- 0:22Speaker 1: Joe Buck. My one on one player interview is with
- 0:25Speaker 1: Jake Browning as we discuss the challenging life of a
- 0:28Speaker 1: backup quarterback. And in our nother faux segment, we'll get
- 0:32Speaker 1: the inside scoop on the one in two Broncos from

- 1:06Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since Rudy Johnson,
- 1:12Speaker 1: the former Bengals running back, passed away this week at
- 1:15Speaker 1: the age of forty five. I was working in local
- 1:18Speaker 1: TV when Rudy played for Cincinnati, and I think you
- 1:21Speaker 1: can make a strong case that he is the most
- 1:24Speaker 1: underrated player in team history prior to this week. If
- 1:29Speaker 1: you asked one hundred Bengals fans who holds the team
- 1:31Speaker 1: record for rushing yards in a season, I think the
- 1:34Speaker 1: overwhelming majority would have said Corey Dillon. And if they
- 1:38Speaker 1: were told that was incorrect, and I guess again, I
- 1:41Speaker 1: suspect their next choice would have been Joe Mixon or
- 1:45Speaker 1: James Brooks. The correct answer, of course, is Rudy Johnson,
- 1:48Speaker 1: who set the team record with four hundred and fifty
- 1:51Speaker 1: eight rushing yards in two thousand and five. That was
- 1:55Speaker 1: four yards more than the team record he had set
- 1:58Speaker 1: one year earlier, so Rudy actually has the top two
- 2:02Speaker 1: spots in the record book. He also holds the team
- 2:06Speaker 1: record for carries in a game with a mind boggling
- 2:09Speaker 1: forty three. That's tied for second most in NFL history,
- 2:13Speaker 1: behind Washington's Jamie Morris, who ran the ball forty five
- 2:17Speaker 1: times in a loss to the Bengals in nineteen ninety eight.
- 2:21Speaker 1: In the words of team president Mike Brown, quote, Rudy
- 2:25Speaker 1: was a fine person and an excellent running back. He
- 2:28Speaker 1: was dependable and productive as a player, and very popular
- 2:32Speaker 1: among his teammates. Everyone liked him and saw him as
- 2:36Speaker 1: a dear friend. We are deeply saddened by his passing. Now,
- 2:42Speaker 1: let's get to my first guest. Who will be in
- 2:44Speaker 1: the National TV booth on Monday night in Denver. It's
- 2:50Speaker 1: the Bengals and Broncos on Monday Night Football. And it
- 2:53Speaker 1: is great to catch up with a guy I first
- 2:55Speaker 1: met when we were broadcasting minor league baseball games many
- 2:59Speaker 1: many years ago. ESPN's Joe Buck. Joe, you were behind
- 3:03Speaker 1: the mic two years ago for Jake Browning's second NFL start.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I call it the Jake Browning Game. He completed more
- 3:11Speaker 1: than eighty six percent of his passes in an upset
- 3:13Speaker 1: win in Jacksonville. What do you remember about that night?
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's like the Michael Jordan game, the
- 3:21Speaker 2: Flu game. It just gets a new name. Troy and I,
- 3:26Speaker 2: I don't know. Halfway through that thing, we're like, damn,
- 3:28Speaker 2: this guy's good. Like he looked fantastic, and there have
- 3:32Speaker 2: been It wasn't just that. I mean there have been
- 3:35Speaker 2: other games and other moments. I know, you guys are
- 3:39Speaker 2: coming off a bad one at Minnesota, but you're two
- 3:42Speaker 2: and one and you want to flush it. But yeah,
- 3:44Speaker 2: I think there's a very basic scale that you can
- 3:52Speaker 2: judge these guys on, and it comes down to can
- 3:55Speaker 2: they play or can they not play? And I think
- 3:59Speaker 2: we both walked out of the booth that night like
- 4:01Speaker 2: this guy can play. He's got something to him. There's
- 4:04Speaker 2: something different about him than the typical guy coming in
- 4:08Speaker 2: who's basically been standing there holding the clipboard and who
- 4:12Speaker 2: I'm sure probably hopes is not going to come in.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I felt like he was confident. He looked like the
- 4:19Speaker 2: team was his. I think that's another scale too, It's like,
- 4:22Speaker 2: does it look like the guys around him are excited
- 4:26Speaker 2: to play with and for him? And I think the
- 4:28Speaker 2: answer was a resounding yes in that game. And I'm
- 4:33Speaker 2: fully expecting he and they to come out and look
- 4:37Speaker 2: a lot different than they did in Minneapolis when we
- 4:40Speaker 2: all get to Denver.
- 4:42Speaker 1: It was a rough game last week. Did it change
- 4:44Speaker 1: your view of the Bengals at all?
- 4:48Speaker 2: The current Bengals the Bengals as they are now.
- 4:51Speaker 1: No, I.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Think this is a team that can definitely hang in there.
- 4:56Speaker 2: They can not only survive punches, but deliver them. Troy
- 5:01Speaker 2: and I are both and I don't want to speak
- 5:03Speaker 2: for him, but I know he would say the same
- 5:05Speaker 2: if he were on here and I wasn't. He and
- 5:07Speaker 2: I are both big Zach Taylor fans. We had you
- 5:11Speaker 2: guys in the preseason that game against the Commanders, and
- 5:14Speaker 2: both when Zach hung up on our zoom call, we're
- 5:19Speaker 2: both like, you know, we've talked to him a bunch
- 5:20Speaker 2: of times, but we had a blast with him. You
- 5:23Speaker 2: can tell he's so smart, he's aware of every facet
- 5:27Speaker 2: of that team, and we both hung up going. We
- 5:31Speaker 2: really liked that guy, and so it's easy to root
- 5:33Speaker 2: for somebody like Zach. The biggest fan of Joe Burrows
- 5:40Speaker 2: in media is Troy because I think, even though he
- 5:45Speaker 2: may or may not admit it, I think Joe reminds
- 5:49Speaker 2: Troy of Troy and the way he played the position
- 5:54Speaker 2: and the kind of you know, take no prisoners gunslinger confident.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I feel that, and so every time we do a
- 6:05Speaker 2: game when Joe's in it and I'm like, there he is, Troy,
- 6:07Speaker 2: there's your favorite player. And and you know, every time
- 6:11Speaker 2: we hang up with Joe Burrow, it's like, well, Joe,
- 6:13Speaker 2: you know, we're big fans of yours. That's kind of
- 6:15Speaker 2: how we end every conference caller zoom call with with
- 6:18Speaker 2: Joe Burrow. So yeah, I feel like there's the shell
- 6:24Speaker 2: there and within that, within that casing, there's room there
- 6:29Speaker 2: for Jake Browning to do some good things. There's obviously
- 6:31Speaker 2: a ton of talent around him, and this team can
- 6:35Speaker 2: win with Jake Browning and hopefully, you know, I'm not
- 6:37Speaker 2: telling you anything you don't hope for every night before
- 6:40Speaker 2: the end of the year Joe Burrow comes back.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Are you and Troy flabbergasted by just how rotten Joe
- 6:46Speaker 1: Burrow's injury luck has been.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It's just a as a football fan. For you don't
- 6:52Speaker 2: have to be a Bengals fan or Joe Burrow fan.
