- 0:13Speaker 4: Flynn is back to throw for the end zone ball.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Live from the Raising Cane Studio, here's Jacob Hester and
- 0:22Speaker 1: Matt Flynn.
- 0:23Speaker 5: Off the bench.
- 0:40Speaker 6: Welcome in OTB here on this Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning
- 0:50Speaker 6: is brought to you by friends over at Poncho. Ponchooutdoors.com
- 0:55Speaker 6: slash off the bench. Jake, Flynn, Alondra, Tay-Tay, the Wolfpack
- 1:00Speaker 6: all here with you.
- 1:03Speaker 7: Is this most consecutive days the Wolfpack's been together since like.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Last year?
- 1:08Speaker 8: June?
- 1:09Speaker 2: Last football season?
- 1:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Before Jake started taking all them days off? Just vacationing.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I know. He's kicking his feet up. In Rochester, New York. Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Yeah,
- 1:22Speaker 2: it's nice up there.
- 1:23Speaker 5: I've heard of that.
- 1:24Speaker 2: In July and August? Ooh, nice. There was a custard
- 1:28Speaker 2: place in Latrobe.
- 1:30Speaker 6: Ooh.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Real good.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 1:32Speaker 2: It's real good. You have to ask Aaron about it.
- 1:34Speaker 2: We'll put a nice custard in front of Jake. He'll
- 1:37Speaker 2: love it. It's going to get deleted.
- 1:40Speaker 5: I had a custard last night.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Meadows. In case anybody's up ever in Latrobe. Meadows.
- 1:46Speaker 5: That sounds good.
- 1:47Speaker 2: You had a custard last night?
- 1:48Speaker 5: I went to Andy's last night.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Andy's hits, too. Okay. Okay.
- 1:52Speaker 8: I don't know for sure if this is true. I'm
- 1:58Speaker 8: going to report it.
- 1:59Speaker 7: I love when you start a sentence like that.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, obviously.
- 2:01Speaker 8: I think one of the, well, I'm just going to
- 2:03Speaker 8: say one of the early ones. There was an Andy's
- 2:05Speaker 8: in Tyler, Texas when I was there, like early on.
- 2:08Speaker 8: And I don't know if it was the first one
- 2:09Speaker 8: or not, but it was.
- 2:10Speaker 2: The first one's in Kansas City.
- 2:12Speaker 7: Is it?
- 2:12Speaker 2: Like he studied this.
- 2:15Speaker 9: My in-laws lived in Kansas City. And maybe it's Kansas
- 2:19Speaker 9: or Kansas City. My in-laws lived wherever the first one was.
- 2:22Speaker 9: That's how I know that.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Oh, interesting. And my in-laws. When was the first one?
- 2:26Speaker 2: Early 90s.
- 2:27Speaker 7: Okay.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And.
- 2:31Speaker 9: My in-laws loved it so much that they started their
- 2:34Speaker 9: own custard business off of Andy's.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Okay. I know a lot about custard. Was it called Randy's?
- 2:39Speaker 2: It was. That'd be good.
- 2:40Speaker 7: Sandy's.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Sandy's. Yeah, it was.
- 2:42Speaker 7: Wow.
- 2:44Speaker 5: Yeah, Springfield, so I guess near there.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Cooley's. That was the name of theirs, Cooley's. Cooley's. Yeah. Oh,
- 2:49Speaker 2: that's cool. It's a cool treat. Tyler has an Andy's. Yes,
- 2:54Speaker 2: they do, right there on Broadway, South Broadway. So it's two.
- 2:59Speaker 7: Oh.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Watch out, Tyler. Metropolis?
- 3:06Speaker 8: I guess I can't say what I always say about it.
- 3:11Speaker 2: People say, hey, what's growing up in Tyler? I was like,
- 3:13Speaker 2: it was great. It's a bright size.
- 3:15Speaker 8: It's got everything a big city has, just has one
- 3:17Speaker 8: of everything.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Now we got two. It's not that big of a deal.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Look out. It's amazing that that population can support two
- 3:26Speaker 2: frozen custard chops.
- 3:29Speaker 5: One on each side of town.
- 3:31Speaker 2: It was popping. It was busy.
- 3:33Speaker 5: When I went last night, it was popping.
- 3:35Speaker 2: They get you through there quick, though.
- 3:37Speaker 5: They do, yeah. Because the line was long, and she
- 3:39Speaker 5: was like.
- 3:41Speaker 9: Imagine if everyone, if every service like that had Raising Cane's, Chick-fil-A,
- 3:47Speaker 9: or Andy's service.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I know.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Not everybody does.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Think about it.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Just imagine. Yeah. Imagine if Whataburger had that kind of service.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I'd go every day.
- 3:59Speaker 8: Like, look, we almost went to Whataburger after the game
- 4:01Speaker 8: yesterday because we were leaving. No one's eating because we
- 4:04Speaker 8: had to be there at 445 or 5. We stayed
- 4:07Speaker 8: for y'all's game for a little bit. And everyone's hungry.
- 4:10Speaker 8: I'm like, well, we're here. We're close to Seagate. Let's
- 4:13Speaker 8: go to Whataburger. I was like, wait, last time I
- 4:15Speaker 8: was there, I was in line for 30 minutes. I
- 4:18Speaker 8: was like, I'm not going to that one ever again.
- 4:20Speaker 8: That one, that might be the one. The one closer
- 4:24Speaker 8: to campus is much better. It's the second worst one
- 4:25Speaker 8: in the country. It's got to be. There's one in
- 4:27Speaker 8: Shreveport that's worse. That's the second worst one. The one
- 4:30Speaker 8: by elite is much better. It gets you in and out.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It's the one in Shreveport by the interstate. Yes. I've
- 4:36Speaker 2: been to that one. It's horrendous. I've been to it.
- 4:41Speaker 8: If you go there, you've got to pack a lunch
- 4:46Speaker 8: to go to that Whataburger.
- 4:47Speaker 2: It took us a little while. You have to pack
- 4:49Speaker 2: a lunch to go get your dinner. It's terrible.
- 4:53Speaker 8: Yeah, it's bad. Service matters, guys. You got to be
- 4:58Speaker 8: a people person. That's what they say.
- 5:00Speaker 7: That's why I never worked in the service industry.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Because you're not a people person?
- 5:03Speaker 5: I did at the bar.
- 5:05Speaker 2: You're pretty good with people. Don't sell yourself short.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Stupid people I can't deal with.
- 5:10Speaker 9: As soon as somebody steps out of line, a lot
- 5:13Speaker 9: is going to let you know.
- 5:14Speaker 5: The customer is not always right. And I couldn't agree
- 5:17Speaker 5: with you if you weren't.
- 5:19Speaker 9: What job did you do before you did this? Just
- 5:22Speaker 9: the family bar?
- 5:23Speaker 7: So, no, I didn't work there until I went back
- 5:26Speaker 7: to Texas during COVID. I would just do, like, I
- 5:30Speaker 7: don't know. Since college, I worked at the LSU Sports
- 5:33Speaker 7: Radio Network.
- 5:33Speaker 2: True.
- 5:34Speaker 5: I worked at Barnes & Noble for a really small
- 5:36Speaker 5: amount of time.
- 5:37Speaker 2: That sounds horrible.
