- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Fistful Earth, the official podcast of Mafio Properties.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Whether you own a small farm, please land, or just love hanging in your backyard.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: We're all about the outdoor lifestyle and how to get the most from your time and contact outdoors.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Now here's your host, Riley Castrickland.
- 0:31SPEAKER_05: Man, I hate to say that all but we did get a little bit of rain.
- 0:36SPEAKER_05: And it was 100% forever from Hurricane ISIS and governed the screen.
- 0:57SPEAKER_09: You guys can call what you want.
- 0:58SPEAKER_09: Hurricane is a yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_06: Nobody came for now.
- 1:14SPEAKER_06: That's the name of the hard screen.
- 1:16SPEAKER_06: Nobody came from out of the way.
- 1:25SPEAKER_05: And as of right now, after it's gone, I think we got four tenths of an inch.
- 1:30SPEAKER_05: And don't get me wrong, I'll take it.
- 1:33SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: And uh but that's a far cry from torrential downpour to our like what we were promised.
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:41SPEAKER_05: Anyway, it's almost like so much of the hurricane.
- 1:44SPEAKER_05: It's pretty nice.
- 1:45SPEAKER_05: But anyway, it was uh way more to the east.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:49SPEAKER_05: And that's okay.
- 1:50SPEAKER_05: Four tenths of an inch is fine.
- 1:52SPEAKER_05: And I'll take it.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: I guess there was some big warm stream under Texas that hit it and knocked a lot of its power out.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Um it it weakened right before it got here.
- 2:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'm looking I'm convinced 99% of the weather online is clickbait.
- 2:09SPEAKER_05: And they just want you to follow me for this, follow me for that.
- 2:13SPEAKER_05: So it is what it is.
- 2:14SPEAKER_05: Good news is we got four tenths of an inch, and that'll help.
- 2:17SPEAKER_05: So it is what it is.
- 2:19SPEAKER_05: But uh the big weather news for me, looking at the app, depending on, and I got like seven, depending on how far you go forward, I saw 40 degrees at some point for low.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: It's hard to imagine.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: It's uh it's been so hot, it's just hard to imagine.
- 2:36SPEAKER_05: What it's the weirdest boat season ever.
- 2:39SPEAKER_05: I haven't even been yet.
- 2:41SPEAKER_05: Don't know, and that's crazy, but it's just been from being busy, not like a wanting to go.
- 2:47SPEAKER_05: But we had a stretch.
- 2:49SPEAKER_05: I mean, when boat seasons opened, it was 99 degrees that day.
- 2:53SPEAKER_05: Your son Cranky playing on JV and high school football practicing until 5:30 every day and playing games Thursday and Friday, and it's just not a lot going on, but well, that is winding down.
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: So it's it's all good.
- 3:07SPEAKER_05: Finished the last food plot with your oldest son, Matt.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: On for fall back.
- 3:13SPEAKER_05: Your husband, Ricky, they had to come help me, and it was we kind of cleared out a spot, but I was like, golly, man, if I could get that one done, it's in a place we don't go.
- 3:21SPEAKER_05: And we finished it and pretty excited about that one.
- 3:25SPEAKER_05: Frankie's already claimed it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_05: So he said there's a big deer near there.
- 3:29SPEAKER_05: And he would know, I have no idea.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: But he's he's paying attention.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, getting uh speaking of big deer, I caught up not for a long conversation, but I finally pinned down an old buddy.
- 3:42SPEAKER_05: And uh, we're gonna go visit with Tim Sylvia, who was two-time UFC heavyweight champ.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: The maniac.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: The maniac, Tim Sylvia.
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: And and and look, love watching him.
- 3:54SPEAKER_05: Your mom and I saw him fight in Las Vegas one time.
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: It's a big deal.
- 3:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and he reminds me so much of uh Alan Brown timing-wise, because if he was doing that now, oh you're talking about raining money, but he was, you know, back when it was all getting started, ready tour and all that.
- 4:14SPEAKER_05: But what I remember about Tim was his passion for honey.
- 4:20SPEAKER_05: And uh I remember seeing, I think the first time I saw him was at the I think it was the ATA show.
- 4:26SPEAKER_05: And it's you're not gonna not recognize him if you've ever watched UFC fight.
- 4:31SPEAKER_05: He's like six foot eight.
- 4:32SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_05: And I saw him walking down the aisle and I hollered at him.
- 4:36SPEAKER_05: He turned around, got this big old grin on his face, and we ended up going on some hunting the country hunts and all that.
- 4:42SPEAKER_05: But I remember uh and you know, just struggling.
- 4:46SPEAKER_05: I think he had to teach himself a lot and all that kind of stuff.
- 4:49SPEAKER_05: And uh it's he it was amazing hearing how passionate he was about hunting in the midst of all that gifts.
- 4:58SPEAKER_05: He's a big deal.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:00SPEAKER_05: And uh watched him on TV a lot.
- 5:02SPEAKER_05: But I I I wanted to catch up with him.
- 5:04SPEAKER_05: He's he's trying to lose some weight right now and all that.
- 5:07SPEAKER_05: He's got great social media, and I think it's him still via MMA or something like that, but he's pretty easy to find on Instagram and all that kind of stuff.
- 5:17SPEAKER_05: But I just wanted to kind of catch up with him and see what's going on and get in, you know, he moved out of the train and all that.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know that's uh, well, what's up, Camp?
- 6:35SPEAKER_05: How you doing?
- 6:37SPEAKER_05: Good, man.
- 6:38SPEAKER_05: Have you uh have you been out scouting yet?
