Transcript
- 0:00I am so I'm like a kid on Christmas morning every time I
- 0:03do this intro because I'm so grateful when anyone agrees to
- 0:08sit down with me and share their life stories all about adversity
- 0:13and overcoming it. So if you're new here, before I
- 0:15introduce and hand it over to my amazing guest before we get into
- 0:20that, my name is Bree. I am the host of this podcast.
- 0:24Obviously, Adventures and Adversity is a collection of
- 0:29stories. Really, what it is, is real
- 0:33people telling true stories about how they have turned
- 0:37life's adversity in its many, many forms.
- 0:40We all know that into an adventure.
- 0:44So I am super stoked for today because there's so many
- 0:49questions I have for you, Logan. Logan Walton, welcome.
- 0:53And I'd first of all, I wanted to thank you for sitting down
- 0:56with me today. Yeah.
- 0:57Thank you Brief for having me. It's a it's a pleasure to be on.
- 1:00Yeah, no. And you were introduced to me.
- 1:04I got to give a shout out to Adam, known by his Instagram as
- 1:09Big Adam, the safest guy in town.
- 1:13Like whenever you're around him, right?
- 1:15He is a private security professional.
- 1:17He was a few episodes ago. I can't even remember which one,
- 1:21but just look, look down if you're scrolling for Adam
- 1:26private security. Now, Logan, how do you know
- 1:29Adam? So I worked with Adam at my
- 1:32first like hospitality industry job in Scottsdale, AZ.
- 1:36We were both doing door host jobs, so checking IDs, just
- 1:40greeting gas, like sort of kind of simple stuff.
- 1:43And then security stuff on the side as well, in case we were
- 1:45ever dealing with, you know, people that were just trying to
- 1:49cause problems. Yeah, so you met him.
- 1:52OK, cool. So you know him and I know I'm
- 1:55going to put all your information in the show notes,
- 1:58but it's it sounds like you guys have got a great relationship
- 2:01now and I just like love you guys both.
- 2:03What I love about it is you both pump each other up and I love
- 2:07just like the genuine like you can tell you both want each
- 2:10other to succeed, which is amazing.
- 2:12Yeah, I mean, it's, I mean, he does amazing work and he's such
- 2:15a good dude and he's always hyping everybody.
- 2:18He knows that. That's why everybody loves them.
- 2:20He, he's a, he's amazing. I literally he's my new bestie.
- 2:25Mine too, yeah. That is, yeah, totally.
- 2:27He's like, yes, you could say that.
- 2:29OK, so Logan, so we have let's see, we were introduced via Adam
- 2:34via my producer Jack, shout out to you as well.
- 2:38And you have so many facets of you.
- 2:41I'm gonna brag about you for a second that I'm really
- 2:44interested in. And the reason why is I think
- 2:47there's a really interesting aspects of your life and and
- 2:51things you're working towards and things you're doing now.
- 2:53And I have no doubt that in each one of those areas, there's some
- 2:58adversity. Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:01It's been a, it's been, it's been a, it's been an interesting
- 3:04ride the last decade or so. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:07So where I'd like to start and then I will, I will stop
- 3:10talking. That does happen.
- 3:13First of all, I'm like kind of just like paint a picture of of
- 3:17what you got going on and then I'm gonna let you tell your
- 3:20story. So you are you are Logan, a
- 3:24pretty cool guy. Here's why.
- 3:26And he did not ask me to do this.
- 3:27Guys, I'm telling you, he's a humble guy.
- 3:30He is a political you are a political candidate for the 2026
- 3:35Arizona State Senate candidate LD 8.
- 3:40I'm looking at your Instagram here.
- 3:41If you're wondering what I'm talking about, look in the show
- 3:43notes for his Instagram. You are AGM at Empire
- 3:48Scottsdale, which I'll let you talk about that as well.
- 3:52Another thing, because I've been doing my research, you're also a
- 3:54twin. Yeah.
- 3:56You're. A twin.
- 3:57You're like, I'm not a stalker. I was just doing my research.
- 4:00Another cool thing about you. You played on the practice squad
- 4:05for the Mercury? Yeah, with Sophie Cunningham and
- 4:08all. Yep, just for a little bit.
- 4:10Yeah, we had a couple years about it.
- 4:12Yeah, very. Cool.
- 4:14Yeah, so I just want to hear about your experiences.
- 4:20I want to just like go into your story and just kind of learn
- 4:24about who you are. And then I'm going to ask a
- 4:26bunch of questions, but we're just going to have coffee and
- 4:29chat. Yeah.
- 4:30So, yeah. So I've lived down in Arizona
- 4:33almost a dozen years now. So I've been that, moved down
- 4:35here in 2014, originally went to ASU and then as well as Chandler
- 4:39Gilbert Community College. And then from there I started
- 4:42working in my hospitality industry.
- 4:43So restaurants, bars, certain other venues and just kind of
- 4:48learning anywhere from bussing, dishwashing, serving, cooking,
- 4:53kind of did everything all at once at some points.
- 4:56And so from there I made a jump over to door host Slash
- 5:00security, working over there with Adam and just really
- 5:04starting getting into that entertainment district and
- 5:06meeting so many different walks of life, tourists, locals, kind
- 5:10of everything. So I can really fell in love
- 5:12with like how many people you get to meet out here in Arizona.
- 5:16Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
- 5:17OK. And then from there, I wanted to
- 5:21make a sidestep away from the industry, kind of like burn out,
- 5:23a lot of late nights, a lot of weekends missed and wanted to
- 5:27try something else and something different.
- 5:28So I started working for Uber in their risk and compliance
- 5:32program. And while it's a great company
- 5:35to work for and all the perks and all the different like type
- 5:38of things, working for a high end tech company definitely
- 5:41didn't feel as fulfilled as I was.
- 5:43Like just meeting and greeting, you know, 200 faces a day,
- 5:46different people and stories. And so I kind of was like
- 5:49looking for an outlet and I messaged some old customers of
- 5:51mine that I had known for about 3 or 4 years and I saw they were
- 5:55building this venue and he happened to just be building a
- 5:58bar tub was posted on his Instagram story.
- 6:00So I DM Ed him and I was just like, hey, like you guys need
- 6:03like a part time barter and everything.
- 6:04I'm like, I'm bored at my regular job.
- 6:06I need something to do. And he's like actually like I
- 6:09wanted to talk to you. I was like, oh, so we go, isn't?
- 6:13That convenient? And so kind of had some dumb
- 6:16luck with it involved and we sat down, we talked about the vision
- 6:19of what ended up becoming Empire Scottsdale.
- 6:22And he kind of told me what his plan was for somebody to run the
- 6:25operations and help build the culture and the space and kind
- 6:28of just be a catch all so that they could focus on the bigger
- 6:31picture things. And so that talked about
- 6:34basically being the general manager of the space.
- 6:36And so we tried it out for a month or so doing part time
- 6:39work, filling in gaps and voids. And then about April, first,
- 6:44second week of April, I had done my last day at Uber and was full
- 6:47time into this role. And just yeah.
- 6:51And from there, it's been almost two years coming up in March
- 6:54that it's been actually open and we'll be 100 members deep.
- 7:00We've got probably done over 100 events in the last two years and
- 7:04fundraisers, nonprofits, just different sorts of corporate
- 7:09events, you know, regular, we've even had even, you know, a
- 7:12rehearsal dinner there. It's all sorts of different
- 7:15stuff. Well, what's really cool is I
- 7:18love that story because like for anyone listening, what started
- 7:22with you, like I'm, I'm imagining you sitting at your
- 7:25job being like, just, you know, that like speech bubble or like
- 7:28thought bubble of like, I, I don't want to do this forever.
