- 1:18Luke chapter 9, One day Jesus called together
- 1:32his 12 disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out
- 1:37all demons and to heal all diseases.
- 1:41Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the kingdom of
- 1:44God. And to heal the sick.
- 1:46Take nothing for your journey, he instructed them.
- 1:49Don't take a walking stick a traveler's bag, food money, or
- 1:53even a change of clothes, wherever you go.
- 1:57Stay in the same house until you leave town.
- 2:00I never Town refuses to welcome you shake its dust from your
- 2:04feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people
- 2:08to their fate. So they began their Circuit of
- 2:11the villages preaching, the Good News and Healing The Sick.
- 2:16When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee heard about everything.
- 2:20Jesus was doing, he was puzzled some were saying that John the
- 2:24Baptist had been raised from the dead.
- 2:27Others thought Jesus Was Elijah or one of the other prophets
- 2:30risen from the dead. I bareheaded, John Herod said,
- 2:35so who is this man about? Whom, I hear such stories and he
- 2:39kept trying to see him when the apostles returned.
- 2:44They told Jesus, everything they They had done, then he slipped
- 2:48quietly away from them toward the town of Bethesda, but the
- 2:51crowds found out where he was going and they followed him.
- 2:55He welcomed them and taught them about the kingdom of God.
- 2:59And he healed those who were sick late in the afternoon, the
- 3:02Twelve Disciples came to him and said, send the crowds away to
- 3:06the nearby Villages and Farms, so they can find food.
- 3:10And lodging for the night, there is nothing to eat here in this
- 3:13remote place. But Jesus said You feed them,
- 3:18but we have only five loaves of bread and two fish, they
- 3:21answered. Or are you expecting us to go
- 3:24and buy enough food for this whole crowd for there, about
- 3:28five thousand men there, Jesus replied, tell them to sit down
- 3:33in groups of about fifty each. So the people all sat down Jesus
- 3:38Took The Five Loaves and two fish looked up toward heaven and
- 3:43blessed them then breaking the lives into Pieces, he kept
- 3:47giving the bread and fish to the disciples so they could
- 3:50distribute it to the people. They all ate as much as they
- 3:54wanted. And afterward the disciples
- 3:56picked up twelve baskets of leftovers.
- 4:01One day, Jesus left, the crowds to pray alone, only his
- 4:05disciples are with him. And he asked them, who do people
- 4:08say I am well, they replied some say, John the Baptist some say
- 4:14Elijah and others, say you're one of the other ancient
- 4:18prophets risen from the dead. Then he asked them, but who do
- 4:22you say? I am Peter replied.
- 4:25You are the Messiah sent from God, Jesus warned, Disciples not
- 4:31to tell anyone who he was the son of man must suffer many
- 4:35terrible things. He said he would be rejected by
- 4:39the elders, the leading priests and the teachers of religious
- 4:42law, he will be killed. But on the third day, he will be
- 4:46raised from the dead. Then he said to the crowd.
- 4:50If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your
- 4:54own way. Take up your cross daily and
- 4:57follow me if you try to hang on to your life, Life, you will
- 5:01lose it but if you give up your life, for my sake, you will save
- 5:06it. And what do you benefit if you
- 5:08gain the whole world? But our yourself lost or
- 5:11destroyed. If anyone is ashamed of me and
- 5:15my message, the son of man will be ashamed of that person when
- 5:19he returns in his glory and in the glory of the father and the
- 5:23Holy Angels, I tell you the truth.
- 5:26Some standing here right now will not die before they see the
- 5:30kingdom of God. About eight days later.
- 5:34Jesus Took Peter John and James up on a mountain to pray.
- 5:39And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was
- 5:42transformed and his clothes became dazzling white suddenly
- 5:48two men Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with
- 5:52Jesus. They were glorious to see and
- 5:57they were speaking about his Exodus from this world which was
- 6:01about to be fulfilled in. Aslam Peter and the others had
- 6:04fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw
- 6:09Jesus. Glory and the two men standing
- 6:12with him as Moses, and Elijah were starting to leave Peter.
- 6:17Not even knowing. What he was saying, blurted out
- 6:20Master. It's wonderful for us to be
- 6:22here. Let us make three shelters as
- 6:24memorials, one for you, one, for Moses, and one for Elijah, but
- 6:29even as he was saying, this, a cloud overshadowed them and
- 6:34Terror gripped them as the cloud covered them.