- 6:55Speaker 2: As a football fan, it's got a crush you. I mean,
- 6:59Speaker 2: I can't imagine what it's like for Bengals fans. I
- 7:01Speaker 2: can't imagine what it's like for people who have Joe
- 7:04Speaker 2: Burrow on their fantasy team. But beyond that, I just
- 7:09Speaker 2: think he makes the league better. He makes the league
- 7:12Speaker 2: more interesting. Everybody they play, It's like, Okay, Joe Burrow's
- 7:16Speaker 2: on TV tonight or today, I want to watch that game.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Because you don't have to be Troy Aikman. You know,
- 7:22Speaker 2: you can be just a casual fan and go, Okay,
- 7:25Speaker 2: that guy looks different. He's tough, and by the way,
- 7:28Speaker 2: that should never be in question. These these are legitimate,
- 7:32Speaker 2: big time injuries. He doesn't complain about injuries. I don't
- 7:36Speaker 2: feel like he ever gives himself kind of that built
- 7:39Speaker 2: in excuse. And you and I both met many athletes
- 7:42Speaker 2: in the sports that we've covered that kind of always
- 7:45Speaker 2: have that in the back, like, ah, I'm not really
- 7:47Speaker 2: feeling that good. I'm you know, in the case of Burrow,
- 7:50Speaker 2: the wrist is he never does He never does that.
- 7:52Speaker 2: It's it's I'm good enough, I'm ready to go play.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So there's never a question of any of that stuff.
- 7:59Speaker 2: But yeah, I think the casual fan has to be
- 8:04Speaker 2: mildly heartbroken that Joe Burrow is not on the field
- 8:07Speaker 2: on Monday night or any Sunday or any Thursday.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Joe, you noted it. The Bengals are still two and one.
- 8:13Speaker 1: They're tied for first in the AFC North. What are
- 8:16Speaker 1: some of the things you think they'll need to do
- 8:18Speaker 1: to stay in the hunt until Joe hopefully returns sometime
- 8:21Speaker 1: in December.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Well, I mean, obviously, and then don't fumble five times
- 8:27Speaker 2: and lose three and throw two interceptions and pick sixes
- 8:31Speaker 2: and fumble's return for touch. Don't do any of that.
- 8:34Speaker 2: That would be a good place to start. But I
- 8:38Speaker 2: think find a running game. I mean, the running game
- 8:42Speaker 2: has been frustrating to this point. Chase Brown is a
- 8:46Speaker 2: really talented running back. We left that preseason game I
- 8:52Speaker 2: kind of I drafted on my fantasy team TAJ and
- 8:55Speaker 2: kind of stashed him on the bench, thinking, you know,
- 8:59Speaker 2: maybe by the end of the year, this guy between
- 9:02Speaker 2: the tackles is going to be somebody that I may
- 9:05Speaker 2: want to start. Jury's out on that, But I think
- 9:09Speaker 2: the ground game and figuring out a way to open
- 9:12Speaker 2: up some holes. I don't care if you're Joe Burrow,
- 9:14Speaker 2: Joe Montana, Joe Namath or name him. If you can't
- 9:20Speaker 2: run the ball, good luck. And we just did the
- 9:24Speaker 2: game on Monday night with Jared Goff and with Lamar Jackson.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I mean, yes, those are two dynamic quarterbacks. But Lamar's
- 9:33Speaker 2: got Derrick Henry, it can run it himself. And Jared
- 9:36Speaker 2: Goff's got the best combination in the backfield easily in
- 9:40Speaker 2: the NFL with his two running backs, and that's why
- 9:43Speaker 2: he's so good off play action. So you know, if
- 9:46Speaker 2: you want safeties and linebackers to bite and come up
- 9:49Speaker 2: and leave room behind him so that there's room for
- 9:52Speaker 2: the great Jamar Chase and T Higgins and Mike Kasicki
- 9:56Speaker 2: and everybody else to get behind him, and Browning or
- 9:59Speaker 2: anybody else to find him find a running game and
- 10:03Speaker 2: that can be the cure to what ails you.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Jill. Let's talk about this week's opponent, the Denver Broncos.
- 10:09Speaker 1: They're one and two, but they've had the lead in
- 10:11Speaker 1: the fourth quarter in all three games. They lost the
- 10:13Speaker 1: last two on walkoff field goals. How do you viewed
- 10:16Speaker 1: Denver and some of their strengths heading into this game
- 10:19Speaker 1: against Cincinnati.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Well, everybody there, I mean, if you read the clips,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and I read them every day, the Denver Broncos, according
- 10:26Speaker 2: to their sports writers, are the worst team ever assembled.
- 10:29Speaker 2: So their defense is very good. They've got an outstanding
- 10:33Speaker 2: pass rush, they've got the reigning defensive Player of the
- 10:37Speaker 2: Year in Patzertan, you know, as close to a shutdown
- 10:42Speaker 2: corner as you can get in the NFL. But offensively Bononix,
- 10:47Speaker 2: they're calling a sophomore slump now. They're talking about his footwork,
- 10:51Speaker 2: and he's got happy feed and you know, on and
- 10:54Speaker 2: on and on. I think we all over and me included,
- 10:58Speaker 2: we all over act to three weeks of an NFL season.
- 11:04Speaker 2: I think a lot can change between now and the
- 11:07Speaker 2: end of the year. And I believe Denver's a good team.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I believe they've got a really good head coach. I
- 11:12Speaker 2: believe they've got a good young quarterback. He's getting picked
- 11:15Speaker 2: on right now in the Denver media. He missed him
- 11:18Speaker 2: open throws last week and that's going to happen. And
- 11:21Speaker 2: he's still growing and learning. He's in great hands. They're
- 11:25Speaker 2: running games a little bit better than Cincinnati's to this point.
