Speaker 1: The time has come, so let out a cheer.
• 0:51
Speaker 2: It's like someone put a curse on this town. It
• 0:56
Speaker 2: all started when that kid drowned last summer. There's something
• 1:00
Speaker 2: in these woods, and all it knows how to do
• 1:04
  Speaker 2: is kill.
• 1:06
Speaker 1: The time has come, so let out a cheer.
• 1:11
  Speaker 2: Mommy's here.
• 1:11
Speaker 1: Camp Crystal Lake, oh, we love you. Hello, everyone, and
• 1:16
Speaker 1: welcome to the Culture Meltdown. I am one of your hosts,
• 1:18
Speaker 1: the host of the CultureCast, Chris Stashew, and I'm joined,
• 1:21
Speaker 1: as always, by the other host of this show. He's
• 1:24
Speaker 1: the host of Movie Meltdown over at weirdingwaymedia.com, the newest
• 1:27
Speaker 1: show added to weirdingwaymedia.com, Brian Renfro.
• 1:30
  Speaker 2: How's it going?
• 1:33
Speaker 1: Good. Better than people that are chasing after Linda Cardinelli's
• 1:38
Speaker 1: Pamela Voorhees, or should I say Pamela... twittering what the
• 1:44
Speaker 1: what the fuck is going on in this show brian
• 1:46
Speaker 1: because you're confused already good lord yeah on this show
• 1:51
Speaker 1: brian and i like to talk about things that uh
• 1:53
Speaker 1: we want to talk about and we have not explored
• 1:56
Speaker 1: the world of tv uh i have not done it
• 1:59
Speaker 1: on my feed before but i'm super excited to because
• 2:02
Speaker 1: tv is something that i watch just about as much
• 2:04
  Speaker 1: as i watch movies i watch it's about 50 50
• 2:06
Speaker 1: in a lot of ways i watch a lot of
• 2:07
Speaker 1: stuff and it's either tv or movies there's Or I
• 2:10
Speaker 1: guess YouTube videos, but that's kind of its own thing.
• 2:12
Speaker 1: It's kind of hard to critique. But TV and movies
• 2:15
Speaker 1: are kind of it. And so I'm so glad we
• 2:16
Speaker 1: get to talk about movies most of the time. But
• 2:19
Speaker 1: I'm even more excited to talk about TV because this
• 2:22
Speaker 1: is a TV show based on a movie. And it's
• 2:26
Speaker 1: a prequel TV show to a franchise that has been
• 2:30
Speaker 1: languishing in... courtroom hell for the last, oh my God,
• 2:36
Speaker 1: five years now because of the rights being similar to
• 2:41
Speaker 1: another show that the gentleman who was going to make
• 2:44
Speaker 1: this show initially did not get to make it. But
• 2:47
Speaker 1: his other show has also similar courtroom issues with who
• 2:52
Speaker 1: owns what. We're talking about Crystal Lake, a show that
• 2:56
Speaker 1: was originally created by Brian Fuller, who created Hannibal, which
• 2:59
Speaker 1: is a show that I'm talking about in reference to
• 3:01
Speaker 1: The issues that who owns what came into with this show,
• 3:05
Speaker 1: because this show is a prequel. to Friday the 13th,
• 3:09
Speaker 1: the first movie. That is specific because this is a
• 3:14
Speaker 1: prequel story about Pamela Voorhees and Jason the Child. Not
• 3:19
Speaker 1: Jason the Killer. That's a character that's owned by, I guess,
• 3:24
Speaker 1: the Jason universe people. That's the Jason with a hockey mask.
• 3:29
Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, if you've seen Scream, the answer to
• 3:32
Speaker 1: who's the killer in Friday the 13th is Pamela Voorhees,
• 3:36
Speaker 1: not Jason. She's killing people because her son drowns at
• 3:41
Speaker 1: Camp Crystal Lake. The third movie, three and a half,
• 3:45
Speaker 1: three and a half, right? I mean, it's like halfway through.
• 3:47
Speaker 2: The third movie. It's middle of the third movies before
• 3:50
Speaker 2: we get the Jason we all know and I guess love.
• 3:52
  Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, I was about
• 3:54
Speaker 1: to say that's that's it. We'll get to that here
• 3:56
Speaker 1: in a second. But this is a prequel to Pamela
• 3:59
Speaker 1: Voorhees's story about her son, Jason, drowning in Camp Crystal Lake,
• 4:05
Speaker 1: which is really just the first movie. And this is
• 4:08
Speaker 1: all specific because this show is about Pamela Voorhees, not
• 4:13
Speaker 1: Jason Voorhees. The killer as we, like you said, all
• 4:17
Speaker 1: know and love, which is important.
• 4:19
Speaker 2: Which is kind of when I got interested. Like I
• 4:21
Speaker 2: heard a while ago, they were toying with the idea
• 4:25
Speaker 2: of making a prequel-y Crystal Lake kind of a thing.
• 4:28
Speaker 2: And I was like, ugh, whatever. Because they always want
• 4:31
Speaker 2: to come up with all of that. And we can
• 4:33
Speaker 2: definitely dig into that as we go on.
• 4:34
  Speaker 1: But.
• 4:35
Speaker 2: then when i found out linda was involved i was
• 4:39
Speaker 2: like oh now now now we're talking because i'm always
• 4:43
Speaker 2: kind of on board with her even in the weird
• 4:46
Speaker 2: stuff she's ended up over the years i'm like she's
• 4:49
Speaker 2: she's always good in everything even the lesser projects she's
• 4:52
Speaker 2: the best part of it so i'm like well now
• 4:55
Speaker 2: at least they're not you know just throwing any random
• 4:58
Speaker 2: streaming actor in and like gonna make it work like
• 5:01
Speaker 2: they've bought in they've They brought in somebody who is
• 5:04
Speaker 2: a name and who is an actor that I actually
• 5:07
Speaker 2: think is good and respect. So now I'm kind of
• 5:10
Speaker 2: interested in the whole idea. So that just sort of
• 5:14
Speaker 2: floated there until I saw the first trailer and went, oh, no,
• 5:17
Speaker 2: I think we're going to have to talk about this.
• 5:18
Speaker 2: This looks like it's going to be good or bad,
• 5:20
  Speaker 2: interesting regardless.
• 5:23
Speaker 1: And so, yeah, on these next. Four episodes of Culture Meltdown.
• 5:29
Speaker 1: Brian and I will be talking about the eight episodes
• 5:32
Speaker 1: of the first season. I don't know if there's going
• 5:34
Speaker 1: to be a second. I haven't finished the show yet
• 5:36
Speaker 1: at this point in time. I've only watched the first
• 5:39
Speaker 1: four episodes because of the way we're recording things. So
• 5:42
Speaker 1: I don't know if there's going to be a second season.
• 5:43
Speaker 1: They haven't said, but we are covering at least this
• 5:46
Speaker 1: season or first season or only season of Crystal Lake
• 5:50
Speaker 1: over the next four episodes of Culture Meltdown, which is
• 5:53
Speaker 1: mine and Brian's crossover that we do on both of
• 5:56
Speaker 1: our feeds. So that's the way you can listen to
• 5:59
Speaker 1: us talking about it. We will be releasing them kind
• 6:01
Speaker 1: of piecemeal over the next couple of weeks and trying
• 6:04
Speaker 1: to take advantage of the kind of fervor around the show.
• 6:08
Speaker 1: There is a little bit of kind of chit chat
• 6:10
Speaker 1: around the show. I think the show is getting rather
• 6:12
Speaker 1: well received, which is nice. You mentioned something that or
• 6:16
Speaker 1: we haven't mentioned something, I guess, that's also important. This
• 6:19
Speaker 1: is an A24 thing, which I think also for a
• 6:22
Speaker 1: lot of people that brings in a crowd that may
• 6:26
Speaker 1: not have been watching Friday the 13th or may have
• 6:30
Speaker 1: even thought Friday the 13th is kind of dumb, which
• 6:34
Speaker 1: I feel like is part of maybe, you know, slasher
• 6:38
Speaker 1: movies get this kind of bad rap. So I wanted
• 6:39
Speaker 1: to ask you, Brian, very curious thoughts on Friday the 13th,
• 6:45
Speaker 1: the franchise, and then more specifically, Friday the 13th, the film,
• 6:50
Speaker 1: the first one, given that, again, like we've talked about already,
• 6:53
Speaker 1: this is a prequel thing. I mean, I guess this
• 6:56
Speaker 1: is a retelling of the first movie. I don't know
• 6:59
Speaker 1: what this is, but this is not anything to do
• 7:02
Speaker 1: with pretty much anything past the first movie of the franchise,
• 7:07
Speaker 1: as it were. But for me, I am assuming, and
• 7:09
Speaker 1: best I can tell, this is like Noah Hawley's Alien Earth.
• 7:13
Speaker 1: It's inspired by things we've seen before, but this is
• 7:16
Speaker 1: its own world timeline, whatever. We now live in a
• 7:20
Speaker 1: universe where people care about that kind of shit. This
• 7:23
Speaker 1: could have existed 20 years ago and it would have
• 7:25
Speaker 1: just been a thing. And we don't have to answer
• 7:28
Speaker 1: stupid fucking mythology or myth arcs or what are they changing?
• 7:31
Speaker 1: And is that okay? Like this is its own fucking thing.
• 7:34
Speaker 1: Just like the Fargo TV show is its own fucking thing.
• 7:37
Speaker 1: And I'm okay with that, but I want to know
• 7:40
Speaker 1: your kind of thoughts on Friday the 13th completely, I guess.
• 7:45
Speaker 2: It's also interesting that this is A24 on TV because
• 7:50
Speaker 2: that's not normally what people know A24 for. So that
• 7:55
Speaker 2: is an interesting new little area that they're, I don't
• 7:58
Speaker 2: know how much they've done in the past, but it's
• 8:00
Speaker 2: definitely not their main area that they're known for. So
• 8:03
Speaker 2: that's also kind of interesting. As far as Friday the 13th, again,
• 8:07
Speaker 2: I've from before I was conscious of it, I've been
• 8:14
Speaker 2: watching horror movies. So like it just as far back
• 8:19
Speaker 2: as I can remember, I was watching horror movies. So
• 8:22
Speaker 2: I grew up watching all of the slashers in general.
• 8:25
Speaker 2: I saw most of them at home on TV. I
• 8:29
Speaker 2: was watching stuff on cable. I probably shouldn't have been.
• 8:33
Speaker 2: And then renting stuff as the, as I got a
• 8:36
Speaker 2: little older and was renting my own things. So I
• 8:38
Speaker 2: watched a It's one of those, I feel like the
• 8:43
Speaker 2: slashers in particular for horror fans became that thing that
• 8:49
Speaker 2: we all, it was sort of like collecting baseball cards,
• 8:52
Speaker 2: you know, not to mix it with sports because that's
• 8:55
Speaker 2: not normally a geek thing, but it was one of
• 8:57
Speaker 2: those that like, well, you had to, you had to
• 8:59
Speaker 2: have that one. Like I had to know what happened
• 9:01
Speaker 2: in Friday the 13th part seven. So when I get
• 9:04
Speaker 2: together with the other dorks, we can make these references
• 9:07
Speaker 2: about that. Or I know the, the overall story arc
• 9:10
Speaker 2: with Jason, like, well, what happened in five? Cause it's
• 9:13
Speaker 2: not like the rest of them. So You almost had
• 9:16
Speaker 2: to collect them all so that you would get the
• 9:19
Speaker 2: overall zigs and zags, ups and downs of this crazy
• 9:23
Speaker 2: story as it told all of the different slashers, all
• 9:26
Speaker 2: of the reboots and reinventions and all of that stuff.
• 9:29
Speaker 2: It's like you needed to just sort of watch them
• 9:33
Speaker 2: all as you went along to sort of create your
• 9:36
Speaker 2: own personal story. system of horror or your own little
• 9:42
Speaker 2: world of horror that you knew what you knew about
• 9:45
Speaker 2: horror and it would all just sort of gel in
• 9:47
Speaker 2: your brain and you would create you know everything you
• 9:50
Speaker 2: knew and liked about horror movies so that's where mine
• 9:53
Speaker 2: all happened it's like I watched all of those over
• 9:55
Speaker 2: the years I don't think I missed any of them
• 9:58
Speaker 2: along the way and then, uh, I eventually went back
• 10:04
Speaker 2: and I've picked up a few here and there, but
• 10:06
Speaker 2: it's still, it's still probably a lesser of the slashers
• 10:11
Speaker 2: for me. No offense. I still like it. It's a
• 10:15
Speaker 2: solid horror movie. Anytime you see one, even the dumber ones,
• 10:20
Speaker 2: it's always there to deliver exactly what you want from
• 10:23
Speaker 2: a Friday the 13th movie. But again, is he the
• 10:26
Speaker 2: most charismatic slasher out there? I don't know. I, as
• 10:31
Speaker 2: previously mentioned on a for another episode. I was a
• 10:35
Speaker 2: sucker for Michael Myers from the beginning. I think he
• 10:38
Speaker 2: had such a cool like image and a vibe that
• 10:41
Speaker 2: he brought to it. Like he's kind of top tier.
• 10:44
Speaker 2: I liked Freddie when he started cause he was dark
• 10:46
Speaker 2: and weird. He got super silly, but like those were
• 10:49
Speaker 2: probably more of my go-to. And then Jason was always
• 10:52
Speaker 2: just Jason and like, he just did his Jason thing.
• 10:55
Speaker 2: So Again, it was not my go-to for slasher, but
• 11:01
Speaker 2: it was always there and always a solid slasher. So
• 11:06
Speaker 2: I've watched most of those all the way up through
• 11:10
Speaker 2: the reboot, which died, which is also, I think, why
• 11:14
Speaker 2: we had such a long period of them not attempting
• 11:17
Speaker 2: to do anything else because nobody cared about that reboot movie.
• 11:21
Speaker 2: And then it's just sort of satched with them trying
• 11:25
Speaker 2: to decide what to do with it until this new,
• 11:27
Speaker 2: let's make a TV show idea came about.
• 11:30
Speaker 1: I'm super disappointed that that reboot movie never went anywhere.
• 11:35
Speaker 1: I just like to say that out loud. Yeah, I
• 11:39
Speaker 1: liked it. I liked it about as much as I liked... Well,
• 11:44
Speaker 1: I don't know. I was going to say about as
• 11:45
Speaker 1: much as I liked the Nightmare on Elm Street one,
• 11:47
Speaker 1: but I think that the Nightmare on Elm Street one
• 11:49
  Speaker 1: was so.
• 11:51
Speaker 1: Just exactly what I was expecting it to be. It
• 11:54
Speaker 1: was just a reboot. Like at least the Friday the
• 11:56
Speaker 1: 13th one was different. It did have something more than
• 12:00
Speaker 1: nothing in terms of originality.
• 12:03
Speaker 2: I feel like Nightmare also, there was something just off
• 12:07
Speaker 2: about the whole vibe of it. Like not just that
• 12:11
Speaker 2: as much as I like that actor, like he's not
• 12:13
Speaker 2: Robert Englund, so it's hard to do that anyway. But
• 12:15
Speaker 2: even the kids, it was just a weird vibe. I
• 12:19
Speaker 2: remember when it came out, we did a whole episode
• 12:21
Speaker 2: and like, that was my main thing. It was like,
• 12:23
Speaker 2: it does like, these are the most not real kids ever.
• 12:28
Speaker 2: Like they're not real high school kids. And maybe it
• 12:31
Speaker 2: was saying something about that next generation that was coming along.
• 12:34
Speaker 2: But I was like, that was my main issue with
• 12:36
Speaker 2: that attempt at a reboot was like, like in the
• 12:39
Speaker 2: first Nightmare on Elm Street, like third, high school kids
• 12:43
Speaker 2: and they're hooking up at her house. And like half
• 12:46
Speaker 2: of the time, it's like those two trying to get
• 12:49
Speaker 2: together and hook up. Like it's the most devoid of sex.
• 12:54
Speaker 2: And like, even just them, like having contact with each
• 12:58
Speaker 2: other in that reboot of nightmare on Elm street. Like
• 13:01
Speaker 2: it's so not like humans function. It's so cold and
• 13:06
Speaker 2: detached that I feel like that's also part of why
• 13:08
Speaker 2: that one didn't work. Whereas the Friday the 13th, the
• 13:11
Speaker 2: characters were OK. Again, it's not amazing, but like it
• 13:16
Speaker 2: did a decent job of Friday the 13th. And it
• 13:19
Speaker 2: did sort of try to put its own spin on
• 13:21
Speaker 2: it and do sort of a retelling of one in
• 13:24
Speaker 2: two of the old series crammed into a new sort
• 13:27
Speaker 2: of doctored up story. but it was fine. I'm, I'm,
• 13:31
Speaker 2: I would think, you know, there's been way worse slasher
• 13:34
Speaker 2: movies that got six more sequels after that. So I
• 13:37
Speaker 2: don't know that it was so bad. It didn't need
• 13:39
Speaker 2: any more bad sequels, but that's what happened.
• 13:43
Speaker 1: I really like Rooney Mara as an actress, but she
• 13:48
Speaker 1: was beyond miscast in that movie. And it's, it's such
• 13:53
Speaker 1: a shame because like you, you, like you've already said,
• 13:55
Speaker 1: like I, I wanted to like that Nightmare on Elm
• 13:58
Speaker 1: Street movie because Nightmare on Elm Street for me is
• 14:01
Speaker 1: my franchise. It's like that and Scream and then Hellraiser.
• 14:04
Speaker 1: Like Friday the 13th for me. I have seen the
• 14:08
Speaker 1: first one one time. That's it. I'm probably the best
• 14:12
Speaker 1: and worst, depending on who you ask, person to watch
• 14:15
Speaker 1: this show, because I really don't have any brand affiliation
• 14:19
Speaker 1: with Jason. For me, the Jason movies that I've seen
• 14:23
Speaker 1: that I've enjoyed, the reboot with Jared Padalecki, because I'm
• 14:27
Speaker 1: a supernatural guy. The first four seasons of that show
• 14:29
Speaker 1: were first two or three, I'm trying to remember exactly
• 14:32
Speaker 1: when the show effectively like felt like the end was,
• 14:36
Speaker 1: it was like whenever the yellow eyed demon died, I
• 14:38
Speaker 1: think I was like, it.
• 14:39
Speaker 2: Was all angels and demons. It became such a huge
• 14:43
  Speaker 2: part of it.
• 14:44
Speaker 1: I was like, damn it.
• 14:45
  Speaker 2: I don't even know what's going on anymore. I tuned
• 14:47
Speaker 2: out early on, I think just for no real reason.
• 14:49
Speaker 2: I just got sidetracked and busy doing other stuff. And
• 14:52
Speaker 2: like after the first season or two, I wasn't keeping
• 14:55
Speaker 2: up with it anymore, but I would see just enough
• 14:56
Speaker 2: every once in a while to be like, wait, what are.
• 14:58
Speaker 1: We doing now? And then by the time it ended
• 15:01
Speaker 1: during the fucking pandemic, it was on for 14 years, dude.
• 15:06
Speaker 1: It was, it was insane how long the show was on.
• 15:09
Speaker 1: It ended, it ended during the pandemic. And you can
• 15:11
Speaker 1: tell by the time the show ends, because there's like, whoa,
• 15:14
Speaker 1: Sam and Dean are talking to each other and they're
• 15:16
Speaker 1: the only ones. It's like, there's not anyone else within
• 15:21
Speaker 1: earshot even. And so for me, I, I have like
• 15:26
Speaker 1: zero brand affiliation for Friday the 13th. So going into
• 15:30
Speaker 1: this show, like I wasn't going to watch the show,
• 15:33
  Speaker 1: not because I don't like Friday the 13th. I wasn't
• 15:36
Speaker 1: going to watch the show because Friday the 13th is
• 15:38
Speaker 1: just not, if it was a Nightmare on Elm Street
• 15:40
Speaker 1: TV show, I probably wouldn't have watched it either. Because
• 15:42
Speaker 1: at this point, like a lot of these legacy brands
• 15:46
Speaker 1: are just kind of treading water, really. Like, Hellraiser, eh?
• 15:52
Speaker 1: I haven't seen the one with the female Hellraiser.
• 15:57
Speaker 2: It doesn't have Doug. I'm not even wasting my time.
• 15:59
  Speaker 1: I don't know. I've heard it's okay. Fuck, dude. Those
• 16:03
Speaker 1: movies are... Talk about bad movies.
• 16:06
Speaker 2: The first two are good. I like the second one.
• 16:09
Speaker 1: I like the third one.
• 16:11
Speaker 2: I haven't watched the third one in a long time.
• 16:13
Speaker 2: It's so dumb. It's where they.
• 16:15
Speaker 1: Start becoming dumb. And then the fourth one is like,
• 16:17
Speaker 1: it's in space now. And it's like, okay, whatever.
• 16:19
Speaker 2: Well, it's the fourth one. They had to go to space.
• 16:21
Speaker 1: I mean, Leprechaun 4 went to space.
• 16:23
Speaker 2: They all did. That's the thing.
• 16:24
  Speaker 1: Yeah, fuck it.
• 16:26
  Speaker 2: I mean, that's the thing.
• 16:26
Speaker 1: Jason X for me is one of my favorites because
• 16:28
Speaker 1: it's just completely insane. Yeah, it's like it has the
• 16:32
Speaker 1: frozen face kill. It has the like Jason.
• 16:35
Speaker 2: The sleeping bag kill.
• 16:36
Speaker 1: Yeah, it has the sleeping bag kill. It has the
• 16:38
Speaker 1: Jason like, you know, nanobot version where he looks proper
• 16:42
Speaker 1: fucking horrifying like a goddamn monster. Like, you know, and
• 16:46
Speaker 1: that's the thing. I also and this is genuinely the
• 16:50
Speaker 1: most I ever really see Jason. and again, it'll probably
• 16:53
Speaker 1: make some people who listen to this a little irked,
• 16:56
Speaker 1: but stay with me here, folks, I promise. Freddy vs.
