0:05
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, welcome into the M&P podcast.
0:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Conor 4 is on vacation this week, and so we're a little low on Notre Dame guys, so I thought I'd bring in one.
0:14
[SPEAKER_00]: I know, I'm pretty, I'm telling you, he's gonna feel bad about missing this episode, because you're gonna be a part of it.
0:19
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big fan of yours, but the next voice you'll hear is Brady Quinn's.
0:25
[SPEAKER_00]: former Notre Dame quarterback, longtime NFL quarterback, former first round pick.
0:30
[SPEAKER_00]: One of the co-hosts of Big New Kickoff on Fox during the season also does NFL games for Fox.
0:36
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's also one of the co-hosts of two pros in a couple of Joe show that I'm on every Thursday morning.
0:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Good to have you on, Brady.
0:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for having me, Albert.
0:47
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, I'm a son and Connor, hopefully we can connect another time, but I'm just glad I get to see you and we've got a digital connection, not a cell phone connection, because usually that planes are Thursday, morning interviews with you.
0:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I, well, Brady's referencing for people who do listen is that I had some cell phone issues for a while there.
1:06
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I've cleaned them up.
1:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think I'm doing a lot better than I was there was one point where I think there was actually a Twitter account for my cell phone that was not for me.
1:15
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, yeah, so the idea of having ready to hear I always love getting Brady's insight on quarterback's A he played the position so obviously that's a huge part of it having played it the major college and pro levels, but also you know, I think Brady's got a really good
1:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Feel for where the position is where the position's going because he is involved at both levels of the game So, you know, obviously, you know his his job at Fox Traveling around to different campuses and not just getting to watch these guys play But also getting to meet a lot of these guys in person and then you know He has the analyst job at Fox which gives a chant gives him a chance to see the game at the pro level so
1:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Brady what we want to do here with you is we want to go through and I thought this would be a good time to do it This sort of turning point now with the quarterbacks going to the pros so I want to I want to hit on the The twenty twenty five quarterbacks That's just got drafted and then look or twenty twenty six quarterbacks.
2:17
[SPEAKER_00]: It just got drafted and then look forward To twenty twenty seven and what I think a lot of people are expecting is going to be a really good class We'll get to whether it's whether it will be or not, but
2:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, let's start here.
2:30
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, do you agree with the notion that this wasn't a really a very good draft class for for for the position in 2020 six?
2:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think when you when you compare it to the amount of talent or potential talent at quarterback in next year's draft, I think it pales into comparison in that regard.
2:49
[SPEAKER_01]: However, I kind of hate that notion because
2:53
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, these guys are still running their story.
2:56
[SPEAKER_01]: We have no idea what that path, what their career is going to look like.
3:00
[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't like this.
3:02
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going down that road.
3:03
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just say, I don't know that you had as a great of a supply of guys that you feel like can walk in and be day one starters.
3:11
[SPEAKER_01]: as compared to next year.
3:14
[SPEAKER_01]: I understand critics are going to say, well, hey, weren't we saying that before this past season and college football?
3:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we had a lot of guys who decided to come back or a lot of guys who didn't have the season they wanted to.
3:25
[SPEAKER_01]: That's fair, but I would also say that if some of those guys would have come out.
3:31
[SPEAKER_01]: they, in my opinion, amongst the two that got taken in the first round, would have been in that conversation.
3:38
[SPEAKER_01]: And so we could kind of get into it from there, but I think it's fair to say that there is not as large of a supplier pool of quarterbacks, but even by the sheer amount of drafts or draft picks that were made for the entirety of the draft, but also particularly on the first round.
3:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's start with the number and overall pick thing because you have a chance to be around a bunch, right?
3:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, because you guys for big noon were around Indiana.
3:59
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm assuming you got a chance to know them a little bit.
4:03
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that there's any question, you know, Fernando Fernando Fernandosa's now got his place in college football history.
4:10
[SPEAKER_00]: Highsman winner did something at Indiana down.
4:13
[SPEAKER_00]: Think anybody ever thought was possible at that school when winning a national championship there.
4:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess where I want to start with you, it's just some historical context because he goes first over all here.
4:24
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there was the feeling like, yeah, he's a really good prospect, but
4:29
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's not the type of quarterback who would have gone number one in every draft.
4:35
[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess just from a top line perspective, how do you view him as a quarterback prospect going into the NFL?
4:41
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'd love everything about him.
4:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it is single season in Indiana.
4:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I think you showed the nation what he's capable of.
4:47
[SPEAKER_01]: What's interesting to me is when I went back to prepare for this past season and watch some of his cow tape, he was a tough kid and accurate pastor.
4:55
[SPEAKER_01]: He had a sense and fuel for the timing and rhythm of plays.
4:59
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think sometimes when you play on a team, that doesn't have as many talented guys you're throwing to, like an Omar Cooper for example, like, yet in Indiana,
5:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Oftentimes you see those tighter window throws where you see some of the the thoughts that he had and as far as what he was trying to do in the passing game and it doesn't always Then you kind of have to project a little bit you know watching him I was like okay and and we don't you know we don't get a ton of exposure on the west coast for a pre game show But but just kind of combing through and some of the games was like okay like I can see why Frank signetti you know or suit a cursed signetti
5:34
[SPEAKER_01]: something it was brother, why he really liked him because there was the sense of grittiness toughness command and you could you could see that in the way in which he played a cow.
5:44
[SPEAKER_01]: What I didn't know was that he was going to be as poised and as tough.
5:49
[SPEAKER_01]: in the big moments.
5:50
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whether it's the big 10 championship game, we're got knocked right to start the game and it comes away with a huge throw down the stress in the fourth quarter, it got sealed the game.
5:59
[SPEAKER_01]: Or any of the games you're coming to talk about, talk about the course, the playoffs, or even the drive at Penn State, you know, regardless of the season that Penn State had, look how many guys got drafted from that team from that defense, a so talented team.
6:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Just those moments, like he just,
6:14
[SPEAKER_01]: He had the sense of kind of clutch savvy confidence about him that it's hard to see that when you're at cow.
6:21
[SPEAKER_01]: And once you see him be able to accomplish that in the end, it gives you hope and a reason for optimism of why he can then try to turn the tide for everything in Las Vegas.
6:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Mike biggest concern with what he's going to be asked to do is couldn't Kubiax offense is drastically different than what he was asked to do at the end of the year.
6:38
[SPEAKER_01]: At least to my opinion.
6:39
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
6:39
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously, that a great defense that has sold running game, there's a fair amount of RPO's.
6:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And when you watch his tape, compare to guys like Ty Simpson, compare to a guy like Dante Bohr who was draft eligible, but decided to come back.
6:54
[SPEAKER_01]: You just didn't see quite as many layered throws, like you kind of have to do with the NFL level.
7:00
[SPEAKER_01]: You saw, you know, not as many times he was getting through progressions as maybe a tie Simpson was who really carried that Alabama offense.
7:09
[SPEAKER_01]: I actually thought those two are much closer as far as prospects than maybe some people gave them credit just purely because the resume that Mendoza had.
7:18
[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, you could see why he went number one overall because he checks every single box that you could ask for in a quarterback.
7:26
[SPEAKER_01]: which like I mean what you're talking about like you're not blaming him right for stuff he's not asked to do um well and I I would go step further like this gets us into like the Brockford conversation with people like oh he's a game manager it's like well he's one hell of a game manager because he he seems to be able to manage that game with a lot of football games and be able to put up the stats and do it as team needs it to do
7:51
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when when people throw on on that tag game manager, I always look at it and say, full, all right, like, that's a pretty solid compliment for a guy who just won the highest of the job, but they're going to be in the game, right?
8:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like, like, isn't that the point, it's like, hey, that point you're in basketball managers, the game, well, it's like, all right, like, that's what he's supposed to do.
8:07
[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, it's weird how it's got a negative connotation to it.
8:11
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but like, you know, you're saying like so like there's this stuff he wasn't asked to do and I like you hear a lot about how like RPO heavy Indiana's offense is he's playing from the shock on a lot, you know, how big an adjustment is that for a quarterback like where, you know, you don't know that they can't do it, but they don't have the reps having done it and obviously at the NFL level, they're going to have to be adjusting to do these new things with the game moving like a really, really high speed.
8:42
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
8:42
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's as simple as things like taking a snap from under center.
8:46
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, a lot of people take that sort of stuff from granted, but when when you have traditionally primarily been in shotgun, you have to retrain yourself.
8:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's what ultimately it is.
8:56
[SPEAKER_01]: It's as a quarterback, you have a protocol.
8:58
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a checklist like you're a pilot, you're a pilot, you're a fighter pilot and you're going through this checklist of things, you know, pre-snap, etc.
9:05
[SPEAKER_01]: But, but you don't want to be thinking what's you get under centered, but the reality is, if you don't have those thousands and thousands of reps,
9:12
[SPEAKER_01]: to train you to not look down.
