- 0:00Speaker 1: Close your mouth please, it's one more thing.
- 0:06Speaker 2: This is one of your rare Michaelangelo has taken it
- 0:09Speaker 2: in One More Thing podcasts.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Yeah, is he referring to Senile Biden with his mouth
- 0:15Speaker 3: hanging open or somebody chewing or what?
- 0:20Speaker 2: A friend of mine said that about their elderly dad
- 0:22Speaker 2: who he loves the other day, Like what age does
- 0:24Speaker 2: your mouth start hanging open? He said, I'm not looking
- 0:26Speaker 2: forward to that. The ravages of age. Oh, it's so hard,
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm not looking forward to it. I'm going to get
- 0:33Speaker 2: a strap around my head that hold it up or something.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Like you just had surgery and we'll tie at the top.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Anyway, what are you talking about, Michael.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I'm talking about Jim Etiquette. And I don't know quite
- 0:45Speaker 1: how to handle this. Uh So I have to go
- 0:47Speaker 1: to gym because I have type two diabetes.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Gym Jim, Yeah, gym Jim Etiquette as you call him
- 0:53Speaker 2: Jim or James, depending on what they want.
- 0:55Speaker 1: So, yeah, working out, And I know you and you
- 0:58Speaker 1: go to the gym with your kids, and I know
- 1:00Speaker 1: Katie goes to the gym, and so I.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Go to the gym. I wasn't leaving you out, well
- 1:06Speaker 2: you left me out. You literally left me out. What
- 1:09Speaker 2: do you mean you're not? Apparently apparently it doesn't show.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I was saving the best always. I'm strong like bull.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Are you kidding? Joe? You look great? That was rude Jack,
- 1:19Speaker 2: Thanks Katie. I'm I'm freaking ripped. Look at those guns.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Like if I say to somebody, I was at the
- 1:24Speaker 2: gym the other day, you go to the gym.
- 1:27Speaker 3: What sort of jim like James whatever it was? Anyway
- 1:33Speaker 3: there there you were at the gym, mich light, I think, right.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah, So I'm on a gym machine and then there's
- 1:38Speaker 1: a guy to the right of me and he's working out,
- 1:41Speaker 1: but he's a bit of a mouth breather, so he
- 1:43Speaker 1: really excels. And the problem is he has the worst
- 1:47Speaker 1: breath I have ever.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So okay, and it's breath.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yes, I am like two machines away from him, and
- 1:55Speaker 1: it is so bad.
- 1:57Speaker 2: That's there's something wrong there. They need to get to
- 1:59Speaker 2: a doctor. Might have been intervening in a medical situation.
- 2:02Speaker 2: If there are two machines away and you can smell
- 2:04Speaker 2: their breath.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, in mister hal etosis right over there, Are
- 2:09Speaker 3: you kidding me?
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:10Speaker 3: The guy's got the rotten gums. That's what's happening there.
- 2:13Speaker 3: That's what halatosis is. Mostly, it's it's bacterial infections and
- 2:18Speaker 3: decay of your gums.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Give us an overall look other than his breath. What
- 2:21Speaker 2: do you look like? What age you fit or not?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Older man?
- 2:24Speaker 1: I'd say probably in this fifties. Normal guy, I mean
- 2:27Speaker 1: decent shape, but just terrible.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And normal guy who smells like a dung heap.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, And I could not continue my workout because it
- 2:35Speaker 1: smelled so bad it was making me sick. And so
- 2:39Speaker 1: my question is, I don't this guy if I see me,
- 2:42Speaker 1: what do I do?
- 2:43Speaker 2: I mean, do I just.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Should I say something politely?
- 2:48Speaker 3: You make it leg day and you go over there exactly.
- 2:52Speaker 2: That's what I was gonna say.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Just pick a different part of your workout to do
- 2:55Speaker 4: while he's on the machine.
- 2:56Speaker 2: What possibly would you say to the gentleman?
- 3:00Speaker 1: I don't know, but I have to use certain machines
- 3:02Speaker 1: because I have to use certain exercises. It's a long story,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but you get blood sugar down.
- 3:06Speaker 2: You sure you've got health reasons to be at the gym,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and nobody wants to, like have to alter their workout
- 3:12Speaker 2: because somebody stinks so bad. Sir, your mouth is offensive. Yeah, sir, your.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Breath smells like that train wreck in western Pennsylvania.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Where was that.
- 3:24Speaker 3: It had a funny name that was pronounced draw something.
- 3:27Speaker 3: It was a biblical name, right right, right, Yeah, it's
- 3:31Speaker 3: like Palestine, Ohio. Palestine, that's right, East Palestine, Ohio. Right, Yeah,
- 3:35Speaker 3: that's it.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Anyway, where were we? I was?
- 3:38Speaker 3: I was going to accuse Michael of humble bragging because
- 3:40Speaker 3: every to me, every complaint about the gym is really
- 3:43Speaker 3: just a humble brag that you were at the gym.