- 5:39Speaker 5: It actually wasn't that bad. I actually kind of enjoyed it.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you probably read. Me, Jake. Me, Jake. Not so much. They're, like,
- 5:48Speaker 2: paging Jake. They're, like, Jake, get out of the kids' section. Yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But the pop-up books are so cool.
- 5:54Speaker 5: My first shot was Six Flags. But I didn't really
- 5:57Speaker 5: have to deal with people. Yeah, true.
- 5:59Speaker 2: You do bring up a very good point about service energy.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Service energy.
- 6:03Speaker 5: It's okay. We were going to move past it.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I wasn't even going to say anything. It's okay.
- 6:07Speaker 5: What were you going to say?
- 6:08Speaker 2: We're used to it at this point, man. Yeah. Just
- 6:10Speaker 2: roll with it. I say words wrong all the time.
- 6:12Speaker 2: They're hard. The customer is not always right. No. Sometimes
- 6:14Speaker 2: the customer is dumb and wrong.
- 6:16Speaker 8: Yes.
- 6:17Speaker 5: And I'm not going to agree with you if you're
- 6:19Speaker 5: wrong and stupid.
- 6:20Speaker 2: That's true.
- 6:21Speaker 10: Fair.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It's like, no, we don't have that on the menu. Yes,
- 6:24Speaker 2: you do. No, we don't. Look at the menu. Well,
- 6:27Speaker 2: I got it once. I don't think any of us
- 6:29Speaker 2: in this room would be great at it.
- 6:32Speaker 8: I'd always thought I'd be a good bartender.
- 6:35Speaker 4: I was semi-service industry. I worked at a grocery store.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Okay. I wound up having to be the produce manager.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Not a big deal. Don't treat me any different.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Well, and then the problem was, like, a dude came up.
- 6:47Speaker 4: He's like, do you have this? And it was, like,
- 6:49Speaker 4: some obscure fruit.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I'm like... No, we don't have that. Sir, this is LP.
- 6:54Speaker 2: We got bananas, apples, oranges.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Well, I got it here last week, and I was like,
- 7:00Speaker 4: we've never had that. Like, we don't have starfruit here
- 7:02Speaker 4: in Livingston, Louisiana. And he goes, word for word, can
- 7:07Speaker 4: I speak to the department head?
- 7:08Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, I am the department head.
- 7:11Speaker 2: And I'm in college at this point. You're looking at him, bud.
- 7:14Speaker 2: He goes, yeah, that can't be true, and just walked off.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I'm like, dude. Oh, you should have hit him with the,
- 7:21Speaker 2: you're looking at him, pal. It was the worst. People
- 7:25Speaker 2: were so mean.
- 7:26Speaker 5: Working at the bar was fine because as a bartender,
- 7:28Speaker 5: you could be rude. You know, like bartenders, they're rude.
- 7:32Speaker 7: And then my grandparents obviously owned it, so I never
- 7:35Speaker 7: got in trouble for anything.
- 7:37Speaker 5: I always loved when people would be like, I know
- 7:38Speaker 5: the owner. And I'd be like, me too. Go let
- 7:42Speaker 5: them know that I'm doing.
- 7:43Speaker 2: This, please. Yeah, really. We're blood. So they know me.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So go ahead. I never had one of those.
- 7:51Speaker 8: I mean, I don't think you would like the only
- 7:54Speaker 8: job that I've ever had was playing football.
- 7:56Speaker 9: This and then Katie and I mowed lawns in high
- 8:00Speaker 9: school together.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Nice.
- 8:02Speaker 9: Their family owned a rental shop. So mowers and weed
- 8:05Speaker 9: eaters and edgers like the whole thing.
- 8:07Speaker 5: That's so good.
- 8:08Speaker 2: And we had probably, I don't know, eight to 10
- 8:12Speaker 2: yards that we used to do. All right. Yeah. How
- 8:16Speaker 2: much a yard?
- 8:16Speaker 4: 50 bucks.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I think, but it was like full like mowing, weed eating, edging, everything, everything. Yeah.
- 8:24Speaker 9: Got her grandma. Her grandma had this hill and it
- 8:27Speaker 9: was like, you had to push mower. And it's kind
- 8:28Speaker 9: of how I got in shape to get here. Like
- 8:31Speaker 9: you're just, cause you could have, I could have, you know,
- 8:33Speaker 9: gotten on a riding lawnmower, but I'm like, this is
- 8:34Speaker 9: going to get us in shape.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Just straight up. He'll just push it. Oh my God.
- 8:39Speaker 4: My yard's on a slight slope.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Like you can't tell from the street, even when you're mowing.
- 8:43Speaker 2: So like when I'm going to one side, I'm pushing up.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah. It's not great. And you're getting old too.
- 8:48Speaker 2: It's true. He's a dad now. He's a dad. Cassie
- 8:53Speaker 2: told me that I'm on cage.
- 8:55Speaker 4: She got me a cookie cake on my birthday, and
- 8:58Speaker 4: it said, happy birthday, Onk.
- 8:59Speaker 2: And I was like, thank you, Cassie. Thank you. Appreciate that.
- 9:02Speaker 2: It's a term of endurance. You've probably only had football, this,
- 9:06Speaker 2: and your business.
- 9:07Speaker 8: As far as a job. You probably never had a
- 9:09Speaker 8: high school job. I didn't have a high school job.
- 9:11Speaker 8: I wanted to get a job at Brookshire's bagging groceries
- 9:15Speaker 8: at one point.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I did.
- 9:16Speaker 8: When I was in high school, I wanted to. But
- 9:19Speaker 8: then my dad was like, you know what? Looks like
- 9:23Speaker 8: you're pretty good at this, like, sports thing.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Why don't you just work out? Yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 8: I'll give you an allowance. And you just, like, you
- 9:31Speaker 8: train and get ready for your sports instead of, like,
- 9:34Speaker 8: going and bagging groceries.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 8: Because that was, like, Brookshire's, at least growing up, I
- 9:38Speaker 8: don't know how it is now, but that was, like,
- 9:39Speaker 8: full service. You bag groceries. You take them out to
- 9:41Speaker 8: the car for the person.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah. For the customer. And you load them into their car.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I think it's still like that up in the port city.
- 9:47Speaker 8: That's how I thought grocery stores were until I left Tyler.
- 9:52Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden, nobody's putting bags of
- 9:55Speaker 2: groceries in my car. You got to win Dixie down here.
- 9:58Speaker 2: like uh excuse me.
- 10:00Speaker 8: Though i'm like what's going on like you just these
- 10:04Speaker 8: groceries aren't gonna load themselves.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Guys we don't do that here.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yeah what about san antonio.
- 10:10Speaker 5: No i don't No, they didn't do that at H-E-B.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Oh, they did. In Shreveport, they did.
- 10:15Speaker 5: I mean, they would bag your groceries.
- 10:16Speaker 9: They bagged them, and then the young guy would get
- 10:18Speaker 9: the card, and he'd take it out and put it
- 10:19Speaker 9: in your car.
- 10:20Speaker 7: They would ask you if you wanted them to take
- 10:22Speaker 7: it out, but we would just be like, nah.
