- 0:17Turn the Glory podcast, Jarberniki Austin Rose, Dakota Free Tag. Guys.
- 0:24I want you to picture this three point thirty left in the game on Saturday,
- 0:30Uskers go up thirteen to ten after a Tristan Albano field goal. Our
- 0:36defense comes out against Tulia Tega Bailoa, and the crowd is just going nuts.
- 0:42All right? Got that picture? Yes? I think? I think
- 0:53you do. Your Your defense is playing great the whole game. Just put
- 0:57them back on the field with any lead. You win that game. I
- 1:02probably agreed, probably agree, or do agree. M I do agree,
- 1:15guys. This game is on Matt rule. It's his fault coaching staff.
- 1:22They lost us a game, and I was very disappointed in the postgame press
- 1:30conference too, and and in some of the comments that were made it this
- 1:34is the first game. I mean, Minnesota was very disappointing too, but
- 1:38this game is very different because of when it happened at this point in the
- 1:42season, and what it shows me is a lack of awareness of our players
- 1:51and what we have in the situation that we are at here Nebraska. And
- 1:55I say that because I thought that we had a good grasp on that.
- 2:00When I say we the coaching staff had a good grasp on that and very
- 2:06disappointing there in that game how it ended. It just goes against everything that
- 2:15we thought. I will say just about the running the ball, that being
- 2:19smart. Obviously, the turnovers, we'll get to that like that, we'll
- 2:23get to that. But that single handed drive or player decision that just cannot
- 2:28happen at that point in the game given the situation. I mean that tons
- 2:34of things that just I mean everybody. I think every Husker fan would have
- 2:38been very statisfied and would have called a run play, kick the field goal
- 2:42and go up. Like hell, there were fans around me saying the field
- 2:46goal on first down, like that's all we wanted in that situation. And
- 2:53I don't know. Did we get greedy, That's what I think. I
- 2:54don't know we got greedy. We thought, again, we thought we had
- 2:59players that we don't have to make the decision and rules reasoning in the post
- 3:02postgame press conference was I thought it'd either be an incomplete pass that led to
- 3:07a field goal attempt. Okay, Like yeah, I mean I hope we
- 3:13all hope that. I guess, I don't know. I'm just confused.
- 3:17I guess on where the decision making wise. I mean, if you're a
- 3:22head coach, you should be just screaming if the offensive coordinator calls that no,
- 3:27no, no, and there's no kill shot. I mean, this
- 3:29is this is second to the on side kick right there. Don't we don't
- 3:31need a kill shot. I saw someone trying to argue Maryland. Oh,
- 3:36they just showed they can go down and score in two plays. No,
- 3:38no, maybe they did one for sailing scored ten points through fifty eight minutes
- 3:46of the game. And what is our defense? I mean, what has
- 3:49there been our strength of our team the entire season and continued this game against
- 3:54one of the most high powered offenses we've seen this year. That if a
- 4:00nominal job, and yet that's what happens, that's the result. That's where
- 4:03my head was at. I guys, I'm disappointed, and I'm we talk
- 4:08about red flag as the coaching staff. This is the number one biggest one
- 4:12so far was this game because of the importance of the game and the moment
- 4:15on the line, the lack of awareness that we had for the situation at
- 4:20hand, and understanding what Nebraska football is. It's all Husker fans. We
- 4:26just want to win. There's no winning pretty that that. If you let
- 4:30Husker fans get in your head because of that, if you let that happen,
- 4:32then you're not a good coach. Find a way to win the game,
- 4:36however you need to win it, and doing making that play call in
- 4:40that situation with our third string quarterback in who's thrown two passes his entire career
- 4:46as a Husker is not smart at all at all. Your defense played the
- 4:54ass obviously, but was the whole stadium? Was the whole stamueling? No,
- 4:57no, no, any went back to pass? Yeah, I mean
- 5:00yeah, I was like it was just it would just run it and kick
- 5:05a field goal if we happened to break one. Great, Like, yeah,
- 5:09I would say the couple of plays and leading up to that that drive
- 5:14was phenomenal and very impressive. What Chubba did. I think that was a
- 5:18couple of plays that he scrambled on and was great. The other comment on
- 5:21that last series there, and I know, we don't want to blame play
- 5:27call and blame whatever or blame it on one drive, because yeah, it's
- 5:30an entire game that decides the outcome. But this one drive we get down
- 5:32their first and goal from the five. This is the other strange thing.
