Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person, Michelle. I guess I'm here obviously
- 0:06Speaker 1: because we have to talk about episode twenty of eighty six.
- 0:11Speaker 1: But first I just wanted to say, oh my god,
- 0:14Speaker 1: the fourth episode of Takobe's Original Sin was so fucking
- 0:18Speaker 1: good and so well animated that I just needed to
- 0:23Speaker 1: tell you, Like, if you're not watching it, I think
- 0:26Speaker 1: maybe you should be. I think there is only like
- 0:29Speaker 1: a couple more episodes left because it's a you know,
- 0:31Speaker 1: really short manga. But at the end, I have to decide, like,
- 0:34Speaker 1: are we going to cover this on you know, this
- 0:37Speaker 1: podcast because it's so fucking cool. But I don't know.
- 0:41Speaker 1: So I don't know what I just said, but I
- 0:44Speaker 1: needed to tell someone because I only told my mom,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and yeah, I gave her a play by play of
- 0:50Speaker 1: the entire episode, but like, I don't know, I just
- 0:53Speaker 1: need to tell a lot of people, a lot of people,
- 0:56Speaker 1: so now you know stuff. Anyway, let's talk about episode
- 1:02Speaker 1: twenty of eighty six because it's kind of a big
- 1:06Speaker 1: deal episode for me. I have a lot to say
- 1:09Speaker 1: about it, I think, and it's maybe the first episode
- 1:14Speaker 1: at least of this time through unless I'm forgetting one.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I might be that I like cried in a couple
- 1:19Speaker 1: of times, like very minor crying, like the way I
- 1:22Speaker 1: normally cry, or like I just kind of tear up slightly,
- 1:25Speaker 1: not like a real cry, but still more than I've
- 1:28Speaker 1: been doing for the show. So yeah, it's probably my
- 1:33Speaker 1: favorite episode of the series so far. So I'm excited,
- 1:38Speaker 1: sort of vaguely, So let's just get right into it,
- 1:42Speaker 1: because I have no idea if this is going to
- 1:44Speaker 1: be long or short. It had less notes than usual,
- 1:48Speaker 1: but I have a lot more to say, so we'll
- 1:50Speaker 1: find out. So Episode twenty is called Together unto Death,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and I don't actually know if that's said in the episode.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I'm starting to think now that not all the titles
- 1:59Speaker 1: are actually things that people have said and I was wrong,
- 2:03Speaker 1: but maybe I'll catch it, which doesn't usually happen when
- 2:06Speaker 1: I say that, but who knows. Anyway, If you remember,
- 2:10Speaker 1: from the end of episode nineteen, we just found out
- 2:13Speaker 1: that Frederica was hanging out with them and had been
- 2:16Speaker 1: hiding stowed away in one of the robots, and Shint
- 2:20Speaker 1: had been like, here have my gun so you can
- 2:22Speaker 1: kill yourself when things get bad, and she was like, oh,
- 2:25Speaker 1: that's so nice. Yeah, that was that episode, So we
- 2:29Speaker 1: don't start exactly there, but we do start close. So
- 2:33Speaker 1: the first thing we see is the sky. It's sunset,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and there's like a little plane like it looks like
- 2:38Speaker 1: one of those like propeller planes, like a old style one,
- 2:41Speaker 1: like flying overhead, and then it just explodes and like
- 2:46Speaker 1: just kind of like I don't know, like dusts things
- 2:49Speaker 1: kind of go out and kind of fall down into
- 2:52Speaker 1: the sky. And I was just like, what the fuck
- 2:54Speaker 1: did I just see? And it is October ninth, twenty
- 2:57Speaker 1: one forty nine, which I don't think is that far
- 3:01Speaker 1: after the end of last episode, but I don't remember
- 3:03Speaker 1: what date it was because we started going by like
- 3:06Speaker 1: time to the mission in time after the mission started.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But anyway, we hear a voice say we started our
- 3:12Speaker 1: advance again. It's the dark haired guy that has no name,
- 3:16Speaker 1: and he's standing on maybe what is a balcony with
- 3:18Speaker 1: General Richard, and like there are columns kind of behind them,
- 3:22Speaker 1: and the railing in front of them is like real
- 3:24Speaker 1: messed up, like broken in the middle, and you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: they're staring out at the sunsets, and the time since
- 3:29Speaker 1: the mission began is eleven hours, twenty five minutes and
- 3:32Speaker 1: seventeen seconds and counting, and that puts us about an
- 3:36Speaker 1: hour from where we were last week. So anyway, dark
- 3:40Speaker 1: haired guy continues, according to that boy with the strange powers,
- 3:44Speaker 1: the Morvo was stopped on the tracks in southern Legion
- 3:46Speaker 1: held territory. The Federacy's main force as well as the
- 3:49Speaker 1: Alliance will advance and take the area around the tracks.
- 3:52Speaker 1: He's like looking at a tablet that shows the plan
- 3:55Speaker 1: on the map. Yay, and he continues, the United Kingdom
- 3:59Speaker 1: will be working with another smaller Federacy unit to take
- 4:01Speaker 1: the tracks on the north side. General Richard's like, so
- 4:05Speaker 1: the United Kingdom volunteered to be a diversion, but if
- 4:08Speaker 1: the Federacy's main army advances, the Legion's not going to
- 4:12Speaker 1: miss that. What's our plan, Dark haired Guy says. The
- 4:16Speaker 1: Alliance is going to be using a prototype anti radar weapon.
- 4:19Speaker 1: They look up at the sky as many planes explode.
- 4:24Speaker 1: He continues, it disperses clouds of small metal particles into
- 4:28Speaker 1: the air, jamming communications among the Legion. Okay, that's what
- 4:31Speaker 1: we're seeing. They're exploding drone things, not planes with people
- 4:36Speaker 1: in them, Thank god, because their reaction was like none
- 4:39Speaker 1: and that would have been terrible anyway, he continues, if
- 4:43Speaker 1: they use everything they have, the hope is that they
- 4:45Speaker 1: can buy enough time for the Legion to identify the
- 4:47Speaker 1: United Kingdom's force is the big one. General Richard says,
- 4:51Speaker 1: they're going all in. The Legion learned fast, so this
- 4:53Speaker 1: kind of thing only works once. Dark haired Guy's like,
- 4:57Speaker 1: if we lose this, it's over. What else could they do?
- 5:00Speaker 1: Sees the same right. General Richard's like, everyone's forced to
- 5:03Speaker 1: do whatever it takes. Hunh. We see some more drones
- 5:07Speaker 1: explode in the air. Yay, and then we go to
- 5:09Speaker 1: the opening theme hooray. Back from the opening, we see
- 5:14Speaker 1: Shin close up. He's kind of looking down and then
- 5:17Speaker 1: he kind of sits up and says they're on the move.