- 3:46Speaker 3: But with your diabetes, I can't play that card, so
- 3:50Speaker 3: I will not. No, there's nothing you can say to
- 3:52Speaker 3: the stinky gent. You could recommend a good dentist, because
- 3:55Speaker 3: I'm telling you it's a dental problem.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I used to spot for a guy at the gym
- 3:59Speaker 2: and like doing the bench press, so I'd be kind
- 4:01Speaker 2: of leaned over him, you know, getting ready to help
- 4:03Speaker 2: the bench up, and and haiti x sale. It was
- 4:05Speaker 2: just like whaa every single time I turned my head
- 4:09Speaker 2: and hold my breath for his ex sales. Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 4: I had a buddy that had really really bad breath.
- 4:14Speaker 4: And what I would do is I always had mints
- 4:17Speaker 4: in my purse, and but I'd pull them out. I'd
- 4:18Speaker 4: be super blatant, you know.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Kind of shake. This is meant. I mean, I'm hoping
- 4:24Speaker 2: them and I'd go, anybody want one good mints in
- 4:26Speaker 2: my life? But this is the best mint I've ever had.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Tell you what, anybody who doesn't have one of these
- 4:31Speaker 3: mints is really missing out.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Just shake some altoids and offer him one. Michael, see
- 4:35Speaker 4: if that works.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Like a combination of an orgasm in the last day
- 4:38Speaker 2: of school. This mint is just oh one, It's a
- 4:42Speaker 2: mint gasm. So listen.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I want to be delicate about this because, uh, this
- 4:47Speaker 3: is not meant from in any way a bad place.
- 4:49Speaker 3: But there are certain cultures that they're traditional diets render
- 4:56Speaker 3: their output post meal to be somewhat bungeent.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Mm yeah, m yeah, that might mean the case here. Actually, no,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I think about it.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Okay, So racism raises its uglyhead, Just go up and
- 5:11Speaker 2: stick a sock in his mouth.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Wow wow, I'm telling you there is a difference. If
- 5:17Speaker 3: you have a ham sami for lunch and if you
- 5:21Speaker 3: have some sort of spicy curried goat or something for lunch,
- 5:26Speaker 3: you can have a different breath profile.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I was just thinking. I think I always want somebody
- 5:33Speaker 2: to tell me if my breath is bad. I'm trying
- 5:34Speaker 2: to come up with a scenario where I would I
- 5:36Speaker 2: would prefer you didn't like it would be more hurtful
- 5:39Speaker 2: than helpful. But I think I'd like to always know
- 5:43Speaker 2: until I will get it under control.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's like the you know you got some
- 5:48Speaker 3: I eat blueberries for a number of reasons with my yogurt,
- 5:52Speaker 3: but the blueberries are one of the worst. You have
- 5:55Speaker 3: something on your teeth foods known to man because the skins,
- 5:58Speaker 3: so you have to rinse and look and all.
- 5:59Speaker 2: But if somebody said, hey.
- 6:01Speaker 3: You got a little uh, that would be Some people
- 6:03Speaker 3: are so embarrassed to do that.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:05Speaker 3: But and if you, if you're if you and I
- 6:07Speaker 3: are friendly and you let me walk away with a
- 6:10Speaker 3: big blotch of deep blue.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Crap on my teeth, you've done me no favor, Like
- 6:16Speaker 2: you got the dead bluetooth. Nobody that I'm stinking up
- 6:20Speaker 2: the gym. People try to work out or ready to puke.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Guy with diabetes next to me can't work out. That's right, it.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Might kill him, but he doesn't want to be rude.
- 6:28Speaker 2: No, go ahead and say it my kid, you know,
- 6:30Speaker 2: because kids are what you want honesty. You ever want
- 6:33Speaker 2: to know what you look or smell like, have kids
- 6:36Speaker 2: because they are gonna tell you, at least up to
- 6:38Speaker 2: a certain age, all the time. But whenever my kids
- 6:40Speaker 2: would say, Dad, your bread smells bad, that it's at
- 6:42Speaker 2: a fend Man's like good, I want to know that.
- 6:46Speaker 3: So, Michael curious, partly because I've recently become aware that
- 6:51Speaker 3: a person I know on the autism spectrum is hyper
- 6:53Speaker 3: sensitive to smells. I have a daughter who's misophonic. Definitely,
- 6:58Speaker 3: there's certain sounds maker and say Jackie can relate to that.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Have you ever had a history of being super sensitive
- 7:04Speaker 3: to smells?
- 7:04Speaker 2: No?