• 16:59
  Speaker 2: Jason.
• 17:01
Speaker 1: Everyone's favorite movie. Yeah, I mean, it's not bad by
• 17:05
Speaker 1: any stretch of the imagination.
• 17:06
Speaker 2: That's the one, actually, that's the one I missed out
• 17:08
Speaker 2: on for years. And just in the last few years,
• 17:11
  Speaker 2: I kept going, wait, I didn't see that, did I?
• 17:13
Speaker 2: It's not bad. I finally went back and watched it.
• 17:16
Speaker 2: It's fine. Again, it's not a great one for either
• 17:19
Speaker 2: of them. So it's just sort of like, eh. Yeah,
• 17:22
Speaker 2: they're both here. Like, it's a cool concept.
• 17:24
Speaker 1: It's exactly what it needs to be. It's like Alien vs. Predator,
• 17:27
Speaker 1: you know? I feel like if Freddy vs. Jason or
• 17:29
Speaker 1: Alien vs. Predator was done now, I genuinely feel like
• 17:34
Speaker 1: people would... Do it differently. I feel like 10, 15
• 17:40
Speaker 1: years ago, it was just, you have these dipshits smashing
• 17:44
Speaker 1: action figures together really hard and saying like, what are
• 17:49
Speaker 1: we doing here? And it's like, now I think there's
• 17:52
Speaker 1: some nuance to what people are doing. Which leads me
• 17:55
Speaker 1: to Crystal Lake. You and I were joking about this
• 17:59
Speaker 1: couple of things. We're going to talk spoilers. I hope
• 18:02
Speaker 1: you don't listen to this thinking we're not like, who
• 18:04
Speaker 1: are you? If you listen to this and you're like,
• 18:06
Speaker 1: I'm not going to spoil the show for me. If
• 18:08
Speaker 1: you are on the fence about this show and you
• 18:11
Speaker 1: are a fan of things such as Hannibal, such as Dexter,
• 18:15
Speaker 1: such as you can fucking see where I'm going here
• 18:17
Speaker 1: with this. Like it, it, the, the, it, are you
• 18:20
Speaker 1: talking about it? The movie?
• 18:22
Speaker 2: Well, I mean that if you like it, the movie,
• 18:25
Speaker 2: I don't think this would be king, but this is
• 18:28
Speaker 2: also the show runner is the guy who did welcome
• 18:30
  Speaker 2: to dairy.
• 18:31
  Speaker 1: So yeah. Okay.
• 18:33
Speaker 2: That's his other most recent thing. So I'm like, if
• 18:36
Speaker 2: you liked that, which I heard good things, I just
• 18:38
Speaker 2: hadn't gotten to it yet, but like one of the
• 18:41
Speaker 2: other people on my show really liked it. So I've,
• 18:44
Speaker 2: I've heard decent things.
• 18:45
Speaker 1: It's much better than, and guess what I rewatched recently?
• 18:48
Speaker 1: I rewatched those fucking Pennywise movies recently. And man, that
• 18:52
Speaker 1: second movie is three hours long. That's what I.
• 18:55
Speaker 2: Was going to say. I really liked the first movie.
• 18:57
Speaker 2: And then I saw the second one and went, oh, whoa,
• 19:00
Speaker 2: what have you guys done? How can you take the
• 19:02
Speaker 2: same basic idea but mess it up so bad? It's
• 19:06
  Speaker 2: so not.
• 19:07
Speaker 1: Entertaining like insanely masturbatory like it is and you know
• 19:11
Speaker 1: what the sad thing is like there's a fun bill
• 19:13
Speaker 1: hater performance in there and a james ransom performance rest
• 19:16
Speaker 1: in peace performances but it just doesn't save the movie
• 19:20
Speaker 1: like jessica chastain and and james mcavoy doing hard r
• 19:24
Speaker 1: city everybody because i'm from the uk like I watched
• 19:31
Speaker 1: a couple episodes of Welcome to Derry. It's interesting. But
• 19:36
Speaker 1: I think for me, I just kind of don't give
• 19:39
Speaker 1: a shit about Pennywise and the Pennywise universe. It's just
• 19:43
Speaker 1: not for me something that resonates with me. I am
• 19:46
Speaker 1: much more interested in what's going on with Crystal Lake,
• 19:50
Speaker 1: primarily because A, it is a complete 180 from what
• 19:55
Speaker 1: I would have expected this thing is going to be
• 19:57
Speaker 1: in terms of a TV show. And B, because at
• 20:01
Speaker 1: the end of the day, like you've already said, the
• 20:03
Speaker 1: guy who's doing the show, regardless of my feelings on
• 20:06
Speaker 1: it as a movie or TV show, he clearly understands horror,
• 20:11
Speaker 1: horror movies, horror TV shows, and horror in general. And
• 20:16
Speaker 1: you know what? If you get it and you can
• 20:18
Speaker 1: give it emotional core, which I think the Derry show clearly,
• 20:22
Speaker 1: I think, has in a lot of ways. from what
• 20:24
Speaker 1: I could tell. This show also has that, but it's also,
• 20:28
Speaker 1: and again, of the episodes of the Welcome to Derry
• 20:31
Speaker 1: show that I watched, there was some really fucked up
• 20:32
Speaker 1: shit going on in that show. Like in the first episode,
• 20:35
Speaker 1: the really, yeah, like some real wild shit going on.
• 20:38
Speaker 1: And man, if we don't say it here right at
• 20:41
Speaker 1: the beginning, the first episode of this show opens with
• 20:44
Speaker 1: Linda Cardinelli covered in blood, picking a tooth out of
• 20:46
  Speaker 1: her hand.
• 20:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, we've all had those weekends. It's Sunday morning,
• 20:51
Speaker 2: you wake up like that. I mean, it's like things
• 20:54
Speaker 2: get out of control. And you've got a tooth in
• 20:55
Speaker 2: your fucking hand. Sometimes.
• 20:58
Speaker 1: Depends on the weekend. Right. Have you seen Hannibal, the
• 21:03
  Speaker 1: TV show? No.
• 21:07
  Speaker 2: I've seen... I might've missed that last movie too. I've
• 21:11
Speaker 2: seen the old school movies and then, uh, I liked
• 21:15
Speaker 2: the idea of Hannibal, but again, I think it just
• 21:17
Speaker 2: got away from me when it was first on. And
• 21:19
Speaker 2: then there was, it kept going. I was like, well
• 21:22
Speaker 2: now I'm so far behind. And then I just haven't
• 21:24
Speaker 2: gotten into it. So I've heard nothing but good things
• 21:27
  Speaker 2: about Hannibal.
• 21:29
Speaker 1: It is so similar to this show in a lot,
• 21:31
Speaker 1: like the tone and the expectation and the way they're
• 21:34
Speaker 1: doing things and the the, the storytelling mechanics of like, Oh,
• 21:39
Speaker 1: we're going to, you know, nine weeks ago or whatever.
• 21:42
Speaker 1: And it's like, I was hooked from the moment the
• 21:46
Speaker 1: show opened. Yeah. It's a really good show. I think
• 21:51
Speaker 1: you would agree, right? Like I think this is, this
• 21:53
Speaker 1: I think does for Friday the 13th, what I think
• 21:57
Speaker 1: a lot of horror franchises do. want which is being
• 22:02
Speaker 1: taken seriously but not so seriously that we lose sight
• 22:06
Speaker 1: of how goofy and fucking weird friday the 13th.
• 22:10
Speaker 2: Is see that's what i was surprised by is like
• 22:13
Speaker 2: it it started out and it seemed like what i
• 22:15
Speaker 2: kind of assumed most streaming shows that are kind of
• 22:18
Speaker 2: digging into a property over several episodes would do and
• 22:22
Speaker 2: they're telling the story and then we got to that
• 22:25
Speaker 2: aside from her being covered in blood but then we
• 22:27
Speaker 2: got to that first like gore scene and i was
• 22:30
Speaker 2: like oh oh no they're not messing around it's.
• 22:33
Speaker 1: Like they're really not messing around and.
• 22:36
Speaker 2: Once we once we got into the next couple of
• 22:39
Speaker 2: episodes that i was like okay no this is this
• 22:42
Speaker 2: is made for horror fans and like it's not like
• 22:45
Speaker 2: the show itself is something that just anybody could pick
• 22:48
Speaker 2: up streaming oh this looks interesting But when you get
• 22:51
Speaker 2: to those kills, it's like, no, this is for horror fans.
• 22:54
Speaker 2: If you're not a horror fan, you are not going
• 22:56
Speaker 2: to be OK with the way some of these people
• 22:58
Speaker 2: are being taken out because it is full on slasher movie,
• 23:02
Speaker 2: crazy scenarios and over the top gore. Every time somebody
• 23:07
Speaker 2: even gets injured in these, it's just like, oh, that's
• 23:10
Speaker 2: not a normal injury. That is a horrible horror movie injury.
• 23:15
Speaker 2: So that's the part I was happy to see.
• 23:17
Speaker 1: Well, and like you said, I mean, there is literally
• 23:19
Speaker 1: from the jump of this first episode, like we see
• 23:24
Speaker 1: her covered in blood. And then by the end of it,
• 23:27
Speaker 1: we understand where the blood came from. And it is
• 23:29
Speaker 1: like proper gross. Like, yeah, I mean, not like I
• 23:32
Speaker 1: wasn't like grossed out or anything, obviously. I mean, again,
• 23:34
Speaker 1: like having seen enough of these things at this point,
• 23:36
Speaker 1: like it takes a lot. But it is gnarly when
• 23:41
  Speaker 1: she's slashing at a guy's face with a machete or
• 23:44
Speaker 1: stabbing a guy in the throat. There is a lot
• 23:47
Speaker 1: of kind of elevated violence. I'm not saying elevated horror,
• 23:51
Speaker 1: but there's a lot of really stylistic violence. And they
• 23:57
Speaker 1: lean into the core.
• 23:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, it should just be a basic little like, oh,
• 24:01
Speaker 2: you got a machete to the head and then that's it.
• 24:04
Speaker 2: But no, it's like she will like, hit them and
• 24:08
Speaker 2: shave off part of their face as these things happen
• 24:11
Speaker 2: half the time, which has happened like a couple of
• 24:14
  Speaker 2: times now of like, Oh no, that's, that's, that's a
• 24:18
Speaker 2: really gory injury now. And a normal show wouldn't do that.
• 24:22
Speaker 2: This is specifically made for horror people. And like that,
• 24:26
Speaker 2: they're not messing around. Like they went straight for the
• 24:28
Speaker 2: gore because this is Friday the 13th. Why would you
• 24:31
  Speaker 2: not like.
• 24:32
Speaker 1: Well, and you know, when I think of Friday the 13th,
• 24:35
Speaker 1: the original movie, It's not the goriest thing I've ever seen.
• 24:39
  Speaker 2: Definitely not.
• 24:40
Speaker 1: No, I mean, fucking Nightmare on Elm Street, the first one,
• 24:43
Speaker 1: is much gorier in a lot of ways.
• 24:44
  Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
• 24:45
Speaker 1: It's funny because I think this TV show acknowledges that
• 24:50
Speaker 1: people getting killed with machetes is pretty gnarly. And taking
• 24:55
Speaker 1: a machete to someone's face or head or body is...
• 25:00
Speaker 1: it's a giant knife fucking sword. And getting to see
• 25:05
Speaker 1: that guy get his face slashed in that first episode
• 25:09
  Speaker 1: is it's, it's crazy to me. Like I, again, like I'm, I'm,
• 25:12
Speaker 1: I'm really glad that the show, like you said, it
• 25:14
Speaker 1: acknowledges the level of violence that is needed to make
• 25:18
Speaker 1: this show work. Because I feel like if it hadn't
• 25:21
Speaker 1: really said, you know, like, fuck it, we're going to
• 25:23
Speaker 1: do violence. We're actually going to do it. Like the dairy,
• 25:25
Speaker 1: the welcome to dairy TV show, the like first three
• 25:27
Speaker 1: episodes that I watched, there are some pretty like gross stuff,
• 25:31
Speaker 1: like gory, gross stuff going on to the level of
• 25:33
Speaker 1: those movies. You know, for as much as I don't
• 25:35
Speaker 1: maybe like that second movie, they're at least still kind
• 25:37
Speaker 1: of gory. You know, I mean, they do have a
• 25:39
Speaker 1: level of kind of like gore to them. That's not,
• 25:43
Speaker 1: it may be the spectacle at that point. It's maybe
• 25:47
Speaker 1: not stylistically the thing that I'm super in love with,
• 25:49
Speaker 1: but they're not sanitized by any stretch of the imagination.
• 25:53
Speaker 1: And yeah, this show does not hold back, which I appreciate.
• 26:00
Speaker 1: Like it, it may be, you know, and like, obviously
• 26:03
Speaker 1: with it being a TV show, it is kind of,
• 26:06
Speaker 1: you know, the, the thing that we kind of have
• 26:08
Speaker 1: to talk about immediately is like the pacing of things. Right.
• 26:12
Speaker 1: I think it's paced rather well by me having watched
• 26:15
Speaker 1: the first four episodes of the show. Maybe it falls
• 26:18
Speaker 1: apart in the last four episodes. And I, you know,
• 26:20
Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it does, you know,
• 26:23
Speaker 1: a lot of TV shows, uh, cannot sustain an entire
• 26:26
Speaker 1: eight hour run. And that's a lot of time. I mean,
• 26:29
Speaker 1: you know, it's most of the Friday the 13th movies
• 26:32
Speaker 1: are an hour and a half. You know, they're not,
• 26:34
Speaker 1: they're not clocking in at two and a half hours.
• 26:36
Speaker 1: They're not, you know, they're not really like their character
• 26:39
Speaker 1: dramas when, you know, they're driven by the plot. Like
• 26:42
Speaker 1: now they're fucking not like the first couple are not really,
• 26:45
Speaker 1: you know, they're not the most like in depth films.
• 26:48
Speaker 1: They're really not. And the thing that this is trying
• 26:51
Speaker 1: to do is trying to flesh out and give the
• 26:55
Speaker 1: some understanding to why is Pamela Voorhees like this? Why
• 26:59
Speaker 1: is Ralph the town weirdo like this? Like what, what
• 27:03
Speaker 1: is Crystal Lake the lake mean? How is, you know,
• 27:06
Speaker 1: what they're clearly wanting to answer is how the fuck
• 27:10
Speaker 1: can Jason come back?
• 27:12
Speaker 2: And I don't really know that they're going to. Except
• 27:16
Speaker 2: that there's also, and that's what I was saying.
• 27:18
Speaker 1: They're going to answer something, Brian. It's clear that they're
• 27:21
Speaker 1: going to answer something. Whether or not it's what the
• 27:24
Speaker 1: lake is, is beyond me at this point.
• 27:27
Speaker 2: In that first promo that I saw that made me go, no,
• 27:30
Speaker 2: I think not only do, am I going to watch this,
• 27:32
Speaker 2: but we need to talk about it because they did the,
• 27:35
Speaker 2: they did that line of like, if they knew what
• 27:38
Speaker 2: you two really are kind of a thing. I was like, Oh, okay.
• 27:42
Speaker 2: This seems like there's a way bigger thing that.
• 27:45
Speaker 1: Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do fucking stranger thing.
• 27:49
Speaker 2: Yeah. It's like, it's going to be thrown into the,
• 27:51
Speaker 2: the lore of it all now that it's going to
• 27:53
Speaker 2: change all of that and, And that's the part I'm like,
• 27:57
Speaker 2: I don't know if that's going to be good or bad.
• 27:59
Speaker 2: I was like, but it's going to be something. So
• 28:01
Speaker 2: I kind of want to be there for that run.
• 28:04
Speaker 2: But yeah, whether or not it really answers the because
• 28:08
Speaker 2: that's I mean, there is no real answer for it
• 28:12
Speaker 2: in any of the other stuff. And he just comes
• 28:15
Speaker 2: back to life. Well, and they don't even address that.
• 28:18
Speaker 2: Like he is just sort of the. the scary story
• 28:22
Speaker 2: in the woods of it all in the beginning there.
• 28:25
Speaker 2: And like they, they just keep telling those stories. He's
• 28:28
  Speaker 2: the woods boogeyman.
• 28:29
  Speaker 1: Essentially.
• 28:30
Speaker 2: He's the camp boogeyman versus the city boogeyman that Michael Myers.
• 28:35
Speaker 2: So it's like, But basically it never answers because then
• 28:39
Speaker 2: it's like, well, in the first movie, it's like he's dead,
• 28:42
  Speaker 2: but he's back.
• 28:43
  Speaker 1: Why?
• 28:43
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 28:44
  Speaker 1: Who cares?
• 28:44
Speaker 2: Come back for the next movie. And then by the
• 28:47
Speaker 2: time you get to two and three, it's like now
• 28:50
Speaker 2: he just wanders around and kills people.
• 28:51
  Speaker 1: Why?
• 28:52
Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah. And by the time you get
• 28:54
Speaker 2: to by like six when he's full on zombie, which
• 28:59
Speaker 2: basically we've just he's dead and we've used Frankenstein technology
• 29:04
Speaker 2: to make him rise from the dead. And now he
• 29:06
Speaker 2: just shuffles around like a zombie. And I'm like, well. okay,
• 29:10
Speaker 2: is that what he is? They never really just give
• 29:14
Speaker 2: you an answer the way that you want, but also
• 29:17
Speaker 2: horror fans aren't that worried about it, and they're just
• 29:20
Speaker 2: there for him to hack people up. So you just
• 29:22
Speaker 2: kind of shrug and be like, yeah, well, that was
• 29:24
Speaker 2: pretty cool, so I'll be back for the next one.
• 29:26
Speaker 2: What do people really want is the question, right? Machetes
• 29:29
Speaker 2: to the head. That's what people want.
• 29:31
Speaker 1: Well, and that's the thing. Like, I think that's what
• 29:33
Speaker 1: people wanted in the eighties. I think now what people want,
• 29:37
Speaker 1: I think is, is more complex than that. I think
• 29:40
Speaker 1: people that are watching this at this point, like you
• 29:42
Speaker 1: can't just at this juncture in time with Friday, the 13th,
• 29:47
Speaker 1: you cannot just give me a guy hacking people up.
• 29:50
Speaker 1: Because I've seen it before. Even if you want to say, well,
• 29:53
Speaker 1: it's not the best practical effects. Fuck you, Tom Savini.
• 29:57
Speaker 1: I think the practical effects in the original films are fine.
• 30:01
Speaker 1: That's not the issue with the original films. The issue
• 30:03
Speaker 1: with the original films is the stories are completely nonsensical
• 30:06
Speaker 1: and make no sense.
• 30:07
Speaker 2: Well, they're minimal at best. Those first several, it's just,
• 30:10
Speaker 2: you're out in the woods, people are getting killed. The end.
• 30:13
Speaker 2: That's all you need.
• 30:14
Speaker 1: Why don't we give... this character a proper story. And
• 30:19
Speaker 1: I have no problem with that. In a lot of ways,
• 30:21
Speaker 1: there's not a literary equivalent to Jason Voorhees. If you
• 30:26
Speaker 1: want to say, well, with Hannibal, you just go read
• 30:28
Speaker 1: the book. Yes, but the Hannibal TV show has given
• 30:31
Speaker 1: you so much more time with the character than the
• 30:33
Speaker 1: book ever could have. And that's the thing. This show
• 30:36
Speaker 1: gives you eight hours of Pamela Voorhees there's like an
• 30:40
Speaker 1: hour and a half in the movie, you know?
• 30:42
Speaker 2: And there's a lot more than you expect. Well, and
• 30:47
Speaker 2: she's not even the main focus of most of that
• 30:50
Speaker 2: first movie because we're busy watching kids do dumb kid
• 30:53
Speaker 2: things and hook up and get killed. And like, so
• 30:56
Speaker 2: it's only that last finale of like, Hey, it's all
• 30:59
Speaker 2: about me. Like then we get a little bit of backstory,
• 31:03
Speaker 2: but it's still a fraction of the running time is
• 31:06
Speaker 2: spent on Pamela in that first movie. So yeah, this
• 31:09
Speaker 2: did at least have so much open space to just
• 31:13
Speaker 2: kind of fill in whatever, like all you have to
• 31:15
Speaker 2: do is hit these handful of things along the way.
• 31:18
Speaker 2: And by the time in the first like 15 minutes,
• 31:21
Speaker 2: she's wearing the sweater. I'm like, all right, we're there.
• 31:23
Speaker 2: That's all you had to do. Like you just put
• 31:25
Speaker 2: her in the sweater and we're, we're 90% of the
• 31:27
Speaker 2: way there. Just have her machete somebody and we're done. Like,
• 31:31
Speaker 2: so I feel like it, it does that stuff well.
• 31:34
Speaker 2: That it needs to do, but it also gives you
• 31:37
Speaker 2: a lot more like generalized story that I feel like
• 31:40
Speaker 2: would be in a lot of other streaming shows at
• 31:43
Speaker 2: this point. It also is kind of hitting that this
• 31:46
Speaker 2: is what a streaming show is kind of a mood
• 31:49
Speaker 2: that I feel like. With the exception of the over-the-top gore,
• 31:54
Speaker 2: regular people that could care less about Friday the 13th
• 31:57
Speaker 2: might be on board with this as an interesting, it's
• 32:01
Speaker 2: a streaming show about a small town kind of a thing.
• 32:03
Speaker 2: And oh, there was this tragedy. And if it wasn't
• 32:06
Speaker 2: so damn gory, I feel like your regular mom from
• 32:11
Speaker 2: Iowa would sit down and watch this and be fine
• 32:13
Speaker 2: with it as an interesting story.
• 32:16
Speaker 1: Is it really that much gorier than the last two
• 32:19
Speaker 1: seasons of fucking Stranger Things? It's pretty gory. I know,
• 32:24
Speaker 1: but so is like Stranger Things. There's characters getting like
• 32:27
Speaker 1: tentacles to the chest. And in the last season, there's
• 32:29
Speaker 1: dudes getting like fucking tentacle hands through the backs of
• 32:33
Speaker 1: their heads. Like, I don't know.
