- 0:00Speaker 1: Some quarterbacks made their debut in the sec yesterday. We
- 0:04Speaker 1: are presented by prize picks. What are our thoughts on
- 0:10Speaker 1: Keelan Russell and phase on Brandon Cole?
- 0:12Speaker 2: If you got to pick one right now after yesterday,
- 0:14Speaker 2: who you taking? That is so mean.
- 0:18Speaker 3: It's hard because of on one hand, like phase on
- 0:20Speaker 3: Brandon looked awesome throwing the football.
- 0:22Speaker 4: He was awesome.
- 0:23Speaker 3: And I don't care that it was against Furman. That
- 0:25Speaker 3: is a freshman that is looking the part of a
- 0:27Speaker 3: veteran running an offense.
- 0:28Speaker 4: That was great.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I think that's simply because of Keelan Russell gives you
- 0:32Speaker 3: an opportunity to add a second year to Alabama's offense
- 0:35Speaker 3: that is necessary to win. I will take Keelan Russell
- 0:38Speaker 3: by like a slight hair because the way that I
- 0:40Speaker 3: would describe Keelan Russell right now, Keelan Russell is the
- 0:44Speaker 3: perfect embodiment of a Kalen DeBoer quarterback.
- 0:47Speaker 4: That he has had the last two years.
- 0:48Speaker 3: He has the mobility, the speed, and the physicality of
- 0:52Speaker 3: what you have with the Jalen Milrow. But he also
- 0:54Speaker 3: has the touch, the accuracy, and I think really solid
- 0:58Speaker 3: decision making the way Ty Simpson had.
- 1:00Speaker 4: So if you put those two in.
- 1:01Speaker 3: One body, that is the Duncanville product that was on
- 1:04Speaker 3: display yesterday in a 48-10 win. There are some things
- 1:07Speaker 3: he's got to clean on up, but there's a lot
- 1:09Speaker 3: of things that Alabama's got to clean on up that
- 1:10Speaker 3: was not his reckoning. The one thing I will say
- 1:14Speaker 3: about Keelan Russell, and this is where maybe I would
- 1:15Speaker 3: take phase on Brandon in a slight lean.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Dude, I get you're tough. I love the fact that
- 1:20Speaker 4: you are not afraid of any competition. Go the hell down.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Give yourself up.
- 1:24Speaker 3: You are not surviving a season against Oklahoma's defense and
- 1:27Speaker 3: Texas A & M' s defense and Georgia's defense if you
- 1:29Speaker 3: want to play that way. And Faison Brandon made those
- 1:32Speaker 3: right calls. But one team ended up getting a 38-point
- 1:36Speaker 3: win against a better competition, and you still have your questions.
- 1:39Speaker 3: And one team beat the brakes off of an FCS program,
- 1:44Speaker 3: and Faison Brandon didn't play in the second half. I mean,
- 1:46Speaker 3: that's where we are. Talk to me after Georgia Tech,
- 1:51Speaker 3: but both looked really well.
- 1:52Speaker 4: I'll take Keelan Russell by a hair.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I really liked, maybe just to be the contrarian, and
- 2:01Speaker 1: I do think ECU would take Furman out fairly easily,
- 2:05Speaker 1: so I think level of competition is important too. I
- 2:09Speaker 1: really like the way that Faison looked within that offense.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Also, being a true freshman, just a little younger....
- 2:16Speaker 1: His mobility, the way that he can make guys miss,
- 2:19Speaker 1: the way that he can get around an edge. I'm
- 2:21Speaker 1: not saying that Keelan can't. But man, it's kind of
- 2:25Speaker 1: like when we were talking about Malachi and Jeremiah. Jeremiah,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you're not a loser no matter who you get in
- 2:32Speaker 1: these two. Faison was so impressive as a true freshman
- 2:34Speaker 1: to me. Again, so was Russell. They were really, really
- 2:39Speaker 1: freaking good. And yeah, both really, really impressive. Tom, I'll
- 2:44Speaker 1: shut up and let you talk. I love their skill sets.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I think the ceiling is high.