- 10:24Speaker 9: And then they were like, hey, don't tip them. So
- 10:27Speaker 9: you had to get creative. I'd leave like a... $ 2 on.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Top of the last bag and walk away. Like, what
- 10:32Speaker 2: are you talking about? Oh, what's up, man?
- 10:34Speaker 4: Matt, every Friday when you show up to Rouse's, are
- 10:36Speaker 4: they like, there's that guy that keeps wanting us to
- 10:38Speaker 4: bring his groceries to his store again.
- 10:39Speaker 2: What's this guy's deal, man? Who is this? But yeah,
- 10:41Speaker 2: like literally for the first.
- 10:43Speaker 8: 18 years of my life, I thought groceries were supposed
- 10:47Speaker 8: to just get in.
- 10:47Speaker 2: The back of your car. Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 5: They would ask you.
- 10:50Speaker 8: That's why there's like 50 grocery, like grocery cars just
- 10:53Speaker 8: sitting in the parking lot of every grocery store.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Yeah. That's, You know how I know... That's a pet peeve.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Like, go put your cart back.
- 11:02Speaker 5: And it's, like, so rampant now. Society's going downhill, y'all.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Downhill.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Hell in a handbasket.
- 11:08Speaker 8: It is a tricky situation, though, when, like, you have
- 11:10Speaker 8: a child in the backseat of your car and you're
- 11:12Speaker 8: grocery shopping and you put him in the car. And
- 11:15Speaker 8: then you gotta, like.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Why don't you just put him in the car last?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Well, the... I usually, like, if I have Harlow with me,
- 11:22Speaker 2: I'll ride Harlow to the return. Yeah. And then just
- 11:25Speaker 2: grab her and carry her to the car. Yeah, but
- 11:27Speaker 2: what if it's, like, a baby? She's been a baby before.
- 11:31Speaker 2: She wasn't born this way. You had always three. She wasn't?
- 11:36Speaker 6: No.
- 11:37Speaker 8: All that told me was you don't put your car back.
- 11:42Speaker 2: No, I do. I just leave my kids.
- 11:43Speaker 5: It's a pet peeve of mine as well.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I do. I do.
- 11:45Speaker 3: 100%.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I mean, your kid's old enough now. You can put
- 11:48Speaker 2: them in the car. Start the car.
- 11:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 2: And then go put it back. I'll just crack a window.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I appreciate that. Also, they're not that far. Just kidding.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Just kidding, everybody. Right.
- 12:02Speaker 7: Like the places you put your cart back aren't that
- 12:04Speaker 7: far from any car at any given moment.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Yeah, because normally they're like right in the middle of them.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Just bring the groceries out for me. Put them in
- 12:11Speaker 2: my truck.
- 12:11Speaker 5: That's the conclusion.
- 12:12Speaker 2: That's the conclusion.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Okay, I got it.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I would love to be.
- 12:15Speaker 5: Let's get Donnie Rouse on the phone.
- 12:17Speaker 4: The first time you go to a grocery store down here,
- 12:20Speaker 4: you're just waiting by your car for like an hour.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 12:22Speaker 8: So, like, I pay for it, and then I walk, like,
- 12:25Speaker 8: 20 feet away from the register, like, looking back, like.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Come on, guy. Come on. We're doing this together, man.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Let's go. Follow me. How are you going to know
- 12:34Speaker 2: which car it is if you don't follow me? You
- 12:38Speaker 2: want a signal? I'll signal you. I'll signal you. I'll
- 12:40Speaker 2: flash three times. Put my flashers on for you. I
- 12:43Speaker 2: was about to say, they're already on. They're already on.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I also had full service, like, gas stations.
- 12:50Speaker 7: Yep.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I never experienced those.
- 12:53Speaker 9: No, because we were at the very end of those.
- 12:56Speaker 2: So y'all would not, yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 8: When we'd go to, like, I'd ride with them. They'd
- 13:01Speaker 8: go to, like, the liquor store or grab some beer
- 13:03Speaker 8: or whatever it was. Like, they would bring it out
- 13:06Speaker 8: to the car.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Then, too. Yeah. Everywhere. What's going on? We got to
- 13:12Speaker 2: pick our game up down here. But also, gas was, like, $ 1. 35
- 13:16Speaker 2: when we started driving. In New Jersey.
- 13:20Speaker 4: You'd give them 20 bucks and they're like, do you
- 13:21Speaker 4: want change after you sell your tank?
- 13:23Speaker 9: This is the God's honest truth. And a lot of
- 13:25Speaker 9: people in the chat are going to agree with us here.
- 13:29Speaker 9: Late 90s, like early 2000s, when I first got my license,
- 13:33Speaker 9: you got yours. Five bucks would have Friday night, Saturday,
- 13:40Speaker 9: and Sunday night. And you would have to get gas
- 13:41Speaker 9: for like Monday after school.
- 13:43Speaker 2: True story. Like five bucks.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Five bucks gives you like a gallon now.
- 13:48Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 13:50Speaker 2: It doesn't even get you a gallon of diesel right now.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It does not. So in New Jersey, I learned. But
- 13:55Speaker 2: like Alondra said yesterday, life's about choices and decisions. It
- 13:59Speaker 2: wasn't like that when I bought the car.
- 14:00Speaker 5: It was still a lot higher. In Jersey still.
- 14:03Speaker 2: It wasn't a lot higher. It was maybe 50 cents.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Now it's a couple dollars higher, right? Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Yeah, they do it in Jersey still.
- 14:11Speaker 7: We were driving from Philadelphia to New York one time,
- 14:13Speaker 7: and we had to stop in Jersey to put gas,
- 14:16Speaker 7: and my uncle was asking the people, is it okay
- 14:19Speaker 7: if I pump my own gas?
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's illegal. No, it's illegal. It's illegal? Yeah, what
- 14:24Speaker 2: state is that? New Jersey. It's only New Jersey, though?
- 14:26Speaker 8: I don't know. I was played for the Jets for
- 14:29Speaker 8: just a little while. I rented a car, and I
- 14:31Speaker 8: went to go fill up my gas. No, you can't
- 14:33Speaker 8: go do it.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I'm like, why?
- 14:34Speaker 8: Because it's closed. I'm like, what do you mean? The
- 14:37Speaker 8: pump that I do myself? The lights stay on all day. Like,
- 14:40Speaker 8: I can just go get gas. They're like, no, it
- 14:42Speaker 8: closes at 8.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I'm like.
- 14:44Speaker 8: Absurd.
- 14:44Speaker 2: And I'm like, why?
- 14:45Speaker 8: Okay, I'm just going to still go and get my gas.
- 14:46Speaker 8: They're like, no, you can't because you can't pump your
- 14:49Speaker 8: own gas. At the time, maybe somebody lied to me.
- 14:54Speaker 8: It was a big joke on me. Like, hey, let's
- 14:57Speaker 8: get the guy with the man bun.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It's true. Dude, did you see that? There's this. Never mind.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I'm not even going to report this.
- 15:04Speaker 5: Because it might not be true. He deserves it.
- 15:05Speaker 2: No, tell us.
- 15:06Speaker 8: Apparently somebody in California got arrested. For walking around cutting
- 15:12Speaker 8: off people's man buns from behind.
- 15:14Speaker 5: That's amazing.
- 15:14Speaker 2: It feels very California. Honestly? He said he was doing
- 15:17Speaker 2: the Lord's work.