- 5:38Rule claims that first down when when Chubba pulled it and ran to the right
- 5:43and threw it away, which I thought could have potentially been in either an
- 5:46intentional grounding or since he got a pass line of scrimmage in an eligible receiver
- 5:50downfield that was supposed to be a run play and Chubba said, I'm going
- 5:55to pull it and take it for myself. And again that that's that's crazy
- 6:00to me as a football player, that I mean, what what is that?
- 6:04I don't say lack of respect, but you're just going to defy exactly
- 6:08what you're told to do because you think you can make a play. Like
- 6:12I'm not blaming Chubba, but that just tells you maybe a little bit about
- 6:15the program, right and and the state of the locker room. And yeah,
- 6:19we think everything's really really good. But that makes very little sense to
- 6:24me either. And then obviously second and third down went the way it did
- 6:29that whole sequence. And then yeah, once that happens, guys, you
- 6:30knew, you, you freaking knew the whole stadium knew Maryland was gonna come
- 6:33down. The defense had bailed the offense out how many times that game by
- 6:39getting their own turnovers and getting their own stops. And yeah, I guess
- 6:43the defense failed there too on the last drive. But it's very frustrating of
- 6:50what we had there with the stakes in the line, and that's what happened,
- 6:55and that that's totally on the coaching staff, and I don't think there's
- 6:57really many people against that. I think at this point, if you're if
- 7:05you guys ran wildcat the whole year, had no quarterback play, what do
- 7:10you think your record? Because your quarterbacks are killing you. That's your only
- 7:13that's the only thing that's like losing games. I mean we basically have we
- 7:17we've thrown the fewest passes outside of like Army and Navy, Like that's basically
- 7:23it, like we aren't throwing the ball. Yeah, and when we do,
- 7:29I I mean, I saw there's tons of stats and numbers floating around
- 7:32obviously. Jeff Simms, out of his twenty six drives he's had on offense,
- 7:36twelve of them have resulted in a turnover almost half. I mean,
- 7:44yeah, that that was not surprising at all. Chubba comes in and his
- 7:49last drive it no looks solid ends the turnover though, Heiner Carbard. Guys
- 7:54have been trending downward now for three four games. But so the quarterback situation,
- 8:01I for the fans and the people that listened that didn't really know,
- 8:07guys, all of our quarterbacks are not good. Like the hope coming into
- 8:11the year, right was that Jeff Simms maybe was out of a ten,
- 8:15maybe he was a six or seven and was solid. Dak warned us that
- 8:18he wasn't and he's a turnover machine. We all said, Dak, we'll
- 8:22see, we'll see. Nope, Dak was right. And so we're stuck
- 8:26with three quarterbacks that are all like between there are two out of ten,
- 8:30three out of ten. They're not good quarterbacks. It's impressive to have three
- 8:35quarterbacks that if you were to put me in a pitch black room and I
- 8:41watched a game, they had no numbers and they were just wearing morph suits,
- 8:45I wouldn't be able to tell you which one is which, Like they're
- 8:46literally three of the exact same quarterback. Yes, yes, and we can
- 8:54sig here to debate one strength over the others. And and I think we
- 8:58had a point there, or we were fighting for Jeff Sims early on in
- 9:01the leaders. Then we had a point that we're like, nope, the
- 9:03harbor. We got to fight for him because he's getting Like last week,
- 9:05we were trying to defend him. You know. There. You could do
- 9:09all of that, and that's great. But bottom line is, I think
- 9:11what this game showed to everyone is that we have three quarterbacks that are that
- 9:15are very much the same. They are very poor decision makers or lack of
- 9:20experience, and that's what we have. And you know what, we might
- 9:26not have been the only ones that realized it. Maybe the coaching staff also
- 9:28said hmm, and they probably knew that all along, I think, But
- 9:33it's one of those deals that I don't know what you need go from here,
- 9:37and it does. It makes the worst part about this all It goes
- 9:41way back to the first red flag of Matt Ruhle is his confidence in Jeff
- 9:45Sims when he recruited him and reading what kind of player he was when we
- 9:48had the code of free tag on here hosting a podcast for his first year
- 9:52called that out from the get go is turnover and it's mental psyche of the
- 10:00game is just not good, and that was what we chose over. Now
- 10:05we don't know the whole story over Casey Thompson, and with jac Thompson here
- 10:09at quarterback, that was the kind of guy I think we needed. Yeah,
- 10:13Case is a great password, He's not as much for a runner.