- 5:20Speaker 1: He is outside, like sitting near a Reagan leaf and
- 5:23Speaker 1: at sunset, and ride In is there too, kind of
- 5:25Speaker 1: standing nearby, and ride In says the Legion. Shin's like
- 5:29Speaker 1: they fell for the diversion to the north right and
- 5:32Speaker 1: says a double diversion. Hunh. Those guys to the north
- 5:35Speaker 1: and south are pretty desperate. It is twelve hours, one
- 5:39Speaker 1: minute and two seconds since the mission began, so just
- 5:42Speaker 1: about an hour later and it looks like they're at
- 5:45Speaker 1: like an abandoned train station. Riding continues. That means the
- 5:49Speaker 1: main force will finally move to We won't be that
- 5:51Speaker 1: far after all. Sin's like the Federacy's main force will
- 5:56Speaker 1: be doing an all night march. That should get them close.
- 5:59Speaker 1: But this point, they're like walking up the steps kind
- 6:02Speaker 1: of to go across this bridge, like elevated walkway across
- 6:06Speaker 1: the train tracks, and Righton says true. Rydan is walking
- 6:10Speaker 1: a little bit ahead of Shin, and they're on the
- 6:12Speaker 1: bridge now over the tracks, and Sin says, I don't
- 6:15Speaker 1: care if they can't catch up. But Ryan stops walking
- 6:19Speaker 1: and he kind of looks back at Shin with like
- 6:22Speaker 1: some contempt on his face and says, Shin, take Frederica
- 6:27Speaker 1: and go back. What Shin's like, why me too? Me too?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Righton turns back towards him and says, you know why
- 6:37Speaker 1: someone needs to get her past all those legion without
- 6:39Speaker 1: being found. Only you can do it, Shin says. And
- 6:42Speaker 1: our pursuit we cut to a sign that says pont
- 6:47Speaker 1: de Bleu. Maybe that way kind of to the right.
- 6:50Speaker 1: It's kind of just there and I don't know what
- 6:53Speaker 1: it means, but we see it, and Righton says, if
- 6:56Speaker 1: he can only move on the train tracks, we can
- 6:58Speaker 1: probably find him just by talking through the power aid
- 7:01Speaker 1: power raid. Do you guys have power aids again? Fortunately,
- 7:04Speaker 1: unlike last time, someone's making a big distraction for us.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Shin kind of chuckles and Rydon glares at him. Shin says,
- 7:13Speaker 1: you think the Legion will be forced to use all
- 7:16Speaker 1: their forces to deal with the diversion in the main unit.
- 7:19Speaker 1: You know from the last time we passed through Legion
- 7:21Speaker 1: territory that fighting means instant death right, AND's like it'd
- 7:25Speaker 1: be better than having you lead us the way you
- 7:26Speaker 1: are now what you've always been crazy, but that last
- 7:31Speaker 1: fight was too much something at control of you. I
- 7:34Speaker 1: don't know if it's this ghost night of Frederica's that
- 7:36Speaker 1: you've never met, but what's gotten into you? Shin's like
- 7:41Speaker 1: nothing right, AND's like, you really think you can fool
- 7:44Speaker 1: me that easily, idiot. We get this kind of unsettling
- 7:47Speaker 1: piano music starting up in the background, and Chin says,
- 7:50Speaker 1: fool you right, and says, I'm afraid We've known each
- 7:54Speaker 1: other for a long time and I can see a
- 7:55Speaker 1: few things about you that you even can't. You're such
- 7:58Speaker 1: a mess you can barely stand, so you're gonna go
- 8:01Speaker 1: back to where you were when we met, never opening
- 8:03Speaker 1: up to anyone like that name. Everyone calls you the reaper.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Shin's like, then the rest of you can take her
- 8:09Speaker 1: and go. I'd rather follow it myself than take someone
- 8:12Speaker 1: who'll slow me down. He starts to walk forward again,
- 8:15Speaker 1: and Rydan's like, what Shin says, if this is a
- 8:18Speaker 1: one way mission, it's better I go myself. He walks
- 8:22Speaker 1: past Rydon. If you're intending to go home, there's no
- 8:25Speaker 1: need to follow a path of no return. Rydon like
- 8:28Speaker 1: fucking takes off after him, and he's like you, and
- 8:31Speaker 1: he grabs him by the shoulder and then slams him
- 8:34Speaker 1: back into the chain link fence. There's a thud, obviously,
- 8:37Speaker 1: and then silence. We have this really super close up
- 8:41Speaker 1: on back of Rydon's head and part of Shin's face
- 8:44Speaker 1: kind of in front of him, and Shin looks incredibly hurts.
- 8:48Speaker 1: He's looking down, and Rydon says, don't think you can
- 8:51Speaker 1: keep everyone else alive by doing this. Shin looks up
- 8:54Speaker 1: at him. He continues, what do you mean one way mission?
- 8:58Speaker 1: Don't talk like you're never coming back. Shin narrows his
- 9:01Speaker 1: eyes and kind of looks off to the side and says,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I'm not planning to die right. In's like, yeah, I bet,
- 9:07Speaker 1: but you're not planning on coming back alive either. That's
- 9:10Speaker 1: kind of a pause. Why did you kill your brother?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Wasn't it so you could keep going forward? Shin's eyes widen.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Writing continues, You didn't survive all that just to kill
- 9:20Speaker 1: your brother, did you? He pulls him forward by his bandana.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Don't misunderstand that. There's a brief pause before Shinn says then,
- 9:30Speaker 1: Writing kind of gasps. Shin is looking away again, and
- 9:35Speaker 1: he says then why He furrows his brow. Why did I?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Rydon looks shocked, and there is a long pause, and
- 9:46Speaker 1: then Rydon says, I don't want to die. That's all.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I think that's enough. I'm pretty sure the others feel
- 9:54Speaker 1: the same way. The camera refocuses to the tracks behind Ryding,
- 10:00Speaker 1: and then we switch to the tracks behind Shin, which,
- 10:04Speaker 1: unlike the tracks behind ride in which you're clear, have
- 10:07Speaker 1: like a little sign with an X in front of them,
- 10:09Speaker 1: like blocking the path. Writing continues, it's your path to walk,
- 10:14Speaker 1: you decide, Shin closes his eyes and you know, just
- 10:18Speaker 1: looks totally hurt. Writing continues, but we're all traveling the
- 10:23Speaker 1: same road together. If you're exhausted, we'll support you. If
- 10:27Speaker 1: you're tired, rest, So he finally removes his hand from
- 10:31Speaker 1: Shin's bandana. Don't try to fight on your own. Shin
- 10:34Speaker 1: is just staring at the ground. He looks kind of
- 10:37Speaker 1: like a kicked puppy. Honestly, he's maybe a little ashamed,
- 10:41Speaker 1: looking like he knows right and is totally right. Maybe.
- 10:45Speaker 1: And then we see that from the actual train station.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Everyone is watching and Theo's like kind of feels like
- 10:52Speaker 1: I'm being left out, like I'm not being treated like
- 10:56Speaker 1: a fellow guy. And She's like they've known each other
- 10:59Speaker 1: for a long time. Supposedly a lot happened before we
- 11:02Speaker 1: met them. Frederica's like, is that how it is? Karina
- 11:07Speaker 1: is squirming around because Au has her hand over her
- 11:11Speaker 1: mouth and is holding her back, and Andrew says, stay put.