- 15:18Speaker 8: I mean.
- 15:18Speaker 2: He was. Not wrong. He was. 25 of them I
- 15:22Speaker 2: think he got.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Oh, damn.
- 15:23Speaker 2: He's good.
- 15:24Speaker 5: The world's a better place.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Again, this could have been a big joke that I
- 15:26Speaker 2: fell for. But I choose to believe it's true because
- 15:31Speaker 2: it's fun.
- 15:32Speaker 5: It is fun.
- 15:32Speaker 2: You've been known to fall for some stuff.
- 15:35Speaker 8: Well, I choose happiness a lot.
- 15:40Speaker 2: And, like, that story made me happy. So, like, why
- 15:42Speaker 2: would I go debunk it?
- 15:43Speaker 9: How would you have felt when you were rocking the
- 15:46Speaker 9: man bun circa 2014 probably?
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah. If you had got your skirt off? Probably relieved.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Probably relieved.
- 15:55Speaker 5: Nobody was forcing you to do that.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Nobody was.
- 15:57Speaker 8: It was a situation where I looked in the mirror
- 16:00Speaker 8: one day and I was in, let's.
- 16:02Speaker 2: See, where was I? I might have been in Seattle.
- 16:06Speaker 8: And forever, like I would come on here or Lacey
- 16:09Speaker 8: would come here or whatever. And so, you know, it's
- 16:11Speaker 8: been years since I'd like grown hair out and I
- 16:14Speaker 8: started growing it out a little bit. And I saw
- 16:16Speaker 8: a little thin back here.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Nothing blonde, little, little, little blonde here. Yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 8: And I was like, you know what? I've never had
- 16:24Speaker 8: long hair. I've never really liked my hair, but I just,
- 16:27Speaker 8: let's just do it one time. Let's just see until
- 16:29Speaker 8: while I, while I got it.
- 16:30Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Let's give it a test drive. You got it. Flaunt it. Yeah.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Let's give it a test drive.
- 16:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:34Speaker 2: And, um, We did. This was in Oakland. Man bun
- 16:39Speaker 2: in Oakland.
- 16:41Speaker 8: I think I get an excuse for a lot of
- 16:44Speaker 8: bad decisions in Oakland because you go to weird mental places.
- 16:48Speaker 2: And so I grew it.
- 16:51Speaker 9: You're Owen Wilson in Wedding Crashers.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You're hanging by a thread.
- 16:54Speaker 8: So we tried and I was like, you know what,
- 16:55Speaker 8: I'm going to grow it until I can put it
- 16:57Speaker 8: in a man bun. That was the finish line. That
- 17:00Speaker 8: was the absolute finish line for me. And I got
- 17:02Speaker 8: to the finish line and then we had our first child.
- 17:06Speaker 8: We had Huck and I took our newborn pictures with it.
- 17:10Speaker 5: No, that's so bad.
- 17:11Speaker 8: And we got the newborn pictures back. I want to
- 17:14Speaker 8: say probably on a, let's just say it's a Tuesday.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah. By Tuesday afternoon, the man bun was cut.
- 17:21Speaker 8: Off after I got the newborn pictures back and I
- 17:23Speaker 8: looked at it and I was like, that's not good.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Lacey, Lacey, you've been looking at this.
- 17:29Speaker 9: Did I snap a picture of said newborn pictures when
- 17:33Speaker 9: I was helping him move So I had that for blackmail.
- 17:37Speaker 2: That happened.
- 17:37Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 17:39Speaker 5: It's your payment.
- 17:40Speaker 2: It's in. Well, I got Papa John's pizza.
- 17:42Speaker 10: True.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I feel like if you have a man bond, you
- 17:44Speaker 2: can't wear shoes ever.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Or Toms. You were wearing Toms, weren't you?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Some sort of sandal.
- 17:50Speaker 5: You were wearing Toms.
- 17:53Speaker 8: No, I've never had Toms, but I was probably barefoot
- 17:56Speaker 8: in that newborn picture.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I was definitely shirtless. Were you wearing long pants rolled up?
- 17:59Speaker 2: You were shirtless? Why were you shirtless? In the newborn photos.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Why?
- 18:04Speaker 7: Why?
- 18:04Speaker 2: That's the look we were going with. With what? Sometimes
- 18:08Speaker 2: you party. I mean, you gotta do skin-to-skin contact with
- 18:11Speaker 2: your newborn.
- 18:11Speaker 5: Okay, fair, fair.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I didn't. What? I didn't. Why? Didn't do skin-to-skin? No.
- 18:18Speaker 2: They did that with Mama. I'm kidding, guys. Yeah, I didn't.
- 18:22Speaker 7: I did.
- 18:24Speaker 8: They offered, and I was like, I'm not taking my
- 18:26Speaker 8: shirt off in this hospital.
- 18:27Speaker 2: No. Why? You take it at the swimming pool. You
- 18:31Speaker 2: don't want to do it for your child? Those are
- 18:33Speaker 2: the same place. Like, They can do that to your mom.
- 18:37Speaker 2: You can turn your shirt off at the hospital, Jake.
- 18:38Speaker 2: You can do it at the pool. I mean, he's
- 18:41Speaker 2: acting like he's bashful about taking your shirt off in public. No,
- 18:43Speaker 2: it wasn't that.
- 18:43Speaker 9: It's just, like, taking it off and, like, the nurse
- 18:45Speaker 9: and doctor coming in.
- 18:46Speaker 2: And I'm in that uncomfortable chair and, like, hey, why
- 18:49Speaker 2: is his shirt off? Yeah. Okay.
- 18:52Speaker 8: I think the doctors and nurses in the delivery room
- 18:55Speaker 8: are used to seeing some stuff.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I know that you're not in the minority with this.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I know you're not. Oh, I know.
- 19:02Speaker 8: But the newborn photos with the shirt off, it's coming
- 19:06Speaker 8: off a little weird.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 5: I don't have an opinion.
- 19:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 19:11Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 19:12Speaker 8: It wasn't like it was just me sitting there with
- 19:15Speaker 8: my shirt on. Like with my nips out. I wasn't flexing.
- 19:22Speaker 8: I don't even think there was like, yeah. It was
- 19:24Speaker 8: all like just shoulder. It wasn't like, couldn't see my
- 19:28Speaker 8: eight pack or anything.
- 19:30Speaker 5: All right.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I can't keep entertaining this. Oh, gosh. This is good.
- 19:38Speaker 2: This is good stuff. People need to know.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Riveting first segment here.
- 19:42Speaker 9: You know, this is what we do. First segments have
- 19:45Speaker 9: been a little too sporty lately.
- 19:47Speaker 2: They really have.
- 19:48Speaker 5: We're so back.
- 19:48Speaker 2: I mean, this is Wednesday. We're back. the McNeese game.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I mean, you kicked a hell of a lot of
- 19:53Speaker 2: A & M. You're playing McNeese. We can talk about
- 19:55Speaker 2: skin to skin. And man buns. Daniel. Me don't do
- 20:04Speaker 2: skin to skin. I'm Jake. All right, let's take a break.
- 20:12Speaker 2: More OTB when we come back.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Skin to flannel. Oh, I like that. Go to FABT.com. FABT.com.