9:14
[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the first things that guys tend to do when they don't have experience when they're setter.
9:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll never forgive my rookie season.
9:20
[SPEAKER_01]: It's week 17.
9:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I got a little bit of burn time.
9:23
[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember Chris Winkie, we're playing San Francisco 49ers, and this game always stood out to me because I was a huge, bright young fan.
9:31
[SPEAKER_01]: It's his last game was a 49er.
9:32
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a legend, a Notre Dame, San Francisco played forever.
9:36
[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember what I got in.
9:37
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you'd never seen a guy that old giving that sort of effort.
9:41
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, honestly, reminds me a little bit of what Clay is Campbell's doing right now.
9:44
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
9:44
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, awesome about it.
9:45
[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, I'll never forget telling our defense.
9:50
[SPEAKER_01]: He's giving you a key.
9:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Every time Winky would take a snack, he'd look down.
9:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And then remember once his head goes down, look forward, like the ball's coming.
10:00
[SPEAKER_01]: So those are little things that like, even at the professional level, people take for granted, like it changes everything with your mechanics.
10:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, in shock and you're already back, five yards.
10:10
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, your eyes drop down for a second, you get it back on the defense and then you get back into the rhythm of the play, but for quarterbacks from your inner center, you got to get back, I mean, you're as close as you can be to those guys, who want to tear your face off.
10:23
[SPEAKER_01]: So the three five steps, seven steps training that training the depth of that training the timing of that, you know, there's some guys who when you're out there throwing routes to them.
10:31
[SPEAKER_01]: If it's a five-plant throw like that five steps might be shorter because he's so fast, there's other guys where they take a little longer strides, they tend to be a little slower on the cut.
10:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So you have to know your personnel as well.
10:42
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just very nuanced as far as how you go about preparing and that's not even including that he's probably going to be running a different offense that's like learning a new language.
10:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he's play action a lot too in that offense, right?
10:53
[SPEAKER_00]: So like your back's going to be the ball.
10:54
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like the as a young player, the kind of shock factor of when the ball snapped, I'm looking at one thing.
11:02
[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next time I look at the defense, it could be something else, right?
11:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, which happens a lot in a tell.
11:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's one of the big things that when you look at and you talk about the success of a quarterback and people are always like, well,
11:15
[SPEAKER_01]: as you put the scheme or system, it's like, well, hopefully now, I think we're seeing more examples of this offensive mind and head coaches in particular too, working with their quarterback to do the things that he does well.
11:26
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's trying to just say, I need you to drop like this, read like this, throw like this, do everything the way we do in our system.
11:33
[SPEAKER_01]: like that very rarely works out because it you need time to develop into that and if you don't get those thousands of reps, it's usually never works out because the guy gets thrust it into the before he's ready.
11:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Fortunately for Fernando is he's got for cousins there.
11:47
[SPEAKER_01]: If they want to start cousins, if they feel like that's what makes the most sense, they don't have to rush him in, but I do feel like it's hard to think that a number one overall picks not going to play at some point this season, especially if they don't get off to a good start.
11:59
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the hard part about trying to just fit him into whatever the system is.
12:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, Clint Kubia can do some of the things that maybe he's either sees a practice that he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he
12:15
[SPEAKER_01]: What you're asking to do, I mean, finding concepts that he feels comfortable seeing, reading, you know, throwing, those are all things that you'd like to do with the rookie quarterback.
12:24
[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, look, football is always football, you just call it something a little bit different.
12:28
[SPEAKER_01]: The biggest difference in what I'm making a big deal about the RAPO is you can't have as wide of an array of RAPOs in the NFL, like you don't college.
12:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
12:38
[SPEAKER_01]: The three yards down field in college versus one yard in the NFL, it changes everything.
12:42
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, whether you're under center, which you can always have kind of a pass option off that on a run play, but even back in shotgun, everything tends to be either on like short yardage or go line or ask the wide, because then your offensive line can run, you know, horizontal, and it sells that a little bit better or actually because you're blocking the run, you're actually blocking your normal technique, you can still run and still make a throw off that, but it's really hard to sell some of the other things.
13:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Like we would differentiate by saying,
13:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, play action, you'd have guys who would maybe come out of whatever their response ability was on play fake, you know, four blitzers for the protection or something else.
13:21
[SPEAKER_01]: If it's run action, your protection as a quarterback is the fake.
13:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's selling out on the run, and then while I'm in no not to go down field past the yard, but on the run action, it should look just like a run.
13:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, different than college football, where that is a run.
13:38
[SPEAKER_01]: And you're running off someone who's going to trigger or not.
13:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's just, it's, it's very nuanced.
13:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, much more different people realize that's crazy.
13:45
[SPEAKER_00]: The rules like me, that big a difference.
13:47
[SPEAKER_00]: So I hadn't even thought about that.
13:48
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, yeah, that's interesting.
13:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, would you play him?
13:53
[SPEAKER_01]: I would play him.
13:55
[SPEAKER_01]: Now again, I'm, I'm of, I'm of the opinion that, for members of you, that.
14:01
[SPEAKER_01]: I sat, but I also feel like I wish I would have gotten more chances to just play and to learn and go through those growing pains.
14:09
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we tend to be somewhat more patient.
14:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, looking at Carolina Panthers right now with Bryce Young, the pick of the fit hit his fit, your option.
14:16
[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at where he was, you're one.
14:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And now you're three, it's drastically different, and he got better and better and better to the point where they're like, yeah, he earned that.
14:27
[SPEAKER_01]: But he earned us picking up his fifth year option.
14:29
[SPEAKER_01]: He's played enough now where we've seen the improvement our teams improved, and you're seeing a better version of him.
14:35
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just, I'm a huge believer in that there's no substitute for quarterback experience.
14:40
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's one of the reasons why two of us a little higher on Fernando than than Ty Simpson, because obviously he played more of the college love one anyway.
14:46
[SPEAKER_01]: But I do feel like if your plan is to and I think it'll be mentally prepared I think we'll know how to protect himself because that's part of it too, right?
14:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's a man's game and these guys are coming out there with violent intentions and even with the protections we have now for the quarterback you can get yourself hurt The only thing I'd say Where I'd be a little bit hesitant is if I feel like he's struggling a bit
15:10
[SPEAKER_01]: I do have a guy that would be great to learn from.
15:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I do have a guy in Kurt Cousins who is one of the best probably ever to learn from.
15:16
[SPEAKER_01]: It regards to his preparation, how pragmatic he is, the career he's had, like, it's not the worst thing in the world to let him take those first four or five games.
15:26
[SPEAKER_01]: And even see how he goes about preparing for it.
15:29
[SPEAKER_01]: right like because Kirk's not I mean he's he's just his own his own his own guy with that and out and and be helpful I think for any rookie in quarterback to watch that and say okay this is how he does it maybe I treated a little bit but this is equated to a guy making over what three hundred million dollars when our cousins has done his career right so I'm sure it's easy to follow suit and that and and and they have that not like like we can't afford play last year they really didn't have to be the parent to help him out in that situation they're playing them right from day one
15:56
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's like a point, like sometimes people, I don't know, like, people don't wrap their heads around.
16:03
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, it's also important what's in the quarterback room, right?
16:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, who's in there with them?
16:08
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's like Josh McCown.
16:10
[SPEAKER_00]: I know, like, probably made 30 or 40 million dollars being the other guy, because he was so good.
16:16
[SPEAKER_00]: He was such a good guy to have your young quarterback around.
16:19
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's probably something that like another player, like a Kurt, can give you that a coach can't, right?
16:26
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, well, and the coaches are limited in how much time they can spell with you, right?
16:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Because they're game planning, they're breaking down film, they're doing other things.
16:34
[SPEAKER_01]: They're typically in an offensive staff, you know, you're designated with some sort of situational install.
16:40
[SPEAKER_01]: You get there the more things on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, how are they scheduled out the week?
16:44
[SPEAKER_01]: Your quarterback coach is going to be progress,
16:49
[SPEAKER_01]: right and you're gonna have other coaches who are up there presenting typically talking about the scheme that you're going up against talking about the personnel you're going up against and say hey we like these plays versus these sorts of concepts.
16:59
[SPEAKER_01]: We ran this the last time we played against some divisional opponent.
17:01
[SPEAKER_01]: We're running it different this way over this time we're gonna package it or this is the person that we're going to use.
17:06
[SPEAKER_01]: They're busy tied down with that.
17:08
[SPEAKER_01]: I know things have gotten more efficient as far as how they can break down film, but that doesn't mean they're not, you know, burning the candle above ends.
17:15
[SPEAKER_01]: So having that veteran and even if he's a starter or a third screen, having that guy in there to spend time and cut through stuff or even say, how about this, let's go take 45 minutes and watch patch mulls.
17:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go take 45 minutes watch Matthew Stafford.
17:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go watch Josh Allen.
17:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Go watch Lamar Jackson.
17:32
[SPEAKER_01]: There's those moments where they're going to pick out things that they see, those teams doing either scheme-wise or the quarterback stalling and saying, hey, why don't you two stay on our off-day, which is never off for quarterbacks?
17:44
[SPEAKER_01]: Why don't we go and work on this in the indoor?
17:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's no limit of time in the CBA that you can spend with your quarter, you're like, another quarterback.
17:52
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's where they become a valuable.
17:53
[SPEAKER_00]: for sure, um, how good do you think he can be?
17:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and, and do you think, like, I, one thing, you know, is interesting.
18:00
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought I know a quarterback's coach about this a couple of weeks ago, and he said like what he sees with Fernando is like such great discipline with his footwork, right?
18:08
[SPEAKER_00]: And such great, like you can tell,
18:11
[SPEAKER_00]: like this quarterback's coach said to me like you can tell how hard he works in just how detailed the way he plays is and you can see the detail on his footwork and his delivery and his eyes you can see you can see a lot of detail on his play and the point this coach was making to me was he's going to be a really good fit for Clint because that offense requires detail right like you you have your feet have to be tied to your eyes and you have to be and everything has to be
18:39
[SPEAKER_00]: And that, even though Fernando is not doing what, like, it wasn't doing what they're going to ask him to do and cleanse offense.
18:46
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's like the sort of, like, toolbox, right, that you need to fly in that offense.
18:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think it's about the, and where do you think the ceiling is?
18:55
[SPEAKER_01]: I do think it's a good fit and I think not just from Clint Stamp one, but from having Tom Brady as a woman partner, right?
19:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's having him as being around and you look at the fireiness, you're looking how focused he is.
19:06
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I still think the thing that people tend to miss about Tom Brady, it's not like he had the arm of some of these guys or athleticism of some of the guys, to me was his ability to sacrifice.
19:17
[SPEAKER_01]: and focus.
19:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Like his entire life was devoted to being the greatest of all time at the quarterback position.
19:23
[SPEAKER_01]: And he sacrificed, it wasn't just during the season, it was the offseason, it was his lifestyle.
19:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he literally turned that into TV 12 a brand, but like that's to me is what I think for an end of relates so well, right?
19:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Like you hear some of the stories about him and, you know, some people probably are like he doesn't seem relatable.
19:38
[SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.
19:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Because, you know, it probably wasn't relatable for other people when, you know, Tom Brady was eating avocado ice cream or whatever else he was doing right and we're not taking a day off like that's not relatable either so I think he's a perfect pairing for the scheme, the coaching staff, honestly with cousins, like I think those two are going to get along extremely well, which is important, but also with Tom Brady with the guy who's, you know, got an invest in interest in this.
20:03
[SPEAKER_01]: and understands how to, you know, probably get him doubt into how he needs to operate, both on off the field and conduct himself and prepare him.
20:11
[SPEAKER_01]: So when you ask me like, what can be, well, I don't know, it's time for you as a six final pick.
20:16
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know that for random and those, he's not definitely not worse than athlete, he's probably better athlete.
20:21
[SPEAKER_01]: I'd say he's got all the same tools and tension.
20:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Bigger.
20:24
[SPEAKER_01]: He's bigger.
20:25
[SPEAKER_01]: He probably is a little faster.
20:27
[SPEAKER_01]: My guess would be that again, now he might be more reliant on what's around him within the organization, right?
20:35
[SPEAKER_01]: And when you look at New England's run, there are some things that work for them, you know, that a great defense when Tom Brady first got there.
20:41
[SPEAKER_01]: They had a coaching staff and had all these head coaches that left from there.
20:45
[SPEAKER_01]: you know, we gave CS division, which kind of helped put them in the position to always be able to do what they did, but you know, the reality is, you know, some help there, too.
20:53
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think if the Raiders can turn this thing around and give him more help, yeah, I don't think there's any limit on what he can become.
21:01
[SPEAKER_01]: He turned around the forced, you know, one of the worst universities or football programs in the history.
21:09
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the greatest turnaround sports of life, and so why would you want to put a cap on what he can do for the
21:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, last thing on him like I just think it's like a fascinating case Do you have any story or anecdote or something from from you and the crew getting to spend time around him during the year that kind of sums up who he is?
21:31
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know I probably have more about coach Signetti because I'd sat down a lot more with him Probably I've sat down a lot more with him than Fernando okay
21:45
[SPEAKER_00]: So do you think Hertz program is going to prepare like that was the other thing that came up is like
21:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody said to me like another coach has said to me he's like I don't know Kurt, but I know Nick and I know anybody who comes from Nick's program if you go through that program and he heard Kurt's program was similar, like you're going to be ready for the NFL.
22:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Would you agree with that?
22:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
22:06
[SPEAKER_01]: What's out of doubt?
22:07
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're they're so doubt and laser focused and I'll still never forget the big completion.
22:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it was a becker on the, which I, and I know you know which one I'm talking about down the right side line.
22:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
22:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
22:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
22:22
[SPEAKER_01]: So one of my old teammates have to be the D-line coach there, and yeah, I was excited for him, you know, he's he's one of those like one of the greatest teammates ever he I'm sure he's pouring into the you know, D-line there in Indiana and I kind of I look over to give him a look and he's, you know, he's excited he's you know, they're all getting going and then I look a little bit further down the side line I see significant kind of look back.
22:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of scanned the sideline and I just see him turn his head and say something into the lake and all of a sudden everyone right back to what they're doing Like they were sort of dying back in because Ohio State was gonna have a chance to get the ball again Yeah, and so it was like end-of-game scenarios like everyone went back and like it was like a never- It was good taking the years.
23:03
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but they were still game left.
23:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:05
[SPEAKER_01]: There was Game Lab, but I'm going to say it again, but they wiped their memory.
23:08
[SPEAKER_01]: It was like it never happened and they all went right back to what they're doing.
23:11
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, it was pretty ridiculously awesome to see the control that he had.
23:17
[SPEAKER_01]: And so yes, I feel like he'll be prepared for what's next.
23:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that's awesome.
23:22
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
23:22
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I don't think there's any question, Ty Simpson's going to a good place, right?
23:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think going and getting to play for Sean McVay, there are a bunch of X quarterbacks on that staff and, you know, Dave Regone and Nietzsche, Nate Sheelhaas and, uh, you know, and, and Cliff Kingsbury, um,
23:40
[SPEAKER_00]: You said that Simpson was close to Mendoza for you and I think like most people look at Simpson physically and like they say, like, okay, like who do I compare this guy to?
23:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And what's the path for him to be a successful and a full quarterback?
23:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Why why was Simpson close for you as a quarterback prospect to Mendoza?
24:01
[SPEAKER_01]: And just as natural ability to rip the ball, I mean, you saw a lot of, you know, tight throws in a tough win those and kind of carrying that team like not always being in the best circumstances and third and seven plus a lot or, you know, down in games, I mean, that defense wasn't what it was in an excitement.
24:18
[SPEAKER_01]: He had to kind of bring his team back to one more point.
24:22
[SPEAKER_01]: It was just, it was very different.
24:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, almost, I can also, or it's just like, for Nanda it was leading at times a, you know, like a Nick Seiman S. Alabama team in Indiana.
24:32
[SPEAKER_01]: And then on the flip side, like Ty Simps was leading like something else.
24:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you wouldn't just, like, like, you're like, this isn't the normal Alabama football or, you know, a custom of saying.
24:42
[SPEAKER_01]: But it was just the talent growing.
24:45
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I thought,
24:46
[SPEAKER_01]: He kind of came out in a number of games and just made kind of some big-time throws.
24:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, look, at times he was forcing some footballs into some bad spots.
24:56
[SPEAKER_01]: When I look at that, I also say to myself, we kind of has to.
24:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Like he can't rely on consistent running gear.
25:00
[SPEAKER_01]: The running back position was banged up all year.
25:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing was really consistent for them.
25:05
[SPEAKER_01]: So I can also understand his plan and position where, like at the end of the game, what do you want the guy to do?
25:10
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to try to take a chance and throw into a, like, like, body wanted to do right.
25:14
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's part of the job to, uh, but like, look, he's not the biggest guy, uh, but that also won't prevent it in this day and age of the NFL, the way they're protected, the offense is playing more in shock on being more, bit more spread out.
25:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And, and also, you know, Sean McVen and I am a believe that Sean McVen was a part of that decision wasn't just less seen.
25:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's got they've got a plan.
25:37
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the way anybody who thinks Sean McFay that wasn't Sean McFay his decision has no clue how the ran Right, but anyway, but I thought the same thing and by the way, I kind of guy I have like a bad day, you know Like that's yeah as you build out your personal life more.