- 11:29Speaker 2: They've got Courtland Sutton, who's a number one receiver. They've
- 11:32Speaker 2: got some good twos and threes behind him. There's a
- 11:36Speaker 2: lot to like, but that's not a team that's playing
- 11:39Speaker 2: well either. And like you said, they're one and two.
- 11:42Speaker 2: You can make an easy case they should be three
- 11:45Speaker 2: and zero. They could be oning three. I mean, they
- 11:49Speaker 2: have not dominated anybody or been dominated by anybody yet,
- 11:53Speaker 2: so I think it's a good matchup. I think it's
- 11:55Speaker 2: a pretty evenly split matchup as far as I'm concerned
- 11:59Speaker 2: going into the game. But they've got a lot of talent.
- 12:01Speaker 2: They've got a coach that'll figure out ways to beat
- 12:04Speaker 2: the Cincinnati defense. That's what he does. Sean Payton sits
- 12:07Speaker 2: up at night figuring out ways to beat defenses, and
- 12:10Speaker 2: I'm sure he'll be doing it for Monday night, so
- 12:12Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to it.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Joe, what's your Sunday routine? Do you watch the best
- 12:17Speaker 1: game of the day? Do you go red zone? Do
- 12:19Speaker 1: you watch the team that you're going to have the
- 12:21Speaker 1: next week? What do you do on a typical Sunday.
- 12:24Speaker 2: It's gonna make every football fan sick, but we kind
- 12:29Speaker 2: of create our own little sports bar without the alcohol.
- 12:32Speaker 2: We sit in a conference room in our hotel. We
- 12:36Speaker 2: have multiple TVs that get trucked in and these poor
- 12:41Speaker 2: people that have to put them together and set them
- 12:43Speaker 2: up every week. I watch him at the end of
- 12:45Speaker 2: our Monday morning meeting, just lugging all this junk down
- 12:48Speaker 2: back into the lobby and out of the door. But yeah,
- 12:52Speaker 2: we for lack of a better better way to describe it,
- 12:56Speaker 2: it's our own red zone. We've got, you know, two
- 12:59Speaker 2: big monitors. There's four boxes on each and we can
- 13:02Speaker 2: kind of zoom in on a game we want to watch.
- 13:04Speaker 2: We don't have handsome yelling at us, but we've got
- 13:08Speaker 2: a bunch of people in there. You know, if something catches,
- 13:13Speaker 2: I'm in there looking at my board. I'm doing my work,
- 13:15Speaker 2: I'm putting stuff on my board, I'm getting ready for
- 13:18Speaker 2: the game. And it's like look up, kind of survey it,
- 13:21Speaker 2: look down, do it will work? Look up? And then
- 13:23Speaker 2: when something happens, it's just good for everybody to be
- 13:26Speaker 2: together and to watch it all together to talk about it.
- 13:31Speaker 2: It just takes a little bit of the guess work
- 13:34Speaker 2: on what we're going to talk about with regard to
- 13:35Speaker 2: the rest of the league when Monday night comes, because
- 13:38Speaker 2: we're all there together watching it, and I kind of
- 13:41Speaker 2: know where Troy's head is on Dallas or Green Bay
- 13:45Speaker 2: or you know, right on down the line, and he
- 13:48Speaker 2: knows where mine is. And you know, if I've got
- 13:51Speaker 2: a question something crosses my mind, or I'm doing my work,
- 13:54Speaker 2: and it's you know, when's the last time player X
- 13:59Speaker 2: did this. I've got two stat guys or research people
- 14:02Speaker 2: sitting there and I can just say it out loud.
- 14:05Speaker 2: The answer comes magically to me. It's a pretty darn
- 14:09Speaker 2: good setup.
- 14:10Speaker 1: That does sound pretty good. Last thing for Joe Buck,
- 14:12Speaker 1: You and Troy have had a great partnership for years
- 14:15Speaker 1: and years, but it just sounds like you're having such
- 14:17Speaker 1: a ball on ESPN. Is it the primetime game? Is
- 14:22Speaker 1: that the standalone game? Is there something about Monday that's
- 14:25Speaker 1: just brought out the best and YouTube guys together?
- 14:28Speaker 2: You know, I think, without going into it too much
- 14:30Speaker 2: because it's boring for everybody else, but when Fox had
- 14:34Speaker 2: the Thursday game and the Sunday games, and we were
- 14:37Speaker 2: doing Thursday Sunday, then Sunday than Thursday Sunday, so I
- 14:42Speaker 2: think it forced us to be a little bit more
- 14:45Speaker 2: run and gone and not so zeroed in on every
- 14:48Speaker 2: detail of every game, which makes you pull back and
- 14:52Speaker 2: have a bigger view of everything, which I think leads
- 14:54Speaker 2: to more room for personality and fun. And I think
- 14:58Speaker 2: then we tap into what we've built over two twenty
- 15:00Speaker 2: four years, which is, you know, a good relationship a
- 15:03Speaker 2: lot of respect. Knowing where the other person's coming from.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I know what's gonna make him laugh. He knows what's
- 15:10Speaker 2: gonna make me laugh. And if I can get him
- 15:12Speaker 2: to laugh, he's a very intense dude. If I can
- 15:15Speaker 2: get him to laugh during the course of the broadcast,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I think it makes for a better listen. I think
- 15:20Speaker 2: it makes him loosen up and we're in a better spot.
- 15:25Speaker 2: So yeah, I think. I think what happened during those
- 15:29Speaker 2: years we did it for four years, maybe change the
- 15:33Speaker 2: way we prepare and then I think ultimately change the
- 15:36Speaker 2: way we interact when we're on TV.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Joe, this has been great. Look forward to seeing you
- 15:41Speaker 1: in Denver, and thanks so much for joining us on
- 15:43Speaker 1: this segment.
- 15:43Speaker 2: All right, buddy, get to see it.