- 20:33Speaker 9: been in business. You don't stay in business that long

- 20:42Speaker 2: just an account number.
- 20:43Speaker 9: So go get your account, everything kind of squared away,
- 20:47Speaker 9: set up at FABT.com or go see them at one
- 20:49Speaker 9: of their many locations here in South Louisiana.

- 20:55Speaker 2: Jack might have had a bank account? Maybe. I'm not
- 20:57Speaker 2: saying no. Jack's had to get closed.
- 20:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 2: F-A-B-T dot com. She didn't share the door. Sure. First
- 21:03Speaker 2: American Bank and Trust. First American Bank and Trust.

- 21:27Speaker 3: I never knew there was a love like this before
- 21:34Speaker 3: Never had someone to show me a love Love like
- 21:43Speaker 3: this before.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Now that we have come to be.
- 21:51Speaker 2: A brand new life.
- 21:52Speaker 5: I can't see.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Welcome back to Off the Bench. Wednesday's show is brought
- 21:59Speaker 1: to you by Poncho.
- 22:29Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in.
- 22:30Speaker 9: We do apologize for anybody that has the image of
- 22:33Speaker 9: Flynn topless with a man bun wearing some Birkenstocks stuck
- 22:36Speaker 9: in their head.
- 22:38Speaker 8: I don't know if I've actually owned Birkenstocks since high school.
- 22:41Speaker 8: I know that they're new and trendy, though. Or maybe
- 22:44Speaker 8: they were a couple years ago.
- 22:47Speaker 2: They were so back. Shirtless, always in style. Yeah. Dr.
- 22:54Speaker 9: Etheridge said, you know, he's coming to date, as he
- 22:56Speaker 9: does every single Wednesday, and he said he'll try to
- 22:58Speaker 9: get here safely after having that image in his head.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Sure. Be safe out there, Doc. Male model. Sex sells.
- 23:10Speaker 5: That's what a man bun screams, too.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. You know what a man bun in
- 23:15Speaker 2: Birkenstock screams? Grits.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Grits.
- 23:21Speaker 2: What about that? That sack's not going to hack you itself.
- 23:24Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I'm trying to think.
- 23:26Speaker 9: Has there ever been a player to have a man
- 23:29Speaker 9: bun that was gritty?
- 23:32Speaker 2: A.J.
- 23:33Speaker 8: Hawk? Yeah.
- 23:35Speaker 2: A.J. and Clay. They had a lot. They had a lot.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Josh Sitton on the offensive line. He had a man bun. Yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 2: offensive lineman, I guess. You see it. Actually, you do
- 23:42Speaker 2: see it a lot there. Black Tiari had one. Smaller guys,
- 23:44Speaker 2: you don't see it a lot. So, like, that's what
- 23:46Speaker 2: I was saying.
- 23:46Speaker 8: A.J.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Is, like, the only one I can think of. Smaller guys, not.
- 23:51Speaker 9: I wouldn't consider, like, Polamala. Like, he had crazy hair,
- 23:54Speaker 9: but it wasn't, like, a man bun.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Clipboard Jesus. Oh, Chuck Whitehurst. Yeah.
- 24:00Speaker 8: Uh-huh.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Yeah. He's a good old boy. He's a good boy.
- 24:04Speaker 8: Like, he's like, hey, let me go work on my
- 24:07Speaker 8: Mustang real quick.
- 24:09Speaker 2: My 1965 Mustang. Maybe we can pull it off. I
- 24:12Speaker 2: could not. We know.
- 24:14Speaker 5: I don't think anybody can pull a man bun off.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I'm just being honest.
- 24:18Speaker 5: I mean, it's not like.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Nobody can. Some people pull it off better than others.
- 24:23Speaker 5: I disagree.
- 24:24Speaker 2: And Clay Matthews, he kind of wore it down a lot. Right, right, right.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I feel like when he wasn't playing. I don't know
- 24:31Speaker 2: how gritty Clay was. It was up more. I don't know.
- 24:34Speaker 2: I know AJ was. AJ had that jaw just like, rock,
- 24:37Speaker 2: headbutt you. Didn't really care about his safety. No, no.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Of himself or you, which I appreciate. Anywho. Did we
- 24:49Speaker 2: watch any playoff baseball yesterday?
- 24:53Speaker 5: I didn't, but I heard.
- 24:54Speaker 2: You didn't? Your team was playing the Red Sox.
- 24:57Speaker 7: I know.
- 24:57Speaker 5: They whooped them.
- 25:00Speaker 9: It was hard for me because it was during my
- 25:04Speaker 9: afternoon show.
- 25:05Speaker 2: The Braves were playing the Phillies. I'm a Braves fan.
- 25:07Speaker 2: I hate the Phillies.
- 25:09Speaker 9: The Phillies are up there with the Raiders and the
- 25:11Speaker 9: Florida Gators for me. Just always have been. I mean,
- 25:14Speaker 9: I grew up diehard Atlanta Braves. They don't like the Phillies.
- 25:17Speaker 9: John Kruk and Mitch Williams and... Darren Dalton and Lenny Dykstra,
- 25:22Speaker 9: they can all, you know, rest in peace, Darren Dalton.
- 25:24Speaker 2: They can all fly kite, though. Just didn't like them. RIP.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Kind of sucked, though.
- 25:31Speaker 9: So Braves are down 3-2 in the bottom of the
- 25:34Speaker 9: eighth inning. They come up, two guys on. Austin Riley's up,
- 25:39Speaker 9: who is a really good baseball player, but has been
- 25:41Speaker 9: struggling mightily this year.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Hits an oppo taco. Take the lead. Braves win 5-3.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Hell yeah. I'm happy for you.
- 25:51Speaker 9: I was doing like this while I was like on air.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Literally, like not like in commercial break, like on air.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Hold on, Dan Quinn. I can celebrate this.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Dan, you get it.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Oh, Dan would get it. Dan's a backwards hat guy.
- 26:04Speaker 2: He'd get it.
- 26:06Speaker 8: I found out that the baseball playoffs had started about
- 26:11Speaker 8: 10 p.m. last night when I got in bed and
- 26:13Speaker 8: I turned the TV on and I was just looking
- 26:15Speaker 8: for something.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Oh, probably some Padres Cubs. I saw the end of
- 26:19Speaker 2: the Yankee game. Oh, okay.
- 26:21Speaker 8: So I saw the end of that one, and I
- 26:22Speaker 8: was like, oh, okay, I'll turn it on. It's Yankees-Red Sox.
- 26:24Speaker 8: I'll turn it on, get some background noise. And I
- 26:26Speaker 8: turned it on, and I was like, oh, this is
- 26:29Speaker 8: on a pretty big channel. I was like, okay. And
- 26:31Speaker 8: I looked at the little bottom, and it said MLB playoffs.
- 26:35Speaker 8: I was like, oh, the playoffs started today. That's fun.
- 26:37Speaker 2: And then I put it on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
- 26:42Speaker 5: I love that show.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Good show.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Do you still have– or did you get a Cam
- 26:46Speaker 5: Schlitter card? Didn't you ask us about him?
- 26:48Speaker 2: I got one.
- 26:48Speaker 5: You got him? You still got it?
- 26:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 5: He had a really good game last night.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Who's that? Schlitter the– Yankees rookie pitcher.
