- 0:00Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up, everybody?
- 0:07Speaker 1: Welcome to move the sticks DJ, Buck with you on
- 0:11Speaker 1: a Monday in December, Buck, where the weather is cool.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you, I forgot going to Atlanta.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I don't know why I've got this in my mind
- 0:18Speaker 1: that Atlanta's warm this time. Here off the plane, the
- 0:22Speaker 1: charters are like, whoa, it's football weather out here. I think, God,
- 0:25Speaker 1: this game's endorsed. How you doing, Bud Man?
- 0:28Speaker 3: I am good. It was a great holiday weekend.
- 0:31Speaker 4: It was really watching a bunch of football.
- 0:32Speaker 5: We're going to get into some of the robberies and
- 0:34Speaker 5: college football that showed up and you just love all
- 0:37Speaker 5: of that stuff about college football, but then also some
- 0:40Speaker 5: very compelling NFL games that I think there are a lot.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Of lessons to be learned from those.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt. We're going to get to the NFL
- 0:47Speaker 1: here in a minute. We've got a head coaching change
- 0:50Speaker 1: that we will tackle as well. But I do want
- 0:52Speaker 1: to start with your take on what took place college football.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Over the weekend.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Some crazy games man in saying all the fighting and
- 0:59Speaker 1: the flag and all that stuff that's already been hit
- 1:02Speaker 1: on by every show under the Suns. I don't even
- 1:05Speaker 1: really care about that. We can leave that alone. But
- 1:07Speaker 1: just biggest takeaways. I want to start first of Ohio
- 1:10Speaker 1: State Michigan and let you know how fun it is
- 1:13Speaker 1: to walk into a team meal room and see Jesse
- 1:17Speaker 1: Mentor sitting next to Joey Bosa sitting next to Jim
- 1:20Speaker 1: Harbaugh while Ohio State and Michigan is coming down to
- 1:24Speaker 1: the close. That was I just sat in there. I
- 1:26Speaker 1: wasn't even at some point time, I'm not even watching
- 1:28Speaker 1: the game. I just want to see if there's any
- 1:30Speaker 1: interaction there that was taking place.
- 1:32Speaker 2: But it was a trip.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I think that game.
- 1:35Speaker 5: I think that game captures all of the stuff that
- 1:38Speaker 5: we love about college football. Go to records out two
- 1:41Speaker 5: teams that really don't like each other, like there's a
- 1:43Speaker 5: real rivalry. Anyone who has had an opportunity to go
- 1:45Speaker 5: to that game and to walk into that game in
- 1:48Speaker 5: the field, the disdain that Ohio State fans have for Michigan.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Fans, like that is a real thing.
- 1:53Speaker 5: And then when you go into the stadium and you
- 1:55Speaker 5: feel the energy between the two participants, you know is real.
- 1:59Speaker 4: But to me in spite of all the contentiousness.
- 2:02Speaker 5: The compatitiveness, the acrimony that exists between the two teams.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Styles make fights, and there is a confidence that a
- 2:10Speaker 5: team that prides itself on being the bully always has
- 2:13Speaker 5: when they've had success over a team that Deybut as
- 2:15Speaker 5: a finesse squad, you can talk about being a tough team,
- 2:19Speaker 5: but your actions must match your words, and for the
- 2:21Speaker 5: Michigan Wolverines, their actions match their words, particularly in big games.
- 2:26Speaker 5: They ran the football, they played great defense with Wink Mardell.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Regardless of their quarterback situation, they committed to a style
- 2:33Speaker 5: that is their brand, and over time you could feel
- 2:36Speaker 5: the pressure shift from Michigan to Ohio State.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Why is this game close?
- 2:41Speaker 3: Why are they still here?
- 2:42Speaker 5: They're not supposed to be as good. We're supposed to
- 2:43Speaker 5: walk all over them. Everyone said that we're superior to
- 2:46Speaker 5: this team. But the physicality and toughness never goes out
- 2:50Speaker 5: of style, and their ability to punch for higher state
- 2:53Speaker 5: in the mouth is something that our higher state's gonna
- 2:55Speaker 5: have to deal with for years because there's a confidence
- 2:57Speaker 5: that Michigan has whenever they see a team.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I felt and look our buddy Joe Klatt listened
- 3:04Speaker 1: to the game. I thought he was nailing the central point,
- 3:07Speaker 1: which was Ohio State, Like, why are you playing into
- 3:10Speaker 1: their hands? Like Michigan is missing the corner. Will Johnson's
- 3:14Speaker 1: not playing Loveland, the tight ends not playing. So who
- 3:16Speaker 1: are their best two remaining football players. It's those two
- 3:19Speaker 1: defensive tackles, and you decide you want to get into
- 3:22Speaker 1: a running contest running into their two best players the
- 3:25Speaker 1: entire game. I know Ohio States got backs and against
- 3:28Speaker 1: some teams unleash those backs. Not this one, this one.
- 3:31Speaker 1: They are not good on the outside. I saw Oregon.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I was at the Oregon Michigan game. Oregon carved him up.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Like a turkey.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And I'm sitting here looking at this Ohio State collection
- 3:40Speaker 1: of whiteouts going to nobody's better than these guys, the
- 3:43Speaker 1: best group of whiteouts in the country. That's where this
- 3:45Speaker 1: game needs to be played. It kind of felt like,
- 3:48Speaker 1: I don't know the right way to put it. I
- 3:51Speaker 1: guess we can't say it. I can't say it on here,
- 3:53Speaker 1: but it was like they were trying to measure up
- 3:56Speaker 1: to put it that way in their physical yeah, like
- 4:00Speaker 1: we're just we're going to be tough for th you like, No,
- 4:02Speaker 1: there's other teams will match up and we'll out tough them.
- 4:04Speaker 1: We don't need to out tough Michigan. That's who they are.
- 4:07Speaker 1: We're going to out athlete them as every other team
- 4:09Speaker 1: that's beat them this year is done.
- 4:10Speaker 4: And that's the thing. And so the big thing.
- 4:13Speaker 3: About robbery games and you played in them in college.
- 4:15Speaker 5: I played in them in college, and then the pros like,
- 4:17Speaker 5: the thing that you have to do is you got
- 4:19Speaker 5: to get your pride out of it, and your emotion
- 4:23Speaker 5: has to kind of wave to your execution, meaning execution
- 4:29Speaker 5: is everything. And for Michigan, they were hell bent on
- 4:32Speaker 5: running the football between the tackles. They wanted to shrink
- 4:34Speaker 5: the game, they wanted to get the game on their terms.
- 4:36Speaker 5: And I bet if you asked Sharon Moore before the game,
- 4:39Speaker 5: he would probably tell you, our goal is to get
- 4:41Speaker 5: it to the fourth quarter and make it become a
- 4:43Speaker 5: fifteen minute game because the pressure would jump.
- 4:45Speaker 4: On Ohio State in a major way. And that's what happened.
- 4:49Speaker 5: They were able to control the game, they were able
- 4:51Speaker 5: to get it the game played on.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Their terms, and in the end, when guys needed to
- 4:56Speaker 4: make plays, Michigan made more plays.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Than OURIO State, and you see it on the screen
- 5:01Speaker 1: as we're talking here about the post game drama.
- 5:04Speaker 2: There was plenty of it players.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'm watching it live, and I think those guys got mazed,
- 5:09Speaker 1: like looking at them in like rubbing their eyes and stuff.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I was like, I've never seen anything like That's insane.
- 5:14Speaker 1: That's another topic for another day. I don't know that
- 5:16Speaker 1: that needs to ever get to that point.
- 5:17Speaker 5: That's ridiculous, but I think, but see, and here's here's
- 5:20Speaker 5: what I will say.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Because I love the robbery games, I love all of
- 5:23Speaker 4: that stuff that comes with it. But I also believe
- 5:26Speaker 4: that at some point we're going to.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Have to discuss the sportsmanship element of games, because everyone
- 5:33Speaker 5: wants to see.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Guys like play really hard and then.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Shake hands and those things, and I just don't know
- 5:38Speaker 5: if that is a reality in today's game. And as
- 5:40Speaker 5: much as I want young people to be able to
- 5:42Speaker 5: play and compete at the highest level and compete harder
- 5:45Speaker 5: then shake their hands, I think in some of these
- 5:48Speaker 5: instances we got to wave off the handshake and everyone,
- 5:51Speaker 5: hey man, y'all can come.
