- 1:12Com I love Lisa Ann he. Loves Lisa Ann and he loves
- 1:15other things as we all know, Mr. Could you imagine?
- 1:19I am. Just before we get into the next
- 1:20segment, I am going to the Super Bowl probably next week
- 1:25probably. We don't know yet, but we're
- 1:26probably pushing to do that. I, I, I'm pretty sure Jabba
- 1:30might be coming. I, it's me, Speedy and Nathan.
- 1:35Could you imagine hanging out with these two guys?
- 1:38I mean, seriously, I love these guys.
- 1:40Nathan's a personality, Speedy's a personality.
- 1:43I'm crazy. And then Jabba has got to hang
- 1:45out with them too. That is an interesting bunch of
- 1:48characters. Jabba, we need some unleashed
- 1:49prevention spray. We've seen in my history that
- 1:54spray doesn't work, so we'll have to figure out something.
- 1:59That's true. We'll have to get there has to
- 2:01be a spray that we can, you know, keep Niffin neutralized
- 2:05because somebody's got to neutralize this kid anyways.
- 2:08We call this Jabba Rules. Yeah, we're going to.
- 2:16We're going to go on a little bit of obviously it's going to
- 2:20be Nebraska based in this Java rules segment.
- 2:23But what I want to know is I understand that they sign deals
- 2:28with different networks, but we've seen in games before with
- 2:34with football wise and did anybody expect Nebraska to be in
- 2:39this situation? No, they did not.
- 2:41But we've seen six day holds for football games to see what
- 2:46network can have them on. So now we have a top five match
- 2:50up in the Big 10, three verse 5 in Michigan and Nebraska
- 2:57tomorrow and it's on Peacock. What the hell are we doing?
- 3:04Like you, I understand you can't have a six day hold for this
- 3:08because football is obviously different.
- 3:09But how can't you change that to be, it's a 6:00 PM Peacock game.
- 3:18So when you have a top five matchup in all of basketball,
- 3:25why, why can't you switch the times?
- 3:29Why can't you switch the network?
- 3:31I understand contracts and I get that, but you can't be like,
- 3:35well, we'll give you another Peacock game, but why wouldn't
- 3:39ESPN will pick up as we're watching Arizona versus BYU
- 3:42right now. So one versus 13, you got a
- 3:46three, but you got a top five matchup and it's on Peacock.
- 3:52So now you're making everybody else buy another streaming
- 3:55service where it could be posted live on ESPN or whatever network
- 4:02you want to choose. And I don't know all the
- 4:05insurance and outs of their contracts, but you have a top
- 4:08five matchup in in a conference. Why is it not at prime time of
- 4:17what this is? It just, it blows my mind that
- 4:21they can't figure that out from that, even though you didn't
- 4:24expect it. But it's here.
- 4:27It's happening. They're the winningest team in
- 4:30all of college basketball right now.
- 4:33They're 24. They won their last 24.
- 4:36Never, never in my wildest dreams would I ever thought I'd
- 4:39be talking Nebraska basketball more than Nebraska football.
- 4:44But they haven't switched. I I don't know why they can't
- 4:47make the adjustment for basketball when you have a
- 4:50Cinderella, be able to switch the networks like you do for all
- 4:56other sports. And we need to figure out those
- 4:59rules because it don't make no damn sense to me.
- 5:05By the way, you better TuneIn because it it's going to we're
- 5:09we're 10 1/2 dogs right now, but it it's going to be an
- 5:14interesting game. Michigan's very good, though, so
- 5:16you can't take it. Lightly.
- 5:17No, you ain't lying and one of our best players is out.
- 5:20So. And I can, I can speak on that
- 5:24because it's one of the kids Carter grew up with.
- 5:27And to have a kid that can get downhill and do what he does and
- 5:31spread the floor, yeah, it's going to suck.
- 5:34But we're we're going to cover. I don't think we're going to
- 5:39win, but we're definitely going to cover.
- 5:44All right, ladies and gentlemen, that was JABBA rules.
- 5:48And now, ladies and gentlemen, we do this after every main
- 5:52event, every big UFC bout. We call this caged NMMA.
- 5:58Jerk, why'd you take your pants? Off my balls are fired.
- 6:05It's time. This is Cajun MMA.
- 6:12All right, ladies and gentlemen. And we have a very special
- 6:14guest, one of our interns. And why don't you make an
- 6:18announcement, my friend, because everybody knows who you are.
- 6:21You've been on our show before. How are you my friend?
- 6:24What's up fellas? How you doing?
- 6:25I'm doing great. Good to see you all again.
- 6:27And yeah, it was a it was an awesome card.
- 6:30It was a great main event. It was it was a great main
- 6:33event. I don't know about awesome card.
- 6:35And well, I would say that it definitely helps that the main
- 6:38event was. Great.
- 6:38Oh, the main event was spectacular.
- 6:40And we're going. To get into the main event,
- 6:42Absolute cinema. Oh is the best and I I don't
- 6:44care what everybody is saying after the fact, but I'll get
- 6:48into that. But the reason why I was upset
- 6:51is because Kayla Harrison had the withdraw off this card.
- 6:55It was supposed to be Amanda Nunez and Kayla Harrison as the
- 6:58Co main event. It was Sugar Shane O'Malley who
- 7:01might might have another fight or two left in him this year.
- 7:04He wants to retire after these two fights.
- 7:06He thinks it's Peter Yon, but he has to first wait his turn
- 7:11because Peter Yon has another, another fight with, you know who
- 7:14I'm talking about, Mr. Long Island native himself, who's
- 7:18been living here on Long Island. So that's the that's the whole
- 7:21thing. Merab is going to get a chance
- 7:23to defend or get a chance to win back his belt.
- 7:26And Jan is going to be training. And that might be at the White
- 7:29House moving forward in June or July.
- 7:31When that that card comes around, it could be Merab and
- 7:35the one we call Yon Peter Yon So but yeah, like you said, the
- 7:40card was not great. It wasn't something Sugar was
- 7:44the the Co main event because he's a very big fan favorite.
- 7:48He he won the fight really in the third round.
- 7:51He was going to lose that fight if he didn't come out really,
- 7:54really strong the way he did and as and as champion, as a
- 7:57champion he's been before. You got to go out there with
- 8:01guns blazing and he did. And he threw enough punches and
- 8:04he threw enough to to to make his opponent bleed enough where
- 8:09it showed the obvious. I think the UFC to me, I thought
- 8:13sugar, sugar, Shane O'Malley lost the fight.
- 8:15I thought he was down to nothing going into the third round.
- 8:19But he is a fan favorite. If you lose that fight, like
- 8:22just like Conor McGregor did against Nate Diaz, maybe Conor
- 8:26McGregor doesn't have another second-half of his career where
- 8:30he fights Poirier or any of that.
- 8:32So they had to, they had to give the fight to him.
- 8:34O'Malley did come out strong in the third round, but where was
- 8:37he in the first round? Where was he in the second
- 8:39round? And that's my take on that.
- 8:41How about you? Yeah, I think I think you're
- 8:43right about the error. I think he kind of came out a
- 8:44little timid. He was trying to feel out Song
- 8:46You Dong in the first round. They didn't throw either of him
- 8:48a lot of volume. I think what won and what won
- 8:52the round for O'Malley was he just had a couple more strikes
- 8:55in the fight. But again, it was a very close
- 8:57round. Round two, ya ya dog got the
- 8:59takedown and kind of controlled O'Malley there.
- 9:01And then he came out strong in that third round.
- 9:04I think that's what the judges saw.
- 9:05I believe it was 2928 unanimous decision.
- 9:08So that third round really was the telling point for him.
- 9:11So again, I'm sure the UFC would love to do Piotr Yan O'Malley
- 9:16too for a rematch at the White House is, I mean, again, if who
- 9:19knows, they're saying potentially 5 or 6 some title
- 9:22fights. I'm not sure if that's realistic
- 9:24or what they're shooting for, but I'm sure they'd love to do
- 9:27that rematch. You know, of course, there is
- 9:29still more Rob out there depending on if he wants an
- 9:31immediate fight or if he wants to take some more time to rest
- 9:34because again, the man did fight four times last year, which
- 9:37again, which is why he was fighter of the year.
