Transcript
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Mile High Huddle Podcast with your football freeze, Chad Jensen and Zach Kilmer.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, Broncos Country is not a geographical location.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's a state of being.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome in everybody.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's the mile high huddle podcast.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm your host Chad Jensen with me.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_02]: My fellow football priests.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: I guess this way.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you love him.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: Zach Kelverman Zach.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's not exactly news news because well, it's news, but it's nothing we didn't already know, but John L. way has officially been cleared by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department in Southern California.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_02]: of any criminal wrongdoing in the tragic accidental death of his former agent, business partner, and good friend, Jeff Spurbeck, your thoughts.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: There's really no good outcome because someone in the end lost their life.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: So it's still a tragedy, Chad, and I don't want to come off too preachy.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad that there's no criminal wrongdoing on an L-way's part, but still, Jeff Spurbeck is no longer with us because of tragedy.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: So it's still very sad.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I'm not, I don't even want to say the S word.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even want to say it's it's it's I'm not going to do it.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to let Scott try and remedy it, but our Facebook people I might have to hit him up here in a second with a YouTube link.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, dude, it's just one of those things like I took exception.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't like the inferences of
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: Because John L. way has a little bit of a reputations act of inviting.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't like the automatic jokes and people inferring that that must have had something to do with it.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: What a terrible thing.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I got to tell you, Zach, it wouldn't matter if I had nothing, if it wasn't my fault.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: If I'm cruising on a, whether it's a car, golf cart, I'm driving a mind in whatever pees and queues speed limits I should, you're on the back and inexplicably you just fall off smack your head.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: I would still have tremendous guilt over that, even if there was technically nothing I did wrong, I would still feel.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: So my heart goes out the other way.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, you know, the Spurbeck family is where the most prayers and thoughts on all that and vibes should be directed, but I do feel for the Duke.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we talked about that at the time of the accident.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: The guilt that L.A.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: must feel.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, wrongdoing or not, which it came out to be where there was none.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, yeah, it's still just a tragedy.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, John's processing that as is the Esperbeck family.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: Is that give me a favor and grab Mr. Papa bear while I take care of something real quick on this.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's driven.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: Papa bear, five dollar super.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much, David, as always, each and every single podcast.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Good evening, Brock, as country hashtag, thirteen and four plus plus plus plus.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: As usual, very consistent.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much, David.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Hope you're having good Monday night.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, much love and respect to you, my friend, every single I do and your your super chat message has become a constant not only are the super chats a constant, but your message thirteen and four plus plus love you big dog.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you and we hope you're training in the right direction.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: I got a post real quick the YouTube stream to Facebook because Facebook is not wanting to play ball with.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to say the S word tonight.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: Boom, so sorry about that guys.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: I hate to derail it, but if it's not one thing with this platform lately, Zach, it's another.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: And really, I had no complaints whatsoever about this platform.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the platform that shall not be named up until November when it started doing the connectivity issues thing with Facebook.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then, of course, the stuff that started happening about a week and a half ago, I'm over it and I feel for our audience because they don't want to hear it.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: Scott's gonna see if he can't get connected to Facebook but I don't expect it to work if it doesn't work the first time it usually doesn't work so anyway
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: That whole thing is resolved, no criminal, anything to be handed down, always direction.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_02]: But Zach, you also had a story for us.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: The Broncos former multi-year, all-pro, pro, bull, or Super Bowl, fifty MVP von Miller.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_02]: He's still out there dangling on the free agent market.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: He hasn't seemed to be in any kind of hurry to get signed, but apparently there are three teams.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: Super interested in signing the monster.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: What he got.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: This is according to NFM network analyst, Brian Baldinger.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: He was on the DNVR podcast about a week and a half ago.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: He talked to Joe B. Brandon, who he played college football with.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: Brandon is Vaughn Miller's longtime agent.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: Agent, excuse me, and Brandon said that there's three teams.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: Unnamed on disclose teams that are interested in Vaughn services very interested according to balldinger and he expects Vaughn to be signed reasonably soon probably right after training camp or before the season so it seems like Vaughn is going to be playing in twenty twenty five.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: He already ruled out the brachos so for anyone who has their hopes still high on that you guys want to just let exhale let that go but
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: In twenty twenty six, Chad, as I wrote, when maybe his playing career is over, it's fate a company that Vaughan is going to come back to the mile high city and retire as he should a member of the brokers.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: He has said that he wants to.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: Justin Simmons said that he wants to retire a Bronco that days for Justin Simmons, it might be a little bit farther out for Vaughan.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how much how much more money do you need.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: You already have two rings.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: I question whether he should even continue playing.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: Not because he's totally lost it.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: He can still go out there and play, but if you're not
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like the second democracy wears that became anything less than an assumed you're the guy starter.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: He said audio.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: Now he also and retired.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: He also those act for what it's worth democracy wear the last couple of years.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: Really dealt with some pretty significant injuries, especially that final year he was in Denver, twenty sixteen.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: which is what gave rise of course to Shane Ray's kind of psych season where you started getting excited a little bit that he might be something yet eight sacks that season in relief of D where I digress my point being here just go out go out on top maybe bond while you still have everything all your accolades all the money the championships and your pride
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just has a quick assignment saw something from NFL network and a film media podcast that best players of the last twenty five years.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: Guess who wasn't on there.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: Font Miller, but TJ walk was the guy who's never made a Super Bowl and the guy who has a Super Bowl MVP, not on the list, but neither here nor there I guess.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of crazy how how glazed.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: TJ Watt constantly get is by the by the national press.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: It kind of blows my mind.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: Not to take anything away from him.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: He's one of the best adressors of this period.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: Arguably since he came into the league, the best adressor, but his accomplishments.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's got the individuals that accolades, but has it availed the Steelers in the final analysis?