- 5:52Speaker 4: To the numbers, wave at each other and then we're out.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Because what I.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Don't want to see is someone seriously get hurt over
- 5:58Speaker 5: something as stupid as flag planning and those things. The
- 6:01Speaker 5: other thing that I would say, when you're to winning team,
- 6:04Speaker 5: hey man, you already know what kind of.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Lightning rod the flag planning is going to bring about.
- 6:10Speaker 4: As the coach, you got to say, hey, guys, knock that.
- 6:12Speaker 5: I we're not doing that, like like, knock it off,
- 6:15Speaker 5: like you just know what you're getting.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Don't don't participate it.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's ridiculous.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And yeah, look I don't mind the woofing in the
- 6:22Speaker 1: bark and all that kind of stuff, but like, yeah,
- 6:24Speaker 1: let's let's let's leave it at that.
- 6:26Speaker 2: And then let's move forward. We don't need any more
- 6:27Speaker 2: than that.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But that was That was the big college football moment
- 6:31Speaker 1: to me of the weekend, even though Texas, Texas, A
- 6:33Speaker 1: and M had the most writing on it in terms
- 6:35Speaker 1: of getting into the SEC championship game and maybe an
- 6:38Speaker 1: elimination game for A and m. Uh just big picture
- 6:42Speaker 1: quickly on that one. I mean, I think it's okay
- 6:45Speaker 1: if we give Sark his flowers to jump into the
- 6:47Speaker 1: big bad SEC and put himself in position to win it.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Year one, I'm gonna say a couple of things about Sark.
- 6:54Speaker 5: I think Sark has probably the perfect pedigree to.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Be a coach that has staying power at the top
- 6:59Speaker 4: of the charts.
- 7:00Speaker 5: His experiences with two guys that are great legendary coaches,
- 7:03Speaker 5: Pete Carroll, who is about the players first, it's fun,
- 7:07Speaker 5: it's dynamic, it's engaging, and then Nick Saban, who is
- 7:11Speaker 5: more buttoned up, more militaristic, but extremely successful. Sark has
- 7:16Speaker 5: been able to take the both take the best things
- 7:19Speaker 5: of each of those programs and use it and blend
- 7:22Speaker 5: it within his own personality to make Texas a monster again.
- 7:26Speaker 5: And when you look at Texas size wise, they stack
- 7:29Speaker 5: up to how Alabama and those teams were at their
- 7:33Speaker 5: heyday on the Nick Saban, but they also have a
- 7:36Speaker 5: fun energy, electricity that reminds you when USC was kind
- 7:40Speaker 5: of like a rock and roll band traveling all over
- 7:42Speaker 5: the country.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Sark has done a great job of putting it together.
- 7:46Speaker 5: And man, I can't wait to see the SEC Championship
- 7:48Speaker 5: game between them and Georgia because Georgia may not be
- 7:52Speaker 5: what they were, but man, their grittiness, their toughness, their competitiveness.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Is going to make it a hard day for Texas.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that was an insane game. Eight overtimes. Sitting there
- 8:04Speaker 1: watching this thing and every time, this will be it,
- 8:06Speaker 1: this will be it, this will be it. And then
- 8:08Speaker 1: both teams just punching back and eventually Georgia outlasts a
- 8:11Speaker 1: very feisty Georgia Tech team. But anyways, a fun, fun
- 8:14Speaker 1: weekend at college football. We get to the NFL side
- 8:16Speaker 1: of things here, Buck, I want to start. First of all,
- 8:18Speaker 1: we're going to roll through these games here Chicago Detroit.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Not so much about the finish of that ball game.
- 8:23Speaker 1: It's been well discussed that just they just massive failure.
- 8:27Speaker 1: And if you want to blame head coach, offensive coordinator, quarterback,
- 8:31Speaker 1: you can probably share that. But unfortunately for Matt Eberflus
- 8:35Speaker 1: was not something he could survive. He gets let go
- 8:37Speaker 1: after their sixth straight loss and many in heartbreaking fashion
- 8:41Speaker 1: during this run here.
- 8:42Speaker 2: But let's look forward.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I saw Kevin Warren, their president, came out and said
- 8:46Speaker 1: this will be the most coveted job. A. You buying that?
- 8:50Speaker 1: And B is there anybody that jumps to mine that
- 8:52Speaker 1: would make sense?
- 8:53Speaker 2: There?
- 8:55Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I think the job is coveted because
- 8:57Speaker 5: it's a bluebood franchise in Chicago. If he brings Chicago back,
- 9:00Speaker 5: you're a legend because they haven't won at a high
- 9:02Speaker 5: level consistently.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Like you would think a franchise that was originated and
- 9:07Speaker 4: created by George Hollis would do.
- 9:09Speaker 5: What you have is you have some intriguing pieces, but
- 9:12Speaker 5: I think you have to build a brand and identity.
- 9:14Speaker 4: And as much as I like Caleb Williams.
- 9:17Speaker 3: And I like the thought of like, oh, we're going
- 9:19Speaker 3: to throw it around.
- 9:19Speaker 5: The yard and we'll build around the franchise quarterback, I
- 9:22Speaker 5: think you can attest to the importance of toughness and
- 9:26Speaker 5: discipline and attention to detail in an organization and team.
- 9:29Speaker 4: To me, I think the candidate.
- 9:30Speaker 5: That everyone is going to chase is Ben Johnson because
- 9:32Speaker 5: you not only want his creativity when it comes to
- 9:35Speaker 5: the offense, you want some of the nuggets that have
- 9:37Speaker 5: been gleaned from his time in Detroit and building a
- 9:40Speaker 5: rough and tumble squad.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Chicago has to be about that. They got to be about.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Toughness and discipline and all of that stuff because that
- 9:47Speaker 5: city is a tough one, and I think the only
- 9:49Speaker 5: way you earn the respect of the city is to
- 9:50Speaker 5: build a franchise and a team that reflects the city.
- 9:53Speaker 4: And some of that has to do with the toughness
- 9:55Speaker 4: and the physicality of that overall team.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean that's why you know, you're to hear
- 10:00Speaker 2: a lot of talk.
- 10:00Speaker 1: You don't get to get an offensive guy to come
- 10:03Speaker 1: in here that's not going to leave, so you can
- 10:06Speaker 1: build a system around Caleb Williams and you're not going
- 10:09Speaker 1: to have the key voice of that system to depart.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I mean, I still think everybody is they do almost
- 10:14Speaker 1: every year. You're trying to chase Sean McVay. I mean,
- 10:16Speaker 1: everybody's trying to find that. A lot of people have
- 10:18Speaker 1: gone to that tree to try and find the next
- 10:20Speaker 1: one because McVeigh has been able to bring you the
- 10:24Speaker 1: innovation and the creativity, the motions, the shifts, the dynamic,
- 10:28Speaker 1: you know, schemes and being on the cutting edge. But
- 10:31Speaker 1: Bucky hasn't lost the physicality of it either. You know,
- 10:34Speaker 1: he's got a physical edge to it.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Now.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I know we'll get to the Rams later and they're
- 10:38Speaker 1: you know, not having the best season, but I think
- 10:41Speaker 1: that's that's kind of what they're they're chasing here. I
- 10:44Speaker 1: will say, you know, find the head coach is going
- 10:47Speaker 1: to be huge, but getting three, at least three upgrades
- 10:51Speaker 1: along that offensive line might be equally as important. And
- 10:53Speaker 1: that's going to be the role for Ryan Poles as
- 10:56Speaker 1: as they announced he's going to be back and kind
- 10:58Speaker 1: of help lead this search for a head coach. But
- 11:00Speaker 1: more importantly, they got to plug some holes on that roster,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and it starts right there with the offensive line.
- 11:05Speaker 4: DJ Here's what I would say if I am the
- 11:07Speaker 4: Chicago Bears.
- 11:07Speaker 5: The first thing that I'm doing is I'm thinking about
- 11:09Speaker 5: how can I build a team to win the division.
- 11:11Speaker 5: When I look at all the teams that are in
- 11:13Speaker 5: the division, all the games are tough physical teams. Yeah,
- 11:16Speaker 5: they're tough, physical teams who are balanced, meaning they can
- 11:19Speaker 5: run the ball, but they also can throw it.