- 9:39He was amazing. So that'll be interesting to
- 9:41see. But yeah, for me, man, I was, I
- 9:43was really excited. I was really happy that Gaichi
- 9:45won. He's my favorite fighter of all
- 9:47time, a big Justin Gaichi fan and I thought coming into this
- 9:50fight, a lot of the books and a lot of people were being really
- 9:53disrespectful to Gaichi. I thought Patty should have been
- 9:56the favorite, but I thought that +200 for Gaichi is that was a
- 10:00big underdog. I was like wow, really 2 to one
- 10:03like he's the underdog. I was really shocked and I was
- 10:05like, look, I get it. Patty's young, he's hungry, he's
- 10:09got better jiu jitsu, better grappling, and Gaichi really
- 10:12only had the the power advantage in the striking, but he showed
- 10:16just like, and you know, for the lightweight division especially,
- 10:18there's level to this son and his Dustin Poirier and Armin
- 10:21Siruki. And we're all calling out Patty
- 10:23after the fight and Justin was saying he's disrespect the
- 10:26legends, and the legends are going to come and they're going
- 10:28to take you down. You know, what makes that fight
- 10:31so amazing is the fact that Pat, the way Patty came out, the way
- 10:34the fans got him riled up and he came out dancing.
- 10:37It was something of a storybook show.
- 10:41And and that's what you want. It's a circus.
- 10:43And Patty Piplett, Patty the Batty went out there.
- 10:46He showed people why he's a fan favorite, why they love him so
- 10:49very much. I love Patty Bibblet and I love.
- 10:53Yeah, he absolutely did. And he was dancing.
- 10:56He looked like he had all the energy.
- 10:57He didn't look like he was scared.
- 10:58But obviously he's never been in the ring with the highlight.
- 11:01He's never been in a ring with a guy that has the the the
- 11:04punching power of his ability that he's going to throw
- 11:07haymakers and even Gagey after the fight when he was speaking
- 11:11and he was telling you what he said, that wasn't the game plan.
- 11:13That was not my game plan to come out there and try to knock
- 11:16his head off, but that's what happened.
- 11:17So and and he did poke Patty in the eye in the first round,
- 11:22which definitely caused problems in the fight.
- 11:24And then he did it again in the third round, which the referees
- 11:27did not see, which affected Patty and eventually got him on
- 11:30the ground and he was pulverizing him on the ground.
- 11:33Gagee is a guy to me that is so very dangerous because his
- 11:38punching power. Every guy, every guy that's been
- 11:40in the ring with this guy or in the Octagon with this guy has
- 11:42said he is the hardest puncher he's ever they've ever been in
- 11:45the Octagon with. He throws these haymakers, They
- 11:47don't even look that bad when he throws them, but he has so much
- 11:51punching power behind it. And if you look at Patty and his
- 11:54size when he got into the ring, and I'm not talking about when
- 11:56they did the weigh INS, within 24 hours, that guy put it at
- 12:00least £25 on him. It's amazing how big he looked
- 12:04when he got into the ring with Justin Gagey.
- 12:06He was twice the size of Gagey and Gage.
- 12:08And I'll tell you what Patty did wrong in this fight.
- 12:10He didn't take Gagey down. He stood with Gagey and did what
- 12:13Gagey wanted him to do, stand with him and take a beating.
- 12:16And that's what Gagey loves to do.
- 12:18You want to be Justin Gagey, you taken to the ground.
- 12:20He's a great wrestler, but Patty has the ability to do those
- 12:23things. He's great grappler, great
- 12:25wrestler too. And his strength, I'm not, I'm
- 12:28not saying that Patty can't fight and stand up and, and
- 12:30knock people out. He's got that ability.
- 12:32But that's what happened. And as the rounds moved in,
- 12:35Patty looked tired. Because Gage is the type of guy
- 12:38that wears people out. He gets you to chase after him
- 12:41and then he chases after you. And if, if he's chasing after
- 12:44you and he gets you against that fence, that's when you're in the
- 12:47most trouble. And that's what happened to
- 12:48Patty. As soon as he got caught behind
- 12:50the fence or against the fence, Gagey went out, went to work and
- 12:54he he pulverized him. The one thing that Patty did
- 12:57well in the fight was stroke kicks.
- 12:59He mutilated his legs early in the rounds, especially early in
- 13:04the fight. Gagey thought twice a moving
- 13:06inside with him. Gagey was not checking him at
- 13:09any point of the fight and it looked like Patty was going to
- 13:13use that as his advantage. But guess what?
- 13:15Patty stopped doing that in the later rounds and that gave Gagey
- 13:18the confidence to move inside, get those punches, throw those
- 13:22haymakers, and then he caught him a couple times.
- 13:24Patty fell Fatty fell three times in a fight and every
- 13:28single time you saw when Patty was trying to get up and Gagey
- 13:31was on top of him every time Gagey was laying on him, he was
- 13:35throwing absolute bangers at him.
- 13:37He inside outside on the side of his face and it it showed Look
- 13:42at Patty's face after the fight. Gagey had not one of not really
- 13:45no scratches on his fight in this fight and and and Patty
- 13:49Pimblan. I've never seen Patty Pimblan
- 13:50get pulverized like this in his career.
- 13:53This guy to. Me.
- 13:54He's never bled that much in the.
- 13:56Never, never. I've never seen this before and
- 13:59and I love Patty and Patty's going to get another chance.
- 14:01And I agree with him. You know, if he's going to lose
- 14:04to somebody, you lose against the highlight.
- 14:06He looked up to him. He grew up a big fan of Gagey.
- 14:09Everybody looks up to get Justin Gagey.
- 14:11I look up at Justin Gagey. Never got a chance to interview
- 14:14him. I interviewed Poirier, I've
- 14:16interviewed all these different guys, but I never got a chance
- 14:18to interview Gage. And hopefully one day we do.
- 14:21But Gagey is an interesting dude because even after the fight
- 14:25gave, you didn't know how to answer the question.
- 14:27And I don't know if anybody look after he walked out and he went
- 14:30to the dressing room, they were giving him food and he he was
- 14:34like, I haven't eaten for 24 hours.
- 14:36Could you imagine going into an Octagon with an empty stomach?
- 14:40This guy did not eat that night after the weigh insurance.
- 14:43He went into the fight with an empty stomach.
- 14:46That says a lot about who he is and what he is about his
- 14:49training and what he believes in his style of, you know, going,
- 14:52you know, being a fighter that he is.
- 14:54He's 38 years old. I don't care what anybody says.
- 14:57Ilya could say whatever he wants.
- 14:58Everybody can say what he wants about Pimblet.
- 15:01Pimblet is is a great fighter. Patty is.
- 15:04There is no reason why anybody should attack this guy.
- 15:07He's a salesman. That's what he's doing.
- 15:09He's selling the UFC. You want those guys in the ring.
- 15:11You want those guys dancing to the fans.
- 15:14Before he even came out to his music, fans were going crazy
- 15:17crazy for him. And that's what you want to see
- 15:202 fan favorites go one-on-one with one another and give you
- 15:23one of the best fights I've ever seen.
- 15:25I'm going to tell you, I've watched the mixed martial arts
- 15:27my whole life. I've been a part of mixed
- 15:29martial arts. I've been fighting in mixed
- 15:31martial arts, in boxing and in in combat sports.
- 15:34I have never seen two guys go at it.
- 15:36Patty could have went down. Patty could have been knocked
- 15:38out. He kept getting up and asking
- 15:40for more. That's all you ask from a
- 15:42fighter. It shows you how tough he is and
- 15:44how big of a, a heart, how big of a heart he has.
- 15:46It was a wonderful fight. I believe that was fighting here
- 15:49and the moral beyond fight was a great fight.
- 15:51But I, I'm sorry, this was the best fight so far of the year.
- 15:55And we're in, we're in January still and we're saying this is
- 15:58the best fight of the year. It's amazing.
- 16:00If you watch Yaichi walk out and did you read his lips, he goes,
- 16:05I love this. When he walked out, he goes, I
- 16:10love this. And for me as as somebody that
- 16:13feeds off energy, he knew what he was doing.
- 16:16This ain't nothing new to him. But he walked out and like for
- 16:21that recognition because this is the strongest thing we have
- 16:24right here. And that's what you just said.
- 16:27That wasn't his game plan originally and how he changed
- 16:31because he knew he was going to be in a battle.
- 16:35He knew what it was. I, I will tip my hat to Patty
- 16:40because I didn't think he would take it as well as he did.
