- 1:56Speaker 3: Mike Stewart District seven will be available, and we'll have
- 1:59Speaker 3: more as I said on that coming up a little
- 2:01Speaker 3: bit later on. Also on today's show, Chris Miller is
- 2:03Speaker 3: going to join this former gubernatorial candidate and auto dealer
- 2:06Speaker 3: here in West Virginia.
- 2:07Speaker 6: He's going to join us.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Actually it's got places outside West Virginia's he's going to
- 2:10Speaker 3: join us. We'll talk a little politics, but he's actually
- 2:13Speaker 3: here to talk about an event that is going to
- 2:15Speaker 3: be happening in one of his dealerships, Dutch Miller Subaru,
- 2:19Speaker 3: and that's going to be happening next week. It has
- 2:21Speaker 3: to do with animals. So if you know it's got
- 2:23Speaker 3: to do with animals, I'm in So we'll talk to
- 2:24Speaker 3: him about that. Rick Cavan from Charleston Urban Works will
- 2:27Speaker 3: be stopping by as they are getting ready for October
- 2:30Speaker 3: West this Saturday over on the West Side. We'll get
- 2:32Speaker 3: into that. Also, another news item, this twelve car pile
- 2:36Speaker 3: up on the Turnpike near the Ox near the Mossy
- 2:40Speaker 3: exit last night, and this time they got it right
- 2:43Speaker 3: as far as not leaving people stranded out there, using
- 2:45Speaker 3: the detours, the trouble gates, so on and so forth.
- 2:48Speaker 3: All good news story posted about at wv metronews dot com.

- 3:05Speaker 3: Fall is here.
- 3:07Speaker 6: Zach Harold joins us talk about a good morning.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Welcome to the morning, Dave, how are you?
- 3:12Speaker 6: How's that for an intro?
- 3:13Speaker 5: Think?
- 3:13Speaker 6: I got enough staff thrown in there?
- 3:14Speaker 4: Pretty good.
- 3:15Speaker 6: There's a lot going on, man, it's a busy weekend.
- 3:17Speaker 6: It's a busy weekend.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Now, you got so many different things going on, But
- 3:20Speaker 3: I want to talk about Festive Fall because you're the
- 3:22Speaker 3: new director of Festivall Now we're talking Festive Fall, which
- 3:26Speaker 3: is a part of festival. That's right, all right, Burning
- 3:29Speaker 3: on the job, on the Joel Trial by Fire as
- 3:32Speaker 3: they save my friend, all right. So what you got
- 3:34Speaker 3: going on?
- 3:35Speaker 7: Well, tonight is the official kickoff to Festivefall. We had
- 3:38Speaker 7: a pre festival eve drum circle last night, but tonight
- 3:42Speaker 7: is the big kickoff with three things which I know
- 3:44Speaker 7: you've appeared on in the past, Jeff Shirley's Speaker series.
- 3:48Speaker 7: That's gonna be seven pm. Tonight at the Capitol Market.
- 3:52Speaker 7: People don't know. Jeff always picks such a good lineup
- 3:56Speaker 7: of folks. Bob Thompson, the Mountain Stage piano player, the
- 4:00Speaker 7: Clay Centers astrophysicist Shannon Silverman, and then the community organizer
- 4:05Speaker 7: Mavery Davis. They're going to talk about their lives in
- 4:08Speaker 7: the framework that Jeff created where they talk about their
- 4:11Speaker 7: first however they interpret that yea, their favorite and their future.
- 4:15Speaker 3: And that's a great event, by the way. I mean,
- 4:18Speaker 3: it really really is. They've been doing it for a
- 4:20Speaker 3: number of years. And it is interesting because Jeff doesn't
- 4:26Speaker 3: give you guidance as to what the first is. It
- 4:28Speaker 3: could be like what your first job. It could be
- 4:31Speaker 3: your first anything, and then your favorite and again related
- 4:35Speaker 3: to anything that you want it to be, and then
- 4:37Speaker 3: your future and everybody, the three people all interpret that differently,
- 4:41Speaker 3: and Jeff doesn't give you any guidance, which is okay,
- 4:44Speaker 3: it's okay.
- 4:45Speaker 7: It makes it more special in some ways. Like the
- 4:49Speaker 7: example Jeff always gives is when he had Kenny Bass
- 4:52Speaker 7: on the show.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Kenny talked about.
- 4:54Speaker 7: Christmas his first, his favorite, and you know, it's so
- 4:59Speaker 7: interesting to it's a way to get into the lives
- 5:03Speaker 7: of people that we know around town. And that's one
- 5:06Speaker 7: of our few ticketed events. Most of the stuff we
- 5:08Speaker 7: do this weekend is free. But if you want to
- 5:10Speaker 7: get tickets for three things tonight at seven pm, you
- 5:13Speaker 7: can go to Festival Charleston.
- 5:15Speaker 4: That's Festival two l's Charleston dot com.
- 5:18Speaker 6: All right, and so that's just a kickoff.
- 5:20Speaker 4: That's the kickoff, all right. Well, we're gonna keep rolling
- 5:22Speaker 4: right along.
- 5:23Speaker 7: Tomorrow at seven thirty, we have an evening with the
- 5:25Speaker 7: West Virginia Dance Company that's the state's only professional dance company,
- 5:30Speaker 7: like amazing modern choreography. Also that's going to be at
- 5:35Speaker 7: the Culture Center, also a ticketed event. You can get
- 5:37Speaker 7: tickets online at our website. That they're going to be
- 5:40Speaker 7: featuring a piece composed by a West Virginia native, doctor
- 5:45Speaker 7: Richard Grimes. Rolling into Friday, we have Magnolia Boulevard, which
- 5:51Speaker 7: is like a blues rock band, Lake Street drive to
- 5:53Speaker 7: dashy Trucks, Bondi rate type stuff. They're going to be
- 5:56Speaker 7: down at Slack Plaza. It's going to be a great show.
- 6:00Speaker 7: Starts at seven point thirty. And that one was free,
- 6:02Speaker 7: family friendly. At the same time. Well, at six at
- 6:07Speaker 7: Taylor Books, the State.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Poet Laurie at Mark Harshman.
- 6:10Speaker 7: It's going to be hosting an evening with the Poets
- 6:13Speaker 7: featuring Jesse Graves and some young poets from the Poetry
- 6:18Speaker 7: Out Loud organization. Just a jam packed. But then Saturday
- 6:24Speaker 7: is when it really kicks into high gear with the
- 6:26Speaker 7: Harvest Art Fair over at the Capital Market. People are
- 6:31Speaker 7: probably most familiar with the Capitol Street Art Fair that
- 6:34Speaker 7: happens during the summer during Festival. This is kind of
- 6:37Speaker 7: a miniature version of that. But we've got thirty artisans
- 6:41Speaker 7: over there who are cann be selling their stuff. We've
- 6:43Speaker 7: got live music every hour on the hour, some great
- 6:46Speaker 7: bands lined up for that one. It's a good place
- 6:49Speaker 7: to get some early holiday shof and taking care of that.