- 11:15Speaker 1: It's your fault for trying to run over and interrupt them.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Frederica's like, you're like a little dog. At this point,
- 11:22Speaker 1: Rydon starts to walk off and leaves Shin alone on
- 11:25Speaker 1: the bridge and Theo's like, even if you did go,
- 11:28Speaker 1: you just make things more complicated. Stay put. Shin, at
- 11:32Speaker 1: this point also starts to walk off, but in the
- 11:34Speaker 1: other direction, away from everyone else, and Karina like kind
- 11:37Speaker 1: of gasps and blushes and she's like, that's not true.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Andrew smiles and sighs. THEO says, what Rydan said about
- 11:44Speaker 1: something having control over him is probably true. Shin's been
- 11:47Speaker 1: acting weird for a while. Frederica is sitting on the
- 11:51Speaker 1: ground and she looks pretty upsets, and we see a
- 11:54Speaker 1: flashback to when Shin cut the cord back in the
- 11:59Speaker 1: first chord, when they were all, you know, out together,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and he went off to fight the Legion and collapsed
- 12:06Speaker 1: the like cliff in front of them and made a
- 12:08Speaker 1: landslide so they couldn't follow that part anyway. THEO continues
- 12:12Speaker 1: thinking back, he's been weird ever since then. Before he'd
- 12:15Speaker 1: never do anything that meant certain death or let anyone
- 12:18Speaker 1: else do. So we have this really cool shots where
- 12:22Speaker 1: we are looking at them from inside the like the
- 12:25Speaker 1: train station, and they're like out on the platform. We're
- 12:28Speaker 1: like in a building, and Karna is framed in like
- 12:32Speaker 1: the window, and the other three are framed in like
- 12:35Speaker 1: the doorway and like there's a really nice red sunset
- 12:38Speaker 1: behind them. It's interesting that Karina is alone, showing that
- 12:42Speaker 1: her opinion is a little different anyway. Karna says, Shin
- 12:45Speaker 1: is fine, he wouldn't leave us. Theo's like, I think
- 12:49Speaker 1: you should try to face Shin as he really is
- 12:51Speaker 1: and not see him as an ideal in your head.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Karina like gasps, and THEO continues, Shin's not going to
- 12:57Speaker 1: be a personal reaper forever, right, Karina looks kind of sad.
- 13:01Speaker 1: THEO continues, you are always worried about that, right on
- 13:05Speaker 1: jew on Ju's eighs, We're similar, after all, I know
- 13:09Speaker 1: a little about what a child feels like when their
- 13:11Speaker 1: family says they're not needed. Karina makes like a sad noise,
- 13:15Speaker 1: and on juw continues, they wonder if it's their fault.
- 13:18Speaker 1: They might know in their head that it isn't, but
- 13:20Speaker 1: they still blame themselves, especially since Shin wasn't just told
- 13:25Speaker 1: by his brother. Karina looks hurt and says, you can't
- 13:30Speaker 1: get rid of things like that by yourself. Shin walks
- 13:33Speaker 1: by the fence across the tracks from them, like on
- 13:35Speaker 1: the other side, and Karina says, does that mean our
- 13:38Speaker 1: just being there for him isn't enough? Theo's like, all
- 13:42Speaker 1: we've been able to do is ask him to stay
- 13:44Speaker 1: with us till we die. Shit. And also, I'm pretty
- 13:46Speaker 1: sure that's the title drop just translated a little different.
- 13:50Speaker 1: We were just relying on him and intending to leave
- 13:52Speaker 1: him someday, That's exactly it, THEO. We get a close
- 13:57Speaker 1: up of the three of their faces, you know, minus Frederic,
- 14:01Speaker 1: and they all just look like they're about to cry,
- 14:03Speaker 1: and THEO continues even though I'm sure that was the
- 14:06Speaker 1: first time he said he'd go on ahead of us.
- 14:08Speaker 1: We cut to a crumpled sign like on the tracks
- 14:12Speaker 1: that shows that Wald is to the left and San
- 14:15Speaker 1: Magnolia is to the right. But it's not in English,
- 14:17Speaker 1: so I'm just guessing based on the words and the pictures.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Angie's like, they said the Republic isn't responding to radio calls.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Frederica says, essentially the country must have ceased to exist.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Theo's like, probably so they were wiped out after all.
- 14:34Speaker 1: We see that the sign is crushing a small white flower.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Karina says, the major wasn't able to catch up with us. Huh,
- 14:43Speaker 1: there's just kind of silence, and then THEO says, just
- 14:48Speaker 1: so you know, Karina, this is your big chance. They say,
- 14:51Speaker 1: when someone's feeling depressed, it's easier to take advantage of them.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Karina's like, huh, are says just so you know THEA Oh,
- 15:00Speaker 1: it's only bad girls that do that. That wouldn't be
- 15:03Speaker 1: right for Karina. Theo's like, I suppose that's true, and
- 15:06Speaker 1: Karina says huh. They both just kind of turn and
- 15:10Speaker 1: stare at her, like what do you mean huh, and
- 15:13Speaker 1: Corna blushes and she's like, no, I don't do you
- 15:18Speaker 1: think she knows? Au and THEO just look at each other.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Frederica says, I would say he's long since realized, but
- 15:27Speaker 1: thinks of it more as a childish admiration and possessiveness.