- 7:32And then you just get an idea. You send a message.
- 7:35And then he had been thinking, even if like he hadn't been
- 7:38thinking about you. You took initiative.
- 7:41And then it lined up and like, what a cool just from that one
- 7:46little action, it changed the whole course of your your path.
- 7:49Right. Yeah.
- 7:50I mean, it's never, never thought I'd get a opportunity
- 7:54off of Adm and let alone to a friend.
- 7:58And you know, really great people that I've gotten to work
- 8:00with him, him and his business partners are just amazing
- 8:03individuals and I've been really honored to just be around them
- 8:07and a bunch of other people in the network, as well as the
- 8:10members that come to Empire, all just super impressive people.
- 8:12And I'm just incredibly humbled. Well, and you are, you're a
- 8:16humble guy. That's why you're friends with
- 8:17Adam because you guys are both that you're like, you're like
- 8:20very humble. It's your energy.
- 8:22And I've gotten to know the venue through Adam.
- 8:25So everyone who comes on, they become part of the adventures
- 8:28university family. Then I'm, you know, checking
- 8:30out, I'm following them and I'm like, empire, Scottsdale, Empire
- 8:34Scottsdale, Empire Scottsdale. This place looks cool.
- 8:36And then so I've gotten, and then I was looking at the
- 8:38Instagram, which down below in the show notes.
- 8:40Check it out, especially if you live in Arizona.
- 8:44I love the culture of the posts and how you guys are very in
- 8:49your communications, very transparent, direct.
- 8:53I just really, I like the energy of what I'm even just seeing
- 8:56from the page. Do you know what I mean?
- 8:59I haven't been there yet. And, and so kudos to you for
- 9:01that. It's got a good energy.
- 9:04Yeah, we have a a really awesome partner.
- 9:07His name's Raff. He does all the media stuff and
- 9:09just coordinates with photographers and really high
- 9:12quality editors and just like it's a it's a full team build
- 9:15like it's, you know, six of us that are operating it and it's
- 9:20all hands on. Even with, you know, all the Co
- 9:22founders, they're just fully invested in this.
- 9:26And you've done events. I've seen it's, which I think is
- 9:29beautiful because especially like freedom of speech with
- 9:33everything that's going on in the world, this space is a
- 9:36gathering space not only for like celebrations, but for a lot
- 9:41of important dialogue. Yeah, we've been.
- 9:44Yeah. It's honestly really impressive.
- 9:45We had some really fortunate where one of our members is
- 9:48actually running a nonprofit that is about having dialogue
- 9:52about tough topics with individual people that have
- 9:55their own thought processes on it.
- 9:57And, you know, shout out Arizona talks and Carlos, I mean, they
- 10:00do amazing work there. And so we try to emulate that as
- 10:04best we can by hosting, you know, the debate parties and the
- 10:07Constitution base and, you know, trying to actually just bring
- 10:11back common dialogue. Totally like let's respectfully
- 10:17agree, disagree, coexist. But like let's like, let's like
- 10:21use our brains and like come with a curious open mindset,
- 10:27right? And then it's like, that's the
- 10:29beauty of America, right? That old school like, OK, your
- 10:36turn, my turn, let's go, you know, and then like shake
- 10:39handshake. No, yeah, it's.
- 10:40What I'm all about. Yeah, exactly.
- 10:42I think it's just about having different opinions is a good
- 10:45thing. It's about having that civic
- 10:48dialogue back and just making sure we can problem solve
- 10:51together, even if it's coming about different, different ways
- 10:55about it. Absolutely now what a perfect
- 10:59segue and again, please guys, check out the show notes if you,
- 11:04especially if you live in Arizona and by the way, I've
- 11:07already said if I'm coming through Arizona, that's a stop
- 11:10I'm making. There's so many people I need to
- 11:12come meet now. Civic dialogue, freedom of
- 11:17speech. Wow.
- 11:20I am so impressed by and, and like just, I, I've never
- 11:26actually talked to somebody who's running for Senate.
- 11:30Really cool. Yeah, until very recently,
- 11:33neither did I. You're like, now I talk to him
- 11:37every day in the mirror. Should practice it every day,
- 11:40yeah. First of all, I just, and I
- 11:43think it's amazing and I, I posted about it.
- 11:46I'm really inspired by by leadership and people who have a
- 11:52voice and want to chain make a change.
- 11:56So first of all, just Congrats on taking that opportunity to
- 12:02represent the state of Arizona and like everybody really.
- 12:06So thank. You for that, I appreciate it.
- 12:08Thank you so much. Yeah, it's a it's an honor.
- 12:10It's a public service at the end of the day.
- 12:12And I am really just blessed to just have my name in the hat and
- 12:15have an opportunity to potentially represent Arizonans
- 12:18and get things done. Yeah.
- 12:21So take me back. Were you like sitting having
- 12:24your coffee one day? Were you like, I'm going to run
- 12:27for Senate or like, how does this come, come about?
- 12:30So I've always been very interested in politics and the
- 12:33civics that go on both in the United States, around the world
- 12:36and in Arizona itself. I feel really attached to the
- 12:40community having now been out here for 12 years, and I just
- 12:44feel like there's more to be done, especially when you hear
- 12:47about like, Arizona's a beautiful state, but it's not
- 12:49perfect. And there's a lot of things that
- 12:52we can do to help make it better, more prosperous for
- 12:54people, get people built up from their bootstraps and getting
- 12:58things accomplished for all Arizonans, you know, across the
- 13:02aisle. It's really something that I've
- 13:05just always been interested in and you know, having the time
- 13:08separated where I have like a more normal 9 to 5 schedule
- 13:11where I can actually plan things out in the evening weekends.
- 13:14I'm able to get involved differently than I was before.
- 13:18And it kind of brought back that spark of like, hey, there might
- 13:21be an opportunity here. I was looking up where as I go,
- 13:25should I do City Council? Should I do House what, you
- 13:28know, what's available? And I noticed that Senate had
- 13:32some close battles to it and that I reached out and found out
- 13:36that the prior Republican candidate wasn't going to be
- 13:39running this time around and so decided that that would be the
- 13:42opportunity to put my name in the hat.
- 13:44You know, I know it's a high-ranking seat for the state,
- 13:47state Senate to go up there. And you know, I just wanted to
- 13:50be a part of it and just be a part of this journey.
- 13:53I I I think it's so bad ass. I'm sorry.
- 13:56Like it's just I'm, I'm, I really think it's so cool and
- 14:01especially the reason. I mean, I think it's cool, but I
- 14:04also in in getting ready for our chat, I heard a couple of sound
- 14:08bites from you that I'm so aligned with.
- 14:13You were talking about specific. And by the way, I know we can't
- 14:16cover your whole platform on this episode.
- 14:19Maybe we'll just maybe we'll have to have you back by the
- 14:21way. Absolutely, I'd be happy to.
- 14:24You mentioned and I mentioned to my husband, he was like, yes, I
- 14:27love this. You talked about bringing back
- 14:31financial literacy courses and then or I don't know if we've
- 14:35ever had them, bringing those into like younger and then
- 14:39bringing back the trades. And yeah, and Arizona does a
- 14:43pretty good job of some of this. Anyways, I had the opportunity
- 14:46this past week to visit Westwood High School and Mountain View
- 14:49High School. And they do across Arizona
- 14:52actually does have a lot of trade programs out in Florence.