- 7:05Speaker 1: No, not at all.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Or hasn't changed since COVID. I have the problem. Now
- 7:09Speaker 2: I've learned to ignore it when I get a really
- 7:11Speaker 2: bad smell. I have figured out it's not as bad
- 7:13Speaker 2: for anybody else since the COVID thing, same thing that
- 7:16Speaker 2: caused me to not taste sweet, I guess. But like
- 7:19Speaker 2: for a while, I was like to my poor son, dude,
- 7:22Speaker 2: take a shower. Good God. And I finally figured out,
- 7:26Speaker 2: with some time and different situations, that my smell is
- 7:30Speaker 2: out of whack. Wow. Wow, it just smells horrible to
- 7:34Speaker 2: me all the time, no matter how many times it
- 7:36Speaker 2: gets a bath.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I consider myself so blessed that I've had Chairman
- 7:40Speaker 3: She's bat fever, the fauci flew several times, but haven't
- 7:44Speaker 3: had any sensory changes as an epicurean that would be
- 7:48Speaker 3: tragic for me. Now, you who have been hard of
- 7:51Speaker 3: tasting since I've known you, I'm not happy it happened
- 7:54Speaker 3: to you, but it would be a tragic loss if I,
- 7:56Speaker 3: with my refined ballot, were to suffer your fate.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So hold on you, Jack, so your smell, certain things
- 8:03Speaker 1: smell worse, and then things you can't smell at all.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I don't know about that, because it's hard not to
- 8:09Speaker 2: notice not smelling something. But yeah, bad smells are a
- 8:13Speaker 2: hundred times worse than they used to be. Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I remember getting a number of emails from listeners during
- 8:18Speaker 3: the height of the COVID thing talking about how a
- 8:21Speaker 3: cup of coffee now smells just rancid.
- 8:23Speaker 2: To I haven't had that, I don't think. But just
- 8:25Speaker 2: bad smells are like the sponge on the sink, which
- 8:28Speaker 2: I never used to ever notice sponge on the sink
- 8:30Speaker 2: if it started to get a little funky. Oh just
- 8:32Speaker 2: walking in the kitchens. Oh, it's me like a ton
- 8:35Speaker 2: of bricks. So maybe you have that going or maybe
- 8:37Speaker 2: the guy's just disgusting Michael. Yeah, would scope fix that
- 8:41Speaker 2: if your teeth a rotten out? Or would that not
- 8:42Speaker 2: help that listine? It would be better.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I think one of your antibiotic types slips.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You distract him. You slip some listerine into his water bottle.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Oh geez, you distract him.
- 8:58Speaker 1: It's kind of a big guy, just you know.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Okay, oh boy, move quickly and stealthily.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Hey, one more thing for you guys to go to
- 9:06Speaker 1: the gym. Do you let people work in with you?
- 9:08Speaker 1: They now put up a sign that said you need
- 9:10Speaker 1: to share your equipment let others work in between your sets.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Do you know I don't do that either.
- 9:17Speaker 4: No, No, because you wipe down your equipment afterwards. I
- 9:19Speaker 4: don't want somebody else sitting down on it and getting
- 9:21Speaker 4: it all set.
- 9:22Speaker 2: No. I haven't been to a gym or you had
- 9:24Speaker 2: to do that in many many years. When I was younger,
- 9:25Speaker 2: I did all the time. You had to. It's just
- 9:27Speaker 2: so crowded. It was pretty much no other way to
- 9:28Speaker 2: work out. But it was always just so discouraging if
- 9:32Speaker 2: people were like at a much different level than you are,
- 9:35Speaker 2: and they're like, you put on so much more weight
- 9:37Speaker 2: than you got to take it back down to the
- 9:38Speaker 2: little girl level before you do your weight, or you're
- 9:41Speaker 2: just you're there to.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Do A, B and C, and you do A and
- 9:45Speaker 3: B and then C is used up, or you know
- 9:48Speaker 3: it's being used, so all right, I'll go do my
- 9:51Speaker 3: set of B, I guess, and then okay, now A.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Now somebody's on a N C and I just one.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It's so discouraged. My one quick story on this is
- 9:58Speaker 2: we do the longest podcast we've ever done. I was
- 10:01Speaker 2: working out the University of Kansas at the gym there,
- 10:03Speaker 2: and I was doing the squats on the squat machine,
- 10:06Speaker 2: and a guy wanted to work in with me, and
- 10:07Speaker 2: I was too embarrassed to say that I couldn't do
- 10:09Speaker 2: the amount of weight he was doing, so I did
- 10:12Speaker 2: a weight way above my limit as best as I could,
- 10:15Speaker 2: and then when I was done, my legs were so
- 10:19Speaker 2: jelly from doing way more weight than I was capable
- 10:22Speaker 2: of doing. I could barely walk and I had to
- 10:24Speaker 2: like really stiffen up my legs to shuffle out of there,
- 10:27Speaker 2: and I got in my car, which had a manual transmission,
- 10:31Speaker 2: and I couldn't push the clutch in my legs was
- 10:32Speaker 2: so I had to sit there for like twenty minutes
- 10:34Speaker 2: before my legs calmed down enough I could push it.
- 10:36Speaker 2: They were just shaking. I thought, maybe you should swallow
- 10:40Speaker 2: your pride and just say that's more weight than I
- 10:42Speaker 2: can do. There's a lesson in life, is what it was.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Well, I've decided what I'm gonna do. You guys, As
- 10:49Speaker 1: he does the chest press and has both arms occupied,
- 10:53Speaker 1: I will grab a toothbrush with full toothpaste.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And start brushing his tea.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yeah, while he's in mids, he can't do anything about it.
- 11:00Speaker 2: If you got the flaws stick in there, perfect love it.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it.