- 11:21Speaker 4: All over the yard and do a bunch of different things.
- 11:23Speaker 5: For me, I will say this, I think Caleb Williams
- 11:26Speaker 5: has to own some of the shortcomings of the offense.
- 11:29Speaker 5: I think some of it falls to the coaches to
- 11:31Speaker 5: make sure that he's in the right system for who
- 11:33Speaker 5: he is. But I also believe that less is more
- 11:36Speaker 5: of when it come to Caleb Williams. They need to
- 11:38Speaker 5: run the football and establish themselves as a physical football
- 11:41Speaker 5: team who have the ability to do both running with
- 11:44Speaker 5: for us and throw it all over the yard, but
- 11:46Speaker 5: efficiency until they become that team, I think Kayla Williams
- 11:50Speaker 5: is going to have a tough time trying.
- 11:51Speaker 4: To single hand and we carry this team to great.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Yeah, no are.
- 11:54Speaker 1: They've seen a lot of good from Caleb, especially in
- 11:55Speaker 1: the second half some of these games and putting them
- 11:57Speaker 1: in a position to have a chance at it. But still,
- 12:01Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot to work on, a lot
- 12:02Speaker 1: to improve there. I think there is something to that
- 12:04Speaker 1: being a coveted job. It'll be fascinating to see what
- 12:06Speaker 1: names emerge and maybe they shock everybody and go back
- 12:09Speaker 1: to the defensive side of the ball. I just I
- 12:11Speaker 1: can't see that happening. The biggest game to me of
- 12:15Speaker 1: the weekend in terms of the result and just styles
- 12:18Speaker 1: make fights. As you always say, Philly in Baltimore.
- 12:21Speaker 2: That was a slug fest. That was you know, that was.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Philly coming off of a game against the Rams in
- 12:28Speaker 1: LA which was a physical game which they beat up
- 12:31Speaker 1: the Rams. The Ravens had a physical game against the
- 12:35Speaker 1: Charters where they you could say they beat up the
- 12:37Speaker 1: Chargers in that game. So heavyweight clash there in Baltimore
- 12:41Speaker 1: and Lo and Behold, the more physical team won the
- 12:44Speaker 1: ball game, and the more physical team was.
- 12:45Speaker 2: The Philadelphia Eagles.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We can talk about justin Tucker and miss kicks, and
- 12:49Speaker 1: that's something they're gonna have to figure out there with
- 12:51Speaker 1: John Harbaugh, because buck, both these teams are, They're massive,
- 12:54Speaker 1: you know, they're physical along the line of scrimmage. I
- 12:56Speaker 1: just thought Philadelphia is more talented along the offensive line
- 12:59Speaker 1: of the defensive line wise, maybe a little bit of
- 13:02Speaker 1: a push coming into the game, but even in this ballgame,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I thought the Eagles defensive front outplayed the Ravens defensive front,
- 13:08Speaker 1: so it was definitely.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Going to be a line of scrimmage game.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And they did not give Lamar Jackson much chance to
- 13:14Speaker 1: breathe back there in the pocket.
- 13:17Speaker 5: What's interesting to me is everyone loves to beat up
- 13:20Speaker 5: on Nick Sirian, but Nick Siriani evidently is a really,
- 13:22Speaker 5: really good coach, so he finds a way to get
- 13:24Speaker 5: it done.
- 13:24Speaker 4: There are a couple of things that stood out to me.
- 13:26Speaker 5: One, how he has built this team back from the
- 13:29Speaker 5: slow start, the challenging star.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Where everyone was really at him about the.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Composition of this team and how he worked with that
- 13:35Speaker 5: relationship with Jalen Hurts and how they subtly have changed
- 13:38Speaker 5: the offense to look more like the offense that made
- 13:40Speaker 5: Jalen Hurs an MVP contender.
- 13:42Speaker 4: When you look at their.
- 13:43Speaker 5: Running game with Kelling Moore and you have kill them
- 13:45Speaker 5: Moore a lot of credit. They are very creative in
- 13:47Speaker 5: their running game, how they run the counter bash schemes,
- 13:50Speaker 5: and how they run power and physical and downhill and
- 13:53Speaker 5: using Saquon and Jalen Hurts as two power runners as
- 13:57Speaker 5: a feature part of this offense is really impressed. But
- 14:00Speaker 5: it's also having the weapons on the outside in place
- 14:03Speaker 5: to make it go when people load it up in
- 14:05Speaker 5: the box. Well constructed offense and then the arrival of
- 14:09Speaker 5: Big Fangio to upgrade the defense, to challenge a talented
- 14:13Speaker 5: collection of players to play better, to be more physical,
- 14:16Speaker 5: to be disciplined. In detail, you're seeing it, and I
- 14:20Speaker 5: know we have fallen in love with the Detroit Lions.
- 14:22Speaker 4: By the end of the season.
- 14:23Speaker 5: Man, we may look up in Philadelphia, the one that
- 14:26Speaker 5: is represented the NFC in the championship game.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you talk about two teams that are
- 14:31Speaker 1: difficult to defend. The Lions. We know with all the
- 14:33Speaker 1: weapons that they have, but I think Jalen hurts in
- 14:35Speaker 1: the quarterback run game and the nightmare that you have
- 14:38Speaker 1: with him and Sakuon Barkley back there. You've got a
- 14:41Speaker 1: big time tight end, You've got the weapons on the outside.
- 14:44Speaker 1: You've got a that both have great offensive lines. They're
- 14:47Speaker 1: big and physical at their nightmare set. The other takeaway
- 14:50Speaker 1: to me on the defensive side of the ball, we've
- 14:52Speaker 1: talked about you know Howie Roseman over the years, he
- 14:55Speaker 1: puts the money in the money positions.
- 14:57Speaker 2: It's a line of scrimmage.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It's quarterback, maybe not some much at running back, maybe
- 15:01Speaker 1: not so much at linebacker. Well, they go out and
- 15:03Speaker 1: they get Sakuon, pay him solid money that's paid off
- 15:06Speaker 1: in a big way. And then how about the value finds.
- 15:08Speaker 1: You get Na Kobe Dean, who was to me was
- 15:11Speaker 1: a big time you know player who fell in their
- 15:14Speaker 1: lap it was a third round. And then Zach Bond
- 15:17Speaker 1: who they didn't have to pay much money to in
- 15:18Speaker 1: free agency. Two guys who are crazily instinctive linebackers who
- 15:23Speaker 1: have just played awesome. They combined for twenty three tackles
- 15:26Speaker 1: in this game. They have gotten much better at those
- 15:30Speaker 1: auxiliary positions, so to speak. We knew they're always going
- 15:32Speaker 1: to be good up front. They've even invested in the
- 15:34Speaker 1: past at corner. They did a big investment at the
- 15:37Speaker 1: corner position in the draft this year, but they've they've
- 15:39Speaker 1: never had a problem paying guys there or investing high picks.
- 15:43Speaker 1: It's really been kind of Okay, Yeah, they're not really
- 15:44Speaker 1: gonna pay the the running back's not really gonna pay
- 15:46Speaker 1: the linebackers for having that philosophy forever. They're pretty darn
- 15:50Speaker 1: good those two positions right now.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Yeah, they are really good.
- 15:53Speaker 4: And look, we dive Harry rosemenislowers a lot.
- 15:58Speaker 5: But as much as we love to pray the Detrait
- 16:00Speaker 5: Lions as the model franchise in terms of how to
- 16:03Speaker 5: build it up, how to make it sustainable, the Philadelphia
- 16:05Speaker 5: Eagles also fall into that category.
- 16:07Speaker 4: They're scrimmage players. Their O line D lines, you can
- 16:10Speaker 4: tell they invest in. You can see the talent because
- 16:12Speaker 4: it's reflected and the way that they.
- 16:13Speaker 5: Dominate at the point of attack, the weapons that they
- 16:16Speaker 5: have around the quarterback. Look, the cost of doing business,
- 16:19Speaker 5: of the cost of doing business, but they have wide
- 16:21Speaker 5: receivers in tow but they still understand that the best
- 16:24Speaker 5: way to play with the quarterback is to use him
- 16:26Speaker 5: as a runner and on certain selected RPOs and all.
