- 0:00Speaker 1: How do you like work with that if someone's really
- 0:03Speaker 1: discouraged and you can tell, but you want to motivate
- 0:06Speaker 1: them to do like the exercises they need to do
- 0:09Speaker 1: to move? How do you approach that?
- 0:11Speaker 2: I mean, the biggest thing is just sharing my story
- 0:14Speaker 2: of going through this big back surgery and showing them
- 0:19Speaker 2: what I was capable of afterwards. And hopefully that inspires
- 0:22Speaker 2: them to be like, okay, maybe what my doctor says
- 0:24Speaker 2: isn't set in stone or, you know, maybe I can
- 0:28Speaker 2: work to improve. So I just, I just share my story.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I let them take what they, they can from it. Um,
- 0:34Speaker 2: but that's typically how I go about that.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Does any, do you ever go, hello, I'm boo by
- 0:40Speaker 1: monster zinc.
- 0:41Speaker 2: If that makes you feel better. I, in my, I
- 0:45Speaker 2: work at a spa and I, only my boss knows
- 0:48Speaker 2: cause she had to like Google me to do a
- 0:50Speaker 2: background check. Um, so not like in my day to day,
- 0:53Speaker 2: but I have had people, um, a couple of people
- 0:56Speaker 2: in particular, um, that I used to have a, um,
- 1:01Speaker 2: I was doing a vlog on YouTube. There's only five
- 1:03Speaker 2: videos that from like years ago, but it was a
- 1:05Speaker 2: boo grown up. And in one of the episodes I
- 1:08Speaker 2: talk about scoliosis and I reference an old YouTube channel.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I had, um, the scoliosis diaries. I think I called it,
- 1:14Speaker 2: which the videos are still up. I just can't access
- 1:16Speaker 2: the account. But in this one video on the boo
- 1:18Speaker 2: grown up channel, I kind of summarized and edited some
- 1:21Speaker 2: videos together. And I had a couple of people reach
- 1:23Speaker 2: out to me, um, because.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Of boo, they like knew I was boo. They knew
- 1:29Speaker 3: I had this back surgery.
- 1:30Speaker 2: They went through a similar thing and then kind of seen,
- 1:34Speaker 2: I got really into weightlifting for a while and like
- 1:37Speaker 2: different types of activities along those lines. And one person
- 1:40Speaker 2: I actually like, he got inspired to go to massage
- 1:43Speaker 2: school and.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Start going to the gym.
- 1:46Speaker 2: And so it was kind of like through that boo
- 1:48Speaker 2: connection is how they found me online. And then they're like,
- 1:50Speaker 2: Oh wow, I have this in common with her. I mean,
- 1:52Speaker 2: reach out and see like how she got there.
- 1:54Speaker 3: So it has been used in that, in that way sometimes.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Can I ask, how does it feel for you? Like
- 2:02Speaker 1: that every, not everyone, because I mean, you could walk
- 2:05Speaker 1: down the street. I'm guessing most people aren't going to go, Oh,
- 2:07Speaker 1: she's boo. That's kind of the cool thing about voice
- 2:10Speaker 1: acting is that, you know, unless your voice is super
- 2:13Speaker 1: distinctive to what you do, people aren't going to go,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I know who you are. But do you like the
- 2:20Speaker 1: fact that, Boo has always, like, when you tell people, yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I was Boo in Monsters, Inc., everyone's like, Boo! Do
- 2:29Speaker 1: you like that very much? Or you're like, yes.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I mean, it's definitely a fun fact, and it's always
- 2:35Speaker 2: been a part of me, so now I'm used to it.
- 2:38Speaker 3: When I was little, it was a little overwhelming at times.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I remember in kindergarten, the newspaper crew, like, came to
- 2:44Speaker 2: my kindergarten to interview me and, like, Growing up when
- 2:47Speaker 2: the movie just came out, it was kind of like, okay,
- 2:50Speaker 2: who's my actual friend?
- 2:51Speaker 3: You know, I don't know.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Little things like that. But now, I mean, I love
- 2:55Speaker 2: when people find out. Like you said, it's kind of
- 2:59Speaker 2: the best of both worlds. Like no one knows unless
- 3:00Speaker 2: I want them to know or like, you know, someone
- 3:02Speaker 2: tells them. And it's not like the first thing. I
- 3:05Speaker 2: don't introduce myself like, hi.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm Mary.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I'm the voice of Boo.
- 3:08Speaker 2: But when it does come out, especially if I like
- 3:11Speaker 2: know someone for a little bit and then like they
- 3:12Speaker 2: find out somehow, just like, the magic it brings them.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Just Pixar movies in general, like they're so magical. And
- 3:20Speaker 2: then being able to be a part of that. And
- 3:22Speaker 2: then you kind of have like an instant connection with
- 3:24Speaker 2: someone in a way. And that's really special, especially at
- 3:28Speaker 2: these Comic-Cons that you mentioned. I get to travel around
- 3:31Speaker 2: to different conventions and sign autographs. But the biggest part
- 3:35Speaker 2: is like just talking to fans of the movie and
- 3:37Speaker 2: seeing how the movie works. how they connect to the
- 3:41Speaker 2: movie in different ways. Um, and yeah, I, I like,
- 3:44Speaker 2: I like being able to be a part of people's
- 3:47Speaker 2: childhoods in some way. It's a little mind blowing, but
- 3:50Speaker 2: it's still, I'm really grateful for it.
- 3:53Speaker 1: What, how did it impact yours? Cause I mean, I
- 3:55Speaker 1: know you were so little, I mean, I can't even
- 3:58Speaker 1: remember a memory from when I was three. So I'm like,
- 4:02Speaker 1: you know, uh, I wouldn't remember. I mean, I, I
- 4:05Speaker 1: guess I'd remember if I was in a movie, but
- 4:07Speaker 1: I don't remember anything about that. So, Do you, like,
- 4:10Speaker 1: have very vivid memories of that? Did it impact you
- 4:14Speaker 1: in any way at that time? Or was it just
- 4:16Speaker 1: kind of like, oh, this is something fun to do? Like,
- 4:19Speaker 1: did it even really register that it was a movie
- 4:21Speaker 1: you were doing?
- 4:23Speaker 2: So it was my dad's work. And so I think,
- 4:26Speaker 2: especially early on, I was just, oh, cool, my dad's
- 4:29Speaker 2: bringing me to work every day. Like, at first, they
- 4:31Speaker 2: just needed a little girl to sketch for reference. And
- 4:34Speaker 2: so that's why I was initially brought in.
- 4:36Speaker 3: And I, like.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Various weird flashes, like, there's this, like, magnetic fishing game
- 4:41Speaker 2: I like for some reason I have a vivid memory
- 4:43Speaker 2: of playing that in the studio um just like weird
- 4:46Speaker 2: things I'm just kind of playing around with the the
- 4:48Speaker 2: staff um and when I was five is when the
- 4:51Speaker 2: movie actually came out and that's when Billy Crystal walked
- 4:54Speaker 2: me down the red carpet and I remember this one
- 4:56Speaker 2: girl like for everyone I wrote my name I just
- 4:58Speaker 2: wrote Mary Gibbs and then one girl who was like
- 5:00Speaker 2: around my age I wrote Mary Gibbs boo and I
- 5:03Speaker 2: kind of like remember having that interaction like you said
- 5:06Speaker 2: like very vague memories and most memories come from just
- 5:09Speaker 2: growing up