- 6:52Speaker 7: That's running from ten to six on Saturday at the
- 6:56Speaker 7: Capitol Market. We're also going to have walking tours and
- 7:01Speaker 7: bike tours of downtown. The walking tour starts at ten
- 7:05Speaker 7: thirty they're at the Leaf Street Triangle, and the bike
- 7:07Speaker 7: tour starts at eleven. Those are so cool because you know,
- 7:11Speaker 7: I've worked downtown my entire career, but the things you
- 7:14Speaker 7: walk past every day you kind of take for granted,
- 7:17Speaker 7: and getting somebody like Naomi Base who's going to lead
- 7:20Speaker 7: the walking tour, and then Sam Niguard who's leading the
- 7:22Speaker 7: bike tour. The things that they point out to you
- 7:25Speaker 7: that you just take for granted in your own hometown,
- 7:27Speaker 7: it's it's it's so illuminating. Later that evening, six pm,
- 7:33Speaker 7: we've got a Shakespeare remix at Folklore Music Extrange, really
- 7:37Speaker 7: cool music store there on the corner of what was
- 7:39Speaker 7: that Summers and Lee but the Rustic Mechanicals A Shakespeare
- 7:44Speaker 7: troop from Clarksburger coming in to do a remon Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 7:49Speaker 7: He's doing Jason Well, he's doing a remix of Macbeth
- 7:53Speaker 7: called the Macbeth's It's a two person show. And then
- 7:56Speaker 7: they're going to do Shakespeare Oke.
- 7:58Speaker 6: So Shakespeare, you got that Shakespeare OKIEK.
- 8:03Speaker 7: Saw you English majors come out, come out for that one.
- 8:07Speaker 7: And then we got I'm looking forward to this City
- 8:09Speaker 7: Center Dead at slackl I'm looking forward to all this,
- 8:13Speaker 7: but City Center Dead at Slack Plaza. That's John Ingram,
- 8:16Speaker 7: you know, local musician, bass player for Mountain Stage. He's
- 8:19Speaker 7: got his band Dead Center. They're going to start playing
- 8:21Speaker 7: at Slack Plaza at six pm until ten pm A
- 8:25Speaker 7: Grateful Dead tribute show.
- 8:27Speaker 5: I heard.
- 8:27Speaker 3: I was listening to John yesterday on Hotline with a
- 8:31Speaker 3: Coop and a Weekly when I was driving home.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Yeah. I'll tell you so.
- 8:35Speaker 7: Back when I first started this job, and you know,
- 8:38Speaker 7: I started getting my feet under me and seeing the schedule,
- 8:40Speaker 7: I saw they had a Grateful Dead tribute show playing.
- 8:43Speaker 7: I was like, hey, John, you guys need a Manlin
- 8:46Speaker 7: player for a friend of the Devil.
- 8:47Speaker 4: And I was joking. He texted me a couple of
- 8:50Speaker 4: days ago and he was like, you ready to go?
- 8:53Speaker 7: And I was like, oh, shoot, I need to practice.
- 8:57Speaker 4: So I am both looking forward to in.
- 9:00Speaker 6: Okay at the same time. At the same time.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Can We're talking with Zach Carrold from Festive Fall, but
- 9:05Speaker 3: Dave Island showing five any Lie broad to part by
- 9:07Speaker 3: your hometown baseball team, The Charles so Dirty Bird, Selango
- 9:09Speaker 3: law Light The Night We're turning to go Mark Ballpark
- 9:11Speaker 3: November twenty first through January. First, get your tickets in
- 9:14Speaker 3: advance by visiting dB Lightthanight dot com.
- 9:16Speaker 6: All right, continue on.
- 9:18Speaker 5: All right?
- 9:18Speaker 7: Yeah, well, and then Sunday, final day of festifall the
- 9:22Speaker 7: Harvest Art Fair is back again from twelve to five
- 9:25Speaker 7: with you know those great artisans, local artisans selling their stuff,
- 9:30Speaker 7: more live music every hour on the hour. That's again
- 9:35Speaker 7: from twelve to five at the Capital Market. And then
- 9:37Speaker 7: the Carriage Trail Leafwalk at the Sunrise Carriage Trail there
- 9:41Speaker 7: across from downtown. That runs from one to four pm.
- 9:45Speaker 7: And then what's so cool about that is, you know,
- 9:48Speaker 7: anybody familiar with the Carriage Trail, it's just that nice
- 9:51Speaker 7: winding walk up the side of the hill there. We're
- 9:54Speaker 7: gonna have different live performances scattered around every turn of that.
- 10:00Speaker 7: As you walk along, you're kind of encountering different musicians,
- 10:04Speaker 7: spoken word stuff, theater, dance. It's going to be really special.
- 10:08Speaker 7: At the bottom of the trail, we're going to have
- 10:10Speaker 7: this is brand new Force the Groundworks stage down there,
- 10:14Speaker 7: sponsored sponsored by Groundworks. We're gonna have Matthew Jack for
- 10:17Speaker 7: It's Hot Jazz band which is like a Dixieland jazz
- 10:19Speaker 7: type thing, and Minor Swing which is a Django Reinhardt
- 10:25Speaker 7: style jazz band there at the bottom of the Carria Trail.
- 10:28Speaker 7: At the top, Jeff Pearson of Charleston's Public Office of
- 10:32Speaker 7: Public art is going to be building a sculpture out
- 10:35Speaker 7: of donated stuffed animals.
- 10:37Speaker 6: Uh.
- 10:39Speaker 7: I'm interested to see how that comes comes through. He's
- 10:42Speaker 7: got an incredible he's We've hit every thrift store between
- 10:45Speaker 7: you know here and here in Dunbar trying to get
- 10:49Speaker 7: stuffed animals for this. And he texted me last night
- 10:51Speaker 7: he's like ready, and he sent me this picture of
- 10:53Speaker 7: a giant pile of stuffed animals in his office. It's
- 10:59Speaker 7: gonna be cool, Jeff. Everything Jeff does is cool, but
- 11:02Speaker 7: I'm having a hard time picturing it. But if you
- 11:04Speaker 7: want to contribute stuffed animals to the sculpture, you can
- 11:08Speaker 7: bring him with you to the carriage trail on Sunday
- 11:11Speaker 7: from one to four. Don't expect to get him back.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I think, Okay, once they're sculpted, they can't be unsculpted.
- 11:17Speaker 4: I guess I've heard there will be a nail gun involved.
- 11:21Speaker 6: Lord, so you're gonna get the pita for stuffed animals
- 11:26Speaker 6: involved in this.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know. It's going to be cool.