- 16:29Speaker 4: That other stuff. So to me is pay what you
- 16:32Speaker 4: need to pay to build a team the way that you.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Need to build it, but play the game the way
- 16:36Speaker 3: they need to play.
- 16:37Speaker 4: It, so your best players.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Can throw well, no doubt.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And as we're looking at the NFC, if we're going
- 16:43Speaker 1: to stay there thinking about the Philadelphia Eagles, another team
- 16:45Speaker 1: that's right, there's the Green Bay Packers coming off that
- 16:48Speaker 1: game against Miami Thanksgiving Night. They've won seven of the
- 16:52Speaker 1: last eight games after two and two. Start the one
- 16:55Speaker 1: I want to hit you on this one with Tucker
- 16:57Speaker 1: Craft six for seventy eight the tight end. He was
- 16:59Speaker 1: their second tight endmember. They took Luke Musgrave in that draft,
- 17:02Speaker 1: then took Tucker Craft. He was six ZHO four six
- 17:05Speaker 1: two fifty four ran four sixty nine. It was one
- 17:07Speaker 1: of the best tight end drafts we've ever seen. It
- 17:09Speaker 1: was stacked at the tight end position.
- 17:11Speaker 4: I was.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I looked at back up.
- 17:12Speaker 1: He was my fifty sixth player buck They got him
- 17:15Speaker 1: with the seventy eighth pick. It's another reminder of why
- 17:18Speaker 1: it's smart and a deep beer like that to double up,
- 17:21Speaker 1: because if you stick by best player available, you're going
- 17:24Speaker 1: to double up when you have those years where you
- 17:26Speaker 1: have a loaded class at one position and they're rewarded
- 17:30Speaker 1: for going back into that pool.
- 17:31Speaker 3: DJ.
- 17:31Speaker 4: You can never go wrong taking good players. And I
- 17:34Speaker 4: know a lot of times we talked about positions and
- 17:36Speaker 4: those things.
- 17:36Speaker 5: And people don't like the BPA theory, right, best player available, Yeah,
- 17:40Speaker 5: but it doesn't fit.
- 17:41Speaker 4: But when you take good players, you find a way
- 17:43Speaker 4: to utilize them, and sometimes you put it on the coaches.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Let's find a way to make sure that we take
- 17:46Speaker 4: advantage of what we have. When it comes to the talent, the.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Green Bay Packers have a Simwhatar roster is really really talented,
- 17:52Speaker 5: and it's talented because they believe in their draft and
- 17:54Speaker 5: develop approach and it has worked for them for years
- 17:58Speaker 5: to continue to work for them, and they been able
- 18:00Speaker 5: to supplement it with key free agents of Josh Jacobs
- 18:03Speaker 5: and some of the other.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Guys that have come on board.
- 18:05Speaker 5: But really the nuts and bolts of this team home
- 18:08Speaker 5: grown players that are drafted under.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Their principle, and we're gonna draft the best player.
- 18:12Speaker 3: We're going to develop them.
- 18:12Speaker 4: We can put them on the field, and we're unafraid
- 18:16Speaker 4: to live through their mistakes because we understand what it is.
- 18:19Speaker 5: We're going to be better in the long run when
- 18:21Speaker 5: we take this approach, particularly in a small market like Greenback.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's it's also sends a message that hey,
- 18:27Speaker 1: don't nobody get comfortable now. I don't care if I
- 18:30Speaker 1: took you in the first round. I don't care if
- 18:31Speaker 1: I paid you in free agency. We're going to keep
- 18:34Speaker 1: adding talented players at your position. It breeds competition. They
- 18:38Speaker 1: have that at a lot of positions. This is a
- 18:40Speaker 1: really deep roster that Brian Gudikins is built there. So look,
- 18:44Speaker 1: I give him, I give them their love here. They're
- 18:46Speaker 1: sitting here at nine and three. They're right in the
- 18:48Speaker 1: mix to go chase a conference championship. So it's a
- 18:52Speaker 1: it's an impressive job there. I do want to say
- 18:54Speaker 1: Tua for going into that environment.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Buck.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I thought he played well. They're five and seven right now.
- 19:00Speaker 1: They're going to need to get on a pretty big
- 19:02Speaker 1: run to try and backdoor their way into the playoffs.
- 19:05Speaker 1: But they are still alive here at five and seven.
- 19:09Speaker 5: Yeah, it's still alive. I think some of the things
- 19:11Speaker 5: that you worry about with two incode, whether it shows up.
- 19:13Speaker 5: It's hard for a guy who doesn't have what I
- 19:16Speaker 5: called superior arm talent, a plus arm talent sometimes to
- 19:19Speaker 5: play in inclement a windy conditions. But it does a
- 19:22Speaker 5: really good job of working inside the numbers and in
- 19:25Speaker 5: that game, it's a lot of short intermediate inbreaking routes
- 19:28Speaker 5: that he was able to utilize. They have to figure
- 19:31Speaker 5: out knowing how the team is constructed, how their quarterback
- 19:34Speaker 5: prefers to play. To me, it's about them understanding how
- 19:38Speaker 5: they need to build the team and how they.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Need to set it up, and it comes to winning
- 19:41Speaker 4: their schedule so.
- 19:42Speaker 5: They get home games. Because where Hiss Greate as too,
- 19:45Speaker 5: it is directing this offense. He's a different player when
- 19:48Speaker 5: he has to play in the cold.
- 19:49Speaker 3: And you don't want to.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Play those cold games in the playoffs.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah no, well, at first, you don't want to play
- 19:56Speaker 1: cold games in the playoffs. But this Dolphins team, they
- 19:58Speaker 1: just want to get to the playoffs. Buffalo Bills just
- 20:07Speaker 1: trounced the forty nine ers. I don't say we put
- 20:09Speaker 1: a nail in their coffin because that division still hasn't
- 20:13Speaker 1: really completely run away from them, but you've got a
- 20:15Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey injury. It feels like, you tell me there's
- 20:22Speaker 1: no excuses for Buffalo not to come out of the
- 20:23Speaker 1: AFC this year. Like it's all lined up for him
- 20:26Speaker 1: right now, even if they have to go on the
- 20:28Speaker 1: road to Kansas City. How those team's built, what Kansas
- 20:31Speaker 1: City looks like. Even though they're winning ballgames, this feels
- 20:34Speaker 1: like it's now or never for Buffalo.
- 20:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I think there's urgency that they're playing with Seohn
- 20:39Speaker 5: mcdummot has done a really good job.
- 20:40Speaker 4: I remember DJ coming into it. Many of us, I mean,
- 20:44Speaker 4: I for sure thought that they were going to take
- 20:46Speaker 4: a step back.
- 20:46Speaker 5: I didn't think that they would be in the conversation
- 20:48Speaker 5: as the team to beat in the AFC.
- 20:50Speaker 4: But that's where they are. This is a team that
- 20:52Speaker 4: has an urgency and energy about them.
- 20:55Speaker 5: They're feisty, they're competitive, and they're well constructed. They are
- 20:59Speaker 5: fun because.
- 21:00Speaker 3: DJ, they don't have what we would call like.
- 21:03Speaker 4: A bunch of blues, a bunch of A level players,
- 21:06Speaker 4: but man, they got a collection of b's and b
- 21:08Speaker 4: pluses that play to the max. And with Josh Allen
- 21:11Speaker 4: playing at an MVP level.
- 21:13Speaker 5: This team can knock off anybody. And what is great
- 21:16Speaker 5: about what Josh Allen has done. He's mature to the
- 21:19Speaker 5: point that he understands how to kind of toe that
- 21:21Speaker 5: line between game manager and playmaker and when to kind
- 21:25Speaker 5: of throw his body in harm's way and when.
- 21:28Speaker 4: To play it kind of straight and conservative. It's really
- 21:30Speaker 4: worked out for his outum.
- 21:32Speaker 1: There's been years in the past where I feel like
- 21:35Speaker 1: Josh has got beat up, you know, towards the end
- 21:38Speaker 1: of the regular season and wasn't quite one hundred percent,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you know, with his legs. He's got six rushing touchdowns
- 21:44Speaker 1: this year. I went back and watched all of them.
