- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and this is our little corner of the internet where we make Dutch feel friendly and doable. Luna: Hi Lucas! I'm so ready to learn something new today. Last time we were at the restaurant asking for the menu. That was fun. Lucas: It was. And today we're going somewhere you might need after a long week: the pharmacy. Specifically, we're learning how to buy aspirin in Dutch. Luna: Oh, that's useful. I definitely have had days where I needed a little pain relief. Lucas: Exactly. So first, the word for pharmacy: de apotheek. Let's say it together. De apotheek. Luna: De apotheek. Lucas: Good. Now, the item itself: de aspirine. That's the medicine. De aspirine. Luna: De aspirine. That sounds similar to English, which helps. Lucas: It does. Now, let's put them in a sentence. If you need aspirin, you say: Ik heb aspirine nodig. That means 'I need aspirin.' Ik heb aspirine nodig. Luna: Ik heb aspirine nodig. I need aspirin. Got it. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to ask for it politely, you can say: Mag ik aspirine, alstublieft? That's 'May I have aspirin, please?' Mag ik aspirine, alstublieft? Luna: Mag ik aspirine, alstublieft? That's a mouthful, but I like it. Lucas: You're doing great. Now, before we practice more, Luna, I want to mention something. You know how we always say Fexingo is free and ad-free? Luna: Yeah, and I love that. It makes learning feel so clean. Lucas: Right. If Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Dutch, and you want to keep it that way, you can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's a simple way to keep things running. Luna: And every little bit helps. Okay, back to our aspirin. I want to practice asking how much it costs. Lucas: Great instinct. That's: Hoeveel kost aspirine? Which means 'How much does aspirin cost?' Hoeveel kost aspirine? Luna: Hoeveel kost aspirine? Nice, that's easy to remember. Lucas: Now let's put it all together in a mini scene. Imagine you walk into the apotheek and you say: Goedemorgen, ik heb aspirine nodig. Luna: Goedemorgen, ik heb aspirine nodig. That's 'Good morning, I need aspirin.' Lucas: Then the pharmacist might ask: Hoeveel kost aspirine? And you can answer politely: Mag ik aspirine, alstublieft? Actually, that's what you'd say before asking the price. Luna: So first you ask for it, then you ask the price. Got it. Let me try the whole thing: Mag ik aspirine, alstublieft? Hoeveel kost aspirine? Lucas: That's perfect. You're ready for the apotheek. Let's do one more repetition of each phrase. First, de apotheek. Luna: De apotheek. Lucas: De aspirine. Luna: De aspirine. Lucas: Ik heb aspirine nodig. Luna: Ik heb aspirine nodig. Lucas: Mag ik aspirine, alstublieft? Luna: Mag ik aspirine, alstublieft? Lucas: Hoeveel kost aspirine? Luna: Hoeveel kost aspirine? Lucas, I feel like I could actually use these tomorrow. Lucas: And that's what we're here for. Practice these five phrases till we chat again. See you next time on Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Luna: Tot ziens, everyone!