- 6:41SPEAKER_05: Uh I'm on the camera view all that.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: I'm just kind of waiting for a coal plant.
- 6:45SPEAKER_05: I got you.
- 6:46SPEAKER_05: I appreciate you taking a little time for us.
- 6:48SPEAKER_05: I know that.
- 6:49SPEAKER_05: Of course, bud.
- 6:50SPEAKER_05: Hey, I appreciate it.
- 6:51SPEAKER_05: Big time.
- 6:51SPEAKER_05: And we're gonna talk about a lot of stuff, mostly hunting.
- 6:55SPEAKER_05: And uh certainly want to talk about the the health thing you're on right now, which is very impressive.
- 7:00SPEAKER_05: I'm saving that to the end.
- 7:02SPEAKER_05: But you can't you can't talk to Tim Sylvia without bringing up some MMA stuff.
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: But first, we're we're kind of introducing you to some new people too.
- 7:11SPEAKER_05: I want to know I want you to tell me where you grew up and how you grew up and what your childhood was like.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Well, I grew up in a little town called Eastbrook, Maine.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: And uh my childhood really wasn't great.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: I had a physically and mentally abusive mom who was an alcoholic, and it it was a rough childhood, you know.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Thank God uh my grandmother's around, my dad was always working, he had no idea any of the stuff that's going on until after I won my first UFC title and uh I did a tell-all interview and he's like, I had no idea any of that was going on when I was gone.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: I'm like, Well I never brought it up 'cause I was so young, you know, I didn't really really talk about it.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: But um you know, I I my uncles would always take me hunting.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: I think I started hunting when I was twelve.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: So uh that kind of got the the itch.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: But in Maine, Maine has really, really hard deer hunting.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: And uh I I never even saw a deer to shoot the whole time I lived there.
- 8:08SPEAKER_05: Was uh was sports, was other sports involved when you were when you were young, baseball, football, hockey, any of that stuff up in Maine.
- 8:16SPEAKER_05: What'd you do?
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: I was in grammar school, I like playing some basketball.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: That's pretty much all we really had.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: Then I went to high school I started wrestling.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: And that's all we really had.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: And then when I got out of high school I I grew so much I started playing playing pro basketball and then I started playing political football.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: And uh I started fighting last year playing football.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: I uh had done the el karate go going through school and stuff and started doing some boxing and stuff at the PA and started doing jujitsu for kids in the US.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: I was like, I wanna learn that stuff, you know.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: A bunch of guys were trained with, you know, just started talking about fights, we'd always, you know, run fights on the weekend, throwing by a bunch of different people and the pay views and stuff, and we would we would watch stuff online and try to learn jujitsu and stuff like that.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: So uh it was a real time, you know, back in before jujitsu anywhere.
- 9:06SPEAKER_05: Damn, what were you always bigger than everybody else?
- 9:10SPEAKER_05: I uh no.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: I was never bigger than anybody else.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: My sophomore year, I was five eight.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: You're kidding.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: So um now five eight my sophomore year after I got my license and was bigger on it, and then uh my junior year came around and I I I might have I might have grew a couple inches, maybe five, ten, six four.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: But the summer before I became a senior, I grew four inches over the summer.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: And I I entered senior year at six four.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: I grew two more inches through the school year at six six, and after I graduated, I went to six eight.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: So I was a late, late bloomer and it was it was crazy.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: It was crazy.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was very painful too.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: I had uh my feet collapsed, I went to flat I had arches and I went flat footed because I grew so fast and so quickly they couldn't keep up.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: And I had to wear like air cast uh on my my feet all through high school and stuff, my senior year, just so I I felt stable and my ankles went really weak and stuff.
- 10:10SPEAKER_05: Holy cow.
- 10:12SPEAKER_05: All right, when was uh your first real fight?
- 10:15SPEAKER_05: I ain't saying UFC, none of that stuff, but you know, uh an organized fight.
- 10:20SPEAKER_05: When was that?
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: Wow or I think I think ninety nine.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: I think 2099, uh, we had like a thing called Rodahon Valley Tuto and uh a bunch of we were all talking about it, and I'm the only one that paid the$35 or$50 to go fight in there, and I went in open hand stripes, no time limit.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: I went in there and knocked the guy out in 14 seconds, and I was like, oh, I like this.
- 10:45SPEAKER_05: Holy cow.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: I I it's 35 or 55, I can't remember what I paid.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: I had to pay the fight now.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: I do know that.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: I remember that very clearly.
- 10:54SPEAKER_05: Six foot eight, I'd walk up there and go, nah, I think I changed my mind, I'm out.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: But how well it's it's crazy you say that because you know, after that that showing people saw me and then I started, you know, committing to other fights on in Rhode Island and Connecticut, and people would see me show up going, nah, I'm not fighting that guy.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: Uh uh I had a lot of I had probably three or four fights that backed out because of that reason, you know, because I was so big and I found out that I had decent hands and stuff, so yeah.
- 11:24SPEAKER_05: Were you uh were you able to train there in Maine?
- 11:27SPEAKER_05: I mean you ended up in US.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: I I did a little bit with the guys that I know and and stuff like that.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: You know, just big tough strong guys and stuff.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Nobody really was great.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: You know, Marcus Davis had really good boxing, he was a boxer and he helped me with my hands and boxing stuff, and and Shannon and Sean would go uh down to Connecticut and train with some jujitsu guys and come back and try to teach us everything they learned and stuff like that.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: But that that's when I after my first fight, I was like, well, if I I really like this, I really enjoy this.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: If I want to get better at this, I need to move someplace else because I'm the best there is in Maine right now, and yeah, I had the old philosophy I need to train with guys that are better than me to become better, and that's that's what Pat Militage focused on.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Iron sharks iron, and if you're the best guy in the gym, eventually you're gonna run out of um room to grow and stuff like that.
