Padres Coach Detained at Airport | San Antonio News
Former minor league baseball player Oswaldo Pirela, now a coach for the San Diego Padres, was detained by ICE at El Paso International Airport while returning from a work trip. Though he entered the U.S. legally in 2014, DHS claims he overstayed his 2018 departure date and lacked proof of status at arrest. His brother says asylum applications and temporary IDs are in progress, and Pirela may have simply forgotten his work permit.
