bike plans tomorrow? Um, you know what?
9:51
It starts, uh, pretty, pretty early. Uh, we've got a little bit of snow here, actually. I don't know if it's, uh, snowing your way, but- Oh...
9:56
we had about, you know, half a foot there earlier on in the week, and now it's sort of warmed up, so it's getting a little bit crunchy and packed down, which is okay. And then, uh,
10:05
it'll be nearly, it'll probably be about thir- it'll, zero degrees Celsius, 33 Fahrenheit. Yeah. So it's warm enough to drink beer in the woods, for sure. So we'll- Yeah...
10:14
we're just gonna head out from the house here and, and, uh, you know, kind of pick up a couple people here and there. It's not gonna be a huge... We're not really organizing a huge event or anything necessarily.
10:23
Right, right. But you'll see people at certain spots. There's cer- a couple of trails near the, near my place that, that, um, is q- quite popular. We wanna say they haven't gone quite Hollywood.
10:32
They're not actually naming each an in- individual trail. But it's, it's pretty busy there on some weekends. And, um, yeah.
10:37
So we'll just kind of putter around and find a good spot to geek into the woods and have a nice cold beer, and that's, that's sort of the plan anyway.
10:44
We'll just see where it takes us, how long we, until we get hungry or tired, and then we come home, but [laughs] yeah. Right on. That seems to make sense. We are men, after all. Yeah.
10:51
Well, down here it's, uh, also, uh, Santa Rampage Day, which normally would be a very big deal in Milwaukee, 'cause it's a fundraiser for the Wisconsin Bike Fed.
11:02
And there's often several th- a thousand, uh, thousands of people- Yes... on the very, uh, main part of the ride.
11:09
But I think it's gonna be just a lot more disparate Santas, and many of them on fat bikes, but not the, you know, the big conglomeration of people.
11:22
The, the, like with the Santa Rampage, and most people are wearing the, the official Santa style hat. Does it fit over the helmet, or do you just... Like, I mean, after- Well...
11:30
a few beers, I, I like ha- wearing my helmet. I don't, I don't mind at all. [laughs] You, have you ca- But I have a hard time figuring how to put the, the hat over the helmet.
11:35
I, I have a, yeah, I have a helmet I wear once a year that has a hat on it. Yeah. You can get creative. Um, that's, that's not a real big deal. You can, you can figure out ways.
11:44
But, uh, it is a snail's pace in most of the, at the major parts of the ride. Uh, it's- Right... you know. Even if you've had a couple of beers and you fell down, your head would be the least thing to worry about.
11:56
So J- JK is like, he, JK's like the opposite of me. I, I got a, I got a mall Santa suit that was a rental that I got for a really good price, but JK has the, what do they call that thing? A Snuggie? Yeah. The Santa Suit.
12:08
A Santa [laughs] Snuggie. And, and the, um, Joe Boxer, uh, Santa lounge pants, like- Yeah... pajamas essentially. It d- it's perfect. Absolutely. And, and tent sealed. Yeah.
12:23
Tent sealed and- Have you re-tent sealed it this year? Uh, yes I did. I did it- When? I did it two days ago. [laughs] [laughs] Man. All right. So it should be all ready to go. All right, what- Thank you, future me.
12:37
[laughs] What's your, uh, what's your fat bike ride right now, your, your bike? Well, the, the bike itself, like I actually, I call...
12:46
I put on the winter tires, which is the, just the Vee Rubber, just some Vee Rubber, miscellaneous Vee Rubber, I think they were snowshoes or bulldozers that I had, uh, purchased from a friend.
12:55
And it just, I just saddle them up with my, uh, 2019, uh, Norco Bigfoot, and that's the one that I ride routinely. I ride in the summer, winter.
13:03
I don't, I don't think it should be relegated to just one particular season. Right. I love it. It's just a nice bike to ride.
13:09
I did a really considerably long ride on it, and I f- and it wasn't, I wasn't the least bit sore after doing a r- really long two-day bike packing trip. So I'm, I'm very, very happy with the bike.
13:19
It's fit well, and it feels good. So it's- Nice... yeah. We see a couple of those around. It's all around, even like that. Yeah. Not too many. We see a few.
13:25
I, I mean, it's, it's a company that I've always been impressed with because they give you a good value for the buck. Um, but it's not, uh, something that we see in the Midwest a lot.
13:35
I think the West Coast got a little bit more Norco rep out that way. Right. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, it's definitely, it's a definitely sort of a more West Coast. And we get them here. There's just different dealers.
13:46
We'll, um, you know, you, you could go to one dealer, and you'll, they'll have one specific bike. And, but I'll tell you something that I did see that I thought was super cool today.
