- 0:18Speaker 1: A warm welcome to you all. Hope you'll soundly enjoy
- 0:22Speaker 1: our program.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I'm listening to Movie Meltdown because I'm John Saxon and
- 0:30Speaker 2: I like to.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Do that.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I'm listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:57Speaker 4: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 1:00Speaker 4: Picture Association of America.
- 1:02Speaker 5: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 1:07Speaker 6: Our nuclear reactor.
- 1:09Speaker 7: Pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:37Speaker 6: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown!
- 1:40Speaker 4: I am Brian, and however way you have found yourself here, you.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Are at the Yeti Spaghetti Show. It's been quite a process.
- 2:13Speaker 8: I came up with this idea years ago, probably about
- 2:16Speaker 8: when the show started, and it's taken this long to
- 2:18Speaker 8: make it happen, so I'm amazed it came together. But,
- 2:22Speaker 8: you know, we have a nice sculpture, a dancing yeti,
- 2:25Speaker 8: and it's pretty impressive, actually. If you're not familiar with
- 2:29Speaker 8: the show, we are.
- 2:31Speaker 1: A movie geek podcast.
- 2:34Speaker 8: Many of the people seated here are on it, so
- 2:37Speaker 8: they know better than everybody else how terrible it is.
- 2:40Speaker 8: If you go looking for it on iTunes, you'll see
- 2:43Speaker 8: it's got a lot of explicit tags. We earn those
- 2:46Speaker 8: every week, so just fair warning. We usually are rated.
- 2:50Speaker 1: We'll try to control ourselves tonight, but there's no guarantees.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Hello everybody.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Sorry to be getting started late here.
- 3:05Speaker 9: I'm glad. I'm very glad to see 20 people. I'm sorry.
- 3:14Speaker 10: Up where the evening dawns on All.
- 3:19Speaker 3: The river rolls on by.
- 3:23Speaker 10: The neighbors say I tell sea trips Oh, the neighbors
- 3:28Speaker 10: say I tell lies Somewhere a plane.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Went down Oh, it can never be stopped.
- 3:40Speaker 11: All right, we're.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Coming to you live from the kitchen. We're here with
- 4:08Speaker 1: our chef Christian. How excited are you? Woo!
- 4:11Speaker 12: Super excited.
- 4:12Speaker 8: How much of a pain in the ass has this
- 4:14Speaker 8: process been for you?
- 4:16Speaker 12: It's more of a pain in the hand. Pain in
- 4:19Speaker 12: my wrist.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You better explain that. Knowing our listeners, you better explain that.
- 4:25Speaker 12: I'll leave that to personal interpretation. However you take that
- 4:28Speaker 12: to mean.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Alright. We're getting ready to get this show rolling here.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Oh look, food's ready.
- 4:47Speaker 13: Meatballs.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Are they done? I don't know. I'm waiting on the thermometer. Hey,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I think they're done. Meatballs.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Thank you guys.
- 5:05Speaker 8: Very much.
- 5:20Speaker 9: Back before I won the movie star I was straight
- 5:21Speaker 9: up out on the floor And I had a picture
- 5:21Speaker 9: of another lady's.
- 5:22Speaker 14: Wife I'm heading out to Hollywood, just to have a
- 5:46Speaker 14: little fun. Every town will make me crazy.
- 6:05Speaker 8: I did want to point out the Yeti cakes are
- 6:08Speaker 8: available now if you're ready for dessert. Our own Christian
- 6:11Speaker 8: has put them together, so it's pretty impressive, and they're delicious.
- 6:16Speaker 8: Each one is adorned with a Yeti face. They're quite impressive,
- 6:23Speaker 8: and adorable.
- 6:24Speaker 1: But yeah, buy a box, take them home. She does
- 6:27Speaker 1: have a take-home option, I believe.
- 6:36Speaker 9: When we got out of the finest.
- 6:47Speaker 10: Land, the great broads seemed left hand, the northern.
- 6:53Speaker 11: Scouts might be in the.
- 6:57Speaker 9: Face of many good men.
- 7:00Speaker 10: Wake a crowd pure and true, stand.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Like lords in the.
- 7:13Speaker 9: Bending pool. The war is over now. The war is over.
- 7:20Speaker 9: The war is over.
- 7:27Speaker 8: And otherwise, just thanks to the people who helped put
- 7:30Speaker 8: this together.
- 7:31Speaker 1: It's been a ridiculous process, actually.
- 7:34Speaker 8: So to run it down, thanks for James for sitting
- 7:36Speaker 8: it up here and putting the music out there for us.
- 7:39Speaker 1: So thanks to James. Once again, Christian, our chef, I
- 7:43Speaker 1: think we should applaud for her because she's.
- 7:45Speaker 8: About killed herself this last, I don't know, a year
- 7:49Speaker 8: or so ago when I started roping her into this nonsense.
- 7:53Speaker 8: It's a shame it took that long to bring it together,
- 7:55Speaker 8: but you know. Yeah, I was pretty sure she was
- 7:58Speaker 8: going to have a heart attack this past.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Week, so... Don't deny it now. Oh, what else? Um, Juliana,
- 8:05Speaker 1: who is now out front dancing around. So, go up
- 8:10Speaker 1: and say thank you.
- 8:10Speaker 8: Before she passes out before the night's over with, because
- 8:13Speaker 8: I'm assuming it's really hot in that outfit.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Um, what else? Steve for the awesome ice sculpture.
- 8:20Speaker 8: So, um, he does actually do that professionally, I would say, obviously,
- 8:23Speaker 8: if you look at it. So, um, It is LouisvilleIceSculpture.com,
- 8:27Speaker 8: so go to their website and order yourself up a Yeti.
- 8:30Speaker 8: Or he probably does other things, probably like boring weddings
- 8:34Speaker 8: and nonsense.
- 8:35Speaker 1: But no, screw all that. Just go with a Yeti.
- 8:38Speaker 8: Even if you're having a wedding, Yeti is the way
- 8:40Speaker 8: to go. Dave, Beau, for giving me equipment I didn't
- 8:44Speaker 8: have to do the rest of this process. And otherwise,
- 8:49Speaker 8: just anybody else who's.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Helped spread the word. It's... hard finding an audience with
- 8:53Speaker 1: a show like this.
- 8:54Speaker 8: So anybody who's done their part with just word of mouth,
- 8:57Speaker 8: you know, we appreciate it. So thanks to the guys
- 9:00Speaker 8: who are here every week on the show. We can't
- 9:02Speaker 8: do it without you either. So with that, I'd say
- 9:05Speaker 8: we get this official cinematic version of the show going.
- 9:08Speaker 1: So thank you for coming out.
- 9:32Speaker 9: No way No way No.
- 9:47Speaker 15: A small band of men on a perilous search for
- 9:50Speaker 15: the man-beast of Tibet, the abominable snowman of the Himalayas.
- 9:56Speaker 15: You've heard of him, haven't you? The world's most shocking monster.
- 10:01Speaker 15: No one's ever lived who's seen him. Be on your guard.
- 10:06Speaker 15: He's coming to this theater. The abominable snowman dares you.
- 10:11Speaker 15: We dare you. Dare you to see the abominable snowman
- 10:16Speaker 15: of the Himalayas.
- 10:20Speaker 9: What did it look like?
- 10:23Speaker 16: Tell me, what did you see, Kusang?
- 10:24Speaker 1: Tell me.
- 10:26Speaker 17: I see, I see what men must not see.
- 10:38Speaker 15: Warning. Only those with stout nerves and strong hearts should
- 10:42Speaker 15: risk seeing the abominable snowman of the Himalayas.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Oh, you're my father's son You never know when you'll shine.
- 11:13Speaker 10: I ain't born to know I am my father's.
- 11:23Speaker 18: Son In the mood for hot coffee?
- 11:27Speaker 5: When you are, nothing else will satisfy. Coffee has a flavor,
- 11:31Speaker 5: an aroma, a deep-down satisfying goodness all its own. And
- 11:35Speaker 5: our coffee has something extra, the care with which we
- 11:37Speaker 5: brew and serve it. You'll enjoy the show more while
- 11:40Speaker 5: you're enjoying steaming hot coffee.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Come and get yours now.
- 12:09Speaker 13: Dave, I do not get superheroes.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Oh my God, I don't get you. What don't you get?
- 12:15Speaker 1: Tower bot here.
- 12:17Speaker 19: Well, the meatbags were going to say that if you're
- 12:19Speaker 19: a geek and like podcasts, then you could try Tower
- 12:22Speaker 19: of Technobabble at www.toweroftechnobabble.com.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Then this started.
- 12:30Speaker 6: Well, it's up to you.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna get my taser and put a stop to this.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Towerbot out. Okay, monkeys.
- 12:39Speaker 13: It's nap time.
- 12:46Speaker 3: And by the night.
- 12:49Speaker 11: I came here with the Lord.
- 13:06Speaker 9: It's so much lighter.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Now that you're.

- 16:11Speaker 3: Very much for coming out here today.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Hi, this is Dick Miller, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 16:31Speaker 3: You and your shortcuts.
- 16:33Speaker 8: I told you to turn west at East St.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Louis.
- 16:36Speaker 20: Yeah, I know.
- 16:38Speaker 9: Way I figure it.
- 16:54Speaker 3: We're somewhere in the Himalayas Mountains. That's pronounced Himalaya.
- 16:59Speaker 13: Himalayas?
- 17:00Speaker 16: Why, you four-legged Marco Polo, that's in Asia.
- 17:05Speaker 8: Himalayas.
- 17:06Speaker 3: No wonder it's so cold.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Look there.
- 17:08Speaker 3: I've got a wonderful idea.
- 17:10Speaker 15: Let's... Well, do me a favor, will you?
- 17:13Speaker 9: Just don't do me any more favors.
- 17:15Speaker 13: You just stay right here.
- 17:16Speaker 20: And study to be a snowshoe rep.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I'm going back to Perth Ambulance.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Ah!
- 17:23Speaker 18: Oh, what a cute little pink bunny rabbit. Just what
- 17:29Speaker 18: I always wanted, my own little bunny rabbit. I will
- 17:34Speaker 18: name him George, and I will hug him and pet him.
- 17:38Speaker 3: And squeeze him. I'm not a bunny rabbit.
- 17:41Speaker 13: And pat him and pet him and.
- 17:43Speaker 3: You're hurting me. And rub him and caress him and.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I will make him joy.
- 17:52Speaker 6: And I will hug him and squeeze him and pet
- 17:54Speaker 6: him and pat him and.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Hey.
- 18:00Speaker 13: Hey, what do you know?
- 18:02Speaker 6: He melted.
- 18:03Speaker 3: He really was a snowman. Abominable, that is.
- 18:15Speaker 9: It's time for Tales from the Cryptids.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Tales from the Cryptids.
- 18:50Speaker 8: All right, so we are back with this week's Sofa
- 18:52Speaker 8: Theater feature, and this time it doesn't really count because
- 18:55Speaker 8: we were out in the world. So we were technically,
- 18:58Speaker 8: you know, it's an Italian spaghetti feature. It's not one
- 19:02Speaker 8: of those westerns, I suppose, but it was Italian.
- 19:06Speaker 1: So to bring in.
- 19:07Speaker 8: We've lost most of the audience here, which I told
- 19:11Speaker 8: them to run for their lives. It's for their own safety, really.
- 19:14Speaker 8: But to bring in who is sitting here out of
- 19:18Speaker 8: our normal crew.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Go ahead. I'm Ben.
- 19:23Speaker 13: I'm Beau.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I'm Greg. I'm Alan.
- 19:27Speaker 8: And the previously mentioned Christian has joined us. And yeah,
- 19:31Speaker 8: so you not only had to put up with the movie,
- 19:34Speaker 8: but you had to make all the.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Damn food to go along with this event. Yeah, it
- 19:38Speaker 1: was a lot of food. It's way too much food
- 19:40Speaker 1: is what it is.
- 19:40Speaker 13: It was delicious.
- 19:41Speaker 1: It was good. Very good food.
- 19:42Speaker 13: And Brian, I appreciated the straight bagels. They were good breadsticks.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I'm telling you it's a different process.
- 19:49Speaker 13: Is it not?
- 19:50Speaker 1: Done differently?
- 19:51Speaker 12: Those are not bagels.
- 19:51Speaker 13: See?
- 19:52Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 19:52Speaker 8: Those are not bagels.
- 19:56Speaker 13: People who know bagels.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I mean, maybe down the street.
- 20:00Speaker 12: That was what we consider bagels, but not here.
- 20:02Speaker 8: When you go to the grocery and you buy a
- 20:04Speaker 8: bag full of what they call bagels.
- 20:07Speaker 6: Talking to bagel geeks here.
- 20:10Speaker 1: We know the difference. Yeah, it's... that was a very
- 20:13Speaker 1: different thing they.
- 20:14Speaker 13: Walk into other bagel places and take a bite and
- 20:17Speaker 13: just throw down what they just.
- 20:18Speaker 8: Bought you don't make it that far you just make
- 20:21Speaker 8: it in and go and turn around.
- 20:24Speaker 1: You guys liars anyway I had.
- 20:28Speaker 13: To smother this with so much cream cheese to make an.