- 16:43I thought early on the way that he was attacking his legs in
- 16:47lower half just like, OK, then now you take him down and you go
- 16:50your jiu jitsu, you go your route because you're afraid of
- 16:53the punches. But he was like, I think they
- 16:56both switched it up and it's like, well, now we're in a
- 16:59battle. I think I also think that when
- 17:01you watch the fight, Gagey Gagey kind of pushed Patty to fight
- 17:06his fight. That's the just match of
- 17:08fighting you know better than anybody.
- 17:10It's like you you push him in ways where you know you're
- 17:13better and he did it. But the way the fight ended up
- 17:18going was great for us as viewers because you want, you
- 17:24wanted to see that. You didn't want to see him.
- 17:26You didn't want to. You didn't hear any boos.
- 17:28You didn't hear any boos. And we've seen that in plenty of
- 17:32fights where it's like, all right, this is going, as we've
- 17:35seen with all of Khabib's camp, like they wrestle and beat you.
- 17:39That's what they do. They wrestle you.
- 17:41And it's kind of boring sometimes.
- 17:43But that fight was, from start to finish, entertaining.
- 17:49If Pimlit actually fought his style of fight, he might have
- 17:53won the fight and I think. What he I don't disagree at all,
- 17:56I think. He fended and on on a thought
- 17:59that, hey, I want to give the fans everything that they're
- 18:01paying for here, and that's what Patty does.
- 18:04Patty is a fan favorite. That's why that's why you want
- 18:07that and that's why guys that even though he lost the mutual
- 18:11respect you have in a ring is is is completely different.
- 18:14That's. That's the problem job.
- 18:16That's why that's where I was getting at after the fight and
- 18:20when obviously Joe Rogan came up to him and he looked at it and
- 18:23you saw him, he was down and out and he said everything that he
- 18:28came out in the fight. He said listen to the fans.
- 18:30He said if it wasn't for the fans, I wouldn't.
- 18:32I wouldn't be the fighter that I am.
- 18:34And he says I want it obviously leave the ring with the belt,
- 18:37but he says I would have. If I'm going to lose to
- 18:39somebody, I'd rather lose to this guy than anybody else.
- 18:43And and everybody was attacking him that he because he's 38 and
- 18:45he's 31 and that he's an old man.
- 18:48But guess what? As old, I can name a lot of guys
- 18:51that won titles at old ages. Randy Couture, Randy Couture,
- 18:55Chuck Liddell won a title later in his career.
- 18:58You. See as well.
- 18:59Yes, yes, a lot of these guys, even though what's his name
- 19:02again? Who's fighting next week in the
- 19:03main event? Vulkanowski.
- 19:05He wanted 36. Volcan Volcanowski just won.
- 19:07Won the belt again, yeah. So.
- 19:09Yeah, I think Arrow, I think you and Jabba both made great
- 19:11points, like just made he made Patty fight his fight.
- 19:15And like I I was really scared for Gaichi coming into this
- 19:17verse because he hardly threw any light kicks and Patty was
- 19:21chopping him down early and I thought he's he's softening up
- 19:24Gaichi so he can set up the takedowns and get into his jiu
- 19:26Jitsu. But I think when when Gaichi
- 19:29first put hands on him and Patty was like, holy shit, when he
- 19:32because I like he said, I don't think he'd ever felt power like
- 19:35that before in his life. But it showed the resilience of
- 19:38Patty Pumlin, even though he was his face looked like a tomato.
- 19:40Like he said, like the Scousers, we don't get knocked out.
- 19:43And Gaichi, yeah, he said like, my God, he was trying to kill
- 19:47him the whole fight. And his coaches were yelling.
- 19:49I'm saying like that wasn't the game plan.
- 19:50I was trying to kill him and they were getting mad at me.
- 19:53But it shows you the heart and the resiliency of Patty Pimble.
- 19:55And like you said, Errol, he's still 31 years old.
- 19:58He's got plenty of time. I think he'll work on his game
- 20:01and he'll definitely be a. Champion.
- 20:02Someday I would love to see him. Like his only mistake, his
- 20:07biggest real mistake I thought was I, I was scared.
- 20:09With Gaichi, he was ducking and dipping a lot and that leaves
- 20:12him open in his defense with knees, but he was able to get
- 20:15away with it. But with Patty, his issue was he
- 20:17never really took his head off the center line and Gaichi was
- 20:20popping him tons with his jab and then his upper cut.
- 20:23He was done. His hands were dipping.
- 20:25He was letting. He was letting Gaigi get every
- 20:28power punch he wanted on him and every time Gaigi went after him
- 20:32when he got it, when he moved Gaigi into the middle of the
- 20:34ring, that's where he was dominating.
- 20:36That's where Patty was dominating.
- 20:38But every the time gaging backed him up, it looked like it was
- 20:42his fight and gaging made it his fight.
- 20:45And and again, I, I will say this about Patty.
- 20:48I love the guy. I really do.
- 20:49I, I, I was never a Conor McGregor fan.
- 20:51Never. But I don't like his antics.
- 20:54But this guy, there's no antics with this guy.
- 20:56This guy, he has a lot of respect for the everybody that
- 20:59gets in the ring with. I obviously him and Ilia don't
- 21:02like each other and one of these days these guys are going to get
- 21:06in the Octagon with one another and I can't wait that for that
- 21:09to happen. I think it'll be a great fight
- 21:11and I don't think I I don't think these guys will stand
- 21:14against one another. I think both guys are great,
- 21:16great, great takedown fighters. I think Patty will be a little
- 21:19bit smarter against Ilia than and and I'm going to tell you
- 21:22Ilia doesn't have the power that Gagey has.
- 21:25Gagey has this power. It's like it's like, it's like,
- 21:28it's not. It's like a heavyweight power
- 21:31coming from a lightweight fighter.
- 21:33It is an amazing thing watching this guy throw punches and and
- 21:37how and if he lands full thrust, he can knock out a heavyweight.
- 21:41That's how strong Justin Gage he is.
- 21:43And it's a great story too with Justin.
- 21:45Justin came into mixed martial arts a little bit later in his
- 21:48career and really became a fan favorite the last six years of
- 21:53his, you know, MMA career. A lot of people didn't really
- 21:56give him enough credit for all the work that he's put in and
- 21:59all the dedication he's put into the mixed martial arts world in
- 22:01the UFC. And the UFC loves him.
- 22:03Dana White loves him and loves the fact that Justin Gagey is
- 22:07the interim coach, I mean interim champion, and might have
- 22:10an opportunity at the White House to fight Ilya if it
- 22:14happens. Carol, why?
- 22:15Why I think they love it and and I want to hear both of your
- 22:18guys's opinions on this is because both of these dudes
- 22:21right now, they're so relatable as human beings because they're
- 22:26grinders. That's what they do like and
- 22:29that's why they put on such a product.
- 22:31That was great. Why obviously in the first
- 22:36Peacock Paramount plus, excuse me, with event that they're
- 22:41doing, you had two dudes that are relate.
- 22:44They're us, they're us. They just happen to be really
- 22:47damn good at beating each other up and they didn't give in and
- 22:52they knew that was an absolute battle between both of them in
- 22:57the respect. Because I think when you try to
- 22:59draw a crowd and you try to draw things to us as viewers and as
- 23:05spectators and people that love the sport is you got dudes that
- 23:09are relatable. And it's it's something that you
- 23:14saw with how things transpired throughout this entire fight if.
- 23:18If this fight wasn't like that Jabba, this would have been one
- 23:21of the worst cards the USC put together.
- 23:23It was bad this. Was, but it became relatable to
- 23:25because it's like that's that's the dude like we go to we go to
- 23:29dinner every month or we go have beers at at happy.
- 23:32Like that's the dudes that like we think they are.
- 23:36We don't know them personally, obviously, but it's like, that's
- 23:40the dude, and it's literally what I loved about it was first
- 23:44of all, the energy was crazy. Energy was dope because you get
- 23:48behind people like that. The energy didn't come from
- 23:51Gagey. The energy came from Patty
- 23:52Pimlet. He came.
- 23:54Both of them, the energy from Gagey is like, that's the dude
- 23:57that I sit next to or I go to the gym with that I would never
- 24:01know he's anything. Yeah, but that's the thing,
- 24:03Gagey. When he goes out there, he's
- 24:05holding the American flag, he's walking out there and he gets
- 24:08into the ring and I know stands for USA and it was USA versus
- 24:11England. That's the way people were
- 24:13making out to be. But it really wasn't.
