- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith. I am going to
- 0:02Be your host today, and we are going to continue
- 0:04In this series of our fruit of the Spirit. And
- 0:08As we are walking through the fruits of the spirit,
- 0:10I hope you guys have tuned in to the last couple
- 0:12of episodes that we've done. And so this is the
- 0:16episode where we're going to be talking about
- 0:18The fruit that we really just kind of try to
- 0:20avoid patience. And so trusting God and timing
- 0:24whenever you're tired of waiting. Hey friends,
- 0:27Welcome back to Fostering Faith, and today we're
- 0:28going to be diving into the hardest fruit of
- 0:31the spirit to actually live it out, and that's
- 0:35patience. In Galatians 5, 22 -23 lists patience is listed
- 0:40right after, right in the middle of love, joy,
- 0:44peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
- 0:48and self-control. But let's be honest, it's
- 0:51the one we usually skip over in our prayers.
- 0:54We want peace. We want joy, we want love, but
- 0:58patience? That's the one that requires waiting.
- 1:02room. And none of us likes to sit there. And so
- 1:05In today's episode, called Patience, Trusting
- 1:08God's Timing When You're Tired of Waiting, we're
- 1:13going to be talking about what biblical patient
- 1:16Really means and why God lets us wait. What's
- 1:19happening in the unseen? When nothing seems to
- 1:22be moving, and how can we grow through this process
- 1:25without losing heart or a sense of humor? So
- 1:29Grab your coffee, maybe grab your Bible, and let's
- 1:32get into it. And so what the patient really is. And
- 1:38So when scripture says the fruit of the spirit
- 1:40is patience, the Greek word there, it literally
- 1:43means long-tempered, the opposite of being short-tempered
- 1:46tempered. It's a passive or lazy waiting. It's
- 1:50The act of endurance of faith. It's staying steady.
- 1:54When everything in you wants to fix it, rush
- 1:59it or throw it away. We have James 1, 2 through
- 2:034 says it, Consider it for your joy, my brothers
- 2:05and sisters, whenever you face trials of many
- 2:08kinds, because you know that testing your faith
- 2:10produces perseverance and let perseverance finish
- 2:13It works so that you may mature and complete,
- 2:17not lacking in anything. Notice that. Let perseverance
- 2:22finish its work. Patience is not something that.
- 2:27gives faith time to mature. It's what turns belief.
- 2:31into trust and trust into steadfastness. In the
- 2:36world that we live in of same-day deliveries,
- 2:39instant answers, and fast-forward buttons, God
- 2:44It is more than that. God is more like a slow cooker.
- 2:49He's not an Instapot. And we've said that several.
- 2:51times on this podcast. He's not late. He's methodical.
- 2:56In his timing, he's not just preparing for what's
- 2:59ahead. He's preparing you for it. And so why
- 3:04God lets us wait? Romans 825 says, if we hope.
- 3:07for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it
- 3:11with patience. Why does God make us wait? Because
- 3:16Waiting is faith in motion. It's where the spiritual
- 3:21muscle is built. Waiting exposes what we actually.
- 3:25believe about God, not what we say we believe,
- 3:28But what we functionally live out when nothing
- 3:32is happening. When you're in the silent season,
- 3:39When the door hasn't opened, the answer hasn't
- 3:41Come, and the healing hasn't shown up, God isn't
- 3:46punishing you. He's perfecting something in you.
- 3:50That can't be developed any other way. Patience
- 3:55forces down dependence. It strips away pride.
- 3:59It turns out I can do this on my own, into Lord,
- 4:04I can't take another step unless you lead. And
- 4:09In that dependence, that's depth. God Delays
- 4:14are often driven by divine development, Psalm
- 4:1827:14 says wait on the Lord and be strong and
- 4:21Let your heart take courage wait for the Lord
- 4:24Notice that be strong and wait Live in the same
- 4:29verse waiting is not weakness. It's spiritual
- 4:33strength under control and so that is That was
- 4:40our That was our word of the year. Whenever I
- 4:43coached last year was meekness. And so that is
- 4:45not weakness. It is strength under control. And
- 4:50so faith lessons from the Bible. And so we were
- 4:56in class today and we were talking about Hebrews
- 4:5912 and how that's kind of the hall of fame faith.
- 5:05And so think about Abraham. Um, God promised
- 5:08him descendants as numerous as the stars, and
- 5:11yet he waited 25 years for Isaac. In the same
- 5:14time, Abraham's faith was tested, not destroyed,
- 5:17but refined. God didn't change his promise. He
- 5:21changed Abraham through the process. Joseph dreamed
- 5:25as a teenager that he would be raised to leadership.
