- 0:23Speaker 2: Welcome to Girl's Gun Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:25Speaker 2: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm Wendy and I'm a former Hallmark hater. Guys, you
- 0:32Speaker 1: have to listen to our episode of Missing the Boat
- 0:36Speaker 1: to hear that deep dive to understand the tone in
- 0:39Speaker 1: my voice.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Are you mad at me?
- 0:41Speaker 1: No? Be sure? Yes, No, I'm not mad at all. No.
- 0:45Speaker 2: On today's episode, we're kicking off a month of Hallmark
- 0:47Speaker 2: Hall of Fame reviews with the Magic of Ordinary Days,
- 0:51Speaker 2: which originally premiered in two thousand and five, but it
- 0:54Speaker 2: is currently available to stream on Hallmark Plus. Should we
- 0:58Speaker 2: really quickly just run down the movies that we're talking
- 1:01Speaker 2: about this month.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 2: They are hosted on our Instagram, which is of course
- 1:05Speaker 2: Girls Gone Hallmark as well as we are doing a
- 1:09Speaker 2: lineup of Valentine throwback movies as well. You can check
- 1:13Speaker 2: those out. But here's what we have coming this month
- 1:16Speaker 2: from Hallmark Hall of Fame. Obviously, today we're doing Magic
- 1:20Speaker 2: Ordinary Days. Next Wednesday is Follow the Stars Home, followed
- 1:25Speaker 2: by In My Dreams followed by Remember Sundays.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm excited actually me too. If you're not part
- 1:34Speaker 1: of our Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group. It is those
- 1:38Speaker 1: members in the Facebook group who suggested these movies, and
- 1:41Speaker 1: we just picked from the suggestions. So come join there, yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and be a part of the decision making.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you get some behind the scenes action over there
- 1:49Speaker 2: and Girls Gone Hallmark on Facebook when we announced the
- 1:52Speaker 2: movies that we were doing.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, listener, Aaron responded in our Instagram comments, she said, oof,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I can't wait to hear Wendy's thoughts on the magic
- 2:02Speaker 1: of Ordinary Days. It's a hard watch. I'm excited to
- 2:04Speaker 1: hear the last two reviews though, And I just thought,
- 2:08Speaker 1: you know, challenge accepted. Because I'm like, you know, I'm
- 2:12Speaker 1: a former hallmarketer. I have an appreciation for these movies.
- 2:17Speaker 1: This one was a.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Double whammy though, because it's a little bit of a
- 2:19Speaker 2: period piece.
- 2:20Speaker 1: It's a period of piece which I I'm not typically
- 2:23Speaker 1: drawn to. And what's the other double whammy of it all?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Well, just if you're talking about you being a hallmarketer,
- 2:30Speaker 2: that's all I mean.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I might surprise some of you. I
- 2:34Speaker 1: really like buckled down and took the assignment to heart.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So I'm excited to talk about it me too. Let's
- 2:41Speaker 1: hear a synopsis. Pregnant out of Wedlock, an educated young
- 2:45Speaker 1: woman is pressured by her father into an arranged marriage
- 2:48Speaker 1: with a lonely farmer in this drama set during WW two.
- 2:53Speaker 2: This was directed by Brent Shields. He has just five
- 2:55Speaker 2: directing credits, and every single one is a Hallmark Hall
- 2:58Speaker 2: of Fame movie, Rango, Cuban and Kate Brush with Fate,
- 3:02Speaker 2: The Valley of Light, and the Magic of Ordinary Days.
- 3:06Speaker 2: He also has an extensive producing resume with tons of
- 3:09Speaker 2: Hallmark title.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Tons like his IMDb was like all extensive, all Hallmark movies, yes,
- 3:16Speaker 1: like even recently too. Writing credits go to Anne Howard
- 3:20Speaker 1: Kreele and Camille Thomasin. Kreole wrote the original novel in
- 3:24Speaker 1: two thousand and one, and Thomasin adapted it for television.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Kamille Thomasin has fifteen writing credits, many of them Hallmark
- 3:31Speaker 1: Hall of Fame films. Plus fun Throwback a nineteen eighty
- 3:35Speaker 1: ABC after school special called a Family Again, starring a
- 3:39Speaker 1: very young Ricky Lake.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I used to love those after school specials. Carrie Russell
- 3:44Speaker 2: stars as Livy Dunn. She has more than forty acting credits.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And is best known for Felicity, The Americans, and The Diplomat.
