Speaker 3: morning from the Parmar Store studio. If there's not a
1:14
Speaker 3: Parmar store near you now, there will be soon. We
1:17
Speaker 3: are loaded up this morning. I am trying that. We
1:20
Speaker 3: had a little technical difficulty getting on here, but I
1:23
Speaker 3: think we're gonna check in with Rob Reel momentarily. I
1:26
Speaker 3: gotta do something. It's a work in progress, man, it's
1:29
Speaker 3: live radio, so all right, so we should have Rob
1:32
Speaker 3: Reel coming up here momentarily. Our man, Rob Reel, of course,
1:35
Speaker 3: is out on the trail this morning, walking continuing to
1:39
Speaker 3: walk that big old check from Charleston our studios here
1:42
Speaker 3: to eleven eleven all the way to Morgan Town. He
1:44
Speaker 3: made it to Clinton Dennon yesterday. And Matt Guitar Murphy
1:49
Speaker 3: is our producer today. So I think I just sent
1:51
Speaker 3: the information to Rob, and I think we have Rob.
1:55
Speaker 3: So Rob, if you're there, let's Matt, let's go directly
1:57
Speaker 3: to Rob Reel, who is on the trail this morning.
2:00
Speaker 3: Are you there, my friend?
2:03
Speaker 6: I'm as there as I can be. It was, man,
2:07
Speaker 6: it was a long twenty one miles yesterday. It was
2:12
Speaker 6: rough about mile ten or eleven. My feet started to
2:16
Speaker 6: hate me about mile fifteen. My cavs started to hate me.
2:19
Speaker 6: About mile nineteen, my back started to hate me, So
2:22
Speaker 6: my body's in full rebellion at this point.
2:25
Speaker 3: So overall, though, as they say, other than that, Missus Lincoln,
2:30
Speaker 3: how was the play?
2:32
Speaker 6: Yeah, it wasn't bad. The weather turned out to be
2:35
Speaker 6: nice and warm, and everybody was almost everybody was very nice.
2:39
Speaker 6: I had like seventeen people honk and wave, and about
2:42
Speaker 6: thirteen of them used all five fingers, so that was nice.
2:46
Speaker 6: The ladies at Blanche's family Diner in Clinton and where
2:50
Speaker 6: I ended up, were flabbergasted but impressed that I had
2:54
Speaker 6: walked that far. So I had a nice dinner, and
2:56
Speaker 6: actually they got me squared away on breakfast this morning
2:59
Speaker 6: and making my way along. Now left hand is the
3:02
Speaker 6: target today?
3:04
Speaker 3: Left hand beautiful downtown and will you be in the
3:06
Speaker 3: suburbs of left hand or downtown left hand?
3:09
Speaker 6: You know it's I ran into Fred Persinger this morning.
3:12
Speaker 6: I was in the building to get my gears squared
3:14
Speaker 6: away and do some things, and Hall of Famer Fred
3:17
Speaker 6: Pursinger said, oh, so where are you headed today? And
3:19
Speaker 6: I mentioned left hand and he kind of cocked his
3:21
Speaker 6: head and like, where where is that again? And so
3:24
Speaker 6: I kind of showed him on the map real quick.
3:25
Speaker 6: And yeah, it's one of those towns where it says
3:28
Speaker 6: welcome to welcome to here on both sides of the
3:30
Speaker 6: same sign.
3:31
Speaker 3: Gotcha, I got you. I've also got Tom Bragg in
3:34
Speaker 3: with us, because Tom is going to tell us about
3:36
Speaker 3: He's gonna give a little preview of high school football.
3:37
Speaker 3: Tom before we let Rob get back. He's already on
3:40
Speaker 3: the trail. Do you have anything you want to say
3:41
Speaker 3: to Robbie? And you want to say anything, Tom, I
3:43
Speaker 3: can't believe we stumped Fred Persinger with the West Virginia town.
3:46
Speaker 3: I would have never guessed that. I thought he knew him.
3:47
Speaker 3: All well. He was here at the formation of the state,
3:50
Speaker 3: so he probably should know that, all right.
3:53
Speaker 6: I think it was pre coffee for Fred, all right.
3:55
Speaker 3: So so again, in case you're wondering what the heck
3:58
Speaker 3: are we talking about here, you said on a trail yesterday,
4:01
Speaker 3: Robbie Rob to walk from our studios at eleven eleven
4:04
Speaker 3: Virginia Streats in Charleston to go all the way to
4:08
Speaker 3: Children's Hospital in Morgantown to deliver a big old check,
4:11
Speaker 3: the ceremonial giant check in the amount of how much
4:15
Speaker 3: was it again?
4:17
Speaker 6: The check reads one hundred and seventy two and thirty
4:21
Speaker 6: four dollars. That's that's a give or take number. In fact,
4:25
Speaker 6: that number may go up by the time I get there,
4:27
Speaker 6: because folks can go to ninety six to one kwus
4:30
Speaker 6: dot com and actually become a part of this if
4:33
Speaker 6: they would like.
4:33
Speaker 3: All right now and you are going to what did
4:36
Speaker 3: you tell me about walking on the weekend? Are you
4:37
Speaker 3: also walking weekend? Are you letting your body heal up
4:39
Speaker 3: before you before you resume?
4:42
Speaker 6: The goal is to not have to walk on the weekend.
4:44
Speaker 6: That's kind of my Yeah, that's my elastic clause. If
4:47
Speaker 6: I don't make my goal for a particular day, I'll
4:50
Speaker 6: make up some miles on the weekend. But so far,
4:53
Speaker 6: so good. I could. I should be sleeping well tomorrow and.
4:56
Speaker 3: You're gonna walk all the way and your goal to
4:58
Speaker 3: get there you're all away to town is on Halloween evening.
5:01
Speaker 3: That's when you should be there, right, Yes, I am.
5:04
Speaker 6: The I'm not sure if I'm the trick or the
5:07
Speaker 6: treat for the kids on Thursday, October thirty first, but
5:11
Speaker 6: that afternoon I hope to walk into their Halloween shenanigans
5:14
Speaker 6: at the Hostetler Center and be able to deliver this
5:17
Speaker 6: check and every penny of it is going to care
5:21
Speaker 6: for kids in West Virginia. That's my favorite part.
5:23
Speaker 3: All right, man, we'll let you go, let you get walking,
5:25
Speaker 3: and of course you've done You've done a great job
5:28
Speaker 3: with video and pictures over on our sister station kws's
5:31
Speaker 3: Facebook page, so check that out. Also want to give
5:34
Speaker 3: a big shout out to several members of the meetia,
5:35
Speaker 3: including the folks at wwk TV thirteen. They were here
5:38
Speaker 3: to kind of launch you off Yesterday's a big shout
5:41
Speaker 3: out to those folks. Rob, be safe out there, man.
