• 1:16
Speaker 1: Well, I got my hotel reservation for Thursday night, the kickoff party down there in Victoria.
• 1:22
  Speaker 1: We'll be there.
• 1:22
Speaker 1: You didn't go last year to the kickoff, not to the kickoff Boy.
• 1:26
Speaker 1: That kickoff was great, I'm telling you it was great.
• 1:28
Speaker 2: I think that you'll really enjoy it.
• 1:29
Speaker 2: They're still talking about Mike down there.
• 1:31
  Speaker 2: They are.
• 1:31
Speaker 2: They are I don't know what he did.
• 1:34
Speaker 1: Well, I think that he and Barney got together.
• 1:37
Speaker 2: He made an impression.
• 1:45
Speaker 1: And they out of jail.
• 1:46
Speaker 1: It took a while, I don't know, but, uh, great event.
• 1:47
Speaker 1: And if you have a chance, even if you're not going to go on the tour you know the drive down there is lickety split, doesn't take you any time at all.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: You know, you think of victoria and you think, oh, that's too far away.
• 1:58
Speaker 3: No, it's not, it's not really and uh.
• 2:00
Speaker 1: Anyway, down there at the town square they have the.
• 2:02
Speaker 1: They're going to have the symphony back again this year along with the country band and high school people and it's a big to-do in town square.
• 2:11
Speaker 2: If you look up certain cities in Texas, Victoria is known as the secret of Texas.
• 2:17
Speaker 2: It's like the best-kept secret of Texas.
• 2:19
  Speaker 2: It's a nice little town.
• 2:21
  Speaker 2: It's what the city's motto, I guess.
• 2:23
Speaker 1: So that's on Thursday, and then we all gather up out at the big park.
• 2:26
Speaker 1: It has a big parking lot and, uh, that's when we take off and and head this away.
• 2:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, uh, head this way and I think, uh, the stop is santa fe and then we go to nasa.
• 2:38
  Speaker 1: I don't believe I'm going to.
• 2:41
Speaker 1: I think i'm'm going to come home on Friday and spend the night here at the house yeah, I think that's why I said hotels and stuff and then, saturday, get up extra early and head up to the Spindletap Brewery and we're going to do set up up there for the show and we're going to do this live show from there, saturday from 10 to noon, and we're going to be indoors.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: Yep, I've made that decision.
• 3:07
Speaker 1: I saw your, your threads of emails on that, yep, and then, uh, we'll take off again.
• 3:12
Speaker 1: Let let somebody else do the teardown and I'll be on my way, yep, and then, uh, we head north up toward madisonville.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: On sunday, we spend the night, I think, in the woodlands and I think I'm going to do that.
• 3:29
Speaker 2: See, that's a little unsure on whether we're going to do that or just come back to the house and then restart the day the next day, yeah.
• 3:38
Speaker 1: You know I've shortened it and at the last minute I'm going.
• 3:42
  Speaker 1: Man, I wish I hadn't shortened it.
• 3:44
Speaker 2: Oh, to each his own.
• 3:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, Anyway, so I'm going, man.
• 3:45
  Speaker 2: I wish I hadn't shortened it.
• 3:45
Speaker 2: Oh, to each his own.
• 3:45
  Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway.
• 3:46
Speaker 1: So I'm going to take it on up there to Madisonville and then come back that afternoon, sunday afternoon.
• 3:52
Speaker 1: Really looking forward to it.
• 3:53
Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see all of the 350 cars, and there's no way you can put 350 cars in line and keep them all together.
• 4:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, and what bobby and jeremy did on this on the website way, if you get onto the hot rod tour texas website, they've actually listed the day's events hour by hour, where you're to be at, you know eight o'clock you're starting off this and then there's a timeline of what you could be doing in that timeline and this we're going to meet.
• 4:22
Speaker 2: So the whole thing is planned out.
• 4:25
Speaker 2: He did a really good job of that.
• 4:26
Speaker 1: You know I'll say this, that it is a major undertaking to do this.
• 4:30
Speaker 2: But let me interrupt that, because not only is he preparing for that, but every weekend he's got a show going on somewhere.
• 4:36
Speaker 2: He's going this way and that way.
• 4:39
Speaker 1: He does lots of cruise-ins on his own.
• 4:41
Speaker 1: You know, not necessarily with the Hot Rod Tour a bunch, but lots of cruise-ins, especially around the Victoria area.