- 14:54There's welding programs available.
- 14:57So now it's just about making more of these certifications and
- 15:00apprenticeships more available for students and having more
- 15:03private sector visitors come in like Mountain View.
- 15:05They bring in like an orthodontist, a surgeon, other
- 15:09people in the trades industry just to talk to students.
- 15:12They'll do trade fairs and have things come in.
- 15:14So just getting that where it's more set in stone on a
- 15:17foundation where it's common ground for every school to do
- 15:20this or start building pathways for students to find themselves
- 15:24and make decision what they want to do post secondary education,
- 15:27you know, because you know, college isn't for everybody.
- 15:30And I think there's a lot of opportunities.
- 15:32Arizona grows across the board that we're going to need people
- 15:35for every industry, even with AI and all that stuff happening.
- 15:40Totally, and I think it's you know, I have AI live in
- 15:45California, so don't even get me started.
- 15:47But hey, listen, I've had all people on this podcast.
- 15:53This is a this is a freedom of speech podcast.
- 15:55Anyone out there who disagrees anything I say, I invite you to
- 15:58come talk to me with respect. But California has some issues.
- 16:03Just saying. What I love is that as a mother,
- 16:07I have a 8 1/2 and a 10 1/2 year old boy and girl.
- 16:11I'm like, I want you to do what you love.
- 16:15I don't want you to, I mean like working with your hands,
- 16:20Carpenter, electrician, like these are I'm like blown away by
- 16:24what these people can do. And then you can build a
- 16:27business if you love it and you can have and then you need
- 16:30coaching on how to do that early on.
- 16:33Like why do you have to go sit in a classroom if you don't want
- 16:36to be like behind a deck? Like it doesn't make sense.
- 16:40Yeah, and it's it's got to be a balance of both is what it needs
- 16:44to be. We want students to be able to
- 16:46have some critical thinking skills, have some actual
- 16:49practice at problem solving and deduction.
- 16:52And then that comes from your common courses.
- 16:54As much as we would love to shake it up, I still as well
- 16:58that's an option. I want still there to be where
- 17:01they're getting more elective opportunities to explore
- 17:04pathways. Got it.
- 17:06So it's just it's options and and flexibility and pathways.
- 17:09That's a great. It's not like doing away with
- 17:12reading and writing. It's what?
- 17:14It's the whole spectrum. Yeah.
- 17:16Life skills. Exactly.
- 17:18Yeah, it's just giving people more choice and more options.
- 17:21And with more choices comes more freedom.
- 17:25I love that because that's what the you want, that freedom of
- 17:28thought, freedom of choice to pursue whatever life, liberty,
- 17:32the pursuit of happiness, whatever that means for you,
- 17:35right? Yeah.
- 17:36And even like to find what you're not like, what you don't
- 17:39like. I think that's the best of it.
- 17:40If I've done so many different, you know, jobs trying to figure
- 17:43out or learning different things that I absolutely didn't like at
- 17:47the end of the day and I needed to pivot.
- 17:49And I think if we allow that to happen earlier, kids will find
- 17:53that in Pivot and create a course, and then they'll find
- 17:55what they'll really love and they'll go all in on it.
- 17:59That's a great point. It's the growth mindset, right?
- 18:02And like process of elimination too, Like you're not going to
- 18:06find the dream on the first maybe class you take where
- 18:09you're like this is it. Or maybe you're lucky and you do
- 18:12and you're like, this is it. But for for a lot of us, the
- 18:16path is try that doesn't fulfill me, try that you you figure it
- 18:22out. Yep.
- 18:23And so I just want to give a little background on for US
- 18:27political newbies as far as like learning how the system works.
- 18:31And then I'll just would love to get your opinion.
- 18:33So the Arizona State Senate, it's the upper House of the I'm
- 18:38looking here at my little research, the upper House of the
- 18:41Arizona Legislature Legislature, right.
- 18:44So, and for again, political newbie here, every state has two
- 18:49senators, right? So and then it says the, the
- 18:54types of things that if you're elected, you will write and vote
- 18:58on state laws like schools, state taxes, criminal law,
- 19:02housing, gun rules, water. You'll help and create and
- 19:06approve the state budget, confirm or reject governor
- 19:09appointments, vote on impeachment, removal of state
- 19:12officials. Wow, this is cool.
- 19:16This is cool. And for Arizona to kind of go a
- 19:20little more depth and do it, it goes basically there's a 30
- 19:22districts in it. So each just to break it down,
- 19:25while there is 2 state senators, it's actually one Senate seat
- 19:30per district and there's 30 districts and then there's 2
- 19:33Congress seats or House seats. So you get 60 people in the
- 19:37House, 30 people in the Senate, and then from there, so it's
- 19:41really a small group of people making decisions for the state
- 19:45and, you know, just trying to make sure that we do the right
- 19:49thing. Amazing what a what like and you
- 19:53said this early on what an honor to to and you know if all works
- 19:57out like even just. Again, I think even the process
- 20:02of you running is is going is probably already teaching you a
- 20:06lot about yourself and life. Yes, I, it's been a big learning
- 20:11curve. Obviously I've never ran for
- 20:12office prior to this. And so just, I'm very fortunate
- 20:16to just kind of always be able loud to pick people's brains and
- 20:19ask people who have been through the gauntlet before me and kind
- 20:22of figure out what's the best route to go.
- 20:24How do I get this done? How do I make sure I file on
- 20:27time and it's kind of like learning a new skill set all
- 20:33over again? A. 100% like what a it's
- 20:38certainly the actual logistics of it, right, like the filing,
- 20:42the learning, what do I need to do by when?
- 20:44And then also you're probably getting clear on your stance and
- 20:50then like you, you're already out talking to Arizonans.
- 20:54It's like that's part of who you are in your career.
- 20:56So it's that's amazing. Yeah, I'm lucky to not be shy.
- 21:03I know the feeling. I know the feeling.
- 21:06People are like you never stop talking.
- 21:07I'm like, I know, I know. I'm working on it.
- 21:11No, I gosh, OK, so many questions.
- 21:14So so you've the passion has been there.
- 21:18You're you're you're on the train towards and the election
- 21:22is in November. Again, I'm just like, I'm the
- 21:25newbie here. So it's November is is what
- 21:28you're working towards coming? November, yes, correct.
- 21:32If I were to be, if I did have another opponent in the primary,
- 21:35we we'd have that in I believe July or early August and then.
- 21:39But since there is nobody primary against me, it's just me
- 21:42trying to get enough name brand recognition, hand face in front
- 21:45of faces and getting to the people before November.
- 21:49Amazing. Amazing what?
- 21:53OK, so let's just go hypothetical.
- 21:56And again, I'm not trying to grill you.
- 21:57I'm. Just excited for you.
- 21:59Your excitement, by the way, this isn't a grill you kind of
- 22:04podcast. I'm I'm it's just not not my my
- 22:08style. If you were like the the first
- 22:12month you get elected, you're like soaking it up.
- 22:16It seems like you're already out in the community.
- 22:19Like what would you? What do you imagine that those
- 22:22first couple months might be like?
- 22:24Like again, I know you've never done it so you don't know, but.
- 22:28I would say for me is just studying with the docket like
- 22:31what what do this what is the House and Senate already kind of
- 22:34have prepared and what's going to be voted on coming up.