- 15:30Speaker 1: THEO and Andrew gasp. Karina's head at this point is
- 15:34Speaker 1: like literally steaming, and she's like vibrating and embarrassment, and
- 15:38Speaker 1: Frederica continues, he seems to think of you as a
- 15:41Speaker 1: little sister who's particularly difficult to deal with. Speak for yourself.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I don't think he sees you as a woman at all,
- 15:48Speaker 1: to be honest. Fuck, Carna like slumps over and then
- 15:51Speaker 1: just like falls down and like hits the ground and
- 15:54Speaker 1: looks like she passes out. Onjuw puts her hands on
- 15:57Speaker 1: Frederica's shoulders and smile her best customer service smile and
- 16:02Speaker 1: kind of chuckles, and she's like, Frederica, there are some
- 16:07Speaker 1: things you shouldn't say. Frederica looks terrified and she's just
- 16:11Speaker 1: nodding wildly a onjo and THEO says, well, you're someone
- 16:15Speaker 1: you can count on. That's enough, right. Karna stands up
- 16:19Speaker 1: and she's kind of like got her hand on her
- 16:20Speaker 1: head because she hit it when she like fainted or whatever,
- 16:23Speaker 1: and she's like, yeah, I'm a good sniper. I'm useful. Oh.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Theo's like nodding and smiling, like really concerned. And then
- 16:33Speaker 1: it's night. Shin is standing by it reganlyaf outside and
- 16:38Speaker 1: he hears someone approach and he looks over and it's Fido.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Fido beeps at him and he's like, don't worry, I'm
- 16:44Speaker 1: not gonna run off on my own. Fido beeps again
- 16:47Speaker 1: and nods. Sin looks down at his hand he's holding
- 16:50Speaker 1: that piece of raised Juggernaut and he continues, I would
- 16:55Speaker 1: feel better if I did, though, fuck, he tightens his vest.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Then we get the episode title card, Episode twenty together,
- 17:04Speaker 1: Run to Death. So yeah, I really do think that
- 17:07Speaker 1: that was just the title drop, but that the translators
- 17:11Speaker 1: aren't doing a good enough job making sure it matches
- 17:13Speaker 1: up with the actual title of the episode. I want
- 17:17Speaker 1: to talk about Ridin and Shin, but I think I
- 17:21Speaker 1: want to wait till the end of the episode, So yep,
- 17:24Speaker 1: let's continue. We come back to a dead butterfly on
- 17:28Speaker 1: the train tracks. It's blue and it is like black
- 17:31Speaker 1: around the outside of its wings, and I was like,
- 17:34Speaker 1: what kind of butterfly is this? And most of the
- 17:36Speaker 1: time when I look up animals and things on the show,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I can't figure out what the fuck it is. This
- 17:41Speaker 1: time I could. Guys, it's a blue morpho. It's so
- 17:44Speaker 1: fucking cool. So the blue morpho is dead on the tracks.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yay symbolism sort of. We cut too tents and someone
- 17:54Speaker 1: like laying in a cop but he's facing away from us,
- 17:56Speaker 1: so I'm not one hundred percent sure who it is,
- 17:58Speaker 1: and dark haired approaches and says General it's time to
- 18:02Speaker 1: wake up. General Richard turns over and he's like, hmm,
- 18:06Speaker 1: dark haired guy smiles. General Richard says, what are the
- 18:10Speaker 1: eighty six doing? Dark haired Guy says, we were finally
- 18:13Speaker 1: able to sync with them. General Richard is like walking
- 18:16Speaker 1: out of the tent now, and dark haired Guy continues,
- 18:19Speaker 1: the Republic technology is very useful. General Richard says, you
- 18:23Speaker 1: finally connected. Dark haired Guy has like a bluetooth calm
- 18:26Speaker 1: looking thing on, and he's like, it roots through your consciousness.
- 18:30Speaker 1: If you're asleep, you can't be contacted. So they are
- 18:33Speaker 1: using the power raid. Like I have so many questions
- 18:36Speaker 1: about that, Like how how does that work? I could
- 18:39Speaker 1: have sworn like it had to be like rooted into you,
- 18:41Speaker 1: into like your freen or something whatever. Anyway, it's October tenth,
- 18:46Speaker 1: twenty one forty nine. Dark haired Guy continues, I can't
- 18:49Speaker 1: believe a five man force is able to get any
- 18:52Speaker 1: sleep so deep in enemy territory. General Richard's like, the
- 18:55Speaker 1: battlefield is a daily life for them, huh? It is
- 18:59Speaker 1: twenty three hour was fourteen minutes and seven seconds since
- 19:02Speaker 1: the mission began. They walk over to that like broken
- 19:05Speaker 1: railing from a few minutes ago. When they stop there,
- 19:08Speaker 1: dark haired Guy's like, where do you think they are? Now?
- 19:11Speaker 1: They're one hundred and twenty kilometers or seventy four point
- 19:15Speaker 1: five six four or five miles west of the old border.
- 19:18Speaker 1: We could marsh all night and still not catch up.
- 19:20Speaker 1: It's a little frustrating. General Richard sighs. I'm surprised. I
- 19:25Speaker 1: thought you wanted to ensure they didn't survive this battle.
- 19:28Speaker 1: What dark haired guy says, you seem to misunderstand me,
- 19:33Speaker 1: I fucking hope. So I just think that a sharp
- 19:35Speaker 1: blade should be put to good use. If we can
- 19:37Speaker 1: use that blade for a long time, all the better. Yeah.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I don't really like you, dude. General Richard doesn't look
- 19:43Speaker 1: super pleased, and dark haired guy says we can't have
- 19:46Speaker 1: the Legion taking them. General Richard kind of exhales and smiles,
- 19:50Speaker 1: and dark haired guy says we need to get them
- 19:52Speaker 1: back fast. We cut to a steamy interior of a tent.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Maybe I guess Greth kind of like open the tent
- 20:01Speaker 1: door thing and says we're starting the march before dawn.
- 20:05Speaker 1: And then she's like you guys, and she looks really disgusted,
- 20:10Speaker 1: And I'm confused because it's just a bunch of guys
- 20:12Speaker 1: and I expected them to be like naked or something.
- 20:14Speaker 1: By her reaction, so I think that what's going on
- 20:19Speaker 1: is there's a lot of cigarette smoke in the tent.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Maybe that's what happened, but it was really hard for
- 20:24Speaker 1: me to figure out at first. Anyway, Berholt's there and
- 20:27Speaker 1: he says, Roger, we're ready to go whenever. We're not
- 20:30Speaker 1: packing much equipment, as you can say, I guess. I
- 20:33Speaker 1: mean he has a rifle and that looks like nothing else.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Greth is kind of waving her hand in front of
- 20:38Speaker 1: her face to clear away the cigarette smoke, and she's like,
- 20:40Speaker 1: are you worried about them? Sergeant Brunhold says, I could
- 20:44Speaker 1: ask you the same question. Greth's like, we did all
- 20:47Speaker 1: we could, so now we just have to believe. Brunholdt says,
- 20:51Speaker 1: you say that, but just in case, you brought extra
- 20:54Speaker 1: raven Leaf's AMMO spare parts along with a repair crew.
- 20:59Speaker 1: All the way from the front line, we see a
- 21:01Speaker 1: truck coming in with extra reagon leafs. Burnhold continues, you
- 21:05Speaker 1: even force the chief of staff to authorize your transport
- 21:08Speaker 1: by air. Dark haired guy sneezes somewhere. I guess he
- 21:13Speaker 1: is the chief of staff, and Greath's like, and I
- 21:16Speaker 1: suggested that you go back to the front lines and
- 21:18Speaker 1: you refused. Burnhold is smoking, so absolutely that is cigarette smoke,
- 21:23Speaker 1: and he says, what kind of man would I be
- 21:25Speaker 1: if I did? You'd be alive. If the kids came
- 21:28Speaker 1: back after catching their big centipede and all this old
- 21:31Speaker 1: men are drinking, they'd make fun of us till the
- 21:33Speaker 1: day they die, those little brats, would He exhales some smoke.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Now it is morning and the dead butterfly is still
- 21:40Speaker 1: there on the ground. The mor fo and some ants
- 21:43Speaker 1: are starting to find it and crawl all over it
- 21:45Speaker 1: as they do, and then we see aragon Leaf stabbing something.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Maybe it's really confusing, and it is Theo's Reagan leaf
- 21:54Speaker 1: and he kind of jolts like it surprises him. And
- 21:58Speaker 1: I think what happened after with this scene for a
- 22:00Speaker 1: minute is that he like stabbed the legion and then
- 22:04Speaker 1: he got his knife stuck in it or something. It's
- 22:07Speaker 1: like a little knife. Anyway, he's like not good, and
- 22:11Speaker 1: he's like moving his controls and we see that he's
- 22:14Speaker 1: like on top of a legion and I think, yeah,
- 22:16Speaker 1: he's trying to pull his arm more or less out
- 22:19Speaker 1: of it, but it's stuck. And Andrew says, can you
- 22:23Speaker 1: get it out to you. He goes like, I don't
- 22:25Speaker 1: think so, it's not moving at all. I'm purging it.