- 10:16But shit, guys, we don't run our quarterbacks anymore anyways. We don't
- 10:18do it. We have a couple of designed QB draws. We try to
- 10:22run some speed options, but those I think are now scouted out by opposing
- 10:26teams. Of the element of surprise there has gone away. It's really goes
- 10:33back down to that initial decision of we put all of our cards on the
- 10:37table on Jeff Simms. We knew Heinrich was Heinrich, we knew Chubbo was
- 10:41Chubba. And here's where we're at from a quarterback situation. But yet all
- 10:46that whatever, here's what we still freaking do though. We still play them
- 10:50like they're a six or seven out of ten, like that's how we design
- 10:54our offense. We still design it and have them throw the ball like they're
- 10:58better than they are and they're not. Man how you really feel, I'll
- 11:09tell you what the biggest travesty in all sports is the Marcus Souderfield makes more
- 11:11money than Tony White. That is bad. That's a scam job right there.
- 11:16Like no other Marcus Centerfield is like a top six paid offensive coordinator.
- 11:22Yeah, I don't want it again. It's you don't want to get too
- 11:26hard on Centerfield because he doesn't have a quarterback on him. I mean that's
- 11:33I mean, that's I totally agree. I totally agree. But you know,
- 11:39you look at just injury wise our quarter we don't have good quarterbacks,
- 11:43but we don't have any pieces around your quarterbacks to help. It's gonna make
- 11:46it look even uglier and probably limits what he wants to do. That's the
- 11:52defensive Saderfield. I'm not gonna say he should be one of the top ten
- 11:54highest paid offensive coordinators. I think that's crazy. But oh, that's it's
- 12:01a fake account. I just I just got a breaking news that Marcus Sadderfield
- 12:07has been fired. No that's not no, Yeah, it's a couple of
- 12:11it. Sean Callahan fake account and the ball Sacks Sturge fake account, their
- 12:16fake accounts. But I saw that, I got it started laughing. You
- 12:20wish, dude, I yeah, So Sadurfield and and this is this is
- 12:26the quote of the year so far from Dirk Chatlin. I don't know if
- 12:31you guys saw it, and it is spot on. It sums up everything
- 12:35that has gone on with the season so far. It was after the game
- 12:41last night he said, the difference between eight and two Iowa five and five
- 12:45Nebraska is that Iowa accepts that its offense stinks and manages the game accordingly.
- 12:50And to me, it's spot off with what we've seen from the offensive side
- 12:56of the ball right like hell, Iowa's accepts it the point they've even fired
- 13:01their offensive coordinator and they're eight and two and they know that, so they
- 13:05know how to play the game and manage it in a way that allows them
- 13:09to win the game the way they need to win it ugly. And I
- 13:13know we all laugh and think how bad eyele football. Those guys are eight
- 13:16and two. They do it every year. Every year, they do this.
- 13:20Every year they win games like this and maybe we can get them in
- 13:22the last game of the year. We need to. We're gonna need to.
- 13:26But why is it, Why is it so complicated to just find a
- 13:31way to it. And yeah, think going into the offseason, you can
- 13:33get a better quarterback, you can get the better players. But bottom line
- 13:37is we don't have the players right now that are confident or we have enough
- 13:41trust in to run whatever our picture perfect style of offenses from sadderfield rule,
- 13:48whatever that is on a whiteboard. We don't have those players to execute that.
- 13:52And we still seem like we run plays like we do and it's not
- 13:58working. We still we turn the ball or five times, Like I would
- 14:01literally be okay with every game running it three times and punting the ball and
- 14:05seeing what happens, because I think we would break away a couple of runs,
- 14:07but most importantly, we wouldn't turn it over. Maybe if we don't
- 14:11fumble, we still stumble. We still fumble the ball quite a bit.
- 14:16I would turn the corner. They had four Hunerd yards yesterday, that's true.
- 14:20I would did. I don't I agree with you Hunter. We I
- 14:26was watching with my brother and dad and on the peacock, which whatever I
- 14:31paid for it, Okay, congrats peacock, you did it. You got
- 14:35me six dollars. Enjoy it while you can. But we were literally saying
- 14:39the exact same things, like just it's okay, just acknowledge that you're bad,
- 14:46and just three and out punt, three and out punt, and every
- 14:48once in a while, your defense will turn the ball over and you'll be
- 14:52able to get a field goal, and you hope you win that way.