- 15:45Speaker 1: In the last two times the Bengals played on Monday
- 15:48Speaker 1: Night Football with a backup quarterback starting the game, they won,
- 15:53Speaker 1: there was the Jake Browning game in Jacksonville that I
- 15:55Speaker 1: discussed with Joe Buck And if you go back to
- 15:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty, the two ten and one Bengals beat the
- 16:01Speaker 1: eleven and two Pittsburgh Steelers twenty seven to seventeen with
- 16:05Speaker 1: Ryan Finley at quarterback. The Bengals were a double digit
- 16:09Speaker 1: underdog in both of those games. They are a seven
- 16:13Speaker 1: and a half point underdog this week in Denver as
- 16:16Speaker 1: Jake Browning makes his ninth NFL start. I sat down
- 16:19Speaker 1: with the bengals twenty nine year old QB for an
- 16:22Speaker 1: in depth conversation this week. Jake, I got a chuckle
- 16:27Speaker 1: last week when you were talking about your seven starts
- 16:30Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three and you use the term delusional confidence.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I didn't realize that's actually a scientifically based thing, which
- 16:38Speaker 1: means a level of self confidence despite evidence. Did you
- 16:42Speaker 1: have to have delusional confidence to have the success you
- 16:46Speaker 1: had two years ago? Uh?
- 16:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I don't mean maybe not scientifically delusional,
- 16:52Speaker 3: but uh you know, I'd never really played before and
- 16:56Speaker 3: started a game in like olmost five years, and you know,
- 17:02Speaker 3: I think I was probably the first person to come
- 17:04Speaker 3: off four years on Peace Squad to start some games.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And you know, I think step one to winning the
- 17:11Speaker 3: game on game days, going into it, feel confident that
- 17:14Speaker 3: you're going to perform well. And so you know, when
- 17:17Speaker 3: I say delusional, it's probably from outside perspective. But you know,
- 17:20Speaker 3: I know I'm a good player. I've shown that up
- 17:23Speaker 3: for a long time in practice and training camps and
- 17:26Speaker 3: stuff like that, and so, you know, I think from
- 17:30Speaker 3: the outside looking in, it might be delusionable for myself,
- 17:32Speaker 3: like it's it's rooted in fact that you know, I've
- 17:36Speaker 3: put some really good football. I just that was kind
- 17:38Speaker 3: of my first chance to actually play.
- 17:40Speaker 1: You've got a Monday night game coming up this week.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Your second NFL start with a Monday night game in Jacksonville.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I call it the Jake Browning Game. You completed more
- 17:48Speaker 1: than eighty six percent of your passes in an overtime
- 17:51Speaker 1: victory over the Jags. Did that game help you have
- 17:56Speaker 1: real confidence at the NFL level?
- 17:59Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely. I mean I think my first start are
- 18:02Speaker 3: getting even thrown in against the Ravens, I know it
- 18:04Speaker 3: was kind of garbage time, but felt like operated well.
- 18:06Speaker 3: And then the first start, you know, just the chaos
- 18:08Speaker 3: of the week and all that, and then kind of
- 18:10Speaker 3: having that under my belt and knowing you know what
- 18:13Speaker 3: to expect and stuff like that just throughout the week
- 18:15Speaker 3: and you know those feelings on game day that you
- 18:18Speaker 3: kind of have to go through to prepare yourself for
- 18:20Speaker 3: the game. And yeah, I think anytime you actually put
- 18:23Speaker 3: it on tape. You know, it's something to fall back on, like, hey,
- 18:27Speaker 3: I am capable of doing this, and you never really
- 18:30Speaker 3: know until you know.
- 18:32Speaker 1: We're visiting with Jake Browning, You and Joe Burrow good friends,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you spend a ton of time together. Are you just
- 18:37Speaker 1: flabbergasted by his rotten luck when it comes to injuries?
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's super unfortunate, you know, as far
- 18:47Speaker 3: as outside of that, you know, it's just it's unfortunate.
- 18:49Speaker 3: There's not really any other way to put it.
- 18:52Speaker 1: What you say to him, what could you say to him?
- 18:55Speaker 4: Sucks?
- 18:56Speaker 1: I don't.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I mean, I think one of the the reason we
- 18:58Speaker 3: get along is, you know, I kind of know when
- 19:01Speaker 3: he wants to be left alone, and I think, you know,
- 19:05Speaker 3: something like that happens and you're in a high profile position,
- 19:08Speaker 3: like think he knows, like I'm there for my favorite
- 19:10Speaker 3: needs anything. But you know, I'm not going to blow
- 19:12Speaker 3: him up trying to make sure that he knows that.
- 19:15Speaker 3: You know, I said, hope you're feeling better and stuff
- 19:17Speaker 3: like that's like, hey, did anything, let me know, but like,
- 19:20Speaker 3: good luck with everything. And you know, I think he's
- 19:23Speaker 3: got obviously a ton of support. But when it comes
- 19:26Speaker 3: to the football side of things. That's kind of where
- 19:28Speaker 3: I fall in. We're visiting with Jake Browning. I want
- 19:30Speaker 3: to go back to your crazy high school career for
- 19:32Speaker 3: a moment. You still hold the national record for most
- 19:35Speaker 3: touchdown passes by a high school quarterback. I got to
- 19:38Speaker 3: know your tight end Josiadaguara when he was at the
- 19:41Speaker 3: University of Cincinnati. He told me once that you didn't
- 19:43Speaker 3: really have running plays on your high school team.
- 19:46Speaker 1: It was like sometimes you'd scramble or you know, maybe
- 19:49Speaker 1: fourth and inches you'd run, but other than that, you
- 19:51Speaker 1: were basically passing every play.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Was that the case we did actually run the ball,
- 19:57Speaker 3: you know, like five sweeps and stuff like that a
- 19:59Speaker 3: decent amount. And yeah, I mean we were just think
- 20:04Speaker 3: my hometown that by the time you hit high school,
- 20:07Speaker 3: you know, like the junior program's really good. We're running
- 20:09Speaker 3: the high school's offense. And you know, my senior year,
- 20:13Speaker 3: I graduated with probably like at least eight guys that
- 20:17Speaker 3: I played with since I was eight years old, and
- 20:19Speaker 3: we'd all been playing together for a long time. So
- 20:21Speaker 3: you know, I think he gets so many reps and
- 20:24Speaker 3: then you know, you look at our coach and hit
- 20:27Speaker 3: no business being in high school. We were so much
- 20:28Speaker 3: better coach than everybody, it was ridiculous, and just geared
- 20:31Speaker 3: everything around hitting that ten thousand hours, and I think
- 20:34Speaker 3: we reaped the benefits of that.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Your current coach, Zach Taylor, is something of a savant
- 20:39Speaker 1: when it comes to highly successful high school quarterbacks. He
- 20:43Speaker 1: seems kind of obsessed with it. When you arrived in
- 20:45Speaker 1: the building. Did he know all about your days at
- 20:48Speaker 1: fulsome high school?