- 22:37And then from there, reaching out to local experts and people
- 22:40in the valley to find out what their opinions on it and just
- 22:43listening to people before actually going in and meeting
- 22:46with my, you know, my fellow Senate members and stuff like
- 22:50that. For me, I just want to get the
- 22:53rains of things, learn the schedule, kind of make sure I
- 22:56show up on time. I'm representing Arizona well
- 22:59and that from there it's learning that docket and making
- 23:03sure that I'm an educated vote coming into it and doing my
- 23:06research, doing homework. So the docket and again I'm
- 23:10learning here. Thank you for the education.
- 23:13The docket is what is potentially going to be voted on
- 23:17and passed, is that right? Yes, and not necessarily that'll
- 23:20actually come to a vote, but whatever either side has planned
- 23:24for what they want to get brought to the floor and what
- 23:27gets voted up from the House itself and kind of just
- 23:30understanding and reading up on what's written.
- 23:33Yeah, so it sounds like you you're going to be a sponge.
- 23:38And I love that you said, listen, because you're, I mean,
- 23:43it's just with the political climate today, I love that
- 23:47Someone Like You is running because you're, you're so
- 23:49authentic. Like it's just, you can't fake
- 23:52that. Like, you know, and I, I, I, I,
- 23:55I love authenticity, whether you're left, right, center, I'm
- 23:59all about just be authentic and like, be who you are and like
- 24:03present who you are. I think, gosh, where was I going
- 24:07with that? I was going somewhere good.
- 24:11You're good. It's coming.
- 24:11Welcome to my brain. It's right there.
- 24:14You're oh, so you're, you're listening because really the
- 24:21definition of, of, of a public representative is to collect,
- 24:26kind of collect all the voice of the people, right?
- 24:29You're it's not just your voice, it's voice of the people.
- 24:33And then you're then like kind of being our our, then you
- 24:37translate our voice, right, or the Arizona citizens, is that
- 24:41correct? Yeah, it's about being a
- 24:43champion for the people at the end of the day, and whether I
- 24:47have my beliefs or how I view things.
- 24:49If my constitutes don't feel the same way, then I need to make
- 24:52sure I'm reflecting and seeing where I need to adjust and be
- 24:57able to make sure I'm representing everyone on that,
- 25:01on the point and you know, playing devil's advocate still
- 25:05and looking at the pros and cons and then still deciding at the
- 25:09end of the day what I believe is the best decision, but making
- 25:12sure I still hear all the voices first.
- 25:14Yeah, yeah. So it sounds like a lot of
- 25:17research, a lot of listening, a lot of you really got a discern
- 25:24discernment. And then just politics in
- 25:26general, like I love like even at work or any, any situation,
- 25:30you're like the politics of this, the politics of this, the
- 25:33politics of this. Now you're going into politics.
- 25:36So there's politics of politics, holy politics.
- 25:42But I think all on both sides, the people that inspire me in
- 25:48speeches and in whether it's whatever medium I see them, I'm
- 25:52like, that person is real. They're real, you know.
- 25:58So when you think about politics, history, like what has
- 26:03always what, who is it? Someone in your family, is it
- 26:08what inspires you or who inspires you?
- 26:13Sort of like that's a big question, but however you'd like
- 26:17to answer it. I would, I would say first and
- 26:19foremost, my parents, they they built the foundation for who I
- 26:23am as a person and my dad really play is really good about
- 26:27playing both sides of things and just being able to have multiple
- 26:33viewpoints of something. Even if I have to look at it
- 26:35through the lens of people I think are totally wrong.
- 26:38It's making sure that cuz having that viewpoint, cuz there's a
- 26:44good book he read a long time ago and he quotes quotes from
- 26:47time to time. I can't draw it off the top of
- 26:48my head, but everybody thinks they're the good guy.
- 26:52Is was was the quote. So it's how do I look through
- 26:55the lens of that part person viewing me as the bad guy and
- 26:58where can I find the pros and cons of my viewpoints and where
- 27:01can we find that common ground and how do we move forward to
- 27:04again solve a problem at the end of the day?
- 27:08That's such a good. There it is.
- 27:10That's the clip. Yeah, no, I always am.
- 27:12Like, that's something I'm going to be thinking about for a
- 27:14couple days now. Everybody thinks they're the
- 27:16good guy. That is because we all have ego,
- 27:20right? And we're all like, no, we've,
- 27:21we know this for sure. Like I know for sure there's no
- 27:25way you're going to change my mind.
- 27:26And maybe that is the case, but I think it shows a lot of
- 27:29humility and like intelligence and to be like, hold on, but
- 27:35let's just hear it. Let's hear it.
- 27:37Let's let's look at it, right? That's so important because as
- 27:43my husband says too, there's two things can be true.
- 27:46Tell me if you agree at at the same time they're they're it's
- 27:50not black. Nothing is black and white, is
- 27:51it? No, I think no, not at all.
- 27:54I think it's, there's multi things that play into decision
- 27:58making and how we get our viewpoints.
- 28:00And we, if we're not constantly changing our viewpoints and
- 28:05learning from it, then we're being stubborn intentionally.
- 28:10And I, and I think it's, it's about being lifelong learners.
- 28:13I've not been 100% correct my whole life.
- 28:16I think that would give me a God complex if it did.
- 28:19And I've been wrong on several occasions and been corrected and
- 28:24I've had to learn from it, go delt deeper.
- 28:26And that's why I really want to make sure research is on top of
- 28:28it, you know? And from there, I've learned
- 28:30from it like, it's good to be wrong sometimes.
- 28:35Oh, that's a good one. It's good to be wrong.
- 28:37It's a real reminder of like nobody knows everything.
- 28:44You just don't. And like you said, it's really
- 28:46important. If you think you do or you think
- 28:48you know mostly everything, then you then we're getting into like
- 28:50some dangerous territory, like psychologically like.
- 28:53That's yeah, yeah. You have to still make the
- 28:56decision and trust that you're doing what you believe is best
- 28:59for everyone. And sometimes it works out,
- 29:02sometimes it doesn't. But you got to still go with
- 29:04what you believe is the right decision at the end of the day.
- 29:08Yeah, OK. Question about the process, what
- 29:13two-part question. What has been the coolest thing
- 29:18about running so far? And then what has been something
- 29:26pretty challenging about running?
- 29:28And, and take your time if you need to think about it, but I'm
- 29:31sure there's a little bit of both.
- 29:34Yeah, yeah, I would say I think the coolest thing is just seeing
- 29:37how excited people get is just, and just like that one, that
- 29:42somebody is just actually wanting to put their name in the
- 29:45hat. Like it's people are just
- 29:47generally awesome about just being excited for me, even if
- 29:51they, you know, not even if they're not going to vote for
- 29:53me. The day OAF people have been
- 29:55real. Arizonans are really, really
- 29:56nice out here. I don't know what anybody else
- 29:59says, but I think just so much sunshine.
- 30:01How can you be upset? And even people that I know will
- 30:04probably not likely vote for me in November.
- 30:06They're just saying, you know, everybody gives you a Congrats.
- 30:08And just it's I think that's why Arizona's beautiful as a
- 30:12battleground state. It's just there's a lot of
- 30:14already of that civics and civil dialogue involved here already.
- 30:18And I think that's why it is always going to be a good
- 30:21battleground state. That's awesome.
- 30:24That's really cool. I'm glad to hear that because
- 30:26that's what that even people on the other side of maybe policies
- 30:31are like they, they, they're happy to see you participating
- 30:34in like democracy. Yes, yeah.