- 21:46Speaker 1: So you got two on zone reads, you got three
- 21:47Speaker 1: on scrambles, you got one on a sneak. For a
- 21:50Speaker 1: team that you can talk about maybe not the most
- 21:52Speaker 1: dynamic skill positions, it's high school football. He's the X
- 21:56Speaker 1: factor with what he can do with his legs. And
- 21:58Speaker 1: that's why I'm just like, man, Okay, you clinched the division,
- 22:02Speaker 1: your fifth consecutive AFC East Crown here.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I don't think it.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Matters with this team how they're built, whether you're out,
- 22:08Speaker 1: you're at home, or on the road. And I'm not
- 22:10Speaker 1: saying you can't. You can't shut it down, you know,
- 22:12Speaker 1: shut it down, shut it down. But man, just keep
- 22:15Speaker 1: Josh Allen healthy. Tell him we don't need you to
- 22:17Speaker 1: be Superman down the stretch here we punched our ticket.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I need you to be one hundred percent because if
- 22:23Speaker 1: Josh Allen is one hundred percent healthy bucket, he just
- 22:26Speaker 1: unleashes his athleticism. You know, as you a high school
- 22:29Speaker 1: coach have seen when you've got the biggest, baddest nude
- 22:32Speaker 1: on your team like that, to me is the most
- 22:34Speaker 1: important thing. If they get Josh Allen healthy going into
- 22:37Speaker 1: the playoffs and he can be aggressive and run, you know,
- 22:40Speaker 1: eight to twelve times a game like he's a high
- 22:43Speaker 1: school quarterback, they're going to be a very tough out man.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Well, the beautiful thing about the way Josh Allen plays
- 22:48Speaker 5: and the way that Joe Brady's calling the game, you
- 22:50Speaker 5: can control and dictate how many times he touches the
- 22:53Speaker 5: ball on.
- 22:54Speaker 3: The perimeter as a runner.
- 22:56Speaker 5: You can tell them to take a little more conservative approach.
- 22:58Speaker 5: And I think he has kind of learned when to
- 23:01Speaker 5: insert himself into the game. Normally, D day when you
- 23:03Speaker 5: really watch him run. He runs it in third critical situations,
- 23:06Speaker 5: two minute drills.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Red zone, red zone like he doesn't.
- 23:10Speaker 5: He's not recklessly just kind of running around at all times.
- 23:13Speaker 5: He picks and chooses his thing, which is very similar
- 23:17Speaker 5: to the way that Pat Mahomes uses his legs when
- 23:20Speaker 5: it comes to scrambling and buying time and doing those things.
- 23:23Speaker 4: As these guys get.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Older as mobile quarterbacks, they kind of understand when they
- 23:28Speaker 5: kind of use that part of their superpowers to help
- 23:31Speaker 5: their team staying games and win games.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they've done a good job of picking
- 23:35Speaker 1: your spots, but I think you also understand volume wise,
- 23:37Speaker 1: we get into the playoffs, we can step that up
- 23:40Speaker 1: a little bit more. And I just feel like that
- 23:41Speaker 1: Josh Allen with his legs has got to be a
- 23:43Speaker 1: big part of this Buffalo offense for them to go
- 23:45Speaker 1: chase the title, which it's all right there for him,
- 23:47Speaker 1: It is set up for him. This is their time.
- 23:49Speaker 1: They need to go get it done this year. Another
- 23:52Speaker 1: team that's right in the mix with him, though, Buck
- 23:54Speaker 1: Pittsburgh just keeps rolling. They find different ways to win
- 23:57Speaker 1: ball games. Russell Wilson goes for four to fourteen three
- 24:00Speaker 1: touchdowns and a pick. In this ballgame, Cam Hayward got
- 24:03Speaker 1: a sack. That's his sixth sack this year. He's thirty
- 24:06Speaker 1: five years old. So my saucy nug is that is
- 24:09Speaker 1: a sneaky position that can age well. I think of
- 24:12Speaker 1: defensive tackles, guys like Ted Washington, I think of Kalais Campbell,
- 24:16Speaker 1: who's still going Cam Hayward's still playing at a high level.
- 24:19Speaker 1: We think of like, okay, quarterbacks, kickers, they can play
- 24:22Speaker 1: a long time. You age out of obviously running back
- 24:24Speaker 1: very early. Receiver seems to be about age thirty even
- 24:28Speaker 1: edgdreshers as you maybe lose a little bit of juice.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Defensive tackles, Surprisingly, some of these big time defensive tackles
- 24:34Speaker 1: aged quite well.
- 24:36Speaker 5: D You know why because about toughness and technique at
- 24:39Speaker 5: that position. Tough guys can hold a point namek or
- 24:42Speaker 5: hit the nose tackles technique. Guys can use their hands
- 24:45Speaker 5: and whip as we talk about like the tomato can
- 24:48Speaker 5: on the inside. Ye have that kind of production. You're
- 24:51Speaker 5: right when you think about some of the guys who
- 24:53Speaker 5: played a long time at the position to Ted Washington's
- 24:55Speaker 5: of the world, Yeah, they were older guys but man,
- 24:58Speaker 5: their strength, the building, the kind of controller at the
- 25:01Speaker 5: point of attack. I think about bench Willfork and what
- 25:03Speaker 5: he was able to do. Uh, there is something to that. Indeed,
- 25:07Speaker 5: get that experience. That experience matters. And we've talked about it,
- 25:11Speaker 5: and we've talked about it in baseball terms before about
- 25:13Speaker 5: being strong right down the middle. It always applies in
- 25:16Speaker 5: football too, having that that gray beard in the middle,
- 25:20Speaker 5: whether it's a nose tackle, linebacker, free safety. The intelligence,
- 25:25Speaker 5: the experience, the instincts, those things matter.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I think we're seeing there with Cam.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Hayward anything quickly.
- 25:32Speaker 1: On the Cincinnati side of it, Man, they score bazillion
- 25:34Speaker 1: points and lose again.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Yeah, just don't have the defensive personnel to be able
- 25:38Speaker 4: to compete. I love Joe Burr and what Joe Burr
- 25:40Speaker 4: has been able to do.
- 25:41Speaker 5: But it just they're not able to compliment what they
- 25:44Speaker 5: do offensively with their defense. And I'll say this, man,
- 25:47Speaker 5: they give away too many games at the beginning of
- 25:49Speaker 5: the year.
- 25:49Speaker 4: We've talked about Andy Reid and how Andy Reid.
- 25:51Speaker 5: And those guys jump out ahead of the group. You know,
- 25:54Speaker 5: they win those early games.
- 25:55Speaker 4: And so they don't have to kind of scuffle and
- 25:57Speaker 4: scrape to get into the postseason. The Bengals havent giving
- 26:00Speaker 4: away games the first month of the season, and I
- 26:03Speaker 4: feel they they spend their time in chase mode where
- 26:06Speaker 4: they should be trying to win a division in those
- 26:09Speaker 4: things with the talent that they have on the ross.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 1: No, what a disappointing year for the Cincinnati Bengals. There's
- 26:15Speaker 1: no doubt about it. Let's get to Minnesota Arizona. This
- 26:18Speaker 1: is a close game, comeback win. I had this thought.
- 26:21Speaker 1: I looked this up and this is my takeaway in
- 26:23Speaker 1: this game. I'm curious to see not only how Minnesota
- 26:25Speaker 1: finishes the year ten and two having a phenomenal year,
- 26:28Speaker 1: but where is this going the off season. Let's get
- 26:30Speaker 1: ahead of ourselves just for one second. They draft a
- 26:33Speaker 1: quarterback JJ McCarthy's. He gets hurt, so he's on the shelf.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Not going to see him at all this year. Sam Donald,
- 26:37Speaker 1: you have the keys to the car. Sam Donald's having
- 26:40Speaker 1: a great year. Let me give you the numbers he's
- 26:42Speaker 1: projected for. He's on pace four right now, Buck, you're ready.