- 20:49Speaker 3: I think when I arrived in the building, he knew
- 20:50Speaker 3: that I had just come from the Minnesota Vikings facility
- 20:53Speaker 3: and they were our week one opponent. I'm not sure
- 20:55Speaker 3: how much he really knew outside of that.
- 21:00Speaker 1: There. It was out to the University of Washington. You
- 21:02Speaker 1: had a great four year career there. You started your
- 21:05Speaker 1: first game as a freshman. How nerve racking is that
- 21:09Speaker 1: when you're a teenager right out of high school.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it was my first time on a sideline for
- 21:15Speaker 3: a college game and I was starting, and you know,
- 21:18Speaker 3: my college coach was Chris Peterson. It was his first
- 21:20Speaker 3: time going back to Boise and so it was a
- 21:23Speaker 3: primetime game and all that. But yeah, I think you
- 21:26Speaker 3: just go into like, I have no idea what this
- 21:28Speaker 3: is going to be like, and I don't really know
- 21:29Speaker 3: what to expect, but here we go, and yeah, we
- 21:34Speaker 3: lost a close game at the end. Ironically, Brett Rippon
- 21:37Speaker 3: was on the other team.
- 21:39Speaker 1: In some ways, is that more nerve wracking than what
- 21:41Speaker 1: you're going to do on Monday Night against the Broncos.
- 21:45Speaker 3: I mean, I would say, so, I've played a decent
- 21:47Speaker 3: amount of football. Now, I've been in not a crazy
- 21:51Speaker 3: amount of stars, but a decent amount of stars. But
- 21:53Speaker 3: I've been on the at least I've been on the
- 21:54Speaker 3: sideline and kind of know like the rhythm of everything.
- 21:57Speaker 3: I mean, I remember I didn't know what a TV
- 21:59Speaker 3: time out was because I had never played in college
- 22:03Speaker 3: or anything. So I remember the first time I run
- 22:04Speaker 3: out there and there's like TV time I'm like, I
- 22:07Speaker 3: don't even know what that was. And so, yeah, I
- 22:10Speaker 3: would say nerve wracking, probably more so in college just
- 22:16Speaker 3: having no experience.
- 22:18Speaker 1: During the time you spent on the Vikings practice squad,
- 22:20Speaker 1: what did you learn about yourself in terms of where
- 22:23Speaker 1: you needed to improve?
- 22:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I recreated my entire throwing motion after college. My
- 22:30Speaker 3: throwing motion was I was always accurate, but I couldn't
- 22:32Speaker 3: really push it down the field. Very far was it
- 22:35Speaker 3: was inconsistent a little bit, and so I changed the
- 22:39Speaker 3: whole thing. Changed my footwork, I changed my throwing motion,
- 22:43Speaker 3: changed my body comp and just now I'm a completely
- 22:47Speaker 3: different person in year four in the NFL than I
- 22:50Speaker 3: was coming in. And uh, you know, I think that
- 22:54Speaker 3: was kind of what revitalized my career a little bit
- 22:58Speaker 3: and allowed me to cotinue to stay in the NFL,
- 23:01Speaker 3: stick around until I got an opportunity. And when that
- 23:03Speaker 3: opportunity came, it was kind of when I could show
- 23:06Speaker 3: some of the things that improved on and that people
- 23:08Speaker 3: inside the building knew, but nobody outside the building ever
- 23:10Speaker 3: really knew.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Was it expensive going to these high profile quarterback gurus
- 23:15Speaker 1: in the off season and try to remake your throwing motion.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, it's not cheap. I would say.
- 23:22Speaker 3: The more nerve wracking part is that you're doing in
- 23:25Speaker 3: the off season not knowing if you're gonna have a
- 23:26Speaker 3: job the following year. You know, if you do have
- 23:30Speaker 3: the job, then ad I mean, it's the best investment
- 23:32Speaker 3: you could ever make, but you don't really know, and
- 23:36Speaker 3: you don't know, Like, I'm gonna work hard all of
- 23:38Speaker 3: February March and then April comes and they draft a
- 23:41Speaker 3: quarterback and you're like, ah, there kind of goes my chance.
- 23:44Speaker 3: They're going to put that guy out there. And so
- 23:46Speaker 3: I think that's what something you're always kind of battling.
- 23:48Speaker 3: But I think for me it was you know, I
- 23:50Speaker 3: couldn't imagine being in a situation where I didn't do
- 23:52Speaker 3: it and then had the regret of like, I should
- 23:55Speaker 3: have done that, and you know, whether I continued to
- 23:58Speaker 3: play or if I just you know, if I was
- 24:01Speaker 3: done after the Vikings cut me, then you know, at
- 24:04Speaker 3: least I would have the peace of mind. I like, hey,
- 24:05Speaker 3: I gave it everything I had.
- 24:07Speaker 1: How close were you to starting a coaching career before
- 24:09Speaker 1: the Bengals called twenty four hours?
- 24:14Speaker 3: I had it all, I had it lined up. I
- 24:16Speaker 3: was getting ready to leave to uh volunteer coach out
- 24:20Speaker 3: of college, just because I didn't want to sit around
- 24:22Speaker 3: waiting for you know, I'd lived my first three years
- 24:26Speaker 3: of my life in the NFL just was so much uncertainty.
- 24:28Speaker 3: I didn't want to sit around waiting for somebody to call,
- 24:30Speaker 3: not knowing if they're going to call, and just get Nancy.
- 24:33Speaker 3: So figured i'd keep myself busy with something. Fortunately, you know,
- 24:38Speaker 3: saved up some money where I could figure out by
- 24:41Speaker 3: myself a little bit of a runway and uh and
- 24:44Speaker 3: then yeah, I got the call. I think Sunday night,
- 24:46Speaker 3: But if I made it to Tuesday, I was probably
- 24:49Speaker 3: gonna drive down to Corvallis and start helping out with
- 24:54Speaker 3: my college coach.
- 24:56Speaker 1: People joke that backup quarterback is the greatest gig in
- 24:59Speaker 1: the world world. You're well compensated, you don't take the hits.
- 25:03Speaker 1: But as a competitor, when people say that, does it
- 25:05Speaker 1: tick you off?