- 24:15It was two guys with two 2 champions that have a lot of
- 24:19respect for one another. You have to like just engage
- 24:22you. Just engage you before the fight
- 24:23didn't go after Patty. Patty went after him and Gage
- 24:27you doesn't talk a lot of crap. He doesn't really go out there
- 24:30and and he does all his talking in the ring.
- 24:33He uses his hands and he says, oh, you want to?
- 24:35Talk. That's why the embedded wasn't
- 24:37anything like the embedded that usually like you have some of
- 24:41these ones and you know this as well as I do, Jake, those
- 24:44embedded ones where people don't like each other are fascinating
- 24:47for us to watch. The episodes.
- 24:49This one, you're like, they both respect each other.
- 24:52What are we going to get? What is it going to be?
- 24:54Yeah, Jabba, I think you made a great point about that.
- 24:56Like you said, the embedded, there wasn't too much fire
- 24:59behind it. There's a little talk at the
- 25:00press conference because obviously we want to hype up the
- 25:02fight. And they were obviously couldn't
- 25:03talk a little smack. But I was watching Justin
- 25:05Gaichy's personal YouTube channel and he was documenting
- 25:08his fight, which he calls the Art of violence.
- 25:10His, his, you know, his journey to the fight and his training
- 25:13camp. And like you said, you see him
- 25:15with his coaches, with his, with his fellow training partners at
- 25:19Kamaro. Ustman is one of them, coach
- 25:21Trevor Whitman. And you see how Justin interacts
- 25:23with his family and his friends and he's a very relatable guy.
- 25:26Like you said. And like you said, Errol, the
- 25:28energy was all behind Patty. And Justin was kind of like the,
- 25:31of course, the American and it was in America.
- 25:33But this international superstar who the UFC is trying to build,
- 25:37he had all the hype, all the energy going into the fight.
- 25:40But Justin was the everyman, the guy who you could, you know,
- 25:42like you said, Jabba, sit down, have a beer with talking, just
- 25:45loving sports and, you know, your everyday best friend.
- 25:48And as that fight built and built, the respect between both
- 25:51fighters and the respect from the crowd, they got behind
- 25:54Justin Gaichi while still being behind Patty Pimblet was made.
- 25:58It just, it's so, so special. I want to give a shout out to
- 26:01Patty Pimblet. And after the fight, after all
- 26:04that stuff and after all the craziness in that Octagon, when
- 26:08he spoke to Joe Rogan and coming out and saying what he said, his
- 26:12two, his two best friends killed themselves.
- 26:15And he said, listen, we fight. We have fun and we're fighting
- 26:19and and we love what we do. There's no reason to kill each
- 26:21other. Every man, if you need help, it
- 26:24says a lot about Patty Pendler because after losing a fight,
- 26:27hit a championship fight, which he's been fighting all these
- 26:30years to get into the Octagon, to have the opportunity to win
- 26:33that belt to, to go out and lose the fight the way he did and,
- 26:38and, and get pulverized the way he did.
- 26:40To go out there and, and, and put his, you know, and give a
- 26:43shout out to his friend's father and, and, and obviously his two
- 26:46friends that obviously killed themselves says a lot about who
- 26:49he is as a person. I, I think people want to look
- 26:51at him as a bad guy or he, he, he's trying to sell a product
- 26:55and sometimes he could be an ass.
- 26:56This is not a guy that's going to go out and try to find a
- 26:59Russian mafia guy and try to knock him out like a Conor
- 27:02McGregor has done after, after the fact.
- 27:05This is the kind of guy that you can go to a bar and drink with
- 27:08and have a little fun with and go dancing with and, and just
- 27:12have a, you know, have a conversation with.
- 27:14He is a good dude. And I, I, I give, I want to give
- 27:17a shout out to Patty Pimblett. Patty the Batty.
- 27:20He, he's a very likable person. I don't care what anybody says
- 27:23about this guy. This guy's got the heart of gold
- 27:26and it says a lot about who he is as a person.
- 27:29I, I, I, my heart goes out to his his friends and their
- 27:33families. To hear that story after the
- 27:35fact, it, it just says a lot about who he is.
- 27:37And, and it was a great fight. It was sensational.
- 27:39It was a draw. And I, I'm sure after that whole
- 27:43betting thing, that scheme fight, you know, he UFC, yeah,
- 27:48UFC had to take something off the card because there was some
- 27:52kind of information that there was some kind of betting scheme
- 27:55coming out of that fight. And, and the UFC has been very
- 27:59quick on this and, and Dana White's been really
- 28:01investigating this before even the fights happen.
- 28:03So I got to give Dana White a little bit of credit.
- 28:05Well, and he always, he always says that's the one thing he
- 28:08said. He's like, we noticed all the
- 28:09trends and that's why we we do the things that we do and to
- 28:13notice it. But yeah, I mean, you can't take
- 28:17anything like and we're talking about Fight of the year in
- 28:19January when they have 39 weeks of this and.
- 28:25And then but, but the job. But that's the crazy thing.
- 28:27When's the last time you can remember that there's another
- 28:29big fight? The week after 325 is next week.
- 28:33Think about that. They've got 325I don't remember
- 28:36in the beginning of the year. Yeah, yeah, it's a big fight.
- 28:40It's a better card than this one.
- 28:42Next week's cards better than this card.
- 28:43So when was the last time? Sorry.
- 28:46Really quick, one last thing. I just want to ask you, we'll
- 28:47talk next time. Obviously, I think because we
- 28:49have the interim champion just engaging now, I believe you
- 28:51probably will tell Julie to pour you at the White House for you
- 28:54for Patty because obviously he needs a name, but you don't want
- 28:57to just crush his confidence completely yet.
- 28:59I would think either. This is what I would think.
- 29:01I don't want to know what you think.
- 29:02I would probably give him either the loser of next week's Benoit
- 29:05Saint Denis and Dan Hooker or you could give him the loser of
- 29:10Holloway and and Charles Oliveira.
- 29:13I'm just wondering who would you think would be the next matchup
- 29:16for Patty Pima because obviously you want to keep him relevant,
- 29:18give him a star. But again, it's like, if you
- 29:21want to crush his confidence, what do you?
- 29:23What would you do personally? I would go Holloway or Oliveira,
- 29:26whoever wins that fight, they're 2.
- 29:28I would agree. They're they're two of the
- 29:29biggest names in in the sport. You want to put Patty Pimblet in
- 29:32there, He'll probably beat both of them.
- 29:35He cannot get into the ring and fight Max Holloway like that
- 29:38either. Max Holloway is the best boxer
- 29:40in in in the UFC. You do not want to fight him
- 29:43like that. His chimney, you can give him
- 29:45everything you got. He's he.
- 29:47He's going to go down in a grave like taking a punch, like it's
- 29:51not going to. He's got the heaviest punches.
- 29:53In yeah, I think those, I think those two matchups, what you
- 29:56bring up Jake, I think that's a better one because if you're
- 30:00promoting it and doing everything, their names first
- 30:02and foremost, right? You don't want to kill his
- 30:05confidence, you don't want to kill his name.
- 30:07But now it's like you got 2 stubs.
- 30:09But Jabba, you don't also want to put him in a ring with a guy
- 30:13that has the experience and that could beat him again and that
- 30:15really will put him down and out and make him feel like he can't
- 30:19do this. We've seen plenty of guys that
- 30:22have gone and lost 2, three in a row where they still are there.
- 30:26Interesting. The only reason I wonder was
- 30:29because he's kind of obviously he just beat Michael Chandler,
- 30:32been lost to Gaichi, but he's kind of ascended past that.
- 30:35You can't really give him someone lower than like the top
- 30:386. So I think maybe you could give
- 30:40him Dan Hooker BSD, but he he's almost too big of a star point
- 30:44where you kind of have to give him someone like a Charles
- 30:47Olivera or a Max Holloway. But the winner of that fight's
- 30:50probably going to be 1 to maybe fight the winner of Gaichi Ilia
- 30:53or even Armin Sarukian. But he's probably not ready for
- 30:56someone like Armin. So I'd say maybe give him the
- 30:58loser of that matchup or even just the.
- 30:59He does not want to. Patty does not want to fight
- 31:02Armin next. He doesn't want.
- 31:03To that's what I'm saying. I don't think you want to like
- 31:06just brutally take his Armin. He's angry and he's ready.
- 31:10I mean, again, we'll see what Dana White does with him because
- 31:12again, you can't just let him sit and wait forever.