- 3:50Speaker 2: This movie came about three years after Felicity wrapped.
- 3:54Speaker 1: While you were watching, were you curious, like, wait, timeline
- 3:57Speaker 1: the timeline, I mean.
- 3:58Speaker 2: It has it gives me Carrie Russell circa Felicity vibes.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I was wondering because if you're not familiar with
- 4:07Speaker 1: the show, Felicity like a huge pop culture moment was
- 4:11Speaker 1: Carrie Russell cut all her gorgeous curly locks off and
- 4:14Speaker 1: I think that was season.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Two of the show and then it has it's grown
- 4:18Speaker 2: back by now. Yeah, So I was like, okay, where
- 4:20Speaker 2: are we here? Was this like pre Felicity.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Pre season one Felicity, Like where where were is this
- 4:27Speaker 1: a wig? Like? Where? I didn't know. By the end
- 4:30Speaker 1: of Felicity her hair was quite long again, Yeah, quite
- 4:33Speaker 1: long again, but long anyway. Also, I'm a huge Carry
- 4:36Speaker 1: Russell fan. If you're not watching The Diplomat, you are
- 4:38Speaker 1: missing out so good. Skate Ulrich plays Ray Singleton. His
- 4:43Speaker 1: resume runs deep from the Craft and Scream to as
- 4:48Speaker 1: Good as It Gets on TV. He has led Jericho
- 4:51Speaker 1: and later a long run as F. P. Jones on Riverdale.
- 4:55Speaker 2: May Waitningham plays Ray's sister Martha. She's an Oscar nominee
- 4:58Speaker 2: and Emmy winner, and has appeared in over one hundred
- 5:01Speaker 2: film and TV projects. She's often associated with the original
- 5:05Speaker 2: brat Pack era and most recently appeared in Hulu's Dope Sick.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Gwendolen Yo plays Rose. She's best known for her extensive
- 5:13Speaker 1: voice acting work in animation and video games, along with
- 5:16Speaker 1: on screen roles in American Girl, Ivy and Julie and
- 5:20Speaker 1: the miniseriies Broken Trail.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Tanya Gunadi plays Flory. She's known for her voice work,
- 5:25Speaker 2: her role on Disney x d's Aaron Stone, and a
- 5:28Speaker 2: previous Hallmark appearance in Snowbride.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Fy I Snowbride is great. Are you wondering? Do you
- 5:35Speaker 1: remember we reviewed it recently? Yeah? I remember, such a
- 5:38Speaker 1: good movie. I loved it. Jane McGregor plays Livy's sister Abby.
- 5:43Speaker 1: She's appeared in Snow Piercer and Hallmark's Matchmaker Mysteries, and
- 5:47Speaker 1: in a twenty fourteen episode of Signed Sealed Delivered the
- 5:51Speaker 1: season just before it transitioned into Movies, Got It.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Eric Winter appears as Walter. This was an early role
- 5:58Speaker 2: for him. He later appeared in more than five four
- 6:00Speaker 2: hundred episodes of Days of Our Lives as Rex Brady,
- 6:03Speaker 2: and most recently in over one hundred thirty episodes of
- 6:06Speaker 2: The Rookie.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Identical twins Jacqueline Robbins and Joyce Robbins play Missus Pratt
- 6:11Speaker 1: and Missus Parker. They've appeared together in projects like a
- 6:15Speaker 1: Series of Unfortunate Events and The wickermand often cast specifically
- 6:20Speaker 1: because they're twins.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Supporting roles include Steven Strahan as brother in law Hank
- 6:25Speaker 2: and Katie Keating as Ruth.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Both the film and Carrie Russell were nominated for Satellite
- 6:30Speaker 1: Awards in two thousand and five for Outstanding Motion Picture
- 6:33Speaker 1: and Outstanding Actress in a Mini Series.
