Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everybody? Welcome into this edition of
- 0:12Speaker 1: the check O'deli.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's Andrew de Cheko with a Friday podcast, which means
- 0:17Speaker 2: we get game statuses.
- 0:19Speaker 1: And there are a lot of names.
- 0:21Speaker 2: On the Philadelphi Eagles who will not be available, and
- 0:24Speaker 2: we're going to go through them right now out for
- 0:28Speaker 2: Sunday versus the Giants. Cornerback Jacorian Bennett pectoral, wide receiver
- 0:33Speaker 2: aj Brown hamstring, defensive end Brandon Graham not injury related,
- 0:38Speaker 2: cornerback of Dori Jackson concussion, center Cam Jurgen's knee, and
- 0:43Speaker 2: outside linebacker Azizo Jilari hamstring, questionable, wide receiver Darius Cooper
- 0:51Speaker 2: with the shoulder. So let's break all this down. I
- 0:55Speaker 2: was really surprised that Jacoreyan Bennett is not going to
- 0:59Speaker 2: be available for this weekend.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Jacoreyan Bennett was listed as a full participant and he
- 1:06Speaker 2: was on Thursday. Remember the Eagles open up his twenty
- 1:08Speaker 2: one day practice window Wednesday, But who knows, maybe he's
- 1:15Speaker 2: not quite ready to go yet, and obviously not given
- 1:18Speaker 2: the Eagles lack of depth there at corner because of
- 1:21Speaker 2: Dori Jackson won't be playing with that concussion.
- 1:24Speaker 1: So we won't see Jacoreyan Bennett until.
- 1:28Speaker 2: After the bye week and after the NFL trade deadline,
- 1:35Speaker 2: which is really notable because earlier in the week, Eagles
- 1:38Speaker 2: defensive coordinator Vic Fangio mentioned that he would give Jacorean
- 1:42Speaker 2: Bennett incomplete when asked to evaluate what he's seen from
- 1:46Speaker 2: him thus far. Look, Jacorean Bennett's played just twenty four
- 1:49Speaker 2: defensive snaps twenty on special teams, so he's an unknown
- 1:53Speaker 2: entity at least in this defense. So now the Eagles
- 1:58Speaker 2: won't have a sense of what Jaqurean Bennett is or
- 2:02Speaker 2: isn't before the trade deadline. I thought that if he
- 2:07Speaker 2: checked off a lot of the boxes this week that
- 2:09Speaker 2: they're looking to see, that the Eagles would be so
- 2:11Speaker 2: inclined to get him involved defensively to get a better
- 2:14Speaker 2: assessment and see where he is and if he can fit,
- 2:18Speaker 2: if he can be a piece that they can work
- 2:21Speaker 2: with and plug him in as the cornerback too and
- 2:25Speaker 2: stop the revolving door.
- 2:27Speaker 1: But it wasn't to be. So.
- 2:29Speaker 2: The corners that will be available behind Quinna Mitchell and
- 2:32Speaker 2: Cooper Egen Keeley Ringo who gets the start, and Mac
- 2:37Speaker 2: McWilliams the rookie corner Perry Nickerson, the veteran. That's their
- 2:41Speaker 2: setup this week. So I talked about Keey Ringo in
- 2:45Speaker 2: the previous podcast. He'll get another opportunity against a team
- 2:48Speaker 2: that he struggled against a couple of weeks ago in
- 2:52Speaker 2: that week six Thursday night football game. Now, there were
- 2:54Speaker 2: some mental lapses, like not tagging down Wandel Robinson, and
- 2:59Speaker 2: he needs to play the ball better. I look at
- 3:01Speaker 2: that thirty four yard completion of little Jordan Humphrey.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna be keeping.
- 3:05Speaker 2: An eye on Ringo to see if he cleans up
- 3:08Speaker 2: some of those miscues because I do think he's going
- 3:11Speaker 2: to be better, and the Eagles are giving him another opportunity,
- 3:16Speaker 2: this time out of necessity, and it becomes incumbent upon
- 3:21Speaker 2: Keighley to go out there and prove the coaches right,
- 3:26Speaker 2: and maybe just maybe he showcases enough that he gets
- 3:31Speaker 2: a longer look and maybe it precludes the Eagles from
- 3:34Speaker 2: looking to at a corner at the trade deadline. Now,
- 3:39Speaker 2: a lot of the names that you see surfacing, I
- 3:41Speaker 2: don't know that they're definitively better.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Than what the Eagles have.