- 11:29Speaker 4: It's going to be cool, but I'm having a hard
- 11:32Speaker 4: time picturing it. But Jeff has a vision. I trust
- 11:36Speaker 4: his visions.
- 11:36Speaker 6: Artistic types always have a vision.
- 11:38Speaker 7: And what's cool is we're also going to have and
- 11:41Speaker 7: if people want to come to the Carristral Leafwalk, if
- 11:44Speaker 7: you know anything about that area, that little parking lot
- 11:47Speaker 7: there at the bottom is going to fill up fast.
- 11:48Speaker 7: And the best thing to do is probably to try
- 11:50Speaker 7: to find parking at the top where there's a little
- 11:53Speaker 7: bit more space, or find place to park downtown. There's
- 11:56Speaker 7: a city garage right across from the South Side Bridge.
- 11:59Speaker 7: You could park there and just make it. It's an easy, little.
- 12:01Speaker 6: Streetsy little Yeah, it's just another fard off.
- 12:03Speaker 3: So and where's the best place to get We've done
- 12:07Speaker 3: a lot of information at the people.
- 12:08Speaker 6: Where's the best place?
- 12:10Speaker 7: The best place to find all this information is festival
- 12:13Speaker 7: Charleston dot com. First of all, two l's Charleston dot
- 12:16Speaker 7: com or Facebook. We have everything on our Facebook page.
- 12:19Speaker 7: We have all the events are listed as events on Facebook,
- 12:22Speaker 7: so you can see all the information and see which
- 12:26Speaker 7: of your friends are going if you want a carpool.
- 12:28Speaker 6: All right, there you go.
- 12:29Speaker 3: All right, give me a final thirty seconds here on
- 12:33Speaker 3: just the selling of festival. Why just give me a
- 12:36Speaker 3: final little summary and why people should take this in.
- 12:40Speaker 7: Sure, The tagline of our organization is a city becomes
- 12:43Speaker 7: a work of art, But the tagline for Festifall is
- 12:46Speaker 7: and I think it encapsulates it so well.
- 12:47Speaker 4: A season becomes a work of art.
- 12:49Speaker 7: West Virginia's beautiful all year round, but it really shows
- 12:53Speaker 7: itself off in fall, and this is a way to
- 12:55Speaker 7: celebrate that natural beauty while also celebrating the creativity of
- 12:58Speaker 7: the people who live here. And so much creativity, whether
- 13:02Speaker 7: we're talking about visual art, dance, music. We're so blessed
- 13:07Speaker 7: with so many talented people, and Festivefall is a way
- 13:10Speaker 7: to show that off.
- 13:11Speaker 3: All right, Zach Harold, I appreciate you being here, my friend,
- 13:13Speaker 3: having me good luck with everything, because I'd like to
- 13:16Speaker 3: if you go, if you've got one of those step
- 13:17Speaker 3: counters on your wrist, I want to see what it's
- 13:19Speaker 3: gonna look like come Sunday night Monday morning.
- 13:22Speaker 4: I gotta get my fit bit out of the drill.
- 13:24Speaker 6: Well, I call mine the fat bit. So that's that's
- 13:27Speaker 6: what I got, Hey.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Jack, I lives in a drawer.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Well, I told I told the listeners this this a
- 13:32Speaker 3: real quick story. Because nobody makes fun of Dave more
- 13:35Speaker 3: than Dave makes fun of Day sure. Uh so, I'm
- 13:38Speaker 3: a I'm a wristwatch guy. I got several and I

- 13:51Speaker 3: true story, I took it to my my buddy Scott
- 13:54Speaker 3: uh down Logan. I still go to the hometown jewelry
- 13:57Speaker 3: store down there. So I go to my buddy Scott,
- 13:59Speaker 3: whom I went to high school with, owns a jewelry store.
- 14:01Speaker 3: And he said, do you know how kinetic? That's word
- 14:05Speaker 3: I was looking for. I'm wearing to watch today. He said,
- 14:08Speaker 3: do you know how lethargic you have to be to
- 14:10Speaker 3: kill a kinetic watch? I was like, shut up, Scott,
- 14:14Speaker 3: shut up, take my up. Yeah, all right, I appreciate it. Zach,

- 17:19Speaker 6: you doing?
- 17:20Speaker 5: Sir?
- 17:21Speaker 6: Did I call her the wrong name?
- 17:22Speaker 8: No? No, because we try to coordinate when we're going
- 17:25Speaker 8: to talk here.
- 17:26Speaker 6: So here's the thing.
- 17:26Speaker 3: I am terrible with names, and I've had Lauren on
- 17:29Speaker 3: the show a couple of times, and I remembered her
- 17:31Speaker 3: last name but not her.
- 17:32Speaker 8: First rate, which is actually really impressive.
- 17:34Speaker 13: And that's impressed.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't don't.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I guess it's all the sports I watched or something.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I remember last names.
- 17:39Speaker 8: But you guess I'd be working started if you didn't
- 17:41Speaker 8: remember my name.
- 17:42Speaker 14: Yeah, because I'm here pretty and you and I.
- 17:44Speaker 6: Go way way ten years, way back, ten ten to ten.
- 17:48Speaker 6: It's been ten years now.
- 17:49Speaker 13: So y'all met when you were like nine, Yeah, exactly.
- 17:53Speaker 8: Yeah, Dave was David was twenty nine.
- 17:55Speaker 9: I was nine.
- 17:56Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 17:57Speaker 3: We went through actually, uh, mister and I went through
- 18:00Speaker 3: leadership West Virginia together. Had a lot of fun. But probably,
- 18:04Speaker 3: and I'll say this if if listeners get an opportunity
- 18:08Speaker 3: to do leaderships, the single best thing I ever did
- 18:11Speaker 3: in my life. And I mean, it was amazing that
- 18:14Speaker 3: Pam Ferris, who just recently I guess retired, just does
- 18:17Speaker 3: a great job with that. And it was, without a doubt,
- 18:20Speaker 3: the best thing career wise and personally I ever did
- 18:23Speaker 3: in my life. Formative I would say, I mean, to
- 18:25Speaker 3: be able to go around this state and be able
- 18:27Speaker 3: to meet people.
- 18:29Speaker 6: I did not win. How many people in our class?
- 18:32Speaker 3: That was like fifty five people in our class. I
- 18:35Speaker 3: only knew one person going in. Now, others I knew
- 18:39Speaker 3: their names because Mayor Goodwin was in our class and
- 18:41Speaker 3: Jim Hoyer. I knew their names, but I didn't know them.
- 18:46Speaker 3: There's one guy that I went to high school with
- 18:48Speaker 3: that was in the class, and he and I didn't
- 18:50Speaker 3: know each other. No, it's a Lawrence Bell, and he
- 18:55Speaker 3: and I went to high school together and didn't know
- 18:57Speaker 3: each other. Proved, you know, disproving the theory that everybody
- 19:00Speaker 3: and Logan knows.