- 14:54Just milk the clock. Yeah, my goddamn for the love of God,
- 15:05here's here's what I think rule and staff. I think this is what they're
- 15:09fighting, because, yes, in a world that we just want to win
- 15:15games, all we've talked about in the decision on third and five is very
- 15:18easy. Running the field will go ahead. I think in the back of
- 15:20their minds, the bigger picture thing that they're fighting is the recruiting in the
- 15:26upcoming years of getting players to come in and play a style of football that's
- 15:30attractive and then that will benefit your team. So I think the message that
- 15:35he's giving outwardly speaking by kind of being aggressive a little bit and writing the
- 15:41high the momentum and taking some of those risks and hoping they work out is
- 15:46we have confidence in our players. It's fun to play football here. We
- 15:50support you know, even when they're struggling. I think he's trying to tell
- 15:54us, like, no, we trust our players to go make plays,
- 15:58and therefore that hopefully helps get recruits in a style that may be a little
- 16:03more enjoyable. But the problem is, if you're going to trust your players,
- 16:10you've got to have the players to begin with to be able to do
- 16:11it. And I don't know that we have properly assessed that part of it,
- 16:19especially from the key offensive positions with your quarterback, I mean, some
- 16:22receivers. I think our offensive line has done a solid job. They haven't
- 16:26been great, they haven't been horrible like previous years, So I guess that's
- 16:30a step in the right direction. But I think they're struggling with that is
- 16:34we have to have a program that people want to come here and play.
- 16:38Now, this goes all the way back to what our eventual style or philosophy
- 16:45is for this coaching staff moving forward, and what are we going to look
- 16:48like. Are we trying to be the Wisconsin Iowa of the past? I
- 16:52think a lot of us would say right now, yes, we want that.
- 16:55But does this coaching staff want that? Or are we trying to be
- 16:59more of a pro style offense, which is what we've seen the past couple
- 17:03of weeks that have resulted in losses. I don't know that's the big burning
- 17:07question looking at it from the big picture, because there's gonna need to be
- 17:12a lot of explaining and making up to if we cannot win one of these
- 17:18last two games and we end the year zero to four, which I don't
- 17:22think is out of the realm of possibility. Now, your quarterback play makes
- 17:27you have to play the power like run game stuff like that. If you
- 17:33went out there ran an air raid, you'd be fucked. I'm not saying
- 17:37air raid, but but for example, we like we've said, our quarterback
- 17:41play is not very good, but so is a lot of these big ten
- 17:42West teams, right we knew, we know that what they do better than
- 17:47what we do is they don't turn the ball over because they realize what they
- 17:51have and like Iowa, but Wisconsin a little bit in the sand bottle.
- 17:56They just got their asking by Northwestern. That was interesting. But they're realizing
- 18:02that that and therefore they're winning games at a higher level than we are because
- 18:07they know they don't have a whole lot of playmakers. And yeah, quarterbacks
- 18:11big one. The big question mark here, especially this year. That's proven
- 18:15that point. Trying to look to see what Centerfield's turnover Margo was last year.
- 18:22I'm just curious if it's a player thing or if it's a coaching thing.
- 18:26Obviously, it's a little bit of both. But he helped my boy
- 18:30back in South Carolina. I already had hate coming in. Oh rat Dog.
- 18:38The other thing. We can move on from the freaking third down play,
- 18:41but guys has echoed one of the points I made last week on our
- 18:47receivers and our scheming of pass plays and the route running and all of that
- 18:52in our past game. That third down play, that's obviously the one floating
- 18:57around on Twitter. You can watch it and break it down and slow it
- 19:00down, watch at every angle you want. The design of the play is
- 19:04not very good, and again we don't know if that's play itself or the
- 19:07players running the wrong route or what it was. You have, you're on
- 19:11the seven yard line. You have a guy running a corner route, a
- 19:15shallow corner route, not even deep like at the goal line. And then
- 19:19your two guys are running like three or three yard INDs where you and in
- 19:26versus a slant a slant you're coming straight across the middle, right and end
- 19:30you're going up three and over. Those two guys are running INDs. So
- 19:33you watch that play one, I still I'm not sure who the ball is
- 19:37getting thrown to I don't know, and I thought cam well, and I
- 19:41initially thought that the nice of people saying it could have been Malachi, and
- 19:44the ball probably wasn't too far out of Malachi's from the angle that I saw,
- 19:48probably wasn't too far away. Malachi runs a three yard in and the
- 19:51guy that picks it off is Malachi's defender. So whatever the case may be,
- 19:56and whatever, however, a good thrown of a ball was the guy's
- 19:59a play design. He was just not good. If you're gonna if you're
- 20:02gonna run a corner around and that's your that's your design, then get those
- 20:04two freaking guys out of there and throw it to the corner. I don't
- 20:07know football. I can play Madden, that's it. Like, I don't
- 20:11know designs to play, but I know that that's not what it's supposed to
- 20:14look like, especially on a third down and seven from the goal line.