- 6:36Speaker 2: We're about to Blow your Mind. This movie drew in
- 6:38Speaker 2: eighteen point seven million viewers when it aired on CBS
- 6:42Speaker 2: in January two thousand and five.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Like, guys, I had a fact check that those were
- 6:45Speaker 1: the days. I was like, what, that's like super Bowl numbers.
- 6:48Speaker 1: It feels like like I know what because Hamewark. Now,
- 6:52Speaker 1: just like it's a win if they draw in one
- 6:54Speaker 1: million viewers, yes, eighteen million viewers.
- 6:58Speaker 2: What googled how many people watch the finale? Of friends
- 7:02Speaker 2: fifty two point five million. Oh my gosh, wows.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe more different back then the most.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Recent Super Bowl in twenty twenty five. Guess how many
- 7:12Speaker 2: of yours? Forty million, one hundred and twenty seven million.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Wow, wowow wild.
- 7:19Speaker 2: OKAYY just had to know We're gonna take a quick
- 7:22Speaker 2: break and come right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy,
- 7:33Speaker 2: what is your first impression of the magic of ordinary days?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Well, and I expected to endure it, and instead it
- 7:39Speaker 1: emotionally drop kicked me. I cried, did you? I cried?
- 7:45Speaker 2: My first impression is the Hallmark Hall of Fame bar
- 7:48Speaker 2: has been set very high.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I wonder if, like people think this is the best.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Of the best. I have to assume it's.
- 7:55Speaker 1: One of I mean, I just recently wrote a Hallmark
- 7:57Speaker 1: Hall of Fame post for our website, Girls Not homemarkt
- 8:01Speaker 1: and Homer Qulli Flame goes back many, many, many, many
- 8:05Speaker 1: many years. So you know, when we ask in our
- 8:08Speaker 1: Facebook group like, oh, what's your favorite? This one came
- 8:12Speaker 1: up a lot, and I just wonder if it because
- 8:14Speaker 1: it's had a lot of exposure.
- 8:15Speaker 2: M Well, let's talk what we liked. I think it
- 8:20Speaker 2: would be easy to call this movie slow, especially in
- 8:23Speaker 2: the beginning, but I think it was an excellent choice
- 8:26Speaker 2: to take that time to show Livy's new life, to
- 8:30Speaker 2: show what a shock it must have been to her,
- 8:34Speaker 2: to show the awkwardness in meeting her husband just moments
- 8:38Speaker 2: before she marries him. It's almost like it's happening in
- 8:41Speaker 2: real time and we're meeting him at the same time
- 8:43Speaker 2: Livy is meeting him, and I think it's very powerful.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I wasn't wishing those moments away.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I agree with you. I liked the slow, intentional storytelling.
- 8:56Speaker 1: We don't get a lot of TV like that these days,
- 8:58Speaker 1: you know. It's very much like so many things are
- 9:01Speaker 1: made for binging.
- 9:02Speaker 2: It's like down to Abbey.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, a show I don't watch or ever have watched.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Is it told in this kind of man A little
- 9:11Speaker 1: slowers as well, more life. It's not flashy, it's not action,
- 9:16Speaker 1: it's not I still don't think I'm watching that, but
- 9:19Speaker 1: but but I did. I did like this. I like
- 9:22Speaker 1: this a lot, And while I was watching this, it
- 9:25Speaker 1: did kind of like trigger some memories of like I
- 9:28Speaker 1: think I watched these kind of movies when not in
- 9:31Speaker 1: two thousand and five, but like maybe older one. Sure,
- 9:35Speaker 1: when I was in high school, like in the like
- 9:38Speaker 1: mid nineties, I probably tuned into these movie of the weeks.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah, for me as a teenager of the nineties, I
- 9:48Speaker 2: loved this casting young Carrie Russell. I think she has
- 9:51Speaker 2: exactly the right sort of fragile, timeless face.