• 32:35
Speaker 2: Like, you know what?
• 32:36
Speaker 1: When shows started existing outside of what I would consider
• 32:40
Speaker 1: to be the network system and you could just watch
• 32:43
Speaker 1: things on your TV or on your streaming platform or
• 32:46
Speaker 1: on your smart TV or on your phone. I don't
• 32:49
Speaker 1: know how you judge any of this shit anymore. Like
• 32:52
Speaker 1: the rating systems and everything else are completely fucking arbitrary.
• 32:56
Speaker 1: They always have been, but now they're even more arbitrary
• 32:59
Speaker 1: because you could just watch whatever the fuck, wherever the fuck.
• 33:01
Speaker 1: And the only way to stop anyone from watching it
• 33:03
Speaker 1: is by safeguards on your own end.
• 33:06
  Speaker 2: Hmm.
• 33:07
Speaker 1: Kind of like that should have been the fucking thing
• 33:08
Speaker 1: the whole goddamn time.
• 33:10
Speaker 2: Which nobody does, which once again is back to me
• 33:13
Speaker 2: watching stuff I did not need to be watching.
• 33:14
  Speaker 1: On cable when I was a kid. I go, you're
• 33:33
Speaker 1: learning then, you know, I feel like John Cusack in
• 33:37
Speaker 1: high fidelity where it's like, what came first, the music
• 33:39
Speaker 1: or the misery? Like there's way more depressing music than
• 33:41
Speaker 1: any movie I've ever seen. Like I cried listening to
• 33:43
Speaker 1: music more than I have ever cried watching a movie.
• 33:47
Speaker 1: And that's the same thing here. Like with, with TV now, like,
• 33:50
Speaker 1: I don't know if this is a gory TV show
• 33:52
Speaker 1: or not. I think, I think everything is fair game
• 33:55
Speaker 1: at this point. Genuinely. Like, I think the only thing
• 33:57
Speaker 1: you can compare this to are other TV shows that
• 34:00
Speaker 1: you could watch. and spend eight hours with where it's
• 34:02
Speaker 1: kind of Stranger Things, it. fucking Stephen King. Like this
• 34:09
Speaker 1: is not Friday the 13th. This is so like, that's
• 34:13
Speaker 1: the thing I appreciate about this show, but I also
• 34:15
Speaker 1: feel like some people will be turned off by is like,
• 34:16
Speaker 1: this is not Friday the 13th at all because it's,
• 34:20
Speaker 1: it's so trying to do something else, which I'm here for.
• 34:25
Speaker 1: But you and I both know if you are coming
• 34:27
Speaker 1: to this, expecting what you would be getting from a
• 34:30
Speaker 1: Friday the 13th movie, you are going to be sorely disappointed.
• 34:33
Speaker 2: Because, So I feel like especially in the first episode,
• 34:37
Speaker 2: because we're kind of exposed to it and maybe the most,
• 34:40
Speaker 2: although we're already getting other snippets of it as we
• 34:42
Speaker 2: go along. We also have to address the other big thing,
• 34:47
Speaker 2: which is time spent with old school version of Jason.
• 34:52
Speaker 1: Like child jason child jason.
• 34:55
Speaker 2: So number one and this was my i swear like
• 34:59
Speaker 2: i feel like i said it out loud sitting in
• 35:01
Speaker 2: front of the tv i was like oh so he
• 35:04
Speaker 2: was always like that so i guess i went back
• 35:08
Speaker 2: since then i'm like yeah the little clips you see
• 35:11
Speaker 2: of him like jumping up and down in the water
• 35:13
Speaker 2: about to drown he kind of looked like that too
• 35:15
  Speaker 2: i guess i don't know I really didn't remember.
• 35:17
Speaker 1: It's been, like I said, a long time. Are you
• 35:19
Speaker 1: talking about with the hydrocephalus head?
• 35:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, just the fact that he was a special needs
• 35:24
Speaker 2: kind of a kid, where I was like, I think
• 35:26
Speaker 2: in my head, I was just like, I don't know,
• 35:27
Speaker 2: he was a kid, and then he died.
• 35:28
  Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, no.
• 35:30
Speaker 2: By the time he comes back, he looks like this,
• 35:33
Speaker 2: and that's the way we get him from there on.
• 35:34
  Speaker 2: But I don't think I thought about him as a
• 35:37
Speaker 2: regular kid beforehand, one way or the other.
• 35:39
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 35:40
Speaker 2: This is like throwing you in the middle of, oh, no,
• 35:43
Speaker 2: this is this is Jason. And here's what he was like.
• 35:45
Speaker 2: So that's that's a lot to kind of process, really.
• 35:48
Speaker 1: I think what's crazy to me is you have a
• 35:53
Speaker 1: story about a mom taking care of a special needs
• 35:55
Speaker 1: child and she was the killer. And that was the
• 36:00
Speaker 1: problem when it's when it's like, no, like when you
• 36:03
Speaker 1: watch this show, this show is just like, hey, what?
• 36:06
Speaker 1: And here's the thing. Like, again, there's no spoilers here.
• 36:09
Speaker 1: You are assuming taking spoilers into your own hands by
• 36:12
Speaker 1: listening to us talk about this. I love that this
• 36:14
Speaker 1: show has effectively, Linda Cardinelli is just fucking nuts and
• 36:19
Speaker 1: wants to kill people and is killing people. And that's it.
• 36:23
Speaker 1: That's it. Because in these first two episodes, we go from, oh,
• 36:27
Speaker 1: let's feel bad for her to, holy shit, what the
• 36:29
  Speaker 1: fuck is going on? Like she's a complete, she's a
• 36:31
Speaker 1: complete psycho. And you know what?
• 36:32
  Speaker 2: Good.
• 36:33
Speaker 1: Because I did not expect that from this show. I
• 36:36
Speaker 1: didn't know what to expect. I didn't even look into
• 36:38
Speaker 1: the thing that you were talking about. You kept talking
• 36:40
Speaker 1: about like, oh, you know, like there's this, this weird thing.
• 36:43
Speaker 1: And I was like, I don't know what it could be,
• 36:45
Speaker 1: but I had in my mind, it was going to
• 36:47
Speaker 1: be something like what it ended up, what it's ended
• 36:50
  Speaker 1: up being. And I, like I said, I haven't seen
• 36:51
Speaker 1: the back end of the season yet. So maybe they
• 36:53
  Speaker 1: answer it. Maybe they don't, I don't know. But I
• 36:56
Speaker 1: was not, I was not sure what to expect with
• 36:59
Speaker 1: this show at all. All I know is all I
• 37:01
Speaker 1: knew was Linda Cardinelli is in it. And now that
• 37:03
Speaker 1: it's like, oh yeah. So she's, just vindictively killing people
• 37:09
Speaker 1: that are fucking with her and acting like assholes, which
• 37:11
Speaker 1: is fine, which is very Hannibal, which reminds me again,
• 37:14
Speaker 1: like Brian Fuller was originally involved with this. So that
• 37:17
Speaker 1: makes sense. And then you have this kind of like
• 37:19
Speaker 1: weird tone that reminds me of Coen brothers movies reminds
• 37:26
Speaker 1: me of that Fargo TV show reminds me of alien
• 37:29
Speaker 1: earth where it's like, there's like these weird, funny or
• 37:32
Speaker 1: black darkly comedic moments that don't make sense in other
• 37:38
Speaker 1: shows but i get what they're doing here because in
• 37:40
Speaker 1: this it makes sense because of who's creating it and
• 37:43
Speaker 1: what their intention is but man i i really like
• 37:48
Speaker 1: this show but i was not expecting to like it
• 37:51
Speaker 1: this much because i did not know what to expect
• 37:54
Speaker 1: and i love that we live in the age now
• 37:57
Speaker 1: of stuff like this where someone can come into a
• 38:00
Speaker 1: show like this, which is based on something else that
• 38:03
Speaker 1: is so kind of, I would say like formless, but
• 38:07
Speaker 1: I feel like you could do this with Texas Chainsaw
• 38:10
Speaker 1: Massacre too. Like they are so kind of free form
• 38:13
Speaker 1: in a way, like the story was not really the
• 38:15
Speaker 1: important part. Of this or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. You weren't
• 38:20
Speaker 1: here for the story. You were here for something else.
• 38:22
Speaker 1: And because that was never the case, now they're, like
• 38:24
Speaker 1: you said, given so much runway that this is just
• 38:27
Speaker 1: kind of going to be hopefully its own thing for
• 38:30
Speaker 1: a while. And I'm okay with that. Because if you
• 38:32
Speaker 1: want to do this without Jason, it's essentially Hannibal. Because
• 38:39
Speaker 1: Hannibal's like, well, we have a Clarice character in there,
• 38:43
Speaker 1: sort of. But because we can't use the Clarice character,
• 38:46
Speaker 1: we can never do Silence of the Lambs. Which is weird, right?
• 38:50
Speaker 1: Because when people think of Hannibal, it's like part and
• 38:52
Speaker 1: parcel of Silence of the Lambs. But the thing that's interesting,
• 38:55
Speaker 1: and I think this show might be doing it as well,
• 38:57
Speaker 1: it's kind of peeling those things apart, but also seemingly
• 39:02
Speaker 1: saying like, well, we can do Jason as the killer
• 39:05
Speaker 1: as well, which is akin to those other movies we'll
• 39:10
Speaker 1: do it our own way because we can do it
• 39:12
Speaker 1: without the hockey mask.
• 39:15
Speaker 2: Well what what seemed dangerous as soon as i saw
• 39:21
Speaker 2: the fact that we were getting jason and we were
• 39:23
Speaker 2: getting this version of jason first i was just like
• 39:28
Speaker 2: oh this could be entry entering into an area that
• 39:33
Speaker 2: we've previously discussed The are we getting young Anakin Skywalker here?
• 39:38
Speaker 2: Are we getting the villain where he's like, yippee? And like,
• 39:42
Speaker 2: he's just super cute and all shucks and everybody's supposed
• 39:45
Speaker 2: to like him. But you're like, how the hell are
• 39:47
Speaker 2: we supposed to like him? Because he grows up and
• 39:49
Speaker 2: murders people. So we kind of had that in the
• 39:52
Speaker 2: very specifically this first episode, like that's that's where I
• 39:55
Speaker 2: was like, oh, OK, is this going to be a problem?
• 39:59
Speaker 2: And then like by the time, like almost immediately he
• 40:02
Speaker 2: gets killed and most of the time we're seeing him
• 40:04
Speaker 2: in flashbacks. So it's like. Not really, because I think
• 40:10
Speaker 2: there wasn't any of that to the mythology of Jason.
• 40:14
Speaker 2: I feel like Jason was just Jason. He's this wordless
• 40:17
Speaker 2: dude that just murders people. And again, he's almost supernatural
• 40:20
Speaker 2: in his own weird way. So you didn't have any
• 40:23
Speaker 2: personality to him. But by giving him so much personality
• 40:28
Speaker 2: and making him likable in the beginning... it almost gives
• 40:32
Speaker 2: you reason to be on Pamela's side. Like when she
• 40:37
Speaker 2: starts to lose it and like be pissed at everybody
• 40:40
Speaker 2: for not caring about the fact that this kid's gone,
• 40:43
Speaker 2: like you totally are like, well, yeah, I mean, I'd
• 40:46
Speaker 2: feel the same way. Like, you know, people weren't taking
• 40:49
Speaker 2: care of her kid. And even after he died, nobody
• 40:52
Speaker 2: seems to care. Nobody cares that the body never showed up. Nobody's,
• 40:56
Speaker 2: you know, taking into account her feelings. She's just she's
• 41:00
Speaker 2: dealing with so much grief at this point that when
• 41:02
Speaker 2: you see it sort of manifest in this anger like
• 41:05
Speaker 2: it does you're like yeah i get it like so
• 41:08
Speaker 2: i think it actually like makes it seem more balanced
• 41:13
Speaker 2: like if he was just like a horrible little brat
• 41:15
Speaker 2: like he'd be like what is she so pissed about
• 41:17
Speaker 2: but because they made him like a real person and
• 41:20
Speaker 2: like he actually is a good kid that like you
• 41:23
Speaker 2: would otherwise totally be on his side. But now that
• 41:26
Speaker 2: we're seeing all of his existence, like through flashbacks and
• 41:31
Speaker 2: filtered through her processing, all of the things that have
• 41:35
Speaker 2: gone wrong since he's died, that like you're, you're getting
• 41:39
Speaker 2: this window into why she's like this. And yes, it
• 41:42
Speaker 2: goes off the rails pretty quick where she's just like,
• 41:45
Speaker 2: or I'll just start killing people now. But I do
• 41:48
Speaker 2: think it's all based in that it's all, coming from
• 41:53
Speaker 2: just dealing with the grief of losing this kid and
• 41:56
Speaker 2: the kid that was her whole life. And now that
• 41:59
Speaker 2: she doesn't have that, she's also kind of like, well,
• 42:02
  Speaker 2: I don't have anything to worry about. Like I don't
• 42:03
Speaker 2: have anything to lose. I'm a lunch lady for God's sakes.
• 42:06
Speaker 2: Like the only thing I had was my kid that's gone.
• 42:10
Speaker 2: So I kind of have freedom to do whatever I
• 42:12
Speaker 2: want with my life. And I've decided what I want
• 42:15
Speaker 2: to do is kill people that are pissing me off
• 42:18
Speaker 2: so when it takes that road i'm like yeah all
• 42:22
Speaker 2: right i get that i feel like we're all kind
• 42:23
Speaker 2: of one step away from that at this point anyway.
• 42:26
Speaker 1: Which is so again like it's so interesting to me
• 42:29
Speaker 1: that that is the road they're going with because again
• 42:31
Speaker 1: like you've said there is no real direction here inherently
• 42:34
Speaker 1: like there's not an inherent direction with friday the 13th
• 42:38
Speaker 1: because again most people don't even remember that she was
• 42:41
Speaker 1: the killer I mean, again, yeah. Horror fan.
• 42:44
Speaker 2: Drew Barrymore, we're talking to you. Yeah, exactly.
• 42:47
Speaker 1: I mean, like, I'm not saying like real horror fans,
• 42:49
Speaker 1: but like the lay person when they think of Friday
• 42:51
  Speaker 1: the 13th.
• 42:52
  Speaker 2: It's Jason. It's always Jason.
• 42:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And I think what's so interesting about this
• 42:58
Speaker 1: show is, like you said, it's like, okay, so I
• 43:01
Speaker 1: have no love for Friday the 13th as a franchise.
• 43:05
Speaker 1: So going into this, I don't care if they do
• 43:07
Speaker 1: anything with the characters that is not sacrosanct or sacrily
• 43:11
Speaker 1: oh my god there's a backstory now like whatever like
• 43:14
Speaker 1: cool you want to explain why jason can come back
• 43:16
Speaker 1: to life or he has some magical powers or he
• 43:20
  Speaker 1: you know he's like i don't feel any pain it's
• 43:22
Speaker 1: like what the fuck are we doing here show like
• 43:25
Speaker 1: what is this again like i don't know what they're
• 43:27
Speaker 1: doing and they're kind of just like not playing their
• 43:31
Speaker 1: hand in these, in these first two episodes. But what's
• 43:34
Speaker 1: interesting is what we do get in these first two
• 43:36
Speaker 1: episodes is like you said, a reason as to why
• 43:40
Speaker 1: Pamela Voorhees is killing people. At least this version of
• 43:45
Speaker 1: her is, which again, if you want to look at
• 43:47
Speaker 1: it as, Oh, this is a prequel to the movies. Cool.
• 43:50
Speaker 1: But it's, it's more about what is the story they're
• 43:55
Speaker 1: telling here? Like this story, Because again, the story of
• 43:59
Speaker 1: Friday the 13th, there isn't really much. So this is
• 44:02
Speaker 1: just like, we're going to riff on the notes of
• 44:05
Speaker 1: Pamela Voorhees. But what it is, is kind of up
• 44:09
Speaker 1: to us to determine. Us, the creators of the show.
• 44:13
Speaker 1: And like you said, when it was clear to me
• 44:14
Speaker 1: the direction that they're kind of taking this, I'm on
• 44:17
Speaker 1: board with it. Do whatever. Go to a self-help convention place.
• 44:23
Speaker 1: thing and and interact with that person like you i
• 44:26
Speaker 1: would love to see what a psycho sociopathic killer would
• 44:31
Speaker 1: do to a person like that who she's like you
• 44:33
Speaker 1: know don't fuck around in our heads like you don't
• 44:36
Speaker 1: know what you're messing with right like i want you
• 44:38
Speaker 1: know what like i vibe with that like that's great
• 44:40
Speaker 1: or like you know the scene at the beginning or
• 44:42
Speaker 1: at the end of the first episode where she's trying
• 44:43
Speaker 1: to figure out how to like tape a dead body's
• 44:47
Speaker 1: head closed, and then she wraps it in a plastic bag,
• 44:51
Speaker 1: and then she tapes it, like, I'm here for this insanity.
• 44:55
Speaker 1: Because I, like, again, like, what I have expectation-wise for
• 44:59
Speaker 1: Friday the 13th is nothing. So all this is is just, like,
• 45:02
Speaker 1: gravy to me, you know what I mean? Like, I'm
• 45:05
Speaker 1: just enjoying this show for this weird serial killer getting
• 45:10
Speaker 1: her revenge on the people who wronged her while trying
• 45:13
Speaker 1: to hide in broad daylight. and maybe, you know, like
• 45:18
Speaker 1: continue to do what she's doing with impunity. Like I'm
• 45:20
Speaker 1: here for it. Like, cause again, I had no expectations
• 45:23
Speaker 1: going into this. I am the best and worst person
• 45:26
Speaker 1: because again, like I said, best because I have no expectation,
• 45:29
Speaker 1: but worst because I don't really, so many people are like,
• 45:32
Speaker 1: Oh man, you know, like this is, you know, the
• 45:33
Speaker 1: Holy Bible. And it's like, not really, you know, it's
• 45:36
Speaker 1: like Lord of the, like maybe Lord of the Rings
• 45:38
Speaker 1: or something like that, where we have, so much like,
• 45:42
Speaker 1: why are you doing your own thing when there's so
• 45:45
Speaker 1: much that's already there?
• 45:46
Speaker 2: There's a lot of texts there.
• 45:47
Speaker 1: Right. Friday the 13th doesn't have that. So it's like,
• 45:50
Speaker 1: there's not like a million bajillion things to run from.
• 45:53
Speaker 1: Like you can reference things, but even your references don't
• 45:57
Speaker 1: have to like be one for one, you know, if
• 46:00
Speaker 1: they want to do some sort of like sleeping bag
• 46:02
Speaker 1: adjacent thing, or if they do some sleeping bag adjacent
• 46:05
Speaker 1: thing in this and be like, Oh, that's funny. That's
• 46:07
Speaker 1: clever that you're referencing it, but like, it doesn't have
• 46:09
Speaker 1: to be like the exact same setup. Hasta la vista, baby. Like, okay,
• 46:13
Speaker 1: we get it. Like you said it in Terminator Schwarzenegger.
• 46:16
Speaker 1: Like you say it in everything now. It's that it's like,
• 46:19
Speaker 1: you can do that without it being like fucking the one-to-one.
• 46:22
  Speaker 1: I don't know. It's really, it's an interesting way of
• 46:25
Speaker 1: doing this. That is so, you know, to speak to
• 46:27
Speaker 1: the AVP and Freddie versus Jason of it all. Like
• 46:30
Speaker 1: they had to try and explain in those movies how
• 46:32
Speaker 1: the fuck those two characters were getting together. And it's like,
• 46:36
Speaker 1: why does it even matter? Like, Like it's, it's just
• 46:39
Speaker 1: the characters that you want to see together. It's not
• 46:42
Speaker 1: the whole idea of the universes together. Like, I just
• 46:45
Speaker 1: want to see the characters just do that. And this
• 46:48
Speaker 1: is that same thing. Like Pamela Voorhees, larger universe doesn't matter.
• 46:53
Speaker 1: Like there's not this like whole thing we have to
• 46:55
Speaker 1: hue to. It's like, we're going to have her as
• 46:56
Speaker 1: the center point, her and Jason and build everything off
• 47:00
  Speaker 1: from there.
• 47:01
Speaker 2: And you know what?
• 47:01
  Speaker 1: I'm, I'm here for it.
• 47:03
  Speaker 2: Genuinely.
• 47:03
Speaker 1: Like it's a very exciting show. to be able to watch,
• 47:06
Speaker 1: to not have a fucking clue where they're going with
• 47:08
  Speaker 1: any of this.
• 47:10
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing. There's really only just an end
• 47:12
Speaker 2: point for her, I guess.
• 47:15
  Speaker 1: Maybe.
• 47:16
Speaker 2: And even that, they could kind of change the rules.
• 47:18
Speaker 2: That might piss people off a little bit.
• 47:20
Speaker 1: What is the end point of a show that's doing
• 47:22
  Speaker 1: its own thing?
• 47:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, and we've had like a few,
• 47:27
Speaker 2: because of the other things you've mentioned that it's reminding
• 47:30
Speaker 2: me of, one of the ones that it definitely felt
• 47:33
Speaker 2: a lot of the, which again, I didn't get around to,
• 47:36
Speaker 2: but I heard such good things on Bates Motel. And
• 47:39
Speaker 2: that's almost that exact same thing of like, well, here's
• 47:42
Speaker 2: a killer. Their whole identity is that from from the
• 47:46
Speaker 2: pop culture end of it is like, this is what
• 47:48
Speaker 2: this guy does. He just he's a slasher. He's the
• 47:50
Speaker 2: original slasher. But then what was he like when he
• 47:53
Speaker 2: was younger? And what was his mom like? So it depends.
