- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, welcome back and thank you so much for your listener, ship.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ask you if you would grab your bottles, go to do the anatomy chapter one.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think this will be the last day we find our place in this passage for this week tomorrow.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to do something a little bit different.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ask if you would to tune your ears.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to talk to a specific subset of the population today.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: When I talk to some of you who are in a relationship, it's likely that there are numerous hundreds, thousands could be tens of thousands across the hundred plus radio stations and of course it goes out the video version on YouTube and sometimes on Facebook and you can listen to the archives on podcasts or maybe you're even listening after the fact after this
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: in a relationship, maybe as a husband, as a wife.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, all of us are in some sort of relationship, employee, employer, church member, pastor.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: You fill the blank, there's all kinds of relationships, fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, and all that, but I want to talk to those of you who are married for just a little while.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: I want to ask you if you would, to tune your ears and even tune your heart.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes we can have open ears but we don't have soft hearts to what God has for us.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't pretend to speak as an oracle of God or anything like that.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have any greater avenue of access than you do, Christian friend.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, I believe God's given me a thought today that could be a help to you.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Had the opportunity not that long ago to preach of Valentine's banquet.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: Did you go to a Valentine's banquet?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: Hope you did.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's a good time with Christian friends and had the opportunity to spend some time there with my wife, of course, and some dear ministry friends and had a great church with preaching out.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: And by just speaking to them, and this thought that I'm going to bring you today, some of the seeds came from what I spoke to those deer couples about.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Go to do the round of each chapter one, verse number six, you may wonder as I read this
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: How do you get a Valentine's Day thought from Deuteronomy 1-6, a stick with me for a moment, Deuteronomy 1-6, the Lord, our God, speak unto us in horrible saying, you have dwelt long enough.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: In this mount, I've given you the context of this passage, we're in the same passage of Scripture we have been last week.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Moses is speaking to God's people and telling them what God said,
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: You realize here that God is giving His people some commandments.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: God is giving to His people a challenge, though.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's telling them in a verses 7, 8, 9, where they're supposed to go and what they're supposed to do and but he begins with this kind of slap across the face.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: You've been here long enough.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Christian friend Christian couple could I speak to you about this fact maybe just maybe as we spoke about I think the one it was on Tuesday Maybe you've dwelt long enough with your own failures or the failures of your mate We taught at length about that you can go back and find the broadcast for Tuesday If you'd like to hear the full context there we spoke yesterday about how friction
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe just maybe we've dwelt long enough with friction.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's time to move on.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: But today I want to talk about this.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: Slightly it feels more positive at the beginning, but even more insidious possibly because it's easy to do.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: husband?
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe wife?
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: You've been friends long enough.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm speaking specifically to husbands or wives.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty details, but there is supposed to be something beyond the care and compassion of friendship.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: That is a good attribute to have in a
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: If your relationship with your spouse ends at friendship and goes no further, then you are not in a biblical marriage.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: You are not in a marriage that is echoing the love that God has for his bride.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: We, as husbands, are supposed to reflect God's love.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: and why as we are supposed to reflect back the love that His church is supposed to give to the bridegroom.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: But before we get too deep in the weeds, I remind you that you are knit together before God in a holy matrimony.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: your relationship should be more than just friendship.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think of my friendships with so many different people.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very blessed.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: They say as you grow older, some friendships with her and some fade, and I've been so blessed to
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, there have been some that may be of coming gone and honestly, maybe it's because I haven't been the friend that I should be.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: And there are people I think of that, you know, I should write them a note and I try to obey those spiritual impulses, but I've been blessed with some great friends.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think of the the men that I can call a friend.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be honest with you.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have any girl friends.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's wise and you can lambass me if you want, but my wife is my friend.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: And she's more than that to me.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk about that in just a moment.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: But I have men.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: that are friends.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: Some younger, some my age, some older, I am blessed with mentors with heroes that invest in me.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: Men that I can call friends.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: I can tell you this.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: I have never once met one of my friends and sometimes there will be a hug while grasp each other in brotherly kindness as friends.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: But I'll tell you what, I'm not a habit of greeting my friends with a holy kiss, all right?