- 20:18That it just is. It was not a well designed to play at all
- 20:22for your third string quarterback, especially like, just run the fricking ball up
- 20:26the middle. You don't have to worry about it. But anyways, I
- 20:29just I just saw that. I'm like, even whatever call a pass play.
- 20:33If you call a pass play by the book, whatever, then that's
- 20:36the play that we run as a result of it, instead of maybe getting
- 20:40him on a boot, like making it very safe to wherever he doesn't have
- 20:41an option, we can throw it away. But no, that's not what
- 20:45happened. And oh boy, just drop him back like a standard quarterback.
- 20:51That that's the play you want. Yeah, because we have one of those.
- 20:56It's exactly what we have. Yeah, all right, Well, any
- 21:02any other negative things? I mean, yeah, no, I think turnovers
- 21:07are really the only big negative. I don't talk talk about why that continues
- 21:12to happen. I don't know. I honestly don't trus Jeff Simmons, I
- 21:18don't know. Harberg even had one get called back, and it's like,
- 21:22wow, thrown and I think it was two picks in each of his last
- 21:27four games. It's honestly amazing that we have five wins with the number of
- 21:34turnovers we have, and Harbors also over, like you said, plays called
- 21:40back. Let's help. It's just so fascinating to me that that like that.
- 21:48It was not like it was a this year problem. Guys, this
- 21:49is last year's problem too, But this year it feels different. I think
- 21:57this year feels different because we're seeing a lot of Last year, we were
- 22:03so focused on our offensive line that some of the turnover things were like,
- 22:07Okay, this also sucks, but it doesn't matter if our offensive line is
- 22:11that bad, right, like you get sacked from the blind sign and fumble.
- 22:15It's a lot of our offensive line this year. I think we're doing
- 22:21some better things, especially defensively, that are keeping us in games and helping
- 22:26us win. And this is the one thing that is really really still dragged
- 22:33it holding us back is the turnovers. And the stats are all out there.
- 22:37It is nuts. Since two thousand and four, we are the second
- 22:38where we have the highest turnover or lowest turnover margin, whichever way you want
- 22:42to look at it. And the second team is like half of our it's
- 22:47like one hundred and something to like fifty something, Like it's just horrendous.
- 22:51It's horrible. I don't even know how do you coach that out. I
- 22:55mean, obviously, the the interceptions can be coached out, because that's more
- 22:57of an understanding of even a good quarterback play. Like the fumbles. I
- 23:02just don't understand, Like, here's how you here's here's one way you coach
- 23:06it out. You don't throw the ball in third and five from the goal
- 23:08line. Like, if you have players right that are gonna make mistakes,
- 23:12that that's going to happen. And unfortunately, we have quarterbacks in the room
- 23:17that probably make worse decision making than others, right, And yeah, maybe
- 23:22we have some running backs that have a little more fumble ightis than others.
- 23:26But as coaching, how do you coach out of that? You you literally
- 23:30dumb it down and you take out the element of risk as much as you
- 23:36can so that you are limiting your turnovers. And yeah, you might still
- 23:40have one or two that might still happen here or there, but you're not
- 23:44giving you yourself the chance to even have four or five, and especially late
- 23:47in the game. That's how you coach out of it. They may still
- 23:51happen, but you literally just to go back to round zero and just say
- 23:56running backs were not fumbling the ball, and I do. I will say
- 23:59I think the running backs gotten better on their carries. EMITTT. Johnson specifically
- 24:03on when they carry the ball, it is high and tight, they're they're
- 24:06tucking it away, like, yeah, you you would hope that you wouldn't
- 24:08have to do that if you have some better talent, but we don't.
- 24:11I think they've coached their way through that a little bit. The quarterback play
- 24:15in the interceptions though, I mean jesus, the one Jeff Simms passed that
- 24:19was like twenty feet over the head, like, oh my god. And
- 24:22that was also on a play like we didn't need to throw it there,
- 24:26like there's no I think that was first down or I don't remember exactly what
- 24:29it was a second and seven, but yeah, whatever it was. I
- 24:34in my mind at that same point in time, I said, great,
- 24:37we got a couple of first downs. If we don't get another one,
- 24:40we just punt it to change the field position. That's totally okay. But
- 24:45no, so well, what's gotta suck is you're wasting this great defense.
- 24:52If you had even decent quarterback play, you for sure, I have two
- 24:55more wins right now one Minnesota. You would have one yesterday, silent.
