Transcript
- Lucas: Luna, welcome back. Ready to learn more family words in Amharic? Luna: Absolutely! Last time we learned grandparents. Today, let's do aunt and uncle. Lucas: Great idea. Let's start with 'aunt'. In Amharic, it's አክስቴ. Luna: አክስቴ. Say that again? Lucas: አክስቴ. It means 'my aunt'. Listen again: አክስቴ. Luna: አክስቴ. Like 'aks-te'. Lucas: Yes! Now 'uncle' is አጎቴ. Luna: አጎቴ. That's a little trickier. Lucas: You got it. አጎቴ. My uncle. Luna: አጎቴ. Okay, I think I have it. Lucas: Let's put them together: 'aunt and uncle' is አክስቴ እና አጎቴ. Luna: አክስቴ እና አጎቴ. Lucas: Perfect. Now, how about 'I love my aunt'? That's አክስቴን እወዳለሁ. Luna: አክስቴን እወዳለሁ. That's a whole sentence. Lucas: Yes. And 'I love my uncle' is አጎቴን እወዳለሁ. Luna: አጎቴን እወዳለሁ. I can hear the pattern. Lucas: Good ear. Let's practice a mini dialogue. I'll be me, you be you. I say: 'አክስቴህ እንዴት ናት?' Means 'How is your aunt?' You answer: 'አክስቴ ጥሩ ናት.' Luna: አክስቴ ጥሩ ናት. My aunt is fine. Lucas: Now with uncle: 'አጎቴህ እንዴት ነው?' You: 'አጎቴ ጥሩ ነው.' Luna: አጎቴ ጥሩ ነው. Lucas: Excellent. You're really picking this up. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. You know, learning these family words makes me think of my own aunt and uncle. It's nice to be able to talk about them in Amharic. Lucas: It is. Luna: አጎቴ. Lucas: And 'I love my aunt'? Luna: አክስቴን እወዳለሁ. Lucas: Wonderful. You've got it. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Thanks, Lucas! Bye.