• 47:57
Speaker 2: digs into that a lot but that's also one of
• 48:00
Speaker 2: the few things I heard about Bates Motel they also
• 48:03
Speaker 2: do their own thing so much so that when they
• 48:05
Speaker 2: catch up with the psycho of it all they change
• 48:09
Speaker 2: the game and the main things going on in psycho
• 48:12
Speaker 2: don't happen in the series and they just do their
• 48:15
Speaker 2: own thing and continue the story and and do like
• 48:18
Speaker 2: a new, there's a fork in the road at that point.
• 48:21
Speaker 2: And their story just takes a different road and starts
• 48:23
Speaker 2: doing something entirely different, but still in that same universe,
• 48:27
Speaker 2: still with these same characters, but they just picked a
• 48:30
Speaker 2: different choice. And this character did something different from before.
• 48:33
Speaker 2: And now it's led to a whole new story. So
• 48:35
Speaker 2: I'm like, truthfully, if this gets enough of, you know,
• 48:39
Speaker 2: response that they like it enough, hell, they could do
• 48:41
Speaker 2: that with this. And like, all of a sudden now
• 48:43
Speaker 2: Pamela doesn't die in the first movie that, so they
• 48:46
Speaker 2: could like, do a whole different thing if they want.
• 48:49
Speaker 2: I don't know if that would piss off fans, but
• 48:52
Speaker 2: that's the other thing I was thinking. It's also not
• 48:54
Speaker 2: that beholden to lore the way that some of the
• 48:57
Speaker 2: other franchise stuff is like this one. Again, it was
• 49:02
Speaker 2: all just spooky stories in the woods was the whole
• 49:06
Speaker 2: basis of that idea. And eventually we got to some
• 49:10
Speaker 2: of the specifics of what happens in that first movie.
• 49:12
Speaker 2: But Even the Pamela stuff in the first movie is
• 49:16
Speaker 2: so just sort of there, like I said, in the background.
• 49:20
Speaker 2: So it's not really hardcore retelling of the stuff. It's
• 49:25
Speaker 2: expanding of it all. And again, another thing it reminded
• 49:29
Speaker 2: me of that we haven't mentioned, I got a very
• 49:32
Speaker 2: Dexter vibe because she is so... she's definitely as time
• 49:38
Speaker 2: goes on becoming a serial killer, but also like you,
• 49:42
Speaker 2: you realize what she's doing is wrong, but you're also
• 49:45
Speaker 2: kind of on her side almost the whole time. Like
• 49:48
Speaker 2: even when she starts doing stuff, that's not okay anymore.
• 49:52
Speaker 2: Like at first it's just sort of self-defense, but then
• 49:55
Speaker 2: like later it's like, no, now she's just pissed off.
• 49:57
Speaker 2: So I don't know. I got that vibe where it's like, well,
• 50:02
Speaker 2: as time goes on, Dexter himself becomes the full on villain.
• 50:07
Speaker 2: but like you're still sort of on his side because
• 50:09
Speaker 2: this is his show and you're watching it with him
• 50:11
Speaker 2: and you're invested in his character and you're seeing it
• 50:14
Speaker 2: from his perspective. And even when he's doing things that
• 50:17
Speaker 2: are wrong, you're like, but you make up your excuses.
• 50:20
Speaker 2: I'm already doing that with Pamela. Like I'm already halfway
• 50:23
Speaker 2: in going, well, yeah, this is a little excessive, but
• 50:26
Speaker 2: you know, she had to do this because of this.
• 50:27
Speaker 2: So like you immediately just are on her side. You
• 50:31
Speaker 2: feel bad for her in the scenario she's in and
• 50:33
Speaker 2: you kind of already want the best for her. You know,
• 50:36
Speaker 2: it's like, we haven't even gotten into the, the building.
• 50:40
Speaker 2: Like in this first couple of episodes here, we just
• 50:42
Speaker 2: get the hints of like, I think this sheriff's got
• 50:46
Speaker 2: a thing for her. And then pretty quickly you're like, Oh,
• 50:49
Speaker 2: vice versa as well. So as that starts to develop,
• 50:53
Speaker 2: I'm also like, yeah, I kind of want this for her. Like,
• 50:56
  Speaker 2: I don't, I don't want her to just hack him
• 50:58
Speaker 2: up because she's a crazy person. Like I want her
• 51:01
Speaker 2: to have a functional life and like, it sucks that
• 51:03
Speaker 2: her kid's gone, but like, she doesn't have to throw
• 51:07
Speaker 2: everything away and get herself killed in the process because
• 51:10
Speaker 2: she's grieving so that she could also choose to have
• 51:14
Speaker 2: a functional life again. So it's interesting that they're kind
• 51:17
Speaker 2: of playing with that, especially in these first two episodes
• 51:20
Speaker 2: of like just sort of easing their way into what
• 51:23
Speaker 2: could potentially be a relationship again, which is not what
• 51:27
Speaker 2: I expected either, really.
• 51:29
Speaker 1: Well, and again, I didn't know what to expect, but
• 51:32
Speaker 1: I do now feel like, like you've said, the idea
• 51:37
Speaker 1: of they can kind of do whatever. Yep. And that
• 51:42
Speaker 1: is the most exciting thing here. I think about that
• 51:47
Speaker 1: Exorcist TV show, which I actually really liked. And I
• 51:53
Speaker 1: don't know if you saw it, but the first season
• 51:55
Speaker 1: is like a... A surprise sequel to the first movie.
• 52:00
Speaker 1: You don't realize up until, I want to say maybe
• 52:03
Speaker 1: like halfway through the first season, it's like, oh yeah,
• 52:05
Speaker 1: this is actually like a sequel to the first movie.
• 52:08
Speaker 1: And I'm mentioning it now because it's been so long
• 52:10
Speaker 1: and there's been so many fucking sequels and we've seen
• 52:13
Speaker 1: now a Mike Flanagan trailer for a Mike Flanagan movie
• 52:16
  Speaker 1: that's coming out. It's a sequel to... It is a
• 52:20
Speaker 1: sequel to something. Maybe, I don't know, possibly even exorcist three.
• 52:23
Speaker 2: Um, that's what I've heard. And it sounds, it sounds
• 52:27
Speaker 2: kind of interesting actually. Right?
• 52:28
Speaker 1: Like, okay, cool. Again, like it feels like this where
• 52:31
  Speaker 1: it's like, okay, like I have a, I have a
• 52:34
Speaker 1: starting point that you recognize or some things that you
• 52:37
Speaker 1: are familiar with, but I am not feeling as beholden
• 52:40
Speaker 1: as everybody else's felt before. to the quote, mythology, unquote.
• 52:45
Speaker 1: You know, when Noah Hawley's Alien Earth came out, it
• 52:47
Speaker 1: was like, oh, where is this in the timeline? It's like,
• 52:50
Speaker 1: it's Stone fucking timeline. And you know what? There's something
• 52:56
Speaker 1: so freeing about that because it's like, well, how, how
• 52:59
Speaker 1: does this relate to Ripley? It's like, it doesn't because
• 53:01
Speaker 1: there's no universe where this could have happened and people
• 53:03
Speaker 1: didn't know about the aliens. So it's very clearly its
• 53:07
Speaker 1: own thing, which is good because you know what? Who
• 53:10
Speaker 1: gives a fucking shit anymore about where the timelines are? Like,
• 53:14
Speaker 1: I feel like this show is a tacit rejection of
• 53:18
Speaker 1: so much of what we have seen in the last
• 53:20
Speaker 1: 20 years of, of filmmaking and tv shows where it's
• 53:24
Speaker 1: like we have to do a thing that's tied to
• 53:26
Speaker 1: this thing just like the people expect us to and
• 53:30
Speaker 1: it's like nope and friday the 13th is like the
• 53:32
Speaker 1: most visible of things like i mean like you said
• 53:35
Speaker 1: with psycho or with hannibal like friday the 13th is
• 53:39
Speaker 1: like one of the big ones it is i mean
• 53:41
Speaker 1: like in terms of money making visibility like i don't
• 53:45
Speaker 1: know if there's a bigger franchise you could have done
• 53:47
Speaker 1: for horror other than maybe nightmare on elm street like
• 53:50
Speaker 1: or Scream, but they've already done a Scream TV show.
• 53:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, and Nightmare on Elm Street's so far removed. Again,
• 53:56
Speaker 2: it's been so long even since the attempt at a reboot.
• 54:01
Speaker 2: I don't know that any of the newer generations have
• 54:04
Speaker 2: the reverence for Nightmare on Elm Street that you did
• 54:07
Speaker 2: the first time. I definitely did, but I think about
• 54:11
Speaker 2: several generations of kids since then that at best they
• 54:14
Speaker 2: might have watched them at home. And being like, oh,
• 54:17
Speaker 2: all right, that was fine. So like, I don't think
• 54:19
Speaker 2: Nightmare carries the power unless it's older fans most of
• 54:23
Speaker 2: the time and a handful of like hardcore kids that
• 54:25
Speaker 2: are still hanging out at like horror conventions and stuff.
• 54:28
Speaker 2: But I feel like regular fans and even regular horror
• 54:31
Speaker 2: fans of today probably don't care as much about Freddy
• 54:35
Speaker 2: as the fans used to.
• 54:38
Speaker 1: No, I mean, I think it's Art the Clown and
• 54:41
Speaker 1: Annabelle and all these other things. And, you know, like,
• 54:43
Speaker 1: Art the Clown has mythology, but it's his own mythology.
• 54:46
Speaker 1: It's not beholden to anything. Like, it's inspired by other stuff, sure.
• 54:50
Speaker 1: But it's not beholden to a goddamn thing. I mean,
• 54:53
Speaker 1: what's funny is Friday the 13th is, like, the worst
• 54:58
Speaker 1: best case example of how do we handle who owns what?
• 55:02
Speaker 1: Because that's, I mean, like, the Victor Miller of it all, right?
• 55:05
Speaker 1: I mean, this... I own Friday the 13th, the computer
• 55:08
Speaker 1: game or the game. And you know what? Like one year,
• 55:12
Speaker 1: one year into the game existing, it no longer existed
• 55:15
Speaker 1: because the rights for that game were given to the
• 55:18
Speaker 1: people and they didn't actually have them. And then they
• 55:20
Speaker 1: had to take it down. It's like, Jesus Christ, like
• 55:22
Speaker 1: fucking figure this out and stop, stop roping innocent gamers
• 55:26
Speaker 1: into this bullshit. You know what I mean? Stop roping
• 55:28
Speaker 1: a game company into this bullshit. Cause it was like
• 55:30
Speaker 1: a Kickstarter or something. Even I was like, oh my God,
• 55:33
Speaker 1: like people gave these people money, but it's like.
• 55:35
  Speaker 2: It's a whole thing.
• 55:36
Speaker 1: Like Friday the 13th is the worst one, but it's
• 55:40
Speaker 1: finally been answered. And like, you know what? If, if
• 55:42
Speaker 1: they have their own Jason universe stupidity going on to
• 55:47
Speaker 1: in tandem to this, I'm much more interested in what
• 55:49
Speaker 1: this is doing then. Oh, just more Jason. Like, okay.
• 55:54
  Speaker 1: I've seen that before. I have, I mean, I've seen
• 55:58
Speaker 1: this in other things, but I've never seen this before.
• 56:02
Speaker 1: like this. And that is what's most exciting. Like I,
• 56:06
Speaker 1: you know, I don't know if we're going to see
• 56:09
Speaker 1: a killer Jason in this show and I don't know
• 56:12
Speaker 1: if I need to.
• 56:13
Speaker 2: That's the thing. I feel like they have that option.
• 56:16
Speaker 2: Like as it continues on, if they want to work
• 56:19
Speaker 2: him in and he starts doing his own, which we
• 56:23
Speaker 2: may get to that later, but like you start to
• 56:25
Speaker 2: see things that are like, okay, the Jason of it
• 56:28
Speaker 2: all is still involved and, But it's still focusing primarily
• 56:32
Speaker 2: on Pamela. So it's like we could work them both
• 56:35
Speaker 2: in and have two different murdering plot lines going on
• 56:39
Speaker 2: at the same time. We could wrap up her version
• 56:42
Speaker 2: and pass the torch and like it could continue on
• 56:45
Speaker 2: and do a whole season of just Jason out in
• 56:47
Speaker 2: the woods murdering people. I don't know that that's going
• 56:49
Speaker 2: to be interesting comparatively, but there's definitely a lot of
• 56:53
Speaker 2: different ways they could play it. But I mean, there's already...
• 56:56
Speaker 2: Enough of a tease of Jason in the woods that
• 56:59
Speaker 2: like we definitely can work him in as part of
• 57:02
Speaker 2: the killing aspect of it. But I think what's been
• 57:06
Speaker 2: so interesting in the opening of the show is that
• 57:09
Speaker 2: that doesn't have to be there. That what we're doing
• 57:13
Speaker 2: with the Pamela plotline is already so interesting on its
• 57:17
Speaker 2: own that I'm good with her. If we didn't even
• 57:20
Speaker 2: get to Jason this early on, if we waited until
• 57:24
Speaker 2: episode eight and they were like, oh, look, there's that
• 57:26
Speaker 2: kid in the woods. I would be fine with that
• 57:28
Speaker 2: because she's done so much in the first two episodes
• 57:31
Speaker 2: here that it's really– promising that like there's already so
• 57:36
Speaker 2: much for her to do as a character and like
• 57:39
Speaker 2: there's so much of her life going on there's a
• 57:42
Speaker 2: lot more aspects to her than you would expect in
• 57:46
Speaker 2: something that's just like ah we're gonna do a cheesy
• 57:49
Speaker 2: backstory about this serial killer and it's like well it
• 57:52
Speaker 2: could have just been that but i feel like they
• 57:54
Speaker 2: did at least give enough character to her and then
• 57:59
Speaker 2: bring in a real actress that can kind of dig
• 58:01
Speaker 2: into this and like you feel like you're you're seeing
• 58:04
Speaker 2: things that you wouldn't expect to see in a show
• 58:07
  Speaker 2: like this.
• 58:08
Speaker 1: Yeah. I, and you know, you said it best, like
• 58:10
Speaker 1: Linda Cardinale is the best part of this show. She's
• 58:16
Speaker 1: so good. I mean, I mean the show itself in
• 58:19
Speaker 1: terms of like the sensibilities that it has, I love
• 58:22
Speaker 1: that the second episode of this show to, to talk
• 58:24
Speaker 1: a little bit about the second episode. Now I, I
• 58:26
Speaker 1: would think like, I love that it opens with the
• 58:30
Speaker 1: beginning of the, or the end of the first movie.
• 58:33
Speaker 1: Like it opens with the end of the Friday the 13th.
• 58:38
Speaker 1: And it's like the people that are making this show
• 58:40
Speaker 1: understand what the people who are watching the show expect
• 58:44
Speaker 1: from the show, but not that it's like, I don't
• 58:48
Speaker 1: need this to be like, I don't know. I just
• 58:51
Speaker 1: don't need you to do Friday the 13th, the movie,
• 58:53
  Speaker 1: the show.
• 58:55
Speaker 2: Well, I feel like they at least are working in
• 58:58
Speaker 2: like I feel like that's the sense of humor of
• 59:01
Speaker 2: it all is like it is working in like dorky
• 59:04
Speaker 2: little jokes just for the fans, because I don't think
• 59:09
Speaker 2: I even caught it. the first time but like when
• 59:11
Speaker 2: they're doing the stupid announcements did you hear that part
• 59:14
Speaker 2: of it when they're like on the speaker and at
• 59:16
Speaker 2: the founders day somebody hotter and it's like In 1779,
• 59:21
Speaker 2: Lieutenant Hodder McCain. Yeah, I did.
• 59:25
Speaker 1: I did catch that because it was on the subtitles.
• 59:27
Speaker 1: And I was like, there's only one person whose name
• 59:29
Speaker 1: is associated with this, whose name is that.
• 59:32
Speaker 2: So there's there's stuff like that. And then I just
• 59:35
Speaker 2: saw one today. Like if you're watching in the background,
• 59:38
Speaker 2: there's the girl wearing the Mickey Mouse shirt. Which is
• 59:42
Speaker 2: in the first movie. Like, so they're working in these
• 59:44
Speaker 2: references to the other ones that are like so minor
• 59:47
Speaker 2: that like, unless you're a big horror dork, you don't
• 59:50
Speaker 2: even pick up on them. But for the hardcore fans,
• 59:54
Speaker 2: it's like you've got those little touches, and then when
• 59:57
Speaker 2: you get to the gore aspect of it, I'm like, no,
• 1:00:00
Speaker 2: it's full-on horror movie there. So it's delivering the horror
• 1:00:03
Speaker 2: stuff and the stuff specifically for the horror fans, but
• 1:00:08
Speaker 2: it's also shoving all that in the middle of a
• 1:00:12
Speaker 2: drama that's going on that could be a very different
• 1:00:16
Speaker 2: show for a different audience if that's how they wanted
• 1:00:18
Speaker 2: to spin it. But they're still like they've found a
• 1:00:21
Speaker 2: way to kind of like straddle that line. And it's
• 1:00:24
Speaker 2: like it's doing both at the same time and I
• 1:00:26
Speaker 2: think doing a pretty good job of it so far.
• 1:00:29
Speaker 1: I feel like and again, like, you know, I feel
• 1:00:33
Speaker 1: like the choices that they're making are I don't know.
• 1:00:36
Speaker 1: You know, we talk about like the choices you make
• 1:00:37
Speaker 1: are so important, but the choices you don't make are
• 1:00:39
Speaker 1: important as well. And the ones that they're not making
• 1:00:42
Speaker 1: here are smart, not rushing into like, well, people want,
• 1:00:47
Speaker 1: you know, it's like that whole fucking Prometheus thing where
• 1:00:49
Speaker 1: it's like, well, nobody showed up because they didn't say
• 1:00:51
Speaker 1: it was an alien movie. It's like, that's not why
• 1:00:53
Speaker 1: they didn't show up. They didn't show up because people
• 1:00:56
Speaker 1: just didn't get that movie. Like I just, they didn't
• 1:00:58
Speaker 1: get it. Like there was the expectation wasn't there. The
• 1:01:00
Speaker 1: audience was, the audience found that movie eventually. I think
• 1:01:03
Speaker 1: that movie fucking Prometheus is better than, than Romulus. Covenant
• 1:01:08
Speaker 1: is better than Romulus. Romulus is pretty much just alien. Like,
• 1:01:12
Speaker 1: it even has Ian Holm in it. Like, prove me wrong.
• 1:01:15
Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Like, I really like, again, like to go
• 1:01:18
Speaker 1: back to all of this, like Romulus takes place before this.
• 1:01:21
Speaker 1: And who cares? Just like Prometheus and covenant, like the
• 1:01:25
Speaker 1: same thing. It's like, who fucking cares? I just want
• 1:01:27
Speaker 1: to know how the story ends. You know what I mean?
• 1:01:29
Speaker 1: Like just tell an interesting story. And I don't really
• 1:01:32
Speaker 1: care where this takes place in anything. As long as
• 1:01:35
Speaker 1: the timeline, as long as the story is important, the
• 1:01:37
Speaker 1: timeline is unimportant. And with this show, like, It's clear
• 1:01:43
Speaker 1: to me that the people that are making the show,
• 1:01:44
Speaker 1: I think, understand that as well. It's less about like, oh, well,
• 1:01:49
Speaker 1: at this point in this, this had happened. It's like, no,
• 1:01:52
Speaker 1: we're going to do whatever. You know, at the beginning
• 1:01:54
Speaker 1: of the second episode, all of a sudden we have
• 1:01:56
Speaker 1: the end of the first movie. Like shot for shot,
• 1:02:00
Speaker 1: like even has a little thing in the water and
• 1:02:02
Speaker 1: then he jumps out of the water. Like all of
• 1:02:04
Speaker 1: that is coming from the end of the first movie.
• 1:02:07
Speaker 1: They're just doing stylistically fun things. Like, which is much
• 1:02:10
Speaker 1: more interesting than like, well, you got to make sure
• 1:02:13
Speaker 1: this ties into this. Like that's so just boring. And
• 1:02:17
Speaker 1: like tedious is the word I would use. And frankly,
• 1:02:19
Speaker 1: like uninteresting, like who cares that much? It's like, you know,
• 1:02:25
Speaker 1: the Han Solo movie, like how'd you get that scar
• 1:02:27
Speaker 1: on your chin? Oh, it's solo.
• 1:02:29
Speaker 2: Cause you're by yourself. Let me tell you about it.
• 1:02:31
Speaker 1: Yeah. Like two hours. Here we go. Who cares?
• 1:02:35
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 1:02:35
Speaker 1: Like, The way of telling prequel stories has changed so
• 1:02:40
Speaker 1: much in the last 20 years, and I'm so glad.
• 1:02:42
Speaker 2: Well, I think that's something that's different about this too,
• 1:02:46
Speaker 2: and different from what I might have expected, but I
• 1:02:50
Speaker 2: think is also what's making it move along as well
• 1:02:54
Speaker 2: as it does, and something very different from your, specifically
• 1:02:58
Speaker 2: your old school slashers. Because usually you had... a bunch
• 1:03:03
Speaker 2: of dumb kids and they were like obnoxious and you
• 1:03:06
Speaker 2: just wanted them to die. Whereas as good as, as
• 1:03:09
Speaker 2: Linda is like, we've also introduced several other characters specifically,
• 1:03:14
Speaker 2: like grace is like a really interesting character. Like even
• 1:03:18
Speaker 2: from the very beginning of that first episode, I'm like,
• 1:03:20
Speaker 2: Oh look, Jason's got a friend. Like that's the, you wouldn't.
• 1:03:23
Speaker 1: Like a genuine child friend, which again, not part of
• 1:03:27
Speaker 1: anything because there's so little of any of this. Yeah. Yeah.