- 2:51Speaker 5: You saw young quarterbacks doing young quarterback things against bad competition,
- 2:56Speaker 5: plenty of talent. I remember in 2024, a gentleman playing
- 3:02Speaker 5: for the University of Florida hung 456 yards on Sanford,
- 3:07Speaker 5: and the entire world freaked out.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Is this the second coming?
- 3:11Speaker 5: Can he walk on water?
- 3:13Speaker 2: You guys remember DJ Lagway, right?
- 3:16Speaker 3: I mean, we had the full DJ Lagway experience last night.
- 3:20Speaker 2: One step at a time.
- 3:21Speaker 5: This is an outstanding start against bad competition for both
- 3:26Speaker 5: these SEC teams that have high aspirations. Alabama probably more
- 3:30Speaker 5: so than Tennessee. Wait and see. I love the skill sets.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I think the pedigree is there. What happens when the
- 3:37Speaker 5: bullets start flying? What happens when you start taking contact,
- 3:40Speaker 5: when your feet are not settled in the pocket and
- 3:42Speaker 5: you have to make decisions from the pocket? I think
- 3:45Speaker 5: that's going to be the challenge inevitably for both these guys.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Love what I saw.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Can't wait to see more against actual competition.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I'll get right back to the clip.
- 3:53Speaker 1: But first, I want to give some love to PrizePix
- 3:56Speaker 1: over on the live show. We picked all of these
- 3:59Speaker 1: picks that you're seeing there on the screen. Make sure
- 4:02Speaker 1: that you are locked in with PrizePix. We're all new

- 4:06Speaker 1: in lineups instantly. Use the code HMA. We took the
- 4:10Speaker 1: more on just about everything. So go check that out.
- 4:12Speaker 1: We appreciate PrizePix for their support. Now back to the clip.
- 4:15Speaker 3: By the way, yesterday, because of a five touchdown performance,
- 4:19Speaker 3: another fun fact, Faison Brandon is the youngest quarterback in
- 4:22Speaker 3: SEC history to account more than four touchdowns in a
- 4:26Speaker 3: single game, edging out one Jalen hurts by one day.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Ooh, that is a fun fact.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah. I, I, you wondered again, level of competition, but
- 4:38Speaker 1: I just wondered for phase on specifically how it would
- 4:40Speaker 1: look as a true freshman. And I think Georgia tech
- 4:45Speaker 1: next week, I don't know how much of a step
- 4:46Speaker 1: up in competition it is, from Furman after watching them
- 4:49Speaker 1: on Thursday night.
- 4:49Speaker 4: It's a step up. But it is. It's not much.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not much.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It's a slight step, right?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Like it's a step stool maybe is the best way
- 4:57Speaker 1: to say it.
- 5:01Speaker 5: If I'm going up a staircase, I took a step
- 5:04Speaker 5: or two up.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Okay, here's a good way to put this I think
- 5:07Speaker 4: would be fun.
- 5:08Speaker 3: When you look at the way that Faison Brandon played
- 5:12Speaker 3: yesterday and you look at the way that Keelan Russell
- 5:14Speaker 3: played yesterday, Do you feel different about these teams? Because
- 5:17Speaker 3: on one hand, I don't feel different about Alabama because
- 5:20Speaker 3: I thought that Alabama was a 9-win team if you
- 5:23Speaker 3: get a good version of Keelan Russell. I think that
- 5:25Speaker 3: now they're probably a 10-win team that can go to
- 5:27Speaker 3: the playoff. I feel a lot better about the direction
- 5:30Speaker 3: of what the Tennessee offense can look like and them
- 5:33Speaker 3: being able to pull off upsets with Faison Brandon.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I think that's more of a fun way. The ceiling's
- 5:36Speaker 4: a lot higher.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I agree with that.