- 31:14So the winner of Olivera and and.
- 31:18That's the crazy thing, because Peter Yon has Peter Yon forever
- 31:23was waiting for that fight with Marab.
- 31:25He waited a long time to get that rematch with Marab and then
- 31:29he finally got it and he proved himself.
- 31:31And now Marab is in the driver's seat.
- 31:33Because to me, Marab can wait. He's still, I saw him the other
- 31:36day and he is still has a broken nose.
- 31:38And I what I mean by that, I went to the gym, I saw Marab at
- 31:41the gym. His nose is still broken.
- 31:42So he's he's not going to be able to fight.
- 31:46He might not be able to fight in the next three or four months.
- 31:48He needs to give to give time. So maybe he doesn't maybe he
- 31:51doesn't fight yon at the White House.
- 31:54So we'll see. I, I think this is great.
- 31:56Thank you, Jake for joining us. We'll get you on next week cuz
- 31:59320 fives on next week. Your great takes man and happy
- 32:02to for you to join us on the UFC takes.
- 32:04Sounds good fellas. Good to see you.
- 32:06Have a good night you. Too.
- 32:08Jakey boy, great personality, great guy, great intern, and I
- 32:13agree with him. There was a lot, a lot to be
- 32:15said on that fight. It was really a great job by
- 32:18Jake and it was a sensational fighting.
- 32:20If you haven't checked my story, go check out my story.
- 32:22Speedy, send Jake my story, all right.
- 32:24I think he'll like it. I wrote a story about the gagey
- 32:27and pamphlet fight and I I put after the fight.
- 32:30I actually put two hours into it.
- 32:32I couldn't sleep that night, so I wasn't going to wait until the
- 32:34next day. The the fight didn't end till
- 32:36like 132 o'clock. So weird but weird.
- 32:39Didn't sleep. Shocker.
- 32:40Yeah, well, whatever. You should talk big mouth.
- 32:44All right, Ladies and gentlemen, we call this Dial It Up.
- 32:47We interrupt this regular scheduled hot mix to bring an
- 32:50important news book. We got a.
- 32:52Big broadcast to do here. We're about.
- 32:57To dial it up, let me tell you something, and it's funny about
- 32:59Jabba. I've got to know Jabba over the
- 33:02last, I would say the last year and a half.
- 33:06I, I, I know he is just like me. He is a night guy.
- 33:10He does not sleep. He's a, he's really like a mommy
- 33:15so he can make fun of me all he wants.
- 33:17He's up at two, 3:00 in the morning doing whatever the hell
- 33:20he's doing in Nebraska. Who knows, playing with himself
- 33:22or something? I said this, well, while he's
- 33:24not here, there's going to be a future graphic.
- 33:26Java, Java and a mummy Something something.
- 33:30Put job on a mummy scene. We'll get it going.
- 33:32There's like a whole like notebook of graphics I've got to
- 33:35get around to making. Let's get into.
- 33:38Dial it up. Everyone's favorite Lightning
- 33:41Round sports segment. We got a bunch of stories that
- 33:44Errol has not seen yet. He's going to react to them and
- 33:46then one of us will comment off of his reaction.
- 33:49Here we go. Got a few really good ones and
- 33:53one that's kind of updating as we're talking.
- 33:56Not this one. This one is real fascinating.
- 34:00Giannis down for another four to six weeks with a calf injury.
- 34:06It's going to take it past the trade deadline.
- 34:10But now that he's out and presumably they're going to go
- 34:14in the tank, is this making it more likely that he'll be dealt,
- 34:20even if it's like $0.75 on the dollar this season at the this
- 34:26year's trade deadline? Only in a few weeks, Errol.
- 34:29Dial it up. Absolutely.
- 34:32First of all, if a team like the Knicks, so the big Bulls or
- 34:36maybe the Thunder, we've heard stories about the Thunder.
- 34:39They have a tremendous amount of stock.
- 34:41If they think that they're missing something, and they
- 34:43might not be, the Thunder hasn't played well as they were, you
- 34:46know, six weeks ago, but they're still an elite team.
- 34:50But if they think they're a Giannis away from winning
- 34:52another title, I could see them pulling the trigger 100 percent,
- 34:56100%. This makes it a reason why why
- 34:59he's going to be traded at the trade deadline.
- 35:01It doesn't matter if he's out three or four weeks, teams will
- 35:04still offer the farm for him and give up whatever it takes to get
- 35:07him. He'll be ready for the playoffs
- 35:09and that's why you need Giannis is is winning a championship.
- 35:12So 100% this is a slam dunk. He will be traded at the trade
- 35:16deadline. Yeah, this is this is another
- 35:17one of these like phantom injuries or you're going to
- 35:20misdiagnose the length of the report.
- 35:21It may say four to six weeks. He'll be back in two weeks if he
- 35:24just end up on another team that he's not going to be stuck with
- 35:27Milwaukee A-Team. That's just really as we speak.
- 35:29We see with the NFL all the time, too, with a lot of these
- 35:31hamstring or cap injuries. This is nothing new.
- 35:34Giannis is inevitably gone. We'll see if it's the Knicks, if
- 35:36it's not somebody. If it's not the Knicks, it'll
- 35:37definitely be someone else, one of these younger teams.
- 35:39It's not the Lakers, just. No, it's not the Lakers.
- 35:41It's not the Lakers. I said young teams.
- 35:43I'm just. Saying it's not the Lakers.
- 35:45All right, from basketball, we go to the diamond and this one
- 35:53is surely going to really grind your gears.
- 35:57I don't know if you guys knew this, but it came out I think
- 36:01yesterday. There's some real great
- 36:03investigative reporting done by a reporter named June Lee
- 36:08because the Dodgers went bankrupt under the courts about
- 36:12151315 years ago, the MLB set up a deal with the Dodgers that
- 36:20instead of, I think it was around 25 to 33% of television
- 36:24revenue as outlined by, I believe, whatever bargaining
- 36:29agreement with the league. The Dodgers, because they went
- 36:33bankrupt, only have to pay 10% of their television revenue
- 36:38every year until the end of their media deal, which Julia
- 36:43discovered runs through 2039. She calculated it they save
- 36:5066,000,000 today, not to mention what it will be in the future
- 36:54with inflation each season because of this grandfather deal
- 37:01that's helping them be this deferred Dodgers that has been
- 37:07now a back-to-back champion Errol.
- 37:11Dial it up. Oh my God, the fact that I'm
- 37:13hearing this now even makes me more sick.
- 37:16I didn't even know about this story.
- 37:18It tells me one thing. Baseball wants the Dodgers to be
- 37:21the Dodgers. Baseball has put their
- 37:24organization on the line, their name on the line to protect an
- 37:28organization that's been ruining the game of baseball.
- 37:31I don't care what anybody says, the fact that Otani's there,
- 37:33Mookie Betts is there, everybody is there and they keep adding
- 37:37more and more players and they're grandfathered in till 2,
- 37:412039 and, and, and saving 66 or $70 million a year and they
- 37:46don't have to pay, but other teams have to.
- 37:48It's pathetic. It shows you how bad baseball is
- 37:51running, how the CBA and, and after this year has to go to a
- 37:54lockout and that ownership needs to figure out how to put the
- 37:58Dodgers in the same area and, and connect the Dodgers in the
- 38:02same position they're in. It's pathetic.
- 38:05This is really, really bad for baseball.
- 38:06And the Dodgers think that they could do whatever they want.
- 38:09And, and as I said, Rob Manford's running the league and
- 38:12Rob Manford I think is in cahoots with the Los Angeles
- 38:15Dodgers. It's it's pathetic, it's
- 38:17terrible. And, and again, it's typical.
- 38:20I'm not not surprised, not surprised at the story.
- 38:22It's it's weird because like I knew a little bit back end of
- 38:26this. I didn't know obviously the
- 38:28logistics of it, but it goes back to the fact that they they
- 38:33lost over 100 games and then stole the team for over a
- 38:37billion dollars after they had just lost 100 games.
- 38:41Magic Johnson's group like, so if you go back that far, that
- 38:45was part of the deal. That was part of the deal and
- 38:48why they could like grow and structure it.
- 38:51And I was playing at the time and we were like, what?
