- Sam: What's going on, everybody? Welcome back to the Honey It's Saturday podcast. I'm Sam Grant. We got Mitch Williams here. a very sad Texas AM fan sitting over to my to my left, but just a great college football Saturday. Just continues to be any given Saturday. You never know who's gonna win a football game. We had some great matchups, UCLA, Oregon, Georgia, Alabama. All these games we're gonna break down here in a little bit. But but Mitch, what what what were your thoughts on just kind of This past week six. Honey It's Saturday: Well, I think we had three top ten teams lose this week. I mean, that's that's a pretty fantastic Sam: Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: weekend of college football. if you look at it from that perspective, I think there's so much parity this year. And yeah, you mentioned I I am a dejected, emotionally numb at this point, Texas A fan, that's for sure. But we've been over that on this podcast. I will say my weekend was still redeemed yesterday because certain team down in Austin lost and from an analyst perspective, I'm not biased. I will I will share my neutral opinion on and thoughts on that game, but from a fan perspective, that did help redeem my Saturday a little bit yesterday. Sam: You know, you gotta take your wins where you can get So I I'm glad you're able to get that as a non-biased fan on this podcast. But before we kind of go into our our pick sevens and kind of our weekly recap, maybe look at the AP top twenty-five poll as well, just kind of want to get your fought your thoughts on just the the referee and officiating crews around the country and just kind of obviously there are a couple of issues that came up yesterday and some pretty key moments. So just kind of what do think the state is of just college football officiating this year in 2026? Honey It's Saturday: I just look, I'm the last person to say that you can blame an official in any respect or capacity after the result of a sporting event. I just think you got to take personal accountability. You got to take accountability as a team and you got to move on. So I don't think that in any situation you should be in a place to put blame on the officials, regardless of the actual. you know, circumstances of the situation. I I will say there were a lot of games around the country yesterday that had some very questionable calls. I think it didn't help that the one everyone was the most looking forward to and probably the most tuned into last night with Georgia Bama ended up coming down to the wire and some very crucial calls contributed to the actual outcome of that game. You hate to see that because you want to see it play out on the field. You want to let the kids play it out. And I just I was not a huge fan Of the way that went down yesterday. I don't think we should be in a state of college football where that's the case. And I also think, man, the calls that were missed in that game are not like 50-50 calls. The calls that were missed in that game, there were three, I could point out three major calls that were very obvious. The pass interference on the last drive is the one everyone's gonna go to. There was also a targeting on Ryan Coleman Williams that wasn't called where I look, regardless of what your opinion is on the targeting rule, I know football is a physical game, but by the book. It was the clearest targeting possible. Lowered the crown of the helmet, helmet to helmet contact first, defenseless receiver. That's targeting. Wasn't even looked at for targeting. They didn't even review it. And then there's a clear face mask where the dude's whole helmet was yanked off. So it's not like they're 50-50 calls. They're very obvious calls. And it was just it just so happened to be they consistently went against the tide. But that game was a great game. I'm not saying Georgia didn't deserve to win that game, but you asked me about the state of officiating in college football. I did not think yesterday was a good day. I just I really didn't. So I think there needs to be some evaluation going. Sam: Yeah, I think there needs to be evaluation. I think there needs to be accountability when it comes to this. I think you can obviously you never want to point to the officials like and most coaches will say, Hey, we gotta go out there and win the game. We can't leave it up to them. But for some Honey It's Saturday: Exactly. Sam: of the for some of these calls, like, I mean, they're pretty, pretty outrageous and just common sense of what college football is for most people. so I think accountability would go a long way. And just a lot of these officials, man, they are they're guys that fly out on Friday. work the game and then go back to a a normal nine to five during the middle of the week. And there's nothing wrong with that. Like I but I think I think for the where college football is at and the professionalism that it's getting to, it kind of needs to shift to an NFL where it's like, hey, these guys are full time NFL referees, like consistent training, consistent like meetings throughout the week. Like it needs to be a full on, full time commitment because there's just too much on the line for some of these games, for some of the for some of these mistakes and just I mean you want You want your your your college football world to be great when it comes to this and never want to leave anything up to officials. So some of these conferences I think need kinda take a little bit of better of initiative to training these guys and just getting these guys up. And I that that that game specifically Georgia Alabama, that's the highest level that it's gonna get in college football. So Honey It's Saturday: Yeah. Well, I completely agree with you. And if you're at the SEC, that's the prime time game, the biggest matchup, you would assume that you have your best crew assigned to it. So that's just to have that many calls. And I didn't even bring up the interception that was overturned. I mean, that one was a little bit more of a fifty fifty call, but it was called an interception on the field. And if Bama gets the ball there, they're at Georgia's twenty. And, you know, people could debate whether it hit his wrist or it hits the ground. But if there's a serious debate like that, normally you would see that play stand because you need conclusive evidence. But it clearly didn't go that way. So that's a fourth one. I mean, I just think and there was the clock at the end of the first half. I mean, there's so many things you could talk about in that game. I just think overall it was poorly officiated. And it can't happen. Sam: Yeah. No, definitely not. So I'll be curious just to see if there's any change that kinda comes with that kind of just retaliation after the Alabama, Georgia and just what other scenarios may happen this year. But think Honey It's Saturday: Yeah. Sam: there's probably probably something that needs to be done. So Honey It's Saturday: And we've already it's not the first time this is if we're gonna narrow it down, it's not just the SEC, but if we are gonna narrow it down to the SEC, this isn't the first time we've talked about officiating this year. Sam: No. Honey It's Saturday: I mean, even in the Tennessee Texas game, there was that controversial onside kick, which thank goodness didn't end up actually impacting the end of the game because, you know, Tennessee didn't go down in score, but that that was another one we've already discussed on here that you just can't miss in real time. And those are plays like in crunch time in the fourth quarter that can be game deciding. So I just it Sam: Yeah. Just can't happen. Honey It's Saturday: It's pretty ridiculous. Yeah. Sam: Yeah. It is. Well, just kinda wanna start us off with a little bit of a kind of a broad general college football context, but kinda wanna be able to now segue into our pick seven games this week. very disappointing week for myself. It was just my teams are just letting me down, man. And there there's so many of these games that are out there for for my guys to win and to be able to pick up some big points. It's just not happening. so I'll I'll start. Honey It's Saturday: Sam, you got a positive you got a positive net total this week. You're talking a little too negative, I think. Sam: No, it's just these these teams aren't they're not winning the games they're supposed to be winning and the games that they are winning aren't winning them how they should be. For example, Tennessee played Arkansas yesterday. They won by seven. And we scored late, Tennessee scored late in that game to be able to win that. And granted, I think Arkansas looked much better than they did the week before against AM, honestly throughout this entire season. But I it just can't happen. Tennessee Tennessee's just struggling at who's their quarterback gonna be. But you know what? At this point with how college football looked yesterday, it's just survive in advance every single week. So a win's a win. not for my pick seven, but s just need needed a big margin of victory there, but didn't get it. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I will admit a seven point win against this Arkansas team probably feels like a loss to you. I mean, Sam: It's Honey It's Saturday: the Aggies, we are not looking like a very good football team, especially on offense. And last week, I mean, it was just a week ago, we played the same Arkansas team, and we moved the ball pretty much at will and beat them by about thirty. So that I know that didn't feel well. Didn't feel good. Sam: No. And especially with Tennessee welcoming Alabama into town this week. That's I don't feel so great. But I move on. That'll be Tuesday's episode. