- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Now, in today's episode, I am celebrating one year as a podcaster and one year on the show, and I'm going to share the three things that I've learned in my first year of podcasting.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And so if you are thinking about starting a podcast, then this could be relevant to you.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: But I can't believe I am a year into this, it's been 12 months, and it has flown by.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Luckily, I've got such a good friend in Kate, and we had a really good open chat about it, and we decided that it was right for me to pursue this idea as opposed to what we'd originally planned.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And I'm so grateful because it was a risk, and the last thing I would have wanted to have done was risk my friendship because Kate means the absolute world to me.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: But Kate and I we often sit in a space where we are talking about all things spiritual and we talk about the universe and manifestation and all of that good stuff, and she just got it.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: She's that amazing, she just got it, and she just turned around to me and said that it it was the right thing to do because of what I was experiencing.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: So, in the end, it all worked out really well, but it's it's an interesting one because, like I say, this didn't nearly nearly happen, and I am so grateful and thankful it has because I've been able to share the things that are really interesting to me that I feel really passionate about, and I really hope that through all my episodes, whether you are at a stage of creating an online course or you're thinking about it, or maybe it's not even something you're thinking about, but you're interested in online marketing or self-development.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: I hope that the one thing that has come through is the passion that I feel for what I do and for this podcast because I wanted to use this podcast as a way to really support it and help people.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: It's so interesting looking back 12 months because I didn't really know what I was doing.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: I don't think when we start anything new, we really have a handle on it.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I think it's a case of okay, I think I know what I'm doing, but I'm just gonna take a deep breath, I'm gonna step into the unknown and I'm going to give it my best.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: I'm going to give it everything I've got, and I'll figure it out along the way.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: And I know that's exactly how I felt at the very beginning.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And I am a perfectionist, I'm a creative, and I and I'm into detail, and I love to get everything just so.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: And it was very messy, it was very messy at the beginning.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: I didn't have a big plan.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: I I created some episodes, I had my concept, I knew what I wanted to talk about, but it's not like I had 10 episodes in the can with another 10 to go.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: That I didn't approach it like that.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: I just thought I would just put one foot in front of the other and I will just go with it.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: And I'm so pleased that I did because I have learned so much along the way, not just about how to podcast, but also about myself as well, and the things that I feel really passionate about.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: And as I'm creating each of my episodes, I'm choosing these topics because they they're so important to me and what I want to share, and so that's why I really love podcasting because I get to share with you the things that I know, the things that I've learned, my experiences, my thoughts about things that I wouldn't necessarily share outside of this podcast.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: So I've really enjoyed how this journey has unraveled and the things that I've learned along the way.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Now, today's episode, I want to share three things that I have learned as a podcaster, and I think these three things actually, it doesn't matter what you do, whether you started a podcast, whether you've started a YouTube channel, or even if you've started a business, I don't think it really matters.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I think these three things, these three core ingredients, are necessary regardless.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: But what I have found is that they are really needed in podcasting, and so as I said at the beginning, if you are thinking about creating a podcast, then this is just something to take on board.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, so the first thing that I have learnt, and I kind of knew this, but I didn't know the extent of it, and that is the level of commitment that is needed.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: When I set the precedence at the beginning, and I said every episode that I create is going to be delivered on a Wednesday, I have to deliver on a Wednesday, which means that I have to start that process days earlier, and there is a real commitment needed in order to get that done.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: But as I've got more and more into this, that commitment is so important.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: I knew at the beginning that in order for me to do this and to do this well, there needed to be that commitment.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: I couldn't say or announce that episodes were going to drop every Wednesday and then start uploading them on a Thursday and Friday because I see from my stats that I have people listen straight away.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: And also it's about having a commitment to myself as well.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: I've set this the precedence, I've made this decision to do this, and so I owe it to myself to have that commitment and to take what I'm doing seriously so that it works.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Now it doesn't matter whether you are hosting a podcast or you're running your business, there is a level of commitment that is needed, regardless, I think, in anything that we do.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: But the one thing that can be really challenging when you're busy juggling so many things is committing to doing one thing.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Wherever you want to share your voice, be it on YouTube, on podcasting, even in your business, having that commitment is what's going to drive results.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: If we don't show up and we're not committed, then we won't get the results we want.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: And so we always have to be mindful of why we're doing this in the first place and what we want it to lead to.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And I think just keeping connected to our goals is what helps to drive that commitment.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, so the second thing that I've learned is consistency is everything.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Now, consistency is important in podcasting because it's what helps to build trust with my audience.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: So it's really important that if I say I'm gonna show up and deliver an episode on a Wednesday, then I follow through on that because by consistently delivering new episodes on a regular basis, I'm showing my listeners that I am committed to my podcast and that they can rely on me to access valuable content, and being consistent also helps me to grow my listenership.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: So, you guys are more likely going to recommend me if you know that I'm consistently delivering episodes.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: That is heavily on my mind.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: The fact that I've said that I'm going to do something, I've got to be consistent with it because it's going to build that no like and trust.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Now I see how important this is in the metrics.