- 30:36That's super cool. OK, super cool.
- 30:40And then I would say the most challenging part is definitely
- 30:43is how much time it actually takes them off.
- 30:44Definitely underestimated at first.
- 30:47What it all takes to kind of 1 is like just been learning about
- 30:50the civics. I've been in a Valley leadership
- 30:53program since probably like the last four or five months and
- 30:56just kind of trying to learn everything that's going on
- 30:58Arizona, listening to different speakers on different Zoom
- 31:01calls, team team kind of meetings.
- 31:04And just, you know, as well as like having to get on the
- 31:07phones, go set up, meeting, set up, you know, greet the
- 31:11candidates stuff and just get signatures, all the little stuff
- 31:15for kind of boots on the ground stuff.
- 31:17I've now fortunately started working with a consulting team
- 31:20to start making it a little more easier on myself.
- 31:22But it's a I'm learning the time commitment and I'm preparing for
- 31:26a bigger time commitment as we get closer.
- 31:28And from there it's just trying to create that balance of making
- 31:32sure I put the right effort in. Yep.
- 31:35And then like getting in the self-care and the sleep and the
- 31:39family time and the exercise, right?
- 31:42And the job. It's a lot.
- 31:45Yeah, it's Empire has a lot of different hours, especially when
- 31:49we do events and we have people doing conference meetings and
- 31:52different stuff and the people that come in to Co work in the
- 31:56space need different needs, AV needs and stuff throughout the
- 32:00day. So where hours can range for me
- 32:04it's but luckily I'm been pretty organized.
- 32:07I've good Google Calendar and you know, I've got some really
- 32:11good team around me and some staff that works for me that's
- 32:14really starting to get the hang of things.
- 32:15And so that'll start to open up that gap for me to go a full
- 32:18bore into this coming up. Yeah, well, it sounds like your
- 32:22experience as a general manager, which basically you got your
- 32:28hands in everything and then you're a, you're in a leadership
- 32:31position, your customer facing your leading employees, you're
- 32:37managing budgets. It's almost like it's been
- 32:42preparing you for the next venture.
- 32:46You know, if you're elected, you've been running operations
- 32:50and communications and dialogue and it, it seems like a, a
- 32:56really good like runway to this next, next chapter.
- 33:00Yeah, I think it's done a lot to, you know, sharpen my skill
- 33:04set in terms of how I, you know, work with people, talk with
- 33:06people. I'm meeting a lot of very high
- 33:09level professionals. So learning kind of like their
- 33:12inner workings. I get to pick their brains a lot
- 33:14just because I'm in the space with them.
- 33:16And so it's like a new mastermind every day for me
- 33:19because it's just the life experience that some of these
- 33:23guys have and some of these girls that are in there that I
- 33:26would never have prior to this. And I get to, you know,
- 33:31vicariously live through them and see kind of like the trials
- 33:34and errors of how they got to where they are and, you know,
- 33:37what their business are doing, their day-to-day lives, how are
- 33:39they handling everything is, you know, everybody's really the
- 33:42same at the end of the day. It's like it's incredible.
- 33:46And you as you are obviously all about talking to people and
- 33:50listening and on this podcast, I'm just like the things I hear.
- 33:57I'm like, wow, every single person you walk by in the
- 34:01grocery store, every single person you drive by, they have a
- 34:06story that has things that you're just like, what, how?
- 34:10How did you handle that? Wow, you really got whoa, you
- 34:14turn that around how? And they're like, I'll tell you
- 34:16how. And you're like, OK, like that's
- 34:19really valuable knowledge. It's, it's just a very, again, I
- 34:24guess I'm very blessed to be a part of it and even have the
- 34:27opportunity to be in the same room as some of these people.
- 34:30Yeah, gosh. So you are like you're, you're
- 34:34managing right now. You're managing Empire
- 34:38Scottsdale, you're running for Senate.
- 34:40Your parents must be so proud of you.
- 34:44I mean, I mean, you said you have a relationship with your
- 34:46dad. What does your your pop think
- 34:48about all this? Yo, he's, he thinks I'm crazy.
- 34:56He's, but he's so happy for me and just super supportive,
- 34:59always asking how it's going. But he's, he just laughs at me
- 35:04sometimes. He's just like, he's like, you
- 35:06know, you could have waited to do this down the line.
- 35:08And I'm like, no, I don't think so.
- 35:10I think I only think I'm ready now.
- 35:11And he's, you know, he's always supported him and my mom have
- 35:15always been, you know, they all, they kind of, they guide
- 35:18loosely. They, you know, they'll give
- 35:19their warnings and they'll give their, you know, their
- 35:22premonitions and, but at the end of the day, they, they support
- 35:25me 100% and I'm just very happy to have their backing.
- 35:31That's really cool. That's really cool.
- 35:33I I have a similar relationship with my parents in that, you
- 35:37know, they drop the little Nuggets, especially like with
- 35:40the podcast and stuff. Yeah, they're like, OK, you
- 35:45know, and then my brother, he's like, hey, and I'm like, OK, OK,
- 35:48you're fine. You're right.
- 35:49I know, because. But it's just like it, it's
- 35:53really cool to have family behind you and friends like Adam
- 35:57and people in your life that when you go on these adventures
- 36:02that you're like, not sure how this is going to work out, but I
- 36:04really feel like I want to. They're like, all right, you're
- 36:07a little nuts, but we got you and do it.
- 36:11Yeah, they, they, they know I'm a risk taker and that I'm
- 36:15competitive and they're, they're just like, all right, just let
- 36:20him do it. He's going to do it anyway, so.
- 36:23Exactly. You got enough stubbornness
- 36:25where you'll respectfully listen, but you're like, yeah,
- 36:27so I'm going to do it. But thanks.
- 36:31So Speaking of you. And again, I'm going all over
- 36:34the place. We went through the.
- 36:35GM to almost Senator to I'm gonna gonna be a senator.
- 36:39My fingers crossed for you. If I live in Arizona.
- 36:43If I lived in Arizona, I would, I would totally look at all your
- 36:46policies and then, you know, consider voting for you because.
- 36:49I have always. Do my research.
- 36:51Absolutely, as you should. You should, yes, but I would I
- 36:55would be open to to considering it just as everyone else should
- 37:00be Who's listening in Arizona? You also have a twin brother,
- 37:06which I think is super cool. Yeah, I know.
- 37:08Yeah. That's, that's my best friend.
- 37:10That's, you know, we're, we've been roommates for life.
- 37:14So it's we still, we still both rent out here in Arizona.
- 37:18We still live together. So he's, you know, just down the
- 37:20hall hanging out. So we're all supposed to get
- 37:24together later this evening. We're all gonna get a bunch of
- 37:26our buddies together and go bowling.
- 37:28We just turned 30 on Tuesday, so.
- 37:31Congrats. Yeah.
- 37:33Thank you. Thank.
- 37:34You well, the reason why I know is I when I was prepping for the
- 37:36interview, I I saw this really adorable picture on your
- 37:41Instagram of like you guys eating ice cream.
- 37:44Yes, and like. And then I was like, wait.
- 37:46And then I like scrolling. I'm like, wait, birthday twin,
- 37:50happy birthday, boy. He's a twin.