- 25:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think that both can be true.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Like it's it's obviously it's like you said, it's a
- 25:12Speaker 3: high paying job. You're not really doing a whole lot
- 25:15Speaker 3: until you're thrown in there, and it's like no one
- 25:17Speaker 3: is checking in to make sure you're dialed and that
- 25:20Speaker 3: you know everything that's going on. Like you kind of
- 25:22Speaker 3: just have to self manage yourself and make sure that
- 25:25Speaker 3: you know what's going on because everything else is gear everything,
- 25:28Speaker 3: practice meetings, everything is geared towards the starter, and so
- 25:31Speaker 3: it's on you to know. And you know, like last year,
- 25:34Speaker 3: I was, I was ready every single game, but nobody,
- 25:37Speaker 3: nobody knows, So that's the part that's frustrating as a competitor.
- 25:40Speaker 3: You feel like you're working really hard and doing all
- 25:43Speaker 3: these different things without the opportunity to play. And so
- 25:46Speaker 3: I think I think both can be true. But I
- 25:47Speaker 3: think it's throughout my whole career, like having both perspectives
- 25:50Speaker 3: of like, hey, I'm I'm in. I'm in the NFL,
- 25:54Speaker 3: whether it's practice, squad active like you know, I'm not.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I'm not starving, I'm not. There's a lot worst jobs
- 26:00Speaker 3: out there, But am I where I want to be? No,
- 26:04Speaker 3: Like in the same thing as a backup, like it's
- 26:06Speaker 3: a good gig, like I'm we're I'm not going to
- 26:09Speaker 3: deny that, but it's not where I want to be.
- 26:12Speaker 3: And so I think having both those perspectives can help
- 26:14Speaker 3: you continue to drive towards what you want without becoming
- 26:18Speaker 3: bitter in an objectively good position.
- 26:21Speaker 1: After last week's loss, you said, I think you've got
- 26:24Speaker 1: to sit in it. What did that look like for
- 26:26Speaker 1: you in the next twenty four or forty eight hours misery?
- 26:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I think anytime you know, you take it on
- 26:34Speaker 3: the chin like that, it sucks. You put a ton
- 26:37Speaker 3: of work into it, and you go into it with
- 26:41Speaker 3: every intention of it going well and then it just
- 26:43Speaker 3: nothing goes well. And you know, I think that is
- 26:47Speaker 3: probably the biggest adjustment. Like, you know, I've been the
- 26:51Speaker 3: backup for games that didn't go away, that were super lobsided,
- 26:54Speaker 3: and it just doesn't feel, it doesn't doesn't hit the same.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Like I think in those situations, you know, I'd feel
- 26:58Speaker 3: for Joe or like want to be helpful, but you know,
- 27:01Speaker 3: I'd go home and I'd go to bed because I
- 27:04Speaker 3: don't really play, and like when you do play, you
- 27:06Speaker 3: go home, it's hard to sleep, you feel miserable, and
- 27:09Speaker 3: like you got to go through the highs and lows
- 27:13Speaker 3: of being the starter. And I think that's you know,
- 27:15Speaker 3: the position that obviously I wanted to find myself in
- 27:18Speaker 3: and I want to continue to find myself in going forward.
- 27:20Speaker 3: So having you know, a routine, whatever it takes you
- 27:24Speaker 3: to mentally get over it, take obviously, take the the
- 27:28Speaker 3: takeaways that you need to to improve, but then getting
- 27:31Speaker 3: yourself in the back in the fight and continuing to
- 27:36Speaker 3: get ready for the next game and put yourself in
- 27:38Speaker 3: position to bounce back.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Best of luck on Monday night. Thank you. While the
- 27:43Speaker 1: quarterbacks in NFL history who have thrown at least three
- 27:46Speaker 1: hundred passes, which admittedly isn't a huge sample size. Jake
- 27:51Speaker 1: Browning has the highest completion percentage at sixty nine point nine.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Oddly enough, Joe Burrow ranks second on the list at
- 27:59Speaker 1: sixty eight point five. The Bengals Booth Podcast is brought

- 28:23Speaker 1: the Faux segment. The Denver Broncos went to the playoffs
- 28:26Speaker 1: last year, edging Cincinnati for the seventh and final spot
- 28:30Speaker 1: in the AFC with a ten and seven record, but
- 28:33Speaker 1: the Broncos are one and two this year. They opened
- 28:36Speaker 1: with an eight point win over Tennessee before losing back
- 28:40Speaker 1: to back games on walk off field goals to the
- 28:43Speaker 1: Colts and Chargers. Nick Cosmider covers the team for The
- 28:48Speaker 1: Athletic and discussed what's gone wrong in the last two
- 28:51Speaker 1: weeks when he joined Dave Lapham and me on the
- 28:54Speaker 1: Bengals Game Plan Show.
- 28:57Speaker 4: They just have not been able to finish they have had.
- 29:00Speaker 4: If you combine those two games, they had seven opportunities
- 29:04Speaker 4: in the fourth quarter to either create a two score
- 29:07Speaker 4: cushion or.
- 29:08Speaker 2: To go on a drive that won the game, and.
- 29:11Speaker 4: They have not been able to do enough in any
- 29:13Speaker 4: of those situations to get that two score lead. And
- 29:16Speaker 4: you know, obviously, when you look at the root causes
- 29:18Speaker 4: of that, there's been there's been different issues that they've
- 29:21Speaker 4: been kind of uncharacteristically penalized. If you compare it to
- 29:24Speaker 4: last year, you know that they've they've had a few
- 29:27Speaker 4: injuries that they've dealt with. But by and large, I
- 29:29Speaker 4: think that's the biggest takeaway from where they're at. They
- 29:31Speaker 4: could easily be three and zero. Particularly defensively, they've they've
- 29:36Speaker 4: created one of the league's best pass rushes and that's
- 29:38Speaker 4: been dynamic. They've had some sporadic success in the run
- 29:42Speaker 4: game from JK. Dobbins, who's been off to a really
- 29:44Speaker 4: nice start, but in the moments that matter against good teams,
- 29:48Speaker 4: they just have not been able to close the deal.
- 29:52Speaker 5: The Denver Broncos, I mean, when I play you know,
- 29:55Speaker 5: back in the seventies and early eighties, the Denver Broncos
- 30:00Speaker 5: defense was as good as there was in the National
- 30:03Speaker 5: Football League. I mean it was that was when when
- 30:07Speaker 5: you were going up against the Broncos, you knew that
- 30:09Speaker 5: you had to you had to be on your toes.