5:43
Speaker 3: I'll check in with you again top of the show
5:45
Speaker 3: Monday morning.
5:46
Speaker 6: Yeah, as long as I'm alive, yes, sir.
5:49
Speaker 3: If not, well, we'll just get you know, some kind
5:51
Speaker 3: of chiming bells.
5:53
Speaker 6: We'll get radio with pictures to come back and do
5:55
Speaker 6: that story.
5:56
Speaker 3: All right, all right, Rob, be safe man. Thanks a lot.
6:00
Speaker 3: Is Rob Reel from his sister station ninety six to
6:01
Speaker 3: one KWS. Tom Bragg is with us. We're gonna get
6:04
Speaker 3: a little bit later on. We don't have Hannah Gardner today,
6:07
Speaker 3: Hannah's having had a few issues, but I do have
6:09
Speaker 3: our pet of the Week. I'll get to that a
6:10
Speaker 3: little bit later on. Plus, also in the show, Fred
6:12
Speaker 3: Albert from the American Federation of Teachers is going to
6:15
Speaker 3: be stopping by. But Tom Bragg is here. Tom, let's
6:17
Speaker 3: talk about Rob Reel and this lunacy to walk from
6:21
Speaker 3: Charleston to Morgantown. That's crazy, man, that's a that's a
6:24
Speaker 3: really long walk. I don't like driving from Charleston. I
6:27
Speaker 3: can't imagine signing up to LOK. It sounds like it's
6:29
Speaker 3: a really good cause of so a good reason. Well,
6:32
Speaker 3: and again he made the promise. He told our loyal
6:34
Speaker 3: listeners that if you raised X amount of dollars, and
6:37
Speaker 3: because the numbers were a little bit down, and Rob said, look,
6:39
Speaker 3: if you get this money in here, I will walk
6:42
Speaker 3: the check personally from downtown Charleston to WVU Children's Hospital
6:46
Speaker 3: in Morgantown. And he did just that, or at least
6:49
Speaker 3: he's trying to do just like, Yeah, he only had
6:52
Speaker 3: one day in but well, we'll be checking in with
6:54
Speaker 3: him every morning. So but has a very very cool project.
6:57
Speaker 3: That's off to our man, Rob for that. All right,
6:59
Speaker 3: Tom Bragg is here the voice of the Herbert Hoover
7:01
Speaker 3: Huskies because they got a big one to night man
7:05
Speaker 3: against Ripley in the land of the Vikings. Now, let
7:08
Speaker 3: me tell you the way this works. Normally we have
7:10
Speaker 3: Herbert Hoover on KWS and we have the Hurricane Redskins
7:14
Speaker 3: on CHS. Hurricanes off this week. So what we're actually
7:17
Speaker 3: going to do is we're going to have the Hoover
7:20
Speaker 3: Ripley game on both stations yesday night. We'll have it
7:22
Speaker 3: on WCCHS online and on the air, and also on
7:25
Speaker 3: ninety six to one KWS. But man, this match up here,
7:28
Speaker 3: I mean, this is something. Yeah, I think it's one
7:31
Speaker 3: of the most important games in the state, regardless of
7:34
Speaker 3: class this week, certainly in Class Triple A. It's the
7:37
Speaker 3: big one on the schedule. Herbert Hoover coming in six
7:39
Speaker 3: to h undefeated, number four in the playoff ratings this week,
7:43
Speaker 3: Ripley hanging around there, five and one the Vikings. The
7:46
Speaker 3: strength of schedule has not been great for Ripley. If
7:48
Speaker 3: there's a knock on this team, it's that, well, maybe
7:50
Speaker 3: they haven't they haven't played anybody, and when they did
7:52
Speaker 3: they got beat really bad by Nitro a couple weeks ago.
7:55
Speaker 3: But this will be a big test for them. They
7:56
Speaker 3: get Herbert Hoover at home. Hoover has not had to
7:59
Speaker 3: go on the road very much this this year, and
8:01
Speaker 3: it's and it's been tough. When they have they've come
8:03
Speaker 3: out with wins. But they had an overtime win at
8:05
Speaker 3: a very good nightro team that we just mentioned. And
8:07
Speaker 3: then a few weeks ago down almost your neck of
8:10
Speaker 3: the woods down in Logan County against Chapmanville. It was
8:12
Speaker 3: a slow start for Herbert, Whover really got things going
8:14
Speaker 3: in the second half in that game. But I don't
8:16
Speaker 3: know that they can afford to start as slow as
8:18
Speaker 3: they did against Chapmanville tonight at Ripley because Ripley's got
8:20
Speaker 3: some guys that can hurt you, and it's always difficult
8:22
Speaker 3: to play in And the do they have a name,
8:24
Speaker 3: because they're like a nickname for them, like the Viking
8:27
Speaker 3: Ship or something like. I should ask Joe Parsons that
8:30
Speaker 3: I think they do, but I'm can't. I'm I'm blanking
8:33
Speaker 3: on it there. I want to say maybe the Rock,
8:35
Speaker 3: but that seems like one that they sort of generic
8:37
Speaker 3: Ravens Wood.
8:38
Speaker 4: It might might, it might be.
8:40
Speaker 3: And I know if I get those two things, yeah,
8:41
Speaker 3: I don't want to make apologies to Jackson.
8:44
Speaker 7: They have that.
8:44
Speaker 3: They have a name for the one that Ravens would
8:46
Speaker 3: as well. But now somebody the pit, the basket, the
8:49
Speaker 3: basketball around the basketball range is the pit. That's what
8:51
Speaker 3: I was thinking of. So if any of our folks
8:53
Speaker 3: are Ripley people, if you want to tell me, because
8:55
Speaker 3: it's just escaping me. Like Tom said, it does have
8:58
Speaker 3: a nickname for where they play other than just the stadium.
9:00
Speaker 3: They call it something so Ripley people. Please text me,
9:03
Speaker 3: Please let me know exactly what it is. We get
9:05
Speaker 3: that a little bit later on that after the game tonight.