- 37:52Like, I think it's cool. I just think it's cool to have
- 37:57somebody that probably understands you in an incredible
- 38:00way. Yeah, he's, it's a, we have a,
- 38:03you know, it's, I wouldn't call it twin telepathy, but we
- 38:06definitely feel, we definitely don't need very many words to
- 38:09kind of feel each other out and see how if someone's doing good
- 38:12or anything like that. And we're both very, very direct
- 38:16with each other. So there's no, you know, there's
- 38:18no sugar coating or anything around here.
- 38:20And you know, we, we've he'll tell me, he'll tell me it's
- 38:25straight. I'll tell him straight.
- 38:26And but I will say he's much more of the Zen and he's he's
- 38:32more, you know, man of very few words.
- 38:35But he's he's a riot once he defrosts that you know, he's
- 38:38he's an awesome brother and he's you know, he'll he'll our older
- 38:42brother. Sorry if I if I don't say it
- 38:44correctly, he'll get he'll let me know.
- 38:46Couple minutes. 15 or so it's we, we, we debate on if it's 15
- 38:51or 16, but he'll I'll say 15 for him today.
- 38:56Wow, 15 minutes older. Yeah, that's great.
- 39:01I love it. I love just the whole like when
- 39:05you can just be so real with someone where you're like the
- 39:07first thing they say, like you haven't seen them, they walk in
- 39:10and they're like, what are you wearing?
- 39:11And you're like, no, hi. You know, it's just like that's
- 39:15just like that's, that's my brother, my older brother.
- 39:17He's actually 3 1/2 years older, but he walks in and I'm like,
- 39:20just don't even talk. Just I.
- 39:22Can. Tell you're going to make fun of
- 39:24me right now. And I, yeah, he's.
- 39:26Not. Ready.
- 39:27OK. He we, we're so he's just
- 39:29awesome man. I best friend forever.
- 39:32And you know, we've been through so much together, ups and downs
- 39:36and just, you know, we both moved out here together
- 39:40originally from Oregon and so we've been OK yeah.
- 39:44So tandem duo forever since so, you know, we've followed each
- 39:47other out to this, you know, beautiful state.
- 39:50And yeah, one day, one day we'll both be working on probably
- 39:54getting our own homes, building our families.
- 39:56And I won't, we won't live in the same 4 walls anymore and
- 39:58it'll I'll have to get used to that.
- 40:01Listen, you actually, here's the thing, you don't because guess
- 40:04what? My brother lived 75 steps away.
- 40:11So just saying like literally we've been here 10 years.
- 40:14He was here 11 years and I got a text.
- 40:17We were renting, we were looking for houses.
- 40:19And he goes, his wife was like, hey, come check out on, you
- 40:22know, over here. And I was like, OK, we'll put an
- 40:25offer. I'm like, but but we're not
- 40:27going to get it. So and we got it.
- 40:29And I'm like, I'm like, we're moving in.
- 40:33And so it's literally the the dream.
- 40:37Like my nieces running back and forth, like my parents stop by
- 40:42and like drop off Mac and cheese and then drop off.
- 40:45It's like the dream. Yeah, it's that's it sounds like
- 40:48the perfect neighborhood. Yeah, exactly.
- 40:51Yeah, we. It's so much fun.
- 40:53We we grew up in such a cool neighborhood back home in
- 40:56Beaverton. Like, I mean, I think in 30
- 40:59households around the little cul-de-sac area, there's
- 41:03probably like 30 to 40 kids all within like 5 or 6 years of age.
- 41:07And so we had just, you know, when you picture those like old
- 41:11school summers of kids being outside bikes and yards, all the
- 41:14stuff, you know, capture the flag games, all that, we did it
- 41:17all. And so it's really cool to hear
- 41:21that there's other neighborhoods still trying to be like that.
- 41:23And we miss, I miss seeing it a lot.
- 41:26I miss, I think the idea of people being outside and around
- 41:29each other is a little bit of a loss of the waywards kind of.
- 41:36Yeah, it is. Literally it's and I grew up
- 41:40same Irvine, CA, tons of kids like DJs and the block parties
- 41:46and like the moms, the moms were like, OK, and like, I'm just
- 41:50keeping it real there. I'm like, oh, it's happy hour
- 41:52time. That's when the moms sit with
- 41:54that lemonade stuff. By the way, they were all,
- 41:58everything was taken care of. They had earned it.
- 42:00But I was like, the moms are going to sit at the red table
- 42:03and we're going to run around and they're going to drink the
- 42:05yellow lemonade. Apparently we're not allowed to
- 42:08drink. Yeah, no, we don't know.
- 42:10They just play and then the dads are grilling and then we run
- 42:13over here like it was just the classic, you know, the classic
- 42:18upbringing. But it sounds like, again, I'm
- 42:21like, going all over the place. But your stories are reminding
- 42:24me of, like, just the simple things we want to bring back
- 42:28different jobs, different people coming together, you know, not
- 42:33always being on phones. Like, again, I have a podcast,
- 42:36I'm on social media. There's a place for it, but but
- 42:39we got to like get outside. Yeah, it's got to be able to be
- 42:44face to face and seeing people on, you know, as much as social
- 42:47media has connected us, I think it's over connected us where we
- 42:50feel burnt out before even going to see each other and people.
- 42:53And you know, I we eliminated like, you know, the old saying
- 42:57distance makes the heart grow fonder, but we can text people
- 43:00immediately. We can constantly see their
- 43:02updates on Instagram and stuff and you know I'm not innocent of
- 43:05that either. I obviously my Instagram page
- 43:07has a bunch of photos. I follow a ton of people and I
- 43:10get definitely have got caught doing scrolling before.
- 43:13Oh. For sure.
- 43:15And so, you know, but I am very fortunate to be able to plan
- 43:20stuff with my friends and meet up, go to rec basketball stuff,
- 43:23still go and scorekeep at Chandler Gilbert Community
- 43:25College. Like just people got to put
- 43:27themselves out that and just put the energy forward to be, you
- 43:31know, in public and be around other people and not through
- 43:36technology. It's.
- 43:38Totally. It's balance.
- 43:39Like I'm telling you I could, I was guilty of doom scrolling
- 43:44last week. I went into like a little bit of
- 43:46like a despair hole. I'm open.
- 43:49I'm like, guys, I'm struggling. I need to, the news is freaking
- 43:52me out and I'm freaking out like I and then I'm very open and now
- 43:57I'm like, OK, you haven't taken a walk and then you need to walk
- 44:00the dog and go work out and take a take a, take a beat, take a
- 44:05beat because you can get down this rabbit hole of what's real,
- 44:09what's not. I don't know what's real.
- 44:11I'm freaking out and not even trying to go down that rabbit
- 44:15hole. But with, with the political
- 44:18climate and all this news coming out, you've got like so many
- 44:22headlines and I, I just wonder like, what is your perspective
- 44:27on staying informed? But also like what, what do we
- 44:33believe? What do we not believe?
- 44:35Like I, I'm not, I don't know even sometimes I don't even
- 44:37know. But I'm like, I want to be
- 44:38informed, but I don't, I don't want to be, it's over.
- 44:41I don't know what to do as a citizen at this point.
- 44:45I don't even know what I'm saying.
- 44:48You know what? I.
- 44:48Mean yeah, the biggest power we have is the power to vote and
- 44:53the, you know, it's one of our strongest rights.
- 44:55It's that decision part of like, as we've learned more going
- 44:58across this, you know, weird times that it's been as of late
- 45:03and really looking at who do we want to represent us going
- 45:08forward and making sure that they are genuine people.
- 45:12They are have the good intentions of the people that
- 45:15they're trying to represent at heart.