- 12:16SPEAKER_07: So when it comes to fighting, uh I moved to Iowa to train with a Militage camp.
- 12:22SPEAKER_07: They just had to throw me in fights, and I was fighting three times a night.
- 12:25SPEAKER_07: Next thing I know, we get the phone call USB thirty nine against a full.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: I went to I went to our UFC event with uh three of the guys that I trained and worked out with, and the first one they had in New Jersey, and we met a bunch of the you know, military and shamrock and all Jesus, and I just tried to I really took a liking to Pat.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: He was gracious enough to give me his phone number and told me to come to Iowa and train, and I said, Well, you're gonna regret that because I'm coming.
- 13:41SPEAKER_05: All right, I'm I'm I'm gonna get off MMA stuff, but I want you to kind of just kind of give and of course it's such a big deal now, and and and timing wise, you were before some of the stuff's going on now.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: An OG, so to speak, but Yeah.
- 13:56SPEAKER_05: What what was it like to win that UFC title, heavyweight title first time?
- 14:03SPEAKER_05: Do you remember that night?
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: Do you remember everything?
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, I remember very I remember it very clearly because um my first UFC title was you know, I worked my way up through the rankings and and uh fought on all kinds of local networks and stuff like that.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: I think I got in UFC, I was fifteen and oh, but I just came off the big Super Bowl 15 man heavyweight tournament.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: I fought four times in two nights.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: And um all knockouts.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: I think I went in I went uh when I was fifteen and oh, I was like I wanna say I was thirteen and oh uh thirteen with thirteen knockouts, I think.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: So I was I was considered a knockout artist and then uh I fought my first UFC event, which was great, love it, he has cabbage, and then the UFC uh calls and said, Well, what do you guys think about Tim fighting for the title?
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: And Monty's like, uh Already?
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Well yeah, Rico thinks he can beat him, so uh Rico wants to fight him.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: So he's Monty brought it to me.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: He's like, What do you think?
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: I go, it's a win-win situation for me.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: If I lose that life small I do a jam.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: If I win, I mean something I do a jam, so I think I'll knock his ass out.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Let's do it.
- 15:10SPEAKER_05: Holy cow.
- 15:11SPEAKER_05: I remember all this, and I'm just doing this for for I was doing famous guy, man.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: It was it was epic.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: It's like uh, you know, I I really wasn't too nervous for that fight.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: I uh I knew I was gonna beat him, and uh I had a great team behind me and uh a great training camp and it it what happened a lot fast and I thought it was gone.
- 15:31SPEAKER_05: Man, a lot of champions came out of that Pat Militage camp, but uh it was uh it was fun to watch.
- 15:36SPEAKER_05: You know, me and my bride got to see you fight in Las Vegas, and I was thrilled to hear you were uh getting into or or you know, already a hunter, but surely when you got to Iowa and you got around all that big deer world up there, were you ready for that?
- 15:54SPEAKER_05: Were were you like a really good hunter?
- 15:56SPEAKER_05: Talk about the early days chasing big deer, because I know you struggle some.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, it's crazy.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: Um, when I first started hunting deer in Iowa, I was dating a gal and her family was big shotgun hunters.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: And um, so I I I had my mother 500 and I was like, Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna deer hunting with you.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: I was already doing some bedroom with some of the boys and stuff.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: And uh I went down that weekend, opening weekend, a shotgun season.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: I didn't even know it was ironic.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: Which was crazy because we didn't do that in Maine.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Um, they were doing this where you push and you drive and and you post up and this and that, and next thing I know I my family rolled around, I've killed five deer already.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh my god, I was hooked.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: I couldn't believe it.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: And uh I was now I was so excited and and then I'm gonna kill the deer when I hunt it in.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: So uh that off season I I really wanted to try bow hunting 'cause I went to hunt November and I heard it was just amazing.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: And uh the gallop and got me a bow and we went down there the week before shotgun season and I I bought a climber and I went up this tree because I was doing some scouting and this giant 130, 135 inch temp point I was walking out and I couldn't believe it.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: I wasn't even I didn't even have my gloves off.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: I thought I saw something as I put my leaf on, I was like, oh whatever.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: So I put my gloves on, bro.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh my god, that's a big one.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: And uh he he walked beside me with under 20 yards and I pulled the ball back and back then I was shooting aluminum arrows and the the the rest was aluminum, so when you draw it, it makes it it you can hear it, but I was shaking so bad that the arrow fell off the rough.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: So I'm taking as I'm fully drawn, I'll I'll never forget this.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: As I'm fully drawn, I'm taking my index finger and taking the arrow and putting it over on the rough and it's making all kinds of sort of metal tingling noises.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: And this buck is looking at me like, what the hell is going on over there?
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: And I let that I let that thing rip and he did the the mule kick that you that you that you love to see and ran over two ridges and he disappeared out of my life and I I I was not in the tree for more than ten or fifteen minutes, and I literally started texting my girlfriend's uh dad and I'm like, I just shot a big buck and uh come help me.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: And they're like, Are you serious?