- 3:45Speaker 2: And my opinion on this whole thing is they probably
- 3:49Speaker 2: have something there between the three players of Dori Jackson,
- 3:53Speaker 2: Jacoryan Bennett, and Keeley Ringo. So you would think that
- 3:57Speaker 2: one of those players are going to emerge. They have
- 4:00Speaker 2: some optionality. They all have a different type of skill set.
- 4:04Speaker 2: But that's I mean, Adori's been up and down, Keighley's
- 4:08Speaker 2: been up and down, and Jakorean's an unknown entity. So
- 4:11Speaker 2: it leaves some uneasiness there and rightfully so at the
- 4:14Speaker 2: cornerback position. No Cam Jurgens this week means what I
- 4:20Speaker 2: mentioned on yesterday's podcast that it's likely that Brett Toath
- 4:23Speaker 2: will get the start at center. At Thursday's practice, Brett
- 4:27Speaker 2: Toath was first up at center and.
- 4:31Speaker 1: The Eagles, you know, specifically Nick.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Sirianni when I think it might have been either Monday
- 4:37Speaker 2: or Wednesday, I mean, he's doubled down and tripled down
- 4:40Speaker 2: Whenever asked about Brett Toath about how much confidence they
- 4:43Speaker 2: have in him, he's been around for a while, and
- 4:47Speaker 2: that he's a player that they have a lot of
- 4:49Speaker 2: confidence in. And look, Jeff Stoutlin thinks very highly of
- 4:52Speaker 2: Brett Toath. I really enjoy talking to Brett, and he's
- 4:57Speaker 2: super insightful.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Really smart guy.
- 5:00Speaker 2: He's been around a lot he's very well versed in
- 5:03Speaker 2: Jeff Stotlin's techniques and his philosophy. And maybe now that
- 5:08Speaker 2: he's not having to play left guard. I remember Brett
- 5:12Speaker 2: played left guard the last time the Eagles and Giants
- 5:14Speaker 2: faced each other. It maybe had, you know, the line,
- 5:18Speaker 2: maybe will have a different a different look or be
- 5:21Speaker 2: able to execute things a little bit differently because then
- 5:24Speaker 2: you have the left side intact with Jordan Malatta and
- 5:27Speaker 2: Landon Dickerson. And for continuity purposes, this makes a lot
- 5:30Speaker 2: of sense. So that's your answer there. At center, Let's
- 5:36Speaker 2: see we got Brandon Graham. That's another interesting one because
- 5:41Speaker 2: Beiji was a full participant all week. Remember Vic Vangil
- 5:45Speaker 2: mentioned that it's not just you know, the conditioning, which
- 5:48Speaker 2: football shape is different than ordinary conditioning.
- 5:51Speaker 1: It also has to do with retention.
- 5:53Speaker 2: He didn't have any concerns with that piece. But the
- 5:58Speaker 2: conditioning part is probably something that is going to take
- 6:03Speaker 2: you know, this week to get acclimated and then the
- 6:05Speaker 2: bye week. But as I mentioned before, the Eagles have
- 6:09Speaker 2: until November three to activate the two week exemption that
- 6:15Speaker 2: the that the Eagles have on Brandon Graham, so he'll
- 6:19Speaker 2: make his debut against the Green Bay Packers, and there'll
- 6:24Speaker 2: be some news because they have to activate.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Him to the fifty three men roster, so there'll be
- 6:28Speaker 1: some news.
- 6:29Speaker 2: There has to be some news in the in the
- 6:32Speaker 2: coming week or so, but he won't be available for
- 6:35Speaker 2: this game. I thought there might be a shot where
- 6:37Speaker 2: he would play. The Eagles are really light on the
- 6:40Speaker 2: edge as he's o. Jalari's not playing with the hamstring,
- 6:42Speaker 2: so they only have Jylex Hunt, josh Usha, and Patrick
- 6:46Speaker 2: Johnson as true edge players available for Sunday, So there's
- 6:51Speaker 2: going to be a lot of snaps there. Jayalox Hunt's
- 6:53Speaker 2: gonna have to undertake a really large role. Josh Usha,
- 6:56Speaker 2: who I think is going to pick up another sack
- 6:58Speaker 2: this week, his second on the year.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm going to double down on that.