- 20:30Speaker 8: Edible I walked in here so yeah you for some
- 20:36Speaker 8: reason decided to join us so thank you for sitting
- 20:39Speaker 8: in and enjoying the fun that was Yeti.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yeah, sure.
- 20:44Speaker 8: So, for the details, this week's Italian food feature is, again,
- 20:52Speaker 8: one of the Tales.
- 20:53Speaker 1: From the Cryptids session, which is oh so popular these days.
- 20:56Speaker 1: We're hitting that a lot more often.
- 20:59Speaker 8: So, in the subsection, the Yeti Files, this time we're
- 21:02Speaker 8: watching Yeti, a.k.a.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Giant of the 20th Century... Take your pick.
- 21:08Speaker 13: The latter seems more applicable.
- 21:10Speaker 1: If you look it up on IMDb, that's what it is.
- 21:12Speaker 1: It's Giant of the 20th Century. But the title on
- 21:15Speaker 1: the screen says Yeti. So, yeah, they just jam the
- 21:18Speaker 1: two together, I suppose. Or Yeti.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Not Yeti.
- 21:21Speaker 1: No, it's not pronounced. It's all jacked up.
- 21:25Speaker 21: How were they pronouncing that?
- 21:26Speaker 13: I couldn't really.
- 21:27Speaker 1: It sounded weird. She was very specific on, like, her pronunciation.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It was like, Yeti. I was like, what? Yeti. But, like,
- 21:33Speaker 1: everything else was dubbed in normal. We're getting ahead of ourselves. So,
- 21:39Speaker 1: the year is 1977. The director, pardon me while I
- 21:42Speaker 1: totally jack up some Italian.
- 21:44Speaker 6: Just do it like Mario and it'll sound great.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Hey, it's-a me, a Mario. Gianfranco Parolini. Thank you. The plot,
- 21:54Speaker 1: according to IMDb.
- 21:55Speaker 11: Oh, wait.
- 21:55Speaker 1: IMDb doesn't even have a plot for this. That's how
- 21:59Speaker 1: special this movie is. It is speechless. It doesn't know
- 22:02Speaker 1: what to make of the movie.
- 22:04Speaker 8: So they find a giant Yeti and he gets some
- 22:09Speaker 8: kids and an adventure ensues.
- 22:11Speaker 1: There you go. So, yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 8: Where would you like to begin with Yeti, giant of
- 22:17Speaker 8: the 20th century?
- 22:19Speaker 21: It was kind of a Sergio Leone shot. You mentioned that.
- 22:21Speaker 21: It got the zoom in on the eyes, and that's
- 22:23Speaker 21: immediately what I thought of.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I don't know if it's the same camp, really.
- 22:28Speaker 21: No, but, you know.
- 22:30Speaker 13: It was nice. It was nice to see.
- 22:32Speaker 6: The director had a fascination with helicopter blades.
- 22:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 22:36Speaker 20: I looked at him and I was like, man, he
- 22:39Speaker 20: could make a serious drinking game out of.
- 22:40Speaker 13: Every time you see just the helicopter blades.
- 22:43Speaker 1: He put John Carpenter to shame.
- 22:46Speaker 20: As far as just being obsessed with way too long
- 22:49Speaker 20: shots of helicopters taking off and setting down.
- 22:52Speaker 1: It was crazy. And even contraptions for carrying people. What
- 22:59Speaker 1: was with that?
- 23:02Speaker 13: Greg and I were kind of pointing out, if you
- 23:05Speaker 13: look at the scale of the Yeti containment booth, Dr.
- 23:10Speaker 13: Whovian sort of container... As it's in flight, it makes
- 23:14Speaker 13: the Yeti only about 10 to 12 feet tall, but
- 23:18Speaker 13: yet somehow when it lands and it drops it off,
- 23:21Speaker 13: it is now... 50 to 100 feet tall, if not more.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I mean, how big is the Yeti would you estimate?
- 23:27Speaker 8: Sometimes, except later when they walk past him, they're up to, like,
- 23:30Speaker 8: his knees.
- 23:31Speaker 13: Right.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So he's not that big. They're having scale issues on
- 23:34Speaker 1: this little guy.
- 23:35Speaker 13: It kind of reminds me of Night of the Lepus
- 23:36Speaker 13: in that sense.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Our beloved Night of the Lepus.
- 23:40Speaker 13: Sometimes the rabbits are as big as just, like, you know,
- 23:43Speaker 13: a large dog. And other times... It's a dump truck.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes it's climbing over a dam. Yeah, you.
- 23:50Speaker 8: It's very inconsistent in that movie and this movie.
- 23:54Speaker 13: Yeti had like the most expressive face.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Ever, though.
- 23:57Speaker 1: That guy.
- 23:58Speaker 13: I was going to say what John Stamos did before
- 24:02Speaker 13: Full House.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I don't know. What? Let's establish this first.
- 24:05Speaker 20: This wasn't like a stop motion or a person.
- 24:08Speaker 1: This was just a dude.
- 24:11Speaker 13: With a lot of facial hair.
- 24:14Speaker 1: This was the Yeti.
- 24:15Speaker 6: The caveman from the Geico commercial.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it was that.
- 24:19Speaker 13: I think he had the same chest piece that Ricardo
- 24:21Speaker 13: Montalban wore in Star Trek 2.
- 24:24Speaker 4: What?
- 24:25Speaker 1: He wasn't that ripped? What are you talking about? Oh, man.
- 24:30Speaker 13: Oh, yeah, we have to throw out the spoiler alert.
- 24:32Speaker 1: God forbid we ruin this for you. Spoiler alert on Yeti.
- 24:37Speaker 1: This is spoiling it for no one. No, we're not.
- 24:40Speaker 1: This can only make you want to watch it more. Yeah.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I don't think we're doing this movie a favor. I
- 24:47Speaker 1: don't know.
- 24:47Speaker 13: I really liked it.
- 24:48Speaker 15: I was having a fantastic time.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Oh, I did too.
- 24:51Speaker 6: I had a fantastic time with it.
- 24:53Speaker 1: It's right up our alley. I'll put it that way. But, yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 1: I don't know. I think what I'm most.
- 25:00Speaker 8: amazed by is just like the stuff that they did have.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I'm like, they had a helicopter.
- 25:06Speaker 8: I mean, he was pretty proud of that helicopter too.
- 25:10Speaker 13: Well, and the whole thing was, if he was that
- 25:12Speaker 13: obsessed with the helicopter and they had it that, you know, available,
- 25:16Speaker 13: why is it that when the Yeti first got away,
- 25:19Speaker 13: they went after the Yeti on foot?
- 25:21Speaker 1: Because that's how you switch for a Yeti. They even
- 25:24Speaker 1: called for a boat when they have a helicopter.
- 25:26Speaker 13: Exactly.
- 25:29Speaker 1: But, like, even at the beginning when they're, like, when
- 25:30Speaker 1: they're thawing them out, they've got flamethrowers. I mean. Yeah.
- 25:35Speaker 1: We don't have enough time. We have to do this
- 25:37Speaker 1: as we're making the trip midair. We have to thaw
- 25:39Speaker 1: them in the air. Like, we can't. We have flamethrowers.
- 25:43Speaker 8: That was my other favorite reviving, like. what if your
- 25:47Speaker 8: hospital decided we're going to revive you, but we have
- 25:50Speaker 8: to take you way up in the air?
- 25:52Speaker 20: It's tough to think that, oh, this giant monster might
- 25:55Speaker 20: go apeshit when.
- 25:56Speaker 1: We wake him up in the sky like this. Exactly.
- 25:59Speaker 13: It's a perfectly legitimate thing to do. It's like, after
- 26:01Speaker 13: he's been dormant for one million years, let's wake him
- 26:04Speaker 13: up inside of a glass box, you know, 2,000 feet
- 26:06Speaker 13: above the ground.
- 26:07Speaker 1: After we burn him with flamethrowers. We'll have the gas
- 26:10Speaker 1: freighter to go just in case. Just in case. Oh, wait,
- 26:13Speaker 1: we left the windows down.
- 26:14Speaker 20: Pour warm water all over him.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And then shock him.
- 26:18Speaker 13: And then we touch down back on the ground and
- 26:21Speaker 13: open up the entire container and all the gas pours out.
- 26:24Speaker 20: I hope that you like him and I hope that
- 26:28Speaker 20: you like us too.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Now, here you go.
- 26:32Speaker 20: Like both scenes in the movie where they landed the
- 26:35Speaker 20: Yeti in a giant public crowd. There was never like
- 26:39Speaker 20: a boundary or like a fenced off like perimeter.
- 26:41Speaker 1: They just landed. People were literally standing next to that
- 26:44Speaker 1: giant telephone booth.
- 26:45Speaker 13: They walked next to it. Then 10 seconds later, he
- 26:47Speaker 13: breaks out. It's like they did not remember this the
- 26:51Speaker 13: first time.
- 26:51Speaker 20: He went on a rampage.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Surprisingly, few people died, though.
- 26:57Speaker 14: Yeah, right.
- 26:58Speaker 21: Well, he was a nice, peaceful... I know, but still,
- 27:01Speaker 21: when he's all pissed off... It's almost like the time
- 27:02Speaker 21: for someone to die.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:04Speaker 8: Well, I guess at this point, we should bring up
- 27:06Speaker 8: the fact that anybody who's seen the movie made a
- 27:10Speaker 8: third of the way in.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I'm sure there's a large demographic.
- 27:14Speaker 13: Everybody who's seen this movie.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I'm just talking, once you get.
- 27:17Speaker 8: Because that's the guy who was here earlier, who came
- 27:20Speaker 8: to the show.
- 27:20Speaker 1: He was like, Yeah, it was about ten minutes in,
- 27:23Speaker 1: and I was like, they're just ripping off King Kong.
- 27:26Speaker 13: Oh, yeah.
- 27:26Speaker 8: This is the year after the Dino version of King
- 27:30Speaker 8: Kong came out, and it's really, really obvious.
- 27:34Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 8: There's so much of it stolen from that, and then, like,
- 27:38Speaker 8: not the good stuff. Because at least, and that's what
- 27:41Speaker 8: made me think of it, because I'm like, At least
- 27:43Speaker 8: in King Kong, they chain him up. Now, granted, we
- 27:45Speaker 8: all know those chains aren't going to hold him, but
- 27:47Speaker 8: there's some sort of them pretending like, oh, he's under control.
- 27:51Speaker 8: He's not going to rampage the city. we're here like
- 27:54Speaker 8: they bring him that second time they open the door.
- 27:56Speaker 6: He's just they let him jump out yeah and that
- 28:02Speaker 6: was the.
- 28:02Speaker 13: Thing that sort of confounded me i thought okay when
- 28:04Speaker 13: i saw at the beginning he breaks out and he
- 28:06Speaker 13: starts attacking the crowd i was like okay this is
- 28:08Speaker 13: going to the king kong thing but we're going to
- 28:10Speaker 13: get that out of the way in the first 20
- 28:12Speaker 13: minutes and then we'll move on to something original it's
- 28:14Speaker 13: like no we're just going to do it again an
- 28:15Speaker 13: hour from now.
- 28:16Speaker 20: Yeah it's like when we hit the reset button only
- 28:19Speaker 20: instead of like the mountains it was just in what
- 28:21Speaker 20: was like montreal.
- 28:22Speaker 22: Or someplace toronto italy italy yeah italy what am i
- 28:28Speaker 22: yeah of course it wasn't it was all in italy
- 28:30Speaker 22: they have a lot of canadian flags though and they
- 28:32Speaker 22: had kids in toronto.
- 28:34Speaker 6: Blue jays hats there you go shot that scene one
- 28:37Speaker 6: day that's.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Real they have blue jay hats and they're holding the
- 28:41Speaker 1: sign that says like yay yeti or whatever that was
- 28:43Speaker 1: yeah i i don't.
- 28:46Speaker 13: God, I mean, this movie's editing was so damn surreal.
- 28:50Speaker 13: It just kept... It's sloppy?
- 28:52Speaker 20: I've seen times where people were cut off mid-sentence to
- 28:55Speaker 20: just show.
- 28:56Speaker 1: It like they're talking and then there's just a car
- 28:59Speaker 1: flying towards the screen. I was like, what? I was talking.
- 29:02Speaker 1: What was he trying to say?
- 29:03Speaker 13: The movie reminds me of most dreams I've had where
- 29:07Speaker 13: it's like.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I remember these fragments.
- 29:12Speaker 13: And there's like connections between the fragments, but they're loose.
- 29:16Speaker 13: It's like there is some sort of running theme. It's
- 29:18Speaker 13: like I don't know how I got from this point
- 29:20Speaker 13: to this point. It's like I was inside of this
- 29:22Speaker 13: building at nighttime in my dream, and the next thing
- 29:25Speaker 13: I know I'm on the road and it's daytime, but
- 29:27Speaker 13: it's still the same dream.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And you're in the mountains. And I'm in the mountains.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And all of a sudden the girl's walking down the street. Yeah, exactly.
- 29:35Speaker 13: Like a zombie. And the dog has managed to travel
- 29:39Speaker 13: 20 miles. to the outskirts of the city at the
- 29:41Speaker 13: same speed as the police to get there to show
- 29:44Speaker 13: you that it did not die.