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: Don't mess with this, you know.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: You you've only been there 15 minutes, like I'm serious, like I just Yes, I'm pretty sure it was a great shot, and they come strolling through and we you know, one with two moments and sure enough, there it was.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: And that was the I mean that was curtains.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: Once once I killed a deer with a ball, I was hooked.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:34SPEAKER_05: Did you ever get that nervous before a fight?
- 18:38SPEAKER_05: And I I saw you come out in Las Vegas, and I see the the crowd and all the hoop line, the noise.
- 18:45SPEAKER_05: Did you ever get as nervous at a fight as you did when that buck walked out on you?
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, any you get nervous for fight, no doubt about it.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: And and you know, and on the way in in the locker room and when you're standing in line waiting to be have your name called and come walking on out, you're like, Why the hell am I doing this again?
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: Why like why why?
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: And then like the door closes and you're like, oh my god.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: And then once you get hit the first time, you're like, Oh, okay.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: And then once your hand gets raised and you feel the energy of the crowd and the roar, that's when you're like, Oh, this is why I'm doing it.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: You can't you can't mimic this.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I I don't know.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, uh obviously I was nervous and stuff when I saw, but that first beer kill with the bow and arrow was I'll never forget it.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: I I I mean Yeah, I I I don't know.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: I I mean I say I don't I don't remember shaking my bad walking out to a fight, so uh see I was shaking bad not that knocked the arrow off the uh the rest, I guess.
- 19:51SPEAKER_05: Holy cow.
- 19:53SPEAKER_05: Uh y w you were bow hunting when I met you, and we've been knowing each other a long time.
- 19:57SPEAKER_05: Did when you were getting into all that at six foot eight, did did you have trouble getting fitted for stuff?
- 20:04SPEAKER_05: Could they was it tough to find gear?
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: I started bow hunting like in two thousand three or four and uh they only made a thirty-one inch straw, and I'm a I'm probably a thirty-three.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: So I had to figure out how to shoot this bow with a thirty-one inch straw, which I did, you know, uh with a longer loop and uh the release has sent it all the way, it worked for me and I became pretty good at it.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: But then as years gone by, you know, they started coming out with thirty-two and thirty-three.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: And I started shooting I tried shooting a thirty-three and it threw me way off.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: My ankle points were different, everything was different, but I've gone back to a thirty-one.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Uh, just because that's what I'm used to.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: That's what I learned on them, that's how I feel most proficiently.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, at least with some shoulder injuries and shoulder times I have a crossbow turn right now, so uh that's a heck of a lot easier.
- 21:00SPEAKER_05: Or or I was digging some pictures, I'm gonna list some pictures up off Instagram.
- 21:05SPEAKER_05: Or uh and there's all kind of stuff in there, ducks and deer and all this stuff.
- 21:10SPEAKER_05: Are whitetails still your favorite?
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: I I could I could never hunt a turkey or a uh waterfowl or a plant bird ever again.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: As long as I can have deer hunting.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: I I just I know everybody's different.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: I know you're you rather turkey hunt than you would deer hunt.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I think I don't know.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: I I I just they just get me fired up and I live in a great state of Iowa and I have Illinois thirty minutes away, Wisconsin two hours away, uh Missouri, you know, thirty minutes from my farm.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: I have so many big buck space that I can go ahead and w which cost little or nothing, you know, except for over kind of ties and stuff.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: So I'm very fortunate I love white air.
- 21:53SPEAKER_05: Well, you certainly live in the place to do it.
- 21:55SPEAKER_05: They are different deer up there.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: They are we're we're always working.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Not only are they and you've been around, we're gonna talk about your TV stuff and all that too, but these deer down here are just vampires and y'all will move.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they will move at some point.
- 22:10SPEAKER_05: Before we get on to that stuff, tell me about Maverick.
- 22:13SPEAKER_05: I I can remember when he came along and he's in a bunch of your pictures.
- 22:16SPEAKER_05: How's Maverick, your son, doing?
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: He's doing good.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: He's 15, actually.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: He just uh I just picked him up from school and uh my mom he had to get changed for his first day of work at Wedding's Ice Cream.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: If you've ever been in the Midwest, or I don't want sure how far they venture, but Wedding's ice cream is some of the best ice cream in the world.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: And uh we we got him a job there and he starts today, two to five.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Or two to six, I'm not even sure.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, he's he's excited about it because all clothes on bottom clothes at work and uh good discounts there, and they pay him very well for an hour.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: It's like 15 bucks an hour for a 15-year-old and work seven ice cream that's pretty good.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: And for what I understand, a lot of people in the area, you know, they're kids and stuff all fight out of wedding, and so it's a great place to work, and they're it's a good organization.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: So first I think he's excited, a little nervous, but uh, I said you got this buddy, you did just fine.
- 23:14SPEAKER_05: Well, all in pictures, uh they're go ahead.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's he's six foot now, or fifteen.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: He's bigger than I was when I was fifteen.
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: You think you'll make it to six eight?
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you'll make it a six eight.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: I'm afraid his mom might have kind of gross because she's like five five.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: So uh but I don't know, my mom was like five eight, my dad was five ten, but my mom has got brothers uh that are six four and six five.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: So we believe that's where I got my my height from.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: But um, I don't know.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: I I don't I I kinda hope not because it's hard to find clothes, it's hard to fit into vehicles, go on flights and being as big as I am.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: I don't want him to deal with all that, and he's not an athlete, so it's not gonna help him anyway.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: He doesn't want anything to really do this for so you know, if six six two to four, maybe max would be good for him, and that way uh he can fly a little bit easier, find clothes a little easier.
- 24:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 24:11SPEAKER_05: Well, you tell him we ask about him, and uh I will we were checking on him.