- 5:28But before the dream was fulfilled, he was betrayed,
- 5:33sold, falsely accused. and imprisoned and here's
- 5:38the thing none of those seasons were wasted every
- 5:42pit and prison taught him something that the
- 5:45palace would require of him later and job lost
- 5:49everything family health wealth and yet he said
- 5:55though he may slay me yet will i hope in him
- 6:01that's patience on a soul level Not, I like what's
- 6:08happening, but I trust who's in control of it.
- 6:13And even Jesus modeled patience, 30 years of
- 6:16preparation for three years of ministry. He could
- 6:20have started at 12 whenever he was already teaching
- 6:23in the temples, but he waited until his father
- 6:28said it was time. Patient isn't weakness, it's
- 6:32obedience. what patient produces in us. So James
- 6:38says patience makes us mature and complete, not
- 6:42lacking anything. Why? Because patient builds
- 6:46perspective. It reminds you that you are not
- 6:50God. And so let me repeat that. You are not God.
- 6:56We are not God. I am not got God. And that's
- 7:00actually good news. Patience also builds compassion.
- 7:04And whenever you've had to wait for your breakthrough,
- 7:09you extend more grace to others who have been
- 7:11waiting for theirs. You stop comparing timelines
- 7:16because you realize that God's doesn't run on
- 7:20comparison. Ecclesiastes 3 11 says, he has made
- 7:24everything beautiful in its time. Not your time.
- 7:30It's time. The time that God has appointed. for
- 7:34it. You can't rush it. He's still refining it.
- 7:41And here's a quiet miracle that happens in the
- 7:45waiting. Your prayers shift from, God, hurry
- 7:48up, to God, help me stay faithful. And that's
- 7:55the fruit of patience. Not just waiting, but
- 7:59wanting and waiting well. the temptations to
- 8:06quit early. We've all had them. We all want to
- 8:09quit something that is not doing what we want.
- 8:12And so let's talk about the danger zone. The
- 8:14moment when you're about to give up, that's when
- 8:17the enemy whispers, this is never going to happen.
- 8:23God forgot about you. You're not worthy of this.
- 8:27Who are you? The Hebrew 612 says, through faith
- 8:31and patience, we inherit the promises. Not just
- 8:35through faith, through faith and patience. Patience
- 8:38is what keeps the door of faith open long enough
- 8:42for the promise to walk through. And when we
- 8:46quit too early, we forfeit what God was about
- 8:50to finish. We step out of the oven just before
- 8:55the bread rises. I'm not condoning that. And
- 8:59what's, why? Are we having in the season of waiting?
- 9:04Why does it matter? Because the moment that you're
- 9:07ready to quit might be the exact moment God is
- 9:11about to reveal why you had to wait in the first
- 9:13place. So don't let your emotions make permanent
- 9:17decisions in a temporary season. Let me repeat
- 9:22that. Don't let your emotions make permanent
- 9:27decisions in a temporary season. And that message
- 9:32will preach itself. Your emotions can make permanent
- 9:36decisions. Your emotions whenever you're mad.
- 9:39Your emotions whenever you're happy. Whenever
- 9:41you are feeling some type of way and you make
- 9:44a decision that has permanent markers on your
- 9:50life. And you were just in a temporary season.
- 9:54Seasons, reasons, and lifetimes. And so how to
- 9:58wait well, how do I do this? How do I wait well?
- 10:02Because we don't wait for anything. We want instant
- 10:06macaroni and cheese. We want instant this. We
- 10:08want delivery the same day. We want all the things.
- 10:11And we don't have to wait for anything. And so
- 10:13it's just like a muscle. You have to wait. It
- 10:15has to be built up in you. And he knows, he knows
- 10:19that we are not patient people and he wants us
- 10:22to wait. It's his timing. It's his will. And
- 10:25we... are changed by prayer. And so waiting well
- 10:31isn't passive. It's purposeful. And so how do
- 10:36we live it out? One, stay in the Word. When you
- 10:41can't hear God, read what He's already said.
- 10:45His promises are still active. They're still
- 10:49the same. Whenever you can't hear God, look to
- 10:54see what's in your ears. What are you listening
- 10:56to? Who are you around? Are you in his word?
- 11:00You have to stay connected to the vine. Two.
- 11:04Keep showing up. Be faithful in the small things.
- 11:09Obedience in the ordinary often unlocks extraordinary.
- 11:13He wants you to keep showing up for that job
- 11:15on time. You keep praying for promotion. He's
- 11:18like, but you can't even show up for this job
- 11:19on time. You keep praying for an increase. You
- 11:23can't tithe what you don't. But you're not even
- 11:26what you have now. Keep showing up. Keep showing
- 11:30up. Keep being faithful in the small times. He
- 11:33sees what goes on behind closed doors. He sees
- 11:35your tears. He hears your prayers. He hears it.
- 11:38Keep showing up. Three, worship while you wait.
