  little something, a little something that I've

  recently found out. A revelation regarding one

  of the ghost stories that my cousin Charlie sent

  in to me for the Halloween episode. When I was

  putting this episode together, I was listening
• 0:34
  to Charlie's story and I was listening to Jono's
• 0:37
  analysis of it. He was tapping in psychically
• 0:39
  and he was telling me what he was picking up
• 0:41
  on. At the time, the things that he was saying,
• 0:45
  I couldn't take because it wasn't lining up with
• 0:48
  my knowledge of the property. But whilst I was
• 0:51
  editing this episode, I wanted to get my facts
• 0:53
  straight and I texted my auntie to find out how
• 0:56
  old the house in France actually is. And she
• 1:00
  told me something on that message which took
• 1:04
  my breath away. Before we get into that though,
• 1:06
  let's just recap on what Charlie's story was.

  I won't go from the very beginning. I'm just
• 1:11
  going to cut in to where she starts talking about
• 1:14
  the house in France. So here is just a recap
• 1:17
  of Charlie's story of her paranormal experiences
• 1:21
  in France. The second story was in France. Me
• 1:29
  and Dom used to hear feet running up and down
• 1:31
  the stairs like in clogs. One night we both woke
• 1:34
  up in the night and we thought our parents were
• 1:36
  having a party downstairs. We could sort of hear
• 1:38
  bar sounds and chatting and drinks. We went down
• 1:49
  and there was no one there. And everyone was
• 1:53
  in bed. and then one evening everyone went out
• 2:00
  for a fireworks display and I stayed at home
• 2:03
  and I was lying in bed reading and just all of
• 2:06
  a sudden out of nowhere I felt a really big rough
• 2:09
  hand sweep across my face and sort of tuck my
• 2:13
  hair behind my ear and I could feel all the calluses
• 2:16
  on the fingers and I could just feel every bit
• 2:18
  of this hand on my face and I... I was terrified,
• 2:22
  I screamed, I ran out the house and I sat in
• 2:25
  the pouring rain staring at all the windows to
• 2:28
  see if I could see anything until my parents
• 2:30
  got back about an hour later and they just found
• 2:33
  me soaked, sat outside. So if you are not chilled
• 2:40
  to the bone by that story yet again on the second
• 2:43
  time of hearing it, well, well done you. If you
• 2:47

  but going back to Charlie's story I was texting

  my auntie just to make sure that I was getting

  the date of the house right and she said something

  to me in that text message and straight away
• 3:14
  I had to record a call with her. So I got her
• 3:18
  on my recording suite and this is the conversation.