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: you know playoffers cool uh bengie clay brother what's good happy to see you thank you for the super chat because i think the division is between us and l.a.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: k.c.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: out who i wouldn't do that buddy i wouldn't do a bengie i would not sleep in or in any way shape or form dismiss
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: the chiefs.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: Zach, try and steal man his argument.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: Why should we dismiss Casey?
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: Not to say this is what you think, but try to steal man.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Why Casey should be dismissed.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: There is this notion that because they've reached the Super Bowl and they were in a strong they lost convincingly to the Philadelphia Eagles that there no longer the dynasty no longer the threat they've been in recent years and
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that I agree with that, but that's the prevailing theme.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: The Broncos are on the rise, the chargers with harbors, and they have a running game now.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe with a Marianne Hampton hitting hurt.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: They're on the rise as well.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: We don't count the Raiders because who really cares.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: And KC, homes as a year older, reads a year older, Chris Jones and Kelsey are there a year older.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: And there is this narrative that they're falling off.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe that yet.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: And until proven otherwise, Benji, like Chad was saying, it's a little, I don't know, foreboding to assume that they're not going to be in the picture.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: Until someone, whether L.A.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: or Denver knocks them off the mountain top, they're still the kings of the west.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: Don't give me wrong, Benji.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: I want to believe, right, right there alongside your big dog.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_02]: But one,
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: step back one kind of oops kind of game, which obviously came in the penultimate worst possible moment.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: In the Super Bowl, doesn't mean I'm going to dismiss what has been Zach a nearly and possibly, I have to examine the numbers, but unprecedented rain in the AFC West.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, how many straight?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: Twenty, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty, twenty, twenty, twenty, twenty, twenty, twenty, twenty, four, nine straight division titles.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: Has that ever happened in the AFC West before I don't think so so it's unprecedented rain.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: Everything comes to an end all good things right it's going to it's going to come to an end.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: Is there any reason to believe.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to be this year of all I mean maybe Zach if.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, they lost that super bowl and anti read retires and there's this big shake up and change organizationally that didn't happen dude.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: reads back, they're going to be a factor.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: And the thing that actually bothers me the most, some people's essay is actually the silver lining or the, you know, the reason or the evidence that Casey's starting to kind of lose it.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: And that is how many games was it that they prevailed in in one score last year?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: It was like ridiculous nine and over something like that, including the Broncos when the chips were down.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of funny how when you're the best, the ball bounces your way all the time.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: And we can cry about the refs and this and that, but really it's, they're that good.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: And so I need to see it before I can fully dismiss them.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: Now, that doesn't mean that I'm going to say that the Broncos can't handle their business with the cheese, but like you and I have been saying throughout the offseason,
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: How are you going to do outside those games?
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: We already know that the Broncos are on a chiefs level in terms of competing head-to-head on an any given Sunday kind of basis.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_02]: Sean Payton has leveled those scales.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: But how are you going to do against the bigger opponents on your schedule, not in case including the chargers?
- 10:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Jim Harbau will talk about these CBS sports rankings.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's just fodder guys.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: No one really cares.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's more just for conversation.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: Like at the very top of this show,
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was David talking about it for if Broncos fans should be have their feelings heard over CBS ranking Sean Peyton is the eleventh best head coach.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: No, we shouldn't even care to be all that honest.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's really just hey guys we're in the dog days man like we're.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: worse were about a week and a half almost two weeks out from actual training camp starting.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: So these are just conversation pieces, but Zach, Sean Peyton, the eleventh ranked head coach by CBS Sports, which comes on the heels of whatever it was last week, PFF ranking him the number two returning head coach.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: So nobody's going to rank a first time head coach in the top five anyway, that has any brains.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: So basically puts Sean Peyton number two, PFF number eleven, according to Cody Benjamin.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I put a bow on the the KC thing.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think back to two thousand and eight when the Patriots, the undefeated season came to an end against the giants and every team around the NFL thought that was their chance.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: The dynasty is over.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: There are no longer the superpower and how that work out for the NFL.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: Brady and the Patriots went on to continue their stronghold on the league.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: So don't kind of can't do city.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of Sean Payton's ranking, Chad, I know I start like a broken record, but it's the same thing every time.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's one person's opinion.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Whether it's butchers by data or metrics or anonymous sources or a poll or whatever, it's still one person's list and it's subjective.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what we're going to debate here, the veracity of whether eleven play suit Sean Peyton.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's a top ten coach, but obviously CBS Sports doesn't.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: Lots more to get to on this subject.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: I have more thoughts.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: I would like to share.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: We want to hear your guys thoughts and takes on this subject.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: But first guys, look, as I just mentioned, summers here.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's the dog days of us waiting for Broncos training camp to kick off.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting more sun.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting more light.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting more time to do all the things that make summer so special.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: And the number one thing you don't want to be doing in the summer.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's, of course, spending hours inside cooking, slaving away at the stove.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's where factor comes in.

- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: She didn't know that factor was back with the MHH pod this particular week.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_02]: And she even said to me today, hey, you know, her old man, my father-in-law, he lives in kind of a remote area, shout out Ed, much love.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: And hopefully he doesn't hear this, actually, because it might ruin the surprise, but he won't, I don't think he will.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: Either way.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: She brought up that because he's solo, he doesn't cook much and whatnot.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: His kids worry that he's not eating, right?
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: Just like, what about Factor?
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think we could maybe get a subscription for him and surprise him?

- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate you.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: Back to the chat.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_02]: We go, um, Zach, on the subject of Sean Peyton and where he ranks.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: If you look at Benjamin's rankings, I'll go through this with you.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_02]: Just for fun.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just do it for fun.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what are we doing here?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: We're just having fun.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_02]: We're just going through and discussing things and breaking it down to ridiculous levels until we actually have something new with which to sink our teeth into.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: But let me just walk you through who he has ahead of.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_02]: of Sean Payton.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_02]: So in reverse or in descending order, sorry.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, shocker and he read.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: Number two, this is where I kind of scratched my head a little bit ago, okay.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_02]: Sean McVay.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_02]: Number three, John Harba.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Number four, Nick Seriani of the Eagles.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Number five, Dan Campbell of the Lions.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Number six, Jim Harba of the Chargers.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_02]: Seven is Kyle Shanahan's nine and the Niners, then you got the Packers and Matt LaFlorzac followed by Kevin O'Connell at number nine, the Vikings, rounding out the top ten is Mike Tomlin and the Steelers.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_02]: Now, all those names I just mentioned, not necessarily like in a specific ranking, but of those coaches, which
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: Sean Peyton better than time test that I feel like he's a better coach than Dan Campbell I feel like his equity on his side of the ball is better than Dan Campbell's I just all these coaches that never once squat and Sean Peyton's one of Super Bowl he's on the verge of building up another franchise quarterback and I just want to know Chad what is the criteria for these rankings is just because these are the coaches this offer likes more than others is there's some
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't understand where you have coaches that are more successful and have accomplished more and are more known quite frankly lower than others on the list.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I like what you said there about the time tested thing.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: That should factor into the equation.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports list his criteria.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_02]: However, upon each name listed, he has their previous ranking from last year.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: How many seasons they're with their respective team, et cetera, et cetera.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: And in the case of that top ten, look up, I can say, okay, any read, yeah, at this stage, we can't put Sean Pay and over Andy read.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: I would put Sean Peyton over Sean McVay currently mainly because of what you just mentioned, the time tested aspect.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: John Harba, it's a little bit tougher, but in terms of
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't call plays, dude, like he doesn't, yes, it's still his baby and it's the image of his team and we don't want to sell him short because he's not, you know, calling plays on defense or offense and what not, and he comes from the special teams background originally all that, but still a guy who's, I don't know, I would personally, I trying to be as objective as I could, I would put Sean Peyton,
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: in front of him because of how hands on he is with everything.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: Then you get Nick Seriani, okay, there's an argument to have Sean Peyton below Nick, because he's coming off an actual Super Bowl victory, but I don't even need to go any further.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: Dan Campbell's a sprig off the Sean Peyton coaching tree, and he's still, even though this is his fifth season's act, his like stunning success, it's still pretty fresh.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't Matt LaFlor, like nine or ten there, or eight somewhere on the top ten.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: What is he done?
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: To make to be the number eight overall coach in the NFL, to be to earn this ranking and have someone like Sean Payton who's been a coach longer, one more done more with two different teams I should add.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: Why is he eighth and Sean Payton's left?
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's another one that I take a little umbridge with.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: As some of our Facebookers trickle into the YouTube stream guys yeah you're probably you're probably guessing by now fill unfortunately some kind of a disconnect between the old streaming platform and Facebook Streamyard says that it's on Facebook's end but.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I believe that to be frank with you.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: So we're just rolling with the punches.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: And unfortunately, we can't fix it while we're live.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_02]: And even if we weren't live, we couldn't necessarily fix it.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: We just have to keep trying to connect.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: And when it doesn't connect, we just have to bear down and march ahead.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: So sorry about the inconvenience, but welcome on YouTube, guys.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome on YouTube.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Zach, back to some matters at hand, some interesting topics.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: This is kind of fun.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm at the risk of doing any harm to the stream.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to try a little scratch and sniff here.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I think we'll be all right.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's a little bit less cool or intuitive to do it from Firefox, but I'm going to go for it anyway.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: Let me try and blow this up over here.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: So this is a
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: Fun exercise that Bob Morris is doing.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: And it's basically taking this kind of a fun trip down memory lane.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: And that's where we're at right now, guys.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we're on July, fourteenth.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: But the headline seven rounds, one decade, top Broncos draft picks of the nineteen eighties and in his article Bob goes through and basically picks who the best draft pick for each of the seven rounds, even
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: knowing that in the eighties, I mean, what was Mecklenburg, a twelve-thrown pick, you know, different points.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was ninety- ninety that that changed.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: When was it that it just was seven rounds?