- 24:16SPEAKER_05: Speaking of six eight, and it's been a while since you were in the US C, but you had a big run on TV.
- 24:21SPEAKER_05: We're gonna talk about that.
- 24:22SPEAKER_05: Do you do you still get recognized when you go to get gas, go into cafes?
- 24:26SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Does that happen a lot?
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it does, especially when I'm not around town.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Like when I'm in other states and stuff like that, I get it a lot more.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Um, and even more so now that I'm back down to where I was when I was fighting, you know, I I blew up and I got to about 412 pounds with bad knees and had knee surgeries and stem cells and just on a health trick journey.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: And I'm back I'm down at 275 now, and uh I'm more recognizable when I'm 275 than I was when I was 412.
- 24:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 24:55SPEAKER_05: Well, we're gonna talk about that at the end.
- 24:57SPEAKER_05: I want to know everything about that.
- 24:58SPEAKER_05: That's uh I know how hard that is, but holy cow.
- 26:45SPEAKER_05: Helps me do that in a way that makes it all that using the next step optimal wind shooter should be consuming makes it easy for them to understand it.
- 27:04SPEAKER_05: Using that closed way of taking them three topographic over code makes it like a heavy world.
- 28:17SPEAKER_05: I want you to kind of relive, because that's a pretty big journey.
- 28:21SPEAKER_05: That's a lot to put on one person to grow up in Maine, go through that USC stuff, two-time heavyweight champion.
- 28:29SPEAKER_05: I still can't imagine that.
- 28:31SPEAKER_05: And then learning a lot about hunting, and all of a sudden you got a couple of hunting shows.
- 28:37SPEAKER_05: How how did the TV stuff start for you?
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: You know, I was I think when I first met you in uh 2005, whatever, I just went to an ATA show with a couple guys that were doing a DVD and they wanted me on the DVD, and uh they were giving me some free bows and some free camo and some this is great.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: Like, who you should come to the ATA with us, and uh, yeah, I'd love to.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: What's that?
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, it's this bad, and so on and so forth, and you know, we went, and uh I could not believe how recognized I was.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Everybody wanted me on their show, the head shows, you know, the jewelry and riff and jewelry, and uh I think one of the highlights is I don't know if I told you this before, but I'm walking down one of the aisles and I hear someone in a southern ass voice, Kim! Tim Sylvia, Kim, Kim, and I turn around and it's you running and jogging at me.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: You're like, Oh my god, I'm a big fan, and I'm like, oh my god, this is Sug Triple and he knows who I am.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: Because I was watching you, you know, back in the day before I even left left Maine to go to Iowa, and um you were like, What do you wear for Camo?
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: You're like, no, you know, you know, you go, you know what, never mind, I know.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: You wear mixed match.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: I'm like, what do you how do you know?
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: He's like two pictures.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: You wear real tree and machios.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: We want you to wear machios.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: So, you know, you brought me back to the booth and introduced me everybody, and you're like, what's it gonna take to you know get you in the mace?
- 30:01SPEAKER_13: I'm like, I don't know, I I never I thought I I don't even know the difference.
- 30:04SPEAKER_13: I didn't even know I wore mismatch camo.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: And then uh you brought me to like a bathroom down to you know and and gave me a shopping card and said, load up.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: And I never I think who was the cameraman?
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Was it Yacht?
- 30:17SPEAKER_05: Yack, we still got the video.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: Are you putting him to Yacht was with me and I was grabbing something because that's real tree?
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: I'm like, Well, how did you tell the difference?
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: And uh now I can see a camouflage a mile away and I know exactly if it's a real tree or my own.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: So um, yeah, that was that was kind of the beginning, and you know, you asked about finances and stuff like that, and I said, you know what?
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: I go just just know that someday I'm gonna have a TV show and you know, just kind of think about me when that comes around and you guys did, man.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: You guys took care of me, and um when I when I retired and I started my TV show, you guys sponsored and stuff, and that was when the shed was running things, and Kim Anderson was around and became very, very good friends with Tim Anderson, and that's definitely one of the guys I missed the most out of the whole situation of of the honey industry and stuff like that.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, I uh just just said remember when I when I did my own hunting show, I think ten years later I I did that.
- 31:12SPEAKER_05: I don't know if you knew how many UFC real, you know, I was a real fan.
- 31:16SPEAKER_05: I was watching it way back.
- 31:18SPEAKER_05: I just love that.
- 31:19SPEAKER_05: And Yacht may have been the only guy here that was a bigger fan of you than me.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: And he we put that hunt, I think it was a hunt in Texas out there at Kevin Burrison's and he said.
- 31:29SPEAKER_13: Hunt in Texas.
- 31:30SPEAKER_05: And uh Yock's like, I'm going on that.
- 31:32SPEAKER_05: I don't care if I gotta quit.
- 31:34SPEAKER_05: I said, you can go, you can go film Tim.
- 31:36SPEAKER_05: And we we were looking for that video the other day.
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: Uh he kept on and kept on and kept on about wanting you to put him in a sleeper hole.
- 31:44SPEAKER_05: He thought it was real funny until it happened.
- 31:47SPEAKER_05: That video is priceless.
- 31:49SPEAKER_05: It takes like 3.5 seconds, and he just dropped.