9:07
Speaker 3: Of course you can stick around for Fred and Dave
9:09
Speaker 3: with all of the scores from around the state of
9:11
Speaker 3: West Virginia. This is an exciting time for high school
9:15
Speaker 3: because I was listening to Fred this morning. He was
9:17
Speaker 3: talking about in Class Quada. You know, at this point
9:20
Speaker 3: they're just playing for seating right in Class Quade. But
9:22
Speaker 3: these other schools, they are all jockeying trying to get,
9:25
Speaker 3: you know, ready to go, and they're dealing with injuries
9:28
Speaker 3: right now because it's that time of season when you
9:30
Speaker 3: start to get some nagging injuries no matter what level
9:32
Speaker 3: of football. You're talking about. So it's it's an exciting
9:36
Speaker 3: time for high school football now, tom Oh, it's getting
9:38
Speaker 3: to be the best time of the year. The leaves
9:40
Speaker 3: are starting to change, it's getting darker earlier, and you're
9:42
Speaker 3: starting to get down to the nitty gritty in high
9:44
Speaker 3: school football. Playoffs will be here before we know it.
9:47
Speaker 3: We're in that last little stretch, and as you said,
9:50
Speaker 3: these teams are jockeying for position, trying to improve their standing.
9:54
Speaker 3: For the Quada teams, it's about positioning right now, trying
9:57
Speaker 3: to get a home game, trying to maybe avoid some
9:59
Speaker 3: of the those heavy hitters at the top of the
10:01
Speaker 3: bracket for as long as you can. But man, and
10:03
Speaker 3: in the lower classes, Class Triple A especially, there's so
10:06
Speaker 3: many good teams. You take the top four, all those
10:09
Speaker 3: teams without losses, the Bridgeport, Fairmont, Princeton, and Herbert Hoover,
10:13
Speaker 3: and then you throw in a team like Spring Valley,
10:14
Speaker 3: who's just as good as anybody, but had a crazy
10:17
Speaker 3: schedule to start the season, so they're having to claw
10:19
Speaker 3: their way back back into contention. And speaking of Spring Valley,
10:23
Speaker 3: that's when I've got my eye on tonight. Outside of
10:25
Speaker 3: that Hoover Ripley game, Spring Valley and Capital Capital really
10:28
Speaker 3: back against the wall. Every every week is a playoff
10:30
Speaker 3: scenario for the Cougars. Now, it's been a while since
10:33
Speaker 3: they've been in a position to contend. It might be
10:36
Speaker 3: another year or two, but if they can keep winning,
10:38
Speaker 3: they can be in that spot. But it'll be tough
10:40
Speaker 3: tonight with Spring Valley coming to Lateleyfield, A right a game.
10:42
Speaker 3: We're talking to Tom Bragg about this game. We'll be
10:44
Speaker 3: covering tonight on both of our on both Normally we
10:48
Speaker 3: have Hurricane on CCHS. Hurricanes off this week, so we're
10:50
Speaker 3: actually going to simulcast. We're going to have you and
10:52
Speaker 3: Matt Murphy doing the game at Ripley. And by the way,
10:55
Speaker 3: I got a text here got the best listeners of moll. Yes,
10:58
Speaker 3: Ripley is also known as death there.
11:00
Speaker 2: It is.
11:00
Speaker 3: That's death. That it is death valid, that's what they
11:03
Speaker 3: call it up. It's going to be a good one tonight,
11:05
Speaker 3: uh the Herbert Hoover Huskies and Ripley at Ripley again.
11:09
Speaker 3: It can be heard on KWUS ninety six point one
11:11
Speaker 3: online and on the air, and also we're going to
11:14
Speaker 3: sign with cast that on w c HS Tom's rock
11:16
Speaker 3: and the Marshall hat today because Marshall did pull off
11:20
Speaker 3: that victory last night against Georgia State. You know, they
11:22
Speaker 3: had a big lead and then they started to let
11:25
Speaker 3: it go and I thought, oh, are we having a
11:26
Speaker 3: repeat of what happened the previous week. But Huff was
11:29
Speaker 3: able to pull it out. And of course, the the
11:32
Speaker 3: one kid, j Turner four touchdowns, including one to steal
11:37
Speaker 3: it there at the end of the game. Should he
11:38
Speaker 3: have gone down or should he have scored? I got
11:40
Speaker 3: into a little online debate with my good friend Bill
11:44
Speaker 3: woodrum about that last night. You know, should he have
11:46
Speaker 3: scored or should he have slid? He opted to score?
11:49
Speaker 3: I say, you slide and he don't score? It didn't
11:52
Speaker 3: matter in the end, Yeah, I think ultimately obviously it
11:55
Speaker 3: didn't matter in the end. I don't know. I think
11:58
Speaker 3: right there the way things have gone for Marshall, take
12:01
Speaker 3: the points, don't put it, don't put anything in the chance.
12:03
Speaker 3: But under most circumstances, lighting's probably the smarter analytical move there.
12:09
Speaker 3: But I totally get n Of course, WU and Kansas
12:12
Speaker 3: State at home coming up in Morgantown, we find it
12:14
Speaker 3: as well. All right again time I'm asking to stick
12:16
Speaker 3: around here just from sure. Normally we have Hannah Gardner
12:19
Speaker 3: in about this time from the Kenaal Charleston Humane Association
12:21
Speaker 3: with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week.
12:24
Speaker 3: Hannah not with us this morning, had some things come up.
12:26
Speaker 3: She couldn't join us last minute. But we do have
12:29
Speaker 3: the dog. The pictures posted at Dave Allen Radio on
12:32
Speaker 3: Facebook and at Dave A seventy on The artist formerly
12:35
Speaker 3: known as Twitter, now known as X. Bonita is our
12:38
Speaker 3: dog's name. Four years old time female spade ready to
12:42
Speaker 3: go home. Understand not very cat friendly. Is eligible to
12:46
Speaker 3: be fostered. So if you just like to, you know,
12:48
Speaker 3: take the dog out for a couple of days, you
12:50
Speaker 3: can do that. Benita appears to be kid friendly. Of
12:53
Speaker 3: course they always advise caution. Sen prefers calmer dogs. Loves people,
12:59
Speaker 3: loves belly rubs. It's just like I'm describing you about
13:05
Speaker 3: fifty pounds, a super loving girl and very laid back.
13:07
Speaker 3: You saw the picture yourself when when you came to
13:09
Speaker 3: the studio. It's a good looking dog. To oh, I'm
13:11
Speaker 3: looking at it now. It's it's great looking dog. Nice
13:13
Speaker 3: little Halloween motif in the photo with the what are
13:17
Speaker 3: those purple like cat ears on a dog? But they've
13:19
Speaker 3: got sequence. They look great, Bonita, what a good looking
13:22
Speaker 3: dog and belly rubs. You you almost were describing me
13:25
Speaker 3: until you got to the fifty pounds fifty pound the
13:28
Speaker 3: fifty beer head weighs fifty pounds maybe. And also I
13:31
Speaker 3: was going to bring this up with Hannah now that
13:33
Speaker 3: we're getting into the cold. Look, we've had thirty degree
13:35
Speaker 3: temperatures the last couple of nights. Please take care of
13:38
Speaker 3: your pets, you know. And I'm not going to lecture
13:41
Speaker 3: people about taking you know, because I know people will say, well,
13:44
Speaker 3: my dog or cat loves to be outside. I'm going
13:46
Speaker 3: to leave that up to you, but I will say overall,
13:49
Speaker 3: you know, most pets don't like that it's too cold
13:51
Speaker 3: for you, it's too cold for them. Take care of
13:53
Speaker 3: your pets as we had into the winter months. Also,
13:55
Speaker 3: talking to Hannah, they are it's still in need of food.