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah. Mounts back spot. Sam: Yep. Virginia Tech lost to a backup quarterback in Cal in California this Saturday. Just heartbreaking. Big win for Mitch and his seven, but just just flat out disappointed. Like I just know Honey It's Saturday: I didn't see that one coming. I needed it so bad. Sam: no other way to put that one. USF lost late to UTSA on Friday night. Just again, another heartbreaker. This USF team is just for the point value that I picked them for, they are not living up to it. they just Honey It's Saturday: I will say for that matchup though, I mean, we we expected that game maybe to be a little bit uglier than it was. So even though they lost, I think they kept it a little bit closer than we both thought in that preview show last week. Sam: Yeah, I I would agree to that. But I mean, I just you you look at that USF team and the talents there, they just can't put it together. So again, very disappointed in that team right now. Oklahoma State got a big win against UCF. I mean, again, these these guys are rolling. They're they're they're a light, light in the darkness for me right now with my seven. So they are they are playing some really good football right now. Wake Forest Honey It's Saturday: They're looking great in that big twelve race. Yeah, they're looking great. Sam: They are. So maybe that's maybe that's a chance for me to get some more points near the tail end. But Wake Forest, same thing. Thirty eight fourteen win over NC State. Man, do they look good. they are just continuing to kind of put their foot down against some of these ACC schools and it makes me feel really good about them as they progress through the rest of the season. So kinda right now, Oklahoma State and Wake Wake are my consistent, most consistent teams. and those are kind of some of the sleeper teams that I picked going into the year. So I I'm feel pretty happy about that, but just wish I had a little bit more. support from my other squads and Michigan State lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Illinois. They decided to go for two to just try to win it. Didn't end up getting it. So they lost thirty-eight Honey It's Saturday: All right. Sam: to thirty-seven. Honey It's Saturday: All right. This was a heartbreaker. Also amazing comeback effort from Michigan State in this game 'cause they were down at one point by a pretty significant margin. I need you to repeat I need you Sam: You sex to me. Honey It's Saturday: to repeat Illinois. Sam: Illinois? Did I say Illinois? Honey It's Saturday: Okay, that's much that's much better. I just wanted to make sure that you weren't one of I mean, I don't know if we got any Alina fans in here, but I heard Illinois, so I just had to correct you. Sam: I pr I probably did say Illinois, but it is what it is. Colorado Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: It is what it is. They still beat Michigan State either way. Illinois, Illinois, that's a L. Sam: Yeah, it's still an L for the Spartans. And then thankfully Colorado stay out of bye. man, I a couple couple of weeks ago we were Mitch and I and his dad is in this league too. We were both top ten. Feel feeling really good and just these last couple of weeks, maybe just this week and the past week, just feel very discouraged with my team's performance. So I really need we're kinda at that halfway point in the season. I really need these guys to kind of pick it up. Honey It's Saturday: Well, here's the deal, Sam. At the end of the day, that that that group aside, this this is just between me and you, me, you, and the Lord. All right. This is a competition at the end of the year. One of us is going to have to do some sort of consequence. I didn't have a great week either. And while I'm in front, I'm not in front by that significant of a margin. We've seen week to week, all it takes is one good week and you could bounce back. And I don't even have a hundred point lead on you. I've got 641 total points. I did get a positive week, but it's only 20 points in the positive. So not a great one for me. I'll run through it, but I just want to start off by saying you're very much still in this competition. So don't get too dejected. Look, I I've been through it the last few weeks in college football. I've been through all of the stages of grief. Okay. I I'm at the point where I've accepted it. I'm at the point of acceptance with Aiden. And I'm I I want you to know you're experiencing some grief right now with your pick seven. Just let it ride. You never know what's going happen. There's going to be good days and bad days. Okay. Sam: I needed that. Honey It's Saturday: I need a smile on your face. I I need to see it. Sam: The smile's here, it's just a very disappointed smile. Honey It's Saturday: Man, well, I look, just give it time. I'll go ahead and go through my slate. I'll start off with a pretty rough one for me, too. Oregon was the team that I spent the most points on this year. And this is their second loss this season already. To a UCLA team that looks very physical. I was really impressed. I've been impressed with UCLA this year. Nico even got hurt in this game. I know Oregon's got their own quarterback problems. Riola started. Ryola got benched. It just was a bad situation in Eugene. but I mean, full credit to you, CLA, and that defense for this too. in the trenches, they looked really great. They out physically Oregon for a large majority of this game and they just got done what they needed to get done. Oregon ended up getting stuffed on a two point conversion attempt, and it just didn't go their way. So they didn't lose by a ton, so it's not like I lost a lot of points here. But for a team that I invested so many points in in this grouping, I really need them to perform well. And they just they haven't been what I thought they'd be. And you know, maybe. Maybe Dante Moore comes back and this team revives again. But even if they do, at this point, they've already got two losses that aren't horrible losses, because I think Oklahoma State and UCLA are pretty good teams, but they're not great losses either. So I think when it comes to the playoff conversation, even if they win out, it's going to be a tough conversation come the end of the year. So that's not great for me. Loss there. Indiana, man. They went to Lincoln and that was a dogfight. They were really, I mean, they were really on their their last leg for pretty much that whole second half, kind of clawing back. I was impressed with Nebraska in this game, too. But Nebraska made some critical errors down the stretch, some busted coverages defensively. Don't know how you let Marsh run free twice. I mean, that's I mean, twice. That's Sam: Wide open. Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: pretty unacceptable. That's Matt Rule is not gonna not gonna be happy about this one in film this week, but that's also Not something we haven't seen from a rural coach team in the last few years, unfortunately, if you're a Nebraska fan. Sam: you are you were picking at your Baylor guys right there too. Honey It's Saturday: It's just unfortunate. Well, they would agree with me. I know they would. I know Panthers fans would agree with me too. So it just it is what it is. sorry, Sam. And Sam: No, I I honestly forgot he was our coach for a little bit. And I just th that whole Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, you probably Sam: era is just completely p blacked out of my memory. Honey It's Saturday: You blocked that out of your memory for a reason. Probably the exact reason I was just talking about. Anyways, Indiana Sam: Exactly. Honey It's Saturday: does end up with a win here. I I do think it's a good win on the road because I do think Nebraska looks like an improved team. But for me still, I'm not sold on Indiana. I'm just not, I don't think that they have the same killer instinct that these past couple years have had, especially last year. And hey, they're winning games. So that's great. That's positive points for me. But I would have liked to see a little bit more this week. North Dakota State took their first loss of the season this week. I can't be so upset. They've been great for me first year in the FBS. It was gonna happen eventually. Dan Mullen got them in Vegas. It was a close game. Offense just couldn't get going. Their defense played great, like always. I've been really impressed with that North Dakota State defense, but they just couldn't get it going. the run game was not there, which is a big deal because this offense really, really relies on that run game to get going and it opens up some big plays through the air, but couldn't get it going. Weren't able to finish and end up with a a six point loss there. So I I lose some points, but Cal kind of redeemed that one because I was expecting a loss from Cal and a win from North Dakota State. They kind of flip flopped here. So I'll take that. That's huge for me against Virginia Tech. Not good for James Franklin. Not good for James Franklin, but great for me. Sam: So ridiculous. It's the backup quarterback. Honey It's Saturday: Any more thoughts from Sam on this game? It's written all over space. Sam: I just I'm just in shock, man. It's just fr James Franklin's MO is he wins the games he is supposed to win, he loses the games he's supposed to lose. He has the last two weeks lost two games that he