13:53
I, I went into my friend's, uh, I have two friends actually. Both of them own bike shops. And, uh, I saw a, uh, Chromag, uh, fat bike, which was absolutely incredible to look at, and, and they're, they're very high end.
14:06
They, they're f- they come from, uh, British Columbia as well, near, uh, near Whistler. And, uh, they, they do f- most, I think it's mostly frames. They'll, you know, custom frame stuff like that.
14:17
But this fat bike, uh, it was just really, it's just such a nice bike to look at. And it, it, uh, you could, you could just feel h- high quality just by looking at it.
14:26
It was a great looking bike, and I don't think they make them anymore necessarily, but I think that they did toy with the, with the frame for a couple of years there, and then I don't think that they mass produced them.
14:37
Yeah, I think they were one of the early ones, along with Schlick, that went with the more slack head tube and steeper seat tube. More like a- Mm-hmm... kinda like an all-mountain bike. Yeah. Yep. I remember those.
14:47
I- Yep... I've, I've- Yeah, they were... they may still be around. I'm not sure. That's something we should probably figure out. I think it's kinda interesting now that- Yes...
14:54
you know, Specialized jumped out of the game. I'm not sure about our buddies down in Waterloo, Ferdville there at Trek- Mm-hmm... uh, what they're gonna do.
15:02
But a lot of the smaller companies are, are back doing really interesting fat bike stuff now, and they may not be the same small company that was there before the, the big three jumped into the game, but now, you know.
15:15
Yeah. Oh, it, we, we caught the wave and then we left. Yeah. Hey, thanks very much for, you know, sucking the wind out of the sails of some little guys, but- Yeah. [laughs] Huh. Rant. Yeah, absolutely. Rant over.
15:27
[laughs] Let me move that soap box out of here. You guys do Top of the Hill yet? Uh, we were, uh, just about to do Top of the Hill- Oh... if I'm not mistaken. Gripes. Wait. Hey, oh, oh.
15:35
Maybe, do we have enough beer in our thing? Let's see. I need a beer. [bell ringing] All right. Well, we're at the top of the hill, but we might take a second to get- Ha- hang on. It's, the hills are...
15:44
it's a, it's a really hard climb- Hang on... and it's kinda flat at the top. Before we can start heading back down. I'll be right back. He ran, he ran out of battery power. [laughs] He's gotta use his damn legs, man.
15:54
He's down to four lights on his batteries. Oh, Lord. [laughs] What the, what, uh... Oh, here. But what we are dealing with- We'll do this. We'll push this button.
16:01
Yeah, we're, yeah, JK brought the beer, so he can tell you what we're drinking here, and then you can, uh, fill us in with what you got. This is from Good City- Absolutely...
16:09
Brewing here in lovely w- Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It's called Space Time, and it is the otherworldly cousin to Spare Time,
16:20
which is another IPA that I think it's a ha- I think this is a hazy There's a, this is a hazy with galaxy. 16 Pale Ale. Oh, is it? Oh, I don't know. It's not a hazy? Spirit. Spirit.
16:30
This has, this has a spaceman on the front, which is kinda interesting because- Yeah, so this is Space Time, not Spare Time. See, it's got a- So it's the cousin of it...
16:37
it's got a space guy, 'cause China just went to the moon, you know? Yeah, space force. Well, they didn't have a guy, but they're on the moon now, so. And you? Oh. Oh. [laughs] I,
16:50
my s- me, I'm actually having a, uh, a Cowbell Brewery, uh, Hazy Daze- Cowbell... hazy juicy IPA, and it's a 6% alcohol by volume. It's, it's, it's a fantastic brewery. That sounds all right.
17:02
Um, had the opportunity to visit this summer. Um, they're, it was a, uh, it's, it's kind of like a, it, it's a very environmental friendly place.
17:12
They recycle their water, and they donate to a bunch of charities, and they employ a bunch of the people in the town, and just a great, great brewery.
17:18
It's a, I wouldn't say a microbrewery by any chance, 'cause when you pull up to the actual brewery itself, it looks like a, it's kind of an out in the country, so it's a, looks almost like a barn, but a really nice barn.
17:30
So you can go in there and eat and, and, uh, they have all kinds of different, uh, food from around the different farmers that provide the, the meat and potatoes from the, from the farms. It's great. Great spot.
17:39
So I enjoy it quite a lot. That sound pretty fantastic. What's the name of the brewery? Cowbell. Cowbell. Cowbell. Cow- Cowbell. Cow... More- And it's gonna, it's gonna take us- We need more Cowbell... obviously.