- 31:54SPEAKER_05: And he today that's like one of the coolest things that ever happened to him.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: He he used to I do that a lot.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: I just did it like a few weeks ago.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: Well, I was in, I was overseas for the troops.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: And um we did like a 10-day tour to do some morale boosting and stuff like that, and uh a couple guys wanted me to choke him out.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: Some guys one of the guys wanted me to slap him because I was gonna do some slap fighting and stuff.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: And it's crazy.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: Some guys wanted to lay launch a leg kick them.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: So I've done I think I did that on my first ATA.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: I leg kick the guy and choke the guy out of the APA.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: The guy choked out actually just really basically just pissed me out.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: He just kept he was a drunk and he kept bugging me and bugging me and like telling me I wasn't off.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Just just being playful, but I had not at the mouth and I finally just scratched him up and choked him out and let him lay on the the Atlanta floor of the of uh the uh hotel and Yeah, that was and then I obviously the jury started because the next day Terry's like, I want you to be my brother.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: Come on, we're gonna go to his room.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: And um when the elevator door opens up and Mike sees me, he's like, Oh hell no, I don't want no, no, no.
- 33:02SPEAKER_05: That was funny as hell.
- 33:04SPEAKER_05: That's uh that's crazy.
- 33:06SPEAKER_05: I I I'm I'm glad you liked your reaction when you got into that hunting world.
- 33:10SPEAKER_05: Lots of lots of fight fans around there.
- 33:13SPEAKER_05: You know, Lauren's oldest, Lauren's oldest boy, Matt, he he he got into that for a couple of years, and we went to some local fights up there in Tupelo, and man, people just don't know how what you gotta do to get to that level.
- 33:27SPEAKER_05: It's just it's just unbelievable.
- 33:29SPEAKER_05: Now, you know, I and here's the deal, and it's like when you get to be the world champ, you that's nobody can ever take that away from you, and you did it twice.
- 33:40SPEAKER_05: And the fact that you were willing to talk about hunting and all that stuff, it was so cool.
- 33:45SPEAKER_05: So, man, that's just great.
- 33:47SPEAKER_05: How how's your body holding up?
- 33:48SPEAKER_05: We're fixing to talk about your weight loss journey, but how's how's everything else?
- 33:52SPEAKER_05: Knees, neck, hands, arms that you got broke, how's all that stuff?
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm sore every day, but you know, now that I've lost a lot of weight, that helps a lot.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: And I've had some good surgeries and fixed my knee one of my knees, and the stem cells in T1 are, I think, with game changer.
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: And uh now shoot the steptides though.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: I've actually I've become a big advocate of peptides.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: I'm actually selling peptides and uh they're they're they're a nice tool as well, you know.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: There's lots of things that happen as you get older and as times change and so much information's available on the internet and stuff like that, but I've been doing a lot of research and stuff, and all this stuff's been working out good for me.
- 34:29SPEAKER_05: Tell me about the weight loss.
- 34:31SPEAKER_05: Where'd you start?
- 34:32SPEAKER_05: Why did you start?
- 34:33SPEAKER_05: Why is it important?
- 34:34SPEAKER_05: How'd you do it?
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Well, uh weight loss started um three years, maybe three years this January, I ended up getting in I my knees were really bad.
- 34:44SPEAKER_02: And my my my worst one was my right knee, so I went in and get a full knee replacement surgery.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: And uh scheduled through the other one quickly a week later, and I was just in physical therapy, and I really wasn't where I wanted to be with my knee.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: I just thought I'm gonna postpone it for next year.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: So I'm chilling in physical therapy.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: My my physical therapy was like, Man, he's you're the probably the best patient I've ever had.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: He was you doing a really good job.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: I was really lost.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I lost any.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: He's like, Oh, you lost some.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: So I went home and tracked and I was 388 and 412.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: And I came out and told him, he's like, Well, once you find one for Jimmy Days, you know, here's like, okay, so I started doing that and I was kind of a little sprack under my butt and I just started eating a little better, and um now I'm working out, you know, five days, six days a week and just started the weight loss journey, and it was I started five goals, you know, I was my next four three twenty-five, and then I got three twenty-five.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Okay, my next four is three fifty, I got to three fifty, and the next one's three twenty-five, and I I I made it away, but then I just kind of fell down at three twenty-five.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: Um and up uh 15 minutes like a year after a year after the first one, and I was like, had the opportunity to go to CPI and New Mexico, or in Mexico, like for two in Tijuana to use stuff felt down.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: So I went there and had that done, and then that just felt amazing, but I still kind of fall at 325, 4.5, uh, did a bunch of research, started getting more to P5, and um changed up my training a little bit more, tried to get more cardio, and weird ball in my diet, and now I was coming down to 275, and I'm like, oh my, I I never thought I would be here.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: I was now fighting out three I was three hundred, I had a cut to make you know two fifty-five.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: Now I walk around at at two seventy-five, and I'm in the gym every day, every you know, five days a week, if not like uh strength training four days a week and you know, cardio five to six days a week, a lot of stretching and and stuff like that.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: But um I I feel great, man.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: I I think this is the best shape I've ever really ever been in.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: I've been you know I was in twenty, thirty, I was in great shape because of my age and you know, working out MMA, but now I'm just lifting really hard and and doing the crazy I'm supposed to do, and it's working for me.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: I think I got it dialed in for being, you know, fifty years old.
- 36:56SPEAKER_05: And uh just did it through hard work.
- 36:58SPEAKER_05: Man, that's impressive.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: Well, hard work's never been a stain game for me.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: So, you know, being becoming a reality world champion, that's something we had to do, and I was able to do it, you know, a bunch of times.
- 37:09SPEAKER_05: Well, you're looking good.
- 37:10SPEAKER_05: Your Instagram's good.