13:59
Speaker 3: They had a host on their social media of the
14:01
Speaker 3: Human Association yesterday Tom that they had just completely run
14:04
Speaker 3: out of food. So we always say this every week.
14:07
Speaker 3: If there is a way that you want to get
14:09
Speaker 3: involved by helping the canal Charleston Humane Association. You don't
14:12
Speaker 3: necessarily have to adopt a pet. I mean that's great.
14:16
Speaker 3: You can foster. You can just make a donation, a
14:19

Speaker 3: ratty washcloths and dish towels that they probably ought to
14:24
Speaker 3: get rid of but don't want to. They love those
14:26
Speaker 3: things up there. They love sheets. If you've got some
14:28
Speaker 3: older sheets that you're thinking about trashing or whatever, don't
14:31
Speaker 3: trash them, take them up to the shelter. They could
14:33
Speaker 3: definitely use those up there. And again, if you just
14:35
Speaker 3: want to make a donation for pets, for food and
14:40
Speaker 3: for everything else they need out there, I'm sure that
14:42
Speaker 3: they would love it. Also, I want to throw this
14:44
Speaker 3: in here. They have an event and I don't have
14:47

19:42

19:44
Speaker 4: radio stage.
19:45
Speaker 3: I think what it looked like before. I don't know.
19:47
Speaker 3: It looked like an older The studio where we were
19:50
Speaker 3: in before was originally the WCCHS television studio, and of
19:54
Speaker 3: course we're not even in the same company anymore. And
19:57
Speaker 3: I was told by Colonel Ron Hughes, who who may
20:01
Speaker 3: have been here when the building was built, when the
20:02
Speaker 3: Frankenburger of Frankenberry Mansion became a thing, that they used
20:08
Speaker 3: to do TV wrestling in that studio. They had to
20:10
Speaker 3: ring and everything in there, back in the old Saturday
20:12
Speaker 3: night wrestling. That's what I was told.
20:13
Speaker 4: You still did TV wrestling in there?
20:15
Speaker 3: Didn't Oh I didn't, but I did it in other places.
20:18
Speaker 3: But that's another story. But welcome here. Glad to have
20:20
Speaker 3: you here.
20:21
Speaker 6: Thank you.
20:22
Speaker 3: I want to get to Peia issues in a moment.
20:24
Speaker 3: But last night Fred, as was expected, the canaw County
20:28
Speaker 3: Board of Education voted five to nothing to close Mary
20:30
Speaker 3: Ingles Elementary if funding is approof to build a new
20:34
Speaker 3: consolidated school in that area of the county. I'm gonna
20:36
Speaker 3: touch on the story a little bit later on. This
20:38
Speaker 3: was the second of for of these meetings for this
20:41
Speaker 3: particular area Bell now scheduled for closure meeting that happened
20:44
Speaker 3: the other night. Again, if the decision can be reached
20:47
Speaker 3: to build a new school, Decisions on Maulda and the
20:49
Speaker 3: Middland Trail coming later. They'll get back at meetings I
20:52
Speaker 3: think on Monday night. Fred, We've seen other schools closed
20:55
Speaker 3: as well, and I don't want to put you in
20:56
Speaker 3: a bad spot here because I'm certainly I'm sure you
20:58
Speaker 3: can understand how the communities hate to lose these schools,
21:01
Speaker 3: and you also, having done this for a while, you
21:03
Speaker 3: also understand the economics of the situations. I mean, it costs,
21:06
Speaker 3: quite frankly, a lot of money to keep these older
21:08
Speaker 3: schools open for lesser students, and then you factor in
21:13
Speaker 3: the cost of repairs, and I'm sure you get all that.
21:16
Speaker 3: But when you see these type things in general, I'm
21:19
Speaker 3: not going to ask you about this specific as an
21:21
Speaker 3: educator because long before aft. You were an educator and
21:25
Speaker 3: are always an educator, right, You're thought of these things.
21:28
Speaker 3: Just overall, when these communities lose their schools.
21:30
Speaker 4: It is heartbreaking.
21:31
Speaker 11: And actually this one is very personal to me because
21:34
Speaker 11: I attended Bell Elementary. Oh really, when Louise Bryant was
21:38
Speaker 11: the principal. We were then known as a model school.
21:41
Speaker 11: It's that name has now been changed to Blue Ribbon
21:44
Speaker 11: School of Excellence, but we were a model school at
21:47
Speaker 11: Bell Elementary. It's always been the heart of that community,
21:51
Speaker 11: as many elementary schools and middle schools and high schools are.
21:54
Speaker 4: So it's a sad, sad day.
21:57
Speaker 11: I don't envy the board and having to make these
22:01
Speaker 11: tough decisions, but my heart goes out to the students,
22:04
Speaker 11: the families, the communities, and the staff.
22:07
Speaker 4: But tell me what else can be done?
22:10
Speaker 11: You know, when you lose five thousand students in ten years,
22:13
Speaker 11: an average of five hundred. That's a school a year
22:16
Speaker 11: in ten years, basically five hundred students a year, you
22:21
Speaker 11: can't continue to do business the same way. Now, no
22:24
Speaker 11: one likes larger class sizes. I have been a long
22:28
Speaker 11: time advocate for smaller class sizes because we know that
22:32
Speaker 11: students really thrive in a smaller setting where they are
22:37
Speaker 11: known by everyone on staff.
22:39
Speaker 4: It's just it's heartbreaking. But what is the answer.
22:44
Speaker 11: We need more people, We need more people to move
22:47
Speaker 11: into our eastern end of the county. We need more
22:50
Speaker 11: businesses there. And it's tough.
22:55
Speaker 3: And I did not attend to hearing last night, but
22:57
Speaker 3: I did hear some of the audio. Aaron Parker has
22:59
Speaker 3: the it's actually it's a lead story this morning wv
23:01
Speaker 3: Metro News dot com and Aaron Parker was there and
23:04
Speaker 3: I heard some of the audio that was played back
23:06
Speaker 3: because I was driving in this morning. Fred, and you
23:08
Speaker 3: really feel, you know, for those people in the community,
23:11
Speaker 3: because especially in that area, and that's your area, I
23:13
Speaker 3: mean that area of the county. They have suffered so much.