17:50
[laughs] Absolutely. Is that in, is that in Ontario there somewhere? Yes, it is. It's about, uh, it's close, it's probably an, an hour and a half's drive from here. But, uh, you can do it by bike.
18:01
It just takes a lot longer than that. But, but it's, um, it's, uh, quite a little, quite a nice little town to visit. It's just a very, you know, quaint little, you know,
18:11
spot there, and it's, uh, they're, they got a few little, uh, like, uh, little, uh, crafty arts, uh, buildings and stuff to see up there.
18:17
But I mean, obvi- it was very, very quiet when we were up there, obviously, 'cause they're- You know, there's not a lot going on because of the COVID, but- Sure...
18:24
it's a very, it's a great spot to go check out, and definitely would do it again, for sure. Well, it's, I mean, I think with a lot of the small guys, it's, it's, uh, it's, it's a challenge.
18:32
Our Pabst Brewing, which obviously was a big thing here back in the olden times- Yeah... had come back and were brewing in Milwaukee again as, as Pabst Brewing House. Recently- Yeah...
18:44
learned that they're not gonna make it. They're gone. Yeah. Rip the cord pulled. Yep, unfortunate. But it was- Okay... it was a really a c- it was a cool place. It was in an old church from the 1850s, I believe. Mm-hmm.
18:52
And they had a really great stage and a bunch of great music all the time and when- Boy, those, somebody'll grab that. Yeah, it's a good venue, if nothing else, so. Oh, for sure. Yeah. For sure, yeah.
19:03
Well, you know- And, you know, that's coming up Make, make it back I mean, what, the 20th, I think they're killing it? Maybe. I think that's right. Don't know. There's gotta be an Owen sighting before then. An Owen.
19:11
I'm gonna bond. He's, he's gonna bond. Cool. Uh, so yeah. So the, the beer that you have from Cowbell is called again? It is the Hazy Daze. All right. Hazy Duty IPA. Cool.
19:26
I'm gonna- So it, yeah, it- I'm just, I'm back, I'm, I'm navigating to it on the web thingy now, so. [laughs] The interwebs.
19:32
Yeah, if, if, if you can find them on there, they, they have, I mean, they got all kinds of merchandise as well and- [laughs]... and, uh, it's kinda ne- it's just great Absinthe, Absinthe Landlord... quite special.
19:42
I like that one. That's a good name. Absinthe Landlord. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Well, that's actually one of the cool ones. Yeah.
19:47
[laughs] They have actually four different beers that they name from different, um, like, historical figures from the town of Blythe. And, and so there's, like, a story in the...
19:54
I love a beer with a story on the back of the can. It kinda tells you, so you got- Mm-hmm... something to do while you're drinking. You gotta, like, read it. Yeah.
20:00
[laughs] So yeah, there's some really interesting stuff there. Right on. I'm gonna put a link to it in the, uh, in the s- story on today. [laughs] Yeah. Excellent. Right on. All right, man. Okay.
20:14
Well, listen, I'm, I got to, I'm gonna check out now. But, uh, hey, have a great rest of the show. And, uh- Good ride tomorrow... I do listen every week. It's fantastic. You guys are doing a great job, so. Thanks.
20:23
Thanks. Stay safe. Yep. Have a good one. Talk to you soon. Yeah, you guys too. Definitely enjoy, uh, Global Fat Bike Day. You too. I'll be talking to you guys again. You betcha. Right on. Thanks for calling. Bye.
20:34
All right, no problem. Bye bye. Once again, we're saved- [laughs]... from oblivion by a, a, a random- A kindly caller... a kindly caller. Or a random pull off the street. Right.
20:46
[laughs] All right, we haven't heard from All Right f- uh- Wow... we'll have to look back and see- Been a while, yeah... when the last show he was on. Yeah.
20:50
But, uh, I always love to talk to people from north of the border because their take on stuff is- It's a little different...
20:57
I don't, you know, honestly, I don't think it's changed all that much up there in the, you know, 40 plus years I've been aware of what folks are like. It's not as divisive as down here. Or is it divisive? Yes. I know.
21:09
Why did, why... [laughs] Okay, so why do words change? Because it's a world- Inflections... yes, in a world- Tomato Pronunciations of, of words change... a world divided by a common language. Yeah. Right.
21:21
And- Regionalism... bunch of jackasses. Yeah. So. Like, we say herbs, and the British say herbs. You know why? 'Cause there's a fucking H in it. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, that was my- Not in that...
21:31
that was my Eddie Izzard moment. Thank you. [laughs] That's right. Eddie Izzard, is that person still around? Oh, yes. Huh, I have not seen such lately- Oh...