• 1:03:32
Speaker 2: So like introducing, yeah, introducing her as being this like
• 1:03:36
Speaker 2: so pure that she sees past everything else. Like she
• 1:03:39
Speaker 2: doesn't judge him for anything except who he is and
• 1:03:42
  Speaker 2: he's a good kid. And like, that's, that's a nice
• 1:03:45
Speaker 2: little bond that we get in the very beginning. And
• 1:03:47
Speaker 2: then those flashbacks. So we're, we're building a lot with her.
• 1:03:50
Speaker 2: So that, uh, that Gwendolyn girl that's her, I, I
• 1:03:54
Speaker 2: was like, has she been another thing? Cause she's really
• 1:03:56
Speaker 2: good at this. I was surprised for as young as
• 1:03:58
Speaker 2: she is. Like the performance is really good. But then
• 1:04:02
Speaker 2: also you add in the Claudette of it all, who
• 1:04:05
Speaker 2: is a little closer to your girls. Like she's who would,
• 1:04:09
Speaker 2: you know, in a lot of the other words, be
• 1:04:10
Speaker 2: the final girl. And I guess kind of in this series,
• 1:04:13
Speaker 2: she is because we sort of know where things are
• 1:04:17
Speaker 2: going for Claudette in the grand picture again, unless they
• 1:04:20
Speaker 2: totally change things. But you're also not making her like
• 1:04:25
Speaker 2: the boyfriend's just an idiot. Like the boyfriend's like every
• 1:04:27
Speaker 2: dumb character in all of the slasher movies, right? But
• 1:04:30
Speaker 2: there's a little more to Claudette. And I'm already like, well,
• 1:04:33
Speaker 2: I kind of want to see what's going on here.
• 1:04:35
Speaker 2: And we're investing a little more time in this character
• 1:04:38
Speaker 2: than you normally would with any group of dumb teenagers
• 1:04:41
Speaker 2: in the slashers. So I think adding these characters in
• 1:04:45
Speaker 2: along the way, in addition to the sheriff being really
• 1:04:49
Speaker 2: interesting too, I think immersing you in this little town
• 1:04:53
Speaker 2: and then adding in all these characters that actually do
• 1:04:57
Speaker 2: have interesting side stories and what little backstory we get
• 1:05:01
Speaker 2: of them along the way is like kind of fascinating.
• 1:05:04
Speaker 2: So I, to me, that's kind of like taking it
• 1:05:06
Speaker 2: up a couple of notches from even your normal standard
• 1:05:10
  Speaker 2: streaming show.
• 1:05:12
Speaker 1: No, I completely agree. You know, you, you, you put
• 1:05:14
Speaker 1: it pretty aptly. Like there's, there's a lot of threads
• 1:05:17
Speaker 1: that the film, the, the films don't establish because the
• 1:05:21
Speaker 1: films are interested in something else that the show is
• 1:05:24
Speaker 1: so much more interested in, which is, Giving us characters
• 1:05:28
Speaker 1: to care about. And there was, you know, it's funny,
• 1:05:30
Speaker 1: there was like so little of that in the original movies.
• 1:05:34
Speaker 1: I mean, again, like to the point where, you know,
• 1:05:36
Speaker 1: Siskel and Ebert and so many other people were derivative
• 1:05:39
Speaker 1: of those movies because, and I'm not saying... unjustifiably, I
• 1:05:44
Speaker 1: get it, but you know, like, oh, they're just killing people.
• 1:05:46
Speaker 1: There can't be any art to this. Like, oh my God, fine.
• 1:05:49
Speaker 1: Like you sound as kind of fuddy, you sound as
• 1:05:52
Speaker 1: fuddy-duddy as you're trying to avoid, you know? And that's
• 1:05:55
Speaker 1: the thing, like this show, I think is much more
• 1:05:57
Speaker 1: interested in, like you said, telling an interesting story, having
• 1:06:00
Speaker 1: these characters, having interesting characters. Look, I have zero awareness
• 1:06:06
Speaker 1: as to where the Claudette character goes, right? Because, again,
• 1:06:09
Speaker 1: I've seen the first movie one time. And I'm not
• 1:06:12
Speaker 1: going to go watch the first movie until I'm done
• 1:06:15
Speaker 1: watching the first eight.
• 1:06:16
Speaker 2: Episodes of the show. And if they even go down
• 1:06:20
Speaker 2: that road, like we said, they can change things up
• 1:06:23
Speaker 2: as much as they want in this kind of scenario.
• 1:06:25
Speaker 2: So we really don't know for sure where it's going.
• 1:06:28
Speaker 1: Because we know that Pamela Voorhees didn't feed people to
• 1:06:31
Speaker 1: bears in the movie. Yeah. i like that part oh
• 1:06:35
Speaker 1: yeah her feet my girlfriend and i were like what
• 1:06:37
Speaker 1: the fuck is oh bears got.
• 1:06:39
Speaker 2: It bears well and then i was like i've seen
• 1:06:42
Speaker 2: a lot of people try to cover up the fact
• 1:06:44
Speaker 2: that oops i killed somebody before but like i don't
• 1:06:47
Speaker 2: think i've seen that version of it i was like
• 1:06:49
Speaker 2: this far in to come up with a new interesting
• 1:06:52
Speaker 2: way to get rid of your body in a way
• 1:06:54
Speaker 2: that sort of seems like maybe it was legit it's
• 1:06:58
Speaker 2: like ah just smear some tuna on and put some
• 1:07:01
Speaker 2: money in their hair and it's like yeah it's fine
• 1:07:06
Speaker 2: bears will eat them it's okay and within the story
• 1:07:09
Speaker 2: she's right i don't know if it works for real
• 1:07:11
Speaker 2: we'll have to try it one of these days but
• 1:07:13
Speaker 2: right within the story it worked and i was like
• 1:07:16
Speaker 2: that's a cool and interesting way to deal with this
• 1:07:19
Speaker 2: problem that well now i've got two dead bodies what
• 1:07:21
Speaker 2: do i do with them and that that was a
• 1:07:23
Speaker 2: way to deal with it.
• 1:07:25
Speaker 1: And I, I was going to ask you, because again,
• 1:07:28
Speaker 1: having only watched the first episode, the first four episodes,
• 1:07:31
Speaker 1: how do you feel about, again, to go to the,
• 1:07:34
Speaker 1: what they're doing differently of it all? How do you
• 1:07:37
Speaker 1: feel about them being like, there's a thing here? Like
• 1:07:39
Speaker 1: there's more going on here. I don't know what it is.
• 1:07:43
Speaker 1: And maybe they answer it in the back half of
• 1:07:46
Speaker 1: the season. They probably answer it to some respect and
• 1:07:48
Speaker 1: probably open up more doors, but. What is your take
• 1:07:53
Speaker 1: on kind of this? Because this feels a little like
• 1:07:55
Speaker 1: stranger thingsy to me.
• 1:07:58
Speaker 2: That's where I feel like it is going. I think
• 1:08:02
Speaker 2: if they just left it at that, that's also the
• 1:08:05
Speaker 2: way all horror movies in the woods are, you know,
• 1:08:08
Speaker 2: it's just like, Oh, there's something in these woods. And
• 1:08:11
Speaker 2: the guy at the gas station is going to tell you,
• 1:08:12
Speaker 2: you stay out of those woods because there's dark things
• 1:08:15
Speaker 2: there and you'll end up dead. And like, that's, I
• 1:08:18
Speaker 2: think there's an essence of that that's in all of
• 1:08:20
Speaker 2: these movies in the woods. You know, it's like, there's
• 1:08:22
Speaker 2: always something disturbing in the woods and, I mean, we
• 1:08:26
Speaker 2: built the entirety of the Evil Deads. It's just like,
• 1:08:29
Speaker 2: go out in the woods and something horrible is going
• 1:08:31
Speaker 2: to take you over and swoop through the woods and
• 1:08:35
Speaker 2: murder all your friends. So like, again, like anything in
• 1:08:38
Speaker 2: the woods has its own creepy vibe to it. And
• 1:08:41
Speaker 2: I think it could have just been that. But they
• 1:08:45
Speaker 2: are adding this other, that thing I said that was
• 1:08:48
Speaker 2: sort of piquing my interest from the beginning there, where
• 1:08:51
Speaker 2: they're just like, oh, there's something else going on. And
• 1:08:56
Speaker 2: we keep getting these company names. So the fact that
• 1:08:59
Speaker 2: we're getting... the business card with a name on it,
• 1:09:01
Speaker 2: and then we keep flashing on that door in the,
• 1:09:04
Speaker 2: in the garage. what I'm assuming is some sort of
• 1:09:07
Speaker 2: government building. So like now it is, now it's like,
• 1:09:11
Speaker 2: is this a government experiment that's gone horribly wrong? And
• 1:09:15
Speaker 2: now that's why she had to run away from them.
• 1:09:17
Speaker 2: So there's definitely like that backstory there that like, I
• 1:09:20
Speaker 2: feel like the more we dig into that, the more
• 1:09:23
Speaker 2: stranger things it's probably going to get. So I don't
• 1:09:26
Speaker 2: know that I have to have that. If it's done right,
• 1:09:30
Speaker 2: it could be interesting. If it's done badly, it could
• 1:09:33
Speaker 2: just be like, oh, this whole thing's silly.
• 1:09:35
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 1:09:36
Speaker 2: Right now, we're still kind of at that point where
• 1:09:38
Speaker 2: we don't really know. But they're definitely hinting at something
• 1:09:41
Speaker 2: that seems like it's heading more towards a... It's some
• 1:09:46
Speaker 2: bigger thing going on that somebody is orchestrating. It's not
• 1:09:50
Speaker 2: just spooky spirits in the woods, which also could just
• 1:09:54
Speaker 2: be all it is. But the way that they're building
• 1:09:57
Speaker 2: this up and the specifics that they're giving us make
• 1:10:00
Speaker 2: me think it's somebody is behind it all and somebody is...
• 1:10:04
Speaker 2: done some sort of weird experiments to Jason. And that's
• 1:10:07
Speaker 2: why he looked like that. And that's also probably why
• 1:10:10
Speaker 2: he has some sort of weird powers that kept him
• 1:10:13
Speaker 2: from dying and keep him from dying as time goes on.
• 1:10:17
Speaker 2: So much so that by space, they're trying to clone
• 1:10:20
Speaker 2: him because he's indestructible. So to jump ahead to silly. So,
• 1:10:26
Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I feel like that's to some extent
• 1:10:30
Speaker 2: where they're going. It's it's kind of the how far
• 1:10:33
Speaker 2: into that are they going to go? How specific are
• 1:10:36
Speaker 2: they going to answer that question in these eight episodes
• 1:10:40
Speaker 2: is where we're trying to find out.
• 1:10:42
Speaker 1: So how much of it have you watched the first
• 1:10:44
Speaker 1: just the first four?
• 1:10:45
Speaker 2: I just yeah, I just went halfway in. So I
• 1:10:48
Speaker 2: don't know where we're going on this season either.
• 1:10:50
Speaker 1: OK, I didn't want to have it like. kind of
• 1:10:53
Speaker 1: spoil my ability to talk about the show.
• 1:10:55
Speaker 2: That's kind of why I stopped. Okay.
• 1:10:57
Speaker 1: Yeah. We, we, okay. You know, we're, we're professionals at
• 1:10:59
Speaker 1: this folks where we're figuring this out on air, but we,
• 1:11:02
Speaker 1: we think, and we think in group group think parallel thought,
• 1:11:05
Speaker 1: I just didn't want to ruin it for myself because
• 1:11:07
Speaker 1: I feel like if I knew where this was going,
• 1:11:09
Speaker 1: I would be unable to talk about it right now.
• 1:11:13
Speaker 1: Even though it dropped completely immediately like this, you could
• 1:11:16
Speaker 1: watch this in eight fucking hours just sitting there like
• 1:11:19
Speaker 1: you could. People did, I'm sure. But I, I cannot
• 1:11:23
Speaker 1: do that. The most I can do, even with this,
• 1:11:26
Speaker 1: like my girlfriend and I watched the first episode two
• 1:11:30
Speaker 1: episodes and then we watched two more like i could
• 1:11:32
Speaker 1: not sit and watch four episodes of this in one
• 1:11:34
Speaker 1: sitting it's four hours that's a lot of.
• 1:11:36
  Speaker 2: Time that's a lot of shows again that's why i
• 1:11:39
Speaker 2: am so far behind on shows even stuff i want
• 1:11:42
Speaker 2: to see a lot of times it's just so much
• 1:11:44
Speaker 2: at once that i just i put it off the
• 1:11:48
  Speaker 2: only way you.
• 1:11:48
Speaker 1: Can watch like two hours of a show in a
• 1:11:50
  Speaker 1: sitting like a.
• 1:11:51
  Speaker 2: Serious show.
• 1:11:53
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 1:11:53
Speaker 2: Like normally I'm lucky if I get through more than
• 1:11:56
Speaker 2: one and that's, that's usually if, if I'm keeping up
• 1:11:59
Speaker 2: with a show as they're coming out, that's my best bet.
• 1:12:02
Speaker 2: Like if I know there's one that I like and
• 1:12:04
Speaker 2: I'm like, Oh, Wednesdays, they dropped the new episode and
• 1:12:06
Speaker 2: I watch it that Wednesday, I will keep on top
• 1:12:09
Speaker 2: of it as it goes. it's the ones that drop
• 1:12:12
Speaker 2: all eight at one time. I'm not saying anything about
• 1:12:14
  Speaker 2: this show, but I'm just like, I think that's a
• 1:12:16
Speaker 2: weird choice. I feel like.
• 1:12:18
Speaker 1: You're, you're of the mindset that the, the, the, the
• 1:12:21
Speaker 1: kind of staggered release schedule benefits you because you don't have,
• 1:12:24
Speaker 1: it's like the, it's like the, this costs a dollar.
• 1:12:27
Speaker 1: It is like, this is less than a cup of
• 1:12:29
  Speaker 1: coffee a day type thing. You're, you're not invest. I
• 1:12:31
Speaker 1: get it. Like it makes sense. It's old school. I mean,
• 1:12:34
  Speaker 1: it's like, that's how I.
• 1:12:36
Speaker 2: Watched TV my entire life. Like there was no other option.
• 1:12:40
Speaker 2: you're not the only one it was only the box
• 1:12:43
Speaker 2: set era that changed everything because that you had no
• 1:12:46
Speaker 2: option for the rest of your life you'd catch things
• 1:12:48
Speaker 2: on reruns they were out of order like none of
• 1:12:51
Speaker 2: it even made sense watching it back in the old
• 1:12:53
Speaker 2: days and it was the box set was the thing
• 1:12:55
Speaker 2: that turned the tide for geeks out there that made
• 1:12:59
Speaker 2: it then like in a sitting kind of thing we're
• 1:13:02
Speaker 2: gonna marathon through you know 12 episodes of this this
• 1:13:05
Speaker 2: weekend we're having a party or whatever dumb thing people
• 1:13:08
Speaker 2: started doing and And then once box sets started going
• 1:13:12
Speaker 2: to rental, then it was like, oh, I can go
• 1:13:14
Speaker 2: watch a whole season of this show that everybody's talking about.
• 1:13:17
Speaker 2: We normalized it. It really got normalized. That changed it
• 1:13:20
Speaker 2: to the point, yeah, that by the time streaming came along,
• 1:13:23
Speaker 2: that's how everybody did it. And I was like, okay,
• 1:13:27
Speaker 2: but I got other stuff to do, man. I can't
• 1:13:29
Speaker 2: just sit there for 16 hours. Binge, you can't.
• 1:13:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not binge watching. I'm tired of sitting there.
• 1:13:36
  Speaker 1: I'm not a binge-watching guy either. I'm really not. I
• 1:13:42
Speaker 1: like having stuff on in the background when I'm doing
• 1:13:45
Speaker 1: something else. My girlfriend and I play a lot of
• 1:13:46
Speaker 1: board games or we'll be doing stuff in the living
• 1:13:49
Speaker 1: room at my house. I'll be playing video games and
• 1:13:52
Speaker 1: she'll be doing something else and we'll have something on
• 1:13:54
Speaker 1: my iPad. But I'm not just sitting and watching this. Like,
• 1:13:58
Speaker 1: holy shit. Like, I could not do that. I could
• 1:14:01
Speaker 1: not sit and just watch a show for eight hours
• 1:14:04
Speaker 1: and do nothing else. That feels like, and I get, like,
• 1:14:08
Speaker 1: I have lamented the staggered release schedule of things. Like,
• 1:14:13
Speaker 1: why not just release the damn thing all at once?
• 1:14:15
Speaker 1: But I understand where you're coming from. Like, it makes
• 1:14:18
Speaker 1: sense to me. Because, like, again, the way you engaged
• 1:14:20
Speaker 1: with TV before was, I have an hour a week
• 1:14:22
Speaker 1: I can watch it. And it's an hour a week
• 1:14:24
Speaker 1: that I can engage with it. And that's it. I
• 1:14:26
  Speaker 1: get it.
• 1:14:27
  Speaker 2: It's bite size. It's manageable. You know, it's like it's
• 1:14:30
Speaker 2: something you can do. But I know, again, I'm not
• 1:14:33
Speaker 2: I'm not blind to it. Like I one of the
• 1:14:37
Speaker 2: people on my show, like they hate when they do
• 1:14:40
Speaker 2: stuff like that. And to the point, we'll wait until
• 1:14:43
Speaker 2: an entire season is over. And just not listen to
• 1:14:46
Speaker 2: everybody running their mouth on the internet and just ignore everybody.
• 1:14:50
Speaker 2: And then when it's done, we'll sit down and watch
• 1:14:53
Speaker 2: it all because they hate the idea of not being
• 1:14:55
Speaker 2: able to go to the next episode, not being able
• 1:14:58
Speaker 2: to finish it if they want to finish it. And
• 1:15:00
  Speaker 2: I'm like, I get it.
• 1:15:01
  Speaker 1: I am that way. I don't have that, but I
• 1:15:03
Speaker 1: get it. I am that way with stuff. Like, I
• 1:15:05
Speaker 1: won't watch something until the show's over for the most part.
• 1:15:08
Speaker 1: Unless someone else wants to talk about it, like Mike
• 1:15:11
Speaker 1: and I doing Rings of Power or you and I
• 1:15:14
Speaker 1: doing this, like... I don't really, for the most part,
• 1:15:19
Speaker 1: watch shows until they're over because I just want to
• 1:15:21
Speaker 1: be able to watch, like you said, I just want
• 1:15:22
Speaker 1: to be able to have the option to watch the
• 1:15:24
Speaker 1: whole show and not have to wait. Because I know
• 1:15:27
Speaker 1: that there's not any consistency with fucking waiting a la
• 1:15:29
  Speaker 1: Stranger Things.
• 1:15:31
Speaker 2: I like the, again, it's so old school network TV,
• 1:15:36
Speaker 2: but I also like that having a week of of
• 1:15:39
Speaker 2: processing it yourself. So like you, there is no option
• 1:15:43
Speaker 2: to watch the next one. You gotta wait till next
• 1:15:44
Speaker 2: week when the new one comes out, but it also
• 1:15:47
Speaker 2: gives you a week to sort of mull over it
• 1:15:49
Speaker 2: all and be like, well, wait, so what was going on?
• 1:15:52
Speaker 2: So like you're, you're being extra geeky for a week
• 1:15:55
Speaker 2: long in between anyway, but even more so once the
• 1:15:58
Speaker 2: fan bases got out there and now it gives like
• 1:16:01
Speaker 2: a week of time in between each episode. for all
• 1:16:05
Speaker 2: the geeks to get together, you know, mostly on the internet,
• 1:16:08
Speaker 2: but occasionally even people you run into in the real
• 1:16:10
Speaker 2: world and you'll sit there and like, you'll, you'll go
• 1:16:12
Speaker 2: down a rabbit hole. That's like, well, what about this?
• 1:16:15
Speaker 2: Do you think this is going to happen? Like, so again,
• 1:16:17
Speaker 2: being a geek, like it just feeds that so much,
• 1:16:21
Speaker 2: having time to spread it out and having time to
• 1:16:24
Speaker 2: dig into the theories and the crazy like thoughts that
• 1:16:27
Speaker 2: you have when you're waiting for the next thing to happen.
• 1:16:30
Speaker 2: that you don't get those when you binge it. If
• 1:16:32
Speaker 2: you sit down for eight hours straight, you don't get
• 1:16:34
Speaker 2: to wonder what's going to happen on episode six because
• 1:16:37
Speaker 2: you already know. You sat and watched it all. So
• 1:16:39
Speaker 2: it kind of kills that aspect that is kind of
• 1:16:42
Speaker 2: one of my favorite parts of being involved in a
• 1:16:45
Speaker 2: series is sort of the pacing it out and the
• 1:16:48
Speaker 2: figuring out what's going on as you go along versus
• 1:16:53
Speaker 2: just having it all thrown at you at once.
• 1:16:55
  Speaker 1: You're advocating for a.
• 1:17:00
Speaker 1: Way of enjoying tv that is an old school way
• 1:17:03
Speaker 1: of doing it but i don't think it definitely is
• 1:17:05
  Speaker 1: i don't think it's a bad thing i think it's
• 1:17:07
Speaker 1: just i think in the in the day and age
• 1:17:10
Speaker 1: of people engaging with things transactionally they want to be
• 1:17:13
Speaker 1: able to watch everything all at once and i'm even
• 1:17:14
Speaker 1: i'm guilty of that i'm acknowledging it but at the
• 1:17:17
Speaker 1: same time it makes it easier for me who someone
• 1:17:20
Speaker 1: who does something like that i do which is talking
• 1:17:23
Speaker 1: about recent stuff but also being able to enjoy the
• 1:17:27
Speaker 1: things that I want to enjoy, because when I do
• 1:17:29
Speaker 1: have time, I do want to just watch as much
• 1:17:30
Speaker 1: as I can. And I tend to have something on
• 1:17:34
Speaker 1: at all times. Well, yeah, this is, brother, this is
• 1:17:37
Speaker 1: the fucking water cooler, dog. I don't know what you
• 1:17:40
Speaker 1: view this as, but this is, you know, this is
• 1:17:42
Speaker 1: the water cooler with the parasocial relationship, you know, at
• 1:17:45
Speaker 1: the end of the day.