23:16
Speaker 3: As one of the ladies that was speaking said that,
23:18
Speaker 3: and I don't know if it's a school employee or what.
23:20
Speaker 3: I didn't catch that, but but said that, you know,
23:22
Speaker 3: the area suffered so much. Now and when you when
23:24
Speaker 3: you close an elementary school, and I've said this time
23:27
Speaker 3: and time again and again. I get Fred the economic
23:30
Speaker 3: aspect of it, but it's when I was a kid,
23:33
Speaker 3: that's where everything happened. That's where the Scouts met you know,
23:36
Speaker 3: that's where you had the fall festivals. If you had
23:38
Speaker 3: a meeting about a water project or whatever, everything was held.
23:43
Speaker 3: Because we don't have civic centers in small towns. You know,
23:46
Speaker 3: everything generally speaking, was held at that elementary school. It
23:49
Speaker 3: was it was the center of the especially smaller communities
23:53
Speaker 3: like that, and it is heartbreaking, but you understand why
23:56
Speaker 3: it has to happen.
23:57
Speaker 11: I do understand why it has to happen. But but
24:00
Speaker 11: there again, that does not negate the emotional attachment that
24:06
Speaker 11: families have. And the lady who I heard speaking was
24:09
Speaker 11: missus Odell. She's a media specialist there at mary Ingles
24:15
Speaker 11: currently and I had both of her children, well, I
24:18
Speaker 11: had one of her. I had her child in school
24:22
Speaker 11: when I taught at DuPont. I also taught at Midway Elementary,
24:26
Speaker 11: which closed and merged consolidated into mary Ingles, and now
24:31
Speaker 11: mary Ingles.
24:31
Speaker 4: Is slated to close.
24:34
Speaker 11: It's a tough, tough situation for everyone. But again, you know,
24:38
Speaker 11: what are you going to do when the numbers are
24:41
Speaker 11: just against you and you can't continue to do business
24:46
Speaker 11: as you've done in the past with shrinking population.

25:19
Speaker 3: All right, let's get to Pea Fred. It seems to
25:22
Speaker 3: me that no matter who is in power in Charleston,
25:24
Speaker 3: Republicans or Democrats, or who sits in the governor's office
25:27
Speaker 3: or whatever, we always seem to have an issue with PEIA.
25:30
Speaker 11: It has been a long time issue as far back
25:35
Speaker 11: as I can remember, and you know, we have been
25:38
Speaker 11: to the public hearings many, many, many times every year
25:42
Speaker 11: around November, the first or second week in November, they
25:45
Speaker 11: start the public hearings before the PEIA Finance Board. And
25:51
Speaker 11: I can remember when we would pike the little theater
25:53
Speaker 11: at the Charleston then the Charleston Civic Center now the
25:57
Speaker 11: Charleston Coliseum. But yes, it has been a longtime problem.
26:03
Speaker 11: If you remember in twenty eighteen, there was a pei
26:07
Speaker 11: A task force created in the spring of twenty eighteen,
26:13
Speaker 11: and the hope was that that task force, they did
26:16
Speaker 11: travel around the state, they held public hearings, they listened
26:20
Speaker 11: to PEIA participants. And these aren't just teachers and service personnel.
26:26
Speaker 11: These are public employees who have participation in pi and
26:30
Speaker 11: it's anybody that's a state employee. Anyone has a state
26:33
Speaker 11: employee can be a participant in PEIA. But so they listened,
26:38
Speaker 11: they took copious notes, and the task force met some
26:43
Speaker 11: but what happened where did it go? And our hope
26:46
Speaker 11: was that the task force would be able to come
26:49
Speaker 11: up with a permanent solution. That's been the longtime hope
26:53
Speaker 11: because if we don't do something these increases, our members
26:59
Speaker 11: are dissipants in pei A who worked for the state
27:03
Speaker 11: and they're dedicated workers, you know, and you've heard this
27:06
Speaker 11: story before. For many years, they were given a great
27:10
Speaker 11: benefit in lieu of a pay raise, but they cannot
27:14
Speaker 11: continue to bear up under these premium increases. We had
27:20
Speaker 11: a twenty four point two percent increase last physical year.
27:24
Speaker 11: This fiscal year was ten and a half percent, and
27:27
Speaker 11: now we're talking about a fourteen percent increase. And I
27:30
Speaker 11: know before anyone says, well, the private sector they're getting
27:35
Speaker 11: premium increases, you knew.
27:36
Speaker 4: Where I was going with that. I can read your mind.
27:40
Speaker 3: Scary place, but go ahead, it is.
27:42
Speaker 11: I understand that, but sometimes try it. You can't compare
27:47
Speaker 11: the two.
27:48
Speaker 3: Why can't you?
27:49
Speaker 4: Well, because some of our.
27:52
Speaker 11: Public employees are not making the same salaries that you
27:55
Speaker 11: would make in the private sector.
27:58
Speaker 3: And you're right, that was always the thing about being
28:00
Speaker 3: a public employee was well, you may not make as much,
28:03
Speaker 3: but you make up for it. They always pushed the holidays.
28:05
Speaker 3: They pushed holidays. You know, you bank up board more holidays,
28:08
Speaker 3: more time off or whatever. But you also got just
28:11
Speaker 3: what was the bests, what was the best benefits. And
28:14
Speaker 3: that's maybe not necessarily the case anymore.
28:16
Speaker 4: And it's certainly not as cheap, and it's not as cheap.
28:18
Speaker 11: And when we're talking about things like the copays for prescriptions,
28:23
Speaker 11: and we know that what's driving this, or what we've
28:26
Speaker 11: been told by the Peia Finance Board is what's driving
28:30
Speaker 11: this increase.
28:31
Speaker 4: Our prescription cost.
28:33
Speaker 11: You know, I was a I don't take very many prescriptions,
28:38
Speaker 11: but the prescriptions that I have had to get filled.
28:40
Speaker 11: I was a thirty plus year customer of a drug
28:45
Speaker 11: store that now no longer fills prescriptions. They went out
28:50
Speaker 11: of that business. They're a drug store that doesn't sell
28:53
Speaker 11: prescription drugs any longer.
28:55
Speaker 3: There's just a store.
28:56
Speaker 4: Now there's a store.