25:51
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like there's times when you know
25:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a crying kid who just, you know, crap, there was diaper.
25:57
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm changing this, you know, whatever, this crib.
26:00
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, and five minutes later, I got a thing I'm ready to.
26:03
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's okay, we're gonna have bad days.
26:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Sean's in the tall grass on that too.
26:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Like his kids are like both under four, under three.
26:09
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
26:10
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
26:11
[SPEAKER_00]: And so there's a point, things like that.
26:12
[SPEAKER_00]: I've been there, we're like, we're sort of out of the woods now, but there's a million things that can go.
26:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, I'll send looked at that man and I was like, I know exactly what happened.
26:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're actively keeping yourself in the woods.
26:25
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what's happening.
26:26
[SPEAKER_00]: No, we're done now.
26:27
[SPEAKER_01]: We're done now.
26:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Although we are getting a puppy like this Friday, so they were only adding to the mix.
26:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, no, look, I think.
26:35
[SPEAKER_01]: There are cost for concerns, the lack of experience, there's cost for concern.
26:39
[SPEAKER_01]: I think with some of the decision-making that you saw a little bit on film, but very similar, I think he's pretty polished.
26:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And it mechanically, when I saw the most part of this full work, so I like how he'll be able to translate.
26:52
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the biggest thing for him is, if you're worried about any of the development, he's not going to be pressed to play.
26:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, not only was it not the number all the world.
26:59
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, if you've got the rating MVP as your quarterback.
27:02
[SPEAKER_01]: So this plan can go on for a year or two.
27:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's more similar what we've seen with the Green Bay Packers.
27:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And so I love that forum.
27:09
[SPEAKER_01]: And I love the fact that traffic veins always going to put them in a position to succeed and prove that, you know, he could be the guy until he does, you know, there's not any organizations that do that.
27:19
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to look at like a positive and negative here.
27:21
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like two things that I think are part of like his reputation coming out, right?
27:26
[SPEAKER_00]: And we can look at the positive first.
27:28
[SPEAKER_00]: One thing I heard like a lot of was that there's just a lot on them.
27:31
[SPEAKER_00]: And part of it was like the supporting cast, right?
27:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said the running game is not existing.
27:37
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I even heard that, you know, midway through the year they play Oklahoma, Brent Venables, you know, flew something open in their protection and like it created like like a lot of free runners and like so he's dealing with that and from the guys who study and they say he was responsible for redirecting protections.
27:57
[SPEAKER_00]: You can tell he was going to the line with multiple plays and a lot of cases so he had to check.
28:04
[SPEAKER_00]: how much do you look at that like so you know I was thinking about Justin Fields back the day right like and I I thought he was a really good quarterback prospect being somebody doesn't really know what they're doing know what they're they're looking at as far as actually studying these guys as prospects right and somebody pointed out to me like well how often this is first read not there looks great you know but like he's throwing to Chris O'Lave and
28:26
[SPEAKER_00]: and Garrett Wilson and Jackson Smith and Jigba.
28:30
[SPEAKER_00]: And so like a lot of times like the play is going to run as it was designed.
28:35
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, James and William's was there.
28:39
[SPEAKER_00]: this feels to me like kind of like the reverse of that where a lot of things that could go wrong for Alabama did go wrong and so you got to see him handle that.
28:50
[SPEAKER_00]: How big of a plus is that?
28:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Like in that like a lot of these guys now are coming for even like Mendoza and you mentioned you saw some stuff on on on a caltate that was really good which is important
29:00
[SPEAKER_00]: But this last year, he was thrown into three NFL receivers, right, Cooper Sirot and Becker.
29:06
[SPEAKER_00]: How big is it in the sims, like in evaluating sims and that you did get to see kind of all hell breaking loose, you know, and like seeing how he had to handle it when there was a lot on his shoulders and taking into account how much there was on his shoulders for them to win games.
29:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think from just looking at it from a sheer, if we're going to draft you, this is the situation you're probably going to enter into in the NFL.
29:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, it's giving you a pretty good idea of what that may look like.
29:35
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't, again, I don't think we ever think about that with Alabama, but that's a little bit of the position you was in at times.
29:41
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, there was still a playoff team, so it'll get me wrong.
29:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, that could be up for debate, but I would say it gave you a little bit of a window as far as how you're going to handle adversity.
29:49
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I think the tough thing is, as you only saw one year,
29:51
[SPEAKER_01]: And so you'd like to be able to see him stack those years and progress over time, and that's where I kind of go back to Fernando and Cal, you know, you saw where he was then, and even some of the decisions, some of the mechanical stuff, and he got better and better, even as a season war on in Indiana, I remember watching back the tape, the old demanding game, because I was like, damn, first off they went down early, second, you know, I just want to see what he looked like.
30:15
[SPEAKER_01]: It really started to quick obviously in a big way that the game for sale annoying and it just built from there where you just kept gaining confidence and gaining confidence.
30:24
[SPEAKER_01]: And for Ty Simpsons anyway, one crack at it.
30:25
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think by the end of the season keeps getting to a point where you start to see him again, feel more confident, comfortable.
30:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes though when you're carrying everything,
30:34
[SPEAKER_01]: that confidence leads to you throwing some balls that you're overconfident.
30:37
[SPEAKER_01]: And so there'll be a learning curve for him.
30:40
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no doubt, but I think he's a bit battle tested.
30:43
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he was asked to do so many things within that offense that he will be able and willing to handle the challenge of what Sonic Bay is gonna ask him to do.
30:53
[SPEAKER_01]: So I have no concerns about him.
30:56
[SPEAKER_01]: My biggest concern is when he gets to get out there because he doesn't have a ton of starting experience.
31:04
[SPEAKER_01]: To me of anything and then you know, is this going to be a franchise that doesn't give them a lot of you know room to make mistakes because They're always in the mix.
31:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you don't have really step back years with daily ramps and that's what they expect and that's what the fans expect So it's a little different don't you go number one over all lots of biggest Raiders and you know They obviously have had their struggles like they they're hoping for a build up.
31:28
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're looking for what kind of care a lot has done honestly not You know for first
31:33
[SPEAKER_01]: For the Rams, it's like, hey, we just, we got the Randy and the P were hoping you could get to that level pretty quick.
31:37
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we're doing a patchy trail and it's just go.
31:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
31:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like, like, like, trail lands, you know, right?
31:43
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no.
31:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And that was, again, the expectation, like, grandpa got us to see a bull.
31:48
[SPEAKER_01]: You're the guy in chance system where everyone has success.
31:51
[SPEAKER_01]: You're not having success.
31:52
[SPEAKER_01]: We got to find the next guy.
31:53
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the hardest.
31:55
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have experience.
31:56
[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's like, well, you got to jump right in and be able to make it work.
31:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so like you've referenced this a few times then how do you view the like volume starts thing because I know like some people have the golden rules 25 right and like Brock Perti had I brought Perti had a my camera was like in the 40s right like that was considered a big part of why he was so successful some of these guys now I mean bone next I think had 60
32:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I think I know why that's important because it's kind of like the cat mouse game they build a book on you You got a react and they see how you react when they make you play against your weakness is that sort of thing Like how important do you think the volume of playing time is for a quarterback coming into the NFL and can it be what things are swims a guy or sinks
32:58
[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm probably the most important thing.
33:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, it is an experience.
33:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Because again, you get a sense for getting to know who they are, right?
33:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just make a dating analogy about this.
33:08
[SPEAKER_01]: You're a team trying to figure out a guy, you only saw him for a little bit, you only had the honeymoon phase, and that could be a great season, can be bad.
33:15
[SPEAKER_01]: There's all different things.
33:16
[SPEAKER_01]: It's nice to be able to see what a guy looks like, even when you're starting to the second year starting, did he progress, did he improve?
33:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's statistically mechanically, whatever is that you're looking for.
33:27
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, did he have the adapt to change, maybe it's a new offensive coordinator, there's a lot of things that, you know, you can dive into and say, okay, he's prepared for this or they put more on his play.
33:37
[SPEAKER_01]: You could see he's doing more of the line of scrimmage.
33:40
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I look at it and just say like, yeah, experiences, I'm the most important thing.
33:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, maybe to say, you know, for the NFL standards talent, like you've got to be in my opinion extraordinary at something in order to be able to make it.
33:54
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like the guys who are like kind of really good at everything, that'd be on a pretty good teams and situation circumstance, but if you've got that extraordinary thing that you can do or that you've got in your arsenal, that's where like your special knowing it's stopped you and people are just going to, you know, cater towards that.
34:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I think to me it's that's the tough thing about Ty Simpson.
34:16
[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably why he was, you know, he was being my opinion as the second quarterback this draft class.
34:21
[SPEAKER_01]: But again, there's some draw town out there.
34:23
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of other things that you like about it.
34:25
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just you didn't see a lot of it.