- 22:28Speaker 1: He shoots at I think the arm and then jumps off,
- 22:32Speaker 1: so he like broke his Reaganly arm sort of to
- 22:35Speaker 1: get out. I mean they have lots of arms, they're
- 22:38Speaker 1: like got lots of legs or whatever, but I think
- 22:40Speaker 1: you still need them anyway. Ryding's like laughing. Fox was
- 22:44Speaker 1: damaged too, Huh. We're taking more damage than I expected.
- 22:47Speaker 1: They're kind of in the ruins of some building. And
- 22:50Speaker 1: Karina says, Andre and I got some shrapnel the other day,
- 22:54Speaker 1: and when you were blasted back, you lost a machine gun.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Too much exposition. He knows that he lost the machine gun, right,
- 23:00Speaker 1: AND's like, only undertaker safe. Huh. He's out of spare
- 23:03Speaker 1: bleeds though. We hear Shinn say, no, my engine hasn't
- 23:07Speaker 1: been working right since yesterday. I think I put too
- 23:09Speaker 1: much stress on it during the first battle. Right, AND's like,
- 23:13Speaker 1: you haven't fixed your bad habit of destroying Reagan Leaf's legs.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Sen's like, I think I can keep it patched up
- 23:18Speaker 1: with repairs for a while if nothing else. It's not
- 23:21Speaker 1: so bad that I can't move. We're seeing like this
- 23:24Speaker 1: weird low shot that's like panning past all of them
- 23:26Speaker 1: because they're actually pretty far apart, and we like get
- 23:29Speaker 1: towards like some actual legion now and then like all
- 23:33Speaker 1: the way to Shin who's in front of the legion
- 23:35Speaker 1: that he's just killed. And Righton says, but if you
- 23:40Speaker 1: put too much stress on it, it'll break. Don't get
- 23:42Speaker 1: too crazy, Sheen says. Given the amount of AMMO and
- 23:45Speaker 1: energy packs we have on hand, tomorrow will be the
- 23:47Speaker 1: last day of our pursuits. We'll probably catch up before that,
- 23:51Speaker 1: but it'd be a good idea to ensure we last
- 23:53Speaker 1: till then, right, AND's like until we catch up to it. Huh, Roger,
- 23:59Speaker 1: there are are There are a ton of ants on
- 24:01Speaker 1: the butterfly. Now we cut to a trolley on a
- 24:05Speaker 1: city street that's just covered in vines and there's some
- 24:08Speaker 1: birds on top of it, and there are brick buildings
- 24:10Speaker 1: in the background. Then we see like an overgrown park
- 24:14Speaker 1: or square with a statue of sand magnolia and it's
- 24:17Speaker 1: holding the five colored flag. So we're in Republic's territory again.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I guess I don't think we're close enough that these
- 24:25Speaker 1: are cities that were like okay until a little bit ago.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I think we're in kind of that dead area between
- 24:30Speaker 1: the places. Anyway, Daisies are growing out of a crack
- 24:34Speaker 1: in the pavement. Frederica is watching the scenery from Ryding's
- 24:38Speaker 1: lap as they passed this river, and she starts to
- 24:41Speaker 1: remember Shin's memories of the last trip when they thought
- 24:44Speaker 1: they were going to their death. And then we see
- 24:48Speaker 1: like a golden field as sunsets, and it's thirty five hours,
- 24:53Speaker 1: forty four minutes and twenty two seconds since the mission started.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Frederica says, it's like the sea. There's standing on top
- 25:00Speaker 1: of a hill sort of and looking out over this
- 25:03Speaker 1: flat golden field like maybe his wheat in it or something,
- 25:07Speaker 1: and the sun is low and it's like glinting off
- 25:11Speaker 1: of it, and since it's just the beginning of sunset,
- 25:13Speaker 1: there were pink clouds kind of drifting slowly overhead, and
- 25:17Speaker 1: there's a slight breeze. They're all standing close together looking
- 25:22Speaker 1: out over this field, except for Shin, who is kind
- 25:26Speaker 1: of by himself next to a regan leaf on the
- 25:29Speaker 1: left side of the screen, where everyone else is on
- 25:31Speaker 1: the right. And Frederica says, have any of you seen
- 25:34Speaker 1: the ocean, Karina says, I don't think I have on
- 25:38Speaker 1: just like I thought I saw it on a transport
- 25:41Speaker 1: between combat districts. But looking back, I may have been wrong.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Theo says, not the ocean, but there was a big
- 25:48Speaker 1: lake near me. I'd go play there a lot, right,
- 25:51Speaker 1: and says my elementary school had a field trip to
- 25:53Speaker 1: take kids to the ocean, but the war started first.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Frederica is like me, neither, I've never seen anything like
- 26:00Speaker 1: this before. There's so much I don't know. They're all
- 26:04Speaker 1: just like staring and silently reflecting on all this shit,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and Frederica continues, I want to go see the ocean.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I want to go swimming. I'm sure it's lots of fun.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Karina says, to see huh. She stands, Yeah, that might
- 26:20Speaker 1: be fun. Theo also stands and he's like, how about
- 26:24Speaker 1: a tropical island, coral coconut trees, white beaches are says,
- 26:30Speaker 1: I'd love to see an ocean of ice in the
- 26:31Speaker 1: north too. They say, when it's really cold, you can
- 26:34Speaker 1: walk across it. Carina is like wow, and Rydon says,
- 26:38Speaker 1: where'd you hear that? We cut to shin we can
- 26:42Speaker 1: really just see his mouth and his lips are like
- 26:45Speaker 1: just kind of quivering slightly. And I didn't realize that
- 26:49Speaker 1: until I watched it this time, and it's fucking killing me.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Aunt says, I saw it in a pamphlet for a
- 26:55Speaker 1: travel company. Shin opens his mouth like he's gonna say something,
- 26:58Speaker 1: and everyone's except for Anju's like really. Shin kind of
- 27:04Speaker 1: gives up and closes his mouth again, and it's quiet,
- 27:08Speaker 1: and they are all just staring at him, like really
- 27:11Speaker 1: concerned as he looks out over the field and he
- 27:15Speaker 1: doesn't even notice. Karina turns back towards the field and says,
- 27:19Speaker 1: let's go all of us when the war's over. It's
- 27:24Speaker 1: night now, and we see the butterfly again. It's mostly
- 27:28Speaker 1: been eaten at this point, except for like little scraps
- 27:31Speaker 1: of its body and wings, and also its head is
- 27:34Speaker 1: still there, which is not how it would really happen.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Some of the pieces of its wings scatter in the breeze,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and then we cut to Spearhead except for Shin asleep
- 27:46Speaker 1: on some cots. They're in some sort of domed building,
- 27:49Speaker 1: like I don't know, like a sports complex or a something.
