- 0:06Speaker 1: And we're back to the Craigway Show. Have a message
- 0:10Speaker 1: for Craig, share it by using the talkback feature on
- 0:13Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Continuing here on a Monday afternoon here on Sports Radio
- 0:27Speaker 2: AM thirteen hundred ZONEG Wade, joined by the producer Cameron Parker.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It is official Jaxas soccer team in the NCAA Tournament.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We knew they hey, we knew they were going to
- 0:38Speaker 2: get in anyway, and b we knew for sure they
- 0:41Speaker 2: were getting in because they got the automatic bid after
- 0:46Speaker 2: winning the Southeastern Conference Championship yesterday winning the SEC Tournament
- 0:50Speaker 2: final over South Carolina. Wanted nothing first Texas team to
- 0:54Speaker 2: win an SEC championship. So the law Warrens will be
- 1:02Speaker 2: at home to open NCAA tournament play like we thought
- 1:07Speaker 2: would be the case, and they'll be at home six
- 1:12Speaker 2: o'clock Friday night at Mike A. Myers Track at Soccer
- 1:17Speaker 2: Stadium to host the Terriers of Boston University. So they
- 1:24Speaker 2: are Texas, by the way, is the number four seed
- 1:29Speaker 2: in their region. Duke the number one seed, the two
- 1:33Speaker 2: seed is UCLA, the three is Iowa. The fourst Texas,
- 1:40Speaker 2: Michigan State is five, Georgetown six Virginia Tech seven and
- 1:46Speaker 2: Texas Tech, who owns a winterter Texas this season is
- 1:49Speaker 2: the number eight seed. And the way they do it
- 1:52Speaker 2: is just it got it split up into the four regions,
- 1:54Speaker 2: but they don't name it like you're going to a
- 1:57Speaker 2: specific site because you would go to the higher seated team.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So if the Longhorns win, then the following weekend they
- 2:06Speaker 2: would host the winner of the Michigan State Western Michigan game.
- 2:09Speaker 2: If they were to get to the sweet sixteen into
- 2:12Speaker 2: the quarterfinals, that would be probably at Duke if Duke
- 2:22Speaker 2: maintainance hits number one seed. So anyway, there's the scene
- 2:28Speaker 2: for Texas in the NCAA Soccer Tournament. They will play
- 2:31Speaker 2: Friday evening at six o'clock at Mike A. Meyers Stadium
- 2:35Speaker 2: against Boston University. So again, congratulations to the Longhorns and
- 2:39Speaker 2: coach Angela Kelly and will be on with us tomorrow
- 2:42Speaker 2: afternoon in the three o'clock hour in the program. All right,
- 2:45Speaker 2: let's bring you some more conversation with long Worns head
- 2:50Speaker 2: coach Steve Circusian from the news conference, and.
- 2:56Speaker 3: He was asked.
- 2:57Speaker 2: About if it was a blessing that a lot of
- 3:01Speaker 2: his players are too young to remember that Texas and
- 3:04Speaker 2: Arkansas was a rivalry, a big rivalry back in the
- 3:09Speaker 2: days of the Southwest Conference. They played a few times
- 3:11Speaker 2: in non conference. When he was asked, is that a blessing?
- 3:14Speaker 2: Is that a good thing?
- 3:15Speaker 4: Well, I think you know, here for us especially, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 4: history and tradition is very important here, and we always
- 3:21Speaker 4: try to acknowledge our tradition. We always try to acknowledge
- 3:24Speaker 4: the history, the great teams, the great coaches, the great players,
- 3:27Speaker 4: the great rivalries, and this one has been one that
- 3:31Speaker 4: was for a long long time the rivalry, and so
- 3:34Speaker 4: the fact that we get to play it again, you know,
- 3:36Speaker 4: we definitely respect it and honor it that way. But
- 3:39Speaker 4: it kind of ends there for us. It wouldn't matter
- 3:42Speaker 4: who the next opponent is. If we have to prepare
- 3:45Speaker 4: better than we normally would prepare, then we probably weren't.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Preparing good enough for the other games.
- 3:50Speaker 4: And so our preparation now is back into getting anamory
- 3:54Speaker 4: with what we need to do so that we can
- 3:56Speaker 4: be the best version of ourselves Saturday. And I think,
- 4:00Speaker 4: you know, Longhorn Nation deserves that. I think Arkansas deserves
- 4:03Speaker 4: that because they didn't get the best version of us
- 4:05Speaker 4: four years ago, and we need to make sure that
- 4:07Speaker 4: we give them our best version this time around.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I think that's a really good point there.
- 4:11Speaker 2: If you're pouring all your energies and giving a much
- 4:14Speaker 2: better maybe you.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Didn't do it for some of the other games. It's
- 4:17Speaker 3: important there. Back as we continued.
- 4:26Speaker 2: In talking about Texas being on the road, they've been
- 4:28Speaker 2: good on the road lately, going all the way back
- 4:31Speaker 2: to the Oklahoma State game on the road the last time.
- 4:34Speaker 2: And is there a particular reason that Sark can figure
- 4:36Speaker 2: out why Texas has been so good on the road.