- 19:00Speaker 6: Everybody because he was a year or so.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Behind, right, I didn't know him in high school. We
- 19:04Speaker 3: met at Leadership West. That's so cool if you get
- 19:07Speaker 3: an opportunity to do that, all right. So I was
- 19:09Speaker 3: talking earlier to Zach Carroll about to festival which is
- 19:12Speaker 3: going on. And I say this almost every week in
- 19:14Speaker 3: the show, Guys, if you can't find something to do
- 19:16Speaker 3: with Charleston, it really the Canal Valley, right, that's on you.
- 19:21Speaker 6: That's gonna be going on. It kicks off the night,
- 19:22Speaker 6: runs to Sunday.
- 19:23Speaker 3: But we got a little party with a couple thousand
- 19:25Speaker 3: of our closest friends, so on the West side this weekend, talking.
- 19:28Speaker 8: About right in October West.
- 19:29Speaker 14: I'm actually Lauren is our event coordinator now, okay, so
- 19:32Speaker 14: I want to let her feel every one and on
- 19:34Speaker 14: all the details. I'll talk more about our organization and
- 19:36Speaker 14: why it's important to come, but I definitely want to
- 19:37Speaker 14: let Laren you're up.
- 19:38Speaker 13: Yeah, well so, thank you. So October West on Saturday,
- 19:44Speaker 13: one of, if not the largest and only october Fest
- 19:46Speaker 13: celebration in the state. We have over one hundred craft
- 19:50Speaker 13: beer selections that you can sample throughout the day, some
- 19:55Speaker 13: really good food vendors lined up, some great entertainment. We
- 19:58Speaker 13: have DJJ there all day. Who you know him, you
- 20:02Speaker 13: love him. If you don't know him, you will love him.
- 20:04Speaker 3: It's gonna say if you don't love him, that goes
- 20:07Speaker 3: in a different direction. You don't love him, there's something
- 20:08Speaker 3: wrong with you because.
- 20:09Speaker 13: He's Yeah, he's great. We've got Damn Near and hot
- 20:14Speaker 13: Jazz on the main stage. Those will both just be fantastic,
- 20:18Speaker 13: good energies for the stage. As you're talking with friends,
- 20:22Speaker 13: the weather is looking like a perfect fall day.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Here I said, more than what you would think of
- 20:27Speaker 3: with fall. But still it's not eighty five or nights
- 20:30Speaker 3: seventies high.
- 20:31Speaker 13: Yeah, no rain, knock on wood, It's gonna be great. Yeah.
- 20:34Speaker 13: So you can get a ticket, you get in, you
- 20:38Speaker 13: get a cup for your beer, and then you can
- 20:40Speaker 13: walk around sample as much as you want, as many
- 20:43Speaker 13: different types as you want. I've said a million times
- 20:45Speaker 13: at this point, we've got like twenty different pumpkin ales
- 20:48Speaker 13: and they all are different, but they all have a
- 20:51Speaker 13: good fall energy to them. We've got our October West
- 20:54Speaker 13: Games going on over there in front of the Charlie
- 20:58Speaker 13: Hamilton Jupiter the Mural there, and we've got Stein holding
- 21:08Speaker 13: keg rolling.
- 21:09Speaker 6: I mean, that's something.
- 21:10Speaker 13: It'll be a blast.
- 21:12Speaker 3: That's the thing I remember from last year when I
- 21:14Speaker 3: was there, one of the things that really stuck at
- 21:16Speaker 3: It's all great, but I remember going over and we
- 21:18Speaker 3: watched the keg rolling in the different competitions and stuff
- 21:21Speaker 3: like that.
- 21:22Speaker 6: It was awesome.
- 21:23Speaker 14: It's it's always surprising the number of people who end
- 21:25Speaker 14: up signing up for those.
- 21:26Speaker 8: I mean, it's it's a party in itself.
- 21:28Speaker 13: Oh yeah, it's an absolute, absolute hood of a time.
- 21:30Speaker 13: I mean, we've got people dressed up in costumes. It's
- 21:35Speaker 13: just an absolute blast.
- 21:36Speaker 6: Yeah, it is, it is. We had a texture.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Somebody asked about other beverages that they don't drink alcohol.
- 21:41Speaker 6: There's plenty of other stuff.
- 21:41Speaker 8: It there's some non alcoholic beers I believe that are
- 21:45Speaker 8: on the list.
- 21:46Speaker 6: Somebody should have.
- 21:47Speaker 14: Somebody will have water we'll have We'll have there's these
- 21:50Speaker 14: huge tubs of water that'll be throughout the entire just
- 21:52Speaker 14: like a foam.
- 21:53Speaker 6: We have like every so.
- 21:54Speaker 8: Many feet, we have a tub of water.
- 21:55Speaker 4: You can grab it up for food.
- 21:56Speaker 13: Yeah, and it's three And we also do if you're
- 21:59Speaker 13: either not a your drinker or a designated driver, have
- 22:02Speaker 13: a designated driver ticket where you can show up and
- 22:05Speaker 13: get in for free, and we'll give you a risk
- 22:06Speaker 13: band and you can still enjoy all of the festivities
- 22:09Speaker 13: even if you're not a big beer guy.
- 22:10Speaker 6: And the food, the food vendors.
- 22:12Speaker 13: Oh yeah, you can enjoy the food vendors. Yeah, we've
- 22:14Speaker 13: got quite a few good lined up, good ones lined up,
- 22:18Speaker 13: a good time.
- 22:19Speaker 14: Yeah, of course you're the ticket price, the fifty five
- 22:21Speaker 14: for VIP, forty five for general emission. Of course, you
- 22:24Speaker 14: get the extra hour for VIP starting at three o'clock.
- 22:26Speaker 14: General emission starts at four o'clock. You'll have a we
- 22:29Speaker 14: have a VIP beer tent, excuse me, a table for
- 22:32Speaker 14: circtly for the VIP ticket holders. But that ticket price
- 22:37Speaker 14: does not include the food vendors. Make sure you bring
- 22:39Speaker 14: your debit card or your cash because the food vendors
- 22:41Speaker 14: we have that they're taking payment separately.
- 22:44Speaker 6: So yeah, right, it's and it's just always a good time. Roughly.
- 22:48Speaker 6: I mean I said thousands of people, but I mean people.
- 22:50Speaker 6: You know, it's not.
- 22:51Speaker 3: A it's not like a one time everything. Some people
- 22:54Speaker 3: will come in, drift in for twenty minutes and leave,
- 22:56Speaker 3: some people stay the entire time. Roughly how many people
- 22:58Speaker 3: to Gentiliz you roughly?