- 25:00It's a quarterback. That's yeah, yeak. I agree, And thanks for
- 25:06making us talk about the defense, because I I will say, another freaking
- 25:11phenomenal game against a very high powered offense, and guys talk about bailing out
- 25:18our offense several times. Man, did they do a phenomenal job of that,
- 25:21And they finally forced their own turnovers to like it wasn't Maryland most I
- 25:26think Maryland had three or four turnovers agree three I think, and two of
- 25:30them, if not all, three of them were us forcing them, like
- 25:33us making a play on the ball instead of them doing something dumb. Like
- 25:37our defense did exactly what we asked him to do this game and everything plus
- 25:44that, and again shout out to Tony White and everything that he's doing.
- 25:48You talk about his salary, him and him and sas should just flip salaries
- 25:52at this point because it's very impressive what he continues to do against an offense
- 25:56that I was scared they were going to score twenty four points like thirty one,
- 26:00and just because that's what they're doing against other teams that have good defenses
- 26:04as well. But nope, like here, we are battling our ass back
- 26:10every time we turn it over at midfield and get him to punter our field,
- 26:12go hold them to a field goal. Whatever that is. Our defense
- 26:15played well again and that needs to be known and remembered still because we're jack
- 26:21You're right, we're wasting him we're wasting our defensive qu Quint Newsom didn't even
- 26:26play yesterday. Yeah, and he arguably our best defensive player. Yep,
- 26:32it was it. Also, I think the reason that stings a little bit
- 26:36more is because it's like our offense is just put in the defense as far
- 26:41down as you possibly can. And when you thought Maryland was going to score
- 26:44after our offense fucked up, they forced the phone about the three yard lay,
- 26:48like holy shit, it can happen, like we can cover up any
- 26:52mistake and then we couldn't. But and you know, people are like,
- 26:57oh well I saw you know, rules said something online like oh well,
- 27:02you know, we still had a chance to stop them. You know that
- 27:04last drive of the game. Is like, yeah, you're right, but
- 27:10he's not wrong. But yeah, how many times again, yeah is elite,
- 27:15He's not wrong by any means, but how many times? I mean
- 27:17that game could have been with the way our offense to turn the ball over,
- 27:19could have been a twenty five point game at that point, but our
- 27:23defense continued to make plays and make up for it. And it comes down
- 27:27to our offense fucking up again. So the defense, guys, is phenomenal.
- 27:34That is still what gives me hope here the next two weeks that we
- 27:37can win one of these and we can still win both of them. I
- 27:40really think we can because our defense is playing at such an elite level and
- 27:45we're not playing either offense is gonna be probably even as good as Maryland's here,
- 27:49Like I think Wisconsin might be getting Braylen Allen back potentially this Saturday,
- 27:56but it's not. It's something that we're to be in the game both games,
- 28:00we will be. We just can't turn the ball over. We just
- 28:04can't do it. Like that's what it comes down to, and I don't
- 28:07know what it's going to take to make that happen, like Austin, like
- 28:11he said, from a coaching perspective or from a player perspective, like just
- 28:15don't do it. It's it's so glaringly obvious that that is what I think
- 28:22to assume. Simms is in the third string QB I rule. When he
- 28:26was talking about quarterbacks at the press conference, he was like, oh,
- 28:29yeah, you know Chubba and Heinrich. He didn't even mentioned Simms. Yeah.
- 28:33I think he's done with him. I think he is done with him.
- 28:36And I saw someone say like on the sideline after he threw his pick.
- 28:40Sim was just sitting there like in shock of like what is happening?
- 28:45But dude, like that you shouldn't realized that after the first time he got
- 28:49benched, like this is his first home game. It was he has I
- 28:55mean he he had. I guess he had that one fumbled snap against perdu
- 28:59Yeah, but this is like his first like actual like and I didn't blame
- 29:06Rule for sticking with him when Harberg was kind of hurt because we did have
- 29:10a little bit more juice. But god damn man. And you know what,
- 29:12guys, Sim's looked good for the first like seven or eight plays,
- 29:15like we were gonna draw with him, but it was just the inevitable coming.