- 26:55Speaker 7: Oh, because you had the– you asked about the Yankees
- 26:58Speaker 7: or the Star Wars cleats or something.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Is that him?
- 27:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:02Speaker 2: That's him, yeah. He's a rookie?
- 27:04Speaker 7: No.
- 27:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 27:06Speaker 5: It's his second year.
- 27:06Speaker 2: He's considered a rookie, though, still. That's a weird thing. Yeah,
- 27:09Speaker 2: they do, like, the games played or something, right?
- 27:12Speaker 5: Oh, that's true.
- 27:13Speaker 9: You can actually play, like, a pretty decent amount of games,
- 27:16Speaker 9: but if you don't hit the mark, then.
- 27:17Speaker 3: You're a rookie.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Because remember Ben Simmons won Rookie of the Year his
- 27:20Speaker 4: second year.
- 27:20Speaker 2: In the league.
- 27:21Speaker 8: It is weird because I had, like, an Aaron Judge
- 27:23Speaker 8: rookie card from, like, 2017, but then I had one from, like,
- 27:28Speaker 8: 2013 as well.
- 27:28Speaker 2: It was confusing. I might have got those numbers wrong,
- 27:31Speaker 2: but he had, like, two rookie cards. Two years. He
- 27:34Speaker 2: probably had a first Bowman. And then a rookie card. Yeah,
- 27:38Speaker 2: whatever that means. Well, like when you're a prospect. Oh,
- 27:41Speaker 2: a prospect.
- 27:42Speaker 9: If you got one like a Kate Anderson, it would
- 27:44Speaker 9: have been a first Bowman, but he's not technically a
- 27:46Speaker 9: rookie yet.
- 27:48Speaker 2: And then next year he will be a rookie.
- 27:50Speaker 9: He debuted this year, but he didn't pitch enough to
- 27:53Speaker 9: not be a rookie next year.
- 27:54Speaker 8: I thought first Bowman was like the brand, but first
- 27:57Speaker 8: Bowman is like a prospect thing? First Bowman is like
- 27:59Speaker 8: your first Bowman card, yeah. Bowman's the brand, but then
- 28:02Speaker 8: there's a first Bowman.
- 28:03Speaker 2: First is, yes, that is your like. Your first time
- 28:06Speaker 2: you got a Bowman card. So is the NFL Bowman
- 28:08Speaker 2: stuff doing first Bowman right now? Probably.
- 28:10Speaker 9: Because they've never done football, right? I would think so, yeah. Like,
- 28:15Speaker 9: there's going to be college ones that are first Bowmans
- 28:17Speaker 9: for sure.
- 28:18Speaker 1: All right.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Respect. The Padres beat the Cubs 8-0. Sorry, Hunt.
- 28:26Speaker 9: Yankees beat the Red Sox 9-0. White Sox beat the
- 28:30Speaker 9: Astros 6-3. And Braves beat the Phillies 5-3. Hunt might
- 28:37Speaker 9: not do a show today, y'all.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 28:44Speaker 2: First pitch at 9 p.m. Central time. Hunt might not
- 28:47Speaker 2: have made it. That's pretty late.
- 28:51Speaker 9: Brace Phillies again today, 1 p.m.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Central time. Not going to be a great... Who'd they play?
- 28:57Speaker 2: The Cubs play the Padres? The Cubs play the Padres.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I'm sure he picked the Padres to win. He bet
- 29:04Speaker 2: on them, at least. He definitely bet on them.
- 29:09Speaker 9: But these are, you know, best of three series. So,
- 29:13Speaker 9: not a lot of room for error. Which is kind of,
- 29:17Speaker 9: I don't really know. 162 games and we're doing best
- 29:20Speaker 9: of three?
- 29:20Speaker 5: I mean, you got 162 to get it right.
- 29:22Speaker 9: I know they're trying to speed it up. But you
- 29:24Speaker 9: know baseball. I mean, baseball, a good team can lose
- 29:26Speaker 9: a series. A three-game series.
- 29:29Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 29:30Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 29:31Speaker 2: They're trying to speed it up. And I get it.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Did they not do a play-in at one point? Like
- 29:34Speaker 2: a one-game play-in? They did. They used to do a
- 29:36Speaker 2: one-game wild card play-in. Which baseball, one game seems like
- 29:40Speaker 2: literally wild. Pretty wild. Am I right? Yeah. We got it. Okay. So. Anyways.
- 29:54Speaker 2: That's your MLB baseball scoreboard. Wow. That was good. No
- 29:58Speaker 2: Texas Rangers. Sorry, Matt. Oh, man. Almost.
- 30:02Speaker 8: I'm excited that the playoffs are here. I do enjoy
- 30:04Speaker 8: watching a little playoff baseball in October.
- 30:06Speaker 2: I do.
- 30:07Speaker 5: This season, baseball is exciting.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I didn't really realize that it was on until last night.
- 30:11Speaker 4: Also, I turned on the TV yesterday, and they're like,
- 30:15Speaker 4: I turned on my ESPN Plus app, and it's like,
- 30:18Speaker 4: catch the opening night of hockey.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I'm like, it is September. Yeah, y'all just got done.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Didn't this just finish in June? Yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 9: Kind of like international soccer. They get done in May,
- 30:32Speaker 9: and it's right back in August.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Because they were done right before the NBA finals in mid-June.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Basketball is ridiculous, too.
- 30:38Speaker 8: There's no way LSU should be playing basketball this month
- 30:42Speaker 8: or in October.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Next couple weeks, yeah. No, like eight days.
- 30:47Speaker 8: That, okay, I know there's a lot of basketball people
- 30:49Speaker 8: out there, and that's good. I love people having fun
- 30:53Speaker 8: and getting to watch what they want to watch, but
- 30:54Speaker 8: basketball season.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Started in eight days is ridiculous.
- 30:57Speaker 5: I mean, it's an exhibition, but yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I think it's kind of dumb. Myself? Should it start
- 31:04Speaker 2: after the new year? Okay, maybe that's a little late.
- 31:08Speaker 5: It's a long season.
- 31:09Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 31:12Speaker 2: After the new year? It's not rhetorical. I'm asking when
- 31:14Speaker 2: should it start.
- 31:15Speaker 7: Oh.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I don't think that's enough time. Yeah, Thanksgiving. I think Thanksgiving.
- 31:19Speaker 2: That's probably fair. After Thanksgiving. NBA too? Oh, for sure.
- 31:26Speaker 8: Well, I don't really care. I don't even know when
- 31:29Speaker 8: that starts or when that finishes. They're having their media
- 31:33Speaker 8: days right now.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Of all the things that I don't care about, that's
- 31:39Speaker 2: at the top. In sports. Soccer or NBA? I don't know.
- 31:52Speaker 2: I don't even know when the soccer, when is that season?
- 31:55Speaker 2: August to May. August, that's a long time.
- 31:57Speaker 9: Like, right now, they're in an international break. So, Team
- 32:01Speaker 9: USA beat Chile last night, 4-2. Is that good?
- 32:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:11Speaker 8: It's good.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Good dub. USA went young. Kind of hit reset on
- 32:16Speaker 2: the national team. A lot of teenagers. So, they have.
- 32:21Speaker 2: A 16-year-old. What did you say? August through May?