- 45:17And that's where the IT most can be said.
- 45:20And but for other than that, the best is to do is stay informed.
- 45:24Don't let it bring you down. Control.
- 45:26We can control at this time still do good.
- 45:29Be neighborly to your friends, your neighbors, and do
- 45:32everything you can to try to uplift the people around you.
- 45:35That's the best way we can to be prosperous and to really look
- 45:40after one another as best as we can.
- 45:41And when the time comes to come together as a community and pick
- 45:45our representatives is pick wisely, know who you're voting
- 45:49for, make sure they're not doing this for nefarious deeds.
- 45:53And that's the best we can do. That's, you know, it's not
- 45:57probably not the answer people want to hear.
- 46:00It's, it's a slow process. But that's why our Constitution
- 46:03was made that way, so that our government does move slow, but
- 46:06it's to make sure that we can make the right corrections along
- 46:09the way. Nothing gets solved in the two
- 46:11or four years between. It's a 10 year, 20 year process
- 46:14to make sure we can get this done.
- 46:16And I want immediate results as well.
- 46:18Trust me. I want to see, I want to see
- 46:21some things done that I don't believe are being done from our
- 46:24federal government and in terms of the Epstein files and such as
- 46:29like that. And that's across the board for
- 46:32everybody involved. Guilty or protecting people is
- 46:38not OK, but there. But from there, we should make
- 46:42sure that we're looking towards the future and bringing in
- 46:46candidates that aren't representing that who are from
- 46:48new blood and you keep on keeping on the best we can.
- 46:55Thank you. No, thank you for answering
- 46:57that. I know it's not like an easy
- 46:58topic, but you're a, you are a guy who's talking and, and
- 47:02keeping it real. And I appreciate that about you.
- 47:05And so, yeah, it's just been, it's, I am a great believer in
- 47:11the Constitution. I, you know, grew up and, and
- 47:16just Full disclosure, like my mom, my mom is South African.
- 47:20She's now an American citizen. Like went through the whole
- 47:22process. My dad is like old school East
- 47:25Coast Irish, Italian. Like, you know, he's like, like
- 47:32incapable of bullshit. As I say, not be fake.
- 47:37You just can't take it or leave it.
- 47:40My mom has a little more of a filter, but my point being, I
- 47:45was raised to love this country, but not too blindly be like I
- 47:51must love country, but I, I love this country.
- 47:54I'm it's all over my podcast, the American flag.
- 47:57I'm I love this country. I'm struggling with what's
- 48:00happening right now with how it's being handled.
- 48:04But I, I have faith that there are good people, good people
- 48:08like you, good people. I know there are good.
- 48:10There's good and bad in everything.
- 48:12Like you said across the board, left, right, this is just like a
- 48:17humanity issue, right? We've all gotta, it's like it's
- 48:22it's just, it's hard to process. If you've been following my
- 48:26social media, you're like, yeah, we know you've been having a
- 48:28hard time, but I'm better now. But I just, I wanna look forward
- 48:35and I'm I couldn't have, you couldn't have timed this
- 48:39interview better like to just I needed to talk to somebody who's
- 48:43like, calm down. We need to do it.
- 48:47You're part of the solution. Yeah, I'm trying to be.
- 48:50Absolutely. You're trying to be.
- 48:51You're trying to be through transparent politics.
- 48:54Yeah. It's just being honest.
- 48:56I think I don't. As much as people want to try to
- 48:59dance around their words and stuff, I know people either
- 49:03gonna love me or hate me based on what I say.
- 49:05I'm sure there's sound bites from this video that might could
- 49:08be used against me at some point.
- 49:09I'm not nervous about that. If it makes me go viral on
- 49:12accident, Oh well. They'll have to talk to me in
- 49:16person or give me a phone call. E-mail me.
- 49:20Sure. I'm happy to be as responsive as
- 49:23I can and get back to everybody that has questions or think I
- 49:26may have said something that they didn't like or they
- 49:28disagree with. Then let's have a conversation.
- 49:32100% literally I, I can't, I'm not running for political
- 49:36office, but not yet, no. But I will say I've gotten some
- 49:42comments from some trolls where I'm like, I'm like, oh, that was
- 49:46harsh. And then some get like little
- 49:49ones where you're like, oh, that was harsh enough to make me
- 49:53question my reality. No.
- 49:55And then something now I've realized that you got to know
- 49:57who you are. You got to understand.
- 50:00And you also have to be open to dialogue and be like, hey, send
- 50:04me a message. Come.
- 50:06I've even said, why don't you come on the podcast?
- 50:08And then it's like crickets. I'm like, OK, well, you just
- 50:13want to like, burn me in the comments, but you don't want to
- 50:15talk about it. So OK.
- 50:17It's it's easy for everybody to have an opinion through the
- 50:21phone. It's super easy to send, But you
- 50:22know, I got to take it like my guy friend group.
- 50:26We're not afraid to roast each other.
- 50:27And if you know, I just kind of take it like it's one of my
- 50:30friends roasting me. Some of them are pretty funny.
- 50:32I'll I'll admit. I've, you know, when you see
- 50:34some of the trolls that are out there, I'll give them their
- 50:37credit. They're they've got some good
- 50:38zingers and but still stand on your beliefs.
- 50:41Take it for what it is and know that most people that are
- 50:44commenting or don't have a direct impact on your life.
- 50:48Yeah. And they're coming.
- 50:49Any comment is coming through the lens of how they're, what
- 50:54they're experiencing or what they've experienced.
- 50:57And it's it is really all a lot of it is, if you look at the
- 51:01psychology of it is projection. Yeah.
- 51:04Like, sorry, I've had some psychologists on the show, like
- 51:09you can quote me on that. Quote me on that and come debate
- 51:11me if you don't believe me. It's a lot of projection.
- 51:14And even when I've been rude to somebody, I don't troll people.
- 51:17But if I snap at someone, I'm like, that's because of me.
- 51:24That's my energy I'm bringing. Well, OK, so we've talked about
- 51:31you being AGM. We've talked about your Senate
- 51:34run. So cool.
- 51:35That will never not be cool to me that you're doing that.
- 51:38Well, thank you. Regardless of what happens, I
- 51:39think it's just an incredible adventure that you're going on.
- 51:43You're a twin. I do have to call you out for
- 51:46being cool, for practicing even, however many times on the
- 51:51practice squad with Sophie Cunningham, because badass.
- 51:55Yeah, it was. That was quite the experience.
- 51:59They're all so cool. Oh my gosh, like it was so much
- 52:02fun and they they are so good. They were so competitive.
- 52:07I'm so sad the squad's not together like that anymore.
- 52:09Obviously with, you know, the trades and you know, Diana
- 52:13retiring, but they cross the board and even like dude,
- 52:17Freddie Grinder is probably one of the coolest people I've ever
- 52:19met just for first, first moment.
- 52:22She walks and comes and shakes every guy, every dude that's
- 52:24there doing the practice squad side of it because they can't
- 52:27legally have women on the practice squad because it's a
- 52:30non compete clause to deal. So that's why I met.
- 52:33So that's why they have men do it for the scout teams legally
- 52:36wise. And then just to have, there's a
- 52:38lot of good basketball guys that come in there like former, it'll
- 52:41be like guys that play D2 or D1 and the girls are tough dude.
- 52:44They'll play competitive. And, you know, I didn't play at
- 52:48that high of skill level for basketball, but it was such an
- 52:50experience and getting to see the insurance and outs of how
- 52:53the coaches operate, how the full organization moves.