- 7:02Speaker 2: But I just feel like Graham would have been even
- 7:06Speaker 2: if he plays, you know, five to ten snaps would
- 7:09Speaker 2: have helped him a little bit. So it looks like
- 7:11Speaker 2: Jahad Campbell's gonna have to play a lot more on
- 7:14Speaker 2: the edge this week, and that affords Vic Vangio the
- 7:17Speaker 2: ability to put in to Kobe Dean and find a
- 7:20Speaker 2: role for him, and the Kobe Dean's going to be
- 7:22Speaker 2: especially critical defending the run. We all saw what Cam Scattabow,
- 7:27Speaker 2: the rookie running back of the New York Giants, did
- 7:29Speaker 2: in the last meeting, rushing for ninety eight yards and
- 7:32Speaker 2: three touchdowns. Having someone in there like the Kobe Dean
- 7:35Speaker 2: who is very adept at coming up and playing the
- 7:38Speaker 2: run he gets downhill. He's also a good blitzer. And
- 7:42Speaker 2: they have Jalen Carter this week as well, So those
- 7:44Speaker 2: two editions are going to pay huge dividends in all likelihood.
- 7:49Speaker 1: But the edge rusher room is super light.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And that one was a mild surprise that Graham wasn't available,
- 7:57Speaker 2: given you know, his feedback and like that. And we
- 8:01Speaker 2: also saw Sadarius Smith play after coming in that same
- 8:05Speaker 2: week he played against the Chiefs, so it seemed like
- 8:08Speaker 2: he had a decent shot, but.
- 8:09Speaker 1: He will not be available this week.
- 8:12Speaker 2: The biggest surprise to me was Jacoryan Bennett, however, for
- 8:16Speaker 2: the reasons that I outlined, But let's cruise down this list.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Here we have AJ Brown.
- 8:27Speaker 2: AJ Brown not playing in this game. He didn't practice
- 8:31Speaker 2: at all this week, and it's you know, if it's
- 8:36Speaker 2: a hamstring, and let's not forget AJ had a hamstring
- 8:38Speaker 2: injury that plagued him in training camp and precluded him
- 8:42Speaker 2: from playing a lot or from being able to go
- 8:45Speaker 2: out there and have a lot of practices under his belt.
- 8:47Speaker 2: So he won't be available this week against the Giants,
- 8:49Speaker 2: and then you have the bye week. So with a
- 8:51Speaker 2: hamstring injury as a wide receiver or a corner, those
- 8:54Speaker 2: injuries can be very fickle and you don't want to
- 8:57Speaker 2: make it worse.
- 8:57Speaker 1: You don't want to reaggravate it or make it worse.
- 9:00Speaker 2: So he'll have a couple of weeks to nurse it
- 9:03Speaker 2: and get back to full strength because the schedule gets
- 9:06Speaker 2: a little bit more daunting after the bye week, and
- 9:08Speaker 2: they'll need a healthy aj Brown to give the opposition
- 9:14Speaker 2: all they can handle. But this week sets up to
- 9:17Speaker 2: be a really really big game for Devonte Smith, going
- 9:20Speaker 2: against a porous Giants secondary who isn't going to have
- 9:24Speaker 2: Paulson Adebo their top corner, so it'll be Devonte Banks,
- 9:27Speaker 2: Cordell Flat on the outside cornerback Drew Phillips, who I
- 9:32Speaker 2: like a little bit playing nickel Javon Howen. Their safety
- 9:36Speaker 2: they're starting safety is listed as doubtful, so they're kind
- 9:39Speaker 2: of leaking oil there in the back end, and I
- 9:41Speaker 2: think Devonte Smith should be able to reap the benefits there.
- 9:45Speaker 2: That also means that Johan Dotson and John Metch you're
- 9:48Speaker 2: gonna have to elevate to two more prominent roles and
- 9:53Speaker 2: take on a larger role in the passing attack. Johan
- 9:56Speaker 2: Dotson is a natural outside receiver. We'll see if he's
- 9:59Speaker 2: able to to factor into the equation offensively more than
- 10:03Speaker 2: he has. I certainly think that he will. Also, Darius
- 10:07Speaker 2: Cooper was listed as questionable. He was full participant in
- 10:12Speaker 2: his first practice back, which was Thursday, full participant on Friday,
- 10:18Speaker 2: but listed as questionable, so he could potentially be in play.
