- 1:06and ministry. In this mini series, he shares
- 1:09short devotional messages that connect biblical stories with
- 1:12the purpose and impact of Alabaster.
- 1:16Hi friends, today I want to share a short devotional about
- 1:21Alabaster and we are starting with the story that gives
- 1:25Alabaster its name. Take a breath with me and let's
- 1:30invite the Lord to speak to us in this few minutes.
- 1:36In Mark chapter 14, Jesus is in Bethany in someone's home
- 1:42sitting at the table, and while he is there a woman enters with
- 1:48a an alabaster jar filled with a very expensive perfume.
- 1:55And Mark says she breaks the jar and pours it out on Jesus.
- 2:03Now immediately the room reacts, people start calculating, people
- 2:09start criticizing. They say why this waste?
- 2:15This could have been sold and given to the poor.
- 2:19But Jesus stops the criticism and he says something that
- 2:25always touches me. He says she has done a beautiful
- 2:31thing to me. And he adds this line in verse
- 2:368. She did what she could.
- 2:42Let that sit for a moment. She did what she could.
- 2:48Some people only see the price tag, but Jesus sees the heart.
- 2:55Some people see too much, but Jesus sees beautiful.
- 3:01And this is the heart of Alabaster.
- 3:05Alabaster is not a fundraising trick.
- 3:09It is not pressure. It is not guilt.
- 3:13Alabaster is worship. It is the church saying, Jesus,
- 3:20you are worth my best. It is US saying, I will pour out
- 3:27what I have because I love you, Lord.
- 3:33Sometimes real worship doesn't always look efficient.
- 3:39Sometimes worship looks like someone breaking open what is
- 3:43costly. Sometimes worship looks like
- 3:46generosity that does not make sense to everyone in the room,
- 3:53and Jesus does not shame that. On the contrary, Jesus defends
- 3:59it. He says leave her alone.
- 4:03He calls it beautiful. And then he says something about
- 4:08legacy. He says that wherever the gospel
- 4:13is preached, her story will be told.
- 4:18What a blessing. Here is the challenge for us
- 4:23today. Whenever we give to Alabaster,
- 4:28we are doing something very similar.
- 4:32We are pouring out love to Jesus.
- 4:36We are also creating space for ministry that outlives us
- 4:43because Alabaster helps provide places where people worship,
- 4:48where children are discipled, where leaders are trained, where
- 4:53the hurting are served, where the gospel, the good news is
- 4:59proclaimed. And I know someone might still
- 5:04ask why buildings? And here's the answer.
- 5:10Buildings are not the mission. Jesus is, but buildings can
- 5:16become a tool in the hands of God, a doorway for welcome, a
- 5:23base for compassion, a home for worship, a place of salvation.
- 5:32So today I want to invite you into a simple prayer and a
- 5:36simple action. The prayer is, Lord, make my
- 5:43heart generous and free. And the action is, is to do what
- 5:50Jesus affirmed in that's woman in that woman's actions.
- 5:57Do what Jesus affirmed in that woman's actions.
- 6:03Do what you can, not, what someone else can not what you
- 6:10wish you could. Do just what you can.
- 6:15Offered with love to God, Let us pray.
- 6:23Jesus. Thank you that you receive our
- 6:26worship. Thank you that you see the heart
- 6:30beyond the gift. Free us from fear and from
- 6:35comparison. Teach us to love you with joy
- 6:39and with courage. And as we give through
- 6:42alabaster, would you use these gifts to create spaces where
- 6:48people meet you, Spaces for salvation, for healing, for
- 6:54discipleship, and for hope. In your name we pray.
- 7:00Amen. Thank you for listening to the