- 52:57I think Matt Ishiba's done a good job with what he when he
- 53:00purchased his team. Now, obviously the Suns need to
- 53:02win some more games and the Mercury obviously got to, I
- 53:06think they got to the finals last year and, and just there's
- 53:10the it's Arizona's doing a lot of cool things, man.
- 53:12I love that we're like one of the biggest movers and shakers
- 53:17in the country right now. I literally, OK, there's reason.
- 53:20I, I just love when I was looking at your Instagram and
- 53:23stuff and like there was, I loved the story where you told
- 53:27like, you know, they talk trash and competitive and I love that,
- 53:31that that was there a moment when Sophie Cunningham just like
- 53:35let you take a three or something.
- 53:37Yeah, so I see she she is she definitely is one of the better
- 53:43trash talkers on the teeth. And she definitely just like,
- 53:47let me shoot at one point just to prove a point and and she's
- 53:54and I'm like, it's just that I was a little rusty at the time
- 53:56too. I maybe would have knocked you
- 53:58down in a different day, but not that day.
- 53:59Unfortunately, it wasn't, you know, my it wasn't my time to
- 54:03shine the. Moment I knew that I was rooting
- 54:07for her was when I saw her and I I played sports, but like I just
- 54:12love the teammate loyalty that she had.
- 54:16And I'm sure you know what I'm talking about when she was at
- 54:18Caitlin Clark got like totally messed with right.
- 54:22And then she just, I think on Indiana.
- 54:24Right. Yeah, for the fever, yeah.
- 54:26If you don't agree with this then come debate me.
- 54:28But she, she, she'd let the girl know you're not going to push my
- 54:33teammate around. And I know she got in trouble
- 54:36for her, but sorry, I thought it was good.
- 54:39Yeah, she's, she's touched, she's a she's an amazing person
- 54:43and a really, really tough cookie, to say the least.
- 54:46Yeah, she's she is. She's there for you.
- 54:50That's I'll give you that tell. Us I love, I love, I just love
- 54:53seeing strong women. And then I love I got to give
- 54:56you kudos for just amplifying like women's voices by telling
- 55:00that story. And like I, I and then also just
- 55:04as AI have a daughter as as a woman, I appreciate men who like
- 55:11just talk about that. It's really cool that you you
- 55:15took the time to talk about how badass they are.
- 55:18And I, all the women appreciate, appreciate that.
- 55:21Yeah, I've been, I've been a who for my whole life, you know,
- 55:24I've only, you know, I only played at a small junior college
- 55:26out here in Arizona for a couple years.
- 55:28But is but it's I've always been a fan of the game and they
- 55:32played at the highest level. They know what they're doing.
- 55:35They're so their IQ is really there.
- 55:37And how can you not appreciate just good ball?
- 55:40Yeah, like what's appreciate it like when you see somebody,
- 55:43whether they're like a basketball player, a master
- 55:46Craftsman, really dedicated and like passionate about whatever
- 55:51it is, it's like wow, like that's that's all in.
- 55:55Yeah, it's, it's exactly what it what you said it's like just
- 55:58seeing it is very awe inspiring. It is it's like, and then it
- 56:02makes you go, what do I love and could I do that all in with
- 56:06something? And then they're like, yes, you
- 56:08can. That's yes, go do it.
- 56:11Go do it right. I mean, so that and that might
- 56:16be a good place. I think cuz you got me all
- 56:18inspired here to put a little bit of a pause because I really
- 56:24would love to if you'd be open to it.
- 56:26And again, you don't have to decide right now, but throughout
- 56:29your your run here down the line, anytime you'd like to come
- 56:33back and talk about anything, we would love to have you back.
- 56:38Yeah, I'd be happy to give an update and kind of just talk
- 56:40about what the experience has been like.
- 56:42I I'm, I'm an open book. I'm not shy of talking to people
- 56:47about anything and kind of everything, you know, a small
- 56:50bit of Irish and me. So gift to gab is, is a thing
- 56:54for sure. But again, try to make sure as
- 56:57I'm running just being a good listener as well.
- 56:59But I I love to talk to people and just conversate.
- 57:02I think you learn so much through open dialogue and
- 57:04conversation and just get to actually hear stories from other
- 57:07people. It it change, it fundamentally
- 57:10changes your life view when you just keep hearing people's
- 57:14stories and hearing how resilient people can be.
- 57:19As we close, please everybody look in the show notes again.
- 57:24I think Logan was very open. If you have, especially if
- 57:26you're an Arizona citizen and you want a dialogue about
- 57:29anything you've heard or anything, he is contactable
- 57:33below. And then Logan, do you have any
- 57:36advice for anyone through all your really cool ventures that
- 57:41might be struggling with like self doubt or just like belief?
- 57:47Do you have any advice of like how you're carrying yourself
- 57:50through all this with with your own self self belief?
- 57:55Yeah, I say just no matter the UPS or downs or trials that
- 57:58you're going through at any time is just know what your vision
- 58:01is, know what you want to aspire to be and be accountable to how
- 58:06much work it takes to get there. And then, you know, try to be as
- 58:11disciplined as possible to make sure you're doing all the
- 58:13correct things. Still make sure you're saving
- 58:15time for rest. And it's the last thing is just
- 58:20make sure that you've got a good support group around you as
- 58:23well, like your friends and family make will be your
- 58:27biggest, your biggest champions for you.
- 58:29They want they definitely want the best.
- 58:32My coaches, my teammates, my friends, everybody I've met is
- 58:35definitely how you get through those hard times and to lean on
- 58:40them and don't be afraid to ask for help in any shape or form.
- 58:44It's hard, it's annoying, it's it's usually against our biggest
- 58:52intuition because we're all very much built up by the bootstraps
- 58:54for most people I know. So doing that and just know that
- 58:59you're going to be great is that's you keep that positive.
- 59:02Just being a positive person will change outlook so much.
- 59:05I know things can seem bad and be cautious.
- 59:08Think about some of the outcomes, but think about the
- 59:10outcomes of not doing anything. So good, so good.
- 59:17Logan, this has been such a pleasure.
- 59:19I really enjoyed like connecting with you.
- 59:22I I knew you'd be awesome because you're Adam's friend and
- 59:25and you're connected to to my producer Jack and I just I
- 59:29really appreciate you. I know you've got a lot going
- 59:31on. Taking this hour to talk to me
- 59:34and my, my listeners really appreciate it and can't wait to
- 59:39check in with you and like just cheer you on from California.
- 59:44Yeah, I appreciate. Thank you so much for having me,
- 59:46Bree. It's an honor.
- 59:47I'm glad Adam was able to connect us.
- 59:49You're an amazing person. And hopefully if I ever out in
- 59:52California, ever out here, like let's connect.
- 59:55Please, it is. It's going to probably happen
- 59:58just. Say absolutely.
- 1:00:00And I told Adam, I'm like, and you're just going to walk with
- 1:00:03me everywhere even though no one cares.
- 1:00:05I just will feel safe with you everywhere.
- 1:00:07Exactly. They're like breed.
- 1:00:09Nobody knows who you are. I'm like I know, but I feel
- 1:00:11safe. Big protector?
- 1:00:14Yes, he is. Yes.
- 1:00:17Well, with that guys, thank you so much, Logan.
- 1:00:20And check out all of Logan's information below and we are
- 1:00:24going to sign off with Episode 87.
- 1:00:27Take care, everybody.