28:57
Speaker 11: But they can't they couldn't sustain their business because they
29:00
Speaker 11: were not being reimbursed at the rates that other companies
29:05
Speaker 11: drug companies are being reimbursed as. And it's not very funny,
29:11
Speaker 11: but that particular store that I'm speaking of, they sent
29:15
Speaker 11: their prescription, the customer's prescriptions to Walgreens. Well, now I
29:21
Speaker 11: read this week or heard on the news that Walgreens
29:24
Speaker 11: will be closing I think thirteen hundred or more drug
29:27
Speaker 11: stores because they can't keep up with the cost of
29:29
Speaker 11: prescription drugs reimbursement of.
29:32
Speaker 3: You mentioned the fourteen percent increase is what's being talked
29:35
Speaker 3: about for the new year. And one of the things
29:37
Speaker 3: I was reading last night Red said, perhaps a forty
29:40
Speaker 3: percent jump in medical deductibles and doubling the cost of
29:45
Speaker 3: insurance for a spouse if you're married to somebody who
29:48
Speaker 3: is a teacher or any public employee, perhaps a perhaps
29:51
Speaker 3: as much as doubling the cost is.
29:54
Speaker 11: A spouse from one forty nine to three hundred and
29:56
Speaker 11: fifty dollars. So it's it's more than doubling that cost.
30:00
Speaker 11: But the proposed increase for a deductible and out of
30:03
Speaker 11: Park's pocket would be forty percent.
30:06
Speaker 4: You're right, and that's that's a big jump.
30:09
Speaker 3: The Dave Island showing five Adie line brought to you
30:11
Speaker 3: in part by Hustans Pizza this month as your favorite
30:13
Speaker 3: Hustan's pick up a large eighteen inch Pepperoni pizza and
30:16
Speaker 3: an eight inch chocolate chip cookie only twenty three ninety nine.
30:19
Speaker 3: We are talking again to Fred Albert from the American
30:20
Speaker 3: Federation of Teachers, and again, if I read this right
30:24
Speaker 3: doing some research last night, Fred Pia has to have
30:27
Speaker 3: a plan in place by the first of the year.
30:30
Speaker 3: And that's by the first of the year. The legislature, though,
30:34
Speaker 3: will not gavel in.
30:36
Speaker 7: Uh.
30:36
Speaker 3: And you're going to be looking at some new legislators
30:39
Speaker 3: because some may be chose not to run. There'll be
30:42
Speaker 3: some turnover, you know, we'll see some new faces of
30:44
Speaker 3: the dome. They don't they don't gavel in until February, right, Okay,
30:49
Speaker 3: the math doesn't math here, math teacher. The increases are
30:53
Speaker 3: coming January first, and the legislature doesn't come in to
30:56
Speaker 3: try to do something about it, if they can, until
30:58
Speaker 3: the middle of February.
30:59
Speaker 4: Well, that's true, and you know this coming Thursday.
31:03
Speaker 11: The way I understand it, the Peia Finance Board will
31:07
Speaker 11: have another meeting. They just had one last week. They'll
31:10
Speaker 11: have another meeting on the twenty fourth of October, and
31:13
Speaker 11: they will vote on these proposals or this plan, and
31:18
Speaker 11: then they will go out to the public the first
31:20
Speaker 11: or second week in November and have public hearings. I
31:24
Speaker 11: think they have in the past. They've also scheduled a
31:27
Speaker 11: virtual public hearing for those who can't travel or get
31:31
Speaker 11: to a location. But they'll hold public hearings and then
31:34
Speaker 11: they will vote, and you're right before the first of
31:36
Speaker 11: the year, and this will go into effect in the
31:41
Speaker 11: next fiscal year. But you know, the last not this
31:47
Speaker 11: last legislative session, but the one a year ago. We
31:53
Speaker 11: thought they were taking the legislators were taking care of
31:55
Speaker 11: this because if you remember, and I can't remember the
31:58
Speaker 11: Senate bill, but there was a bill passed for the
32:02
Speaker 11: eighty twenty and we were told the reason they were
32:05
Speaker 11: doing that was to make things much better and to
32:10
Speaker 11: get the ship on the right course, and that that
32:14
Speaker 11: would deter some major increases like we're facing again, and
32:20
Speaker 11: here we are less than two years. We're facing some
32:24
Speaker 11: major increases. So I want to ask what happened to
32:29
Speaker 11: the task force? Why do we not have a seat
32:33
Speaker 11: at the table with all participants or representatives of the
32:36
Speaker 11: participants to actually look for a funding stream that will
32:41
Speaker 11: keep us out of this situation because these increases are
32:45
Speaker 11: going to be detrimental to our employees.
32:48
Speaker 3: I need to correct something that we said. Now we said,
32:50
Speaker 3: I said, and Jeff Jenkins just sent me some information
32:53
Speaker 3: on this. I apologize for this. The PA rates actually
32:56
Speaker 3: go from July first to June thirtieth, so the new
32:58
Speaker 3: rates won't go into effect told July first, twenty twenty five.
33:01
Speaker 11: Right, but they have to they have to have they
33:03
Speaker 11: have to vote on this in January.
33:05
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, uh Texas Dave p i A needs to
33:08
Speaker 3: tell where the cost keep going up as as a
33:13
Speaker 3: doctor's medical equipment. Medicine gives each person that has p
33:16
Speaker 3: i A that breakdown of costs top to bottom. Would
33:18
Speaker 3: you agree with that that needs to be done?
33:20
Speaker 4: Yes?
33:21
Speaker 3: Absolutely, all right, So all right, let me just throw
33:24
Speaker 3: this out here. If if you Fred Albert of the
33:26
Speaker 3: American Federation of Teachers, I'll throw in you know, your
33:28
Speaker 3: counterpart daily over w V e A. If you were
33:30
Speaker 3: in charge, you you're you're you're the kings of this
33:34
Speaker 3: for one day, what would you do?
33:37
Speaker 11: We would do what we've long said, we would find
33:42
Speaker 11: We would bring people to the table, all stakeholders, uh
33:47
Speaker 11: and thoroughly, and not stop until we have found a
33:51
Speaker 11: way to fix pe i A have a permanent funding source.
33:56
Speaker 4: That's what I would do.
33:58
Speaker 7: Uh.
33:58
Speaker 3: Final text where we let you go friends, is Dave
34:00
Speaker 3: eastern end of k Valley has been neglected for years
34:03
Speaker 3: and we are fed up with these kickstar communities. While
34:08
Speaker 3: I will remember this come November, it's what a text said.
34:10
Speaker 3: And I know you don't want to necessarily get into
34:13
Speaker 3: all that, but it is had been. As you know,
34:15
Speaker 3: you're part of the world. It has been a difficult
34:17
Speaker 3: few years for the folks in eastern Knak County.