- 27:54Speaker 1: There are some holes in the ceiling where moonlight is
- 27:56Speaker 1: streaming in. It's like a glass ceiling, and it's forty
- 27:59Speaker 1: four hours, thirty minutes and three seconds since the mission began.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Shin is in a different area of the building, just
- 28:06Speaker 1: by himself with a rifle, like sitting under this really
- 28:10Speaker 1: large hole in like a concrete ceiling with like rebar
- 28:13Speaker 1: sticking out and shit, it's pretty cool but looks dangerous.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Fido is there too, He's like several feet away, just
- 28:20Speaker 1: kind of watching, and Chin says, Fido, Fido beeps. Sin's like,
- 28:26Speaker 1: I ordered you to switch to stand by mode until
- 28:28Speaker 1: I wake you up tomorrow. Fido makes some like weird noises.
- 28:32Speaker 1: There aren't exactly beeps, and Chin says, fine, if that's
- 28:36Speaker 1: what you want to do. He hears footsteps and looks up.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Frederica is walking over and she says, I thought it
- 28:43Speaker 1: was weird that I heard you talking so much. It's
- 28:45Speaker 1: because you're talking to Fido. Huh. Chin's like, yeah, we
- 28:50Speaker 1: got too, I guess. A few minutes later, because there's
- 28:52Speaker 1: a campstove with like a pot on top, and Frederica
- 28:55Speaker 1: is sitting on this chunk of concrete near Shin, drinking
- 28:58Speaker 1: something hot. She kind of sighs, and Chin says, what
- 29:02Speaker 1: is it? Frederica is like, I felt that I understood
- 29:05Speaker 1: you a little today. I looked at the scenery the
- 29:08Speaker 1: whole time. It was so beautiful. If you lived your
- 29:12Speaker 1: whole lives surrounded by that scenery, then I felt maybe
- 29:15Speaker 1: I could understand the reason we see flashbacks from earlier
- 29:18Speaker 1: in the day, the reason you're so disinterested in humanity,
- 29:22Speaker 1: survival and your own lives. What the beauty exists only
- 29:26Speaker 1: because there are no humans here. I don't think this
- 29:30Speaker 1: is what is going on with them, Frederica. But okay,
- 29:33Speaker 1: we got to a pink stuffed bunny on the ground.
- 29:36Speaker 1: It's got ripped seams with like little bits of cotton
- 29:39Speaker 1: coming out. Yay. Frederica continues, Maybe that scenery is what
- 29:45Speaker 1: the legion want. They have a closeup of the bunny's
- 29:48Speaker 1: head with its sad eyes. Shin's like, I don't know.
- 29:54Speaker 1: They may not want anything. Frederica kind of gasps. Shin continues,
- 29:58Speaker 1: their ghosts goes aren't supposed to want anything. Shin. Frederica's like,
- 30:06Speaker 1: how do you know? Shin says, because I'm the same.
- 30:10Speaker 1: We're only seeing his mouth now, and there's a pause
- 30:14Speaker 1: that night I failed to die, and I think I'm
- 30:17Speaker 1: still dead. Ever since then, I haven't been able to
- 30:20Speaker 1: want anything. Frederica is just kind of staring at him intently.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Shin looks away. I don't want to see the ocean.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I don't have anything I want to do or any
- 30:30Speaker 1: place I want to go. It doesn't really cause me
- 30:34Speaker 1: any problems, but I kind of understand now that not
- 30:37Speaker 1: being able to have something small that you want to do,
- 30:40Speaker 1: like our conversation at dusk, is bizarre. Frederica says, but
- 30:47Speaker 1: last fall was fun, wasn't it. Shin looks at her.
- 30:51Speaker 1: She continues, when you left the eighty six districts, it
- 30:55Speaker 1: was the first time you were able to decide everything
- 30:57Speaker 1: for yourself, the first time you had freedom. Right. Shin
- 31:02Speaker 1: tightens his fist and then relaxes it slightly and says,
- 31:07Speaker 1: it was fun because I thought it would be over soon. Yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I thought we'd die out there without anyone ever knowing
- 31:17Speaker 1: what happened to us. But we survived. Unfortunately, I was
- 31:22Speaker 1: supposed to die. The future is too long for someone
- 31:26Speaker 1: like me. At this point, the flame on the camp
- 31:30Speaker 1: stove has gone out. Shin says, I'm not your knight.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Frederica makes a noise. Shin continues, I knew that, but
- 31:41Speaker 1: I'm sorry for using your night as an excuse. I'm
- 31:44Speaker 1: still going as far as I can, but my brother
- 31:46Speaker 1: isn't here anymore, so I wanted another goal that could
- 31:49Speaker 1: take its place for a while. Frederick is like, I
- 31:53Speaker 1: don't think that's all. Shin looks over. She continues, you
- 31:57Speaker 1: should be aware that you're looking in the mirror of
- 31:59Speaker 1: the wrong way. She stands. You're not nearly as cold
- 32:03Speaker 1: as you think you are. You're a softy reaper. If
- 32:06Speaker 1: nothing else, I can release Kiri because you agreed to
- 32:09Speaker 1: help me. I was so sad seeing him crying and
- 32:12Speaker 1: trapped within the battlefield. I wanted to free him. I
- 32:16Speaker 1: wanted to be freed from being forced to see his misery.
- 32:19Speaker 1: But she grips her jacket tightly with one hand and
- 32:22Speaker 1: she puts her other arm over her eyes. I'm scared
- 32:26Speaker 1: of Kiri dying. I'm terrified of losing him. Shin just
- 32:31Speaker 1: kind of stares at her. The credits start to roll.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Frederica continues, the Frederivacy doesn't need a child like me.