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a culture I grew up in and I don't plan on starting a time soon.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I will tell you this, when I greet my wife.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now, there may be what my girls call Smoochy Kisses.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they will often squeal with mixed delight, and I'm not sure if there's a little discussed mixed in there when Mom and I, Smoochy Kiss, I'll be honest with you, I have a desire.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: to show my girls what a healthy relationship should look like.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: What would you think if I came to your church was asked by your pastor come and preach and you never ever once saw me hold my wife's hand?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: never saw me put my hand on the small of her back and never put my arm around her shoulders and maybe just gave her a little peck on the cheek and if you never saw that maybe I was with you not just a week but two or three and I'm not talking about to indecent to public displays of affection I'm not talking about any of that but something that indicates we are in a relationship
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: We're not just co-labours.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: We're not just co-habitants of the home that we've built together.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: No friend.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: We are husband and wife.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: And as such, we should be more than friends.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: I know we are some weeks past Valentine's Day.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: But could I speak to you specifically husband?
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: You need to love your wife as Christ loved the church.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think a song of Solomon 516, there's this passage, a short four words says, this is my beloved.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: We are his beloved, but how do you show how much your wife is beloved by you?
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: Do you yell at her?
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: God help you, sir.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: I can't even call you, sir.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: If you strike your wife.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you have so strong the pendulum of the wrong direction that you're not even friends.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you've dwelt long enough, though, as combatants.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you've dwelt long enough with violence.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you've weathered the mental or verbal or physical.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's time, as God told his people in Deuteronomy 1-6 long enough it's time to move on.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think of Exodus 24-7, we've given some context in illustration each of these days about failures and about friction and today about being friends instead of husband and wife and will continue
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: There was a rekindling that happened here between God and His people, and He took the book of the covenant and red in the audience of the people, and they said, All that the Lord has said will we do, and be obedient.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: There's an opportunity for you today.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe your husband's not listening wife, maybe the only one you think, how can I ever change him?
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Stop trying.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: Truthfully, you've heard it said many a time, but you can only change you.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: Husband, maybe you're listening your wife's not, and you're thinking she could really use this.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, sir.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: You could really use this.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: Could I encourage you?
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of pointing fingers instead of being accusatory, can I encourage you to start thinking it's me, it's me, it's me, a Lord standing in the need of prayer.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, we can fix ourselves.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: No, we honest with you, that's the only part of the equation that we can possibly impact.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: We can't fix them.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: We will never be able to, but we can fix ourselves and show what Christ's likeness should be like.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, husband, it's been a long while, since you've grabbed your wife around the waist in planet a kiss on her lips.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe just maybe.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: Why if it's been a long while since you've in any way, biblically revered to your husband.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: that you've shown some respect to him.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: You submitted to him, I'll be honest with you.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: I heard a message many years ago by a good old preacher, submission breeds submission.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: It works both ways.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's a two-way street.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: I encourage you, stop being just friends.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: Be husband and wife.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: This works for sons and daughters.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: This works for every relationship, but I want to speak specifically to husbands and wives.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: Today, I hope it was a blessing to you.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: In 60's saying, let me tell you about a gospel tract.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: I've got my hand one written by our founder, Dr. Paul of being called mom, a tribute to mother.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we are all blessed with mothers.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: Now, your mother might not be living.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: And she might now live the way she was supposed to.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: But the fact that you're breathing right now tells me that you had a mother, you did not just snap into existence, we all had a mother.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'd encourage you, as we draw close to Mother's Day, consider getting some of these gospel tracks.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: And when you see someone you know, that's a mom, use this gospel track.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, say a friend of mine, Paula Bean was friend with everybody.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I think you can safely say a friend of mine wrote this and wants me to give it to you, because I can guarantee
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: Paula Veen, there's a few things that could bring a smile to his lips and that great cloud of witnesses other than seeing people continuing to use Gothel Tracks hero.