- 9:54Speaker 1: For this role. It's like a dull she is.
- 9:58Speaker 2: And this was a really interesting casting choice for me.
- 10:01Speaker 2: In terms of the role of Skeet Ulrich. It's just
- 10:04Speaker 2: a departure I for me, his character and scream is
- 10:07Speaker 2: kind of the touchtone.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I have for him. Mm hmm.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I feel like he plays like kind of like a rougher,
- 10:11Speaker 2: dirtier rebel of a character, and here it's very different.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And I agree.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I mean, I was a big fan of him as
- 10:22Speaker 2: right in this movie.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you. I love the way that
- 10:26Speaker 1: Carrie Russell portrays Livy, and I really I thought the
- 10:29Speaker 1: character of Livy was really interesting because she's this smart, educated,
- 10:34Speaker 1: emotionally complicated woman. She's trying to grieve this life that
- 10:39Speaker 1: like she had or thought she would have. I can't
- 10:43Speaker 1: I'm putting myself back in this timeframe. I'm like, can
- 10:45Speaker 1: you imagine your family being like well, I'm gonna send
- 10:50Speaker 1: you away, and now you have to go marry somebody,
- 10:53Speaker 1: because you've brought such shame onto us that you got
- 10:56Speaker 1: pregnant that you've never met.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Like, imagine sending your daughter to a she's never met,
- 11:01Speaker 2: Like that's.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Worse to me.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Fine, you don't he doesn't.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Know what.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Her No, that whatever the outcome was, was okay because
- 11:12Speaker 2: they weren't gonna have to endure the shame of her
- 11:14Speaker 2: being unmarried and a mother wild.
- 11:17Speaker 1: So wild, And I thought the character of Livy was
- 11:21Speaker 1: really I was glad that she didn't turn into some
- 11:24Speaker 1: sort of like murder or like damsel in distress, because
- 11:29Speaker 1: she was kind of a fish out of water here,
- 11:31Speaker 1: Like it didn't even lean that way. No, I mean
- 11:34Speaker 1: she was inquisitive about like farm life.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and she can't cook, which I think is a nice.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Like right, That was interesting to watch, and I enjoyed
- 11:43Speaker 1: that the character of Ray, you know, it was like
- 11:47Speaker 1: up and down with me. Some of his behavior does
- 11:50Speaker 1: show up in my wishes and I will talk about
- 11:52Speaker 1: it then, But I did like in this movie, like
- 11:54Speaker 1: you always knew what Ray was feeling like, even if
- 11:58Speaker 1: he wasn't communicating it like it was he was kind
- 12:01Speaker 1: of a simple man, right, and he was doing what
- 12:05Speaker 1: was asked of him. And that's all I'm gonna say
- 12:07Speaker 1: for now. I will get to more and my wishes
- 12:09Speaker 1: about him.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Well, I think the title of this movie is very appropriate.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I think it does say it best. She does ultimately
- 12:16Speaker 2: end up finding the magic in the ordinary. She ends
- 12:19Speaker 2: up finding like you said, she's not a martyr. She's
- 12:22Speaker 2: not resigning herself to this life. She finds a way
- 12:26Speaker 2: to really love it. And I like that Ray comes
- 12:29Speaker 2: around to finding a way to make this life.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Work for her.
- 12:32Speaker 2: It's not just let's slot Livy into this farm life
- 12:34Speaker 2: and see, I'll do whatever it takes so that you
- 12:38Speaker 2: can be the person that you know yourself to be
- 12:40Speaker 2: as well, and will mold our family around that. I
- 12:44Speaker 2: thought that was really nice.