- 32:38Speaker 1: It's a republic now. Just by being alive, I could
- 32:41Speaker 1: potentially start a war. It's better for every one if
- 32:44Speaker 1: I'm not here. But I thought I had to stay
- 32:46Speaker 1: alive to put an end to my night's life. But
- 32:49Speaker 1: if Kirie dies, that excuse will cease to exist. Shin
- 32:53Speaker 1: puts his hand on his shoulder. Frederica continues, and that
- 32:57Speaker 1: scares me. She clenches her fist. The only reason you're
- 33:01Speaker 1: terrified of going forward right now, she kneels down to
- 33:04Speaker 1: be closer to him, is that you tried to see
- 33:06Speaker 1: the future for what it is, because you tried to
- 33:09Speaker 1: look directly at the dark, untrodden path before you. Shin
- 33:13Speaker 1: looks away. No, Frederica is like, it's nothing to be
- 33:16Speaker 1: ashamed of, and while you're doing it, at least let
- 33:19Speaker 1: those who are around you support you. That's what companions
- 33:22Speaker 1: are for. That's why people come together. Shin says. Brighten
- 33:28Speaker 1: said the same thing. Frederica is like, then just admit
- 33:31Speaker 1: he was right, and Shin cuts her off. I'm not
- 33:34Speaker 1: like them. Frederica makes like a little confused noise. Shin continues.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Not having any wishes is the same as not wanting
- 33:41Speaker 1: to be alive. I'm the only one of us who
- 33:45Speaker 1: still isn't truly alive. I'm just the reaper. The ending
- 33:49Speaker 1: theme starts up at this point, he continues, and the
- 33:53Speaker 1: ones who call me that will some day go on
- 33:54Speaker 1: ahead and leave me behind. There's this long pause as
- 33:58Speaker 1: Frederica just stares at him and shut Shin has his
- 34:01Speaker 1: head down and he looks maybe kind of ashamed. As
- 34:05Speaker 1: shooting Star goes across the sky, we can see it
- 34:08Speaker 1: from the holeless ceiling. We see the butterfly again, and
- 34:11Speaker 1: this time it has all gone except for the head.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that's supposed to mean something is October eleventh,
- 34:20Speaker 1: twenty one forty nine. The wind kicks up and blows
- 34:23Speaker 1: the head away, and sparkles appear in the air, and
- 34:27Speaker 1: a mass of legion approaches in the background, and it
- 34:29Speaker 1: just overtakes the camera. We cut to Katy spreading his
- 34:34Speaker 1: wings and we hear him say pale Rider to no Face,
- 34:38Speaker 1: beginning combat operations. No face says no Face Roger. We
- 34:43Speaker 1: see Katy's blue face, and No Face continues. There's new
- 34:47Speaker 1: information to share from the wide area network. We found
- 34:50Speaker 1: traces of an enemy unit within our territory. From the
- 34:53Speaker 1: information available, it appears they're pursuing you. You already begin
- 34:57Speaker 1: searching for them in the vicinity of your operations here
- 35:00Speaker 1: kitties like Roger, he thinks about Shin's symbol and he
- 35:05Speaker 1: grins widely, and then that's like the ending theme picture.
- 35:11Speaker 1: So his face is like really dark blue and his
- 35:13Speaker 1: teeth are red, and then we see the next episode
- 35:16Speaker 1: title card. All that's left and that's it. Yay, So
- 35:23Speaker 1: like closing thoughts. Yeah, so we learned possibly a lot
- 35:29Speaker 1: about Chinn in this episode. One of my favorite things
- 35:33Speaker 1: is like when a character is in a conversation with
- 35:36Speaker 1: another character and the other character is telling them about themselves,
- 35:39Speaker 1: like you are like this, and instead of that character
- 35:42Speaker 1: being like, oh, you're right, I understand everything now, they
- 35:45Speaker 1: just push back and they say, no, you're totally wrong
- 35:47Speaker 1: about this. I just like that. I don't know why.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I think it's because maybe when people say things to
- 35:54Speaker 1: me about me, I just go like, oh, you're probably
- 35:56Speaker 1: right instead of pushing back. And I wish that I
- 35:58Speaker 1: was just like, no, no, I really do want to die.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I don't really want to die. I'm just using this
- 36:03Speaker 1: as an example. I'm actually very scared of dying, don't worry.
- 36:08Speaker 1: So I think the main thing about this episode that
- 36:12Speaker 1: is important is those two conversations between Shin and Rydan
- 36:15Speaker 1: and Shinden Frederica. So they both don't understand, right, Rydin
- 36:22Speaker 1: kind of gets it. He understands that something is very
- 36:24Speaker 1: wrong with Chin. You know, there's nothing that is influencing
- 36:27Speaker 1: Shin at all. This is just Shin being Shin, but
- 36:31Speaker 1: something is wrong and things have gotten worse. He is deteriorating.
- 36:36Speaker 1: And I thought it was just really really interesting when
- 36:41Speaker 1: Ryden was like, you didn't go all through that just
- 36:44Speaker 1: to kill your brother, like there was supposed to be
- 36:46Speaker 1: more like, and Shin's just like there was like why
- 36:51Speaker 1: did I do it? Then? Like, because he's pretty closed
- 36:55Speaker 1: off and he's not gonna express like, hey, I want
- 36:58Speaker 1: to kill my brother so I can die. But that's
- 37:00Speaker 1: absolutely what it was. He was seeing that mission, that
- 37:05Speaker 1: last mission with San Magnolia as like that was the
- 37:08Speaker 1: end of him. That was going to be where he
- 37:11Speaker 1: stops existing, and that was fine with him. He did
- 37:14Speaker 1: peace with it, and he's just been forced to continue
- 37:19Speaker 1: way past what he thought he'd have to. And yeah,
- 37:24Speaker 1: I understand Ryden's anger because he's not being a good captain.
- 37:28Speaker 1: He's not there consistently for the people he's leading because
- 37:34Speaker 1: he's being so reckless because he wants to die. So yeah,
- 37:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I think we can just kind of
- 37:44Speaker 1: relate that to Frederica's conversation with him too, Like nobody
- 37:49Speaker 1: gets it, right, I just said that already, but still,
- 37:52Speaker 1: like it was nice to hear him come out and say,
- 37:57Speaker 1: I don't want to do this anymore, because I think
- 38:02Speaker 1: maybe you noticed for a long time that Shin didn't
- 38:07Speaker 1: want to do this anymore. Like he's got nothing going
- 38:11Speaker 1: for him, I mean, besides being like a really talented pilot.
- 38:16Speaker 1: His family is all dead, his brother tried to kill him,
- 38:20Speaker 1: and he probably still blames himself for everything because it's
- 38:25Speaker 1: really hard to overcome trauma like that. When you're a
- 38:28Speaker 1: kid and someone you love tells you something, even if
- 38:30Speaker 1: it's not true, it sticks. And Anju had kind of
- 38:34Speaker 1: pointed that out too, So he hates himself. He doesn't
- 38:40Speaker 1: have anyone. I mean, he's got these people around him now,
- 38:43Speaker 1: but his whole history of fighting at least has just
- 38:48Speaker 1: been people dying around him and him being the person
- 38:52Speaker 1: who has to kill them to let them go, and
- 38:55Speaker 1: them thanking him. And he doesn't want to lose everyone.
- 39:00Speaker 1: You know like he's got no one who he feels
- 39:03Speaker 1: is going to be a consistent presence in his life.
- 39:06Speaker 1: And he's right to think that. I mean, it's obvious
- 39:10Speaker 1: that he knows that it's only a matter of time
- 39:12Speaker 1: until ryden Anju corrina An THEEO die or he has
- 39:17Speaker 1: to kill them, and he will be alone. And he
- 39:21Speaker 1: doesn't even know why he's here in the first place anymore,
- 39:24Speaker 1: because he doesn't want anything. And that's not true, first
- 39:27Speaker 1: of all, because he desperately wants to not be here anymore.