• 4:48
Speaker 2: You know, and we do the cruise-ins here for the time we have and the folks that we want to, you know, promote.
• 4:53
Speaker 2: We don't get paid for it, obviously, but if you want to find out more, you can get onto the Hot Rod Tour of Texas website or follow Bobby and Jeremy on the Facebooks and they'll load you up with things every week.
• 5:05
  Speaker 2: They really will.
• 5:06
Speaker 2: I don't need to be loaded up any more than I already am.
• 5:08
Speaker 2: You were loaded last night.
• 5:09
  Speaker 2: I'm telling you.
• 5:11
Speaker 1: Well, margaritas are pretty potent.
• 5:13
  Speaker 1: Shut up, mars.
• 5:13
  Speaker 1: You didn't go, you're right, I didn't.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: I behaved, but you know what?
• 5:17
Speaker 1: We're having a lunch today and I can go down the loopy tortilla and get you a couple of margaritas to go.
• 5:26
  Speaker 3: That's right.
• 5:27
Speaker 1: He's already got it.
• 5:28
Speaker 1: I got to go to my mom's birthday party today.
• 5:31
Speaker 3: She is 96 today, wow.
• 5:33
  Speaker 2: Happy birthday.
• 5:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, where is she right?
• 5:36
Speaker 3: now she's at home.
• 5:37
  Speaker 1: Is she preparing?
• 5:37
Speaker 1: Getting her makeup on?
• 5:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, all that good stuff, setting up decorations, she's probably cooking and all that, yeah, probably.
• 5:40
Speaker 2: He's got her setting up decorations.
• 5:42
Speaker 2: She's probably cooking and all that.
• 5:44
Speaker 3: Yeah, probably he's trying to keep her off the ladder.
• 5:46
Speaker 2: you know hanging decorations and stuff Not since that last week accident.
• 5:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was bad.
• 5:53
Speaker 1: I've got some stories here to pass the time.
• 5:55
Speaker 1: Mike just told one, did he?
• 5:57
Speaker 1: I guess our guest is not going to make it.
• 6:01
  Speaker 3: Apparently he's not.
• 6:02
Speaker 3: I'm going to give him one more shot.
• 6:06
Speaker 1: Well, there is petroleum involved, so it's kind of a slick Saturday for him.
• 6:08
Speaker 1: Nascar is bringing its electrification and sustainability efforts closer to home.
• 6:14
Speaker 1: Stock car series, known for the thunderous roar from V8 engines, has added a new batch of electric vehicle charges to its headquarters in Daytona Beach.
• 6:23
Speaker 1: You know what's next, don't you?
• 6:25
  Speaker 1: It's shocking.
• 6:26
Speaker 1: Nascar partnered with Florida Power and Light and Swiss Industrial Group ABB for the project, which included 30 new level 2 EV chargers Not ones, but twos.
• 6:39
Speaker 1: Chargers are for employee and industry use and will facilitate NASCAR's transition to electric fleet vehicles.
• 6:49
Speaker 1: According to the press release, ford and Chevrolet have both since revealed their own EV prototype race vehicles.
• 6:57
Speaker 1: A Chevrolet Blazer EVSS served as the pace car for the Daytona 500 on February 16th.
• 7:03
Speaker 1: It was the first EV to pace NASCAR's most famous race.
• 7:07
Speaker 1: Did you watch it?
• 7:08
  Speaker 1: I did, I did.
• 7:09
Speaker 1: You knew it was going to happen, and there was always that one driver.
• 7:14
Speaker 1: I'm going to make a place for me, whether you're going to move over and let me in or not, because I'm faster than you.
• 7:19
Speaker 1: Well, he caused like a 34-car pileup.
• 7:23
Speaker 2: There was one early and then there was one late.
• 7:25
Speaker 2: Everybody settles down they want to be in it and then they say go, go, go and they go yeah.
• 7:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like putting 10 pounds of stuff in a five-pound bag.
• 7:38
Speaker 1: It just didn't work.
• 7:39
Speaker 2: And of course, the whole race time was this person hadn't won it in 20 years.
• 7:45
Speaker 2: This person's never won it, but the guy that won it won back-to-back, so go figure that Well, you know.
• 7:52
Speaker 1: The other thing is Sorry, mars, I cut off the wrong microphone.
• 7:54
Speaker 1: The other thing was with it they got I don't know 12 laps in and then they had to red flag it because of the rain.
• 8:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, they did that twice yeah.