- 11:47Versus like in Snow White, I think it is. It
- 11:50says whistle while you work. And so whistle while
- 11:53you work, while you're working on a better self,
- 11:55while you're working on whatever he has you working
- 11:58on. Worship while you wait. Praise changes your
- 12:02perspective. It moves your focus from what's
- 12:05missing to who's present. And so we don't worship
- 12:10our feelings. We don't worship with our emotions.
- 12:13We shouldn't. Because this song isn't hitting.
- 12:16I don't like this person that's singing. No,
- 12:18we worship. the God that gave us breath in our
- 12:21lungs. We worship because it changes how whatever
- 12:27your hands are lifted and you were singing to
- 12:30the guy that gave us the sun and the moon and
- 12:32the stars and he gave us an opportunity for today.
- 12:35It changes the atmosphere. Four. Guard your heart.
- 12:46Guard your heart. Don't let bitterness and resentment
- 12:50change you. And so allowing people to be in your
- 12:54life, allowing people to letting bitterness take
- 13:01root, don't let bitterness take root. Bitterness
- 13:03delays what patience is trying to grow. Five,
- 13:10encourage others. When you help someone else
- 13:13hold on, you strengthen your own grip too. And
- 13:18so while you're encouraging somebody else, you're
- 13:20often just like pulling all the strings because
- 13:22you'll do more for people than you'll do for
- 13:25yourself. And so you're just reading all the
- 13:27scriptures and you're doing this and you're doing
- 13:28that to help a friend. And hopefully you're listening
- 13:31to yourself because you're probably giving them
- 13:33advice that you need to hear yourself. And he
- 13:36often puts people in front of you that it's kind
- 13:40of a reflection of what you're going through
- 13:42and so you can see it literally right in front
- 13:45of you. So, patient isn't sitting still. It's
- 13:49standing firm. And so, what happens whenever
- 13:51you finally see it? When God finally fulfills
- 13:53the promise, you've realized something profound.
- 13:59The waiting wasn't wasted. Abraham looked at
- 14:02Isaac and realized God's faithfulness was worth
- 14:05every tear. Joseph stood before his brothers
- 14:08and said, what you meant for evil, God meant
- 14:12for good. Job? got double of what he lost. And
- 14:17Jesus, after waiting through the death itself,
- 14:22rose again in victory. Every waiting room in
- 14:26scripture ended in revelation. And yours will
- 14:31too, if you allow it to. If you don't walk off.
- 14:34If you don't get mad and just say, I'm done with
- 14:36this. It's not in my time. It's not in my way.
- 14:38I just give up. It's not happening too quick.
- 14:41And you walk off. Romans 8 28 reminds us, and
- 14:45we know that in all things God works for the
- 14:49good to those who love him and who are called
- 14:52according to his purpose, even in the waiting.
- 14:57And so here's your challenge this week. Stop
- 14:59asking, how long Lord? And start asking, what
- 15:03are you trying to teach me while I wait? Patience
- 15:08isn't just about surviving the delay. It's about
- 15:11surrendering your timeline. Because whenever
- 15:14you trust in His timing, you discover that His
- 15:17delay is never denial. It's divine design. And
- 15:24it's not about preparing what's coming. He's
- 15:28preparing it for you. And when it finally arrives,
- 15:33you'll see why it had to take this long. And
- 15:37we talked about it before. And so like, to be
- 15:39an elephant. It's like you're pregnant for like
- 15:42two years because you're birthing something so
- 15:45great. You're birthing this huge massive, you
- 15:48know, animal versus like rabbits or like cats
- 15:51are like pregnant for like two days or something.
- 15:53I mean, it's like ridiculous. And so would you
- 15:56rather be pregnant with an elephant or with a
- 15:59dog or a cat? I mean, and so look at the dream.
- 16:02And so you've prayed big prayers. You've prayed
- 16:04big things. And so it Takes a while to build
- 16:11you to make sure that you have the character
- 16:13To make sure that you have the endurance to run
- 16:15the race ahead and he has to he has to fine -tune
- 16:18things He has to change you has to mold you And
- 16:22so So just breathe Stay faithful Don't rush what
- 16:29God is refining because patience isn't a punishment
- 16:33It's preparation and so we would love to pray
- 16:37for you guys Father, thank you so much for today.
- 16:40Thank you so much for yesterday. Thank you for
- 16:44being patient with us when we're not patient
- 16:46with you. Teach us to trust your timing even
- 16:50when we don't understand. Give us endurance from
- 16:53whenever we want to quit and peace whenever we
- 16:56want to panic and faith when we can't see the
- 16:59finish line. Help us wait well with hope and
- 17:04humility and with confidence that you're still
- 17:07working. And we pray this in your name. Amen.
- 17:11Amen. Amen. And so we wish you guys the best
- 17:15week. We love you guys. Stay tuned for next week
- 17:18as we continue this series, as we walk through
- 17:20the fruits of the spirit. Stay warm. It is so
- 17:24chilly outside here. We hope you guys have an
- 17:27amazing week. Bye.