- 38:56This kind of doesn't really make sense, you know, And it's like,
- 39:00well, from a business aspect, it makes a ton of sense and that's
- 39:06why they did it. And now we're seeing the upside
- 39:11of what they're doing and how it's changing and is it right or
- 39:16wrong? And I never will ever admit to
- 39:20Arrow, but I I think you're right into that they're they're
- 39:24changing the game, not in a good way, but they've done it to be
- 39:30allowed to do it and save the money on the back end, the side
- 39:33of things where we we've seen it.
- 39:36And I kind of knew that from the get go.
- 39:39I didn't know how far this would go.
- 39:41Didn't didn't know it would go to this point.
- 39:44But they played their cards right and that's the way they've
- 39:48done it. And we'll see what happens as as
- 39:52moving forward with what 2026 is going to give us and then what
- 39:5527 is going to be it. Always looks bad when you're
- 39:58always when you have all these teams that are struggling with
- 40:01local TV deals that have gone bankrupt and had to switch
- 40:05networks or had to switch over to streaming services recently.
- 40:08And then you have these other teams like Jabba you were
- 40:10talking about the Dodgers were were bankrupt, they had to
- 40:13switch ownership and. And so quickly they just got
- 40:17like the Red Sox, all their like, carry over bad contracts
- 40:22in one year in 2012. And then they made the playoffs
- 40:25out this year where they were competitive with like Adrian
- 40:27Gonzalez and Crawford and all those guys.
- 40:29And then all of a sudden since then, they haven't missed the
- 40:31playoffs. It's just, yeah, it's kind of
- 40:32odd how it happened so fast and now you're seeing all these
- 40:34other big contracts. Yeah, it's going to add up over
- 40:36time. And it won't be surprising if
- 40:38it's maybe a Clipper situation. There might be some under the
- 40:41money under the table money, so. That's kind of happened when
- 40:44like with the royal here, with when Valley and then Valley went
- 40:48bankrupt, yeah. Valley was a lot of Midwest
- 40:51teams. Yeah, no shit.
- 40:53I'm here. This is where I live.
- 40:57So yeah, it kind of plays on both sides and it's just
- 41:01interesting that they, I guess, beat the market before it
- 41:06actually. Happened.
- 41:07It's not interesting. It's absolutely not interesting.
- 41:10It's it's pathetic. It is interesting.
- 41:12It's pathetic. It's.
- 41:13Pathetic. It's absolutely pathetic that
- 41:16baseball has allowed them to get away with.
- 41:18It it's interesting and corrupts Java.
- 41:19Let's yes, yeah, from the business.
- 41:22Side this take pisses me off even deeper.
- 41:26It really does it. Really.
- 41:27It's it's like, it's just this is how it's rigged.
- 41:31This is why they have all this extra money to play with because
- 41:35they're saving 66,000,000 every single season.
- 41:39It's absolutely out of control that they're allowing it, but
- 41:43they are and we'll see what happens with the next labour
- 41:45negotiation. But I don't know if it's
- 41:48grandfathered in like how did like how are you supposed to
- 41:50change that? I don't think you can.
- 41:53So. I mean, unless, you know, the
- 41:56the rest of the league goes well, then all of our deals need
- 41:58to look like that so that we're on a level playing field.
- 42:01And then you take money from all of us differently and they find
- 42:05a way to make it even. But it's going to be a pain in
- 42:08the ass to do it sounds like. And there may be a a work
- 42:11stoppage. There really might be for the
- 42:14first time in quite a while. So let's move on to this story
- 42:17that I've been actually trying to buy time by.
- 42:20Keep talking about this one with you guys because it's going on
- 42:23right now, right at the end of the game and it looks like
- 42:26they're not going to win. BYU is coming back against
- 42:30Arizona, but they get blocked at the hoop just now with about two
- 42:34seconds left. You got to.
- 42:36Follow BYU basketball right now because they have the number one
- 42:40pick in the draft, AJ Dabansa. He is fantastic.
- 42:45They for some reason didn't give it to him for this last play, I
- 42:49guess because he's a freshman and he got swatted.
- 42:52The guy gets swatted one inch from the hoop.
- 42:54Nice defensive play by the guy in Arizona, but the game before
- 42:58Dabansa put up a freshman record 43 points.
- 43:03If you haven't watched him play, it's like, I don't know how to
- 43:07compare him. I would say he's kind of reminds
- 43:09me of like Rudy Gay if he played like Dwyane Wade, you know what
- 43:14I mean? Like he has he's, he has the,
- 43:17the, the like, the the way that he looks is like how Rudy Gay
- 43:20looked in college. He was like a lanky, really
- 43:23long, but plays really good defenses just up in your face.
- 43:27Reminds me of Wade in that way. And offensively, this guy's
- 43:30putting up over 20 points every single game.
- 43:33He put up 43 against Utah. He had I think about 25 tonight.
- 43:38I just couldn't get the threes to drop.
- 43:40He's for real, man, and I think it's time we start paying
- 43:44attention to maybe a generational talent in the
- 43:49Bansa. Dial it up.
- 43:51First of all, he reminds me more of an Anthony Edwards.
- 43:54That's the type of player that he is.
- 43:55He's taller though, like by like a few inches.
- 43:58Yeah, but his game is like Anthony Edwards.
- 44:00He's acrobatic, he can shoot, he can do all those things.
- 44:03He can just awe you. But I don't know if he's the
- 44:06number one pick. I mean, Cam Boozer has been
- 44:08fantastic all season long. He's been as good as him And,
- 44:12and, and the kid from Kansas is pretty good too.
- 44:15Peterson, he's really good too. All three of those guys.
- 44:20Yeah, Peterson's a special player too.
- 44:22But I, I again, the kid looks great.
- 44:25BYU, obviously he chose BYU because he was the go to guy.
- 44:29BYU is going to get into the tournament because of this guy.
- 44:32He's got a great ability. I watched him three times so far
- 44:35this year. He's fun to watch.
- 44:37He's acrobatically fun. He can dunk.
- 44:39He's going to be a guy that's going to be in a dunking contest
- 44:42in the NBA his first or second year.
- 44:44He's that type of player. And wherever he goes, wherever
- 44:47is, if it's Portland OR the Nets or whoever gets that number one
- 44:50pick or maybe #2 because I still think Cam Boozer has been just
- 44:54as good, maybe even better this year all around.
- 44:56Cam could go a number one this year.
- 44:58So they're they're all I'm telling.
- 45:01You. I just think.
- 45:03The I'm going to tell you this right now.
- 45:05You mark my words, and I know basketball more than more than
- 45:08anybody on this show, Campbell. I'm out.
- 45:12Who knows more about basketball in the show?
- 45:15College basketball? I know more about college
- 45:17basketball than you. I definitely do.
- 45:19I wouldn't go that you. Want you want to have a little
- 45:22quiz trivia question? Let's go.
- 45:24I'll tell you this right now. I will tell.
- 45:26You next time we'll do college. I will tell you this right now.
- 45:30You can mark this. You can mark this.
- 45:32Cam Boozer is the best player in this draft.
- 45:35You can mark it wherever he goes.
- 45:36He's the best player in this world.
- 45:38Are you talking basketball wise or are you talking athletically
- 45:41wise? All around the best basketball.
- 45:43In this draft, AJ is way more athletic.
- 45:46Than Cambodia. We'll see.
- 45:48We'll see. So, so I I'm going to agree with
- 45:50Jabba as far as the athleticism where he may not be in the long
- 45:55run a better player. Look, it kind of reminds me, you
- 45:59know, you go back to the LeBron and Carmelo stuff and Carmelo
- 46:01was never the athlete LeBron was when they were coming out.
- 46:05And LeBron obviously surpassed him in all a bunch of other ways
- 46:08as well as a team player champion and things like that.
- 46:11But when they came out, if you remember back in the day, it was
- 46:15just, you know, LeBron was just a little bit more athletic and
- 46:18they had the same size otherwise, but.
- 46:21I I disagree, I've watched Cam Boozer all season long.
- 46:25I'm a Duke fan. I've watched Remember.
- 46:26Every single power, like a traditional power.
- 46:28Oh no, he's he could play small forward.
- 46:30Too. He's got that bat that can play
- 46:32front, he can ace up or he can play back to the bat.
- 46:34He's a good defender, Great. He is a good defender.
- 46:37He can play defend multiple position.
- 46:39He's very long. He's acrobatic.
- 46:41He's acrobatic. I've watched.
- 46:43Him so looks like freaking OG Anobi out on the wing.
- 46:46Dude, I'm gonna defense dad right now.
- 46:48It's crazy what he's doing on the perimeter, being a
- 46:51perimeter. We'll get him on a show.