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: Either way, he kept it seven rounds in the interest of that's kind of the modern game.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: But the best first round pick amongst all the first rounders taken in nineteen eighty nine was Steve Outwater.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: Arkansas went on to be a perennial pro bowler multi all pro Zach two time world champion your thoughts on Steve water at waters that be in the the the the best first round pick of the nineteen age easy choice there yeah also an all universe nice guy as we found out in person anyone who comes across the that water walks away smiling he's just that much of an amazing human being even better player yeah so easy choice
- 20:52[SPEAKER_02]: There are some other contenders like Dennis Smith, who was Steve's mentor.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: He was the team's first round pick in eighty one out of USC, but he just, you can't really eclipse what outwater went on to do even though they're both on opposite ends of the eighty's eighty one versus eighty nine.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_02]: Another honorable mention for first round would be Steve's soul.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_02]: The running back, he was the first round pick in eighty five.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know, an honorable honorable mention, maybe one step down from that would be ricking a tail to white receiver who was an eighty seven first round pick and one of the three amigos, but we come back now Zack's that still showing the article.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, I want to make sure, okay, the best second round pick of the eighties for the Broncos also in no brain or Simon Fletcher, the Rush Linebacker and the guy who
- 21:45[SPEAKER_02]: basically has been a leading franchise leader in in Sacks for a long, long time Simon Fletcher, Zach at as the best second round pick of the eight eighties, eighty five.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone we just talked about Vaughn Miller obviously he holds a lot of reverence and Broncos country, but this was Vaughn Miller before Vaughn Miller.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: So again, another easy choice.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: Did Vaughn surpass him?
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: I got to double check something.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, Von did surpass Simon Fletcher's career sack mark, hundred and ten and a half sacks as a Bronco to Simon Fletcher's
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: ninety seven and a half.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: So the other contenders here.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: I won't go through them all, but as Bob notes rule on Jones, Vance Johnson.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people forget rule on Jones was not a first round pick.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: It was actually a second round pick.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: Now, admittedly as Bob gets into this, I'm going to kind of gloss over a couple of these in the third and fourth round.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: It gets a little bit sketchy because not a lot of them paned out, paned out in any kind of iconic way.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: But round three, he's got Michael Brooks, who was a linebacker in
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: did receive, however, look, listen, his third round wasn't kind of the Broncos in the eighties, but they did find a solid player in Michael Brooks, who had earned a starting job in eighties, and that was the year we went on to get eviscerated by the San Francisco, forty-niners in the Super Bowl, and held on to it through nineteen ninety-two when he received his first pro bull nod.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: So, hey, you found a pro bull or, especially back then, Zach, in the third round, good on you, then you got in round four Randy Robbins defensive back,
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Nineteen eighty four fourth rounder this one again.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: He's mainly a contributor, but Ken Lanier most M. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's an interesting choice in round five.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: And like you said, a lot of people already familiar with him.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: If you listen to Tom, listen to MHH, he's a very insightful, I guess, analyst now, but he was a good player back in the day.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let me just see Keith Bishop, offensive guard in round six, the best round six pick of the Broncos in the eighties.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: has a case for the ring of fame.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: Clarence K though.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: This was the tight end of the eighties for the Broncos.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: He was a seventh round pick.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously not elite, but back then, you know, tight ends didn't exactly thrive.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: There were a few.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_02]: Don't get me wrong across the NFL, like Aussie News, some and there were some others, but
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: The NFL didn't really evolve from a passing perspective until the late nineties started to earlier in the nineties, but really kind of hitting that next level with the braidies and the mannings and the warners and whatnot.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: But Clarence K, he was a guy I remember well and fondly from my youth as the best seventh round pick of the eighties for the Broncos.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: So just kind of fun.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, here we are, guys, we're just going through it's worth some fun discussion.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as you said, he had like, uh, three hundred and fifty two yards and four touchdowns and nineteen eighty seven or whatever was eighty.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty good for its height and back then.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: Indeed.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: All right, guys, uh, we're sitting here.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's twenty five minutes.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: Look.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: As far as stories, I got to make sure I'm not missing something.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: Consider this guy's kind of like your two minute warning on the stream.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_02]: Not to say we're going to be out here in two minutes, but kind of like, hey, if you got anything specific, you want to talk about get it in their ASAP because, uh,
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: We're we're probably going to dip on out here, but this is an interesting story, Zach, from that Keith Cummings had at MHH over the weekend.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't get a chance to talk about this yesterday.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I'm pretty sure.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: But Colin Coward, who has been a big Sean Peyton proponent since he decided to leave Fox Sports and rejoin the NFL head coaching ranks, he had some interesting things to say about Sean Peyton last week on his podcast, slash radio show.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember if it was on his podcast or radio show, but this is what he said.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_02]: I want your thoughts Colin Coward talking about Sean Peyton quote, he took a bad offensive line.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: The O line is now ranked number two.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: He took over a shaky defense.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: They led the NFL and SAX.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: Broncos upgraded at safety and linebacker on players that were Niners just a year ago.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_02]: He inherited a horrible culture, a massive quarterback moved off Russell Wilson deadcap money, and in a division with Andy Reed and Jim Harbaugh, he took a rookie quarterback to the playoffs.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: That is what I've been saying about Sean Peyton.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: This is my favorite part.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: He's direct.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: He is Kurt.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: He can turn people off.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: He is brilliant.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: Is that close quote?