- 29:46Speaker 1: It's still bloody, though. That was attention to detail there.
- 29:50Speaker 1: That was wonderful.
- 29:52Speaker 13: Just back and forth.
- 29:53Speaker 1: It went on for so long. That's one thing that.
- 29:56Speaker 20: The Dino version didn't have was just about 50 non-sequitur
- 30:01Speaker 20: shots to a dog.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I like that we would do that.
- 30:06Speaker 20: At some point, I don't even know if he was
- 30:07Speaker 20: written into the story, but maybe in the editing room.
- 30:09Speaker 1: He was like, you know, I filmed a lot of
- 30:11Speaker 1: this dog. I need to work him into the story.
- 30:14Speaker 20: So they went back and made shots where the dog
- 30:16Speaker 20: gets stabbed and he comes back and there's this whole
- 30:18Speaker 20: B story with the dog and shows up at the
- 30:21Speaker 20: very last shot.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Or maybe he was.
- 30:23Speaker 13: Trying to make some sort of art film out of it.
- 30:25Speaker 13: It's not the Yeti's story. It's not anyone's story. It's
- 30:28Speaker 13: the dog's story.
- 30:28Speaker 1: It's all about the dog.
- 30:30Speaker 8: Well, I mean, I do like that it would go
- 30:32Speaker 8: through the reaction shot of the crowds and then just
- 30:34Speaker 8: the reaction shot of the dog.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Just the dog.
- 30:37Speaker 6: Just the dog. Do you think they had a backup plan? Like, okay,
- 30:40Speaker 6: if this whole Yeti thing falls through, we've got a good.
- 30:43Speaker 13: Lassie.
- 30:43Speaker 3: A good Lassie Yeti.
- 30:47Speaker 15: Right?
- 30:47Speaker 13: We have no women putting on their glasses and looking shocked.
- 30:50Speaker 13: And you have other people running in panic and just
- 30:52Speaker 13: catching the dog.
- 30:52Speaker 1: It's like, I'm happy. I'm happy.
- 30:54Speaker 20: You can just see the movie as like either a
- 30:56Speaker 20: Yeti monster movie or a really long Lassie episode that's
- 30:59Speaker 20: really weird and it just, they have, the dog has,
- 31:02Speaker 20: Lassie has to save his owners from this giant monster.
- 31:06Speaker 20: That was, I mean, that one moment when the dog
- 31:09Speaker 20: runs back to get the doctor or scientist And, like, when.
- 31:13Speaker 1: He's just barking at him, and they're like, what is it, girl?
- 31:16Speaker 20: And there's, like, five seconds where the scientist is, like, trying,
- 31:19Speaker 20: and he's like, what, okay, what?
- 31:20Speaker 1: No, I don't understand what you're saying.
- 31:22Speaker 12: It was like he was speaking in a different dialect,
- 31:25Speaker 12: and then all of a sudden he's like, oh!
- 31:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And it's like, what is it, girl? Yeti
- 31:30Speaker 1: fell down the well. Lead us there. Yeah.
- 31:33Speaker 13: Suddenly he just, he keeps looking at the dog, and
- 31:35Speaker 13: all of a sudden his vision pans about two feet
- 31:37Speaker 13: over to the right, and he just says, like, oh, wait,
- 31:40Speaker 13: there's a foot there a giant foot.
- 31:43Speaker 12: The yeti ran through the lake to throw us off
- 31:46Speaker 12: the trail oh we would have never known if the
- 31:49Speaker 12: dog hadn't led us to.
- 31:50Speaker 6: The giant he's a hundred feet tall we can't find him.
- 31:54Speaker 8: We can't spot him over that mountain over there but
- 31:57Speaker 8: he he ditched us.
- 31:58Speaker 13: I was just like later on when they lose him in.
- 32:01Speaker 20: The city it's like Because he's not quite tall enough
- 32:07Speaker 20: to be too.
- 32:09Speaker 1: He can hide behind a building and everyone will be like, wait,
- 32:12Speaker 1: where'd he go?
- 32:13Speaker 20: This shit goes back to normal in the city and
- 32:14Speaker 20: I guess he went away. And he comes back in
- 32:17Speaker 20: that shot where people are just walking and he just
- 32:20Speaker 20: pops out from.
- 32:20Speaker 3: Behind the building like, hello?
- 32:23Speaker 1: There's no noise. No one hears him coming. Like, he
- 32:25Speaker 1: just sneaks up behind him. He sneaks up behind him.
- 32:28Speaker 1: How many people does he surprise? Like, all the different kinds?
- 32:32Speaker 1: Here he is. I mean, even the kids, when they're
- 32:35Speaker 1: just like, shh, he's going to get, and he's just there.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I'm like, they're in a valley. I'm like, you didn't
- 32:40Speaker 1: see him?
- 32:41Speaker 12: Well, and not only that, I mean, you'd think they
- 32:43Speaker 12: would hear him, because did anybody else notice how it
- 32:45Speaker 12: sounded like every time the Yeti walked, he was like,
- 32:48Speaker 12: in a Western wearing cowboy boots. Like I was sitting
- 32:53Speaker 12: there going, wait, isn't he in the mountains? Like, why
- 32:55Speaker 12: does this sound like, you know, there should be like
- 32:57Speaker 12: a player piano.
- 32:59Speaker 20: Maybe the actor just had boots on. He just didn't
- 33:01Speaker 20: feel like taking them off or something.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Or maybe there wasn't, there.
- 33:04Speaker 20: Wasn't, they couldn't afford any costume below like his shins.
- 33:07Speaker 20: I keep it all like the face you know the
- 33:09Speaker 20: expressions well.
- 33:10Speaker 8: I mean the giant version they had only went up
- 33:13Speaker 8: to the shin so they had to balance it out
- 33:15Speaker 8: somehow like we're just not going to shoot him from
- 33:17Speaker 8: the shins down.
- 33:18Speaker 6: That's right I had this little wish going on the
- 33:22Speaker 6: entire film thinking that if I could somehow you know
- 33:26Speaker 6: recreate it in real world if I could make that
- 33:30Speaker 6: take the reins if I could make that Charlton Heston
- 33:33Speaker 6: in that Yeti suit it would make it so much
- 33:36Speaker 6: better For some reason, I kept envisioning him being Charlton Heston.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I think it might have been some of the switch.
- 33:44Speaker 6: He had that way that he could switch from like
- 33:48Speaker 6: a joy or innocent joy that he's looking on something
- 33:52Speaker 6: and all of a sudden just be upset.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I see that he is now indeed a damn dirty ape.
- 33:58Speaker 1: It's like, ah.
- 34:00Speaker 13: Now, see, if you're gonna go, like, really expressive, I
- 34:03Speaker 13: would go Kirk Douglas over Charlton Heston.
- 34:07Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 34:08Speaker 1: That would be good. Go as classy as you can
- 34:11Speaker 1: with it, man. Yeah, that guy. His face. God knows
- 34:15Speaker 1: this movie needs it. His face.
- 34:17Speaker 8: Like, you cannot describe the looking at his face.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Like, it's so amazing.
- 34:25Speaker 8: And horrifying and traumatizing all at the same time, really.
- 34:30Speaker 1: It's That guy's face. I don't know what.
- 34:33Speaker 8: And I believe I read that just before this, he
- 34:37Speaker 8: was just in.
- 34:38Speaker 1: That like super major budget, like mainstream Jesus of Nazareth miniseries. And, like,
- 34:44Speaker 1: he came to Yeti.
- 34:46Speaker 9: We were.
- 34:48Speaker 13: Talking about it. It's like, he looks like Jesus.
- 34:52Speaker 1: He's a really big Jesus. That's so great to know that.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I'm not sure he was Jesus.
- 34:56Speaker 13: Do not destroy that illusion.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I'm not even going to say it. We aren't going
- 35:00Speaker 1: to watch the series.
- 35:01Speaker 13: We're not even going to look it up on IMDB.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he's totally Jesus.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Yeah, many times you said, yeah, look, it's Harry Jesus.
- 35:11Speaker 13: Jesus was a Yeti. Oh, it makes so much sense now.
- 35:14Speaker 8: It explains the symbolic Christ figure pose.
- 35:17Speaker 6: And he even had the gunshot stigmata in his hand.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And remember the scene in Jesus and Nazareth
- 35:25Speaker 1: when he licked it?
- 35:26Speaker 11: Remember?
- 35:26Speaker 1: And he healed the.
- 35:27Speaker 11: Dog, too.
- 35:28Speaker 1: That's why the dog came back. Exactly. The dog's like Lazarus.
- 35:32Speaker 1: The whole thing is an allegory. It's like him being
- 35:34Speaker 1: at one with nature. I think I see that. And
- 35:38Speaker 1: he fed them fish. Oh my gosh.
- 35:42Speaker 10: What?
- 35:43Speaker 1: It's so perfect. You kids go forth and be a
- 35:45Speaker 1: fisher of yetis.
- 35:46Speaker 13: Which I guess that makes the Honeycutt character kind of
- 35:49Speaker 13: like the Pontius Pilate. He sort of fits it. Was
- 35:54Speaker 13: it Howard Honeycutt? Was that his name?
- 35:57Speaker 1: I think so, yes.
- 36:00Speaker 13: I was like, Are they going for Howard Hughes? Are
- 36:02Speaker 13: they seriously having this crazy rich eccentric who has all
- 36:06Speaker 13: this money and does all these bizarre things in his HH?
- 36:10Speaker 1: It's pretty fitting, I suppose.
- 36:13Speaker 20: And the boyfriend could be Judas. Although he doesn't betray
- 36:18Speaker 20: the Yeti. He sort of betrays the Yeti.
- 36:20Speaker 1: He betrays his girlfriend, which is basically betraying the Yeti.
- 36:22Speaker 1: He's a dick to everybody. How about that?
- 36:24Speaker 10: He's a dick.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:26Speaker 13: See, you were able to follow the plot more than
- 36:28Speaker 13: I could. I was like, okay, I know that Baron
- 36:30Speaker 13: Harkonnen here, he's the benevolent rich guy who doesn't really
- 36:35Speaker 13: know what's going on, but I don't really know what's
- 36:37Speaker 13: going on either. Somebody's betraying him, and something's happening.
- 36:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't understand the whole vote, and he's the
- 36:45Speaker 6: new president of a new corporation.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Why was that necessary?
- 36:48Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 1: The intricacies of this plot.
- 36:53Speaker 13: That was the point where I did lean over to
- 36:55Speaker 13: Greg and I was like, I feel like something's happened.
- 36:58Speaker 13: I don't know what, but something is happening in this movie.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Well, that's about when it kicked in. You can go
- 37:03Speaker 1: ahead and tell them what we put in the spaghetti now.
- 37:07Speaker 8: It took a little while into the movie before it
- 37:08Speaker 8: kicked in, but yeah, you started seeing.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Anyway, never mind.
- 37:12Speaker 13: We're slipping drugs into our straight bagels.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Straight bagels.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 38:10Speaker 20: I have to say, this movie had one of the
- 38:13Speaker 20: most amazing monster death-like kills.
- 38:18Speaker 1: In any movie I've ever seen. And you know what
- 38:22Speaker 1: I'm talking about?
- 38:23Speaker 20: What happened was this guy, when he's stepping on this guy,
- 38:27Speaker 20: you're like, oh, he's going to squash him.
- 38:28Speaker 1: It's like, no, he raises his foot up. And the
- 38:31Speaker 1: guy's like, oh, no, he's not going to kill me.
- 38:33Speaker 1: He's like, maybe he's turned nice again.
- 38:36Speaker 12: Doesn't he even thank him?
- 38:38Speaker 1: He's like, thank you.
- 38:38Speaker 13: I think he does.
- 38:39Speaker 1: He kind of thanks him. He's like, thank you.
- 38:40Speaker 20: And the foot is raised at his waist. And suddenly
- 38:45Speaker 20: when you think, you know, nothing's going to happen, like
- 38:46Speaker 20: the foot just like jabs forward. And he strangles the
- 38:49Speaker 20: guy using his big toe and his middle toe.
- 38:54Speaker 1: It's so great.
- 38:55Speaker 8: Usually I just do this move to pick up my
- 38:57Speaker 8: car keys, but this time it was such a brilliant
- 39:00Speaker 8: fake out.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Like the timing of it was just like, oh shit, no,
- 39:03Speaker 1: you thought I was going to.
- 39:04Speaker 6: I think the reason why they did that is like, okay,
- 39:07Speaker 6: we've got the foot. It really can't move. We can't
- 39:09Speaker 6: squash because we can't do that mess on the floor.
- 39:12Speaker 6: It's not going to... We can't pull that off. But
- 39:15Speaker 6: he could pretend like his neck's broken.
- 39:16Speaker 20: He really had to arrange his neck so it slid into.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Not go left or right.
- 39:24Speaker 8: Imagine assuming you didn't watch this, which that's your own fault, really.
- 39:27Speaker 8: But a giant paper machine... foot coming down the gutter.
- 39:32Speaker 8: Because it's not quite the King Kong foot that looked
- 39:36Speaker 8: relatively good.
- 39:37Speaker 1: These were a little.
- 39:39Speaker 11: Granted, they.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Had a much smaller budget, I'm assuming, but yeah.
