- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today's the day that I open up the garden and I let the
- 0:34chickens go in. And I have to tell you, this is
- 0:38always such a bittersweet day for me when these things come up
- 0:42because it means that the garden is done for the season.
- 0:46And after all the rain we've had and all the rain we've had and
- 0:51all the rain we've had, things got out of hand very quickly
- 0:56because we couldn't get in there to do anything.
- 0:58And quite frankly, I'm spent with the amount of weeds that
- 1:04have somehow permeated in there, which I know it's not as bad
- 1:08once I get in there and start pulling them out, but I can't
- 1:11because it's just so hot to go out there and work in it.
- 1:14And the mosquitoes are now so bad out there.
- 1:18It's just, it's too much. So today's the day I open the
- 1:21garden up and I let the girls go in because they will go in and
- 1:25start to do clean up duty and they will be beyond excited
- 1:29about doing this. But it's always so bittersweet
- 1:31for me because the moment I do it, it means OK, that season is
- 1:36done, that summer is done. And it's it, it, it, it's topped
- 1:40out. And I personally always have a
- 1:42hard time with that because I always in that force of wanting
- 1:46to grow, wanting to shift. Now, why is this important?
- 1:49Well, it's important because everything has its cycles and
- 1:52you have to follow along in the cycles and let nature have do
- 1:56its course. Now, I can go out there and
- 1:58plant a fall garden. I've never planted a fall
- 2:01garden, which is insane that I've never planted a fall
- 2:03garden. But I've always been so focused
- 2:05on having the spring garden, the early things, the summer things,
- 2:09and then letting the ground rest for fall and winter.
- 2:13But this year I think I'm probably going to give it a shot
- 2:16and do some simple things. But I won't be planting them
- 2:19early like right now because it's still so blazing hot.
- 2:22It's going to be further into the fall before I end up doing
- 2:25it. But in any event, the the the
- 2:29force that these girls will be when they get in there is insane
- 2:33because they will go in and they will eradicate any of the grubs,
- 2:37the bugs, leftover seeds. They will just clean this up.
- 2:41Not to mention they will be ecstatic that they get to get in
- 2:44there and do their job. They are like a little
- 2:46rototillers and they can go in and they can make anything a
- 2:50clean path. They'll eat down anything when
- 2:53allowed to go into certain areas.
- 2:55So I'm we're also going to let the bunnies in because the
- 2:58bunnies love to go and just wipe things out and clean it up.
- 3:02Now, this is a really great metaphor for us when we're
- 3:06paying attention to in our lives when something is moving
- 3:10through, coming to a conclusion and allowing something else to
- 3:14come in and do what seemingly is like the end work.
- 3:18But it's really a beginning when you focus on it like this is a
- 3:21new beginning for the garden. This is where it's going to
- 3:23start to make its turn, and then it's going to say, OK, I can
- 3:27repopulate. Now, the whole time the chickens
- 3:29are in there, they are definitely pooping.
- 3:31So all that poop is put back into the ground and then before
- 3:35you know it, everything is in this cycle.
- 3:36And that poop actually turns into a force that helps things
- 3:40grow. So as amazingly as it may seem,
- 3:42that's what happens. So, you know, I've learned so
- 3:46much from watching them grass that I can't stand, that
- 3:49actually gives me a rash on my legs.
- 3:52The little seeds on the end of it, they love it.
- 3:54They love to eat it. I think to myself, holy cow, how
- 3:57is that even possible? I can't stand this grass, but
- 4:01yet for them it's amazing. They love it.
- 4:04They'll seek it out and I try to keep some of it growing long in
- 4:08their run area where they can go in and actually eat it because I
- 4:13can't have it where I'm walking out to the coop all the time.
- 4:16It's this weird funky grass that grows out in the middle of
- 4:19nowhere. So we have this, we have this
- 4:24need to try to put everything in this nice neat little box as
- 4:28humans and say, OK, this is done.
- 4:30This is this is finished, but or this is bad or this is good, but
- 4:34putting things into the box doesn't always work.
- 4:38If you want to put it in a box, think like I do and say, OK, I'm
- 4:41going to leave the lid open because that makes room for
- 4:44possibilities. That's going to make room for
- 4:46new definitions. So as I end this season, this
- 4:50summer season, and I go get ready to go into the next
- 4:53season, I'll start saving seeds from the Zinnia like I do every
- 4:57year. I'll start planting, planning,
- 5:00not planting, planning for next year.
- 5:03I will probably start planning for the fall and saying, OK, do
- 5:07I want to grow, try to grow some broccoli?
- 5:09Do I want to try to grow some things that grow in the cold
- 5:13weather that we will have? Do I want to try to cultivate
- 5:16something different? And the answer is yes.
- 5:19It's just a matter of making sure that when you're doing
- 5:23these things, you're aware of them so it doesn't become
- 5:25haphazard. Because when you're aware,
- 5:27that's where your power comes in.
- 5:29So heighten your awareness. Look for that.
- 5:32Keep the lid of the box open. Possibilities, my friends.
- 5:35I hope you have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:37Bye.