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: All facts.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: And again, like you said, consider the source.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's a long time confident on of Sean Peyton, but everything he said there objectively is true.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I don't understand, Chad, and you rank not you, but they're ranking of Sean Peyton, a Levinth overall is, is a little crazy to me.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's, it's pretty cool.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: Now the job's just getting, getting started.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's far from complete for Sean Peyton, as far as the full turnaround of the Denver Broncos, but I would say that he's done more in those first two years.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: then almost anybody could have realistically expected.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like I've said a few times, what the Broncos achieved last year with a rookie bonus was what I honestly hoped to see Zach this year, which is the third year of the Sean Peyton regime slash era.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: So he's kind of managed to microwave the turnaround and that's due to getting a little bit fortunate on some of the draft picks.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_02]: And of course,
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: The NFL, they're going to ruin letting Bonyx fall to the Broncos at number twelve last year.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: But, Nage, what's up, dude?
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: Great to meet you tonight.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: Great to see you.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: How are things?
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: Are things trending in a more hopeful direction for you?
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: I hope so.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: On the work front, I'm saying.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: Great to see you big dog, much love and respect.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: He says, Brothers, hope all is super.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: My bro's counting down the days to ball be in back.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: I have a great feeling.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: Eleven and six, my bro's and a trip to the AFC championship game.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: My crystal ball stopped there.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see what happens.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: I love it, dude.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to think the last time the Broncos got to the AFC championship game and did not advance has to be that two thousand five season Jake Plummer turns in his worst performance ever in the worst possible moment against the Steelers at home in Denver and Steelers advanced to the Super Bowl, but yeah dude we're excited to Big Dog
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I will take it now, for sure, even if the crystal ball stops at that point, like this is the next level of progression realistically for Sean Peyton for Bonix and year two of that collective operation.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: They already won ten games.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: They made the playoffs.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: Now you have to get back to the playoffs and win some games in the postseason.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: Make a little run.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: Get to the AFC title game.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: Make some noise.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: establish yourself as a premier team in the AFC up there with Buffalo, in Baltimore, in Kansas City.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: That is a reasonable expectation.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: Not to say they're going to win the Super Bowl, but there's no reason not to stay healthy and we'll knock wood like every other podcast that they can't make this run and your crystal ball doesn't turn out to be a hundred percent accurate.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, my point about reflecting back on when's the last time the Broncos made an AFC title game and didn't advance.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: My point there is simply to illustrate that if the Broncos get to the AFC title game.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: eighty percent chance they win that game and advance to the Super Bowl because they are eight and ten all time in the AFC championship game they've lost only twice if they've made it that far one is the one I just mentioned that oh five loss to the Steelers but then from there you got to go all the way back to the ninety one season
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: which was the playoff game itself played in nineteen ninety two Broncos lost at the buffalo bills so that was a heartbreaker and it was a weird game to tend to seven the bills won that game they made it to the Super Bowl couldn't win the Super Bowl even though they made it four times in a row but those are the only two times that an AFC championship game has been lost by the Denver Broncos one on always watch one on Jake Plummers watch
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love for the AFC title game to be the Broncos and the Bills, kind of rectify the wild card loss from this past year.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: Get the Broncos over the home.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: There'll be a lot of history in that game, but now I'll take it for now when we're very excited about the season as we know you are.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you again.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: and stoke to hang with you dude week seven Broncos Giants October nineteen the MHH meeting greets going to be so fun dude Mike Thompson thank you for the super chat bro kind of a quiet slow-ish night Facebook's not working for us kind of one of those weird nights but here you are helping us with the conversation and throwing down support for the show and for the channel thank you brother says besides ps two
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: which current Bronco Zach most likely to make the pro football Hall of Fame man.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's a bold question.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's a bold question.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: What do you got, Zach?
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: Bonix.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: Who else can you really assert at this stage in terms of possibilities?