- 26:45Speaker 1: He's on pace for forty one eighty two yards. He's
- 26:49Speaker 1: completed sixty seven point six percent of his passes, So
- 26:52Speaker 1: that's the completion percentage, that's the yardage. I went back
- 26:55Speaker 1: and looked up Alex Smith. Right, you draft Patrick Mahomes,
- 26:59Speaker 1: but we're going to be paid and we're gonna sit
- 27:00Speaker 1: him behind Alex Smith. Alex Smith that year, Alex Smith
- 27:04Speaker 1: threw for four forty two yards sixty seven point five percent,
- 27:08Speaker 1: So just literally almost identical numbers to what Sam did.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Sam's on pace for thirty three touchdowns, fourteen picks. Alex
- 27:15Speaker 1: Smith twenty six and five in that year. So Sam's
- 27:20Speaker 1: having this year which is incredible, and there's part of
- 27:22Speaker 1: me just sitting here going like, well, you can't let
- 27:25Speaker 1: him walk. I know you drafted another quarterback, but he's
- 27:27Speaker 1: playing at this high of a level. It's going to
- 27:29Speaker 1: be fascinating to see if they believe JJ McCarthy has
- 27:32Speaker 1: another gear. Obviously the Chiefs believe that Mahomes had another gear,
- 27:36Speaker 1: and they were approved, right because in a year where
- 27:39Speaker 1: the draft doesn't look great at quarterback, man Sam Darnold
- 27:43Speaker 1: in a you know, if you were to tag and
- 27:45Speaker 1: trade him, you'd have a heck of an asset there too. So, man,
- 27:49Speaker 1: that is just forecasting into the offseason. One of the
- 27:51Speaker 1: fascinating decisions that's going to be forthcoming.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Let's add to it, right, So Daniel Jones signs with
- 27:56Speaker 4: the private squad to be around with Kevin O'Connell and
- 28:00Speaker 4: with the Minnesota Vikings for the rest of the year.
- 28:02Speaker 4: It gives Kevin O'Connell and the front office an.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Opportunity to look at Daniel Jones to see where he is,
- 28:07Speaker 5: to kind of wagh the pros and cons of where
- 28:09Speaker 5: that he is a reclamation project that they can give
- 28:12Speaker 5: the Sam Donald blueprint and utilize him while JJ McCarthy
- 28:16Speaker 5: is continuing to develop as they auction off Sam Donald
- 28:20Speaker 5: for some more picks.
- 28:21Speaker 4: That's why it was such a wise move for them
- 28:23Speaker 4: to get.
- 28:23Speaker 5: In on Daniel Jones, for Kevin McConnell's to kind of
- 28:26Speaker 5: just throw verbal bouquets in Daniel Jones direction because it's
- 28:30Speaker 5: another chip man, it's another pawn on the chessboard, that
- 28:34Speaker 5: another piece that they can use to help this team
- 28:36Speaker 5: have staying power at the top of the division or
- 28:39Speaker 5: at the top of the industry.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Well, well, it's a big win for the Minnesota Vikings,
- 28:43Speaker 1: comeback win. It's a really complete football team. Arizona six
- 28:47Speaker 1: and six they're still right in the mix, just behind
- 28:49Speaker 1: the team we're going to talk about next here. That's Seattle.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Big comeback win for the Seahawks against the Jets. Jets
- 28:55Speaker 1: had them dead to rights. Then Seattle. Leonard Williams has
- 28:58Speaker 1: been playing lights out out man. He's been awesome in
- 29:01Speaker 1: the last few weeks. His tape last week was fun
- 29:03Speaker 1: to watch. I'm excited to get a chance to really
- 29:05Speaker 1: dig in and watch the cutups in this one because
- 29:08Speaker 1: some of the highlights right here, what he just did
- 29:09Speaker 1: to John Simpson is ridiculous. And then you look at
- 29:13Speaker 1: the pick six. He was all over the field. Man
- 29:15Speaker 1: all over the field for LARRYN Williams. So big win
- 29:18Speaker 1: for the Seattle Seahawks. JSN four for seventy four. He's
- 29:22Speaker 1: got seventy catches over eight hundred yards and four touchdowns.
- 29:26Speaker 1: What a heck of a year for him so far
- 29:27Speaker 1: as well.
- 29:28Speaker 5: Yeah, really good break I mean, really impressive breakout season
- 29:31Speaker 5: for JSN as a slot receiver because he's doing most
- 29:33Speaker 5: of his damage from the slat.
- 29:34Speaker 4: We talked about him.
- 29:35Speaker 3: He was a great route runner.
- 29:36Speaker 5: He's another one of those skill pass catches that we
- 29:39Speaker 5: have seen have a lot.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Of success in the league.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Love all of that.
- 29:43Speaker 4: What I really like about the Seattle Seahawks.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Team is I feel like they are.
- 29:47Speaker 5: They built upon the legacy of Pete Carrolyn what they
- 29:49Speaker 5: did there, but they've done it in a different way.
- 29:52Speaker 4: Me.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Pete Carroll and those guys are really good at developing players,
- 29:55Speaker 3: really good.
- 29:55Speaker 5: At taking chances on players and having putting them in
- 29:57Speaker 5: spots where it worked out.
- 29:59Speaker 4: I think you have.
- 30:00Speaker 5: All of that same developmental approach with a more structured, discipline,
- 30:06Speaker 5: detailed leader and Mike McDonald and as they're kind of
- 30:10Speaker 5: embracing his style and listening to Jared Reed and some
- 30:13Speaker 5: of the other players talked about how they needed a
- 30:15Speaker 5: little more structure.
- 30:17Speaker 4: To me, John Snyder.
- 30:18Speaker 5: Really did a great job of picking a head coach
- 30:20Speaker 5: that could take the program to the next step. Mike
- 30:23Speaker 5: McDonald appears to have the potential to take this program,
- 30:27Speaker 5: this organization, this team to the next level, just based
- 30:30Speaker 5: on what he asked of the team as a coach
- 30:32Speaker 5: and leader.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I like watching them, man, They're fast, they play hard,
- 30:36Speaker 1: they're physical. It's been fun to watch this entire really
- 30:40Speaker 1: team come together in JSN having a phenomenal campaign there,
- 30:44Speaker 1: reaching his potential as well. All right, staying in the
- 30:47Speaker 1: NFC Rams Saints. The Rams just one game back, big
- 30:52Speaker 1: win for them against the New Orleans Saints, who are
- 30:54Speaker 1: just kind of you know, they're hanging around. They're in
- 30:57Speaker 1: these games, but they're four and eight, not really going anywhere,
- 31:00Speaker 1: and that I don't want to say it this way,
- 31:03Speaker 1: but they just feel like they could be stuck in
- 31:05Speaker 1: there not going to be terrible, not going to be
- 31:07Speaker 1: good world. They could be stuck in that world for
- 31:11Speaker 1: a few years, especially as they try and navigate some
- 31:13Speaker 1: salary cap stuff going forward.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Yeah, no one wants to be in that world. It's
- 31:17Speaker 4: like the worst place to be.
- 31:18Speaker 5: You're not bad enough to benefit from being a bad
- 31:21Speaker 5: team to get a top pick that can can't help
- 31:23Speaker 5: you flip the roster. You're not good enough to compete
- 31:25Speaker 5: and be a serious contender in the postseason, so you're
- 31:28Speaker 5: right around average. And when you look at this team,
- 31:31Speaker 5: you just think about where they need to improve. Man,
- 31:33Speaker 5: there's so many pieces that they need to add to
- 31:37Speaker 5: be one of those teams that compete with the emerging
- 31:40Speaker 5: teams in the NFC. The best thing that probably could
- 31:43Speaker 5: happen for the Saint is that it kind of falls
- 31:47Speaker 5: apart down the stretch. They're able to get into the
- 31:49Speaker 5: top ten, top five of a pick, and they're able
- 31:52Speaker 5: to start the rebooting process of this team, because no
- 31:55Speaker 5: matter who becomes a coach, they're going to have to
- 31:58Speaker 5: blow this thing up a little bit to build it
- 32:01Speaker 5: good from the ground up.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 1: No, it's interesting to see how they go forward the
- 32:06Speaker 1: RAMS side of things. They've got Buffalo at home this week.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Massive game, Massive game. They were a little bit short
- 32:13Speaker 1: against the heavyweight against the Philadelphia Eagles. They go win
- 32:16Speaker 1: on the road, big win over the Saints. But now
- 32:18Speaker 1: you come home and you got a big heavyweight coming
- 32:21Speaker 1: in Buffalo.
- 32:21Speaker 2: So that's going to be a challenge.
