- 0:00Aloha. Saturday morning in Hawaiʻi. I'm Mele with what's happening across the islands today.
- 1:22Strong trade winds are still cranking today, especially on Maui and the Big Island with scattered windward showers. But a drier air mass moves in tonight, so Sunday shapes up much brighter. Winds start to ease tomorrow. If you're planning beach time, stick to leeward shores where it's calmer and drier.
- 1:38Surf-wise, south-facing beaches are running moderate at 4.4 feet on Oʻahu and 4.7 feet on Kauaʻi today. North shores are small at 3.9 feet on Oʻahu and 3.3 feet on Maui. The Big Island is calm at 1.8 feet. Leeward snorkeling looks solid this weekend.
- 1:50Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is operating with alerts in place. Kahuku Unit roads are closed, Kīpukapuaulu Trail is temporarily closed due to hazardous trees, and lava tube bridge work is underway. Check ahead if you're heading to the summit.
- 2:02Our new piece on sea glass hunting covers where to find it legally, which beachcombing rules catch visitors off guard, and the best spots on each island. If you're planning a beach day this weekend, the guide walks through what you can actually keep and where.
- 2:15South-facing beaches will see a jump to high surf advisory levels Monday and Tuesday. Winds strengthen again by Friday as high pressure builds back in.
- 2:23Grab the sea glass guide if you're heading to the beach. Talk to you tomorrow.