- 23:00Speaker 14: Year to year? It has fluctuated. I think the hot
- 23:03Speaker 14: the the highest attendance we ever had. I don't remember
- 23:06Speaker 14: the year, but it was like twenty two hundred people,
- 23:09Speaker 14: and then the lowest we had was during a football game,
- 23:11Speaker 14: which is why we moved this event this year because
- 23:13Speaker 14: it was during a w football game and the lowest
- 23:15Speaker 14: I believe was like eleven hundred. So it just it
- 23:18Speaker 14: just depends on what's going on that.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Particularly's and that's incredible and when you think about, you know,
- 23:23Speaker 3: bringing in all those people, there's a reason why it's
- 23:26Speaker 3: it's on that part of town because the whole idea
- 23:28Speaker 3: is too and that's why it's in the name October
- 23:30Speaker 3: West to try to get people there to see all
- 23:32Speaker 3: the things that are going on over there. And Rick,
- 23:33Speaker 3: I'll let you talk about that.
- 23:35Speaker 6: A little bit.
- 23:36Speaker 14: Yeah, so I mean our organization, of course, Dave, I've
- 23:38Speaker 14: been on to talk about the evolution of our organization
- 23:41Speaker 14: over time several times. But Charleston Urban Works, our organization
- 23:45Speaker 14: formerly known as Charleston Main Streets, our mission excuse me,
- 23:49Speaker 14: our mission is is solely focused on the urban neighborhood
- 23:52Speaker 14: business districts here in the capital city, certain ones, and
- 23:56Speaker 14: you know, we're a unique organization in that way. The
- 23:58Speaker 14: services we offer in our object is within our mission
- 24:01Speaker 14: are very unique. We really focus on business improvement and
- 24:04Speaker 14: advancement in small business of course, public space enhancement projects,
- 24:09Speaker 14: events and marketing in business marketing, and then increasing engagement
- 24:13Speaker 14: across the entire community. And that really just means of
- 24:17Speaker 14: getting people more engaged, more involved with what we do,
- 24:19Speaker 14: and then you know, vice versa. We have been doing
- 24:23Speaker 14: this work collectively since two thousand and two. We started
- 24:25Speaker 14: out on the East End. A few years later we
- 24:28Speaker 14: started out on the West side. Years after that we
- 24:30Speaker 14: merged to create Charleston Main Streets. Actually, the year I
- 24:32Speaker 14: met you, we were talking about ten years ago, was
- 24:34Speaker 14: the year we did that. And then just over the
- 24:36Speaker 14: last year and a half we rebranded to Charleston Urban Works,
- 24:39Speaker 14: and we actually just expanded our work into Kanall City.
- 24:43Speaker 14: Through a really incredible partnership and support through the City
- 24:46Speaker 14: of Charleston, we were able to expand our work into
- 24:48Speaker 14: kanas City and we're building that foundation of the work
- 24:50Speaker 14: we've been doing for several years on the East End
- 24:52Speaker 14: and West side, we're now building that foundation in Kanall City.
- 24:54Speaker 3: What kind of plan I mean, I know it's still earlier,
- 24:56Speaker 3: you just building the foundation now and you talk about
- 24:58Speaker 3: the partnership with the city, but what kind of things
- 25:01Speaker 3: could you see in KANNAUSO. Well, I mean it's it
- 25:03Speaker 3: would be similar, I guess to the East and West,
- 25:06Speaker 3: but they're geographically they're they're different.
- 25:09Speaker 8: Very different.
- 25:09Speaker 14: Yeah, And the approach we've always taken, we're taking the
- 25:12Speaker 14: same approach over there that we have in our other
- 25:14Speaker 14: districts over time, right what we're doing. As a matter
- 25:16Speaker 14: of fact, we just had our first working group meeting
- 25:18Speaker 14: over there, comprised of all small business owners in Kanall City.
- 25:22Speaker 14: The entire groups comprised of business owners and we've been
- 25:26Speaker 14: Shannon who's on our staff, she's our director over there.
- 25:29Speaker 14: She's been working really hard to develop an enormous database
- 25:32Speaker 14: with every single property and business and property owner and
- 25:35Speaker 14: business owner over there collecting data. You know, this is
- 25:39Speaker 14: the first time it's been this has been attempted over there,
- 25:41Speaker 14: so there's a lot of data you got to collect
- 25:42Speaker 14: before you could actually know what work needs to be done.
- 25:45Speaker 14: And now we've started survey work over there like we've
- 25:47Speaker 14: done on the West Side here recently, we're surveying the
- 25:49Speaker 14: business owners to figure out what their needs are. So
- 25:52Speaker 14: that's all in process. That's going to take some time.
- 25:54Speaker 14: We've come a long way in the last almost six
- 25:56Speaker 14: months and we know by the middle of November we'll
- 25:59Speaker 14: be to release some project plans solely based on the
- 26:02Speaker 14: needs of the end user of the business owners themselves,
- 26:05Speaker 14: and so you'll see some really cool marketing initiatives coming
- 26:07Speaker 14: out of that. You'll see some ideas for events. You'll
- 26:10Speaker 14: see ideas for shop you know, to expand our shop
- 26:13Speaker 14: local initiative, our our Passport card over there, stuff like that.
- 26:16Speaker 14: Our FA Sage grant program. That's another really big point
- 26:19Speaker 14: to make. Our Facade grant program is in part funded
- 26:23Speaker 14: through events like this that we put on. We are
- 26:25Speaker 14: able to provide funding really important funding. Too small business
- 26:28Speaker 14: owners to help you know, new doors, new windows, brick pointing,
- 26:32Speaker 14: new signage, public art on their building, you know, outdoor
- 26:36Speaker 14: dining spaces, that kind of thing. We match funds. That's
- 26:39Speaker 14: that private business owners put into their invest into their
- 26:42Speaker 14: properties through through that Facade grant program. So that gives
- 26:45Speaker 14: you an idea of the work that we do and
- 26:46Speaker 14: why this work is so important and why coming to
- 26:48Speaker 14: events like October West helps support and fund that.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Yeah, we want to make sure that want people to
- 26:52Speaker 3: come out and have a good time, whether it's here,
- 26:54Speaker 3: we do foam in a dome earlier in the year too,
- 26:56Speaker 3: But we want to know there's a reason for our
- 26:58Speaker 3: rest and that's and that's and that's what that I mean,
- 26:59Speaker 3: it's so you know, come out and have some drinks
- 27:02Speaker 3: or not, or have some food and play the games whatever.
- 27:04Speaker 3: But there's a reason why that you're doing all this
- 27:06Speaker 3: and just to put the money back into Charleston.