- 46:53MBA get him on a show dude. It's far more important to be a
- 46:56good perimeter defender than to be in the post today.
- 46:59It's just how it is. The band says skill set.
- 47:02I'm hearing like it's a lock that he's number.
- 47:05One. Well, I think whoever picks
- 47:07number one is making a mistake. That's all I'm gonna say.
- 47:10And I'm not saying he's not good, but.
- 47:12They're getting a great player no matter.
- 47:15Yeah, 100%. I'm not a.
- 47:16Great year to be in the top. Yeah, dude, top three, top
- 47:20three, top 10. I think there's three like
- 47:23franchise. Dude, there is 10.
- 47:25I'm telling you this is the most in in draft history.
- 47:28Speedy and me. I've gotten people on the show
- 47:30before you guys or even a part. They told us 2026 is the year to
- 47:36stock up on draft picks. That's why the Nets have a ton
- 47:38of them. I'm telling you right now,
- 47:40they're. I'm sure we're going to get
- 47:42really into this in just a month when we get.
- 47:44There are 10 guys in this class 10, and you're just like 4
- 47:49European players too by the way. Let's get into the next story
- 47:52because this one is really kind of sentimental.
- 47:56And if you loved watching explosive point guards in the
- 48:00NBA, you loved watching Derrick Rose play for the Chicago Bulls.
- 48:06They finally got around to retiring his jersey.
- 48:09He's the fifth guy ever to have his jersey retired as a Bull.
- 48:14Obviously that's a high honor. We remember him.
- 48:19Unfortunately, you know, most of his career, second-half of the
- 48:23career, just not the same guy. After the bad knee injury,
- 48:27everyone watched it just blow out in the playoffs.
- 48:30Never never was the same one in MVP.
- 48:34Many people would argue probably didn't deserve that MVP, but
- 48:38disagree did win that MVP. This that most, most people
- 48:41thought that was like, they just didn't want to give it to LeBron
- 48:44again. But Derrick Rose obviously had a
- 48:49crazy High Peak with some of the most unbelievable hops and
- 48:55explosive movements that we've ever seen on a basketball court.
- 49:00Errol dial it up. First of all, Derrick Rose
- 49:04absolutely won the MVP that year.
- 49:05I disagree. LeBron is a great player, but he
- 49:08also played with Dwyane Wade that year.
- 49:10He plays with Chris Bosh. Who did he play with?
- 49:12Who did Derrick Rose play with? Jacquim Noah, all these other
- 49:17guys, these are secondary players on a team.
- 49:20This guy was the guy. He was the best point guard in
- 49:22the NBA for like 5 years before his knee blew out and then he
- 49:26came back. He still was in he somewhat of
- 49:29an elite player and then he blew out his knee again and then he
- 49:31was done and then he started getting moved around in his
- 49:34career. This guy absolutely should be
- 49:37respected as one of the best Chicago Bulls of all time.
- 49:40I don't he's not quite the Scottie Pippen Michael Jordan
- 49:45route any of those guys but or Dennis Rodman, but he is right
- 49:50after them. This guy has been the face of
- 49:53the Bulls for a significant amount of time.
- 49:55A special, special player. Very nice guy.
- 49:57I know he's had his background and stuff that he's done on and
- 50:00off the court. Maybe mental issues, but this
- 50:03guy's by and that's why he had those mental issues when this
- 50:06guy goes on and when he goes on the basketball court, one of the
- 50:08best ball handlers I've ever seen, one of the best dunkers
- 50:12I've ever seen at his size. He's not a big man and, and, and
- 50:15he almost won a national championship with Memphis.
- 50:18This guy's special and, and, and very well deserved
- 50:21Congratulations to Derrick Rose. I didn't even know that I love
- 50:24him. I I loved him on the Knicks.
- 50:25He wasn't a big Nick, but he he was a guy that I love to watch.
- 50:28Just fun to watch, right, Playing for my team and for the
- 50:31Chicago Bulls. Great, great story.
- 50:33Thank you. Yeah, it's good.
- 50:34It's good to see like you're looking at all the pressure for
- 50:36a lot of these guys post Jordan era too and obviously none of
- 50:40those guys all over Michael Jordan.
- 50:41But like Derrick Rose, was that high end prospect the best like
- 50:44player we've seen since then, really changed the explosiveness
- 50:47of the point guard position for a while with along with Russell
- 50:49Westbrook. And yeah, it's a shame what
- 50:51happened with a knee injury. He won an MVP, though he just
- 50:53again didn't have. Enough if he didn't blow his
- 50:55knee. Yeah, if he didn't blow his
- 50:57knee, Chicago definitely wins another title.
- 50:59The one that you guys forget about that didn't if he didn't
- 51:03have injuries, Brandon Roy, Brandon Roy would have been.
- 51:07AI completely agree with you on that.
- 51:09One Portland Trail Blazers. Yeah, we know.
- 51:11They knew when he was drafted that he had like no cartilage in
- 51:14the knee and that he was only going to last a handful of
- 51:16years. But he when he when he was still
- 51:18going, that was a great player, but not in the same way.
- 51:21And to me, like you know when you've watched.
- 51:24A guy he. Didn't get the chance.
- 51:26He didn't, and it wasn't fair, you know, sometimes it's not.
- 51:28Fair four years, he was good. Brandon Roy was good for four.
- 51:31Years, you know, but kind of interesting like they absolutely
- 51:34was good. He was like a 25 and five guy.
- 51:36He was he was really good. You know, like it's kind of very
- 51:40similar, but like in opposite ways where his athleticism was
- 51:44like never going to last. And then you had Derrick Rose's
- 51:46was like like he's like pushed. It's like 100, you know, every
- 51:50single second that he was out there and he just blew it out
- 51:53and round the same amount of time, you know, I would argue
- 51:58their peaks were so Oh, well, we got one more story, an arrow.
- 52:04This one is one of your favorites.
- 52:05Oh, how wonderful. This is one of the guys that I
- 52:09wouldn't say we emulate, but it's somebody that is very
- 52:12instructive to us on how this business works.
- 52:15It's your boy, Stephen A. Did you hear the snafu A Smith
- 52:21that he pulled this time? Oh, I bet you didn't, because
- 52:24who cares? But we're going to talk about it
- 52:26today because it's pretty embarrassing.
- 52:29Well, obviously the AFC championship game took place on
- 52:32Sunday and the Patriots faced the Broncos.
- 52:36Well, on Friday's episode of First Take, Stephen A tried to
- 52:39give credit to the defensive genius behind the efforts of the
- 52:45Patriots. Who was a guy named Terrell
- 52:48Williams? There's a brother coaching that
- 52:50defense. Terrell Williams.
- 52:51We ain't mentioned him all year long.
- 52:52Reunited Mike Vrabel. This man has done a hell of a
- 52:55job with the defense that's ranked top five in the National
- 52:57Football League. OK, so we going to give brothers
- 53:00credit on this show and that brother's doing his thing.
- 53:04It's a bit awkward, though, because Williams hasn't coached
- 53:08the team since Week 2. He's been out fighting prostate
- 53:13cancer. After that, hasn't been with the
- 53:16team at all. Inside linebackers coach Zach
- 53:18Kerr has been calling the Patriots defensive plays.
- 53:22And should be up for a job, by the way.
- 53:24Should definitely have some talk about it, but it's gets better
- 53:29because this is Stephen A we're talking about.
- 53:32When confronted with the fact that he had the snafu, Stephen A
- 53:38said nice try on X. First of all, we reported
- 53:41earlier in the year that he was out due to prostate cancer when
- 53:44it happened. Secondly, he still talks to
- 53:47coaches for game planning purposes.
- 53:48Thirdly, forgetting to mention all of that is different than
- 53:51not knowing. Plus, it really doesn't matter
- 53:54when I've got experts like Ryan Clark, Cam backing me up.
- 54:00Errol, dial it up. First of all, Cam Newton, Ryan
- 54:06Clark Experts. Experts in what?
- 54:10All right, Cam Newton, who doesn't even know his ass from
- 54:13his tailbone, and Ryan Clark that he dresses nice but says
- 54:17the dumbest things during the halves of any sports game I've
- 54:21ever seen. I remember Ryan Clark a couple
- 54:23of years ago. He tried to do broadcasting for
- 54:25basketball and how bad he was. I Ryan Clark is where he is
- 54:28because he played in the NFL and I don't want to hear Stephen A
- 54:31Smith saying he has experts. He kisses everybody's ass, but
- 54:34anybody that has any meaning towards the sport.