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: I can see that each episode is growing, so it's really important that I'm consistent with delivering these episodes to support that growth.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: So, of course, today I am talking about being consistent with podcasting, and as I mentioned, this is obviously really important for growth.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Doesn't necessarily matter whether it's podcasting, creating videos for YouTube, or creating pins on Pinterest, or delivering content on other social media platforms, consistency is the key to growing your audience, and I think that's one of the things that I've realized during the this past year, because beforehand I was never really fully consistent.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: I would go through spurts of creating content, putting out on social, and then I'd get busy, and then before I know it, I've had a couple of weeks and I've hardly posted anything.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: And of course, that is reflected in the metrics because if you're not consistent, then you don't get that growth.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: So, what I have seen is by being consistent with podcasting, my numbers are growing and they're growing on a regular basis because I'm showing up, I'm being consistent, and I'm delivering.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: And so, as I said, it doesn't matter.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: I'm today talking about podcasting, but I just want to talk about creating content and being on social media in general, consistency is absolutely the key.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: So if you are like how I was, I could do better on my social channels, but I have the podcast episode, so that really does help me in terms of creating content online.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: But if you are equally somebody that struggles to be consistent, then I encourage you to find develop a system to support yourself with that consistency because that'll be the thing that will help you to grow your audience and get you in front of more people.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: So, consistency I think is everything.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Now, I'm not saying it's easy, I find it one of the most challenging things because I do get caught up in other things as well, and I'm not always ready to start thinking about the next episode when I need to.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: But having said that, it's all about the metrics, and when you see the metrics grow because of your efforts, that's enough to keep that motivation going.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: I would probably say that out of the three things that I'm sharing today, consistency is probably the most important because that's where the growth happens, and that's where you're going to actually get the results.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: And I know for me with this podcast, when I have a look at my numbers, that tells me that what I'm doing is obviously landing with the people that I wanted to land with.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Because here's the thing: this podcast isn't for everybody.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: I've created this podcast for creatives, consultants, coaches that want to really scale and create a profitable business that supports you and the life that you want.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: But it all starts with a mindset, and not everyone has the right mindset to be able to create online courses, digital products, all of that good stuff in the right way.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: I'm not looking for everybody to listen to this podcast, it's more important that the right people listen to it so that I can help them to grow and move their business forward.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: So the third thing that I've learned is how important creativity is in podcasting because it's what helps to differentiate this podcast from so many others, and it's what helps me to create episodes that are engaging and which land with my listeners by covering different topics and approaching them in slightly different ways, it keeps the things that I'm talking about interesting.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: In this podcast, I talk a lot about online courses, and I try and approach it in a way that is going to be interesting to you guys so that you get to learn what you need to learn, but I'm not sharing lots of stats and figures.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: It's it's delivered in a way that I hope makes sense, but there is a creative element that needs to be injected into each episode to make it engaging, and I think that's one of the things that I've learned is how important it is to think of each episode to plan it out so that you have a really good idea about what you want to say and then deliver on it in a in an engaging way that's going to land with your listeners.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: As soon as I decided to create this podcast, I knew that I wanted it to be predominantly a solo show because of the things that I wanted to share and talk about.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: But I enjoy bringing guests on board because I enjoy being able to share other people's stories, and I feel like that offers another way in which you guys can learn from people that may just be a few steps ahead of you, but it puts context around the things that I'm talking about so that it all makes sense.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: And I've had some wonderful guests on this show that have really been generous in the way they've shared their own stories and shared things that are important to them as well.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Having that creativity is fundamental, it also helps me to stay motivated and passionate about this podcast because I get to deliver it in a way that makes sense to me.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: I guess at the beginning, I didn't really think about what was going to be required, I just knew that I wanted to do this, but creativity is so important.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Again, I'm today I'm talking about this podcast, but it's so important in your business, in developing products and solutions for your clients, creativity in the way you deliver your message online.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: It's so key in everything we do, it's how we take something and we make it engaging so that it lands for the people that it's meant to land with.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Often, when I talk about creativity, people think it's all about creating pretty visuals and making things look really nice on screen and product images and things like that.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: But actually, being creative in the way you deliver something, or the way you write your copy, or the way you share your messaging is really important because that's going to be what connects your audience to you and what you're wanting to share with them.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: And and as I said, you know, delivering this podcast over the past year, creativity has sat at the very heart of everything that I've done, and it's what's helped me to deliver each of these episodes.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: So there you have it.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Three things that I've learned over the past 12 months that have been fundamental in delivering this podcast.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: I've got the commitment, the consistency, and the creative.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: So it's all about the three C's.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: And so if you are thinking about creating a podcast for your business, because maybe you're like me and you want to share your message and talk about the things that are important to you, then the best advice I could give is to do it because this past year it's been a really interesting journey, and it's really made me have to step out of my own comfort zone into the unknown.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: But I think with that, it has brought many rewards.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: And if you are looking to grow your audience, then this is a great way to do that.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to today's episode.