21:39
'cause there was some funny stuff back in the time of- Oh, yeah. Well, I was just revisiting old, old shows. Old, old ones. [laughs] Nice. Nice. Doc... So here's one of the names of the beer, Doc Purdue's Boxing Bruin.
21:52
That's nice. That could be. Yeah. I mean, if you have a brewery- Yeah... you gotta have a creative person to come up- Right... with names- Right... as well as a creative person- Or-... to come up with the brew...
21:59
and the description that- And the, and the artwork... you know. Yeah. It's clever. It's all good stuff. It's all about clever. Yeah. All my cans of beer will be completely the same. You will never know what's in it.
22:11
Yeah. [laughs] It's gonna be called Mystical Brewing. No, it's gonna be called Mystery Brewing. There you go. There you go. Generic. Probably already is a Mystery Brewing somewhere.
22:20
God, do you remember, remember when, like, there were- Generic... generic beer? Generic beer. You bet... beers and generic cigarettes- Cigarettes... where it was- So you could just put, like, a bar code on it... beer.
22:29
It was beans. Can- it was corn. They were all... Yeah. Yeah, yeah... there were generics of all that. Oh, it was insane. Then they went to store brands. I mean, just look... Yeah.
22:36
It looked like when you put the sunglasses on and they live- Yeah... and it was just... Oh... all black and white. Such a great movie. Now, now I see your, your before issue with your things, your cans.
22:48
When you have it like this, it only gets the one area. Oh, you think so? So if you point it at your mug, it will be more... There you go. Mug worthy. He, Tony wears a...
22:58
So Tony wears a, uh, a headset microphone, and it makes it hard for him to drink beer without, [laughs] without a straw. Mm. Actually, I have a titanium straw. I have one in my bag- Which-... but I didn't bring my bag.
23:11
So I got it from where, the place I get my knives from, and it's got an, it's got a, like, a 45-degree bevel on one edge- Yeah... so you can stab somebody in the jugular vein apparently. [laughs] All right.
23:22
I bet it's still a straw, and it's, works- Yeah... and it's titanium. Might need to kill someone. How you doing? You know who I've been getting an awful lot of, uh, emails from lately- Yeah...
23:30
is the, the titanium bong people. Oh, they still want you to- Danny Gooleebong or whatever it's called. I, I was- Well, there's the holiday season... I almost pulled the trigger. I'm- [laughs]...
23:39
I'm getting really close just 'cause they're so kick-ass. And now they have a titanium mug, which you don't have to put your bong water in. How, how would you...
23:49
I wonder how a titanium mug would do as far as heat dissipation. Probably just- 'Cause, like, stainless gets hot as hell. [laughs] Yeah, I have a mirror coffee mug I love. That's the, one of the greatest things I own.
24:00
Oh. It's a, just a camp sized with a cover on it, so you can... [slurps] Yeah. It keeps it warm for about two hours plus. Interesting. Well, that's at room temperature, not at- Yeah... you know. Yeah, below.
24:14
I don't know. That's just something to think about sometimes. So interestingly with temperature, how come zero degrees, uh, you know, Celsius-
24:22
And Fahrenheit are, you know, there's like, that's 30 different, but the, the meters are only three different if you add a couple inches or something. I know it's so far away.
24:31
I mean, you know, the difference between zero and 32 in Fahrenheit is a lot. Right. I don't get it. Metric. You see, that's the whole thing. Metric system. Freaking metric system. Yep. Yep.
24:41
If I would've been baptized in the waters- I uh, yeah... of said metric system, I would- I, kinda, that's funny you say it... I have it- 'Cause today I was- 'Cause I have to overthink it every damn time.
24:50
Thankfully he was- Yep... he gave us the conversions. He, yeah, he was good with it. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] It kept my brain on.
24:55
[laughs] I just know that a meter is 3.28 feet, so um- Yeah, I know it's like 39 and a half inches or something. Yeah. You know. Uh, I was reading reviews today for heaters 'cause my room is so cold, and uh,
25:05
the one complaint on this very fancy heater was it doesn't offer it in Celsius. [laughs] Like- In your, in your basement, uh- Office... lair? Yeah. I like my, um, oil-filled radiator looking heater. Is there a...
25:20
Those work well? It is so... Yeah, because it kind of just keeps radiating. Yeah. And it's beautiful. And it's under my desk in the basement lair. Yep.
25:28
And it, it keeps the whole underside, and then it kinda wafts out from underneath. Mm. It's beautiful. Definitely, in my opinion- They're, they're affordable too... the way to go. And it doesn't make any noise at all.