- 39:31Speaker 1: So he does have a desirous desires just to die
- 39:35Speaker 1: and also to stop losing the people that he loves,
- 39:38Speaker 1: but he doesn't believe that that's possible. And for a
- 39:40Speaker 1: second there, a little bit earlier on the show, he
- 39:45Speaker 1: had Lena, and for some reason he really really connected
- 39:49Speaker 1: with her. He wanted her to stay alive, and maybe
- 39:53Speaker 1: he thought she'd get to be that person who gets
- 39:56Speaker 1: to carry on for him, the person who was still
- 39:59Speaker 1: going to be there when he died, who maybe couldn't
- 40:02Speaker 1: comfort him, but was gonna remember him, was going to
- 40:07Speaker 1: take him forward the way that he's been taking the
- 40:11Speaker 1: rest of his comrades forward this whole time. Someone to
- 40:15Speaker 1: kind of pass on the I don't know, metaphorical torch too.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I think the whole thing with when he wrote in
- 40:21Speaker 1: the note like one day, if you reach our final destination,
- 40:25Speaker 1: will you leave flowers was kind of like that. It
- 40:28Speaker 1: was like, please be there and remember me. And now
- 40:34Speaker 1: that San Magnolia has probably fallen and Lena is probably dead,
- 40:39Speaker 1: it's just another blow of Oh, everyone I care about
- 40:43Speaker 1: goes on ahead of me, and I have to stay
- 40:46Speaker 1: here basically forever and just watch everyone else die and
- 40:52Speaker 1: it sucks. And on top of that, he's hearing like
- 40:56Speaker 1: Legion's voices constantly, and some of them are just his
- 40:59Speaker 1: dead calm calling out like their final thoughts, which are
- 41:02Speaker 1: just like I want to go home and I want
- 41:04Speaker 1: my mom and shit all the time, twenty four hours
- 41:08Speaker 1: a day, and he's exhausted and he doesn't want to
- 41:11Speaker 1: do this anymore, and I understand, like why would he
- 41:15Speaker 1: want to? What does he have? And in a way,
- 41:19Speaker 1: his comrades are sort of in the same position as him,
- 41:22Speaker 1: but not because they have been able to look to
- 41:26Speaker 1: him for comfort, because they believe he's gonna make it.
- 41:30Speaker 1: He's gonna be there even if they die, He'll be
- 41:34Speaker 1: there to comfort them. They're not going to die alone.
- 41:36Speaker 1: And also they don't want to die. They you know, believe,
- 41:41Speaker 1: like most people believe that it's not going to be them,
- 41:44Speaker 1: you know, that die, and even if it is, Shin's there,
- 41:49Speaker 1: so it's not going to be too scary. Like, but
- 41:51Speaker 1: Chin doesn't have anyone who's gonna be there when he dies.
- 41:54Speaker 1: No one's gonna save him for the legion, like taking
- 41:57Speaker 1: his head, because no one's capable of it. So it
- 42:00Speaker 1: just seems like he's just marching towards a really upsetting end.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Oh it's that fucking law dispute song again, marching towards
- 42:10Speaker 1: a curtain call that no one asks for and no
- 42:13Speaker 1: one wants to happen, but it still has to be. Yeah. So,
- 42:20Speaker 1: and I think it just hurts him to be around
- 42:22Speaker 1: all these people who have hopes because he just doesn't
- 42:27Speaker 1: have that, and he doesn't know how he can have that.
- 42:29Speaker 1: You know, he is very very clinically depressed. Yeah so,
- 42:39Speaker 1: I don't know. I think I'm just tangenting here, But
- 42:41Speaker 1: I thought that was great. I thought finally just having
- 42:45Speaker 1: him come out and say, like, listen, guys, I basically
- 42:49Speaker 1: want to die or at least listen Frederica, I basically
- 42:52Speaker 1: want to die. Especially when she's like, you're just scared,
- 42:55Speaker 1: He's like, no, like I'm not scared, Like I want
- 42:57Speaker 1: to die. Was just really really good and also probably
- 43:01Speaker 1: good for him because he wants to talk about it.
- 43:05Speaker 1: He wants to share his emotions, and it was very
- 43:07Speaker 1: clear when they were standing on that fields talking about
- 43:12Speaker 1: the ocean that he just kind of wants to be
- 43:14Speaker 1: heard and he can't. He doesn't know how to say
- 43:18Speaker 1: it because it'll hurt them to hear that too, you know.
- 43:23Speaker 1: So where do we go from here? Is Shinn going
- 43:26Speaker 1: to find his release and death? That would be very
- 43:31Speaker 1: convenient for him, so I don't think. So does he
- 43:36Speaker 1: eventually get better? Does he figure out how to have
- 43:39Speaker 1: hopes and dreams and not just feel like everything is
- 43:42Speaker 1: going to be a disaster forever? I hope. So. I
- 43:46Speaker 1: hope he doesn't lose the rest of his comrades. I
- 43:49Speaker 1: hope that the cycle stops. You know that he's not
- 43:52Speaker 1: just the thing that takes lives away gently and kindly,
- 43:59Speaker 1: but is something that is valued for other reasons. Yeah, yeah,
- 44:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna make myself cry. So yeah, I really like
- 44:16Speaker 1: this and This is probably the kind of big thing
- 44:20Speaker 1: that makes me like Shin because I like depressed people.
- 44:23Speaker 1: I don't know, He's just such an interesting character to me,
- 44:27Speaker 1: and this episode just really gave me what I wanted,
- 44:30Speaker 1: both of those interactions with him, which is really important
- 44:35Speaker 1: and satisfying. So I think we have like three episodes
- 44:39Speaker 1: left twenty one, twenty two, twenty three. I think I'm
- 44:41Speaker 1: right about that, So I hope you're interested to see
- 44:45Speaker 1: where this ends. I heard recently, if Twitter is correct,
- 44:49Speaker 1: that the light novel series is going into its final arc,
- 44:54Speaker 1: so that's something. I think there's like fifteen light novels
- 44:58Speaker 1: or something. There's definitely a bunch of them, so we
- 45:02Speaker 1: should probably pick them up again. But yeah, hopefully next
- 45:08Speaker 1: week will be I mean, it'll be interesting to see
- 45:11Speaker 1: where we go from this and how Shin acts because
- 45:15Speaker 1: you know, right and is right, like, he can't take
- 45:19Speaker 1: them down with him, so he has to keep fighting
- 45:22Speaker 1: right now, so that not everyone dies. So yeah, they
- 45:29Speaker 1: gotta go confront Katie. Yep. Anyway, that's all I got.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I think. I hope you have a really good whatever,
- 45:40Speaker 1: and yeah, I'll see you when I see you, which
- 45:44Speaker 1: is going to be next week. Unless something happens later,
- 45:47Speaker 1: weeps