34:27
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, like I'm sure like you, like anyone else out there, you'd like to have more time with that person before you deciding to marry to a first-year life and I think it's like
34:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like the Sam for at least two, three years as body of work before you said, you like, yeah, that's going to be our guy.
34:48
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you buy like the Brock party comp like I don't I don't know it just feels like those quarterbacks that don't have that it's like a narrower path right like drew breeze I think walked that path right like yeah and drew was like I think he's going to have a good up and aren't without better than than party and yeah yeah I remember like parents people talk about like when Sam Donalds there and with the 49ers was like oh like there was like a
35:11
[SPEAKER_01]: kind of different, you know, and then I look at it, you don't have that testosterone in the world to be a little bit of successful.
35:17
[SPEAKER_01]: And when they're super old, you know, Jimmy grew up alone.
35:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember that was like a storyline too.
35:20
[SPEAKER_01]: I was calling a game out there for Fox and you know, someone kind of brought to my attention.
35:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Like how many balls do you see actually travel over 40 yards now I feel?
35:27
[SPEAKER_01]: And I said, come to think of it, I don't think I've seen one in my film prep so far and they're like, well, that's kind of the thing.
35:32
[SPEAKER_01]: And like, well, how often are you going to need to do that?
35:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, right, I guess, in the super bowl that you get beat by, but I got you can't do that all the time
35:41
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it's important right as a ball goes through Sanders hands versus him complete the ball to Hill whatever right Okay, so there's one kind of in the middle here.
35:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's get to the other guys too like really quick.
35:56
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm looking at some of the matches here The guys drafted later, Joralor with the Steelers Carson Beck with the Cardinals Garrett Nussmire with the Chiefs Cole Colpate and with the Eagles
36:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Is there is there any one of those guys or maybe somebody else where you look and say, you know, I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up becoming a pretty good player.
36:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so there's two to stick out to me.
36:21
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, a lot of these kids like I kind of love like who they are and everything else like kid club Nick.
36:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's such a like, yeah, well experienced safe pick.
36:29
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of things with there's a lot of things well.
36:32
[SPEAKER_01]: If the Jets don't win this year and Glenn could be out and now you've got, you know, a whole coaching staff and offense, et cetera.
36:37
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's just, there's some guys who are in certain situations you just don't feel, you know, great about, I would say, like drew all of the one to me that I look back on his career.
36:48
[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of felt like,
36:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Man, when you see him, when he talked to him, he's got such a strong arm.
36:55
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a better athlete, I think people give him credit.
36:59
[SPEAKER_01]: He's an incredibly smart kid.
37:01
[SPEAKER_01]: He knows football.
37:03
[SPEAKER_01]: He's gonna make all the right decisions.
37:04
[SPEAKER_01]: He's definitely a really good organization.
37:07
[SPEAKER_01]: assuming Rogers comes back so he doesn't have to necessarily go in right away and be the guy he could sit and watch learn from Hall of Famers.
37:13
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of things working for him.
37:17
[SPEAKER_01]: He's, you know, staying in the same state.
37:18
[SPEAKER_01]: He went to college.
37:19
[SPEAKER_01]: I know he's at a higher kid, but he's one that I look at and I just say, I think, you know, if someone can get that,
37:26
[SPEAKER_01]: that switch to turn on for him.
37:28
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I'll go back through Kent State.
37:30
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it was James Franklin, who was maybe Mike Romantia a little bit of what Andy Colnicki was doing because Andy Colnicki was so creative for his time at Kansas.
37:39
[SPEAKER_01]: He got the Penn State and you saw some of that, but you also saw some things, you were like, all right, this doesn't really fit.
37:44
[SPEAKER_01]: They're a person that one might pick up, and it was a great fit for him, right?
37:48
[SPEAKER_01]: No, and that's where I say like, so I don't want to like, take too much from that, because I also don't know the dynamics.
37:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if James Frank was trying to run it, the offensive he wanted, and kind of again, handcuffed for you.
37:58
[SPEAKER_01]: But...
37:59
[SPEAKER_01]: He's the one that I say like, man, he kind of reminds me a little bit of like size-wise of like big men.
38:05
[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that's you know, that's a Hall of Famer.
38:07
[SPEAKER_01]: So you make that comparison.
38:09
[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm telling you, he's got a ridiculous arm.
38:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so there's a lot, there's some similarities there.
38:15
[SPEAKER_01]: I really like where he ended up, what he couldn't end up being.
38:17
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the other one's that's mine, obviously.
38:19
[SPEAKER_01]: You get this chance to learn from Andy Reed.
38:21
[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to watch and sit behind touch with homes.
38:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Not that he's ever going to actually play there, he'll have to play in pre-season or maybe if you get some opportunities to patch, if it's hurt.
38:30
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think he takes that experience, he takes everything from there.
38:33
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's got some one-shit arm talent, a pill to make every single throw and some special throws, and he got a little boxing and something to him.
38:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So there might be something there, it looks sub-throwed pig, it's a flyer, but I'm saying I think he's another one that I love the situation that he entered into, entered into.
38:50
[SPEAKER_00]: The crazy thing is, like, he's only the believer not the third quarterback that Andy's drafted since he got to Kansas City, Aaron Murray and Mahomes, obviously, of the other two.
38:59
[SPEAKER_00]: And they did it more often in Philly, and there are some great success stories, you know, obviously, AJ Feely was somebody who became, you know, a star or somewhere else, they draft Kevin Cobby develops.
39:10
[SPEAKER_00]: there and goes and starts for the cardinals after that.
39:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So they had some guys that came through there that they were able to develop the same way Andy was a part of doing that green day, you know, behind far when they had Hasselbeck and Brooks and and Bruno and all those guys.
39:27
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so we'll turn the page here real quick.
39:30
[SPEAKER_01]: The tailing green pig by the browns.
39:32
[SPEAKER_01]: that peaks my curiosity for a lot of reasons.
39:34
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, granted former brown, but also growing up fan of the else.
39:38
[SPEAKER_01]: He just oozes with talent, ability, and Todd Munkin's creative offensively.
39:42
[SPEAKER_01]: That's one brum just kind of curious.
39:45
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a legitimate freak.
39:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what I'm saying and I could see them having a package for him.
39:51
[SPEAKER_01]: because of his size and athleticism, where you force defense is that the put that in every week and prepare for whatever that brings.
39:59
[SPEAKER_01]: And that might get him on the field, which might lead to, hey, this team plays really good defense.
40:05
[SPEAKER_01]: They've got this guy who's kind of special running the football with the running game, like, that might play a bigger role than people realize this year.
40:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I would be shocked, depending on how he develops if that doesn't come
40:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so this guy's the next guy is the guy I was referencing an earlier, the in-between guy now.
40:24
[SPEAKER_00]: He would have been on the 27 list.
40:26
[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like for uh, for interesting reasons, he might wind up being in a supplemental draft.
40:33
[SPEAKER_00]: That's Brendan Sorsby, who was at the University of Cincinnati last two years in the end of before that left in the end.
40:37
[SPEAKER_00]: I believe right is Signetti was coming in there and a transfer to Texas Tech where he's going to play this year.
40:44
[SPEAKER_00]: My understanding was $6 million, and I held deal at tech.
40:48
[SPEAKER_00]: And so, five or six people.
40:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I remember when I was six, and then I'm million going back to Cincinnati, which they're fighting over or whatever.
40:57
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so,
40:59
[SPEAKER_00]: What do you see with Sores B because he seems like one that like someone might just say I'm going to throw a second around pick out there on yeah and if you don't know it's a silent auction in the in the supplement also sort of an interesting situation I think for someone to take a look at here.
41:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was actually going to say like, when people are like, hey, like, who does your remind you of, it's like, well, he immediately reminds me of, they're more than just kind of drafted in this year's job, like, they had a quarterback, we helped them win the big 12, and they're getting the playoff and all that.
41:33
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where he reminds me of, like, they're kind of similar in size.
41:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I think SourceB might be a little better athlete.
41:38
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure he's got even a better arm.
41:40
[SPEAKER_01]: I watched, you know, from as far as what sits that, he was asked to do, and then what he was asked to do, what Barrel's asked to do at Texas Tech.
41:48
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like they're very similar.
41:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Like you kind of liked where you were with more than, see a plug-in source to you to come in and do something similar.
41:56
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's I think a second round pick is probably the high end of where he would go.
42:03
[SPEAKER_01]: I can see it maybe the second or third of the supplemental.
42:06
[SPEAKER_01]: You see a lot of throws out short horse idling and vertically kind of down the sidelines.
42:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't see quite as much in the middle of field or land as much throws from breaking down some of his tape.
42:19
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'd like him as a prospect, but we're going to talk about the 2027 class and there's a bajillion guys who like are just absolute studs.
42:28
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is like, I'm not trying to hype it up for any other reason other than like all these guys may draft eligible.