  Hi, Sylvia, how are you? I'm fine, thank you.
• 3:41
  And you? Yeah, I'm good, thank you. I just wanted
• 3:44
  to give you a quick call. I've just been editing
• 3:48
  the episode for, well, the Halloween episode
• 3:51
  and the Christmas episode, which not only have
• 3:54
  you very kindly given your ghost story of the
• 3:58
  house in France, but also so did Charlie. She
• 4:01
  was talking about the house in London, she was
• 4:03
  talking about the house in France, and... I just
• 4:06
  wanted to clarify something. How old is the house
• 4:11
  in France? We're really not sure, but we've been
• 4:14
  told between 500, at least 500 years old, but
• 4:20
  it possibly was there at the same time as the
• 4:22
  abbey, which would make it 900 years old. There
• 4:26
  was some sort of building there 900 years ago.
• 4:30
  Okay. We've just been having a little text exchange
• 4:33
  and I needed to call you because something you
• 4:36
  said in that text exchange just sort of blew
• 4:38
  my mind. You said that the building in France,
• 4:44
  the house in France, used to be some sort of
• 4:47
  inn, is that correct? That's what we've been
• 4:50
  told and the name Le Logis means lodging of some
• 4:56
  kind. So we were told by a local historian many
• 5:01
  years ago that they believed it was when the
• 5:04
  local dignitary came to visit the Abbey down
• 5:08
  the road, they would stay at our house because
• 5:12
  the Abbey was too uncomfortable for the gentry.
• 5:17
  So just by dint of the name that it's called
• 5:20
  the Lodgy, it's been some sort of lodging or
• 5:25
  somebody else once told us that it was a coaching
• 5:28
  stage, that there were maybe a stop for a main
• 5:33
  route between two points. So yeah, some sort
• 5:37
  of in. See, in my mind, the house is just too
• 5:41
  remote to be anything like that. So when you
• 5:44
  said that on your text message, I was shocked
• 5:46
  because I want to play you something. Well, you've
• 5:49
  not heard this yet. This has not gone out live
• 5:51
  or anything. So I just want to play this to you,
• 5:53
  okay? It feels like that place used to be a pub
• 5:56
  or a village bar or that sort of a feel to...
• 5:59
  I don't obviously know what the building looks
• 6:01
  like in France. Do you know any history of it?
• 6:05
  I do know the history of it. It's not a bar.
• 6:07
  It's not a pub. It's far too remote to be anything
• 6:10
  like that. Right, so that and then... I mean,
• 6:15
  I'm still guessing that that place was a place
• 6:19
  where people gathered and drank alcohol and celebrated.
• 6:23
  Possibly. I mean, it's got a very long history.
• 6:25
  That's really interesting. So he picked up on
• 6:28
  that? Yeah, that is incredible. Because we've
• 6:32
  never told you that. You've never heard that
• 6:35
  history before. I have no idea. I have no idea.
• 6:39
  What do you think of that? It's a bit uncanny,
• 6:42
  isn't it? That we've never spoken about this
• 6:46
  to you and yet somehow he's picked that up. Is
• 6:51
  there anything else? Well, the other thing I
• 6:53
  was going to say is that we had a friend who
• 6:59
  came to the house and she was half Indian. So
• 7:03
  she believed very much in spirits and was very
• 7:06
  open to all of that. And we always felt that
• 7:11
  the house was a very happy place. That's really
• 7:14
  why we bought it. It had such a nice atmosphere,
• 7:17
  even when it was in a really poor. condition,
• 7:21
  it just had this very happy vibe to it. So when
• 7:24
  our friend came round, I said to her, can you
• 7:27
  see anything? Can you sense anything in the house?
• 7:30
  And she said, oh, just happy girls laughing,
• 7:35
  clattering down the stairs with jugs of ale when
• 7:39
  it was an inn. So she actually also mentioned
• 7:43
  the alcohol in the inn all that time ago. And
• 7:47
  again, I've never told you about this before.
• 7:50
  No idea. And she also picked up on the clattering
• 7:53
  up and down the stairs, because that is the focus
• 7:56
  of your story. Exactly. And that's why I was
• 8:00
  never really frightened of the steps, because
• 8:02
  she'd said that, because she'd associated that
• 8:05
  with a happy person. It never felt menacing or
• 8:09
  scary. So the couple of times I've heard her,
• 8:12
  I just thought, oh, there she is, the girl clattering
• 8:15
  downstairs laughing. And yeah. So it's never
• 8:19
  been uncomfortable. It was always just part of
• 8:24
  the history of the house, I guess. Because that's
• 8:27
  one thing I was going to ask you. In your story,
• 8:30
  you said you felt like it was a she or you used
• 8:33
  the pronoun she. So I wondered, is that something
• 8:36
  that you picked up on or is that something just
• 8:38
  your friend had told you so therefore you now
• 8:41
  refer to that noise as a she? I would guess it's
• 8:44
  because of that, but also The steps are quite
• 8:48
  light and rapid. They're not like a thumb thumping
• 8:51
  down the stairs It's more Like somebody very
• 8:56
  like put it in clogs coming down the stairs.
• 8:58
  If you like, it's never felt menacing at all

  It's not like, you know a heavy presence So I
• 9:07
  suppose that's why yes, I went along with the
• 9:08
  sheen Okay, that makes sense. That makes sense.