34:19
Speaker 11: It sure has been. You know, I grew up in
34:22
Speaker 11: a little town called Holly Lawn. There it was below
34:26
Speaker 11: the DuPont plant. My dad was a longtime employee of DuPont,
34:29
Speaker 11: and I remember back in the day when DuPont in
34:32
Speaker 11: the heyday, hired over five thousand employees. Well, now you know,
34:37
Speaker 11: it's not even DuPont, it's Chamores or Camores. That whole
34:42
Speaker 11: community was by imminent domain taken over by the Marmette Locks.
34:49
Speaker 11: So that community no longer exists, but that whole part
34:52
Speaker 11: of the county has been neglected. I would agree with
34:54
Speaker 11: the texture on that.
34:56
Speaker 3: All right, Red, it's difficult times when you start talking
35:00
Speaker 3: about this PIA stuff, and these public hearings are going
35:02
Speaker 3: to be coming up, and will of course be attending those,
35:04
Speaker 3: and we'll be following. We'll have information online and on
35:06
Speaker 3: the air as well about all these public hearings. I
35:08
Speaker 3: do appreciate you stopping by to see us. It seems
35:11
Speaker 3: like every time that you're here it's not necessarily bad news,
35:14
Speaker 3: but it's not always the most pleasant news in the world.
35:16
Speaker 3: But I do appreciate you being here as always.
35:18
Speaker 11: Well, thank you, David. We'll always have something to talk
35:20
Speaker 11: about always, all right.
35:22
Speaker 3: That is our good friend Fred Albert from the American

40:50
Speaker 3: Tex says SB two sixty eight was necessary to keep
40:53
Speaker 3: large increases from happening. All right, So again I'm gonna
40:59
Speaker 3: I'm gonna try to explore this little bit more. I
41:01
Speaker 3: have a frequent contact with Senator Amy Nicole Grady, of course,
41:04
Speaker 3: who is a classroom instructor, and when she's not legislating,
41:09
Speaker 3: she is a classroom instructor. So I am going to
41:12
Speaker 3: talk to Amy Grady. I want to work to try
41:14
Speaker 3: to get her on the show. Next week because I
41:16
Speaker 3: think Senator Grady's got a unique perspective here because again
41:20
Speaker 3: she is in addition to being a legislator, she is
41:23
Speaker 3: also a teacher, a classroom teacher in Mason County. So
41:27
Speaker 3: I'm going to try to work to get Senator Grady
41:29
Speaker 3: on the show too. Coming up on the show on Monday,
41:32

42:30
Speaker 3: in talking to Fred Albert from the AFT on the
42:33
Speaker 3: show earlier early in the show, they can all board
42:36
Speaker 3: did vote unanimously last night to close mary Ingles Elementary
42:40
Speaker 3: as part of the school consolidation plan. Now this one's
42:43
Speaker 3: a little bit more complicated than what we saw last
42:47
Speaker 3: week with the some of the schools in the Saint
42:49
Speaker 3: Albans area, because you know, they gotta work with the
42:53
Speaker 3: SBA to get approval for a new school board. But
42:55
Speaker 3: they vote last night to close mary Ingles was five
42:58
Speaker 3: to nothing, and as I mentioned, it was I did
43:01
Speaker 3: not attend, but I did read the story posted this
43:04
Speaker 3: morning Aaron on our website, a very very emotional meeting.
43:10
Speaker 3: I heard some of the audio. Fred and I talked
43:12
Speaker 3: about it coming in this morning, and it's never easy.
43:16
Speaker 3: It is the lead story this morning WV Metronews dot
43:19
Speaker 3: Com with Aaron Parkersoo. So go check that out.
43:21
Speaker 6: Now.
43:21
Speaker 3: The next meeting on consolidation, I understand this one for
43:24
Speaker 3: Malden will be Monday evening at Riverside High School. And
43:28
Speaker 3: you know, there is a tendency, I think of these
43:31
Speaker 3: situations to vilify the Board of Education members, and we happened.
43:34
Speaker 3: This happens in all areas of the state, not just Kana,
43:36
Speaker 3: and other counties too, because they're the ones that have
43:39
Speaker 3: to make these difficult decisions. But again, as we've said
43:41
Speaker 3: since day one and talking about these things, whether it's
43:44
Speaker 3: Kana or whether it's any other county, no oney wants
43:47
Speaker 3: to see their community schools close. We get that. But
43:51
Speaker 3: the cost of keeping these schools going for is fred
43:55
Speaker 3: even admitted for a limited amount a much lesser I'll
44:00
Speaker 3: it that way, number of students than what they were
44:02
Speaker 3: seeing ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. Certainly when you and
44:05
Speaker 3: I were in school, there's a lot less kids there.
44:07
Speaker 3: It's not just because of the population drain. That's a
44:10
Speaker 3: big part of it. I mean, especially the Kana Valley.
44:13
Speaker 3: You know, the those of you that have been around
44:15
Speaker 3: the valley a lot longer than I have. You know,
44:16
Speaker 3: with the chemical plants closing and so on and so forth,
44:19
Speaker 3: that we just got a whole lot fewer people, let
44:21
Speaker 3: alone kids. We've got fewer people. We had the oldest
44:25
Speaker 3: state in the nation. We are getting some influx of people,
44:29
Speaker 3: which is good news, but it's more and more parents
44:35
Speaker 3: are also choosing alternative methods other than public schools, and
44:40
Speaker 3: fred and daily and these other folks will they're fully
44:43
Speaker 3: aware of that. They're not ignoring that that people are
44:45
Speaker 3: choosing alternate methods of educating their kids other than just
44:50
Speaker 3: the traditional brick and mortar you know, elementary, middle school
44:54
Speaker 3: or high school. They're just they're just choosing different methods,
44:57
Speaker 3: and that also factors in it as well. It is
45:00
Speaker 3: not easy urge you to go over and read some
45:02
Speaker 3: pretty in depth story that Aaron did on the website
45:04
Speaker 3: wv metronews dot com. We're going to take a break,
45:08
Speaker 3: get some other things I want to get to in
45:09
Speaker 3: the news, and if I get time to it, I
45:12
Speaker 3: want to get into something else, something I actually wrote
45:15
Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago, and has to do with
45:17
Speaker 3: false information and false information being thrown out there. I
45:21
Speaker 3: call them davittorioals. When I just get something on my mind,
45:23
Speaker 3: and that's sitting in front the computer and I just
45:24
Speaker 3: bang out something real quick. Then I carry it around
45:26
Speaker 3: for two to three weeks because I never have time
45:27
Speaker 3: to get to it. I may actually have time to
45:29
Speaker 3: get to it this morning, and I will try to
45:31
Speaker 3: get to that when we come back right after this.