- 27:08Speaker 13: Yeah, And I mean when you're down there in the
- 27:10Speaker 13: Elk City district over there on the west side, you
- 27:12Speaker 13: can stand in a circle in the middle Washington Street
- 27:14Speaker 13: and see a bunch of businesses that we've had a
- 27:16Speaker 13: hand in helping promote or create the spaces that they have,
- 27:23Speaker 13: and so that's something that I want to plug is
- 27:24Speaker 13: a lot of the Elk City businesses are open Saturday
- 27:27Speaker 13: before October West and so if you want to pop
- 27:31Speaker 13: into Kinship Goods, you want to get a hot dog
- 27:33Speaker 13: from Dancing Dog, you need to get your hair cut,
- 27:35Speaker 13: you want to go over to the Wine Down, they're
- 27:37Speaker 13: all open leading up to the event, and then some
- 27:39Speaker 13: of them will be also open during the event. So
- 27:41Speaker 13: we really that's the whole point of having it over
- 27:44Speaker 13: there is we want people to be able to wander
- 27:46Speaker 13: in and out of the spaces and see them and
- 27:49Speaker 13: see the work that we've done to create the public
- 27:54Speaker 13: the public space that is for the people of Charleston,
- 27:57Speaker 13: literally by the people of Charleston, because they're giving us
- 28:00Speaker 13: that money through these ticket sales. So it's it's really
- 28:03Speaker 13: cool to just be able to stand there and look
- 28:05Speaker 13: around and see all the people that are helping make
- 28:07Speaker 13: all these things happen.
- 28:09Speaker 3: And of course all of our stations are going to
- 28:10Speaker 3: be there as well. We're looking forward to it. I'll
- 28:12Speaker 3: be there with ninety eight seven Mountain On. I think
- 28:16Speaker 3: I'm going to roll in there about about three or
- 28:18Speaker 3: four I'm scheduled to be there at five, but I
- 28:20Speaker 3: don't want to miss a good time. I may be
- 28:22Speaker 3: there just a little bit earlier. Good but you know
- 28:24Speaker 3: V one hundred, I know Steve is going to be there,
- 28:27Speaker 3: kws the beat. We're all going to be down there,
- 28:29Speaker 3: so we're looking forward to it, right. We love the
- 28:31Speaker 3: partnership we have with you guys too.
- 28:33Speaker 8: We can't tell you how much we appreciate it.
- 28:34Speaker 4: I'll say that, all right.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Give us the information available on social media, websites and ticketing.
- 28:40Speaker 14: Charlestondurbanworks dot Org is where you can go to buy
- 28:42Speaker 14: your tickets. You can also go straight to the October
- 28:44Speaker 14: West Facebook page and the event page as well. All
- 28:48Speaker 14: the information about everything happening in real time is or
- 28:50Speaker 14: on those pages.
- 28:51Speaker 6: All right, we'll see you guys there.
- 28:52Speaker 3: And we had a texture said one business I'd love
- 28:54Speaker 3: to see come back forty years later, Chris is hot Dogs.
- 28:56Speaker 14: Well, so what I remember the day when Chris is
- 29:00Speaker 14: The days when Chris hod Dog was there.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Coop's to be busy, right, I was gas. Do you
- 29:03Speaker 3: remember Christmas hot Dogs on the West Side?
- 29:06Speaker 14: It was Gonzoe Burger after it was Christmas hod Dogs
- 29:09Speaker 14: that's actually a great example of a project that we
- 29:11Speaker 14: were extremely involved quickly. You may remember back in this
- 29:15Speaker 14: has been several years ago, but the owners of me
- 29:17Speaker 14: Cassina Damore, which unfortunately is now closed as well, they're
- 29:20Speaker 14: the ones who wanted that building to put this Burger
- 29:22Speaker 14: join in. And I was able in my role with
- 29:26Speaker 14: Charleston Main Streets at the time, now Urban Works was
- 29:28Speaker 14: able to directly connect the property owner at the time
- 29:31Speaker 14: who still owned who's the family of Christmas hot Dogs,
- 29:35Speaker 14: with an investor who was interested in buying the building.
- 29:37Speaker 14: The now owner of that building. They they were able
- 29:40Speaker 14: to work it out. They were able to buy it.
- 29:41Speaker 14: They used historic tax credits to restore that building. If
- 29:44Speaker 14: you look, I mean it has a completely different look now,
- 29:46Speaker 14: but they used all historic standards to renovate and restore
- 29:50Speaker 14: that building both floors, first and second floor. And of
- 29:53Speaker 14: course we were able to directly connect the business owner
- 29:56Speaker 14: to come in and open up Gonzo Berger And of
- 29:58Speaker 14: course they did a lot of work to the inside

- 34:17Speaker 3: today from noon till three. Let's bring in our good
- 34:21Speaker 3: friend now, Chris Miller. How are you doing, mister Miller?
- 34:24Speaker 5: I'm good man. How about yourself?
- 34:26Speaker 3: I am doing well. Thanks, thanks for joining us today
- 34:29Speaker 3: because you're always interesting conversation. I want to have you
- 34:31Speaker 3: on my friend. But today we're going to talk about
- 34:33Speaker 3: something that's near and dear to my heart and your
- 34:35Speaker 3: heart as well, and that is animals. There's going to
- 34:37Speaker 3: be an event happening over Dutch Miller's Subaru on October
- 34:41Speaker 3: the eighteenth, from eleven to four, and that of course
- 34:43Speaker 3: is nineteen oh one Patrick Street Plaza. I love the
- 34:46Speaker 3: name Chris hol Oween and you guys have how that's howl.
- 34:51Speaker 6: You guys to kind of put your.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Name on this. I know you and know your family,
- 34:55Speaker 3: and I know the superroof folks talking about the Subaru Corporation.
- 34:59Speaker 3: They're really really big on helping out animals.
- 35:03Speaker 5: Huge and so we partner with the Canall Charleston Humane
- 35:08Speaker 5: Society and we basically did this huge pet adoption event
- 35:12Speaker 5: every single year. So funny story. Last year, I took
- 35:16Speaker 5: my daughter to this event and I promised my wife, Oh,
- 35:19Speaker 5: we're not adopting any animals because we have these two big,
- 35:22Speaker 5: huge Great Danes and they, you know, they're like they're
- 35:25Speaker 5: like children basically in our house. We've got three kids
- 35:28Speaker 5: and two Great Danes. So anyway, my daughter and I
- 35:31Speaker 5: go to the pet adoption event and she has the
- 35:34Speaker 5: uncanny ability to talk me into adopting two kittens. So
- 35:39Speaker 5: we get back home after telling my wife we're not
- 35:41Speaker 5: adopting anything, I promised show up with two cats in
- 35:43Speaker 5: a box.
- 35:45Speaker 6: Well did it work out? Go ahead's cowing over?
- 35:48Speaker 5: Okay, you know everybody loves the cats.
- 35:52Speaker 3: Now okay, well, how did it go over with the
- 35:53Speaker 3: relationship with the Great Danes and the cats?
- 35:55Speaker 6: Sou's a how is that dynamic?