- 29:21Like when he came in, it's like okay, okay, Like this
- 29:22is okay okay. He just knew that eventually something was gonna happen, like
- 29:27it's not gonna last as long. And then not only did it happen,
- 29:30once it happened, I think he just gets bored back then it's like I
- 29:34gotta turn the ball over here real quick. Oh so who is our quarterback
- 29:41moving forward? And we can talk more about that on Wednesday too. When
- 29:44we hear some more news. But I mean, do you stick do you
- 29:47stick with assuming Heinrich's healthy? Do you stick with a party who showed maybe
- 29:52a little bit of promise and and maybe guys, that last drive might have
- 29:56been the best drive we had all year? Maybe I didn't finish, Like,
- 30:02who do we go with? Or here's my best option? I still
- 30:04like playing both. I still like that, especially when they're both bad like
- 30:08and they both know they're bad like. I don't mind that option. But
- 30:11but counter to that is what one bring? You have backfield and receiver out
- 30:19there. You can have all three quarterbacks out there? Can we have zero
- 30:22of them out there? Like Dak said, just run wildcat? Actually I
- 30:29think I think you just say fucking go with the party these last two games.
- 30:32What do you have to lose? You already don't You haven't Harburg,
- 30:34you don't when you don't watch much of Party yet this year? Just throw
- 30:37them out there. Yeah, and maybe eligibility though the thought is yeah both
- 30:45eligibility is one and I guess, is is Heiner giving us more than what
- 30:51Hubba is? And the answer to that was was yes for a while.
- 30:56I think now it's you can maybe are quite especially with the way Chubbu looked
- 31:02okay before that interception. But what I think it comes down to you is
- 31:07something that we're gonna have zero insight into. There's gonna be no stats on
- 31:10it. It's gonna be who has the locker room, who has the other
- 31:14guys with him, who's the leader of the group, who's more what are
- 31:18the guys gonna have more confidence players with Heinrich coming out there Chubbin. I
- 31:23don't know the answer to that. Nobody's gonna know the answer to that.
- 31:26Heinrich, what I thought watching him in person up and up until this week,
- 31:30was a great leader. He was tough, he was encouraging, and
- 31:34I think he's still doing that right. But are the guys responding to him
- 31:38now after the last few games, or is it time for a fresh face
- 31:42and guys can say, Okay, we're gonna rally around someone new here.
- 31:47I don't know the answer to that, and we're not going to know the
- 31:48answer to that, but I would hope I would think that would be the
- 31:52decision in the locker room. I don't think anybody's rallying behind Jeff Sins.
- 31:56I just don't think that's happening. So, I mean, people do seem
- 32:00to like him, but I would say Perdy probably does have the most reps
- 32:05with the people who are playing the most right now. In all honesty,
- 32:08I mean, yeah, So I bet Purdy plays pretty starts this next week.
- 32:16So I bet Heinrich's not gonna be healthy and rules done with Sims.
- 32:22I think that's the way they'll frame it for sure. Last thing I guess,
- 32:28and I just summarize all of this this podcast. This is, like
- 32:31I said before, the most it hurt. This game hurt the most because
- 32:37of how how we lost it, how we lost in the importance that it
- 32:44had on our schedule in the rest of the year, and the way we
- 32:46lost it with the decision making. It put a little damper in me,
- 32:53in me my belief and rule and the staff moving forward of something very simple,
- 33:00something that I thought was you can go guys, you can go in
- 33:02and take the risk reward percentage chance of something working over and over on so
- 33:07many different plays, and and we can say, yeah, like we're not
- 33:10in practice, the coaching staffs right on this one. Whatever. But this
- 33:13is this was one decision I think that everybody that knows anything about Huscar football
- 33:20would have said, what the fuck were we doing throwing it there? And
- 33:23we did it, and that was like, oh my god, like what
- 33:27in the world. Even the Minnesota game right going into halftime, very similar,
- 33:34We're down there, Jeff Sims throws it to the straight to a Minnesota
- 33:37defender. Like even that, I was like, okay, Like it was
- 33:40the first game of the year, you know, the second second quarter,
- 33:44like we really don't know what we got. We're still trying to figure things
- 33:46out. I was able to defend him a little bit there and probably even
- 33:52thought that was the right football play, and I think I even said that
- 33:54at that time that is what you do in that situation, you throw it
- 33:58and and that was maybe the wrong opinion at that point, but that was
- 34:01a football play. But now ten games later, it was definitely the wrong
- 34:07play given what we know we have this year watching the Husk Roppins will send
- 34:13me the hospital, That's what I found out, yeap. So I was
- 34:15we need to talk about that here for the last five minutes because we got
- 34:20this lovely picture today from dak on his on his night, and yet agree,
- 34:29I hurt so bad right now, I guess it is not fun.
- 34:32So we just get this random picture of Dak's hand and it's got the gnarliest
- 34:36gash on it. I dropped the bar stool and I picked it up.