is supposed to win. Honey It's Saturday: Yes, but I think, you know, we might be learning too that it takes a little bit it's just gonna take a little more time at Virginia Tech than we thought it was going to in Blacksburg. I think it's still a first year first year head coach at a program that's been struggling. I think maybe we baked a little bit too much into the talent he got in the transfer portal that he brought over from Penn State and James James Franklin coming in. We may have boosted them in our minds a little bit higher than, you know, what's deserved. Maybe just give them a couple of years and they'll be winning the games they should win. But We'll we'll see what happens there. And they're still a long season. they got plenty of opportunities to bounce back. Delaware was on bye for me this week, so it's kind of a wash there. Oregon State, man. Jesse Legree and this offense are electric. They have those two losses to tough Big 12 opponents on the road to start the year, Houston and Texas Tech. They were competitive in both of those games, which I thought was a positive sign. I didn't know it was this positive of a sign. Their offense has been clicking on all cylinders. They absolutely obliterated San Diego State 66 to 14 this week. Jesse Legree, his numbers to this point in the year are absolutely ridiculous. He's got more yards than Jeremiah Smith, more touchdowns, more yards per catch. And nobody like people are going to start talking about him. I know they will, but he's a true freshman doing this. So I think he's really going to wake a lot of people up. And Jeremiah Smith's having an amazing season too. So that that's just, I'm just trying to. you know, paint the picture for you guys of how good this kid actually is. And then Sam Houston State took a pretty major loss to the Flames. So Liberty can smile about or Sam can smile about this Liberty win. I knew Sam: Ha ha. Honey It's Saturday: they weren't going to win this game. Didn't know they were going to lose 35 to three. So I'm not super happy about that. but it is what it is. I come out with 20 points and I still got to lead over Sam. Sam: I do have to ask, what is your point total for Oregon State? Like I feel like everything about yesterday was carried by Oregon State, putting up sixty six. So I'm just curious what the what the full amount like how many points they they racked up yesterday. Honey It's Saturday: yesterday they racked up about fifty-eight points and total on the season they have gotten me a hundred and thirty nine. Sam: Okay. Fifty eight wasn't as high as I thought it would be. I I was thinking back to when Oregon beat like Portland State or whatever and you racked up like Honey It's Saturday: Well, they won that game by eighty plus points, and it was a shutout. Sam: That's true. It was eighty four. I guess in my head I was thinking sixty four, so that would make more sense. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, no, they they got me about fifty eight, I think it might have been sixty points, but somewhere in there, which is still great. I mean, it I really needed Sam: Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: that this week, so Sam: Yeah, that's very true. But overall, good week for both of us. staying in the positive. Big week coming up for both of our pick seven groups. So I will say just just continues to be a week by week league. I mean, everything in pick seven, everything in our predictions, like you really never know what's gonna happen on a week to week basis, which makes it super exciting. The predictability is kind of going out the window at this point, which I think makes it really exciting. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, for college football, the parody is is there. I mean, it really is. You say what you want about NAL. I I have my own thoughts on it. I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of things, more about the execution of how they've done it. But it seems to be leveling the playing field a little bit. I mean, week to week, you really don't know what's gonna happen. so that has been really fun to see this year. It's obviously not fun when you're on the losing side of it, but I think it's great for college football as a whole. And we do have we do have a full slate to break down, but before we get into it, we're gonna recap the full slate from this past weekend. I just want to say the Honey It Saturday poll is going nowhere. The Honey It Saturday poll is going to release on Wednesday this week. And I know you guys are wondering what we're thinking about the AP poll. We may throw some thoughts in here, but don't go anywhere. Tune back in on Wednesday. We'll go over our Honey It Saturday top twenty-five. We just gotta Sam and I need to take some extra time and process what went down this weekend. Sam: Yeah, a lot of time to process and just full transparency. We're filming this at about three o'clock right now and the poll released an hour ago. So haven't had a ton of time to to really get our full thoughts. So we decided, hey, let's push it to Wednesday, make sure our top twenty five poll is the best top twenty five poll out there. Honey It's Saturday: That's correct. Also, just wanna say this. This is the last time you guys are gonna see me fully healthy for a while. if you watch on YouTube, my beautiful shoulders here are gonna be covered in a sling, especially this right one. Just this right one, thank goodness. next time you see me on Thursday morning when we drop the next episode. So surgeries can't keep us down. We're gonna keep fighting, we're gonna keep pushing at the Honey It Saturday podcast, but I will be on the injury report starting tomorrow. Sam: Everybody say your prayers for Mitch. It's it's gonna be a it's gonna be a a l a recovery for him that hope goes well and know he's gonna be out for the count for a little bit. So definitely Honey It's Saturday: Nobody wants to be on the IR. That's never fun. Sam: No. Hey, but your comeback is gonna be electric. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I sure hope so. Well, let's go ahead Sam: Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: and get into it. I I'm gonna take this first game of the slate, okay? We're gonna go, we're gonna go through it. The first game that we went through and picked this past weekend, Iowa State BYU. BYU was ranked number eight in the country, had Iowa State coming to town. They end up winning twenty-four to ten. Honestly, if you watch the game, I will admit it felt like a bigger win than twenty-four ten. At least to me, I felt like BYU was pretty much in complete control of this one. What were your thoughts here? Sam: Yeah, I I think for me, I look back at kind of how we talked about BYU last week with TCU. Offensively, they just don't stick out a ton to me. They do what they need to do to be able to win the football game, but it really is that BYU defense that is playing really good football, that's kind of setting the tone for how that game's gonna go. I think BYU at times gets a little bit conservative just because they know they have the defense behind them that's shutting down. holding Iowa State to ten and TCU to seven the previous week. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I mean, Iowa State was held to their fewest total yards since twenty eighteen in this game. They had they Sam: Yeah, I mean look back at what Honey It's Saturday: had less than fifty yards at halftime. Sam: I it's wild. And Iowa State put up I I don't even know how many yards last week against West Virginia, but we broke that broke that game down and they put up a ton Honey It's Saturday: A lot. Yeah. Sam: of points, which for my in my head was thinking this maybe be a chance for them to compete in this game and BYU just kind of didn't flinch at all. Honey It's Saturday: Mm-hmm. Sam: but I think Iowa State's still a first year coach, a lot of lot of turnover. I think they're showing a lot of signs and progress for what's to come for them. But overall, BYU. Still remains undefeated, have a huge one this week against Notre Dame, which will break down on Thursday when we release college Honey It's Saturday: College game days going to town. Provo. Sam: game day. Great environment. I'm sure it will be the Catholics versus Mormons. But that'll be a good, good, really good testament to where where that team truly is at and compete competing for like the whole college football, even playoff implications as well. But I think this was a good, good win for BYU. They just really gotta kind of pick things up on offense. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I would agree with you. You pretty much nailed it. I will say the one thing I was questioning for BYU was their air attack because their ground their ground game had been great. Iowa State did a decent job defending the run, but I think it also had a lot to do with the fact Bear Bachmeyer finally got the passing game going this week. He threw for over 300 yards and kind of made a little bit of a statement to where this this was one for me where going into that Notre Dame game, it helped me from BYU perspective because I was really just unsure. About this BYU team. And I still have questions, but they did answer a lot of those questions for me this week to where I do think they can be competitive next week. And I'm excited to break that one. Sam: Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I think that's gonna be a a really good matchup and we'll just kind of give a good idea for both these teams. But I do want to make one one comment here, and this is something that usually we start on Sundays with this segment. If one of us, Mitch or myself, loses to our wives in the games that we break down on a week to week Honey It's Saturday: Mm. Sam: basis. Mitch did lose to Keaton on Saturday. Mitch, I believe, was three and five and Keaton was five and three, but Mitch cannot seem to find his hat right now. So he will be making this up later this week on the Thursday podcast. So just just kind of want to make sure everybody's aware of why he's not wearing the hat and just just in case anybody was wondering, because this is the first time he's gonna Honey It's Saturday: Yeah. Sam: have to wear the hat. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I got outpicked by my wife for the first time. Not a great feeling, but it's gonna happen eventually. And I I'm not one to back away from a punishment and shame. I would be wearing the hat right now. I should be wearing the hat right now. Unfortunately, I misplaced it. So it'll turn up Sam: Convenient. Honey It's Saturday: and I'll throw it on as soon as I got it. That'll probably be on this midweek episode. so sorry to let you guys down. I I knew look, here's what here's the deal. Sam: Just just had to make sure we threw it out. Honey It's Saturday: I spent like a whole two minutes on our last episode talking about how you can trust me because I'm 15 and one in the last two weeks. I should have never done that. This was inevitable. Sam: Followed up with a three and five. It's wild. Honey It's Saturday: This was inevitable because I did that. So never, you know, pride comes before the fall. That's what that's what they all say. It's pretty biblical. So it is what it is. Sam: It is. And you know what it it is what it is. It's Nebraska. And I think they lost a heartbreaker to Indiana. They lost twenty to seventeen. I know you kind of talked about a little bit earlier how you still don't really trust that Indiana team, but I think this was a good showed a good testament of just still what Signetty has in that locker room. I mean, this is a tough environment. Nebraska looks much improved. Was a very physical football game. And I mean, they just they really turned it on in that fourth quarter to be able to pull this one out. But I think Two really good Big Ten teams, but I think Indiana's still gonna be here to stay for a little bit. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, they continue to be a very competitive football team with a winning culture. It's established by Signet. I don't think anyone's surprised by that. I still think that their margin for error is much smaller this year than what we saw last year. I I mean, these close games are not something we're necessarily used to for them. I know Nebraska and Northwestern are both programs that are improved this year in the Big Ten, but Latin I think last year's Indiana team handles these games a lot differently than what we've seen. But this isn't last year. This is this year. It's a brand new team and they're doing a great job with what they got. I mean, props to them. They're still undefeated at this point in the year. Top 10 team. They got a road win against the undefeated Nebraska. At the end of the day, that's a great win. It was a great environment. Packed house. Nebraska punched them in the mouth at the beginning. They stayed in the game and they clawed back. The the craziest part here for me was we talked a lot about that Indiana run game. They were held to under 70 yards. rushing in this game. Sam: Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: And to your credit, to your point, they still found a way to win this game. Hoover found a way to make some plays. Marsh for 187 and two touchdowns. I mean, I don't know. I think if you're a Nebraska fan, you're pretty dejected just because you you feel like these big moments, you've got it right here and just consistently it slips away year after year after year. And you're just waiting for that breakthrough. But I would just ask you to take a deep breath. And realize you're a one loss team who just took a top ten country, the defending national champions, to the brink. You still got everything in front of you. You've only got one loss. Build momentum instead of letting it, you know, bring you down a little bit. I still think that Nebraska has a lot of potential this year. But yeah, this was actually this was a very fun game. And we talked too about Indiana was like two and or one and four against the spread. Now they're one and five. They still didn't cover. So Very interesting story to follow there. Sam: Yeah. And I mean again, a win's a win. At at this point this year, with how many just games that are going in opposite directions than what we think, you just gotta win the game. And that's what Indiana did. again, I I I'm on the same page with you. I think they're a little bit more vulnerable than they were last year. But maybe this is a team that looks like it, but they just continue to win. I mean, again, we talked about this with BYU. I'm gonna say it here for Indiana. We are gonna find out a lot next week. Indiana plays Ohio State. Again, next week's slate is unbelievable. We're not gonna talk about much of it here today on today's podcast, but we're gonna see a lot about some of these big teams and how they respond. So, but again, Nebraska has a lot to look forward to. and I think just two two really good Big Ten football teams. Honey It's Saturday: I would agree with you. I would agree with you. I think this next game has one really good football team. Missouri at home took down Texas AM 27 to 6. This is a noon kickoff. The spread was like four. We thought maybe this was the opportunity for AM to make a statement, turn their season around. Instead, it was just a lot more of the same. A lot more of the same. Marcel Reed, 19 of 39, two interceptions. Just not good. first half. A lot of drops by AM in critical moments, some drops that led to those interceptions. So not everything was on Marcel, but he just didn't look good. The offense can't click, and Missouri just continues to chug along. Their defense looked extremely good, especially against the run, which we saw against ball last week, saw it again this week. And on the flip side of that, Jamal Roberts is a dog. Jamal Roberts, I mean, we thought Ahmad Hardy going down, and which is a huge loss for Missouri because he's an incredible running back. We thought him going down. maybe a little bit of an issue for this Missouri offense. Jamal Roberts has picked up right where he left off. I mean, 220 yards yesterday. He's just been a machine. And Drinkowitz finally gets Elko. He was 0-3 going into here. Now he's one and three. So good for him getting over that, getting over that bump. Sam: Yeah, I think Missouri is continuing to prove that they're for real. granted, I think this AM team has a lot to figure out, but Missouri just really being able to run the football. W I mean, Caden Lee, receiver for them, or Kayan Lee, whatever, he is a phenomenal wide receiver. He continues to have big games and big moments where it matters. Austin Simmons is continuing to play just out of his mind. I don't think he played all that great yesterday, but he's gonna do enough to be able to win the game. And again, I For for just kind of before I shift back to AM, Missouri, a huge one this week against Ole Miss. Trinidad Chambliss versus Austin Simmons, a top SEC quarterback matchup. Two, two guys that have been former teammates. Like that's gonna be a huge testament to where both these programs are at. And I I get every single game pretty much on this list, I feel like we have a good idea to reference back to what's what's to come this week to be able to tell what's gonna be truly how these teams are gonna play. which just makes me super excited. I I did kind of want to get your thoughts on. Mike Elko calling out Tex Ags and Billy Lucci after the game. I know he is a very well respected AM beat reporter, runs TexAgs. Great, great, great, great group that's kind of putting out really quality co Texas AM content. And he just decided to call him out. I don't know if that was a frustration kind of thing or where that came from, but what what are your thoughts on that? Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I mean, it was definitely frustration. Look, I I'm a TechSags follower. I have been for a while. I think if you're an Aggie, you're at least familiar with what Tech Sac Tech Sags does. I mean, they do a really good job of covering all things, AM sports, football included, if not foremost. And and then Billy Lucci, I mean, he's the key figure there. And I just think Elko let this was a moment where Elko let his frustrations get the best of him. And he said something at the end of the day that he just really should not have said. And I guarantee you, we get early into this week. Elko will probably apologize in his press conference. But I just I think when your team is three and three, your fan base is clearly frustrated. They've got some valid concerns about the offense, some valid concerns about your offseason decisions with hiring and firing and you know, recruiting and who you're going to go after in the portal, who you're not going to go after, who you're starting at quarterback. I just think there's a lot of question marks, and the fans have a lot of justifiable concerns. And I just think He let his frustrations get the best of him. And I I don't I think you really need to rectify that because while yes, he took us to the he took that A and program to the playoff for the first time last year, you don't want to let the wheels fall off too quickly. And I just don't think that's a step in the right direction for him right now. I think he needs to just focus on turning that locker room around and figuring out what needs to be done in that film room before he he starts going after the media. Sam: Yeah, I agree. I think that was just a a frustrating spot for him. And I think for the state of where AM is at, for somebody that's I feel like pretty beloved within the AM athletics world or realm, so to speak, taking a shot like that is probably not gonna help Mike Elko as the season goes on, if they kind of continue to play like this. but who knows? Maybe he'll he'll double down on it on Monday or he'll come out and apologize. But could be interesting to see how that kind of goes throughout the rest of the season with that relationship. Honey It's Saturday: I mean look, the vibes are pretty dark, you might as well just make darker. Guess that's what he's thinking. Sam: Yeah, and I I'll tell you what's also dark. The vibes down in Austin, Texas, after the Red River rivalry or shootout, as some would like to call it, came down Honey It's Saturday: There you go. Sam: to a game-winning field goal field goal by Oklahoma's kicker. Oklahoma ended up winning this game 27-24. Would like to give Mitch a shout out, as this was his hot take of the week that Oklahoma was going to take this game into the fourth quarter and be competitive. He didn't say they were gonna outright win. but he was pretty spot on with how this game unfolded and Oklahoma ended up coming out with a win. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I think one of the big stories this week was everyone was looking at the quarterback numbers and they realized, hold on, we've been talking a lot about John Mateer and how bad he's been, but he's got pretty much identical numbers to this guy over here in Austin, who's leading the number one team in the country. Where did that come from? And Arch made some incredible plays in this game. He really did. Cam Coleman made some big plays. Arch also made some very critical mistakes. And this game just came down to who made the more critical mistakes. And thus far in the season, John Matir has been that guy. In the Georgia game, critical mistakes. In the Michigan game, critical mistakes. To his credit, he didn't have a world beater game, but he took care of the football this week. And at the end of the day, that's what ended up mattering. Arch critical pick six in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma also had a special teams touchdown in this game. Those are the type of things they were gonna need if they were gonna come away with a win. I just think And look, Texas is an incredible football team, very talented, and this is a rivalry setting. Anything can happen every single year. But I think this Texas team has a lot of questions. I think they've had a lot of questions to this point in the season, but people have been a little bit hesitant to ask them because they got the win over Ohio State. They got a big win on the road in Nealand. They were undefeated. They're ranked number one. I think now a lot of the questions are really going to start to get louder, and Sark's going have to answer them. Because the schedule, the schedule still got some meat on the bone for the rest of the year. So I I don't know. I think this was an eye-opening one for Texas, but I I don't think it necessarily shocked a lot of people either. Because I don't think they've looked like a put together football team to this point. So it's just a it's a tough one to figure out a a little bit. And I thought this was going to be a setting too where Colin Simmons was just going to eat, especially with Oklahoma having a lot of injuries on their offensive line. And it's not that he had a rough game. He made some incredible plays, but he wasn't as present consistently as I thought he was going to be going in. Sam: Yeah. I think Oklahoma did a really good job of kind of shifting everything away from Colin Simmons to kind of limit him as being a factor. which which Honey It's Saturday: Mm-hmm. Sam: props to them. They made the adjustment they needed to make. But I kinda wanna circle back to you with Texas and just the questions. Are you when you say questions, are you referring just to the quarterback position? Or are you kinda just all around to that whole team? 'Cause I mean, I think their defense is pretty dang good. Honey It's Saturday: No, their defense is is very good. So the questions would not be centered around their defense, but it would be offense, offense oriented. And I yes, I think a lot of that centers on Arch and who he is, but I I don't think I don't think that's it. I think that they Cam Coleman made some big plays yesterday. That was that was good to see because to this point in the season they just had not been a big play offense. So they need that. But I still think they need more of that. I think their run game needs more of that. I think their offensive line needs to show a little bit more. They haven't always given Arch the best circumstances to succeed. But yeah, I would say a hundred percent the biggest question mark is Arch. I would say it's the quarterback position. Is is he the guy to lead them to that playoff and national championship? I I don't know. I haven't seen it. I've seen flashes, but I haven't seen it consistently. Sam: Yeah. I yeah, I I would have to agree for you there. And Oklahoma, I mean, where where do you think they go the rest of the year? Now they're sitting at three and two with a loss to Georgia. they have another loss that to Michigan that doesn't really look like that great of a loss now. But like this is a big s rivalry win that is huge for probably their team and just the locker room and where Honey It's Saturday: I mean, as far as Sam: they're at right now. Honey It's Saturday: as far as resume goes, not only did you beat your rival, you beat the number one team in the country. So Sam: Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: I mean, yeah, does that flip their season? Does it is it a confidence boost that they needed? Who who knows? Maybe Mateir turns around and you know becomes more the guy that we expected him to be. I think everything's still in front of him, but I I don't know. I it's a rivalry game, it's a huge win. I still need more answers from the Oklahoma side too, because if this is their recipe to win games where you need special teams plays and you need defensive scores. I don't think that's a recipe for success consistently throughout the year. Sam: No. And all all three phases or all those other two phases outside of the offense for Oklahoma have played great this year. They have Honey It's Saturday: Mm-hmm. Sam: an awesome kicker, obviously blocked a punt. Defensively, they are just unbelievable. So I mean, if they can just figure out something on offense to keep them in this game in the end games, I think that'll be crucial. But again, again, Oklahoma plays Kentucky this week. Oklahoma starts as a six and a half point favorite over Kentucky, which kind of seems wild to me, but obviously Vegas knows something, but Texas goes plays Florida this week as well. So just maybe a potential good bounce back spot for Texas, but overall just a gr Honey It's Saturday: I know, the the Gators gave some trouble last year when they weren't supposed to. Sam: They did. I mean, that was a Billy Napier team that was on the way out. I think he got fired the week after they beat Texas. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah. How about Sam: So Honey It's Saturday: that? So we'll see. I mean, like you said, beginning of this podcast, we're we're really starting to find out college football, anything can happen week to week right now. Talent is a little bit more spread out. Sam: Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: which I mean it does make this more fun, makes it a little bit more difficult to predict. So perfect timing for us to start a podcast. but our our Sam: Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Honey It's Saturday: predictions, our predictions have been very up and down, but I think that's been true pretty much sport wide. So Sam: Yeah. And we were both off on this next game too. UCLA went into Eugene Oregon, came out with the win 17 to 15. both both quarterbacks or Ryola got benched, maybe the third quarter. Nico ended up getting hurt. was really impressed with UCLA on the line of scrimmage. That's where I thought the mismatch was just gonna be with the talent that Oregon has up front on both sides of the football comparative to UCLA. And UCLA came in there and just absolutely proved me wrong. Chesney has those guys rolling. They are able to run the football. Their running back is phenomenal. I think he's had some crazy stat of like four straight 100-yard games rushing. he's playing really good football. This UCLA team is the real deal, man. I think Chesney's got these guys rolling. And I think I think a lot of people in the back of their mind are sitting at this, sitting at this point, looking at this win against Oregon and being like, is this is this the Kurt Signetti of of last year? Like, is he then is he this next coach that's taking a team that has not been successful in football in a very long time and turn them around on the snap of a finger. I don't know. I'm not gonna say that just quite yet, but man, do they look good