• 8:05
Speaker 1: And it was all day waiting.
• 8:06
Speaker 1: They even played last year's 500.
• 8:10
Speaker 2: But follow up to it all.
• 8:11
Speaker 2: It was only 10% chance and by the time race day came it was 45% and we're all going to die.
• 8:17
Speaker 2: You know that kind of thought crazy.
• 8:20
Speaker 1: Well, it was a mess, but whatever, it was still a race.
• 8:23
Speaker 1: I will say this Well, it was a mess, but whatever it was still a mess.
• 8:23
Speaker 1: I will say this If you recall, back in the day there were no restrictor plates, it was just wide open and back then Arrow was coming into the whole thing with the road runners, the Super Bs, all of that stuff.
• 8:40
Speaker 1: Well then they decided they were going too fast.
• 8:46
Speaker 1: So, we're going to put a restrictor plate underneath the carburetor.
• 8:49
Speaker 1: Well, there's no carburetor anymore.
• 8:50
Speaker 1: I don't know how they're restricting it, but they're doing some something to jetting.
• 8:53
Speaker 1: Keep it under 200 miles I'm sure, and uh, the problem there is is that everybody's doing the same thing.
• 9:01
Speaker 1: They got the same kind of engine, the same kind of horsepower, so they all run together, which used to not be the case.
• 9:07
Speaker 1: Remember, you'd have first place, you know two minutes ahead, and last place, yeah, and the last place car has been lapped a hundred times.
• 9:16
Speaker 2: Yep, that, that's no fun and they've got other issues with nascar.
• 9:19
Speaker 2: Now they've got things about uh, there's gosh, I can't remember what they call it, but when you you have to, you can pay to get a spot as a team.
• 9:29
Speaker 2: So I'm going to pay you X amount of dollars, nascar, but I'm guaranteed a spot in the race, whether you qualify good or not.
• 9:36
Speaker 1: I can't remember the name, the other thing is that they had the foreigner at the back of the pack driving a car that it's like here.
• 9:45
  Speaker 1: Here's a gimme put the.
• 9:47
Speaker 1: The other thing is that I wanted to mention did you happen to notice that there is no more back, back, uh, straight away grandstands anymore?
• 9:57
Speaker 1: Did you know that?
• 9:59
Speaker 2: I did not notice that they took them out.
• 10:01
Speaker 2: Charter when you pay for a charter to get in a race is what it is.
• 10:05
Speaker 1: They took those grandstands out in the back and they completely redid and added seats to the front straightaway.
• 10:11
Speaker 1: I guess nobody was sitting back there.
• 10:12
Speaker 1: When I used to go to the circle track race here in Houston, I always sat in the back stretch because the seats back there were cheaper and you could get real close.
• 10:22
Speaker 2: Well, when they opened up, the.
• 10:22
Speaker 2: Dallas Motor Speedway for NASCAR.
• 10:23
  Speaker 2: It real close.
• 10:23
Speaker 2: Well, when they opened up the Dallas Motor Speedway for NASCAR, I was at the first race.
• 10:27
Speaker 2: We sat in turn two in the bleachers.
• 10:29
Speaker 2: Now there's multi-million dollar hotels and, whatever the case may be, oh, the condos down there, condos and all that.
• 10:38
Speaker 2: I sat in bleachers on cold, rainy, wet bleachers.
• 10:40
Speaker 2: That first race in Dallas.
• 10:42
Speaker 2: Kathy and I were there.
• 10:42
Speaker 2: Yep, they flew us up for the race.
• 10:45
Speaker 2: I've been to one race up there, one, nascar racing used to go to kansas all the time with, uh, uh, keystone.
• 10:52
Speaker 2: Uh, we would have booths and things like that was it a mile and a half yeah, yeah, it's a cookie cutter mile and a half up in kansas.
• 11:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's when, uh, I worked for keystone and I worked for um.
• 11:02
Speaker 2: That's when I worked for Keystone and I worked for Jamie McMurray's dad, jim McMurray.
• 11:08
Speaker 2: He was my boss and that's when Jamie was in go-karts.
• 11:11
Speaker 2: Any relationship to Fred McMurray?
• 11:13
Speaker 2: No, no, it's probably a distant cousin my three sons, but they would.
• 11:17
Speaker 2: Jim would bring his trailer in his truck to my house, park it in front.
• 11:23
Speaker 2: He would pay Jason to wash it, and then him and I would go make sales calls in san antonio.