- 37:11SPEAKER_05: I hope y'all follow Tim Sylvia, MMA on Instagram.
- 37:14SPEAKER_05: That's why I keep up with him.
- 37:16SPEAKER_05: But uh man, I appreciate it.
- 37:18SPEAKER_05: I know it's close to dear son.
- 37:19SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna ask you two more questions.
- 37:21SPEAKER_05: And then I'm gonna let you go.
- 37:22SPEAKER_05: I want you I want your uh not necessarily your favorite, I want your most vivid memories from one from a UFC or a fight, and the other one from a hunt.
- 37:34SPEAKER_05: So g tell me your your most vivid memory from a fight.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: Uh it would I mean it's gonna have to be my first UFC fight.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: That was always my goal.
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: You know, once I started fighting again, UFC.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: My first UFC I was against Travis Carrera.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: Who and I were both in uh football in Hawaii, and he faked an injury because he was worried about the the next opponent, which would have been me.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: So he faked an injury and Alternate came in and um and I uh UFC did use were against each other, so and I had a hell of a show and I beat the brakes off of him for uh one round and the next round the corner had to stop him because he was just ended up beating so bad.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: And I was just absolutely amazing, you know.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: But you never forget a world title fight.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: I think you know the second world title fight against the Lost meant the most um just because I really had a time from the ranking to work my way back up after a broken arm and a a couple of losses and stuff, and I was really down to myself, down in the front of the guide and earned that title shot.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: I really didn't feel like I earned the first title shot.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: I don't feel like it was given to me because Rico was a punk and he thought he could give me 45 minutes.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: So I just kind of because he he thought I was weak and obviously I wasn't.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: And uh yeah.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Hunting was crazy sound.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: My biggest big best hunt I ever been on was just last year in Maine for a main booth.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: Um been after that tag for 30 years, and uh my buddy Fanny put me on his tag, um, and he grew and grew up there, and it was just the best hunt I've ever had.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Um, but I was also with my high school buddies that I grew up with and hung out with in Maine and stuff, guys went to school with.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: We hunted in our hometown and welfare, Maine, and yeah, it was just amazing how it all went down, how it was something I'll never forget.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: And we'll be on the show this year, and it was just the best time ever, and I I just wish we could do that every year, you know.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: But it probably wouldn't mean as much if we could do it every year, but it was just amazing.
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: It's something I've always wanted to do and was fortunate to do it.
- 39:42SPEAKER_05: And we harvested one on the third day, so that venison's pretty good too, buddy, off of that moose.
- 39:49SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: I love moose me.
- 39:51SPEAKER_05: It's the best.
- 39:51SPEAKER_05: You and uh I agree.
- 39:53SPEAKER_05: I saw you and uh Orloski have a man, y'all got a history.
- 39:58SPEAKER_05: And I saw a picture, I was scanning on your Instagram thing, and you and him, I don't know how long ago, but you know, arm in arm, smiling.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: I was like last year at uh in Texas um when he had his uh BTSC debut.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and um we we're friends, yeah.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: We gotta we exchange numbers, we're gonna do some hunting together and stuff.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: But um there's a possibility him and I might fight here in the next near future.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: We're the same age, and he's the heavyweight champion in BTSC, so I'd let them know.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: I said, tell him I'll fight him if he wants for the belt.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: And they're very interested, so there's a chance I might do that, but it's gonna happen rather sooner than later.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: If he can do it, I know I can do it.
- 40:38SPEAKER_05: Holy cow.
- 40:40SPEAKER_05: Look, I'd love to see it, but I hope you don't.
- 40:42SPEAKER_05: You're having too much fun, you're in good shape, you need to keep after them deer.
- 40:46SPEAKER_05: So, man, I appreciate you taking a little time with us.
- 40:49SPEAKER_05: It's good to catch up.
- 40:50SPEAKER_05: I hope to run into you again.
- 40:52SPEAKER_05: Um, one of my favorite pictures in the world is in our little man then when you came and visited with us.
- 40:58SPEAKER_05: I'm glad you made a hunt in the country run with us, and everything's going so well.
- 41:04SPEAKER_05: Lots of good memories from there, brother.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: Definitely.
- 41:08SPEAKER_05: All right, Tim.
- 41:08SPEAKER_05: We appreciate it.
- 41:09SPEAKER_05: Look, keep me posted on Deer Season.
- 41:12SPEAKER_05: Send me a picture every once in a while.
- 41:13SPEAKER_05: We miss you down here.
- 41:15SPEAKER_05: Yes, sir.
- 41:16SPEAKER_05: Sounds good, folks.
- 41:17SPEAKER_05: See you, brother.
- 41:18SPEAKER_04: Bye, buddy.
- 41:19SPEAKER_04: Bye.
- 41:20SPEAKER_04: Hey folks, it's Jeff Fox.
- 41:22SPEAKER_04: You know, when I was a kid, my dad bought back the farm that he had grown up on.
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: And I absolutely love that place.
- 41:29SPEAKER_04: I knew every square in it of it.
- 41:31SPEAKER_04: It truly was my favorite place in the field.
- 41:34SPEAKER_04: And when you're looking to find a favorite place for you and your family, today a little bit funny.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: That's okay.
- 41:47SPEAKER_05: That's okay.
- 41:48SPEAKER_05: It's uh it's always fun kicking out with somebody like that.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: I feel like that feels more realistic.
- 41:52SPEAKER_03: It's like you're on the call with us.
- 41:55SPEAKER_05: Do you have a still with a story?