- 34:42I don't know how it cut me that bad, but it did. I
- 34:45look down the bar stool. Yeah, JJ's shout out. Then there's probably
- 34:50blood everywhere. But but yeah, how the hell they cut you? Wait?
- 34:55What? Okay, I'm I'm still trying to figure out how you dropped
- 35:00the barstool and then the process of white one. Why was the like you
- 35:04tipped it over, you were sitting on it. This is what everybody says
- 35:08happened, does not know, But I honest thought I got stabbed like it
- 35:15looked like that. But but they say I dropped a barstool like it tipped
- 35:20over, and I went down and picked it up. Next thing, you
- 35:22know, I'm just bleeding everywhere. So they think they don't know how it
- 35:27cut me, but it cut me pretty good. Dropping a barstool still doesn't
- 35:32make sense because when you say drop a barstool, that means like you were
- 35:36holding a barstool, which why would you be holding a barstool? Now?
- 35:39I think I think I went to sit down and tipped over. Okay,
- 35:43so then you were trying to pick it up off the ground, so it
- 35:45could have you could have gashed it something on your way down. Mm hmmm
- 35:51on something. Huh. Think about though. Both arms hurt because I haven't
- 35:55I IVY in this other arm, and my hand hurts so fucking bad.
- 36:00It's it's not fun. Stick stitches later. Oh shit, dack even,
- 36:07Oh you looked good yesterday. You're you're becoming a Husker fan of that's the
- 36:09way the Huskers are affected. Yes, I asked him in the hospital.
- 36:14I said, hey, can you throw an o? U like? Nope,
- 36:16okay, whatever is that? I don't watch a lick of that.
- 36:21You're wearing the hat that's got blood all over it too, right, yep?
- 36:25Yeah, because I wiped my hand. You know, I was bleeding
- 36:30at first. I put my hand up to my hat to move it around,
- 36:34and yeah, just there's a lot of blood. Jjds. We'll just
- 36:37say that it was what had to be gushing out of your hand like it
- 36:40is R rated movie like, oh yeah, no, it was like spraying
- 36:45out. Oh yeah, it was. It was wild. We'll save people
- 36:52from actually seeing the picture posting it on Twitter that that probably would get taken
- 36:57down. Anyways, it's a nasty picture. Well, Dak, we made
- 37:04it through the whole podcast and you couldn't even mention that your vikings neat my
- 37:07Saints. So I'm very happy. Yeah, I was saving that about.
- 37:12You would not have said one word if I didn't bring it up now.
- 37:17I kind of honestly forgot about earlier. I was. I was in and
- 37:21out of sleeping, and I watched most of that game. But Josh Dobbs,
- 37:27I was in and out of sleeping like I was. I was resting
- 37:30my eyes a little bit. But anyway, Josh Dobbs looks great. He
- 37:35absolutely lit their ass up. If Jamis would have came in and led us
- 37:38back to winning, you would have never heard the end of it. I
- 37:44got nervous. What do he that? That guy is the most up and
- 37:49down quarterback I've ever saw. He looks from play to play even he looks
- 37:52great one play and then like the worst quarterback every next play. Con treat
- 37:57Jamis many vision. He's electric, though he's a lot more electric than Derek
- 38:04Carr. Would Nebraska take it. I'm not on a scale right, NFL
- 38:07skilled a college skill, and we take a guy like James. Yes,
- 38:12oh yeah, we already turned over the ball that much. I'd have That's
- 38:15what I'm saying. He's kind of isn't the equivalent of what we have in
- 38:21college like the guy the NFL quarterback just is known for turning the ball over
- 38:24Like I don't know if we do want someone like James. You both already
- 38:30have it, but way worse passwords. That's true. Got two wins on
- 38:35my way to twenty one, yep, and we got good two more this
- 38:40week. Rider coming up tomorrow yep. Lady Skurts volleyball is still undefeated.
- 38:46I kind of hope we lose one of our last four, to be honest,
- 38:49But on Saturday, Wisconsin, I'm sorry that Saturday, next Saturday or
- 38:58the Friday after Thanksgiving, right yep, right after the Iowa game. Well,
- 39:02that's gonna be a tough watch. Holy shit. Never asked Iowa over
- 39:07under twenty four, baby, that's what we're looking at. That might be
- 39:10the worst watch game in the history of football. Holy all right, we'll
- 39:16be back Wednesday reviewing the Wisconsin Badgers. Go Bigred, give your Bloomer sooner.
- 39:23I love that burnt orange dude. That