• 1:17:47
Speaker 2: And that's, again, that's what led me to the internet world.
• 1:17:50
Speaker 2: It's like, I barely had that in the real world
• 1:17:54
Speaker 2: growing up. I was just watching it and wanting to
• 1:17:57
Speaker 2: have these conversations. And now that I can, I'm just like, finally,
• 1:18:01
Speaker 2: the internet is here and dorks can get together and
• 1:18:03
Speaker 2: talk and piss each other off probably because that's what
• 1:18:06
Speaker 2: people do on the internet. But eventually you'll find other
• 1:18:09
Speaker 2: people that have like similar thoughts. And there's a couple
• 1:18:12
Speaker 2: of shows that I do that with now. And I'm like,
• 1:18:15
Speaker 2: I enjoy that aspect of it. And the fan base
• 1:18:18
Speaker 2: that it builds is like, I think that's why you
• 1:18:21
Speaker 2: get weird fan bases around shows even more than movies
• 1:18:25
Speaker 2: a lot of times that are so hardcore is because
• 1:18:29
Speaker 2: it creates that and it also gives you a ton
• 1:18:32
Speaker 2: more material to dig into. But it also– that longer
• 1:18:37
Speaker 2: period of immersing yourself into it builds these fandoms and
• 1:18:42
Speaker 2: this relationship with other people as you converse about it
• 1:18:46
Speaker 2: all out there. that like if it's a movie you
• 1:18:48
Speaker 2: know you watch it and that weekend you talk about
• 1:18:50
Speaker 2: the last movie you saw and that's cool but then
• 1:18:53
Speaker 2: like a lot of people move on versus like those
• 1:18:55
Speaker 2: those fan bases for shows that are around for years
• 1:18:58
Speaker 2: and years i mean you look at something like supernatural
• 1:19:00
Speaker 2: or like those people are crazy like the the hardcore
• 1:19:06
Speaker 2: fan base that came from that because It was a
• 1:19:09
Speaker 2: weekly show and it had things that went on for
• 1:19:13
Speaker 2: years at a time. There were story arcs that went
• 1:19:15
Speaker 2: on forever. And like it allowed people to just dig
• 1:19:18
Speaker 2: into that week in and week out and find each
• 1:19:20
Speaker 2: other at conventions and on the Internet. And like it
• 1:19:23
Speaker 2: just built this crazy fan base that like, I don't know,
• 1:19:26
Speaker 2: I still respond to that even for shows that I'm
• 1:19:29
Speaker 2: not into. I get it. I see other people being
• 1:19:31
Speaker 2: geeks about it. And I'm like, all right, I see
• 1:19:33
Speaker 2: what you're doing there. I respect you and your geekdom.
• 1:19:37
Speaker 1: It does take away from the kind of communal aspect
• 1:19:40
Speaker 1: of things. But I also think that the communal aspect
• 1:19:43
Speaker 1: of things is now just Twitter anyways. You know, it's just,
• 1:19:46
Speaker 1: it's gone into the kind of internet sphere of things. And,
• 1:19:49
Speaker 1: you know, there are people who do have conversations on
• 1:19:51
Speaker 1: Reddit in a civil fashion, but there are people that
• 1:19:53
Speaker 1: just sit and fucking scream at each other about, oh,
• 1:19:55
Speaker 1: traffic thunder or blazing saddles.
• 1:19:56
Speaker 2: That's most of it. Yeah.
• 1:19:57
Speaker 1: Yeah. Cancel it, whatever. Like, and you know, the loudest
• 1:20:00
Speaker 1: assholes are the loudest assholes. You know, the people that
• 1:20:02
Speaker 1: are like me and you, I'm not saying we're quiet.
• 1:20:05
Speaker 1: I mean, we sit and talk about movies on the
• 1:20:06
Speaker 1: internet and post it on the internet. So I'm not
• 1:20:09
Speaker 1: going to pretend like we don't, but I just am
• 1:20:13
Speaker 1: so sick of fandom culture of a certain kind. Because
• 1:20:18
Speaker 1: for me, fandom culture is why we've gotten to the
• 1:20:25
Speaker 1: point where Star Wars doesn't matter anymore and Star Trek
• 1:20:27
Speaker 1: doesn't matter anymore and nothing matters anymore. And I really, like,
• 1:20:33
  Speaker 1: I have things that I love but I don't even
• 1:20:37
Speaker 1: care about Like, the mythology, like, you know, there's a
• 1:20:41
Speaker 1: new Mummy film coming out next year, right? Mummy 4,
• 1:20:43
Speaker 1: Book of the Dead is the title of the film, apparently.
• 1:20:47
Speaker 1: I could care less if they go and retcon the
• 1:20:49
Speaker 1: shit out of everything. Who fucking cares? Like, it's not
• 1:20:52
Speaker 1: the fucking gospel by any stretch of the imagination.
• 1:20:55
  Speaker 2: It's a movie.
• 1:20:56
Speaker 1: And the mythology of it is just, like, an interesting
• 1:21:00
Speaker 1: part that the people who are making the movie thought
• 1:21:02
Speaker 1: a little further through than they necessarily felt like they
• 1:21:05
Speaker 1: had to. That's kind of what it boils down to,
• 1:21:07
Speaker 1: because for the most part, whatever's on the screen needs
• 1:21:10
Speaker 1: to be entertaining. The mythology and all the other things
• 1:21:13
Speaker 1: are things that they can choose to involve themselves in,
• 1:21:16
Speaker 1: but don't necessarily have to. And with this show, they've
• 1:21:20
Speaker 1: kind of like, they're treading that, that line, right? It's
• 1:21:23
Speaker 1: like the center line of, well, okay, we have mythology
• 1:21:29
Speaker 1: that we can work with and is, is good enough.
• 1:21:34
Speaker 1: kind of fertile ground but it hasn't been tainted by
• 1:21:38
Speaker 1: being over trod over and over again because again it
• 1:21:41
Speaker 1: it has existed without mythology really for so long that
• 1:21:45
Speaker 1: because there's not mythology that they have to hew to
• 1:21:47
Speaker 1: they can kind of do whatever the fuck they want
• 1:21:49
Speaker 1: which is exciting which is why we have pamela vorhees
• 1:21:53
Speaker 1: at a self-help convention talking to a clearly also psychotic
• 1:22:00
Speaker 1: self-help guy who by the end of it gets, I
• 1:22:04
Speaker 1: don't know what the fuck does this guy hit him with?
• 1:22:06
Speaker 2: He hits him with, I don't know, but he takes
• 1:22:08
Speaker 2: off half of his face in the process.
• 1:22:10
Speaker 1: Which is fucking insane. Because again, like the violence in
• 1:22:13
Speaker 1: this show is so amped up that anytime someone is
• 1:22:17
Speaker 1: getting hit with things or punched or kicked, it's like,
• 1:22:20
Speaker 1: Oh my God, like they're like half dead. Um, By
• 1:22:23
Speaker 1: the time this is done. And it's again, like I'm
• 1:22:26
Speaker 1: here for it. Like, I like that the show has
• 1:22:28
Speaker 1: a hyper stylized level of violence. That's not trying to
• 1:22:33
Speaker 1: be like super serious. Like it lives within this weird.
• 1:22:37
Speaker 1: And I'm not going to say like pastiche of a 24,
• 1:22:40
Speaker 1: but like, you know what I mean? Like it is.
• 1:22:43
Speaker 1: A24-ified Friday the 13th, which the expectation is met, and
• 1:22:48
Speaker 1: I think that they knew what they were doing when
• 1:22:50
Speaker 1: they started this show. I think they knew what people
• 1:22:53
Speaker 1: were going to expect from it, and I think it's
• 1:22:55
  Speaker 1: nailing it.
• 1:22:56
Speaker 2: I think they just know this is the world they've created.
• 1:23:01
Speaker 2: These characters, as much as they're doing more with them,
• 1:23:04
Speaker 2: and they're fleshing out a lot more of all of
• 1:23:08
Speaker 2: these different characters, but when it comes time... To have
• 1:23:11
Speaker 2: even a basic thing like some guy comes and hits
• 1:23:14
Speaker 2: you upside the head, then it shifts into horror mode
• 1:23:18
Speaker 2: and it's like, oh no, but we're still Friday the 13th.
• 1:23:21
Speaker 2: Like we still exist in the same universe where all
• 1:23:24
Speaker 2: these other horrible things happen. So when it's time for violence...
• 1:23:27
Speaker 2: It's time for violence. And so that's what they delivered. Like,
• 1:23:31
Speaker 2: I feel like that's the again, the little like nod
• 1:23:34
Speaker 2: to the horror geeks. It is like, no, no, you're here.
• 1:23:36
  Speaker 2: You're on the right show. Don't worry. Like we're we're
• 1:23:39
Speaker 2: we're diving into character a little more than you're used to, maybe.
• 1:23:42
Speaker 2: But give it a minute and something bloody is going
• 1:23:44
Speaker 2: to happen. So don't worry about it.
• 1:23:46
  Speaker 1: And yeah, I, you know, I, I believe it's a,
• 1:23:49
Speaker 1: it looks like a baseball bat or a two by four.
• 1:23:51
Speaker 1: I don't know what he hits him with, but he
• 1:23:53
Speaker 1: fucks this guy up and it's gross.
• 1:23:55
  Speaker 2: It's gross.
• 1:23:57
Speaker 1: It's like genuinely gnarly. His like teeth are fucked up
• 1:24:00
Speaker 1: and he looks, you know what? And what's funny is
• 1:24:02
Speaker 1: he looks like Jason. Well, there you go.
• 1:24:07
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 1:24:07
Speaker 1: I don't know. Like he looks, I don't know. Like, again,
• 1:24:09
Speaker 1: like so much of this show, I feel like for
• 1:24:12
Speaker 1: me is just like, we know why you're here. And
• 1:24:15
Speaker 1: if you're really here and you're a fan of the movies,
• 1:24:19
Speaker 1: we can kind of riff in fun and interesting ways. Look,
• 1:24:23
Speaker 1: Linda Cardinelli is doing her own thing. I, you know, again, I,
• 1:24:27
Speaker 1: I don't really know what the original movies Pamela Voorhees
• 1:24:31
Speaker 1: was like, because I haven't seen it recently. Like I said,
• 1:24:33
Speaker 1: I'm going to watch it when we're done with this series.
• 1:24:36
Speaker 1: So if she's just like Linda Cardinelli, cool. If Linda
• 1:24:39
Speaker 1: Cardinelli is doing her own thing, great. I'm here for
• 1:24:40
Speaker 1: this again. What I'm assuming is a sociopath of some kind.
• 1:24:46
Speaker 1: Like what is your read on her character? Well, that's,
• 1:24:49
  Speaker 1: I mean, that's the thing.
• 1:24:50
Speaker 2: We got right up to what is maybe the most
• 1:24:53
Speaker 2: interesting part of that episode is like, yeah, that guy
• 1:24:56
Speaker 2: comes up and hits him with whatever he hits him with.
• 1:24:59
Speaker 2: seconds before she was about to bash his head in
• 1:25:02
Speaker 2: with a bowling ball and in public mind you like
• 1:25:06
Speaker 2: it's not like she was taking him out in the
• 1:25:07
Speaker 2: woods to go murder him she was going to walk
• 1:25:10
Speaker 2: up in front of a group of people and smash
• 1:25:13
Speaker 2: him in the face with a bowling ball i'm assuming
• 1:25:16
Speaker 2: so like she is definitely justifiably so question.
• 1:25:20
Speaker 1: Mark I mean, that guy is an asshole. So like,
• 1:25:23
Speaker 1: but I mean, like he confronted her in front. I mean,
• 1:25:26
Speaker 1: like she gets embarrassed by him in front of a
• 1:25:29
Speaker 1: group of people. It's the Hannibal of it all. Like,
• 1:25:31
Speaker 1: and again, like to go back to the Hannibal TV show,
• 1:25:33
Speaker 1: which speaks to something that the movies never really get to,
• 1:25:36
Speaker 1: which is like Hannibal hates rude people.
• 1:25:38
Speaker 2: That's like his thing.
• 1:25:40
Speaker 1: He's like, I hate rude people. He's like, you know,
• 1:25:42
Speaker 1: I think they talk about it in one of I
• 1:25:44
Speaker 1: don't remember. Is it one of the movies? I know
• 1:25:46
Speaker 1: it's the show where they're like this, this guy who's
• 1:25:49
Speaker 1: playing his clarinet is playing it out of tune in
• 1:25:51
Speaker 1: the orchestra. And therefore Hannibal, who has a great sense
• 1:25:53
Speaker 1: of hearing is annoyed by it. And so he kills
• 1:25:56
Speaker 1: him like, like just because of that. And it's like, okay,
• 1:25:59
Speaker 1: like Pamela Voorhees seems like that. It's like, you know what? Like,
• 1:26:04
Speaker 1: I'm not sure she's killed anyone in this show yet
• 1:26:06
Speaker 1: that I'm not like, yeah. Kind of had it coming.
• 1:26:09
Speaker 2: That's what I said. It's the Dexter of it all.
• 1:26:11
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it is.
• 1:26:12
Speaker 2: They suck, so who cares? I like him better than them,
• 1:26:15
Speaker 2: so go ahead and murder him, Dexter. I don't care.
• 1:26:17
Speaker 1: And for me, you know, and I think this cuts to,
• 1:26:21
Speaker 1: you know, to go back to the kind of a
• 1:26:23
Speaker 1: conversation we were having before we started recording, the marvel
• 1:26:25
Speaker 1: of it all. I don't need to see like, Oh,
• 1:26:29
Speaker 1: her secret identity gets exposed. Like I don't need her
• 1:26:31
  Speaker 1: to get caught. I don't give a shit. Like I,
• 1:26:34
Speaker 1: if someone gets too close, I want her to kill
• 1:26:36
Speaker 1: him and just move on. Like I'm, I'm past the
• 1:26:39
Speaker 1: Peter Parker gets revealed as Spider-Man story arc that apparently
• 1:26:45
Speaker 1: we were all obsessed with in the first or second
• 1:26:47
Speaker 1: versions of these movies that were coming out. Like, batman
• 1:26:51
Speaker 1: spider-man like they all had major plot lines in those
• 1:26:54
Speaker 1: movies about him keeping his secret identity they sat on
• 1:26:57
Speaker 1: those for so long that it's like it became a
• 1:27:00
Speaker 1: joke and now i'm as same with pamela vorhees or
• 1:27:03
Speaker 1: the dexter of it all like dexter has since come
• 1:27:06
Speaker 1: back as a tv show and everybody knows that he
• 1:27:09
Speaker 1: was the bay harper butcher Well, he just keeps killing
• 1:27:13
Speaker 1: them all. Right. It's like, you know what?
• 1:27:14
Speaker 2: They all find out each season. And then that season
• 1:27:17
Speaker 2: he usually takes out everybody he knows and he moves
• 1:27:20
Speaker 2: on to the next season and finds new people to
• 1:27:22
Speaker 2: figure it out. And then he has to kill them too.
• 1:27:24
Speaker 1: Because them finding out is fucking unimportant at this point.
• 1:27:27
Speaker 1: And that's my point with like this show, I think
• 1:27:31
Speaker 1: is coming from such an interesting place where it's like,
• 1:27:34
  Speaker 1: I don't, I don't understand what Pamela Voorhees was fucking
• 1:27:38
Speaker 1: doing with that bowling ball. And we never get to
• 1:27:39
Speaker 1: see what it is, but she was going to hit
• 1:27:40
Speaker 1: that guy in broad daylight. That was such a weird
• 1:27:44
Speaker 1: character beat. What was her plan? Like, obviously she didn't
• 1:27:47
Speaker 1: have a full plan, but like, okay, so you go
• 1:27:51
Speaker 1: over there, you bash that guy in the face with
• 1:27:53
Speaker 1: a bowling ball notion of a plan. That's what we go.
• 1:27:56
Speaker 2: And it's like, well, do you just stop at that
• 1:27:59
Speaker 2: point and be like, ha, you learned your lesson. Did
• 1:28:02
Speaker 2: you just sort of put them in your place and
• 1:28:03
Speaker 2: go back to your car and drive home? or what
• 1:28:06
Speaker 2: like do you wait around to get arrested like what
• 1:28:09
Speaker 2: where does that go if she follows through without that
• 1:28:12
Speaker 2: guy like beating her to the punch pun intended i
• 1:28:15
Speaker 2: suppose but so i don't know like that was one
• 1:28:20
Speaker 2: of the more interesting things in that whole run but
• 1:28:23
Speaker 2: definitely that episode of just like Where was this going
• 1:28:27
Speaker 2: and what was she going to do after that? Because normally, again,
• 1:28:32
Speaker 2: like with the guys earlier, it's like, well, then, okay,
• 1:28:34
Speaker 2: now you've got bodies, but then the logical part of
• 1:28:37
Speaker 2: your brain kicks in You're like, okay, now how do
• 1:28:39
Speaker 2: I cover this up? How do I get rid of
• 1:28:41
Speaker 2: the bodies? How do I continue on with my life
• 1:28:43
Speaker 2: and not go down for this? You can't do that
• 1:28:45
Speaker 2: when you're standing in front of a whole group of
• 1:28:47
Speaker 2: people and you just murder this guy. So, yeah. Was
• 1:28:51
Speaker 2: she going to stop herself? Was she going to be
• 1:28:53
Speaker 2: able to get everyone else to rally around her? Be like, yeah,
• 1:28:56
Speaker 2: this guy was an asshole. We taught him a lesson. Like,
• 1:28:59
  Speaker 2: I don't I don't know. But that was a really
• 1:29:02
  Speaker 2: interesting moment.
• 1:29:04
Speaker 1: Well, and like you said, it's because we don't see
• 1:29:08
Speaker 1: where it goes. We don't know. And again, maybe they
• 1:29:13
Speaker 1: probably address it in the back half of the season.
• 1:29:15
Speaker 1: I'm assuming something. I mean, it keeps going clearly like.
• 1:29:19
Speaker 1: what we kind of have at the end of this
• 1:29:22
Speaker 1: episode is again, like it's an interesting place to leave
• 1:29:27
Speaker 1: all of this. It's, you know, we all of a
• 1:29:30
Speaker 1: sudden realize, oh yeah, by the way, we are going
• 1:29:33
Speaker 1: to clearly have some kind of coming to the head
• 1:29:36
Speaker 1: of her and the cop because the cop finds the
• 1:29:39
Speaker 1: scissors and we know whose scissors those are. Those are
• 1:29:42
Speaker 1: her scissors in the guy's leg. The guy from the lab,
• 1:29:45
Speaker 1: apparently from Hawkins lab, uh, I mean, again, I don't
• 1:29:49
Speaker 1: know what else you fucking call them. Like we've seen
• 1:29:51
Speaker 1: this before. It's funny that like, like there's a riff
• 1:29:53
Speaker 1: within a riff on a thing that we've like, again,
• 1:29:56
Speaker 1: like if you were of a watcher of TV in
• 1:29:58
Speaker 1: the last 10 years, how could you not have seen
• 1:30:01
  Speaker 1: stranger things?
• 1:30:03
Speaker 2: I mean, at this point, I feel like everybody, I
• 1:30:05
Speaker 2: don't know if they all finished it, but they certainly
• 1:30:08
Speaker 2: all started it at one point.
• 1:30:10
Speaker 1: Right. But you know, right. You know what I mean? Like,
• 1:30:12
Speaker 1: that's my point. Like it's literally at this point, if
• 1:30:17
Speaker 1: you've seen that first season, they're riffing on that first
• 1:30:19
Speaker 1: season here. Yeah. Like even a little bit. And I, again,
• 1:30:22
  Speaker 1: like I'm, I'm so glad that Friday the 13th, a
• 1:30:29
Speaker 1: movie about a mother whose child dies because of negligence
• 1:30:35
Speaker 1: is being played this time is like, fuck these people.
• 1:30:38
Speaker 1: She's justified in her killing. Like, yeah.
• 1:30:42
Speaker 2: And you know what?
• 1:30:43
Speaker 1: And we haven't really talked about, we talked about a
• 1:30:44
Speaker 1: little bit. Jason is adorable.
• 1:30:48
  Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, he's a likable kid.
• 1:30:50
Speaker 1: He's a sympathetic character. And you're like, you know what?
• 1:30:53
Speaker 1: If he's killing people, it, uh, it kind of feels
• 1:30:56
Speaker 1: like he has a reason to be doing it. It's
• 1:30:58
Speaker 1: not senseless killing this time. It's justified. And you know what?
• 1:31:02
Speaker 1: You don't have to, again, you don't have to have
• 1:31:04
Speaker 1: Jason killing eight people for it to be entertaining. You
• 1:31:06
Speaker 1: can have them kill four people or 10 by the
• 1:31:10
Speaker 1: end of the run of the first season and And
• 1:31:12
Speaker 1: each one is interesting and exciting. It doesn't have to
• 1:31:14
Speaker 1: be this like fucking hour and a half, 12 person bloodbath.
• 1:31:18
Speaker 1: Like that's not required anymore. Like you, you can do
• 1:31:21
Speaker 1: more than that. I mean, Jesus Christ, I, you know,
• 1:31:24
Speaker 1: you've never seen Terrifier, but to speak to the Terrifier
• 1:31:27
Speaker 1: two of it all, there is a disembowelment scene in
• 1:31:29
Speaker 1: that film that goes on for five minutes. If that's
• 1:31:31
Speaker 1: what you need to see in your life, go watch
• 1:31:34
Speaker 1: it there. Like these are using violence and gore in
• 1:31:39
Speaker 1: a way that is like, it serves the narrative. And
• 1:31:41
Speaker 1: it like, it amplifies and it's like, holy shit. Like,
• 1:31:44
Speaker 1: you know, there's a scene in, when we talk about our,
• 1:31:48
Speaker 1: in the next two kind of tranches of episodes, the
• 1:31:50
Speaker 1: episode three and four, there's some violence in there that
• 1:31:52
Speaker 1: I'm like, good Lord in heaven show. This is wild.