yesterday. Honey It's Saturday: Well, you know who did say that before this game even happened? Sam: You? Honey It's Saturday: Dan Lanning in his press conference leading Sam: did he? Honey It's Saturday: up to this game, he compared this UCLA team to last year's Indiana team. And so I think he got a little bit of a taste of his own medicine there. I mean, he built him up a little bit too much. And yeah, they they took it to Oregon physically. If you like physical football, defensive, you know, trenches were very entertaining. A lot of turnovers in this game. I mean, it was not pretty. It was ugly, multiple interceptions from both teams, multiple fumbles, especially on the Oregon side. I mean, That ball was like hot potato for a lot of this game. But it did make it very entertaining. And at the end of the day, Oregon just didn't make the plays they needed to. Ryola gets benched Sam: No. Honey It's Saturday: in this game. Nico Amaliava gets hurt in this game. I mean, it really was the definition of just a a rock fight. Like that's what it felt like. This game felt like a rock fight. But for UCLA, if you're able to go to Eugene and face a program with all of that talent, a program that, you know, Dan Lenning wants to build this off physicality. Like, A very physical football program. And if you're able to come out on top on the road in a game like that, I know it wasn't pretty. I don't care. That says a lot to me about who you are as a football team. So I think this was a statement from UCLA. And I just think Oregon, that's that's disappointing. Can't let it happen. I know UCLA is a good team, but you need it. Your back's against the wall already. Can't let this happen. And they they need Dante more healthy quick. Sam: Yeah, they do. I I was very disappointed in Rayolo. I think granted UCLA has a really good defense, but for the way he played against Southern Cal, the way he bounced back and filled in for Dante Moore, I mean, he's he was a good quarterback in Nebraska. It's not like this dude is like just a backup quarterback that had to come and fill in and put us in a tough spot. Like he's been in a lot of very hostile, tough games. Like he he has all the experience necessary and he just didn't co he just didn't live up to it. This was his moment to kind of justify his reason for going to Oregon of hey, I want to learn, I want to get developed. If I have to sit behind Dante Moore for a year, that's great. Obviously whatever what happened to Dante Moore was awful. I hope it seems like he's gonna play again this year, but to have this opportunity and just kind of have it get squandered like that, just just very disappointing from a quarterback that's played a lot of football. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I completely agree with you. I I find that very frustrating. And I do think, you know, Dante more practiced this week. He just didn't play leading up to it. I I think if you're an Oregon fan, you're pretty hopeful that Dante can get back this upcoming weekend. Sam: Yeah. Yeah, I agree. Honey It's Saturday: We got a quarterback that's looking really good that we need to talk about next. Somebody that I've been high on, a program that I I couldn't get Sam on the bandwagon with last week. And I don't know if he's going to be there yet. He doesn't have to be. That's up to him. But Houston got a really good win on the road at Kansas State this week, 35 16. Connor Wigman leads the country in total touchdowns. He's been balling. Their defense stepped up this week against that Colin Klein offense. What were your thoughts here? Sam: Man, I was the one person out of the four of us that picked Kansas State to win this game. This game was in Manhattan, Kansas. I had my Kansas State gear ready to go. Like I had a buddy that worked for Kansas State this past year, sent me a nice little care box with some great Kansas State gear. Like I was full on prepared to come in here with this gear on, proven a point. And man, do they let me down. Houston, I I am on board. It took me a while. I apologize for the way that I have treated you. I apologize for the lack of respect. It's embarrassing. It's a lack of knowledge on my part. you guys went into Manhattan and just handled business, controlled all aspects of the football game. Just a great win in a tough environment. So really just I apologize. Honey It's Saturday: You know what? Apology accepted. I'm not a Houston fan, but I'm assuming they'll accept your apology. Look, it's never too late. And Sam: Yeah, accept it for them. Honey It's Saturday: hey, look, it's not like your your questions were crazy questions. So I I don't think it was ridiculous for you to have the stance that you did. I just think Houston went out there and made a little bit of a statement this week. And they've got a huge one coming up this next week, too. So that'll be very fun to track and see what goes down there. like I said, Wigman leads the country in total touchdowns. He's playing really good football. I their defense stepped up. They held K-State to 117 rushing yards this week. That's a really good running offense. I I don't Sam: Says a lot. Honey It's Saturday: know. I mean, yeah, they held Avery Johnson to under 200 yards. I just look, and here's the other thing. People didn't talk about a whole lot going into this. Wigman, as an AM fan, watching Marcel Reed play right now, it's like, man, we let that guy go. He didn't have the greatest of years at AM. He had some struggles. There was a reason he got benched, but guess who made the decision to bench Wigman at AM and play Marcel Reed? Sam: Is that Jumbo? Honey It's Saturday: That was Colin Klein. And guess who? Sam: Was it really? Honey It's Saturday: Guess who Connor Wigman just beat this weekend in in Manhattan? Colin Klein. So that was a big one. Sam: Colin Klein. That was personal. I didn't think about that. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, that was a big one for him personally. So I know he really enjoyed that. Sam: Huh. I'm surprised we didn't talk about that last week. I didn't that that that little comparison and the tidbit and part of their past, that that that was a pretty big part of that game, I imagine, for Wakeman. Honey It's Saturday: definitely. You know he felt that. So good for him to get that win. Another team that it was great to see them get this win. Kentucky, you called this one, I believe. I believe you called this outright, Sam: No. Honey It's Saturday: did you not? Sam: No. I I remember coming on this podcast last week and talking to Mitch and telling him I was sitting in bed with Cameron, watching Dancing with the Stars, going through our picks for this week, and I said, the only one that I'm feeling very hesitant on what to do is I want to pick Kentucky outright. I want to do it, but I I I feel like I have to go LSU just because they are just a little bit talent-wise better. But I'm gonna pick Kentucky to be my honey. It's in the budget lock of the week. So I got that part secured. But looking back, I wish I would have just trusted my gut. Kentucky, Will Stein, do it again in overtime, beat Kentucky or beat LSU 35 to 34. Literally the exact same score as the last week against South Carolina. The exact same scenario where they go into overtime. LSU scores first, Kentucky bounces right back, scores, and Will Stein just does his put it up for two, goes for two. Shifts all the guys out, quarterback draw right up the middle. Kroger field gets stormed. Just just an amazing game. Kentucky and Will Stein. I I am all aboard Will Stein and just just that that team, the culture he's building there. He's a young guy that loves being able to be around it. He's a true players coach. And for me, I I was talking with Mitch about this yesterday. I love a coach that wants to go back to the school that he grew up loving and wants them to be turned around. Because that's a part of that's a part of him. Like that's a part of his story. Like he grew up a huge Kentucky fan, has like there was a picture of him yesterday and the the old K logo that they used yesterday that his son was wearing the exact same sweater on the field yesterday. So it was an awesome like father-son moment for him, but just just somebody that takes a ton of pride in that school. And I I'm a Tennessee guy, so Kentucky's always been a bit a pretty big rival, but it makes me really ex excited to see. Just somebody come back to their school that they love so much and turn it around, especially that quickly. so I'm really happy for them. LSU on the other hand, just brutal way to lose the game. They're now sitting here four and two. Like they don't have much more room for margin. defensively, a little bit disappointed in Blake Baker. think he is a great defensive mind, but I feel like he he had his guys out of out of sorts a little bit on on Saturday, and especially even that last part of the the overtime. Kentucky missed two straight field goals before they finally made one to be able to send it to overtime. And can Kenny Minchie just kind of drove them right down the field to kick that game tying field out of go to overtime. so I l two two programs that are in I feel like very different spots right now. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I agree. This was huge for Kentucky. They continue to prove me wrong. I I've never been a Will Stein hater, but I just I guess I thought it would take them a little bit longer to get it going. I d wasn't a huge Kenny Minchie fan going into the year, but this is one for me where like you your Houston take, you had to kind of walk it back a little bit. I've got to walk back a little bit on Kentucky here. They they continue to prove me wrong. They but they're doing it in in very tough, gritty fashion. Like last week, you get the overtime win, come back on the road at South Carolina. This week, another overtime win against LSU. They just, they're winning games. They're finding ways to do it. the turnover margin is he like for LSU, one of their main questions going into this game so far is can Levitt take care of the ball? Because that's been their really their one of their only problems offensively is turnovers, and Levitt's been a significant part of it. He turned the ball over twice through an interception that was pretty critical. He fumbled the ball as well, and that really ended up being the difference in this game. Props to that kicker for missing those two. Opportunities in the fourth quarter, coming back out there and just drilling the tying field goal to send it to overtime. Good for him. props to Will Stein for the way that he built up belief in that kid after the second miss, patted him on the head after his second miss, told him he believed in him, loved that moment, turned out to be huge. but yeah, this is very fun. It's a Kentucky program, I think starting to demand some respect. Sam: Yeah, no, I agree. And as Kentucky was my honey, it's in the budget lock of the week, Mitch has provided me with a bubbly, which is a sparkling water, the cherry flavor. Mitch and I had a a lunch after church today with kind of a leadership for those who serve the middle school and high school youth. So I already had had my soda of the day. So I decided to go sparkling water today as my drink of the week. So Mitch, I appreciate it. I am going to Honey It's Saturday: You're welcome. Sam: crack this open right in front of the microphone. Honey It's Saturday: That was good crack. And the the reason that he's drinking that is because my lock of the week did not hit. And I apologize. I'll I'll you know, I'll hit my notes, I'll do better, I'll do better research. But my lock of the week was the undefeated Duke Blue Devils to cover seven point spread against Georgia Tech, who's been a really struggling program to this point this year. And Duke just went ahead and laid an egg and actually lost that game. So not sure what happened there, but I apologize. So I hope your bubbly task. Sam: It it does taste very good. And I and I didn't mean to get off the Kentucky LSU game right there, but was just kind of feeling a little bit thirsty and decided to good time to give it a little crack. again. Honey It's Saturday: That's okay. We need we need all of the beverages we can have right now to make sure that our our lips are ready to talk about this next one because this next one was huge. Biggest one of the week. Alabama, Georgia, top 10 matchup, two top dogs in the SEC. The dogs came out on top, 20 to 17. Man, we've already talked about it a little bit. I I've I've certainly got some thoughts of my own. Sam, I want to hear your thoughts. Sam: Yeah, I I don't know how you can walk away from this game and not see two of the best two teams in the country. Honestly. Like, I think Gunnar Stockton had some moments where he probably made some mistakes, but he consistently just gets his dogs in the right spot to be able to win the football game. Georgia defensively is just going to be Georgia defensively. This is the first kind of spot for Keelan Russell where I would probably say it was like his first true test. I don't I don't know if that's unfair to say with who they've played against so far, but George is one of the best defenses in the country. you saw a little bit of his youth there. You saw some of the times where he was getting flustered by the pressure, kind of had a little bit of lack, lack of zadaisical with his footwork. so I I mean, granted, I think there was some officiating that we already touched on in the beginning of this game that probably caused Alabama to honestly lose this game, or at least maybe get to overtime or something like that. but Georgia just continued to battle. Both I mean, just two very hard fought physical football games, football teams. The I mean, there were so many different moments in this game where you saw dudes just get trucked from blocking, the linebacker just flat out decked the running back. Like these were two teams that were really trying to send a message. I think for just the for the other team, but also for the rest of the country of like, hey, we're we're not to be messing messed with. I mean, Mitch and I talked about this yesterday as well. I think Alabama and Georgia are this isn't their first matchup. I think they're gonna play again at the end of the year, whether that's in the playoff the SEC championship. But these are two teams that are here to stay. And just congratulations to Georgia on pulling it out, going into Bryant Denny, getting the win. I said it last week. This is the game where Kirby Smart kind of gets the monkey off his back. He struggled against Alabama throughout his entire career. He finally beat them last year in the SEC championship. But to be able to go into Tuscaloosa, Alabama and get the win the way that they did, job well done. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I mean, thank goodness by the way, that the weather ended up being fine, a little bit of rain, some wind, but like we were able to have this game the way it should be because it was a great sight to behold. I mean, it was everything you'd want it to be. Like you said, it was physical. It was two very good football teams going at each other. And you could tell that they're two quality teams. Like Yeah, I mean, it's what you want when you get Georgia and Alabama in the regular season. I thought Keelan Russell, like you said, yes, he showed some of his youth. Georgia threw some things at him that he hadn't seen before. He was strip sacked on the opening drive of game. That was huge. But he also made some plays throughout this game where you're like, that kid is special. I think Sam: Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: Keelan Russell is going to be a very special quarterback and he's still young. He's still developing. I I don't know. You hate for Officials to get involved in the outcome of a game. So I'm not going to talk about that anymore. We talked about it plenty at the beginning of this podcast. At the end of the day, Gunnar Stockton played really well. He played clean football. Georgia's receivers proved that they can play. I mean, I think wide receiver room, we knew it was good, but that's something that people always bring up when they talk about Georgia because they don't have that key guy that you would think of for explosive plays. They did more than enough this week. The tight ends got involved. I thought Georgia look like an incredible football team. So, you know, all other factors aside, Georgia played well enough to win this game and they come out on top. I I look, I I want to talk about the the rest of this game. I do want to go back to one thing with Kentucky LSU, just because the beginning of the podcast, you Sam: Hmm. Honey It's Saturday: asked me my stance on the officiating. The one game I did not mention was this Kentucky LSU game. It was another one that I thought was kind of ridiculous at the very end of a game. There's a very clear false start on that two point conversion and ended up winning the game for Kentucky. And it was like this timeout situation, whatever it was, it Sam: Yeah. Honey It's Saturday: it led to the game winning two point conversion, not saying Kentucky wouldn't have won the game anyways. That was just another example that I didn't bring up. So covered that. Pivoting back to this Georgia Bama game, I agree with you. I think we're gonna see these teams play again. I think these are the two best teams in the SEC. You could make an argument that right now they're the two best teams in the country, but I mean Out of respect for the Big Ten and some other teams out there, I think I'm not gonna go that far yet. We'll see when our Honey of Saturday rankings come out this week. But yeah, I I just thought this was a great football game. And at the end of the day, that Bama defense has looked great this year. Georgia put up four hundred and fifty yards on them. So I think they deserve to win. Sam: Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I mean, just a just a great college football matchup. I mean, that that game, college game day, that environment. Like you said, I'm glad the storm was kind of able to take away. Those Honey It's Saturday: Mm-hmm. Sam: are the kind of games that you go to Alabama and you go to Georgia for are four moments like that. They alluded to that with Keelan Russell. He was at that game two years ago when Ryan Ryan Williams, Coleman Williams, excuse me, went off and had that big game. He's like, This is why I want to come to Alabama. Obviously his team didn't come out on the right end of that, but I mean that You it's it's hard to not just watch that and just have pure pure joy on your face, no matter who wins the game, from from a non biased, not Alabama, Georgia fan. Honey It's Saturday: Absolutely. And the environment was incredible. I loved it. I think this is the moment in our podcast where we're going to need everyone to just take a couple deep breaths and then sit with Sam and I in silence because we do have to, out of respect for a certain college football program, just take a take a