42:35
[SPEAKER_01]: And I honestly wonder if some of them might stay back because they can get paid a good amount in I.L.
42:40
[SPEAKER_01]: But also they're like, do you do I really want to be fighting with like five other guys to be a first round pick?
42:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
42:47
[SPEAKER_01]: I would set the over 100, five and a half quarterbacks drafted in next year's first round.
42:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think there's going to be, yeah, many guys and maybe I'm maybe I'm short selling it.
42:56
[SPEAKER_01]: It should be six and a half.
42:57
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the crazy thing about next year.
42:59
[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll get to next year now.
43:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I, I don't know that there's someone, it doesn't feel to me at least.
43:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Like there is what Caleb Williams was three years ago.
43:08
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going in to that 23 college season.
43:12
[SPEAKER_00]: You knew this guy's gonna be the top of the draft in 24.
43:15
[SPEAKER_00]: I think Drake may was somewhere in that category too.
43:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Jaden Daniels was like, maybe a little bit later to the party, right?
43:21
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, the way to cover up because you win the high school everything else.
43:24
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah.
43:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
43:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
43:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I would argue this.
43:28
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there was, you know, when Kille Williams first came on home on the success end right away and then even if you would see when the high's been like there was already had that right, Jake earned it that last year and honestly put it the best of everyone that final year and then Drake, you know, he didn't have his greatest final year, but the year before kind of put them more in the map.
43:46
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
43:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, but that was it.
43:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Like you kind of those three, we're talking about this is like again,
43:53
[SPEAKER_01]: It's an insane list of potential guys, I know I say potential, but if you're going to look at what Ty Sims did in one year and he's in the 13th of all pig, there's a lot of things we start going on in the conversation of just having one good year who will also have prior starting experience that throw into the fact that maybe they change schools, they go into offense, they excel in that system of offense, after one year and it might be worthy of them.
44:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I have 12 names written down, one of them, one of them you actually want to.
44:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Huh?
44:25
[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to leave one off.
44:27
[SPEAKER_00]: That's okay.
44:28
[SPEAKER_00]: I gave you, I actually got one from you.
44:31
[SPEAKER_00]: So that might be the one here because I texted with you about this a few weeks ago.
44:35
[SPEAKER_00]: And there was one that you gave me that I'll tell you when I get to it.
44:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but here's the 12 I've written down.
44:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Dante Moore from Oregon, CJ Car from Notre Dame, Archmanting from Texas, Julian St. from Ohio State, but Noris Sellers from South Carolina, Sam Levitt, who was at Arizona State's now to LSU.
44:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Dairy and Mensa, who was at Duke, is now at Miami.
44:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Drew Mastemaker, that's the name that you gave me.
45:01
[SPEAKER_00]: He was from North Texas, I think he's now at Oklahoma State, right?
45:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, yep.
45:06
[SPEAKER_00]: John Matier at Oklahoma.
45:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Nico E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E.
45:31
[SPEAKER_01]: DJ lagway interesting prospect of me because I saw there was something there if he ends up having the year I think you can have it bail it will see.
45:40
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't know that I view material and it could be just size wise, but again, like you're talking to that guy, you six one.
45:49
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, but he's got a progress.
45:50
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how much the injury played a factor in him last year.
45:53
[SPEAKER_01]: He, I got such a hot star with his eyes and favorite.
45:56
[SPEAKER_01]: And then it kind of simmered simmered off.
45:59
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, he was playing with a hand injury.
46:00
[SPEAKER_01]: So it very well could have impacted that.
46:02
[SPEAKER_01]: But I would say that's that's the list.
46:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And I noticed that you put him in a certain order where it feels like maybe that's how you had them ranked.
46:13
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it was my friend.
46:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
46:15
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a friend.
46:16
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just I thought, but maybe it made me subconsciously it was.
46:19
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
46:20
[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I just kind of jawed them down.
46:22
[SPEAKER_00]: But it wasn't.
46:24
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't.
46:25
[SPEAKER_00]: But yes.
46:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, you look at it.
46:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
46:27
[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably like roughly how I would.
46:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
46:32
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the thing.
46:32
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like that would list in my opinion, like you like I think you brought up Nikolay Maliob.
46:38
[SPEAKER_01]: He's kind of like the forgotten man.
46:39
[SPEAKER_01]: All of this.
46:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Like another guy on throw into the mix is Josh Hoover.
46:43
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's played a lot of football so far.
46:45
[SPEAKER_01]: TCU transferred out of replace Fernando Mendoza, intrinsic nexus and Indiana.
46:49
[SPEAKER_01]: He's looking to do that same thing.
46:52
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just it's pretty wild.
46:54
[SPEAKER_01]: But if you really come through like even deep into this, like Kevin Jennings has brought a lot of success.
46:59
[SPEAKER_01]: to SMU and what he's been able to do for that program.
47:03
[SPEAKER_01]: Connor, Wigman was really high recruit come out of high school, initially at Texas and AMD's now if you used them, we'll see what that looks like.
47:09
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, got our stocked, it's another name that's out.
47:11
[SPEAKER_01]: There's just, there's a ton of names.
47:13
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Aiden Childs was very highly coveted by Jonathan Smith to go to Michigan State in the first case.
47:18
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a kid who's got all sorts of talent abilities.
47:20
[SPEAKER_01]: So even like mid-late rounds, you're talking about a ton of quarterbacks who will be eligible,
47:26
[SPEAKER_01]: And with the NCAA and providing a fifth year, that'll obviously prevent somebody's guys off from going.
47:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Either just because they're playing or having additional your ability to not want to compete with those guys.
47:37
[SPEAKER_01]: But for me, there's like 10, 12 guys.
47:39
[SPEAKER_01]: You were going to say after the season, like, probably to go top the first second third round, somewhere that's some of that bull car.
47:46
[SPEAKER_00]: How many of those guys do you feel comfortable with saying, I think he's the first round right now?
47:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Look, everyone's gonna say it's biased, but I think you know how I feel about CJ Carr.
47:55
[SPEAKER_01]: He started one season and to me, if you put him in this draft class, like I think upside everything else, the nature of his throws, probably still he would have created, keep his eyes down field, some of the clutch plays.
48:07
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's throwing no look past it as he first started Miami.
48:10
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like he'd be up there, Dante more obviously, he's up there, orange is up there, especially the way he played the second half of the season.
48:16
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the joint stands getting enough credit.
48:19
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think he also falls a little bit in that category of like size-wise, civil-to-ties Simpson, super accurate.
48:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just concerned with how he reacted under press trying to derress versus Miami.
48:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Like you go back to that and you're like, well, you'll be trapped into that situation.
48:36
[SPEAKER_01]: So what's that gonna look like?
48:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Look, in the one-door sellers, I think if he develops continues to develop from the pocket,
48:43
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a guy that you can throw into that conversation too because he's physically imposing.
48:48
[SPEAKER_01]: He's incredibly athletic.
48:49
[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a rifle for an arm.
48:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Messed to makers the one that I just I have a feeling that people are going to fall in love with them.
48:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just
48:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm putting that out there now because, you know, how a lot of the front offices are.
49:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes they come from these small schools.
49:03
[SPEAKER_01]: They love like finding that diamond in the rough.
49:05
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's a North Texas guy now, don't come with state and they're going to probably write them off.
49:09
[SPEAKER_01]: That system, he should put up a lot of numbers.
49:10
[SPEAKER_01]: But he's the political size.
49:13
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a very capable athlete right in the football.
49:17
[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a very simple motion.
49:20
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like very calm, very easy.
49:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Hasn't played the position for a long time.
49:24
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the other part of it that usually, like NFL skin.
49:27
[SPEAKER_01]: They love taking a guy like that.
49:29
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a derived and a hell thing.
49:32
[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit, but I wouldn't compare him to Ryan.
49:34
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, again,
49:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's some similarities there.
49:38
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that I make the direct comparison, but I'm trying to travel to another one and I think proved a lot with what he did in the play-out.
49:45
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm really excited to see what he can do this year because he was with talent, you know, laying nose, quarterbacks, you can sling it and even though he's not with him anymore, there's a reason why he was the start of this pastialness.
49:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Do they don't take more goes into the season?
50:00
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're an NFL GM, does he go into the season as the leader in the club house to be the first overall pick?
50:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
50:07
[SPEAKER_01]: I think his body of work, I think when we talked about it, I thought it came out this year with that would look like he's just a smoother, pure passer.
50:15
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when you watch them again, that the nature of the throws he was asked to make and work in, and watching him, I think he's probably had a little bigger arm to than Fernando.
50:24
[SPEAKER_01]: But,
50:25
[SPEAKER_01]: They're even the way it conducts himself, too, and they're going to not compare to Fernando, but separately, he's just very poised for it.
50:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's been prepared for this moment, the big stage, you know, running a program or running, um,
50:41
[SPEAKER_01]: an organization since he was like a high school case, super, super mature for his age.
50:45
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think he's gonna go into this draft as the number one of the clubhouse.
50:50
[SPEAKER_01]: I think Arch is probably right there.
50:53
[SPEAKER_01]: Number two, I think CJ Carr is the next one with Julian Sand.
50:57
[SPEAKER_01]: And how those two guys, the season and what that looks like, made a turn that.
51:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Then after that, I think there's a bit of a gap through talking about some of the other quarterbacks that are part of this group.
51:07
[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess they got the right war first then.
51:09
[SPEAKER_01]: You did, and that's why I thought maybe you're going that order.
51:11
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like,
51:32
[SPEAKER_01]: And actually, my office, the other one by the way, he's like, it's next to a lot of glasses.
51:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, honestly, like he, he's continued to improve.
51:40
[SPEAKER_01]: He's, you know, done extremely well.
51:42
[SPEAKER_01]: So far, he's a particular size.
51:43
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a really good athlete, a tough kid.
51:46
[SPEAKER_01]: He's the other one.
51:46
[SPEAKER_01]: I think, kind of falls in that maybe that that fifth quarterback of that group.
51:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I do want to ask about our specific because you saw him at the very beginning of the year, right, and the expectations could not have been higher, it's obviously a unique case because I mean he's from legitimate royalty right when it comes to his family, but one thing that like when I've talked to people who have evaluated one thing that kind of keeps coming up is he's not who people want him to be.
52:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And like people think like it's just Eli or Peyton with athleticism, and that's not really it.
52:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's a little bit more maybe like his grandfather than his uncles, right?
52:22
[SPEAKER_00]: And that he still needs to get better and more polished at the quarterback stuff, right?
52:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the actual operating from the pocket.
52:31
[SPEAKER_00]: his footwork and the pockets being like accuracy to all levels like that's the stuff he has to work on brings a big athletic kid who when you get him out on the edge he can make plays and you see him you just you almost see like I think from what I understand like there's a rawness to his game that maybe you wouldn't expect to see from a manning is that fair.
52:52
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, I think that's fair, but I mean, you said the name, I mean, I didn't get a chance to really see Archie play, but, you know, he's he's a mix between the two.
53:00
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm looking at just say he's kind of really perfect for what this Dan age playing quarterback and NFL requires even to call us football for that level.
53:09
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's got the ability to impact a game with his legs.
53:12
[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a strong enough form to make all the throws.
53:15
[SPEAKER_01]: He's obviously got the football IQ and the pedigree to be what you wanted to be.
53:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And he knows how to handle the spotlights.
53:22
[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, that's the two of his high school.
53:23
[SPEAKER_01]: So, but he's prepared for all of it.
53:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the toughest part was, you know, you'd be in the season versus on a state.
53:29
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's events going to be good, you just don't really know how good, and so then that kind of led me to keep going back to like, all right, well, how many teams are scoring that many points against them and you go, all right, maybe that performance, like, first one out of the gate, I always felt like,
53:44
[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the things that kind of gets lost in the shuffle and coach football is you don't have like left so you don't have pre-season like if you wanted to you could knock off some some rust or like beat down some directional school you know you're usually starting out the gate with a tough opponent yeah I remember my senior at Georgia Tech like we played down in Georgia Tech night game I mean everyone's hammer just you know
54:06
[SPEAKER_01]: told whatever they can.
54:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And like that's a team that went on to play for the ACC championship that year.
54:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Now like no one thought that at the moment, I think we dropped in the polls even though we want to tag game on the road.
54:16
[SPEAKER_01]: But they don't, they don't, they don't realize like a chance and it could call a good defense.
54:20
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they've got, you know, other than those, they're on that team guys, you know, across across defensive front and in their secondary too.
54:27
[SPEAKER_01]: So,
54:28
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to make too much of one game, and so as I watched them every single week throughout the course of season, you did see his confidence come back, you saw him begin to grow, and honestly, I will say this, and this is just my raw opinion.
54:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like there was something going on in the canopy with them with a shoulder or something.
54:48
[SPEAKER_01]: And then a high-stake game, maybe early in that season, because when I looked at the three games prior in the year before, there was something about his arm slots in the little higher.
54:59
[SPEAKER_01]: It felt like it was lower.
55:00
[SPEAKER_01]: You could see him at times like wincing when he threw.
55:03
[SPEAKER_01]: He looked hurt.
55:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Not trying to...
55:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it did look like he was comfortable throwing, so I don't know who was a hit in that game, whatever else.
55:10
[SPEAKER_01]: I know this.
55:11
[SPEAKER_01]: I know he's tough, and I know I'm sure he's being told that like never compliant, never make excuses.
55:15
[SPEAKER_01]: So I also know that's the hard part about it is if he was playing injured like we'd never know.
55:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Like no, whatever, no, besides maybe Sark or medical staff there in in Orange.
55:24
[SPEAKER_01]: But I just, I love everything about his game, and I think it's, I would not be shocked
55:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well, we started with Notre Dame, we'll end with Notre Dame, because CJ cars weren't like really intrigues me.
55:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Because it was background for people who don't know, he's, you know, the grand son of Lloyd Carr, the national championship winning Michigan coach.
55:49
[SPEAKER_00]: But he was a very highly rated recruit.
55:51
[SPEAKER_00]: I know he was a big deal for Notre Dame to get him.
55:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And for anybody to get him away from Michigan.
55:56
[SPEAKER_00]: And like, he is a kid who does have pretty high in tools.
56:02
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so I think you probably have some pretty special insight, you know, you know, you're you being, you being a Notre Dame guy and everything else.
56:11
[SPEAKER_00]: What can you tell us about CJ Carr as an NFL prospect?
56:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he's one of those guys that kind of the way I talked about Johnson Moore being prepared for them all when he initially got into the college ranks like CJ has been prepared for it to me the entire time, you know, I would love to see what that season would look like with him as a true freshman just because he's that talented of a pastor.
56:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, he is the type of deep ball thrower that is leafly accurate and he's going for your chocolate.
56:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's throwing knockout punches again and again and again and again, I can control the rest of the offense, but it's like the ball's on a string man.
56:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's super accurate.
56:52
[SPEAKER_01]: He's got extreme deep ball accuracy and still the athleticism to create.
56:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Keep his eyes down, feel we find a big player creates something on enough thing, which is all the things you need.
57:00
[SPEAKER_01]: And then on top of it, he's got the pedigree again, we're talking about these football backgrounds.
57:04
[SPEAKER_01]: He knows the game.
57:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's got complete command of everything up the line of stretch.
57:08
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think the toughest thing for him probably this year is he's got sooner receivers from your alma mater at Ohio State that you're trying to develop that chemistry with.
57:16
[SPEAKER_01]: And in a spring game, it's tough to have enough time then.
57:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I suspect by the time they don't have a training camp, they'll be good to go.
57:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but I think if you're looking at their schedule, I've high expectations, I think he's in for a huge year, and I think if he does that he'll project himself to a lot of the conversations about the big awards, the playoff, etc.
57:35
[SPEAKER_01]: or anything else, but also as is that first overall pick.
57:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Because again, he's a guy who's kind of young in nature in that way, right?
57:41
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk about a second year starting, but he's got enough experience to make you feel good about where he's at and size, why does he checks those boxes?
57:48
[SPEAKER_01]: I would say this too, and I've got to know their family, you know, he lost a brother, and he is one of the more grounded people as far as his perspective and understanding like what he's playing for, what football means to them, what he represents, you know, form self for his family for the brand.
58:11
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think there's elements to that that plan is, it's confidence, it's faith,
58:15
[SPEAKER_01]: And so again, I could go on on about this class because I think you've got a lot of that in this class, but he epitomizes that as far as being a guy that's like, you want us to face with your organization like that's that's what I love about this is he actually is still a Notre Dame right now for at least another year if not more and they're looking out.
58:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, it's it's actually really interesting because you do hear about and so like this year like the stories I heard about for Ananda Mendoza were unbelievable.
58:42
[SPEAKER_00]: I just help her parody is how maniacally I think it's exactly what you were referencing with Brady and like the early stuff that I've heard on them, right?
58:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Like so Dante more CJ car archman and Julian sand like like I
58:56
[SPEAKER_00]: everything you get back on those like those four and I and maybe I'm not leaving anybody out here it's just the four that I that I've actually heard this about like just outstanding kids and there is a way to make it and this is an important part of being quarterback in the NFL, right?
59:13
[SPEAKER_00]: If there is a, if there is a path for them to succeed, they're going to find it.
59:16
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
59:17
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the guy think that that's sort of, it's a huge part to it, right?
59:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, some of these guys go into bad situations in the league and there's nothing you can do.