- 39:43Speaker 13: See, I kind of wonder how much people saw of
- 39:47Speaker 13: the monster.
- 39:49Speaker 13: The premiere.
- 39:50Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Because... Because he was a ghost? I'm trying to remember, yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 13: I'm trying to remember the name of the main actor
- 39:56Speaker 13: in The Giant Claw, if you've ever seen that film
- 39:59Speaker 13: before or not. But I want to say it was
- 40:02Speaker 13: Forrest Tucker, but it might not have been. But anyway,
- 40:05Speaker 13: I just read this story to where apparently the first
- 40:07Speaker 13: time that all the main cast saw The Giant Claw itself,
- 40:11Speaker 13: I mean, it was supposed to be basically this giant
- 40:13Speaker 13: radioactive bird that came out of this interdimensional portal and
- 40:18Speaker 13: is just like picking up trains, eating people left to right,
- 40:21Speaker 13: and when you see it, it's like a Muppet on acid.
- 40:25Speaker 13: It's the most absurd, laughable thing, and apparently when it
- 40:29Speaker 13: first appeared on the screen, the audience at this premiere
- 40:32Speaker 13: started laughing, and the main cast walked.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Out of the premiere.
- 40:35Speaker 13: They never saw the end of it.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 40:38Speaker 13: And I just wondered if something similar was the case
- 40:40Speaker 13: where they saw it, and they're like, that's what we
- 40:43Speaker 13: were reacting to?
- 40:45Speaker 17: That?
- 40:46Speaker 8: Well, again, the special effects on this, the The laying
- 40:51Speaker 8: of his image into the scene is, again, not quite perfect.
- 40:56Speaker 13: No, since he's transparent half the time.
- 40:58Speaker 1: He's the ghost of Yeti.
- 40:59Speaker 6: A truck drives through his foot.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Well, people walk through his foot quite often, actually, in
- 41:05Speaker 1: those distant shots. But it wasn't just.
- 41:08Speaker 8: You also get that weird glow around him, which, again,
- 41:10Speaker 8: maybe just because he's Jesus.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 41:12Speaker 8: But that weird glow that they can't quite get rid
- 41:15Speaker 8: of when they're putting in the special effect.
- 41:17Speaker 17: But.
- 41:18Speaker 1: The other, like, it's not just him.
- 41:20Speaker 8: Like, what killed me was, like, the layering of shots of, like, just, like,
- 41:24Speaker 8: the kids and the city and, like.
- 41:26Speaker 1: It looked like they were hovering. Yeah. It looks like
- 41:31Speaker 1: you're in front of a green screen, but they didn't
- 41:32Speaker 1: have that in 1977. So what the... Why couldn't you
- 41:36Speaker 1: just go and shoot these shots with people in it? Like,
- 41:39Speaker 1: why they had to.
- 41:40Speaker 8: piece together three separate shots of different things and have
- 41:44Speaker 8: them all look like they're.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Looking at the wrong thing and reacting wrong. It's so
- 41:49Speaker 1: weird the way they lay out.
- 41:50Speaker 8: In the middle, there's a whole run of them when
- 41:52Speaker 8: they have that big triumphant return to the city shot.
- 41:55Speaker 21: There was one of those that really weirded me out
- 41:57Speaker 21: because I had that too, but then in the last one,
- 41:59Speaker 21: one of the people from the background ran out into
- 42:01Speaker 21: the foreground.
- 42:05Speaker 1: That just got really weird. I don't know.
- 42:08Speaker 12: Did you all notice, like, before he was fully thawed, like,
- 42:12Speaker 12: the image of his face kind of looked like the
- 42:14Speaker 12: Shroud of Turin.
- 42:14Speaker 20: I was just sitting there going, that, is it just me?
- 42:21Speaker 1: And, like, they kept going back to that shot, and I.
- 42:24Speaker 12: Was just like, that looks kind of like Jesus.
- 42:27Speaker 1: In a way. It's all coming back around.
- 42:30Speaker 13: Yeah, it really is.
- 42:31Speaker 6: And they even did, the strings came in when you
- 42:33Speaker 6: could first see the Shroud of Turin Jesus face.
- 42:36Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 42:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I was like, what are they going for here?
- 42:39Speaker 8: Before he started melting, that's not how you described him, Ben.
- 42:43Speaker 1: What was... When he was standing there at the beginning.
- 42:47Speaker 20: What?
- 42:47Speaker 1: A melted G.I.
- 42:48Speaker 8: Joe.
- 42:48Speaker 20: Oh, yeah.
- 42:48Speaker 1: No, it was a G.I. It looked just like a
- 42:50Speaker 1: melted G.I. Joe. When they were... He was, like, still
- 42:54Speaker 1: on the ice, and they kept cutting to him like
- 42:56Speaker 1: he was hanging from the crane. It's like, once we
- 42:58Speaker 1: unfreeze him... And just, like, I was just shot. It
- 43:01Speaker 1: was melted plastic something. It was just... It was totally... Like,
- 43:08Speaker 1: it wasn't... It clearly wasn't ice. It was, like, all white.
- 43:11Speaker 1: You know, it didn't... Really frozen ice.
- 43:14Speaker 13: You need to Jeff Goldblum in there at that moment.
- 43:17Speaker 13: Just because you can doesn't mean that you should.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Must go faster.
- 43:23Speaker 4: Must go.
- 43:24Speaker 1: That was later in the movie.
- 43:26Speaker 20: I mean, I did get kind of a Jurassic Park
- 43:28Speaker 20: vibe from, like, when they're using the flamethrowers at the beginning,
- 43:31Speaker 20: and it's like, ooh.
- 43:32Speaker 8: I mean.
- 43:33Speaker 13: Watching it early on, I was like, I feel like
- 43:36Speaker 13: this movie, it has a lot of heart. They're trying
- 43:37Speaker 13: to do the best they can with what they got.
- 43:39Speaker 13: But then about halfway through, I just feel like somebody
- 43:42Speaker 13: just threw their hands up and said, fuck it, we
- 43:43Speaker 13: just got to finish this thing.
- 43:45Speaker 1: We've got a bunch of footage of cars driving. Your
- 43:49Speaker 1: daytime is supposed to be night?
- 43:51Speaker 6: Who cares?
- 43:53Speaker 13: What are we going to do with all the stock
- 43:54Speaker 13: footage of Toronto? Who cares?
- 43:57Speaker 20: Literally, the opening shot is someone with their fucking Super
- 44:01Speaker 20: 8 camera or whatever.
- 44:02Speaker 1: At the top of some built.
- 44:04Speaker 20: Like skyscraper in Toronto, like looking through the windows, you
- 44:07Speaker 20: can see the handlebars of like outside the windows and
- 44:10Speaker 20: you're just moving from window to.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It's so like badly done. It's like a tourist like video.
- 44:16Speaker 13: Greg was always watching. I was like, it reminded me
- 44:18Speaker 13: of the scene in Ed Wood where he goes to
- 44:20Speaker 13: the film depot. He's like, Oh, I could make a
- 44:21Speaker 13: whole film out of stock footage.
- 44:24Speaker 8: And he's just stops and thinks I could make a whole.
- 44:28Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 44:32Speaker 13: Oh, wow.
- 44:32Speaker 21: That scene where he's climbing down the building and smashing
- 44:35Speaker 21: all the windows down.
- 44:35Speaker 20: That was kind of a brilliant set piece. It was, like,
- 44:38Speaker 20: horribly put together, but the idea of it, like, it's
- 44:42Speaker 20: an awesome set piece. Like, oh, wow, like, she's hanging
- 44:45Speaker 20: on the elevator. He's trying to reach her, and all
- 44:46Speaker 20: the people get off, and he can't grab her because
- 44:49Speaker 20: the elevator falls down, and she's hanging on for dear life.
- 44:51Speaker 1: So he, like.
- 44:52Speaker 20: climbs down the building, like, smashing every window with his
- 44:55Speaker 20: foot as he's climbing down.
- 44:56Speaker 6: Intentionally.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Intentionally. Because it's fun. I mean, come on. We'd all
- 45:01Speaker 1: do that if we were giant.
- 45:02Speaker 6: And all those shots of the, you know, apartment complex.
- 45:06Speaker 13: That the all-time million-dollar corporation is at the top of.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Yeah, people just live there, too. It's, like, in one room.
- 45:14Speaker 8: Actually, I like that shot, like watching it from inside
- 45:18Speaker 8: their house as we know the foot's coming.
- 45:20Speaker 13: I mean, what a very drab apartment complex to where,
- 45:28Speaker 13: I mean, really the setup of. Every apartment was exactly
- 45:31Speaker 13: the same, the same curtain. It's like a really one
- 45:33Speaker 13: big room.
- 45:34Speaker 1: It's like a one-room apartment. Actually, no, maybe it's just
- 45:37Speaker 1: a hotel.
- 45:38Speaker 13: That would make more sense.
- 45:39Speaker 6: But they're having dinner in a hotel room.
- 45:42Speaker 1: He ordered in. Yeah, but he had a dinner table.
- 45:45Speaker 1: He ordered that, too. It's a really fancy hotel. That's
- 45:48Speaker 1: how they do it in Canada. That's our fallback. For
- 45:50Speaker 1: the Yeti to climb down.
- 45:51Speaker 13: 32 stories to catch her at the bottom instead of
- 45:59Speaker 13: climbing down just a couple and then reaching.
- 46:01Speaker 12: Over i didn't quite see how that that worked if we.
- 46:07Speaker 8: Want to go into that part of the story like
- 46:10Speaker 8: why did he yank the elevator shaft i mean like
- 46:13Speaker 8: first of all why did he even pay attention to
- 46:15Speaker 8: that elevator specifically the one she was in ironically enough
- 46:19Speaker 8: but like i don't know It's not like, again, we're
- 46:23Speaker 8: knocking off King Kong. It's not like in King Kong
- 46:25Speaker 8: when there's a giant train going by and he sees
- 46:27Speaker 8: it and reacts to it and it kind of pisses
- 46:30Speaker 8: him off that it's going by.
- 46:31Speaker 1: But, like, he wouldn't see an elevator inside of a building.
- 46:35Speaker 1: He doesn't know how an elevator works.
- 46:36Speaker 14: No.
- 46:37Speaker 1: And he's, like, reaching down in. It's not like it
- 46:39Speaker 1: was up there. It's not even like it was a
- 46:40Speaker 1: glass elevator. It's like he's trying to get the chips
- 46:43Speaker 1: in a Pringles can. Yeah, he's shoving it in his arm.
- 46:46Speaker 1: How do I get these people out?
- 46:48Speaker 6: It's frustrating.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Yeah. He's beating them up. That's what it is. Dude,
- 46:53Speaker 1: you just got to poop it up and pour it around.
- 46:55Speaker 13: There's no whole people in here anymore. It's just crumbly.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Broken bits of people. Sometimes you just got to let
- 47:00Speaker 1: the last pringle go. There's like three.
- 47:02Speaker 13: Whole people in this elevator and just a bunch of
- 47:04Speaker 13: broken bits of people.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Happens every time I get in an elevator. Sometimes you
- 47:09Speaker 1: got to let the last pringle go, man. Oh, Lord. Yeah,
- 47:14Speaker 1: and that.
- 47:16Speaker 6: She fell 32 stories and landed.
- 47:20Speaker 1: On his head. We know it's 32. Because we see.
- 47:24Speaker 1: I thought that was a touch of realism there. She
- 47:26Speaker 1: grabbed your neck. Obviously, it was a rough fall. Also,
- 47:32Speaker 1: an old lady, I'm pretty sure, got sent to the hospital.
- 47:36Speaker 1: After that scene was filmed.
- 47:38Speaker 20: After that crowd just pulverized her climbing out of the elevator.
- 47:48Speaker 1: That was the.
- 47:53Speaker 8: Best part was watching that because there were several people
- 47:55Speaker 8: that just totally screwed over.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Again, it's just realism, really. Because, yeah, there's the guy
- 48:01Speaker 1: that shoved the old lady out of the way.
- 48:03Speaker 8: And then by the last guy that was in there
- 48:05Speaker 8: that shoved our heroine out of the way, just, like,
- 48:07Speaker 8: about kicked her in the face. And I'm like, this
- 48:10Speaker 8: is how it would really work if a giant creature
- 48:13Speaker 8: was attacking the elevator.
- 48:14Speaker 20: In any, like, regular movie with, like, an actual budget, like,
- 48:19Speaker 20: the set for the elevator, that would be a set.
- 48:22Speaker 20: It wouldn't be putting a bunch of people on a
- 48:24Speaker 20: real elevator and making them climb out.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Like, that's totally safe. We'll let them do that. Tell
- 48:33Speaker 1: everyone goodbye. Alan's leaving. I'm leaving. Good night. Good night
- 48:36Speaker 1: to everybody. Good night. Bye. Hope you don't get your
- 48:40Speaker 1: neck broke by a giant creature on the way home.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Their toe. He only kills people he hates, which is
- 48:45Speaker 1: not very many of them. That's true. He likes most people.
- 48:47Speaker 13: Kiss the Yeti ice sculpture on your way.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Don't forget your Yeti Bakteen in case you need it.
- 48:53Speaker 13: Yeah, that was a really big fan.