- 5:38Speaker 5: I feel better about Alabama, I think, just because Keelan
- 5:42Speaker 5: gives them that X factor. He can be an eraser
- 5:45Speaker 5: for certain things because of what he can do with
- 5:46Speaker 5: his legs. Definitely worried about Ryan Coleman-Williams. Did he get
- 5:51Speaker 5: paid after his freshman year and then is just kind
- 5:53Speaker 5: of checked out?
- 5:54Speaker 2: I mean, he got paid before his freshman year, I
- 5:57Speaker 2: would think.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he got paid because he was a five-star plus
- 5:59Speaker 3: and he stuck around with Keelan. The weird part is,
- 6:02Speaker 3: here's how weird Alabama fans are. We were bitching about
- 6:06Speaker 3: the way that he dropped two balls once again. And
- 6:10Speaker 3: yet he still led the team in receptions, receiving yards,
- 6:14Speaker 3: and had a 100-yard game. It's so brutal because of
- 6:19Speaker 3: how much we've been plagued in the past by what
- 6:21Speaker 3: it looked like.
- 6:22Speaker 4: That's the problem.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Alabama running the football again against East Carolina. 227 yards rushing,
- 6:31Speaker 5: five touchdowns on the ground. Far cry from what they
- 6:33Speaker 5: were last year. Can they do that against actual credible
- 6:36Speaker 5: SEC defenses? Jury's still out. So I was more impressed
- 6:40Speaker 5: with Keelan Russell and Alabama overall because I think that
- 6:44Speaker 5: was the huge question the entire offseason. What the hell
- 6:46Speaker 5: is Alabama's quarterback situation going to be? And Russell gives
- 6:49Speaker 5: you some confidence.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I think Tennessee still has some figuring out to do. Again,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I thought their defense was fine yesterday, but you're playing Furman.
- 6:59Speaker 1: But to Cole's point, Yeah. I think Tennessee can pull
- 7:02Speaker 1: an upset that maybe you weren't expecting now because of
- 7:05Speaker 1: what maybe the ceiling is on that offense.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I agree with Tom.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Like I had Alabama at 10 and two before yesterday.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I got Alabama at 10 and two now, like not
- 7:12Speaker 1: much has changed there. But with Tennessee, I think I
- 7:17Speaker 1: had them at closer to like seven and five, eight
- 7:18Speaker 1: and four. And now I might be closer to like nine,
- 7:21Speaker 1: nine and three, right? Like, maybe bump them up a
- 7:24Speaker 1: half a win. Um, I've, you know, again, we'll find
- 7:28Speaker 1: out more about Texas this week, but Texas has got
- 7:30Speaker 1: to go to Knoxville.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I think that's going to be a very difficult.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Game, but who's to say the Tennessee's offense doesn't go
- 7:36Speaker 1: off in a game like that at some point this year.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Um, so yeah, I'm a little higher on Tennessee.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I'm probably about the same on Bama because I already
- 7:46Speaker 1: was really high on them. So I'm not, I'm not
- 7:48Speaker 1: bumping up Bama to 11 wins because I probably had
- 7:51Speaker 1: Bama's right there with LSU and I'm a little higher
- 7:55Speaker 1: on LSU now too.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So I think it, as we get more data points,
- 7:58Speaker 2: we'll certainly know.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Like going, going into the season.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I think if you did not know anything about the quarterbacks,
- 8:03Speaker 3: you could see a scenario to where Tennessee goes six
- 8:05Speaker 3: and six.
- 8:06Speaker 4: I don't see that anymore. Now I see eight and four. Yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 2: They're going to beat all the teams that they should beat.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I would imagine.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Right?
- 8:14Speaker 1: Weird things happen, but Tennessee probably in a really good spot.
- 8:18Speaker 1: They went a really good spot and we'll see how
- 8:20Speaker 1: the next few weeks play out and find out.