- 12:46Speaker 1: So to counter that for a second, I want to
- 12:49Speaker 1: push back. I don't. I don't truly believe that Livy
- 12:53Speaker 1: like learned to love like the ordinary day you do
- 12:57Speaker 1: this farm now. I think she accepted it because because
- 13:00Speaker 1: it was the only thing available to her, or because
- 13:02Speaker 1: she came to love Ray. I also, maybe hot take,
- 13:06Speaker 1: don't think she loved Ray. She was not in love
- 13:10Speaker 1: with Ray. You don't think she got there. No, I
- 13:12Speaker 1: think she respected him and saw that he was like
- 13:15Speaker 1: a stand up dude and could appreciate that, especially on
- 13:20Speaker 1: the tail end of having like the actual father of
- 13:24Speaker 1: her child be like man, Yeah, for sure.
- 13:28Speaker 2: So I think do you think she doesn't love him
- 13:31Speaker 2: because you don't like that seems too convenient or do
- 13:34Speaker 2: you think the movie's not telling us that both. That's intestative,
- 13:38Speaker 2: because there was never any Like to me, there was
- 13:42Speaker 2: moments like when they were at that family dinner and
- 13:46Speaker 2: she had been complaining to her sister pat like all
- 13:48Speaker 2: I ever talked about is like far me in the weather,
- 13:51Speaker 2: and that came up, and then Ray turned the conversation
- 13:57Speaker 2: to Livvy about like archaeology or something like that, Like
- 14:00Speaker 2: he brought it up right, And I saw in that
- 14:02Speaker 2: moment she was like, Oh, I could be attracted to
- 14:05Speaker 2: you because of that, Yes, But other than that, I
- 14:10Speaker 2: don't think there was any ever, Like she didn't feel
- 14:13Speaker 2: swoony over him. Yeah, maybe not.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I think she felt safe with him. She saw that
- 14:19Speaker 1: he was a good guy, like when she pushed back
- 14:22Speaker 1: to on her sister when the sister was like, oh,
- 14:24Speaker 1: you can leave and just say like he was not nice.
- 14:27Speaker 1: She's like, yea, I'm not going to do that to him. Yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 1: deserve that exactly. Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I think also two thousand and five doesn't seem like
- 14:33Speaker 2: the Dark Ages in terms of progressive thinking, but it
- 14:36Speaker 2: was twenty one years ago, and so I think they're
- 14:39Speaker 2: telling us the story that while maybe they didn't have
- 14:42Speaker 2: this like crashing swoony love, that she does come to
- 14:45Speaker 2: love him. But I think for you and I, women
- 14:49Speaker 2: of a certain age who like have a realistic view
- 14:52Speaker 2: of love maybe were like, maybe she just realized, like
- 14:56Speaker 2: this was better than the life she had at with
- 15:00Speaker 2: the father who sent her away. Yeah, better than being
- 15:03Speaker 2: on her own, right, Yeah, maybe all right.
- 15:06Speaker 1: The Japanese internment camp storyline was devastating. Yeah to me,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I'm obviously aware of the reality that that existed, but
- 15:18Speaker 1: it feels especially heavy right now. Yeah, And I'm I'm
- 15:23Speaker 1: actually glad because I did read a lot of IMDb reviews.
- 15:27Speaker 1: There's so many, there's like nearly one hundred reviews from
- 15:30Speaker 1: movies rated pretty high on IMDb. Yeah, but people were like, oh,
- 15:34Speaker 1: they didn't need that part of the storyline, and I
- 15:36Speaker 1: just thought, like, I thought it was handled really well.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I appreciated that they didn't shy away from it. Was
- 15:43Speaker 1: it one hundred percent realistic? I don't know, because I
- 15:46Speaker 1: don't know.
- 15:46Speaker 2: If Yeah, would they have been able to come and
- 15:48Speaker 2: go as freely as they were, I don't have the
- 15:50Speaker 2: big question for me. Yeah, I thought it was a
- 15:52Speaker 2: really nice choice to choose to shine a light on that.
- 15:54Speaker 2: And I think from the other perspective, if you had
- 15:58Speaker 2: been talking about farm life during World War Too in
- 16:00Speaker 2: this particular area, would it have been a complete miss
- 16:04Speaker 2: to not include that because that was the reality of
- 16:07Speaker 2: farm life during that time. I think it's a really
- 16:10Speaker 2: interesting choice, kind of progressive for that time to shine
- 16:14Speaker 2: that light. And I liked the added like drama of
- 16:17Speaker 2: the German soldier towards the end, and.