- 48:56Speaker 1: What was it?
- 48:58Speaker 12: It couldn't have been Bakteen because that's a berms.
- 49:02Speaker 1: That would have pissed me off. He was making out
- 49:05Speaker 1: with the ice cold. That's hot. That was amazing. He
- 49:10Speaker 1: just melted. He's like, oh my god. That was so hot.
- 49:17Speaker 8: Yeah, Bo earlier decided to make out with the ice cold.
- 49:20Speaker 8: and now I guess it's become a thing.
- 49:22Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 49:23Speaker 13: We all have to when we leave.
- 49:24Speaker 6: Well, kissing that would be like kissing Alan now.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Because he was all up on it.
- 49:29Speaker 6: He left his part, right? He got a piece while
- 49:31Speaker 6: he was at it.
- 49:32Speaker 1: I feel like that's some kind of Icelandic ritual.
- 49:35Speaker 20: Before they leave, like their meet hall or whatever, they
- 49:37Speaker 20: have to make out with The Yeti ice sculpture, or else,
- 49:42Speaker 20: you know, he'll come and kill you.
- 49:44Speaker 13: Yeah, can we throw a question out to the viewers?
- 49:46Speaker 13: Are we allowed to do that?
- 49:47Speaker 1: Go for it.
- 49:48Speaker 13: All right, so Ben and I were trying to remember earlier.
- 49:51Speaker 13: We were making the comment, when the ice sculpture of
- 49:54Speaker 13: the Yeti melts, then the Yeti spaghetti party will be over.
- 50:00Speaker 13: And he was trying to say, well, what particular, like,
- 50:02Speaker 13: ceremony is that? And I was saying, I was pretty
- 50:03Speaker 13: sure that's in a film tour. It's mentioned within the
- 50:06Speaker 13: film that they have, like, some sort of ice sculpture
- 50:08Speaker 13: at this party within a movie, and when it melts,
- 50:12Speaker 13: then the party is over. So, see if any savvy
- 50:15Speaker 13: viewers can post and say what it is.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Do you have the answer, or you need the answer? Mm-hmm.
- 50:22Speaker 13: I don't have these.
- 50:23Speaker 23: You said you had an idea, and I don't think
- 50:26Speaker 23: it's from.
- 50:27Speaker 13: You don't think it's from Melancholia?
- 50:29Speaker 1: I don't think it is either.
- 50:31Speaker 13: It's from some sort of film, though.
- 50:34Speaker 6: I just watched that, and I don't remember.
- 50:36Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 50:36Speaker 13: I feel like it's something recent.
- 50:38Speaker 1: It feels like something that Roman Polanski did. No, maybe
- 50:41Speaker 1: I don't. Oh, is it?
- 50:45Speaker 16: No.
- 50:45Speaker 13: Well, no.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Is it the Red Riding Trilogy? No, it's not. Okay,
- 50:51Speaker 1: forget it.
- 50:52Speaker 13: Sorry.
- 50:53Speaker 1: That's not where it's from. Because no one here has
- 50:55Speaker 1: clearly seen that.
- 50:57Speaker 17: No.
- 50:58Speaker 13: Okay.
- 50:59Speaker 5: No.
- 50:59Speaker 1: I'll probably think of it like once I live.
- 51:02Speaker 13: Maybe it's from Gremlins 2, the new batch. I mean,
- 51:04Speaker 13: that's usually my default to go to.
- 51:05Speaker 20: I feel like every time we record, there's some awesome
- 51:08Speaker 20: instance where we just always go back to Gremlins 2.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Like, that's the one. It all goes down to us.
- 51:14Speaker 13: It's my fault. Which, actually, this was like Gremlins 2,
- 51:18Speaker 13: the new batch, to where you have chaos breaking out
- 51:20Speaker 13: in a large skyscraper in a downtown metropolitan area.
- 51:25Speaker 6: But you don't get the Yeti to do a cute
- 51:27Speaker 6: dance like you do in Gremlins 2.
- 51:30Speaker 13: Which is a shame. I guess maybe if he danced,
- 51:33Speaker 13: he would have been revealing too much since they went
- 51:35Speaker 13: to great lengths to hide the Yeti genitalia with, like,
- 51:39Speaker 13: extra long fur.
- 51:40Speaker 1: That's why the ladies were putting on their glasses.
- 51:42Speaker 13: Yeah, they were.
- 51:43Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 51:43Speaker 1: They were checking it out. Don't want to miss this.
- 51:46Speaker 20: That one woman made, you know, made sure that she
- 51:49Speaker 20: ran underneath, like, in between his legs.
- 51:51Speaker 13: I was just like, ooh, Mabel, look at that.
- 51:55Speaker 1: That's what I was like when the kid did it earlier.
- 51:58Speaker 1: I was like, don't you know not to run under
- 52:01Speaker 1: a Yeti? That seems like a pretty basic rule. Don't
- 52:05Speaker 1: walk underneath your Yeti.
- 52:06Speaker 13: I want to see a King Kong movie to where
- 52:09Speaker 13: he's just pooping.
- 52:12Speaker 1: He's got it. He sees all over Manhattan.
- 52:15Speaker 13: Exactly.
- 52:15Speaker 1: He just throws his poop at them. Behaving like an actual.
- 52:18Speaker 8: You know.
- 52:20Speaker 1: You have special criteria for your films, don't you? Literally,
- 52:24Speaker 1: I do. You know, a highbrow. Right here. Well, again,
- 52:29Speaker 1: when we get to the, like, going back to the city.
- 52:33Speaker 8: The second time, the Yeti fever that takes over.
- 52:40Speaker 13: It cuts to them saying, we'll get him to follow
- 52:42Speaker 13: us back to the container. All of a sudden, it's like,
- 52:44Speaker 13: Yeti gas!
- 52:45Speaker 1: We've got to get some Yeti gas! That's sold out!
- 52:48Speaker 1: That was so disturbing.
- 52:49Speaker 12: It was like, put some Yeti in your tank.
- 52:50Speaker 1: And I was like, no, thank you.
- 52:51Speaker 24: That sounds like code.
- 52:53Speaker 1: I know.
- 52:54Speaker 13: They didn't even have the Yeti in Toronto at the time.
- 52:57Speaker 13: It's just like. They just happened to choose a Yeti
- 53:01Speaker 13: as their character.
- 53:02Speaker 1: It was Yeti for her.
- 53:05Speaker 13: Right.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I mean, otherwise, that girl wouldn't have been wearing that shirt.
- 53:09Speaker 1: She wouldn't have been making out with a random guy.
- 53:11Speaker 1: The shirt was awesome, by the way. Yeah, why aren't
- 53:13Speaker 1: they selling those now? And we should have had them here.
- 53:15Speaker 13: That's what Gary said. As soon as I was looking
- 53:17Speaker 13: at it, I was like, man, we could have almost
- 53:20Speaker 13: got away with that. Like, had the Yeti hands and
- 53:21Speaker 13: then the spaghetti.
- 53:23Speaker 17: But why?
- 53:24Speaker 1: What does Yeti hands over women.
- 53:26Speaker 6: Blue Yeti hands over women's breasts have anything to do
- 53:29Speaker 6: with the.
- 53:29Speaker 1: I didn't get it. He comes from colds, blues... No,
- 53:33Speaker 1: it doesn't work. It just doesn't work. I'm partial to
- 53:38Speaker 1: our t-shirts, so I'm sticking with the Yeti.
- 53:40Speaker 13: I'm saying we're like the Yeti fever kids. came from
- 53:42Speaker 13: though it makes no sense within the context of the
- 53:45Speaker 13: film and.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Howard hughes was marketing i mean that other guy.
- 53:48Speaker 13: Yeah i know baron harkonnen he was marketing him he
- 53:51Speaker 13: knew at the beginning he's like i get yeti and
- 53:53Speaker 13: it's going to be everything and then sure enough he
- 53:56Speaker 13: was right as soon as they captured the yeti everyone
- 53:58Speaker 13: wanted to buy his products because he called them yeti
- 54:01Speaker 13: products because he had a yeti i mean that's really
- 54:03Speaker 13: yeah that's i mean that is the plot of it
- 54:05Speaker 13: this is ridiculous movie is this The Italian Albert Finney
- 54:10Speaker 13: is like, capture me a Yeti and I will be
- 54:13Speaker 13: able to sell anything to the people because it's Yeti.
- 54:18Speaker 6: If Disney had a Yeti, they'd certainly market it.
- 54:21Speaker 13: They did well with the mouse.
- 54:23Speaker 12: I'm just really confused. I'm so confused about the choice
- 54:25Speaker 12: of Canada. The scientist goes on on this little spiel
- 54:30Speaker 12: on what a Yeti is and how he comes from
- 54:31Speaker 12: the Himalayas. the canadian himalayas apparently.
- 54:36Speaker 6: Oh they said it somehow drifted and ended up in
- 54:39Speaker 6: newfoundland or something.
- 54:41Speaker 20: Like geography the canada thing does not make sense but
- 54:45Speaker 20: tonally it makes.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Perfect sense like it just just felt like just like
- 54:50Speaker 1: of course this movie you know we're all not taking
- 54:52Speaker 1: this but.
- 54:52Speaker 13: Actually there are a lot of films that are made
- 54:54Speaker 13: in canada now maybe this This is the one that
- 54:56Speaker 13: broke the ice, no pun intended.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Because there's just a lot of.
- 55:00Speaker 13: It set the benchmark by which all other Canadian productions
- 55:03Speaker 13: would be measured.
- 55:05Speaker 8: If we're going to question all of that, then the
- 55:10Speaker 8: major thing, along with all the.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Other nonsense up there, I was just.
- 55:14Speaker 8: When they got to Yeti Fever and the whole city
- 55:16Speaker 8: was going crazy, welcoming Yeti to his new home, they're
- 55:20Speaker 8: having the Yeti Parade... Can we talk about the heritage
- 55:24Speaker 8: dance going on?
- 55:25Speaker 1: It was carnival, wasn't it? It was carnival, yeah. Oh,
- 55:29Speaker 1: slob footage of carnival.
- 55:31Speaker 12: I was legitimately confused for a second. I was like,
- 55:33Speaker 12: because I think I looked down at my phone or
- 55:35Speaker 12: I went and got some coffee or something, and I'm like,
- 55:38Speaker 12: how the hell did they end.
- 55:39Speaker 1: Up in Brazil?
- 55:40Speaker 13: Seriously.
- 55:41Speaker 12: And then I was like, wait, or is that Toronto?
- 55:44Speaker 1: Toronto has their own.
- 55:46Speaker 6: I was like, what heritage are we?
- 55:50Speaker 1: Celebrating with this parade?
- 55:52Speaker 8: I don't think it's Canada.
- 55:54Speaker 13: I don't think it's Himalayas. Precisely my problem, because I
- 55:57Speaker 13: went outside to take a couple shots of the Yeti
- 55:59Speaker 13: ice sculpture with the movie running, and then I came
- 56:03Speaker 13: back in. I was outside for 30 seconds, and I thought, wait,
- 56:06Speaker 13: the professor's dead. And suddenly everyone's running. What is going on?
- 56:11Speaker 1: Yeah, like you can't blink.
- 56:14Speaker 13: I mean, in the last half hour of the film,
- 56:17Speaker 13: I feel like somebody said, okay, we've got to have
- 56:18Speaker 13: this under half an hour. because you know somebody had
- 56:23Speaker 13: made like a ken burns epic yeti film seven hours
- 56:27Speaker 13: of yeti and they're like god we're gonna have to
- 56:29Speaker 13: cut out so much.
- 56:31Speaker 6: Who gives a shit how to get the girl gets
- 56:33Speaker 6: in the mountain she's walking her feet are torn go.
- 56:36Speaker 25: Fourth wall fourth wall just do it like the ratio
- 56:41Speaker 25: of shots of people running from the yeti like in
- 56:44Speaker 25: panic and the actual yeti like Towards the end, we
- 56:47Speaker 25: just tipped in favor of just the running and shot,
- 56:49Speaker 25: like the people running.
- 56:51Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Like there was hardly as many shots of the Yeti.
- 56:54Speaker 13: Well, half the shots were them running up to the
- 56:57Speaker 13: Yeti in surprise, and then the other half were running
- 57:01Speaker 13: away as if somebody sees this giant thing and they
- 57:04Speaker 13: run a couple hundred feet to it like, holy shit,
- 57:06Speaker 13: I've got to get closer to see it. Look at that. fuck,
- 57:08Speaker 13: it's going to kill me.
- 57:10Speaker 1: It's so bizarre.
- 57:11Speaker 13: I mean, the bus unloads and all those people get
- 57:14Speaker 13: out of the bus and they run up to the
- 57:16Speaker 13: building and as soon as it starts climbing down, they
- 57:17Speaker 13: run back the other direction. It's just bizarre.
- 57:20Speaker 20: That shot was, what clearly happened with that was the
- 57:23Speaker 20: director told everyone on that bus to like, to every
- 57:26Speaker 20: single person, when you get out of the bus, make
- 57:27Speaker 20: sure you stop and have a, Really scary reaction shot.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Don't keep running. Every person has to stop and go, ah,
- 57:33Speaker 1: and then just keep going. Well, things that piss him off.