breather, give them that moment. And this week, that's going to be John Sumraw the Florida Gators. So can we please just take a second? Thank you guys. We appreciate it. I know they appreciate it. What is going on in Gainesville? I mean, three weeks ago, or two weeks ago, I guess it was, Ole Miss comes to town, top 10 team, and get dismantled by the Gators. Props everyone in the media up, props all their fan base up. They think they got something going. Immediately go into Como and get obliterated by Missouri. Missouri's a good football team, so maybe you're thinking, okay, it was a letdown spot. And then They have South Carolina, a wounded animal who's got talent, but they are a wounded animal walking in to your home in Gainesville at the swamp. And they beat you pretty handily. Like what what is your take on Florida at this point, Sam? What do you think is going on? Sam: I said this last week when Missouri manhandled the Gators. I said, I think Missouri just gave everybody who's going to play Florida the blueprint on how to beat them. And I think that's the case again yesterday. I think you forced Philo to throw the football. I think you shut down Jaden Ball at the running game. South Carolina did a really good job of doing that. And I I just don't Florida just I've never seen a team look like that high of like that good of a football program to like within a matter of three weeks look just non-competitive against the South a very wounded South Carolina football team who, by the way, Honey It's Saturday: Mm-hmm. Sam: I know this is a moment of silence for Florida, but how frustrating do you have to be if you're a South Carolina fan? To see them put it all together like that yesterday, but already have three losses, like that is what everybody has been Thinking South Carolina should be. It's the same thing every single year. Like those guys have all the talent. You have a first round draft pick a quarterback. You have a first round draft pick at receiver, a first round draft pick on the defensive side of the football. Like you have all the pieces and you just you put it together and you go out, you go into Gainesville and get a massive win. But now it's like you already have three losses. The fire beamer talks have started. Like, why can't it just be like that all year long? Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I mean, that's a great point. I think if you're a Carolina fan, you enjoy the win, but you're also you don't know how to feel. Cause you're right. I mean, they've got everything they need to be a good football team and they're sitting there at three and three after watching that performance and knowing what they're capable of. So I agree with you. I know that's gotta be so frustrating. And from Florida perspective, I think you're right about the blueprint thing. The only thing I'd say there is like it sounds easy. Yeah, make follow throw and shut down ball. But I'm sure that's what Ole Miss thought too. And they just couldn't shut him down. I'm sure that's what Auburn thought too, and they couldn't shut him down. I mean, at that point in the year, we had watched Jaden Ball just run over that Auburn defense and the Ole Miss defense. And I know their game plan wasn't, hey, let's just force them to run the ball. I know they were looking to stop. I know everyone knew that was the identity of the Florida offense, and they weren't able to stop it. And so when Missouri did, I thought that was a huge deal because I thought it said a lot more about Missouri's defense than it did about Florida's offense. And I think Missouri's defense proved again this week to be a very solid run defense against AM, not that AM has the greatest rushing attack, but the fact that South Carolina was able to go in and shut them down as well, that's where the concern starts creeping in if you're a Gators fan. Because you're really questioning what something more is going on here. And you're right. I mean, if that is the blueprint, and if they're not, they're just not as dominant in the trenches offensively as we thought they were, which clearly it looks like they're not. They could be in for a little bit of a long finish to the year and it is still year one. So you gotta give it some time in Gainsville. But yeah, that's that's unfortunate, frustrating for them. Sam: Yeah, I agree. And I again, I I've pointed to a lot of these games to where look at next week. We've talked about Florida's inability to run the football here these last two weeks against two good defensive lines, but they play Texas this week, who's arguably one of the best defensive lines in the entire country. Does Texas have a field day? Does Florida finally get get back into into where they're at offensively to kind of be able to run the football? I don't know. But we'll find out a lot more this week too. Honey It's Saturday: We sure will. We're gonna find out a lot more about a lot of teams this week. And we appreciate you guys sticking around with us. We love doing these recap shows. We love doing all of our shows. You guys are the best. I do have one question for you, one mailbag question before we hop off. You guys make sure that you're interacting with us on all of our social platforms on Instagram, TikTok, X. You can comment on YouTube, do whatever you want. We will watch, we will see it, and a lot of times we'll bring it up on the show. I got one question from Gabe Moen out in Texas this week. He's asking me, they unranked, he's talking about the AP poll. They unranked Oregon. Valid. I don't I don't think that's a surprise to anyone, but they move up UCLA nine spots for beating that now unranked team by two points. So they move up UCLA by nine for beating a team that is now unranked by two points. What are your thoughts there? Sam: Yeah, I think the logic doesn't necessarily make sense. when you think about it. If you're if you're gonna truly remove Oregon, that's one thing where it's kind of like, Okay, then how do you really grade that win? I think also there's a part of that that is more aligned with UCLA, I think is a better football team than we think that they are, which I think is also a true statement. If you look at where UCLA is at, they're at 12. Behind them is Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Iowa, Oklahoma State, USC, Houston, Wake, all those kind of teams. Like, I'm honestly okay with it. The logic behind it doesn't make, excuse me, doesn't make a ton of sense for me from how they've kind of done their rankings throughout this season so far. But I just think they think UCLA is better than what they were giving them credit. Honey It's Saturday: Yeah, I mean, I kind of agree with you. I'm always, I'm also always a proponent of this. Like, I think we overreact to this stuff sometimes, but I think you have to give credit to teams for the wins that they got. And the win that UCLA just got was a ranked win over a very talented Oregon team on the road. And they looked very physical in the process. They very much looked like they belong on the field. They dominated Oregon physically. And I think you have to give them credit for that. even if that means it's Oregon's second loss and you're going to drop him out of the poll. I have no problem with them giving UCLA credit for that win. I also think sometimes we lean too much on prior rankings for our next ones. Like I have no problem with you having an epiphany coming to a realization that maybe you were wrong about a certain team and correcting it the next week. Like I have no issue with UCLA being at 12. So I'm kind of with you there. Sam: Yeah. But we'll see. I mean, I think I think we're getting pretty close to where the the college football committee is gonna start releasing their polls. So again, Honey It's Saturday: Mm-hmm. Sam: that's that's really the poll where it really starts to matter where your ranking is. Right now it Honey It's Saturday: That's not true. The Honey of Saturday poll matters. Sam: well everybody knows like that's where you need to go if you want the best college football ranking that's out there. But for the meantime, we don't have it out. So they're just gonna have to stay tuned Honey It's Saturday: That's right. Sam: for next Thursday morning to see where we're we're at with our poll. Honey It's Saturday: That's right. Man. Well, I appreciate you guys. I hope everyone has a great few days in between the time that we've got on our podcast until our next one. Sam, I hope you have a great start to your week. we're looking forward to hopping back on. Sam: Yeah, absolutely. And I I think I think before we leave, if all of you guys could just just join us in in a quick prayer, gonna pray for Mitch as he's got his surgery tomorrow. So dear Heavenly Father, I just thank you for this day. Thank you for this ability for Mitch and I just to be able to to go to church this morning and just hear, hear your word and just allowing us to be able to just do this podcast every week, Lord. I just pray you lift up the surgeon tomorrow who's performing the surgery on Mitch. I just pray that you be with him and just allow him to perform a safe and just healthy surgery to allow Mitch to get back to his full ability with his shoulder, Lord. I just pray for his recovery and just the strength to be able to go into it just with trust in the doctors and just trust with you and the plan that you have for them. Lord, we love you and we praise you in Jesus name we pray. Amen. Honey It's Saturday: Amen. Thank you, man. I appreciate it. We'll see you guys soon. Sam: Yeah, man. Absolutely.