59:25
[SPEAKER_00]: But if there is a path, like if there's a reasonable path for, for, for, for these guys succeed and become franchise quarterbacks, they're going to find it.
59:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's that'd be the expectation, you know, and it's it's again, these guys walking into the NFL as prepared as ever before with everything else that comes along with the money of being paid.
59:45
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that was one of the kind of things that I think we we overlook just human beings used to expect like, all right, you walk into the NFL and you have everything else off the field taken care of too or someone's helping with that.
59:56
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like no, and that when this is the first time that anyone's in your family's ever done this, right, like there's a learning curve there.
1:00:03
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think for them to be able to kind of maybe even, I'm not saying anyone went through growing pains, but just to learn that process, how those things take care of.
1:00:12
[SPEAKER_01]: So when you do get to the NFL, like you don't have to worry about like finding a financial advisor or having all those things out that you have to figure out when you do first receive that big lump sum of money.
1:00:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Like that stuff matters.
1:00:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Like being able to eliminate those distractions and have everything in place makes it to me at least a much easier transition for them too.
1:00:32
[SPEAKER_00]: 100% like and you hear that from like NFL people all the time is like you don't have to guess anymore uh like how a guy's gonna handle instantly becoming rich you know what I mean because most of them already are and so you don't have to worry about how he's gonna adjust to that how he's gonna handle it like some of the family dynamics that are working don't have to worry about that quite as much anymore
1:00:52
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's a really interesting thing because I remember and I probably said this in the radio show to you guys before, but like You know, Troy Brown who was an awesome awesome guy.
1:01:02
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it was great receiver for the Patriots back in the day.
1:01:04
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, in the early years of of Brady, you had this saying you used to say when we did TV together, money only makes you more of what you already are.
1:01:14
[SPEAKER_00]: And so like you know, I think it's a great way to encapsulate like how whatever a kid is money is going to highlight it like if if if you have the right mindset the right tensions you're going to spend that money to make yourself better.
1:01:38
[SPEAKER_01]: I would also point this out.
1:01:39
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're getting to like a golden area era of quarterback playing the sense of, if you really think about when the private quarterback industry started to like hit and take off.
1:01:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, these kids were probably just being born.
1:01:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
1:01:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I would say around 2000 or early 2000s, was when things started to take off.
1:02:00
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was coming out of high school, 2003's my graduation year.
1:02:02
[SPEAKER_01]: So I lead to 11 was like a big thing.
1:02:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Nationally, I know it's huge in California, and they usually had a lot of calorie kids, but you had to go to Nike camps in order to even qualify for different, illegal, 11 levels.
1:02:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And then all of this stuff came along since then.
1:02:15
[SPEAKER_01]: But the reason why I point this out is,
1:02:17
[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of these these young kids who have been playing quarterback almost their entire life.
1:02:23
[SPEAKER_01]: They have refined the tools and everything that they need to be in regards to their talent throwing the football for years.
1:02:31
[SPEAKER_01]: And so there are a much more finished product when they get the NFL than ever before, you know, the specialization of sports and everything else all that stuff's become way more mainstream in the past 10, 15 years and all these young men
1:02:44
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the other like small piece about this that I think maybe it's lost in the shuffle where it's like I was a three sport athlete, you know, I was getting to Notre Dame still working on different things mechanically and forward and all that stuff even in the NFL though it's still kind of tweaking stuff and you had quarterbacks where you had all these things all that's gone now because everyone's so in tune with like just that throwing motion since a time they're 10 to 11, 12 years old they're like that's the life that they're born into.
1:03:10
[SPEAKER_00]: They're like golfers, right?
1:03:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, it's like, I was amazed because like, you know, my kid goes to like, this passing academy in my 11 year old.
1:03:18
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's a little death grade tight end.
1:03:21
[SPEAKER_00]: So they've let him, so he goes for free, right?
1:03:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we're severs can go for free.
1:03:25
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I watch the quarterback, all the quarterbacks and they have, you know, a couple of groups, they're the younger kids than the older kids.
1:03:32
[SPEAKER_00]: And I watch them all throw.
1:03:34
[SPEAKER_00]: And what strikes me, Brady,
1:03:36
[SPEAKER_01]: is like when I was a kid when we would when when you line up all your friends and throw a football like they all throw football differently they all look the same exact same like like the Tom houses of the world, I mean like they've now like been able to teach legions of coaches out there too and people who've taken their stuff and kind of done their own but
1:03:58
[SPEAKER_01]: at the end of the day, it's so different.
1:04:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I always tell people and they're like, well, what, I'm like, well, one is more like a torque kind of with your kind of lower half the way you're, you know, kind of disconnecting the two and creating that width.
1:04:10
[SPEAKER_01]: That's supposed to like, before it's like over the top.
1:04:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
1:04:12
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a much different throwing motion.
1:04:14
[SPEAKER_01]: So,
1:04:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, all that's involved in change since then and again, these guys have been born into it.
1:04:19
[SPEAKER_01]: So they, they're actually getting it on like the upswing and obviously the best part of it.
1:04:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Whereas like I was learning some of the stuff late in my career.
1:04:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, you can't Jesus.
1:04:27
[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do?
1:04:28
[SPEAKER_00]: First have a mechanics coach.
1:04:30
[SPEAKER_00]: How old were you when you first?
1:04:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I mean, probably the NFL as far as like someone is like looking at more mechanics.
1:04:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I used to, um, I used to try to work with a quarterback coach, but so much of it was like,
1:04:43
[SPEAKER_01]: kind of football 101, you know, drops from under center, like you worked on your footwork so much more than your upper body mechanics, you know, my throwing motion came in large port out of like playing baseball and pitching and catching when I was like forever, sell down your soul.
1:04:58
[SPEAKER_01]: And that was just how it was like, hey, that's how you throw his nose and mess with that.
1:05:00
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's just kind of interesting to see like the specials they succumbed to such an early age now compared to what it used to be.
1:05:07
[SPEAKER_00]: I remember, you know, like, because, you know, my dad played football and passed it down to me and like I remember when we were when I was a kid going to Fenway and we saw the Red Sox play the Texas Rangers and I remember seeing Nolan Ryan and the Rangers pitching staff in the outfield warming up with a football and Tom House was on that pitching staff right and I remember asking Tom about it like all these years later.
1:05:36
[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, he basically said to me, he was like, you know, back then, and I remember this because I, you know, I'm older and everything else now, but like I, he said like, you know, back then like everybody said throwing a football on baseball, we're like totally different things.
1:05:51
[SPEAKER_00]: And I always thought that was bullshit.
1:05:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and it wasn't true.
1:05:54
[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, you should be throwing it the same way.
1:05:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's all rotational athletes should be working the same way.
1:06:00
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's still ahead of his time with that.
1:06:02
[SPEAKER_00]: And he was like, that's what that was.
1:06:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, when you had to grip a football, you had to maintain a certain throwing motion that was good for your baseball throwing motion.
1:06:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why we use a football to warm up.
1:06:14
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's almost like putting a donut on your bat.
1:06:16
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, I just, it's interesting
1:06:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, and again, he's so knowledgeable.
1:06:24
[SPEAKER_01]: I was unfortunate enough that back surgery that allowed me then to be in LA, where I had surgery, where I was recovering, rehabbing, and so I got to go visit with him.
1:06:33
[SPEAKER_01]: And at this point in time, it was year seven in the NFL.
1:06:37
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, well, I need to first get back so I can move, because I was going to drop foot and other things from the injury, but even more so than that, I was like, man, I don't know that I can physically like, talk the way I need to on my back, everything else.
1:06:50
[SPEAKER_01]: And plus even be able to do it once you go to live game.
1:06:53
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's the hard thing is other guys went to him to try to change and tighten up their motion.
1:06:58
[SPEAKER_01]: I won't name names, but there was one, he was out there working out and I was like, yeah, I look at the same way, I like that, I got to change it all, but they tried, because once you get into a live game scenario, it's referred back to your gauge form of training.
1:07:14
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the hard part is like you can always show our standpoint.
1:07:16
[SPEAKER_00]: for sure.
1:07:17
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
1:07:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he's Brady Quinn, former NFL quarterback, former Notre Dame quarterback.
1:07:22
[SPEAKER_00]: One of the co-hosts of big noon kickoff and my buddy on Thursday mornings.
1:07:26
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he comes in a prop.
1:07:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Two pro's with a couple of joke.
1:07:30
[SPEAKER_00]: God, I can't get it out of my mouth.
1:07:31
[SPEAKER_01]: No, he's not sometime too.
1:07:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Depends on that.
1:07:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
1:07:35
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have all right to.
1:07:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, I really appreciate you coming out and educating all of us Brady.
1:07:40
[SPEAKER_00]: We will talk to you Thursday.
1:07:42
[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome.
1:07:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds good.
1:07:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I was fun.
1:07:44
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for having
1:07:52
[UNKNOWN]: You