- 32:23Speaker 1: And if you thought the Philadelphia Eagles took over that
- 32:25Speaker 1: stadium way do you see Bill's Mafia. That's gonna be
- 32:28Speaker 1: a home game for them. So it's gonna be a
- 32:30Speaker 1: big test. Next week will be big for the Rams.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Theory on this next one, Tampa Bay Carolina, we've seen
- 32:37Speaker 1: and this was a game Tampa Bay. Give them their flowers.
- 32:39Speaker 1: They won the ball game, they get back to six
- 32:41Speaker 1: and six, it's an overtime win. But I want to
- 32:44Speaker 1: hit Bryce Young on this one. A fourth quarter comeback.
- 32:47Speaker 1: He made some big throws. You're seeing him get better
- 32:50Speaker 1: and better and better, and I thought, this is my takeaway.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Remember Drew Brees early on in his career, and I'm
- 32:57Speaker 1: not saying Bryce young as Drew Brees, but it took
- 32:59Speaker 1: a minute, right. He didn't just launch right into the NFL.
- 33:03Speaker 1: And the reason being is it's not There's a difference
- 33:06Speaker 1: between the physically gifted, who you know can get out
- 33:10Speaker 1: there and do things physically and that buys them time
- 33:14Speaker 1: while they're trying to learn. Then there's guys like Bryce
- 33:17Speaker 1: and he will put him in the category of Drew
- 33:19Speaker 1: Brees as guys that rely on mastery more than the
- 33:23Speaker 1: physical gifts. So you give a guy who's not as
- 33:27Speaker 1: physically gifted more time to become a master in his offense.
- 33:32Speaker 1: The understandings there. You saw it when I watched this
- 33:34Speaker 1: game and watch this tape this morning. The anticipation was excellent,
- 33:38Speaker 1: the timing was there. He was able to fit some
- 33:40Speaker 1: balls in. Because of that, I think it's maybe it
- 33:43Speaker 1: requires just more patience when you got guys who are
- 33:46Speaker 1: going to rely on mastery over physicalities.
- 33:48Speaker 2: What I'm getting at, Let's.
- 33:50Speaker 5: Say we started putting prospects into the two different buckets.
- 33:54Speaker 4: When it comes to quarterback, we have the talented ones
- 33:57Speaker 4: and then we have the technical one.
- 33:59Speaker 5: Right relative technic the technical category. Everything has to be
- 34:03Speaker 5: lined up. Footwork, mechanics, understanding of the system has to
- 34:07Speaker 5: be right for him to play at a high level.
- 34:09Speaker 5: When you talk about Drew Brees, that's how Drew Brees
- 34:12Speaker 5: strikes me. And it took and people forgive this. It
- 34:14Speaker 5: took Drew Brees having Philip Rivers right on his bumper
- 34:18Speaker 5: before he became the Pro Bowl player that he became.
- 34:21Speaker 5: It took Bryce Young having to sit down before he
- 34:24Speaker 5: was able to kind of.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Find his way in those things. The other thing that
- 34:28Speaker 4: I believe is underrated.
- 34:29Speaker 3: If you go back and look at Bryce Young's.
- 34:30Speaker 5: History went all the way back to high school DJ.
- 34:33Speaker 5: This is the first time that he's ever had on
- 34:34Speaker 5: field adversity. Everything was easy for him and it's not
- 34:38Speaker 5: his fault. But look, he was a great player at
- 34:39Speaker 5: modern Day High school in Santa Anna won a Ton
- 34:42Speaker 5: went to Alabama one a ton great player. This is
- 34:45Speaker 5: the first time between the lines he's been dealt the
- 34:48Speaker 5: short end of the stick. He has a short deck
- 34:51Speaker 5: when it comes to the cards. He's learning and showing
- 34:54Speaker 5: that he has the toughness and the resilience to bounce back.
- 34:58Speaker 5: The Carolina Panthers have one and lo Man, I think
- 35:01Speaker 5: they would regret pulling the plug on him. I think
- 35:04Speaker 5: he's shown enough that someone would take him and hit
- 35:07Speaker 5: his game, go to the next level with more time
- 35:09Speaker 5: and experience.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Who are they finding better than him right now? I
- 35:12Speaker 1: don't see one out there. Man, He's shown plenty to
- 35:15Speaker 1: me that you need to again swing your support behind him.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Get some more guys that can catch some football. For
- 35:20Speaker 1: crying out loud, I mean every time you watch him,
- 35:22Speaker 1: I feel like there's a big drop in every single
- 35:24Speaker 1: one of these games.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Drew Brees.
- 35:25Speaker 1: To wrap that up, by the way, to put a
- 35:27Speaker 1: pin in this as we look forward. Drew Brees twenty
- 35:32Speaker 1: eight touchdowns thirty one interceptions in his first two years
- 35:35Speaker 1: as an NFL starting quarterback. Well Buck, Max Crosby, Brock
- 35:46Speaker 1: Bauers and the Las Vegas Raiders they always played the
- 35:48Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs tough almost got him again on this one.
- 35:52Speaker 1: The Chiefs, they get away with it. They win nineteen
- 35:54Speaker 1: to seventeen on a snap that came a little earlier
- 35:57Speaker 1: than nade O'Connell was expecting. Low and behold here the
- 36:00Speaker 1: Chiefs are. They clinch a playoff berth for the tenth
- 36:03Speaker 1: consecutive season. I'm trying to be balanced here and respectful
- 36:06Speaker 1: of an eleven and one football team while also not
- 36:09Speaker 1: ignoring what my eyes are telling me, which is this
- 36:11Speaker 1: is a vulnerable team in Kansas City.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Yeah, a vulnerable team and sometimes DJ you see this
- 36:17Speaker 4: with championship.
- 36:18Speaker 5: Teams, like they're able to win even after they're out
- 36:21Speaker 5: of their window or.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Out of their prime.
- 36:23Speaker 5: And what the Chiefs have is they have a toughness
- 36:25Speaker 5: and they know how of how to win these close games.
- 36:28Speaker 5: And when you have Pat Mahomes, who is the ultimate eracer,
- 36:31Speaker 5: you can win some of those.
- 36:32Speaker 4: To me, what I see from the Chiefs is a.
- 36:34Speaker 5: Team that is kind of coming together on offense, DeAndre
- 36:37Speaker 5: Hopkins coming over to be the compliment to Travis Kelce
- 36:40Speaker 5: Isaia for Checko coming back. The main issue that they
- 36:44Speaker 5: have is they can't block at the point of attack.
- 36:45Speaker 5: Their offensive tackle situation is one of the worst that
- 36:48Speaker 5: we've seen in football. And until they're able to solve that, yeah,
- 36:52Speaker 5: it's gonna be hard for the Chiefs to play that
- 36:55Speaker 5: we're accustomed to them playing because they simply can't protect
- 36:58Speaker 5: number fifteen in the pocket.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Scared to do it with the Chiefs. But man, this
- 37:03Speaker 1: reminds me a lot of that Philly team. It was
- 37:05Speaker 1: last year right where Philly gets off to that unbelievable record,
- 37:09Speaker 1: but people just weren't buying it. And now I look
- 37:11Speaker 1: at the schedule the Kansas City Chiefs. Their last five games,
- 37:15Speaker 1: they play four teams who would be in the playoffs
- 37:16Speaker 1: if the season, and today they got four tough games
- 37:19Speaker 1: coming up on their next five.
- 37:21Speaker 2: What did shocked you at all?
- 37:22Speaker 1: If Kansas City were to lose two or three of
- 37:24Speaker 1: these games coming down the stretch of that, there's such
- 37:27Speaker 1: a razor thin margin right now.
- 37:29Speaker 5: I mean, look, they living dangerously for sure, Like you
- 37:32Speaker 5: can't win fourteenth straight one score games the way that
- 37:34Speaker 5: they're doing block and field goals, finding ways for people
- 37:37Speaker 5: to drop snaps and snaps and all of the other stuff.
- 37:40Speaker 3: But I am hoping when I look at the team,
- 37:42Speaker 3: and when I.
- 37:42Speaker 5: Watch the game on Friday, it was really them leaning
- 37:46Speaker 5: on the vets, Kelsey Hopkins trying.
- 37:48Speaker 3: To get as there for Checko going and then the
- 37:50Speaker 3: magic that Pat.