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like even minors.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: You'd have to go on how many all pros and pro bull runs from here on out, tell you, retirees to like even come plus you'd probably have to contribute to one or two super bulls, et cetera.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's got to be bone nicks.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's got directly points out.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Sean Peyton, that's a good shout.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: But okay, let's look past, let's look past bone nicks.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: Miners was my other option in my head that maybe Nick Benito if he goes on to have a Von Miller type career.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: Zoday Barr and if he turns out to be the pick that the Broko's thought he could be.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's tough.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: Besides PSU, there's really not a probable one.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Right now.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: Portland, Portland Sutton.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's way behind the eight ball.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_02]: I was just looking at this.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: I was just looking at this the other day for an article doing some research.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_02]: So we all know who the number one number two career receiving guys are for the Broncos Rod Smith.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, the Marius at two.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_02]: Rod Smith is a well over the ten thousand yard mark at eleven thousand three hundred eighty nine d t checked in just a basically a thousand yard short just over nine thousand from there though in terms of wide receivers it's lineal tailor for yet six he had to six thousand eight hundred seventy two receiving yards McAfrey at McAfrey had sixty two hundred Steve Watson sixty one hundred then you get to vance Johnson fifty six hundred we'll call fifty seven hundred
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: Haven Moses going way back to the seventies and early eighties had fifty four then it to roundouts act the top ten you get a manual Sanders five thousand three hundred sixty one then you get Portland Sutton so in let's see eighteen nineteen twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty four so seven seasons one of which was mostly wiped out due to that injury he's not average in over a thousand he's not on a Hall of Fame track even if from here on out the Broncos become just like
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: you know, perennial playoff contenders.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think there's enough there.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: Fifty-three hundred or yeah.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: Fifty-three hundred careers at receiving yards thirty-two touchdowns.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he needed to start hotter sooner in his career.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's unfortunate that the Broncos couldn't help him out with that.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: But unless they go on to become a dynasty and he has fifteen hundred yards, sixteen hundred yard seasons, I don't think it's something's the pick there.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: So good question though, Mike.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just kind of going through it trying to think of some other options, but I don't know.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's fun to think about.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you again, Mike Todd says, did you see Sean Peyton as a top do you see Sean Peyton as a top five head coach?
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: Or do you think he's top ten at this point and has to win a super bowl in Denver to rank top five?
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, look at the guys.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: Just going off and who's Cody Benjamin like I'm it's not like he's the voice of God or anything right he's just a guy at CBS sports, but since that's kind of the reference point this evening, who were some of the names ahead of them.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: Jim our John harbob both Jim and John, but let's start with John who's ranked third he has one ring just like Sean Peyton does.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he has to win another ring in order to be top-by.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, it felt good to see Sean Peyton ranked as the number two overall returning head coach last for this year's Act from PFF.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: Might be a little high.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: Might be a little high.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_02]: Just all fairness, like you do have to take into consideration, like you mentioned, Zach, the longevity aspect and time.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: How long ahead coach has not only been relevant, but achieving at a high level.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: But you also do have to bring into the equation a little bit of a resency like what have you done lately.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: Sean Peyton is coming off an amazing turnaround year, double digit wins and all that in a playoff season, but you got guys like Nick Seriani who just want a super bowl.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: So how do you how do you split that hair like how do you it's hard to say, but I think Sean Peyton objectively speaking deserves to be viewed as a top five head coach in the NFL.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think I think that's pretty fair at this stage and everything else just comes down to
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: beauty being in the eye of the beholder.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: I just, what did Jim Harbaude do to move the needle though to make a definite bona fide top ten ranking?
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he took an already contending chargers team with a franchise quarterback and they were the same old chargers as they were before him.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: So to answer your question, Todd, it's subjective as they come.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's everyone's opinion.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: My opinion is Sean Payton's a slam dunk.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: No doubt about it top ten had coach in the NFL.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: I also think he's a pretty solid top five.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: The argument as Nas said in the chat starts at top three.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: Is there two other coaches or three other coaches better than Sean Peyton?
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: You can make that case.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a nine or ten other ones better than him?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: agreed.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_02]: And as Nosh says here, Peyton has been a pleasant surprise for me.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_02]: I know he was great in New Orleans, but didn't follow him closely.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: What he's done so far and Denver has been exceptional.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_02]: Now, if he gets this team to the Super Bowl and wins, yeah, we'll look.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: Let me see what Mr. Producer is saying.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, we'll come back to that one second.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_02]: Sean Peyton, when you look at what
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of had to recount some of this so it's pretty fresh on the mind's act and recount some of this stuff in the article I wrote up today.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_02]: covering his ranking on CBS ports list there.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's not just that the ten wins and this snap in the playoff drought, but you know, you snap that ignominious losing streak to the chiefs.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: You want to talk about unprecedented.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_02]: He got that monkey off the franchise's back year one.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: Also, you had a smaller, but really no less ignominious losing streak running with the Raiders.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: He couldn't get it done in year one because Russ, the fumble mice, or general,
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: but he was able to get it done last year and then he swept them.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's great.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: The vision and the wherewithal and the expertise and just the turnaround of the health fortunes, which it's no coincidence that the Broncos go from being one of the most snake bitten teams in the NFL pre-shonpedant to one of the least and all the sudden the wind starts stacking up, right?
- 37:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's not a coincidence.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: So you can go through and list, I mean, the controversial decisions act to higher advanced Joseph in the first place, like you and I didn't love it.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, we were against it knowing who some of the other players out there and possibilities were at the time, but he's been vindicated.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: And it wasn't looking too good for him initially, right?
- 38:01[SPEAKER_02]: With that blowout in Miami.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: And but then they kind of got their act together down the stretch that first year.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_02]: And last year, sixty three sacks, top ten defense, and with now the potential to climb even higher, pretty much every level that you try and analyze Sean Payton's job so far as a head coach of what he's done.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's Chef's Kids type stuff.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: Even the special teams has gotten better under his watch, which has been the Achilles heel for like a decade before him.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I grew with Nosh.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: I knew in New Orleans his thing was offense.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: I knew he was tied to Drew Breeze, but we didn't know that type of coach he was.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's old school.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's a throwback.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's a feel general like Bill Parsell's was his mentor.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: And that I like that, you know, I'm attracted to as someone who covers Sean Peyton.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure the players are attracted to that as someone who plays for Sean Peyton.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: You want to run through a brick wall form, even if he's a little tough on you, and you see the results in the last couple of years, or last year especially.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, no one who has not won a Super Bowl should be rank higher than Sean Payton.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: Jim Harba for example.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, I'm a fan of Harba.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_02]: Remember, when Harba was in the conversation, what was it?