- 4:39Speaker 4: You know, I think that I think our culture, our connectivity,
- 4:44Speaker 4: our love for one another has been a big piece
- 4:48Speaker 4: of that puzzle. You know, our guys are very connected.
- 4:51Speaker 4: When we go on the road. It's a smaller group,
- 4:52Speaker 4: it's a smaller team on the road. There's less fans obviously,
- 4:57Speaker 4: and we need each other. We have to lean into
- 4:59Speaker 4: each other, we have to pour into one another. And
- 5:02Speaker 4: to do that, you know, you can't just turn it
- 5:05Speaker 4: on the week of the game. And I think that
- 5:06Speaker 4: it speaks volumes to the connectivity that these guys have
- 5:09Speaker 4: in that locker room that they can really lean into
- 5:12Speaker 4: one another on the road. They can hold each other
- 5:15Speaker 4: accountable on the road of what's acceptable and what's not
- 5:19Speaker 4: and how we're going to perform and the mindset that
- 5:21Speaker 4: we need to be in. I think it takes great
- 5:23Speaker 4: poise and composure on the road, and I think that
- 5:26Speaker 4: we've learned and grown into that aspect of.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It as well as well.
- 5:30Speaker 4: You know, one of the worst things that can happen
- 5:32Speaker 4: on the road, especially in a rivalry games, you get emotional,
- 5:36Speaker 4: and when you start to play the game emotional, that's
- 5:38Speaker 4: when mistakes and selfless acts occur. We definitely want the emotion,
- 5:42Speaker 4: but man, we need our poise and composure on the
- 5:45Speaker 4: road and stay clear minded and focused on what we need.
- 5:48Speaker 3: To do all right now.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Last hour we heard Sark talk about when asked about
- 5:52Speaker 2: the fumbling issue and Jared Gibson, and he said, Jerk,
- 5:54Speaker 2: we'll be carrying a football all around the forty acres today. Now,
- 6:00Speaker 2: there was a method to the madness. It's not just
- 6:02Speaker 2: punishment that you might think. Now, you fumbled, so you
- 6:04Speaker 2: got to carry the football with the area where Vince
- 6:06Speaker 2: Lombardi did it back in the day with the Packers
- 6:08Speaker 2: and stuff like that. So it's not just that there
- 6:11Speaker 2: is a method to the madness, and he was asked
- 6:13Speaker 2: about Yeah, I think it was our friend Jeff Jones
- 6:16Speaker 2: and k you asked him, what are the rules about
- 6:19Speaker 2: how he is to carry the football? Does he have
- 6:22Speaker 2: to have it in class with him? Have to have
- 6:24Speaker 2: it in the tank, you know, the Texas Athletic nutritions,
- 6:27Speaker 2: into the dining hall. Does he have to have it
- 6:29Speaker 2: with him? You know what? What are the rules governing this?
- 6:32Speaker 1: What are the rules? It's all that And it's the
- 6:34Speaker 1: form of it too.
- 6:34Speaker 4: It's not just you know, carrying around like Walter Payton
- 6:37Speaker 4: used to do it, you know, like a loaf of bread.
- 6:38Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's tucked up in here as wrist
- 6:40Speaker 4: above his elbows, tied to his rib cage, he's got
- 6:43Speaker 4: he's got his claw on the ball. It's all those things.
- 6:46Speaker 4: It's just trying to get some muscle memory. And it's
- 6:48Speaker 4: also just a mindset of the value of the ball.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:51Speaker 4: It's the most important thing in our program, and a
- 6:55Speaker 4: lot of times him having that ball reminds everybody else
- 6:58Speaker 4: in the organization of how important that ball is to us.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 2: So, I mean, like I said, a method to the
- 7:03Speaker 2: madness where tight to the rib cage up there and
- 7:07Speaker 2: cradled in nicely. Muscle memory is the reason for it.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Plus he wants him to you know, not fumble, hold
- 7:15Speaker 2: onto it all right. Uh, Trey Moore had a really
- 7:19Speaker 2: good game set. Probably his best game is a long wruinn.
- 7:21Speaker 2: He's played really well and he's done well throughout the season.
- 7:24Speaker 2: So is there something specific that Trey Moore seems to
- 7:28Speaker 2: do particularly well well?
- 7:30Speaker 4: I think one a he garners attention, you know, you know,
- 7:33Speaker 4: when any time that he's pass rushing, you know, is
- 7:37Speaker 4: there is the slide going to him as a running
- 7:40Speaker 4: back working to him. I think he does an excellent
- 7:42Speaker 4: job running our games with our interior defensive lineman.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I think he's a really versatile player.
- 7:47Speaker 4: You know, Tray can play off the ball, he can
- 7:49Speaker 4: play on the ball, he can play both sides into
- 7:51Speaker 4: the boundary to the field, and he has a really
- 7:53Speaker 4: high football like you and uh, the fact that now
- 7:56Speaker 4: it's two games in a row, the ball has been
- 7:58Speaker 4: on the ground and number eight is the one who's
- 8:00Speaker 4: recovered those two fumbles. It's just his awareness level And
- 8:04Speaker 4: I get it. We always want to look at the
- 8:05Speaker 4: stats of sacks and that should determine how a guy's playing.