- 10:21Speaker 1: The Eagles would have to activate him to the fifty three.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Man roster and make a roster transaction Saturday by four o'clock,
- 10:28Speaker 2: but he has an out side chance of playing.
- 10:30Speaker 1: It would give them some depth.
- 10:31Speaker 2: They also have Xavier Gibson who returns kicks and he's
- 10:36Speaker 2: play a little receiver in the NFL as well. So
- 10:39Speaker 2: not great from an injury perspective there for the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 10:44Speaker 2: and a lot to consider now looking at it in
- 10:47Speaker 2: terms of the trade deadline.
- 10:48Speaker 1: If I'm the Eagles and there are some needs you.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Look at cornerback, edge, offensive line depth. Those were all,
- 10:57Speaker 2: I guess concerns, valid concerns in training camp.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Talked a lot about it throughout the.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Offseason, and it's still a concern right now. But if
- 11:06Speaker 2: I had to prioritize the needs, I would say edge
- 11:10Speaker 2: rusher has to be first and foremost, because if you
- 11:13Speaker 2: add an edge rusher, you are now adding another player
- 11:17Speaker 2: who can provide some pressure for one But more importantly,
- 11:21Speaker 2: it allows the Eagles to slot some of these other
- 11:24Speaker 2: players into roles that they're more ideally suited. And maybe
- 11:29Speaker 2: ja loox Hunt doesn't have to rack up a bunch
- 11:31Speaker 2: of snaps.
- 11:31Speaker 1: The game and he's you're able to alleviate some of that.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Same goes for Nolan Smith when he returns, which should
- 11:38Speaker 2: be some time in November. The way that he plays
- 11:40Speaker 2: the game very physical, he's had the triceps, maybe he
- 11:43Speaker 2: doesn't have to play as much if you add another
- 11:45Speaker 2: player at that position. And we'll see what happens with
- 11:48Speaker 2: the Zizo Jalari. We talked about the hamstring injury for
- 11:52Speaker 2: aj Brown. That's an injury that can linger, and it
- 11:55Speaker 2: does typically for athletes. But I would put edge one.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Offensive line depth would be number two for me because
- 12:02Speaker 2: the Eagles offensive line is banged up and if any
- 12:05Speaker 2: of those guys are unable to go, they don't necessarily
- 12:08Speaker 2: have a wealth of options in terms of who they
- 12:14Speaker 2: can plug in to give you competent play there. And
- 12:17Speaker 2: for if you can't block up front, you can't play out,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you can't run your offense. They have Fred Johnson, they
- 12:23Speaker 2: have Brett Toth, they have Matt pryor their veteran suwell
- 12:26Speaker 2: A Peta play a lot of football for the Eagles,
- 12:28Speaker 2: thirty eight games, ten starts.
- 12:30Speaker 1: He's on the practice squad.
- 12:32Speaker 2: But I wouldn't put it past the Eagles, who prioritize
- 12:37Speaker 2: depth in the trenches, if that was a position that
- 12:40Speaker 2: they would go after. And remember, you can be aggressive
- 12:45Speaker 2: and you can seek out help, but it takes two
- 12:47Speaker 2: to tango. There's going to be a lot of other
- 12:49Speaker 2: teams who were seeking help to.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Fortify their roster.