- 35:57Speaker 5: Oh? Now that's funny because we have one male Great
- 36:01Speaker 5: Dan and one female Great Dane. The female great dane's
- 36:03Speaker 5: kind of old and she like the cats don't mess
- 36:05Speaker 5: with her at all. They smell and she's like the
- 36:08Speaker 5: real deal. The male is kind of a woosie, and
- 36:12Speaker 5: those cats honed in on that really quickly. And so
- 36:16Speaker 5: we have had to basically referee some fights between two
- 36:21Speaker 5: cats and a Great Dane. That is always very wild
- 36:26Speaker 5: to see. Now it's stopped now because we're a year
- 36:28Speaker 5: down the road, But when it first happened, they were
- 36:31Speaker 5: posturing for pecking order.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Well, and the thing about it is, well, here's what
- 36:35Speaker 3: I know. I've got cats. I don't have dogs, but
- 36:37Speaker 3: I got cats, and I know cats control the house.
- 36:39Speaker 3: And I'll guarantee you if there's a pecking order, those
- 36:42Speaker 3: cats will probably have already taken over that great dane spot.
- 36:45Speaker 5: They did, Yeah, those they did really quickly. Now now
- 36:48Speaker 5: the older great Dane, they don't mess with her at all.
- 36:52Speaker 5: It's just funny because she's the.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Alpha, right yeah, well because she's really the one in charge.
- 36:56Speaker 3: But but you're right about that. But yeah, and great Danes,
- 36:59Speaker 3: from what I know about them, tend to be kind
- 37:01Speaker 3: of big, old pussy cats anyway, no pun intended, So
- 37:04Speaker 3: they're a mental giants are kind of gentle giants. So
- 37:07Speaker 3: that event again, well I'll recap that a little bit
- 37:09Speaker 3: later on, but it's happening on October the eighteenth, eleven
- 37:11Speaker 3: to four at Dutch millerch suber U nineteen oh one
- 37:14Speaker 3: Patrick Strick Plaza in Charleston. And let me just say,
- 37:16Speaker 3: I think it's great that what your family does for
- 37:21Speaker 3: animals and your employees, but also Subaru as a corporation. Again,
- 37:25Speaker 3: I have every Friday, Chris on the show, I have
- 37:27Speaker 3: Angie Gillenwater from the Gonaal charlest and Humane Association on
- 37:30Speaker 3: every Friday with our dop me please Pet of the Week.
- 37:32Speaker 3: And every week she's throwing out the name Subaru. She's saying, so,
- 37:36Speaker 3: you know, thank you so much to Subaru for this,
- 37:38Speaker 3: you know, uh clear the shelter event or whatever it
- 37:41Speaker 3: is that they're calling it.
- 37:42Speaker 6: I mean, suber is really invested in this.
- 37:45Speaker 5: Yes they are, and they're the real deal man. Of
- 37:47Speaker 5: all the manufacturers that we do business with, Suberu literally
- 37:50Speaker 5: practices what they preach and they really believe in giving
- 37:54Speaker 5: back to the community. And everybody loves pets and wants
- 37:57Speaker 5: to help out as best as possible. So you know,
- 37:59Speaker 5: why is it being this big, huge win win. Last
- 38:02Speaker 5: year we adopted seventy two animals, which was a record
- 38:05Speaker 5: for us at the super restore in Charleston.
- 38:08Speaker 20: Wow.
- 38:09Speaker 5: And so there were literally seventy two animals that were
- 38:11Speaker 5: rescued and given to Great Homes last year and we
- 38:15Speaker 5: got to beat that record. So everybody out there listening
- 38:18Speaker 5: right now, we need your help. We're gonna have all
- 38:20Speaker 5: kinds of awesome animals. Cats, dogs, puppies, kittens, you name it.
- 38:26Speaker 5: I don't think there's any cockatails or birds in this
- 38:28Speaker 5: adoption event this year, but.
- 38:31Speaker 6: You never know had you had them in the past.
- 38:34Speaker 6: The cocka tilS we had, No, we have not.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you because what I've learned and talking
- 38:39Speaker 3: to Angie every Friday, is they always got something that's
- 38:43Speaker 3: off the beaten path up there a little bit. I
- 38:45Speaker 3: mean they've had, you know, a couple of snakes and
- 38:47Speaker 3: they've had a couple of pigs, and you know, it's
- 38:49Speaker 3: like it's.
- 38:49Speaker 6: Like ei eio up there.
- 38:51Speaker 5: Man. It's kind of like, you know, life in our
- 38:54Speaker 5: household every single day. Oh gosh, exactly. Also, Dave and Davis,
- 39:00Speaker 5: who actually used to work with us at the super
- 39:03Speaker 5: dealership and now is in Nashville performing and making a living.
- 39:07Speaker 5: She's an up and coming artist. She's coming back up
- 39:10Speaker 5: to give a concert. So the entire time from eleven
- 39:13Speaker 5: to four on Saturday eighteenth, We're also going to have
- 39:16Speaker 5: a performance from Emmy Davis and it's just going to
- 39:19Speaker 5: be a blast of the time.
- 39:20Speaker 3: All right, sounds good and we'll remind the folks about
- 39:23Speaker 3: it twenty before we get there. That event again is
- 39:26Speaker 3: happening on October the eighteenth, eleven to four. Dutch Miller,
- 39:28Speaker 3: super Rude nineteen oh one, Patrick Street Plaza and Charleston Today.

- 39:50Speaker 3: All right, I would be remiss, mister Miller if I didn't.
- 39:52Speaker 3: If I had you on the show, and I didn't
- 39:54Speaker 3: pick that brain of yours to find out what's on
- 39:56Speaker 3: that brain of yours. What's on your mind these days?
- 39:59Speaker 3: Politic cool, news wise, what's what's got your mind?
- 40:03Speaker 6: Work in these days?
- 40:04Speaker 5: My friend, I've been rolled up in work and having
- 40:08Speaker 5: an absolute blast. We're in the middle of one of
- 40:11Speaker 5: the largest acquisitions we've ever done, which is really really exciting,
- 40:15Speaker 5: and hopefully we'll have a big, huge formal announcement and
- 40:19Speaker 5: a transition that will happen sometime the end of November
- 40:21Speaker 5: beginning of December. And that soaked up a bunch of
- 40:24Speaker 5: my time. And when I've got something like that going on,
- 40:26Speaker 5: I'm early laser focused. I kind of don't listen to
- 40:28Speaker 5: a lot of the noise out there. But I will
- 40:31Speaker 5: tell you that West Virginia is in an interesting place
- 40:36Speaker 5: because where we were two years ago versus where we
- 40:39Speaker 5: are now is basically the same thing. And West Virginia
- 40:44Speaker 5: has a major financial catastrophe coming. We have to add
- 40:48Speaker 5: two hundred thousand people to our state over the next
- 40:50Speaker 5: eight to ten years. Or because of the way that
- 40:54Speaker 5: the Affordable Care Act put pressure in rural states from
- 40:57Speaker 5: Medicare and Medicaid expansion, and our aging population and a
- 41:01Speaker 5: declining population. More and more of our state's budget is
- 41:04Speaker 5: going to be soaked up by the DHHR and required
- 41:07Speaker 5: for reinbursement for medicare to the point where we don't
- 41:11Speaker 5: have enough money to operate our general revenue budget. And
- 41:17Speaker 5: that's going to affect the bond ratings and put us
- 41:19Speaker 5: in a tail spin, and it's going to be really,
- 41:21Speaker 5: really ugly. And so the thing that I would encourage
- 41:25Speaker 5: all of the legislators out there listening and as well
- 41:28Speaker 5: as anybody in the executive branch, we need to have
- 41:31Speaker 5: a wholehearted focus on economic growth and development, focusing on
- 41:34Speaker 5: adding population to our state, because if we do not
- 41:37Speaker 5: do that, it is going to be a bad, bad day.