- 57:35Speaker 1: They didn't just race out like normal people would. I
- 57:37Speaker 1: like that they just continually, like, eh, it's okay. You
- 57:40Speaker 1: just flash on those cameras. It's fine. Like, the first time, okay,
- 57:43Speaker 1: we're stupid. We didn't know any better. But when they
- 57:45Speaker 1: bring him back.
- 57:45Speaker 8: To the city, I'm like, you know all the stuff
- 57:48Speaker 8: that pissed him.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Off last time. And then it's like, oh, wait, it
- 57:50Speaker 1: pissed him off. You should stop now. Stop it. Stop it.
- 57:52Speaker 20: No safety perimeters. Like, even after the second time, after
- 57:55Speaker 20: it just blew up in their face. They're in the
- 57:57Speaker 20: city now, you know, which is a logical place to
- 58:00Speaker 20: go after the Yeti almost kills everyone in the mountains.
- 58:03Speaker 1: And they still just don't have a fence. They don't
- 58:06Speaker 1: tell people to not take pictures.
- 58:08Speaker 13: And why are they taking so many flash pictures on
- 58:10Speaker 13: a sunny day? It's a bright, sunny day, and it's like,
- 58:15Speaker 13: we've got to take a lot of flash pictures of
- 58:17Speaker 13: this thing. Our viewers like our pictures overexposed.
- 58:23Speaker 1: I don't know why, I mean, I.
- 58:24Speaker 6: Know why they couldn't do it, because they couldn't film
- 58:27Speaker 6: in Toronto.
- 58:28Speaker 16: But why wouldn't they have, you've got a ready-made crowd
- 58:33Speaker 16: full of people at the stadium there, and I was like, oh,
- 58:37Speaker 16: they're going to land in the stadium.
- 58:38Speaker 6: And then my logic overtook, like, they can't land in
- 58:42Speaker 6: the stadium because they can't go to that stadium.
- 58:44Speaker 1: They can't get that many people for this movie.
- 58:45Speaker 6: But still, I thought, why even show it You know,
- 58:50Speaker 6: that there's a stadium there because obviously that's the safest place.
- 58:53Speaker 6: You can put them in there. Everybody, you know, it's
- 58:56Speaker 6: a big open space. Not on top of a building
- 58:59Speaker 6: where people are trapped.
- 59:00Speaker 13: Yeah, because, I mean, when they turned on the TV
- 59:02Speaker 13: in the stadium, I thought, okay, that's what it is.
- 59:04Speaker 13: They're getting ready to land there. And that's like the
- 59:06Speaker 13: broadcasting touch. Now it's like, no, everybody's just in the
- 59:08Speaker 13: stadium to watch. the footage of the Yeti go on
- 59:13Speaker 13: top of another building?
- 59:14Speaker 1: No, it's because he was there to watch the game, but.
- 59:18Speaker 8: Even the game couldn't draw him away from Yeti fever.
- 59:22Speaker 1: He had to bring the TV just to watch the
- 59:24Speaker 1: Yeti arrive.
- 59:25Speaker 8: And the game was going on, but it wasn't near
- 59:28Speaker 8: as important as the Yeti arriving.
- 59:29Speaker 13: Even though there was nobody on the field.
- 59:31Speaker 8: Even though there was nobody on the field.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I kind of wondered that too. I was like,
- 59:35Speaker 1: why is everybody all riled up? There's nothing going on
- 59:38Speaker 1: down there.
- 59:39Speaker 13: Maybe they'd originally planned to film there and even started
- 59:41Speaker 13: to shoot that. And then somebody was like, nope. We
- 59:44Speaker 13: can't do that.
- 59:46Speaker 6: Also, speaking of You know, not being there. When they
- 59:50Speaker 6: were running into the store during Yeti fever, and there's
- 59:58Speaker 6: about 15 clearly Italian boys running.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: What the hell are you saying? Canadian! But they've got
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Canadian flags. Yeah, flags. Just to show that they're Canadian.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Flags equals Canada, duh!
- 1:00:12Speaker 13: So.
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: But they're... They even have, I don't know if it's
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: dubbed or what, but it even sounds like they're still Italian.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: And where were they running? Right.
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: They got to the door and stopped.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: They were really excited about something. They wanted to see
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: the girl with blue hands.
- 1:00:30Speaker 13: I guess.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I mean, that was the next shot, but it didn't
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: really seem like, you know, it made any, oh, wait, no,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: most of this didn't make any sense. Never mind. I
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: love it.
- 1:00:39Speaker 13: His whole empire is T-shirts and gas. Yeah.
- 1:00:44Speaker 8: I'll give you, gas makes a lot of money, but t-shirts,
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: you know, I haven't been cleaning up on these, so.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: What was the sign, though?
- 1:00:50Speaker 12: It said something about Yeti strength or something? But it was, like, sideways,
- 1:00:54Speaker 12: so I couldn't ever read it.
- 1:00:55Speaker 13: No, it said, Yeti strength in your tank is something
- 1:00:58Speaker 13: like that.
- 1:00:58Speaker 12: No, there was another one, though, because it said something about, like, Yet,
- 1:01:02Speaker 12: I don't know. It didn't have to do with the gas.
- 1:01:04Speaker 8: Yeah, there was the one later that was the man
- 1:01:06Speaker 8: and woman were standing next to one.
- 1:01:08Speaker 12: Yeah, and I couldn't read what it said.
- 1:01:11Speaker 13: I think it was batteries. I think. I think it
- 1:01:13Speaker 13: was yeti strength in your batteries.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: It was some other brainwashing. I think it was just
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: sort of like they live at that point.
- 1:01:19Speaker 8: He just takes over the advertising and brainwashes everyone into
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: loving yetis.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:01:24Speaker 13: You put on the sunglasses and just yeti on everything.
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: You don't see the yeti until you've got the sunglasses on.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: And then you see that other layer of the film
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: that wasn't there. That's why he surprises everybody.
- 1:01:37Speaker 13: The women put on the glasses. That's what they're seeing.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 1:01:44Speaker 20: I love how the movie wanted to impress you with
- 1:01:49Speaker 20: a walkie-talkie.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:53Speaker 20: The guy's just like, hang on, I'll call it in.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: And the camera just zooms in as he's pulling the
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: antenna out.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: It's 48 feet of antennae.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: It's 77. That was his cell phone, man.
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: And they all have radio phones in their car.
- 1:02:06Speaker 8: Yeah, that was pretty impressive. I mean, they could talk
- 1:02:08Speaker 8: to each other in their car. In 1977, that was impressive.
- 1:02:13Speaker 12: This could have been me, like, not paying attention, but
- 1:02:15Speaker 12: do you remember, like, I think it was, like, the
- 1:02:17Speaker 12: first shot of the police?
- 1:02:18Speaker 13: They, like, pull up, and then they were like, Chief,
- 1:02:21Speaker 13: you have a phone call.
- 1:02:22Speaker 12: And he's like, they're like, the Yeti's been spotted.
- 1:02:24Speaker 13: And I'm like.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Where were they going for? Like, did I miss something there? No,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: you did not miss anything.
- 1:02:31Speaker 12: They, like, stop and get out of their cars. And
- 1:02:34Speaker 12: I was like, oh, okay, they found the Yeti. And
- 1:02:36Speaker 12: then it was like, you got a call. He spotted
- 1:02:39Speaker 12: over here.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Oh, well, we were just like running around.
- 1:02:42Speaker 8: Did you know if we turn our lights on, we
- 1:02:44Speaker 8: can go through stoplights and everything?
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: This is awesome, dude. Oh, yeah, chasing the Yeti. That's
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: what we were doing. Well, there's a lot of cop-related
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: confusion in this. First of all, the cops driving around
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: in cabs. Maybe they don't make them like that anymore
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: in Italy, Canada. I don't know, but. Yeah, it looked
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: like a cab, first off. It just had lights on top.
- 1:03:08Speaker 8: And then later, when the cops come in and find
- 1:03:11Speaker 8: the dead body and say, somebody needs to.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Call the cops.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: I didn't know what that was like.
- 1:03:17Speaker 8: It was like, we were sitting there and going, you
- 1:03:22Speaker 8: are cops.
- 1:03:22Speaker 20: That was supposed to be a joke, or they forgot
- 1:03:26Speaker 20: they were wearing cop uniforms.
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: Because they weren't, because this was someone dubbing it. That's
- 1:03:31Speaker 8: probably not even what they said in Italian, but Later,
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: they were just not even looking at the screen as
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: they're reading the script.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Somebody call the cops.
- 1:03:38Speaker 13: Yeah, it was probably in the original screenplay, it was
- 1:03:41Speaker 13: somebody else who showed up and found the bodies, but
- 1:03:44Speaker 13: then when they ended up filming it with the cops,
- 1:03:46Speaker 13: there was the mix-up, and they didn't realize that. It's
- 1:03:48Speaker 13: just so silly.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: That was one of my favorites. Somebody needs to call
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: the cops. Well, that badge makes it kind of... Never mind. No,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: that's cool.
- 1:03:58Speaker 13: Yeah, the one thing that I think this movie would
- 1:04:01Speaker 13: have been so much slower had it not been for this,
- 1:04:04Speaker 13: is just the expressions of the Yeti in and of itself.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: That guy.
- 1:04:07Speaker 13: There's no way to describe how decidedly absurd they are.
- 1:04:11Speaker 13: The whole time I was watching this, I was like, okay,
- 1:04:13Speaker 13: is this guy taking this really, really serious, or is
- 1:04:15Speaker 13: he taking it really, really... Not seriously.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right. I can't decide, really.
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: Like, thinking about all the crazy, like, sometimes he is
- 1:04:23Speaker 8: so committed to it.
- 1:04:25Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: And then other times, it seems like, I'm like, is
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: he being tongue-in-cheek? Is this funny?
- 1:04:30Speaker 10: Is this.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Is he winking at the camera? Almost, because it's
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: about that bad, some of his expressions. Yeah, sometimes he's
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: winking with both eyes.
- 1:04:37Speaker 10: Yeah, I know.
- 1:04:39Speaker 13: You're watching, it's like, man, he makes Tim Allen's acting
- 1:04:41Speaker 13: seem subtle by nature.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: To Yeti and beyond! All right, so we're skipping over
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: probably the most amazing moment in this movie.
- 1:04:51Speaker 13: There are many.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I sat there just like, I can't believe I just
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: saw that. Do we want to get to the nipple?
- 1:05:08Speaker 13: We hypothesized it was the gunshot.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: That's what I thought, too. The gunshot got hard, okay?
- 1:05:14Speaker 20: I was going to say, no, they had a prop
- 1:05:16Speaker 20: of a nipple, and it clearly was made to, like, stiffen.
- 1:05:20Speaker 13: Okay, so that's what I originally thought was, I was like,
- 1:05:23Speaker 13: did she just touch his nipple and it got a wreck?
- 1:05:25Speaker 13: She rubbed it, but... And he like grins at her.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: He gave her the look. I'm pretty sure. Rolled her
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: eyes like, oh, yetis.
- 1:05:34Speaker 17: Men.
- 1:05:34Speaker 13: They're all the same.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Yeah, she literally says like, men. They're all the same.
- 1:05:37Speaker 13: But the thing that threw me off though was like,
- 1:05:39Speaker 13: she just kind of like reached over. And again, it
- 1:05:41Speaker 13: goes back to that weird. Proportions thing.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:44Speaker 13: It's like if she just turned around based on the
- 1:05:47Speaker 13: hand that she was hitting, she would just be reaching
- 1:05:49Speaker 13: at best where the wrist is coming in contact with him.
- 1:05:53Speaker 13: But somehow she just reached over and touched his nipple,
- 1:05:55Speaker 13: which by that sizing would have been like, you know. 20,
- 1:05:58Speaker 13: 30 feet away?
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Maybe he was holding her like up to his nipple.
- 1:06:02Speaker 20: He's trying to guide her to, you know what to do.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Just put her hand close to it. Let's see what
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: she does. Yeah, he's making his move. Come on, baby,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: just touch it.
- 1:06:13Speaker 13: Just touch it once. It's like, you just keep reaching
- 1:06:16Speaker 13: in the popcorn.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: I'm just going to move the popcorn bucket out of
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: the way now. There we go.
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: Sorry, you just touched my nipple.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: The only thing that threw me off on.
- 1:06:25Speaker 13: The gunshot hypothesis was the fact that it was the
- 1:06:29Speaker 13: wrong hand. It was the gunshot. But again, like the
- 1:06:32Speaker 13: nipple thing, they were like.
- 1:06:33Speaker 8: You know, And the look he gave her was not,
- 1:06:36Speaker 8: you just touched my gunshot wound.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: I like the.
- 1:06:41Speaker 13: Way you touched my gunshot.
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: I think we were just trying not to. I was trying, okay,
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: that was the gunshot wound.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Closing your eyes and repeating it to yourself. It was
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: the gunshot wound. That nipple will come out in therapy
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: in 12 years.
- 1:07:00Speaker 13: He wouldn't have had nipples any other time, though.
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:07:04Speaker 13: He didn't need them anymore.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: That was the moment. I was just like, this movie
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: is amazing.