- 12:53Speaker 2: With so much parroty in the NFL, there's not a
- 12:55Speaker 2: lot of teams that are definitively out of it, so
- 12:58Speaker 2: it might make for an interesting trade deadline. And then
- 13:01Speaker 2: lastly for me, and it might be a surprise to
- 13:03Speaker 2: some of the listeners, it would be cornerback. So cornerback
- 13:08Speaker 2: is it's still a need, but you can get by
- 13:12Speaker 2: in my estimation, with those three players who I mentioned
- 13:15Speaker 2: at the top of the show, because if you add
- 13:18Speaker 2: to your pass rush group, that will alleviate pressure from
- 13:22Speaker 2: your back end. And they already traded for Jaquorian Bennett.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I don't know how many more times you can add
- 13:27Speaker 2: another corner And then you're asking them now to learn
- 13:31Speaker 2: a complex position in a scheme that demands a lot
- 13:35Speaker 2: of their secondary play, particularly safety, but corner as well.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So then you have to wonder when would they be
- 13:40Speaker 2: available and up to speed enough where they can help
- 13:43Speaker 2: the defense. And by that point it could be two
- 13:48Speaker 2: or three weeks. So that's the way that I would
- 13:51Speaker 2: slot it right now. I've gotten also asked a lot
- 13:53Speaker 2: of questions about Willy Lampkin. Willy Lampkin the offensive lineman
- 13:57Speaker 2: out of North Carolina who was.
- 14:01Speaker 1: The Eagles, or i should say, of the Rams.
- 14:05Speaker 2: He was acquired via waivers during cutdowns, but he was
- 14:11Speaker 2: put on injured reserve he suffered a preseason injury. The
- 14:13Speaker 2: Eagles claimed him in a savvy move because they were
- 14:18Speaker 2: intrigued with him, and now there's no pressure for him
- 14:21Speaker 2: to play.
- 14:22Speaker 1: He can recover on injured reserve. He can be in
- 14:25Speaker 1: the meetings and.
- 14:26Speaker 2: He can be around the building and they can work
- 14:28Speaker 2: with them, so he can get a lot of those
- 14:30Speaker 2: mental reps, which is gonna be really important. But I
- 14:34Speaker 2: have seen Willia Lampkin out on the practice field. He's
- 14:37Speaker 2: working out with the other injured offensive lineman, Cam Williams
- 14:40Speaker 2: and Miles Hinton, but there hasn't been any talk of
- 14:44Speaker 2: him having his window open or anything like that.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 14:51Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
- 14:54Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 14:58Speaker 3: the dispense for sports fans. Just minutes outside of Philly,
- 15:03Speaker 3: with plenty of free parking, You'll be in and out fast,

- 15:24Speaker 3: the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating.

- 15:32Speaker 3: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 15:36Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros. Cam din Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 15:42Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 15:45Speaker 3: one and up.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I see Willie in the locker room here and there,
- 15:49Speaker 2: so when I think of it, if I get a chance,
- 15:52Speaker 2: I will be sure to ask what the progress is
- 15:54Speaker 2: since I've gotten a lot of it questions about it,
- 15:57Speaker 2: and I really like this tape. Coming out of college,
- 16:00Speaker 2: he had a good preseason. That's somebody that should help
- 16:02Speaker 2: the Eagles, not necessarily sure if that's in the immediate future,
- 16:06Speaker 2: but right now he's injured. He's still on injured reserve,
- 16:10Speaker 2: but I have seen him work on a side field
- 16:12Speaker 2: with other injured players. And then there's Drew Kendall, the center,
- 16:15Speaker 2: who I have also gotten questions about. He was active
- 16:18Speaker 2: for just one game. I believe it was the Giants
- 16:20Speaker 2: game when they didn't have Landon Dickerson, and he played
- 16:24Speaker 2: three special team snaps, so he hasn't really factored all
- 16:27Speaker 2: that much into the offensive plans, nor did I really
- 16:31Speaker 2: expect him to even as a reserve lineman on game day.
- 16:34Speaker 2: He can play guard as well, but he's really a
- 16:36Speaker 2: center by trade, and just Sallin typically doesn't like to
- 16:39Speaker 2: play rookie lineman, and especially when you have Brett Toath,
- 16:43Speaker 2: who's played a lot of football and he's been around
- 16:45Speaker 2: a while, he's wise. It just never felt like it
- 16:48Speaker 2: was a legitimate possibility that Drew Kendall would get an
- 16:53Speaker 2: opportunity here. Now he probably will be active Sunday because
- 16:57Speaker 2: of Cam Jurgen's not being up this week. But there's
- 17:01Speaker 2: sort of my updates on everything, uh, just everything that's
- 17:05Speaker 2: top of mind right now.
- 17:06Speaker 1: This has been to czech odally.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I'm Andrew to check O and I'll talk to everybody
- 17:10Speaker 2: on Sunday after the game.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Have a good one.