- 6:37Then a voice from the cloud said.
- 6:39This is my son. My Chosen One.
- 6:43Listen to him. When the voice finished, Jesus
- 6:48was there alone? They didn't tell anyone at that
- 6:52time, with that scene. The next day after they had come
- 6:58down the mountain, a large crowd met Jesus, her man, in the
- 7:02crowd, called out to him teacher.
- 7:04I beg you to look at my son, my only child, an evil spirit,
- 7:08keeps seizing him, making him scream it, throws him into
- 7:12convulsions, so that he Foams at the mouth.
- 7:15It basses him and hardly ever leaves him alone.
- 7:18I begged your disciples to cast out the spirit but they couldn't
- 7:21do it. Jesus said, you faithless and
- 7:25corrupt people. How long must I be with you and
- 7:29put up with you, then he said to the man, bring your son here.
- 7:34As the boy came forward. The demon knocked him to the
- 7:37ground and threw him into a violent convulsion, but Jesus
- 7:41rebuked, the evil spirit and healed, the boy, and gave him
- 7:45back to his father, or gripped, the people as the saw this
- 7:49Majestic display of God's power While everyone was marveling at
- 7:54everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples, listen to
- 7:59me. And remember what I say, the son
- 8:02of man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies
- 8:06but they didn't know what he meant.
- 8:09It's significance was hidden from them so they couldn't
- 8:11understand it and they were afraid to ask him about it.
- 8:16Then his disciples began arguing about which of them was the
- 8:19greatest but Jesus knew their thoughts.
- 8:22So he brought a little child to his side.
- 8:25Then he said to them. Anyone who welcomes a little
- 8:29child like this, on my behalf, welcomes me.
- 8:32And anyone who welcomes me also, welcome as my father who sent
- 8:36me, whoever is the least among you is the greatest.
- 8:43John said to Jesus Master. We saw someone using your name
- 8:49to cast out demons, but we're told him to stop because he
- 8:53isn't in our group, but Jesus said don't stop him.
- 8:57Anyone who is not against you, his for you.
- 9:02As the time grew near for him, to ascend to Heaven, Jesus
- 9:05resolutely set out for Jerusalem, he sent Messengers
- 9:09ahead to a Samaritan Village to prepare for his arrival.
- 9:13But the people of the village did not welcome.
- 9:15Jesus. Because he was on his way to
- 9:17Jerusalem. When James and John saw this,
- 9:20they said to Jesus Lord, should we call down fire?
- 9:24From heaven to burn them up but Jesus turned and rebuked them.
- 9:29So they went on to another Village.
- 9:32As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, I will
- 9:36follow you wherever you go, but Jesus replied.
- 9:41Foxes have dens to live in and birds have nests but the son of
- 9:45man has no place even to lay his head.
- 9:49He said to another person come follow me.
- 9:52The man agreed but he said, Lord first let me return home and
- 9:57bury my father but Jesus told him let the spiritually dead
- 10:02bury. Their own dead.
- 10:04Your duty is to go and preach about the kingdom of God.
- 10:08Another said yes Lord I will follow you but first let me say
- 10:12goodbye to my family but Jesus told him Anyone who puts a hand
- 10:16to the plow and then looks back. He's not fit for the kingdom of
- 10:21God. Thank you, Jesus.
- 10:32That you remind us of how important and Central is the
- 10:37work of your kingdom. We get so bombarded with the
- 10:44things of this life and it totally consumes our Focus so
- 10:48often. But just as Peter John and James
- 10:52saw as you were transfigured on that.
- 10:54Mountainside this world is but a mere shadow of the true Kingdom
- 10:58that lies Beyond where you are dazzling in your glory, your
- 11:04kingship and your godliness. Lord shift, our heart, take out
- 11:11that blockage from our spiritual arteries so that we can truly
- 11:17see you in all your glory place. You at the highest place of
- 11:22priority in our life and live for you and your kingdom above
- 11:26everything else. And when we get it wrong thank
- 11:31you that you continue to love us and forgive us shape us, mold
- 11:36us. Draw us into Orrin price.
- 11:39We pray this Jesus in your name. Amen.