- 30:12Speaker 5: I mean, you were going to see a lot You're
- 30:14Speaker 5: going to see a lot of different things, and they
- 30:16Speaker 5: were going to play hard, and like you talk about, uh,
- 30:19Speaker 5: they were going to finish plays and they they weren't
- 30:22Speaker 5: going to make a whole lot of mistakes. They they
- 30:25Speaker 5: weren't going to beat themselves. They were going to you.
- 30:27Speaker 5: You had to go out and you had to beat
- 30:29Speaker 5: the Denver Broncos. And playing them in Denver, well, that
- 30:33Speaker 5: crowd noise was, I mean just an unbelievable chore. How
- 30:37Speaker 5: close is this defensive football team to being that type
- 30:41Speaker 5: of unit where the opposing you know, teams are fearful
- 30:47Speaker 5: or apprehensive about playing against them.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Well, I think there's been slashes of them doing that
- 30:54Speaker 4: pretty consistently this year. And it starts with the pass rush.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Right now.
- 30:58Speaker 4: If you're an opposing quarter you know, particularly in Cincinnati's case,
- 31:02Speaker 4: one like Jake Browning, who is you know, filling in
- 31:05Speaker 4: for Joe Burrow there, I think probably is a healthy
- 31:07Speaker 4: fear about that pass rush and just how many different
- 31:10Speaker 4: ways you know they can beat you. Nick Bonito right now,
- 31:14Speaker 4: it was a second team All Pro last year he
- 31:16Speaker 4: was he kind of came out of nowhere to get that,
- 31:18Speaker 4: but he now looks like he has taken another level up.
- 31:21Speaker 4: He looks early in the season like one of the
- 31:23Speaker 4: league's very best pass rushers. He is incredible speed off
- 31:26Speaker 4: the edge, and then you just have so many other
- 31:28Speaker 4: really solid players, whether it's Zach Allen and John Franklin
- 31:31Speaker 4: Myers creating that that interior pressure. Jonathan Cooper I think
- 31:35Speaker 4: is one of the more underrated outside edge rushers in
- 31:38Speaker 4: this league. Then they even have a guy like Jonah
- 31:40Speaker 4: Ellis who's in his second season, who's, you know, come
- 31:43Speaker 4: off the bench and done a really good job. They've
- 31:45Speaker 4: they've done a really nice job with with those things
- 31:47Speaker 4: that The thing that they've struggled with quite a lot
- 31:50Speaker 4: actually is is covering running backs out of the backfield.
- 31:53Speaker 4: That's been a major achilles heel. In each of the
- 31:54Speaker 4: first three games, they have given up big plays in
- 31:57Speaker 4: the passing game to running backs who are either you know,
- 32:01Speaker 4: completely unaccounted for or who were able to just win
- 32:03Speaker 4: a one on one battle, and the result of those
- 32:06Speaker 4: plays has always led to scoring drives and in close
- 32:08Speaker 4: games that they've been in, you know that that's something
- 32:11Speaker 4: that they have they have to clean up there. There's
- 32:13Speaker 4: some detail oriented mistakes that I think I have kept
- 32:16Speaker 4: them from being, you know, kind of that that elite,
- 32:19Speaker 4: elite unit that they want to turn themselves into. I
- 32:21Speaker 4: think it's in there and it's possible for them, but
- 32:24Speaker 4: they still have a little waste to go in terms
- 32:26Speaker 4: of bringing it all together.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Nick Cosmidori is our guest. He covers the Broncos for
- 32:31Speaker 1: the Athletic Let's talk bow Nicks. We saw him late
- 32:33Speaker 1: in the regular season last year. Looked good, had a
- 32:36Speaker 1: really good rookie year. Looks like he's been so so,
- 32:39Speaker 1: at least statistically this year. Five touchdowns, three picks, passer
- 32:43Speaker 1: rating in the low eighties. How has bo Nicks performed?
- 32:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's probably a fair characterization. It's been
- 32:50Speaker 4: kind of so so, a little bit up and down.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Probably not ultimately the start to the season that he
- 32:56Speaker 4: wanted to have. And again, it kind of goes back to,
- 32:59Speaker 4: you know, the defensive side. It's not all just on uh,
- 33:02Speaker 4: it's not all just on what he's what he's not doing.
- 33:06Speaker 4: I think they've had a lot of offensive penalties that
- 33:09Speaker 4: have kind of slow drives. They've just had you know,
- 33:11Speaker 4: negative plays in really up inopportune times, and that's left
- 33:15Speaker 4: them in a lot of tough situations. Like, for example,
- 33:19Speaker 4: their average distance to gain on third down in Week
- 33:22Speaker 4: three against the Chargers was eleven yards. You're not gonna
- 33:25Speaker 4: you're not gonna get any kind of offensive rhythm going
- 33:27Speaker 4: when you're constantly staring at third and long. So that's
- 33:30Speaker 4: a thing that they have to really figure out a
- 33:32Speaker 4: way to to be ahead of the chains on first
- 33:35Speaker 4: and second down, to put themselves in more manageable third
- 33:38Speaker 4: down situations. Because he's a guy right now in his
- 33:40Speaker 4: career bo Nicks, who you know, he's not gonna he's
- 33:43Speaker 4: not gonna paper over all your problems. He can definitely
- 33:45Speaker 4: be part of a solution and part of creating, you know,
- 33:49Speaker 4: a really efficient offense. But but he is, he's not
- 33:52Speaker 4: and shouldn't be asked to be this kind of guy
- 33:56Speaker 4: that lifts all boats, and right now they just need
- 33:59Speaker 4: to do I think a better job around him so
- 34:01Speaker 4: that they're not in those situations where you know, opposing
- 34:05Speaker 4: teams can really kind of get to all their different
- 34:07Speaker 4: pressure looks and give him problems.
- 34:11Speaker 5: When they Broncos have had their biggest problems. What what
- 34:17Speaker 5: what type of offensive attack has been the toughest for
- 34:20Speaker 5: this Denver Bronco defense to handle?
- 34:23Speaker 1: What?
- 34:23Speaker 5: What type of personnel formations motion, you know, change the
- 34:29Speaker 5: strength or all that kind of thing. What what what
- 34:32Speaker 5: has been the biggest problem for the Denver Broncos to
- 34:35Speaker 5: try to solve.
- 34:37Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I think there's a couple of things.