- 37:50Speaker 5: Mahomes has is different, and it's going to be a
- 37:52Speaker 5: harder run for this team in the postseason.
- 37:55Speaker 4: Not quite ready to pour dirt on them. They're vulnerable
- 37:58Speaker 4: for sure.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I'm gonna see him next week going there
- 38:01Speaker 1: with the Chargers. Chargers coming off a big win against
- 38:04Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons. How's this for a saucy neg buck.
- 38:08Speaker 1: It's the lowest yards, the fewest amount of yards the
- 38:11Speaker 1: Chargers have had in a road win since nineteen sixty,
- 38:14Speaker 1: so the offense did next to nothing.
- 38:15Speaker 2: They get a pick six.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Tarheeb still fifth round pick out at a Maryland corner,
- 38:20Speaker 1: has two picks, including that pick six. Marcus May has
- 38:23Speaker 1: a pick after showing up this week. Tony Jefferson, who
- 38:26Speaker 1: had been scouting for the Ravens a couple of years ago,
- 38:29Speaker 1: he comes off to practice squad. He has a bunch
- 38:32Speaker 1: of tackles. Troyde gets in there and plays well at
- 38:35Speaker 1: the linebacker spot when you have no paramount, so a
- 38:38Speaker 1: lot of Joe Hortiz's moves they pay off and a
- 38:41Speaker 1: win over Atlanta where Kirk Cousins not good, let's just
- 38:44Speaker 1: put it that way.
- 38:45Speaker 5: With four picks, Yeah, not good, And I guess you
- 38:48Speaker 5: probably went the booth saying game for he's a.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Jolly good fellow, and no one can deny they got a.
- 38:52Speaker 5: Really good job of getting guys to buy in. And
- 38:55Speaker 5: we can talk about Jim Harbaugh being quirky and funny
- 38:58Speaker 5: and all of those other things, but what he does,
- 39:00Speaker 5: but he gets unbelievable buy in from his players, and
- 39:04Speaker 5: this team is all the way bought in on the
- 39:06Speaker 5: way they have to play d A. It doesn't matter
- 39:08Speaker 5: if they have to light up the scoreboard, if they
- 39:09Speaker 5: have to play a grinded out of fair, if they
- 39:11Speaker 5: have to find a way to get things done on
- 39:12Speaker 5: the special teams, they do it. And they are a
- 39:15Speaker 5: very dangerous team because to me, they're the unorthodox boxer
- 39:19Speaker 5: that you don't want to face in the ring. They
- 39:22Speaker 5: can make you play their style and man, just like
- 39:26Speaker 5: we saw in Michigan and Ohio State like sometimes man,
- 39:28Speaker 5: that style makes every game close. And they're so used
- 39:32Speaker 5: to winning these close games and making these.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Clutch plays they know how to get it done.
- 39:36Speaker 4: There's no fear in this team.
- 39:38Speaker 2: From the game.
- 39:38Speaker 1: I always after the game you were at, tell me
- 39:40Speaker 1: about what went down there in Jacksonville. Outside obviously the
- 39:43Speaker 1: huge hit on Trevor.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Look, I think you have to talk about the huge
- 39:47Speaker 4: hit on Trevor.
- 39:48Speaker 5: He you have Trevor Lawrence, a franchise quarterback, trying to
- 39:50Speaker 5: play through a shoulder injury to come back and give
- 39:53Speaker 5: the team some juice, not thinking that Okay, we're going
- 39:56Speaker 5: to get into the postseason. But hey man, I'm the
- 39:58Speaker 5: franchise quarterback, I'm the captain. I have to go down
- 40:00Speaker 5: with the ship and to see very early in the
- 40:02Speaker 5: game he is absolutely obliterated and knocked out.
- 40:05Speaker 4: Very disappointing. I would say the response from the team.
- 40:09Speaker 5: Is the part that really was disappointing to me, and
- 40:11Speaker 5: it shed a light on the culture and the team
- 40:14Speaker 5: in terms of the toughness and togetherness. DJ, You've worked
- 40:17Speaker 5: for two organizations where I know if that happened to
- 40:19Speaker 5: the franchise quarterback, they still would be brawling in the
- 40:22Speaker 5: parking lot right now. It is something that we talk
- 40:26Speaker 5: about and we talk about and scouting there's a code
- 40:30Speaker 5: and you always want to make sure when you're with
- 40:32Speaker 5: the Ravers and the Eagles, the players have to fit
- 40:34Speaker 5: the personality of the team. And I'm worried that when
- 40:38Speaker 5: you have an incident like this. It kind of poured
- 40:40Speaker 5: back the curtain on what the Jaguars aren't, and that
- 40:43Speaker 5: is like a really, really tough and physical football team.
- 40:45Speaker 5: Because that should have been sixty minutes of vigilanti juris
- 40:49Speaker 5: justice being served and I didn't see that, and so
- 40:51Speaker 5: it's alarming and disappointing for me.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Now, that was a throwback hit to like the Steve
- 40:57Speaker 1: Polor hit he took from Mike Singletary gon back, you
- 41:00Speaker 1: remember that. I think it was maybe late eighties, nineties
- 41:03Speaker 1: something like that. That was That was I haven't seen
- 41:06Speaker 1: a hit like that in a long time. But the Jags,
- 41:08Speaker 1: it's just been it's just been one of those years,
- 41:10Speaker 1: struggling along here two and ten, Houston trying to find
- 41:13Speaker 1: themselves here. Uh, they're sitting at eight and five, looking
- 41:16Speaker 1: like could be an interesting four or five seed matchup
- 41:19Speaker 1: in the playoffs, with either a team like Baltimore or
- 41:22Speaker 1: the Chargers potentially being the fifth seed. That will be
- 41:25Speaker 1: an interesting matchup there with the Houston Texans. The Monday
- 41:28Speaker 1: night game Cleveland Denver, bo Nicks to me as the headliner.
- 41:32Speaker 1: I'm excited to see him. See if you can keep
- 41:33Speaker 1: this thing rolling here at mile high. He's been awesome
- 41:36Speaker 1: at home.
- 41:36Speaker 5: He's been awesome at home, and Champagne has shown that
- 41:39Speaker 5: you can take a younger player, a rookie who has
- 41:42Speaker 5: a lot of colored experience, and you can help them
- 41:44Speaker 5: evolve from being a manager to a playmaker.
- 41:46Speaker 4: The way that they have slowly but surely, surely but
- 41:50Speaker 4: steadily developed bon Knicks, to me, is a blueprint for
- 41:53Speaker 4: how other teams should bring along with their young quarterbacks.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Started out being very conservative, run game screens, shorts, selected
- 42:00Speaker 4: isolated passes down the field, to now he is running
- 42:02Speaker 4: the pool playbook.
- 42:04Speaker 5: Look, man, it's a testament to Sean Payton and his
- 42:06Speaker 5: development of quarterbacks, but also the bow Knicks and his
- 42:08Speaker 5: readiness to play at a high level.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I think this could be a game for the Denver
- 42:12Speaker 1: defense as well. Sacks, interceptions, they could come in bunches
- 42:16Speaker 1: against Cleveland. Cleveland, are you gonna fight? They're gonna be aggressive,
- 42:20Speaker 1: They're gonna try and push the ball down the field.
- 42:22Speaker 1: But with that, you're gonna get some turnovers, You're gonna
- 42:24Speaker 1: get some sacks. So man, the Broncos are playing really
- 42:27Speaker 1: really good football. Looking forward to that clash with the
- 42:29Speaker 1: Chargers coming up by the way on a Thursday night
- 42:31Speaker 1: in the very very near future. That's gonna be a
- 42:33Speaker 1: big ball game.
- 42:34Speaker 2: All right, Buck. This this was fun.
- 42:36Speaker 1: We covered a lot of grounds, didn't quite get to
- 42:38Speaker 1: every single game. Left time throughout the week to touch
- 42:40Speaker 1: on some of those other teams we missed. Go ahead, Buck,
- 42:42Speaker 1: what you got.
- 42:43Speaker 4: No, that's what we do. We're talking about it next time,
- 42:45Speaker 4: maybe on Tuesday.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it's coming. It's coming, so be on the lookout
- 42:49Speaker 1: for that. Appreciate you guys. We'll see you next time.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Right here on.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Move the sticks some of them before