- 32:23Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:26Speaker 9: Because right now, the EPL, like in all these leagues,
- 32:31Speaker 9: they're not with their country right now, so they have
- 32:34Speaker 9: some breaks like that, and they'll have another international window like.
- 32:36Speaker 2: In the spring where they go play for their country.
- 32:43Speaker 2: All right. Thank you. You're welcome. More OTB when we
- 32:47Speaker 2: come back.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 32:51Speaker 9: All right, go to pelicanroof.com, the website for our friends

- 33:33Speaker 8: You know, it might be time to get that new roof.
- 33:36Speaker 8: We'll give them a call. They'll come out and they'll

- 33:57Speaker 3: This is what you do.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Welcome back to Off the Bench. Wednesday's show is brought
- 34:05Speaker 1: to you by Poncho.
- 34:06Speaker 10: A new relationship with you.
- 34:09Speaker 7: Hello.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Yeah, what up? What's happening? Welcome back in.
- 34:45Speaker 9: OTB, a little R & B Wednesday. Last thing about baseball.
- 34:53Speaker 9: If we were playing, what's the ticket? Padres, Cubs, $ 137.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yankees, Red Sox, $ 117. Oh, that's not bad. Braves, Phillies, $ 39. Astros,
- 35:01Speaker 2: White Sox.
- 35:01Speaker 9: $ 26.
- 35:11Speaker 4: I would have thought Yankees Red Sox would have been
- 35:14Speaker 4: the highest.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Dang, you suck, baseball.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Yeah, $ 117 to get your foot in the door of
- 35:18Speaker 5: a wild card. That's crazy. Yankees Red Sox?
- 35:23Speaker 2: I'd go to Yankees Red Sox. Yeah, that's wild.
- 35:24Speaker 5: For $ 117? Hell yeah, I'm going.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I don't even like either one of the teams. Is
- 35:28Speaker 2: that league about to shutter?
- 35:30Speaker 5: Yeah, actually, it might.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Yeah, they may not start.
- 35:33Speaker 5: Truly, they might not have a season next season.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Oh, for real? Yeah, they might have a strike, yeah.
- 35:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 35:40Speaker 2: I mean, drama's always fun, no?
- 35:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I'm here for it.
- 35:44Speaker 2: My fill for the players.
- 35:45Speaker 5: I mean, the players, yeah. Yeah, I guess.
- 35:53Speaker 2: We were in the professional league when there was the
- 35:56Speaker 2: threat of a lockout. I mean, we did have one.
- 36:00Speaker 2: We did. Off-season lockout. I missed a bonus shake because
- 36:03Speaker 2: I had two of my bonuses. I hit one.
- 36:05Speaker 10: Actually....
- 36:10Speaker 2: Actually, I take that back.
- 36:11Speaker 9: Like, I did miss one, but the Chargers actually did
- 36:17Speaker 9: right by me and gave me the workout bonus one.
- 36:22Speaker 8: When they didn't have to because we didn't have workouts.
- 36:26Speaker 8: Although we were grinding up there. You would have been there.
- 36:29Speaker 9: USD, University of San Diego, where I first met our guy,
- 36:33Speaker 9: Jay Johnson.
- 36:36Speaker 5: Love that guy.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I would have been there as a. I was
- 36:39Speaker 2: the token white special teams guy. For sure. Of course
- 36:42Speaker 2: I would have been there. Workout 40 minutes early. Yeah.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Workout warrior. Jack of all trades. Master of none. Film junkie. Coachable.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Coach on the field. Not fast, but quick. Always in
- 36:58Speaker 2: the right spot. Those kind of things. Coach on the
- 37:04Speaker 2: field is another one. That's a good point. That's the
- 37:06Speaker 2: one I got.
- 37:08Speaker 8: Guys with coach on the field. This guy's got a
- 37:10Speaker 8: weak arm. I'm throwing next to Jamarcus. Like, pretty strong.
- 37:15Speaker 8: I can throw it pretty good, but, like, he can
- 37:19Speaker 8: throw it 90. Yeah, he can get on one knee
- 37:21Speaker 8: and throw it 70. Saw that man throw it 90
- 37:23Speaker 8: yards one time.
- 37:25Speaker 2: In street clothes. Anyways. So, yeah, my arm's going to
- 37:31Speaker 2: look weak. I'm only throwing it 65. Sorry, it's 60.
- 37:33Speaker 2: With a crow hop. Oh, yeah, obviously. Well, Jabari's standing
- 37:42Speaker 2: on his knee. Maybe another saying I hate in sports.
- 37:47Speaker 2: He can make all the throws. You hate people with
- 37:51Speaker 2: good arms. No, it's not that.
- 37:53Speaker 7: Matt said arm talent yesterday in the film review.
- 37:56Speaker 4: It's just like he can make all the throws. I'm like, yeah,
- 37:59Speaker 4: they wouldn't ask him to make a throw he can't make. Yeah,
- 38:00Speaker 4: he can make all the throws.
- 38:01Speaker 2: I mean, you watch some of these games and it
- 38:07Speaker 2: makes you wonder.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Some can't make all the throws.
- 38:08Speaker 8: It makes you wonder. About some of these throws. Arm
- 38:15Speaker 8: talent is not the, yeah, it's, some guys have better hands.
- 38:20Speaker 8: They can correct at the last second.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Some guys don't. A lot of guys don't have
- 38:25Speaker 2: that at all the levels.
- 38:31Speaker 9: I think, like, speaking of, like, guys that can and
- 38:34Speaker 9: can't make throws, like, For Case Keenum, and you mentioned
- 38:37Speaker 9: this a little bit yesterday, for him to be on
- 38:39Speaker 9: a nationally televised game and for everyone to see how
- 38:42Speaker 9: much you can do with your mind and not just
- 38:45Speaker 9: your physical talent in the NFL, it's pretty cool to see,
- 38:49Speaker 9: and it tells you how mental the game is. But
- 38:51Speaker 9: it also, for me, this is how I took it,
- 38:54Speaker 9: the development of the quarterback position is really far behind where.
- 38:59Speaker 2: It needs to be. Yeah, it's very underdeveloped right now.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Brady talks about it all the time.
- 39:03Speaker 8: The development of the quarterback position is– the quarterback position
- 39:07Speaker 8: is a lot different now um at the high school
- 39:10Speaker 8: level at the college level now it's the same at
- 39:14Speaker 8: the nfl level as it always has been it's probably
- 39:17Speaker 8: better at the nfl level than it ever has been
- 39:19Speaker 8: but the development part is lacking behind because they're not
- 39:24Speaker 8: asked to do a lot you're not asked to verbally
- 39:26Speaker 8: communicate it was really put like it was really.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Spotlighted on Monday night with Case Keenum.
- 39:32Speaker 8: Because you had so many good microphones there, such good coverage.
- 39:36Speaker 8: The pre-snap communication was awesome. You can have a guy
- 39:41Speaker 8: that hadn't played in three years, 38 years old.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Yes, I'll be talented. And he's had success. And he's
- 39:47Speaker 2: not just like a guy coming off the streets. He's
- 39:49Speaker 2: been playing.