- 41:40Speaker 5: And what happens is is that it's the rural counties,
- 41:44Speaker 5: in the rural areas that get hit with the funding
- 41:46Speaker 5: reductions first. And we all know already that they're struggling.
- 41:50Speaker 3: To begin with, right, I mean, you think about areas Chris,
- 41:53Speaker 3: like a McDowell County or a Boone count I'm just
- 41:56Speaker 3: using them as an example, and they're several in the
- 41:58Speaker 3: northern part of the state as well. More rural areas
- 42:00Speaker 3: that are really starting to suffer. And we're seeing tremendous
- 42:04Speaker 3: growth where I live in Putnam County right now, the
- 42:06Speaker 3: Eastern Panhandle Sea.
- 42:07Speaker 6: But we got to figure.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Out a way to be able to distribute this because
- 42:12Speaker 3: these counties can't carry the load for everybody.
- 42:16Speaker 6: And I don't know how you go about that. What
- 42:18Speaker 6: would your plan be? I mean, you know you're smart, guy,
- 42:23Speaker 6: So what's your plan.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Whenever I'm looking at something, I swat it right. Strengths
- 42:28Speaker 5: weakens his opportunity threats. We have an incredible amount of strengths.
- 42:33Speaker 5: We have the ability to produce massive amounts of energy.
- 42:37Speaker 5: We have more water than any other state in the country.
- 42:39Speaker 5: We got more miles of river than anybody else, and
- 42:41Speaker 5: we own the Ohio River to the high water mark
- 42:44Speaker 5: of Ohio. And if you think about where we are
- 42:47Speaker 5: right now, everything is going to be about artificial intelligence.
- 42:51Speaker 5: And we are not a part of the coating. We
- 42:53Speaker 5: are not a part of the stock ownership. We are
- 42:56Speaker 5: not a part of the creation of the entity that
- 42:58Speaker 5: is going to transcend and create the largest wealth separation
- 43:02Speaker 5: that we have ever seen. But what we have is
- 43:05Speaker 5: what they need because it takes massive amounts of water
- 43:09Speaker 5: to manufacture the Cubit and the other artificial intelligence computation ships.
- 43:15Speaker 5: It takes massive amounts of water to cool the servers
- 43:18Speaker 5: required to handle all this computation power, and it takes
- 43:21Speaker 5: massive amounts of power to generate the computation needed for
- 43:26Speaker 5: all of the artificial intelligence. And so what I believe
- 43:30Speaker 5: West Virginia's opportunity is is two things. One, we should
- 43:35Speaker 5: leverage all of our resources to dramatically reduce the cost
- 43:39Speaker 5: of power, and I'm talking about seventy to eighty percent reduction,
- 43:43Speaker 5: and you use that as the foundation of all of
- 43:45Speaker 5: our economic growth and development, because power is going to
- 43:48Speaker 5: be looked at as a fixed cost in the future,
- 43:51Speaker 5: and businesses are going to need it and it is
- 43:53Speaker 5: going to continue to raise in cost. And so our
- 43:57Speaker 5: one differentiator in the emerging twenty first century economy to
- 44:00Speaker 5: drive our population over our economy can be leverage all
- 44:03Speaker 5: of our resources to be the cheapest state in the
- 44:06Speaker 5: country when it comes to power, and they will come
- 44:09Speaker 5: to us. Also. You think about Jim and Susie Adkins,
- 44:13Speaker 5: and they're both on Social Security and they're seventy years old.
- 44:17Speaker 5: You cut their power bill by seventy percent, You've done
- 44:20Speaker 5: something incredibly impactful for them as well. And that's what
- 44:24Speaker 5: I consider to be good government right there. Also, they've
- 44:28Speaker 5: just to add insult injury. If we don't do this,
- 44:33Speaker 5: it gets really bad. And the opportunities there, and we
- 44:36Speaker 5: can turn West Virginia into the battery of the East
- 44:39Speaker 5: Coast and dramatically export our power, dramatically increase our power
- 44:44Speaker 5: production and become the battery for the East Coast and
- 44:48Speaker 5: take our place in the emerging twenty first century economy.
- 44:52Speaker 5: That's the play. That's what we have to do. All
- 44:54Speaker 5: the other stuff out there that we're hearing talking Lise
- 44:56Speaker 5: is just nothing more than words and dialogue. It is
- 44:58Speaker 5: not a plan, and it is not executable. This is executable.
- 45:02Speaker 5: That's why we need more business people in Holts in
- 45:04Speaker 5: government right now?
- 45:06Speaker 3: All right, So we I want to get about a
- 45:08Speaker 3: minute left here. We need more business people involved in government.
- 45:12Speaker 3: You're a business person, yes, sir, just saying.
- 45:15Speaker 5: I'm not going anywhere. The next opportunity that presents itself,
- 45:18Speaker 5: I'm in. I'm gonna do everything I can to help
- 45:19Speaker 5: the say to West Virginia.
- 45:21Speaker 3: All right, So you're not saying that your career is
- 45:23Speaker 3: done because you ran for governor you're I'm not asking
- 45:25Speaker 3: you for a commitment to anything, but you're gonna be
- 45:28Speaker 3: around a while.
- 45:28Speaker 6: That's what you're saying.
- 45:29Speaker 5: I'm going to be around a while, Yes, sir, all right,
- 45:31Speaker 5: Chris Miller.
- 45:32Speaker 6: It's always a pleasure. I appreciate you being here. We'll
- 45:34Speaker 6: talk soon, buddy, Thanks.
- 45:34Speaker 5: A lot, day man, thanks for having us.
- 45:37Speaker 6: All right again.
- 45:38Speaker 3: The event is called hal Oween howl o weeen October

- 51:29Speaker 3: at all is too far that we almost rise up
- 51:32Speaker 3: and stop the hostile takeover by foreign bought businessmen and
- 51:36Speaker 3: amoral perverts running the country. Text says deep state swine