• 1:31:56
Speaker 1: I've not seen this in like shows don't go this far,
• 1:32:00
Speaker 1: but it serves the narrative. Like, it serves the plot.
• 1:32:03
Speaker 1: It shows, like, what a complete psychopath Pamela Voorhees is.
• 1:32:08
Speaker 1: But again, justified. Like, I'm not sure she's a psychopath.
• 1:32:11
Speaker 1: She's just, like, she's just a pissed off mom.
• 1:32:15
Speaker 2: And you side with her. You see not just the
• 1:32:19
Speaker 2: negligence part of it, but, like, the way everybody treats
• 1:32:21
Speaker 2: her and the way that, I mean, she... She definitely
• 1:32:24
Speaker 2: is a little off the deep end at the beginning,
• 1:32:26
Speaker 2: but almost like the crazier she is, the more rational
• 1:32:30
Speaker 2: she seems like she's not just like standing on the
• 1:32:33
Speaker 2: dot crying anymore. Like by the time she like exercises
• 1:32:37
Speaker 2: those demons, so to speak, by murdering those first two guys,
• 1:32:41
Speaker 2: she like starts to feel better. And you see like
• 1:32:43
Speaker 2: that's when she becomes a little more normal. And that's
• 1:32:46
Speaker 2: when you also see she starts to toy with the
• 1:32:49
Speaker 2: idea of having a relationship again. She starts like deciding like,
• 1:32:53
Speaker 2: can I, can I move on with my life? And
• 1:32:56
Speaker 2: can I find this, you know, self-help version and realize
• 1:33:00
Speaker 2: this guy's an idiot. He doesn't know what he's talking about,
• 1:33:01
Speaker 2: but maybe I know a way to take care of this.
• 1:33:04
Speaker 2: And maybe I know a way to get better. And
• 1:33:07
Speaker 2: maybe it comes with murdering people. It seems to for her,
• 1:33:11
Speaker 2: but she seems way more functional and together the further
• 1:33:15
Speaker 2: she gets into this level of craziness.
• 1:33:18
Speaker 1: Well, and I think it's interesting, you know, we, we
• 1:33:21
Speaker 1: haven't really talked about the setting of the show, but
• 1:33:24
Speaker 1: the show is set in the seventies, which is like
• 1:33:26
Speaker 1: the height of paranoia filmmaking. And like, this is like
• 1:33:31
Speaker 1: leaning into it. Yeah. This is leaning into it. Like
• 1:33:34
Speaker 1: there's like some weird, like, again, we haven't talked about
• 1:33:36
Speaker 1: the Argonaut of it all, but there is a Argonaut
• 1:33:39
Speaker 1: door that again, stranger things, adjacent stranger things, immediate, like,
• 1:33:45
Speaker 1: That's the paranoia conspiracy theory. There's more going on here
• 1:33:49
Speaker 1: of it all. And again, it works. Cause this is
• 1:33:52
Speaker 1: a seventies thing. Like I'm here for it. The original
• 1:33:55
Speaker 1: movie was set in what? 54 that this part of
• 1:33:58
Speaker 1: it was set in 54. The Jason dies of it
• 1:34:01
Speaker 1: all like this. They've, they've really sped up the timeline. Right.
• 1:34:06
Speaker 1: Because like in the original movie, she's an old woman
• 1:34:09
Speaker 1: and Jason died when she was younger here. It's, she's
• 1:34:13
Speaker 1: younger and Jason died and we're seeing like immediately all
• 1:34:18
Speaker 1: of like the retribution that we would have seen before
• 1:34:20
Speaker 1: coming to pass now. And it's immediate. Like, we don't
• 1:34:24
Speaker 1: have to wait for Mrs. Voorhees to get old.
• 1:34:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, it works better, too, because you would be. Well,
• 1:34:31
Speaker 2: not just because, yes, we want to see young ish
• 1:34:34
Speaker 2: Linda versus the old lady in the movie. No offense
• 1:34:36
Speaker 2: to her. But like that, aside from that, it also
• 1:34:40
Speaker 2: like logically like you would be dealing with that that,
• 1:34:43
Speaker 2: you know, year after that it happens, not like. 20
• 1:34:47
Speaker 2: years down the line when you're like, just now, you
• 1:34:50
Speaker 2: know what? I'm upset about my son dying. So it
• 1:34:54
Speaker 2: makes a lot more sense as just like a story
• 1:34:57
Speaker 2: arc to be like, yeah, she's immediately, you know, in
• 1:35:01
Speaker 2: shock and spends, you know, eight or nine months standing
• 1:35:04
Speaker 2: on the dock, like still waiting for him to come
• 1:35:06
Speaker 2: up out of the water. And then after that, when
• 1:35:09
Speaker 2: she's sort of, you know, they first think they find
• 1:35:11
Speaker 2: a body is like when she thinks she has to
• 1:35:13
Speaker 2: deal with the And that's when everything starts to kind
• 1:35:18
Speaker 2: of go crazy and she starts killing people, coincidentally. But
• 1:35:22
Speaker 2: like I said, not so coincidentally. I feel like that's
• 1:35:25
Speaker 2: also part of it. It's a cathartic thing. She gets
• 1:35:29
Speaker 2: better the more she's killing people.
• 1:35:32
Speaker 1: And I don't know. I am so engaged with that narrative,
• 1:35:37
Speaker 1: with that idea, with what the show is doing. Because
• 1:35:41
Speaker 1: it's not... I haven't seen this before. It is shades
• 1:35:45
Speaker 1: of other things, but I actually think like this makes
• 1:35:49
Speaker 1: Dexter look really like one dimensional. This is how you
• 1:35:55
Speaker 1: do a show where it's like you have a killer.
• 1:35:58
Speaker 1: who is hiding in plain sight and doing all sorts
• 1:36:01
Speaker 1: of nasty wild shit. But you know what? It's all
• 1:36:04
Speaker 1: seemingly justified because all these people are, you know, again,
• 1:36:07
Speaker 1: like we're going to talk about in the next episode,
• 1:36:09
Speaker 1: like this child is being abused by her mother. Possibly
• 1:36:13
Speaker 1: this guy is being a dick towards her. Like in
• 1:36:15
Speaker 1: the first episode, she's being threatened physically. So like it's,
• 1:36:18
Speaker 1: you know, justified in terms of like self-defense and, Second episode,
• 1:36:22
Speaker 1: like you said, I don't know what the fuck she
• 1:36:24
Speaker 1: was going to do. I don't think she would have
• 1:36:26
Speaker 1: killed him, but she probably would have done as much
• 1:36:27
Speaker 1: as the other guy did.
• 1:36:28
Speaker 2: It would have looked as bad, yeah. His face would
• 1:36:30
Speaker 2: have been smashed in.
• 1:36:32
Speaker 1: Whacked him one good, but I don't think, I guess
• 1:36:36
Speaker 1: I don't think that doing the story the way that
• 1:36:39
Speaker 1: we've seen before has a lot of legs the way
• 1:36:42
Speaker 1: that this does. And this is a much more difficult
• 1:36:44
Speaker 1: way of doing things. It's a much more complicated narrative
• 1:36:47
Speaker 1: that they're telling. But I think it works better. I
• 1:36:50
Speaker 1: think it yields a more interesting story. And, you know,
• 1:36:53
Speaker 1: like you said, we have this character of Grace who
• 1:36:56
Speaker 1: is seemingly like dealing with sexual frustration and issues of attraction.
• 1:37:04
Speaker 1: And I'm not sure what yet. But again, like it
• 1:37:08
Speaker 1: seems like a really weird thought experiment on the sexual
• 1:37:13
Speaker 1: issues of Grace. the movies because again like that's the
• 1:37:16
Speaker 1: whole you know that's where the have sex and die
• 1:37:20
Speaker 1: of the horror franchise of horror tropes come from is
• 1:37:24
  Speaker 1: friday the 13th yeah so i mean we're seeing they're
• 1:37:28
Speaker 1: kind of musing on it really it's interesting claudette is
• 1:37:32
Speaker 1: already there like she is the teenager but we're also
• 1:37:35
Speaker 1: watching her like try to slow down the boyfriend as
• 1:37:39
Speaker 1: they go on so it's like you're you're seeing somebody
• 1:37:41
  Speaker 1: who's already at.
• 1:37:42
Speaker 2: That point and how they're dealing with it And you
• 1:37:45
Speaker 2: see Grace is just sort of coming into that point
• 1:37:48
Speaker 2: of like, she's the blossoming young girl that doesn't know
• 1:37:52
Speaker 2: what the hell to do because nobody knows what the
• 1:37:54
Speaker 2: hell to do when they hit teenage-dom. So like, she
• 1:37:58
Speaker 2: doesn't even fully understand what's going on with her yet,
• 1:38:01
Speaker 2: but it's starting to sink in that there's something going on.
• 1:38:04
Speaker 2: And like, you know, so by the time we move
• 1:38:08
Speaker 2: ahead and start getting into the hippies of it all,
• 1:38:10
Speaker 2: that's also very 70s coded that what better way to
• 1:38:15
Speaker 2: Have your sectional awakening with a bunch of hippies.
• 1:38:20
Speaker 1: Well, and that's, you know, again, like it's it's weird
• 1:38:22
Speaker 1: that it's weird that the show's tackling it, but not really.
• 1:38:27
Speaker 1: It's just weird because like it seems so. well thought
• 1:38:32
Speaker 1: out in a way that I don't really think of
• 1:38:35
Speaker 1: when I think of Friday the 13th. You know, I
• 1:38:37
Speaker 1: didn't talk about my exposure to Friday the 13th in
• 1:38:40
Speaker 1: the movies, really. Like I outside of the first one,
• 1:38:44
Speaker 1: I've seen. Which is the one with Corey Feldman where
• 1:38:50
Speaker 1: he fights Jason? Is that seven or eight?
• 1:38:54
Speaker 2: See, this is why you got to collect them all.
• 1:38:56
Speaker 2: Once you get them all, you can go, ah, and
• 1:38:57
Speaker 2: then this one and this one. So when you get
• 1:38:59
Speaker 2: to four and Corey Feldman becomes the Jason of it all,
• 1:39:04
Speaker 2: he has to make it look like Jason to, I guess,
• 1:39:07
Speaker 2: confuse Jason and then try to kill Jason. But then
• 1:39:12
Speaker 2: he sort of becomes Jason, but then not really.
• 1:39:15
Speaker 1: Kind of like Whatchamajig from Halloween 2?
• 1:39:17
Speaker 2: Yeah. Or Halloween 1, I guess. What was that, 5,
• 1:39:19
Speaker 2: the one that she's in? If you haven't seen the
• 1:39:23
Speaker 2: rest of them, then they sort of loop back around
• 1:39:25
Speaker 2: and undo that immediately, too, just like they do in
• 1:39:29
Speaker 2: Halloween 4. So they come up with that teaser ending,
• 1:39:33
Speaker 2: and then the next time around you see him, they're like, oh, no,
• 1:39:35
Speaker 2: we were just kidding. Not really. He's still fighting Jason.
• 1:39:38
  Speaker 2: It's fine.
• 1:39:40
Speaker 1: This is how you do a retelling of the prequel
• 1:39:45
Speaker 1: story of a character, right? Halloween, Rob Zombie.
• 1:39:49
Speaker 2: I did want to bring up the fact it is
• 1:39:51
Speaker 2: interesting that we're sort of inadvertently ended up on this
• 1:39:55
Speaker 2: when it's very similar beats overall to what we just
• 1:39:59
Speaker 2: discussed on your show a couple of weeks back when
• 1:40:03
Speaker 2: we did the Halloween one and two of it all
• 1:40:05
Speaker 2: with Rob Zombie's influence. And yeah, I mean, that's kind
• 1:40:09
Speaker 2: of that same idea of like, here's somebody who grows
• 1:40:12
Speaker 2: up to be a killer. Why did they end up
• 1:40:16
Speaker 2: like that? And like, the thing is, I don't know
• 1:40:18
Speaker 2: that anybody was asking that about Michael. Now, the thing is,
• 1:40:22
Speaker 2: nobody was asking about Jason either. But Jason gives you
• 1:40:26
Speaker 2: so much freedom that like, I kind of like that
• 1:40:30
Speaker 2: all we had was the story about the mom, really.
• 1:40:33
Speaker 2: And that was so minimal in the first movie that like,
• 1:40:36
Speaker 2: this just gives you free reign to do whatever you
• 1:40:39
Speaker 2: want with the mom, a whole lot of room to
• 1:40:41
Speaker 2: go wherever you want with Jason. So like this just
• 1:40:44
Speaker 2: leaves so many options because it wasn't so tied down. Whereas,
• 1:40:49
Speaker 2: I don't know, like everything that happened with the Michael
• 1:40:51
Speaker 2: Myers of it all, as we've discussed at great length,
• 1:40:56
Speaker 2: go back a few episodes. Yeah, I feel like it
• 1:41:00
Speaker 2: didn't feel necessary in that story. Whereas this, like, I
• 1:41:04
Speaker 2: don't know that it's necessary, but I welcome it. Because
• 1:41:07
Speaker 2: they're doing such a good job of it and they're
• 1:41:09
Speaker 2: just being interesting with the way they're tackling everything.
• 1:41:12
  Speaker 1: I think in terms of what I needed, I don't
• 1:41:15
Speaker 1: even like you said, I don't even think I need
• 1:41:18
Speaker 1: Jason to be a killer in this show. I think
• 1:41:21
Speaker 1: if you want to have like the spirit of Jason
• 1:41:23
Speaker 1: Voorhees because he died and like the thing that's not
• 1:41:26
Speaker 1: been answered is the lake of it all. And what
• 1:41:29
Speaker 1: does the lake mean? And, you know, to speak to because, again,
• 1:41:32
Speaker 1: if you're listening to this, you probably want us to
• 1:41:33
Speaker 1: talk a little bit about the mythology. But, you know,
• 1:41:36
Speaker 1: like to speak to the lake of it all. What
• 1:41:41
Speaker 1: happens when you die in Camp Crystal Lake's Crystal Lake
• 1:41:45
Speaker 1: has never been really explained in terms of a satisfying explanation.
• 1:41:51
Speaker 1: But it would seem, based on Crazy Ralph, who is
• 1:41:55
Speaker 1: in the movies, based on Crazy Ralph, there is something
• 1:42:00
Speaker 1: in the lake that is causing something to be going
• 1:42:04
Speaker 1: on outside of the lake that would maybe... yield a
• 1:42:08
Speaker 1: Jason or Jason-esque thing to happen, and that being a
• 1:42:15
Speaker 1: killer in the woods, question mark? So, that I think
• 1:42:20
Speaker 1: is very interesting, because for me, that's kind of like
• 1:42:23
Speaker 1: the J.J. Abrams mystery box of it all. There's the Argonaut, sure,
• 1:42:29
  Speaker 1: I don't know where that's going. I can make assumptions,
• 1:42:32
  Speaker 1: but I don't think there's any point. I think the
• 1:42:34
Speaker 1: thing that for me is more interesting is what does
• 1:42:36
Speaker 1: Camp Crystal Lake mean? And like, that's a question that's
• 1:42:39
Speaker 1: never really been answered. Well, and what is the purpose
• 1:42:42
Speaker 1: behind it? Assuming someone is coming up with this, is
• 1:42:47
  Speaker 1: it a plan?
• 1:42:49
Speaker 2: Is it a government plan? Is it like where we
• 1:42:52
Speaker 2: eventually end up? Is it just like military? Like, is
• 1:42:55
Speaker 2: it just trying to create a Jason super soldier out
• 1:42:58
Speaker 2: of it that can't be killed when you send him
• 1:43:00
  Speaker 2: into battle?
• 1:43:01
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 1:43:02
Speaker 2: Again, that seems a lot.
• 1:43:03
Speaker 1: Would that be dissatisfying to you if that was the case?
• 1:43:06
Speaker 2: I mean, it's certainly diving into the silly end of
• 1:43:09
Speaker 2: the lake, but it certainly would give them a reason.
• 1:43:14
Speaker 2: I mean, it is what we normally want to do
• 1:43:18
Speaker 2: is just turn everything into a weapon and make money
• 1:43:20
Speaker 2: off of it. So it doesn't seem disingenuous to the
• 1:43:24
Speaker 2: world we live in, either in the 80s or now, really.
• 1:43:28
  Speaker 1: So. I don't know.
• 1:43:30
Speaker 2: Again, if that's where we go, it's fine. If they
• 1:43:33
Speaker 2: handle it well, I think I would be okay with it.
• 1:43:37
Speaker 2: If they just want to do spookiness in the woods,
• 1:43:40
Speaker 2: I'm fine with that too. I already feel like that's
• 1:43:43
Speaker 2: such a big part of what goes on in most
• 1:43:45
Speaker 2: horror movies set in the woods. But in particular, the
• 1:43:48
Speaker 2: crystal lake of it all is like, whatever's going on
• 1:43:51
Speaker 2: in the woods has always just been like, bring kids
• 1:43:54
Speaker 2: out here, let them have sex and do drugs. And
• 1:43:57
Speaker 2: then I'm going to murder them. And like, if you
• 1:43:59
Speaker 2: want to just leave it as minimal as that, I'm
• 1:44:01
  Speaker 2: fine with that too. I, I, yeah, I don't, I don't.
• 1:44:04
Speaker 1: Need Jason to show up in this show. Like I
• 1:44:07
  Speaker 1: don't need a Jason with a mask. I would be
• 1:44:11
Speaker 1: perfectly fine with the spirit of Jason because he died
• 1:44:15
Speaker 1: in the lake being reincarnated. And that being a thing or,
• 1:44:19
Speaker 1: or any of that being a thing in terms of
• 1:44:21
Speaker 1: any bodies that have gone into the lake or, you know, whatever,
• 1:44:24
  Speaker 1: like I'm, I'm game for that. Like, I don't need
• 1:44:27
Speaker 1: it to be like, well, we're following, you know, here
• 1:44:28
  Speaker 1: comes Tommy. And like, I don't give a shit. I
• 1:44:31
  Speaker 1: don't think it's needed. I don't think it's necessary. And
• 1:44:33
Speaker 1: I think anybody who that's the expectation for the show,
• 1:44:37
Speaker 1: I think the show is doing a very good job at,
• 1:44:39
Speaker 1: at not leaning into that, which is important because if
• 1:44:44
Speaker 1: you're just, if you're just giving the fans what they want,
• 1:44:48
Speaker 1: that is a very small group of people that are
• 1:44:51
Speaker 1: not going to exist 20 years from now. And if
• 1:44:54
Speaker 1: you want this franchise to exist, you need to do
• 1:44:57
Speaker 1: something different with it. And I think that this is
• 1:45:00
Speaker 1: kind of checking a lot of those boxes, for me anyways,
• 1:45:03
Speaker 1: of this is a thing that's very different. It looks
• 1:45:06
Speaker 1: like something you've seen before, but it is still kind
• 1:45:08
Speaker 1: of doing its own thing in a lot of ways,
• 1:45:11
Speaker 1: inspired by a lot of the things that have come
• 1:45:13
Speaker 1: out since this came out. I mean, again, we've talked
• 1:45:16
Speaker 1: about Dexter and all these other things that have existed
• 1:45:20
Speaker 1: since the initial run of these movies. And, you know,
• 1:45:25
Speaker 1: I'm glad that this show is not existing in a vacuum.
• 1:45:29
Speaker 1: And it's very smart that it's not. And it's, again, like,
• 1:45:32
Speaker 1: leaning into, inspired by, drawing inspiration from other things that, again,
• 1:45:39
Speaker 1: live in the same world. Dexter... you know, I mean, again,
• 1:45:43
Speaker 1: breaking bad Sopranos, like any show that had a bad
• 1:45:47
Speaker 1: guy as the main character is inspired by Sopranos essentially,
• 1:45:54
Speaker 1: because it's the show that was like, yeah, you can
• 1:45:55
Speaker 1: have a villain as your main character and then kill people.
• 1:45:59
Speaker 1: And every single show that has a character like Pamela
• 1:46:02
Speaker 1: Voorhees or Dexter or what the fuck is his name
• 1:46:06
Speaker 1: in breaking bad? Oh God, I'm going to get roasted
• 1:46:11
Speaker 1: for that one. But his character.
• 1:46:13
  Speaker 2: I don't watch shows.
• 1:46:14
Speaker 1: Whatever the fuck. They all exist. Dwight or White. Walter White.
• 1:46:19
  Speaker 1: Walter White.
• 1:46:20
Speaker 2: There you go. I dug it out of there and
• 1:46:22
Speaker 2: I didn't even watch that one.
• 1:46:24
Speaker 1: All of those characters exist because of something like Tony Soprano's.
• 1:46:26
Speaker 1: This character included. And because, you know, I don't know
• 1:46:30
Speaker 1: if we would have a show with Pamela Voorhees killing
• 1:46:33
Speaker 1: people and us going, yeah.
• 1:46:34
  Speaker 2: It's justified.
• 1:46:36
Speaker 1: And it takes a lot to get to this point,
• 1:46:38
Speaker 1: but I'm glad we're living at this juncture in time because...
• 1:46:42
  Speaker 1: I don't think Friday the 13th has much of a
• 1:46:44
Speaker 1: future without people doing something with it that's completely removed
• 1:46:48
Speaker 1: from the Jason Voorhees of it all. What's funny is
• 1:46:52
Speaker 1: we keep saying, like, I don't know if Jason could
• 1:46:53
Speaker 1: be in this. In the opening credits, they do have
• 1:46:57
Speaker 1: Sean Cunningham's company mentioned as well. So theoretically, Jason could
• 1:47:01
Speaker 1: show up in this show, I guess, with the mask on,
• 1:47:05
Speaker 1: because Horror Incorporated is the other rights holders to the
• 1:47:09
Speaker 1: Jason Voorhees character, and they are mentioned. So I guess
• 1:47:13
Speaker 1: they could have Jason in this show as we know him,
• 1:47:17
Speaker 1: but I don't think it's as of right now, like
• 1:47:19
Speaker 1: the show is doing such a good job at doing
• 1:47:20
Speaker 1: its own thing. I'm like, we would kind of be
• 1:47:22
Speaker 1: gilding the lily in a way.