25:38
Right. Yeah. Like, you don't have a whirring fan sound like the jet that took off here earlier. [laughs] I'm like, well, I haven't heard that all year, 'cause this, our, our shop faces south.
25:48
And then when the sun's beating in here- It's hot... you don't, you don't need heat even when it's, you know, 20 degrees outside. Right. It's awesome. It's inexpensive.
25:56
Unlike the heat at the new joint, which is gonna be- That's gonna be expensive... [laughs] which is gonna be gruesome. Man, it's a lot of gas. I came up with a plan today.
26:03
For the first year, I'm gonna pay what I paid here for heat.
26:05
[laughs] I'm gonna take my electric bills and say, "Here's what I'll be paying for the next year for electricity and heat in the new space," because there's no metering there yet.
26:18
There's, I mean, there's no way to really- Mm... get the actual number until, um, We Energies gets everything hooked back up.
26:27
'Cause this building, I don't know how long that building was decommissioned for, but it was 10 years probably, that building. Was it that long? I mean- Well, the other one-...
26:33
the parking lot was still in use recently... yeah, the other one was being used. Yeah. The one further east. But that particular building, I think, has been decommissioned for quite a while. Oh, it's a hot space.
26:42
So I've been washing walls. How's it working? There's a lot of stuff on the walls. I don't know if it would be prudent to- Wear a mask? It would be prudent to wear a mask whether we had the COVID thing or not, but...
26:53
Yeah. Yeah, 'cause there's a lot of shit in that... That building had a lot of heavy stuff in it. I'd be- Well, the other, I mean, I don't, I think the building that we're in was more, mm, staging- Storage...
27:03
maybe, and storage. Okay. The other one is where all the lead acid batteries were made and stuff.
27:08
Uh, James drilled out the locks on a couple doors, and I f- we found in there, still working, a telecom room with a rack of, I don't know, maybe 40 batteries that were the battery backup. Nice.
27:22
And it still said 24 and a half volts, which apparently is what the telephone systems used. And it was just in there for however long it was in there. But the phones are not... There's no digital phone.
27:34
It's got push buttons, but that's it. So they're old. Yeah, yeah. Pots, plain old telephone. Well, and they went boopy, boopy boop still, but- Yeah... not tickety, tickety, tick, but- Right. Interesting. Anywho,
27:47
amazingly, thanks to Al Roy- We managed to kill time... we did it again. [laughs] And I- So I, you know what I'm thinking of? I'm pretty damn sure I'm, I'm gonna pull this for tomorrow. Doing the original route. Really?
28:04
Mm. You know- Well, the orig-... they have, they haven't, I mean, it hasn't been really done. I mean, there's been aspects of it. The original route went through Coppice and rode through El Rey's and stuff like that.
28:17
Well, yeah. So. Or, or the last- Are you- Before, before, before they did the spiderweb and then the procession from Towing So you're talking Holunder and, and that road. Yeah, we'll see.
28:29
Are you get- well, you need to get your fat bike tires on your bike. Get rid of them 29 plussers on there. Three inches is fat enough. I guess. Or are you gonna ride the low side? Yeah. I have to.
28:40
[laughs] I- Which are both three. [laughs] So. Gotta get my fat bike down. Those are, those are 1.95, so I don't know. But I, it's, I don't know. It's Santa Rampage. I don't know- Yeah...
28:48
if it warrants me riding a fat bike on it or not. I... Maybe. [laughs] Anywho. Yeah, you, you, you have all- Anyways... you have all night to sleep on that. Yeah. I got time. Have it, have it torment your dreams.
29:01
If you know, figure that out. I, if I could fix the flat on the, on the Maverick there, I might ride the Wiet. Wyatt. Oh, yeah. [laughs] Wiet. [laughs] Wiet. [laughs] Wyatt. [laughs] Hello. Hello, folks.
29:11
I think you can keep- Wow, what is this? And, and by the way- [laughs] Woo, space time... by the way, this, uh, this Hazy is only 5.4%, so you know, I can't blame it on the beer today. I thought it was 6.4.
29:20
And, and apparently, well, they didn't report any, uh- It's five... IBUs. Oh. At least, well, they didn't have it on their website, so this is, I think, is insanely limited release. Yeah. Cool. What's up? All right then.
29:34
Well- Buying local again, though... thanks for listening. N- show 90 next week, I guess we can't take that week off. Probably not. [laughs] Right. Well, we'll keep coming at you folks. Be safe.
29:43
I clear up that, uh- Park smart. Drive. After bike. If you're drinking, don't drive. If you're driving, don't drink.
29:53
[upbeat music]