- 1:07:12Speaker 13: Thinking about the weird sexual attraction thing. And I suppose
- 1:07:18Speaker 13: it goes hand in hand with King Kong. King Kong,
- 1:07:20Speaker 13: I don't know why, I always just took it more
- 1:07:21Speaker 13: to where it's just an ape-like fascination. But with this
- 1:07:24Speaker 13: being more anthropomorphizing, closer to human, it's like, no, I
- 1:07:28Speaker 13: see it as less sort of an A fascination with
- 1:07:31Speaker 13: some sort of toy-like thing and more like just the
- 1:07:33Speaker 13: sexual attraction to it recognizes it's a female of a
- 1:07:36Speaker 13: similar species.
- 1:07:37Speaker 8: But.
- 1:07:58Speaker 13: It's so much smaller than you.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: It doesn't work, really.
- 1:08:03Speaker 13: I mean, that would be like, what if Barbie dolls...
- 1:08:06Speaker 13: were alive and you had somebody that was sexually.
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: Oh this is hot hold on wait i'm sure there
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: are people well.
- 1:08:15Speaker 13: I'm sure you know you think okay if that were
- 1:08:17Speaker 13: the case then there would be people but we would
- 1:08:19Speaker 13: be like let's just perverse well maybe what they did
- 1:08:22Speaker 13: was they just thought out the perverted yeti and all
- 1:08:25Speaker 13: the other ones would be normal and clearly people alone
- 1:08:28Speaker 13: like maybe the only yeti that was frozen was like
- 1:08:32Speaker 13: they're really.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Fucked up he's got issues man come on I mean,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: he might be.
- 1:08:37Speaker 13: You know, touched, so to speak. I mean, look at
- 1:08:40Speaker 13: all the expressions he makes.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: He does seem like he doesn't know what's going on. Like,
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: even more so than, I guess.
- 1:08:48Speaker 13: If he just woke up from a million years ago.
- 1:08:50Speaker 13: I don't mean special as in he's got, like, immense IQ.
- 1:08:52Speaker 13: I mean, special yeti as in since he would eat glue.
- 1:08:56Speaker 13: That would make sense.
- 1:08:58Speaker 12: He does lick his... gunshot wound i mean you know
- 1:09:02Speaker 12: yeah and.
- 1:09:03Speaker 13: He just sort of bumbles around the city doesn't know
- 1:09:05Speaker 13: how to hide.
- 1:09:06Speaker 8: Or anything yeah okay since we're talking about special what's
- 1:09:11Speaker 8: up with herbie Can we address Herbie for a minute?
- 1:09:16Speaker 13: Yeah, I like that he just shows up about halfway
- 1:09:18Speaker 13: into the film. It's not until you're in Toronto do
- 1:09:21Speaker 13: we add him to the plot. It feels, at that
- 1:09:24Speaker 13: point as I was watching, I was like, okay, it's
- 1:09:27Speaker 13: like the Gamera, well, Godzilla did that some with their films,
- 1:09:30Speaker 13: but Gamera films, they always had the little Japanese kid
- 1:09:34Speaker 13: who could help, he could speak to Gamera and calm
- 1:09:38Speaker 13: him down. I was like, that's pretty much the same gist.
- 1:09:42Speaker 13: You've got this little kid who's somehow like, reaches the
- 1:09:44Speaker 13: heart of the yeti.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: But did we ever get to like why he's like he.
- 1:09:49Speaker 8: Is what like why doesn't he speak did they address
- 1:09:52Speaker 8: that he's italian i guess.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: English i guess they never went into that yeah the
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: dog's way more interactive.
- 1:10:04Speaker 13: Does he?
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I was going to say, I think he does talk.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: I couldn't tell him what he said.
- 1:10:08Speaker 8: There's so many times when the sisters, he's yelling at
- 1:10:10Speaker 8: him and he just shakes his head and does all
- 1:10:13Speaker 8: these crazy overacting movements.
- 1:10:15Speaker 20: Yeah, when you first see him, he's just listening to
- 1:10:18Speaker 20: a radio speaker smiling. Yeah.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: And he doesn't say anything. I don't know. He's a
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: weird character.
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: Yeah, Forrest Gump's got it more together.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: Than he does. He's a little below that line.
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:10:30Speaker 13: Speaking of listening, that was something early on in the plot.
- 1:10:33Speaker 13: You've got The second in command listening to Baron Harkonnen
- 1:10:38Speaker 13: talking about how he wants to capture the Yeti. And
- 1:10:41Speaker 13: he's like at the door listening. And then he just
- 1:10:44Speaker 13: walks away and you're like, oh, that's crafty. He's eavesdropping.
- 1:10:46Speaker 13: And he goes over to the desk. And he turns
- 1:10:48Speaker 13: on the radio and keeps listening. At which point it's like,
- 1:10:51Speaker 13: why did he feel the need to go and sneak
- 1:10:53Speaker 13: up and crack the door and take his ear out
- 1:10:56Speaker 13: and listen when he can just walk over there and
- 1:10:58Speaker 13: turn it on, which he does anyway. It's like, I
- 1:11:01Speaker 13: don't understand.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: Again, in the Italian version, the radio just came on.
- 1:11:06Speaker 8: It was some miscommunication working in the audio.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: The scream, the Yeti scream. It's pretty epic, isn't it?
- 1:11:17Speaker 20: It was like high-pitched, like a woman.
- 1:11:21Speaker 13: Scream.
- 1:11:23Speaker 8: It's supposed to be, and I know this because the
- 1:11:26Speaker 8: person dancing around in the Yeti costume out here, one
- 1:11:30Speaker 8: of the other people did research for her and told
- 1:11:33Speaker 8: her what the Yeti roar is supposed to sound like.
- 1:11:37Speaker 8: It's a lion's roar mixed with an elephant trumpet.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: So it was pretty accurate.
- 1:11:44Speaker 13: It didn't blend.
- 1:11:45Speaker 12: It was like two separate sounds.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Yeah, like he had two, like, what do you call it?
- 1:11:50Speaker 20: I don't know the word. I'm just going to say throats.
- 1:11:54Speaker 20: Larynx or whatever it's called. He had two of those.
- 1:11:58Speaker 13: He might.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: We don't know what the anatomy of a Yeti is.
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: Well, you know, Tibetan monks can do two or three
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: tones when they're chanting. So maybe, you know, it's Yeti,
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: they're all Himalayan.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: Or Canadian. Italian or whatever.
- 1:12:13Speaker 13: You're talking about the physiology. That was something else I
- 1:12:15Speaker 13: thought was funny. The professor, when they're getting ready to
- 1:12:19Speaker 13: thaw him out, he makes a comment. He's like, ladies
- 1:12:23Speaker 13: and gentlemen, you're looking at your ancestors.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: It's like, how.
- 1:12:27Speaker 13: If it's only a million years ago, evolutionarily speaking, how
- 1:12:30Speaker 13: did our ancestors go from being these, like, 50 to
- 1:12:34Speaker 13: 100 foot tall behemoths to us?
- 1:12:37Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: You're forgetting he's Jesus. Yeah, I mean. And he rode dinosaurs.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: He rode dinosaurs.
- 1:12:46Speaker 6: I saw that in a museum here once.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a museum. It's got to be real. He
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: rode dinosaurs.
- 1:12:50Speaker 15: It's a museum.
- 1:12:53Speaker 13: But I will say, I mean, if I can say
- 1:12:55Speaker 13: anything positive, this is not facetious. I genuinely like this.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: Me too. I mean, way more than I expected to. Well,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: you cut me off.
- 1:13:02Speaker 13: I didn't mean the whole film as a whole.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: But continue on.
- 1:13:05Speaker 13: I like the main theme to the film, the music.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Yeah, which I believe is ripped off.
- 1:13:12Speaker 13: Yeah, it kind of, I was trying to remember the.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: It rips off, I think, two different themes.
- 1:13:17Speaker 13: There's a classical piece that it's kind of ripping off,
- 1:13:19Speaker 13: but it has more of like a 70s swing to it.
- 1:13:21Speaker 13: But it's like, all right.
- 1:13:23Speaker 8: The 70s music is pretty awesome, actually. But yeah, the
- 1:13:28Speaker 8: other one, it just kind of steals from something else.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: That theme was kind of disco-like.
- 1:13:32Speaker 13: Yeah, it was. Maybe they danced to it a lot
- 1:13:35Speaker 13: in Italy. 70s, 70s thing.
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: You think there was a disco yeti dance?
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: If there's disco duck, I mean, there's got to be
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: disco yeti.
- 1:13:46Speaker 13: There had to have been some underground club at the
- 1:13:49Speaker 13: end of the 70s, early 80s, just thought it was
- 1:13:52Speaker 13: very tongue-in-cheek and fun to do it with that theme.
- 1:13:54Speaker 13: I bet you there was some.
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: And they had a lot of coke, too.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: Do the Yeti. So, yeah. Again, just that last... If
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: we're going to get into the problems with it, not
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: that there were.
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: There are no problems.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: There were very many, but.
- 1:14:10Speaker 8: Flawless. Flawless piece of cinematic work No, that last third
- 1:14:19Speaker 8: is so long. It was funny watching everybody in the
- 1:14:23Speaker 8: room here, because usually we don't get to see a
- 1:14:24Speaker 8: whole room full of people. So this was funny, because
- 1:14:26Speaker 8: there's a guy with his knees just jumping up and down.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: It's just like, for God's sakes, get this over with.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: And that's the funny.
- 1:14:33Speaker 13: Thing, too, is the ending, it feels, it's so long,
- 1:14:37Speaker 13: but it feels rushed. yeah it's the weirdest it's both it's.
- 1:14:41Speaker 8: Like yeah it's like sloppily edited together and doesn't make
- 1:14:44Speaker 8: sense but at the same time it needed to end
- 1:14:46Speaker 8: 20 minutes yeah everything.
- 1:14:47Speaker 23: In the warehouse is yeah eight times longer than it
- 1:14:50Speaker 23: needs to be and the whole wandering around like the
- 1:14:53Speaker 23: city and them like following him the warehouse is probably
- 1:14:57Speaker 23: the longest stretch that needed to not be there but
- 1:15:00Speaker 23: Even the city.
- 1:15:01Speaker 8: And then it becomes like this fugitive on the run
- 1:15:03Speaker 8: movie for a minute. Only he's giant and he should
- 1:15:07Speaker 8: be spotted from the air in.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: That helicopter they had earlier.
- 1:15:10Speaker 13: I feel like that last third was when they realized
- 1:15:13Speaker 13: that they'd set up that whole subplot with the fellow
- 1:15:16Speaker 13: within the first five minutes. And they're like, well shit,
- 1:15:19Speaker 13: we started that other movie in this too. I guess
- 1:15:23Speaker 13: we should do something with that. Let's have it to
- 1:15:25Speaker 13: where he He kills the dog and the professor. Did
- 1:15:28Speaker 13: he kill the professor? I was outside at the time,
- 1:15:29Speaker 13: but that's what I kind of picked up.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:32Speaker 13: I'll assume so.
- 1:15:33Speaker 14: Sure.
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: The thugs killed the professor.
- 1:15:35Speaker 13: Okay, well, basically, they killed the professor, they killed the dog, presumably.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:15:40Speaker 13: Even though it comes back from the dead.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: The miracle of movies. And.
- 1:15:44Speaker 13: they are going to kidnap the Yeti so they can
- 1:15:47Speaker 13: use the Yeti for their marketing purposes?
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: Like you do.
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: I thought so because they were talking in the car
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: and the kid was listening in and he's like, oh shoot,
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: the kid heard us. And I'm like, at least somebody
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: did because I don't know what your plan is.
- 1:16:06Speaker 13: Because that's the whole thing. If the whole purpose of
- 1:16:10Speaker 13: getting the Yeti, again, was to be like this business
- 1:16:13Speaker 13: spree marketing scheme what is the point of kidnapping the
- 1:16:19Speaker 13: yeti when he's already put the yeti label on everything
- 1:16:23Speaker 13: that he owns.
- 1:16:23Speaker 8: Yeah well that's what i'm thinking i'm like why and
- 1:16:26Speaker 8: that that's the real question at this why do you
- 1:16:29Speaker 8: need a giant yeti to make that your marketing campaign
- 1:16:32Speaker 8: you can draw a yeti and put it on a
- 1:16:34Speaker 8: t-shirt oh wait i did And you.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Can sell whatever the hell you want. I don't have
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: a real Yeti, you know?
- 1:16:40Speaker 8: Why do they feel like nobody in advertising had ever
- 1:16:43Speaker 8: done it right up until, but if we have the
- 1:16:46Speaker 8: actual creature.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: I.
- 1:16:47Speaker 13: Mean, I feel like just at one point, you know,
- 1:16:51Speaker 13: somebody probably even came to this guy and said, why
- 1:16:53Speaker 13: do we need this Yeti? I don't know, but we
- 1:16:56Speaker 13: don't have it.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: That's why we gotta get it. Gotta get the Yeti.
- 1:16:59Speaker 13: We'll figure it out when we get it. There's only one.
- 1:17:02Speaker 6: I wonder if they were gonna start selling... hand vegetables.
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: Is that what they were going to, you know, jolly
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: green giants, pretty close.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: To jolly green Yeti.