• 11:28
Speaker 2: But his sales calls were everything for the go-kart, nothing to do with what we had to do.
• 11:34
Speaker 2: So guys tagged along.
• 11:35
  Speaker 2: It was great.
• 11:35
Speaker 2: Uh, jim, I think, has since retired.
• 11:37
Speaker 2: Jamie uh is now a broadcaster for nascar.
• 11:41
Speaker 2: So I knew him when he was, you know, growing up a tyke, yeah, little guy, when his first race was the craftsman trucks in um daytona.
• 11:50
Speaker 2: Craftsman truck race, daytona, I don't.
• 11:52
Speaker 2: He got in a wreck and all that stuff.
• 11:54
Speaker 1: So that happens, everybody gets in a wreck daytona.
• 11:57
Speaker 2: Uh, he drove for sterling marlin.
• 11:59
Speaker 2: When sterling marlin had his wreck and had to get out of racing, jamie took his car and won daytona.
• 12:04
  Speaker 2: I'll be.
• 12:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got the newspaper articles and all that stuff for it.
• 12:08
Speaker 1: You gotta wonder sometimes whatever happened to those old, very successful race car drivers.
• 12:13
Speaker 2: Uh, terry labonte terry labonte still around.
• 12:16
Speaker 2: Bobby labonte well, they used to be broadcasting last year, I know.
• 12:19
  Speaker 1: But did he?
• 12:21
Speaker 1: Is he not racing anything anywhere?
• 12:22
Speaker 1: I don't know how do you just say I'm not going to do that?
• 12:24
  Speaker 2: well, don't quit.
• 12:25
Speaker 2: I think they get involved in more of the safety aspect.
• 12:27
Speaker 2: They get involved in the marketing.
• 12:29
Speaker 2: They get involved in different parts of NASCAR.
• 12:31
Speaker 2: No but it's not driving the car, I know, but you're too old that, barbra Streisand the BS, send it to Big Ben yeah send it to Big Ben.
• 12:49
  Speaker 2: Do I need a seatbelt?
• 12:54
Speaker 1: do I need a seat belt?
• 12:56
  Speaker 1: Well, I, I don't know.
• 12:58
Speaker 1: I just it was different.
• 13:00
Speaker 1: I really hadn't watched the daytona 500 a number of years and I thought, well, uh, I'm gonna do that and I did.
• 13:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, I got all this stuff done around the house.
• 13:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, you kind of piddle around, one, do another stuff, yep, it was interesting.
• 13:12
Speaker 1: And I'm not too sure about the segments.
• 13:18
Speaker 1: The segment racing, yeah.
• 13:19
  Speaker 1: Stages, yeah.
• 13:21
  Speaker 2: I don't.
• 13:21
Speaker 2: Why not just run it all the way?
• 13:24
Speaker 2: Everybody gets a trophy.
• 13:24
Speaker 2: That's what it is.
• 13:25
Speaker 2: Everybody gets a trophy.
• 13:27
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm going to get a point for this, because I finished third.
• 13:29
Speaker 2: Why don't you try to finish first?
• 13:34
Speaker 1: I want it to go all the way From the start to the finish green flag until there's a wreck.
• 13:40
Speaker 1: I agree, the staging thing doesn't do it for me.
• 13:45
Speaker 1: You've got a 500-mile race and part of the appeal of that is being able to go the long distance without stages.
• 13:55
Speaker 1: Come on in, change the tires.
• 13:57
Speaker 1: No, you get a free pass.
• 13:58
  Speaker 1: That's not it.
• 13:59
Speaker 1: No, I say on those big races like that no, nay, nay, nay, nay nay, I say Nay, nay, you eat too much.
• 14:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, it just didn't work for me.
• 14:10
Speaker 2: Well, to get right into it, we got, I'm going to do the racing calendar.
• 14:16
Speaker 2: It's coming up next, next segment.
• 14:17
  Speaker 2: What do you?
• 14:18
  Speaker 2: Next segment?
• 14:18
  Speaker 2: What do you?
• 14:19
  Speaker 2: The racing?
• 14:20
  Speaker 1: calendar.
• 14:20
  Speaker 1: He's reading ahead.
• 14:21
Speaker 1: I know he's always when he's ready to move, when he's ready to go somewhere, he is ready to go.
• 14:28
Speaker 1: Get out of his way, I gotta go home, why?
• 14:31
Speaker 1: Well, I got stuff to do.
• 14:32