• 1:47:25
Speaker 2: Or cutting the legs out from under her. Like she's
• 1:47:28
Speaker 2: doing such a good job carrying the show by herself
• 1:47:32
Speaker 2: that like, if you bring him in too soon, like you,
• 1:47:36
Speaker 2: you take away from all the fun stuff she's doing,
• 1:47:38
Speaker 2: you know, it's like, so I, I, I feel like, again,
• 1:47:42
Speaker 2: if you want to tease that towards the end of
• 1:47:44
Speaker 2: the run, that's fine. Or even if they think they
• 1:47:48
Speaker 2: can spill over into a second season. But if you're
• 1:47:52
Speaker 2: going to keep her as the focus of it, I'm
• 1:47:55
Speaker 2: fine with not really getting to him as much. I
• 1:47:58
Speaker 2: feel like they're going to because I feel like they
• 1:48:01
Speaker 2: think they need to. I feel like story-wise, they think
• 1:48:05
  Speaker 2: that's what everybody's here for. I don't agree. I think
• 1:48:08
Speaker 2: Pamela's doing a great job at what she's doing.
• 1:48:10
  Speaker 1: But.
• 1:48:12
Speaker 2: I think the instinct would be, but we've got to
• 1:48:15
Speaker 2: bring Jason in. And I know, I don't know if
• 1:48:17
Speaker 2: they'd thrown that out when it was the original showrunner
• 1:48:21
Speaker 2: he specifically said he wanted to have the different eras
• 1:48:25
Speaker 2: of jason represented in the show as it went along
• 1:48:29
Speaker 2: which i'm assuming we're getting baghead jason at some point
• 1:48:32
Speaker 2: so i thought we were gonna see that but that
• 1:48:35
Speaker 2: also possibly changed hands with the showrunners. So maybe they
• 1:48:39
Speaker 2: threw that out. Maybe we won't get that much.
• 1:48:41
Speaker 1: I assume there's no more Brian Fuller in the show. Like,
• 1:48:44
Speaker 1: you know, I think the things that made the show
• 1:48:47
Speaker 1: Brian Fuller are there, but I don't know how much
• 1:48:49
Speaker 1: like it exists outside of the like Pamela Voorhees set up.
• 1:48:54
Speaker 1: I feel like they're doing a lot of like weird
• 1:48:56
Speaker 1: non Brian Fuller things that seem very like maybe it's
• 1:49:00
Speaker 1: maybe it's, you know, welcome to Derry adjacent, but it
• 1:49:03
Speaker 1: definitely feels very its own thing in a very good way. Yeah.
• 1:49:10
Speaker 1: I'm glad. I'm glad that this show is good because
• 1:49:13
Speaker 1: we as horror fans need wins that are not, I
• 1:49:18
Speaker 1: don't know, like elevated horror. And I hate that term,
• 1:49:22
Speaker 1: but like, cause that's a dumb fucking term. Like horror
• 1:49:25
Speaker 1: has always been elevated. Like it's, it's whatever, like horror
• 1:49:28
Speaker 1: has been able to talk about whatever the hell it
• 1:49:30
  Speaker 1: wanted always.
• 1:49:31
Speaker 2: It's all how you look at it. You know, it's
• 1:49:32
Speaker 2: like the, again, by the time the geeks like us
• 1:49:35
Speaker 2: came along, like we took the dumbest movies from the
• 1:49:39
Speaker 2: eighties and then we attached all this meaning and we
• 1:49:42
Speaker 2: came up with some sort of overarching plot that or
• 1:49:45
Speaker 2: overarching theme that runs through all the horror movies. So
• 1:49:49
Speaker 2: it's like, it's as elevated as you want to make it.
• 1:49:51
Speaker 2: If you want to sit around talking about it for
• 1:49:53
Speaker 2: hours on end, which obviously we do, like you can
• 1:49:56
Speaker 2: make it as elevated as you want, no matter how
• 1:49:58
Speaker 2: dumb the premise is. It's how much you want to
• 1:50:01
Speaker 2: put into it. They just started jamming that right up
• 1:50:05
Speaker 2: front when they hit certain movies later. But yeah, I
• 1:50:08
Speaker 2: think it's all elevated if you want to dig into it.
• 1:50:11
Speaker 1: Well, and, and that's why I hate that term. You know,
• 1:50:14
Speaker 1: it's like this, the, we, it's like, it's like, you know,
• 1:50:18
Speaker 1: well now using all white meat chicken, like what the
• 1:50:20
Speaker 1: fuck were you using before?
• 1:50:21
Speaker 2: You don't want to know. Right.
• 1:50:23
  Speaker 1: Exactly. And it's like, I, I don't, I don't know
• 1:50:26
Speaker 1: how to tell people this, but like good horror movies
• 1:50:28
Speaker 1: were coming out long before hereditary came out long before like, Oh,
• 1:50:32
Speaker 1: the Babadook, which God damn, I hate that movie. Like
• 1:50:36
Speaker 1: there are just some movies where I'm like, when I
• 1:50:37
Speaker 1: think about that movie, I'm just like the discourse around
• 1:50:39
Speaker 1: that movie is obnoxious. And that's not to speak to
• 1:50:42
Speaker 1: the movie itself, which is features like a screaming child
• 1:50:45
Speaker 1: for an hour and a half.
• 1:50:46
Speaker 2: There's a lot of kid to get over.
• 1:50:48
Speaker 1: There's a lot of kid in that movie. Congratulations. I, I,
• 1:50:52
Speaker 1: I think this is how you do this, right? Which
• 1:50:56
Speaker 1: is address a franchise that has existed for a very
• 1:50:59
Speaker 1: long time in a new way that, gives the people
• 1:51:04
Speaker 1: that are fans something that they've maybe never that they've
• 1:51:07
Speaker 1: seen before in a new way and people that have
• 1:51:09
Speaker 1: never seen this something interesting and exciting that feels fresh
• 1:51:14
Speaker 1: but is recognizable because again like part of this you
• 1:51:18
Speaker 1: have to like put some people at ease right like
• 1:51:20
Speaker 1: you have to put the people that are new people
• 1:51:22
Speaker 1: coming into this at ease like i would suggest this
• 1:51:25
Speaker 1: this show to my parents my parents like stranger things
• 1:51:27
Speaker 1: a fair amount I think my folks would like the show.
• 1:51:29
Speaker 1: Is it a little on the gory side? Sure. But
• 1:51:32
Speaker 1: do I think that like most people that have seen
• 1:51:35
Speaker 1: the full run of stranger things could watch this and
• 1:51:36
Speaker 1: be like, I'm kind of on board with this. Yeah.
• 1:51:39
Speaker 1: I think that this is kind of a more adjacent
• 1:51:42
Speaker 1: to a mainstream thing than Friday the 13th has been
• 1:51:45
Speaker 1: since the first movie came out.
• 1:51:48
  Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, that's what I was saying. I feel
• 1:51:49
Speaker 2: like the story is engaging enough that it would work
• 1:51:53
Speaker 2: for anybody that just, you know, turns on whatever new
• 1:51:55
Speaker 2: streaming show is on. it's only when it gets to
• 1:51:58
Speaker 2: the gory parts that it like sets it at a
• 1:52:00
Speaker 2: different place in time. And like, you have to be
• 1:52:03
Speaker 2: okay with that. But as long as you're okay with that, like,
• 1:52:06
Speaker 2: I feel like the story would welcome in people that
• 1:52:08
Speaker 2: aren't into Friday the 13th in particular, but I think
• 1:52:12
Speaker 2: even just not even into horror that much. I think
• 1:52:14
Speaker 2: the story is interesting enough. It could bring in some
• 1:52:17
  Speaker 2: new viewers.
• 1:52:19
Speaker 1: Well, and let's not, you know, kind of gloss over
• 1:52:21
Speaker 1: the fact that we kind of haven't talked about it.
• 1:52:24
Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that any of the violence as it's
• 1:52:26
Speaker 1: presented is deathly serious. It's rather comedic. Like there's a
• 1:52:31
Speaker 1: lot of like, darkly comedic moments a bag again my
• 1:52:35
Speaker 1: bag full of blood filling up on a man's head
• 1:52:38
Speaker 1: is very funny uh again her dragging these dead bodies
• 1:52:42
Speaker 1: around covered in you know bear attractant is very funny
• 1:52:46
Speaker 1: that's the the scene where the guy gets i mean
• 1:52:48
Speaker 1: i don't know how funny a guy getting whacked in
• 1:52:49
Speaker 1: the faces but this kind of like help me help
• 1:52:53
Speaker 1: me and she's like you shouldn't have fucked with me
• 1:52:54
Speaker 1: like that is comedic like they're the the violence in
• 1:52:58
Speaker 1: the show is not being presented in a It's being
• 1:53:02
Speaker 1: presented in the same way Terrifier presents it, where it's
• 1:53:05
Speaker 1: like it's serious, but it's also like the show understands
• 1:53:09
Speaker 1: that there's some comedy to the grotesque, and it's leaning
• 1:53:13
  Speaker 1: into it.
• 1:53:14
Speaker 2: It's just sort of winking at the audience. It's like, yeah,
• 1:53:18
Speaker 2: we know what you like. We know what we are, essentially.
• 1:53:22
Speaker 2: We're built from Friday the 13th, so we're going to
• 1:53:25
Speaker 2: deliver that when need be. But we're doing some other
• 1:53:28
Speaker 2: things along the way as well. But don't worry, we
• 1:53:30
Speaker 2: didn't forget about it. We're just going to sprinkle it
• 1:53:33
Speaker 2: in every now and then. which works for me.
• 1:53:35
  Speaker 1: Like I, I, I don't need it to be, I
• 1:53:39
Speaker 1: don't need it to be all the time. I do
• 1:53:40
Speaker 1: think that getting some non jokey violence works. And I think,
• 1:53:45
Speaker 1: you know, we, we do see a little bit of that,
• 1:53:50
Speaker 1: maybe not in this episode, but definitely kind of as,
• 1:53:54
Speaker 1: as the show goes on, but I'm, I'm a huge
• 1:53:56
Speaker 1: fan of being kind of aware of why people are here.
• 1:54:02
  Speaker 2: It's smart.
• 1:54:03
Speaker 1: And I think that smart film writing and TV writing
• 1:54:06
Speaker 1: and screenwriting in general is in short supply. And, you know, if,
• 1:54:12
Speaker 1: if you are able to get me on board with
• 1:54:14
Speaker 1: your show, two episodes in, yeah, you know, Brad, Caleb
• 1:54:18
Speaker 1: Kane is doing a pretty good job. Like he's, he's
• 1:54:21
Speaker 1: batting two for two. Cause that dairy show is getting like,
• 1:54:24
Speaker 1: you know, another season at least. And probably, you know,
• 1:54:27
Speaker 1: I think it's like a four, four season run. So,
• 1:54:30
Speaker 1: you know, Good for him. I don't know, like we've said,
• 1:54:33
Speaker 1: we've kind of steeled ourselves at watching this all in
• 1:54:36
Speaker 1: one sitting, so I don't know where this goes, if
• 1:54:39
Speaker 1: this does get anything more, but I like that this
• 1:54:42
Speaker 1: show is giving me something as a, a fan of
• 1:54:46
Speaker 1: Friday the 13th, as much as I can be in
• 1:54:48
Speaker 1: some respects, but not like a super fan. I, I've
• 1:54:51
Speaker 1: seen enough of the movies. I've watched the camp crystal
• 1:54:55
Speaker 1: Lake diaries or memories, whatever it is that Corey Feldman narrated,
• 1:54:58
Speaker 1: like five hour long documentary. I've seen it a handful
• 1:55:02
Speaker 1: of times, you know, like I'm a fan enough and
• 1:55:04
Speaker 1: I know I recognize the beats, but it's doing enough
• 1:55:07
Speaker 1: different and fun that I'm like, yeah, I'm here for it.
• 1:55:10
Speaker 1: And I, I'm excited to see where it goes. I
• 1:55:13
Speaker 1: hope it doesn't overstay its welcome. But that's kind of
• 1:55:16
Speaker 1: my hope for any TV show or movies. Like, I
• 1:55:19
Speaker 1: don't need another 15 minutes sometimes. Sometimes you're good.
• 1:55:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I've been OK with the pacing. Like, I
• 1:55:26
Speaker 2: feel like that's part of the problem with a lot
• 1:55:28
Speaker 2: of seasons of stuff. It's like sometimes they have a.
• 1:55:33
Speaker 2: it's become an ongoing battle for me is like watching
• 1:55:36
Speaker 2: movies and deciding, should this be a series or watching
• 1:55:39
Speaker 2: series and being like, would this have been a good
• 1:55:41
Speaker 2: two hour movie, but doesn't have what it needs for
• 1:55:45
Speaker 2: eight hours worth of episodes. So it's like, that's become
• 1:55:48
Speaker 2: an ongoing battle post streaming services. You know, it's like
• 1:55:52
Speaker 2: once something could have been a limited run series, now
• 1:55:56
Speaker 2: you have to decide what does the story need to be.
• 1:56:00
Speaker 2: So I think this is, really has kind of worked
• 1:56:03
Speaker 2: pretty well. I don't feel like it's just dragging it out.
• 1:56:05
Speaker 2: I've seen people that have issues with the, like, it's
• 1:56:09
Speaker 2: telling backstory that you didn't need. I'm like, well, I
• 1:56:11
Speaker 2: don't feel like it is. It's barely getting to the backstory.
• 1:56:15
Speaker 2: It's just building this, this town up and giving you
• 1:56:18
Speaker 2: more of these characters and giving you more of why
• 1:56:20
Speaker 2: they do what they do. But I don't feel like it's,
• 1:56:23
Speaker 2: it's dragging anything out. I feel like it's actually pretty
• 1:56:26
Speaker 2: well paced as far as what we've seen so far.
• 1:56:29
Speaker 1: If you came into this show with expectations and it's
• 1:56:31
Speaker 1: not meeting your expectations, that's on you. Like, you're like, oh,
• 1:56:35
  Speaker 1: I didn't, it's not the backstory I needed. Like, good
• 1:56:37
  Speaker 1: for you. I don't know. Like, I don't know what
• 1:56:39
Speaker 1: to say at this point. Like, what do you say
• 1:56:41
Speaker 1: to that? Like, uh, it's not what I wanted. All right. Yeah.
• 1:56:45
Speaker 2: It's probably, it's probably not like, Normally they're complaining because
• 1:56:49
Speaker 2: it's not like the thing before, but I'm like, I
• 1:56:51
Speaker 2: can say, well, you can go watch the movie, but
• 1:56:53
  Speaker 2: the movie also.
• 1:56:54
Speaker 1: Doesn't have this backstory. So I don't know what to
• 1:56:56
  Speaker 1: tell you.
• 1:56:57
Speaker 2: You're not going to get it anywhere else. Write your
• 1:56:59
Speaker 2: own fan fiction, I guess. Yeah, exactly.
• 1:57:01
Speaker 1: Like, what do you fucking want? Like, if this isn't
• 1:57:03
Speaker 1: what you want, go write your own thing then.
• 1:57:06
  Speaker 2: I think that's the answer.
• 1:57:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the thing. Like, this doesn't have a Lord
• 1:57:10
Speaker 1: of the Rings story.
• 1:57:11
  Speaker 2: Or Harry Potter.
• 1:57:12
Speaker 1: Or all this fucking hundreds of pages of bullshit. This has, again, enough,
• 1:57:19
Speaker 1: but not so much where it falls apart under the
• 1:57:22
Speaker 1: weight of its own premise. This has so much room
• 1:57:25
Speaker 1: to do its own thing. And Linda Cardinelli and I
• 1:57:28
Speaker 1: think the rest of the cast and the people working
• 1:57:31
Speaker 1: on this show understand that and are approaching the show appropriately.
• 1:57:38
Speaker 1: She is showing up just... she's showing up in just
• 1:57:41
Speaker 1: the right direction where she's believable, sympathetic, but also, you know,
• 1:57:46
Speaker 1: like you don't want to fucking piss her off and
• 1:57:47
Speaker 1: she'll fucking kill you. If you do like believable, it works.
• 1:57:51
  Speaker 1: And I, I didn't have on my 2026 bingo card
• 1:57:56
Speaker 1: that one of the best things I would have watched
• 1:57:58
Speaker 1: would have been Linda Cardinale as Pamela Voorhees. But yet
• 1:58:01
Speaker 1: here I am. And yes, it is a Friday, the
• 1:58:04
Speaker 1: 13th thing, but it being Friday, the 13th is honestly
• 1:58:08
Speaker 1: just a, an, inroad for a lot of people that
• 1:58:11
Speaker 1: wouldn't watch it otherwise.
• 1:58:14
Speaker 2: Well again it feels almost another everything ties to all
• 1:58:18
Speaker 2: the other things out there it feels almost very Castle
• 1:58:20
Speaker 2: Rock because it's taking a story in a small town
• 1:58:24
Speaker 2: of a kind of thing that you think you're familiar
• 1:58:26
Speaker 2: with and just sort of doing its own thing with
• 1:58:29
Speaker 2: it And I'm like, yeah, this seems like that town
• 1:58:32
Speaker 2: isn't too far away from everything horrible that goes on
• 1:58:35
Speaker 2: in Stephen King world. So it's also kind of along
• 1:58:39
Speaker 2: that line. And you know what?
• 1:58:42
Speaker 1: I'm, you know, if they want to do a nightmare
• 1:58:44
Speaker 1: on home street show like this, cool. I'm here for it. Like, I,
• 1:58:48
  Speaker 1: I don't, I don't know if, if like you said,
• 1:58:51
Speaker 1: if movies and TV shows, like, I don't know what
• 1:58:54
Speaker 1: justifies something being a movie or something being a TV
• 1:58:56
Speaker 1: show anymore. I think by watching those things, it's how
• 1:59:01
Speaker 1: we understand what it needs to be. Like, I think
• 1:59:04
Speaker 1: it's up to the creators to make that decision and
• 1:59:06
Speaker 1: then see if they can actually nail it. And sometimes
• 1:59:10
Speaker 1: I've seen something it's like, Oh yeah, this is like, yeah,
• 1:59:12
Speaker 1: obviously movie. Perfect. Sometimes I watch it and like, this
• 1:59:15
Speaker 1: should have been a TV show. Like, and, and it's not.
• 1:59:19
Speaker 1: And because it's not, I think we're missing out on,
• 1:59:22
Speaker 1: on something. And that's, you know, I don't know if
• 1:59:26
Speaker 1: I ever need another Friday, the 13th movie. If this
• 1:59:29
Speaker 1: is what you're going to do with the property, because
• 1:59:31
Speaker 1: this is much more interesting. And if you want to
• 1:59:34
Speaker 1: do Friday, the 13th movie, maybe give the people what
• 1:59:36
Speaker 1: they want and make it a big, dumb slasher and
• 1:59:40
Speaker 1: make it, you know, terrifier adjacent with some fun mythology,
• 1:59:43
Speaker 1: but let it do its own thing too. You don't
• 1:59:47
Speaker 1: have to tie into each other. Like let this be
• 1:59:49
Speaker 1: whatever the hell it wants to be. It's clearly wanting
• 1:59:51
Speaker 1: to be its own thing. Anyways. Good.
• 1:59:54
Speaker 2: It works for me.
• 1:59:57
Speaker 1: So on the next episode of Culture Meltdown, we'll be
• 2:00:00
Speaker 1: taking a look at the third and fourth episodes of
• 2:00:03
Speaker 1: the first season and possibly only season of Crystal Lake.
• 2:00:07
Speaker 1: So until then, Brian, where can people find you and
• 2:00:10
Speaker 1: the things that you work on?
• 2:00:12
Speaker 2: Well, there's this new fancy website I feel like you
• 2:00:16
Speaker 2: should check out is what I'm thinking. Where do they
• 2:00:19
Speaker 2: need to go to find this website?
• 2:00:22
Speaker 1: Weirdingwaymedia.com. That's where. Mike White, our kind of cornerstone of
• 2:00:28
Speaker 1: the network. He is the host of The Projection Booth.
• 2:00:31
Speaker 1: He has spent the last couple weeks working on a
• 2:00:33
Speaker 1: website and it looks fantastic.
• 2:00:35
Speaker 2: Head on over there.
• 2:00:36
Speaker 1: We no longer are beholden to Spreaker and the amount
• 2:00:39
Speaker 1: of money that they take from us that we never see.
• 2:00:42
Speaker 1: We're no longer beholden to them other than they give
• 2:00:45
Speaker 1: us hosting spots. And that's it. But we no longer
• 2:00:48
Speaker 1: have to have you go to their website to listen
• 2:00:50
Speaker 1: to our show. You can come to our website and
• 2:00:52
Speaker 1: listen to our show right there and engage with us directly.
• 2:00:57
Speaker 1: And like Brian said, weirdingwaymedia.com is where you can go
• 2:00:59
Speaker 1: to hear everything that we work on. Brian's show, Movie Meltdown,
• 2:01:03
Speaker 1: my show, The Culture Cast, this show, Culture Meltdown, The
• 2:01:06
Speaker 1: Projection Booth, and so much more. So head on over
• 2:01:09
Speaker 1: there to weirdingwaymedia.com, like, rate, and review any show that
• 2:01:12
Speaker 1: you listen to on iTunes, then Spotify, in that order.
• 2:01:17
Speaker 1: And yeah, you know, come on back for the next
• 2:01:19
Speaker 1: episode where we're talking about the third and fourth episodes
• 2:01:22
Speaker 1: of Peacock TV slash A24' s Crystal Lake.