- 1:17:14Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know.
- 1:17:16Speaker 13: My bottle of snow keys. Oh God.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Oh goodness. Get out.
- 1:17:23Speaker 13: So I'm going to make out with the ice sculpture now.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Do we have anything else we want to write? Cause
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: I've got my, my final take on it. Okay. Is
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: there anything else we need to get to beforehand?
- 1:17:36Speaker 20: I think especially the final shot proved this for me,
- 1:17:39Speaker 20: that the entire film was indeed just footage for a
- 1:17:44Speaker 20: Japanese karaoke.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: You know what.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: I'm talking about. All right, you might have summed it
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: up better, actually.
- 1:17:51Speaker 20: Because the final shot is, again, stock footage of these
- 1:17:55Speaker 20: glaciers falling and exploding into the ocean. And the Yeti
- 1:18:00Speaker 20: just walks in front of it. Like he's walking in
- 1:18:02Speaker 20: front of a screen. Like he's not in the environment.
- 1:18:04Speaker 13: Right.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: But he looks at you. He looks at you. It's
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: like he's looking into your soul, man. And that's when
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: the Yeti song should have started. The man that words
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: at the bottom. He's singing along.
- 1:18:16Speaker 13: Oh, God.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: A duet. I can see that, actually. Well, I mean,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: you got to give them credit. They were, again, the
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: earnestness of this. Like, they thought they were making the
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: best movie ever.
- 1:18:29Speaker 14: Like.
- 1:18:30Speaker 8: And he really was trying. Like, they do those zoom-ins sometimes,
- 1:18:33Speaker 8: and they do.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: This, that epic shot of, like, him, like, the upshot
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: of the Yeti. Yeah, where he's, like, looking around and saying, like.
- 1:18:40Speaker 8: Where am I? He gets, like, super creative with these
- 1:18:44Speaker 8: shots that he really thinks he's doing something with them.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: So, I mean, he's trying. I think he's trying.
- 1:18:50Speaker 13: For the better part, yes. But seriously, on that last
- 1:18:52Speaker 13: little portion, I feel like at that point, the cast realized, like,
- 1:18:56Speaker 13: he showed, you know, they were doing all this stuff,
- 1:18:58Speaker 13: and finally at one point they said, all right, you know,
- 1:18:59Speaker 13: I'm Tony or whatever his name was.
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:19:02Speaker 13: We want to see some dailies of what this thing
- 1:19:04Speaker 13: looks like. It's like, well, you'll see it at the
- 1:19:06Speaker 13: premiere of this page. Wait, no, we want to see
- 1:19:08Speaker 13: some now. okay and they watch.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: And they're like oh well i won't.
- 1:19:15Speaker 13: Get in you know at that point it's like well
- 1:19:17Speaker 13: we committed to this because even like in the last
- 1:19:20Speaker 13: portion of it everybody seems to not have this spunk
- 1:19:24Speaker 13: that they did at the beginning at that point it's
- 1:19:25Speaker 13: like they're out of steam like yeah all right i'm
- 1:19:28Speaker 13: just doing this to get this done the way it
- 1:19:30Speaker 13: kind of felt then it was kind of it just
- 1:19:32Speaker 13: i mean you watch the girl and you watch a
- 1:19:34Speaker 13: lot of the other main characters it's like they start
- 1:19:35Speaker 13: to lose yeah But the only person who doesn't is
- 1:19:38Speaker 13: the Italian Albert Finney guy.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: Playing Howard Hughes. Oh, he never tones it down.
- 1:19:44Speaker 13: No, he doesn't ever tone it down.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: I love that. But I won't give the director.
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: Italian Albert Finney.
- 1:19:49Speaker 13: Playing Howard Hughes. I'm sorry.
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: There's no other way to.
- 1:19:55Speaker 8: I won't give the director credit across the board, because
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: I think even in the beginning, there's times when it's that, like,
- 1:20:00Speaker 8: look at him really trying to get this amazing shot,
- 1:20:02Speaker 8: and then, like, the next shot is just crap. Like,
- 1:20:06Speaker 8: it's like he really, like, there were maybe days he
- 1:20:08Speaker 8: was just really inspired, and then other days he just,
- 1:20:11Speaker 8: it's like stuff's.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: Not even in frame right. Like, it's so, like, back
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: and forth. Like, there's no consistent, yeah, there's no consistency
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: to it.
- 1:20:19Speaker 8: And it's even more worsened by the editing process that's just, Again,
- 1:20:25Speaker 8: I don't know who.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: Came in and was just like, I don't know, slap
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: this in there now. I don't care if they're done talking,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: just slap this in there. It's so abrupt in the
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: way it shifts.
- 1:20:34Speaker 13: It's like when I'm decorating a Christmas tree. First, you're
- 1:20:37Speaker 13: kind of caught up in the awe and mystery of
- 1:20:39Speaker 13: it all. You unpack everything. There's sentiment and history behind it.
- 1:20:45Speaker 13: Halfway through, it's just you keep getting sick and tired
- 1:20:48Speaker 13: of untangling lights and trying to find the hooks to
- 1:20:51Speaker 13: the ornaments and then untangling those. Finally, you're just like,
- 1:20:55Speaker 13: God damn it.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: Fuck it.
- 1:20:56Speaker 13: I'm just going to finish it. I'm sick of it.
- 1:20:57Speaker 13: I'm going to throw it.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: It's good enough.
- 1:21:00Speaker 13: It's good enough. I might come back to it later
- 1:21:03Speaker 13: and fix it, but for now it's good enough. And
- 1:21:05Speaker 13: then nobody comes to your house throughout the holidays and
- 1:21:07Speaker 13: you're like, eh, it wasn't enough.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: I'm not going to fix it.
- 1:21:09Speaker 8: Screw this.
- 1:21:09Speaker 13: That's pretty much the way I felt. I was like,
- 1:21:11Speaker 13: all right, screw it. It's done. It's good enough. Next project.
- 1:21:15Speaker 13: Moving on.
- 1:21:17Speaker 8: Well, the tone I got from it, and it wasn't
- 1:21:20Speaker 8: that far into it, and definitely as it went on,
- 1:21:22Speaker 8: I was like, what this feels like is like those
- 1:21:26Speaker 8: 70s live-action Disney movies where you go on an adventure,
- 1:21:30Speaker 8: especially because it's kids and you got the kids. I
- 1:21:32Speaker 8: was like, this is Escape to Yeti Mountain. This is
- 1:21:37Speaker 8: exactly what it felt like to me. I was like,
- 1:21:39Speaker 8: It's one of those type of movies.
- 1:21:41Speaker 13: It's like Condor Man.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's that level because it's not super violent. Again,
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: I was trying to describe this to people. I was like,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: it's pretty low-key for what we're using. I mean, there's
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: not a whole lot of gore. As we said, there's
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: not a lot of killing.
- 1:21:56Speaker 13: It's more watchable than Bigfoot was.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: It's pretty PG-13 at worst. Yeah, it's pretty... Yeah, add
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: the nipple, it's 13.
- 1:22:02Speaker 12: There's no nipples in Disney movies.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: Bed knobs and... Well, in the background, there's all kinds
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: of stuff in the background. But yeah, I don't know.
- 1:22:14Speaker 13: Bed knob and broomstick sounds like a euphemism. It already is.
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: I think I rented that movie. That's a different one.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: But no, the.
- 1:22:26Speaker 8: Go down to the sea, to the cartoon sea, to
- 1:22:29Speaker 8: see an angel.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: What's it do with that?
- 1:22:33Speaker 13: I'm sorry.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: But no, yeah, it's the two kids.
- 1:22:37Speaker 8: Maybe it's just replacing Jessica Lange with two kids move
- 1:22:40Speaker 8: that they did.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Just gave it such an escape to Yeti Mountain feel.
- 1:22:44Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: That's just me. But it does seem very... I was like,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: did this run on Italian TV?
- 1:22:52Speaker 8: It's almost clean enough that you could show it to
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: normal people, but it doesn't make sense enough that their
- 1:22:58Speaker 8: brains wouldn't explode in the process. Well, we're obviously not
- 1:23:03Speaker 8: normal people. I think every episode we prove that.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't know. It's such a weird tone
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: to it.
- 1:23:12Speaker 13: I don't think there are going to be many viewers
- 1:23:14Speaker 13: who are going to listen to this and then watch
- 1:23:16Speaker 13: it and be able to make it about half an
- 1:23:17Speaker 13: hour in. I think it worked because we were all,
- 1:23:20Speaker 13: if you're watching it by yourself, I think if you're
- 1:23:22Speaker 13: watching it by yourself, it's almost unwatchable. If you watch
- 1:23:24Speaker 13: it with a group, yeah, you can do it. It's
- 1:23:26Speaker 13: pretty fun. Because you can laugh at the stuff and
- 1:23:29Speaker 13: make jokes at people, but watching it by yourself, I
- 1:23:31Speaker 13: think it would become interminable.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:23:33Speaker 13: I really do.
- 1:23:33Speaker 6: Either drinking or Mystery Science Theater might be the only
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: other options.
- 1:23:37Speaker 13: I mean, seriously, get some beers and take a drink
- 1:23:40Speaker 13: of beer every time you see a shot of a helicopter. Right.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: And you'll wake up the next morning. Or every time
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: she oddly pronounces, Yet she here were.
- 1:23:50Speaker 13: Every time there's an insert shot of the collie.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: Oh, man. These people are going to have alcohol poisoning.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: You better slow down, guys.
- 1:23:58Speaker 13: Come on now.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. It's a strange, strange film. And yet,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: it was perfect for the Yeti Spaghetti Show.
- 1:24:06Speaker 13: And Yeti it was perfectly.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: Get out.
- 1:24:10Speaker 13: It's the third time you've asked me.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: To leave this. Go lick the Yeti.
- 1:24:14Speaker 13: That's it.
- 1:24:17Speaker 9: Oh, man.
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: I think I might have to touch where its nipple
- 1:24:21Speaker 6: would be.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: Just making sure we didn't forget anything. We've rounded out
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: Yeti here.
- 1:24:28Speaker 13: We're trying to forget.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: We're trying to forget.
- 1:24:31Speaker 13: That's it.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: We all need to leave now.
- 1:24:34Speaker 8: All right, is there anything else we need to pass along?
- 1:24:36Speaker 8: Can we box up some of the Yeti cakes and
- 1:24:39Speaker 8: have people, like, can we ship them out?
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: You guys want some really old meatballs? We'll send you those, too.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: Those were some good meatballs. They're really good.
- 1:24:47Speaker 13: Again, I was saying, seriously, that needs to be something
- 1:24:49Speaker 13: you all carry here. Just put them in bagel form
- 1:24:52Speaker 13: and cook them. Again, I mean, who's going to object
- 1:24:56Speaker 13: to a bagel made out of sausage?
- 1:24:58Speaker 9: Nobody.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: They'll be happy. They'll come in and they'll be like.
- 1:25:03Speaker 13: I'm on a diet, give me a bagel. And you
- 1:25:05Speaker 13: give them sausage bagels, they're going to be elated.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: I mean, they really will.
- 1:25:09Speaker 13: You could have a whole marketing scheme just right there.
- 1:25:12Speaker 13: I mean, feel free to take that idea.
- 1:25:14Speaker 8: Technically, we already had one of our crew that made
- 1:25:17Speaker 8: us put bacon in one.
- 1:25:19Speaker 13: No, that's not the same. That's bacon in a bagel.
- 1:25:22Speaker 13: I'm talking about a bagel that is sausage. That is meatball.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 1:25:27Speaker 13: Yeah, it's meatball bagel. Gluten-free.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:34Speaker 15: I'm gone.
- 1:25:37Speaker 8: Yeah, in a couple of weeks, if you want us
- 1:25:38Speaker 8: to chip you out a very special meatball.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: A smagle, maybe?
- 1:25:43Speaker 16: Like a sausage.
- 1:25:45Speaker 13: Smagle?
- 1:25:46Speaker 12: Smagle?
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: That sounds wild. It's hard to say. I remember him
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: crawling around that mountain, but I don't know. I think
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: we should get the hell out of here.
- 1:25:56Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: We've been here way too long today.
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:26:00Speaker 20: Ugh.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: It's been quite an experience, the Yeti Spaghetti Show.
- 1:26:04Speaker 13: An exhausting one.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: That it has.
- 1:26:07Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: I think we should round it out. Thanks for joining
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: us on this epic journey. Otherwise, that about does it.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: We will return next week. Same geek time, same geek feed.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Thanks for listening.
- 1:26:20Speaker 13: Love of God.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: Let's go lick the Yeti.
- 1:26:48Speaker 24: He is so big, good man or small, but he
- 1:26:51Speaker 24: won't harm you. He is so hard, the man of.
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: Stone, but he won't kill you.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: The wind is big The wind is tough But it's
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: so good.
- 1:28:30Speaker 16: Thank you.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: In Iceland, we lick the Yeti. That's what we do
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: in Iceland.
- 1:29:20Speaker 9: This is my Bjork.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: Is that really bad? I thought it was a saying
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: at LifeSkater.
- 1:29:28Speaker 8: No.
- 1:29:28Speaker 13: Yeti in the dark.
- 1:29:44Speaker 8: Goodbye.