- 16:20Speaker 1: That's said, my did you see that's we can't talk
- 16:22Speaker 1: about it? Hare?
- 16:22Speaker 2: Yeah, she sells them out.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that was great to go. Livy thought that was great. Yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I like the choice that Livy was like this educated woman,
- 16:31Speaker 2: and because she was educated, she was forward thinking, and
- 16:35Speaker 2: she was progressive, and she was accepting, and she had
- 16:38Speaker 2: these views of the world that a lot of the
- 16:40Speaker 2: people both on the farm and in town didn't share,
- 16:45Speaker 2: and so she was able to bring them forward a
- 16:48Speaker 2: little bit, or at the very least be an example.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah. My last like is I said I cried earlier.
- 16:55Speaker 1: This is when I cried when empty inn they named
- 16:58Speaker 1: the baby Daniel. You just see the blanket and says
- 17:01Speaker 1: Daniel want it. I just I don't know. That's his brother,
- 17:04Speaker 1: that was his brother who died. Yeah. I loved it.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I mean like she didn't have to name that baby Daniel. No,
- 17:10Speaker 1: but I just yeah, I like that a lot. I
- 17:12Speaker 1: too little likes.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I just like the choice to make the father the
- 17:15Speaker 2: baby a real douchebag rather than a competing love interest.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Baby, it's hard breaking that Libby went through that, but
- 17:20Speaker 2: I think it solidifies her choice to stick with Ray.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 2: And finally, I enjoyed the comedy of her lighting raised
- 17:26Speaker 2: mouth on fire with her Fiesta omelet, which she's.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Like, may I put to me jalapenos in it, and
- 17:32Speaker 1: to me it looked like it was just like a
- 17:33Speaker 1: bird bell peppery.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I was like, I mean those are can be spicy,
- 17:38Speaker 1: but not no, not your mouth on fire.
- 17:40Speaker 2: So like, when you think about it, I think that
- 17:43Speaker 2: kind of is like a you know, farm food probably
- 17:45Speaker 2: was not all that totally icy.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yeah, real white people. It's so funny, Like I'm gonna
- 17:50Speaker 1: go to the library and get a cookbook, I know. Okay,
- 17:55Speaker 1: the luxuries of the internet to just look up something
- 17:58Speaker 1: these days. Yeah, yeah, okay, let's talk wishes, do it.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I kind of touched on this before. I needed more
- 18:05Speaker 1: that Livvy and Ray meet in the middle. It's clear, Okay,
- 18:10Speaker 1: Obviously it's an arranged marriage born out of circumstance, right,
- 18:14Speaker 1: and not love. Obviously. I needed a bigger shift from Livy,
- 18:19Speaker 1: like I needed to see like where she goes. Oh,
- 18:23Speaker 1: I am kind of in love with him.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah, there's enough time devoted to that.
- 18:27Speaker 1: There is not like we never see him see her
- 18:29Speaker 1: like truly falling for him. So I just don't know
- 18:35Speaker 1: where to sit with that. I think I think any
- 18:38Speaker 1: any different viewer could come away with like a different
- 18:41Speaker 1: point of view on it, like it wasn't so blatantly
- 18:44Speaker 1: obvious like they were in love or they were not
- 18:48Speaker 1: or whatever. My second wish is I struggled with parts
- 18:53Speaker 1: of Ray's behavior at time, especially the dog situation. Oh yeah,
- 18:58Speaker 1: you and I are dog lovers? Are dog are in
- 19:00Speaker 1: the house?
- 19:01Speaker 2: For sure?