- 39:13[SPEAKER_02]: Was it the same year as Sean Payton or was it what the hack it year?
- 39:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to remember what year that
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: The Broncos talked to him about might have been the same year as Peyton, but he bowed out pretty quickly.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, maybe it was the hack at year dude, actually.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_02]: Either way, it doesn't matter.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: I like Harba, what I'm getting at.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like I would have been excited for Jim Harba, had he been the guy.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: But what's he accomplished in the NFL?
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: He has led very productive teams.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_02]: uh... i would say he's a perennial playoff head coach made it to a super bowl lost to his brother you're going to put him on on top of champagne and a question all right let's uh... come back to this idea of uh... a player on the broncos roster not named ps two with the highest likelihood of all fame my guess the question on super chat and hit he answered his own question he's saying here's my thought but me though because he's young
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: with an all-pro, okay?
- 40:07[SPEAKER_02]: Problem is he's old.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the problem.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_02]: He was old coming in and now he's kind of hitting that productive mode.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's turned a corner.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's pretty old.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: He's twenty-six.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_02]: And he's coming off his first note worthy season, right?
- 40:23[SPEAKER_02]: So keep that in mind.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: But what do your thoughts, Zach, for Benito?
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to believe to get basically a hundred and fifty sacks that career.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: So for what it's worth.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the harbore point.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: I want to belabor for one second in twenty twenty two in the last full season of Brandon Staley.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: They went ten and seven lost in the wildcard round in twenty twenty four.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: They went eleven and six lost in the wildcard round.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what Jim harbore has done in his one year back in the NFL to warrant placement over Sean Peyton, who's one of Super Bowl, but
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of Benito, it is true the age is going to work against him and there's only so many players that go on to have a Vaughan Miller or to Marcus Ware or Julius Pappers to fight free any type career.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: We don't even know Mike if Fabanita is going to be consistent for two years on a row or if last year was a flash on the pan or a fluke, so either Barack was having played him yet or paid him yet, excuse me.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe he has a chance, but I tend to agree with Scott.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, I think times in a work against them in the end.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, check this out real quick.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: You want to talk about the benchmark, a hundred and fifty sacks.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: Von Miller probably won't get to a hundred and fifty, but.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: He'll end up in the Hall of Fame because of his other distinguishing factors.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_02]: The number of accolades, the fact that he contributed to a World Championship and was named as Super Bowl, the Super Bowl, the L.T., the all-time leader in Sachs is Bruce Smith.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: He had two hundred Sachs, dude.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's ridiculous.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: Reggie White is next, two Sachs behind him, one ninety-eight, Kevin Green at one sixty, Julius Peppers,
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: One fifty nine and a half, Chris Dolman, one fifty and a half.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's your top five all-time sack leaders in the NFL.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_02]: And without getting into all the nitty gritty, then it goes straight hand, Jason Taylor, Terrell Suggs, Demarcus where at nine, Richard Dent at ten.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_02]: To even find Vaughn Miller, you have to get all the way to sixteen.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_02]: uh... sixteen his one hundred twenty nine and a half career sacks rinks sixteen all time so i'm not saying it's not possible for nick baneeto my brother and when you're like we say it's kind of hard to pick one on this particular roster because it's so young right you don't have that too many of even semi accomplished guys up to this point that check the boxes but baneeto hey man if you if what we saw last year is the new
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you know, it's the new standard operating procedure.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's the new thing for Benito.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, let's see if you go thirteen and a half.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_02]: You know, if you did that for another ten years, he'd get close to the one fifty mark because he had eight the year prior and I don't know two or three.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: So he'd get pretty dang close if he did what he did last year every single year for nine more years.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_01]: I wish you, I wish you would.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: I wish him the best on that on that expedition, but I don't think it's that likely.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's possible, but as Chad likes to say, I wouldn't wager my mortgage on it.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Bobby Shackbert, not an all-time sack leader, but he does have rings and he is he achieved something von Miller's never achieved.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_02]: He was the sack champion in the NFL one year.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_02]: And that's pretty cool.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of surprising that Vaughn never won the sack title like his best year.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think his career high was twelve, twenty twelve.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_02]: His second year, eighteen and a half, if memory serves.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_02]: Who was the sack leader in, hold on, NFL sack leader, twenty, twenty, twenty.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say it's got to be JJ Watt, y'all, twenty and a half.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: Because what I was originally going to say is, anytime Von started being a guy that could maybe get, it was always JJ Watt, whether it was the sack, crown, or depot.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: Khalil Mac that, I think I was twenty, he lost by one vote.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was to Khalil when he should have won.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, let's see, uh, Colo Mac, twenty sixty, let's just go, twenty sixteen, Colo Mac, he had, uh, sacks, he had, eleven sacks.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: That's not crazy.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: Was that the year?