- 54:37How about Max Kellerman? Did he ever respect Max
- 54:39Kellerman, even though he calls him the man and he calls him
- 54:42something of of a genius when it comes to the boxing world, but
- 54:45then he attacks him the way he did and that's why Max Kellerman
- 54:47came and attacked him. Here's the facts here.
- 54:50If you're going to speak, actually know what you're
- 54:52talking about, Steve, because you're going to go out there and
- 54:55you're going to throw yourself out there on a big show because
- 54:58you made it a big show and you bring all your quote on quote
- 55:01smart guys. Why wasn't your smart guys
- 55:04actually stepping in and giving you that information?
- 55:07The reason why is they're not smart.
- 55:08They're idiots like you. That's why.
- 55:10The fact here is you don't know what you're talking about.
- 55:13You shouldn't be watching football.
- 55:14Stick to basketball. Stick to only basketball.
- 55:17I don't want to hear your MMA take.
- 55:19I don't want to hear your boxing take, your baseball take, your
- 55:21hockey take. You don't know crap.
- 55:23All you do is open your mouth and crap comes out of it and
- 55:27it's crappy and you're going to try to stick up for yourself and
- 55:30make up an an excuse. There is no excuse.
- 55:33You screwed up, admit you screwed up and move on.
- 55:35But you're Stephen A Smith and you don't want to be put on that
- 55:39pedestal of an idiot. So what you're going to do is
- 55:42you're going to flap jacket because that's who you are and
- 55:45make up all the crap that comes out of your mouth.
- 55:47It's a lie. Just tell the truth.
- 55:49You're screwed up, you're wrong, and that's it.
- 55:52In this world, it's like you don't always have to be right.
- 55:56It's OK to be wrong. I feel like like, and I'm
- 56:00learning, but it's like people have more sentiment and more
- 56:06like, yeah, my take was wrong. But like if you always come out
- 56:10and say you're right and you try to, you know, have your footnote
- 56:14and everything that you do when we wrote papers in college and
- 56:17all the other stuff, like make sure you footnote all your work
- 56:21and who you're giving credit. Like if we're wrong, we're
- 56:24wrong, that's OK. Like that's OK to be wrong.
- 56:28And I just feel like him sometimes he thinks he's in in
- 56:32in such a high leverage, which he is, and he has earned that
- 56:37from the basketball side. I will agree with that arrow
- 56:40because when he started talking about baseball, I wanted to
- 56:43vomit. But like if you just admit
- 56:46you're wrong, dog, like it's okay, like it's, it's just it's
- 56:50OK. Like your take was wrong or or
- 56:52something went off kilter. There's nothing wrong it.
- 56:55Was horrible. It's horribly.
- 56:57I didn't even know this, but to to to go around in a circle and
- 57:00try to make it an excuse just shows you how stupid you.
- 57:02Really, it's like ridiculous to me, and it's just kind of what
- 57:05we're seeing everywhere these days, these guys.
- 57:09He's not the same as he used to be.
- 57:12Like he used to cover the sport. He used to be a basketball guy.
- 57:16We saw him doing solitaire in the middle of the NBA Finals
- 57:21this year. He got caught.
- 57:23And guess what he did? He made a deal with some
- 57:26solitaire company to put his face on it, to profit off of it
- 57:30instead of even like having any kind of hubris, because that's
- 57:33how he is. There's no apologies.
- 57:36Why should he apologize? It's not, it's not about the
- 57:40sports. It's about him.
- 57:41He's giving political takes on like on, on, on shows that like
- 57:46that. Who wants to hear his political
- 57:48takes? I don't even want to hear his
- 57:49sports takes. I don't.
- 57:51I definitely don't want to hear his freaking political takes.
- 57:54Get the heck out of here, man. I don't even want your takes on
- 57:56solitaire. I bet you're not even any good
- 57:58at that either. I have a lot of respect for
- 58:01Steven for all the success he's had, but and you have to look up
- 58:04to somebody like that. And I want people to understand
- 58:07that I don't hate Stephen A Smith as much as you think that
- 58:09I do. Just like I don't hate Steph
- 58:11Curry and I don't hate this guy and that guy.
- 58:13It's part. It's just who I am.
- 58:16But when somebody comes out there and can't admit I, even me
- 58:19as a personality, a strong personality, when I'm wrong, I'm
- 58:22wrong. I'll come out and say I'm wrong.
- 58:24I'm not going to beat around a Bush and say, well, I didn't say
- 58:26that, but or I have experts. I, you don't go out there and
- 58:31tell me that Ryan Clark and Cam Newton are experts.
- 58:33They're not experts. Those two guys are far from
- 58:37expert experts. The only reason why they're
- 58:39experts is because you brought them on your show and you say
- 58:41they are. They're not.
- 58:42If you learn from your mistakes so you're never wrong, then
- 58:46you've stopped learning. Yeah, right.
- 58:49And you can never admit that you're wrong.
- 58:52That was kind of my point. It's like we're OK to be wrong.
- 58:55Like, yeah, I mean like as Snug says, like he has a great
- 58:59marketing team, but two-part of your marketing team is like when
- 59:02we fail, like own up to it because that gives a realness in
- 59:06in kind of what we talked about with Jake and how that like
- 59:11they're real people. Like and everybody looks at us
- 59:15on TV and whatever and professional athletes, we're
- 59:19still human beings. We eat, sleep and do the same
- 59:23thing everybody else. Does it just annoys me?
- 59:26Just admit when you're wrong, it's OK.
- 59:28It just annoys me. It annoys me that he doesn't
- 59:32have an understanding of just being a man and and admitting
- 59:36anything that he does is wrong. It's it's, it's bad, it's bad.
- 59:40But guess what? ESPN has everything behind him
- 59:43and they're going to ride and die with him.
- 59:44So unfortunately, that's what they do and that's what they're
- 59:48going to do moving forward. Thank you to all the fans on all
- 59:50the platforms from Spotify and Apple, TikTok, Instagram X
- 59:56YouTube, Jabba in the mouth and all the different platforms that
- 59:59we're on. We really appreciate you guys
- 1:00:01and stay tuned for some great shows this year and great
- 1:00:05opportunities to see what we're going to be doing.
- 1:00:07And, and I believe sometime this year we're going to be
- 1:00:10positioned into maybe a huge announcement.
- 1:00:14So just looking forward to a great year and I hope everybody
- 1:00:18enjoys our show. We put a lot of time and effort
- 1:00:20and work into this and. It's not you're just going to
- 1:00:23throw slop on the and hopefully it sticks.
- 1:00:25It's not like that. This show is not like that.
- 1:00:27It's hard work, dedication, all the guys, speedy and fish and
- 1:00:32all the guys that work on the back end to help this show
- 1:00:35really, you know, become something of not only just, you
- 1:00:39know, I believe one of the best shows in America, but one of the
- 1:00:43shows that I think people are copycatting and and trying to
- 1:00:47make their own, which is pathetic.
- 1:00:49And, and you know who I'm talking about?
- 1:00:51I don't even have to mention it. All you people out there that
- 1:00:54are trying to copycat us because you're just shamefully shameful
- 1:00:59enough to know that you have no create, create creativity,
- 1:01:05ability to go out there and and put the the time and effort into
- 1:01:08working and figuring out how you could be yourselves.
- 1:01:11So that's all I'm going to say. I almost stuttered on that, but
- 1:01:14that's it for our show. Speedy, who do we have on
- 1:01:16tomorrow, Thursday? Time to be determined.
- 1:01:17Still on, but he is coming. Come on.
- 1:01:19He just converted two hours ago. He's be good to go.
- 1:01:21Our friend Mr. Foyer, Luke and Jaguars.
- 1:01:23Line all right, Foyer is going to be joining us.
- 1:01:25We'll talk about the Jaguars, their season.
- 1:01:27Obviously, you know Travis Hunter, the Gremlin, you know,
- 1:01:32his quarterback that's had a pretty good second-half of the
- 1:01:34season. So a lot to get into it with
- 1:01:36Foyer. I'm sure he's going to laugh as
- 1:01:38he always does when he comes on the show.
- 1:01:40All right, that's it for our show.
- 1:01:41Ladies and gentlemen, we'll see you Thursday.
- 1:01:43Goodnight. You're listening to the
- 1:01:45Worldwide Sports Radio Network.