- 19:02Speaker 1: I don't I don't know if this was like a
- 19:04Speaker 1: cultural thing or a time thing. I mean he talks
- 19:08Speaker 1: about how I was like disrespectful to bring him the
- 19:10Speaker 1: animal in the house and that animal could be out
- 19:12Speaker 1: in the barn.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I mean he's mad about the letter when he comes
- 19:15Speaker 2: in about the hio. So yes, and then I didn't.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Love that either.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I'm like, let the dog be in the house. I
- 19:21Speaker 2: was at least happy when I realized they were putting
- 19:22Speaker 2: it in the barn and not making it like go
- 19:24Speaker 2: sleep on the porch, because like it's it's.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Cold out there.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Right, it's the dog in the house, right, Especially as
- 19:29Speaker 2: a farmer, I mean maybe you do have to have
- 19:31Speaker 2: that disconnect between like the animals that live with you
- 19:35Speaker 2: as a farmer, but you know that's their pet. I
- 19:38Speaker 2: didn't love that either. That really rubbed me the wrong way.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I didn't love that. Ray came in like so hot
- 19:44Speaker 1: about Livy getting a letter from the other dude, because
- 19:49Speaker 1: he's reacting like she's cheated on him. This was an
- 19:54Speaker 1: arranged marriage, Like he knows, like she's carrying the baby
- 19:58Speaker 1: from some other guy.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Also communicating with him.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I get that. I get that, but.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Yeah, there should be yes. I hear what you're saying, Like,
- 20:09Speaker 2: why are we still talking to him if you're married
- 20:11Speaker 2: to me? Like if I'm going to raise this baby.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Yes I get that, but she was sent there. She
- 20:17Speaker 1: would like that circle wasn't closed. Yeah you know? Yeah? Yeah?
- 20:22Speaker 1: What else did you not.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Like about Ray? This is this again? Is my like
- 20:27Speaker 2: just wrinkled a little bit when she's like, what am
- 20:30Speaker 2: I supposed to do? And he's like, well, you'll keep
- 20:32Speaker 2: the house. And I was like, I have really mixed
- 20:35Speaker 2: feelings on one. That's the life Ray knows. Yeah, that
- 20:38Speaker 2: is what she's going to do. That is what the
- 20:40Speaker 2: women do. And I appreciated he was really open to her,
- 20:45Speaker 2: like I'll take you to the library. When she gets
- 20:48Speaker 2: mad about him burning the stuff, he solves the problem,
- 20:50Speaker 2: Like he was open to change. But my initial reaction
- 20:54Speaker 2: to him being like, well you'll keep the house, I
- 20:55Speaker 2: was like, WHOA, No, I won't.
- 20:59Speaker 1: But but yeah she will, she will.
- 21:02Speaker 2: This is a woman who was sent away because she
- 21:04Speaker 2: was pregnant, so yeah, that probably is what she'll do.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Talk did you see that?
- 21:07Speaker 1: No, I have two more wishes.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Oh I didn't know that.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Sorry. There was a weird line at the beginning when
- 21:13Speaker 1: Ray and Livy me, and he says something like you're fine,
- 21:18Speaker 1: like I can't believe you're in this situation or something
- 21:20Speaker 1: like that, and fine read to me as not language
- 21:25Speaker 1: that would come from a World War two farmer, like fine,
- 21:30Speaker 1: when you're describing somebody as a teenager of the nineties
- 21:33Speaker 1: is like flowing, Yeah, exactly.
- 21:37Speaker 2: But don't you think he's coming at it from like
- 21:39Speaker 2: the fine like China, Like, oh, perhaps I think that's
- 21:42Speaker 2: where they were coming yeah, yeah, And then just a
- 21:45Speaker 2: pet peeve.
- 21:46Speaker 1: It was a constant struggle between me and the remote
- 21:49Speaker 1: control because the music was super loud in this and
- 21:53Speaker 1: the dialogue was super quiet, so I was like, turn
- 21:55Speaker 1: it up, turn it down, turn it up, turn it down.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Drove me crazy.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I leaned heavily on captions in this movie. Same let's talk.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Did you see that? Okay?