- 34:40Speaker 4: They've they've been mostly good against the ground, but they've
- 34:43Speaker 4: had their lapses there. They gave up a sixty eight
- 34:46Speaker 4: yard run in the second half to Jonathan Taylor that
- 34:49Speaker 4: led to a scoring drive for the Colts. You know,
- 34:52Speaker 4: running backs just for whatever reason, whether they're coming out
- 34:55Speaker 4: of the backfield, whether they're you know taking you know,
- 34:58Speaker 4: whether they're being handed off the whether they're lined up
- 35:01Speaker 4: in the slot, they've just been able to create some problems.
- 35:04Speaker 4: And part of that is because the Broncos, you know,
- 35:06Speaker 4: they went out and signed Drake Greenlaw in free agency
- 35:08Speaker 4: thinking that he was going to be you know, part
- 35:11Speaker 4: of the solution for a middle of their defense that
- 35:14Speaker 4: struggled at times last year. He has not made his
- 35:16Speaker 4: Broncos debut. He's currently on IR with a quad injury.
- 35:20Speaker 4: You know, so certainly they want to get him healthy
- 35:22Speaker 4: and see what the defense looks like with him being
- 35:24Speaker 4: able to do that. But I would say that would
- 35:28Speaker 4: really be kind of the thing right now. Again, they
- 35:30Speaker 4: do a really good job rushing the passer. There's been
- 35:34Speaker 4: some discipline issues again that kind of the breakdowns that
- 35:36Speaker 4: have led to some of these easy passes to running
- 35:39Speaker 4: backs in the flat. You know that they've had some
- 35:41Speaker 4: some penalties that have extended drives that they could have
- 35:44Speaker 4: otherwise and did so. I think just kind of the
- 35:48Speaker 4: sharper focus on the details is what they really have
- 35:51Speaker 4: to be after as they welcome Cincinnati on Monday night.
- 35:54Speaker 1: We're chatting with Nick Cosmider from The Athletic. My final
- 35:57Speaker 1: question has to do with the injuries. You met Drake Greenlaw,
- 36:01Speaker 1: who's on IR. Broncos have seven guys on IR. Are
- 36:06Speaker 1: any of the other guys especially impactful or were these
- 36:09Speaker 1: guys that were not likely to play big roles?
- 36:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I think really when you look at it, green
- 36:15Speaker 4: Laws is probably the number one guy, and another inside
- 36:18Speaker 4: linebacker Drew Sanders, entering his third year with somebody. I
- 36:23Speaker 4: think they were really looking to kind of take a
- 36:25Speaker 4: next step. He's very athletic player and could give him
- 36:28Speaker 4: some of that sideline the sideline ability that they could
- 36:31Speaker 4: certainly use in a number of different sub packages. He
- 36:34Speaker 4: injured his foot in training camp, so he's not eligible
- 36:37Speaker 4: to come off i R until after this week. Don't know,
- 36:41Speaker 4: you know just how how quickly he will return. He's
- 36:43Speaker 4: a guy I'd say that they could certainly benefit from
- 36:46Speaker 4: having right now and then. And then another player who's
- 36:49Speaker 4: not on IR but miss last week would be Evan
- 36:51Speaker 4: Ingram again, the tight end that they signed this offseason
- 36:55Speaker 4: to give them more of a presence in the middle
- 36:58Speaker 4: of the field. That's that's one area where the Bronco
- 37:00Speaker 4: offensively have not got enough production in between the numbers,
- 37:04Speaker 4: and he's a guy that is supposed to bring that
- 37:07Speaker 4: through the first two games when he was available only
- 37:09Speaker 4: four catches for thirty three yards, and then, like I said,
- 37:12Speaker 4: miss the game against the Chargers. They need him healthy,
- 37:15Speaker 4: you know, as soon as possible. We of course have
- 37:17Speaker 4: not yet been out there this week. Well, we'll get
- 37:19Speaker 4: a better idea tomorrow as to whether Ingram is going
- 37:22Speaker 4: to be a guy who can contribute to them this week.
- 37:25Speaker 5: The one thing that I remember about Denver as a
- 37:28Speaker 5: former player when I in the seventies and eighties playing
- 37:31Speaker 5: with the Bengals when he traveled out there again was
- 37:34Speaker 5: the crowd noise. I mean, it was ridiculous, loudest outdoor
- 37:39Speaker 5: stadium I've ever been to. Couldn't hear yourself think. I
- 37:43Speaker 5: mean when you get on the bus after the game
- 37:45Speaker 5: and after you clean yourself up. He had a headache.
- 37:48Speaker 5: I mean, it was. It was a brutal experience, it
- 37:51Speaker 5: really was. Has it been like that for the opposition
- 37:55Speaker 5: teams coming to Denver so far this season?
- 37:59Speaker 4: Yeah? I would say that the the op the energy
- 38:01Speaker 4: and the opener against the Titans that was probably, you know,
- 38:06Speaker 4: like probably the best like season opening crowd that that
- 38:08Speaker 4: I've seen here in quite a long time. I Mean,
- 38:11Speaker 4: this Broncos team entered this season with with a lot
- 38:13Speaker 4: of expectations. Sean Payton has not been afraid to say
- 38:16Speaker 4: that he thinks this is a team that can compete
- 38:19Speaker 4: for the Super Bowl, so so certainly, having lost these
- 38:22Speaker 4: last two games in kind of excruciating fashion. You know,
- 38:25Speaker 4: the fan base is a little bit antsy right now,
- 38:27Speaker 4: but I would say there's no doubt that, especially in
- 38:30Speaker 4: a primetime situation on a on a Monday night, that
- 38:33Speaker 4: the crowd is definitely going to be a factor, and
- 38:36Speaker 4: I think they're going to believe that they can that
- 38:38Speaker 4: they can impact the game. Again for a guy who
- 38:41Speaker 4: obviously Browning's got experience, but it is the backup and
- 38:44Speaker 4: having to go against that defense in that scenario that
- 38:48Speaker 4: that's obviously one area where the Broncos hope that they
- 38:50Speaker 4: can have an advantage. But I'm excited to see it.
- 38:53Speaker 4: I'm I'm bumm that we don't necessarily get the same
- 38:55Speaker 4: you know, complexion that we got for that great game
- 38:58Speaker 4: in Cincinnati back in December, but you never know, Monday
- 39:02Speaker 4: nights things get weird. So I'm really eager to see
- 39:04Speaker 4: how it all shakes out.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Roncos have a six game home winning streak and have
- 39:09Speaker 1: won those games by an average of nineteen point eight points.