  I thought oh, she knows something she's picking
• 9:13
  up on something but okay and Charlie was telling
• 9:17
  us about her experience of the rough hand on
• 9:22
  her face, and she ran outside and waited in the
• 9:27
  rain for you and Uncle John to come back home.
• 9:31
  I remember it well. She was absolutely petrified,
• 9:37
  absolutely beside herself. She was terrified.
• 9:40
  But it was in the same room where my mum also
• 9:42
  had this experience of a man's presence sitting
• 9:46
  on the bed. But I've never had that, I've never
• 9:50
  been aware of that, but my mum did. Alright,
• 9:55
  so while I've got you here, so the back bedroom
• 9:59
  in London, what's the deal with that then? Because
• 10:03
  Charlie was saying that she used to listen to
• 10:07
  Harry Potter. Harry Potter tapes, and the tape
• 10:11
  used to just stop. I don't think she said it
• 10:14
  at the same place, but I would imagine it was
• 10:15
  the same place, it would just stop every night.
• 10:18
  You bought a new tape player, the same thing
• 10:20
  happened. You changed the CD player, the same
• 10:23
  thing happened. She said that she could just
• 10:27
  feel this presence of a woman brushing her hair
• 10:29
  in her bedroom. When Charlie was very little.
• 10:34
  It was just me and her. Dominic was a baby, I
• 10:39
  think, so Charlie must have been about three.
• 10:43
  And she'd had a bath and we'd sit down on the
• 10:44
  bed in the front bedroom. She looked down the
• 10:48
  court floor towards the back bedroom and said,
• 10:51
  hello, to the empty space. And I was feeling
• 10:57
  a bit okay. I said, there's nobody there, darling.
• 11:01
  And then she looked again and she just burst
• 11:04
  into tears. Sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. I mean,
• 11:08
  we have had things like the 10 versions turning
• 11:11
  themselves off at home on the screen today. But
• 11:14
  not since the children have left, not for a very
• 11:18
  long time. Okay. So when she did that as a baby,
• 11:22
  she was looking towards that back bedroom? She
• 11:25
  was, yeah. How does that make you feel? How does
• 11:31
  that make you living in that house? I was very
• 11:35
  freaked out at the time because it was so natural.
• 11:39
  You know, she was just little. She just said
• 11:42
  hello. I try not to think about it too much after
• 11:49
  that. Can I play you what Jono? thought of this.

  says? Here we go. That back bedroom. I mean,

  to me, if I'm linking it in, it almost feels
• 12:10
  as if this is a motherly figure. This lady, I

  don't know if she was able to see this lady,

  but I get like this gray hair, almost gray wiry
• 12:24
  hair actually with this lady. And the reason
• 12:28
  why the tape player or the Harry Potter keeps
• 12:31
  stopping is because it's your bedtime. You're
• 12:34
  not listening to it anymore. Go to bed, go to
• 12:36
  sleep. That's the feeling that I'm getting with
• 12:38
  this. So it's like a protection from her. And
• 12:43
  I would also, probably she might have felt like
• 12:47
  a grandmother. as well, so maybe she was in that
• 12:51
  sort of an age bracket. I've always held my grandmother
• 12:57
  very close to me and I've always sort of looked
• 13:02
  to her to be present at times when I felt I needed
• 13:05
  her around more. I've certainly held her close
• 13:11
  and asked her for protection at times, especially
• 13:18
  for the children. I think this is what I'm finding
• 13:20
  really interesting because this sort of stuff,
• 13:24
  I think, gets a really bad rap. A lot of people
• 13:26
  say, oh, it's really scary, it's evil. And I'm
• 13:29
  just, the more and more I'm sitting with it,
• 13:31
  the more and more I hear about this sort of stuff,
• 13:36
  I think if we just spin it on its head and say,
• 13:38
  actually, it might not be bad. It might actually
• 13:41
  just be, that's just our perception of something
• 13:43
  we don't understand. And maybe it's something
• 13:46
  positive, maybe it is something protective, like
• 13:49
  time for bed. Well, I have to say that my grandmother
• 13:53
  was a firm, firm believer in life after death
• 13:56
  and always said that if there was any way back,
• 13:59
  she would find it and come back. And that's another
• 14:02
  reason that I've always sort of held her close,
• 14:06
  I guess, because I always thought, well, there
• 14:09
  was half a chance she would try and be around
• 14:11
  and be protecting me, protecting my children.
• 14:14
  So, yeah, it could be the good spirit to hold
• 14:18

  Not got a clue. I knew it was affiliated with

  the local Abbey. I knew that the might or the

  bishop, whatever it might be, went to stay there
• 15:20
  in days gone by. I had no idea it was a pub.

  So when Jono was quite insistent... on tapping
• 15:29
  into that side of Charlie's story, saying, no,
• 15:32
  I'm definitely feeling alcohol. He was bang on
• 15:36
  the nose. Also interesting to hear that my auntie
• 15:40
  Sylvia's friend came out to see the place and
• 15:42
  she picked up on the woman, the girl running
• 15:45
  up and down the stairs and my auntie hears those
• 15:48
  quite regularly in that house. So. I will leave
• 15:52
  that with you. This is going to be the very last
• 15:55
  episode before the 25th of December, before Christmas

  if you celebrate that. If you do have a wonderful

  day, whatever you are doing, whether you are

  with family, whether you are having it on your

  own, whether you are spending it with friends,

  way that you want and if you need to take a break

  look after yourself in a season that can be exciting

  can be lovely but can also be extremely stressful

  put something together um i've got a couple of

  weeks off now where i'm gonna just uh relax but

  i'm probably gonna get tinkering with the old