- 44:38[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I have the year off.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: I do know.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_02]: Let me, let me check the wiki.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_02]: So his defense player the year came, you know, twenty sixteen.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: So what else was special about that year?
- 44:51[SPEAKER_02]: He had an interception or pardon me.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: Pardon me.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he had an interception that he returned for a touchdown.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: We know how impactful that can be, right?
- 44:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's one of the big things that helped.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: build up Nick Benito in the NFL zeitgeist.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see, five forced fumbles, dude.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_02]: Five forced fumbles.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: He recovered three.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: So he stacked up the stats, but from a sack perspective, it was actually, you know, that first few years that he was Uber productive, it was one of his least productive for what it's worth.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: There's basically kind of an average Kaleel Mac year, really, in terms of stats.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: But that was the year you were right that crazy almost a decade ago now.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember much of it except for Vaughan.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know we covered him we're a little biased, but I just felt like he deserved a point that year.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: But so that year, I want to say, fourteen.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: Let me double check, though.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he had fourteen sex, did Vaughan.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_02]: Our pardon me, sixteen yet, thirteen and a half in twenty sixteen.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't have the defensive touch down.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: He only had three force fumbles relative to collale.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_02]: No fumble recoveries.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_02]: So he was a first team all pro made the proble.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_02]: But runner up.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: Deploy.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's a bummer man.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: I always wish Vanka to got that for his resume or the sack, you know, the sack championship or what everyone would call it crown.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: But shack has it is the point, you know.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was his career for sack.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: Todd was eighteen and a half and it's still the Broncos individual franchise record.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_02]: Their previous mark was co-owned by Simon Fletcher and Elvis Deumerville, seventeen sex.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: Crazy Von couldn't get that last vote considering the previous year he was Super Bowl fifty MVP.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: That is, uh, that's true dude.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: And he had more sacks.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Mack.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_02]: Wild.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, yeah, we were talking about this yesterday.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_02]: Todd Facebook's been overrun with garbage AI bots.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_02]: They need to get a handle on, uh,
- 46:57[SPEAKER_02]: on that, hopefully they will here in the near future.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_02]: Zach, let's go through a few parting messages for everybody and I'll take one last look at the chat.

- 48:03[SPEAKER_02]: Just like you.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_02]: So, Nosh jumping in saying here, I watched the Jets Broncos game with Tim Tibo, that game, right?
- 48:11[SPEAKER_02]: Where Rex and Sanchez and uh, uh, twenty- eleven.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_02]: That was Vaughn's Rick year.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: He was unstoppable in that game.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_02]: That was like such an improbable victory for the Broncos, like,
- 48:23[SPEAKER_02]: That was still when, what was it?
- 48:26[SPEAKER_02]: What were the two years for the jets in the AFC Championship game?
- 48:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, nine and ten.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: So this was the tail end.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: They were still relevant.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: But this was kind of the tail end of them given up the ghost on that era in regime.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_02]: But that defense was still very, very good.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: Sanchez was still kind of doing just enough.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_02]: Either way, they reviewed as, you know, they were an AFC championship team from the year prior.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_02]: They were still viewed.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_02]: No way the Broncos could win that nationally televised.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember if it was Sunday night football or Monday night football.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was Sunday night.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_02]: But that winning rush from Tibo at the very end where what he do, like, eighteen yards or whatever, real kind of round about and he gets in there.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_02]: Man, there's so many iconic games from Teebo in twenty eleven and I think most fans could probably.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: Retail almost all of them like from the Miami Dolphins come back his first start that year, which that was honestly one of the most improbable the way they they came back with like two minutes left to go and put two touchdowns on the board of what?
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: It was ridiculous, but um, I don't know how much Zach back then.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: You were paying attention to the Tim Tebow Broncos, but it was a fun time.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_02]: I wish we would have had the livestream pod back then.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: That would have been a fun time to be talking Broncos.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was a Thursday night game, but you're right.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: It was a Thursday night.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_01]: Because I remember it was just one of the ugliest games I had seen to that point from both sides and then Tebow Mania of rain supreme in the end.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: So very exciting finish that I will say.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, dude.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: But Vaughan, yeah, unbelievable.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I think was at that point in the season, not where he was playing with the club.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: He had the injured thumb or whatever it was.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: And so he played a good chunk of his rookie year with a club.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Vaughan, awesome, dude.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_02]: And Tim Teebo.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_02]: Man, thank you.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_02]: Without Tim Tio, you don't get paid in Manning, probably.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: So, stoked on that.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_02]: All right, guys, much love and respect to you.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, face bookers that we couldn't get it to connect tonight.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what that was about.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_02]: Other than it's kind of the same old stuff with Streamyard, all of the things that we can do to make sure our end of things are buttoned up.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: We do every day like it.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_02]: So, it's a weird thing, but a mile high salute.

- 51:06[SPEAKER_02]: We're off till Thursday have a great week everybody and let's hope maybe there's a little bit of news that comes up between now and then let's hope maybe the Broncos get their two rookie signed here pretty soon.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_02]: First and second round pick.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_02]: That'd be nice.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: That would be nice.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_01]: But regardless, everyone have a great rest.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: Your money, great search, your week will see a Thursday night.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_01]: Take care and as always.
