- 0:28Hey, everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we're talking about compassion and how we
- 0:34demonstrate compassion for people.
- 0:36The other day we talked about respect, but respect goes hand
- 0:40in hand with compassion. So how do you show someone or
- 0:46something that you have compassion for it?
- 0:48How do you express compassion? Interesting.
- 0:54Thought about compassion. Sometimes people get stuck in
- 0:59thinking that if I have compassion for someone, I all of
- 1:03a sudden don't have the ability to be honest with them.
- 1:09I don't have the ability to be real with them.
- 1:12And none of that is true. None of that is true because.
- 1:17It's all about how you demonstrate it with respect.
- 1:20Like, that's why we talked about respect the other day first.
- 1:22But now we're talking about demonstrating compassion.
- 1:25And compassion is tricky because sometimes it's one of the
- 1:30biggest hurts we have to go through.
- 1:32So one of my clients recently had to put her dog to sleep and
- 1:38we had a long conversation about this and the truth is that it
- 1:42was the most compassionate thing to do.
- 1:45Because he was suffering and there was no question about the
- 1:49fact that it had to happen. And in compassion comes pain and
- 1:54we've if you've ever owned an animal you absolutely know that
- 1:58that is one of the hardest things to do is putting a dog or
- 2:02cat or any animal to sleep. It is the most difficult thing
- 2:07for me as an as the mad animal lover that I am, I.
- 2:11Still can't get past the fact that I had to put my Chihuahua
- 2:14to sleep. And you know, all these years
- 2:16later and he is still on my phone every morning when I open
- 2:21it up. He is the the my home screen on
- 2:23my phone smiling at me. And I still see him every single
- 2:27day. And having having compassion for
- 2:31him meant that I couldn't be selfish for myself and keep him
- 2:35here anymore. And there's a fine line.
- 2:38Between understanding the selfish part and the compassion
- 2:42part for things. And compassion in everyday world
- 2:45works the same thing. Not just always the big
- 2:48decisions, but having compassion for someone when they are having
- 2:51an emotional breakdown because something's happening around
- 2:55them. And you feel like, oh, if I have
- 2:58compassion for this person, it's just going to keep going on and
- 3:01on and on. But it doesn't have to be that
- 3:04way. It just has to be that you
- 3:05acknowledge it. Hey, I'm.
- 3:06I'm going to have compassion for where they are right now.
- 3:09I'm not going to hold that over their head and make them suffer
- 3:13for the fact that, you know, they had a weak moment in
- 3:16whatever they were thinking, doing or being.
- 3:19And then I'm going to let it go and treat them as I would
- 3:22outside of the situation. It's like having a little.
- 3:26A little pattern that you can do for yourself by providing them
- 3:30the connection of the energetic connection of compassion, by
- 3:34just saying I'm expressing it to them.
- 3:36Just giving them just a little bit of it makes all the
- 3:39difference in the world. And sometimes we don't know the
- 3:42backstories. 9 times out of 10, we don't know all the
- 3:46backstories. We know what people want us to
- 3:47know, but we don't know the whole backstories.
- 3:50So when you think you know everything, please remind
- 3:53yourselves. I don't know everything, 'cause
- 3:55I can promise you, even when you think you know everything, you
- 3:58don't know everything. You honestly cannot.
- 4:01Because guess what? They don't know everything
- 4:04themselves. They don't know what's at play
- 4:06unless they've gone through a ton of this work themselves.
- 4:09They don't know what's even happening.
- 4:11They just know where they are in this moment, how they feel, and
- 4:13they're being reactive to it. So give yourself the gift of
- 4:17showing up with that compassion, meeting them where they are,
- 4:20give them the respect of it, and then move yourself on.
- 4:23Because nothing is worse than knowing that you did something
- 4:27to hurt somebody and you didn't even realize it because you
- 4:30weren't in a state of compassion for where they were, but they
- 4:33didn't even know it themselves. So just give yourself that
- 4:36little tiny. I'm going to pause.
- 4:40How would compassion show up right now?
- 4:42If I was in a compassionate state of mind, what would that
- 4:45look like? What would it sound like?
- 4:47Even sometimes just saying the words to somebody I understand
- 4:51is a big deal. Now, if you don't understand,
- 4:53I'm not asking you to act out of integrity.
- 4:56Don't do that. You can say, I understand your
- 4:59thoughts. I understand your feeling.
- 5:01I understand your emotion. You could say something like
- 5:04that. You could even just say, OK.
- 5:06OK. You can just say the word OK, 2
- 5:10letters to somebody makes that you acknowledge that place
- 5:14they're in. And sometimes for people,
- 5:16compassion is just acknowledgement.
- 5:18So keep that in mind because as we go through the holiday
- 5:21season, it's usually really hard for people that you know.
- 5:26I think more people have trouble than don't because of what it
- 5:30represents. And if I had my way, I'd like to
- 5:33make it so everyone could at least have a joyous season of
- 5:36whichever holiday you are celebrating, but without having
- 5:40that heavy feeling of the burden of it.
- 5:42And we can all do that when we just start these small little
- 5:46tiny things around us. OK, my friends, I hope you have
- 5:49a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:52Bye.