- 8:09Speaker 4: I think what it tells us is he's not playing
- 8:11Speaker 4: a selfish brand of football where it's just about trying
- 8:14Speaker 4: to sack the quarterback. He's playing a brand of football
- 8:17Speaker 4: against the run and the pass. He's he's getting himself
- 8:20Speaker 4: to the football. He's playing with good effort, and he's
- 8:22Speaker 4: showing a lot of versatility. And so we're we're really
- 8:26Speaker 4: fortunate that he's that he's joined us because he's playing
- 8:28Speaker 4: good football right now.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Our friend and colie, Roger Wallaston asked Sark about Taylor Green,
- 8:32Speaker 2: the Arkansas quarterback. Big fella like six six and two
- 8:35Speaker 2: fifty and he can get around, and he was asked
- 8:37Speaker 2: about his ability his mobility and his abilities pose a problem.
- 8:43Speaker 4: First of all, he's huge, I mean the guy that
- 8:45Speaker 4: his size that can run the way that he runs,
- 8:47Speaker 4: and sometimes you don't think he's covering as much ground
- 8:52Speaker 4: as he is. But the stride length is so long
- 8:54Speaker 4: that he's able to cover ground. And so the explosive
- 8:57Speaker 4: plays that he uses with his legs, his ability to
- 9:00Speaker 4: make all the throws down the field. Coach Petrino's, you know,
- 9:05Speaker 4: an elite offensive play caller and offensive schemers, so they
- 9:09Speaker 4: put him in really good positions when they're in the
- 9:11Speaker 4: zone red game, the quarterback run game. They put him
- 9:13Speaker 4: in really good positions for the shots down the field
- 9:16Speaker 4: and the drop back pass game. So you have to
- 9:18Speaker 4: defend a lot of offense, and then when you have
- 9:21Speaker 4: a guy like him running it, it can be extremely challenging.
- 9:24Speaker 2: He was also asked about the fact here's his team
- 9:28Speaker 2: with one loss in SEC play. Texas hanging him has
- 9:32Speaker 2: one loss in SEC play, Tennessee has one loss in
- 9:35Speaker 2: SEC play. Those three are sitting at the top of
- 9:39Speaker 2: the standings in terms of in the lost column.
- 9:41Speaker 3: So it's hard. Asked you like your spot being there.
- 9:45Speaker 4: I'll be sure to remind him, don't be mad at me.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Might be mad at TKR, but anyway, I don't. We
- 9:53Speaker 4: really can only control we can control, you know. And
- 9:56Speaker 4: we stubbed our tow a few weeks ago, like I said,
- 9:59Speaker 4: we have been in this position before where we feel
- 10:02Speaker 4: like we go into every Saturday and now from here
- 10:04Speaker 4: on out, like this is an SEC championship game and
- 10:07Speaker 4: we don't want to leave it up to anybody else
- 10:09Speaker 4: to win or lose, to to give us an opportunity
- 10:12Speaker 4: to get into that game. We can control it ourselves
- 10:15Speaker 4: right now, and that's a great place to be in.
- 10:18Speaker 4: But we have to do it one game at a time,
- 10:20Speaker 4: and we have to view Saturday against Arkansas as if
- 10:22Speaker 4: it's an SEC championship game, and because in reality it is.
- 10:26Speaker 1: If we want to get there, we got to win Saturday.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Playing and simple, you got to keep doing it.
- 10:32Speaker 2: He's also asked how did he treat the rivalries at
- 10:36Speaker 2: other schools. Remember's have Washington and you dub at Oregon
- 10:39Speaker 2: and Washington State for the Apple Cup USC at UCL, Like,
- 10:42Speaker 2: how did he deal with that?
- 10:43Speaker 3: And the players deal with that rivalries? It is other stops,
- 10:46Speaker 3: you know.
- 10:47Speaker 4: I haven't I haven't ever done the ex player stuff.
- 10:50Speaker 4: I feel like sometimes they get a little too emotional.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I've been in rooms where the ex players have come in.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I'm like, holy cow, I mean this is this is
- 10:58Speaker 4: really But in this day and age, I don't know
- 11:02Speaker 4: if you need bulletin board material because of you guys
- 11:06Speaker 4: and Twitter and everything else and media coverage and so
- 11:09Speaker 4: our guys read enough see enough to know it's a
- 11:12Speaker 4: big game.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And my job as a coach.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Is to keep them really clear minded and focused on
- 11:17Speaker 4: the task at hand, one day at a time, so
- 11:19Speaker 4: that they can put themselves in position to perform well Saturday.
- 11:22Speaker 4: I think when you get too emotional, your mind gets
- 11:25Speaker 4: cluttered and you miss details, and we're better when we're
- 11:28Speaker 4: really detail oriented on.
- 11:29Speaker 1: What we need to do Saturday at eleven AM.
- 11:32Speaker 2: All right, we're going to hear a little more from
- 11:33Speaker 2: us coming up, and a couple other notes when we
- 11:35Speaker 2: continue on sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of
- 11:38Speaker 2: the iHeartRadio app.