45:33
Speaker 3: I'm the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

48:02
Speaker 3: only did I get paid to read that, but I'm
48:05
Speaker 3: also a client. I've started physical therapy a couple of
48:08
Speaker 3: days ago. Doctor Travis there is going to kill me, probably,
48:14
Speaker 3: but I got to get something done about the spinal issue,
48:17
Speaker 3: and so he's got me me. He didn't hurt me
48:20
Speaker 3: too bad, but he says he's accepted the challenge. He
48:23
Speaker 3: doesn't do that to you, He'll just just do that
48:25
Speaker 3: to me. I mean, I got a couple of texts here, Texas, Dave.
48:30
Speaker 3: These politicians want to close our public schools. They wanted
48:34
Speaker 3: to send Hoover to Capital and not build it back,
48:36
Speaker 3: and that would have destroyed that community. Vote these people out,
48:39
Speaker 3: says a texture. Tex says, Dave. This story broke last night.
48:43
Speaker 3: The Biden Harris e PA told out millions of taxpayer
48:46
Speaker 3: dollars in August to left wing nonprofit consortiums linked to
48:49
Speaker 3: Democratic voter mobilization efforts, including a Stacey Abrams get Out
48:53
Speaker 3: of the Vote initiative based in Georgia. EPA announced that
48:56
Speaker 3: the Power Forward Communities received two billion dollars under the
48:59
Speaker 3: Inflation Reduction Act twenty seven billion dollars greenhouse Gas Production
49:03
Speaker 3: Fund on August sixteenth. They partner with the array of
49:05
Speaker 3: Democratic Party affiliated groups in addition to the two times
49:08
Speaker 3: Georgia governor candidate Abram's fair count, including the nation's largest
49:12
Speaker 3: teachers union, a major contributor to Democratic candidates and a
49:16
Speaker 3: prominent climate activist group. According to a review on the
49:19
Speaker 3: pfc's website, this is your tax money people. As a Texter,
49:24
Speaker 3: Hoppy actually wrote about some of the things with the
49:26
Speaker 3: EPA and his commentary at this prenty. I want to
49:29
Speaker 3: and this is not linked to that text, by the way,
49:31
Speaker 3: because I don't know whether I'll look into it. This
49:33
Speaker 3: is not in any way, shape, form or fashion to
49:35
Speaker 3: quot or governor linked to that necessarily. But I do
49:39
Speaker 3: want to spend some time talking about false information. Are
49:44
Speaker 3: we losing the battle against misinformation? You know, we saw
49:49
Speaker 3: it in the with the hurricane A couple with the
49:51
Speaker 3: two weeks the two two straight weeks week and a
49:53
Speaker 3: half of hurricanes over the last few weeks. If you
49:55
Speaker 3: remember that your social media feed, if is anything like mine,
49:58
Speaker 3: I was filled with stuff that was just playing wrong
50:01
Speaker 3: or never happen at all. The obviously artificial intelligence pictures
50:06
Speaker 3: that came out of the Carolinas and the clean up
50:10
Speaker 3: efforts there. We all saw, if you go back a
50:12
Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago, that sad picture of the little
50:14
Speaker 3: girl floating through floodwaters holding onto her dog. Sad picture.
50:18
Speaker 3: Little girl was crying all one hundred percent fake. The
50:23
Speaker 3: picture of former President Trump wading through the floodwaters wearing
50:27
Speaker 3: a life jacket. I mean, do you really think that
50:30
Speaker 3: any president Trump, Biden, Clinton, Washington, any president is going
50:36
Speaker 3: to wade through floodwaters not knowing what is in those
50:40
Speaker 3: normally contaminated waters, or Congressman or anybody. Nobody's going to
50:45
Speaker 3: I mean, the people an't gonna let him do that.
50:47
Speaker 3: And there's just so much of that stuff going The
50:52
Speaker 3: stuff about FEMA only given seven hundred and fifty dollars
50:56
Speaker 3: to flood victims, that's the initial payment. It has been
50:59
Speaker 3: proven that that is, to say that that is all
51:02
Speaker 3: they were given is completely false. Now it is true
51:04
Speaker 3: that you know, again some of it was given for
51:06
Speaker 3: first up. They did it here in the valley too,
51:10
Speaker 3: for initial cost to kind of get you back on
51:12
Speaker 3: your feet. Then you apply for That's that's the way FEMA.
51:14
Speaker 3: That's the way FEMA works. Not always perfect, but that
51:16
Speaker 3: is the way that it works. It is from what's
51:19
Speaker 3: called the Serious Needs Assistance Program. But I don't want
51:22
Speaker 3: to really get off on that. And what happens is
51:25
Speaker 3: is people take this stuff and they then share it,
51:29
Speaker 3: and it's not just the stuff about missing kids. If
51:31
Speaker 3: you're scrolling Facebook right now, and obviously I'm not downplane,
51:35
Speaker 3: you know, kidnapping and things of that nature. About ninety
51:38
Speaker 3: percent of the pictures you're seeing on Facebook of missing kids,
51:42
Speaker 3: abuse kids are fake. And I guess the bottom line
51:46
Speaker 3: is if it doesn't come from a reputable news source,
51:50
Speaker 3: simply don't share it. A cop you know, remember a
51:52
Speaker 3: month or so ago, we were talking about all these
51:54
Speaker 3: school threats that were made in this in this area
51:57
Speaker 3: and in other areas as well. I had the Kanawh
51:59
Speaker 3: County process on the show as well as one of
52:01
Speaker 3: the folks with Homeland Security, and they point blank said
52:04
Speaker 3: the biggest problem during that time that school officials, law
52:10
Speaker 3: enforcement people were having was parents, not kids. It was
52:15
Speaker 3: parents and grandparents and other adults sharing false information. One
52:20
Speaker 3: story came out of one county, not Canal, but another
52:22
Speaker 3: one and it got shared and reposted about an active
52:25
Speaker 3: shooter with a gun at a school. Problem was it
52:28
Speaker 3: never happened, and it wasn't the kids sharing this, it
52:32
Speaker 3: was the adults. So all closed by just saying, look
52:37
Speaker 3: before you share, stop putting out false information. Life's tough
52:40
Speaker 3: enough without you putting out crap, which a lot of
52:43
Speaker 3: this stuff is crap. Make sure it comes from a
52:44
Speaker 3: repidable news source and check it and recheck it. That's
52:49
Speaker 3: all we have to do in this business. So just
52:51
Speaker 3: letting you know, all right, have yourself a great weekend, folks.
52:53