- 39:50Speaker 8: But it's truly amazing what a quarterback can do when
- 39:53Speaker 8: you are in complete control and you understand the defensive looks,
- 39:57Speaker 8: all those things that we talked about in like the film,
- 39:58Speaker 8: like he's doing that in real time.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Yes.
- 40:01Speaker 8: Because he's processing the information and you don't get that
- 40:05Speaker 8: at the college level. You get a little bit, you
- 40:06Speaker 8: get some alerts, you get some, you know, flip, flip, flip,
- 40:10Speaker 8: and some alert, alert, alert.
- 40:11Speaker 2: But a lot of times like.
- 40:12Speaker 8: NFL guys, aren't looking toward the sideline to have their
- 40:15Speaker 8: hand held and like for the coach to tell you
- 40:17Speaker 8: everything to do. Like it's, So you're not processing as much,
- 40:20Speaker 8: and I see it at the high school level. All
- 40:22Speaker 8: these high schools, and I get it because you can
- 40:25Speaker 8: plug people in, but in the college level they're doing
- 40:28Speaker 8: it for like shotgun every play. It's not great for
- 40:32Speaker 8: quarterback development. Clap counts are not great for quarterback development.
- 40:35Speaker 8: Maybe it's good for that system, and I get that
- 40:37Speaker 8: and I understand that, and that's what's being taught, and
- 40:41Speaker 8: that's like the offense that everybody's doing right now, and
- 40:45Speaker 8: so it's easy, but it's not.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Great for quarterback development.
- 40:49Speaker 9: But, like, Case didn't come off the street, right? And
- 40:52Speaker 9: he's been in locker rooms. He's been in meeting rooms.
- 40:55Speaker 9: He hasn't played, but to your point, but I do think, like,
- 40:58Speaker 9: Phillip Rivers coming straight from not playing in, like, five
- 41:02Speaker 9: years as a high school football coach and doing well
- 41:05Speaker 9: with his mind because he didn't have, you know, he
- 41:08Speaker 9: didn't have mobility. He couldn't throw it as far as
- 41:10Speaker 9: he once did. But he was successful because he understood
- 41:13Speaker 9: the game. He knew where to go with the football.
- 41:15Speaker 9: He knew where to put people. And that's like a
- 41:18Speaker 9: lost art.
- 41:19Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 41:19Speaker 9: That you just don't see with young quarterbacks. Now, the
- 41:21Speaker 9: arm talent and all that stuff that we talk about, yeah, sure,
- 41:24Speaker 9: that's there. But just imagine, hear me out, if you married.
- 41:28Speaker 8: Both those things. And that's what they're doing at the
- 41:32Speaker 8: NFL level. And hopefully it kind of gets to that. But, yeah,
- 41:36Speaker 8: it's a lost art. Not a lost art because you've
- 41:38Speaker 8: got to train it at some point. But, like, turning
- 41:40Speaker 8: your back to the defense. Doing things pre-snap. Getting your
- 41:44Speaker 8: team in the right look before the snap. Getting the
- 41:46Speaker 8: protection right. Calling the mics. Calling the safeties out for
- 41:48Speaker 8: their running game. You don't see that a lot now.
- 41:51Speaker 8: You see it some, but to me, it was really
- 41:54Speaker 8: put on the spotlight Monday night when a guy that
- 41:57Speaker 8: was 38, hadn't played in three years, gets in there
- 41:59Speaker 8: and can go and be in complete control of not
- 42:02Speaker 8: just any team, the Eagles, which was fun to watch.
- 42:05Speaker 2: All right, we'll take a break.
- 42:06Speaker 9: More OTB wrap-up hour number one when we come back
- 42:08Speaker 9: here live from the Raising Cane Studios.

- 42:36Speaker 9: it might be, from small to big, They're going to

- 43:22Speaker 1: Welcome back to Off the Bench. Wednesday's show is brought
- 43:25Speaker 1: to you by Poncho.
- 43:35Speaker 5: Hey, Matt.
- 43:37Speaker 10: I'm just letting you know, Notre Dame at North Carolina
- 43:46Speaker 10: is not allowed to be in the pontoon parlay.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Okay. Can't do it. Okay. Won't do it.
- 43:54Speaker 8: I'm studying hard this week because I think we got
- 43:57Speaker 8: a glass of.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Almond milk on the line, don't we? What is it again?
- 44:03Speaker 2: I think if my pick hits, you have to drink
- 44:06Speaker 2: almond milk. Oh, yeah, that's true. If I miss it
- 44:09Speaker 2: for the pontoon parlay, I got to drink almond milk. Yeah.
- 44:12Speaker 2: You know, we don't do that stuff. We like our bones. Yeah,
- 44:18Speaker 2: we do. We care about calcium. Yeah.
- 44:22Speaker 5: Former man bun.
- 44:23Speaker 7: Did you ever get into, like, the non-pasteurized milk, like
- 44:26Speaker 7: how people drink raw milk? That feels like something that
- 44:28Speaker 7: man bun people would do.
- 44:30Speaker 2: No, no, no. I don't do that. We have the
- 44:32Speaker 2: technology these days to pasteurize. No, I agree. So I
- 44:36Speaker 2: completely use it.
- 44:37Speaker 5: I was just going off the man bun.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Oh, no, no. I think I'm very self-aware.
- 44:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Wanted to give it a shot. Give it the old
- 44:51Speaker 2: college try. As someone out of college. Yeah, someone out
- 44:56Speaker 2: of college. I mean, I still use that saying.
- 45:04Speaker 5: Do you regret the man bun or do you stand
- 45:06Speaker 5: by it?
- 45:07Speaker 2: No, no regrets.
- 45:10Speaker 5: Not even one letter?
- 45:12Speaker 2: Not one single letter. I mean, why have any regrets,
- 45:15Speaker 2: you know?
- 45:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I get that.
- 45:16Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 45:17Speaker 7: Heard.
- 45:17Speaker 2: All right.
- 45:18Speaker 8: I mean, I did it and I cut it. I
- 45:21Speaker 8: saw how dumb it looked and how bad my hair was. Obviously,
- 45:27Speaker 8: I shaved my head. Using number one all.
- 45:30Speaker 2: The way around.
- 45:31Speaker 5: You went from one extreme to the other.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. It's pretty much my life. That's also fair. Absolutely.
- 45:41Speaker 2: All right.
- 45:41Speaker 9: When we come back, hour number two, Dr. Stephen Etheridge
- 45:44Speaker 9: will join us here in studio. We'll have that for
- 45:47Speaker 9: you right here on OTB.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 45:50Speaker 2: All right.
- 45:50Speaker 9: Go to RejuvenateMedical.com. 13 locations across the state of Louisiana.
- 45:54Speaker 9: Also have one in Mississippi. Go to the website today.
- 45:57Speaker 9: Get everything scheduled up. Get that blood work drawn. Then
- 46:01Speaker 9: you're going to come back in about a week's time, typically,
- 46:03Speaker 9: and they're going to have a plan for you. And
- 46:06Speaker 9: the entire process is 20 minutes. The entire process. I'm
- 46:10Speaker 9: talking about from getting your blood drawn to coming back
- 46:13Speaker 9: and having the consultation. And they're going to have a
- 46:16Speaker 9: plan for you. You're going to get on a path
- 46:17Speaker 9: for success to feeling like your youthful self again.