- 22:04Speaker 2: I have one that I stole from IMDb that I
- 22:07Speaker 2: went back and found, and everything else is just things
- 22:09Speaker 2: I want to talk about. Okay, here's the one real.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Did you see that? When the main characters are pulling
- 22:14Speaker 2: into the barn dance Liviyan Ray, thank you, you can
- 22:17Speaker 2: see a modern white minivan sticking out from behind the
- 22:20Speaker 2: barn and I went back and looked.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I mean, it's like not.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Even if you could see the whole thing, it's it's
- 22:24Speaker 2: there for seconds. I love it.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I love all these old cars.
- 22:29Speaker 2: And there's like a transport man back there.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Craft services ban which spot.
- 22:36Speaker 2: A couple of little things.
- 22:38Speaker 1: The claw was so stressful. I was like, somebody's going
- 22:41Speaker 1: to die, Like.
- 22:42Speaker 2: One of those boys is gonna die.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought so too. I thought so too, absolutely thought.
- 22:46Speaker 2: But they had this like whimsical music playing in the background.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I was like, well, something's probably not going to happen
- 22:50Speaker 2: with that. But I was like, good lord, how does
- 22:53Speaker 2: this man run a farm and not know how to
- 22:54Speaker 2: use his equipment?
- 22:55Speaker 1: Yeah, kept tipping back. It was scary. Uh huh.
- 22:58Speaker 2: And then two lines that I liked. Okay, Ray says,
- 23:01Speaker 2: is there anything you like about me?
- 23:03Speaker 1: Livy? And I oh, hearts yeah.
- 23:05Speaker 2: And then she answer was no. She says, how do
- 23:09Speaker 2: you know this could work? And he says, I know
- 23:11Speaker 2: because someday you're going to forgive yourself.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Oh that's a great line. Yeah, my, did you see
- 23:17Speaker 1: that's what? Livy has? This pale peach dress that has
- 23:19Speaker 1: a dog print on it. I thought it was very
- 23:21Speaker 1: charming and cute.
- 23:22Speaker 2: I liked Actually her wardrobe I liked it too.
- 23:26Speaker 1: We talked about it briefly. But the German Pow storyline
- 23:30Speaker 1: I thought was really good at the end of bringing
- 23:33Speaker 1: in like some tension there and I really liked because
- 23:36Speaker 1: I didn't really see where it was going, but Livy
- 23:39Speaker 1: had figured it on. She's like, what did he promise you?
- 23:42Speaker 1: You're going to be in big trouble? Gtfo out of
- 23:45Speaker 1: the car and like burn the evidence does all the
- 23:48Speaker 1: like takes you know, she sets him up, puts the
- 23:51Speaker 1: key down, taps it like yo here, like you know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: implants the idea in his head, gets rid of the
- 23:57Speaker 1: gas tank. Like I loved all of that. Thought that
- 24:00Speaker 1: was at it. It was necessary. Yeah, uh huh yeah
- 24:03Speaker 1: yeah yeah. And then my last side, you see that
- 24:06Speaker 1: is just reflection, Like this is not escapism what we
- 24:12Speaker 1: know Hallmark today. As I came away thinking like this
- 24:17Speaker 1: is sad and reflective, and I felt very empathetic to
- 24:22Speaker 1: the characters, and it made me wish that Hallmark still
- 24:26Speaker 1: made it at least just like one movie like this
- 24:28Speaker 1: a year, Just one and make it a big thing,
- 24:31Speaker 1: even if it's on the channel, Like make it an event. Yeah,
- 24:35Speaker 1: that's all I got.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Well, what did you rate The Magic Ordinary Days?
- 24:39Speaker 1: I rated it four point seven five stars.
- 24:41Speaker 2: I gave it four point two five stars. I thought
- 24:43Speaker 2: this was great.
- 24:45Speaker 1: You know, literally, it was like a Saturday or Sunday morning.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I just turned it on, put the phone aside. I
- 24:52Speaker 1: knew I needed to like watch it or I would
- 24:55Speaker 1: have gotten like distracted, and I just was all in.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I'm really me too.
- 25:01Speaker 2: I did not have a hard time staying focused on
- 25:02Speaker 2: this movie app either. Hey, thanks for listening to this