- 41:57SPEAKER_03: Well, I guess my own.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: And like your introduction is me watching fights with you, and you think he's just like kind of a story.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: You know, like just like vow.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: But he was he's one of those guys that like he's an intimidating president, but we needed to know him for just a victory.
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: And we were gonna watch he was here, he was in town.
- 42:20SPEAKER_03: And there was a flight coming on.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: And you and Payne were like, if y'all want to order the pay-per-view, we can all and I'm like, how cool, we're gonna watch a fight with him still feel like this is the coolest thing ever.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: And I couldn't get comfortable because I was way pregnant with my oldest.
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: And I could I would move from one chair to the cat, I was sitting about the fireplace.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: And he was like, What's your problem?
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: I said I couldn't get comfortable for it.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: He went outside and got one of these huge metal lounge chairs that had food.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: They were like everything.
- 42:53SPEAKER_03: And he just brought it in there instead of it in front of TV sit right there.
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: And I was like, oh, this is so much better because I had my feet brought up there.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: And then like you look at him and you think he's just like the toughest, the meanest tough guy.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: And then he does something like that.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, wow, he's so nice.
- 43:10SPEAKER_05: He is a tough guy.
- 43:12SPEAKER_05: Got his arm broken a ring and wouldn't stop.
- 43:14SPEAKER_05: They had the phototyling.
- 43:15SPEAKER_05: I mean, golly, that's that's crazy.
- 43:18SPEAKER_05: When he was out here visiting with us, we cooked him a steak that was so big I had to butterfly it.
- 43:28SPEAKER_05: And if you've ever had a butterfly steak, it looks like a rose, man.
- 43:31SPEAKER_05: I don't think he eats like that anymore.
- 43:33SPEAKER_05: He's kind of on a health kick.
- 43:34SPEAKER_05: And I and I was glad to hear his body's doing good because I mean great.
- 43:38SPEAKER_05: He did that stuff for a long time.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: And that's that's stress, like that's some long term fallout people deal with.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, them MMA guys are tough, tough, tough.
- 43:50SPEAKER_05: But he's uh he's living life large now, talking about deer hunting and all that stuff and following back around.
- 43:56SPEAKER_05: And I love a story with a happy ending, and he seems to be doing great.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: Even after decades of getting, you know, hit and hitting people and getting knocked down and wrestling and choking and all that kind of stuff, it's it's pretty amazing stuff.
- 44:10SPEAKER_05: So it is.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: It was interesting.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: Some of that his backstory, some of that I hadn't even heard before.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: So I thought that was a great episode.
- 44:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 44:18SPEAKER_05: Well, you know, he's been retired for a little while, and you know, it ain't what you done, it's what you've done lately.
- 44:24SPEAKER_05: But he was an old buddy.
- 44:25SPEAKER_05: My favorite footage of him.
- 44:27SPEAKER_05: I'll try to find it.
- 44:28SPEAKER_05: I I know what's around there.
- 44:30SPEAKER_05: It's the biggest fan we had of that MMA stuff, and especially Tim Sylvia, was Yack.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: Yakapo Ray.
- 44:36SPEAKER_05: Yakapo Ray.
- 44:38SPEAKER_03: Ruleville, Mississippi.
- 44:39SPEAKER_05: Ruleville, that's where it was.
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: That's where he was from.
- 44:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, over in a little bitty town over in the Delta.
- 44:44SPEAKER_05: But he he came as an editor and he wanted to go on some trips, ended up being a field producer.
- 44:49SPEAKER_05: But he he loved Tim Sylvia, and I let him go to Texas.
- 44:53SPEAKER_05: They went to heart of Texas and uh with Kevin Burrison, who's another MMA fan, but Yaak was on him the whole time.
- 45:01SPEAKER_05: Hey man, put me in that sleeper.
- 45:02SPEAKER_05: Put me in that sleeper.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: Help me out.
- 45:04SPEAKER_05: And we we and he said, all right, y'all get them cameras running.
- 45:08SPEAKER_05: And I think it was like less than four seconds.
- 45:37SPEAKER_09: It's like I was vibrating, man.
- 45:41SPEAKER_09: Was I twitching?
- 45:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you just I mean And his feet went out from under him and his face turned.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: Out.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: He went like a dish rag.
- 45:52SPEAKER_05: And I was like, all right, you got what you asked for.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: Then when he came to, he was like jerking around.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: It was crazy.
- 45:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he was flexing about it, and I was like, man, you are crazy.
- 46:02SPEAKER_05: We're gonna have to make sure Yock listens to the podcast, and we miss Jock, I guarantee you that.
- 46:08SPEAKER_05: Alright, well that said, we're moving on toward boat season, toward colder weather.
- 46:12SPEAKER_03: Yep, hopefully.
- 46:14SPEAKER_05: And uh I'm not gonna go into any long detail about it, but you know, we lost Colonel Tom Kelly last week, and Laura and I are gonna put together a special episode for that.
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: Not looking forward to it, but I do look forward to doing honor and having a tribute to him because what a special guy.
- 46:32SPEAKER_05: He's like, you know, John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Nick Saban.
- 46:38SPEAKER_05: You know, he was just everything in Turkey World.
- 46:41SPEAKER_05: And his daughter Laura is just as much special as he was.
- 46:44SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 46:45SPEAKER_05: And if you don't know about her, you need to follow Tom Kelly books, but we're gonna do a tribute to him.
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: So with that said, from me and Laureen out here at the Camo Cave North, where it's slightly damp, and I ain't complaining.
- 46:57SPEAKER_05: God bless each and every one of you.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: We'll see you in seven days.
